Great for these types of students

I would say any student just getting started, or anyone coming back to college. Also they have a very well nursing program, so anyone that is interested in that.

    Tips for prospective students

Call and schedule a meeting to go on a tour, so that way you know what it is like and you'll see how friendly everyone is.

    Am enjoying being here

The staff is really friendly, as well as the students. They go out of their way to help you with a problems. The college is a very clean and nice looking place to be as well!

    Am learning a lot

The teachers here for the most part really take time to get to know you and how well you learn in order for you to advance. They seem to show they really are for your education, though a lot of people think community colleges don't care as much, these teachers really do.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for every kind of student. Whether you don't know what you want to do or you know what you want to do the counselors will help you more than you think. The teachers are also great with one-on-one explanations and so on.

    Tips for prospective students

Get your classes scheduled early. Like they say the early bird gets the worm and it literally applies here. If you don't register asap you may be waiting for another semester or year for a required class or even having to take the class at another school because it isn't offered the next year. I also recommend taking a few extra classes you don't exactly need because they can be a lot of fun, especially drawing classes or a fitness class.

    Bang for the buck

This school is literally a bang for your buck. You have the same gen. eds as you would at Western but they don't cost you and arm or a leg or even selling your soul to the devil (not literally selling it to the devil but you don't have to take out outrageous loans just to go to school).

    Am enjoying being here

I most definitely am enjoying it here. Believe it or not most of the people you graduate with or people you know from different schools may be here. I also love walking through the concourse and hearing a guitar or piano playing or seeing the spectacle of the ping pong players. The vending machines.

    Am learning a lot

It honestly depends on the classes you take. If you want to be challenged take more advance classes than you did in high school. It looks better on a resume

    Academic Rigor

School for me is already quite easy, but I love a challenge, and by loading up on credit hours I can achieve that effect.

    Tips for prospective students

Register for classes on time, get to know people, and have fun at Glen Oaks!

I absolutely love GOCC. If I could stay here for the rest of my college career, I would. The school is very comfortable, the staff is amazing, and I couldn't think of a better school to jump-start my beginning to life!

    Campus Safety

Campus Safety overall seems to be pretty safe. I am not sure if we have on-campus patrols 24/7 or once in awhile; if we do I haven't ever seen them. But, the campus seems to be pretty safe.

    Greek Life

There is no Greek life available at GOCC.

    Clubs and Activities

There are a few clubs that you can join that will offer homework help, help transferring courses to another college, scholarship search and application help etc. There are also sports available for men and women, such as cross-country, basketball, softball etc.

Great for these types of students

This college is great for all types of students. There are no two people alike here. Although, it is located in a huge open field of land and country, if your not use to seeing that that's about all there is to get use to. The students have been nice and welcoming. But, any type of student will most indefinitely fit in well.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There aren't really any usual traditions or locations on campus that I can really think of it is a pretty traditional school.

    Bang for the buck

Overall, you get you get what you pay for. The teachers are pretty good at teaching what they teach.

    What to do for fun

There are a few things to do for fun. There are a few groups to join or sports. There are some school student events that they will hold for fun.

    Food and Dining

There really isn't a good court. But, there is a small convenience court where you can get coffee, snacks, etc.

    Dorm Life

There is no on-campus living courtiers available. But, they recently have been doing a survey for on-campus housing, and asking whether students would live on-campus or not if that were to be an option.

    Academic Rigor

The Academic Rigor overall is pretty good. Class registrations runs pretty smoothly. As long as you register right away you are almost guaranteed all the classes that you had signed up for. The only problem sometimes is the communication of the needed materials needed in certain classes; sometimes you won't even need the book for that class depending on the teacher.

    Tips for prospective students

Tips for prospective students would be to always try hard and work hard. DO NOT, procrastinate get things done right away and study/review as much as possible. Remember to always give it your all because these classes cost now, its not like high school where you can just take it again. Of course you can do that here, but with the additional cost. No one wants to pay for the same general education course twice.

    In three sentences

Glen Oaks Community College is a really good school. It is very affordable and convenient for several surrounding areas. Overall, GOCC is a great place to get started or a great place to continue. Depending on what your going for your experience and time spent here will be worth it.

    Campus Safety

We have a local sheriff that walks around the school. There is also one post in the parking lot for emergency. It's a small college, located back in a wooded area.

    Clubs and Activities

Student Government, Phi Theta Kappa, The Visual Arts Club, Science Club, and Music Club

    What to do for fun

There is student activities some days. We recently had free sundaes or Velcro wall, sumo wrestling, and boxing. There is a turkey bowl around Thanksgiving. There are decorating Valentine's Day Cards. There is usually a ping pong tournament. Some times, there are discounts on Red Wings tickets.

    Food and Dining

There is a Rollin' Cafe that is providing food to buy. You can also drive to Centreville for McDonald's, Yoder's, or Subway. If you want more variety, Three Rivers, MI is only seven miles away.

    Dorm Life

No dorm life. Just ping pong tables, pool tables, and cafe on the concourse.

    Academic Rigor

There are some easy classes and hard ones. Most basic classes are easy; but once you get into humanities, it gets a little harder. You will hear from your first semester what not to take or who to take.

    Tips for prospective students

If plan on studying art or nursing, this is the best place to go. It's a community college, but it is worth the money to go than pay 12,000 for your first year.

    In three sentences

My experience at Glen Oaks has been amazing. The teachers are helpful when you ask for help. It has a great main area to visit with friends, do homework, study buddies, play ping pong, participate in student events and kill time before your next class.

    Campus Safety

Life on campus is a safe environment, with an on-duty police officer specifically designated to Glen Oaks Community College. during the open hours of the week.

    Clubs and Activities

Glen Oaks offers many activities such as art club, science club, cross country, and basketball.

    Bang for the buck

This college is definitely a great return on investment at such an affordable rate. Taking classes at Glen Oaks has a substantially lower cost burden than those of most universities. The major idea is that credits transfer to other colleges and suffice for their equivalent courses at the university, where it would have been a much high tuition rate.

    What to do for fun

There are many activities and events to participate in at Glen Oaks Community College. They will give out free ice cream to students on certain days throughout the year. The college hosts events such as a campus fun day where students can enjoy activities inside the concourse like inflatable obsticles. There are opportunities to take trips every year to other countries sponsered by the college. They also have random trips during the school year to see performances on stage in different cities or states. There is much to do at Glen Oaks Community College.

    Food and Dining

As far as meal plans are concerned, they are not offered by Glen Oaks Community College. However, they have a cafe called The Rollin' Cafe where students and faculty can pay for meals and dine at any of the many tables provided by the college. They also offer several vending machines for a snack people can purchase at any time of the day.

    Academic Rigor

The academic rigor presented in classes at glen oaks is challenging. The material covered in each class makes it evident that all aspects of learning are a step up from a high school level class. If one procrastinates and does not pay close attention in class, it is very difficult to maintain a high grade point average.

    Tips for prospective students

Glen Oaks Community College is a wonderful institution that has much to offer students wishing to continue their education beyond high school. The small class sizes bring quality to its education, and at a substantially lower tuition cost that a state or private university. Any student interested in advancing their education and career should strongly consider attending this college.

    In three sentences

Building a foundation at Glen Oaks Community College was the best educational decision I made upon graduation from high school. The atmosphere, architecturally modern campus, and small average class sizes at this college provides a smooth transition from high school to college and a positive environment to build a strong educational background. Glen Oaks Community College wins my highest rating.
