Great for these types of students

Students who are open-minded and determined are the ones who should look into Fresno City College. The ones who are motivated to taking care of their classes, getting their GED classes out of the way, and staying on track are the ones who will make it out of Fresno City College. Very different individuals attend Fresno City, and the age range is very wide. Just being in an atmosphere that's out of your element can make a student uncomfortable. But if you're diversed yourself, and have no problem to being exposed to different ethnicities and urban areas, Fresno City College would work for you.

    Tips for prospective students

Students who can't seem to decide exaclty where they want to go, I favor in Fresno City. However, class registration has become very competitive. Once you've passed the registration stress the rest is up to you and how focus you stick to your plan to get in and get out. Fresno City is not a resting ground, it's a detour that'll get you suited up to continue on to either a CSU or UC. Be aware of your evironment and priorities. Consistently check in with a counselor to be sure all your classes are what you need and that you're on track.

    Bang for the buck

Nowadays people are groveling and fighting just to get at least two classes per semester. It's alternate route to take for a decent education without having to pay thousands of dollars for a four year institute. Money has become the attention grabber and it doesn't seem to be getting much better. Hoping to take some of the financial slack off of my parents, I followed in my sister's footsteps and plan on doing the two years and Fresno City then transfer to a four year university. Basically my parents will be paying for 2 students for the price of one student going straight to a university for the four years.

    Am enjoying being here

I'm not going to lie, but Fresno City was the least place I wanted to be. However, I have became accutomed to it and have a mindset to stay focus. I'm also a part of the women's soccer team at Fresno City, so I'm familiar with other students who are invovled in athletics and those in the honors program. The one thing that Fresno City has to offer is diversity. It's an atmosphere filled with many people you probably would never see yourself next to, but sometimes it's good to be exposed to things you may not be use to.

    Am learning a lot

I'm learning quite a lot from most of my classes. Being a part of the Leon S. Peter's honors program I'm equipped with some of the best professors. The work is a lot of material but we get through a lot of it by class discussions. I'm enrolled in Philosophy Honors and English Honors. Both classes do ask a lot of writing from you, but the writing causes for me to critically think about what it is I need to write about. Whether it's a philosophical view of John Locke, or a writing a position paper on Immigration.

    Campus Safety

There is a strong presence of the district police. The Campus is well lit and there is a plentiful amount of people on campus even when dark.

    Greek Life

There are no Greek Frats or Sor. at City College

    Clubs and Activities

Fresno City College has a long list of clubs, you will most definitively find one that suits you. You can find a list of these clubs on the Fresno city college website.

Great for these types of students

Students wanting to attend a four year university but not wanting to tackle all those expenses for the four/five years they attend that university. Also great for those wishing to attend a UC with guarantee transfer admission.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

By the Student Lounge you will find an Arcade with pool tables and arcade games

    Bang for the buck

A community college for your general ed or transfer AA is the way to go. Fresno City is truly affordable, with tuition fee waivers. FASFA and CAL grant will always end up in your pocket due the affordability of Fresno City.

    What to do for fun

City college has lots of on campus activities. There are clubs. Vendor malls. Free Ram burger day. Many campus event and free workshops. Even an arcade! The possibilities off campus are endless, located in such a large city.

    Food and Dining

Fresno city college has a decent cafe, with cooks to make you a fresh and custom breakfast or lunch.

    Dorm Life

    City College has no dorms.

    Academic Rigor

It all depends on your professors. There teaching styles will varies. I recommend using ratemyprofessor.com to chose your professors. There are many professors at City college. Choosing the one that teaching style best meet your learning need will be made easier with the use of this website.

    Tips for prospective students

Parking is a mess at city college you have to get to campus with an hour to spare or park at the stadium parking. The stadium parking is the farthest away, but never gets full like the others. Just make sure when using this parking lot to be here 15 minutes before your class, because you will spend 10 of those minutes walking to campus. Take advantage of this parking lot and never have worry about the parking nightmare on campus. Due to the higher number of students at this college, getting your classes can be a real challenge. I recommend enrolling at Midnight before the first day for registration for best chances. The only two other ways to get your classes is to play a sport, or get accepted into EOPS which is a program at FCC. If you meet the requirements for FCC apply for the program, if accepted you'll get priority registration, even before all the athletes do. You will be guarantee any class, any time of day and any teacher with priority registration.

    In three sentences

Fresno City College is the 2nd oldest community College. Fresno City is a great place to get your general education and transfer AA for those planning to attend a CSU or UC. It is also very economical to do two years at Fresno city as appose to all your years at the university you plan to attend.

Great for these types of students

Students who are all for taking small steps to success! Wise students who want to save money. People who are having trouble juggling work, a family and money. The college is suitable for everyone!

    Tips for prospective students

You're going to save a lot of time and stress from applying to Fresno City College. So use that saved time and apply for scholarships! I truly regret not spending my senior year in high school applying for grants and scholarships. Ask around who are the best professors to take: at least somebody in your class will tell you who to take and who not to take. Students share wonderful tips! Over 40,000 students are enrolled, so fight for a way to get priority registration, otherwise it'll be hard to get in your classes. I volunteered to take notes for students in my class and that gave my priority registration. You can sign up for the Honors program, as well.

    Bang for the buck

Fresno City College is significantly cheaper than surrounding schools. So yes, I feel as if I am getting the best bank for my buck. The school also provides a lot of students with financial aid. However, I wish they had more opportunities to give money to students based on their persona, not solely on their financial needs. The effect of the California budget cuts are evident. For example, classrooms need to be updated. However, most of the staff do well with what they have.

    Am enjoying being here

Fresno City College is perhaps one of the most diverse campuses. I've met parents, students who are married, students who come from a wealthy or a humble background and students of all ages. I've met a lot of kind people. I admire how they take the time to ask how everybody is doing. The professors' enthusiasm is enjoyable and I feel comfortable enough to ask questions. I had a huge problem with this in high school. One negative thing, however, is that a large amount of people don't appreciate their education there. They feel as if it's an obligation to go to college and can be heard complaining a lot. This is one little thing that bothers me.

    Am learning a lot

Most of my professors are devoted to their classes. They are not restrained from the pressure to teach California standardized exams or the No Child Left Behind exam. Instead they are able to be creative and think outside the box. They create new and exciting ways to teach a topic. My classes are not based on a text book, but on the personal experiences of students and teachers. College should be a time to learn about yourself and what you should expect in life and this is what I've learned so far! My professors have successfully triggered my interests in new fields of study!

Great for these types of students

Great for students who do not know what direction they want to go with their education. It is a cheap alternative to spending years and a LOT of money at a university with no idea of where you want to go in life. Also great for student athletes who would like to continue their athletic careers through college.

    Tips for prospective students

Be prepared for a high school like atmosphere in the classroom. It is way easy and is taught a lot like a high school only you aren't required to go to class. However, most teachers take role on a daily basis and use attendance as participation points on a final grade. Just go to class. It is very tempting to skip out, but don't lower your grade because you didn't show up. Also, make sure you have in mind where you would like to transfer and make sure your classes are transferable.

    Bang for the buck

Super cheap and I finished my AA in less than 2 years.

    Did enjoy being here

I enjoyed being there for the simple fact that I was involved in athletics, the volleyball team to be exact. There are a lot of people who don't care to be in school so don't get sucked into that crowd.

    Did learn a lot

I learned a fair amount of information. Although the classes weren't challenging for me, I did leave there a lot more knowledgeable than before I got there.

    Campus Safety

There are lots of friendly campus police officers around all the time. They oftentimes give warnings rather than tickets, which is a very nice gesture towards poor college students! If there is ever any kind of problem on campus, the campus police are there within seconds, and no one is ever in any kind of danger. It's a very comfortable campus.

    Greek Life

There are no sororities or fraternities on Fresno City College's campus. It is a community college. However, there are Greek Honors Societies and groups that study certain topics throughout the year, in conjunction with activities with other members from other colleges.

    Clubs and Activities

There are lots of clubs on campus for a variety of groups. From people interested in music, to card games, to ethnic foods, and designing their own fashion items, the campus offers something for everyone. The clubs participate in activities throughout the community, offering the members a chance to further broaden their circle of acquaintances, and build connections with other student of shared interests.

Great for these types of students

For a student that loves learning through experience as much as learning from a teacher, Fresno City College is a great choice. The campus offers so many great opportunities for travel, performance, artistic expression, and simply learning through immersion, being surrounded by so many people with such a variety of ideas and experiences. It continuously rounds and opens the minds of the students that attend.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The Library is a vast brick building, with columns and a high ceiling-ed hall. There are classrooms upstairs, and a beautiful long room, lined with books upon books, and long wooden tables at which students quietly study. It gives an old-fashioned school feel to an otherwise urban environment. Also, every year the campus has Asian Fest, a beautiful day of parades and booths, foods and dancing, put on by the Asian community of Fresno. It is definitely worth coming out for.

    Bang for the buck

There are many scholarships and financial waivers available, even for middle class students. But even without the financial assistance, it is not a particularly pricey school at which to study. The opportunities, activities, class diversity, and quality of education all make it a fantastic educational deal.

    What to do for fun

    - Explore the area. There is so much to do around Fresno City College. There are a lot of on-campus activities too, so it's worth picking up the school newspaper, The Rampage, to see what's comping up soon. - Photography and art students particularly love the campus because of the views and subject matter it offers them. There are many beautiful antique buildings, like the Old Administration Building, recently restored, and the big red brick Library. Many of the trees are upwards of 100 years old.

    Food and Dining

Fresno City has a really great catering company that sets up booths and stands around the campus for quick and easy access to snacks between classes. There is also a café, and a dining hall on campus near the student lounge that offer the usual pizza and taquitos, but also healthier choices like fresh fruit, freshly made salads and juice.

    Academic Rigor

I was in the Honors Program at Fresno City College, and found those classes to be more challenging than the regular classes, as they should be. However, the regular classes were demanding as well. The teachers are very involved with each student, and you will have to work hard to earn a passing grade. It ensures you learn the material backwards and forwards.

    Tips for prospective students

    - Be open-minded. Because Fresno City College is a community college, and a public institution, there are lots of different types of people all around. If you can get out of your comfort zone, and get your foot in the door with a lot of different groups, the experiences that open up are endless. - Go to class! This is a general tip for every college or school you'll ever go to, but because of the number of students that need to get into classes at FCC, professors have no qualms about dropping a student from a class, even five or six weeks into the semester! You have to earn your seat in a class, and want to be there to learn. - Get involved in the clubs on campus. There is one for almost every interest, skill, or ethnic group. They're easy to check out at the Club Days, and will give you a fantastic extracurricular college experience. - Explore the area around the college! FCC is located right in the middle of Fresno's famous Tower District. There are locally owned restaurants and coffee shops sprinkled amid local art galleries and retro clothing stores.

    In three sentences

    1. Fresno City College is a beautiful, old fashioned campus, with a diverse student population, located right in the heart of Fresno's historic Tower District. 2. Teachers are involved and invested in the success of their students, and in my experience, have been easily accessible for any issue or questions a student might have. 3. There are constantly activities, festivals, seminars, and rummage sales going on at the campus, making it a fantastic place to just spend time sitting and soaking in the cultural and educational goings-on.

The campus offers sports, clubs and other extracurricular activities that are available for students.

    Food and Dining

There is plenty of food on campus. The bad thing about it is that we must pay for it, but then again we get a good quality amount of food for the price that we are paying.

    Campus Safety

Campus security make their rounds frequently and there are call boxes dispersed around campus. Most of the campus is fairly well lit and the library and Pacific Cafe stay open pretty late as safe places to be if you find yourself on campus at night. Be sure to be aware of your person at all times and don't leave valuables in your vehicle or unattended.

    Greek Life

There is not really much of a Greek Life. There are some Greek Letter clubs and organizations to join but, not really full-fledged sororities or fraternities.

    Clubs and Activities

FCC offers a wide variety of clubs and campus organizations. From the Associated Student Government to the Japanese Anime(Animation) Club, you will either find something that peaks your interest, or be guided to a club packet to create your own. There are often campus events and festivals taking place including Club Rush, International Festivals, and much more.

Great for these types of students

Students that are trying to decide what to do with their career and their life will feel at home here. If you want to be introduced to the many cultures of the world, this is an excellent environment in which to immerse yourself. If you can stay focused, Fresno City College will help you develop a true love for learning.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

If you visit Fresno City College, make sure the check out the small Japanese garden behind the study hall center. It is truly a hidden treasure that not even many student know about.

    Bang for the buck

Overall, Fresno City College is great place to get liberal arts course work out of the way and an affordable way to get well-rounded. Don't expect too much over the top, state-of-the-art offerings but, do look forward to a taste of nearly everything.

    What to do for fun

There are a lot of activities on campus including sports, clubs, events, film viewings, and speaker forums. There is almost always something going on on-campus and the campus calendar the College Activities office offers can be a handy way to keep up with it all.

    Food and Dining

There are a few options to dine on-campus but, they are somewhat pricey and limited. The campus cafe, TAHER offers cooked meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They have carts around campus and they are good at what they do but, they have prices to match and tend to not stay open long enough if you choose to attend evening and night classes. The Pacific Cafe (formerly known as Yoshino's) across from the cafeteria building that houses TAHER has a wider variety of options with a focus on Japanese/Asian offerings and can be somewhat more affordable depending on what you choose. There are also some fast-food restaurants and cafes within a block of the campus.

    Dorm Life

There are no dorms. The campus College Activities office offers guides of local rooms, apartments, and houses to rent but, there is no on-campus housing.

    Academic Rigor

The challenge level of courses at Fresno City College vary widely from very easy to more challenging courses such as Honors Program classes. Be prepared to spend a lot of time on homework and study if you are ambitious with your studies. The challenge level that you face will be up to you and the education path that you have chosen. FCC does, however, tend to be somewhat outdated in some of its offerings, so be sure to check into the curriculum of your course of study, know what you are looking for, and be sure that they offer it, before jumping into a major.

    Tips for prospective students

Be prepared to stay focused. With such a wide range of things to see, do, and study on campus, it is very easy to get side-tracked. Decide how you want to approach your education and how you want to work toward your goals and stick with it. Make sure to see a counselor to get an education plan upfront to really help you to stay on track.

    In three sentences

Fresno City College is the first community college in California. FCC has a diverse student population and atmosphere. FCC offers a wide variety of subjects to study.

    Campus Safety

Bike thefts are a major issue on campus. There is campus police that patrols the area at random times. There are many cars that do not have the semester parking pass. They take up space for those who really need the parking. It is an issue that needs more attention. There are days where one can go without displaying the parking permit and one will not receive a ticket. In other words, there needs to be more patrolling and ticket-serving as there are those who really need parking.

    Food and Dining

Although there is a school cafe, the menu list is relatively small. Waiting times and organization can get really out of hand during the first few weeks of instruction.

    Dorm Life

    Dorm Life not applicable.

    Academic Rigor

Depending on your major and daily schedule, class difficulty and rigor will be dependent. However, for the most part and from word of mouth, most class exams will consist of multiple choice, true and false, and short answer. Keep in mind, however, that it will depend on many factors such as what you define as rigorous and your academic level.

    Tips for prospective students

Study and really put the effort into your courses. It is school, after all. If necessary, have a weekly schedule to manage your time wisely and have an agenda to keep track of deadlines and important dates. Look into Transfer Day during the month of September. Use Assist.ORG and Ratemyprofessor.com to make the best out of your semester. Accept every chance that is offered for PRIORITY registration. You will have the best selection of classes and schedules. Classes fill up fast so this is your chance. If you really want to save money on books, use CRAIGSLIST.ORG and search in the Books category. Most of the time, you find the book(s) for your class. No waiting needed and you can resell them instead of just returning them when you rent them. So use Craigslist, Craigslist, Craigslist!

    In three sentences

For a 100-year old community college, it is a very forestry and beautiful school. The student environment is friendly, one feels welcomed, and staff is friendly. The location is convenient and near major avenues and a highway.

It's great for students of all ages, of every religious and political background--diversity is key @ Fresno City College

    Tips for prospective students

As someone who has been employed at the college, and who is also a student I will say this: 1) Do not steal the textbooks or supplies from our bookstore, it only causes the prices to be hiked up further. 2)Do not text in class. 3) Pay attention in class, and take your studies seriously. I'm not saying don't have any kind of life, just curtail how much fun you have while you are attending. Trust me, you don't want to have to return 15 years later like I did.

    Bang for the buck

The classes definitely, the books and supplies on the other hand...a little on the expensive side for me.

    Am enjoying being here

I do enjoy being a student here--there have been a lot of changes on campus, including the location of the administration building. There are plenty of clubs to join that cover every interest, culture, political leanings, etc.

    Am learning a lot

I have been enjoying all of my classes, even the boring ones (I am not a fan of math, but I have enjoyed my instructors in the different levels). The instructors I have had there have all been very helpful, and understanding of students' difficulties in juggling home, work, family and school.

Never have had a problem on campus.

    Clubs and Activities

Lots of clubs but I am not interested in extracurricular activities at my age.

Great for these types of students

Great for either students who have no idea what they want to do but want to get their GE out of the way while deciding or for students who know what they want and want a cheaper alternative to four year universities for the first two years of school.

    Bang for the buck

Great when compared to four year universities. Only $48 a unit.

    What to do for fun

There are campus activities but since I am a student who attends at night, I don't know much about them.

    Food and Dining

Only one restaurant on campus. Not the best food but pretty cheap. Okay if you have to but you would be better off at one of the local fast food establishments.

    Dorm Life

    No dorms on campus.

    Tips for prospective students

Register for classes early. There is not much availability for general education but if teachers know you are serious about your perspective academic goals they work rather well with you.

    In three sentences

overcrowded. Good for smaller programs that are directed into profession. Decent staff.

    What to do for fun

    Food and Dining

there are not a whole lot of options on campus, but there are plenty of places in the area to eat.

    Academic Rigor

classes are not all that demanding, but that depends on the teacher.

    Tips for prospective students

plan ahead as it pertains to parking. If you need to speak with a counselor make sure you have a few hrs to spare.

    Campus Safety

Fresno City College, takes safety seriously. They have there own campus police who are visible on campus. If you have a night class and request a escort then they can arrange to have someone meet you and walk you to your car. They are awesome!

    Greek Life

Yes, as I mentioned in Clubs and Activities, they do have an active Greek Life so you don't have to feel like you are missing out on the University opportunity. It is a wonderful way to meet people and have a great time with events and activities.

    Clubs and Activities

If you want a club, you can find it a Fresno City College and if it doesn't exist then there is room to be a pioneer on campus and make a club that meets your needs. I was surprised to hear that they actually have sorority and fraternities. This is almost unheard of at other community colleges. Need I say more.

Great for these types of students

For students who may still searching for what they want to do when they grow up, this is wonderful environment. Most faculty have an open door policy and are more than eager to provide advice or give you some connections of the right people to talk to. This is very unique, most college professors are not as open at other colleges/universities.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

One of my favorite locations is the beautiful library. The staff are very knowledgeable and helpful. Plus just look up and you can see these wonderful artistic ceilings. It makes you feel like you are studying in a tradition steeped university such as Oxford or Cambridge but for a tenth of the price.

    Bang for the buck

Fresno City College is the oldest of the Community Colleges and has a wonderful park-like setting with lots of trees, beautiful old buildings and charm. It is a very diverse campus with young to older students, from all socio-economic classes from several countries who practice diverse religious, political beliefs. In a way you are getting an education abroad bought home. What a great opportunity to expand your own knowledge about other cultures and learn an appreciation of what we have to be thankful for in America.

    What to do for fun

Fresno City College has a very active student life component. On almost any given weekend you will find performances by the performing arts or music department and the best thing is that most of these are free or at a discounted price for students.

    Food and Dining

I have eaten at both the cafeteria as well as the cafe located outside the bookstore and all the food is good. Sometimes a few items are a bit pricey but you are sure to find something good in your price range.

    Dorm Life

Fresno City College is a commuter college so it does not have dorms.

    Academic Rigor

Fresno City College professors are top notch. Most of them have real jobs outside the college so they bring a new and broader meaning to what you are studying in the textbooks. I would give them an A+.

    Tips for prospective students

Get to know the Academic Affairs side of education. For example, the counselors can be invaluable. They have both academic counselors to help with your academic planning. Fresno City College is one of the few Community Colleges to have personal counselors as well. These counselors are all Master-level and doctoral level trained therapists. They are helpful in helping you navigate a stressful time of your life like going to college, relationships issues, and much more.

    In three sentences

I would rate academic rigor as a 4+, I had a very good experience with my faculty members. Every now and then you may have one that is more into research or other activities than teaching but this is the exception. As for dorm life, Fresno City College does not have dorms but this does not mean it lacks a sense of unity among students. Their are more than enough opportunities to meet others in various activities and fun events the campus sponsors. They even have a Greek Life. I would rate this a 5/5. As for food and dining, it is easily accessible, quick and most college student can afford it, so I would rate it a 4/5.

Don't leave things in your cars! Car theft is very high on campus and it's not uncommon to hear someone in your class tell the professor that their books were stolen out of their car.

Great for these types of students

Night students will enjoy the wide variety of classes available. Those are the easiest classes to get into.

    What to do for fun

Go to Tower! The Tower District down the street is your best bet for fun stuff. There's a tea house called Teazers that is the best! There's also a Starbucks, Spinners Records and a ton of great bars/restaurants.

    Food and Dining

The cafe on campus is actually really good. It's owned by a local restaurant. The prices aren't that great, but it is good food.

    Dorm Life

I don't believe that there are dorms available here.

    Academic Rigor

The classes are not challenging but they are difficult because there isn't much class involvement. Try to take classes where you can work alone if possible. My favorite classes here were the ones I took online.

    Tips for prospective students

Try to register early or you will not get into classes. Don't plan on crashing classes due to new policies within the school there will be no adds.

    In three sentences

The teachers are terrible and unsupportive. The classes, campus and parking lot is crowded. Budget cuts have made it impossible to enroll for the necessary classes to finish my degree.

If you just come to class on time you will increase your chances of passing the class more. Also i would advise that new students get envolved if you are envolved with college the more likely you are to be motivated to go to school.

    In three sentences

Fresno city college has a very organized way about helping their students prepare for life outside of college. The school also has unique cultural diversity which makes the campus one ofthe best their is. The college also treats their athlets and musicians very well as far as making sure they are ready for the next level.

    Clubs and Activities

There are various clubs one can join which is made easy by the once a semester club rushes that take place in the quad area of the school.

Great for these types of students

Ideal for students unsure of their major or where they want to ago as well as those who are cost conscious. Also good if you are unsure if you are emotionally and mentally ready to leave all you know beyond to go away for school if you are a Fresno resident.

    Bang for the buck

Most cost effective option if you want to save money for college. You can get all of your general education as well as many of your classes for your major completed for the fraction of a price.

    What to do for fun

Not much on campus for recreation however the campus isn't too far from the Tower District in Fresno which is filled with various local eateries and shops.

    Food and Dining

There is a cafeteria as well as a small cafe.

    Dorm Life

It is a community college so it is nonexistent.

    Academic Rigor

Some courses are difficult while others are a breeze, it just depends on which classes you need to take. On average even the harder courses offered are still easier at the school rather than taking them at a CSU or UC.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved with the various programs that are more focused for smaller groups of students such as SSSP or the Science club that will allow for more one on one time with people who know how the transfer system works.

    In three sentences

It is the perfect environment for students unsure of their desired major. Allows one to be introduced to the rigorous curriculum colleges offer without as much stress and at a slower pace. Will give the feel as a step up from high school but not so much so that it gives a real college experience.

It is not too expensive to attend FCC. If you obtain grants or scholorships it is quite painless.

    What to do for fun

They have a great jazz band and music department. They have beautiful dancing clubs, which is amazing. They also have good athletics, or so I am told.

    Food and Dining

They do have food. If need to eat you don't have to leave campus, which is a blessing. Its not five stars or even three, but its there if you need it.

    Dorm Life

I don't think they have one. If they did i doubt it would be that great. The school system is quite insoluable.

    Academic Rigor

The science department is tough. You have to spend every waking moment to keep up. If you want a science transfer you better quit your job and be religously devoted to FCC.

    Campus Safety

There are SCCCD police everywhere at FCC, always keeping an eye out for troublemakers. They are usually friendly and helpful, and will even jump start your car if it needs a boost. The SCCCD police office is also located on campus. However, Fresno City is in the middle of a somewhat bad neighborhood, so while violence is often kept to a minimum, theft is forever rampant. I have been told many stories of stolen textbooks, Ipods, phones, computers, cars, etc. and have even had my hubcaps stolen, but there is a positive side. Most of the students are not bad people and believe in doing the right thing. I have also lost my laptop once and my phone three different times due to my own case of scatterbrain, and all three times have been lucky enough to have them returned to me by helpful people.

    Clubs and Activities

As I mentioned earlier, the variety of clubs on campus is astounding. there is a club rush at the beginning of each semester to introduce students and make them aware of what is happening at their campus. the teachers act as advisors, while the students usually take control of the sessions, which are scheduled all at different times throughout the week to allow for a variety of students to attend.

Great for these types of students

People who are looking for flexible class hours, like a laid-back environment, want to save money, and thrive in a diverse population will do very well at Fresno City College.

    Bang for the buck

For the amount of money you spend, although it seems to increase every semester, you really are getting a lot for a little money. There are copy machines and computers available for use all the time. The staff is usually very willing to help with students' needs, and are often students at the college themselves.

    What to do for fun

There are many, many things to do at FCC. You are almost guaranteed never to be bored. For athletes, there is a long list of sports teams that, along with the more well-known sports, includes badminton and water polo. There are clubs on campus for a whole slew of hobbies, backgrounds, and cultural interests. They are usually mentored by the professors, run by the students, often have free food, and all meet at different times so you are sure to find one that fits into your schedule. the library has an amazing, broad assortment of books, magazines, and periodicals to satisfy one's inner nerd as well. Twice every semester, there are vendor fairs, similar to farmers' markets, and there is some neat stuff to be found at a bargain. Also, events are always happening in the free speech area, such as Native American Heritage day, Hispanic Heritage day, Protests, debates, etc. The campus frequently holds talent competitions for singing, dancing, and the like. Next to the cafeteria is a game room with air hockey and arcade games as well as a student lounge filled with couches and air conditioned for quiet comfort. It is host to many lectures and presentations throughout the semester.

    Food and Dining

There are multiple food options on campus. The cafeteria is chocked full of different types of pizza, salads, sandwiches, desserts, healthy snacks, and many drink choices at somewhat reasonable prices. There is a cart at the oppostie end of campus for students who cannot make it to the cafeteria before their next class. also, next to the bookstore is the Pacific Cafe, with many different choices of asian food, as well as choices like corn dogs and hamburgers, as well as a large variety or snack foods. In addition, many places on campus sell their own snacks to profit clubs. This is often the cheapest option. There is also Wendy's, KFC, Carl's Jr., and a Taco Bell, all easily within walking distance.

    Academic Rigor

Although I really have little to compare to, Fresno City seems on par with, and sometimes superior to, the academic standards at Fresno State University. many of the teachers are careful to push their students, and not to let them slack off simply because they are at a pubic school. There is an honors program on campus that I am a member of, and the Honors classes are very challenging, without being too ridiculously difficult. They simply make you think, which is the goal of any quality education.

    Tips for prospective students

The best possible tips I can give are to come early and bring an inhaler. the parking lots at city are always full, and drivers begin to get cranky after a while, which nobody likes to deal with. So come early to claim your spot. don't worry though, it gets better once financial aid checks are distributed and students are dropped for excessive absences, etc. The smoking policy on campus is currently that it is okay to smoke as long as one is at least 20 feet from the entrance to any building, though there is no real enforcement. efforts are being made to change this relatively unhelpful regulation.

    In three sentences

In three sentences, Fresno City College cannot be described, but it is worth attending if, like me, you need a quality education on a budget. The teachers that I have been able to work with, with one exception, all want the best for their students, and do not try and cheat you simply because you are a city college student and not attending some big university. The environment is not the classiest, but it's not meant to be a social hotspot, it's there to help your career.

I've never experienced or heard of any problems. There are campus police officers patrolling around throughout the day. Fairly safe given where the school is located.

Great for these types of students

FCC is great for students that want to get most if not all of their general ed done while looking for a campus to transfer to. Being part of the SCCCD, FCC students have priority registration at CSU's throughout the state. So, go here if you need to save money before you transfer to a big university.

    Bang for the buck

Absolutely a great bang for buck even without financial aid. Units are fairly low in price and a lot of the books required for classes can be found used online for pennies on the dollar. For about two thousand dollars a student can finish two years of school here if you just factor in tuition & books.

    What to do for fun

There are always indie movies being shown as well as concerts and plays. You can actually kill a lot of time on campus.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria is alright with several vending machines in and around the campus. Fast food is within walking distance.

    Dorm Life

There is no dorm life at Fresno City College.

    Academic Rigor

Depending on the classes taken, you can have an easy-very complicated time at FCC.

    Tips for prospective students

If you can, go during the evening as parking is much easier to find. You see a lot of professional adults in night classes too because they are coming from work. Trudge through your first semester and you should get a better registration date the second and then on. Do your best to test out of classes.

    In three sentences

The staff is very friendly here. Classes can be hard to get your first semester. Parking is a nightmare unless you're a night student.

Because it is an community college where there are more student than professor you have to attend one on one meeting with your professor if you want good grades and feedback. Campus Safety

I have heard about many incidents on campus, including cars being broken into, but this have never happened to me, thank God! I do not particularly feel safe in the areas around campus, especially in the evening time. But also your safety really depends on who you hang out with and what types of activities you are involved in. Sometimes (not at all times) I see Campus Police circulating around campus.

    Bang for the buck

If you qualify for FAFSA, you can be pretty much set to get your classes covered and get extra money for books and personal expenses. If you do not qualify for Financial Aid, there are some scholarships offered and classes are not as expensive as at State or Pacific.

    What to do for fun

    Study.

    Food and Dining

Honestly, I don't eat on campus. If I ever need to get some food, there are few fast food places not too far from the campus (ok walking distance if you have time or don't have transportation). I think food provided on campus is not bad but it's definitely expensive. I would suggest to find other options to save money.

    Dorm Life

    There are no dorms.

    Academic Rigor

You can get pretty descent classes with some great professors. But I would suggest to RateMyProfessor.com every potential instructor you might have so you get the best possible educational opportunity. There are quite a lot of students who don't really care about their grades and not failing classes, but don't be discouraged. For every lazy, careless student there is one highly motivated student who is at FCC in order to get their GE classes done for cheaper before going on with pursuing their BA degrees. Of course, some of the professors are not so much into being passionate about teaching, but I've managed to avoid those instructors and get really good one.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't rely of counselors here. They will mess you up big time! What I suggest for figuring out what classes you need to take and when your graduation/transferring date is going to be coming up is using the Degree/Certificate Evaluation Progress Report on WebAdvisor tool (for those of you who get in, get acquainted with it as soon as possible, for your own benefit). It will show you what sections and classes you need to look at and where in College Catalog you can see your class options. Trust me, it will help you a ton!

    In three sentences

As a community-level college, Fresno City College is not the worst, but definitely not the best. You get your GE and some major classes for so much cheaper than any other school in our city, but it's hard to get into many classes these days. If you want to save money and get acquainted with college system before going to a four-year college/university and you live in Fresno, I suggest to give FCC a try, but don't get sucked in the I'm here for hanging out/chilling with people on campus thing, otherwise you will be stuck here forever with no motivation to get out. oh, and of course, as it has been mentioned, parking is pretty bad. Also, the campus is not at its cleanest state most of the time. A lot of smoking on campus territory going on.

    Campus Safety

Campus safely at fresno city college is very secure and useful. They patrol the school in car and on bike during regular and after school hours. There has not been many critical incidents since I have been attending, and I believe the campus safety has a lot to do with that.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many clubs at fresno city college, such as the Anime club, the Social work student association, and the Associated student body. Most of these clubs participate in most on campus activities and provide the students with a lot of resources. The Associated student body Is the biggest club in campus, because they are the voice of the students at campus meetings.

    Food and Dining

Fresno city college is near many places that will provide you with foods no dining. Such as Carl's jr., Taco Bell, Burger King, Wendy's, and they are all in walking distance. They also have a cafeteria and a cafe where students purchase meals as well. Lastly, if you just wanted a quick snack Before class, the bookstore provides a variety of items to satisfy your needs.

    Dorm Life

Although fresno city college does not have dorms on campus, there are many apartments near the school that will provide you with easy access to the campus.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are planning on attending fresno city college, I recommend you join either a program or a club on campus. Some clubs participate in most on campus activities and during the first week of school they give out snacks and drinks and help guide you to your classes. One club even provides free scantrons, a refrigerator, and a microwave to the students. Basically find out what other opportunities are available and take full advantage of them while you can.

Great for these types of students

    Theater majors, dancers, singers.

    Bang for the buck

Considering it's a city college, the price you pay is minimal. Books and gear is over-priced but you get that everywhere. If you can stand the people, it's a pretty good deal.

    What to do for fun

There are many activities, sports games, fairs and shows to attend at the college. However, the students tend to stay within their own comfort zone.

    Food and Dining

Two buildings sell food, the cafe and the cafeteria. The cafe only takes cash but it does have a Chinese family who actually cook fresh meals. The cafeteria is mostly commercial foods. Not great quality for either.

    Dorm Life

There are no dorms, many end up in apartments in the tower district.

    Academic Rigor

The general education and theater courses are a breeze, upper division science courses take more dedication and should not be taken lightly.

    Tips for prospective students

For art/ theater majors, participate in as much as possible because the performances do get great publicity. Other majors, look into Willow International, it's not too far from Fresno City College and is a more constructive learning environment.

    In three sentences

Fresno City is a beautiful campus with great instructors and potential. That being said, the students who attend make the learning environment less than helpful. If you're studying a form of art or theater, this may be the place for you.

There are security guards and police about frequently, and there is a system installed that any FCC student can join called 1st-to-Know, which sends you a text as soon as there is a potential threat on campus. I feel very safe going to school each day.

    Greek Life

There are only two Co-Ed greek societies for FCC students. I do not know much about them, I would recommend going to the school's website to get more information.

    Clubs and Activities

I can't even begin to name all the clubs available, but I guarantee there is something for everyone. As far as activities, there is always a different event going on, and plenty of job fairs and other ways to get help and improve your life.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for students who don't mind not having a real college experience for their first two years, because they want to save lots of money.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Once a month, there is a vendor fair on campus. You can find everything from sunglasses, to energy drinks, to artwork. I personally like to hang out in the garden in the botany building. It's one of the most beautiful, not so populated areas on campus, complete with a turtle pond, mini waterfall, and cactus grove.

    Bang for the buck

If you use ratemyprofessor.com to pick the good, engaging teachers, and get yourself on a good educational plan early, you will be basically receiving the same education as your friends at universities, but for a much cheaper price.

    What to do for fun

If your schedule allows, try taking a fun class such as History of Rock and Roll, Photography, Art, or Dance. There are plenty of sports games to attend, and events on campus such as discussion panels on certain topics, or famous speakers. Recently, the pitcher for the Giants baseball team gave a speech on campus.

    Food and Dining

There is a cafeteria and a cafe on campus. The food is not bad, but rather expensive. I would recommend just bringing a lunch from home.

    Dorm Life

    This college doesn't have dorms.

    Academic Rigor

It depends on your major, however expect to put in lots of extra study hours in the areas of science, math, medical, and engineering fields.

    Tips for prospective students

If you already know your intended major, meet with your counselor as soon as possible to make a Student Educational Plan. If eligible, apply to the Leon S. Peters Honors Program. You will receive more privileges as a student in that program. Take advantage of the free services FCC provides, such as tutoring, health check-ups, and psychiatric counseling.

    In three sentences

Attending FCC is a great way to save money by getting general education courses out of the way before transferring to a more expensive university. There are plenty of opportunities to try new things, get help if you need it, and there are some really engaging, well spoken professors and teachers. However, it is a city college, so people don't have much collective school spirit and everyone basically remains focussed on what they need to get done.

    Campus Safety

Every time I am on campus I am aware of the campus security which is comforting. Also, Fresno City College is a part of a district of community college branches, and they have their own kind of police force throughout the district. I am taking courses at three campuses: Fresno, Willow International, and Reedley colleges, and in my commute to all I have seen these officers traveling the roads to all three.

    Greek Life

I have no incite to greek life besides knowing that there are active charters on campus which I believe might be affiliated with the greek system at Fresno State.

    Clubs and Activities

Not on campus that much but through flyers and aftermath clean-up, there seems to be no shortage of activities.

Great for these types of students

Seems to be working for all types of students and learners. The campus offers most courses with sections as a night class for the part-time working student, and next semester I'm signed up for a hybrid course, the bulk of which is done online with a handful of face to face sessions, mostly for tests. This range of opportunities I think is great for all the different types of students and their situations.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Unfortunately I haven't spent enough time on campus during peak hours to notice much in areas of traditions. However, through the opportunity of an extra credit assignment I was exposed to a little learning/reading museum on Campus. It is dedicated to Gary Soto a poet and author who is native to Fresno and alumni to Fresno City College. I don't remember if it is the only one in the state or the nation but his museum is the only one named after/dedicated to a living writer. I happened to gain this knowledge first hand from the author who traveled down from his home in Berkley to give a couple tours. For an avid reader like myself I found it very interesting.

    Bang for the buck

This is my first year in school where I have instructors that are literally my age and/or younger. With knowing older people who are going back to school this seems to be a more common thing these days. I actually appreciate this age difference. In both of my classes in which this occurs, they obviously know what they are talking about which is always nice coming from the person teaching the course, but they often offer methods and perspectives that I can better relate to. This relateability makes taking in the course material that much easier and less intimidating. Besides the courses being less intimidating, it also makes approaching the teacher less intimidating as well, which when you are struggling with course material can mean all the difference in turning your progress around.

    What to do for fun

Love going to the movies when I can, enjoy trying new restaurants and small dining places to our Fresno area with friends and or family. And I try to get out to the local events. April is packed: being treated to Wicked for my birthday at the Saroyan Theater, last weekend Clovis hosted Big Hat Days, and soon we have Vintage Days at Fresno State, and the Clovis Rodeo at the end of the month. But lately with my higher pace with school, sometimes I just like to enjoy relaxing with my dogs and enjoying some reruns of Bones or Castle.

    Food and Dining

I don't really eat on campus but the spots in the local area around campus is great: tea shops, vegan, great sandwhich places, diner, and standard starbucks. Great range for all ages and types of eaters.

    Dorm Life

It's a city college and I'm in my late 20's so I'm not in the dorm, but the local area around campus offers great options for all ages.

    Academic Rigor

I'm half on half with academic rigor with my current course load. My English course isn't terribly hard but compared to previous attempts it is proving to be very beneficial to me. My Comm-2 course isn't very difficult but the content is most interesting that I never get board and often look forward to the chapter readings. Taking both a Chemistry and a Biology, both very challenging course and teachers but I think it works to my advantage because it keeps my focused on the course load, and helps me time manage better.

    Tips for prospective students

Take advantage of the resources like the writing centers and Beyond the Classroom group tutorial sessions, they really help. I've used them for all of my Chemistry units and I've nearly gotten A's on all of my tests.

    In three sentences

Offers an abundance of easily accessible resources. I haven't had the best experience with the counselors so far but many students have recommended good alternatives. Conversations started in the classroom are often continued in my circles outside of school in a very pleasant way, enjoyable.
