There are a few different accounts that you will need to access once you're a student here. This part of school can get pretty confusing for some students. Try to remember the credentials to log into each of these accounts (it will make your life a LOT easier). Also, there are many misinformed people on campus that may try to give you advice. If you have questions about a class or something within your degree program, ask someone in administration or ask a professor. If they don't know the answer, they will be able to point you in the right direction.

For upcoming students allow yourself to learn as much as possible in high school. At Francis Marion your freshman year will be a good transition from high school to college. They make sure it is smooth and give you a semester to adjust to the new style of learning. Do not slack on or think that this is like high school because you will be disappointed in your results.

Make sure to consider everything you want in a college while researching them. If you want to go to a tiny school that feels very similar to college then Francis Marion is right for you. Get the point of view from people who like it and people who don't.

My tips are to watch the crowd you hang around in college. This will and could have a major effect on how much you study or get crucial sleep. Trust me, in the beginning of my first semester, I hung out more than studying and it had an horrible effect on my grades. So I stopped hanging with the people who were driving my focus away from the purpose of being at school and have succeeded every since.

Look at other schools before deciding on FMU. While the academics and price are alluring, the location and social life in Florence are rather dull. Also, don't think that just because FMU admits a lot of students, that the academics are easy. The phrase you'll most commonly hear about FMU is easy to get in, hard to get out.
