Great for these types of students

Glendale Community College is a school for those who are either not ready for an university campus or rather just have some one on one time with teachers and not be treated as a number. I have had friends and family members attend GCC and all loved the campus and environment. Plus GCC is very affordable for those who can not pay for an university.

    Tips for prospective students

Glendale Community College is the way to go and there is something for everyone.

Great for these types of students

Students seeking an associates degree or eventual transfer to a university, Students looking to save money!!!, and students seeking to get a comfortable feel of college life before attending a major university.

    Tips for prospective students

Try your hardest on the placement test. It's nothing too difficult however if you do place in honors criteria, you will receive a full-ride presidential scholarship as I did. You will need to keep up with the requirements such as a 3.25 GPA and 12 credit hours which include one honors class. As long as you study, be attentive, and do your homework it will not be difficult to keep!

    Bang for the buck

Glendale Community College is extremely affordable. They offer academic scholarships through high school placement, placement testing, and an honors program. Saving money is critically important, and going through community college either to achieve an associates degree or transfer to a university is the way to go! Glendale Community College is the school everyone should consider around the Maricopa County.

    Am enjoying being here

The atmosphere overall is positive and pleasant. Professors are also fun and enjoyable through class. I found that it was very easy to be attentive in all of my classes and I never got bored. There are a lot of staff at the campuses that are more than willing to help new students with smiles.

    Am learning a lot

The professors at the Glendale Community College Main and North Campus are equally able to help students individually despite the major size differences. I attend both the main and north campuses and i get equal attention and help. There are many tutoring centers on campus that are easily accessible and many opportunities to meet with your professor.

Low budget Associate Degree hopefuls People wanting to get prereqs out of the way for the universities at a discounted price

    Tips for prospective students

If you are looking to try and save some money and get classes out of the way that are a requirement for a degree that you are interested in the this is the college for you. Instructors are extremely approachable and can be a lot of fun in class. Classes don't seem to be too rigorous and as long as you pay attention in class and have a little bit of study time each week you should be able to breeze right through it assuming you aren't taking something like organic chemistry. You will have good instructors that know the material and offer help if needed and make it fun in some of your classes.

    Bang for the buck

This college is extremely wallet friendly especially in comparison to the universities. If you don't think that this is a fair price then look at ASU or UofA and see what you think after that. This college is a great way to get a lot of your courses out of the way and is a great transition from high school to a university.

    Did enjoy being here

This college is enjoyable and friendly. You will meet a lot of new people and have fun with them as you build a relationship with them through your course. It also seems to be a very laid back environment where there is not too much pressure. You can definitely have a good time if you attempt to.

    Did learn a lot

I didn't really seem to be challenged too much in my time here. It almost seemed like I was learning a little bit more in depth information about the same topics as high school but this could have easily been condensed into maybe a maximum of a couple weeks. That was the case for most of the courses I enrolled in, however there was one where I learned some and that was my Computer Information Systems course and that is only because I had no prior knowledge of some of the programs, but the ones that I did know about I breezed right through without really learning much.

    Am learning a lot

Glendale Community College is one of our surrounding community colleges in Arizona since 1965. Last year, more than 32,000 students enrolled in a wide variety of degree and certificate programs; on their way to achieving personal goals. From learning a particular subject to earning a degree or certificate to preparing for a new career or transfer to a university, students are always working hard, making life happen. The main campus at GCC North locations offers classes and programs throughout the West valley. There are supportive faculty members and helpful student services. They are ready to provide each student with the knowledge, skills and support they will need to succeed in the college and the world beyond it. For the past year, it has been a great opportunity for me to go to school there (ACE Plus program).I am going to be so prepared when I transfer to a university. GCC is an excellent beginning college for anyone!

    Campus Safety

Public safety officers are always plentiful on campus and are a significant to the peace that G.C.C. enjoys.

    Clubs and Activities

Many clubs are available for practically every career choice to help students focus on achieving their goal of graduating.

    Food and Dining

G.C.C. has a cafe with fresh food, coffee, and even a game room to help student's relax.

    Dorm Life

G.C.C. does not offer dormitories and therefore I must rate this section only 1 star.

    Academic Rigor

Classes are academically demanding and as such they also offer an opportunity to learn a significant amount of relevant information specific to the class. Class success is based on a student's ability to focus and stay disciplined throughout the entire semester.

    Tips for prospective students

My three main tips for prospective students are the following: #1. Do not allow yourself to procrastinate. #2. Study in multiple sessions and not all at once. #3. Ask questions in class no matter how simple they may be because there's a good chance someone else has the same question.

    In three sentences

Glendale Community College is an exceptional college that offers many career choices for its students. The teachers are very knowledgeable and go the extra mile to help their students understand course materials and ultimately earn a passing grade. The school is filled with resources such a writing development center, a music building filled with pianos, and even a library with access to the hundreds of books and several computer stations to study on and about.

Great for these types of students

Any student can succeed here, it is one of the largest two-years colleges in the country and offers most programs. The small class sizes and the colleges dedication to its students makes this college feel like home.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved beyond class. GCC offers over 30 clubs and counting to students, and I think my participation in clubs has been the key to my success and development. Also, professors are required to have office hours, and I cannot stress enough how important is to use this time to talk with professors.

    Bang for the buck

The entire cost for tuition, fees, and books at GCC for the two-years I have been going there is just a little over the tuition alone for a semester at ASU, yet when I talk to my friends attending university they often complain about the quality of education. For the fraction of the price, I take the same courses with fewer students and more interaction with the professor.

    Am enjoying being here

In the Maricopa County Community College District, GCC is known for having the best student life, offering events and clubs for all interest. There are several development opportunities outside of the class and made available to the students.

    Am learning a lot

The professors at GCC are dedicated to teaching, I have to see a professor blow a student off or not make him-or-herself available for extra help if needed. Beyond just a willingness to teach, many of the professors are experts in their field and have research experience, so you're getting relevant knowledge on the subject.

    Dorm Life

this college does not have dorms and neither do any of the community college in maricopa.

    Academic Rigor

the academic rigor varies from class to class. the classes i took were prerequisites for the classes i will be taking once i attend arizona state university. the classes to some extent reminded me of my high school classes except for the english and math classes. the teacher expect all the students to be capable of reading college material, writing at college level, turning in assignments on time, attending all classes on time, no plagiarism, electronics are prohibited at anytime, no retakes on anything, and to ask for help when needed.

    Tips for prospective students

glendale community college is a great school for high school graduates not sure of what to major but know they want to attend college, returning students wanting a certification in a particular area, or a student longing to attend a university and transfer later. this school is also great for parents who desire to earn a degree but can only attend school during the evening. lastly, this school is great for students who believe they are not ready for the demands of a university such as time management and self motivation which are a must for any college.

    Campus Safety

Campus security is good. Not too pushy or demanding, but enough to keep the students safe.

Great for these types of students

Students who are trying to find what they want to do with their life. Students who didn't do too well in high school - there's always a 2nd chance!

    Bang for the buck

Classes are cheap and it is definitely money well spent!

    What to do for fun

Glendale is close to Phoenix and there is tons to do in Phoenix! Malls are close, water parks are a short drive, and with good weather all year long, who can complain?

    Food and Dining

On campus dining was good! Lots of restaurants nearby if not feeling the on campus cafe.

    Dorm Life

I don't even think GCC had dorms so I am not sure.

    Academic Rigor

For the fact that it's only a community college, the rigor of academics is quite substantial. The classes are thought-provoking and the classes transfer most anywhere.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply for the presidential scholarship. Ask your counselor or someone at GCC.

    In three sentences

Glendale Community is a great school that can immensely help their students to get on their feet. They have programs that can help a student to find what their passion is and what they should do with their life. GCC is a great school!

Great for these types of students

For students who arent ready for the university or cant afforrd university tuition; Glendale Community College is a great college to enroll. Tips for prospective students

Take advantage of the small classes and especially of your instructors; they work right with you so you could get your moneys worth. Do your homework and study for exams and you'll do great in every class.

Great for these types of students

Any student who is unable to pay for university and just wants to start with basics this is a great college to start at! If you are not one for the university and you still want the college campus feel Glendale is the perfect choice because you have plenty of opportunities to meet new people, find activities to be apart of and so much more!

    Tips for prospective students

Any tips I could provide would be to sign up for classes as quickly as possible so that you cna get the courses you want and need. Take some time to explore the campus aside from classes because there is so much provided here. If you do not always have the best enviornment to study at home in they provide different computer labs and areas to sit and work on homework whenever you need it.

    Bang for the buck

My classes have taught me so much and I feel it was all worth the pretty penny paid for it. I woudl reccomened this campus to anyone because it is easy to navigate and easy to met new people. There are endless opportunities for an enjoyable experience here.

    Did enjoy being here

This is the nicest campus I have ever been on. There is lots of beautiful landscaping nad many places to eat and study between classes. It is well kept and very inviting.

    Did learn a lot

This was a great place with great professors! All of the professors I had throughout the 3 semesters I attended classes for my basics were the best! They were engaging and made class easy to be a part of.

Great for these types of students

GCC is great for students who do not have the money to go a university, or are not yet ready to move out. GCC will provide you a great transition into a university, and I recommend it to anyone.

    Tips for prospective students

Take you education very seriously. The classes are not difficult if you do your homework and study. It is so easy to get distracted by work or other things, so I would suggest making a schedule so you can have allocated times to do your school work. School is always more fun when you are succeeding!

    Bang for the buck

GCC is very affordable, and with two locations, there is always a campus near home. However, you need to keep in consideration how much books will cost you each semester. If you can not afford the books, you need to create a schedule where you can spend time in the library to check out your textbooks.

    Am enjoying being here

I am currently taking classes at the north campus and it is BEAUTIFUL. Everything is brand new and the do a great job on keeping the school nice. Most of the students and professors are very friendly, so it makes coming to class very enjoyable.

    Am learning a lot

The class sizes are very small, which makes it easier to have a good relationship with your professors. Most professors come to class early and stay late, so you will always have an opportunity to meet with them privately if you have any questions. GCC also offers an awesome tutoring program that makes it easy to get help when it is convenient for you.

-Adults returning to school. They offer day care and ALOT of flexibility. -New students coming out of highschool or from other countries. The school is simple and not as scary as university and VERY diverse! With tons of student activities. Even greek life.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply early. They offer alot of classes and they fill up quick. Though you can register and get into classes online, it's very good to meet with an enrolment adviser so that you don't end up in the wrong class. The advisors are all super helpful and they really wanna help you.

    Bang for the buck

Classes are affordable and they offer payment plans.

    Am enjoying being here

The security on campus keeps it feeling safe.

Great for these types of students

Those that enjoy as small campus with lots of options.

    Tips for prospective students

Enroll early!, do not wait until a couple of weeks before classes start to pick your teachers. Email your teachers in advance, let them know who you are and what you plan on benefiting from their classes. Befriend your teachers, this turns out to be a great life saver if you ever need a favor.

    Bang for the buck

The classes are cheap if you are instate, but the unfortunate recent increase in tuition is going to ultimately negatively affect the school more than it was meant to help because the out of state tuition is ridiculously high.

    Am enjoying being here

The atmosphere is unique, but it lacks one thing, student initiative. Most students want to leave school as soon as possible and yet they at times blame the school or the teachers for their poor grades. Unless one takes advantage of the great resources that GCC has to offer, then one will truly succeed. For instance if you are struggling in chemistry, they have a chemistry guided aid group called the Chemistry Solutions, same goes for math, writing, economics, computer tech, etc.

    Am learning a lot

When it comes to learning it depends strictly on the initiative of the student. Myself, I used to hate mathematics but now I am a fan of the latter. The teachers here are willing to help you, that is if you put in work to search for the best teachers.

Great for these types of students

Glendale Community College is great for the students who want to excel in their lives. Nearly every student here holds strong to their dream of moving on to a university. As long as you have that dream, Glendale has every last little thing that you would ever need to improve your live. The only kind of student that will not do well here is the one that does not care about their education or future.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't be fooled, people seem to think that community colleges are like advanced high school. You need to be prepared to handle all that is going to come your way when you register for classes. It is only as hard as you make it though, take notes, read your text books, and set aside the time to actually study, and you'll be fine. Let yourself fall behind? Well, that is all on you, no one is going to baby sit you. You can learn a multitude of things at this school, but you will only take away from your classes as much as that you put into them.

    Bang for the buck

Another reason that I love this school is because of it's amazingly affordable classes. It is probably the truth that I would not be in school right now if it were not for community colleges, especially Glendale. But the fact that the prices are lower than most does not mean that the education value is lowered as well. In fact, I feel that this school should charge more for all that they give to their students.

    Am enjoying being here

I love this school because of the teachers as well as the students. Every person I have met so far has been no less than awesome. All the students vary from age to backgrounds, each with their own impressive personalities. The teachers are tough, but understanding of your needs. They expect nothing less than excellence from you, which may deter some people. But with as much as this school provides for you academically, excelling at all that you do just comes so naturally.

    Am learning a lot

I am learning much more than I ever thought I would at a community college. For reasons unbeknownst to me, there is a negative stigma tied to going to a community college. But I can say from personal experience that Glendale is a flagship school that sets the standards on education with it's wonderful staff, excellent academic programs, and the students who attend.

Great for these types of students

All - except students that want the teachers to just give them the answers. Not here, Buddy.

    Tips for prospective students

If you need help, ask for it. No one can help you if they don't know you need it.

    Bang for the buck

I feel like I am definitely getting my money worth, education wise. It would be really irritating if I chose to pay to go to this school and wasn't learning well and couldn't get any help. I've been to schools where the teacher is only interested in presenting the information to you and making you figure out anything beyond the text. Very annoying, infuriating and detrimental to your grades. But here, if you need help, all you have to do is ask for it. The teachers actually want you to learn and really do they best they can to work with you. And it definitely shows in my grades!

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy the atmosphere and the classes. It is surprisingly relaxing. It's usually pretty quiet. Of course, my classes are at night, so that might have something to do with it.

    Am learning a lot

I have learned so much in all of my classes! The teachers have all been really nice and helpful!

    Anybody and everybody

    What to do for fun

Lounge at the student union, join campus clubs and organizations, and attend school plays, musicals, and recitals.

    Food and Dining

The food and beverages available on campus are adequate.

    Dorm Life

    Not applicable

    Academic Rigor

The academic environment tends to be less competitive, which is very advantageous because distress exists at lower levels, and you will get to compete with the person who matters the most for your career--yourself.

    Tips for prospective students

Qualify for the honors program. Not only will you receive a stipend per semester, but you will also be educated by dedicated professors among like-minded peers.

    In three sentences

GCC AZ has convinced me that community colleges are not so bad after all. Most slackers drop-out toward the mid-semester, so class sizes decrease, and discussions become more intellectually stimulating. The professors are dedicated and plenty of them have doctorate degrees.

    In three sentences

It is a central community college that offers a wide range of courses and has helpful and caring instructors. I love the fact that they offer weekend, evening, and online courses. They have added beautiful new facilities and are always growing and making great changes.

Great for these types of students

Students who were fond of high school life may find Glendale Community College similar to that. Classes are small and personal like in most high schools and that means the teachers are more available to help individuals on a need to need basis.

    Bang for the buck

Glendale Community College offers a wide range of courses and classes that are financially feasible for most students that cannot pay for more expensive educational campuses.

    Food and Dining

GCC's cafeteria is good but has a few items that are a little bit pricey. The actual dining area is great where there is much social interaction between students, but it never gets too distracting.

    Academic Rigor

Most classes at Glendale Community College are not too tough if you study. The key is studying. The more time you put into your homework assignments, the more likely you are to pass. Doing the little things like looking over notes or even doing a few extra problems on homework can go a long way on your test scores. In some cases, a class can become difficult for just you alone, but the free tutoring at Glendale Community College is very helpful in getting you passed your speed bumps.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you do not apply last minute. You will thank yourself when you are able to register for the classes you want and not be stuck in limbo on the waiting list to register for the class. Also take advantage of the free tutoring on campus. It may come in handy for more challenging courses.

    In three sentences

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There's always something happening on campus during the day or evening like festivals or different kinds of events like, plays and guest speakers.

    What to do for fun

The cafe/Student Union are good to hang out at with friends and have coffee and snacks. In the student Union there's also a little game/lounge room. Looks cool, but I've never been inside because it's always packed when I have a break.

    Food and Dining

There is a student Union near the front of the campus. The food is a little expensive for a college student on a budget, but there are some things that are lower in price. For example, if you only get a sandwich and not the combo you can save at least two bucks. The Student Union is very roomy and clean, can be loud at times when it's full of students, so it's not a good place to study and eat. There's a cafe inside the Student Union. The students who work in there are very nice and make your order quickly. Although again, the prices are very high for a starving student. However, I will say the coffee is delicious. It looks like they make up different flavors every week. There's also a Starbucks cafe in the semi-new Science building. It's very nice and clean. The students or non-students working back there are very nice as well and extremely helpful. Once I needed gloves for a science lab and they gave me enough for my whole class! The coffee is good of course, it's Starbucks, and the price is the same as any other Starbucks, too much for a student.

    Dorm Life

I don't think Glendale has dorms, but there are apartments across the street for student living and they are not the best looking apartments. I heard they are cheap, I've never looking into living there but of how they look (kind of dirty). Although, the apartments are in a very convenient place and it would take less than 5 minutes to get to the campus by walking across the street.

    Academic Rigor

Some classes are easy, some are hard. This isn't High School, but it's not a University, however, students should still expect to work hard for their grades. Students should be sure to check on how the professor teaches. Ask other students or search online for ratings to see if the professor is helpful and actually cares about the students. That's all you can really do to insure good grades, but still be prepared to study hard.

    Tips for prospective students

Take college seriously! Even though you may think this is just a community college because they sometimes have a bad reputation, it's still an amazing educational institute. The time you spend here learning and earning grades will dictate your future at a University or other college you plan to attend. Do not take unnecessary classes. Talk with advisers at the college and at Universities to insure you are taking the correct classes. Don't procrastinate with this because you will spend lots of money on the wrong classes and waste your time on subjects you don't need. Make time for studying and join study groups because they really do help. If you take early morning classes prepare for traffic in the parking lot. Some times I had to park my car in the park behind the school because there were no spaces open.

    In three sentences

Glendale Community College is a great school for students who aren't sure what they want to major in or don't have enough money to go to a University yet. Classes are easy to find and the campus is very clean. The campus also has lots of open space with tons of beautiful greenery and has a large diversity of students and helpful teachers.

    What to do for fun

    Food and Dining

The student union has a few different food choices, as well as a coffee shop (there are a few others on campus as well); though I do not typically eat the food on campus, so I am giving it 4 stars because there is plenty of food options immediately surrounding the school as well.

    Dorm Life

It is a community college, so there are no dorms; but, there are plenty of apartments and houses immediately surrounding the school.

    Academic Rigor

The professors are very serious about what they are teaching, but they are also extremely helpful and always available to help. Most are flexible when it comes to attendance, but not when it comes to performance.

    Tips for prospective students

Read rate my professor reviews if you are unsure because they are all fairly unbiased and true. Get a map and go figure out where the buildings your classes are going to be in are because it will make everything so much easier on your first day!

    Campus Safety

I've never seen a fight break out on campus and I feel pretty secure when I attend school. You usually see security officers patrolling the campus often so if the security of the college is an issue for you they can be a pretty comforting sight. They seem fair in their dealings as well and I haven't heard any bad news regarding campus safety.

    Clubs and Activities

The clubs are excellent. They have competent leadership that are involved with the activities of the clubs and their goals. Their is a good sense of camaraderie within the clubs and they are very active. The ones I'm involved with tend to meet at least once a week officially and are also involved in activities at least one other day within that same week.

    Bang for the buck

Like I said wait until you've attended your first day of class to purchase materials. The book store on campus will have a bit of a hefty price for books due to availability so if you think you have a bit of leeway concerning time try purchasing books off of amazon or half.com. Food prices are decent and they give you good portions.

    What to do for fun

You can generally just socialize with friends during your break between classes, join a club, or explore the area around the school.

    Food and Dining

The food here is pretty good and relatively fair concerning price range. Personally I try to eat at the school sometimes since I enjoy their food but will go to the eateries established around the school to conserve cash.

    Dorm Life

    There are no dorms here.

    Academic Rigor

The schools pretty laid back and professors are reasonable concerning issues that may arise during the semester. If you have a problem or have a legitimate excuse for missing an assignment deadline the professors are usually pretty fair. It also depends on which professor you get. I've had an enjoyable experience with all of mine so far and have no complaints.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't purchase required material until you actually attend the first day of your class. This can save you much needed money since some classes do not rely heavily on the prescribed books. You can easily survive some classes with lecture notes alone if you make sure to pay close attention and can keep up with the pace of the professor. Your first semester is your experimental phase and will be difficult due to the new found freedom given to you. Make sure to keep your grades as your top priority and don't let this new-found freedom sweep you off your feet. The professors I've had have generally been pretty laid back so you can be yourself around them but always show them respect and let them achieve their objective for the day.

    In three sentences

GCC is a good starting point for those who need to adapt to the drastic changes that take place in the transition stage from high school to college. The campus is overall very warm and inviting although complications can arise at times. Nevertheless most problems are solved by competent staff and diligent students.

    Campus Safety

Glendale P.D. roams around the campus 24/7, and is quick to respond if any incident occurs. In addition, weapons (of any kind) are not allowed on campus; almost every student abides by this policy. It is a very safe educational environment.

    Clubs and Activities

If you want to join a club, whatever it might be, GCC probably has it.

Great for these types of students

Glendale Community College offers one of the best arts and liberal arts colleges in the Valley of the Sun, and is renowned for its ability to build and shape university transfer students.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

While there are no real unusual traditions on campus, many Music Majors tend to use lecture hall pianos for class performances to rehearse for ensembles.

    Bang for the buck

At Glendale Community College, you will earn your degree, and at a fair price. With classes costing just $725 each, it is an extremely inexpensive way to attain an Associates Degree, or to complete undergraduate credit requirements.

    What to do for fun

Contrary to popular belief, Phoenix is not an amusement park city. As such, the common entertainment around campus is movie theaters, parks, mountain hiking, shopping, and museums. At GCC, there are music ensembles, plays, and several other artistically-inclined events as well as public debates and speeches.

    Food and Dining

Though driving is a necessity in Phoenix (and its vicinity), Glendale boasts one of the most diverse arrays of dining and marketplaces in all of the Valley of the Sun. Whether you like American, Italian, Japanese, Thai, etc., Glendale has something for you.

    Dorm Life

Though dorms are highly disregarded in this environment, local housing is safe, affordable and (generally) clean.

    Academic Rigor

While not as challenging as some universities, Glendale Community College holds its own in making students earn their degrees.

    Tips for prospective students

While community college may seem a bit daunting and underwhelming, the professors at GCC do challenge you. In addition, with flexibility in credit hours and prices, if necessary, you can have a job and go to school with little to no worry about whether your professors will work with you. This school just works, and it is a great starting point for any academic.

    In three sentences

Glendale Community College is a center for driven students who wish to receive a quality, university education at a community college price-tag. Professors and staff are knowledgeable, polite, and understanding, and will work with you to solve almost any problem you have. Plus, the campus is gorgeous, boasting rows of palm trees and decorative gathering places.

    What to do for fun

At the college: clubs and sports.

    Food and Dining

Food's pretty good. Main campus is always packed in the cafe/lounge area. North is pretty laid back over there, not many people.

    Dorm Life

No dorms at a community college.

    Academic Rigor

Depending on what classes you take. Some are easy and some are super hard. And some may sound easy, but have a lot of work to do in them,

    Tips for prospective students

DO NOT always take the super easy professors you read about on ratemyprofessors website! If you're going to be taking, for example; many math classes.. take a more challenging prof so info sticks with you and you're not sliding on by and you won't be overwhelmed when you take higher math.

    In three sentences

You hear a lot about community colleges and many people bag on them, but GCC is pretty nice! I mostly attend the North campus. Classes are small and I really like that.

I would recomend to try and join sports teams to stay fit or to join the workout classes with a friend. Also there is a game room on campus to get your mind off of the stress and just relax.

    Food and Dining

It is very difficult to pass by the campus and not notice the fast food restaurants near by, so if you are trying to eat healthy and avoid the freshmen fifteen I would advise bringing your own lunch. Although, the student union cafeteria has some very delicious foods to choose from.

    Dorm Life

I personally did not choose to live in dorms, because GCC does not have dorms although they do offer apartment housing. Even so I stayed at home to avoid the stress of having to pay for the hosing.

    Academic Rigor

Student have the ability to manage their classes around their schedule, so if needed the student may give themselves time in between classes to do homework or take a break.

    Tips for prospective students

My tips for students would be one, to get to school about ten to twenty minutes before the first class to have enough time to find parking, grab a snack, find your class and use the restroom ahead of time. Second would be not to procrastinate on homework or studying because if you put it off for one day it will be easier to keep putting it off and then eventually falling behind. Lastly, is to enjoy the time spent here because University is so much different and make plenty of friends because it will pay off.

Any possible danger on or near the campus is most likely going to be subdued by the campus officers that are always on patrol. Following common safety rules will ensure your safety and leave you worry-free while attending GCC.

    Greek Life

There are no known sororities or fraternities at GCC.

    Clubs and Activities

Besides the club fair, there are not many activities to take part in. GCC is far more focused in the simple Register, Attend, Study, Graduate formula.

Great for these types of students

Students who wish to spend less money, are undecided in their majors, and/or want a focused environment devoted to studying college courses and nothing else will fit in just fine.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Nothing of significance. The faculty does not organize any special tradition, and the students very rarely commit to something big enough to grasp the entire student body's attention.

    Bang for the buck

Community college is undoubtedly the best value for higher education--so long as the student is willing to forgo the genuine university-feel.

    What to do for fun

GCC holds club fairs for students with particular interests. These events are perfect for helping individuals find others with similar tastes.

    Food and Dining

The north campus hosts the Arroyo Cafe, a small, student-run restaurant with decent yet pricey food. The price is often the biggest complaint I hear from fellow students.

    Dorm Life

Glendale Community College does not offer room and board.

    Academic Rigor

Some of the courses may feel tedious and unnecessary, especially when taking courses solely for the sake of earning a requisite credit. However, they will all provide plenty of comprehensive knowledge at a level that all students are capable of grasping.

    Tips for prospective students

If you're interested in a small, quiet, and serious campus, GCC is the place for you. Community colleges like these are very easy to succeed in, so long as you take advantage of all the resources available to you, including academic advisement, counselling, and expansive online sources. Keep in mind, though, that this college is no place for wild fun with friends; you will have to search elsewhere for big parties.

    In three sentences

If you can look past the dull quiet of the small, individualistic campuses, Glendale Community College can provide a worthy educational experience at an affordable price. The tuition rate cannot be beat, but be wary of having nothing to do around the campus. Overall, the pool of student resources and low tuition costs make this college a decent option for the budget-minded student.

    Food and Dining

The food in the Student Union is a little pricier, but there are also vending machines around campus for drinks and food. The Starbucks in the building by the back parking lot is supposed to be good, and have good drinks and prices.

    Academic Rigor

It depends on how many and which classes you will take, but as an honors student, I find myself with a lot of work that requires all my attention. It is manageable, but time management is key.

    Tips for prospective students

The bookstore across from campus (that is still GCC) is much cheaper in supplies and used books, etc. The one on campus is a little pricier and much fuller in the first few weeks of each semester. There's also the online option for books. (But remember to check other resources for even lower prices too!)

    In three sentences

A good, safe school with a lot to offer. Enrolling is easy, and everyone who I had asked was very helpful. I only wish some things were pointed out more in regards to the school or explained more in-depth, since I didn't find out some information until it was too late.

    Campus Safety

They are usually people patrolling the campus but they never seem to catch the bad people I see smoking and whatnot on campus. Recently (Nov 2013) a female was sexually harassed at 6 or 7 pm in the center of school during night classes.

    Clubs and Activities

So far, Pharmacy club has been growing on me and they go out every friday doing a fun activity all together.

    Bang for the buck

Mcdonalds and Panda Express and a gas station is right next to the school. It's best to eat over at those heart-attack dinners than eat at our overpriced school.

    What to do for fun

Join clubs. Make friends. Talk about fun things.

    Food and Dining

Everything is really expensive, make your own food, or buy dollar menu items at mcdonalds. Tables and rooms are very small and all over the place as well. Just eating out is done better out of campus than in campus.

    Dorm Life

No dorm life - but there are apartments across the school and people asking for roommates. Many adds are up for such. Some seem to be there for a year or so as well.

    Academic Rigor

The classes I am in is either basics/common knowledge/too easy. The classes I was put in were like a review of all the AP courses I took in high school. Remember to try your best on the accuplacer tests.

    Tips for prospective students

To apply early no matter how tired or busy you are. Also to apply for financial aid and to do that correctly and calmly as well. Just be prepared and don't splurge all your money on your books because you might not need them anyway.

    In three sentences

From a scale of 1-10 I would rate GCC at a 7. It is doing better in a whole than the average school but it still needs work. Overall it is an alright school.

Great for these types of students

Most definitely science and math. English teachera are also good.

    Bang for the buck

It is definitely worth it when it comes to good education.

They have a recreation room where people can play air hockey, pool, and watch T.V.

    Food and Dining

Food isn't the best but some is still pretty good .

    Don't live in a dorm.

    Academic Rigor

I believe its the best community college in the state.

    Tips for prospective students

Get a map because you will get lost without one. Also try going to their career center, they really helped me out getting a good resume and how to do good in interviews.

    In three sentences

    1. 80% of the teachers I've had were really knowledgable in their subject. 2. The campus is HUGE for a community college. 3. Great atmosphere, thw student lounge and cafeteria are all great as well.

    Campus Safety

The campus safety seems pretty good. There are not a lot of incidences and I am sure they are the reason for it. If anything does occur they usually notify all students of the problem. They have a heavy presence and are always available!

    Clubs and Activities

There are a ton of clubs available. Clubs for veterans all the way to the sciences. Information can be found just about everywhere!

Great for these types of students

Students looking for smaller classes with a more personal feel. A lot of the teachers love to help and will make time to personally help in or outside of class.

    Bang for the buck

Pretty good bang for the buck. It beats spending huge amounts of money for the same classes at a university. There is great help and a lot of places to work on homework or to just use a computer because you can!

    What to do for fun

The student union has a game room and fun room. There are a ton of clubs to get into depending on the major and or interests. They often have quite a few events going on and they will be posted around school.

    Food and Dining

They have a pretty good cafeteria. I don't really use it very often but they also have two on campus coffee bars/shops which seemed to get a lot of use. The campus also has a ton of vending machines scattered around for convenience, if all you have is a quick minute between classes.

    Dorm Life

    There are no dorms.

    Academic Rigor

Honestly, it all really depends on the difficultly of the class and the teacher. I have had some pretty difficult classes but that is only because I chose them. I would give it a moderate difficulty in general. There are a lot of available options for tutoring or help for a lot of the subjects which can ease the difficulty. If an A is the goal than there will be more work involved.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you register as soon as possible, the classes tend to fill up fast. Do your research on the classes and make sure that they are transferable, if you are wanting to transfer, and that they are the classes you want. Get advisement help if you can but also talk to the teachers or heads of the departments you are going into. They are a great resource and can help you get a grip on what your a looking at as far as your degree is concerned.

    In three sentences

It is a nice overall environment. I like the personal attention you get from the teachers, you really cannot get that at any big universities. It is a really good community college with lots of clubs and activities.

    Campus Safety

There was a shooting on campus a couple of days before classes started.

    Greek Life

There isn't any greek organizations on campus.

    Clubs and Activities

It is rare that you see any activities going on on campus. I never see the flyers or advertisements until after the events, unless a professor passes them out.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for Caucasian students.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There aren't any that I'm aware of.

    Bang for the buck

    Save your money.

    What to do for fun

There are a lot of hookah lounges and local clubs to hangout in the vicinity. Metrocenter Mall and the movie theatre is about 15 minutes north of GCC and Arrowhead Mall and another movie theatre is about 25 minutes west of GCC.

    Food and Dining

There isn't a Starbucks, but there is a little cafe that charges the same prices for watered down frozen coffee.

    Dorm Life

There aren't any dorms on campus.

    Academic Rigor

Being a student coming from the midwest I did not feel up to par or challenged by the academic studies. There are some professors who do a great job, but I don't feel it's at the level of others in the U.S.

    Tips for prospective students

My advice would be to attend another school, but if you must just know that this school is for business only. This is not a place to come have fun, it is strictly school work.

    In three sentences

This school is fine for people who live in Glendale because it is probably the closest one for people who live in Central Glendale. The school lacks diversity and activities which can make being on campus very dull.

    Campus Safety

I would say that almost all the time, the campus is a very safe and friendly environment. Though we had one incident recently of a woman who was threatened in the late night hours by a creepy man who was following her, usually they have plenty of Campus Safety workers that keep an eye out for such activity.

    Greek Life

Greek life? What is that in relation to the GCC campus? Sorry, I do not know exactly how to answer this question.

    Clubs and Activities

Personally, I do not attend many clubs (if any at all) but they do offer plenty for all kinds of willing people who desire to participate in such. For example, in GCC I use to attend Phi Theta Kappa with some other engineering students; they didn't organize that particular group very well, but it wasn't completely unproductive, either... they planned a trip to different college campuses (authorized, of course) for different students to decide easier where they want to go.

Great for these types of students

For anyone who desires a smaller environment with a relaxing atmosphere, smaller groups of people, friendly teachers / counselors, and not in a rush for a busy and crazy time in a university, GCC is a nice place to start for college experiences. You can still meet intelligent people who have a desire to achieve their goals and take the work seriously while still enjoying each others' company.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There are times when they have various events in regards to celebrating or showing off traditions for different countries. They bring a piece of culturally diverse people, foods and displays during these events that allow us American college students what it is like in other places for other people. It can be pretty neat when these events occur so randomly throughout the semester.

    Bang for the buck

Although the food pricing is completely ridiculous to me when it comes to purchasing meals at the campus, I would say that I get a bang for my buck for the most part when considering the experiences I've had through my teachers and other students working with me. I gained plenty of wonderful and yet crazy memories with the other classmates every time we had group projects to complete, and I wouldn't have had them at any other place.

    What to do for fun

They have quite a few events going on almost every week and definitely every month; sometimes me and some other college mates would walk around and see what is going on near the Student Union section of the Campus to witness the event's activities and see what they are selling or putting on display.

    Food and Dining

Inside the campus they have some fairly nice quality in warm foods and snacks, but the prices are outrageous. I could never pay for a college lunch / meal at GCC more than once at most; they even charge you for the plate and fork!

    Dorm Life

I do not live in any dorms near / at Glendale Community College (AZ), so I cannot rate this properly.

    Academic Rigor

The teachers do care about a student's ability to succeed at a timely matter, but they are definitely not too lenient. Most teachers follow a schedule that is considered strict to the lazier students and fair enough for those that work hard at getting the job done.

    Tips for prospective students

This is the place to go if you are wishing to complete many of your prerequisite courses; attending GCC allows for a beginning college student to adjust to the new lifestyle that colleges offer. If you try to attend a university before a community college, you will either be overwhelmed with the teachers, commotion or the possibly large debt. Also, GCC specifically has many friendly teachers and counselors that help you through the classwork and advising towards your desired job degree.

    In three sentences

This school could definitely fit room in for improvement mainly because the pricing for certain foods or objects could be lowered. However, this is a fairly quaint and simple college place for us students who are intelligent enough to finish our prerequisites at a community college rather than a university. I actually recommend attending GCC for the first 2-3 years of the college life to understand the difference between the crazy side of universities and the simpler and almost relaxing style of GCC.

    Campus Safety

Disregarding the incident that happened not too long ago about some woman that went out late at night and got mugged by an older gentleman, I feel the campus is a pretty safe and nearly relaxing environment. Just don't go out late at night wandering where you're not supposed to go and you'll be fine!

    Greek Life

What is the Greek Life? I don't know how to rate this or give my opinion on it, haha.

    Clubs and Activities

I cannot give it five stars only because I've ran into a few clubs that weren't so great. The only thing that made it great was having my friends be there with me in it, but the overall activity in the club wasn't the most interesting. One was Phi Theta Kappa and it was more just lecture and pointless ramble about unimportant activity happening around our area. However, they did offer to take students to a University for exposure on what to choose for the future so it wasn't all that bad.

Great for these types of students

The intelligent ones that recognize how much money is saved attending a community college, the ones that don't just like to hardcore party and make new friends, the ones that are trying to complete prerequisites at a slower pace, and the ones that just know the better route for success.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Nothing too unusual, but sometimes their cultural events or displays right outside the campus were interesting to look at or be a part of. It was fun to go with a friend to see what's been happening around the campus, no matter what crazy event they had!

    Bang for the buck

I would say for the most part I've got my experience well and was a good bang for my bucks. The friends I made were fun to be with (unless it came around test time when everyone freaked out) and the classes by the teachers were quite memorable! Some of the teachers / advisers were really great to interact with and have made me feel more confident about my future choices.

    What to do for fun

You can check out all their events that they hold right at the campus outside of the Student Union / buildings; me and the friends I made at GCC always gathered to see what's going on and it's calm and enjoyable to attend the events. Sometimes just walking around and chatting with your peers on a nice day is fun, too.

    Food and Dining

Terrible, actually. The food may be a little tasty, but it is NOT worth your time or money. They even charge for the plate and fork; can you believe that insanity? Just don't bother with their food section unless you're desperate.

    Dorm Life

There are no dorms held at the community college.

    Academic Rigor

Some teachers are actually too rigorous as they forget what it is like to be a new student fresh without prior knowledge of the subject. However, most have a moderate level that is bearable and actually teaches you plenty of information for tests, exams and future courses.

    Tips for prospective students

To anyone who's having a hard time figuring out what they want to be in life or what kind of degree to pursue, I would attend GCC for my first two years or so. It saves a lot of money, hassle and overwhelming size/prices. One is overall very smart for choosing a community college to attend to for their prerequisites, but at GCC you meet some friendly teachers and other students along with getting your money's worth through courses taken.

    In three sentences

To attend Glendale Community College for your first 2-3 years of any college experience is actually a very smart choice. The campus is not too large, the people there are friendly, and the atmosphere is nearly relaxing. Instead of wasting large amounts of money at a university for your prerequisites, attend GCC and figure out your future choices for degrees there; it won't be regretted!

Great for these types of students

Those who aren't ready to leave home, can't afford a university, or do well with smaller classroom sizes.

    What to do for fun

Make friends, get involved with clubs. College, must like high school, is what you make of it.

    Food and Dining

There is a cafeteria type area with decent food. However, compared to some universities it's mediocre at best.

    Dorm Life

There is no dorms on GCC's campus as it's a community college.

    Academic Rigor

I'm in the honors program so my classes may be, on average, more difficult than the average student. However, school also comes naturally to me so it may be harder or easier depending on the individual.

    Tips for prospective students

Students should print out a list of their schedule and tour the campus before the first day! Always give yourself enough time to get to one class to the next without rushing. Don't slack off, it's easy to think college is like high school but it's much more difficult. Also, make a friend in every class so if you miss a day, you'll be more comfortable asking someone for missed notes or assignments.

    In three sentences

The classes are well-sized, and the majority of the professors and staff really do care about their students. Many professors will go out of their way to help individuals which is extremely beneficial. All in all, the college is a great way to start a education after high school.
