    Tips for prospective students

    * Get Involved!! There are way too many opportunities at FSC just to sit in your room or the library all the time. Even if you're a commuter! *Keep An Open Mind!! And this is a tip for any prospective college student. Even if you have the next 10 years planned out, test the waters a bit. FSC staff will be more than glad to assist you in not only following your dreams, but achieving it! *Have Fun! :)

    Bang for the buck

Keeping in mind that FSC is a private institution might help when the bill comes in the mail. The student has to realize it's also their responsibility whether FSC is worth the price, such being serious about their education (not skipping classes just because they don't feel like it, etc.) and getting involved.

    Am enjoying being here

Love it!! It's really a home away from home. From the personal relationships with the staff and the beautiful Frank Lloyd Wright architecture to the rich history and innovative and on-going activities, there's no way one couldn't get involved! FSC makes sure not to only provide the tools for academic success, but it also provides the nurturing environment that one could fall in love with.

    Am learning a lot

The staff of Florida Southern are so helpful and passionate about the students' endeavors, it's a breath of fresh air. Not only would you learn in the classroom, but there are so many other opportunities for students to grow and become active members of society.

Great for these types of students

A student who likes to have one on one time with their professors, be a part of a small college that is a community, great architecture and design of a school, have an easy time getting to class in the morning, and staff who know your name and want to get to know them.

    Tips for prospective students

GET INVOLVED! There are so many activities on campus! And it's easy to join too. Don't be discouraged by the fact that the campus is small, there is always something going on. Being here is really like being a part of a big family.

    Bang for the buck

Yes, the price is a little more than any public university, but you get what you pay for. All of the professors will care about you and your studies. There is a lot of help available for just about any question or problem. Anything from financial aid to the career center is here. There is even a counseling center. If you are having any type of problem, there is a service to help you with it. Last week there was even a free depression checkup. The people here want to see you grow and mature into the adult you want to be and will help you get there.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is amazingly beautiful and it's right on a lake (2.8 miles around). Absolutely gorgeous architecture. All of the staff is so caring and helpful. I meet a new person at least once a week. I always have fun. I really am having the time of my life here.

    Am learning a lot

Definitely! Engaged learning is way better than learning in high school! Every day I learn something new and I usually have fun doing it. All of the professors that I have try to make their classes interesting and fun so that I can learn.

    Campus Safety

The campus is completely safe and to make it extra safe we are given button that, when pressed on both sides, set off alarms and immediately alert the campus security to your live GPS location and shows your picture and basic info. So, if an emergency ever happens (and I'm nearly 100% sure it hasn't- if it did, everyone would know since it is a small campus) you will have security there in very little time. Besides emergencies and general safety, security has golf carts and are happy to give you a lift if you're injured or it is late at night and you have a ways to walk (this is especially nice for us females). They have even asked if I wanted a ride when it was cold and when I was running in a dress with my heels off because I was about to run late to call backs (and would have if they didn't give me a lift). They're all really nice and are always there to help.

    Greek Life

I'm not involved, but I'm very good friends with many people who are (in fact, one of my best friends is the president of his fraternity) and they love every minute of it. Even if you don't think it's for you, give it a try and you might be surprised because Greek life is different here in the best way possible.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many clubs and so much to do here that there is no way you couldn't find something to suit you.

Great for these types of students

Looking for a close- knit community of friendly students and staff with professors that care and will remember you (and will remember you even long after you graduate). Everyone here really cares and genuinely wants to give you the best college education and experience that they can.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There are many urban legends about the campus and a ton of supposed ghosts. The most haunted building currently is Buckner Theatre. Our president, Dr. Kerr, is only ever seen is school colours. She is always wearing at least red. In Edge hall one of the classrooms was used to film the classroom scene in Water Boy with Adam Sandler.

    Bang for the buck

FSC gives you your money's worth. The professors are excellent and the services offered (tutoring, physical training, outdoor rec, career advice, tech center, ect) are all handy and top notch. Everyone I know misses FSC when on break and can't wait to go back!

    What to do for fun

Go water skiing, bike around Lake Hollingsworth, take a run around the lake, go see a show in the theatre (you'll see me there), go see a student recital, go to a concert, go to the art gallery, join intramural sports, check out camping equipment and go camping, explore the niche shops and yummy restaurants in downtown Lakeland, go see a movie at the Cobb, go to Yogurt Mountain (because it is the most delicious place on earth), go to a sporting event, sun yourself by the pool, shoot hoops in the pool, get a workout in the wellness center, go to ZUMBA, go to yoga, AB ATTACK, go on one of the outdoor recreation trips, play pool in the rec room, check out cornhole equipment and play that with your friends, go to community living events such as the fall festival, the farewell festival (where we throw a gigantic carnival that is completely free to students [including food and games] to wish everyone a good summer vacation), greek life, join a club, bake something in the 4th floor kitchens of Wesley and Nicholas, play sand volleyball in the courts behind Dell, go ghost hunting on our highly haunted campus, go to the worship events, or just hang out in the common areas!

    Food and Dining

The caf (cafeteria, if you couldn't guess. AKA: Wynee's Bistro) is nothing to write home about. The breakfast is pretty good and the cold sandwich/ wrap/ pressed sandwich area makes life pretty good. Every so often you get a really good day and stir fry night is usually looked forward too along with catered nights (we've had Chipotle and Sonny's BBQ along with some others that I can't remember). There's always a fairly large salad bar with rotating and seasonal toppings and on Sundays it often is shared with the make your own Sunday bar. The undercaf (AKA Terrace Cafe) is general fast food fare. The quesadillas are a favourite as are the chicken sandwiches and grilled cheese. I try to not eat there often (mostly because I never gained a freshman 15 and I never plan to) but it's good to grab things late at night or when you really need something quick. The Mocmart is like a little convenience store. It's a bit overpriced, but if you live on campus you'll have a full meal plan your first year and generally enough points to spare. All sorts of things can be found here and usually if they don't have it you can request it and they'll get it. The Grill Master... oh, the Grill Master. Easily the yummiest spot on campus, but it is often packed. And I mean line twisting down a ways packed. It's well worth it for some good food that is cooked right when you order it. (Hot breakfast sandwiches before early classes on cold days are the best.) TuTu's Cyber Cafe has some of the best staff on campus. Period. No argument. They make going there completely worth it and make Starbucks beverages better than Starbucks (I seriously can only drink coffee from TuTu's now). The sandwiches are just cold cuts and are pretty good for pre-prepared cold cut sandwiches. Every so often a really good special shows up and is worth eating at least a couple times that week. By far the best part are the DELICIOUS big cookies. They're soft and gooey and amazing when put in the microwave for a few seconds. The muffins are also very good- especially the blueberry one. FSC's favourite tea made here is, by far, the sweet raspberry tea. TuTu's does a great job with that tea and it's a blessing during hot days (aka all but a few weeks out of the year). The breakfast sandwiches are also very good here.

    Dorm Life

It can get a little rough sometimes because parts of the school are quite old, but in general it's not bad. The female freshman dorms are better than the male freshman dorms (sorry guys). However, upperclassmen dorms are really nice and in Wesley and Nicholas the most you will share a bathroom with is 4 and the bathroom is just for your little nook (or you can luck out like me and only share the bathroom with your roommate). Once you become a junior and if you have good GPA you can live in the off campus apartments, which are really nice. I lived in the Lake Morton apartments for a few months and loved it (I moved out because of roommate situations, not the apartment). Tip: - Ask for the show room your freshman year. You get $500 from the school and get a nice, big room (with an a-mazing lake view- for the girls. I've never seen the guys show room.) and all you have to do is keep it clean and let a few tours gawk at your room every day. I did it and I miss that room! Haha.

    Academic Rigor

It really depends on what classes you take, but in general the classes are not an easy A for the average student. If you did well on your AP exams you shouldn't have much of a problem in your first two years. But I do hear that those science courses can be difficult (Organic Chem is supposedly hard. I don't have to take anything like that, but I think I remember my roommate saying it was a tedious class). However, I have heard of no one serious about their major doing particularly poor because of the difficult and I know professors are always there to help as is the student learning center.

    Tips for prospective students

If you need more financial aid from the school don't be discouraged. Ask about it and contact the financial aid office, if you genuinely need help they will do everything to get you the money you need. Once you get on campus get involved in something! The organizations here are fun and active and will only enhance your experience (and we all know the college experience is half of what matters in college). Do things out of your normal comfort. If you're a jock go see one of the awesome shows in Buckner or attend a music concert or recital or go to our awesome art gallery! If you're a nerd that doesn't get out of your area of nerdom much then sign up for the spring water skiing class (Rodger [the water skiing instructor] is amazing and hilarious) or go to a swim meet (They get pretty intense) or go on one of the many outdoor recreations trips (we have swim with the manatees and deep sea fishing and paintball and all sorts of fun trips for little to no cost), dare I say it? join greek life. There's so much to do and in college you really should expand beyond your comfort zone and test the waters; FSC offers an expansive amount of options and is a great place to learn about you!

    In three sentences

Florida Southern is a hub of energy on a beautiful campus; it may be expensive but you definitely get your money's worth. The professors are some of the most kind and caring individuals and so are most of the students in the student body. I had high expectations of college and I was sure they would be dashed once I got here, but FSC completely lives up to those expectations!

Great for these types of students

FSC is a great school for students who like a small, bubble-like environment. Everyone gets to know everyone rather quickly because it is such a small school, but the relationships you build with fellow classmates and the professors are very close and very rewarding. If you like to get to know people really well, enjoy having a tight-knit family within your organizations and majors, then FSC is definitely the place for you.

    Tips for prospective students

When I was looking at colleges and deciding which I wanted to go to for the next four years, I did everything I could to get the full experience. I went on many tours, attended lots of informational sessions, talked to current students and professors, stayed the night with current students and even sat in on classes. I very much recommend that anyone looking into coming to FSC do the same. The Admissions Staff is really great about accommodating any requests you may have, and the professors are really good about letting students sit in on their classes and answering any questions you may have. Doing as much as you can to get the feel for the college is a very great thing because it gives you an idea of what the next four years will be like, all of which will hopefully be great, as long as you choose the school that is right for you. That may not necessarily be FSC for you, but then again, it might be, just like it is for me.

    Bang for the buck

While FSC is a great place to go to school, it is also very expensive. The school offers a lot of scholarships and financial aid to the students, but there's still quite a bit of money that comes out of pocket. But don't let that discourage you! The education, experience and relationships you will make here are worth every penny!

    Am enjoying being here

I absolutely LOVE it here. Sure, school gets stressful and you want to escape every once in a while, but you'll find that anywhere. FSC's campus is absolutely gorgeous and friendly, or as my friend from University of South Florida likes to say, It's like your campus is giving me a hug. The people are also fabulous, everywhere you go everyone is smiling, laughing, and having a grand time. There are always events going on on campus, but if you don't want to stay on campus, Lakeland is a great area to explore. Downtown Lakeland is within walking distance from campus, there are lots of lakes around where you can feed the ducks and swans, and if you want to go out jogging, FSC is located on Lake Hollingsworth, where people are running/walking/biking/etc around it at all times of the day and night.

    Am learning a lot

I chose to attend a private college for many reasons, but two of the most important factors were smaller class sizes and the students are more than just a number. At Florida Southern College you definitely have that. My largest class has 40 people, including the professor, and every professor I've had still remembers my name, as well as facts about me like my major and what organizations I'm involved in. The professors here are so friendly and love to get to know each and every student. One of the best professors I have ever had is my mentor, advisor, teacher, boss, research partner and friend. I've learned so much from him and come so far not only as a student, but as an individual, that I am extremely glad to have chosen a small school where I can shine, as opposed to a huge school where I'm just another small fish in a vast sea.

Florida Southern College has recently started a concept called engaged learning. This helps the student really take hold of their education and run off with it. You are in control of your future and Florida Southern follows through with that.

    Am enjoying being here

The education system at Florida Southern College is by far the best I've ever been through. The teachers are very knowledgeable and you are most certainly NOT a number. My name was known by all my professors through the first few weeks of classes. The other students here are very accepting of everyone and extremely nice. There are plenty of ways for one to enjoy their time at Florida Southern. It is definitely a true college experience.

    Am learning a lot

There are plenty of departments for everyone to go into. This school will fit to your standards.

Great for these types of students

students who want to get involved around campus or love community service and projects. our school is always active in community service and there is almost always some event going on around campus!

    Tips for prospective students

definitely visit the campus before you start school so you can get a feel of the environment and meet people right away to make connections with faculty and your future peers. it will come in handy when you ever need help or have questions.

    Bang for the buck

i absolutely love the professors and faculty here. most of the professors here have doctorate degrees and are amazing teachers and leaders of this college most of the faculty here go beyond there job title to help out students in need and just be great role models to all of us.

    Am enjoying being here

the atmosphere around campus is so amazing and the scenery is beautiful. it is a peaceful environment with many places around campus to hang out at or just study at we even have a cyber cafe that stays open until 4am

    Academic Rigor

Florida southern offers a variety of courses including half semester courses that can boost your gpa. one unique class here is modern family or modern myth. it is a sociology roughly based off the television modern family.

Great for these types of students

For art students: they have some interesting teachers and great programs that will push your skills to the limits, and mold you into a sensational artist. For theatre students: One of the main things that attracted me to this school; they have a HUGE and beautiful theatre; and they make good use of it. The theatre program puts forward a lot of great productions that students can enjoy for free.

    Tips for prospective students

If you're an up-and-comer to FSC, I have only one real tip: Be open to new experiences. It's a wonderful way to meet new people and establish friendships that will last a lifetime. I myself met quite a few of my friends playing ultimate Frisbee: a game that, before reaching the FSC campus, I had never even heard of before in my life. As aforementioned, the fraternities hold a plethora of fun events that students can use to socialize. Don't turn a blind eye to anything, because you may be missing out; and a friend is the most important school supply when attending any college away from home.

    Bang for the buck

Florida Southern is surely worth the money you pay. After all, it pays for not just your lodging, but your daily meals are covered. That, and the fact that because it's not a ridiculously huge school, you're not treated as just another number. Just the other day, one of my professors commented that my attire was different than usual. If they have time to notice things like THAT, they'll more than likely have the time to help you out in a time of need.

    Am enjoying being here

Florida Southern is assuredly a spectacular place to be. The campus is simply beautiful, the whole place looks like a postcard. Not to mention, more than half the campus buildings were designed by Frank Loyd Wright! People here are incredibly friendly for the most part, and it's fairly easy to make friends. Fraternity chapters organize lots of delightful little get-togethers to help students meet other students and engage in fun activities. Also: security patrols the campus 24/7, so there's minimal need to worry about any real trouble on the campus.

    Am learning a lot

All of the courses thus far are very interesting; and once you find the study method that works for you, there's no stopping you! I never used to study for tests; but if you use that method here, you're going to get left behind, and FAST. But if you've got a good study buddy, or even just ask the teacher for some tips, (which they'll be more than happy to give, by the way) you'll be acing tests in no time!

    Business, Art, Communication Majors

    Bang for the buck

Its expensive, yes. But at the same time its worth it. The campus is amazing, the dorm rooms are pretty big, there is tons of food, and the tech offered to you (depending on you major).

    Am enjoying being here

Even though the school is small, it is diverse. There are many groups of people here (most friendly) and you will quickly find your niche. On top of that there are MANY groups to join (greek, sports, clubs, etc)

    Am learning a lot

As a graphic design major, I can say that my learning experience is hands on. Compared to other schools with classrooms filled with hundreds of people, classes here have a 30 people max. As such professors really pay attention to your needs as a student.

Get out there and do the activities they offer Inspect your bill and pay attention to deadlines

    Bang for the buck

I understand why it is on the higher end of colleges but there are some hidden fees that they dont really tell you about. It is best if you go find out what your bill includes and where the fees are coming from.

    Am enjoying being here

I live on campus and have for 2, going on 3, years. On top of the academic side of FSC there is also the student life side. A lot of freshman coming in are scared they will get homesick and not have that many friends. Honestly, there is so much to do here during the week and on the weekends, you don't have time to think about being home sick. Its easy to get to know other students too. The activities FSC offers allows you to easily start a conversation with anyone. Yes of course FSC has kinks and problems just like every other school but the difference is, they actually fix them. The students talk and the administration listens.

    Am learning a lot

The professors have small classes and can focus on you as a student. Your not just another number and they will actually call you, some of them, if you do not show up to a few classes, just to make sure everything ok.I know I can go to any professor any time of day even if they are not one of my professors and they are more than happy to help me.Many of them give out their cells to help even more. Even if the professors are not available there are other resources like tutor tables, the career center or even other students. I have learned so much in 2 years here and I've had so much fun while doing it, not many students can say that about school

Great for these types of students

Students with lots of money, or lots of scholarships.

    Tips for prospective students

If you can afford it, come. It's fun, it's beautiful. You have to walk everywhere because there are few parking lots, but the walking is good for you. If you haven't ever gone away from home, get a dorm, you won't regret it.

    Bang for the buck

You pay a lot of money to go here. A LOT. Most times I feel like I get my money's worth, but there are times when I DEFINITELY don't. The food in the Moc Mart is extremely overpriced, for one. For another, the campus is very well made up, as I mentioned previously, but it seems that's where all you money is going. We need new dorms badly, but they continue to plant flowers and water their lawns, at most inconvenient times (like when you need to get to class). It's a great place and I love it, but it feels like they care more about being one of the most beautiful campuses than they do about the students.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is 100% B-E-A-U-TIFUL, there's no denying it. The campus activities are extremely fun and are a good break from studying. You can enjoy the events if you commute, but you get the whole sha-bang if you live on campus. However, when it rains, it RAINS, and you better be prepared when it does. Rainboots, umbrellas, ponchos, or you will be a very wet student.

    Am learning a lot

Most professors here are very willing to help you out, if you help yourself. The only way you don't learn anything is if you don't show up for class and don't try. The professors really know their stuff, and they really seem to enjoy teaching about it.

    Campus Safety

Safety is the greatest. We receive help buttons that let them know we need help and where we are as long as we are within a certain distance of campus. It really makes you feel safer. They are also wonderful about picking up students who would otherwise have to walk alone through campus at night, and dropping them safely at their destination.

Great for these types of students

Students looking for a small, mostly calm, school.

    Bang for the buck

The school is great about giving scholarships to make the school affordable for you, and while the tuition is still on the higher end, I believe it is well worth it. The attention difference between my school and my brother's (a state school) is tremendous. My professors know me, other faculty know me, and because of this, the school is willing to listen to your unique situation and help out in unconventional ways if necessary.

    What to do for fun

There is always some sort of campus activity going and if you want to go off campus, the city of Lakeland is lovely. Besides that, the city is located about 40 minutes from both Tampa (Busch Gardens etc) and Orlando (Disney, Universal, etc).

    Food and Dining

Tutu's is the best. Best food, best employees, best atmosphere. The cafe has a lot of variety but I guess the quality depends on what you are used to. My mother didn't cook a lot so I thought the food was great!

    Dorm Life

There are two new dorms that are great, though they cost a bit more to live in. The appointed freshman housing gets mixed reviews (I was not put in it, as over flow from my class' size). The biggest complaint people seem to have is that some of the housing is quite far from classes.

    Academic Rigor

There are definitely some easier classes, but there are also some really difficult ones as well.

    Tips for prospective students

Contact the admissions office before you apply, often there are codes to waive the fee. GO TO SCHOLARS WEEKEND. It is worth it just for the book money but it is also a great chance to get to feel out the campus, people, and environment.

    In three sentences

Florida Southern is the home I have been looking for in every school I attended. You really are not a number here, but a person, and there is always someone to help you. I have found a family here and know that my college experience will be everything I've ever dreamed for it.

    Campus Safety

Campus Security is everywhere. They will give you rides, and will help with anything. Even moving something, they are amazing and helpful.

    Greek Life

The best thing in the whole school. Every sorority and fraternity is amazing. And just because we have individual sororities or fraternities, we all get a long and we all hang out. It is the best part of the school, and I am so glad I found a home away from home.

Great for these types of students

People who love small town atmospheres, and who are people, people. If you are the outgoing type, it is so cool to walk around campus and people just are so nice. Just strike up a conversation :)

    Bang for the buck

It is really expensive, but most definitely worth it.

    What to do for fun

There are a lot of campus activities to do, we have like greek life, and the lake, and the gym, and lots of organizations that put on events. Also, there are a few places in Lakeland that are fun to go to.

    Food and Dining

There are so many options for food. We have a huge cafeteria, that has every kind of food imaginable, Saturday night is steak night! We have nice places to eat outside, Grill master. A great cafe for homework or just to hang out with friends, Tutu's. And the Under Caf!! Best food ever, open late, and nice people. We also have the Moc Mart where you can get groceries and stuff.

    Dorm Life

The RA's help with everything, and they match roommates very well. I love my room, and roommates.

    Academic Rigor

Teachers help so much, it's amazing. All my professors know my name, what my major is, and who my advisor is.

    Tips for prospective students

It's a big change living away from home, but definitely the school has resources to help, USE THEM! They have lots of fun activities to get to know people, and Greek life is AMAZING!

    In three sentences

The small classes are amazing, and so helpful. I love the beautiful campus. Everything is perfect for small town people.

While it is expensive, it is worth it. Unlike some larger institutions, you can always get in touch with your adviser and you get much more personal attention.

    Am enjoying being here

From my first visit, I felt welcomed. My professors have worked with me to accomplish my goals and I have made some great friends.

    Am learning a lot

I've taken some of the hardest courses of my life here, but I've learned so much and I'm proud of the study skills I've acquired and what I have accomplished.

    Campus Safety

Campus safety is checking for security leaks 24 hours a day seven days a week. Not to mention you are given the option to pay for a safety button, and at any moment if you press that button, sirens blare and an emergency safety officer will speed to your assistance ready to protect you from any harm. The safety here are extremely nice, almost like scouts, and can help you carry your stuff from your car, walk you to your dorm if you are scared, even spray wasps away from your bike if you need them to; they are genuinely good, trustworthy people.

    Greek Life

One word to describe Florida Southern College's Greek Life is exceptional. Greek life is stereotyped as a source of parting college derelicts, except here. We live on a dry campus and no organization wants to have their name associated with alcohol. Not only does it look bad internationally, but it can get you thrown off-campus. Greeks are also stereotyped for hazing, except here. Hazing is prohibited and not tolerated to any extent. Why would you want to harm someone who is going to be your brother/sister? Greeks are again stereotyped as cult members for being exclusive and secretive, except here. 40% of the student population is Greek. The Greek's here are active all over, for a few examples the student government, tutor tables, honors and professional societies, campus ministries, campus staff, and more. Greeks are stereotyped everywhere as self-rich kids, when really it's those very people that start campus organizations to give back and dedicate hours of their own time and money to give back. They are he most philanthropic group of people on the campus. Most people join for the connections and opportunities given within the Greek community but stay for the friendships they make. The only word that can describe the Greek experience is exceptional, because there are no other words to describe the outstanding men and woman that make everything possible and that become such good friends in full justice to their names.

    Clubs and Activities

There are over 70 more non-greek clubs to join. They have an American Sign Language club, foreign debate team, a non-denominational worship group, Young Democrats and Republican committees, as well as many other interest groups, volunteer groups that as a whole have donated over 32000 hours of service this year alone such as American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, To Write Love On Her Arms, TzeDek, Up Till Dawn and Best Buddies. There are also 23 honor societies not including professional societies and extracurricular clubs. There are also dance teams, horn clubs, international student organization the AMSA pre-professional society, student government, and ACE. It is virtually impossible not to find a club with an interest of yours.

Great for these types of students

If you are just looking for an easy degree and just mull by your days, Florida Southern is not for you. Florida Southern is great for people who want to make connections, start careers and do so while having fun in a social and active environment. The only way this school wouldn't behoove those people is if you were looking to be an Olympian in winter sports, in Florida there is a drastic lack of snow and excess of sunshine.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The Sunday before finals, the school always has a Pancake Supper where it's free pancakes at 930pm so you can have a full belly while you study. For most holidays they throw parties in the caf with music and a photographer. The best is the end-of-year carnival where it's free food, rides, photos, music, T-shirts, games, character-drawings and more. Its fun and everyone goes because it is the last event with the seniors. Seniors however, have one more thing to look forward to after graduating. There is a beautiful water fountain outside of the library called the Water Dome in addition to being beautiful, on hot days it is often alluring to jump in it. However, anyone who jumps in the water dome has to pay a $5000 fine, except after graduation, when they set up the water dome and let all the seniors jump in.

    Bang for the buck

It's a little pricey, but once you accept your Admission's Adviser will try to find you scholarships within the school to make tuition more affordable. On Campus, use your swipes, you prepay for them and it is open buffet all you can eat,and take some fruit with you as you go for a snack later. Coffee at tutu's is great, if you like fancy coffee drinks with flavors and espresso, cremice's are tasty bu expensive, get an ice caramel macchiato or a flavored ice coffee for same great taste but less money. Florida Southern does have some campus books where it is specific for that campus but having worked there, with an employee discount on used books it is still cheaper to buy books elsewhere; online, from a former student of that class, really, anywhere else. All in all, Florida Southern College is the best decision you can make, honestly.

    What to do for fun

For fun, you can do anything under the sun-Literally. Florida Southern College is the most beautiful campus in the nation. It is on Lake Hollingsworth in Lakeland, Florida. On any day, you can go to the wellness center and sign up for lessons or outings in any water sport. In addition, with your student ID, you can rent any sporting equipment imaginable. Florida Southern has tennis courts, soccer fields, baseball fields, roller skates, bicycles, ping-pong tables, billiards, a fully equip fitness and workout center, basketball and volleyball courts, sand volleyball courts, and a gorgeous pool. This school also has a group dedicated to planning events on Friday nights for students to come out and enjoy such as dances, movie nights in the garden, pool parties and more. As for off-campus, the downtown is always a fun trip, but the school has buses that can take students to the mall, beach and Orlando attractions such as Disney World, Universal, Wet and Wild, rock-climbing and more on scheduled days. The school also offers classes in yoga, Zumba, weight-training, and boot-camp for all different skill levels weekly and has a plethora of movies and books to rent and common rooms in every residency hall for you to use. In addition, they have chorus, band, political debate or diversity groups, as well as politically active groups, and campus ministries you can involve yourself in if you don't want to be too physically active, or you can always start a group yourself. There are also intramurals where you can join teams to play either the typical sports or crazier events like bat mitten, Tailgate Triathlons, extreme Frisbee, flag-football, water polo, and water-skiing.

    Food and Dining

For the selective eaters, when they say 'steak dinner,' they don't mean filet mignon, they mean a NY strip steak. Besides that minor let down, they tend to fry most of their protein options and when trying to eat healthy, fried isn't the way to go. In total, there are almost always four completely different food stations open; a sandwich bar, Italian pasta and pizza station, a home-cook style food, and a specialty station not including the salad, cereal, fruit, frozen yogurt and desert stations throughout. However, that is for Wynee's Bistro. Campus dining as a whole has thousands of options on a daily basis. They have a mini food mart where you can always find soup and frozen meals to prepare. There is the under cafe, which has a grill so you can choose a healthier protein option from there in addition to smoothies, salads, fruit, frozen yogurt, custom-made sandwiches, fried specialties and soup. There is also the grill-master which is open for lunch until 4pm. It has fresh custom burgers, hot dogs, chicken, tofu and grilled vegetables and is set up in the middle of the educational buildings to you can have a hearty and healthy meal in-between classes to stay focused. Last but never least is Tutu's Cafe. It is a cyber cafe where they proudly brew Starbucks and Tazo brand coffees and teas, as well as, specialty drinks and serves bagels, muffins, fruit, salads, chips, cereal, sandwiches, soup, the best cookies on campus and a different hot meal every day. Service here is ALWAYS great, and there are computers for use as well as free wifi. It is right within the library, and open until 3am so you have a late night option if you're studying. Tip: Try not to stay too late, because the mind is most alert after rest, even if it means getting up a few hours earlier to finish the next morning instead of staying up late.

    Dorm Life

If you are used to living in a crystal clean environment, your immune system may not be prepared for the historical freshmen buildings (so freshmen girls, choose Spivey over Joseph Reynolds for your residency hall when signing up). However, upperclassmen residency halls are gorgeous some have their own full kitchens, where as others, have one hall kitchen. No matter where you live, though, the residency advisers make the living atmosphere enjoyable and fun creating hall events, games and tournaments.

    Academic Rigor

For science classes especially, the classes to require a lot of out-of-class studying as well as it is mandatory to be in class. Some schools simply doing the online homework and showing up for exams are all it takes but not here. If you do not attend the class and simply do the homework you will drown in work. The professors spend a lot of their own time in their offices willing to help everyone who comes to them. It is more than possible to pass, it just depends on how bad you want it. Also, Florida Southern College policy states if you do not pass the Lab you cannot pass the class; it ensures that if they send their students into the world with a degree that they are competent enough to succeed.

    Tips for prospective students

Freshmen living conditions are not up to my standards so you'll need to be twice as diligent with your personal hygiene. Utilize the career center and your adviser because there are so many opportunities and doors they can open for you. Attending this amazing school does not make you better than any other college student. It makes you better than you could ever be on your own. Florida Southern College helps you reach your highest potential in every aspect of life.

    In three sentences

Florida Southern College isn't just a school, it's my home; where my heart is. The community atmosphere is only paralleled to the connections you can make. It is where careers and life-long friendships are made.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved in some organization, whether it be Greek Life or band or a sports team. Make use of the professors' office hours - they are there for your assistance, and will do what they can to help you.

    Bang for the buck

The tuition is expensive per year, but there are plenty of scholarships available and work-study opportunities. Also, a guaranteed study-abroad program is included within tuition.

    Am enjoying being here

Living quarters, despite some minor bug issues, are comfortable and safe. The rule against alcohol on campus allows for nights without loud parties. Professors are willing to work with students on an individual basis if necessary and small class sizes allow for a more personalized learning environment.

    Am learning a lot

The professors are very knowledgeable about their subject matter and gladly pass on their knowledge in class. Also, instead of merely lecturing during class, professors make sure to practice engaged learning so that students can learn through participation.

    Campus Safety

we have an active campus safety team that patrol the school constantly. also, each student is issued a key fob that is unique to their id number and if in an emergency the person was in trouble they could trigger that key fob and it would send a signal to campus safety who and where that person was so they can dispatch help.

    Greek Life

i'm in active in greek life, but we have upwards of about 16 sororities and fraternities on campus. there a bit different than your average greek life because they're very involved in philanthropic projects and very open to receiving new members.

    Clubs and Activities

there are a ton of student organizations that people can get involved in.

Great for these types of students

great for students who like small class sizes and a small student body.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

all the architecture on campus was designed by frank lloyd wright, so it's really neat to walk around and see all the oddly shaped buildings. the school is also located on a lake, so it's nice to go down and sit by the water on warm days.

    Bang for the buck

the school is a little over-priced.

    What to do for fun

hang out with friends around campus. you can also go to the wellness center and work out or go swimming. there are intramural sports being played all year long, so you can get involved in some of those. lots of campus ministries and campus clubs and organizations to choose from. we also have a stellar theatre department and they have four productions a year that people can be a part of or watch.

    Food and Dining

there aren't a whole lot of healthy choices, they're there but there aren't a lot of them.

    Dorm Life

almost all of the dorms are pretty nice. the most complaints that i have heard were more about room-mates than the actual dorms themselves.

    Academic Rigor

the course work definitely requires a time commitment, but it's not impossible to get your work done. you just have to figure out how to manage your time wisely.

    Tips for prospective students

get involved as soon as you get to the school. it's much easier to make friends and get over being home-sick when you're out doing things on campus with friends. try to avoid going overboard with it though because the course work does require a lot of studying and dedication.

    In three sentences

the academics and people at florida southern are great. they really try to help you achieve your goals. one of the biggest downfalls about the school is that it's growing faster than it can accommodate.

    Campus Safety

campus safety is mad serious. you can't go anywhere on campus, day or night, without seeing one of the safety officials/officers riding around in their golf cart.

    Greek Life

whatever t.v., movies, and so on taught you about greek life... forget it!!! it is nothing like it.

    Food and Dining

the food is great! there is a lot of variety from t cafeteria to terrace (basically your made-to-order burgers/salads/sandwiches, etc....) to freshens (smoothies!!). there will be something you can't wait to sink your teeth into.

    Dorm Life

dorm life is ok. then again, i'm a freshman, so maybe it will get better? well, i think it will since i get to live with my new sisters in the sorority house next year!!!

    Academic Rigor

the classes are what you would expect from professors with phd's. however, every professor here (or at least the ones i've met) is more than happy to help you make it through their class.

    In three sentences

this is the most beautiful campus i have ever seen! i love just being here in my dorm, in the three-floored library, and especially just sitting out in the huge grassy fields. i really wouldn't trade this college for any other.

nothing to worry about - everyone feels safe walking around at night and in their dorms.

    Greek Life

great way to make friends and get to know a large number of people on campus. members get along better than is often seen at larger schools, although there are less large-scale events.

    Clubs and Activities

great greek life and sga. lacking clubs for students who are interested in things, but not great at them, such as glee club (singing) or a fun dance group that does not perform.

Great for these types of students

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

the fountain is a pretty site during the day & the site of the graduation swim, and students always joke about the abundance of gardens all around campus.

    Bang for the buck

financial aid and scholarships are extremely helpful, although it is still an expensive school.

    What to do for fun

tampa and orlando are both within an hours drive, as well as clearwater beach - all of which are great for a day trip! student government offers quite a few on campus activities, and the lake is always a great place to chill. there is some shopping and dining in the lakeland area that is comparable to that of a larger city.

    Food and Dining

limited options, especially for vegetarians. lack of choices!

    Dorm Life

suites in publix are great! large dorms for freshman too. however, buildings don't have elevators and most dorms are fairly old.

    Academic Rigor

the art department demands passionate, hard-working students and students in the sport med and biology programs often are very busy, especially athletic training majors. however, most core classes and general subjects don't require an amount of work above an expected college level.

    Tips for prospective students

if you want a small school atmosphere with great programs, this school is perfect! make sure you understand what you're getting into, where you will know everyone and everyone will know you.

    Campus Safety

Safety drives around on golf carts and is slow to respond. There was a fight in the cafe one day, and it took Safety 30 minutes to get there (by which time the fight had ended, and the girls had left) even though they are 2 minutes or less walking distance from the cafe.

    Greek Life

There are 7 frats and 7 sororities. Most of the girls are stuck-up, especially ADPi. They usually only take blondes that are pretty, and absolutely no fat girls. Guys are the typical frat guys, but PIKE is the best as far as I can tell. I'm not in a sorority or fraternity, so I'm not being biased.

    Clubs and Activities

There are a lot of clubs, but it doesn't make up for the rest of the school.

Great for these types of students

Slackers and people who don't care about a strict and unhelpful school.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The campus is pretty, mainly because they put most of the money into it instead of helping students and making the school more academic.

    Bang for the buck

If it were not for the amazing professors (at least for the classes I have taken but for a couple) I wouldn't be here, and I bet a lot of other students would not be here either. The school doesn't care about its students, and it's not reputable. It says it's on the move, but it's going backwards. And the school is trying to become basically just math and science, so good bye social sciences and, fine arts, and languages.

    What to do for fun

The only places to go for fun are local bars like Kaus and Socialite. The campus hosts boring events for the weekend, but like I said, they're boring.

    Food and Dining

The food is good on special weekends, like homecoming or when prospective students visit for the weekend, but do not be fulled by this! The school is so cheap that the cooks will make cake one day and serve it the next couple of days, add sprinkles and serve it a couple more days, and then add M&M's and serve it a few more days; no joke.

    Dorm Life

It's a dry campus, and if you're caught you're charged a fine. You're not allowed to have the opposite sex in your room between 1 AM and 10 AM, or you get fined. There are random room checks that can get a lot of students in trouble.

    Academic Rigor

Most of the classes are a joke. Even the 3000 level classes are easy if you put in a bit of effort. Anyone who complains of it being too hard simply doesn't try, so if you want to slack off and still get good grades, come here.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved...or don't come here at all.

    In three sentences

The professors are amazing, and honestly, the only good thing about this school. The school cares more about their gardens than the students, and it shows. It's expensive and not worth it if you want an actual college experience.

    What to do for fun

Lay by the pool Walk/rollerblade/run the lake people go out thursday and saturday to a few different places every once in a while there are events held events are more prevalent if you are in greek life

    Food and Dining

AVOID THE CAFE! Florida Southern's upper cafeteria is pretty famous among its students for something we call cafe stomach which is not something anyone enjoys. The undercaf and tutu's cyber cafe have great dine in or take out selections. basically anything you could want.

    Dorm Life

I live in Joseph Reynolds freshman girls dorm. I have lived in 2 different rooms and the size as well as the amenties really vary from room to room. If you think you can handle it try a quad. That way you'll have more chances to get along with those you live with. The building is really old and it is pretty obvious. Definitely not a four or five star hotel. More like a dump.

    Academic Rigor

The classes are challenging but in the best way possible. because the school is so small all of the professors take time to really get to know each of their students and are willing to guide you through any of your hardships.

    Tips for prospective students

Take an art class. attend social gatherings SPEND TIME OUTSIDE

    In three sentences

The academic programs are phenomenal, I could not have picked a better school for my educational purposes. The social scene is not great. There are very few activities for those outside of Greek life and many of the students stick to small groups as if in high school.

I am originally from Miami, and a nontraditional student that is returning after a long hiatus.

    What to do for fun

The local area in Lakeland has malls and shops that you expect in metropolitan areas. Located between Tampa and Orlando so plenty of fun going either way, but in town has many attractions.

    Food and Dining

The food and dining options were plentiful when I took a tour in Spring 2012. Clean areas and plenty of seating for students and staff. The main dining area has great sceneries outside the window as you dine with friends.

    Dorm Life

I will be living off campus.

    Academic Rigor

I am transferring from a 2 year school and the class size ratio at Florida Southern is part of what will make it worth attending to complete my Bachelors degree. The professors I met when applying didn't sugarcoat that you will work hard, but they have been involved in real world employment connected to my major so they are good sources.

    Tips for prospective students

See the campus first hand and speak with professors to get a feel of what expectations they have and you will have of your professors. Ask questions.

    In three sentences

Florida Southern is very impressive in terms of educational goals and class size. The staff will attempt to grant almost any requests even if you're a prospective student. You actually feel a genuine sense of welcome the moment you step on campus.

    What to do for fun

There isn't a ton to do around Lakeland. There are some clubs that under 21 can get into, there are several on campus associations to join, and usually something to do on campus. If you look for fun, you'll find it. Lakeland is just like any other typical city/town.

    Food and Dining

Several options are available, but, as per usual, the same food over and over gets annoying, and you become more grateful for a home cooked meal.

    Dorm Life

My dorm smelt like mold for a long time, and the set up isn't exactly favorable. But, its college, not a five star hotel. It is just a place to sleep, and if you are a good college student, you wont spend all day every day in your room anyways.

    Tips for prospective students

Any upcoming senior or current senior should definitely fill out as many scholarships as possible. The less you have in loans and out of pocket, the better. Also, don't stress about declaring a major, you'll probably change it a few times in the next few years anyways,.

    In three sentences

Florida Southern College offers a lot in terms of highly intelligent professors, mostly affordable tuition, internships, and a junior journey. However, as per usual, the financial aide staff is somewhat rude, and they do not always tell you everything to help you. It is a great school outside of that, and small undergraduate college is a fantastic choice to make.

Great for these types of students

Great for students who are very focused on their education or are looking for a small school environment. I myself did not want to go to a school that was so big that I was just a number. At Florida Southern you will never be a number, nor will you ever be taught by a teacher assistant (TA).

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The campus is very historical because it is houses the largest collection of Frank Lloyd Wright architecture in the world. Most of these buildings you will use daily for classrooms, and others such as Annie Pfeiffer Chapel are used all the time for on-campus worship! The campus is also known to have many ghost stories and secrets that only the students know, but that it up to your own discretion ;)

    Bang for the buck

The school gives a lot to the students in the way of financial aid that makes it very good when it comes to bang of the buck

    What to do for fun

The school itself puts on many activities such as visits from the guys from The Buried Life on MTV, an end of the year carnival, free orchestra, chorale, and band concerts, free musicals and plays, Hot Air balloon rides, and more! The school is also conveniently located 45 minutes from downtown Orlando and Tampa! The school is located 5 minutes from Downtown Lakeland, which offers lots of nice family owned restaurants and nice atmosphere! There is also the wonderful Lake Hollingsworth located on the campus which can be used for the track or for water sports and activities!

Wynee's is the cafeteria on campus, which serves a variety of food for many different lifestyles. They also offer a section called World Tour that features a different foods from different areas of the world daily. The school also offers fast food opportunities in the Undercaf and Grill Master, such as Burgers, Quesidillas, Fries and more. Lastly, Tutu's Cyber Cafe serves Starbucks Coffee in a cafe environment, along with pastries, sandwiches, and other to-go food items!

    Dorm Life

The dorm life is awesome at FSC! The people are all very friendly and it really is a small community of friends. The older buildings (freshman dorms) are not the nicest places to live, but the campus surroundings are awesome! The upper class men housing in Publix Commons and Barnett Complex are awesome and new!

    Academic Rigor

Florida Southern College is ranked #1 regional college in Florida by US News and World Report College Guide, and #2 regional college in the region. This shows the high academic standards at FSC. The teachers also work in an engaged learning process that allows students to have a more hands on approach to their education.

    Tips for prospective students

Be prepared for a very personal experience at FSC. The teachers will all know you by name, and will talk to you in passing on campus all the times. The student body is also very small, so be prepared to leave for classes early every morning because you will constantly be running into people you know! Such an awesome experience if you ask me.

    In three sentences

Florida Southern's small school environment is a wonderful place to be. The faculty is always there to help and the beautiful Frank Lloyd Wright architecture is awesome to be able to see on a daily basis! Florida Southern is also ranked as the #1 most beautiful campus by the Princeton Review!

    Campus Safety

In my stay here, there has been no serious violence on campus, so on that front, the Campus security is great. Now if you lose something of importance, you can always go to the campus security office and they will most likely have what you are looking for, considering some nice soul turned it in!

    Greek Life

Though I do not belong go a sorority/fraternity of my own, I have seen what these groups do and I can say that they are sisterhood/brotherhood like no other. They are there for their brother's and sisters no matter what. One day I wish to join one of these amazing groups and have a family away from home.

    Clubs and Activities

If you see a club that you want, but it doesn't exist on our campus, put in an application for it to begin! You can make your group, no matter what it is so you and your friends can be recognized for your talents!

    Bang for the buck

It's an expensive college, I'm afraid. The books are expensive, the things that come with the books are expensive... You will need a lot of scholarships just to survive. DO. SCHOLARSHIPS. This is me begging you. As much as a lovely place this campus is, if you do not have the money to afford your books...it sucks a little bit.

    What to do for fun

Bored? Need something to do? Well FSC has many possible opportunities for you to spend your time having fun! For those of you who prefer the quiet life, the Roux library hosts many different categories of literature and film. You can take your newly acquired books to one of the campus' many gardens and have a calm read on a windy day. Every semester, the theatre and music departments put on plays and concerts for the campus! For those who are more outgoing, we have a pool that you could go to for a good time with your friends! If that isn't extreme enough for you, you can also rent a boat and go out on our own Lake Hollingsworth! Oh, and one cannot forget the end of the school year festival the Fairwell Festival The one event that sends the students off for the rest of the year!

    Food and Dining

Sadly, if you can't afford the meal plan, you miss out on the many different items that the people in the Caf' can make! All weeks are themed around some topic and you will be introduced to a wide array of main meals, salads, and desserts!

    Dorm Life

Though I have not experienced living in the dorms just yet, word does spread around the campus of what goes on in there. First of all, many of the dorm buildings have lovely study areas with numerous couches and tables for any student or students who want to spend the night studying with friends.

    Academic Rigor

A class is only a difficult as you make it! Some of the courses are actually very difficult, but don't let that turn you away! If you need any help on any class you may be taking we have these things called Tutor Tables where people come to help you on whatever topic that you are having difficulty with! Also, don't be afraid f your professors! They may be scarysometimes, but all they want is for you to do your best and if you need their help, go to them. They usually have office hours in which that have free time to talk any student who comes in.

    Tips for prospective students

-The Caf' is called Wynee's Bistro. Just call it the Caf'. -You may see stray fluffy cats on the campus. Do not touch them, but feel free to get the warm fuzzies on the inside. -Get your books anywhere but the school store! They are cheaper and you will not have to look at your wallet and cry. -Also, go to the fun events! The people who work hard to put these events together want lots of people to come to enjoy what they're worked on for half a year! Your adviser is your friend! Talk to them about anything you need to talk about!

    In three sentences

More gardens every single year! Get here early or looking for a parking spot will be tedious and time consuming. Teachers are the good kind of crazy so you have a moderate to high chance of liking who you get.

    What to do for fun

There's a lot to do at FSC. You have the lake where you can go kayaking. You have the Gym and they offer group exercise classes such as Zumba, Combat, and many others. You also have events hosted by ACE which is the organization that provides campus entertainment. The Theater department has about 3 plays a year and one musical, so you have some drama to see. The music department hosts concerts throughout the year. There's always something happening at FSC so you will have plenty to do for fun there.

    Food and Dining

I gotta say that the food is just one of the things that did not capture me the most but I I like the dining plan. It is a point system and you can buy at any food establishment and the grocery store at the college. It is not a very big school, therefore there's not many establishments. There's a cafe, a terrace, and the cafeteria where you a variety of foods and the change every day.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is great. I love the buildings at FSC, especially the girl's freshmen dorms. The buildings are quite old, but they preserve the college for what it was and it is. The dorms have a beautiful view of the lake and I love that. You can be in your room and there's a peaceful view to get your mind of the day's stress. I don't know why but the people you meet at your dorms always end up being your friends. And also the RA's always help you adjust yourself to college life. Also, there are event's hosted at different dorms, so you're always having fun.

    Academic Rigor

I enjoy my classes at FCS. I don't have to worry about missing information or failing at class. I can always go to the professors and they always help me with what I need. What captivated me was the effort the professors put in their students. If they see you're failing or having difficulties, they go the extra mile to make sure you get back up on track. The classes are very practical, and even though it's just a general course, the professors make it fun.

    Tips for prospective students

Be yourself! The transition from high school to college is drastic. At first you'll be nervous, and scared because you're on your own but at FSC you don't have to won't have to worry. It is a Methodist affiliated school and everyone there is very friendly. Always ask questions. The professors will help you personally with every question you have. They make sure that you succeed in their classes. Be Active! FSC offers a variety of clubs and organizations, there's also events going on every week. They have a gym with plenty of equipment and you have a beautiful lake where you can go kayaking in the weekends. It is offered for free for FSC students and there's also locations outside of town you can go. You have plenty of attractions surrounding you that are not very far from the school.

    In three sentences

Florida Southern is the most beautiful school you will ever attend. It's beautiful for its campus, however the community, the faculty, everyone at FSC makes you feel at home, like you belong there, and that's why I'll always love FSC because of the small classes and the attention the faculty spends on every student. At FSC you're not just a number, you're a person, a friend.

The are lots of restaurants and stores close to campus, the only problem with walking to them is having to cross the busy Florida Ave that runs close by. Lake Hollingsworth in front of campus also has a nice three mile running track fill of wading birds.

    Food and Dining

The food is good and the meal plans quite a bit larger than what most people would need. Freshmen are forced to have the largest meal plan which is really too much for a non-athlete. Some dishes show up in the cafeteria often but there will also be rarer fair such as every dish being from a certain country/region for the day.

    Dorm Life

Most of the buildings are pretty old but are kept in shape. Several time a month there will be some sort of activity going on in a dorm lobby, be it spooky bingo for Halloween or a nighttime scavenger hunt.

    Academic Rigor

The classes aren't too difficult but you learn a lot in them without having to do lots of tedious busy work in most of them. The small classes also make it easy to ask questions.

    Tips for prospective students

Make absolutely sure you have funds available above what you're financial aid says you would owe. It has a habit of changing on short notice not always for a lower number.

    In three sentences

The campus is beautiful and the school has a good biology program. The classes are small making it easy to ask questions and the professors seem very competent in what they are teaching. The cost is a bit high though.

    Campus Safety

It's safe. We have a group called Campus Safety and they are basically ready and aware twenty four hours a day just in case a student needs something or something happens. The Safety Office is very attentive and they are even willing to give you a ride if your car breaks down or you get stranded somewhere.

    Greek Life

HUGE, this campus is centered around greek life. More than sixty percent of the campus is involved in greek life so you won't miss out.

    Clubs and Activities

There are way too many to mention. The campus has something every week to every other week. Sometimes I have to decide between events because there are so many.

Great for these types of students

Outgoing, social, and just enjoy time with friends but also know when to buckle down and study.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Well the entire campus was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright so the campus in itself is unusual in that the ceiling outside is short and inside it's tall. The campus has a beautiful water-dome which is basically a giant fountain and the seniors get to swim in it for graduation. That's a big deal because if you try to swim in it any other time you could be fined five thousand dollars.

    Bang for the buck

Honestly, it's a bit pricy but you get great things out of it. Firstly since it's a small campus the professors can give you more attention so don't be afraid to drop by their offices. Also, you are guaranteed an internship and a study abroad trip which is already included in your tuition.

    What to do for fun

The campus has an AMAZING gym, it's called The Hollis Wellness Center and it has giant windows that let you see a beautiful view of lake Hollingsworth as you exercise. The campus also has a pool, and with Florida's amazing weather, the pool is definitely the place to be. If you feel that is not enough then you can travel to the beach which is about 45 minutes to one hour away. In addition to that, the campus is also very close to theme parks like Busch Gardens, Universal Studios, and of course Disney.

    Food and Dining

The food is not as bad as everyone claims, it's good food, you simply get tired of it after a while. Fortunately the campus is in a central area so there are plenty of places that you could go out to eat and hang out with some friends.

    Dorm Life

I am a commuter so I do not stay in a dorm but I have heard that it's pretty good. It all depends on which dorms you stay in. Some dorms have bad wifi connections and others are just plain old.

    Academic Rigor

It's not the most difficult work but if you do not study then you will fall behind on classes relating to your major so be careful.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't worry if you're a freshman, at Florida Southern the upperclassmen get along with the underclassmen very well and try to make them feel at home. The greek life is HUGE here at Florida Southern and so are the intramural sports, so if you like having a family of friends and playing sports this is the place to be!

    In three sentences

The campus is beautiful and has won the most beautiful campus in the nation for two years. The sense of involvement and community at Florida Southern is amazing because it feels like everyone knows everyone. Lastly, the campus is very close to downtown, this makes it very convenient to go out with some friends and grab some pizza or eat at a fancy restaurant.

    Food and Dining

I'd say this area leaves a bit to be desired. Although it has its moments, the cafeteria provides most of the same cuisine daily, which gets boring very quickly. However the Terrace Cafe, called the Under Caf by students, has a good variety and is open until one AM most nights.

    Dorm Life

For the most part, dorm life is great. Yes, Hollis looks resembles a prison but JR and Spivey are really beautiful. If only the on-campus upperclassman housing options had full kitchens, life would be perfect! The assigned rooms are usually nice and are fairly bigger than I had expected.

    Academic Rigor

The professors definitely challenge your critical thinking. The assigned work regularly requires research, but professors emphasize students' own conclusions must be included. The professors are always available and happy to help students with questions.

    In three sentences

Florida Southern is a very small and close knit community.

The main dinning facility is a buffet style Bistro. I've eaten there a few times and there is a great selection of food for all three meals of the day. There are also small cafes and coffee shops on campus for snacks on the go.

    Dorm Life

The dorms seem very nice and give you a lot of base furniture. I will elaborate more once I move it.

    Academic Rigor

I haven't yet attended my first semester so I'm not able to elaborate on the academic rigor yet.

    In three sentences

Every member of the Florida Southern community is welcoming and warm. I've had absolutely no problems in getting ready for my college years because of all the guidance they offer. It's a beautiful campus with great academic challenges and opportunities.

    Campus Safety

Campus Safety is always driving around campus. and incoming freshmen get a safety alarm to carry around on a key chain that works within 1 mile of campus.

    What to do for fun

The school try's to do a few events a week they aren't always exciting sometimes they border corny but they are a great way to get out of your room hang out with friends and make new friends.

    Food and Dining

There are a few places around campus to get food, the main cafeteria which is buffet style and works on swipes. Second there is the Under-Caf located underneath the Cafeteria and is more fast food but they do have alot of healthy options. Finally the Grillmaster and Tutu's Cafe both pretty good for lunch but you better get to them fast because the lines get really long.

    Dorm Life

The Dorms are not co-ed for those people who look foward to that in big Universties. Each building is different some have community bathrooms others don't, some only have single rooms others only double rooms. It really just depends on your preference in your second year.

    Academic Rigor

Small class sizes, your Professors will remember you very quickly and when they see you around campus they will stop and say hi.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved, don't stay in your room all day, get out and be active. There may not always be something to do but there is always someone to meet and talk to.

    In three sentences

Florida Southern is the place to go if you want to be in the Florida weather, and be surrounded by constant beauty all year round. If you're wanting to go Greek its also where you want to be, about 60-70% of the student body is involved in Greek Life. There's also a cute little downtown area within a 5 minute drive from campus if you want to relax and get something to eat or go out at the end of the week.

Then there's the Terrance Cafe, what we call the Under-cafe, which provides simple meals for students. There are also the Grill Master located on campus, one by the freshman dorms and the other by the library. Each of these places provide good quality meals and the best part is they don't cost a thing for students. The school uses meal points.
