    Great for these types of students

    City lovers, overachievers, relaxed, ambitious, fun-loving, explorers, artsy...the list goes on. Anyone can find their niche here.
    Tips for prospective students

    Don't get carried away by the distractions. By that I mean it's SO easy to get sidetracked by all the great stuff outside of school when it's so close and available. You have a great opportunity to get to learn things from some of the most knowledgeable and reputable professors in the world. Take advantage of that and develop a close bond with your professors and mentors. Get involved in school clubs and organizations but don't get involved in so many that you don't have time to breathe. Find the ones that mean the most to you and stick with them. Last but not least, work hard but play hard as well! Don't forget college is also about social networking as well so break out of your mold and make some different types of friends :)
    Bang for the buck

    One thing that is holding a lot of students back from applying/going to Georgetown is the huge bill. I admit, Georgetown is crazy expensive but don't forget there are always scholarships and financial aid! I would say Georgetown is definitely worth it, whether it be the education, the reputation, or the experience. My only complaint is about the facilities. Being in a city definitely also has its disadvantages. Space is one, and cleanliness is the second. The campus is small, which is good sometimes, but that means spaces can also be kind of cramped. Also, I hate to admit but some places are definitely downright dirty...Yates (the gym) for example... Some facilities are also kind of old but that is a small matter. Leo's (the dining hall) does not have the best of food but I guess the lack of great food there is made up by great food outside of school. These are mostly trivial matters for me so they don't influence my take on the worth that much.
    Am enjoying being here

    One of my favorite things about Georgetown is its location. When I was considering colleges, location was a huge factor for me. I've always been a city person so when it came to choosing, I was really happy that Georgetown was in D.C. The Georgetown neighborhood is really all you can ask for in a college town. You have a campus, and you also have great surroundings outside of campus. Between M street and the Potomac River and even further into D.C., you have everything you need. M Street is fantastic for a day (or night) out with your friends just shopping and dining. If you want a nice jog, a relaxing picnic or boat ride, a spot along the Potomac River is what you would like. If you want something more challenging or further away, take the GUTS bus to the Rosslyn metro station and figure it out from there: go into the heart of D.C to visit monuments & monuments! The best part about being in D.C. is all the opportunities you'll have. There are about a million internships and jobs just calling your name! Again, to sum it up, work & play are in perfect balance here.
    Am learning a lot

    This really depends on the individual and what kind of learning you feel is most valuable. Academically speaking, obviously if you choose to slack off and focus on socializing, you might not do so hot even if your classes are awesome. For the most part, like any other school, there are easy and hard classes. Most of my professors so far have been enjoyable & interesting and the classes have definitely expanded my knowledge about the subject. The key is to balance your required classes with your electives. That way you can make sure you get your required courses out of the way in time for you to enjoy some fun classes in your junior & senior year. In a different manner of learning, I guarantee that you will learn much about life being here. You'll definitely get to understand people and the real world more once you live here. Not only do you have to learn how to adjust living in a close-knit community (not to mention, a roommate everyday) you also have to learn how to live on your own, away from home. Also, Georgetown has great school spirit so learning the history of your school and everything about it is a must! To sum it all up, Georgetown has a great balance of academics and fun.

    Great for these types of students

    Georgetown is a great place for a wide variety of students so long as they are motivated to succeed. Students must be willing to work hard but they will find the opportunities to pursue virtually any field of interest. Georgetown is particularly strong in the fields of Foreign Service, History, International Relations, Politics, Business Management, Finance, Theology, Life Sciences, Nursing, and pre-med. Anyone interested in studying in these fields or generally liberal arts at an elite university should consider Georgetown.
    Tips for prospective students

    Prospective students should pursue a vigorous and well balanced high school course load. Apply early action since there is no requirement of attendance upon early admission and in many years the acceptance rate has been higher for early applicants. Do schedule an alumnus interview and prepare relevant questions. I also recommend writing a short personal thank you note to your interviewer.

    A degree from Georgetown takes you places. With the degree comes a thorough and useable education both in liberal arts and specialty areas. The university is well known and respected worldwide opening up a huge range of job opportunities. Also, do not be fooled by the tuition numbers given for Georgetown. Technically the total cost of attendance is approximately 55,000 per year. However, Georgetown's policy is to meet full demonstrated financial need with grants and scholarships meaning that many students are attending for a fraction of the advertised price.
    Am enjoying being here

    As a top University, Georgetown requires its students to work hard and there is a lot of reading involved, particularly in the liberal arts core classes. However, life at the University is not all work and no play. Georgetown has a strong, but very optional, party scene. If you want to go out on the weekend or in the evening there is plenty to do but the campus is not soaked in alcohol like many state schools. The campus is absolutely beautiful and just outside the gates is Washington, DC and the Georgetown neighborhood brimming with great shopping, entertainment, dining, and nightlife. Besides the locational factors, the atmosphere at Georgetown makes it a wonderful place to be. The students are active and engaged in their community. They are social and accepting. All of these factors combine to make it a place where anyone can feel happy and at home.
    Am learning a lot

    Georgetown provides a very stimulating academic environment with the flexibility to choose fields that interest you. Some of the basic, general education requirements, like English or Theology, can be tedious depending on your interests. However, these classes are more than made up for by the wide range of classes available in other departments.

    Over-achievers. Outgoing. Community service oriented. Sporty. Smart. Funny. Diverse. Basically everyone. Georgetown is an open campus and students are free to express themselves. I am an Asian-American student and have never felt discriminated against or anything of that nature. I feel Georgetown is welcoming and inviting. HOYA SAXA

    Georgetown is a lot of work but worth it. There is no point in missing classes. This past school year, all of my classes took attendance. For one class, attendance was 25% of the grade. Also if you do the math, each class you miss is $100 wasted. Get involved. You are in the nation's capital. There are so many things to do and see and get involved in. Get outside the Georgetown Bubble. Georgetown is not a frat school. However there are some Greek organizations here. For example, I am a member of Alpha Phi Omega which is a co-ed community service frat. There are parties and what not hosted by clubs and sport teams.

    Most mainstream people (preps, jocks, nerds, etc.) will fit in, especially if they are impassioned and intelligent.
    Tips for prospective students

    The administration can be trying at times, but the faculty and student body are engaging and unique. Washington, DC, cannot be topped. It is a fantastic place for internships and job offers. It is cultural and always evolving.

    The administration has a unique idea of what a budget intails. Budgets for end-of-the-year parties are huge, as are some club budgets. However, we still do not have wireless internet because it is too expensive.

    Anyone who is willing to work hard and wants to achieve. Given its location, this school is especially good for those interested in studying political science, government, business, or languages.
    Tips for prospective students

    Do not slack during your senior year and take challenging courses. Apply Early Action, which is non-binding, and set up your interview for a time when you will not be overly stressed. Make sure that you write a compelling application essay and that you give your teacher ample time to write his or her recommendation letter. Most importantly, visit campus if at all possible. Being on campus is one of the best ways to determine whether you will be happy at Georgetown. (Also, if you visit, don't step on the seal!) If you are admitted, be sure to participate in one of the pre-orientation programs.

    Georgetown's tuition is admittedly high; Georgetown was ranked America's ninth most expensive college in Forbes' 2010 report. However, the opportunities to network, intern, and work while living in Washington, D.C., are second to none. Also, Georgetown has built a solid reputation in the academic and working community; regardless of what major is pursued, the degree and knowledge acquired are well worth the monetary sacrifice.

    The opportunities to participate are endless at Georgetown. Student organizations focus on culture, sexual orientation, athletics, food, service, politics, and much more. Georgetown students work hard and play hard. The campus is small which creates a relatively tight-knit community but students can easily access the larger D.C. community via the Metro Transit system.
    Am learning a lot

    There will be challenging classes, and there will be classes that are simply unlike any high school class. Depending on your prior knowledge, there will be some classes where the expectations seem unrealistic, but it is possible to excel. The professors are passionate about the subjects that they teach and are, for the most part, engaging and informative. The variety of classes offered allow students to study a wide range of subjects even if the student has no background in that particular field.

    I came here thinking that I would be exploring DC virtually every weekend. That is not the case--because I don't make it a priority and also there are literally hundreds of things/events happening every night. So, make it a point to go into DC because it is soooo easy to stay on campus.

    I think Georgetown allocates its money well (for the most part) and I feel that it's worth the insanely high Cost-of-Attendance.

    I really love Georgetown. Honestly, I applied to Georgetown as a safety school and wound up matriculating. For a private college campus, Georgetown is Extremely diverse. It's so awesome to walk through Red Square (or anywhere else on campus, for that matter) and to learn other languages being spoken; to walk down M Street and be able to sample Middle Eastern, Indian, American & Latin American food; to have the option of going to a Jon Stewart Rally or meeting President Barack Obama; and then, at the end of the day, go back to your common room and have an interesting intellectual debate about China's GDP, Health Care or even the mediocrity of Georgetown Cupcakes.
    Am learning a lot

    I definitely feel that I am learning a lot more in my classes relative to my friends at peer institutions. I'm currently taking an intensive language and several discussion-based courses. I feel I'm learning a lot and I am able to apply my newly acquired knowledge to daily conversations and situations.

    Tips for prospective students

    Visit the campus before you apply (or before you decide to enroll)- this also goes for every school you're considering. You get a feel for the campus and your gut will tell you if that is the place in which you belong!

    My biggest concern when applying to schools was the financial aid. Georgetown's aid was by far the best (it even beat another Ivy's offer) and I cannot believe I am paying close to nothing to attend this fall!
    Will enjoy being here

    I spent a few weeks on campus this past summer and also went to the GAAP (admitted students) weekend and the campus is very lively and the students are surprisingly very friendly. The city is incredible. I'm sure it'll be hard to not go crazy with all the activities next year.

    Georgetown is known for its challenging environment but also very supportive students and teachers.

    Georgetown is great for everyone. There are great athletic programs. Great cultural opportunities. Everyone at Georgetown seem to be very well rounded. There is a lot of studying that goes on around campus but everyone also knows how to have fun also.
    Tips for prospective students

    Make sure you become involved very early. The early that you join organizations and clubs the earlier that you will make friends and really feel like you belong to the Georgetown University community. Also make sure that you join clubs and organizations that you never would have joined in high school. It's a great way to get out of your comfort zone and see all the great diverse things Georgetown has to offer. Make sure that you see you go to your professor's office hours. This is a good way to connect with your professors and they are more lenient when grading your papers if they know you better.

    Georgetown is expensive and also Washington DC itself is expensive as well. However, the value of the education that you receive and the opportunities that you become exposed to are well worth it.

    There is so much to do at Georgetown. There are so many extra curricular activities to get involved in on campus. Also Georgetown has such a diverse population that you can easily make friends with people here.

    Greek Life

    Georgetown does not recognize sororities or fraternities, but there are a few underground fraternities. Social activity is based on clubs and organizations instead.

    Georgetown has just about every club imaginable, with the opportunity for students to create new ones. Hoya basketball is also a pretty big deal.

    Georgetown is great for highly motivated and politically active students who have an interest in the world around them and share some commitment to helping those in need.

    While Georgetown is incredibly expensive, the payoff is worth it. Georgetown will afford you with unbelievable opportunities and insights you could not gain anywhere else.
    What to do for fun

    There is so much to do on campus that students often neglect the wonders and opportunities of Washington, DC. Most museums and monuments are free, there are clubs, tons of ethnic restaurants, the list goes on and on.
    Food and Dining

    The dining hall gets old after a while, but there are lots of healthy options and Georgetown is ranked highly in the nation for its vegan/vegetarian selections.
    Dorm Life

    The freshmen dorms are small, but there is dorm pride associated with every single dorm. Campus policy is pretty strict regarding alcohol so there aren't many parties in dorms, most of that takes place off-campus or in upper-classmen housing.
    Academic Rigor

    You cannot get through Georgetown taking only easy classes, but students here aren't looking for that either.

    Emphasize your community service and leadership skills. Georgetown is focused on building world leaders and, as a Jesuit institution, values community service.

    Georgetown is an amazing place for those interested in politics, international affairs, and languages. Students here are ambitious, worldly, and diverse in their interests. There is an incredible amount of school pride on and off campus.

    Georgetown's bill is a huge dent in your pocket, but it's completely worth. The degree you'll get in the long-run will take you places and help you get hired by the world's best companies; what more could you ask for? Plus the financial aid packages here are AMAZING!

    I love being here; the location is great! There is never a dull moment on the campus, and even if you feel like there is there are so many attractions nearby that can entertain you. There are monuments, memorials, and even the White House are are in walking distance, plus if shopping is your thing then there is M Street which is filled with superb stores and restaurants. Plus it helps that DC is a university center, so Howard, George Washington, and American are nearby too.
    Am learning a lot

    The courses at Georgetown are taguth by amazing professors who genuinely enjoy the subject they are teaching and present the information in a way that actually helps the students learn. Yes, Georgetown may have a large workload to deal with but the amount of information you learn is plentiful and relates to everyday life and other classes taught at Georgetown.

    Don't go partying during the weekday, it will be tempting because most freshman come from small towns and aren't use to the carefree environment were you can basically do whatever you want and no one will stop you. You are an adult when you come here so don't assume that someone here will clean up your mess, take responsibility for your actions. As a freshman you will also get homesick but don't be absorbed into that! People here are very nice trust me!
    Am learning a lot

    The professors here are amazing, I've not only learned about myself but about other cultures and how ultimately we are all united. This is the type of carefree learning environment were you will be pressured by other students to slack however it is important you stay on track. If you are looking to party on Thirsty Thursday take my advice and don't. Focus on studying, you've been accepted into this amazing institution, don't forget that.

    hard-working, driven kids, athletes seeking exposure. A lot of kids here party and drink a lot, but you don't have to feel left out if you don't (because a lot of kids are faking lol)

    When applying, write about what your most passionate about. Write about things you live for or something truly meaningful. Its okay to be different, weird, or take moderate risks with your essay.

    What to do for fun

    Clubs and intermural sports are a great way to pass the time and often have fun parties. There is always something to do D.C. is a big city and the school is big enough where you will get to know many people and organize group events but not so big that you will stop meeting new people.
    Food and Dining

    Leos, the dining hall, has everything you could want. Some people prefer the many deli type restaurants but in combination there is no chance you will be left starving or unsatisfied.
    Dorm Life

    The dorms grow on you. Whether you like everyone in your building at the beginning of the year or not by the end of the year it is typical to be close with most of your dorm mates. The rooms and buildings themselves are nice also.
    Academic Rigor

    Very hard, and rightfully prestigious for its academics. Having been said, it is not to difficult if you work hard and stay on top of the course work.
    Tips for prospective students

    Join a lot of student organizations and meet new people, never limit constrain yourself to a small group. Explore D.C. Go to the bball games.

    I love Georgetown for the friendly and casual environment. Unlike most top tier Universities Georgetown has a great balance of academic rigor and mellow students. The best of both worlds, it is an ideal school for the 4 best years of your life.

    Campus Safety

    Like any other university, there is a bit of danger if you wander out in the late night. Campus security does patrol all day and night, and if ever in any situation where you need to call 911, it is better to call campus security because they respond and get to you much quicker.
    Greek Life

    There is somewhat of a greek life at Georgetown, but it is not as prominent as other universities. Sororities and fraternities exist, but they focus on more than just the partying.
    Clubs and Activities

    Model United Nations and International Relations club are big on campus, as well as crew. Personally, I enjoy being a part of the Ballroom team, as well as the running club. There are a variety of clubs that range from community service, athletics, cultural groups, debate, etc.
    Great for these types of students

    Any type of student would be happy. Of course you have to work and finish all of the homework but honestly, Georgetown has a melting pot for the undergraduate and graduate classes. The diversity here one of a kind.
    Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

    There is a statue of the founder of the school, and before you graduate you must take a picture on John Carroll's lap. A silly tradition yes, but not the only one on campus.
    Bang for the buck

    For me, being able to call myself a Hoya is a complete blessing, Although it is expensive, there are plenty of resources that the university utilizes in order to ensure that every student can afford to attend. I know that without the help, I would not have had the chance to attend such an amazing university.
    What to do for fun

    Trips to the Smithsonian, the waterfront, the monuments, sculpture gardens, etc! DC, especially the Georgetown area, offers so much to do all year round because the options are endless. You can go to the local market, you can rent a boat and paddle on the Potomac River, you can easily make a weekend trip to New York
    Food and Dining

    Although the cafeteria food does suffice when vanquishing hunger, the best option I recommend is having casual outings in DC. There are plenty of options for food, the diversity of it all and the price ranges make dining out affordable for everyone. I like the cafeteria food, but I strongly suggest that you get out there on M street and enjoy the restaurants.
    Dorm Life

    Depending on where you dorm, your experiences will range but all in all, dorm life is a great start to the year. I found my closest friends through this part of my first year. Moreover, I also established my second home. Dorm life will make you an independent individual while at the same time you will see that everyone is doing the same thing.
    Academic Rigor

    Georgetown is known throughout the globe as a rigorous university. The academic portion it is challenging, but it is for the best. The teachers are geniuses, and the classes cover all of the information that you want to obtain.
    Tips for prospective students

    When applying, be yourself and share the story you want to share. Do not be afraid of the tuition cost, or to ask for help from alumni, teachers, counselors, or anyone that you trust with this process because they will be more than happy to hear that you are applying to Georgetown. Relax and trust in your efforts, your confidence and your success will shine through.

    Georgetown is the definition of a melting pot because it brings students from all over the world to one place; to build long lasting friendships while striving to make their aspirations a reality. Everyone is accepting, friendly, and willing to help you out; both in faculty and fellow students. The academic portion of the university is challenging but at the end of the day it is one of the most rewarding experiences that I have ever had.

    Campus Safety

    Georgetown has a gated campus and within the gates students generally feel very safe. It is common to see people walking alone late at night. However, much of Georgetown's social life goes beyond the gates into the Georgetown area as a whole. The campus police and D.C. police have a large presence in the area and respond quickly to any security threats. However, there are security issues such as theft and personal assault that occur every year.
    Greek Life

    Georgetown University does not officially recognize Greek life of any kind. However, there are both fraternities and sororities that are unofficially connected to the University. Greek life is not a central component of campus life but it is available to students if they are interested.
    Clubs and Activities

    Georgetown has an incredible number of clubs and activities offered to students. The most unique aspect of Georgetown's clubs and activities is the number of student-started organizations. For example, there is a student-run bank on campus (Georgetown University Alumni and Student Federal Credit Union), a student-run business (the Corp) which is the largest entirely student-run (501)c3 non-profit corporation in the world, and a student-run ambulance service (Georgetown Emergency Response Medical Service). Georgetown has highly competitive Division I sports teams and strong club and intramural sports teams. There are many opportunities to get involved with theater and music on campus. In addition to on-campus opportunities many students take advantage of the location in D.C. to get internships, jobs, and volunteer positions in the greater D.C. area.
    Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

    Georgetown has many traditions, the most apparent and simultaneously the most confusing of which is the tradition of calling Georgetown students Hoyas. Every Georgetown student and faculty member is a Hoya. This word is derived from Georgetown's beloved saying Hoya Saxa, which does not have any direct translation but is used very frequently to cheer for teams, to greet friends, to sign off on emails, and to convey and Georgetown-related message.

    Georgetown is very expensive; however, many students receive a substantial financial aid and scholarship offer. One great thing about Georgetown is that as far as cost-of-living is concerned its location in D.C. makes it possible for a student to adjust their lifestyle to accommodate different budgetary needs.
    What to do for fun

    Georgetown has a plethora of opportunities to have fun because of its on and off campus cultures and its location in D.C.     Georgetown has one central cafeteria named Leo O'Donovan Dining Hall, nicknamed, Leo's.     Nearly every Georgetown freshman lives in a double in one of the four freshman dorms. Beyond freshman year most students live in on-campus apartments, suites, and townhouses as well as in off-campus houses.     The Corp coffee shop locations are amazing!! As are the places for food in the Leavey Center. Unfortunately the dining plan at Leo's isn't my favorite cuisine, but there are always plenty of options like cereal, sandwiches, and noodles everyday.

    Although some of the dorm buildings are not new, I made some amazing friends in my dorm first year. There are 4 freshman residences and they each have their own vibe. I lived in Darnall (supposedly the worst) but I have no major complaints!
    Academic Rigor

    The professors I have had at Georgetown are nothing less than amazing. Whether you're there for foreign service, languages, science, or another major, the classes are challenging and rewarding. Instead of just learning facts, I feel like my level of analysis has also improved as well as my critical thinking.

    Try applying early action! Also remember Georgetown is not on the common app so time will need to be spent on their separate application. Visit during the spring and also check out the cherry blossom festival downtown!

There is also amazing window shopping in the entire Georgetown district, so have fun gorging yourself on the delicious food or traipsing around the city's amazing museums and other free public attractions.

    Greek life is... not really greek life. Most fraternities are service fraternities. There are no frat/sorority houses.

    the food is definitely not up to par. there seems to be a lot of choices, but don't let that decieve you. nothing is particularly good.

    some of the freshmen dorms do leave something to be desired. however, residence life works to prove that it's not about where you're living but with whom. there are a lot of events put on by ras and the entire floor becomes an odd, dysfuntional family in most cases.

    classes are certainly strenuous. there is a lot of homework and studying involved, but georgetown believes in the students it accepts. the university would not have accepted you if it did not believe you were up to the task.

    There is no Greek Life on campus, but parties still do exist. Instead of fraternities and sororities, these are mainly thrown by athletes or other groups on campus.

    M Street is a great place to just walk around and hang out, as there is always something going on and lets you eat and shop at the same time. In addition, all of the museums, national parks, and other DC attractions are just a Metro Stop away. You can get to just about anywhere in the city through metro or cab and there are always events going on in the city!

    Leo's is the only dining hall on-campus, so naturally you meet tons of people while you eat. Other than that, the campus also offers HoyaCourt, which has other restaurants like Subway, Cosi, Pizza Hut, Starbucks, etc. Places around campus also have deals for food, like Qdoba's half priced Mondays and Wingo's half priced Wednesday. There are tons of restaurants on all scales on and around campus as well.

    Depending on which residence hall you have, your dorm life experience will be completely different. The dorms allow you to become friends with people you may never approach on a normal basis, and it helps you to meet and learn from people outside of your comfort zone. Your RA (Resident Assistant) is always there to help, and even plans cool events throughout the year for everyone to meet each other!

    The University places a high emphasis on academics. Don't expect to find an empty seat in the Library during finals. One of the sayings on campus throughout the students is, Study hard, party hard, and students truly follow both aspects to the tee.     DC has definitely a lot to offer. There are a ton of museums to explore and tour sites to go and visit. You can also go kayaking on Potomac River right off the campus. During the spring, we have a cherry blossom festival, which is just gorgeous. Every other week, I personally enjoy exploring farmers market around Georgetown area.

    Dining hall here at Georgetown is Amazing. They have a lot of varieties of food ranging from Chinese to Italian. They offer a grab-and-go option, which allows you to pick food up before class. The quality of food is pretty good too.

    Although the freshmen dorms suck, most of the upperclassmen dorms are pretty nice. The Quads are fairly new and clean whereas New South and VCW are old and nasty.
    Academic Rigor

    Georgetown has a lot of General Education Requirements, which includes History, Philosophy, and Theology. Although the professors here are all amazing, I want to say that they are not very generous graders. You do have to work your butt off to get those As.

    Do keep your high school GPA high and try your best to get a high SAT/ACT scores. AP is recommended as Georgetown offers college credits if you get 4 or 5 on AP tests. And most importantly, work very hard on you essays; it definitely makes a difference

    Almost every student is involved in multiple clubs, reflecting how passionate the student body is. Many clubs and businesses on campus are entirely student-run. The only drawback to how involved every student wants to be is it makes actually getting in to clubs very competitive and many clubs and activities require competitive application processes that are sometime more selective than the university itself.

    Georgetown has just one dining hall, colloquially referred to as Leo's. At first, although the quality seems average, the quantity and selection seem great, but the food gets old quick. The food is all-you can eat with each meal swipe, which is nice, but just makes the feared Freshmen 15 that much likely to come true.

    The residence halls at Georgetown are pretty good quality and most students find their closest friends on their floors. There a lot of events and activities that facilitate bonding between students throughout residence halls, and the dorm life in general at Georgetown, is great.

    There's a lot to do on campus, which usually creates a Georgetown bubble since students don't usually have to leave the area for entertainment. There are a lot of parties, club activities, on-campus movies, discussions, lectures, and so much more on campus that meet a wide range of interests. Of course, though, DC has many activities, like museum explorations, Kennedy Center performances, and monument visits, that are fun, too. So really, it's hard to be bored.

    Georgetown could open another dining hall, since there is only one on campus and it can tend to get crowded during certain times. Also, on certain days they can have the worst food and on others they can have the best food, so you never know what you'll get. A lot of people complain about GU's dining hall, but I think it's decent.

    Resident Advisers in freshmen dorms are mostly very involved in trying to create a community on their floors. They throw floor parties and have informational sessions about a variety of subjects. The dorms are pretty old, but they're still nice.

    Personally, I usually have a lot of coarse work, but I believe it's mainly because I am learning a difficult language (Chinese). However, Georgetown professors will really challenge you to do your best. They also know what they're doing. If you ever feel stressed or don't understand the lessons then visit your professors. They can really help you.

    This college is very organized and the admission counselor can and will give you very informative information. Simply make the call and ask all of your questions, for they will give you well researched answers.

    This college is superior in their admissions process. An admission counselor contacted me very soon after requesting information about my program of interest. Not only was the admission counselor knowledgable, he also took time to thoroughly explaining Georgetown University's background history, programs of interest, tuition, requirements, etc.

    Campus Safety

    I feel extremely conflicted rating the campus safety. Personally, my safety has never been compromised despite many nights of careless wandering at odd hours. However, close friends have been sexually assaulted in the safety of our dorms by visiting marines and over-entitled Georgetown boys alike. The disciplinary code at Georgetown begs for stricter rules, but the student body is responding to bring about change.
    Greek Life

    Essentially non-existent except for a couple of organizations that like to prance themselves as legitimate greek life. They offer some fun parties and host events that are interesting in terms of career building, but I did not personally find it worth the hype.
    Clubs and Activities

    Georgetown offers many clubs and activities. Many are entrenched and extremely popular, fun and organized. Others are up-and-coming, which demonstrates a trait I admire about Georgetown students: we are constantly seeking to mold the world to fit our unique interests.
    Great for these types of students

    I recommend this school for those whose interests are naturally inclined toward the international. As a Brazilian first-generation immigrant with a passion for French and English literature, I deeply enjoyed meeting highly intellectual people whose backgrounds matched my academic interests. It is also a fabulous place for those interested in politics due to our proximity to the complete law-making shebang.
    Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

    The Copley Lawn (the stretch immediately to the right of the John Carroll statue one you cross the threshold of the main gates) is the most magical place to make friends, read books, play frisbee and catch some sun when the spring and summer roll around. Hoyas take advantage of this the second it gets warm, and spots become highly contested. On Georgetown Day, a tradition that doubles as the last Friday of classes in the academic year as well as the best day ever, this place becomes the most exciting spot in town.
    Bang for the buck

    While I enjoyed my time at Georgetown University, being a student in the College and not the School of Foreign Service or the Business School, I found that I received much less guidance and structure than my peers. For some, this is what they seek: the freedom to create a curriculum unique unto themselves with classes across disciplines and schools. For me, it created a lot of confusion and lack of direction as my academic advisors did not provide the accountability their peers in the other schools did. I would be extra aware of this fact and either choose one of the latter schools, or be extremely adamant with your assigned academic advisors. Then hope for the best.
    What to do for fun

    The university itself does its best to provide students with fun activities to do on campus and among other hoyas, which facilitates community building and improves the quality of life students experience on campus. That being said, Georgetown the neighborhood has a series of fun (and somewhat pricey) bars, restaurants and a couple of infamous dive-ins such as Rhino bar or Thirds Edition. The Tombs, rated number one college bar in Washington D.C. is a favorite junior and senior hang-out spot. Should students brave breaking the bubble and experiencing the rest of DC (think Dupont, U st, Adams Morgan, Eastern Market, etc) there are many small eateries and fun cultural enclaves to explore.
    Food and Dining

    Although the university only has one cafeteria, Leo J O'Donovan dining hall endearingly referred to as Leo's and jokingly referred to as five-star dining on the waterfront, there are many options there. The staff constantly seeks to improve the student dining experience, with ranging success. The key to Leo's is to come hungry, befriend the staff, and get creative with your meals. If this isn't your cup of tea, the neighborhood itself offers many eateries.
    Dorm Life

    Freshman year dorms are an experience unique unto themselves, and I hope you prepare by packing earplugs, sleeping eye covers and lots of posters! The facilities themselves range in modernity, most being frankly dark and dingy.
    Academic Rigor

    Luckily for the Hoyas we have professors that stand by the school's cura personalis mantra. This means that while they push us to think in more complex and creative ways than you may ever have before, the professors still have a deeply human approach to the students.
    Tips for prospective students

    Upon arriving on campus, do not be intimidated by the preppiness of Joe and Jane Hoya because their polish and debonaire attitudes comes from generations of wealth. Look instead at everyone else, as Georgetown seeks to increasingly diversify its student body and thereby strengthen its academic community. Consider yourself a Hoya from the first day, advocate for your rights and try to make the school the place you hoped it would be by enrolling in what interests you.

    Georgetown offers an interesting and complicated immersion into the top white echelon of American society. The college's culture hones the student's mannerisms, forms of dress but most importantly, methods of thinking. Georgetown ultimately helps to open the mind for the internationality of today's society.

    Greek Life

    Almost non-existent.
    Great for these types of students

    Students who know what they want and are ready to work hard to get there. The goal oriented lifestyle will be accepted and supported by the student body.
    What to do for fun

    Go to the gym, join every single club, plan your future, blow of steam from another intensely productive (and probably stressful) week by getting ruinously drunk. This is sort of joking stereotype and sort of true. Its a big school, and obviously not everybody is like this, but there is a pervasive culture of overachieving that keeps people working hard and making good decisions. Along these lines there is almost no drug culture. Work hard play hard is the order of the day, and students really do spend their weekends drinking hard. Really hard.
    Food and Dining

    There is one dining hall with little selection of mediocre food. It is not big enough to handle the number of students who eat there regularly, and it can often be difficult to find seats. All in all, it is probably a better situation than the grade-E-edible dining hall horrors of our parents generation, but it suffers by comparison with the majority of contemporary universities.
    Dorm Life

    Pretty great. Everybody lives on campus freshman year and students living on the same floor are often quite close. Even after people start living outside the university, Georgetowns small size keeps everybody literally and figuratively close. Its a good situation.
    Academic Rigor

    Like most schools, you can make your academics more or less difficult. Still, Georgetown is a tough place with rigorous required classes. Know what you're getting into--if you just want to skate through college, maybe look elsewhere.
    Tips for prospective students

    Academic achievement is important, but having a well rounded resume, replete with leadership positions and sports, is a must have. The interview isn't make or break anywhere, but Georgetown actually takes it seriously--it can make a difference. Write a good essay that shows that you actually know how to write.

    Georgetown offers a great education, particularly in Government and International Relations, with incredibly available teachers. The students are multi-faceted overachievers from all over the country and the world, but all seem to share a similar attitude/worldview. If you're preppy, athletic, academically successful and dream of running the world some day, this might be the school for you.
