Categories Comments Great for these types of students Perfect school for local students looking to save money and take some time to consider their college options.
Tips for prospective students Make sure to research what classes you will need to take to transfer from here. Make a general two or three year plan, so you don't end up only needing one or two more classes and have to stay a whole semester to be able to move on.
Bang for the buck Most students live at home and tuition is only twenty dollars per unit.
Am learning a lot Many of the teachers at Grossmont also teach at local schools like San Diego State.

Categories Comments Campus Safety there is a lot of security in this school they have a police department and are there to help
Clubs and Activities there are many activities and clubs you can join i haven't enrolled in any because of my busy schedule. hopefully soon i will
Great for these types of students students who want to succeed
What to do for fun the library is a very fun place to be at. there are many books you can read there and you are welcomed to use the library's computers. the students are very generous and social; you can make friends easily.
Food and Dining there is a new lunch room that is very nice and have all sorts of meals and snacks. i usually buy a meal and enjoy the free wi-fi to study or do homework while i'm eating.
Dorm Life grossmont college doesnt have dorms :(
Academic Rigor i will admit i've had a professor that his accent was not understandable and was hard to understand the class but other than that i have had an stupendous experiences with the rest of my professors they had taught me valuable stuff i never taught i would know.
Tips for prospective students prospective students!! you should always pay attention in class because if you dont you will miss something important that is going to be on the test. tests are a huge percentage of your grade so you should try to get a high score on it. always try to be on class on time; dont miss any because everyday its important. remember the professors are there to help and you can ask them anything you are paying for your classes.
In three sentences grossmont college is a fascinating school to go to i feel very welcomed to the school and feel it is a calm place to study. the new buildings look great and the campus keeps looking better everyday. there are excellent teachers at this school that are willing to help and dedicate their time to help you succeed in your educational goals; i rate this school a 9.5

Categories Comments Campus Safety Grossmont College has cameras around the whole entire campus, even in some classrooms. The school also has the Campus police that drives around the campus and the school parking lot everyday especially at night since there has been a few incidents that have occurred in the parking lot. Sometimes you will see some police officers on the second floor of the tech mall looking over the students using the computers on the first floor to make sure no one is doing anything that is inappropriate or illegal. With police available everyday, the Campus feels safe, since you'll see them walking around the campus. They're also very friendly, so if you feel unsafe or something happened, you can go to their main office and let them know.
Greek Life I am not familiar with the Greek life at Grossmont College. You can check Grossmont College's website, (www.grossmont.edu) if they have any type of sorority that you can join.
Clubs and Activities I am part of the International Club and it is a wonderful club to join, it's open to everybody even if you're not an international student. The international club has these activities that you can sign up to. The activities ranges from bonfires/bbq at the beach, going up to Julian to see the snow, Hiking, Kayaking, a Bus trip to Los Angeles. There's many activites that the International Club offers. Grossmont also has clubs for american sign language, foreign language clubs (Arabic, Spanish, etc.), if you're majoring in the health field there are different clubs to join, There are also different religious clubs. Grossmont offers an array of different clubs, and if you want to even form a club, you're welcome to. You just have to ask and fill out some paper forms to get your club started.
Great for these types of students Grossmont College is great for anyone who wants to save money by just taking their general ed. classes in a community college. If you're a nursing major and want to just get an Associate's degree, the school of nursing at Grossmont is a really wonderful program.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus We have this earthquake drill but I think all Colleges and Universities do those types of drills. Grossmont has the literary arts festival where authors come in and share their works, Sandra Cisneros came in for a reading and signing of her novels. There's always activities going on in the main quad in front of the Admissions Office and the Tech Mall. You will see people dancing, and singing. In addition, In the same quad, there are vendors who sell sunglasses, bags, jewelry, and sometimes really beautiful artworks.
Bang for the buck Grossmont is a community college so it's way cheaper to attend especially if you're just taking your general ed. classes since it is the same classes as what's offered in a University. Due to the Budget cuts, Grossmont had to increase the class fees, it used to be $26 per unit, and then $36 per unit last year, but now they increased it again to $46 per unit. It's getting a little expensive but it's still cheaper compared to paying $300 per unit at a University.
What to do for fun Grossmont is not as big as the nearby University (San Diego State University), The only thing I know that is fun to do at Grossmont is inside the Griffin center. There is this huge dining area right next to the Culinary arts kitchen and there are Flat Screens installed on the wall and if you like to kill time and like to play video games, you can bring your xbox or playstation and play video games using the flat screen TV's. You just have to ask but I am not sure who is the person in charge. I just have seen many students playing video games there.
Food and Dining The Griffin Center in Grossmont College just opened a year ago, It holds the food and dining for the students at Grossmont. It has amazing food! and the cooks are very friendly. It has the Griffin Market which sells the ready to buy sandwiches, drinks, chips, etc. They also have a starbucks like cafe that serves coffee, tea, or frappuccino for an affordable price. There's also another Food place inside the Griffin Center that you can order Italian foods, and they have a sandwich/salad station that can make you footlong subs and fresh salads. In addition, they also have another station where you can order fish tacos, french fries, burgers, breakfast burritos that is served ALL day, and oatmeal (for breakfast), etc.
Dorm Life Grossmont College does not offer dorms for its students since it's only a 2 year/ transfer college. However, there are many apartments near Grossmont College that prospective students can look into. And usually you will see flyers around the campus looking for roommates, you can also look into that; but be careful in doing so since you don't personally know the person.
Academic Rigor The most challenging at Grossmont College is probably trying to transfer in two years time. Since Grossmont is one of the many Colleges that are cutting classes, it's very difficult to take the classes you need to transfer since there are not a lot of the same classes that are available to accommodate all students who need to take the same class.
Tips for prospective students - If you have not attended college, and it will be your first time make sure to apply for admission as early as possible and take the assessment test for English and math as early as possible. - Also, submit your FAFSA early as possible in order for you to receive financial aid, since its first comes first serve type of situation nowadays due to the budget cuts. - Do your best in ALL of your classes! This isn't high school where the counseling office will check up on you about your grades, it's your responsibility to keep your GPA 3.0 or above. - Some instructors give out extra credits and/or homework that counts as part of your final grade, Do turn all of them in! it may not change your grade drastically, but it makes a small difference to your final grade. - In general, Always keep in mind that partying is not going to pay your bills in the future ! (not unless you become a celebrity) So balance college life and your social life. Remember to Party hard, BUT study harder!
In three sentences Grossmont College is a diverse college, it doesn't offer many different classes due to the budget cuts. However, the school does its best to accommodate the large amount of students who are and will be attending the college. In addition, Grossmont has a fun environment which one can truly feel welcome attending classes there many students and faculty members that are very friendly.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students This is a great college for anybody who wants to work their way into the college life, because the staff and student are very nice and can answer any question you may have if you don't really understand something.. and don't forget you will have fun at Grossmont, there is always something new every semester and cool classes that transfer with your GED.
Tips for prospective students I would recommend going to this community college then transfer to a CSU or UC school, because you will save a lot of money then if you were to go straight into a university after high school. and when you finish your last two years from a university you have what all you friends have just you paid way less, which is always nice
Bang for the buck I think the tuition for Grossmont is not bad at all but the only issue is the price for books but thats the same no matter what school you go to. and for 16.00 a unit its pretty reasonable.
Am enjoying being here I love it here, they have a nice open campuses and I see all my friends from high school. They just added a new parking structure so you never have to worry about finding a parking space like at other colleges..
Am learning a lot Grossmont is one of the best community Colleges out there. The teachers are always there for me and I am always able to get into the classes I want, even with these big budget cuts. I have learned so much and enjoy going to all my classes everyday.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students I definitely recommend students to come here first if they want to start off easy on the tuition. I applied and was accepted to San Diego State University but my mother had told me that going to a community college would be better and easier for her (regarding finance). At first I was devastated because my friends were all going to State but I couldn't afford it, and I also didn't fancy how my classmates at Grossmont were all trying to get into State, a college I had been accepted to in the first place. Now however, I am very content with the choice of going to this school first. I am saving a lot of money and I am able to transfer to any other college of my choice. This was a great transition school from highschool to real-world college. This is good for the type of student that isn't quite ready to attend a huge university. Those schools can be overwhelming. At Grossmont, it's a more calm environment with friendly counselors and professors that will aid you in preparation for college life!
Tips for prospective students Some things I recommend is definitely schedule appointments with counselors as soon as possible because they book very easily! At Grossmont the classes fill up pretty fast too so it is better to know as soon as possible exactly what classes you want to take. I also suggest exploring all the centers that the school has to offer because there are many beneficial areas of interest to student. For example, the tech mall is a building filled with computers for homework or studying. The career center is also a great place to go and financial aid office for scholarship information.
Bang for the buck At around $26 a unit, I am just able to afford college especially compared to University schools. Reading the other reviews for this school I am guessing there has been a big increase from $10 and $16 but it still is pretty good.
Am enjoying being here Grossmont has a very quiet and mellow environment. It was a real culture shock coming from a high school for the performing arts where all the students are social and there are more activities and opportunities to make friends. In community college it seemed like it was all serious business because everyone has their own different schedules and agendas-- when is there time to socialize? I at first felt miserable because all my friends were at other colleges and I found myself just going to class and coming home early and then then next day going to class and going home. In highschool I went home around seven at night with all the rehearsals I had, so it was different. However, I have learned to adapt to a more serious environment. Grossmont definitely is easy to warm up to, and academically I am very happy that I am at this community college. I am starting to make friends and it has been fun.
Am learning a lot I definitely am learning so much here at this school. This is my second year at this school and all the professors I have had are really helpful and they make subjects that would appear to be boring into really interesting material. For example, I'm not too much of a science fan but my Biology teacher has such a funny and uplifting personality and makes learning the material fun and easy. Those are definite qualities that any student would want in a teacher for better understanding in material. I actually retain the information I learn which in high school was impossible for me; a one week break from school would already cause me to forget what I learned! Overall the teachers have great teaching methods and I definitely have learned a lot.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students students needing to know the next step.
Bang for the buck you get your money's worth if you don't lag.
What to do for fun nothing on campus but the mall is a freeway exit away and the beach is a good 15 min drive.
Food and Dining we just got a brand new cafeteria built that is not even up and running but the griffen market seems to carry quick snacks, hamburgers, soup and even starbucks coffee.
Dorm Life no dorms.
Academic Rigor classes are tough to get into but once your in; your good.
Tips for prospective students make sure to stay on your work-load with blackboard because once you fall back there is no catching up.
In three sentences grossmont isn't the school for you if your looking for pride or if your really into sports. grossmont is a middle-home to help you get to know where you want to go and determine where to study. it's the push most need straight out of high school and the push that those later in life decide they too need.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There is San Diego PD on site and you will often see them cruising around in their SUV.
Clubs and Activities They try, but most of the clubs are very cliquey and religion or ethnicity based.
Great for these types of students students on a budget, or working. Returning to school adults.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Grossmont as an amazing view as it sites on the top of a mountain and over looks Santee.
Bang for the buck If you have financial aid to attend Grossmont, you can't beat a FREE education for an AA degree. Otherwise, it is still amazingly affordable for a working student at about $46 a unit (classes are 3 units).
What to do for fun Anything but hang out at school, haha!
Food and Dining The food is prepared by the students in the Culinary Art program.
Dorm Life no dorms!
Academic Rigor depends on the teacher, but most teachers i have had also teach at a State niversities or have taught at a large university in another area.
Tips for prospective students If new to Grossmont i promise you will not receive a single class thats desired and you will have to crash all the classes needed in order for a chance to be in rolled in the class. Reason for this, there are priority registration dates that specific people get to pick classes first (i.e.foreigners, SDSU students, students with high credits). SDSU accepts over the capacity of the campus and a large portion of the SDSU students have to take classes at Grossmont, but are paying triple the amount as a Grossmont student is paying for the same class. A lot for the teachers also teach at other Universities so you now that the education is comparable to that of a 4-year University. Grossmont College is great choice if you are trying to go the more economical route to a University.
In three sentences New campus is beautiful and a lot less confusing then before. The students are very diverse, either local San Diego residents fresh out of high school or new to America from the Middle East and here on a student visa. All curriculums are economically so most students don't need a loan attend.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There are so many clubs you can join on your free time and its great to meet new people and create lasting friendships. There are sport you can also join and you can also attend the sport games. The college also has movie nights which are so much fun. Trust me you wont be bored.
Food and Dining The food is AMAZING. You can choose what you want to eat from a menu and trust me there is a little bit of everything for every-ones taste. And the dining is so clean, so you do not have to worry about a messy table if you want to put your text book and study while you eat.
Dorm Life No dorms
Academic Rigor They will ask you to help out other students and be there tutor. Teachers will ask you to help them with grading.
Tips for prospective students This school is great if you work because you can attend classes in the morning or in the evening. On your first day i recommend to get to know students which are very nice and join study groups because just like you they are all there to better their futures.
In three sentences This is one of the best community colleges Ive ever attended. All the teachers and administration is so caring and are really there to help you achieve your goals. I love all of the extra tutoring and study groups they have.

Bang for the buck Definitely saving a lot at about $20 per unit.
Am enjoying being here The campus is amazingly clean compared to my high school's campus. The people are nice, as well.
Am learning a lot My current professors are passionate about what they teach. For me, that makes the class enjoyable and the subject easier to learn.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students If you're fresh out of high school, I would recommend attending here first so that you could get a feel of how college is like, but you aren't completely diving into the unknown. I was accepted in all the schools I applied to, but decided to decline and attend Grossmont first because it was a lot cheaper. I honestly don't regret it because it saved me literally thousands of dollars, I'm receiving the same education I would be getting in the first two years at those universities, and it is a smooth stepping stone towards the college experience because I'm able to experience college while having some time to really think about my decisions in where I truly want to go and what I want to pursue when I transfer out.
Tips for prospective students I suggest you research your teachers beforehand so that you aren't stressing out by the time registration comes around. Although times may be inconvenient, you would be surprised at how much of an impact a good professor has on your education, so look for the interesting ones!
Bang for the buck I cannot emphasize the extent of how much you would be saving in attending Grossmont. I have friends who are paying thousands every few months for their GE's at a university, when I'm learning similar college level material at less than $400 for the same amount of time.
Am enjoying being here I feel that attending Grossmont provided a challenge in finding connections at campus because being that it is a community college, the students are coming and going a lot sooner than at a four-year institute, however, I find it enjoyable because I really feel like I'm in control of my own education and I feel independent, which is exactly the type of experience I wanted in attending college.
Am learning a lot I didn't think that I'd find a quality education at a community college what with all the previous high school talk about how it's so easy, but attending Grossmont has really opened my mind and I also gained a lot of respect for the school because it is harder than how others make it seem. I was fortunate enough to enroll in courses that were insightful and challenging, thus gaining knowledge that really stuck even after finals were over and I was also able to find a quality education at Grossmont when I searched for it.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Walking through campus the last thing that crossed my mind was the safety. The environment speaks for itself.
Great for these types of students The environment is very diverse and I have seen students from various cultures.
Bang for the buck As an out of state student tuition is of course a bit more expensive for me; however, I really can not complain. As a Veteran I will pay close to $2500 out of my pocket for 12 credit hours. I feel satisfied with the cost especially with the new campus being built.
What to do for fun The campus is close to anything and everything you may desire. There are several beaches in the surrounding area such as Ocean Beach, Mission Beach, and Pacific Beach. Each has its own distinct feel and environment so if you are looking to change up scene and try something new there you will not be let down.
Food and Dining Once again, I have not had the opportunity to explore this part of the campus. Like I said the campus is being renovated and the buildings are extremely nice. Going off from what I have seen I would only expect the cafeteria to be as nice as the surrounding architecture.
Dorm Life I have not had the opportunity to explore the dorms, nor do I know if the Community College has a dormitory available for students. I am unable to provide an accurate answer for this topic.
Academic Rigor There is a wide variety of academic courses available to prospective students. From my understanding, Grossmont College is a place where students may attend if interested in potentially attending San Diego State University in the future.
Tips for prospective students Make yourself known on campus and get to know those who will be working with and for you during future semesters. You will find the people are extremely friendly and willing to help in any way possible.
In three sentences The Campus is a extremely clean and currently under renovation. When on campus students are provided with the college feel regardless of being an instate or out of state student. As a new student I am excited to start my attendance and meet new people.

Categories Comments Campus Safety there is always the presence of campus police in the parking lot and they have there own police station on campus and 24 hour video surveillance
What to do for fun there are many clubs on campus and a wide variety of extracurricular activities to sign up for.
Food and Dining the food is excellent there is the store which is open a majority of the day and the cafeteria which is open from 10 am to 4 pm and they offer a variety of good food and also healthy choices also.
Dorm Life there is no dorms available.
Academic Rigor it all depends on the teacher and course of study but most of the time the professors are available for help and are understanding, if you do what you are required to do you will be able to succeed in the course.
In three sentences grossmont college is a great school they offer you a wide variety of tools such as a computer lab and free tutoring to help you earn your degree and the professors are always helpful and want to help you reach success.they are also great when it comes to making the campus a nice safe environment and affordable.

Categories Comments Clubs and Activities for fun there are sport, dance, music and so money other activities. i was able to attend a music activity and it was just fantastic. the music department at grossmont college is just so wonderful. the instructors that teach the classes and that also perform with excellence.
Bang for the buck the campus is being remodeled which is great for students. not to long ago, the science building was part of a new construction project. now, the science building for example offers rooms where students can study or finish homework. overall, an exceptional work has gone into making grossmont college a great school for students to come, learn, and leave prepared.
Food and Dining the food and dining has changed a lot since i first started. i started school at grossmont college in the fall of 2005. things were not as they are now. they have recently remodeled and constructed a new cafeteria. but more than that, they have created a student center where students are able to go get food and still study. this new student center allows students in the food court to feel like they are home.
Dorm Life grossmont college does not have dorms.
Academic Rigor time and opportunity is what a student needs to overcome the rigors of the school world. many come to classrooms but few are able to overcome. first, it is valuable time that is invested. in many cases you wish there was more time to even finish that lab assignment or meet that one project deadline. investing time in the future of mastering a subject is what being a student is all about. evenly so, getting the opportunity to attend a college level education is worth so much. the chance to come to school and successfully complete every course is what many dream of. coming to school and being able to pass such high academic rigors makes me smile at the end of the day. i was able to invest time and have the experience and opportunity of a brighter future.
Tips for prospective students my first tip is to attempt to always be at your best. being your best reflects you when nobody is watching. having a good attitude, academic integrity, and paying attention is simply the beginning to what awaits if you are willing to work hard. in the beginning i did not work hard. i look back and i think about the errors that i made. the first thing that one must do as a young student explorer is to get help. find a school counselor. then make plans and goals to meet. very importantly, follow through the plans and enjoy your road through college. once you obtain the map and routes you will need, don't forget to stop by and say hello to me because i will be down the road on success lane. my sincere, good luck to you.
In three sentences grossmont college is an educator full of heart and soul. the school that i attend is able to transpire a message of light to those wanting to gain knowledge. there would not be another but grossmont college when i think of a excellence as an academic educator.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I have never had any issues with safety, as all of my classes have been during the school day. I would recommend getting to know your fellow students so that if you are taking courses at night you can walk each other to your cars.
Bang for the buck Tuition is not too bad for a public school. I believe each unit is $46 per unit.
Food and Dining The food is kind've pricey for anyone on a studen'ts budget. There is no meal plan in your financial aid award. The menu's are alright. There is a decent selection
Dorm Life This college does not have dorming facilities.
Academic Rigor I have been trying to finish college for ten yeares so my return to grossmont was difficult. I have been lucky enough to encounter wonderful teachers who have been willing to meet with me for additional instruction. College is what you make it. If you would like it to be enjoyable get involved in your education and the atmosphere around you.
Tips for prospective students Don't expect professors to spoon feed you everything that you need to know. In college you have to learn how to stay on top of your studies and teach yourself. If you are diligent you will be successful and the transition from high school will be a breeze.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I think only one person has died on campus, that I know of. And one rape incident, but it was supposedly a long time ago. The environment in general is not very hostile or competitive, and there are even some friendly people, but because it is such a diverse campus, I expect many of them to be crazies. There is campus police available, especially if your car dies in the parking lot or if you lock your keys in your locker (my friend has been saved by campus police over ten times now), and I've never felt unsafe on campus, whether it be at 8am or 8pm.
Greek Life none whatsoever.
Clubs and Activities There is somewhat of a variety of clubs, and a handful are service-based and geared towards community service and fundraising, which can be fun, but not when you're a full time science major who's juggling adult-hood and a job among many other things. Between meetings, activities, events, etc, it can be very exhausting, and student participation doesn't seem to be all that enthusiastic on a campus-wide level, but there are many different clubs that are unique and very student driven, such as the arabic club, ASL club, art club, and even a film club.
Great for these types of students Those who believe that they are still in high school, foreign exchange students, transfers from universities, moms, serious students who are not easily distracted , those who can't afford university, or want to clear prerequisite classes without being in debt for the rest of their lives, and definitely those who are creative or athletic. I think there's pretty much a place for anyone.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is an art gallery on campus, but it only features student work once a semester, which I think is a bit ridiculous, but I've seen many of the portfolios of art students here, and I think that might just be the reason why we have more guest exhibitions, although they do tend to be alumni. I had no idea we had a pool, but I guess that's a given, although I still have no idea where it is. The school itself is built on top of a huge conglomerate rock, so it's almost like a small mountain, but in the middle of east county.
Bang for the buck It gets costlier every semester per unit, unless you are an independent or former foster youth or something like that, or incredibly low income. There are many opportunities to receive the BOG waiver, but financial aid is now only for full time students. The food is somewhat reasonably priced, although nothing in the bookstore is, unless it's a scantron. Or Candy.
What to do for fun Well, since it's pretty transitional for many people, it's up to what you're interested in. The clubs are pretty sparse, but there are some events they hold regularly in the quad when it comes to holidays or the mcomm/ griffin radio students want an excuse to play really loud music that will supposedly make people want to dance. It never works, but sometimes there are concerts, bake sales, blood drives, volunteer opportunities, film showings, open mics, and people sometimes selling posters, jewelry, pretty random stuff...
Food and Dining they recently built a huge student center, unfortunately with no microwaves though! but the food offered at griffin market is okay. Since I am vegan, I can really only get fries or drinks from the cafe on the other side, otherwise they seem to have an okay selection. They definitely cater to the cravings of a college student, coffee is available at all corners of campus. Do not trust any vending machine though...
Academic Rigor I'd say more of a three and a half, but mainly because of the severe budget cuts (mostly impacting all my intended/current colleges), sometimes the teachers can be very unhelpful, but the campus in general is very nice and offers a variety of majors.
Tips for prospective students Check online for all counseling needs, make a plan early, and try to buy books two months prior to a semester if possible. The catalog and teachers' syllabi are your best friends. The counselors themselves cannot seem to be able to point students in the wrong direction, so know why you're there, and what it's gonna take for you to transfer!
In three sentences Above average when compared to most community colleges, especially here in California, but still not quite up to par when it comes to the needs of the students. Counseling, registration, and financial aid is always a hassle, but otherwise there is a huge diversity on campus among teachers and students, and very many excellent teachers. They offer a stronger science department compared to most schools, and an affordable option for those who can't afford university (quite yet.) :)

Categories Comments Campus Safety There have been a few incidents, but nothing serious. I feel when it comes to our safety the school does an excellent job. They have school police and officers keeping an eye on the campus at all times. When an incident happens the school sends out an email to inform students of whats going on and gives us precautions to take. After the incident has been solve it also sends us an email
Greek Life none
Clubs and Activities Several clubs, havent had the chance to join one due to the fact that they never work with my schedule.
Great for these types of students This college is a 1 1/2 hour trip from where I live. I have a campus thats 20 mins away, however I chose this campus because it just filled all my needs. Great school, high standards, therefore students that come here get there moneys worth. So if your serious about school and want an education worth paying for this is the college for you.
What to do for fun Isolated campus, nothing real close to it. Surrounded by houses and more houses. So if you get bored and dont have a car, well then your out of luck. You could go to the library or tech mall and try to get on a computer.
Food and Dining New cafeteria, however I'm unhappy of the food choices they offer. Same menu all the time with what I consider high prices. No nearby place (a block radius) to get something to snack on if your walking. But if you have a car some fast food places are withing minutes.
Dorm Life No dorms. Nearby apartments suited for students.
Academic Rigor Definitely feel this campus prepares you for the outside world. Helps you learn whats expected if you want to transfer. Classes of all sorts are offered to help you become a well rounded student.
Tips for prospective students Unless you have the time and you dont forget deadlines dont take an online class, at least not your first semester.
In three sentences Great campus, highly prepared to receive students and prepare them for their future. Diverse campus, therefore you learn a lot and get to meet all sorts of people. The professors are there to help you out.

Categories Comments What to do for fun I guess you can call me nerd, but I love study groups. I do not have that much fun at school. I stay focus on homework and studding!!!
Food and Dining They took out the microwaves recently because of the new Griffen Center. Nice area, but students can not afford to buy their everyday. Also, you can only use the microwave if you are a ASG member... It just not right... This is my only complaint.
Tips for prospective students One is to always go to ratemyprofessor.com to choose your professor. Also, if you think you have a learning disability, take advantage of DSPS office on campus and get tested. They are a huge help with me succeeding in college, and they are not judge mental. Last, if you have any question or you do not understand your professor, do not be shy to ask question during and after class, or during office hours. Always have your essay paper checked by tutoring center... It helps me out a lot.
In three sentences Grossmont College has been an wonderful opportunity for me to better my education and to help me get my High school Diploma. The teachers are great, and they are always willing to give you the extra help you need. College is not easy, but at Grossmont staff are always pushing you do better. Categories Comments Campus Safety I have never seen any unsafe incidents on campus. The staff is great with keeping things under control.
Bang for the buck The ASGC benefit card is definitely worth it. You can get free coffee and tea, as well as 10 or 20% off anything purchased from the cafeteria. It's only $12, and it pays for itself within the first month or two. The education you get here is well worth the price. Grossmont has amazing professors at a cheap price.
What to do for fun They have a gaming lounge, lots of computers in the tech mall, many club activities, and an awesome library. The wifi is great too!
Food and Dining Grossmont just opened a new cafeteria in the student center. It includes a wood-fired pizza place, salad/sub bar, Mexican spot, and a burger grill. Everything is DELICIOUS! I suggest getting the Southwestern salad with grilled chicken as a wrap on a whole wheat tortilla.
Dorm Life There are no dorms here.
Academic Rigor I have learned so much while attending Grossmont, especially because of how interesting the professors are. They make it entertaining, and bring out your passion for topics you never had a second thought about.
Tips for prospective students The ASGC benefit stickers really pay off if you like coffee or tea. On important topics such as transfer or your degree, talk to two counselors just to be safe, as well as doing your own research. Sit front row center in your classes, and always contribute to class discussion. You'll find that your college professors are incredibly interesting, and by taking away the distraction of people around you, you will focus more and earn better grades.
In three sentences Grossmont is amazing! The teachers that I have encountered are truly passionate about what they are doing. They have a wonderful new campus, and an even better staff.

Categories Comments What to do for fun The best future of grossmont College is their library. They have many books on a wide range of topics. Also the group study rooms makes stding with friends very accessible. They also have events that relate with international cultures which is fun and educational
Food and Dining Grossmonts cafeteria is semi-cancer causing. It has the main stream junk food we all are addicted to, all their vegetables are covered in pesticides and their food choices are not vegetarian friendly. I am disgusted that this school can sell such toxic foods to our future.
Academic Rigor Grossmonts academic rigor is not as challenging as many Colleges. One thing grossmont knows is that many students are coming from high school, which means they are not used to hard work. Grammar is not a big deal, engagement is not a must, an most difficult classes allow curves which help out on transcripts but not as a student.
Tips for prospective students The best advice I can give to prospective students is to not procrastinate on their studies. I have learned that being lazy can destroy your future. Dropping classes and not studying is the best way to get behind in your four year academic journey. Also procrastination has caused me to stay at Grossmont for four years, I could have had a bachelors of science if I was just on task.
In three sentences Grossmont College is not only a very beautiful motivating campus, it has great free resources and wonderful staff. Teachers at Grossmont are mostly highly intelligent. A disappointment I have learned to live with is that Grossmonts book store does not focus on saving students money, instead they are interested in the highest selling author because it helps give them more money.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Every where you look on campus we have security over the past couple of years we have improved not that we did not have any, but grossmont made sure every student was safe and sound.
Greek Life life is good.
Clubs and Activities Just like I mentioned before there's a lot of clubs and sports. Their is so much to offer and then again activities are a great source on staying proactive and educated.
Great for these types of students Grossmont is awesome for students who want to learn, advance there education. Students who are well motivated like my self and have goals in mind will succeed in life and in there career. I always say keep in my a goals; wrote down your needs and wants in life and at the end of the school year go back and check what you have accomplish so far.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I do not recall any so far, school just started but as soon as I get equipped Ill be more than happy to share.
Bang for the buck just when I though I was lost in grossmont I people around for help and the counselors are amazing they help you based on my interest and needs. The library is a major help for most of the students; most of the time i spend at the library studying and reading for my work.
What to do for fun Grossmont has many sports to offer I know that football and soccer are major sports on grossmont. During highschool I attended football thats something I may consider during the year. Grossmont his big and theres many friends to make, clubs and more.
Food and Dining I work monday thru friday; and I attend school after work. My sister is a great cook she helps out i bring the income she cooks and my mother joins us for dinner. My life may not be perfect but I know that as long as we help each other we will have food to eat. I do not really eat at grossmont college but I heard the services are great.
Dorm Life I actually stay at home with my sister we help each other out. My mother currently does not live with us, but we help each other as a family. As the big brother that I am i need to push my sister on attending college and helping my mother out because she struggles. I would have to say living at home is cheaper and more affordable.
Academic Rigor My current english teacher mrs. Drake has a great personality she makes the classfun and well educated. I knew that grossmont would make me reach my goals by understanding my academic goal and wants. In my academic purpose on attending grossmont it has what I needed rather than being on my previous college where I was going no wear and paying more.
Tips for prospective students Dear prospective students, in the near future if you plan on attending grossmont please contact your counselor; get as much information as you need about classes, tuition cost, funds, financial. As a current scholar I attended grossmont information and I received my classes first, i asked question and best of all the help i needed to transfer after certain units.
In three sentences Grossmont college is very helpful and unique when it comes to schools. Before Grossmont I attended a school DeVry University but it was just not what I expected. I would rather attended Grossmont get help paying for college; then after 1 year or so transfer to SDSU or USD and become more organize on wear I want to be and what I want to become as my career. I researched other colleges and Grossmont is best in class in teachers and I knew my education is important.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety is pretty strict. They constantly have police patrolling the campus some in cars and others on bikes, just constantly watching people. They are very nice as well, they know the campus very well, so if you need help trying to find a particular building they are easy to talk to and are able to help you with whatever you need.
Greek Life My campus is a community college so they don't have any sororities or frat houses on campus.
Clubs and Activities Even for a Community College I am surprised that they have many activities and programs available for students that are enrolled. They have ROTC, Band, career center programs, and many other programs that you can be affiliated with that are fun, and programs that help you with your major.
Great for these types of students I believe this school is a great place for incoming freshman students who are just now living on there own and trying to learn to be on there own, be responsible, make new friends, and mature in a adult. You learn valuable lessons of asking questions, doing things on your own and just experiencing college.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Since I just enrolled at the college I am currently not aware of any traditions or locations on the campus. And since it is a community college I don't think they have any traditions
Bang for the buck I have been enjoying Grossmont College allot, and I believe that if you want to go to a beautiful campus, where there are lots of people, sports, and great teachers in the San Diego County I encourage you to go to Grossmont college.
What to do for fun What i do for fun is play volleyball. I am currently on the Grossmont volleyball team. I have been playing volleyball since my freshman year in college and I love it, I am all about sports so that's one things that I love to do, or go workout, or run.
Food and Dining They currently had rebuilt the food center called the Griffin center and it is very nice they have more varieties of food, such as Asian, American, Mexican it is very good and its a great place to relax do some homework or do some reading before your class is about the start.
Dorm Life They don's have dorms on the campus, but they do have apartments very close to the school at the most 5 minutes away. I currently live in them now. they are very nice and peaceful as well.
Academic Rigor The academic life schedule can be hard depending on your classes and how many hours you are taking. but the key is to not overload, and cram so you don't stress out and find yourself cramming every weekend for a test on Monday. But my scheduale is very good so far i am taking business classes such as macro, health and principals of management.
Tips for prospective students Incoming students that are looking at this school, or who want to enroll, it is a great community college where there are great teachers that help you learn and comprehend all the skills you need to know for your major. They have a great variety of different ethnicity at this school along with very nice people that want to help you get affiliated with the campus.
In three sentences For the few weeks that I have been here I love the campus, it is a beautiful campus along with there beautiful weather, and they have programs for people who want to be affiliated with sports such as volleyball, basketball, track, swimming, football and many others. Some buildings were rebuilt, so the campus looks very new, almost similar to a university.

Categories Comments Food and Dining Pretty good, but a bit pricey if you don't have lots of money. Try and bring your own when you can.
Dorm Life There are no dorms.
Academic Rigor Depending on the classes, they can be very challenging. None of the classes are impossible to pass. Do your best.
Tips for prospective students Go to orientation. See your counselor at LEAST once a semester. Always make sure you're on the right track to graduate or transfer.
In three sentences Sometimes it's hard to get into the classes. Small classes mean you get to know your teachers more. I think this is very helpful.

Categories Comments Clubs and Activities many clubs and active peopel on this campus.
Bang for the buck Grossmont college is very large campus with great people and amazing teachers. Thoguh the food is a bit expensive they offer a good variety of fresh foods and hot fppds as well. There is a nice coffee spot for those who crave the caffeine in the morning. and there are several clubs one can join that are also very fun. Grossmont college is also a melting pot of individuals and after coming here you'll not only learn from the teachers but from the very students themselves.
What to do for fun they have a student lounge were you can hang out, watch tv and play video games if you bring your own system, they supply tvs =]
Food and Dining though expensive, its beats having to go out for lunch, they offer a variety of foods from healthy to pizza and hamburgers all made on the spot.
Dorm Life thre are no dorms inside grossmont college so i cant speak about that.
Academic Rigor depens on the teacher you get, so far most of the teachers i have had here have been very great and helpfull.
Tips for prospective students talk to a counselor, they are there to help you. Also, come at least 20 minutes early on your first day of class so you have enough time to check around and get to your class on time, remember your not the only one coming to school so parking might be chaotic.
In three sentences i would rate grossmont college a 4 out of five stars. Although they have great programs here, its hard to sometimes get into a class and can be a challenge especially for those who are nearing completion of there majors. Though they have made several renovations such as a new student hangout and classes, it is much better and a great place to hang out.

Categories Comments Food and Dining The Grossmont grill is affordable and great to pick up something to eat in between classes.
Dorm Life Grossmont as all community colleges does not have dorms, but if you are planning on attending, the local area has a great deal of affordable housing for students.
Academic Rigor Difficulty of classes will be just as hard as any other community college in San Diego, as these undergrad courses and GE courses are meant to prepare you for a 4 year University. Many of the teachers at Grossmont College are professors that used to teach at SDSU and UCSD.
Tips for prospective students If you are going to Grossmont College, the best place to start would be to set up an education plan if you know what your major will be, or if your still deciding on a major, explore the careers and see if there is something that interests you.
In three sentences Grossmont College is excellent college located in El Cajon. For someone that uses public transportation the ease of reaching it by bus lines helps a great deal. The campus is well maintained, and the main administrative offices are easily located.

Categories Comments Campus Safety They recently built a new parking structure (last year or so), a 3 story tall parking lot. The students drive through it like it's a race track. The parking spaces at the other end of campus are about 2 inches thinner than a standard slot. This may seem minimal, but you'll understand when you have to suck in everything just to get out your car window on either side. I have multiple door dings on my car to remind me of these times. Theft and violence aren't overly a problem, at least not that I found.
Bang for the buck It's hard for me to rate this any higher, especially since they started making the Grossmont Edition textbooks. They're basically a paperback version of the standard book, but in the 20 bucks you save (off the new price mind you), you get black and white images instead of color. Tuition is standard for southern california.
What to do for fun Nothing really to speak of, though they do have an on campus gym and volley ball set up, so if you are into sports you should be fine.
Food and Dining Drive down the 125 to the next exit about a quarter mile, go to taco bell or any other fast food joint in that shopping center right off the exit, or even bring a meal, the food is extremely expensive on campus.
Dorm Life No dorms.
Academic Rigor Nothing overly hard in any of the classes, but you must be careful on teacher selection, as there are a few teachers who seem to not understand that this is a community college, not MIT.
Tips for prospective students I would recommend check elsewhere, the Grossmont school system (including the Cuyamaca and one other campus) just seem to be all out unhelpful, and the head of the departments don't seem to wish to offer any assistance, same with the counselors.
In three sentences I really wish I could say great things about this school, but with their worry more on the school's physical look than on the classes they offer, I can't do that and maintain a good feeling. On multiple occasions in the last few months I was there I saw multiple teacher layoffs and cancellations of classes, and on the same time frame begin construction of a state of the art cafeteria and addition of several 20 foot tall palm trees (which are not cheap by any means). I wish I were still enrolled, sadly their poor choices left me unable to continue classes, as the classes I required were cancelled for good on the semester I planned to take them.

Categories Comments Greek Life Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society! This Society is very recommended for you to join! If you have a GPA of 3.5 and above you will eligible to become part of this club. More info at www.ptk.org
Clubs and Activities I wish there were more clubs on campus! The international club is one of the most fun you can join and meet new people from all over the world!
Dorm Life No dorms on campus.
Academic Rigor Teachers here are pretty nice; some of them will be hard graders, some won't, as like any other college. One thing I liked though is they all make it very clear on the first class and on their syllabus what they expect the students to do, if you don't agree you can always drop the class (not recommended at all!)
Tips for prospective students It is very hard to get classes nowadays and I have witnessed many students delaying their expected graduation date because they cannot get the classes they need. Plan your classes and soon as you can and register as soon as possible! Once you get a class at Grossmont DO NOT DROP IT! Even if your schedule is lame, stick with it! It's only gonna be for a semester and you're not gonna risk wasting too much time and money! For the rest teachers are pretty good, you won't have any problem!
In three sentences Grossmont college has an outstanding faculty in all of the departments I had the chance to take classes in. The school is a little old and might need some remodeling but it is a very good environment to study in; luckily the teacher to student ratio is never over 50 so it's never too hard to get the best from the class. Unluckily due to budget cuts they are offering less classes then before.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus security is always present. Be careful with following the parking and driving rules, as they are quick to give a ticket. I've always felt safe while on campus, so relax and enjoy the campus.
Clubs and Activities There are many club opportunities as mentioned above. The options are numerous. Many political and fun activities occur at Grossmont College.
Great for these types of students Grossmont a very diverse variety of students. You will be comfortable there, as you will see every type of person. Students seem to be there to get their education, so everyone is welcome.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The cafeteria is a great kick back locations with lots of space for students. The track is a great place to both exercise and study. Enroll in an exercise course it helps to deal with the stress of being a student.
Bang for the buck I would suggest you buy your books at Ross book store instead of the Grossmont book store. If your on public transportation, be sure to use your student ID to get your student discount. The pizza is the best thing in the cafeteria, luckily it's also the cheapest.
What to do for fun There are many groups you can sign up to join if interested. Joining in to discussions and activities in class will make your college experience better. Grossmont has events in the quad to attend and that can be fun.
Food and Dining Whew! The cafeteria food is expensive. You would be wise to bring something to eat with you if your on a budget. If your low-income sign up for the EOPS program and they give you meal tickets.
Dorm Life Grossmont College is a junior college.
Academic Rigor If you apply yourself effectively, you will pass the course. There is a site to very if the instructor is hard or easy. Don't over whelm yourself being full time, if you can't handle it just take less units.
Tips for prospective students Acquire a good report with your fellow students and instructors in your class. Be sure not to miss too many days. Don't stress yourself out too badly.
In three sentences Grossmont College offers an array of online courses, which makes it convenient for me not having a working vehicle at this time. I have had many sincerely involved instructors who seem to actually care about their students success. The EOPS program at Grossmont College is very helpful to single parents and families on public assistance.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus police does a very good job at making sure the campus is safe. In the case of a medical emergency, the nurses are friendly more than glad to help.
Greek Life There are a few active fraternities and sororities associated with Grossmont College, but I hardly noticed any student activity from them.
Clubs and Activities I personally didn't experience any of the clubs, but I would always see signs for a whole variety of clubs, such as: cross-country, bowling, and various religious clubs.
Great for these types of students Great for students who are trying to transfer to a university or still trying to decide on a major.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Just last year, Grossmont College broke the world record for the most signatures on a greeting card!
Bang for the buck You get a great education for a low price.
What to do for fun There are plenty of exercise science classes such as: soccer, tennis, volleyball, fencing, dance, weight training, and basketball that end up being a really fun experience. And you get a grade while having fun!
Food and Dining The food is pretty good! There is the on-campus Griffin Grill which makes really good burritos.
Dorm Life There are no dorms on the campus.
Academic Rigor Most of the classes are fairly easy and I learned a lot from them.
Tips for prospective students Make sure to check deadlines and try to register for classes as early as possible, because classes fill up very quickly. Also, make sure to take your English and/or Math placement test as soon as possible. Because there's a possibility that you may get placed into low level courses and that could extend your time at Grossmont College.
In three sentences Grossmont College is great for students trying to transfer. The College has a lot of really good teachers. Grossmont also has a very friendly atmosphere.

Categories Comments Campus Safety With the upgrades and remodels there is more than enough lighting throughout the campus for students attend classes at night. The presence of campus police is very helpful and can be dialed from any class room. They walked me to my car one night so I know they are around and willing to help with anything.
Clubs and Activities There are many clubs that you can join, but what I really like is that if the club does not exist, you have the opportunity and the schools help and resources to create it! As with clubs, there are also dozens of activities that you can participate in.
Great for these types of students Fear not! We have a club for just about every language and you can also utilize these clubs for obtaining any information about the school, classes, or social communications.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There are all sorts of functions that happen annually! Weather your into theater, poetry or literary works, music or art. A quick visit to the department of your interest will shed light on annual events you may want to attend.
Bang for the buck Books are expensive, but if you do your research by utilizing the book store link on the college website then you can plan ahead and find your text books used for a fraction of the price.
What to do for fun There are a multitude of clubs to join. There is always something going on at the school or off campus that may directly or indirectly deal with school. There are also quite a few social resources you can utilize. If you need something to do then just scour the college walls. There are flyer's and posters plaster all over the school.
Food and Dining This can be quite expensive.... my advice is brown bag it!
Academic Rigor Time management is my best advice here. College life for the new high school graduate can pose some uncertainty. The assignments are often found in the syllabus (handed out the first day) and although some instructors will remind students when things are due, the student is ultimately responsible for the work. There are no easy classes and you will have to set aside a lot of time for studying.
Tips for prospective students It would be very beneficial to purchase a catalog to go through so you know exactly what classes are needed. By doing this, you do not waste your time taking classes that are not needed. You should also make an appointment with a counselor to discuss transfer options because the requirements for 4-year universities may require extra classes or alternative classes that are not listed under your major.
In three sentences The Professors whose classes I have taken seem to show a genuine interest in their students successes. The counseling staff has been very informative about my options beyond the junior college level. There are many courses offered at this college.

Great for these types of students Students looking to transfer to a 4 year University, but are on a budget, Students who are from different countries, and students who did not do so great in high school and are looking for a fresh start.
Bang for the buck For only $1500 a semester, this is an amazing institution to start off at. The professors here are just as good at San Diego State and other big campuses, and a lot of the time work at different universities as well.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck I'm really bummed about the counselor situation. Picking classes with guidance is very important to me, on top of that, the counselor I spoke with was very rude and just there for her paycheck. Senseless to pick classes and then after school starts, drop them after seeing her and getting the right classes. Stupid. A** backwards.
Food and Dining It looked pleasant. Haven't eaten any of the food
Dorm Life Don't have any
Tips for prospective students They don't allow new students to been seen by counselors. That's super A** backwards. New students need guidance. That's how they keep students in colleges for years. I want to see a counselor on my choice on classes to take and they told me to wing it until school actually starts.
