Great for these types of students

Students that want to learn with smaller class sizes and be able to ask questions and get to know their professor. The campus is medium sized so you won't know everyone so you can socialize with a lot of people without feeling you have no one left to meet. If you like the nice fresh air from outside. The dorms are big enough not to feel cramped. Good college for social people because you most likely won't have a lot of students from your high school going with you.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you have over a 530 on the writing portion of the SAT. They tell you they don't look at that score, but they do once you are in college. If you don't make a great score (like I did) they will make you take extra tests (the Regents test). If you do well on that part of the SAT then you have less to worry about in college. Make sure you study of course, but do not spend your whole time studying. You need to meet new people. Don't just hang out with people you met from your high school explore new things. I joined the International Club because there are foreign exchange students in there and it is fun to learn about different cultures. Join a few clubs to let you know it's okay to relax after a long day of studying. You aren't required to go to every meeting anyways. Make sure you occasionally check who your roommate is before you move in (they do change) and plan what each of you will bring. There is no promise you guys won't get along, but don't walk in thinking negatively or else you will have problems. Be willing to share space and be nice and don't bring the opposite sex in all the time, because they want privacy too. Always ask and make sure you express your boundaries. Tell them what you do/do not like happening when you are/aren't in the room. Overall have fun! It won't be hard to do, but remember you do need to study and have a great college experience!

    Bang for the buck

Everything will seem expensive at first dorms over $2000 a semester, freshmen requiring meal plans at $1800 a semester, then classes, student fees in the dorms, activity fees, transportation fees, and so forth. But when you add up all the benefits of what you don't have to pay for when you get to college (computer lab, study rooms, dorm pizza parties, dorm Halloween parties, computer repairs and so forth) you begin to realize you're actually not paying an outrageous price for college. Compare the prices to other schools. This college has small classes almost like a private school, but you're paying for a public college. Dorms are expensive, but the fancy apartments are about the same price. You will save more money after your freshman year, but overall you don't spend more than you estimate. The bookstore is a little sneaky and over price you, but you can always avoid the bookstore by finding them elsewhere or rent them like I did.

    Am enjoying being here

My favorite part about the college is that Georgia College and State University is beautiful. So many people sit outside of the dorms and play their guitars and sit around and talk even if they don't know you. As I walk to class I leave at least half an hour early so I can listen to people play music or socialize with people. When I had an hour between my Biology 1108 and lab, I would sit on front campus with a book underneath a tree with my friends that were going to class with me. You get a lot of fresh air because the wind gently breezes through, and they have lots of trees, grass, and bushes to circulate clean air. They also have a lot of intramural teams, clubs, and sports. You don't have to know how to play a sport to be on an intramural team, in fact it's more fun to get a bunch of your friends together and go play! Or if you know a lot of friends joining one and you don't want to play they allow you to stand on the field and cheer for the teams. Since I am a female I am usually cautious about my safety, but I have never questioned my safety since I have arrived. The whole campus has lighting at night and even the Grove (the apartments behind the dorms) has lighting. Some of my friends live in the Grove and I was worried about walking the extra distance to see them, until I saw how well I could see the road I had to cross. Also if you ever feel uncomfortable walking alone they have a golf cart that goes around campus at night offering to give you a ride (S.N.A.P). If you ever need the number it is posted around campus and inside Sodexo (commonly known as Saga). Also You don't have to worry about waking up really early just to get to class on time. Everything is about 10 minutes away from the furthest dorm (Foundation).

    Am learning a lot

I knew I wanted to go to a college with small classes before I even applied to colleges. My favorite part about my classes is that my teachers know who I am because the classes are so small. Another plus to the classes being small is you know the teacher will be able to have time to answer your questions during class rather than you having to meet up with them outside of class. The teachers so far have been able to answer all my questions within class. They are always willing to help you learn a concept and are happy to see you when you walk into their office during their office hours. There are so many ways to get help too. The Tutoring Center has been very beneficial while I tutor one of my friends because when we found a problem I couldn't describe well enough we could go to them and they broke it down into an easier way to understand. They are all experienced in their work and they are open at convient times, unless you are procrastinating and waiting until the weekend to start your work. Also you can check your courses on your mycats and it will list the emails of your classmates (or instant messaging if people are on) to get help or ask if you missed something in class.

Great for these types of students

GCSU is a great school for students who are looking for smaller class sizes, a medium size campus population, and a beautiful campus. The dorms are also really nice since they are suite style. GCSU is also for students who want to have fun and learn a lot at the same time.

    Tips for prospective students

My tips for students are to study hard, but have fun at the same time. Try new things in college. You may find a new interest. I recommend getting to know your teachers too since they will be the ones you will be going to for references. Get to know your roomate early. Things will go much smoother.

    Bang for the buck

I thinks the dorms are really worth the extra money. The food is just your basic cafeteria food, but they do offer lots of variety. You also learn a lot too.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is so beautiful. The faculty and staff are really nice and helpful. I really enjoy sitting on the front lawn reading a book or playing Frisbee. I also enjoy going on river walks. There are lots of different clubs, intramural teams, sororities, and fraternities to join. Our basketball team is really good too. Last year we went to the NCAA 2 division play offs. There is not much crime either, and the town of Milledgeville itself has pretty much everything even a Walmart. The campus as this new program called S.N.A.P. that helps students get back to their dorm after a late night of studying at the library. Every thing is really central too.

    Am learning a lot

With class sizes only 20-25 students teachers have a better chance to get to know you personally and help you with any problems you are having. Just about every class is equipped with power point and computers to help students learn. There is also a tutoring center, language labs, science labs, and a space lab where you can learn about different stars. Recently we have added a nursing and exercise science building to give students a more hands on experience. There are also several opportunities to join research teams.

Great for these types of students

This is a good school for students that want a small town. and a liberal arts college. It offers a lot of courses, and a lot of majors. The campus is beautiful.

    Tips for prospective students

Have a good GPA and admissions essay. My ACT score was a 21, so the test scores aren't a priority.

Great for these types of students

Georgia College & State University is great for students who are looking for a place that feels like home but is still challenging. Everything that you'll need is within walking distance and there are plenty of people here to help you get through a tough subject like Chemistry. The dorms are kept clean but your rooms are left to you and your roommate, which gives you a sense of living on your own.

    Tips for prospective students

My tip for students would be to manage your time wisely. Don't procrastinate when you have a big paper due for Lit or a project due soon in Math Modeling or Statistics. Spend time each day progressing towards the finishing of the project or study. But also don't overwork yourself. Everyone deserves a break from time to time. If you've spent five hours studying then it's okay to chill with a friend for a few and get a few laughs in.

    Bang for the buck

Depending on your major or what you're actually here for Georgia College is worth the money. It's worth it to me because I'm a nursing major and Georgia College & State University is one of the top nursing schools in the state of Georgia. The dorms are great and usually spacey (and if you get lucky you'll get an awesome roommate). Each hall administrator wants to make sure that you are safe and that you aren't disturbed and you can come to them for anything.

    Am enjoying being here

I am definitely enjoying myself here. There are so many people that you can hang with and so much to do once you have completed an assignment or just need a break. Everything is within walking distance and for the shops that aren't there's a shuttle that will take you there if you don't have a ride. Georgia College makes me believe in perfection.

    Am learning a lot

It is definitely a learning experience here at Georgia College. I've learned so much from the upperclassmen here about where everything is and how everything works. My adviser has given excellent strategies for studying and getting through the first semester. My professors have taught me a lot about the multiple classes and have taken my high school thinking to an even higher level.

Great for these types of students

Friendly, interested in learning, interested in being social, experimental, art lovers, music lovers, active, hermits, hard workers, Everyone!

    Tips for prospective students

My Number One tip for prospective students, especially at GCSU, try EVERYTHING! GCSU is really big on students getting involved and they make it so very easy. Getting involved not only looks better to your teachers and the other staff around you, it also may help you while applying for a major. Most importantly, getting involved makes making friends and getting to know the school extremely easy!

    Bang for the buck

If you have HOPE scholarship, anything will be a bang for your 90-100% free tuition, but GCSU especially. With HOPE, pretty much the only thing you pay for is housing and freshmen MUST live in dorms, which is great! Living in the dorms freshmen year is the best because you get to know everyone on your hall, in your building, and a ton of people in the other dorms too! The classes are wonderful since most of them are pretty small (30 people or so unless it's biology) so you really feel like a person, not just a desk. Because there's not 400 people waiting for the next note to write down, you do not feel like you're wasting everyone's time asking questions or taking the class on a tangent. There are also so many facilities to help you get the best grades you possibly can. All of the faculty is helpful and willing to work with you if you're willing to work with them. Never feel afraid when taking a test to say to your teacher I just don't know the answer to this question, what can you do to help me on it?. They will work with you the best they can to get you to the answer!

    Am enjoying being here

Not only is everyone extremely intellectual and friendly here, Southern courtesy prevails. This may be a little irrelevant, but if you're going into a building or classroom doors are held. Everyone is polite and respects each other so much. There's something here for everyone! With all the friends you meet being on such a small campus you can't help but to run into people everywhere you go, including night-life. We like to say, Everyone's famous in Milly!

    Academic Rigor

Almost all of the teachers are wonderful! Most teachers design the class to allow you to learn, instead of worry about the grades. I thought college was going to be just sit in a classroom and listen to the lectures, but GCSU has small class sizes so you can be comfortable having a conversation with your teacher and classmates.

Great for these types of students

Students who love to challenge themselves academically, love to help other and be actively involved in school and the community, and those who love to learn about different cultures.

    Tips for prospective students

Use your resources here at Georgia College and State. Get to know your teacher well until they know you personally that they can help you if you should have problems. Also be actively involved on campus and in the community. This will give you the chance to really grow as a person and learn a lot of life lessons.

    Bang for the buck

It is worth every penny. A great school with hands on experience, teachers that you have access to if you have any problems, and a family like atmosphere where a person can make friends and a community that works along side the students that attend with volunteer services. Plus we get professional businesses from all over Georgia that come to provide students the opportunity to put their skill into action whether they are currently enrolled or are about to graduate.

    Am enjoying being here

I love the chance to be able to meet people of diverse backgrounds. In addition, this school is relatively small with about 6,000 students in a rural town. this is a great chance to be able to focus on school and be apart of a family like atmosphere where you can know everyone if you wanted to.

    Am learning a lot

This campus provide hands on experience that will prepare you to be able to go into your career confident and prepared.

Great for these types of students

GCSU is a great school for students looking for a small school, but don't want to pay the price of a private school. It is also great for students looking for a small college town with great people and places.

    Tips for prospective students

For the prospective students who are looking to attend GCSU the biggest tip I can give is to study hard for classes whether you think the class is important to your major or not. GCSU strives for excellence and it is important to work to the best of your abilities. Also, I advise students to really to get to know the teachers. The teachers are extremely friendly and getting to know them will really help you in the class. In addition, GCSU offers all assortments of clubs and sports, and it is a great way to get to know other students and to contribute to the college. There are clubs of all interests ranging from religion to science clubs. Take full advantage of everything GCSU has to offer.

    Bang for the buck

Without a bought I believe that any student will get the biggest bang for his/her buck. Each semester students pay for tuition, student fees, parking, dorms/apartments, activity fees, special fees if needed for a class (example. biology lab fees), books, etc. I think GCSU prices everything reasonably and since this college is similar to that of a private school, I believe students are getting a great deal.

    Am enjoying being here

I have really enjoyed my experience at GCSU. One of the biggest things about this school is the size and the beauty of the campus. It is a beautiful place to be and the town is a great small town to live in. Everything you need is close to campus and if you do not own a car, the GCSU shuttle is a convenient way to travel. On campus I frequently see students relaxing under the trees, playing frisbee, socializing, biking, and overall having a great time. Also, I currently live in the dorms which are very close to the campus. Living the dorms is a great way to meet people and get to know your classmates.

    Am learning a lot

Georgia College & State University offers small class sizes which allows students to work closely with teachers and students. This personal attention that students receive is crucial for many students to get the best education possible and GCSU does a great job of providing this for students. The small class sizes allow students to ask questions within the allotted class time frame, eliminating the hassle of meeting up with a teacher for help outside of class. Also, technology in the classes have been updated (SmartBoards, Powerpoint, etc.) which aids teachers in explaining lessons. This semester, I took full advantage of the Learning Center which is a tutoring center for students who need help in various subjects. Thanks to this center I cleared any questions I had in my classes and I felt prepared for all of my tests. All of the tutors in this center are very experienced in their field and work hard to teach students.

    Dorm Life

in the dorms, all the furniture and utilities are provided. you just need your college stuff, linens, and a mini-refrigerator and microwave to prepare your meals. there is a policy of no alcohol under 21. yes, ids will be checked! also, there are quiet hours at night, meaning no noise is allowed at night. the only pets allowed are fish in a 10-gallon tank. no other pets are allowed! anytime residents have a problem, there are resident assistants (ras) to help out. if you would like an apartment style housing, there are on-campus apartments called the village. the same policies discussed in this section are used there. all freshmen have to live on campus (either the dorms or village apartments). after that, they can live in anywhere on or off campus.

    Academic Rigor

some classes are easy. other classes are hard. many professors are nice enough to help students when needed. there are professors who take attendance as well as professors who do not. the professors who take attendance will allow 3 or 4 absences and grade reductions for each subsequent absence.

    Tips for prospective students

please take advantage of the free tutoring service. instead of printing out notes (i.e. handouts and power point slides), write down all the notes. this helps you understand it better. join at least one club or organization, so you can make friends, go on trips, and learn new things. do not take too many electives. finish your core before taking any electives.

    Campus Safety

we have 3 or 4 different stations of police in milledgeville. every place is furnished with safety buttons and emergency buttons. there are escorts around central campus from the dorms to the library, downtown, etc. campus is patrolled by georgia college public safety constantly, and you always feel pretty safe, especially considering campus is so close to downtown milledgeville.

    Greek Life

huge! it has to be a bout 50% greek, but a lot of people are greek as well as something else. there are greek families that are not the traditional greek life also.

    Clubs and Activities

there are a lot to pick from, and they are all pretty active!

Great for these types of students

this school is filled with greek life. so if you are interested in that type of life it will be perfect for you. also theater/ drama & is a big component of our student body make up. so if you enjoy participating or watching plays, chorus, etc. you'll thoroughly enjoy the environment of georgia college

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

it is unusual that georgia college does not have a football team, but one of our traditions since we don't have a football team is to have homecoming in february with a basketball game. as far as locations, we have the west campus which is up and coming, but is a little off campus. some look at it as a good thing but others don't see it as a good thing.

    Bang for the buck

georgia college is both beautiful, and a good school, but some things, like dining, is too expensive and not that tasty. it also can overprice other stuff or the price just not be worth what they offer.

    What to do for fun

milledgeville has limited offerings as far as doing stuff for fun so a lot of people go home on the weeekend. yet the school is working on supplying different events to give students something to do. they have hot events, and other programs. a lot of people that stay on campus go downtown, frat parties, have movie nights in their rooms, go bowling, skating, and a few other options. its all in what you make it.

    Tips for prospective students

come with an open mind. be prepared to interact in class. be sure to make an effort to get involved in campus organizations, programs, and meet people inside your classes. it all helps in the end.

    In three sentences

georgia college & state university is a small university with moderate class sizes, and great teachers. it's located in a small town with an environment that only includes the college attendants. the school has many pros, and a few cons especially if you are a minority.

Get a lot for your money. Looking into the RLC for Nursing (Residential Learning Community). Seems like it offers a great transition from HS to college with friends and team mates that are going through the same issues as you (same classes too). Appears as though you create real friendships that last a lifetime. New facilities for Nursing (40 beds and simulation characters to mimic real life experiences). They also offer a great program for future teachers.

    Will enjoy being here

Small campus, comfortable small town feel. Where everyone knows everyone. Very safe environment!! Dorms are new & clean.

    Will learn a lot

Just attended their Fallfest. Really enjoyed the atmosphere and student conversations. Very open university platform.

Great for these types of students

Its great for students who want to go to a semi big college but with a small college feel. Its so easy to get involved and meet new people here. Be willing to work hard and get involved thats the only way you will truly appreciate it here!

    Tips for prospective students

Apply for the early application and write a good essay describing how your different from others! Diversity is big on this campus! Also if you are a nursing major look into applying for the Residential Learning Community for nursing majors. I am in it and it has been a great experience. It allows you to room with other girls in the same major and most of thw same classes as you. Its really helpful when it comes downt o studying for midterms! You already have a great study group! It also alows you to get some experience in the field on nursing before you actually start the cohort.

    Bang for the buck

Its definately worth the money! A good thing to remember though is how important it is to keep your grades up so you can recieve Hope. There are also many scholarships to apply for that you can find out about by contacting the Admissions office.

    Am enjoying being here

I am absolutely loving it here! I can;t say anything negative about it! Its beautiful campus, good class sizes, and so many opportunities for community service and groups to get invovled in make it such a great college!

    Am learning a lot

I have learned so much since I have been here and this is only my first semester! The classes are not just your typical math and english classes but there are many classes on topics you never studied in high school. I am taking an America's Diverse Culture class and we are specifically talking about different races such as African Americans, Whites, Irish, and Chinese and the struggles they faced coming to America. I find it very interesting and the teachers are very helpful!

Great for these types of students

This university is great for students who love being surrounded by beautiful scenery and wonderful people. It is a small school so our classes are more intimate and easier to understand because our professors don't have 300 students they have to worry about. If you like a small school with many class choices, this is the school for you. They also have a long list of majors and minors so whatever combination you like, you can get. Overall, this is a fantastic university and the minute I heard about it and looked at the website, I knew I was going to attend! You'll love it!!

    Tips for prospective students

My advice to prospective students is that you apply for the early admission. This requires that you take the SAT early as well, which is very helpful when you are applying for scholarships and such. If you apply early, that also makes your waiting time to find out if you've gotten in a lot less stressful. If you don't apply early, though, that is alright as long as you apply as soon as possible. The earlier you apply, the more of a chance you have to get in.

Great for these types of students

Honestly, GC&SU is for great for everyone! There's ways everyone can get involved in. From all kinds of intramural sports to sororities, from clubs to concerts, there are tons of ways to fit in. It's even great for those who don't want to be outgoing and involved. GC&SU tends to everyone's needs, really. The only people it's not for is the ones who don't want to be successful and push themselves. You have to keep on keeping on here. This college is legit.

    Tips for prospective students

The only thing I see in my life and the lives of my friends is that you tend to miss home a little. Yes, when you first think of going away you get all excited because you are out on your own and don't have to live with your parents anymore, but it becomes bittersweet. I find myself going home all the time because I miss my best friend or my boyfriend. Luckily for me I only live an hour away, but I know people who lives 2 to 3 hours away and still make the drive. On the weekend, it's just nice to take a break and chill at home, and believe it or not you WILL grow closer to your parents. You'll find that you love them even more while your away and you don't find them as annoying when you come back :)

    Bang for the buck

Being at one of the top schools in Georgia isn't cheap. It's pretty expensive, but the college offered tons of scholarships and financial aid that really helped me out. The expense is totally worth it. Great classes, great teachers, great people and all in a beautiful environment.

    Am enjoying being here

GC&SU is way more different than high school. Walking to class, you'll see so many people smile at you, people you don't even know, and it really makes you feel good. The students here are GREAT and there are so many activities and clubs that you can take part in, it's not even funny. There will be people here with your same dreams that can hook you up with anything you desire.

    Am learning a lot

This college is definitely preparing me for my future career as an accountant. The classes aren't too hard as long as you study, just like any good student should do. I've learned so many new things academically AND socially. Living on my own, starting my own social life, and balancing those between classes is hard work at first, but eventually they all find there rightful places in the end :)

If you're looking for a small--but not too small--school, GCSU is a great fit. I recognize people every day, even though I might not know them. I am very comfortable walking around campus; it has really become my home. If you're interested in Greek life, you'll definitely find it. I was really overwhelmed at first and felt like I was the only one who hadn't chosen to rush, but there are plenty of people who don't.

    Tips for prospective students

I was terrified to leave my family. I went to a small, private school where I had known everyone since elementary school, and the idea of having to go to college and make new friends was paralyzing. The good news: everyone else felt the same way. It's a big change and definitely takes some adjustment, but you're all in the same boat. It's easy to forget that you're here to learn, and it's very important to balance your social life with academics. My parents told me this a million times, but it took my own mistakes to actually teach me this lesson. Rule number one: go to class. I did all of my homework and got high Bs on my math tests last semester and ended up getting a C in the class because I skipped class and missed a test. Save skipping class for the days when you're sick or have to go out of town. Your professors couldn't care less about your attending; you're here for you. They aren't going to check up on you like they did in high school.

    Bang for the buck

People like to complain about the food, but I don't understand why. Sure, it's not as good as your mom's homemade meals, but for cafeteria food, it's not bad at all. The dorms are VERY nice; I never really appreciated them until I visited friends at other schools. There are countless free services, from the courtesy golf cart rides to the International Library Loan system at the library.

    Am enjoying being here

First semester was rough, but I think I would have had a hard time regardless of the school. There is always something to do; whether it's an activity that is being hosted by your dorm, or the Campus Activities Board, you always have options. The campus is easy to navigate, and I never have to walk more than 10 minutes to get to class. It's a very welcoming atmosphere, and the campus is beautiful.

    Am learning a lot

The classes have been great so far. I've been in a class as small as 15, and a class as big as 80, but on average, they tend to be around 25-30; it's like being in high school. Even in the bigger classes, it doesn't feel big. The professors are great, and very available and eager to help. Although I'm taking classes in subject that don't particularly interest me, I'm glad I chose a liberal arts school; I think it's good to at least be familiar with all disciplines.

Great for these types of students

Anyone really. The school is so diverse, from slackers to nerds. Everyone gets along and I believe you really will find yourself here.

    Tips for prospective students

STUDY. I'm serious. It is hard coming in from high school and being responsible enough to take care of yourself and go to school, and maybe even work. But, just balance your schedule out and always make time for homework. Education aside, it is a great environment to live in. Everyone on campus is super nice, especially the staff and they will help you in any way they can! PICK OUR SCHOOL! You won't regret it. I have a friend who went here the first two years and then transferred to UGA. The only reason she is staying there is for her more specific major, but she misses the family at GCSU.

    Bang for the buck

MAKE SURE you do not lose your Hope Scholarship. And as a freshman, please stay focused to keep it. GCSU is the third hardest school academically in Georgia, so just because it is small, doesn't mean it is easy. It isn't the most expensive school, but you want all the help you can get. Even if you don't have Hope, don't hesitate to look at the scholarships and financial aid offered because they will definitely help! And even though the dorms may seem expensive, the student housing around the area is about the same. Just remember, EVERYONE has loans, so don't let the price of school stop you from coming.

    Am enjoying being here

If I could rate this school higher than 5-stars, I would! It is such a small town, family environment, which most of us appreciate. There is always something going on for everyone. Even if you are not into the partying aspect of college, you actually have a hard time running into that stuff! It's kept completely separate and off campus. When you first think of Milledgeville, you almost think 'Where even is that?' but that is the best part. Everyone who has ever come to visit left wanting to stay longer! It's awesome!

    Am learning a lot

First of all, the class sizes are amazing and really give each student a chance to get to know their professor. This being said, even the classes that you would think are the most boring are still interesting and full of information. For example, I had a MWF class at 9am last semester with an older gentleman for a professor. All he did was come to class and talk with barely any notes, about History even! This was honestly one of the most fulfilling classes I've ever had. And somehow the information you learn in one class seems to come up in other classes a lot, which is definitely a plus!

Great for these types of students

Students wanting a medium sized public school with a private school feel.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved! If you choose to come here, you must must must get out of the dorms and go do stuff, whether it be the club downtown, or being involved with any of the student organizations. You will be much happier if you go out and meet people.

    Bang for the buck

GCSU really does have a great value for it's price. They just opened a brand new, huge, high-tech wellness center, the student lounge is so nice, and all of the faculty are really focused on teaching you as much as possible. There are so many programs and services available for the students, and most of them are free! But what you do pay for--meal plan, housing, and tuition--GCSU has some of the best prices.

    Am enjoying being here

I live in a dorm, (oh excuse me, residence hall) and I really like it. The campus is just the right size, not too big, not too small. You can walk anywhere you want to go, and if you can't walk there, there is a shuttle bus that runs all day, all week. The key is to do more than sit in your room all day; the more people you meet, the happier you will be!

    Am learning a lot

The smaller class sizes allow you to interact with your teachers and get help if you need it. All of my professors are great; they challenge you, but have realistic expectations.

Great for these types of students

As said earlier, the best two programs the college has to offer are its nursing and education students. Highly recommended programs!

    Tips for prospective students

If you can, do not take the College Algebra course unless you are fully confident in your algebra skills. This course is mainly done online (there are teachers, but you only get them one hour a week and they do not teach you every section in the book). I made an A in the course, so it can definitely be done- but it was extremely and unnecessarily difficult.

    Bang for the buck

The two programs that I have gotten the most feedback on are the Nursing and Education programs. Apparently this college is VERY serious about giving students quality schooling and LOTS of field time- for example, I am a freshman education student and have already begun taking classes relative to my major and have gotten 15 hours of experience in a local elementary classroom. This school is definitely worth the time and money required to attend it.

    Am enjoying being here

I am so excited to be a part of GA College. The size of the student body is perfect for me; it is big enough to feel like a large college, but small enough that I pass people I know in the cafeteria or on the way to class every day. The campus is beautiful, the dorms have been great, and I love the historic feel of the small town. The school really went all out to make sure students could feel accepted and involved- I have done so many activities outside of classes that have helped me meet other students. I am a part of the Salsa and Swing Dancing clubs, and enjoy going to various churches, acoustic nights, and all kinds of other events on campus! Georgia College has been a blast!

    Am learning a lot

I have already learned so much while attending GA College. I have only completed 17 hours, as I am in my freshman year, but I am amazed at how rigorous the classes have been. Though they have been difficult and have required much work, I have been more than satisfied with the standards they set for students and the teachers they give to help all the students achieve their best.

    Anyone.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Most students and professors believe it is bad luck to step on the bobcat face located on the front campus, and usually skirt around it.

    What to do for fun

Play intramural sports, go downtown to party or just hang out, throw the frisbee on front campus, attend basketball games, and most importantly meet awesome people.

    Tips for prospective students

Talk to your professors and the students in your classes. Do not be afraid; it is difficult to attend here and keep your grades up, but if you do you will never regret it.

    In three sentences

GCSU has incredible professors who know what they are teaching and care about the students in their classes. The college is small enough to know most of the people you pass by during the day, yet large enough to continue meeting new students. Overall, Georgia College is diverse, fun, and full of smart young adults.

    Campus Safety

currently, georgia college is the safest campus in georgia. it was just recently voted on. the campus security have blue light help buttons set up along the sidewalks by the dorms and the main campus. it directly patches you through to 911 officers. we also have a golf kart service called snap. they run almost every night from around eight at night to three in the morning. you call and let them know where you would like to be picked up and they'll take you to your destination safely.

    Greek Life

greek life is very popular at gc&su. my suitemates are in a sorority (zta) together and absolutely love it. the greek life here is actually pretty popular, but one doesn't feel left out if they aren't involved.

    Clubs and Activities

georgia college definitely takes advantage of sidewalk chalk to advertise new and exciting clubs and their activities. almost every night of the week there is something going on for people to do.

Great for these types of students

i think georgia college is great for all types of students. if you're into greek life, they have that. if you love art, there is plenty of clubs or opportunities for that. if you enjoy christian outreach program, they have great ministries. it's truly a great school for diversity.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

there is an echo spot outside russel audiotorium on main campus. if you stand in the center where the sidewalk cracks meet, you can literally talk and head yourself echo. it's a really neat spot on campus.

    Bang for the buck

georgia college is a little pricy, but for a public liberal arts school it's great. i love the campus.

    What to do for fun

most enjoy going downtown to party at capital. however, i am not into those sorts of things, so i mainly hang out in the dorms on those nights and have movie nights with friends. the movie theatre has great prices in the afternoon, but it is very small. haven't tried the bowling alley yet, but i hear they have specials.

    Food and Dining

the max dinging hall offers many choices, but they tire easily. it seems like they rotate the same foods each week on different days. world of wings in sanford hall is my favorite, though it is pricey. chick fil a does not have the greatest quality food or service. books and brew in the library has the best workers in the entire campus. they have awesome smoothies, too.

    Dorm Life

i've met some really great friends in the dorm, but they can be real irritating on the weekends if you don't party like everyone else. it's nearly impossible to get a good night's sleep on most thursdays, fridays and saturdays. of course, it may not be the same in every dorm.

    Academic Rigor

some classes require more than others. most classes will require quite a bit of outside reading.

    Tips for prospective students

make sure you have extracurriculars and community service hours logged before applying. i recommend the school to everyone.

    In three sentences

the college is superb in terms of student to teacher ratio. the most one has to walk to get to class is ten to fifteen minutes. the dorms are a great way to meet people but can be quite noisy.

the river, the greenway, bartram forest, plays, bars, new wellness center, there is so much.

the dining hall had a revamp, and there are several restaurants on campus, and restaurants around town that except the bobcat card.

    Dorm Life

the professors are really good at keeping you on your toes. this is no walk in the park, you will work, and you will learn.

    students that like diversity

    Food and Dining

the dining hall food isn't too bad for college food. there are some things that aren't too great, but overall it's pretty good.

    Dorm Life

i live in west campus (the village) so i'm off campus, but i still feel involved because we are all in one building and it's easy to visit your friends on another floor or just down the hall. another advantage is that it's also a bit quieter because you can shut your door, whereas dorm people share a room.

There are many clubs and activities. We have intramural sports which are fun. I recommend joining Residents Student Association (RSA) that way you get to meet a lot of other students that go the school.

Great for these types of students

This school is good for all types of students. Especially people who want to be nurses or teachers

The Bobcat Head on front campus is where you can find anyone. You can put up a hammock and just chill.

Georgia College is a really great school. There are a lot of teachers at this school and they make sure that you succeed. You can go to your professor at any time for any problem and they will listen and help. It is a safe environment and I would recommend this school to anyone who wants a good learning and social environment

    What to do for fun

Even though Milledgeville is a small town there is a lot to do . The wellness center has in inside pool which is heated. The DEN is a fun place to hang out. You can go to Pickle Barrel and sing Karaoke or go to Fun Zone and go skating. There is also Capital which is walking distance from campus

    Food and Dining

The food is pretty good and there is a lot to choose from. The dining hall was just redone and it is amazing.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are cozy and you make more friends and connections by staying in the dorms. The dorms have fun programs that make the dorm life more exciting.

    Academic Rigor

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you become friends with your teachers and your adviser because you will need them.

    Campus Safety

Our campus was rated the safest in the state. Which is a big honor. I never once felt threatened when I was walking around campus, even if it was night and I was walking by myself to the Max.

    Greek Life

I personally did not rush. What I hear from those in sororities and fraternities ranges from very bad to pretty good and rewarding. After attending GCSU for a year, I would like to have the connections that a sorority offers, but I am still glad that I didn't rush. It is not for everyone.

    Clubs and Activities

There are a wide range of activities offered! Anything from a foreign language group to outdoor sports groups. If what you would like is not offered, then a new club can be started up!

Great for these types of students

Georgia College and State is a very accepting school. We are a liberal Arts school, and encourage diversity. I am not diverse myself, but I enjoy activities that some have never tried and enjoy hearing about other students perspectives.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is an eco spot in front of Russel Hall. It is pretty cool, and I wouldn't have known about it if no one told me.

    Bang for the buck

College is expensive. Georgia College and State University is no exception, but it is better than some of the other schools offered in the state. The fact that if you have a meal plan, that they put money on your bobcat card helps a lot.

    What to do for fun

What to do for fun depends on what you are interested in, many like to go down town on Thursday nights. I personally enjoy going to Starbucks and hanging out with friends. The gym is also a very healthy option when trying to find something to do.

    Food and Dining

The food isn't that bad really. In the Max they usually have the same things though. So if I was to recommend something to change I would say to offer more options through out the week.

    Dorm Life

The dorms need thicker walls. You can hear anything and everything in the rooms around you. On the other hand, they are a great way to meet people and be close with others without having to live with them.

    Academic Rigor

As I said before college is there to be challenging, and this one is no different. The classes are very challenging, depending if you are strong in that subject or not. Even in my major, I am finding the classes to be very challenging. The classes are challenging, but they challenge you for a reason. They help to expand your brain, and you learn a lot!

    Tips for prospective students

Keep up with your work, and only take the amount of hours that you can handle. If you know you are bad in one subject, then don't take all of the classes you need to fulfill that requirement in one semester, spread them out. Enjoy your time in college, but know that you are there to learn.

    In three sentences

The campus is very appealing and adds to the charm of the school. Most of the teachers are nice and easy to deal with. Classes are hard, but they are there to teach, so it is well worth it!

    Dorm Life

The dorms are clean and extremely safe.

    Campus Safety

I give this rating because I believe that we have one the best campuses in regards to campus safety. Public Safety operates around the clock and are quick to respond to emergencies.

    Greek Life

As a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., I can honestly say that Greek Life on campus is great. Though there are 18 different fraternities and sororities total, we all work together with the same aim to give back to both our university and surrounding community.

    Clubs and Activities

There is so much to do on campus that there are no excuses for boredom or idleness. There are countless opportunities to get involved with extracurricular activities and there are also many way to give back through volunteering.

Great for these types of students

Georgia College is great for any student who would like a well-rounded education.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

One of the big traditions for Georgia College is walking under the pergola. The pergola is a domed archway on campus. The tradition is that as freshmen, we walk under it towards the inner campus, to symbolize us beginning a new chapter in regards to the start of our four years. Upon graduation, as seniors, we walk under it towards the outside world, to symbolize us leaving this chapter behind and being full prepared to take on the world before us.

    Bang for the buck

Georgia College is worth every penny! However, I give 4 stars instead of 5 because with any institution there are those student fees and the like that no one has a particular yearning for.

    What to do for fun

People hear the word Milledgeville and determine that there is NO way there is anything to do for fun. In my experience, it's all about who you hang out with. With that in mind, fun is never too hard to find.

    Food and Dining

Ok now we all know that too much of anything will get old and redundant really quickly. That is the primary reason for my rating. There are many food options available, whether they be in the dining hall or at the various eateries around campus (i.e. Chic-fila, Subway, etc.). However, after eating the same thing for 3 plus years, of course one will feel the need for something new.

    Dorm Life

In my opinion, dorm living at Georgia College is one of the best that I've seen. From personal experience, living in a dorm provided me with immediate interactions with those around me. It's pretty easy to make friends and quickly adjust to college living when there are activities in place to make the process a whole lot smoother. Also, when you're surrounded my peers who have similar goals to yours, how can one not succeed?

    Academic Rigor

Georgia College is currently the 2nd hardest school to get in to in the state of Georgia, below Georgia Tech. This is for due reason. The curriculum is meant to challenge us and to force us to either change our way of thinking or think analytically about our values and viewpoints. It is also rigorous in order to provide us with the well-rounded education and knowledge that we will need as a future graduate.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are looking for a small campus environment with countless opportunities to do your part, and make your mark on campus and in the community, Georgia College is definitely the place for you! That is spoken from true experience!

    In three sentences

My time here at Georgia College has been one of the best. They say that it is THE premier school in the state of Georgia in regards to Liberal Arts. I would have to definitely agree.

It's in a small town, with everything within walking distance except for the Walmart. FANTASTIC new Wellness Center. Great atmosphere (really nice people).

    Campus Safety

This campus is VERY safe! It was ranked TOP TEN in saftey! You won't have to fear for your life, and if you do, there are ways to ensure your safety.

    Clubs and Activities

Badminton, Volleyball, Basketball, Theatre, and much more!

Great for these types of students

If you want a school away from the big city, but don't want it in the middle of nowhere, come here. All students are welcome, and you'll feel at home in no time.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

I don't know of any, sorry.

    Bang for the buck

This school is good on price. If you don't have a ton of money but want a school that's recognized for academics and is respected, this school's your man. There are many ways to earn your tuition and housing, and the admission's staff is ALWAYS willing to help. You just have to try.

    What to do for fun

You can join many activities, like intermediate sports or actual college sports. You can lounge around at the Starbucks at GA college or in the den. There are concerts and parties, and a Wal-mart about 15 minutes away!

    Food and Dining

I don't have to worry about Freshman 15 because it's not as if this school has hundreds of cafeterias. It has one cafeteria, and the food is great! If you're feeling healthy and want a salad or sub, GA college has it! If you're in the mood for pizza, or burgers and fries, they've got it too! Soup? No problem! Pasta? Check! It's small, but really great and I LOVE the food!

    Dorm Life

The dorms are VERY spacy and I just LOVE the beds! I once went to a week-long event at a certain college, and did not sleep at ALL the whole week! The beds were just so dang hard! But at Georgia College, the beds are just right, and when I laid on them, I felt sleep instantly, haha!

    Academic Rigor

Academically, this school is really respected! I haven't been to a class yet, but I'll let you know soon.

    Tips for prospective students

Visit the schools you THINK you're interested in! You never know, you just might actually hate the school in person. Visit your top choice college A LOT. If you liked it the first time, you shouldn't be tired of it by the fifth time you've visited! Ask questions! If you don't ask, you'll never know. People can't read minds, so if you're dying to know something, ASK IT!

    In three sentences

Georgia College is great for going green; they built a green gym that adjusts the lighting with the sun! It's away from the big city, but it's not placed in the middle of nowhere; everything you need is close by! The admissions staff are absolutely fantastic; they answered my questions when I had them, and made me feel welcome anytime!

    Campus Safety

Our campus is rated as one of the safest in Georgia (probably because Georgia College is in the zone of 3 different police stations)! We have an organization called SNAP (Student Night Auxillary Patrol) that drives around (starting a night time and closes at certain times that vary on different days) and you can call and tell them your location and they will pick you up & take you to the library, your dorms, outside your apartments, downtown, and etc. We also have emergency boxes located around the campus and you can press a button and it will dial the police in case of an emergency.

    Greek Life

There are 7 sororities (Alpha Delti Pi, Zeta Tau Alpha, Delta Zeta, Phi Mu, Kappa Delta, Alpha Kappa Alpha, & Zeta Phi Beta) and 7 fraternities (Pi Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Phi, Theta Chi, Pi Kappa Phi, and Kappa Alpha, Alpha Phi Alpha, Lamda Sigma Upsilon) on campus. It is a great way to meet people and it helps to get involved with the school. It is also affordable!

    Clubs and Activities

There are over 160 student organizations, 14 sororities & fraternities, year round recreational sports located in West Campus, community service programs and etc offered at GCSU. There are 6 intramural sports, 6 club sports, and other special events like poker tournaments, table tennis tournaments, billiard tournaments, and etc. It is very easy to join things and get involved on campus!

Great for these types of students

Georgia College & State is a liberal arts university so it is great for students looking for that type of well-rounded education. It is also very home-y and safe so it is perfect for the worried parent and for the student that wants to get away and receive a college experience (mandatory for freshman to live in the dorms or campus apartments). It also has wonderful nursing and teaching cohorts (programs).

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Deep Roots Festival is a music and arts festival that comes to downtown Milledgeville every fall that usually falls on the same weekend as parents weekend. Local restuarants and stores have tents set up with food and different clothing and art items for sale. There is also a car show and bands come and play on the stage that is set up at night.

    Bang for the buck

There are many benefits that Georgia College students receive as a part of their tuition. The newly renovated wellness center, extensive library, upgraded technology available (a student can rent things like video cameras, ipads, digital cameras, and etc), quality dorm rooms, quality food options, free admission to sporting events, SNAP service (Student Night Auxillary Patrol, golf cart transportation around the campus to dorm & apartment areas), and many more!

    What to do for fun

Many people will join Greek Life or other student organization for fun. Hot Thursday is something Dorm Life does that gives a variety of activities to do on friday nights. There are also variety of sportings events, intramurals, concerts, plays and etc that are offered at Georgia College.

    Food and Dining

The Max, previously named Saga, is only main dining hall. It offers a variety of different food options like the Italian line, home cooked line, breakfast line, sandiwch line, Asian line, burger line, vegetarian & gluten-free options, and much more. We also have Chick-fil-A, Einstein's Bagels, and Subway on campus. Our student ID cards also allow us to eat at other local restaurants in Milledgeville.

    Dorm Life

Compared to other schools, the dorms here are wonderful! The regular dorms are set up with a 2 person suite conjoined with a bathroom and another 2 person suite (so only 4 people share a bathroom compared to a whole hall sharing one). They are fairly spacious and I found that it was so easy to meet people that lived in my hall.

    Academic Rigor

Georgia College is a moderately difficult school to be accepted to and most student here were A's & B's students in high school. Sometimes your work load can pile up so it's immortant to work on major assignments like papers and studying for tests early. Most of the finals here are cummulative so it is important to keep up with the things you have completed during the semester and always ask teachers for help if you find yourself confused.

    Tips for prospective students

Be open to meeting new people, new freshman are in the exact same position as you & it is so easy to make friends! The classes are small enough for your teacher to know you on a first basis, so I encourage you to talk to them and ask for help whenever you need it. Be sure that you manage your time, it can be easy to get caught up in the social aspect of college so make sure you have a balanced schedule so you have enough time to complete your school work.

    In three sentences

Georgia College & State University is very much a home away from home! It offers a variety of courses and activities for students to do. It is the perfect school for any type of student!

    Campus Safety

Campus safety has not had any bad reports in the two years that I have attended this school.

    Greek Life

The Greek life here is great for it to be a small campus. They are constantly involved with the school and other students. They are always putting on events open to the public and keeping the community involved.

Great for these types of students

GC&SU is great for any type of student since it does offer so many activities. It is a liberal arts college that includes greek life and sports. What more could you need?

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The entire campus and downtown Milledgeville is decorated beautifully during Christmas. It made me feel like I was home even when I was away at school.

    What to do for fun

Milledgeville is a great historic district. Lake Sinclair is within a few miles of the campus. There is also a downtown area filled with restaurants and interesting shops.

    Food and Dining

Georgia College recently rebuilt their dining hall this year!

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved. The Greek life is great for a liberal arts college, there are several sports within the school and intramurals, and many clubs based on your interest. It is very easy to find a place to fit in here!

    In three sentences

Not only does Georgia College have the most beautiful campus in Georgia but the location is perfectly settled in the middle of the state. The opportunity at this college is endless with several different student organizations, intramurals, and an enthusiastic Greek life. The professors, advisors, and staff of Georgia College do an extremely well job of making their students feel informed and important.

    Campus Safety

The safety around the campus is great. SNAP is golf cart taxi thing that students can use at night to get downtown or to the library and back to the dorms. It is really nice to know that you do not have to walk places in the dark by yourself and that you can call someone to come pick you up. Also there are a lot of police officers throughout the town, which is very comforting. If there is ever a problem or you are in trouble, you can look around the corner and you will be able to find an officer. There are also emergency buttons located on campus and over where the dorms are located, so you can hit the button and someone will be there to help. I feel very safe at my college.

    Clubs and Activities

Clubs and activities are great ways to become involved and meet so many new and different people. If you come to Georgia College you have to join something or else you will be missing out on a lot of fun. These things give you other things to do with your time other than school work and allow you to relax from time to time.

Great for these types of students

Students who like the small town feel and knowing people when you walk to class will love this school. Georgia College has a way of letting you know that you are important to the college and are part of the whole thing. It is very refreshing to know that you have close relationships with so many people.

    Bang for the buck

I definitely think students at Georgia College get what they paid for. The quality of education is fantastic and the experience is something I wouldn't trade for the world. The amount of relationships and knowledge I have gained are very important to me and have helped me develop as a person.

    What to do for fun

To take a break from studying I would always hang out with my friends. We would meet up outside of the dorms and just relax by the reflection pool or out on front campus. We would also go down to the den and play ping pong or pool. Downtown Milledgeville is a short walk from the dorms, so I would walk to shops or a restaurant to take a break from work. Being involved in inter-mural sports is something that you can also do. My friends and I would go to the inter-mural fields on West Campus and play Frisbee or soccer and also cheer our other friends on in games.

    Food and Dining

The dining and food at Georgia College is something that I have no complaints about. I was always pleased with the selections of food and the quality was always nice. You just have to make sure you make healthy choices when you go to the dining hall because there are a lot of tempting unhealthy decisions and this tests how responsible you are with your own health.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is something that every student should experience. It was definitely a blast for me. It forced me to put myself out there and meet new people and I made a lot of friends because I lived in the dorms. You will have to learn to respect others and to take care of yourself as well as your own things.

    Academic Rigor

The professors at Georgia College are definitely chosen with care. Each of them are there to make sure you leave with the information that you need to continue on to the next level of your education. The class sizes are also very nice because they are never too big to where you feel lost or scared to ask a question. You are always challenged within academics, and this is perfect because it keeps you on your toes and ready for the next thing that you need to master.

    Tips for prospective students

When you come to Georgia College, make sure that you get involved with something other than academics. It is important to focus on grades and learning but you also have to meet other people and get involved in things that will make you a better person. Never be afraid to ask for help or go to tutoring because you will only hurt yourself by not utilizing the facilities that are available.

    In three sentences

Georgia College is definitely a one of a kind university because of the beauty it has to offer with the campus and the quality learning that takes place within the classes. The size of the classes are perfect and allow the student to have a well rounded relationship with the professors and to interact with other classmates as well. Also the clubs and activities that this college has to offer is endless and will definitely make you feel like you are a part of the school and not just a student who is attending and is uninvolved.

    Campus Safety

Probably one of the safest places ever. I've never had any problems regarding safety. Milledgeville is under 7 different police jurisdictions, and there are plenty of resources on campus to ensure students safety. The campus is well-lit, has emergency call boxes everywhere, sends electronic messages in case of an emergency. There's even a free resource that will pick you up and drive you around campus any time of night if you are uncomfortable with walking across campus in the middle of the night.

    Clubs and Activities

There are dozens of clubs across campus, and they hold activities and events weekly. It's really easy to start your own club too, if you don't see one that's right for you. It's a great way to make friends and get involved on campus.

Great for these types of students

Students that prefer smaller classes and campuses, helpful and friendly faculty, and outgoing and personable students.

    Bang for the buck

College is expensive, but GCSU makes sure every dollar you pay goes directly towards your education. You don't get hit with any fees in the middle of the semester for technology or anything like that-it's all included in your tuition. Depending on how many classes you have and where you look, textbooks can be a little expensive (but that's true for any college). The financial aid and business offices are great and go above and beyond when helping you finance your education. They provide with plenty of resources to help you get as much aid as possible, whether through the government, the school itself, or outside sources.

    What to do for fun

About a block away from campus is downtown Milledgeville, and that is where most of the action happens. There are restaurants, bars (for those 21 and over), stores, a club with music and dancing, the campus black box theater and more. there is also a lake about 10-15 miles away where a lot of students go to spend the weekend or hang out with their friends. On any day, you can find students sleeping in hammocks, playing Frisbee on front campus, or sitting in front of the dorms with their buddies.

    Food and Dining

The dining hall's food is not too bad. It's a buffet- style setup, so there's plenty to eat. And there are plenty of restaurants on campus, downtown, and within 10 miles if you want a change of pace or a new place to eat. The staff is great.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are really clean. The staff is really cool and helpful. They are always on hand to answer questions or help you if you are having problems in you room. It is definitely a new experience meeting and living with new people. But that's how I met some amazing people and made new friends. Housing always creates fun activities to get students out and to meet one another.

    Academic Rigor

Some of the courses are definitely challenging, but there are so many resources available on campus to help you if you are struggling in any area. Class sizes are small, and the faculty is really helpful. They get to know you by name and face, and it definitely helps in class to build a relationship with them. I haven't had any problems going to see a professor during their office hours and asking them questions or telling them my concerns. Don't be afraid to talk to them-that's what they're there for!!

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely check out the campus by taking a tour and looking at the website. Don't be afraid ask questions- there are so many people there ready and willing to help you make the right decision about your education.

    In three sentences

Overall, GCSU is a great place. the campus is beautiful, the faculty is friendly and helpful, the class sizes are small, and the students are committed to getting a higher education. No matter your personality or expectations about college, you will absolutely find that you'll fit right in here.

    Campus Safety

Excellent safety. 5 police districts cover the campus.

    Greek Life

    Greek life is VERY popular.

    What to do for fun

Milledgeville is a very, very small town. There are more churches than anything else in the town. If you are a party person, this may not be the best school for you although there are certainly places to party in Milledgeville (I have no experience in this facet of school). There are two lakes within 20 minutes of campus and UGA is only an hour drive north on 441. You can always find things to do on campus, you just have to get involved.

    Food and Dining

The food is still cafeteria food. You cannot escape that. However, the Max (dining hall) was just recently renovated as well as received new cooking staff. The food is good the majority of the time, you just have to know what to look for. Piece of advice, avoid the pork chops...

    Dorm Life

Excellent dorms. I lived in the farthest dorm away from campus my freshman year and still only had a 15 minute walk to my classes. The dorms are very well kept and are spacious. They are suite style, two people per room with 4 people sharing a bathroom. Although the suites are either all male or all female, the dorms are co-ed. The atmosphere in the dorms is very quiet. My floor was peaceful the majority of the time minus the random party group that came through on the occasional Friday.

    Academic Rigor

Compared to Georgia Tech, This school is MUCH easier. The atmosphere is much more relaxed and the academics follow this. Yes, you have difficult classes, but on average, the classes can be a walk in the park.

    Tips for prospective students

This is a fantastic school. Many students begin at Georgia College and transfer into the school of their choice. The average class size is around 25-30 students but I nearly all of my classes consist of 20 to 25 students, and a few even less than that! Even in my core classes. I thoroughly enjoy this school.

    In three sentences

GCSU is the third most difficult school to get into in Georgia. It is nestled in the small town of Milledgeville, GA and you pass no where on the way to the campus. It is a small school that is known for small class sizes and its beautiful small-town campus.

    Campus Safety

GCSU is a very safe campus. The campus is within 5 different police districts, and it is constantly patrolled.

    Greek Life

I know a lot of people who are in fraternities and sororities, and they tell me all about Greek life. Greek life at GCSU is much different than Greek life at other schools. While there are parties, they are much more controlled. The Greek organizations are very beneficial to those who participate in them. They are also very well priced compared to the fraternities and sororities at other schools.

    Clubs and Activities

There are more than 170 clubs and organizations, and there are always activities around the campus and in the dorms that are very enjoyable.

    Bang for the buck

The school is fairly priced for all of the amenities and quality of education offered.

    What to do for fun

There is never a dull moment at GCSU. The Campus Activities Board, Resident Student Association, and various other clubs are constantly hosting events for the students to enjoy. If students don't feel like attending events, they can hang out with their friends in the dorm, or they can enjoy the many restaurants and stores in downtown Milledgeville, which is just a short walk away.

    Food and Dining

The dining hall is good for a while, but it tends to be the same food every day, It is easy to get sick of it. You need to make the most of it every day and try new things, or it will get old.

    Dorm Life

I absolutely loved my time living in the dorm! I wouldn't trade dorm-life for anything.

    Academic Rigor

The classes are not easy, but with the right amount of effort, one can earn a good grade and learn a vast amount of information.

    Tips for prospective students

Live in the dorms for as long as you can because dorm-life is a great way to meet your fellow students, while learning how to interact with others. These personal interactions can be beneficial when searching for a job.

    In three sentences

Georgia College & State University is a very culturally diverse university. This university allows students to obtain a private-school level education for a public school price. The teachers are well-qualified, and they take the time to help the students one-on-one.

    Campus Safety

Public Safety works wonders! :) The Milledgeville pd works with the school. They have this night service called SNAP... Let's say you're on campus and it's dark and you don't feel safe walking alone, call them and one of the volunteers will pick you up and take you to your room.

    What to do for fun

sports, tons of clubs, tons of volunteer work, and if there isn't something that you want to participate it, you can start your own organization!

    Food and Dining

Eh, okay. Usually the only people that have a meal plan are freshman & sophomores.

    Dorm Life

Great! Although I am not international, I lived in the international dorm for 2 years (Sanford). It was really interesting to get to know people from all over the years.

    Academic Rigor

It's college, some things are difficult and require a little more studying than others, but there's an amazing tutoring center.

    Tips for prospective students

Talk to you teachers! They want you to succeed!!!

    In three sentences

Georgia College is a great school to intend for those that enjoy have small intimate classroom settings. The teachers are really great to get along with for the most part. Minority students however, may find it hard to fit in because the number of minority students is so low.

    Campus Safety

Campus does appear to be relatively safe. Though I was always aware of my surroundings walking alone at night, I did not ever feel like any harm would come upon me. There are emergency phones all over campus and SNAP is always available to give you a ride (even from the bars/club downtown if you live in the dorms). I had to park pretty far away from campus one night and SNAP picked me up without me even asking or calling for a ride and drove me right to my car.

Great for these types of students

This is a great school for motivated students who want personal relationships with professors. This is definitely the place for outgoing people, people who like to attend or be involved in a lot of activities, and people who love to make friends.

    What to do for fun

There are some good restaurants downtown, a small movie theater and mall. There are ALWAYS activities on campus and for the apartment buildings and dorms and intramural sports. The Den is a really nice lounge/game area that always kept me and my friends entertained.

    Food and Dining

There is a pretty big variety of food to choose from so that is nice. Even being a vegatarian, I was able to find something to eat everyday (it may have only been pizza if the vegatarian bar was closed but food nonetheless). They will accomodate special diets. I had a friend with a gluten allergy and they made food especially for her. The food is not always good but sometimes it is fantastic. There is always good desserts.

    Dorm Life

The apartments are pretty great. It's nice to have your own room especially when you have no idea how amiable your roommates will be. Maintenance will take care of anything that needs to be fixed. Sandellas is very convenient and so is a pool and awesome gym. The only drawback is the thin walls; if you have noisy neighbors then they might really bother you. Overall, the pros outweigh the cons and even if you have noisy neighbors it can be dealt with to enjoy such a nice apartment.

    Academic Rigor

Some classes were very difficult and I did struggle through them. But, for the most part the teachers are awesome and made class fun or at least bearable.

    In three sentences

GC is a wondeful school, beautiful campus, great courses and teachers. The apartments and amenities make it very fun to live there. It is a small campus which is nice but has access to a great library.

Great for these types of students

This is a great school for a large variety of students. I, myself plan to graduate in four years as a Mechanical Engineer. I would have to turn down most liberal arts colleges almost immediately based on my major, but at Georgia College I have a great transfer program that allows me to study under their pre-engineering program. Plus, this school has good reputation for those that care about that, and it offers great well-rounded education.

    Bang for the buck

The money is definitely worth the education. This is the kind of school where the smaller class sizes allows for more one-on-one time with your professors. Furthermore, the is a great recreational center that I will love using. When I think college, this is the school that comes to mind.

    What to do for fun

The college is in a great location to hang out with all of your friends. It doesn't have the humongous attendance numbers like other colleges have, so it's much easier to have that moment of peace and relaxation whenever you need it.

    Food and Dining

The food is exactly what I want at a college. No matter what your meal plan is, once you enter the cafeteria you can eat as much as you want within that visit. The food is of good quality as well, and it makes me feel like they puts some effort into what I consume.

    Dorm Life

The residence halls are everything college should be. I particularly love the fountain right outside mine that gives a wonderful feel like I am at home.

    Academic Rigor

This college is in the top five academically in the state. I am using the college to study my first two years in an environment that is much more focused on the individual. I expect my education to grow immensely here.

    Tips for prospective students

This a great school for many unique reasons. It has a little bit of something for everyone, and in the state of Georgia it is the only public liberal arts university.

    In three sentences

This is a great school even without ever personally visiting the campus. The insider tips I get from my friends only make me love it more. I look forward to spending valued time at my school.

    Campus Safety

There haven't been any safety issues as long as I've been here.

    Greek Life

I'm part of a sorority on campus and I love it! Greek life is a great way to make friends and be part of the school.

    Clubs and Activities

Some of the clubs are really fun but many of them are no longer available to join.

Great for these types of students

Students who want a smaller class setting and professors who actually know their name

    What to do for fun

Try to get involved because it helps you get to know people. There's usually activities and things going on that are interesting.

    Food and Dining

The Max's food is not very good. But at least there's a lot of it. Do not get the unlimited meal plan.

    Academic Rigor

Some teachers are worse than others but overall, it isn't too bad.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you check the teachers on ratemyprofessor.com because your advisor will be able to switch your classes around before school starts if you have a bad teacher.

    In three sentences

The campus is beautiful and the teachers are all really helpful. However, it is a little difficult to get involved with some of the organizations. I'm still very glad that I made the decision to come here.

    Campus Safety

The campus is a very safe place to be. GCSU is considered to have the safest campus in Georgia. They even have there own police force in addition to the Milledgeville police.

    Greek Life

The greek life is overall is pretty good. They are very active and do many things. The only downside is that it is very small and there are not that many chapters here and guys can't rush until they have 12 credit hours.

    Clubs and Activities

There are an extreme variety of clubs and organizations that exist on campus. Weather from religious to sports to hobbies they probably have it.

Great for these types of students

It is good for students who like a small classroom size and like a small environment to live in.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There are no unusual traditions on campus but there are plenty of locations on and near campus. The most notable one would be that the old governor's mansion is right next to campus and there are many activities that occur there.

    Bang for the buck

This is probably the best thing about this college. You get a very good liberal arts education for a very affordable price.

    What to do for fun

The downtown area is nice and small. There is a lake that is near campus where people go to fish, ride boats or just have fun. Overall there are many things to do down in Milledgeville.

    Food and Dining

The main source of food is the MAX, it is okay but can get old after a while. There are also other dinning areas on campus such as Subway, Chick-Fil-A, Einstein Brothers, and several others.

    Dorm Life

Overall the dorms tend to be pretty good, all of the on campus dorms are suite style and have two people per room mostly. There are some apartments that are on campus as well.

    Academic Rigor

Some classes are harder than others. It all depends on who you have as a professor and what you are taking.

    Tips for prospective students

There are many organizations and activities to get involved with on campus, I would recommend getting heavily involved with one. There are also a writing center and a help center for people who need help with school, I strongly recommend using them.

    In three sentences

Overall this is a good school for people who like a small environment. Overall that classes are good and the professors care about their students. The school will also try to help you with anything that you may need.

    Campus Safety

A big highlight of GCSU is campus safety. First of all you have a number of police that drive around town and campus, both actual campus police and local ones as well. Also scattered around campus are emergency buttons that quickly summon authorities if one is ever in trouble. Along with said buttons around campus, you also have two emergency buttons in each dorm room in case you encounter trouble in there. Finally on weekdays the school offers a service called SNAP, where student volunteers drive golf carts and over rides during the night to help students safely around campus.

    Bang for the buck

GCSU is the only public liberal arts college in Georgia. What this college delivers is a private school feel and level of education at a public school price. It definitely delivers above and beyond for the price and is worth every cent.

    What to do for fun

GCSU is a small college in a small town. Because of this, some of the activities can be limited. You have a few clubs downtown that cater to the college crowd that can be quite fun however, and GCSU also holds a plethora of events for fun during the year. The campus itself is also very beautiful, so hanging out with friends on front campus for say a picnic lunch is always a fun day.

    Food and Dining

The main dining hall, The Max has a fair amount of options. There's a breakfast bar open during all meals that is fairly well stocked, and several different 'restaurants' that serve different meals, for example you have Italian, a deli, vegetarian options, etc. Despite this sometimes the food can wear on you and options will be wanted. Luckily GCSU has several options to sate your need to change! They're all over campus and are also convenient when you don't feel like making your way to the dining hall.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is great! First of all you can have single or double rooms, so if you really want to live by yourself it's a viable option. The best part about the dorms though is the private restrooms. You share with another dorm attached, but this is hardly a problem. Each room has their own sink and tons of counter space. Not only this but the toilet and shower are in separate rooms so you don't have to wait on one person, say, brushing their teeth for you to use the restroom. The dorms are very clean and nicely furnished, and the rooms are quite spacey for a dorm. Beyond this the community advisers also hold many events to keep dorm life interesting, ranging from ice cream parties to video game competitions and even haunted houses.

    Academic Rigor

Many of the classes at GCSU require a good amount of studying and work. While this may be the case, there are also a ton of tutoring options for students to employ if they are struggling in a class. One can get help in not only every subject, but with their essays as well! Also because of the small class sizes, many students can communicate personally with teachers to see what they need to work on.

    Tips for prospective students

My tips for prospective students here would be get use to small town living. GCSU has around 6000 students, and while it leads to a very intimate learning environment it also shows how small a town Milledgeville is. While it does have a somewhat lively downtown life during the weekends, it's nothing close to bigger college towns or cities. Be ready to relax some days instead of going out and doing a ton of different things!

    In three sentences

GCSU is a great small college and perfect for people wanting to come into the college experience and not feel overwhelmed. It helps you acclimate to college life in a great, not to mention safe environment. The whole staff is extremely welcoming and helpful, making sure students have the resources they need to succeed out int the real world.

    Campus Safety

Rated safest in Georgia, I believe. You never have to worry about anything getting stolen. The campus police are friendly and willing to help with anything. They aren't out to get you.

    Greek Life

There are a handful of sororities and fraternities. They are present but not prominent.

    Clubs and Activities

Tons of opportunities to get involved, no matter what your interest.

Great for these types of students

Best for those who are driven and motivated. The professors really challenge you in the best way possible. You will make friends for life.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is Hanging of the Greens during Christmas where the whole campus is lit up. The Deep Roots festival during the fall attracts people from all over middle Georgia. There is lots of food and crafts, and a huge concert at night that all takes place downtown.

    Bang for the buck

Very affordable for all that you get.

    What to do for fun

Someone is always throwing a frisbee, slack-lining, or lounging in a hammock on front campus. There is a brand-new Wellness Center fitness facility with an indoor pool and rock-climbing wall. Downtown Milledgeville offers many unique bars and restaurants.

    Food and Dining

Food is sub-par. But it's a great atmosphere at the Max to catch up with friends and hang-out.

    Dorm Life

It's a close-knit community. The dorms are huge and new compared to most in Georgia. It's very easy to make friends through all the planned and unplanned events.

    Academic Rigor

It's challenging, but there are SO many opportunities for free tutoring. The classes are small, so you can build close relationships with your professors.

    Tips for prospective students

Make your essay really stand out by including any unique experiences you've had.

    In three sentences

It's a medium-size school with an ideal location where you can easily travel to various cities in Georgia on weekends. You make friends easily with different types of people. The small class sizes are intimate and conducive for an optimum, lasting education.

    Campus Safety

I have never heard of anything bad happening to anyone here, we actually won the safest campus in Georgia or the Southeast last year. We have police constantly cruising and SNAP which has been a savior for late night trips to the library, they are our campus safety officers and they also provide rides all over the place after dark.

    Greek Life

I am currently involved in Greek Life, I am a Kappa Delta and the current secretary. It has by far been the best decision I've made, the Greek Life is huge here and is a great way to make friends. And for me has been a great way to learn new skills(being secretary) and get involved in intermural sports since we have a team for every sport.

    Clubs and Activities

Every single one of my friends is in a club, and it is active on campus. It is a great learning experience and empowering to know you are so involved. I am a member of the Student advancement of Management, a club associated with my major and we get to meet all sorts of people that help us choose a career.

Great for these types of students

Students that dislike big class sizes, or big campuses scare them. And students with an open mind, because this is a liberal arts school.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Our most unusual tradition is not stepping on the bobcats on front campus, it is supposedly unlucky. My favorite tradition is deep roots festival every october, it is the same weekend at family weekend. All the streets are closed off and there are vendors our and just a ton of fun.

    Bang for the buck

I pay way less than my friends at UGA and I love my school more than they do. I have made new friends and broadened my horizons and really grown up and I feel that I was meant to go to school here.

    What to do for fun

For fun I hang out with my friends downtown, or workout at our new gym, and my favorite is crafting with my roommates! Also every week we eat downtown at one of our favorite restaurants, $2 sushi at Asian Bistro is the best!

    Food and Dining

The Max is our brand new dining facility and is fantastic. It was so good, I put on the freshman 15, but it was worth it. It was great last year, and if I had money to pay for swipes this year I would get them!

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is great here! Every dorm is a family and the RA's really help you get involved and meet people are really care about you. The dorms are coed and are a fun and warm environment, no cheesiness intended! I met my best friend in my freshman dorm.

    Academic Rigor

Academic rigor overall compared to other universities is not as strenuous. We have small class sizes and very personal professors overall so they are willing to help. I have experienced however in the business school, not the same personal vibe. It has caused me to consider changing my major.

    Tips for prospective students

My first tip for any student is to always look up professors on rateyourprofessor.com because you get real student opinions of the professors. More specifically for this campus would be to join clubs on campus because it is a small campus and I believe you would get bored and not enjoy campus to its fullest potential if you didn't. Also a tip some might think is common sense or dumb, is to live near campus(walking distance) because parking is non-exsistent.

    In three sentences

I absolutely love the campus culture and vibe. Its a smaller campus but you get more one on one time with teachers. And the city of Milledgeville is one of a kind, and you can walk anywhere you'd like to visit in town!

    Campus Safety

I have never felt unsafe on campus. At night, SNAP (a community program) will be available on-call to take you back to your dorm or to campus via golf cart, and there are emergency call boxes all along the main pathways to and from campus. In addition, there are emergency call buttons inside all the dorm rooms in case of emergency.

    What to do for fun

On the weekends, several people take the one hour trip up to the University of Georgia if they prefer the party scene. However, Milledgeville has a quaint downtown area with many shops, and there is a nice park nearby. Out of the immediate college area, there is also a small mall, a movie theatre, a roller rink, and many other commodities.

    Food and Dining

The food at The Max is, for the most part, delicious. My only complaint is that the food served can get a little repetitive. However, there are many places on campus where you can get food with the dining dollars that accompany the meal plan (e.g. Chic-fil-a, Subway, Einstein's Bagels).

    Dorm Life

My experience in the dorms has been a pleasant one. The people on my hall all speak to one another, and my community advisor is particularly friendly. You have the choice to live with a roommate or by yourself, but I would recommend having a roommate because of the bonds forged through living with someone.

    Academic Rigor

I went to a fairly challenging high school and took rigorous courses, so I do not find the course material to be overly challenging. However, you will have to study, and you will have to be dedicated. Good grades are not handed out; you must earn them.

    Tips for prospective students

Georgia College is looking for students with a strong sense of community and an openness towards the world and those within it. They want you to be able to discuss topics and to take in what others say as well, furthering your understanding. It is what you would expect from a liberal arts school.

    In three sentences

Georgia College is a school centered in the field of liberal arts, meaning that many, if not all, classes aim to take a broader focus on the topics being taught at the college. Professors attempt to relate course material to all walks of life, especially within the sociological and English fields. Community, unity, and solidarity are strongly focused upon.

    Campus Safety

Number 1 in Campus Safety in the state of Georgia and with good reason, those guys are on point.

    Greek Life

They are not obnoxious, they are there, but its not in your face and problematic.

    Clubs and Activities

There are a lot of opportunities to get involved on campus, the only reason I am giving it four stars instead of five is because I have two jobs and have been unable to take advantage of those opportunities.

Great for these types of students

The hardworking, fun loving positive student

    Bang for the buck

It's pricey, but financial aid has got you covered, and the experience alone is so worth it.

    What to do for fun

Like I said downtown is right there off campus, and there seems to be always something to do through the school

    Food and Dining

There are a lot of great options for food if you're not really feeling the cafeteria, like Chick Fil A and Subway. And Downtown is within walking distance with a Barberitos right there and a couple of Asian restaurants. Eating at the Brick is a religious experience, even if the service isn't great at times.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life isn't for everyone, but there are a lot of great options. If you like to have your own space, I highly recommend the Village.

    Academic Rigor

I feel challenged in my classes but not to the point where I feel overwhelmed.

    Tips for prospective students

The Village is a great place to live, it is the perfect balance of apartment living with all the safety of the dorms. It doesn't have those meetings every five minutes which is fantastic too. Blackbird Coffee is a great hangout. Go see a show! The theatre department is an intimate but fantastically talented group of students and the plays are professional quality. Buy your books early and not at the bookstore, they can get pricey. Milledgeville is a beautiful historic town, take advantage of some of the great sites like the Governor's Mansion or the Green Way.

    In three sentences

It's a perfect happy medium between the itty bitty- ness of Young Harris and the colossal UGA. There is always something going on and all of it is something enriching. The teachers are really what makes GCSU stand out; you can ask any one: these guys are phenomenal!!!

    Campus Safety

Georgia College and State University is ranked for its safety. On campus there are safety boxes all over just in case something does happen. Plus there is always cops around campus just in case of an emergency.

    Greek Life

There are plenty of greek organizations. A lot of the people on campus are in part of a fraternity or sorority. It is a great way to make friends and always gives you something to do.

    Clubs and Activities

There are TONS of clubs and activities one can get involved in. There is a club for each type of person because there are so many.

Great for these types of students

This college is great for all different types of students. Just students that are willing to get out there and have some fun. Plus, the campus is not huge so it is easy to get to places.

    Bang for the buck

For what you pay to attend college you get a good experience. It is easy to get along with the employees which can help you with good grades. This college is cheaper than most considering the education you will get.

    What to do for fun

If you are in an organization there is always something to do with friends. Also, there is a game area where you can go with your friends and play either video games or table tennis and others. Plus like I said earlier there is always an event going on for you and your friends to go to.

    Food and Dining

The food is decent for a college cafeteria. The interior is really nice and there is a good variety of food you can eat. Downtown and under the cafeteria are places that are easy to walk to and have really good food.

    Dorm Life

Each dorm is like a different community, however, it is an excellent place to meet new friends. All the dorms are nice and clean and well regulated my the community advisors. There is always events going on planned by the advisors and it is a great way to meet people.

    Academic Rigor

The classes are challenging but there is always someone there to help you out. The professors give plenty of opportunities to help you work on your grade if you are willing to try and attend classes. So if you attend classes there is no reason you should fail a class.

    Tips for prospective students

Just go with your gut and attend this college. It is easy to connect with professors and there is always somewhere one can go to get help with classes. There are so many different group activities and organization which one can get involved in.

    Campus Safety

Safety is number one for GCSU! There are tons of police always patrolling and there are call boxes every 20 feet or so in case of an emergency. In the dorms, there are also call buttons for emergencies. The GCSU police will give you a ride back to your dorm on golf carts, this is known as SNAP. You can find their number anywhere! They will even come and jimmy your car door if you need it or jump your car if the battery is dead... trust me.

    Greek Life

Tons of sororities and fraternities! We have Kappa Delta, Phi Mu, ADPi, Zeta, Delta Zeta, Pi Kappa Phi, Pi Kappa Alpha, Kappa Sigma, Delta Sigma, and Kappa Alpha!

    Clubs and Activities

So many clubs, I cannot even count! There's a club for every major/minor and random clubs like Salsa Dancing and you can even join CAB if you want!

Great for these types of students

If you love small campuses and the countryside, this school is for you!

    What to do for fun

The Campus Activities Board (CAB) always has something going on plus your dorm or apartment complex. The downtown scene is fun at times, especially when The Deeproots Festival comes into town. Also, Capital (nightclub) has singers come in for a Friday night usually. Then the best weekend (Homecoming) is when the school hires a famous artist or band to come have a concert for us. We have had, Sean Kingston, BoB, and Third Eye Blind since I have been here!

    Food and Dining

It goes half and half. The cafeteria (Saga, not The Max)... do not let them fool you. All of the upperclassmen call it Saga. Well, it has it's good and bad days just like any other cafeteria. There are also on campus restaurants like Subway and Chick Fil A, and the downtown dining is right next to front campus, so go there too! Kuroshima and The Brick are two yummy favorites!

    Dorm Life

The dorms are really nice and close to campus. Walking is good for you and you meet tons of people and lifelong friends! The RAs are always there to help and there are tons of dorm activities and events! Just try and be positive about moving in/out. It's always a pain.

    Academic Rigor

Like I said, this school challenges you. The teachers want to see how you have learned and how to apply it. They are not just going to hand you grades.

    Tips for prospective students

Go to the library. It really does help being in a study room and not your room. Ask questions; even though it may seem scary, the teacher will help you and chances are, more than half the class has the same one. Have fun at least once a week! Your brain will fry unless it gets a break every once in a while!

    In three sentences

Georgia College has a beautiful campus. Teacher to student ratio is small enough to where you will not become lost in a sea of students. The school challenges you in every way possible.

    Tips for prospective students

If you want a place where the professor pays attention to you then GC is the place to be.

Awesome place due to the fact that the student numbers are low so the professors have enough time for every student.

    Campus Safety

Very safe. Cops everywhere. SNAP is a golf cart system that students can call to transport them around campus instead of walking in the dark.

    Greek Life

Not as big here but still loved to be apart of. Greek life hosts many events for everyone to be apart of. Whether in Greek life or not, everyone still feels together as one, not separated by Greeks and non-Greeks.

Great for these types of students

Great for students that like the small town feel and like walking around campus and seeing people they know around every corner.

    What to do for fun

Intramural sports are a big activity to participate in. There are various sports that students can choose from. Greek life is not as big here, but it still is something students love being apart of. There are also sporting events that students are heavily involved in attending.

    Food and Dining

The food is what is expected. The Max always has burgers, pizza, and sandwiches. The other two lines are changed up daily from stir-fry to quesadillas to fried chicken or pork. The 441 line always has a homemade dinner feel to it. The breakfast everyday is always the best.

    Dorm Life

Love the dorms. The advisers always have something going on, whether it is making stress balls, Sunday sundaes, hosting a fair, or camping outside, students can always have plans to do something, while meeting their neighbors.

    Academic Rigor

The core classes are definitely doable. They are made for students to pass and be able to get into their major classes. If you do the work that teachers ask and study for tests, the classes are not too difficult.

    Tips for prospective students

It is a great college if you do not care that it does not have a football team. Stay involved in activities revolving around dorm life and keep an eye out for partaking in activities on front campus. It is a small college town, but with an open perspective, few are found to not dislike it.

    In three sentences

An amazing college that always has something going on. Freshman can easily find an activity to become involved in. A small town that has a big feel to it.

    What to do for fun

Although there aren't many things to do around the city of Milledgeville since it is a smaller town, the location of the city allows students to be able to travel to other locations for enjoyment purposes.

    Dorm Life

    Dorm life is wonderful.

    Academic Rigor

The academic rigor found at Georgia College & State University is one that cannot be beat. Many of its programs are very well known and provide an excellent structure for every students future.

    Campus Safety

Campus is very safe and the public safety guys are great. Just don't wander too far from campus at night, especially alone. Milly isn't the friendliest area once you're a few blocks away from campus.

    Greek Life

Greek life seems pretty involved here. I'm don't participate in it, so I can't give you details.

    Clubs and Activities

There are tons of clubs, and it really just depends on which one you're interested in how many activities they do. It's really easy to start organizations though, so if you don't see one you like, make your own!

Great for these types of students

All of them. Every kind of student can find a niche here.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There aren't a lot of weird traditions. The Brick is the best pizza place in town. Make sure to get to $2 Tuesdays at Asian Bistro maybe at least an hour before you actually plan on being seated. Go to Rocky Horror- you will not regret it. Make the Greenway one of your first outings. It's a cool place to hang out.

    Bang for the buck

It's not glamorous, but this school is cheap and the education is decent.

    What to do for fun

You kinda gotta make your own fun here. There aren't a whole lot of attractions. Get involved with campus organizations.

    Food and Dining

Saga is disgusting. Don't let them fool you on visiting days when the food isn't half bad. The saga seven is a running gag here (you've got seven minutes to get to the bathroom after eating this food).

    Dorm Life

My dorm experience was great! I'm still very close friends with most of the people who lived on my hall freshman year. Bell Hall usually fosters the greatest sense of community if you can get in.

    Academic Rigor

It's a liberal arts college. You'll get a decent education, but this isn't exactly Georgia Tech.

    Tips for prospective students

It's a small school, so make sure that GCSU will be able to meet the needs of your intended major before settling.

    In three sentences

Georgia College provides a great college experience. It's small campus allows for a lot of one on one time with your professors and really lets you get to know your peers. Class sizes are small, and it's very easy to get involved.

    Campus Safety

The campus safety at GC is very great! They have emergency poles in every direction you turn and a great police force.

    Greek Life

Greek Life at GC&SU is booming! The sororities and fraternities get into their activities, having fun and showing school pride.

    Clubs and Activities

Georgia College has many academic societies for students who excel academically, intramural sports, and volunteer groups.

Great for these types of students

Georgia College is definitely a great institution for anyone pursuing a career in the Liberal Arts field. The school also has one of the best nursing programs in the state, as well as many other wonderful programs, such as the education department.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Georgia College does not have a football team, and therefore holds their homecoming midway or toward the end of the basketball season. The school holds many fun activities during Homecoming week, including a concert by a famous band the night before the Homecoming game and a little parade right before the game begins.

    What to do for fun

Aside from Georgia College's great sports, intramural teams also play year round, with football, dodgeball, basketball, and many other sports. Georgia College also offers a large Greek life, as well as active on-campus ministries and organizations. Georgia College is practically in downtown Milledgeville, as well, where there are neat antique stores, cute boutiques, and delicious restaurants to eat in.

    Food and Dining

The Max, Georgia College's cafeteria/ dining hall, is open for every meal of the day, with as many food choices as you can think of. Although the food is only average and freshmen are required to get a meal plan, Georgia College does offer alternative dining places, such as Chick-Fil-A, Subway, etc.

    Dorm Life

I am a dual-enrollment student, so I have not lived in a dorm room yet. Next year, though, I will officially move into one. However, most of my peers who have lived in the dorm rooms say that they are clean, nice, and full of great opportunities to meet people.

    Academic Rigor

I have classes that were on two completely different scales- extremely easy and very difficult. I have also had in-between! Most Georgia College professors do not give you more than you can handle, but they do expect for you to do above and beyond what is asked of you.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are in high school and not accepted yet, make sure that your SAT scores are above average. Georgia College has become more demanding in its accepting process over the past few years. Also, Georgia College seems to be very volunteer-oriented, so don't hesitate to get as many volunteer service hours as possible.

    In three sentences

Since it is a liberal arts university, Georgia College can pride itself in being unique and very diverse. It offers great courses with professors who do, for the most part, care for their students. The class sizes are managable and the school gives opportunities to succeed well that other colleges do not give.

    Greek Life

    Huge greek life.

    Bang for the buck

Overall a great experience and environment.

    What to do for fun

The downtown area is very fun, and there is a very strong nightlife. Students also host parties the majority of nights. During the day you can find nature outlets or hang out with your friends around campus.

    Food and Dining

The dining could use a lot of help. Over priced, but convenient.

    Dorm Life

Everyone at the dorms has a bathroom directly connected to their room and are only a block from campus. There is also a strong student community in the dorms.

    Academic Rigor

Being only a freshman, many of my classes are the introductions for their subjects. However, difficulty depends greatly on the professor and your diligence in keeping up.

    Tips for prospective students

Although cliche, the best advice I can give is to be yourself and work hard. Being yourself allows the people keen to who you really are to naturally surround you, and working hard will allow you to fulfill your potential as a student. This way you can have the best social and academic experience.

    In three sentences

Georgia College has a strong community that isn't limited to just one group, but includes pleasant students, faculty, and many organizations. It is not hard to fit in here, yet not hard to stand out if you want to. GCSU is a great combination of the energy and activity of a large university and the simplicity and community of a small college.

I love Campus Outreach and Wesley. There's also this new ministry called Hydrolove that is totally student based, not really affiliated with the school at all. But Hydrolove is awesome.

    Food and Dining

Though they usually have choices for special dietary needs (vegan, gluten intolerance, lactose intolerance) the food is not that great. And I'm not one of those people that said my cafeteria food was nasty in high school (though others said it was).

    Dorm Life

First year students, do not live at the Village. I am just now starting to make connections because I transferred here and the Villagers tend to keep to themselves more. The dorms have more activities and the halls apparently become really close. I kind of wish I toughed out another year in a dorm.

    Academic Rigor

Classes are definitely challenging, so study and work hard.

    Tips for prospective students

Milledgeville itself isn't the best town ever, but GC sits in the middle of a bubble per-say.

    Clubs and Activities

Without a doubt the best club/bar scene I have ever scene and I have visited UGA, GA Southern, GA Tech, and Auburn multiple times.

Great for these types of students

Anyone, literally. The school is Georgia's only public liberal arts school so it attracts a variety of people. There is a huge part of the school (around 25%) that are involved in greek life which is much larger than most schools (most are at about 5%).

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Don't walk on the bobcat on front campus.

    Bang for the buck

I'd say GC is one of the top two or three schools in the state, or even in the southeast as far as bang for your buck goes.

    What to do for fun

    - Intramurals as well as recreational sports. GC has a $28 million dollar wellness facility. - Downtown : The bar/social scene is one of a kind in milledgeville. - There are several outdoor locations to hang out with friends/do homework and such around the campus.

    Food and Dining

The dining hall is average, could be better, but definitely not the worst.

    Dorm Life

Absolutely awesome. The best experience ever, and the dorms are relatively nice compared to most other schools.

    Academic Rigor

GC has one of the top few GPA's in the state. The academic rigor isn't terrible, but don't expect to have a 3.0+ throughout your entire undergrad years without cracking the books.

    Tips for prospective students

    Campus Safety

The school was ranked best in campus safety in the country. Need I say more?

    Greek Life

Huge Greek life here. At least half the students here are in a sorority or fraternity. Most of the homes surrounding the campus are occupied by them, and they tend to have lots of parties apparently.

    Clubs and Activities

Plenty of clubs are offered on campus. If none are to your liking then I suggest creating your own. And like I said before, the school offers several events a week like laser tag, cook outs, games, etc.

Great for these types of students

Really just about anyone who desires a good education...or wants to be in a sorority/ fraternity.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Supposedly if you step on the bobcat head on main campus, you will have bad luck for the remainder of your school career. I'm not the superstitious type, but upperclassmen can get touchy if they see you step on it, so I just avoid it.

    Bang for the buck

If you can afford it here, by all means, its a great school. Its one of the cheaper schools in Georgia actually, so I would seriously consider it.

    What to do for fun

There are plenty of events to go to during the week, but during the weekend its pretty dead on campus so you'll have to get creative. Although if you're a party type, then it shouldn't be hard to have fun, especially downtown. For non drinkers like me, I suggest the DEN (a student center), going to Blackbird coffee shop, hanging with friends, or joining a club. Going home on the weekend, if you can, is also a good idea (especially during fall, winter, and spring break).

    Food and Dining

The Max, the student dining hall, does have good food, but it gets very tiring eating the same thing time after time. There is also a Chic-fil-a, Subway, World of Wings and other places on campus as well.

    Dorm Life

I don't live in dorms, but the Village is essentially better. More intimate atmosphere and more benefits like free laundry and printing. Getting to know people is a little tougher but if you put yourself out there, it will be a better experience.

    Academic Rigor

Being one of the top schools in the state, your education here will pay off. The classes here are small compared to other universities, making it easier to get to know your teachers.

    Tips for prospective students

Be prepared for the course load. There is a lot of work that the teachers demand. You will have a lot of reading to do. Always stay on top of homework, it piles up pretty quickly.

    In three sentences

This is a great school and I love it here. I am enjoying my time here very much!

At night, there is a program called S.N.A.P. which acts as a mode of transportation for students to and from the dorms and the Library. S.N.A.P. also can take students to and from downtown on party nights. Georgia College is one of the safest campuses in the United States, but you always need to use caution and be aware of your surroundings. Never wander off campus without knowing where you are going or by yourself. It´s good to carry pepper spray or know self defense when you are in a bad situation. There is a Mixed Martial Arts Club on campus.

    Greek Life

The Greeks usually hold a step show in the Fall. Greek life is an awesome way to get plugged in and better acquaint yourself with the campus. Students are not Greek because of peer pressure, most people love it and it helps them mature and get organized. I did not pledge but for my friends who did, it made a huge difference in how they matured over the course of being at Georgia College. Greek life on campus is diverse, there is a sorority or fraternity for everyone who is interested. The best thing to do is ask if you want to learn more about a particular sorority or fraternity.

    Clubs and Activities

Black Student Alliance Intramural Clubs- volleyball, flag football, soccer Campus Outreach- great Christian ministries BCM Wesley House Church Campus Catholics

Great for these types of students

Campus Ministry- awesome to be a part of Black Bird Coffee- local coffee shop for those who love to study. meet up with friends. listen to poetry, participate guitar jams, or have quiet time.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

October Fest The Pit- park near the railroad

    Bang for the buck

I love Georgia College for its small classes, attentive professors, and inviting atmosphere. The best part of Georgia College to me is getting involved with the Baldwin County community in your free time and getting plugged into community service projects that go on throughout the year. Georgia College is not for the people who want a big college town feel or if you want a party school. Most students feel privileged to go to Georgia College because it is a friendly environment but they are not tolerant of unruly behavior.

    What to do for fun

Get involved with extracurricular activities and clubs! You will meet a lot of people, learn the campus better, and maybe even get invited to some parties. If you are not into the party life, most of the campus ministries have parties of their own as well as concerts, bonding activities, and trips that you can get involved in. Read a book. Host game nights in your Hall or in the Village quad. Go to a play or concert. Go eat out with friends or plan to go to a campus event. Front campus is usually bustling with activity. Travel to near by attractions such as the The Greenway (park by the river). There is always something to do, the best way to get plugged in is to ask around and there is always something posted by Tom Miles about campus activities.

    Food and Dining

If you are on a limited meal plan, use your swipes wisely. Then can run out early if you do not plan correctly. If you are living off campus, it will probably be beneficial not to get a meal plan unless you are planning to be on campus all the time during the day. Many restaurants are in walking distance downtown, but if you are looking to treat yourself or your family to something special bigger, more commercial restaurants are on the main strip on Highway 441.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are awesome for making friends. Avoid them during party nights, it can get noisy. Learn to study outside of your room or find a quiet place in the library. There are study rooms in every dorm which are accessible to all students.

    Academic Rigor

Enjoy your classes, and even if you do not like your professor, find some aspect of the class that you are interested in learning about and focus on it. Know your study habits, because at Georgia College the rigor of your classes may require more hours of the day than you are initially willing to study. Most of the final exams are cumulative, so save your notes and don´t throw them away. Reviewing your notes and practicing what you have learned all year helps with your capacity to memorize and retain the information. Be a leader when you work in group projects.

    Tips for prospective students

Study hard and don´t slack off in your first year, it makes a huge difference in your GPA later on. Get acquainted with your professors, they are there to help you. Get involved with extracurricular clubs and sports programs, it will help build up your resume and you will most likely be friends with your teammates and colleagues for years to come. Record the times that you do community service projects, your hours can go towards a community service award in the future.

    In three sentences

Georgia College is an awesome place to get plugged into a campus ministry, club, or Intramural sport and still stay on top of your game in class. Georgia College has a good environment for Freshman to grow and make friends. Georgia College has an excellent Arts program whether it be Theatre, Dance, Music, or Art Department.

    Greek Life

Greek life here is absolutely fantastic! There is a sorority/ fraternity for every type of student from the athletic one to the book smart one.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

A popular tradition among most is to take a late night dip in the school's reflection pool located by the dorms.

    What to do for fun

There are plenty of clubs to join here. Intramurals are among the most popular thing to do on campus. If you like to volunteer, then there are plenty of options for that as well. In your spare time, you definitely need to head out to front campus. There is always an event going on! If you want a break from campus, then head over towards the quaint downtown area filled with unique boutiques and dining places.

    Food and Dining

If you find yourself getting hungry head on over to the Max! Or if you prefer, use your school i.d. at Chick-fil-a, Zaxby's, Subway, and many more other tasty places. The Max is always serving up something whether it's for a Monday lunch or a Sunday brunch.

    Dorm Life

You can either pick your room mate or be assigned one. Either way way, you will have tons of fun getting to know your fellow residents during all the activities throughout the year. The dorms have awesome common rooms and plenty of study rooms.

    Academic Rigor

The academics are challenging but if you can manage to pull out good grades then that means you are just one more step closer to success.

    Tips for prospective students

As a prospective student you should know that you need to come prepared to learn. It's not all fun and games here. But don't worry, when you find that you need a break head on over to the Den and relax with fellow classmates. The dorm life is amazing and exciting. Be open to new ideas, cultures, and experiences.

    In three sentences

Georgia College and State University is the place to find yourself. It's where thousands of young adults dreams come true. And its home to the Bobcat, who is known for its fighting spirit!

Milledgeville Georgia lays in the middle of three different police routes. Also there are safety buttons all over campus and in every room that anyone can push if there is any kind of trouble.

    Greek Life

GCSU has a very large Greek life for both fraternities and sororities.

    Clubs and Activities

There are hundreds of clubs and organizations that are available to get involved with. There is also a lot of intermural sports and Greek life.

Great for these types of students

    Bang for the buck

Though it is a little on the expensive side, it is worth every penny.

    What to do for fun

There is a movie theater, bowling alley, skating rink, and also a giant lake all right near campus.

    Food and Dining

GCSU just got a new dinning hall a couple of years ago and it is wonderful. It is a buffet style dinning hall that has a wide variety of food.

    Dorm Life

I live in the off campus apartments, but I have seen and stayed in the dorms before and they are very nice and a good size.

    Academic Rigor

Though the classes can sometimes be difficult, they are still manageable.

    Tips for prospective students

Since it is getting harder to be accepted, make sure that you take some honors classes during high school and make sure to do well on the ACT and SAT.

    In three sentences

This school campus is beautiful and is the perfect size. The teacher truly do care about your education, and the class sizes are not too large. I do not feel like just a number at this school.

When you're looking for fun at GCSU be sure to go to front campus for a little Frisbee or slack lining activity. This is a very popular activity at Georgia College,

    Tips for prospective students

Students who are looking to attend Georgia College and State University need to work hard to get into the school, as well as, continuing to work hard after acceptance. In addition to working hard, students should really get to know their professors and class mates.

    In three sentences

Georgia College and State University is a fun and small Liberal Arts college in Milledgeville, Georgia. I never thought I could be at a college so small, but wow was I wrong. I enjoy everything from knowing the campus to feeling ultimately welcomed by everyone.

    Campus Safety

I always feel safe when I am walking around campus, even if I am by myself and it is 1:30 am. There are emergency stations everywhere as well as Milledgeville and GCSU police on every corner.

    Greek Life

I personally did not go greek, but I have roommates who did and they absolutely love their sorority. I do not feel as though I am being left out of any fun activities having not done one though. I think this school is small enough that you could be happy going either way.

    Clubs and Activities

I know intermurals are a huge deal here; we have flag football, basketball, soccer, dodgeball and all sorts of other things. Almost everyday there is a class at the gym which can include Yoga, cycling, ext., as well as a ton of other campus activities.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for students who want to have a good time for one of the best times of their lives, while being enrolled in some of the best classes that are available in the state. This is a campus for friendly people who are looking for a good time and a successful future.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is this one part on campus where there is a big bobcat head painted on the ground and it is said that if you walk over it you will not graduate!

    Bang for the buck

I think this school is completely worth what we pay for it. The little things all add up to making this place so worth it; I have open access to an incredible new gym, I get pretty good food almost whenever I want it, I have great classes and professors, and I have a pretty nice and safe place to live.

    What to do for fun

For fun I frequently go with my friends to the local park, and we play flag football, which we also play on an intramural team. At night some of the Greek houses will have parties and most people end up at the little restaurants downtown, which is always fun!

    Food and Dining

The food at the MAX is pretty standard. Some days are better than others, but most of the time I find something that I like. They recently installed a salad bar, which is an awesome healthy choice and is always consistently good!

    Dorm Life

I personally love living in the dorms. I have made so many good friends while living so close to so many different people, I am sad that I will have to move out at the end of this year, but I will not miss sharing a bathroom with three other girls!

    Academic Rigor

The academic rigor of GCSU is about what I expected, it's can be really difficult sometimes but if you manage your time wisely, it should be okay.

    Tips for prospective students

Even if you don't think this is the school for you, please at least visit here. There are so many different people here, all who are so friendly and always put others before themselves.

    In three sentences

I could not imagine living anywhere but here. The second I stepped foot on this beautiful campus I knew I would spend my college years here, and so far I am right. I walk down the sidewalk and give as well as receive smiles from strangers, everyone is so friendly.

    What to do for fun

Limited options in this small town. However, if you're in some student organization, there are lots of events and activities on campus.

    Food and Dining

    Food is ok.

    Dorm Life

I was a transfer student so I'm hearing about dorm life from other students.

    Academic Rigor

The courses are as rigorous as other state schools. I was a transfer from a state school in North Carolina and the curriculum is just as hard at GCSU. However, the availability of the teachers for help and the small class sizes are better at GCSU.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved with student organizations or if you like Greeks, join a frat or sorority since there is not a lot to do in the town.

    In three sentences

The school is one of the few state schools which has a low student/teacher ratio so students get close attention from their professors and TAs. The professors are very helpful and some retired teachers tutor the students in the Learning Center. I highly recommend this college.

This campus has a laid back feel, and has a student population that reflects its local population. The staff is nothing but helpful. The only complaint anyone can have is that the cafeteria is too small for its student population.
