    Great for these types of students

    Anyone who wants to be a nurse FMU has a great nursing program, most of my class that is attending FMU is going into the nursing program.
    Tips for prospective students

    If you want to attend a college that is far, but not to far away from home FMU is a great school for that. Also if community bathrooms are not your thing FMU's dorm rooms and apartments all have a suite style.

    Tips for prospective students

    My tips for prospective students are not to party too must, learn how to manage your money and time, and also do not procrastinate. If you attend too many parties, whether on campus or off, it will effect your sleeping and studying time. If you decide to go out to a probate or have a night out with friends, you must be sure your assignments due the upcoming day are complete. Professors do not accept excuses. As a college student, I find it difficult to manage my money due to the fact that I am on my own when it comes to my wants and needs. If you see something you need, then get it, yet on the other hand if it's an unneccesary want, SAVE YOUR MONEY. You get little money back in text-book refunds, it is best that you save your money. Last, I want to say do no procrastinate when it comes to assignments! If you procrastinate you will not do as well as if you managed your time and studied for your exam more or worked on a term paper. Professors don't play when it comes to grading.
    Am enjoying being here

    There is always something to do at FMU, you should never be bored. Everyone that is on campus is found to be friendly, which means it is not hard to make friends. Also the Greek associations are always having events in the University Center that are free and extremely entertaining. Also if you love sports, the games are great!
    Am learning a lot

    I have learn a lot of different things at FMU, from academics to personal life. I have learned how important and high level education is and I have learned that everyone is not your friend. Education is something that no one can take away from you. With a high-level education and what old people call STREET SMARTS, you will be able to survive life in this terrible economy. Also when it comes to personal life, just because people smile in your face and act like they are your friend(s), they can turn out to be back stabbers. The same way teens and older students treat you in college is the same way people could treat you at your full time job later on in life.

    I've been told to not party too much and to always remember what I'm going to school to do. (Get an education). I'd say to everyone, it's your responsibility to get what you need done, but have fun while doing it

    The classes are all design to help us. If we need more assistance there is free tutoring services offered! I love that. Students should take advantage of this opportunity.

    Tips for prospective students

    The first thing you need to do is be familiar with the school where you are going to be attending. If there are any tours of the school, take them because those tours will benefit you. The reason why is because when you take those tours it will give you a chance to be familiar with the school. Before I came to Francis Marion, I took a tour of the campus and studied the map of campus as I got home. As I got to Francis Marion, I already knew my way around the campus because I took the college tours and studied the map to help me navigate around campus. So, it is in your best interest to take all the tours you can get. The next thing you need to do is to find all of your classes before the first day of school. The reason for that is because some professors lock their doors and they want let you in. It is very important that you arrive early to your class. The best thing to do is to come to school like the day before class starts and find your classes. By doing that you will not be lost going to class and you will not be late either. Since, I have been at Francis Marion, I have not been locked out; however there were students in my class who were locked out and marked absent for the day. When professors start teaching the lesson is to listen and take notes. But if you do not understand, then you need to get help. There is nothing wrong with asking for some help. At Francis Marion, there are a lot of people who are willing to help you. I have different tutors to help me in different subjects and I am so glad that seek for help. Because if I did not I would not be passing my classes. But, the most important factor is to ask for help and not just sit there struggling. The professors, will not come to you say do you need any help. When you are at college do not be afraid to ask questions or seek help because that is why the professors are there. After, receiving one on one help, it is twice as important to study. In my opinion, studying plays a big role in college. It is very important to study. The reason why studying is important is because you as the student will learn more. When an assignment is given, start studying the assignment as soon as you get it. Do not wait until the day before to study or the week before to study. The reason for that is because, the professors cover a lot of materials and sometimes they may not cover a particular lesson. It is up to you to go read the chapter and go over your notes time and time again. When you go to college, you are no longer in high school. So some of the studying methods you use in high school may not work when you go to college. Why I say that is because when I started at Francis Marion, I was using the same studying methods that I used in high school. But, when I got my first assignment back in one of my classes I came to realize that I have to change my methods, if I wanted to pass that course. The last thing you can do is to attend different events that take place on the college campuses. I am not saying go to everything that occurs on the campus. But, as students it is important for you to engage in something else besides having the same routine every day. When you go to these events, they can help you in so many different ways. The different ways may include expanding your horizon, having a different intake on your college life and help you with future endeavors. Some events may include: how to write a lab report, discussing how to negotiate your salary, going to a play or a movie, or career fair. When you go to these events, you will learn a lot and most importantly you meet new people in the process. So, I hope this information that I have given you has helped a little bit and I really hope that you all apply the things I have said today. Remember college is so much more different than high school, so it is up to you how start off. Like a professor say, â??if you start out right then you will end rightâ??. Thank you for your time today and I hope all of you seniors achieve your goals and good luck with the next chapter of your life. Thank You.

    campus police are the best. they interact with students and get to know them. they are always patrolling the campus to make sure everyone is ok. there are even cop boxes around campus in case of a accident .

    there are different stations so you never have to eat the same things everyday.

    the only downfall is not having a kitchen area.

    if you are looking for a small school not surrounded by city life this school is great. the campus is spacious and beautiful. classes are close to dorms, and offers plenty of extra curricular activities.

    Francis Marion University is a smaller university which makes it cost less than the other huge universities. $$$$$$ :)
    What to do for fun

    In Florence there is hardly anything to do except for partying, which I do not recommend a lot of, bowling, bars, plays and movies. On campus there are plays, movies that are popular and a building called the UC (University Commons). This is the place where you could go swimming, play pool, basketballs games are held, and other fun events.
    Food and Dining

    The food here at Francis Marion Unversity is pretty good. There are two locations that you can choose from to eat. The Cafe is the main place freshmen and Sophomores go to eat. The food there are prepared but people who know how to cook! :) Then there is the Grille, this is the place where people have meetings, just come chill with their friends, watch games or just to grab a snack.
    Dorm Life

    Dorm life at Francis Marion is not that bad. There are always something going on so that you do not have to stay in your room all of the time and more than likely the people that are in your suite become some of your closer friends.
    Academic Rigor

    Academically, FMU is a tough school if you do not try and study to your best ability. You have to be willing to learn and strive hard to be successful at Francis Marion University. If you are doing these thing and still struggling then the professors are always looking for ways to help.

    For future students that may want to come to Francis Marion University, I give you this advise. Always be true to yourself, get involved with on-campus activities, STUDY, and have fun.

    I didn't plan to attend this school, and the 309-acre campus is beautiful, but the town doesn't offer much. This school is not meant for students interested in pursuing Art, Music, or other similar degrees. Also, don't attend if you're too liberal minded and open about it - the ONLY people you'll get along with are the professors.
    Am learning a lot

    I'm a double major in Psychology and Professional Writing. I hold two jobs and have guardianship of my 3-year-old niece, and yet I still hold a 3.6 GPA. I am not challenged by my coursework and it disappoints me. I have not yet transferred simply because of my new, inherited responsibilities.

    Francis Marion University has one of the most affordable tuitions in South Carolina. There are a lot of opportunities to save money at local restaurants and stores just by presenting your Francis Marion student ID.
    What to do for fun

    Organizations host many on campus events that are really fun. There are also many attractions around Florence. Myrtle Beach is about sixty miles away, so a weekend beach getaway is also an option.
    Food and Dining

    The food and dining experiences at Francis Marion University is enjoyable. There are many varieties between the cafeteria and the other food facilities on campus.
    Dorm Life

    The dorms are really nice. I've visited other colleges, and I am proud to say that I reside on Francis Marion Campus as opposed to other campuses.
    Academic Rigor

    The student to teacher ratio is really good. The classes are not that big, so it is easier for students to receive help from teachers. In my opinion, Francis Marion is one of the best schools academically.
    Tips for prospective students

    My advice to prospective students is to STUDY! There's a saying around campus, Francis Marion is easy to get into and hard to get out of. Another tip is just to take time out to have fun.

    Francis Marion University is great for students who are passionate about their career choice. I say this because our professors who will be teaching you the materials for your career are just as passionate as you are. They enjoy teaching and pays attention to every student. No one is ever left feeling as if they do not exist. Francis Marion University is a great place to learn and become a well rounded individuals as we have tons of them who already attend! Francis Marion University is truly the place of success.

    Study, study study! It makes you feel so good to know all the answers in class and have your professor praise you for your hard work. They always notice! That is because our professors genuinely care about the students succeeding at Francis Marion University. Have a great time and enjoy the people and the beautiful campus! Your day can never be too bad when looking a the gorgeous campus flowers and bright green grass while listening to the birds sing. It truly is a campus filled with bliss.

    Francis Marion University's tuition costs are great compared to other schools! Absolutely amazing! It has the cheapest tuition cost of any other university in South Carolina. Normally I would think it costs more because I just can not believe that a place so warm and inviting with tons of greatness could be at such a price! At first I thought No way! This is a scam! But I was wrong. Francis Marion University really is just that good and at that good of a price for tuition.

    I enjoy being at Francis Marion University 100 percent of the time! There is never a moment where I want to leave. It is honestly just that amazing! Francis Marion University is filled with well rounded people, great activities, and leaders who care about the good of our campus.

    There is literally a police officer on every corner and in every building. Not to mention driving around every 5 minutes.

    Some unusual traditions are all the students will meet up at a certain place on campus and we will have sing-a-longs, freestyle battles, games.

    They have a lot of sports not to mention intramural sports. They a place to play pool, exercise room, a indoor and outdoor pool. We also have basketball and volley ball court, tennis soccer, any kind of sport you name it.

    We have a pizza and pasta place, a deli place, international foods, the soul food, and then a burger and fries place.

    The dorms are okay theres 6 buildings each with 3 floors.

    The work is only hard when you dont apply yourself.

    You have to be very committed and responsible not only that you have to manage your time wisely. If you have all this and you are a hordworking student then you are bound to achieve all your goals.

    Greek life at Francis Marion is not that great. Most organizations do not have many members compared to other schools but they are open to new members and open to the campus.

    What to do for fun

    There is always something going on at Francis Marion. Whether its on or off campus, the events are always fun. The University Programming Board offers many events every semester such as movie nights, spring fest, zumba, workshops, step-shows and many other fun activities.
    Food and Dining

    The food at Francis Marion is great. First-year students are required to purchase a meal plan that offers a variety of different choices for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They also offer brunch at noon on the weekends for students who stay on campus.
    Dorm Life

    Although the dorm life wasn't my favorite aspect of Francis Marion, i can say that i am glad i experienced it. The dorms do not have a common area, which makes it hard to socialize and do other things.
    Tips for prospective students

    To the students who are thinking about going to FMU, i would recommend staying on campus and getting involved in the many activities and organizations they offer. I would also suggest you look into the resources that are offered on campus and use them!

    The University Center has a game room with ping pong and pool tables. There's a gym students have access to pretty much all the time. There's also dozens of clubs you can get involved in and the on-campus students have get-togethers all the time.
    Food and Dining

    It's nice to have the cafeteria and The Grille as two dining options on campus. There's quite a variety so you don't get bored easily with the menu, I would have to say. It's also good that they have healthy options for those who enjoy being smart about what they eat as well.
    Dorm Life

    On-campus housing is quite nice, but of course I haven't been to every college campus to compare. I personally think FMU accomodates its students well. The residence hall and apartments are clean and well-kept.
    Academic Rigor

    Francis Marion has a good bit of difficult classes. It's true when people that it's easy to get into FMU and difficult to get out. You have to work hard in order to do well, that is for certain.

    Make sure you take the time to study. There are some classes you may not have to put in as much effort as others, but they still require work. A great way to really feel apart of FMU is to also get involved in extra curricular activities such as athletics or clubs.

Some would say it's a tough school and it is, but the professors really just try to get to you to do your best and work your minds to think outside the box.     Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

    There is a graveyard on campus. During construction a team of workers came across an unmarked slave burial site. This graveyard is along the path from the University Center to the Dining Hall and constantly reminds you of the history all around.

    The Education that a student receives at Francis Marion University compared to the tuition has to be one of the best in the region. In state students tuition is around $15,000 for a top quality education.
    What to do for fun

    There are a plethora of organizations to join. A student could also spend time cheering on the Patriots at one of our many sporting events.

    The cafeteria food is good, but for the good stuff students should check out the Grille on campus.

    The student/dorm life at Francis Marion University could not be any better. There are so many great people and great activities to take part in.

    A very high percentage of professors have there doctorates. This equates to a higher quality of learning in the classroom.

    Prospective students should take no time diving in to school activities. In a smaller university, the more involved a student is, the more close knit the groups are. It would also be wise to take advantage of the smart professors at Francis Marion University by paying attention and studying hard.

    Campus Safety

    Campus security has always come through for me, especially when I have lost my phone or locked my keys in my car. Throughout the campus there are also emergency phones, which always makes me feel safe walking around at night.
    Clubs and Activities

    There are many clubs and activities to participate in, which include ones with different sports teams and a club for whatever major you are interested in. The Creative Elite is one that I participate in through the fine arts department.
    Great for these types of students

    It is great for any student that is fervent in any area of pursuing a degree and future.

    Every spring the Fine Arts department hold an Arts Alive festival. This is usually packed with people and spreads throughout the campus and includes cultural displays, and all sorts of arts and activities, including the chalk drawing competition that I always participate in.
    Bang for the buck

    I must say that the diversity of college students I have encountered and come to know at Francis Marion cannot possibly compare to other Universities. It is hard to explain the atmosphere, but one thing I must say is that the students have made it the most interesting experience for me.
    What to do for fun

    For fun I love to bike around campus, because it is a beautiful facility and if you are into physical activities as am I, you will also enjoy the outdoor and indoor pool, basketball courts and volleyball court.
    Food and Dining

    I have only eaten in the cafeteria once, but the on campus grill has excellent food!
    Dorm Life

    I have lived in the old college dorms for 3 semesters and while I enjoy them I especially look forward to gettting to live in the new honors dorms this coming semester.
    Academic Rigor

    For the most part the professors as well as the grading scale is strict, which meets my personal expectations for myself.
    Tips for prospective students

    Don't come to Francis Marion expecting to party and play around. Take it seriously and value everything that you learn and if you strive to do your best, I promise you will succeed.

    Francis Marion is a college that meets my expectations on more than an academic level. My University has an entire building for the Fine Arts, which is where half of my life is spent on campus. The Professors I have had for my courses are also another reason I love my college, they are strict and for the most part expect a lot from their students.

    There are on-site officers that are always on duty on campus, and there are little help boxes located all around campus incase of an emergency or if you get lost.

    There is a wide variety of sororities and fraternities to chose from if you are interested in Greek Life.

    Great for these types of students

    FMU is a great school for anyone, as long as you're willing to put effort into your school work. A lot of the students here are majoring in Nursing or some science field, or an art, english or math. If you like a challenge, then this school is perfect for you.

    During the Spring, the campus always holds an art/cultural festival with loads of art related things and different foods from many different cultures all around the campus. It's a great event for all ages. They also do a lot of support type activities for different sorts of causes.

    You definitely get your moneys worth of everything here.
    What to do for fun

    There is ALWAYS something going on on campus. There are sports related things that happen all the time, and there are always some type of weekend event that goes on every weekend. There is Greek Life for those interested in joining sororities or fraternities. And there are always some type of off-campus fun going on that you can sign up for if you look for the right fliers around campus.
    Food and Dining

    I haven't eaten on campus except for during orientation and the food was great and they had a wide variety to chose from in the cafeteria. They also have an on-site type of restaurant, I suppose you could call it, that has great food, but it's very pricey.
    Dorm Life

    I live off-campus, so I don't exactly know what the dorm life is like- but during orientation it was lovely.
    Academic Rigor

    The classes can be easy or they can be hard, it all depends on how much effort you really give and put into your work.
    Tips for prospective students

    Only apply here if you are willing to buckle down and do your work. Don't apply here if your idea of college is partying all the time because you'll be in for a rude awakening. I would say to learn how to manage your money and your time, because you'll learn that those things become very important through the semester. If you don't feel like spending a lot of money on food or supplies, I would suggest you purchase all of these things from a grocery store before you come to campus if you have no type of transportation. If you're not a morning person, don't schedule for morning classes. If you plan on working while you're in school, learn how to manage your work time with your homework time.

    FMU is rather hard educational wise compared to other universities in South Carolina, but you are getting your moneys worth when it comes to education. The professors are all very easy to talk to and worth with when it comes to any personal problems pertaining the classes. The campus is lovely and it is an all around comfortable school.

    I don't really eat on campus much. There are 2 places of dining. One is a dining hall where there is a menu for the day and the other is like a food court with the options of pizza/subs/burgers....

    dorm life is great! there are 3 different types of on campus living. 1 is just for incoming freshman and then 2 are for upperclassman. the freshman dorms include a meal plan so that you can eat on campus and the upperclassman have a choice. upperclassman dorms are apartment style.

    On campus there is a University Center which you will find the gym, rec room, game room, workout room and a pool. There is also an outside pool and basketball court. Different groups host events on campus and off campus year round. And then there's the sports and concerts.

    I enjoy FMU's food and dining. You have a choice between eating at the Dining Hall or The Grille. Each Wednesday is Chicken Wednesdays. And everyday there are plenty of food choices to chose from.

    The dorm life at FMU is fun and exciting. Instead of one hall sharing a bathroom there is 4 people per bathroom. You have internet access in your dorm. There is always activities going on within the dorms.

    It's a lot of things you can do for fun here on FMU campus. There are parties every week on Thursday, but there not on campus. Also they have many activities for the students to participate in and associations students can even join.l

    The dining hall is always clean no matter what. The food is fair at times, but majority of the time its delicious. Everyone on campus go crazy on Wednesday's because that's chicken day.

    The dorm life is very different. Not as roomy, but its like your own house. Always make sure its clean because they have inspections. Also, its very quiet and you can have a lot of studying time to yourself.

    Believe me when I tell you this. There is always a FMU Police car somewhere around, and not there to harass or anything, but simply there to protect and serve the communtity here.
    Greek Life

    Not really big on the Greek Life. Do not get me wrong they are many organizations on campus, but you rarely hear or see them out showing off.
    Clubs and Activities

    So many great clubs at Francis Marion University with new ones coming along all the time. They are very diverse and learned recently that we just reenacted the Judicial Branch of the Student Government. They also just charter a Lions Club student chapter here which is rare in colleges in South Carolina.
    Great for these types of students

    The best students at Francis Marion would have to be someone who is willing to work just a little harder to get that degree. A student who finds time to go visit that professor that you are barely getting by in, because you know and feel that they will do whatever they can to help you along.

    There are some very old antique buildings around campus, considering most of the buildings have been built over due to the school being so old. Some geographic hills on the land where as Francis Marion land was once a rice field which I think is amazing.

    Yes here at Francis Marion University you will get a good idea that you money is going to the right places. To the new facilites being built around campus to the great professors, besides every once in a while. The campus is kept clean and someone always around to assist you.

    I really do not do anything for fun. I work part time so I can afford the small things around campus. That's why I'm up late looking for some scholarship money.

    I been to the cafe a few times in my times here at Francis Marion. The cafe is great with alot of varieties. However that's only during dinner. The rest of the times it just the normal. Clean and kept nice is a plus about it.

    I never stayed on campus but I have a lot of friends and classmates that do. From them and what I saw the campus is pretty normal. There's not a lot of trouble because it so close to the school. Recently add a new louge room that's fantastic and free to occupany filling out a application to use it.

    Again I say, Francis Marion is not a school which lets you by the professors here challenge you and make sure that you are learning, but I feel good about that, because it lets me see that the professor care, or either attempt to.

    When coming into Francis Marion University, get to know a lot of the students in the Student Government. These can be some of the most helpful people on campus and can usually tell you a lot about the things to help succeed in the school.

Though commonly known as being a tough college, Francis Marion to me is more of an academic challege.     FMU has clubs and activities for everyone. Whatever your interest there is something for you. One of my favorites is BCM. It is a great activity for young people who want to keep their spiritiual connection while you are away from home. You indulge in delicious food, awesome studies and wonderful fellowship.

    FMU is great for students who are serious about their academics and want to be a part of a campus with a family atmosphere. FMU exudes Southern hospitality.

    There are a lot of things to do for fun. The game room is open late and you can shoot pool, watch TV, play games, etc. If you like sports the gym is opened for basketball and there are intermural sports. BCM is great for fellow-shipping and keeping your spiritual connection open.

    The dining experience is awesome. The Cafe has a variety of delicious meals (almost like mom's), and the hours fit well with class schedules. Just in case you miss a meal at the Cafe or want something later, the Grille is open with some great food.
    Dorm Life

    Dorm life is great. The RA's are very helpful when it comes to getting settled. There are people all around so it is easy to make friends and set up study groups.
    Academic Rigor

    The classes are difficult, but you can bet you are getting what you need to succeed. There are plenty of resources you can utilize if things become difficult. Remember professors are there to help you, so ask for help before you become overwhelmed.

    If you are planning to stay on campus sign up for housing early, especially if you have a friend you want to room with. Everything may seem a little intimidating when you first arrive but it does not take long to adjust because everyone is helpful. Also, don't be afraid to ask questions if there is something you need to know.

    I feel very safe on campus. There are emergency buttons stationed in the parking lots and lots of lighting. The campus police are centrally located and often patrol the campus.

    I am not very sure about Greek Life on campus. There are no special housing or buildings for members. There are sororities and fraternities.

    There are quite a few clubs on campus. I go straight home from school so I personally do not join any. There are always club-sponsored events posted like movie nights, dances, fashion shows, scavenger hunts, etc.

    This school is great for students who are looking for a small town atmosphere in South Carolina. Every building is within walking distance from every other building, including dorms. Also, it is wonderful for students who actually care about graduating.

    There are a few unusual locations. Along a pathway in the woods from the dorm to class buildings there is a small, run down graveyard. There is also a tree that goes along with the Legend of the Pregnant Tree.

    I love Francis Marion University, its perfect for me. I love the small school atmosphere.

    For fun, check out the University Center. There's pool, ping pong, weights, etc to entertain yourself with. Other than events on campus, the local city is pretty boring.

    There are a few options when it comes to dining. The caf has really good food, but unless your living in the dorms and already paying for it, it is pretty expensive. There is also the Grille, which is like an on-campus restaurant. It is very, very expensive and usually not worth the long lines.

    As a freshman, I hated the dorms. You fill out a survey to help pick your room/dorm mates, but really its all random. The dorms are very loud, have lousy internet, and aren't regulated at all.
    Academic Rigor

    The school has high standards, each of the majors offered are very well represented. You will not leave this school without the knowledge of how to do the work in your desired field. The classes are very engaging depending on the level of the professor.
    Tips for prospective students

    The most important thing is to develop a relationship with your advisor. If you're lucky, a good advisor will help you plan and track your progress towards graduation. Also, if there is ever any issues regarding financial aid, definitely harass the financial aid office.

    The campus has 3 cafeteria and eating area for students. All meals are included in the tuition. All freshman must have 19 meals a week mandatory.
    Dorm Life

    There are suite dorms that hold 4 students per room. All students have a resident assistant. All Freshman must meet the day they arrive to the dorm to get to know their roommate.
    Academic Rigor

    In order to get into Francis Marion you have to have a GPA of 3.0. You must have a 17 or better on the ACT. 48 percent of students graduate from the School.
    Tips for prospective students

    It is the best college for nursing. Francis Marion has a great campus location. Francis has a 20-25 student to professor ratio.
