Categories Comments Great for these types of students Not ready/unable to move away from home. Limited financial resources Want to get GE out of the way before transferring.
Tips for prospective students If you don't have a lot of financial options, or aren't quite ready to attend a four year univeristy, this is a great option. You can get your general education out of the way for a fraction of the cost at four year schools, and the college has transfer agreements with many colleges in the area. Very transfer oriented for a community college, and the teachers expect students to work hard and learn. This will prepare you for a four year college without hurting your wallet. If you want to be lazy, this isn't a college for you, but if you want to complete your GE for as little money and as quickly as possible, you will do well here.
Bang for the buck Very affordable! 20 dollars a credit? You can't get much cheaper than that. And the classes are small, friendly, and organized. You will get a great education, more than value for your money.
Am enjoying being here This is a college that is a segway for most students, as it has a high transfer rate. Knowing this, classes are geared towards helping students prepare for transfer and to make sure they are taking classes they need.
Am learning a lot Because it's such a small school, the classes are small and the teachers really care and make an effort to get to know you. This is a great school that gives you as much as you put into it, and the small class sizes and caring teachers really make a difference. Class offerings are substancial and help is always available.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Folsom Lake College is a great campus for those students that have a burning desire to transfer from an acknowledged campus to a 4-year institution. It is a great campus to get all of the general education requirements out of the way at a fraction of the cost that a tradition 4-year institution would cost.
Tips for prospective students One thing that I would urge prospective students to do is to watch deadlines like a hawk and do everything as early as possible. With the state budget being late and education being a lower priority than it should be, competition for a seat in any class is tough. So if you have even the slightest notion that you are going to attend this campus, get done with your assessment test early and speak with a counselor as soon as possible.
Bang for the buck When it comes to getting your bang for the buck, nothing could apply more to this than community college. At Folsom Lake College, it is $26 per unit so for a full time student, someone who is enrolled in at least 12 units, it comes to $624 for both the fall and spring semester. At a CSU or an UC, it costs more than triple the amount for a year of attendance, so Folsom Lake College is a good way to save money if transferring to a 4-year university is in your future. With the economy in dire straights at the moment, families are doing everything they can to send their children to college, so if finances are the number one factor in considering which college to attend, going to FLC or any other community college is a very good choice. What also contributes to getting your bang for your buck is TAG, the Transfer Admission Guarantee program that they have at all community colleges, so Folsom Lake College is included. Davis, Irvine, Merced, Riverside, San Diego, Santa Barbara and Santa Cruz are the seven UC campuses that offer this program and it is a great way to take some of the anxiety off your chest. If you do decide to do this program, you would be getting your lower division general education requirements out of the way, be saving money while taking those classes, and have guaranteed admission to any one of those exceptional colleges as long as you fulfill all of the requirements. is campus is also a part of the Los Rios Community College District, so there are four accredited colleges that you can attend, FLC being one of the four. Since these four colleges are part of the same district, it is easier for you to take classes at one college and have those credits recognized by another college in the same district which takes away the stress of wondering if these credits will count or not – therefore this is also another way that FLC gives you your bang for your buck.
Am enjoying being here Folsom Lake College could definitely not be considered a party college in any way, shape or form. However, what FLC has to offer is a true state-of-the-art campus. Everything on campus is new and in top form, so that is a huge advantage for students attending this school. Transferring students is a big priority for the staff here on campus, so that makes me appreciate them and their efforts as someone who is looking to transfer to UC San Diego, a highly competitive school. FLC is a very safe campus, located in a suburban community so although it is quiet, you can easily find something to do to occupy your time whether that be through volunteering or other means. Sacramento and other large cities are also in a close proximity, so one can never truly be bored with many places to go to such a short distance away.
Am learning a lot Learning is a personal experience and what you take is directly correlated with what you put into it. The class sizes at Folsom Lake College are relatively small – definitely smaller than what you would find at the CSU’s or UC’s. This is a big benefit for those students who thrive on personal one on one interaction with the professor. If you get past the negative stereotype that is associated with community college, you will find professors that are not only willing to use their expertise to help you with problems, but that want to help you. People seem to forget that the main purpose of a community college is so that students who could not go to a CSU or an UC for whatever reason, be that due to academic or financial issues, would be able to seamlessly transfer into one of those institutions. So even though there are more remedial classes than there are transfer classes, there are dedicated students that attend Folsom Lake College so that they can go anywhere from UC Berkeley or to the more local Sac State. Therefore, if you put in the effort and really apply yourself, you will truly learn a lot more than you think you will.

Categories Comments Campus Safety folsom lake college has california state police on campus and very low to non-existent crime rates.
Great for these types of students students who like small campus's, students that like a quieter college.
What to do for fun folsom itself has plenty of outdoors activities such as hiking, river rafting and boating as well as bowling alleys, movie theaters, shopping centers. whatever you need folsom should have it. 10 mins from campus in old folsom, the night life is lively with kids from all around, having fun in the local bars.
Food and Dining the cafeteria is small but has a wide selection of food. they have a selection of hand made sandwiches, burgers, pizza and stir fry that you can choose from. you will never feel crowded or have to wait in really long lines which is always a plus. there are a very large number of restraurnts as well that are all a very short drive away in case you need to stay close.
Dorm Life there are no dorms at folsom lake college.
Academic Rigor the staff at folsom lake, are very eccentric and have a very welcoming personality. i am never afraid to ask a question in the classes and always feel apart of their discussions. the class sizes are of a perfect size and allow the teachers to know you on a personal level. the staff is also very knowledgeable and can answer any question you ask of them.
Tips for prospective students although not the cheapest place to live, the outlying towns are close by the school and are much more affordable. the campus itself is complete with a cafeteria with a small but ample choice of food and drinks.
In three sentences folsom lake college is a modern college, complete with a staff and facility that would rival any college today. folsom lake college also resides in the heart of the beautiful town of folsom, california, where you have the finest choices of restaurants and activities. during the summer, you can even drive to a multiple number of lakes, including the infamous lake tahoe.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus police are friendly and are a force to be reckonned with...remember to buy your parking permit!
Clubs and Activities There are always new clubs popping up around campus! There are several club-rush opportunities for students to explore more activities.
Great for these types of students Folsom Lake is great for a student who is unsure if their future goals, and is great for students who wish to transfer to a university without overpaying for general education.
Bang for the buck Classes are as reasonably priced as the government allows. Students recieve a far higher quality of education than they pay for at Folsom, and are provided extremely helpful services in the counseling office.
What to do for fun Folsom Lake College is placed directly across from beautiful movie theater and shopping mall, a key place for students to hang out. If students need to get away, the lake is fifteen minutes from campus, and several fishing ponds are scattered throughout the Folsom area. If you just need to take a break between classes, you can to the Falcon's Roost to shoot pool and play arcade games.
Food and Dining The Java City coffee hut kept me alive during finals for two semesters. The cafeteria offers several healthy food options, and is a great place for students to decompress. As well as many healthful food options, the cafeteria offers several convenient employment options for students.
Academic Rigor The professors have a way of making difficult subjects such as math seem easy. They are there to challenge students, yet help them along the way toward success. Reaching success is only as hard as the student makes it for their self.
Tips for prospective students Take time to talk to a counselor and set up an academic plan! If you plan your classes ahead of time, enrollment dates won't be so painful. Have several back up schedules in place to protect yourself from being unable to find open classes.
In three sentences Folsom Lake College harbors professors who have your best interest in mind. The staff will jump through hoops to help you succeed. The welcoming atmosphere eases the stress of college life.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Very safe; the campus police are very active and they also check every car for their parking permits so be cautious about that!
Clubs and Activities Too many clubs and activities to count! Anti-gay club to gaming club and there is also a club that is in charge of the campus activities each week at EDC.
Great for these types of students FLC is great for any student who is determined to learn.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There are weekly events on campus, especially at the EDC campus.
Bang for the buck I am currently paying out-of-state tuition, but I believe the normal tuition for residents of California is definitely worth every penny.
What to do for fun The main campus is beautiful; you can study outside with study groups, or you can study inside the library. There are study rooms inside the library that give each group private areas to work together.
Food and Dining Food is incredible. Folsom Lake Main Campus breakfast burritos are the best!
Dorm Life No dorms at Folsom Lake College
Academic Rigor Strictness depends on the class and teacher. However, no classes are easy A's with absolutely zero effort.
Tips for prospective students Future students, don't expect community college to be any easier than a university. The classroom sizes are smaller, but you still need to work for your grade.
In three sentences Folsom Lake College is definitely a place to begin and/or continue your education. Everyone is friendly and there to help you through your college experience. Folsom Lake College is like one big family.

Categories Comments Campus Safety This campus feels extremely safe. I have never heard of any crimes, and there are always lots of police if you need one.
Clubs and Activities There are many clubs and activities to get involved in! theres dance, nutrition, chemistry, and many more!
Bang for the buck You definitely get your bang for your buck at this school! highly recommended for financially responsible.
What to do for fun The school is right next to Folsom Lake. There is also a lot of shopping, and activities to do around town.
Food and Dining There is some great restaurants and dining right around the school, as well as a great cafeteria in the school.
Dorm Life There is no dorm option at this school.
Academic Rigor It really depends on the class and the teacher on the rigor. Some classes are very challenging and others are a little more relaxed.
Tips for prospective students Classes fill up quickly, so make sure you register early and plan your schedule ahead of time. Take advantage of all of the learning facilities provided, such as the reading and writing centers. The counseling center is also a very useful tool, when helping with classes and transfering.
In three sentences Folsom Lake College has an excellent staff that is always willing to help you. The campus is very clean and makes you feel very safe. The classes are usually smaller, giving each student prime opportunity to learn.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students that aren't sure of themselves yet, students that need extra reinforcement of undergrad/high school skills, students look for a cheaper alternative to a four year with similar quality
Tips for prospective students Give it a shot! It's a great place to find yourself if you're not sure where you want to be yet (like me!).
Bang for the buck Need I say more than a semester of instruction with a Ph.D. for $108? Great quality for ridiculous prices.
Am enjoying being here The environment at Folsom Lake is very clean and fresh. Much of the equipment is new or like new, and the buildings are very well built: pretty and functional. The quality of the teachers extends not only to the education, but their desire to help you to feel better about your goals, expand your horizons, and bring you closer to where you want to be. The student interactions here are different for everyone; if you want to be alone, that's easily doable here, but if you're like me and need people around to keep you from going totally insane, friends are not hard to come by at Folsom Lake.
Am learning a lot Maybe it's just because I'm younger than most other college students, but I find that I am learning an amazing number of new things. The teachers here are sometimes not quite up to par, either on ability to teach or qualification to teach, which is why I took off a star, but the vast majority of instruction I have received has been amazing and of the greatest quality. One of my music professors has a Ph.D. in musical composition! I mean, can you ask for better qualifications?

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Aren't looking to spend too much for college Don't want to move too far away, or move at all. Want a flexible schedule that works well with your personal life.
Tips for prospective students I would consider attending this school, even if community colleges don't appeal to you, I would take this one into consideration.
Bang for the buck Oh my goodness, community college is so much cheaper than a university. This school is perfect for someone who doesn't want to pay that much for general ed.
Will enjoy being here I wouldn't mind not having to pay for moving expenses, this school seems as though it it perfect in that I can choose which location is better for me.
Will learn a lot It has more than one location which is really nice for those who want to stay close

Categories Comments Campus Safety i always feel very safe at folsom lake college! safety has never been an issue for me, because the campus police always makes their presence known. and the location, in a very safe city, is very reassuring. with the new theater, the three stages, there are always people coming and going, so it's never a quiet or unsafe environment.
Clubs and Activities there are a bunch of clubs at folsom lake college, with something to interest everyone. i personally have not participated in any clubs at folsom lake college because of the number of courses i'm taking, but there are always club reminders on bulletins around the campus.
Bang for the buck at about $36 per unit, the cost of education at folsom lake college is really affordable. and there is financial aid, as well as scholarships that the college offers to make that cost go down even more. going to folsom lake college for two years has helped me save money for a four-year college, and i will be getting two associate's degrees from folsom lake college!
What to do for fun because this is a community college, there are not as many fun activities to do on campus, but there are a lot of fun classes such as yoga, stretch, and kickboxing. there are lots of places to eat near the campus and there is a shopping center two minutes away from folsom lake college. there are also workshops, such as a stress relieving workshop, but there are not very many activities on campus.
Food and Dining the falcon's roost has a java city coffee cart and the food offered in the cafe has a wide variety, with something for literally everyone. there are also specials throughout the week, and it's always very popular with tons of students hanging out in the falcon's roost to eat, socialize, and study with friends.
Dorm Life this does not apply to folsom lake college as it is a community college and everyone commutes to class.
Academic Rigor when people assume that community college is easy, i would encourage them to take a class at folsom lake college. the professors really push you and while they want you to do well in class, they don't hand you the answers on a silver platter. for some classes, exams are a big portion of your grade (as is the case with four-year universities, so it is good preparation), while other classes have more assignments.
Tips for prospective students register for classes early! i cannot stress this enough, because this campus is a very popular campus and is convenient in more ways than one. parking is usually not an issue, but plan to arrive at least 45 minutes to an hour before class during the first two weeks of school. after that, the traffic starts to die down and you can still manage to get parking even half an hour before class.
In three sentences not only is the campus extremely clean and the professors helpful and intelligent, but the students here actually want to learn! the diversity in age among the students is actually really refreshing, because with age comes a different perspective on each subject. and the location is wonderful, since the school is on a hill of its own, and it offers a wonderful view of the city of folsom.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck less than $40 a unit and books are much cheaper since they are for undergrad classes. you can go through two semesters on less than $1,000. really great way to save money.
What to do for fun there aren't many clubs on campus, but there are a lot of clubs in the district to look at.
Food and Dining many choices in the roost. there's wraps and sandwiches, chicken and burgers, pizza, stir-fries, and some prepacked meals as well.
Dorm Life no dorms available.
Academic Rigor if you get a good teacher, getting a perfect gpa is easy. it's great for padding your gpa before transferring. there are always some difficult teachers though.
Tips for prospective students register as soon as your appointment comes. the classes are very impacted and you have to stay on top of registration to get in. sometimes it's easier just to sign up for classes at a different college in the district or find classes that don't have a waitlist. always register for more classes than you will take or else you could end up with three units instead of fifteen for the semester.
In three sentences folsom lake is a beautiful college, but some driving may be necessary to get all the classes you need. there are four colleges in the district, and you may need to take classes at one of the other colleges to get classes at all. the classes are limited at flc alone and very impacted.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck some professors are really good, others make you really hate going to a community college. i have had art professors which i do not respect their work, and have no business teaching a college level course.
What to do for fun it's a community college, there really isn't much socializing.
Food and Dining i have yet to visit the cafeteria and lounge area but it looks very nice.
Dorm Life there are no dorms.
Academic Rigor i've yet to have a really difficult class, but that may change in a few weeks as i am taking trig.
Tips for prospective students sign up for classes the minute you can or you will be out of luck. it will take 30 units to be able to move up to a better registration date so don't count out taking classes you don't need. research your classes and professors on ratemyprofessor.com, some reviews are helpful, some are reviews of bitter, lazy students, however, knowledge is still knowledge.
In three sentences just like every college, there are good professors and bad ones. the campus is nice, clean, parking isn't too bad, and the campus size is easy to travel. the art professors are just okay.

Categories Comments Campus Safety i have yet to hear of any problem other than parking tickets. considering i have been here for over two years that is an outstanding record.
Clubs and Activities there is a wide variety of clubs ranging from writing to boardgames to ski and snowboard.
Great for these types of students great for students who want a more personal interaction with their professors.
What to do for fun almost every week there are activities and club meetings. the number of performances at three stages is impressive, as is the variety.
Food and Dining the food is good but there is not much selection due to the small campus size. price is also fairly standard.
Dorm Life there are no dorms at folsom lake college.
Academic Rigor most classes are challenging but not overwhelming particularly when your go to the teacher's office hours.
Tips for prospective students make sure you go to your teacher's office hours. they are there to help you. the librarians also are always available to help with research and are very good at helping with term papers.
In three sentences the counselors are knowledgeable and look for ways to help you with your education plan. most teachers have assessable office hours and wish to help their students be successful in and out of the class room. the campus also sponsors many multicultural performances which i greatly enjoy.

Categories Comments Clubs and Activities the administration of justice club is amazing!!
Bang for the buck excellent education for the community college price!
What to do for fun get involved in clubs!
Food and Dining the roost is the college's cafeteria/ bookstore. has a lot of options and is very nice.
Dorm Life do not live in a dorm!
Academic Rigor this question is hard to answer because it can vary on a type of class or professor one has. overall, professors expect the student to get their reading and assignments done. the course work for a typical class has a lot of reading for homework.
Tips for prospective students i recommend folsom lake college! it has an amazing faculty!
In three sentences folsom lake college has amazing professors that really are passionate about what they teach (at least the ones i have had). it is a beautiful campus and has a nice library. the campus has a calmness about it and is located in a nice area.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The police are great, they are always patrolling and there is usually a car going through the parking lot at any time. Plus the campus is well lit and everything is relatively close together.
Clubs and Activities There is everything from the Gay-Straight Alliance to Chess Club here at Folsom Lake. There is something for everyone, and if you can't find it in a club, you can find it in a classroom, or you can create your own club!
Bang for the buck It's definitely a lot cheaper than going straight to a UC or CSU!
What to do for fun There are tons of clubs, activities, and all sorts of fun things to participate in. There are also athletics as well.
Food and Dining I haven't had the food yet, but The Falcon's Roost is a neat looking little place.
Dorm Life There are no dorms.
Academic Rigor Overall most of my classes have been moderately to fairly difficult. There are plenty of essays to do, but it's nothing that won't go way over your head.
Tips for prospective students Do your homework! Use the Reading, Writing, and Research Center, Library, and study!
In three sentences This is an excellent starter school for transferring or students who are unsure about their major. The teachers are wonderful, and the other students are very nice.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students great for students who want to get an education but don't have the money to go to a big time college
Bang for the buck get undergrad education for a great price
What to do for fun FLC has some sports teams like golf and tennis. also they just got a new dance studio for all you dances out there.
Food and Dining Its adequate. Got a cafeteria with good hours and a cart that shuttles around with food. Nothing fancy.
Dorm Life I do not believe there is a dorm at this campus.
Academic Rigor It varies from prof to prof and from class to class. There are easier profs who won't really challenge you or harder profs where you'll get the best growth and education... It all depends on what your looking for.
Tips for prospective students Know what you are doing. This is time to find a direction in life (if you haven't already). I would recommend to meet with a counselor early and set out a path so you don't take useless classes. Also do research on the profs you are thinking about taking.
In three sentences Folsom Lake College is a good community college. It is decently sized and continually growing. All in all its a great place to start a college career.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Those who do not know what career they want to pursue or what major they want.
Bang for the buck It is much cheaper to get your GE out of the way at a community college, such as FLC, rather than at a University.
What to do for fun There is a community observatory which is cool.
Food and Dining They have some vending machines in the B building, but nothing special.
Dorm Life There are no dorms.
Academic Rigor Depends on which classes you take and how many you take.
Tips for prospective students Don't trust ratemyprofessor or anything--my favorite professor had the worst reviews. Sign up for your classes early! Make sure you stay on top of deadlines! Take advantage of financial aid!
In three sentences It is inexpensive because it is a community college. All of my professors have been very helpful and friendly. It feels more like high school than college, though.

Bang for the buck The teachers are amazing. Every teacher is paid to attend office hours and to be available to students for extra help.
What to do for fun The Falcons nest has a pool table, projector, and video games in the downstairs recreation area. There is a movie theater a mile down the street as well.
Food and Dining Multiple choices on campus and around campus.
Dorm Life No dorms.
Tips for prospective students The library isn't open on weekends but there are multiple Starbucks and Peets cafe's around the area. They are great locations for study groups!

Categories Comments Campus Safety The school itself is located in a wonderful area of Folsom with security and call boxes pervasively located throughout the campus.
Clubs and Activities I have not participated in any of the clubs or activities on the campus.
Great for these types of students Great for the student who cannot afford to go to a 4 year university. It is also great for students who are not sure of where they want to go to school yet, if they are planning on transferring. Last but not least, it is good for students who have a job, or kids, or other responsibilities and need a very efficient school system.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I have not spent much time exploring unusual locations on campus.
Bang for the buck Being a community college, tuition fees are a fraction of universities and state schools.
What to do for fun There is the Folsom Sports Complex within a mile of the college for recreational sports. Also, there is the Folsom Outlets for students who enjoy shopping. There is also Lake Natoma within the city of Folsom, which is a good temperature for swimming in the summer time.
Food and Dining I have never eaten on the campus itself, however there are a great many options surrounding the college.
Dorm Life Folsom Lake College does not have dorms that I am aware of.
Academic Rigor Teachers have usually been reasonable with the work load placed upon you. With a decent amount of studying and participation, good grades will come easy.
Tips for prospective students There are plenty of teachers to choose from for each class. I would recommend going to ratemyprofessors.com when you are enrolling, and pick teachers that might be a better fit for you.
In three sentences Folsom Lake College is, in my opinion, the best community college available to students within the Sacramento area. Folsom Lake provides a great environment with a new, growing campus that encourages you to attend school and be very studious. The teaching staff at Folsom Lake also is full of the most eager and helpful teachers that I have encountered yet.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are cops everywhere on campus and the school is in a very safe community.
Great for these types of students Students that don't know what they want to major in and just want to take classes and see what interests them. Students that want to get their GEs out of the way and then transfer to a four-year university.
Bang for the buck Classes are very cheap compared to four-year universities.
What to do for fun There is a pool table in the Falcon's Roost. Every now and then there are some events, like transfer day or club day, on campus with lots of booths and food and those are usually fun.
Food and Dining The coffee cart has a few good pastries but their coffee is terrible. The cafeteria is better but not great.
Dorm Life There are no dorms.
Academic Rigor It depends on who your teacher is. But most classes are very easy, especially if you ask the professor for help.
Tips for prospective students Dont buy your books from the bookstore. When you sign up for classes make sure you know where the class is being held. (on the main campus or at a different remote campus)
In three sentences Folsom Lake has amazing facilities. Everything is new and the campus is very clean and beautiful. The only negative is that it does not have a real college atmosphere.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Great safety. Campus police will walk you to your car late at night.

Categories Comments Campus Safety This school is in a great part of town, and there is an overabundance of Los Rios Police Officers on campus. You can always see them if you are in the parking lot, and often see them walking the campus.
Greek Life I like to think that I am not a geek, because I don't come off as one, but I am. There are geeks everywhere. Intel has a major complex a couple miles away, so there are a ton of Intel Corp. proteges at this school.
Clubs and Activities GREAT. If you want to become a community leader, discuss books, the constitution, administration of justice, or sports - this place has it all.
Great for these types of students Any. I was more concerned with non-collegiate sports when I first enrolled, and I only got a B average. After a while, I decided I wanted to try a little bit harder and I started getting straight A's. This is the second chance type of environment that this school offers.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Folsom Lake College has a brand new $50 million dollar performing arts center, Three Stages at Folsom Lake College, that offers HUGE name performances and speakers.
Bang for the buck Small classes and cheap, what more could you want? Oh yeah, the professors are amazing too. The Folsom District Attorney teaches a class, and my law professor went to Occidental and Oxford. Not bad for around $50 a unit?

Tips for prospective students At the bare minimum, do all of your work and show up every day. You absolutely must do this, because if you screw up your life due to not caring - it's on you.
In three sentences Folsom Lake College has given me a chance to become a professional student, from a B average effort to straight A's. I have learned to become a community leader, as I am the Charter President of Folsom Lake College. They are also working utilizing their skills to help me stay in college, as my father passed away a week and a half ago (this is why I am applying for scholarships).

And also you can ride the bus for free as well.
