Great for these types of students

If your like me and you would hate to even think about walking into a class with more than 20 students in it .. well gainesville is the place for you. The class size is just right!

    Bang for the buck

Tuition is great!Financial aid office is helpful also!

    Am enjoying being here

Its easy to make friends, and connections with others in your classes. The campus is small so more than likely the will have the same class with you again the next semester. Gainesville state is like its own small community.

    Am learning a lot

The small class size allows the teachers to take more time to make sure students understand concepts. Most teachers will help in any way to make sure that each student understands the material before moving on. The math lab is a BIG help!

Great for these types of students

Students who prefer smaller class sizes and do better with the teacher interacting with the class will love Gainesville State College, at least the Oconee Campus. Here the classes are small and the Teacher knows you by name. If you feel that you would enjoy the larger, auditorium style classes, unfortunately GSC Oconee campus doesn't have any of those but I'm not sure about the Oakwood campus. But this was definitely a deciding factor for me when choosing the Gainesville Oconee campus.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are planning on attending GSC, make sure that you turn all of your paperwork in on time or early. Being a small college, they have limited staff and have a lot of work concerning Financial Aid and scholarships so it takes a little time for them to get everything done. The best advice I can give is DONT PROCRASTINATE ON FINANCIAL AID DEADLINES.

    Bang for the buck

For the price that I am paying per year, I could only receive half the classes at a larger University like UGA. And being at Gainesville allows you access to everything in the University System of Georgia like the UGA library, which is a great resource. Also, many of the teachers at Gainesville have taught, or graduated from UGA. It is definitely more bang for the buck at Gainesville State College.

    Am enjoying being here

I attend the Oconee campus GSC and the college creates a very friendly atmosphere for its students. From couches in the hallways to the Cafe : Ine coffee shop in the main building. I always feel comfortable kicking back and studying, watching TV, or just hanging out with my friends. Be careful of the campus police though! They're very friendly, but they'll get you if you do something out of line.

    Am learning a lot

So far, the Professors that I have had have been very well informed in their fields. I did however have an Econ Professor who was Korean and still speaks some broken English haha. He was still a great teacher and I learned a lot in his class. All of the teachers love their students and will do anything to help. They are very reachable and involved with their students aswell so you are always able to ask questions and meet with them outside of class.

Great for these types of students

It is great if you are looking to stay close to home, and for small class sizes.

    Tips for prospective students

It really is just great, there are so many helpful resources, and great teachers, that really make learning interesting!

    Am enjoying being here

The teachers are very willing to help! Which I believe is important!

    Am learning a lot

This is a great college! The teachers are very helpful, and the school provides many resources to help you further your education. For example, we have a writing center, where you can go to get help on papers, and essays. We have a math lab, where math tutors are available to help you. There are so many resources at this college, and because of class size, teachers are able to better help you learn. All of the teachers I have had are very willing to take out time to help you, and or re-explain anything you do not understand. It is a fairly small campus but you get a great variety of classes, and teachers to choose from. Like I previously said, there is an abundance of resources, and help you can receive for classes. Gainesville State College is a great school, and I highly recommend it!

    Tips for prospective students

don't party. DO NOT live in the student community right off campus, it will bring you down. The only (and I mean ONLY) problem I have had is with other students. Some don't really want/need to be there and it brings the whole class down. But these kids don't last too long anyway

    Bang for the buck

Yes! never thought I would have a 3.7 gpa, much less be an honors student, but Gainesville made that possible!

    Am enjoying being here

    Small community, great student services

Small classes, great for just taking the core classes that are the weed out classes at bigger universities. I wouldn't take too many upper level classes here though...

Great for these types of students

Gainesville State is a great school for any students with any income or age. Gainesville State has low tuition which is good for new incoming students to start off. You can get your education anywhere but doing it for a lower price is even better. Gainesville State College is a amazing school to get your education from having you to be in debt.

    Tips for prospective students

Prospective students shouldn't miss the chance to apply to Gainesville State. You might think that it's only a community school but in fact it's a part of the University System of GA. They have a variety of degrees for you to get. And they have a great transfer system. It's a wonderful college for you to have a great start of your first time in college.

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy attending Gainesville State. It's a nice campus and the people here are really friendly. May it be your classmates, your professors or the staff, everyone here is really friendly and patient with you. The class size is small which is wonderful because you feel more engaged with your classmates and your professors.

    Am learning a lot

The professors here are great! They are really helpful and understandable. They make sure you're on track and they keep you on notice on everything that's happening in class. If you need your professors, they're always there in their office or you can email them and they reply back right away. Each professor has their own way of teaching the class and some might do it by lectures or notes but no matter how they teach they get the students inform and involved. I've learn a lot already in my first two week here at Gainesville State!

    Campus Safety

Security is a top priority within our campus.

    Greek Life

I am not sure about Greek life.

    Clubs and Activities

We have a variety of activities from environmental, cultural, and scientific aspect.

Great for these types of students

Mentoring and peer support is strongly provided within our campus.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

We have many cultural awareness which I believe are important for future professionals.

    Bang for the buck

I give this a three stars.

    What to do for fun

There are many outdoor activities within the school campus such as hiking, biking, jogging, etc.

    Food and Dining

The school offers a variety of food within the menu.

    Dorm Life

I live at home, but if you are able to live on campus then go for it. I feel it is a privilege that young college students should experience.

    Academic Rigor

Hard work does pay off and though is hard, it feels rewarding to accomplish successfully.

    Tips for prospective students

I believe in exploring all options because it is how you may find your passion.

    In three sentences

Gainesville State College has provided me with the opportunity to enhance my education, skills, and future career development. Campus Safety

I feel very safe on campus. The Oconee campus is already pretty safe, it's in a small town that has a low crime rate. There is always a cop on site and the campus security can always be found and relied on.

    Bang for the buck

I would say that this school is definitely worth the money. I was unsure of what I wanted to do, and I am still on the fence with it all, so I was not willing to pay a large sum of money just to take classes. The tuition is perfect for someone straight out of high school and unsure of what they want to do.

    What to do for fun

The campus of Oconee is pretty small, but it's very comfortable to find a table outside and study or hang out with friends. Athens is also only a short drive away, which provides an endless amount of fun.

    Food and Dining

Both Oakwood and Oconee campuses are located near sources of food.

    Dorm Life

On the Oconee Campus, there are no dorms. I do believe thought that the school does provide a list of apartments within the area for students to stay in.

    Academic Rigor

The classes are the same as any other school. It's not a major University, but that doesn't mean it's classes are going to be easier or on a lower level. The classes here offer the same as what you'll get somewhere else.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't take this school for granted. It isn't the University of Georgia, but it's still a college and no matter how small the class or the amount of work you have to do, you're going to want to do the work. This isn't high school.

    In three sentences

Gainesville is certainly the best college to look at if you're unsure of a major. It's cheaper and the professor there are just as eager to help you learn. The class sizes are smaller and more intimate, assuring that getting help from a professor would be much easier than a class of 300+ students.

    Campus Safety

Not many people get hurt on campus, so it is fairly safe. Aside from the young and unexperienced drivers that is.

    Greek Life

I don't believe that Greek life exists on campus.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many clubs on campus, though I do not attend any and therefore can not really say how decent they are.

Great for these types of students

This college is great for the underachievers, as well as those students who are just wanting to achieve cheap basics before going on to a more expensive education.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is one building on campus near the back that no one ever seems to use, and behind that is the hiking/walking/biking trail that leads to the dorm-like apartments.

    What to do for fun

There are several clubs on campus that should be able to suit your fancy. However, I personally don't know of any that I especially like.

    Food and Dining

There are only two places where you can eat on campus, and their food is somewhat decent, but if you do not like the food on campus there are many restaurants and fast food places to go to around campus.

    Dorm Life

There is no dorm life; however, there is a wonderful apartment nearby (within walking distance) the school that is very pleasant.

    Academic Rigor

The only thing the police on campus seem to worry about is parking violations (which students actually write up the violations) and pets on campus. Though I must admit that one officer asked me whether or not I was homeless one day while I was waiting for my carpool to pick me up. There is not much crime to report, but what violations they do have are mostly petty ones.

    Tips for prospective students

Always look at rate my professor before joining the class. If you do not, you might not get a good professor and your grades might suffer.

    In three sentences

In many cases, Gainesville State College is quite boring and dull; however, there are a few exceptional professors on campus that go well and above this average dullness. I find that it is the teachers that don't know how to teach that make the school weaker than what it should be. The best way to improve the school is to improve the faculty that teach it.

Great for these types of students

GSC is great for students who wish to find out what college is like in a friendly, entertaining enviornment. It's slightly more strenuous than high school (probably not as much as other universities), but still offers a great place to go before transferring to another location, or perhaps to even get a degree, if your program is offered.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure everything is on time; both your work and yourself. Lectures are very important here, and take up most of the courses. Ask questions, take detailed notes, and make sure you do all the assigned reading; your grades will show it if you don't, as teachers WILL ask questions from the books as well as their lectures; including information that is in one, but not the other.

    Bang for the buck

You can't beat the price for this college. At just over $1300 tuition per semester, it's cheaper than most other colleges. It has

    Am enjoying being here

This school is highly enjoyable, including a fantastic game room, friendly atmosphere and teachers, as well as friendly representives for student services. The nature trails, tennis courts, and expansive library are also extremely enjoyable, and help immensely with reasearch. There are many facilities to help make college enjoyable and managable.

    Am learning a lot

While there are plenty of new concepts that I did not receive in High school, I feel that many of my courses spent too much time going over things I have already learned; in science and history courses, more specifically.

there aren't a lot of traditions or anything of the sort because of off-campus housing.

    Bang for the buck

the main reason i attend gainesville state college is because of the tuition price. no matter your major, you have to take core classes. you can get the same education locally as you can at an expensive school. i am going to school here for my core classes and transferring to a medical school later on so that i don't end up with more debt than i can afford.

    What to do for fun

i usually stick to my studies, so i don't usually go out. if you do want to have some fun, i would suggest restaurants in nearby cities and some underground clubs.

    Food and Dining

it is a school in the middle of a small city, so if you like night life, there will be something somewhere for you to do. you will have to find it, but there are a few restaurants and hang out spots in the local area.

    Dorm Life

gainesville state has off-campus housing, which is nice, but then again is a little more expensive than on-campus housing. there aren't as many people staying in apartments, so there aren't too many things to do outside of school.

    Academic Rigor

the classes are moderately hard, but if your professor does not know how to teach very well, the class will be harder than it needs to be.

    Tips for prospective students

please check into your teachers and adjust your classes according to your liking so you can be comfortable and successful.

    In three sentences

Gainesville State College does have a cafeteria, the food is not fancy, but it is decent.

    Dorm Life

There are no dorms in Gainesville State College. Many people live with roommates around the area.

    Academic Rigor

Gainesville State College is very serious about the student's education. The professors and counselors provide students with plenty of information and advice to pass classes. The grading is fair, and the professor follow their guidelines, if they have any, some can include absences.

    Tips for prospective students

Prospective Students should be aware that the parking lot is always full, so it would be nice to arrive on campus early. Students if you have questions or concerns about the class do not be afraid to go to the professor. If students need help, there are math and English labs where tutors are available at no charge. For prospective freshmen, always stay on track and do not get behind, because college can be difficult especially towards the end of the semesters.

    Campus Safety

Very solid safety level but, they are pretty lenient when it comes to being caught on campus with tobacco as long as you are in your own vehicle, seeing as the campus is tobacco free. Speaking of vehicles, the school is a commuter campus, so you better believe that public safety is all about writing every possible parking ticket they can. Commute safely and beware of the teachers parking lots.

    Greek Life

    None till spring of 2012.

    Clubs and Activities

Over 100 clubs on campus. Since there are no on campus dorms, the school had to make sure people could meet others through other means and they surely nailed it with their extracurricular clubs and soundly functioning SGA.

Great for these types of students

Students looking to transfer to larger universities, students who work while attending college seeing as there are just as many night classes offered as there are regular timed classes, students who are independent and cannot afford an expensive university and students who are only looking to acquire a two year degree.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The school's mascot is currently the fighting geese. Im very proud to say, GSU will no longer be a flock in the spring.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition at the moment is very affordable as well as the surrounding housing. Not sure how everything will change once GSC merges with NGCSU, but at the moment, the education you receive here at GSC for the price they charge makes the phrase Bang for your buck seem like a scientific law pulled straight from a physics textbook.

    What to do for fun

There are over 100 clubs to join at GSU including everything from Equestrian to scuba diving. The school will be merging with a current University in the spring of 2012 which will bring greek life onto campus as well as future on campus housing and division 2 athletic programs. The intramural program is excellent at GSU and the staff is all about heated competition fitting into everyones schedules as best as possible. Lastly, as i said before, downtown Atlanta is 30 minutes away with an incredible amount of things to do there and the Blue Ridge Mountains are a 45 minute drive for those who love hiking and outdoors.

    Food and Dining

There are plenty of fast food restaurants located just off campus as well and multiple nice dining in places as well. The campus is a mere 30 minutes from downtown Atlanta once you hop on the highway and 5 minutes from the heart of Gainesville meaning, your a maximum of 30 minutes away from whatever your stomach is craving. Also there are plenty of vending machines on campus and the dining hall on campus actually has great food and usually has some kind of special running daily.

    Dorm Life

There are no dorms on campus but plenty of campus life and clubs to join considering most students commute by means of living just off campus.

    Academic Rigor

The freshman classes are not geared with intent to weed students out like larger universities freshman courses are so they may be taken as not very rigorous but, the professors are all top tier and make sure you have the knowledge and concepts down pat to continue your education. The upper level courses are decently rigorous as one would assume but thats really just focusing on the course load, considering if you are taking upper level courses, they are in your future field of work or profession. Also, many of the sophomore level classes are designed to prepare students for transferring to a large university such as UGA or Georgia Tech, so don't think attending here is a walk in the park to place a degree on your wall.

    Tips for prospective students

If you plan on transferring to a larger University or only only plan to obtain a two year degree, this college is perfect, except that after this fall the enrollment is going to explode with its merger to become the University of North Georgia, so if your plan is to attend this school, apply as soon as possible and cross your fingers.

    In three sentences

The diversity of GSU is awesome and the continued expansion of the college is on point, not to mention that in the spring of 2012 the school will be called The University of North Georgia. Teachers for the most part are very good, this being exponentially great paired with small class sizes as well. The campus is nice but clustered with no on campus housing except plenty of close by and inexpensive apartments are available.

    Food and Dining

There is a Cafeteria in the Student Center, its very convenient for students who get hungry during their stay and wait of classes.

    Dorm Life

    There are no dorms.

    Academic Rigor

Students attending this College have a good concept of what the academic rigors there are. Each course offers high expectations to a course giving each student a degree of difficulty. The courses offer students to exercise a significant amount of knowledge and critical thinking.

    Tips for prospective students

Students should be very mature and determined in their studies because its not very easy. Students should have an anticipated perspective that its not going to be so easy but with devotion and concentration to your studies it should pay off.

    What to do for fun

They have bike & hiking trails which goes to a marsh-like area with a covered porch area, just like a state park. They also have summer camps.

    Food and Dining

The college is right in the middle of a busy little town with tons of nearby restaurants. The bad side--if you leave campus in your car, you give up your parking place. It's very hard to get good parking. They have an adequate dining area, along with microwaves, and vending machines readily available.

    Dorm Life

There are not any dorms. Yet.

    Academic Rigor

The upper-level classes get to be very strenuous and time-consuming. The basic math and English classes aren't too bad. The sciences are difficult to study for, especially when you have other classes that take up your time.

    Tips for prospective students

Jump in! Get involved in extra-curricular activities, and stay on top of your studies. The grades you make now will follow you around everywhere you go. Every future college will see these grades, so don't take any class lightly.
