Great for these types of students

Hampton University is a great school for people who need guidance and structure. During the first semester of your freshman year, you will have a curfew. There are some students that come to school to party and enjoy being away from home. Hampton provides the means to control those situations. The rules that Hampton has reminds the students of the reasons that their parents sent them off to school. I am thankful for that. I completed my freshman year with a 3.74.

    Tips for prospective students

I recommend prospective students to visit the campus and tour the dorms.l Some dorms have air conditioning and some do not. It is good to try to get to know your dorm director in advance and to form a relationship with him or her. My dorm director was Ms. Wilkins and i think she is one of the best. Your dorm director will be one of the most helpful people during your freshman year as well as your RAs. Good luck with your quest for finding the right school. I am proud Pirate!

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy the campus life. We call it our home by the sea. The xampus is very pretty. It is also filled with excitement and activities. For example, our student center containts a bowling alley, movie theatre, pool room, fitness room and a dance room. Every Friday there ie a 12:00 to 2:00. There is a dj and other activities during that time. There are sometimes concerts and comedy shows to attend. Trey Songs performed at Ogden Hall last year. Marlyn Wayans also came to campus to talk to us about the Obama election.

    Am learning a lot

Hampton University is an excellent school when it comes to academics.l The professors are very interested in their students. They provide office hours as well as email addresses in order for their students to contact them. All of my professors responded to my emails in a timely manner. I also recieved my test grades with in a 48 hr time frame. Al of my professors were welcoming and available for me to talk to if i had any concerns.

Great for these types of students

Hampton is for someone who wants to get that traditional HBCU experience. A person who is about their business and sees themselves going somewhere in the future. Set the bar high and only good things will come. You can do anything you put your mind to.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure that you schedule a campus tour and visit the dorms. Take time to do research on the school and it's history as well as the program for your desired major. Enter Hampton with an open mind and heart and be as active as possible.

    Bang for the buck

Although Hampton is an exensive school it is well worth it. The campus is to die for. Hampton is on the list of best HBCU's in the country....and that is no joke. The education you will receive is excellent. I believe that there shouldn't be a price on education because that's what is going to prepare and mold you for your future.

    Did enjoy being here

Hampton's campus is beautiful! Everything from the buildings, landscapping, faculty and staff were just amazing. Living on campus for the first year reall allowed me to get the full college experience...Dorm life, events at the student center, and althetics just to name a few were all a once in a lifetime opportunity. Nothing else can compare to college life. Hampton is very strong on family and once you become a true Hamptonian you are family. The atmosphere that surrounds the entire campus is that of love, compassion, strength, and hope. Everyone there only wants the best for you and will do anything and everything to help you reach your goals.

    Did learn a lot

Class sizes as far as the number of students is concerned are small. Which leaves plenty of room for a more interactive classroom experience as well as giving the student an opportunity for a one-on-one relationship with their teachers/professors. Students are treated as more than just a number in the grade book, teachers take pride in their work and make you (the student) their number 1 priority.

Great for these types of students

Hampton University is good for all types of students. If you were a top the of your graduating class, your will excel at Hampton. If were not the at the top class, maybe you were just an average student, you still have the opportunity to excel at Hampton.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are considering or have been accepted to Hampton University, first, congratulations. Second, this school is for students that are dedicated to their studies. Yes, we have a good time, but grades definitely come first. Finally, if you are not from Virginia and you are not use to being away from home, this is not the school for you.

    Bang for the buck

I believe that I am receiving a good education at Hampton University.

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy being at Hampton very much. As an incoming freshman a new environment took a little getting use to, but I love my school. The campus is beautiful and there are many clubs, groups and activities to choose from. I am currently a member of both the University and Concert Choirs and enjoyed the experience last year. I anticipate that this year's experience will be just as if not more fulfilling than last year's.

    Am learning a lot

I love the rigorous curriculum of Hampton University. I am intellectually challenged in the classroom as well as outside. The teachers are very invested in their students' success. They are willing to go above and beyond the call of duty to ensure that their students succeed.

Great for these types of students

Hampton University is good for all types of students. Generally everybody fits in. As long as you don't mind a few strict rules, especially freshman year, Hampton may be the University for you.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are a prospective student I recommend you visit the campus and take a campus tour. Visit the university's website as frequently as possible to see whats going on on campus as well as to get a feel of the school. The best option, I believe is to find Hampton students on online social networks and continue to ask questions about campus and academic life here on Hampton University. The best source of information is always current or past students. They're honest enough to give you the good and the bad. And when you arrive, remember you are here for school, don't get to caught up in the parties and social events. Have a good balance.

    Bang for the buck

Hampton University is one of the pricier schools and to be honest, you don't always get your monies worth. The on campus housing situation at Hampton is horrible. The dorms are very old and need updating. Half of the classrooms have chalkboards instead of whiteboards and most teachers bring their own chalk. You're paying a lot of money for a meal plan for a cafeteria that doesn't serve good food at all. It's not even buffet style like most colleges, you can't get as much as you want and the latest the cafeteria aka the caf is open is 7pm.

    Am enjoying being here

Regardless of Hampton's downfalls, I am very happy I decided to come here. I have made some of my best and closest friends here, friends that I know I will keep for life. Hampton has some of the best and most helpful students. Most are extremely friendly and upperclassmen are always willing to help incoming freshman. It's literally like a big family, most students call each other brother or sister.

    Am learning a lot

Hampton University is one of the black ivy league schools, so obviously they carry some of the top educational programs/degrees for your buck. Most students as well as professors take their education seriously and are striving to be at the top. Professors provide emails and office hours for student convince. There are a variety of tutoring programs such as math lab and foreign language lab for students needing assistance any a variety of subjects. Generally speaking, the majority of the professors seem to genuinely care about your education and want you to be as successful as possible and are willing to work with you.

    Campus Safety

There is a 24/7 police force the keeps Hampton safe.

    Greek Life

Greek life is amazing with the Divine 9 strolling through the campus during 12 to 2.

    Clubs and Activities

They're are numerous clubs and activities like student government, major specific clubs, and student leaders.

Great for these types of students

Anyt type there are every color and creed of students at Hampton.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Hampton doesn't really have any unusual traditions, but they are very traditional.

    Bang for the buck

Through the parties and extras Hampton offers its students, they really do give you a lot of bang for the buck.

    What to do for fun

The school offers a lot of fun things to do and sponsors many parties in order to keep kids from drinking. Everyone goes to these parties and I'm glad Hampton does this.

    Food and Dining

The food is sometimes amazing and then other times horrible.

    Dorm Life

Harkness Hall is the best dorm with the largest rooms, however the dorm director is very strict. James Hall is less strict and you will have the most freedom.

    Academic Rigor

As an electrical engineering major and midshipman in NROTC, the course load is extremely hard. As a freshman I had 17 credits during the fall and 20 credits during the spring.

    Tips for prospective students

Utilize your big brothers and sister they will help guide you and don't worry too much about curfew, freshman only have curfew till homecoming. In addition to this, go to pre-college you will meet a lot of people and have college credits already going into your freshman year; which makes that year so much more easier.

    In three sentences

Hampton University is an extremely strict insitution, were freshman are given a curfew and have limited freedoms. This maybe in order to have control over the freshman class and have them focus on school work, but to those who are mature, this is a nuisance. Besides this the faculty are very helpful and want to see you succeed and the big brother, big sister program is excellent and Hampton University a big family.

Great for these types of students

This is excellent for anyone. Meaning, you must a driven young man or woman willing to become the best Hamptonian man or woman you can possibly be. Athletes, musicians, singers, academics, and countless others are encouraged to come. I promise this: you will leave a better person than you came here. I have seen such an improvement in myself since I've been and I'm only a freshman. They strengthen your weaknesses and you leave a totally different person. It's definitely an amazing institution for amazing individuals.

    Tips for prospective students

If you plan to attend this institution, be sure to set yourself aside from the next applicant because it's very competitive to become an academic at this institution. Become heavily involved in high school with school organizations, academic wise, and be an advocate for community service. Become an active participant in your community because this is a family based community at Hampton. The more credentials you have, the easier it will be to be accepted.

    Bang for the buck

The tuition is absolutely ridiculous in my opinion, but it is WORTH every dime you spend. With superb dormitories, a beautiful waterfront view, mouth-watering cuisine from our historical cafeteria and the amazing education you receive, you are not losing money. YOU ARE INVESTING IT IN YOURSELF. It's definitely worth it!!!

    Am enjoying being here

College is a major and quite difficult adjustment from high school. Learning to live on your own and accepting responsibilities and being accountable for your actions are all vital in becoming an adult and this school prepares you and assists you in growing through that. Every educational institution has its downfalls or negatives, but overall I love being a Hamptonian. Being surrounded by such distinguished people and gaining an awesome education while being involve din my school, it doesn't get any better than this!!!

    Am learning a lot

Hampton University is a prestigious institution whose mission is to provide the most enriched and wealth of knowledge education possible to each and every one of its scholars. With a dignified faculty and a great academia curriculum, this university prepares its students for the workplace and corporate America with the tools necessary to achieve excellence.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for students who wish to experience diversity because of the many different backgrounds of the students.

    Tips for prospective students

If you wish to attend Hampton University it is a great and fun school. However, come with the mindset that it is not a school in which you can behave erratically because rules are enforced.

    Bang for the buck

Hampton University is a private institution which is very strict. For the money paid, the rules that are enforced are very restricting. Also, much of the staff is hard to contact which causes much hassle and grief with the students.

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy attending Hampton University. The people are very diverse and come from all over the globe. There isn't much to participate in according to extracurricular activities; however, once you find a program that is right for you it is easy to get comfortable.

    Am learning a lot

The classroom sizes differ depending on your selected major; however, the teachers encourage participation from students which creates an excellent learning environment.

Great for these types of students

Hampton U is great for any student who enjoys an urban lifestyle or the city life. While Hampton may have prominently African-American students who attend, many will find it easy to adjust to the friendly and fun environment.

    Tips for prospective students

I have some tips for prospective students wanting to attend Hampton U. First, remember to keep up with the deadlines to apply and complete your FAFSA application (financial aid application) early. Second, do your best on your SAT or ACT tests. And finally, keep your grades high and don't forget to get the best letters of recommendation from the people who know you best, such as guidance counselors, teachers, volunteer activities, jobs, etc. Good luck!

    Bang for the buck

Hampton U is a private college and is quite expensive to attend, especially if you plan to live on campus. But, planning ahead and completing your FAFSA application early will save you time and money. Though the tuition, in my opinion is expensive, the campus life experience is priceless.

    Am enjoying being here

I am actually enjoying living on campus the most at Hampton U. So far, I have met many people from all over the map, and have managed to find a variety of individuals who share the same interests as I do such as basketball, music, and the debate teams (if politics are interesting to you). The students, as well as the staff, are fun to be around and are very helpful with making it easy to adjust to the environment and vibe of the university. I enjoy being a member of the Hampton family.

    Am learning a lot

I am a current student in my freshman year of college at Hampton University. Here, I am learning not only about English, Math, or Biology... but, I am also learning a lot about becoming a professional, young man. At Hampton, there is NO TOLERANCE for sagging pants and positively NO HATS are allowed to be worn by young men inside of the buildings. While the campus police and staff work hard at keeping this action enforced, I find it amusing that the men that had the most trouble abiding by this rule, are now coming around to dressing for success. Go Hampton!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

A very well known tradition there is the Hampton Runaround Unfortunately, every student has went through it once, twice or even more. This tradition is in full affect usually occurs the most when a student has to handle some sort of business, weather it deals with financial aid, scholarships, class adding/dropping etc. Documents at Hampton require several signatures, and the signatures you need will not all be in the same building. Trust me! So wearing your comfortable clothes and shoes, because the runaround is serious.

    Bang for the buck

Hampton University is very expensive. Though yours monies worth is solely on the student and parent. In which they have two choices to either squander the opportunities and money or to take advantage of the opportunity and become of that our parents, guardians, and supporters want from us.

    What to do for fun

The campus is filled with fun activities. a host of clubs and memberships. The students is great place to meet and greet and listen to latest music at our very own 12-2 session that we Hamptonians have regularly. Everyone at Hampton enjoys at least 2 or 3 Ball/Holland Party. Having fun in college is to one's own desecration, just keep in mind to have fun, be safe and be smart.

    Food and Dining

The cafe. After a day with 3 or 4 classes 2 test, and a lab, you hungry and The Cafe is the best. Honestly, it has the days where you must order out in order to get over the starvation phase. However, the conversations, the positive oar that surrounds everyone there is truly amazing.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life can have it's up and downs. Being put with a room mate who you just seem to can't see eye to eye happens, though in your dorm room or even just in your building you meet some of your best friends, and these friendships will last lifetimes.

    Academic Rigor

The proffessors at Hampton, or least the one's that I had are pretty understanding, flexible and considerate. The academic rigor, I believe is fair. Professors for the most part give ample amount of time to prepare for big assignments and test. They grade fairly, and the workload isn't impossible.

    Tips for prospective students

Be Yourself, You can't change who you are, but I can only get better. Stay focused and remember what goals are important, yes college is the most exciting years of your life though distractions and peer pressure come in abundance, which makes prioritizing key. Don't grow up to fast, a since of adulthood tends to kick in majority of young college students. I can honestly say I needed my parents a little bit more when I was away then when I was actually at home.

    In three sentences

Hampton University is a place where young adults can and have blossomed into great achievers. The campus life is amazing, and the professors, faculty and staff are second to none. Hampton University is a complete atmosphere of what success, perseverance and hardwork make our Home by the Sea the best!

Great for these types of students

Great for anyone that is ready to break out of their shell.

    Tips for prospective students

Just be yourself and join as many clubs as possible. It is college so have fun but stay on top of you school work.

    Bang for the buck

The food is good and the dorms are nice. The classes are great and the people are wonderful. I feel that the tuition is worth it all.

    Am enjoying being here

I love being at Hampton. It is in a rural area but there is never a dull moment. I think since we have people from every where like CA, FL, TX, NY, NJ and the other 45 states you learn a lot about different musics, styles , dances and even food. It is an awesome experience. There is Greek life on campus so it is always exciting to see them stroll or stomp. Hampton is defiantly the HBCU to attend.

    Am learning a lot

The classes are small so you get that wonderful one on one experience with your professors. The professors are passionate about their job. What I enjoy about my classes is that the teachers don't read from the textbook they give examples from their own lives. The teachers have office hours so if you need extra help they are free to help.

    Campus Safety

Hampton University is not by any means, an open campus and this allows me to feel safe at all times.

    Greek Life

After seeing movies like Stomp the Yard and even researching Greek Life, i had very high expectations. Unfortunately HU did not meet those expectations in their Greek area.

    Clubs and Activities

Hampton University is home to many great athletes; dancers, cheerleaders, football players and of course basketball players. The only thing we need more of is school spirit and it is up to HU and their students to do something about it. HU students are very dedicated when they have a reason to be.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The best location on campus is the waterfront. It offers a beautiful view of amazing sunsets and sunrises. One section of it as my best friends and myself call it The Oasis of Peace offers a serene place where I can spend alone time with my thoughts or enjoying the company of a special someone.

    Bang for the buck

Although I do not exactly have the money to attend Hampton University, I chose this school because I knew it would lead me to personal growth as well as a professional one. On a social level I have joined one of the best dance teams belonging to a college: Majestic. Overall I am glad I chose HU and I will do anything to make sure I remain there.

    What to do for fun

Hampton University is not a boring school but it is located in a boring area; Hampton, VA. I enjoy spending my team with my best friends and joining a dance team known as Majestic. Social Networking is great for friendships, business and even educational success.

    Food and Dining

The worst part about the school is probably the cafe food. Although sometimes their food is good, I am very tired of baked chicken and rice and most of their food has no seasoning. The cafe ice cream is great and the staff is as well. I have made some friends in the staff with some of the young as well as the older staff members and for that I am grateful.

    Dorm Life

Although Hampton University is a very old school, with building being somewhat run-down when compared to the new ODU; i love attending HAmpton University. Dorm life is an experience between meeting new friends and making life-long partnerships. I have also made it a habit t befriend the people in my dorm to make life easier, when dealing with friendships and group projects and even study sessions.

    Academic Rigor

As my high school pre-warned me, there are many foreign professors. In this case it is my job as a student and an adult to stay on myself to work harder and even stay on my teacher to help me succeed. The best thing about my teachers is they do not baby me but push me to reach heights even higher than I thought I could achieve.

    Tips for prospective students

The best tips is to manage your time. College is so different than high school, meaning much more responsibility and experience makes you mature and grow much faster. It is your job as a student to maintain your grades, your social image ( and yes networking is very important) and your financial status.

    Campus Safety

hampton's campus is a very safe campus. in fact, most of the campus is gated and the campus itself is surrounded by the hampton bay.

    Greek Life

greek life at hampton u compared to other schools is not too good. there are many multicultural fraternities and sororities, but there are not many legit greek houses. there are a few fraternities and sororities that seem to always be suspended as well. i rate greek life a 5 out of 10.

    Clubs and Activities

there are clubs and activities for anyone and everyone from the student leaders program to greek life, there is always something to join. there are even clubs for for home state and clubs for your major.

Great for these types of students

if you are ethnic, love culture, enjoy small towns, and small student teacher ratios, hampton university is the school for you.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

there are so many unusual traditions that hampton u has i do not know where to begin. first there is always a freshman week. this week is dedicated to getting to know your classmates and your school. there is always a ceremony at ogden hall which requires you to wear ogden attire. also, the number one rule is to never run across the ogden circle or you will be cursed and will not graduate. next, there is a group called the student leaders which help students and conduct student activities.these leaders are usually assigned to be a freshman's big brother or big sister meaning if you have any questions, concerns, or just need a ride to the store they are here for you. traditionally, freshman eventually meet other upperclass man and choose their on big brothers or sisters. there are so many more traditions, but i rather let you find that out if you choose to come to hampton university.

    Bang for the buck

a great way to save money is if you are staying on campus make sure you eat at the cafeteria 3 times a day. missing cafe hours can be costly because you then will feel the necessity to order chinese or pizza and that will accumulate at the end of the semester. additionally, the school will give you gourmet dollars which you can use at 3 student center vendor locations. this is your money that comes with your meal plan, therefore use it! lastly, if you are staying off campus, you must know that groceries add up and if you have a roommate sharing groceries can be just as costly as buying groceries separate. a great suggestion is buying your groceries separate and buy in bulk. bj's, sam's club, and costco are great money savers.

    What to do for fun

there are not too many things to do on campus for fun except the one thing every college student looks forward to do, party. there are always parties on campus and off campus in the appartment complex accross the street. in addition, the other few little recreational activities that hu offers are bowling and the game room. if you are looking to do something off and away from campus there is a promenade mall called the pennisuala town center filled with shops, stores, and restaurants. there is a local movie theater not too far from the mall as well. usually, students like to visit neighboring schools such as old dominion university, norfolk state university, and virginia commonwealth university, for events and parties as well.

    Food and Dining

the cafeteria at hampton u is very popular, but not because the food is good. many students complain about how bad the food is, spoiled food, not enough options, and poor quality. although the cafeteria is known to have horrible food, the administration is well aware and started a building fund to build an new cafeteria. they have started building and the estimated year of completion will be the year of 2014. hopefully, from the looks of the building as of right now, it seems that the building may be done by 2013. we are all waiting!

    Dorm Life

dorm life at hampton university is one of its worst qualities. since hampton u is a historical university, it is very very old and the buildings and dorms are proof. the dorms are old, dirty, and some do not have air conditioning. the bathrooms are old an are moldy and unsanitary. most students who can afford to move off campus do so after there freshman year. on a more positive note, there are a couple of nice dorms for honors college students, and the dorm directors and resident assistants are wonderful. they look out for you and make sure you have everything you need to stay comfortable. no place is perfect, but a good ra or dorm director could make your dorm experience great.

    Academic Rigor

hampton university's academics are good, and i feel like they are constantly changing and trying to make the school more efficient. there are some good and bad teachers at hampton, but every school has its bad teachers. hampton's scripps howard school of journalism is known for their outstanding performance. hampton's 5 year mba program is also very popular and produces equipped business graduates. overall, i do love my school and enjoy learning here at hampton university.

    Tips for prospective students

explore your options!!! i cannot stress this enough. hampton is great, but it is not for everyone. in fact, hbcus in general are not for everyone. therefore, take a trip and visit hampton u before accepting your acceptance letter. visit on a regular day and not on high school student day or days they have big events because 9 times out of 10 you will make a decision based on how much you enjoyed that one day at hu and become disappointed when you realize that hampton u is not as fun as you thought it would be.

    In three sentences

hampton university has a beautiful campus, but unfortunately like most hbcus, hu has a horrible administration office. there is never a solid answer to any problems regarding issues with the school and if you have a question or issue it will not be resolved until you go through all of the offices. the campus is historic, but needs to be restored and the education seems sub-par compared to other colleges.

    Campus Safety

The campus is very safe. Police cars are always strolling the streets.

    Greek Life

the Greek Life is great. A lot of sororities and fraternities have just come back this year.

    Clubs and Activities

There are plenty of clubs and extracurricular activities to become involved in.

Great for these types of students

If you love to socialize and network this is the school for you. If you are introverted upon entering the school , you will become more extroverted as you progress at the school.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

It is said that if any individual who has not graduated from Hampton University walks across Ogden Circle, they will not graduate on time. i don't know if it's true but I'm not about to test the theory.

    Bang for the buck

It's best to carpool or get a big brother or big sister who has a car because taxis can become very expensive.

    What to do for fun

There is always a party on the weekends. Also the peninsula and movie theater are not far away. There are plenty of clubs and activities to become involved in.

    Food and Dining

The school has just opened their new cafeteria. This cafeteria has an awesome view and the food has it's up days and down days. It is mostly good though. There are other places to dine that are either on campus or close to the campus.

    Dorm Life

I love the dorm life. I am currently staying in Twitchell Hall and we have one of the best lobbies and we are one of the best freshman girls dorm.

    Academic Rigor

The course work is relatively easy as a freshman. As you get more and more into your major your course work will increase.

    Tips for prospective students

Do not be easily influenced by the crowd and what everyone is doing at the time. Pay close attention to your freshman year because it gets harder after this year.

    In three sentences

Hampton University definitely goes by it's motto which is the Standard of Excellence. This University holds a plethora of opportunities. Any individual can succeed here.

    Campus Safety

Campus safety is great. There is a 24/7 security check at the front of the campus ensuring students safety. ID is a must. There are also health care services available to students who need it. In addition, Hampton has 24 hour foot and vehicle patrol making sure students are adhering to the rules of the University and that temporary outsiders are acting accordingly. There is also a text-alert where students can receive updates from the university's police department.

    Greek Life

Greek Life at Hampton is exciting! Some complain that there isn't enough, but Hampton's goal is to keep you focused on why you are there. Greek like is balanced out. Not too much, not too little. The Greeks get specific weeks to themselves as the year progresses and hold variety of events and activities at the student center engaging as much students as they possibly can.

    Clubs and Activities

There are various clubs and programs at Hampton. Some fall under a specific department. For example math club would fall under the mathematics department. There's choir, science clubs, honor societies, Caribbean organizations as well as African, Army ROTC, Navy ROTC, student leadership and many more organizations. There's a wide range of things to get involved in.

Great for these types of students

Hampton University is great for social students and quiet students. Social students will be most often looked at as the life of the party, but don't get them wrong. They know when their work is to be done. Conservative students are also contributive because the balance out the institution making it a great place to seek and achieve independence. You can't go wrong at Hampton!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Freshman have to attend Ogden a lot of times during freshman week and throughout the year. Informational events are held here and the attire is always business or casual. Also, from about 5-8 on various days the Greeks show out by Ogden and VC (which is a freshman girls dorm). Bemis is the architecture lab and here you will always find students studying, finishing projects and working hard in the wee hours of night. You might even catch the sleeping there!

    Bang for the buck

Freshman orientation is one of the greatest times of the year for new Hamptonians. It is filled with events ranging from concerts to meet and greets. It is where many freshman meet their potential friends for a lifetime. The student leaders make it very exciting and try to get you feel comfortable at your new home. It is also very informative, letting you know about the campus, the legacy and principles upheld.

    What to do for fun

At Hampton, there is a weekly party at the student center from 12-2pm. That is usually a taster before the weekend where other parties will be held. Upperclassmen also usually hold parties and Greeks. There is also a party called the HU cab which runs a couple times. It is a classy event and a rewarding one to spend with friends. All lot of students spend the weekend out at the peninsula where they can go shopping and grab a bite.

    Food and Dining

The food at Hampton is satisfactory. There will be days where the food is better than others. Common food served are cheeseburgers, fries, chicken, fish, fruits, salads and more. As my first year came to an end the Student Government Association worked on getting better foods served at the caf and it was a success. Hot wings , Buffalo & teriyaki wings were served and it made the students happy. Also ice cream with variety was served. A lot of times students eat out or order out. So theres many choices to choose from. All in all, students who attend Hampton university can cope with the food and dining.

    Dorm Life

Dorm Life is fun. You get to meet people from different places and share great times together. Dorm coordinators usually come up with events hosted at your dorm so everyone can interact. You do have to share bathrooms however. Sometimes that can be an issue, but that is common among college dorms. At Hampton, freshman must adhere to a curfew at 11pm for the first two months until Homecoming unless your an architecture major like me of course. Projects must get completed! Luckily, the good out weighs the bad overall living at Hampton, so there's nothing to worry about.

    Academic Rigor

Hampton University does have tedious courses, but it depends on how well you are in a particular subject to depend on how well you will do. In my opinion, the courses that are the lightest work are the ones of that are in your freshman year. However, because they are lighter in work doesn't mean you should take your work for granted.

    Tips for prospective students

-Be open minded to knew and different people and potential experiences. -If your grades start to slip, speak with a counselor immediately. -Don't be afraid to get involved. -Try to maintain a positive mindset. -Complete scholarships!

    In three sentences

Hampton University is a diverse institution with a meaningful legacy and beautiful campus. It is a great college to learn the essence of professionalism and importance of upholding principles. While Hampton is about business, it is also a place to socialize, interact and learn about students and facilitators from different places.

    Campus Safety

Hampton University has it's own police department that definitely puts the student's safety first and have no problem calling back-up if there is a situation that requires more staff. They are constantly walking and driving around campus to ensure our safety. Hampton is also a gated community, in which cars must have decals to get on campus.

    Greek Life

Hampton's Greeks are very involved. By the first month, you know who all of them are. Every week we have a gathering called 12-2 where the Greeks stroll and hang out. We do not have frat houses but as said before, they are still very involved.

    Clubs and Activities

There are numerous clubs and activities to partake in at Hampton. Of course there is Greek life, but outside of that every major has at least one club or organization that they have. Other clubs would be American Red Cross, NAACP, Women's/ Men's Caucus, Resident Assistant Association, Student Government Association, and Student Leadership Program.

Great for these types of students

Hampton is great for students who are looking to cater to their mind, body, and spirit. At Hampton, college is a universal experience. One that can;t be explained in words, you just have to witness it for yourself.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

As mentioned before our campus is a historic landmark, so anywhere you go there are interesting things. Some of my personal favorite locations on campus would be the water front. Hampton is surrounded by water on three sides, it is myth that if you walk the entire water front with someone you will later marry them. Ogden circle is another favorite. Flags from different countries surround Ogden circle. each of the flags represent all the different nationalities represented at Hampton University. We are so diverse that they have to switch them out sometimes because we ran out of flag polls. AnotherHampton myth is that if you walk through Ogden Circle you will not graduate on time. After graduation, the seniors have a big ceremony at Ogden circle where they walk through and take pictures.

    Bang for the buck

Hampton is a private institution, so it is expensive. However, if you take advantage of all the opportunities given, it can be worth all the money you pay and more. Our career center is one of the many things people take for granted. They are constantly sending us emails about internships, job opportunities, and scholarships. If you make a connection with them and make sure you are always seeking new opportunities, they will definitely help you.

    What to do for fun

Hampton is what you make it, and who you know. There is always something to do, you just have to get involved. Every week is dedicated to a different organization that have programs/ events for every day. These events can range from skate parties, pool parties, dating games, to educated forums.

    Food and Dining

The food that is served at Hampton University is, well, food. It really is not bad but, like all Colleges, you start missing your home cooked meals after a while. We are currently in the process of building another cafeteria which is right on the water, I'm assuming the food will be even better once in the new location.

    Dorm Life

While Hampton is a very prestigious school, it is a national historic landmark. With that being said, most of the buildings are historic, including dorms. They aren't awful but I would love to see them renovated. The problems that arise in the dorms allows for bonding time however.

    Academic Rigor

Hampton University's academic programs prepare you for all aspects of life. Most teachers really care about your success and are willing to work with you outside of class if you need the help. While the work can be intimidating at times, it makes you a person who knows how to manage time, complete tasks, and communicate effectively.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are looking for a college where you can grow internally and externally Hampton University is the right place. You're always assigned a big brother or big sister, take advantage of them! They are there to help you reach your full potential.

    In three sentences

Hampton University is an amazing school that gives it's students amazing opportunities. I can honestly say the students and faculty are a family, where both care about the well-being and success of others. The networking opportunities are endless and unavoidable, exactly what college students need.

Flexible, willing to adapt, sociable, and grounded.

    Dorm Life

The relationships you will make in the dorm are more significant than people think. It is not a very comfortable living environment for freshmen but the dorms make for good memories.

    Tips for prospective students

    In three sentences

It is very much more expensive than what it is worth and the administration staff is a bit unprofessional and unorganized. There is a family environment that is appreciated by the students, which is good. It reaps many networking benefits for future reference as well.

    What to do for fun

There is a party every weekend just about. In the fall, there a lot of block parties. As it gets cooler parties move in door to the ballroom, but the best parties are a holland.

    Food and Dining

About three miles down the highway there is a place called the Penisula home to a lot of eateries to buy food from or to to dine with friends or family in time. There is a Chipotle, a Hampton favorite, Boston market, taco bell and such, some restaurants include Hooters, Olive Garden, and Red Lobster. On campus there is the local cafe, Chik-fil-a, Tropical Smoothie, and Pirate Grill.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is equivalent to life. Freshman start off in the bottom with so-so conditions but with hard work, diligence and patience one can live in a larger-than-life dorm; just like in life where you have to work from the bottom to get to the top. We call the nicer dorms the Trump Suites because they are so beautiful and nice to live in like the actual Trump hotels, truly a reflection of success.

    Academic Rigor

Hampton is known as a black ivy league institution. Students here, grow into educated, well rounded, successful African-Americans ready to take on society. For example, several times a year Hampton implements mock workshops for proper interview etiquette, dining etiquette and is a firm believer in business attire dress code for all professional settings.

    Tips for prospective students

Hampton is a wonderful school to attend to learn who you are, what your interested in as well as an education. The first two years are the most important because you not only want to build a solid GPA immediately but need to build a solid social life too; at Hampton it's not always what you know but who you know.

    In three sentences

I love my HIU! Nobody has school spirit like Hampton. Due to the school being so small students band together and support each other with free promo, flyers, and social networks, should've seen us cheer for our fellow Hamptonian Olympian this 2012 summer!!

Their chants can be heard through the breeze off the sea and the winds through the trees. Listen!

Every student should have the opportunity to live on campus. It is an experience you will always remember.

    What to do for fun

We have game nights or movie nights with our dorm. Sometimes a few of us get together just to chat all night about anything and everything. You learn so much about people during these chats.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria dining on campus is great. But, we also do a lot of food deliveries from off campus food joints, especially on the weekends. So, watch out for the weight gain. Exercise and make healthy choices.

    Dorm Life

It was great buying and decorating my first home away from home apartment. This is the time I have been on my own without my mom. And it is great having a roommate to express your decorating ideas with. We have lots of fun!

Classes has not begun, yet. But, I suggest you have a master plan as to our to manage your studies and social life. Make sure you have your priorities in order and the reason you are in college is at the top!

    Tips for prospective students

Take one day at a time and breathe. Connect with an advisor or counselor on campus that can help you maneuver through all the newness of being in the real world. And apply for scholarships during your high school junior and senior years it will ease a lot of the financial pressure.

    What to do for fun

I find great enjoyment in partiicipating in my sorority activites. This past semester I went through the membeship intake process. I have formed great friendships with many new people and become much more active in campus activities

    Food and Dining

The food was good at times but I believe it was laced with laxatives as I always needed to use the bathroom immediately following my meal. We currently have a beautiful cafeteria with large widows looking out to the water and the food has improved. We have a salad bar which is ample with variety. They tend to serve soul food like fried chicken and waffles on Sundays.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is not the greatest. You will have a roomate and many of the rooms are small. The bathroom facilities leave a lot to be desired. We recently got washer and dryers in some of the dorms. When I was on campus I had to schlep all my laundry across campus. No personal automobiles allowed freshman and sophomore years.

    Academic Rigor

The academics are challenging especially when you first arrive. The required courses require a great deal of work reading and writing and some courses are more tests.

    Tips for prospective students

I would strongly suggest you come prepared in your Freshman year to really focus and work hard on the required courses completion. The social life will always be there donn't over do it. I have seen too many students not make it after the first two semesters because they were partying too hard.

The Greeks are active on the campus of Hampton University. The sororities include but are not limited to the AKA's, the Delta's and the Zeta;'s. The fraternities include but are not limited to the Que's, the Kappa's and the Alpha's.

    Clubs and Activities

There are plenty of clubs and activites on campus. Almost every student at Hampton by their sophomore year is in a club. It is also easy to create a club of your own if you'd like.

Great for these types of students

Hampton is great for students willing to try a brand new lifestyle. There are so many different types of people that come to Hampton, and we all mesh into one big family. The only way to know if Hampton is for you is to come.

One of the most well known locations on campus is the waterfront. The waterfront can be home to gatherings by day and couples by night. It is rumor, that if you and a certain someone walk the entire waterfront path together, that you will get married.

    Bang for the buck

Hampton University is rather expensive. Instead of paying for the best facilities and top notch books with top notch professors, one is paying for the tradition, prestige and power of having a Hampton University degree. However, the tuition could be knocked down a few thousand dollars.

    What to do for fun

Hampton, Va is not exactly the most fun place to be. In order to have fun most students travel to surrounding cities such as Newport News, Norfolk, Virginia Beach and Richmond to have fun. Having fun is what you make it, Hampton does have a beach close by and movie theaters and roller rinks.

    Food and Dining

Hampton University has a brand new dining facility that is gorgeous and located at the entrance of campus. The student center offers the fan favorite Chick-fil-a Express and a Starbucks like cafe, as well as the Pirate Grill. There are good food places in the surrounding areas of campus, the most popular is Chipotle.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is not the greatest at Hampton. After freshman year, most students are ready to move off of campus. However, there are many dorms that are very nice that students do not take advantage of simply because they are so lowkey.

    Academic Rigor

Academics truly depend on your major, however there is no such thing as an easy major. The professors at hampton very from easy to very hard don't take them, but it all depends on how you learn. Take academics seriously.

    Tips for prospective students

There are a few things as a freshman, that students may have to adjust to, but the adjustments are definitely tools to success. Be aware that Hamptonians are there own breed, and to be a Hamptonian is an honor that will truly take you places. Take every opportunity offered at Hampton, make yourself known.

    Greek Life

Greek Life is amazing! I am an AKA and I love every bit it of. Not only do we have the Divine Nine Organizations on campus, but we have band greeks, honors greeks, etc. Being a Greek is so much more than just wearing the colors and getting a name. One should be very passionate about what he or she wants to join, and one needs to be prepared to put in a ton of work and time. This is a lifetime commitment. And it is something that I am 110% dedicated to. :)

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

At Hampton we have a week dedicated to each organization on campus which is fun. During those weeks different activities and programs go on to inform you and get more people to join. Each Greek organization also has a week, and those are always entertaining and fun. We also have an annual Battle of the States competition to give freshman the opportunity to strut their stuff down the runway and show off their dance skills to rep their region. There is so much more!

    Bang for the buck

Yes, Hampton is worth the money! The main purpose of college is to learn, study, and come out with a degree. The teachers here will prepare you for that.

    What to do for fun

Everyone's definition of fun is different. We have sports games to attend, fashion shows, dance shows, step shows, open mic nights, an open game room, weekend parties, and a shopping outlet with several movies theaters and restaurants near by.

    Food and Dining

The food is pretty good. Our new cafeteria just opened up in august of 2012 which was definitely a step up. We also have small fast food places around campus where you can eat from too. So we have a small variety.

    Dorm Life

The dorm life is average. Some dorms are nicer than others, which is a given. Just be positive, keep your area clean and make sure your floor mates do the same!!

    Academic Rigor

Hampton's academics will vary according to one's major. The basic fundamental classes are challenging at times, but nothing that cannot be understood or overcame.

    Tips for prospective students

You should definitely come to Hampton! Our campus is slowly evolving into something great, between the new buildings, the new majors, and the new organizations. College life is what you make it, so do not listen to people who say Hampton is boring. It is only boring if you MAKE it boring and sit around doing nothing. Go out and party, take a cab to the city or the malls, or get involved in an organization on campus. This is an amazing school. Make sure you are prepared to work and you do not go wild your first semester, I have seen many people drop out or flunk out because they did not balance their school work properly.

    In three sentences

Hampton University is a very historical school. There are so many majors, and things to do to get involved. I would definitely recommend this school.

    On-campus or off-campus

    Tips for prospective students

If you're looking to come to Hampton, you should visit the campus. Tour guides are regular students here that show you around to the different buildings and show it's history. The best time to come is High School day because you're more interactive with the campus over a course of a couple days rather than just one day. Homecoming is also a great time to come check out what Hampton is all about.

    Bang for the buck

Hampton is a very expensive school and books and supplies have to come out of pocket, but to me it's worth it. Any where you go you'll have to struggle with something. The only thing that really matters is what you get out of it and that's your education.

    Am enjoying being here

I live right on campus and the campus is beautiful. Of course like any other college it has it's flaws, but it feels good to wake up every morning to see the water right outside the door. Also, meeting new people here is really cool. It is made up of predominantly black students, but they are all from different parts of the US even the islands. There is still a diverse side with Caucasians from different countries. I met people all the way from Bulgaria!

    Am learning a lot

I really love the education here. The professors here are very helpful and explanatory. They help you to understand what's going on in class. I really enjoy all my classes even though there is a lot of work.

    Tips for prospective students

Always be alert and listening. Remember to bring a black suit and some dress clothes for Ogden events. Visit the campus to make sure its right for you. Question current students about their experiences. Be careful in the Harbors!

    Bang for the buck

Hampton is pretty pricey but it is a private school. The work and life lesson's you get out of it are very helpful though. If you are not serious about getting your education and you just want to party then paying that much is not worth it.

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy being a Hamptonian. O f course campus living is not the best but it is dorm living so you have to adapt. At Hampton it is all about who you know, so it cause you to become very social.

    Am learning a lot

Being a Hamptonian you learn a lot. They way you learn things are through the hard way, you have to get it and get it quick because they can be very serious. The important things like how to perform in a business world and how you should look and dress are just a few of the good things they teach here.

Great for these types of students

Hampton University is great for the student that would like to experience living amongst students from all different regions of the U.S. It is also the ideal atmosphere for the student that likes a warm family-oriented environment. Upon arriving as a freshman you are assigned someone called a big brother or big sister, and they voluntarily help you throughout you're undergrad years in ways you couldn't imagine.

    Tips for prospective students

Prospective students incoming freshman as well as transfer should look to Hampton as a new opportunity, a difference from their current higher education institute and opportunity, and a place they can call home. Don't be afraid to ask why, make good friends throughout the campus, as well as keep in touch with superiors in each department on campus. Step outside of your norm and be aggressive at the things you wish to achieve. Set goals for yourself and do not be afraid to ask for help to get you there. After all, it is a community.

    Bang for the buck

It is very known that Hampton is a quite expensive school to attend. Most of it's students are out of state, and believe it or not, the cost for in state is exactly the same as out of state. In a sense it is fair that way, but then again it is a private institute. The education matched with the tools for survival as well as netorking opportunities one can receive here make it all worth it.

    Am enjoying being here

Upon first arriving as a Freshman you'll think its lame that they require freshman to abide by a curfew until right before homecoming. What makes it fun is that you don't have to go it alone. Your other incoming Freshman friends are dealing with it too. It forces you to make friends early on as well as focus more on your academics, and entering into the University with a great GPA. I finished out my freshman year with a GPA of a 3.8 The campus is gorgeous, with a view of the Chesapeake Bay, and historical timeless buildings. They say the friends you make here are lifetime friends, and the truth is, that they are right.

    Am learning a lot

The class sizes are not all that huge, which makes it extremely easy to get to know your professor, which of course would be in you're best interest. The professors are all different of course, but when it boils down to it a class and grade average is really what you as the student make it. Not only do you learn academically, but Hampton provides you with guidelines on how to survive in the real world, especially the professional work world. It provides you with the discipline and tools to be ready for the next stage upon graduating.

    Food and Dining

The food is not the best, it needs a lot of improvement. The food needs to be handled in a more sanitary way. The Cafeteria has opened up at more beneficial hours, but food variety would really make a great difference.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life needs a lot of improvement because of the age of the School. Renovations would be nice because of the type of money that students put into the School. The dorms would also be better if they would enhance the electrical surges in the building so that students would be allowed to bring refrigerators.

    Academic Rigor

The classrooms are very small and it allows you the opportunity to get to know your classmates as well as your professors. Academics are very important and your professors will work with you if you are willing. Online homework assignments can be challenging but you have tutors to assists you with your most challenging of work.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are a prospective student you really need to stay focused. Stay on top of important priorities like laundry, homework and money; and keep your social life and academic life balanced. Hampton is as fun as you make it.

The cafe food is not good. Your best bet is to eat at the student center but that will eventually get boring and you will end up ordering out almost always.

    Dorm Life

Not the best at all. Very old and that could be hazardous.

    Academic Rigor

There are good programs at the school and some of the teachers are cool. Your best bet is to be involved in class activities or work and try to form a good relationship with your teacher. Get noticed.

    Tips for prospective students

The best way to find out the real truth about Hampton is to talk to current students. We will tell you things that the school administrators won't.

    In three sentences

The night life is definitely exciting. The campus is beautiful but very, very old-fashioned and traditional. There are many things that can be improved within the campus, but the overall experience is not so bad.

    Campus Safety

The campus is a closed campus. People can't come on without a guard checking their ID. This can be a hassle... but in the end, it's for your own safety. You should still keep yourself safe by locking doors and never walking by yourself at night.

    Greek Life

Hampton University has all 9 of the Divine 9 (NPHC) , plus a band sorority, music fraternity and sorority, and nursing sorority. There are also many academic fraternities.

    Clubs and Activities

There's an activity for everyone. I was in my states pre-alumni club (every state has one), I was involved in dance team and band (there are 3 dance teams) and there are many other sports and clubs for everyone. Check out the school's website for more info.

Great for these types of students

I've seen every type of student at Hampton University, but one thing that I have noticed is that HIU is full of beautiful people.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Rumor has it that if you walk across Ogden Circle, you won't graduate on time... and it's kind of true! Always be in proper attire when attending an event in Ogden Hall... no jeans allowed.

    Bang for the buck

Hampton University is a private school, so it may seem to cost a lot, but it's worth it. You have to do your work and make sure you get the best out of the experience.

    What to do for fun

In Hampton, you have to make your own fun. There are plenty of parties to choose from and many cabarets to attend. You will learn how to have fun anywhere, which is a very useful skill.

    Food and Dining

There's a new cafe, so I'm not sure if anything has changed... but when I was there (2005-2009), the best things were the waffles and the sandwich bar.

    Dorm Life

Everyone should stay in a dorm their 1st year because you gain friendships and establish bonds that would be hard to do otherwise. After that, go to the Harbors or local apartment complex. You'll get more for your money.

    Academic Rigor

I was a journalism major, so academics were top of its class! Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications is great!

    Tips for prospective students

Research professors... don't just sign up for classes blindly. Check out 12-2 in the Student Center... lots of fun. Don't be afraid to try new things and sign up for clubs/organizations... college is the time to do things you're afraid of :)

    In three sentences

Hampton University gave me my best college experience. The professors are great and there's a good balance of fun and academics. The dorms could be better, so venture off-campus as a upperclassmen.

All i can say is that the new cafe is opening in the fall :)

    Campus Safety

Hampton University has its own police department. I see police men walking around daily and I never feel unsafe. I never see any fights break out on campus and everyone is very respectful. It is a very safe campus.

    Clubs and Activities

There are a lot of clubs and activities to join. Make sure you have time for all of them and keeping your grades up. Although being apart of clubs is important for certain program acceptance, grades are what matters most.

Hampton is full of great history and tradition. You will learn a lot about African heritage from attending this school. Being Hispanic and unfamiliar before attending, this school has really opened my eyes and changed my perspective in a good way on many things.

    Bang for the buck

It's worth the money. The class sizes are smaller since it is private and you get to be more interactive with the teachers. In most cases, the teachers really take the time to make sure you understand what is going on.

    Food and Dining

The cafe isn't very good, I'd recommend eating in the student center if your parents want to give you money to do so.

    Dorm Life

I lived off campus so I did not really get the full effect of the dorm life. I have seen inside the dorms however and I would not want to live in one personally. I'm sure they are manageable if you have a good room-mate and decorate however you want.

    Academic Rigor

I believe Hampton excels in the Science/Math curriculum. I have found classes such as Organic Chemistry, Physics, and upper level Biology & Math to be fairly challenging. Although Hampton offers difficult courses in these subjects, I have found other classes such as English, CSC, History, Humanities, etc. to be extremely easy. Those classes may be hard for others, however, to me they seemed very easy to receive good grades in and I did not learn much from them.

    Tips for prospective students

Focus on your grades and don't get caught up in the wrong things. It can be easy to fall behind if you are not careful. Hampton is expensive and you don't want to waste your money by fooling around.

    In three sentences

Waterfront is known as lover's lane if you walk the entire waterfront with a partner of the opposite sex rumor is you will get married to that person. Historical trademarks are the emancipation oak tree, wigwam and virginia cleveland hall.

    Campus Safety

Campus safety is pretty good here. You always see police driving and/or walking around the campus. Still never walk alone because it is the surroundings and outskirts of the university that is dangerous.

    Greek Life

Greek Life is terrible here at Hampton U. There are no fraternity or sorority houses. In addition, a Greek yard is non-existent. If you had plans on pledging this is not the place for you.

    What to do for fun

I never really understood what the phrase was, Hampton is what you make it, but it really is. Everyone has their fair share of partying, but that gets old. There is not much around Hampton at all. Personally fun is hanging out with friends, but nothing more.

    Food and Dining

Recently Hampton University built a new cafe and it is absolutely beautiful. It has two floors, and you are able to see the waterfront as you eat. The negatives are that the food is not always that great, but it is bearable. Plus the workers are always angry. Sometimes you will find a upbeat worker, but very rare.

    Dorm Life

I live in Moton Hall. I personally love living here simply because it is not close to the other female dorms so no female issues. Of course you have to share a bathroom with 40+ females, but that's the life that comes with living in a dorm. The bathrooms are never really clean so I recommend having your personal hand soap and tissue.

    Academic Rigor

Here at Hampton the student body consist of about 6,000 students so the classes are very small. You will never find a class more that 50 or even 25 , just depends. This is a great thing because the teachers are able to get to know you personally. Trust me, you always need your teachers!

    Tips for prospective students

Prospective students, always remember to think highly of yourself , and act/ dress appropriately because Hampton puts their weight on their amazing students. Also, get involved in clubs that you will prosper in and let your voice be heard so change in the school can be made.

    Food and Dining

The cafe is definitely the chill spot, it's an absolutely beautiful atmosphere; the food needs a little work, but look forward to Fried Chicken Wednesday!

    Dorm Life

    Academic Rigor

Even the prerequisites are challenging. But this definitely helps you to get a feel for the Hampton standard of academic excellence.

Very interesting to watch. HBCU Greek Life is a very serious thing.

    Clubs and Activities

Plenty of clubs to get into. Take advantage of what these groups offer. Attend the Organizational Bazaar at the beginning of the year (its required for freshmen)

Great for these types of students

Students that want to become professionals, students that want to have the HBCU experience, students that are prepared to get serious, students that can deal with being on curfew for a few weeks at the beginning of the first semester, students that understand the concept of To be early is to be on time. To be on time is to be late. To be late is unacceptable.

Class names are given to each incoming class and we have chants and dances. QT9 the year of Quintessence is the best :) Do NOT walk on Ogden Circle (you can't miss it, big circle with the flags), what goes on in the Harbors should stay in the Harbors, students study on the waterfront

If you come in on a HU scholarship do your best to keep it. If you come in without a scholarship work your hardest to try and get one. 3.3 GPA means 3.3, not 3.299999.

    What to do for fun

I don't get out much, but On-Campus the athletic games are fun and the Holland parties are usually good. The block parties are the most fun. Ballroom parties are okay. I have yet to explore Off-campus activities because taxi's in Hampton are expensive.

    Food and Dining

The cafe is a big, beautiful, brand new building and the workers in the cafe are pleasant. The food will forever be an adjustment, but you get used to it after a while. Best advice is find one thing you like most in the cafe and stick with it.

    Dorm Life

Hardest thing to adjust to is sharing a bathroom with a ton of girls. I lucked out with a big room, but the smaller rooms are livable if you keep them tidy. Twitchell Hall is the best Freshman female dorm! Twitchell Trendsetter! :)

    Academic Rigor

My first semester was fairly easy (as it should be), but as you take higher level courses the work will get more intense. HU is very big on group projects which are not always fun or easy, but you will get through them.

    Tips for prospective students

Hampton University is not for everyone. You will have to be serious to be successful here. Networking is a very important factor at HU. Hampton molds students into professionals so get ready!

The pennisula which is a shopping center is nearby, kings dominion which is a theme park is an hour away, Buckroe Beach is really nice and the parties on and off campus are every weekend.

    Food and Dining

The new cafeteria structure is very nice. the food is okay, it holds you over for the year until you dont want to be on a meal plan. the price is good for food 3 times a day for a year, unlike buying your own food every month adds up.

    Dorm Life

Living on campus the first year is very good because you are close to all your classes, bathrooms clean themselves(they dont stay clean long), you meet new people and connections that live in the dorm, and close to the cafe.

    Academic Rigor

My major is Aviation and my advisors and the teachers are very passionate on the criteria and shared background from themselves being in the field. Whenever you think about changing you major or how to keep up with your credits they are the ones to go to.

    Tips for prospective students

Be prepared as a freshman to have a curfew the first 2 months if you plan to stay on campus. There are a lot of parties and things to do that will distract, try to not prcrastinate and ask questions. Dont bring too much when moving in and go to the library. The library makes studying easier and more acessible.

    In three sentences

This campus is very safe with its own police station on campus and has a lower crime rate than some schools around here.

    Clubs and Activities

The only club that I am in is called HU Fusion and this is for transfer students to help them adjust to the new college life. This has been very helpful for me.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Many of the things on campus are historical so if you like history that is nice. On fridays we have 12 to 2 in the afternoon where they play music and you can hang out to kind of break up your day.

    Bang for the buck

I use all the resources I have access to as much as I can.

    What to do for fun

They have games quite often as well as a bowling alley and movies shown on friday nights.

    Food and Dining

There are many places to eat around here as well as a Chick-fil-a on campus.

    Dorm Life

I do not live on campus.

    Academic Rigor

The classes are difficult but that just means you have to make plenty of time to study.

    Tips for prospective students

Always apply for financial aid early. Make sure that you make your self known as a student that wants to attend HU. Make frequent visits to check on the status of your financial aid.

    Campus Safety

Hampton, Virginia was ranked the friendliest place in America a few years ago, so it is exceedingly safe out here.

    Greek Life

Greek life is okay. It has drastically improved in the last two years. Unfortunately we still do not have the entire Divine 9 on campus yet. But rumors say that they are bound to all be back in the semi near future.

    Clubs and Activities

There are a number of clubs that students can get involved with on campus, and I believe that there may really be a club for everyone.

Great for these types of students

Students who want to go away for school, but are still trying to experience a family atmosphere.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

We have our world renowned Ogden Circle, which is a patch of grass in the dead center of the campus surrounded by a number of flags. According to campus superstition, if you walk across the grass, you won't graduate on time.

    Bang for the buck

The school is a little bit on the pricey side, but they do a great job of bringing on campus recruiters to the school to offer jobs. They also have a beautiful campus, which I believe attracts a number of students.

    What to do for fun

For the most part, we attend school sponsored parties, as well as parties hosted by greek organizations. We also attend sporting events, such as basketball and football games. In addition, many students frequent the beach nearby.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria food is not very good at all, honestly. Many students have meal plans, but complain about having to spend a lot of money eating out, because of the poor quality of the cafeteria food.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are fairly old and small in all honesty. Because they are so old, you are not allowed to have refrigerators or microwaves in your dorm rooms. They do have a dorm fridge and microwave, but I wouldn't recommend you leaving your food in the fridge for too long.

    Academic Rigor

All in all, the classes are challenging. I would be lying if I said they weren't. Despite this fact, I do genuinely believe that they are all reasonable in regards to the amount of work given.

    Tips for prospective students

Hampton University is what you make it. With this in mind, I recommend that if you attend Hampton, or any other school, that you go in with a positive attitude and open mind. The people, both student and staff are only as positive as you are.

    In three sentences

Hampton University is an exceptional school, that has been pushing a standard of excellence for generations now. I was accepted into a number of schools, but I am happy with my decision to attend Hampton. Although it is private, I would recommend it to anyone who asks.

    What to do for fun

I really do not go out that much since we are considered to be located in the more rural areas of Virginia. Sometimes i go to the movies with my friends or out to eat and then there are parties that come up occasionally; however, I haven't been to interested in those since my main concern this semester was to get all A's.

    Food and Dining

Depending on what you get the food can be pretty good, I do often have to apply salt and pepper to my food here. I guess they do not season the food too much on account of the cooks do not know what some people call spicy and what others do not. And the also have to take allergies into affect.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are kind of on the dirty side, I really feel as though it is the girls that I am living with. People do come and clean the bathrooms but careless girls, with what it seems like no home training, always find a way to dirty it up. It is close to disgusting.

    Academic Rigor

There are sometimes that I will feel swamped with work but once i get it done quickly and on time then I do not feel as stressed. However, I do get stressed pretty often, especially around midterm and final time.

    Tips for prospective students

Make friends with your professors. Do not procrastinate when you get assignments. Partying all the time is not good.

    In three sentences

I like that I can get around campus easily. The atmosphere is quiet, just like home and I am comfortable here. The small amount of students that attend this university allows me to have a better relationship with my professors.

The cafeteria is brand new this year and serves good food. It lacks versitility and new choices but serves a purpose. The hours of operation needs to be extended.

    Dorm Life

Hampton has history and their dorms are no different. Most dorms need some work in the plumbing area but for the most part are air conditioned. Dorms are close knit and almost function as a family.

    Academic Rigor

In the MBA program academic rigor is demanding. Students take seven to eight classes per semester. Professors move at a fast scheduled pace. Though challenging there are many resources to pull from to reach academic goals.

    Tips for prospective students

Students entering Hampton should be ready to work and be challenged. Expect the unexpected and be prepared to absorb knowledge and mannerisms that will shape your outlook on life. Come with an open mind holding no reservations and you will be able to learn much more.

    Clubs and Activities

Blue Thunder (cheer) Ebony Fire (band dancers) Majestic (hip-hop dance) Terps (modern, lyrical dance) Sororities&Frats (Divine 9) , SRT (Student Recruitment) SGA, and many many more.

Great for these types of students

Hampton is an hbcu , so we are predominately african-american so I would say HU is great for african-american students seeking to be around more people like them, this especially applying those of you who have grown up in places that you were the minority, don't get me wrong though our campus is very diverse, we have people of all nationalities.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

We have untraditional class names. We aren't just plain ole HU17 theres Onyx. Quintessemce, and Ogre Phi Ogre. You'll learn your class name upon arrival and all of the history and traditions that come along with it. The senios and the freshman always share the same name. This year is the year of ONYX!

    Bang for the buck

You definitely get what you pay for. It's so worth the money, the experiences you have and the connections you make will last you a life time.

    What to do for fun

BEACH , and then there's the mall, movies, restaraunts, etc etc normal stuff & theres ALWAYS something going on on campus, whether its a probate, a showcase from one of our danceteams, karaoke night, forum, football/basketball game.

    Food and Dining

The dining hall has good days and bad days. You'll learn whats the best things to get. Don't eat there on the weekends the cooks get lazy. But around campus there's pizza joints, wing zone, tropical smoothies, chinese, chic fil a, a froyo place etc etc. so youre okay.

    Dorm Life

Dorms are better than some schools , worse than others. Being around lots of other people going through the same thing you're going through makes it easier to deal with though

    Academic Rigor

Pretty average. Also depends on your major and which professors you have.

    Tips for prospective students

Make GOOD grades and apply early. Scholarships are seldom to none and only the best and those who apply early are awarded them. Hampton being both private and an HBCU results in high tuition and little scholarships. It's worth every penny though.

Campus security is strict and they look out for the students. They are at every event making sure we are safe. There are times when you may be at the library late or practice might end late and you feel uncomfortable walking alone, you can call a security officer and they will drive you to your dorm. Also on campus we have the city of Hampton Roads Police Department. For our safety there is only one way onto our campus.

    Greek Life

Greek life is really big at HU. You will not only know who the Divine Nine are, but you will also find other sororities and fraternities that are specific to your interests. For example there is a band fraternity, and there are smaller fraternities within the majors.. If you are interested in Greek life make sure you do your research and have your connections lined up and you will find one that you are interested in.

    What to do for fun

Being a student at Hampton University can be very fun. We aren't in a city so you have to find fun, but a good thing to do is get on the bus across the bridge that will take you to the Peninsula Town Center, restaurants, Target, a bowling alley, and the movie theaters. We are located near two beaches and our closest cities are Norfolk and Richmond. There are always parties in the Student Center or in Holland Hall. Sometimes your big brothers or sisters will invite you to off campus parties, but be choosy with which ones you attend. Also go to 12-2 in the Student Center on Fridays.

    Food and Dining

Hampton University has Chick Fila, Subway, and a coffee shoppe. HU also has small dining areas on campus. Our newest dining facility opened in 2012 and offers a spectacular view of the bay. The cafeteria food is on the come up, but beware of the freshman 15, I have seen it happen!!

    Dorm Life

There is so much for me to say about dorm life. The dorms all have the standard two beds, desks, and closets. Hampton has limited apartments on campus but across the street there are the Harbors and just 10 minutes away there are newly built apartments. Of the 20 dorms on campus the best freshman female dorm is TWITCHELL!!!!! Im not the one to judge the male dorms but I have heard that Harkness is the best.

    Academic Rigor

Hampton University is a traditional historically black university and has a high standard of excellence. The classes are challenging but you will definitely learn a lot. Hampton offers a lot of tutoring and academic help. Hampton University has a wide variety of majors that will appeal to all. You will experience not only the hands on type of professors but also the professors who will be very frank and hand you assignments expecting them to be done on time.

    Tips for prospective students

As with any college you want to come in with an open mind. Take advantage of every opportunity, get involved, try new things. Do not just focus all of your attention on your books but go to the parties, the games, the shows and spend time with your friends. Call home not just for money. If you have a scholarship its a serious privilege so you want to do everything you can not to loose it. Do not be afraid to ask questions, that's what the students and faculty are there for. Go to the library and actually use it. Be ready for the Hampton run around. Have multiple professional suits and dressy attire. Remember, you're allowed to make mistakes but don't forget to learn from them. Always get work done before you go out. Support your friends and they will support you. Do not be stressed about curfew first semester...you'll be thankful when you see your final grades and how good they were. Just have fun, its college and learn all you can!

    In three sentences

Hampton University prides itself on excellence, growth and training up their students to be ready for the working world. This school has good mix of academic and social life. Hampton University cares about their students and has a number of opportunities waiting for you.

I feel very safe at Hampton, but just like at any college do not walk alone at night and be careful who you catch a ride with because freshman and sophomores are not permitted to have cars on campus.

    Greek Life

Greek life is moving up at Hampton and the Q-dogs always make their presence known while the others are pretty low key in my opinion.

    Clubs and Activities

There are over 150 organizations and clubs here and they're pretty easy to get involved in and there's pretty much something for everybody.

Great for these types of students

Great for students who are serious about their work but also like to have fun. Hampton does have curfew until homecoming week for freshman and certain dress codes for certain buildings so if you don't like that then don't come to Hampton.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

We have the Emancipation Oak and the Historic Ogden Hall. Emancipation Oak is where the Emancipation Proclamation was first read and Ogden is where famous speakers come to Hampton and speak to students and students are expected to dress in their Sunday Best clothes for most events in Ogden. There is also orientation week for Freshman which is the first week of school. At the end of the week there is an induction ceremony where guys wear black suits and girl wear white dresses where you are officially declared a Hamptonian. Each incoming class at Hampton also gets a name such as Onyx, Ogre, or Quintessence as a tradition here and students rep their class name to the fullest.

    Bang for the buck

Hampton is very expensive, I honestly haven't figured out why the school is so expensive but I think it will be worth it in the end in the job market, because of Hampton's prestige. I would feel much better about the $30,000 if they updated the buildings.

    What to do for fun

Students at Hampton usually make-up stuff to do on campus for fun being that Hampton is a bit far from clubs, bars, etc. There are always parties going on in the Harbors, which are the upperclassmen apartments as well but be careful.

    Food and Dining

There are plenty of restaurants to order from around campus, but don't be surprised if it takes your food two hours to get to your dorm. There are plenty of pizza places, a wing place, chic-fil-a, java lava, planet smoothie, and Subway all near campus within walking distance. Other restaurants may require a taxi or bus but there is an Olive Garden, Red Lobster ,Bojangles , Mcdonalds, Etc around the Peninsula Town Center. The cafeteria has okay food but just like most colleges it's obviously not a home cooked meal. However, there are designated days such as fried chicken Wednesday which students here seem to enjoy. The view from the cafeteria is beautiful as well as it sits waterfront.

    Dorm Life

The dorms here are all pretty much waterfront which means they have a beautiful view. Although they have a nice view looking outside, the inside of the dorms could definitely use some work. I stay in Moton Hall and we currently have a shower head that sprays water directly on the floor in the bathroom which leaves people to have to dodge water puddles in the bathroom. We also have a bathroom stall where the door does not close. Overall, the girls in the dorm are nice, but the dorms definitely need to be updated. I hear that the upperclassmen dorms are nicer.

    Academic Rigor

The academics here are challenging but do-able.

    Tips for prospective students

Hampton is a very prestigious school, but there are people here who might not necessarily go to this school that will try to tempt you with drugs and alcohol. Make sure to stay away from those things because $30,000 is a lot of money to let go down the drain. Have fun but don't turn up too much. Stay focused from day one and have fun as well and you will be fine.

    In three sentences

Hampton Univesity, like most universities is what you make of it. They make it very clear what they expect of you and if you simply follow that your time here will be well spent. Hampton is also very expensive so stay on top of your financial aid and apply for outside scholarships, because unfortunately they'll turn you away at the door if you don't have the funds.

    Academic Rigor

    Tips for prospective students

    In three sentences

This is one of the most well-known myths on campus and the one that almost everyone take seriously.

    Bang for the buck

There are many people who choose to sugar coat things when you ask them their opinion about things such as colleges/univeristies. They tell what they think you want to hear versus what you need to hear. I refuse to be that person. When going to Hampton be prepared to not like it at first. There are certain that Hampton does that are going to frustrate you, like financial aids lack of organization and ability to give you one answer instead of sending you 5-6 different places to find the answer that they should already have. There are many things about Hampton that could be improved or changed, but in reality, who/ what place is perfect? Although Hampton has its drawbacks the thing that makes up for it is that they want you to succeed. They hand you every opportunity in life to succeed, you just have to be smart enough to notice them and take them. Also, no matter what your major, Hampton pushes you to be the best you can be, as a person and in your chosen career field. Unlike other colleges/universities, Hampton teahcers want to see you succeed. As long as you go to them, talk to them, get to know them and form a reltionship with them, they will do their absolute best to help you with whatever you need.

    What to do for fun

In the city of Hampton, VA there is very little to do. However, every Saturday Hampton University hosts a party in the schools gym for everyone to attend. Contrary to what you might think of when you hear party in a school gym these parties are nothing like a high school party in the gym. These parties have no dress code, no rules on the type of music that is played, absolutely no rules against the type of dancing that students choose take part in and no adult supervision. Other than that there are always parties off campus that are usually either walking distance or a short cab ride away.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria at Hampton is a hit or miss type thing. Some days the cafeteria has a great selection of food. Other days it doesn't, but the cafeteria gives you the option of having waffles (served all day), pasta (made with any add-ins that you choose) and pizza (which is also a hit or miss type thing).

    Dorm Life

The upperclassman dorms at Hampton University, such as Holmes, White and Muff and beautiful inside and out. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for the freshman dorms. Almost all of them need to be updated and renevated. They aren't terrible living conditions but there are plenty of things that could be done make them better.

    Academic Rigor

Depending on your major, Hampton can be very rigorous or relax. For anyone who chooses to major in any science field, architecture, nursing or pharmacy prepare yourslef for a rough 4-6 years at Hampton. The Divine 9 is featured throughout campus, you just have to look. Currently, they are building a specific area for the Greeks near the student center which adds to the Greek life. The best time and place to see Greek Life is at the student center on Fridays (12-2s) where Greeks stroll throughout that time period. They also host parties on the weekends and occasionally you will see them showing their colors around campus and different sporting events. If your thinking big time, two-three times a semester a Step shows is held in Holland gym and even the Convocation center. That's where you truly get your monies worth too see your favorite frats and sorts. step.

    Clubs and Activities

From Student Government Association to the Student Recruitment team there are various clubs and organizations offered at Hampton University. Peer counseling and clubs related to all majors gives students the opportunity to get involved on campus. Anything you can really think of based off your personality, academics and talents is offered at Hampton University.

Great for these types of students

If you are dedicated to your studies and are a very outgoing person you will love Hampton because you will succeed academically and socially. Students and faculty will notice your success and talents. With that opportunities will open up and the university will showcase your talents to the world!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Ogden Circle near Ogden hall is where students graduating students walk across the grass surrounding all nationalities (flags) that have attended Hampton University. The myth is that if you walk across the grass before graduation, you will not graduate. Dont know if this is true, but id rather not test this myth If I were you.

    Bang for the buck

33k a year is a lot of money to attend Hampton University and as much as a shocker that is, I truly believe it will be worth it in the end. The teachers and administration will do whatever they can to help you find that special job depending on how much you want it. After you graduate and a company sees a degree from Hampton University, I know they will be sold. A lot of prestigious alumni have graduated from Hampton University and you can be one too. Yes, it is a lot of money to attend but through hard work and perseverance a degree from Hampton University will be worth it.

    What to do for fun

Be Proactive simple. Join a lot of clubs to keep yourself busy throughout the week, Attend any events occurring on campus which include: seminars, meetings for diff. clubs in the student center and any sporting events. Starting on Friday, stop by the student center (12-2) and socialize. Typically on a Saturday there is a party going on whether on campus at Holland gym from 10-1 or a off campus party at the harbors. If your not a party person, take a cab or get a ride to the Peninsula and enjoy the outside mall with friends.

    Food and Dining

The new cafeteria just built last year is very nice I will admit, but the food is so-so. Sometimes the food will be great some days and decent other days, you just never know. Best day to go to the caf© is on Wing Wednesday where they serve chicken and other edible sides to go with it. Not a lot of variety at the caf© so you get a lot of the same stuff throughout the week which gets old. It forces you to get food at the Student Center or Wing Zone or Subway near the Harbors.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is awful for incoming freshmen: very outdated, small space, dirty public shower and bathroom. Need doctors note to bring in refrigerator, no microwave. Visitation is not offered until homecoming and curfew

    Academic Rigor

Hampton University academics is in between honestly when it comes to academics. It Depends on your major whether or not your classes may be difficult than others because of the workload a certain major carries. General Ed classes are fairly easy to median depending on your teacher. Certain teachers will give you a workload with a decent amount of tests and vice versa a teacher might give you min. HW and tests. It all depends on that, but teachers will challenge you more in your major generally compared to general ed classes.

    Tips for prospective students

Please attend pre-college or go on multiple tours of the campus before attending Hampton University. Get a feeling of what its really going to be like on campus before attending here, ask yourself is this the college for me? Does it feel like my 2nd home where I will be staying at for a possible two to four years? If you do not like what you see look some where else, but if your heart is here, Hampton is for you.

    In three sentences

Hampton University lives by its mottos, the Home by the Sea and Standard of Excellence. A beautiful campus surrounded by the ocean water offers the highest of academics in whatever field or major you choose and a place you can call home. It being the Standard of Excellence, successful students are surrounded around each other with the guidance from excellent professors to help push them into a successful workforce.

    Campus Safety

Hampton is a gated campus, so it is very safe. Visitors have to stop by the guards desk before dropping off or picking up anyone on campus.

    Greek Life

Greek Life is a big thing on Hampton's campus. We currently have 8 of the divine 9 active on campus.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many clubs and activities. If there isnt a club on campus that interested you, you can start one! There is something for everyone to get involved in based on your personal likes and interests. This is a great way to make new friends!

Great for these types of students

Great for motivated students who like to work hard and have fun!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Hampton is rich in history. One of our biggest historical landmark is the Emancipation Oak Tree, where the first reading of the Emancipation proclamation was read to the newly freed slaves in Virginia. President Obama planted a sappling from this tree on the White House Lawn.

    Bang for the buck

Hampton is a great school academically! However on campus living is overpriced for the facilites and the food in my opinion.

    What to do for fun

There is always something to do! Every week a different campus organization is in charge of facilitating the events for that week. These events include seminars on relationships, talent shows, open mics, poetry slams, day parties etc. Additonally, every Fri there is 12-2 in the Student Center which is a party to celebrate the end of the week with a DJ.

    Food and Dining

It is not your mom's homecooked meal. On the bright side you will never starve, there are a lot of options so you will find something you like. They have many stations including pasta, deli, grill, waffles, pizza etc. In addition to the main dining option each semester you get 50 Gourmet dollars, to use at Chick-fil-A, and other fast food options in our student center including Planet Smoothie and Pirate Grille.

    Dorm Life

Living on campus is expensive, however freshmen are required to stay on campus for the first year. Some of the dorms are nicer then others, of course. One good thing I will say about living on campus- is you remain connected with on campus events and you have the opportunity to make a lot of new friends.

    Academic Rigor

Hampton is very rigorous academically, which is why we continuously rank in the Top 5 with other prestigious HBCU's. Hampton offers a variety of accelerated programs including the 5 Year Masters in Business Administration Program, 6 Year Architecture program and the 6 Year Pharmacy Program; just to name a few.

    Tips for prospective students

    1. Do your research- There are merit base scholarships for incoming freshmen ranging from partial to full rides based on SAT/ACT scores and your GPA. Applicants must apply to Hampton before Nov 1 to be considered for these scholarships. 2. Visit- Hampton is a beautiful campus. If you are considering attending, schedule a campus tour.

    In three sentences

Hampton University is by far one of the most prestgious HBCU's in the country. Rich in history and culture, Hampton University is undoubtedly an illustrious instiution with a lot to offer in and outside the classroom. Hampton lives by their mission statement, upholding the standard of excellence- evident in their students, professors, and the campus as a whole.

    Bang for the buck

I guess Hampton University is worth your money if you can afford it. However, due to the fact that I received the Presidential Scholarship which covers tuition, room, and board, I may not be the best person to ask regarding this facet of the Hampton experience.

    What to do for fun

For clean fun I would recommend the Student Center which hosts numerous student events. If you like the party scene more, than the Harbors, which is a set of apartment complexes right by the campus, is probably more your speed.

    Food and Dining

The food in the Hampton University cafeteria is extremely under par because the food is normally over or under-cooked. Also, as the end of the first and second semester comes closer the food will get worse, except around holidays and special occasions.

    Dorm Life

Unfortunately, the dorms on Hampton University's campus are a disgrace because they have not been properly cared for and they are not going to be renovated any time soon.

    Academic Rigor

The hardest part of the academics at Hampton University is getting past your first year because you are forced to take classes that you truly do not need. The perfect example is University 101, which is a class that centers around Hampton University's history and various academic departments. Many students, including myself, feel that this class is useless because many students (like myself) sleep through most of the class, but pass with an A+ (like I did) just by keeping up with the assignments.

    Tips for prospective students

Learn the campus as soon as possible because you will need to know your way around when it comes time for class registration and financial clearance you will need to know your way around.

    In three sentences

Hampton University is a place where you have to know how to network properly in order to succeed. Giving a good impression to your professor(s) can be the difference between simply passing a class and acing a class. If you want to move forward it isn't what you know, but who you know.

    Student Center

    What to do for fun

Socialize, join clubs, organizations and groups so you can meet people that are likeminded. They also have 12-2 parties in the Student Center every Friday.

    Food and Dining

The food is not so bad, they have variety but after of a while, you can get tired of it.

    Dorm Life

    It is decent.

    Academic Rigor

The amount of time spent in the classroom is bearable. Many professors are often engaging.

    Tips for prospective students

If you plan on attending, just stay focused. Build connections with your professors, dorm advisors, pretty much anyone who can guide you(and potentially write you reference letters)!

    In three sentences

Hampton University is what you make it. It has many organizations, clubs and groups to join where you can be with likeminded people. It's small but has a lot to offer.

Don't make the mistake of attending this school. It is not at all worth the money or the hassle. The buildings are badly kept and the dorms and cafeteria are infested with rodents and large bugs. Much of the administration is not focused in taking care of it's students. Dr. Barbra Inman, the Vice President of student affairs will only care about students who's mothers are deltas. She is extremely rude and does not do a good job in her position. Her leadership is leading Hampton university down the drain. The academic programs could be way better. There is nothing to do and nowhere to go, and very unsafe, many student have been jumped and robbed on campus grounds. It was the worst experience of my lie and I would never return. If you want to know more go on twitter and search restore HU to se the horrible conditions for yourself and hear from about them from students.

Be prepared to be your best!

    In three sentences

I made an amazing choice and am pleased and honored to be a Hamptonian! I pray I can make my family and 'Home By The Sea' proud by my accomplishements I plan to acheive here. Awesome staff, outstanding faculty and a President second to none!
