Great for these types of students

George Fox has a wide range of students. Though it is a Christian university, there are many people who aren't Christian that attend, because of the quality of the programs offered. It's great for people who want to be involved and be in an uplifting environment. You won't become a number at Fox, but rather a name and a face people will remember. It is a university with awesome academics, and amazing extracurricular activities. If you have an interest in something, anything really, Fox has something to offer you.

    Tips for prospective students

First of all, go to a Bruin Preview. Visiting the school shows you around, but when you stay overnight, you get to be a part of the campus, meet other incoming students, and experience what it means to be at George Fox. Next, don't be afraid to ask questions. Ask students, teachers, or your counselors whatever questions you might have. That's why they're there. And finally, sit in a class and meet with a professor of your intended major or a area that interests you. This will help you prepare yourself for what's ahead.

    Bang for the buck

Fox is expensive. Really expensive. But I LOVE it here. I would pay it over and over again to get the experiences, knowledge, and relationships I'm making. The campus is small enough to always know someone, but big enough to always meet new people. The low student-to-teacher ratio pays off when you can see a teacher you had for a semester 2 years ago, and they still remember your name and that joke in class.

    Am enjoying being here

The academics, student life, dorm life, and sports are fantastic! There's ALWAYS something going on, from intramurals to worship, late night breakfast to serve trips, and from student government to student relationships, one has to work hard to be bored. There is such a feel of community, and the school is a wonderful center for learning and playing.

    Am learning a lot

I am finally being challenged in the classroom again. I almost floated through high school, but George Fox pushes me in the classroom. It expands my thinking, and the teachers are friendly. The ratio of teachers to students is low, so it's really easy to form a relationship with them, and from there, they challenge you to do your best. The classes offered are also wide and exciting, with all sorts of options to fill needed criteria.

Great for these types of students

While Fox is a Christian university and is definitely Christ-centered, students are not required to be Christian. There is a certain atmosphere here, though, that encourages good clean fun (not in a hokey religious way though) rather than the usual college fare of underage drinking and such. Personally, I find it refreshing not to have to worry about inebriated floormates keeping me awake in the wee hours before an exam. All in all, though, Fox is full of fun people, outgoing people, introverted people, studious people, not-so-studious people -- and we all love it and each other.

    Tips for prospective students

Come visit anytime! Bruin Preview is always a good time since there are more things planned for visiting students to do. But anytime is a good time to spend the night and see real life on campus. And when you visit, or if you can't visit, ask questions -- any questions! Just hang out with us. I know when I first visited I was shy and intimidated because I forgot that the people I was staying with were real students, not salespeople for the school. Even the tiniest details you might think are dumb to ask about are worthwhile questions to ask. If you're wondering about something, it's not dumb.

    Bang for the buck

Like most private and Christian universities, Fox is really expensive. Most people can get a pretty decent amount in scholarships, though, so that helps. But even with the high cost, Fox is worth it. It's worth it to me to live on campus, to be with the people here, to learn from the professors here, to pull all-nighters with my classmates that are half studying and half goofing off, to start out undecided in my major and find something that I think would be worth spending my life on that I didn't know I could do before. I'd pay for it again.

    Am enjoying being here

Fox has definitely been a good experience for me. There is a strong sense of community at Fox, instead of the rivalry and drama that seems to pervade some other colleges. Seeing seniors hang out with freshmen is a normal occurence at Fox. There is no hierarchy of authority with the years of students here. As for dorm life, I enjoyed it so much my first year that I am still excited to live in a dorm this next year with my same roommate and many of my floormates from last year. There are also TONS of community activities going on. Dances, easter egg hunts, pancake nights, musical events, basketball games, lip sync competitions, Rock Band battles, and more.

    Am learning a lot

There is a lot more to learn at Fox than just academics. While learning about your area of interest and intended career is, of course, the main reason for going to college, the college experience on the whole helps to create a smooth transition from being your parents' child to an independent adult. George Fox, specifically, is a fantastic place for not only academic growth, but also spiritual and personal growth. The safe but very real environment at Fox allows students to grow healthily, but without the sheltered and hidden environment that some people seem to think Christian schools all have.

George Fox has something to offer to everyone. Not only do they have great classes, but they have awesome sports, and extra-curricular activities that appeal to everyone. Even though it is a Christian University, not everyone there is Christian. We get a wide demographic, which really creates a diverse environment. Fox has something to offer to everyone.

    Tips for prospective students

Take advantage of everything Fox has to offer! George Fox has many great opportunities for their students! Take advantage of them and don't be afraid to take risks! Also, don't be afraid to make friends. Everyone at George Fox is there for the same reason; to learn, to succeed and have a great time while doing it! So don't be afraid to try new things, and take advantage of all that Fox has to offer!

    Bang for the buck

At George Fox University you never have to worry about not getting help. From helpful professors, the Academic Resource Center in the library, and special tutoring sessions from current students, there is hardly any room to struggle at this University. There is help at every corner on this campus. The professors are ALWAYS there for you, and are always easily accessible. It's obvious this University strives for the best, and they don't offer anything less than that. Every cent spent at GFU, is worth it.

    Am enjoying being here

Not only does George Fox offer the best in the class room, they also do a great job of creating a fun, Christian faith based environment. The atmosphere at Fox is one you will not find anywhere else. Many fun events take place at George Fox, such as Serve Day, late night movies in the outdoor amphitheater, Bruin Brawl, dances, and many other fun events you can only experience at George Fox University!

    Am learning a lot

There is not a day that goes by where I don't learn something new. Whether I learn something about my major, a fun fact, or I grow in knowledge about my faith, I am constantly learning. Professors take the time to thoroughly explain, dissect and analyze what they teach. You leave class feeling like you learned something and made your time worth while. GFU succeeds in making every class a great one.

Christians who enjoy a caring, encouraging, kind, and fairly studious education. You will grow academically, personally, as well as spiritually.

    Tips for prospective students

Work hard at getting satisfactory test scores on SATs, CLEPs, etc. so that you don't have to spend valuable time taking some of the required classes. Also, if you are interested in any major involving the medical field, take Anatomy in high school if it is available. It is best to get a jump start on the more difficult subjects.

    Bang for the buck

Although GFU can be fairly expensive, I would count every penny to be worth it. Always keep your eye open for financial aid, and keep in contact with your financial aid counselor.

    Am enjoying being here

At Fox you are surrounded by a community of people interested in your growth academically, spiritually, and socially. The professors are interested in you as an individual, willing to meet outside of the classroom. I am a nursing major at GFU and although it is an intensive program, it is not as deadly as they make it out to be. If you enjoy learning, as well as building relationships with your peers and faculty, George Fox is a great pick! You will be hard pressed to find a college that is as friendly, welcoming, and uplifting as George Fox University.

    Am learning a lot

I am studying what I love, as well as absorbing an appreciation for a wide variety of disciplines.

Great for these types of students

If you want to learn more about yourself, and God, George Fox offers you that opportunity. If you look forward to working at your dream job, Fox can help you get there. If you are willing to step out of your comfort zone, and be exposed to different cultures, and make friends of different back-grounds, Fox can give you that experience. Lastly, if you want to be challenged to reach your potential, George Fox will make it happen. God Bless you in the decision you make for collage.

    Tips for prospective students

Make a list of goals (academics first off) when and if you come. It is a lot easier to to keep your eye on the goal when you have that list handy when the temptation of distraction rolls around. Secondly, grades are important, but you need time to rest, and just hang out with others (besides your text book) so, get involved. There is bound to be a club that is just right for you that you could make a special contribution to. Next, thou shalt go to chapel! Just kidding, but there is a spiritual life credit minimum that you must earn while attending George Fox. There are way more opportunities for spiritual life credit than needed, but if you do end up coming here, I would challenge you to go more times than required. I have gained insight on topics that I would have never thought of before through the teachings of our speakers. Plus, it will stink if you wait till the last minute to earn your spiritual life credits, like around finals time, and you have to choose between that and studying. Lastly, I would encourage you to pray, whether your day is on cloud nine, or you are stressed to death about that test coming up. If you come to Fox or not, God has a plan for you, and you can trust that He knows what He is doing. That is a lesson I had to learn, and am continuing to learn through out the college experience.

    Bang for the buck

I would say so. I am very fortunate to be here, and I probably would not be able to come if it were not for the generous contributions of my family members. It is a expensive school, but the Lord provided for me to come here. Academics are taken seriously but, you gain so much more than an education from coming here. Also, there is new motivation for getting good grades when you (or your family) are the ones who pays for it. There are countless amounts of opportunities available to be a part of through on campus clubs. If this is the right school for you, there will be a way to come here, whether it be through financial aid, or the generosity of others.

    Am enjoying being here

I love being at George Fox. It is so beautiful on campus, and the people are genuine. I am very blessed to be able to come to a university like this. I am definitely developing a home away from home here, and making friends that are like family. The professors treat you like an individual, not just a number in their classroom. Also, the food here is a lot better than high-school cafeteria food. I feel that I am validated, and that I am surrounded by others who I feel comfortable sharing anything with. One of the greatest things about Fox that attracted me in the first place was their value in putting God at the center of everything. I see the Lord doing a mighty work here, and I am grateful to be a part of it.

    Am learning a lot

Wow! I have learned so much from being at Fox so far! Not only academically, but growing as a person spiritually and socially. I am learning like I never have before. I have been challenged, but also, I know that now, I am actually on the road to having the career I have always dreamed about. The professors will tell you here that they want to inspire you to look at topics from different perspectives, or see things from a God-view. I have never had that type of experience before, and I love having that insight from the professors. Right now, I feel like I have been more social than ever before in my life. I meet a new person practically every day, and I am building friendships here that will last a lifetime.

Great for these types of students

This is a great school for Christian students that want to have fun! There are events that go on daily that allow you to step out of your comfort zone and have a good time. You will only be bored at Fox if you choose to be bored.

    Tips for prospective students

Everyone should fill out the scholarship application for the school, and everyone should participate in the Scholarship Competition. It's a great way to win some renewable scholarships, and it's not very difficult. Also, do the Early Action deadline so you don't have to pay an application fee.

    Bang for the buck

It's a very expensive school, but they offer a great deal of financial aid. Other universities didn't offer me enough financial aid to make college affordable, but George Fox gave me $28,000 in grants and scholarships. This is a great school, and more affordable than most people think it is.

    Am enjoying being here

There is a great atmosphere at Fox. You feel like you matter because the teachers remember you, and you always see someone you know when you walk to class. It's an intimate atmosphere, and you get to share it with people of the same faith. It's very nice to have something in common with everyone on campus.

    Am learning a lot

I am not only learning in my classes, but I'm learning in my living area. At Fox, you learn how to be a good roommate, and how to be a good floormate. You also get to learn how to behave as a Christian with people your own age. In addition to this, you do learn many things in classes. The teachers challenge you, but are also very available when you have a question.

Great for these types of students

I really, honestly think that George Fox has a place for everyone! Even though it is a Christian college, they do not force religion on anyone, and they offer many different opportunities for fun for all sorts of people. They have board game club, outdoors club, ultimate frisbee club, biology club, pretty much anything you can think of they have a club for it... But, if they don't have a club for it you can always try and get one started! They are very supportive and it's like living in a community! So, George Fox is great for EVERYONE! :) 'Nuff said!

    Tips for prospective students

Most definitely come and compete in the scholarship competition if at all possible! It will be worth your while. Also, you should try and make it to a Friday at Fox, Bruin Preview, or once you are accepted, Genesis. All of these events are very helpful and beneficial. The academic advisors are there for you to help you with any questions you have! They are so nice and treat everyone like they have known them forever! They get back to you in a timely manner and will answer any and all of your questions. If they don't know the answer to something themselves they will refer you to someone who does. Definitely, definitely talk to an advisor and ask them loads of questions!

    Bang for the buck

I will have to say that some of the expenses at George Fox are a bit on the high side. You do get an awesome education, great food, and wonderful living areas, but it is a little pricey. I guess it just depends on you! I do not come from a wealthy family myself, and I know I will have to be paying back college loans for awhile, but there are also many opportunities for scholarships and grants from the school itself. It is a private, Christian college, and for everything they provide I guess the price is reasonable.

    Am enjoying being here

George Fox is amazing! I absolutely love it! The campus is gorgeous, not too big, not too small. The buildings are all very well kept. But, the biggest reason I think I am enjoying Fox is because there is always something going on! From singing Christmas carols on the quad with hot chocolate, cider, and cookies, then listening to the University President read us 'Twas the Night Before Christmas to the Bruin Brawls, Intramurals, and countless clubs, George Fox will never fail to keep you occupied! Newberg is a super town with everything you need pretty much within walking distance. My overall experience here so far has been superb!

    Am learning a lot

Wow! I won't say this first semester has been easy, but it has been very enlightening! George Fox has really introduced me to college life in a big way! The professors here are all very knowledgable in their fields as well as so obviously enjoying what they teach about. I am never worried about whether my professors know what they are talking about because I realize that they will tell you if they don't know! Then they will look up the answer and get back to you. This teaching technique is not only teaching me things in the classroom, but it is also helping my own studying! You learn things from your professors, the staff, and the students around you, and it has proved a very interesting first semester.

Great for these types of students

Fox is great for students who have the money or scholarships to attend an expensive school. It is also a great school for students who want a good and challenging education. Fox is a great school to grow in your faith by attending chapels and on-campus activities.

    Tips for prospective students

George Fox is expensive so apply for as many scholarships as you can. Also visiting the campus beforehand is very good so you can be sure that you like it and to become familiar with it before you come. Attending events like the scholarship competition and previews are also very helpful because you can meet fellow students so you can come onto campus knowing other people.

    Bang for the buck

George Fox is very expensive, as are most private universities. The money is put to good use in giving us a students a great education but i think it is a little too expensive. I really wanted to attend George Fox because of its values, size, and campus. But it has been a very big financial burden on me and my family.

    Am enjoying being here

I love the George Fox campus and atmosphere. Campus is big enough that it does not feel cramped but small enough that it feels like a close community. I love having that feeling because I came from a small town. From my professors to the girls in my dorm, most people at Fox are very nice and seem to want to be there.

    Am learning a lot

During high school, I did not really feel like I was challenged. I went through high school just doing the work but not learning very much. George Fox has a variety of classes with teachers who actually want to teach. I have learned a lot so far and I have only been attending for one semester. Teachers, like my history teacher who made history come alive, are passionate about their subjects and want to help the students learn. I love being at a school with professors who have the same values as I do and who are willing to help their students learn by answering emails and scheduling appointments.

Great for these types of students

Christian students who want a place to both further their career and their faith will love it here! I don't want to leave.

    Tips for prospective students

Be prepared to make friendships with both students and professors here that will last for a lifetime. Everyone is the same boat on the same journey and simply want you to ride along with them.

    Bang for the buck

While the private tuition is very high, it is very doable. They give you a good amount of scholarships themselves, and there are plenty of on campus jobs to apply for.

    Am enjoying being here

The people are so friendly! I love everyone I have met and they are all so supportive. The atmosphere is amazing.

    Am learning a lot

The professors here are genuinely interested in the students and want to help them learn. If I don't understand something in class and need it clarified, they are great and offer to help me outside of class during office hours.

Great for these types of students

as a christian, i chose george fox not to be sheltered but to be fostered in my education and allowed to stretch and question my faith in healthy ways. i would recommend gfu to anyone who is seeking a fantastic education and a safe place to take risks in friendships and faith.

    Tips for prospective students

if you can, take advantage of bruin preview or fridays @ fox, which let you see george fox from a freshman's perspective. eating in the bon, reading on the quad, and walking around campus with current students can really ground your feelings about george fox. also, don't be afraid to talk to the professors and admissions staff; they will be glad to answer your questions, and if they don't know the answer, they will point you to someone who does.

    Bang for the buck

george fox is expensive, as most private schools are, and that was one drawback in my decision process. and although the price tag can weigh heavily, i would much prefer this quality of education to a cheaper experience at a different university. state schools, though less expensive, cannot quite measure up to studying abroad and talking with professors one-on-one.

    Am enjoying being here

To put it simply, I love George Fox. I liked it a lot when I applied here, and when it came down to the wire, it was my favorite school of those I applied to. But it was only when I came to Orientation that I realized what an amazing campus and community I had gotten myself into. Granted, there are always the normal complaints of too much homework and not enough free time, but the sense of community here more than makes up for it, in my opinion. At the risk of repeating myself, the general faith of the campus unites all of the students on one basic level, and both planned and spontaneous dance parties and study sessions serve to build that community. One other wonderful aspect of GFU is that the whole school seeks to serve the community off campus as well, volunteering in Newberg with all the enthusiasm that college affords and taking the focus off of only learning in classrooms.

    Academic Rigor

as has been stated numerous times, george fox offers not only a strong scholastic education, but a strong spiritual education as well. in my freshman year i am already taking classes for my majors, and my mind has been stretched by the new angles that all of my professors bring into the classroom. the professors are frank about their faith, but they don't allow the opinions of themselves or their students to be limited by that mindset; it has been an amazing experience learning about viewpoints that incorporate both christian and secular opinions. when those viewpoints get a little dry, the fact that my professors know my name and major, even in general education classes, more effectively engages my attention and investment in the classes. on a more spiritual level, i've learned, in part, what it means to be a united, nonjudgmental christian community: a community which takes equal time to learn about the people both within and without it.

Great for these types of students

Religious, people searching for great community, people wanting Christ-centered campus and faculty, people who enjoy rain or don't mind it.

    Tips for prospective students

Visit the campus, and spend the night, if you are able. It's definitely a place you need to get a feel for. If it's for you, you'll know.

    Bang for the buck

It's an expensive school, but the education is worth it. If I could say anything bad about the school it'd be the food. The food is not the best, but that's really the school's only set back. The school is a great place to be, and the education is worthwhile.

    Am enjoying being here

As I stated in my Am learning a lot section, I am enjoying GFU quite a bit. The people are kind; the campus feel is great. It's really a great place to be. I don't regret my choice in the least.

    Am learning a lot

George Fox is a wonderful atmosphere for Christians and religious. It's an accepting campus and the teachers really care about you. Classes are diverse and interesting. The process of entering the school and getting accustomed to everything may take a bit, but remember, you are learning just like everyone else. It's a very enjoyable experience.

Great for these types of students

George Fox University is great for students who wants to have close relationships with their teachers, meaning having teachers who actually know their names and have teachers that are close enough to have lunch with or to just hang out and discuss the lessons. The school is also great for students who wants to know more about God and want to nourish their relationships with Him, and to be in fellowship with others of the same faith. It's also good to those who just wants to have a good education, or to those who wants many true, lifelong friends. It's also great for students who care about their safety because the school is safe and surrounded with a Christian community.

    Tips for prospective students

Go to the campus website and read everything so you can be informed of everything about the school, from campus life to student expectations. Also apply for as many scholarships as you can because the school IS expensive and the amount of grants/scholarships you receive may not be enough. Also, you might want to visit the school so that you know what you're applying yourself into.

    Bang for the buck

The school is definitely expensive, but the education and the relationships fostered at Fox is definitely worth the money. Where else can one find caring teachers that pray for students and invite them to their homes, small student-to-teacher ratio, or even life-long friends, and a place to nourish ones walk with God?

    Am enjoying being here

I love being at Fox because the school is small, so it's great for building relationships. Fox emphasizes the theme of community and it really follows through with it - especially with the demonstration of the Christian atmosphere. The school is populated with friendly staff; easy-going, open, understanding, patient, Christ-filled, teachers; and gracious, cordial students. It's definitely an easy place to create and foster relationships. There's also plenty of campus activities to participate in, including serve trips. Plus the fact that it's in a desolate location makes it much easier to concentrate on school work since there's not much distractions as one might find in a city school.

    Am learning a lot

George Fox has a small student-to-teacher ratio so one can find all the attention that they require from the teacher. Furthermore, since most classes range from 15-42 students, everyone can learn at the same pace, and if not, the teachers sincerely encourage their students to seek their help after class, during office hours, or to email them with any questions that one might have. The teachers are knowledgeable about their subjects as shown either through their degrees or through their real life experiences.

Great for these types of students

all types. literally! i have met such a huge variety of personalities and interests at george fox. if you are outgoing, loud, and like a social butterfly then great! if you're more socially awkward, introverted, and like to keep things low-key then that's great too. there is no doubt that no matter who you are, you will find not just one, but several people who are like you here.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

personally, the creek that runs through the middle of campus with surrounding trails and bridges along it is my favorite part of living on-campus. being surrounded by a balance of nature and city is what newberg is and it's a wonderful atmosphere.

    Bang for the buck

george fox is expensive, but when all is said and done ( note: file your fafsa!) it is as much or just slightly more than a state school charging in-state tuition. with that in mind, george fox is most definitely, exceedingly worth every penny. students can learn ways to save money and the school is overall accommodating and understanding about financial difficulties.

    What to do for fun

the weather is constantly changing here. fun things range immensely but sports are big and there is always something going on around campus. even though newberg is small there is the drive-in theater during sunny months and then $5 tuesdays at a theater across town. between the three local coffee dives, two thrift shops, and random shops in between it's not challenging to get together with a group of friends and have an adventure! hiking, boarding, and biking are outdoor activities that are continually occurring for george fox students.

    Food and Dining

incoming freshmen are required to be on a meal plan but with each year, and for transfer students, meal plans can vary. the food is catered by bon apetit and is generally really good. the cater to students who have alergies, intolerances, and vegans very well while being environmentally conscious. they focus on buying from local farmers to support the community and benefit by getting healthy, wholesome foods. there is a huge variety of options and with just enough creativity and an open mind, you will have great meals.

    Dorm Life

being a transfer i have not personally experienced living in a dorm. i have friends that live in dorms and they do enjoy it. dorm life definitely helps establish relationships and more of a family atmosphere amongst students. the variety of on-campus housing is exceptional and ranges from dorms, suites, studio apartments, up to homes. living on-campus for at least one semester is a must experience and if accepted as an ra, you can live on-campus for free for the entire year. :d

    Academic Rigor

the academics are great at george fox, but the load and intensity of each student depends on their major. nursing and engineering majors have much more of an academic course load than some other majors. overall the teachers are firm and dedicated toward each student's success, whether success means a c or an a average, the main goal is learning based not performance based (that means if you skip class, chances are good they'll remember and ask why).

    Tips for prospective students

i would personally advise you to not focus on the costs of attending george fox until you speak with a financial adviser at george fox. this way you will see how kind and respectful the staff are along with how affordable george fox really is. secondly, do some research. spread the word to family and friends that you are interested in george fox and try to get personal stories about experiences here so that you can start to see yourself as an integral member of the school, not only a student. search the website to see what clubs or activities you would want to be involved in so you can get plugged in from the beginning. pray. this is a christian school, and having a relationship with god extends from chapel into the classroom and relationships. i love it and think that's what makes gfu tick, so pray and see if this is what god has planned for you individually.

    In three sentences

george fox university is truly one of the last of it's kind within the christian liberal arts categories for universities. best known for it's connected community, strong academic programs, and faith-based living, george fox is raising the bar for schools across the nation. george fox has more to offer than commonly known private institutions because the heritage and traditions george fox has are things that money can't buy.

Great for these types of students

This university is great for students who enjoy one on one time with their professors, who want to learn, and who want a small community of fellow students.

    Tips for prospective students

For students who are looking into this school, this is a brilliant university, warm and welcoming. You should most definitely join in a bruin preview day, and stay on campus for a while, to get a good sense of the school. Everyone there wants to be there, not many are there just to be there. It's a learning environment all the way.

    Bang for the buck

This is an expensive school, but they do a good job of giving you what your money is worth. They are sure to help you pay for schooling as well.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is a fun place to be, lots of activities to participate in and never a dull moment any where!

    Am learning a lot

The school is close knit, the teachers know you as a person, all of them love teaching, and they want you to learn!

Great for these types of students

Anyone who wants to find a way to glorify God in their education, career, and life, and anyone who wants to make lasting and wonderful connections and relationships with professors, students, and faculty alike. This school is about community, so if you can't deal with that, don't attend.

    Tips for prospective students

Get well acquainted with the offices. Registrar, Student Life, Career Services, Financial Aid, IT, all of these and more can help you with just about every query, concern, or statement you may need to deliver. And never, never, never be afraid to ask questions. Also, get a work-study job for a few hours a week. There's no need to tire yourself out with too much stress, but job experience while in college is some of the best preparation you'll ever do for the real world. And what other company is going to work with you to find the best time for you to earn money in between classes?

    Bang for the buck

As previously stated, the tuition and assorted fees of a private university can get ridiculous. As far as money goes, there are ways to save but you have to be watching for them or you'll find yourself adding to an already astronomical bill for your education. But for all the incredible experiences you can have when you find the perfect major, an uplifting and excellent group of friends, or a fun club or activity to work with, this college is worth every hard-earned cent.

    Am enjoying being here

I love connecting with the students and staff that live and work on campus. There is such a pervading spirit of kindness and friendship that it is difficult not to enjoy yourself, especially with so many activities in which to participate. There is definitely something for everyone here. You don't have to be cookie-cutter average, and in fact, it's better if you're not. You are guaranteed to make friends here. However, on occasion the rules, regulations, or status quo can seem a bit overbearing, so if you find it nearly impossible to flex and bend a little, this might not be the place for you.

    Am learning a lot

My aunt told me once that college is a place you go in order to learn how to listen. That is the thing with which I have been the most involved on this campus. People from varied backgrounds study here, and every single one has fascinating stories to tell, griefs and joys to share, and life experiences to relate. This includes the professors, who do an excellent job not only of teaching the curriculum, but also of being a friend when needed.

Fox is technically a Quaker school, but I think most people come from all kinds of Christian backgrounds, and not everyone there is a Christian. Fox is a good fit for anyone who likes small class sizes, and likes to have fun!

    Tips for prospective students

Go to the scholarship competition! And even if you can't (I was unable to...) apply online for what you can; you can still get a really good scholarship from Fox. Go to chapel! There is a spiritual life credit minimum...get those credits early, it's not too hard to do that. That way, when you get to the end of the semester and you have projects and tests, you can skip chapel and not have to worry about having enough credit. Get involved. Find a good group of friends (it's really great if they have a car) or a club. Don't kill yourself doing schoolwork all the time. If you're from far away, don't worry if you can't visit campus. Its beautiful, and the dorms are in good condition.

    Bang for the buck

Fox is expensive; there's no getting around that. But many scholarships are available, and the opportunities presented are worth the cost. Professors are more than willing to spend time with you outside of class, and they go out of their way to make sure you get the help you need, even if it means you must meet with them personally everyday or they must assign you a tutor. Fox also has an amazing career services department, which will help set you up with a job, internship, or even just help you figure out what major is best for you.

    Am enjoying being here

There is always something to do here. Whether you're interested in building your spiritual, social, or academic life, you can find a way. Often there are movies shown on campus, and dorms or floors arrange things for you to do off-campus. Study groups in various areas meet during the week, and help is always available in the form of a tutor at the library. Worship times are available three to four times a week and many people form their own small groups. As far as strict rules go...well, unless you're looking for trouble, its not a problem. You don't have to be in bed by a certain time, though the dorms do have visiting hours. Overall, I rarely feel restricted, and once you're done with your freshman year, the visiting hours are so lenient it's like they're not even present.

    Am learning a lot

I am an engineering major and, during the first year anyway, most learning was done through experience. We built air powered engines and learned how to program a robot. We also learned the basics of CAD software. It was so much fun, and you take away some incredible skills! My other classes have been just as fun. Professors expect your very best in everything that you do. They don't just feed you information; they give you clues to the answer and let you stumble upon it yourself. They are teaching you to learn and discover, even outside of the classroom.

Great for these types of students

Willing to work hard, dedicated, kind-hearted, philanthropic, Christian (or at least open to the Christian lifestyle). Conservatives will fit in better than liberals, definitely.

    Tips for prospective students

Check out Bruin Preview! That will give you a good sense of what life is like at the school. Also, try to make it to the scholarship event in February as it will really prepare you for the type of work that the school expects from you--plus you might win a scholarship! (I did!) Visit the school and also a professor from the major(s) that you are interested in pursuing. Attend a chapel session to see if the message resonates with you. Stand in the middle of the quad and see whether you can imagine yourself spending the next four years there.

    Bang for the buck

Yes, George Fox is expensive. We all know that. However, if you are looking at a place where you are sure to succeed and students will attempt to include you in their life--then check it out because that is what Fox provides. For the price you pay you get an awesome education, almost constant access to your teacher, a cute living space, chapel services, and lots of entertaining events.

    Did enjoy being here

Fox has a great uplifting and inspiring atmosphere about it. The Quaker tradition of the school inspires a sense of camaraderie among the staff and students so that you feel like you are making relationships that will shape your life and last for just as long. Though you do not have to be a Christian to attend Fox, I would recommend that you are, frankly. If you are not Christian you will probably not be as readily accepted among the students and judged somewhat, although the teachers could not care less. In fact, the teachers encourage the diversity.

    Did learn a lot

Fox demands a lot from its students, but it's almost impossible not to succeed because of the small student to teacher ratio. These teachers aren't the typical type because they sincerely care about whether or not you are doing well and will go out of their way to make sure that you will be successful. The students here are also incredibly dedicated and work well together. Though it is a competitive school, it is a friendly competition where plenty of help will be given to those who ask for it.

    Bang for the buck

You definitely get your bang for the buck at George Fox University. It might seem expensive compared to a school like Washington State, but it is so worth it! Instead of just being a number in the crowd, you get to know your teachers, and they get to know you. And there are so many different events that are held for students here. You've got dances, the annual slip'n'slide, Welcome Weekend for the incoming students, chapel services 3 times per week, and so much more.

    Am enjoying being here

YES! I love the sense of community that our college has, and that it is a smaller college. I'm from a very small town (about 500 people), so moving into the atmosphere of a city, and even a small university is a bit of a shock for me. I can't imagine being anywhere else for college, though.

    Am learning a lot

I've only been here for a few short weeks, and I'm already learning quite a bit. As an art major, I'm enrolled in mostly art classes, and I'm amazed at how much art theory, techniques, principles, etc., I've already learned.

    What to do for fun

i'll be honest, newberg is not the largest town. coming from a large city, it feels very quiet, so at first glance it doesn't seem like theres much to do. but after a few weeks, you find out how wrong you are. i learn of new things to do here practically every day.

    Food and Dining

heh, we joke a lot about the food here, but i'm sure every college does. and, except for leftover night, it's typically pretty decent. multiple choices every day, but always healthy. not like eating back home, but compared to other colleges, it feels like 5-star.

    Dorm Life

dorm life, especially in pennington hall, is amazing. i've met so many fantastic people, i feel like i've known them my entire life, and i probably will. the dorms are so comfortable, it's almost nicer than my room back home.

    Academic Rigor

    Campus Safety

George Fox is a very safe campus in my experience. I’ve never had any problems, and security is very present and helpful. You would be very safe at this campus.

Great for these types of students

It is great for those who have a desire to follow Christ, because of the religious standpoint of the school. However, that does not mean that others are not accepted, as several of my friends do not agree with Christianity necessarily. Other than that, any type of student can find their place at Fox if they try.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

One tradition that is really fun is called the main event where the different living areas compete against each other in various activities to see who will win. Since we won this year, it made that part of the freshman experience that much better

    Bang for the buck

Honestly, I think that George Fox is pricey. Yeah, you get a lot out of the experience, but still it is a lot of money. It is worth it, but be sure to apply for as many scholarships as possible.

    What to do for fun

There are lots of things to do for fun around Fox. Other people see this differently, but for me it is more about the people that you are with. As long as you’re with friends, anything can be fun. But we have the Foxhole, which has a coffee bar, ping-pong table, pool table, video game systems, and plenty of tables where people can sit and hang out. There is also the drive-in theater in town. There are restaurants like Shari’s and Muchas Gracias, both of which are open 24 hours if you want to make late-night food runs with friends (trust me, so many good memories…). And of course, there are events that each dorm floor does for its residents. Plenty of stuff to keep you busy and entertained.

    Food and Dining

I’ll be honest. The food is not a reason to come to George Fox. It’s alright, sometimes fairly decent, but never all that great. To be fair though, they do pretty well considering all the people that they have to feed.

    Dorm Life

I would say that this has been my favorite part of life at George Fox so far. It is here where the feeling of community comes from. It is here where lifelong friendships and memories are formed. At the beginning of the year, everyone has the fears and uncertainties about what it will be like living with twenty other people in a dorm floor. Will I get along with any of them? Will they like me? And of course, there are often reservations about the roommate and whether that will work out or not. But as the year goes on, all of those fears begin to fade away. By the time I had to leave all my friends behind for the summer, I had trouble imagining not seeing everyone for four months; it felt like I have known them all my life and now I would not be seeing them. All that to say that the dorm life at George Fox has taken me (a somewhat introverted guy) and made me more comfortable and outgoing around other people, which is something that I am extremely grateful for. It feels just like family.

    Academic Rigor

In terms of academic rigor, George Fox is first-rate. No matter what major you are looking to study, you will have professors that will push you to do your best in all that you do. For me as an art major, it is not necessarily academically challenging, but it is very time-consuming and takes creativity. The challenge is there, and I have learned so much because of it. My friends are studying engineering, music, science, nursing, cinema media communications, and business. All of them would agree that their classes are challenging them as well. For the amount of money that it costs to go to school at George Fox, you want classes that will challenge you. I think that they do a pretty good job of making it worth the cost by challenging us in our learning.

    Tips for prospective students

If there is any advice I have for prospective students, it is the same that anyone else would advise someone looking for a college: apply early and visit the campus multiple times to get a feel for whether Fox is right for you. The only reason I mention this is because I didn’t; I put off everything for too long and missed out on events such as Bruin Preview, the Scholarship Competition, and other opportunities to really experience the George Fox life. If nothing else, talk to professors in that department that you are interested in. Even though I missed out on college search experiences that would have benefitted me, I still gained by meeting with the head of the art department. He walked me around to all the art facilities and answered all of the questions that I had. It was this meeting with him that really sold me on the fact that George Fox was where I needed to be.

    In three sentences

George Fox University is a great school. Not only is it academically challenging, but also helps to cultivate spiritual growth in its students. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in it.

    Tips for prospective students

Be yourself and be honest, use this opportunity to explore what you would love to do.

This is Oregon so there is lots to do. We are an hour's drive to any terrain you want. We've got great beaches, beautiful mountains and some very pretty desert.

    Food and Dining

There are plenty of restaurants nearby. There is also a cafe onsight. It has a nice array of simple foods and their entrees are delicious.

    Dorm Life

    I live off-campus

    Academic Rigor

The classes are fast-paced so be prepared to work. There is also a lot of essay writing. Know that going in and it will be less shocking. Be prepared to take constructive criticism too.

    Tips for prospective students

Be open to sharing things about yourself. Also, watch your deadline calendars. They are comprehensive and will guide you through your classes.

    Campus Safety

It can get creepy at night, but there are emergency poles all around and if you feel unsafe you can call campus security and they're escort you wherever.

    What to do for fun

Try to get off campus. A lot of students are local so they go home on weekends and make Saturday and Sunday a little sleepy. There are some cute local shops close by, and then even more to do in Sherwood, which is a 5-10 minute drive away.

    Food and Dining

People complained about the food, but I have heard much worse stories about food in other colleges and universities. Lunch was always good and there's always a big enough variety of food you're bound to find something you like.

    Dorm Life

Everyone is super friendly. I loved my dorm experience because all the girls on my floor got really close. The rooms are really cool too.

    Academic Rigor

It does take effort and time and a lot of thought to complete your work, but at the same time, it is a liberal arts school and I have friends who seems to have a much heavier load at their technical schools. Like anywhere, it depends on how many classes and which ones you take. If it gets to be too much, however, you can always talk to your professors. They are super dedicated and really want you to succeed. I have not had a professor that I didn't like.

    Tips for prospective students

It's a dry campus, so if you come, don't expect the normal college experience of drinking and parties. Fox isn't like that; it's all about being in community with people and helping others.

    In three sentences

George Fox is a very welcoming and friendly community. Everyone is above the generally accepted expectation of how nice a person should be. It's all about connection with the students and how they can go out into the world and make it a better place.

The Main Event, where all the living areas come out and play games and compete for a prize.

    Bang for the buck

Pricey, but the atmosphere on campus is great. The sports, music and theater departments all do wonderful work, and the professors are knowledgable. It could stand to be a couple thousand less a year, but for me it's been worth it.

    What to do for fun

Frisbee on the quad is always great, there's always someone watching a movie. Portland is pretty close by too, so that opens up a lot of options.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria can be a little sketchy at times, but there is always something edible there, even if it's just cereal and a banana. The buffet option is great, has a good salad bar, and burger Fridays and chicken strip Saturdays are pretty great.

    Dorm Life

Decent dorms, good sized for a dorm room. Furnishings are good in all dorms, but better in the dorms with the moveable wood furniture.

    Campus Safety

Today at my residence life staff meetings, I just learned that there is close to $2000 dollars spent PER BUILDING on safety. Each door has card access that only your George Fox ID will allow you in. Even then, only during floor hours are you able to enter other dorms. It is very safe as long as you follow our rulesâ??no propping outside doors.

    Greek Life

    There is no Greek Life.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many things to do! Ranging from having your own radio show to serving food to the homeless in Portland to working in Residence Life to working in Spiritual Life. That is just a couple of the large amount of clubs and activities to do.

Great for these types of students

George Fox is a perfect fit for anyone who is looking to have their name known as well as have an education that is intertwined with their faith.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There are several quirky traditions on campus. Such as the Bruin Brawl. There is a leather bear that they will throw out on campus during an event that sets off a huge war between Grade levels in order to see what grade can get the bear across the street off campus. Sometimes they even have a women's bruin brawl.

    Bang for the buck

I think that college is supposed to be all about your experience. Most people look at George Fox and the first thing that they notice is that it is very expensive. I will be in debt leaving this school, but I would not have it any other way. I have grown and learned so much as a person that there is no way to put a price on my experience.

    What to do for fun

I feel like there is always something to do. Whether it be attend a Women's Basketball Game (which our team is so good) or throwing yourself down the slip n slide that the activities committee sets up in the middle of campus, there is always something fun to do.

    Food and Dining

After being here for a couple weeks before school, I would say that the food has got increasingly better since last year. Although many students complain that they continuously eat the same thing everydayâ??you teach yourself to get creative. Make ice cream sandwiches with the cookies. Learn to make sandwiches with the chicken served for dinner.

    Dorm Life

As a part of the residential staff here on campus, I absolutely love being part of the dorm life. There are several different freshman dorms on campus as well as suites, apartments, and houses for those that are older. There are 5 different living areas that are just super fun and there are always activities going on.

    Academic Rigor

Not only is George Fox a relational school, but they make sure that you are getting the best education that you can get. There are several rigorous programs such as nursing, elementary education, athletic training, engineering, etc. The professors push you to your limits, but also are there to guide you and even pray for you.

    Tips for prospective students

George Fox is the kind of place where you are able to be yourself. If you are looking for a place that your name will be known, this is the kind of place for you. The campus is absolutely beautiful and it seems as if there is a perfect amount of students.

I would not want to be anywhere else except George Fox University. I feel like I am known on campus by students and staff. They care about your worth of person, not just your academics.

    Campus Safety

The campus has a 24/7/365 security and if you call them they will be there. You can even call security to escort you to and from your classes if you feel you need it, or you can call them if you locked your keys in your car. It is a Christian university so there really isn't much crime.

    Greek Life

There is no Greek life on campus, since it is a Quaker college they don't want a sense of inequality spread on campus. We are so small anyways that we don't really need one.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many clubs and activities on campus ex. band, choir, debate, ASC, spiritual life, and so much more. If you wanted to get involved here you certainly could and if you don't that's okay too.

Great for these types of students

This campus is great for all students, but it's particularly wonderful for those struggling with their faith. This atmosphere encourages you to be a better person and be a better Christian. You emerge from here with a renewed and stronger faith.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Each year there is the Bruin Brawl in which the underclassmen fight the upperclassmen for ownership of the Bruin Bear. The goal is to get the Bruin off campus and away from the upperclassmen, and it's a hidden somewhere on campus. One year the dropped the Bruin in off of a helicopter!

    Bang for the buck

The campus is beautiful, this school is nationally known, you are known on campus, you have every opportunity handed to you, you just have to work hard to achieve your goals. This place is truly amazing it accepts you, teaches you, and cares for you. Yes the tuition is high, but if you work hard you could cut that in half easily and it's well worth it to come here.

    What to do for fun

There are tons of things you can do for fun around here! You can do intramural sports, swim, rock climb, go to the beach, join one of the many clubs, go to the drive-in movies, take part in campus activities, go shopping, road trip to Portland, or just adventure! The campus normally has at least two things planned for each week, so there are plenty of opportunities to take part in something exciting!

    Food and Dining

Bon Appetite, or the Bon, is pretty good overall, but they do have their off days. The Bon always offers a vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free option which is so nice considering most campuses don't do that. The Bon for Sunday dinner is to be avoided, but other than that the food should be fine.

    Dorm Life

Everyone is really friendly and the Residence Assistants try really hard to put on events and make sure you have fun. You start off in dorm rooms then, as you accumulate more credits, you move up to apartments and houses. The dorms vary in size and arrangement, but each one has it's own personality you just have to feel it out.

    Academic Rigor

Depending on which professor you get and your own personal strengths your classes can be really hard or really easy. You get lots of homework, but all the professors want you to succeed and you can make appointments with them any time. You can also go to the ARC and get help there too, so you have lots of support in your academics.

    Tips for prospective students

For future students you should know about the Academic Resource Center (ARC) where you can get free tutoring sessions on any subject. Try to participate in everything, we have so many things going on campus and to really make connections you need to go, and they are really fun! Go on the Juniors Abroad program it's a once in a lifetime opportunity, you can explore an entirely new culture, and half of it is paid for because the cost is built into your tuition.

    In three sentences

George Fox University wants you to succeed and you can feel it when you step onto the campus. The sense of community among students and faculty members is remarkable. The best thing about George Fox University is that it offers not only growth as a scholar, but growth as a theologian and as a person.

    Campus Safety

George Fox is an extremely safe school. I never got the feeling like I was going to be robbed or assaulted. I trust the school with a lot of things. The surrounding city, Newberg, is also very safe. It's a quaint small town. I hardly feel uncomfortable when I walk around.

    Greek Life

There isn't any Greek life here at George Fox, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Personally, I enjoy the fact that there aren't huge parties every week. I like that I won't run into somebody completely drunk. I don't care for the stereotype of sororities and fraternities, so for me George Fox is a good fit. I won't constantly run into any crazy people, be judged, or pressured as much as I would somewhere where there is Greek life.

    Clubs and Activities

There's always something to do on campus. Whether it's intramural sports, a dorm activity, or club activity, you can hardly get bored. There is always a place for you and always something for you to join.

Great for these types of students

George Fox is a great school for those who want to be challenged in every aspect of their lives. It's a great school who work well with others, but also independently. It's also great for those who want to grow in their relationship with God. George Fox recognizes the importance of relationships and will help you in your faith in any way they can.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

I'm so sure if this is unusual, but there is a trail on campus over a creek that is really nice to go to for quiet time, or if you just want to go for a walk. There is also this tradition where the boys will have a competition to obtain a certain object, I'm not going to tell, reading it on their website is fun, because there are pictures that go along with it.

    Bang for the buck

George Fox really is an extremely expensive school. But to me, it's worth every penny. Sure I wish it was less expensive, but believe me. Every penny spent is put into good use. The education is excellent, the community is so wonderful, and the campus uplifting.

    What to do for fun

Honestly, there's a lot you can do at George Fox. There are intramural sports where you play just for fun, there's coffee shops and boutiques, the ocean is only a couple hours away, the mountains are only an hour or two away if you want to ski or snowboard, and Portland is only 30-45 minutes from Newberg. There are malls nearby as well as hiking trails all over the place. Each dorm also does activities with each other. There really isn't a dull moment at George Fox.

    Food and Dining

Most of the time, the food is really good! I say most of the time, because I can be a picky eater. Pretty much every time I find something that I enjoy. They make a conscientious effort to make healthy foods, but also have some delicious dessert. Like ice cream!

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is actually fun, and very much worth it. You make life-long friends with the people in your hall. They support you when you aren't doing so well and care for you when you're sick. I love pretty much everything about dorm life: the community, the independence, and the relationships. Though it's nothing like your home, it's a very good replacement!

    Academic Rigor

George Fox University challenges you mentally, academically, and spiritually. They help you find out who you are and where your place is in this world. George Fox does their best to make you grow in every possible way.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are looking at this school as a prospect for attend, scour the ins and outs of their website. It's important to know as much as possible about the school you are interested in, so you know that they are the right fit for you. George Fox is one of the most helpful schools I know of and have experienced. When I was applying I must have called the admissions office at least 10 times. I was surprised they didn't recognize my voice, or at least get annoyed with me! But each time I called, they were so very helpful and extremely nice! They made sure they answered all of my questions. Don't be afraid to call if you have a question, even if it's the simplest thing. Also, make sure to visit the campus. Go to a Bruin Preview, stay the night in a dorm with a current student, eat their food, attend chapel and worship, talk to professors, admissions and financial aid. When you visit and talk with current students and teachers, it helps with the decision making by a ten fold.

    In three sentences

George Fox University is an extremely welcoming school. They care about who you are and want to aid you in your journey in finding your purpose in the world. George Fox wants you to feel like a person, not a number.
