Great for these types of students

Hampton University is a great school for people who need guidance and structure. During the first semester of your freshman year, you will have a curfew. There are some students that come to school to party and enjoy being away from home. Hampton provides the means to control those situations. The rules that Hampton has reminds the students of the reasons that their parents sent them off to school. I am thankful for that. I completed my freshman year with a 3.74.

    Tips for prospective students

I recommend prospective students to visit the campus and tour the dorms.l Some dorms have air conditioning and some do not. It is good to try to get to know your dorm director in advance and to form a relationship with him or her. My dorm director was Ms. Wilkins and i think she is one of the best. Your dorm director will be one of the most helpful people during your freshman year as well as your RAs. Good luck with your quest for finding the right school. I am proud Pirate!

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy the campus life. We call it our home by the sea. The xampus is very pretty. It is also filled with excitement and activities. For example, our student center containts a bowling alley, movie theatre, pool room, fitness room and a dance room. Every Friday there ie a 12:00 to 2:00. There is a dj and other activities during that time. There are sometimes concerts and comedy shows to attend. Trey Songs performed at Ogden Hall last year. Marlyn Wayans also came to campus to talk to us about the Obama election.

    Am learning a lot

Hampton University is an excellent school when it comes to academics.l The professors are very interested in their students. They provide office hours as well as email addresses in order for their students to contact them. All of my professors responded to my emails in a timely manner. I also recieved my test grades with in a 48 hr time frame. Al of my professors were welcoming and available for me to talk to if i had any concerns.

Great for these types of students

Hampton is for someone who wants to get that traditional HBCU experience. A person who is about their business and sees themselves going somewhere in the future. Set the bar high and only good things will come. You can do anything you put your mind to.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure that you schedule a campus tour and visit the dorms. Take time to do research on the school and it's history as well as the program for your desired major. Enter Hampton with an open mind and heart and be as active as possible.

    Bang for the buck

Although Hampton is an exensive school it is well worth it. The campus is to die for. Hampton is on the list of best HBCU's in the country....and that is no joke. The education you will receive is excellent. I believe that there shouldn't be a price on education because that's what is going to prepare and mold you for your future.

    Did enjoy being here

Hampton's campus is beautiful! Everything from the buildings, landscapping, faculty and staff were just amazing. Living on campus for the first year reall allowed me to get the full college experience...Dorm life, events at the student center, and althetics just to name a few were all a once in a lifetime opportunity. Nothing else can compare to college life. Hampton is very strong on family and once you become a true Hamptonian you are family. The atmosphere that surrounds the entire campus is that of love, compassion, strength, and hope. Everyone there only wants the best for you and will do anything and everything to help you reach your goals.

    Did learn a lot

Class sizes as far as the number of students is concerned are small. Which leaves plenty of room for a more interactive classroom experience as well as giving the student an opportunity for a one-on-one relationship with their teachers/professors. Students are treated as more than just a number in the grade book, teachers take pride in their work and make you (the student) their number 1 priority.

Great for these types of students

Hampton University is good for all types of students. If you were a top the of your graduating class, your will excel at Hampton. If were not the at the top class, maybe you were just an average student, you still have the opportunity to excel at Hampton.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are considering or have been accepted to Hampton University, first, congratulations. Second, this school is for students that are dedicated to their studies. Yes, we have a good time, but grades definitely come first. Finally, if you are not from Virginia and you are not use to being away from home, this is not the school for you.

    Bang for the buck

I believe that I am receiving a good education at Hampton University.

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy being at Hampton very much. As an incoming freshman a new environment took a little getting use to, but I love my school. The campus is beautiful and there are many clubs, groups and activities to choose from. I am currently a member of both the University and Concert Choirs and enjoyed the experience last year. I anticipate that this year's experience will be just as if not more fulfilling than last year's.

    Am learning a lot

I love the rigorous curriculum of Hampton University. I am intellectually challenged in the classroom as well as outside. The teachers are very invested in their students' success. They are willing to go above and beyond the call of duty to ensure that their students succeed.

Great for these types of students

Hampton University is good for all types of students. Generally everybody fits in. As long as you don't mind a few strict rules, especially freshman year, Hampton may be the University for you.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are a prospective student I recommend you visit the campus and take a campus tour. Visit the university's website as frequently as possible to see whats going on on campus as well as to get a feel of the school. The best option, I believe is to find Hampton students on online social networks and continue to ask questions about campus and academic life here on Hampton University. The best source of information is always current or past students. They're honest enough to give you the good and the bad. And when you arrive, remember you are here for school, don't get to caught up in the parties and social events. Have a good balance.

    Bang for the buck

Hampton University is one of the pricier schools and to be honest, you don't always get your monies worth. The on campus housing situation at Hampton is horrible. The dorms are very old and need updating. Half of the classrooms have chalkboards instead of whiteboards and most teachers bring their own chalk. You're paying a lot of money for a meal plan for a cafeteria that doesn't serve good food at all. It's not even buffet style like most colleges, you can't get as much as you want and the latest the cafeteria aka the caf is open is 7pm.

    Am enjoying being here

Regardless of Hampton's downfalls, I am very happy I decided to come here. I have made some of my best and closest friends here, friends that I know I will keep for life. Hampton has some of the best and most helpful students. Most are extremely friendly and upperclassmen are always willing to help incoming freshman. It's literally like a big family, most students call each other brother or sister.

    Am learning a lot

Hampton University is one of the black ivy league schools, so obviously they carry some of the top educational programs/degrees for your buck. Most students as well as professors take their education seriously and are striving to be at the top. Professors provide emails and office hours for student convince. There are a variety of tutoring programs such as math lab and foreign language lab for students needing assistance any a variety of subjects. Generally speaking, the majority of the professors seem to genuinely care about your education and want you to be as successful as possible and are willing to work with you.

Great for these types of students

This is excellent for anyone. Meaning, you must a driven young man or woman willing to become the best Hamptonian man or woman you can possibly be. Athletes, musicians, singers, academics, and countless others are encouraged to come. I promise this: you will leave a better person than you came here. I have seen such an improvement in myself since I've been and I'm only a freshman. They strengthen your weaknesses and you leave a totally different person. It's definitely an amazing institution for amazing individuals.

    Tips for prospective students

If you plan to attend this institution, be sure to set yourself aside from the next applicant because it's very competitive to become an academic at this institution. Become heavily involved in high school with school organizations, academic wise, and be an advocate for community service. Become an active participant in your community because this is a family based community at Hampton. The more credentials you have, the easier it will be to be accepted.

    Bang for the buck

The tuition is absolutely ridiculous in my opinion, but it is WORTH every dime you spend. With superb dormitories, a beautiful waterfront view, mouth-watering cuisine from our historical cafeteria and the amazing education you receive, you are not losing money. YOU ARE INVESTING IT IN YOURSELF. It's definitely worth it!!!

    Am enjoying being here

College is a major and quite difficult adjustment from high school. Learning to live on your own and accepting responsibilities and being accountable for your actions are all vital in becoming an adult and this school prepares you and assists you in growing through that. Every educational institution has its downfalls or negatives, but overall I love being a Hamptonian. Being surrounded by such distinguished people and gaining an awesome education while being involve din my school, it doesn't get any better than this!!!

    Am learning a lot

Hampton University is a prestigious institution whose mission is to provide the most enriched and wealth of knowledge education possible to each and every one of its scholars. With a dignified faculty and a great academia curriculum, this university prepares its students for the workplace and corporate America with the tools necessary to achieve excellence.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for students who wish to experience diversity because of the many different backgrounds of the students.

    Tips for prospective students

If you wish to attend Hampton University it is a great and fun school. However, come with the mindset that it is not a school in which you can behave erratically because rules are enforced.

    Bang for the buck

Hampton University is a private institution which is very strict. For the money paid, the rules that are enforced are very restricting. Also, much of the staff is hard to contact which causes much hassle and grief with the students.

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy attending Hampton University. The people are very diverse and come from all over the globe. There isn't much to participate in according to extracurricular activities; however, once you find a program that is right for you it is easy to get comfortable.

    Am learning a lot

The classroom sizes differ depending on your selected major; however, the teachers encourage participation from students which creates an excellent learning environment.

Great for these types of students

Hampton U is great for any student who enjoys an urban lifestyle or the city life. While Hampton may have prominently African-American students who attend, many will find it easy to adjust to the friendly and fun environment.

    Tips for prospective students

I have some tips for prospective students wanting to attend Hampton U. First, remember to keep up with the deadlines to apply and complete your FAFSA application (financial aid application) early. Second, do your best on your SAT or ACT tests. And finally, keep your grades high and don't forget to get the best letters of recommendation from the people who know you best, such as guidance counselors, teachers, volunteer activities, jobs, etc. Good luck!

    Bang for the buck

Hampton U is a private college and is quite expensive to attend, especially if you plan to live on campus. But, planning ahead and completing your FAFSA application early will save you time and money. Though the tuition, in my opinion is expensive, the campus life experience is priceless.

    Am enjoying being here

I am actually enjoying living on campus the most at Hampton U. So far, I have met many people from all over the map, and have managed to find a variety of individuals who share the same interests as I do such as basketball, music, and the debate teams (if politics are interesting to you). The students, as well as the staff, are fun to be around and are very helpful with making it easy to adjust to the environment and vibe of the university. I enjoy being a member of the Hampton family.

    Am learning a lot

I am a current student in my freshman year of college at Hampton University. Here, I am learning not only about English, Math, or Biology... but, I am also learning a lot about becoming a professional, young man. At Hampton, there is NO TOLERANCE for sagging pants and positively NO HATS are allowed to be worn by young men inside of the buildings. While the campus police and staff work hard at keeping this action enforced, I find it amusing that the men that had the most trouble abiding by this rule, are now coming around to dressing for success. Go Hampton!

    Campus Safety

You will see campus police all during the day but when something happens they are no where to be found.. Hampton U POLICE =JOKE

    Greek Life

There are only like 3 greeks that are active on campus lol Greek life at Hampton is a joke..Greeks from other schools come there for time to time

Great for these types of students

quiet, suburban kids, boring, and weirdoes!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

the class names OGRE or whatever which has some type of meaning behind it.. the school itself has a lot of tradition but just not the type of traditions I wanted to be apart of

    Bang for the buck

not for +30,000 you can find bigger and better look around before you make this your final decision..

    What to do for fun

NOTHING..its boring either your going to Harbor hop every weekend which is going to the apartments across the street from campus and find parties that get shut down by campus police.. or go to Holland every weekend which is just a gym room party other than that nothing its boring here this school is not for city people, who are Outgoing, and free spirit its more for losers who come from the suburbs and like to be isolated..

    Food and Dining

small cafe, big cafe both terrible not only is the food BAD the cafeteria is nasty with rodents and bugs infested.. but they have built a new cafeteria but with the same catering service.. There is really no off campus food places so once it strikes a certain time at night you will just starve.. only the girls dorms have kitchens so guys your just out of luck.

    Dorm Life

Dorm Life is terrible.. most freshman dorms are so strict for guys James hall would be your best because they have no rules and its literally the PROJECTS and it is very nasty but so are the other dorms on this campus you would be better moving off campus but you can't bring a car until your junior year unless you come up with some type of lie or have a hook up...No fridge or microwave allowed because the buildings are so old

    Academic Rigor

Most of the professors are foreign and really could careless about teaching because they are underpaid and the classrooms are falling apart literally. If you are a scholar you will get past all of that but its still the principle that college is a investment and for 30,000 you should have a quality education and suitable environment. Half of the advisor are going to encourage you to take the maximum number of credits so you will end up failing the courses and giving the University more money to retake them. Hampton BAITS students in offering them scholarships and then making the GPA to maintain the scholarships extremely high so students end up losing the scholarship after the first year.. Overall, academics here are horrible if you want a quality education and not just a pass or fail without even learning pick another school..

    Tips for prospective students

If you a prospective student find a prospective school because Hampton University is definitely not one.. I transferred the first year to attend the real HU: Howard University and it was worth it.. Hampton is not worth the +30,000 save your time and parents money you can find a better school.

    In three sentences

On a scale to 0-10..Hampton University would be a ZERO. This school is very boring and it is what you make it literally... If your looking for a isolated, weird type of atmosphere then this school is for you!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

A very well known tradition there is the Hampton Runaround Unfortunately, every student has went through it once, twice or even more. This tradition is in full affect usually occurs the most when a student has to handle some sort of business, weather it deals with financial aid, scholarships, class adding/dropping etc. Documents at Hampton require several signatures, and the signatures you need will not all be in the same building. Trust me! So wearing your comfortable clothes and shoes, because the runaround is serious.

    Bang for the buck

Hampton University is very expensive. Though yours monies worth is solely on the student and parent. In which they have two choices to either squander the opportunities and money or to take advantage of the opportunity and become of that our parents, guardians, and supporters want from us.

    What to do for fun

The campus is filled with fun activities. a host of clubs and memberships. The students is great place to meet and greet and listen to latest music at our very own 12-2 session that we Hamptonians have regularly. Everyone at Hampton enjoys at least 2 or 3 Ball/Holland Party. Having fun in college is to one's own desecration, just keep in mind to have fun, be safe and be smart.

    Food and Dining

The cafe. After a day with 3 or 4 classes 2 test, and a lab, you hungry and The Cafe is the best. Honestly, it has the days where you must order out in order to get over the starvation phase. However, the conversations, the positive oar that surrounds everyone there is truly amazing.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life can have it's up and downs. Being put with a room mate who you just seem to can't see eye to eye happens, though in your dorm room or even just in your building you meet some of your best friends, and these friendships will last lifetimes.

    Academic Rigor

The proffessors at Hampton, or least the one's that I had are pretty understanding, flexible and considerate. The academic rigor, I believe is fair. Professors for the most part give ample amount of time to prepare for big assignments and test. They grade fairly, and the workload isn't impossible.

    Tips for prospective students

Be Yourself, You can't change who you are, but I can only get better. Stay focused and remember what goals are important, yes college is the most exciting years of your life though distractions and peer pressure come in abundance, which makes prioritizing key. Don't grow up to fast, a since of adulthood tends to kick in majority of young college students. I can honestly say I needed my parents a little bit more when I was away then when I was actually at home.

    In three sentences

Hampton University is a place where young adults can and have blossomed into great achievers. The campus life is amazing, and the professors, faculty and staff are second to none. Hampton University is a complete atmosphere of what success, perseverance and hardwork make our Home by the Sea the best!

    Campus Safety

There is a 24/7 police force the keeps Hampton safe.

    Greek Life

Greek life is amazing with the Divine 9 strolling through the campus during 12 to 2.

    Clubs and Activities

They're are numerous clubs and activities like student government, major specific clubs, and student leaders.

Great for these types of students

Anyt type there are every color and creed of students at Hampton.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Hampton doesn't really have any unusual traditions, but they are very traditional.

    Bang for the buck

Through the parties and extras Hampton offers its students, they really do give you a lot of bang for the buck.

    What to do for fun

The school offers a lot of fun things to do and sponsors many parties in order to keep kids from drinking. Everyone goes to these parties and I'm glad Hampton does this.

    Food and Dining

The food is sometimes amazing and then other times horrible.

    Dorm Life

Harkness Hall is the best dorm with the largest rooms, however the dorm director is very strict. James Hall is less strict and you will have the most freedom.

    Academic Rigor

As an electrical engineering major and midshipman in NROTC, the course load is extremely hard. As a freshman I had 17 credits during the fall and 20 credits during the spring.

    Tips for prospective students

Utilize your big brothers and sister they will help guide you and don't worry too much about curfew, freshman only have curfew till homecoming. In addition to this, go to pre-college you will meet a lot of people and have college credits already going into your freshman year; which makes that year so much more easier.

    In three sentences

Hampton University is an extremely strict insitution, were freshman are given a curfew and have limited freedoms. This maybe in order to have control over the freshman class and have them focus on school work, but to those who are mature, this is a nuisance. Besides this the faculty are very helpful and want to see you succeed and the big brother, big sister program is excellent and Hampton University a big family.

    Campus Safety

Hampton University is not by any means, an open campus and this allows me to feel safe at all times.

    Greek Life

After seeing movies like Stomp the Yard and even researching Greek Life, i had very high expectations. Unfortunately HU did not meet those expectations in their Greek area.

    Clubs and Activities

Hampton University is home to many great athletes; dancers, cheerleaders, football players and of course basketball players. The only thing we need more of is school spirit and it is up to HU and their students to do something about it. HU students are very dedicated when they have a reason to be.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The best location on campus is the waterfront. It offers a beautiful view of amazing sunsets and sunrises. One section of it as my best friends and myself call it The Oasis of Peace offers a serene place where I can spend alone time with my thoughts or enjoying the company of a special someone.

    Bang for the buck

Although I do not exactly have the money to attend Hampton University, I chose this school because I knew it would lead me to personal growth as well as a professional one. On a social level I have joined one of the best dance teams belonging to a college: Majestic. Overall I am glad I chose HU and I will do anything to make sure I remain there.

    What to do for fun

Hampton University is not a boring school but it is located in a boring area; Hampton, VA. I enjoy spending my team with my best friends and joining a dance team known as Majestic. Social Networking is great for friendships, business and even educational success.

    Food and Dining

The worst part about the school is probably the cafe food. Although sometimes their food is good, I am very tired of baked chicken and rice and most of their food has no seasoning. The cafe ice cream is great and the staff is as well. I have made some friends in the staff with some of the young as well as the older staff members and for that I am grateful.

    Dorm Life

Although Hampton University is a very old school, with building being somewhat run-down when compared to the new ODU; i love attending HAmpton University. Dorm life is an experience between meeting new friends and making life-long partnerships. I have also made it a habit t befriend the people in my dorm to make life easier, when dealing with friendships and group projects and even study sessions.

    Academic Rigor

As my high school pre-warned me, there are many foreign professors. In this case it is my job as a student and an adult to stay on myself to work harder and even stay on my teacher to help me succeed. The best thing about my teachers is they do not baby me but push me to reach heights even higher than I thought I could achieve.

    Tips for prospective students

The best tips is to manage your time. College is so different than high school, meaning much more responsibility and experience makes you mature and grow much faster. It is your job as a student to maintain your grades, your social image ( and yes networking is very important) and your financial status.

    Campus Safety

hampton's campus is a very safe campus. in fact, most of the campus is gated and the campus itself is surrounded by the hampton bay.

    Greek Life

greek life at hampton u compared to other schools is not too good. there are many multicultural fraternities and sororities, but there are not many legit greek houses. there are a few fraternities and sororities that seem to always be suspended as well. i rate greek life a 5 out of 10.

    Clubs and Activities

there are clubs and activities for anyone and everyone from the student leaders program to greek life, there is always something to join. there are even clubs for for home state and clubs for your major.

Great for these types of students

if you are ethnic, love culture, enjoy small towns, and small student teacher ratios, hampton university is the school for you.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

there are so many unusual traditions that hampton u has i do not know where to begin. first there is always a freshman week. this week is dedicated to getting to know your classmates and your school. there is always a ceremony at ogden hall which requires you to wear ogden attire. also, the number one rule is to never run across the ogden circle or you will be cursed and will not graduate. next, there is a group called the student leaders which help students and conduct student activities.these leaders are usually assigned to be a freshman's big brother or big sister meaning if you have any questions, concerns, or just need a ride to the store they are here for you. traditionally, freshman eventually meet other upperclass man and choose their on big brothers or sisters. there are so many more traditions, but i rather let you find that out if you choose to come to hampton university.

    Bang for the buck

a great way to save money is if you are staying on campus make sure you eat at the cafeteria 3 times a day. missing cafe hours can be costly because you then will feel the necessity to order chinese or pizza and that will accumulate at the end of the semester. additionally, the school will give you gourmet dollars which you can use at 3 student center vendor locations. this is your money that comes with your meal plan, therefore use it! lastly, if you are staying off campus, you must know that groceries add up and if you have a roommate sharing groceries can be just as costly as buying groceries separate. a great suggestion is buying your groceries separate and buy in bulk. bj's, sam's club, and costco are great money savers.

    What to do for fun

there are not too many things to do on campus for fun except the one thing every college student looks forward to do, party. there are always parties on campus and off campus in the appartment complex accross the street. in addition, the other few little recreational activities that hu offers are bowling and the game room. if you are looking to do something off and away from campus there is a promenade mall called the pennisuala town center filled with shops, stores, and restaurants. there is a local movie theater not too far from the mall as well. usually, students like to visit neighboring schools such as old dominion university, norfolk state university, and virginia commonwealth university, for events and parties as well.

    Food and Dining

the cafeteria at hampton u is very popular, but not because the food is good. many students complain about how bad the food is, spoiled food, not enough options, and poor quality. although the cafeteria is known to have horrible food, the administration is well aware and started a building fund to build an new cafeteria. they have started building and the estimated year of completion will be the year of 2014. hopefully, from the looks of the building as of right now, it seems that the building may be done by 2013. we are all waiting!

    Dorm Life

dorm life at hampton university is one of its worst qualities. since hampton u is a historical university, it is very very old and the buildings and dorms are proof. the dorms are old, dirty, and some do not have air conditioning. the bathrooms are old an are moldy and unsanitary. most students who can afford to move off campus do so after there freshman year. on a more positive note, there are a couple of nice dorms for honors college students, and the dorm directors and resident assistants are wonderful. they look out for you and make sure you have everything you need to stay comfortable. no place is perfect, but a good ra or dorm director could make your dorm experience great.

    Academic Rigor

hampton university's academics are good, and i feel like they are constantly changing and trying to make the school more efficient. there are some good and bad teachers at hampton, but every school has its bad teachers. hampton's scripps howard school of journalism is known for their outstanding performance. hampton's 5 year mba program is also very popular and produces equipped business graduates. overall, i do love my school and enjoy learning here at hampton university.

    Tips for prospective students

explore your options!!! i cannot stress this enough. hampton is great, but it is not for everyone. in fact, hbcus in general are not for everyone. therefore, take a trip and visit hampton u before accepting your acceptance letter. visit on a regular day and not on high school student day or days they have big events because 9 times out of 10 you will make a decision based on how much you enjoyed that one day at hu and become disappointed when you realize that hampton u is not as fun as you thought it would be.

hampton university has a beautiful campus, but unfortunately like most hbcus, hu has a horrible administration office. there is never a solid answer to any problems regarding issues with the school and if you have a question or issue it will not be resolved until you go through all of the offices. the campus is historic, but needs to be restored and the education seems sub-par compared to other colleges.

    Campus Safety

Hampton University has it's own police department that definitely puts the student's safety first and have no problem calling back-up if there is a situation that requires more staff. They are constantly walking and driving around campus to ensure our safety. Hampton is also a gated community, in which cars must have decals to get on campus.

    Greek Life

Hampton's Greeks are very involved. By the first month, you know who all of them are. Every week we have a gathering called 12-2 where the Greeks stroll and hang out. We do not have frat houses but as said before, they are still very involved.

    Clubs and Activities

There are numerous clubs and activities to partake in at Hampton. Of course there is Greek life, but outside of that every major has at least one club or organization that they have. Other clubs would be American Red Cross, NAACP, Women's/ Men's Caucus, Resident Assistant Association, Student Government Association, and Student Leadership Program.

Great for these types of students

Hampton is great for students who are looking to cater to their mind, body, and spirit. At Hampton, college is a universal experience. One that can;t be explained in words, you just have to witness it for yourself.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

As mentioned before our campus is a historic landmark, so anywhere you go there are interesting things. Some of my personal favorite locations on campus would be the water front. Hampton is surrounded by water on three sides, it is myth that if you walk the entire water front with someone you will later marry them. Ogden circle is another favorite. Flags from different countries surround Ogden circle. each of the flags represent all the different nationalities represented at Hampton University. We are so diverse that they have to switch them out sometimes because we ran out of flag polls. AnotherHampton myth is that if you walk through Ogden Circle you will not graduate on time. After graduation, the seniors have a big ceremony at Ogden circle where they walk through and take pictures.

    Bang for the buck

Hampton is a private institution, so it is expensive. However, if you take advantage of all the opportunities given, it can be worth all the money you pay and more. Our career center is one of the many things people take for granted. They are constantly sending us emails about internships, job opportunities, and scholarships. If you make a connection with them and make sure you are always seeking new opportunities, they will definitely help you.

    What to do for fun

Hampton is what you make it, and who you know. There is always something to do, you just have to get involved. Every week is dedicated to a different organization that have programs/ events for every day. These events can range from skate parties, pool parties, dating games, to educated forums.

    Food and Dining

The food that is served at Hampton University is, well, food. It really is not bad but, like all Colleges, you start missing your home cooked meals after a while. We are currently in the process of building another cafeteria which is right on the water, I'm assuming the food will be even better once in the new location.

    Dorm Life

While Hampton is a very prestigious school, it is a national historic landmark. With that being said, most of the buildings are historic, including dorms. They aren't awful but I would love to see them renovated. The problems that arise in the dorms allows for bonding time however.

    Academic Rigor

Hampton University's academic programs prepare you for all aspects of life. Most teachers really care about your success and are willing to work with you outside of class if you need the help. While the work can be intimidating at times, it makes you a person who knows how to manage time, complete tasks, and communicate effectively.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are looking for a college where you can grow internally and externally Hampton University is the right place. You're always assigned a big brother or big sister, take advantage of them! They are there to help you reach your full potential.

    In three sentences

Hampton University is an amazing school that gives it's students amazing opportunities. I can honestly say the students and faculty are a family, where both care about the well-being and success of others. The networking opportunities are endless and unavoidable, exactly what college students need.

    Clubs and Activities

There's plenty of ways to get active on campus. If you're not involved, then your experience at Hampton will suffer.

Great for these types of students

Flexible, willing to adapt, sociable, and grounded.

    Dorm Life

The relationships you will make in the dorm are more significant than people think. It is not a very comfortable living environment for freshmen but the dorms make for good memories.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you do your research before coming to hampton. Your experience there will be what you make of it and it will be different for every person.

    In three sentences

It is very much more expensive than what it is worth and the administration staff is a bit unprofessional and unorganized. There is a family environment that is appreciated by the students, which is good. It reaps many networking benefits for future reference as well.

Sometimes I find myself wondering why I pay so much for a school and they can't take care of the little things. But I remember why I am here and I feel it may all be worth it.

    Am enjoying being here

I love being here because of all the wonderful people I have met. It is so surreal to be surrounded by all types of people from all over the world! At Hampton you really have to become involved to be apart of the school.

    On-campus or off-campus

    Tips for prospective students

If you're looking to come to Hampton, you should visit the campus. Tour guides are regular students here that show you around to the different buildings and show it's history. The best time to come is High School day because you're more interactive with the campus over a course of a couple days rather than just one day. Homecoming is also a great time to come check out what Hampton is all about.

    Bang for the buck

Hampton is a very expensive school and books and supplies have to come out of pocket, but to me it's worth it. Any where you go you'll have to struggle with something. The only thing that really matters is what you get out of it and that's your education.

    Am enjoying being here

I live right on campus and the campus is beautiful. Of course like any other college it has it's flaws, but it feels good to wake up every morning to see the water right outside the door. Also, meeting new people here is really cool. It is made up of predominantly black students, but they are all from different parts of the US even the islands. There is still a diverse side with Caucasians from different countries. I met people all the way from Bulgaria!

    Am learning a lot

I really love the education here. The professors here are very helpful and explanatory. They help you to understand what's going on in class. I really enjoy all my classes even though there is a lot of work.

    Bang for the buck

Hampton is pretty pricey but it is a private school. The work and life lesson's you get out of it are very helpful though. If you are not serious about getting your education and you just want to party then paying that much is not worth it.

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy being a Hamptonian. O f course campus living is not the best but it is dorm living so you have to adapt. At Hampton it is all about who you know, so it cause you to become very social.

Great for these types of students

Hampton University is great for the student that would like to experience living amongst students from all different regions of the U.S. It is also the ideal atmosphere for the student that likes a warm family-oriented environment. Upon arriving as a freshman you are assigned someone called a big brother or big sister, and they voluntarily help you throughout you're undergrad years in ways you couldn't imagine.

    Tips for prospective students

Prospective students incoming freshman as well as transfer should look to Hampton as a new opportunity, a difference from their current higher education institute and opportunity, and a place they can call home. Don't be afraid to ask why, make good friends throughout the campus, as well as keep in touch with superiors in each department on campus. Step outside of your norm and be aggressive at the things you wish to achieve. Set goals for yourself and do not be afraid to ask for help to get you there. After all, it is a community.

    Bang for the buck

It is very known that Hampton is a quite expensive school to attend. Most of it's students are out of state, and believe it or not, the cost for in state is exactly the same as out of state. In a sense it is fair that way, but then again it is a private institute. The education matched with the tools for survival as well as netorking opportunities one can receive here make it all worth it.

    Am enjoying being here

Upon first arriving as a Freshman you'll think its lame that they require freshman to abide by a curfew until right before homecoming. What makes it fun is that you don't have to go it alone. Your other incoming Freshman friends are dealing with it too. It forces you to make friends early on as well as focus more on your academics, and entering into the University with a great GPA. I finished out my freshman year with a GPA of a 3.8 The campus is gorgeous, with a view of the Chesapeake Bay, and historical timeless buildings. They say the friends you make here are lifetime friends, and the truth is, that they are right.

    Am learning a lot

The class sizes are not all that huge, which makes it extremely easy to get to know your professor, which of course would be in you're best interest. The professors are all different of course, but when it boils down to it a class and grade average is really what you as the student make it. Not only do you learn academically, but Hampton provides you with guidelines on how to survive in the real world, especially the professional work world. It provides you with the discipline and tools to be ready for the next stage upon graduating.

The food is good and the dorms are nice. The classes are great and the people are wonderful. I feel that the tuition is worth it all.

    Am enjoying being here

I love being at Hampton. It is in a rural area but there is never a dull moment. I think since we have people from every where like CA, FL, TX, NY, NJ and the other 45 states you learn a lot about different musics, styles , dances and even food. It is an awesome experience. There is Greek life on campus so it is always exciting to see them stroll or stomp. Hampton is defiantly the HBCU to attend.

    Am learning a lot

The classes are small so you get that wonderful one on one experience with your professors. The professors are passionate about their job. What I enjoy about my classes is that the teachers don't read from the textbook they give examples from their own lives. The teachers have office hours so if you need extra help they are free to help.

The food is not the best, it needs a lot of improvement. The food needs to be handled in a more sanitary way. The Cafeteria has opened up at more beneficial hours, but food variety would really make a great difference.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life needs a lot of improvement because of the age of the School. Renovations would be nice because of the type of money that students put into the School. The dorms would also be better if they would enhance the electrical surges in the building so that students would be allowed to bring refrigerators.

    Academic Rigor

The classrooms are very small and it allows you the opportunity to get to know your classmates as well as your professors. Academics are very important and your professors will work with you if you are willing. Online homework assignments can be challenging but you have tutors to assists you with your most challenging of work.

    Tips for prospective students

    the greek life is amazing.

Great for these types of students

focused and reserved. i feel like you had to force the fun most times so if you are really eager to go out all the time, make friends with people that have cars

    What to do for fun

at a place like hampton, you have to find fun. there isn't anything to do really in walking distance except for campus parties or parties at the harbors but once you're bored with that, you either have to drive everywhere or take a cab which gets beyond annoying after a while.

    Food and Dining

the food in the cafe wasn't good whatsoever. I often found myself just eating fruit and salads or fries. everything else was pretty disgusting, and there aren't too many other options on campus so I often ordered out

    Dorm Life

I stayed in Virginia Cleveland which is the largest & oldest dorm building on campus. It wasn't that bad but it could have been better. You definitely have to make it your own, otherwise it will be very very blan

    Academic Rigor

I found myself challenged at some times but not all of the time. I ended my second semester with a 3.6 and didn't really try all that hard to do so. I think that freshman year is the easiest so things should get more difficult but I still think that I could have had a bit more of a challenge going in.

    Tips for prospective students

do your research. Hampton is very secluded and if you're accustomed to a busy city life, it might take some getting used to. Other areas of study here are pretty decent but nursing is the one thing I cannot advocate for.

    In three sentences

I'm tranferring because the nursing program isn't doing well here. I did like most things about the school but I feel that as an HBCU, they should step it up. Overall, I give Hampton a 3.5

    Academic Rigor

The first two years of the Pharmacy School program are supposed to be rigorous in order to get rid of students that are not serious about attending the school.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are planning to attend this school, make sure to fill out all financial aid paperwork on time. This is a private school and the tuition is very high. If you are applying for the pharmacy school department, get all paperwork turned in on time, and do not panic over the interview process.

    Greek Life

Hampton's Greek life is fun and very interesting. I have met a lot of people in Greek and have been to several events. The Greek life makes the campus more fun and interesting.

I am in organization called Society of Business Professionals, it is an organization for business students majoring in Finance, Accounting, Business or other related majors. It provides community service throughout the campus and outside the campus. Also we have events such as a Talent Show that helps our Department obtain finance. Since Ive been in the organization, I have met a lot of individuals that are majoring in business areas and it helps me keep focus of my goal as becoming an Accountant.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

It was a little of challenge for me to traditions from a city life to a country life. I was born and raise in the city of Chicago, so I am use to a busy lifestyle. But moving and living in Virginia it is a very different style. I had to make myself get use to taking public transportation to get to malls, clubs or even restaurants. But since Ive been there for a year, I have gotten use to the new environment.

    What to do for fun

In the state of Virginia it is little things to do. But once you been there a while, you get use to the environment and people. There are malls, restaurants, clubs and several other things. You just have to make the best out of it.

    Food and Dining

Hampton's cafeteria wasn't all the best but it provided tasteful foods. My experience was well but I wanted more. They are building a new cafeteria for this Fall that will be State of the Art style foods and catering.

    Dorm Life

Hampton's dorm life is okay. As a student leaving from home, moving to another state and learning more about themselves. It is a lot of pressure and stress living with a new person as a roommate. We do not get the same privileges we do from home. The dorm is strict and way different than home. But it has help me become more independent and more careful of choosing my friends.

    Academic Rigor

Hampton University's academic life is great. They help prepare all of their students for life and great success. I am majoring in Accounting and I believe when I graduate I will get well paying job because of training and academic help from Hampton.

For the most part there are always security and police around so it is good for safety but kind of annoying in terms of privacy.

    Greek Life

For an HBCU, the Greek life could be a lot better and more exciting. It is definitely nothing like stomp the yard so don't expect it to be.

    Clubs and Activities

There are a lot. You just have to look for them and get yourself involved.

    What to do for fun

The school has a lot of activities and parties. It is definitely fun. And there are malls not to far from the schools that will satisfy some of your needs.

    Food and Dining

The cafe food is not good. Your best bet is to eat at the student center but that will eventually get boring and you will end up ordering out almost always.

    Dorm Life

Not the best at all. Very old and that could be hazardous.

    Academic Rigor

There are good programs at the school and some of the teachers are cool. Your best bet is to be involved in class activities or work and try to form a good relationship with your teacher. Get noticed.

    Tips for prospective students

    Campus Safety

The campus is a closed campus. People can't come on without a guard checking their ID. This can be a hassle... but in the end, it's for your own safety. You should still keep yourself safe by locking doors and never walking by yourself at night.

    Greek Life

Hampton University has all 9 of the Divine 9 (NPHC) , plus a band sorority, music fraternity and sorority, and nursing sorority. There are also many academic fraternities.

    Clubs and Activities

There's an activity for everyone. I was in my states pre-alumni club (every state has one), I was involved in dance team and band (there are 3 dance teams) and there are many other sports and clubs for everyone. Check out the school's website for more info.

Great for these types of students

I've seen every type of student at Hampton University, but one thing that I have noticed is that HIU is full of beautiful people.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Rumor has it that if you walk across Ogden Circle, you won't graduate on time... and it's kind of true! Always be in proper attire when attending an event in Ogden Hall... no jeans allowed.

    Bang for the buck

Hampton University is a private school, so it may seem to cost a lot, but it's worth it. You have to do your work and make sure you get the best out of the experience.

    What to do for fun

In Hampton, you have to make your own fun. There are plenty of parties to choose from and many cabarets to attend. You will learn how to have fun anywhere, which is a very useful skill.

    Food and Dining

There's a new cafe, so I'm not sure if anything has changed... but when I was there (2005-2009), the best things were the waffles and the sandwich bar.

    Dorm Life

Everyone should stay in a dorm their 1st year because you gain friendships and establish bonds that would be hard to do otherwise. After that, go to the Harbors or local apartment complex. You'll get more for your money.

    Academic Rigor

I was a journalism major, so academics were top of its class! Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications is great!

    Tips for prospective students

Research professors... don't just sign up for classes blindly. Check out 12-2 in the Student Center... lots of fun. Don't be afraid to try new things and sign up for clubs/organizations... college is the time to do things you're afraid of :)

    In three sentences

Hampton is full of great history and tradition. You will learn a lot about African heritage from attending this school. Being Hispanic and unfamiliar before attending, this school has really opened my eyes and changed my perspective in a good way on many things.

    Bang for the buck

It's worth the money. The class sizes are smaller since it is private and you get to be more interactive with the teachers. In most cases, the teachers really take the time to make sure you understand what is going on.

    Food and Dining

The cafe isn't very good, I'd recommend eating in the student center if your parents want to give you money to do so.

    Dorm Life

I lived off campus so I did not really get the full effect of the dorm life. I have seen inside the dorms however and I would not want to live in one personally. I'm sure they are manageable if you have a good room-mate and decorate however you want.

    Academic Rigor

I believe Hampton excels in the Science/Math curriculum. I have found classes such as Organic Chemistry, Physics, and upper level Biology & Math to be fairly challenging. Although Hampton offers difficult courses in these subjects, I have found other classes such as English, CSC, History, Humanities, etc. to be extremely easy. Those classes may be hard for others, however, to me they seemed very easy to receive good grades in and I did not learn much from them.

    Tips for prospective students

Focus on your grades and don't get caught up in the wrong things. It can be easy to fall behind if you are not careful. Hampton is expensive and you don't want to waste your money by fooling around.

There is a Chipotle, a Hampton favorite, Boston market, taco bell and such, some restaurants include Hooters, Olive Garden, and Red Lobster. On campus there is the local cafe, Chik-fil-a, Tropical Smoothie, and Pirate Grill.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is equivalent to life. Freshman start off in the bottom with so-so conditions but with hard work, diligence and patience one can live in a larger-than-life dorm; just like in life where you have to work from the bottom to get to the top. We call the nicer dorms the Trump Suites because they are so beautiful and nice to live in like the actual Trump hotels, truly a reflection of success.

    Academic Rigor

Hampton is known as a black ivy league institution. Students here, grow into educated, well rounded, successful African-Americans ready to take on society. For example, several times a year Hampton implements mock workshops for proper interview etiquette, dining etiquette and is a firm believer in business attire dress code for all professional settings.

    Tips for prospective students

Hampton is a wonderful school to attend to learn who you are, what your interested in as well as an education. The first two years are the most important because you not only want to build a solid GPA immediately but need to build a solid social life too; at Hampton it's not always what you know but who you know.

    In three sentences

Waterfront is known as lover's lane if you walk the entire waterfront with a partner of the opposite sex rumor is you will get married to that person. Ogden circle is sacred to Hamptonians, if you cross it before graduation rumor is you will not graduate on time. Historical trademarks are the emancipation oak tree, wigwam and virginia cleveland hall.

    Bang for the buck

Since I am not from VA I have to pay double their tuition and for $32,000 I feel it is overpriced. There are no cars allowed on campus for freshman and sophmores so you have to pay for transportation off campus. There isn't much to do on campus either.

    Food and Dining

The new cafeteria is big and has a beautiful view of our waterfront. Offers a wide variety of food.

    Campus Safety

Campus safety is pretty good here. You always see police driving and/or walking around the campus. Still never walk alone because it is the surroundings and outskirts of the university that is dangerous.

    Greek Life

Greek Life is terrible here at Hampton U. There are no fraternity or sorority houses. In addition, a Greek yard is non-existent. If you had plans on pledging this is not the place for you.

    What to do for fun

I never really understood what the phrase was, Hampton is what you make it, but it really is. Everyone has their fair share of partying, but that gets old. There is not much around Hampton at all. Personally fun is hanging out with friends, but nothing more.

    Food and Dining

Recently Hampton University built a new cafe and it is absolutely beautiful. It has two floors, and you are able to see the waterfront as you eat. The negatives are that the food is not always that great, but it is bearable. Plus the workers are always angry. Sometimes you will find a upbeat worker, but very rare.

    Dorm Life

I live in Moton Hall. I personally love living here simply because it is not close to the other female dorms so no female issues. Of course you have to share a bathroom with 40+ females, but that's the life that comes with living in a dorm. The bathrooms are never really clean so I recommend having your personal hand soap and tissue.

    Academic Rigor

Here at Hampton the student body consist of about 6,000 students so the classes are very small. You will never find a class more that 50 or even 25 , just depends. This is a great thing because the teachers are able to get to know you personally. Trust me, you always need your teachers!

    Tips for prospective students

Prospective students, always remember to think highly of yourself , and act/ dress appropriately because Hampton puts their weight on their amazing students. Also, get involved in clubs that you will prosper in and let your voice be heard so change in the school can be made.

Great for these types of students

Students looking for small campus atmosphere and a variety of course offerings and majors to choose from. My current roomate is a pharmacy major which seems to be a very intersting field of study which can lead to employment after greaduation

    Bang for the buck

There are many social events and local parties. Also I enjoy the Church service on campus ... they have a a great music ministry.

    What to do for fun

I find great enjoyment in partiicipating in my sorority activites. This past semester I went through the membeship intake process. I have formed great friendships with many new people and become much more active in campus activities

    Food and Dining

The food was good at times but I believe it was laced with laxatives as I always needed to use the bathroom immediately following my meal. We currently have a beautiful cafeteria with large widows looking out to the water and the food has improved. We have a salad bar which is ample with variety. They tend to serve soul food like fried chicken and waffles on Sundays.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is not the greatest. You will have a roomate and many of the rooms are small. The bathroom facilities leave a lot to be desired. We recently got washer and dryers in some of the dorms. When I was on campus I had to schlep all my laundry across campus. No personal automobiles allowed freshman and sophomore years.

    Academic Rigor

The academics are challenging especially when you first arrive. The required courses require a great deal of work reading and writing and some courses are more tests.

    Tips for prospective students

I would strongly suggest you come prepared in your Freshman year to really focus and work hard on the required courses completion. The social life will always be there donn't over do it. I have seen too many students not make it after the first two semesters because they were partying too hard.

Hampton University is a very safe campus. HUPD takes their jobs very seriously and they definitely oversee the safety of the campus as well as the students. Campus safety is not something students worry about.

    Greek Life

The Greeks are active on the campus of Hampton University. The sororities include but are not limited to the AKA's, the Delta's and the Zeta;'s. The fraternities include but are not limited to the Que's, the Kappa's and the Alpha's.

    Clubs and Activities

There are plenty of clubs and activites on campus. Almost every student at Hampton by their sophomore year is in a club. It is also easy to create a club of your own if you'd like.

Great for these types of students

Hampton is great for students willing to try a brand new lifestyle. There are so many different types of people that come to Hampton, and we all mesh into one big family. The only way to know if Hampton is for you is to come.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

One of the most well known locations on campus is the waterfront. The waterfront can be home to gatherings by day and couples by night. It is rumor, that if you and a certain someone walk the entire waterfront path together, that you will get married.

    Bang for the buck

Hampton University is rather expensive. Instead of paying for the best facilities and top notch books with top notch professors, one is paying for the tradition, prestige and power of having a Hampton University degree. However, the tuition could be knocked down a few thousand dollars.

    What to do for fun

Hampton, Va is not exactly the most fun place to be. In order to have fun most students travel to surrounding cities such as Newport News, Norfolk, Virginia Beach and Richmond to have fun. Having fun is what you make it, Hampton does have a beach close by and movie theaters and roller rinks.

    Food and Dining

Hampton University has a brand new dining facility that is gorgeous and located at the entrance of campus. The student center offers the fan favorite Chick-fil-a Express and a Starbucks like cafe, as well as the Pirate Grill. There are good food places in the surrounding areas of campus, the most popular is Chipotle.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is not the greatest at Hampton. After freshman year, most students are ready to move off of campus. However, there are many dorms that are very nice that students do not take advantage of simply because they are so lowkey.

    Academic Rigor

Academics truly depend on your major, however there is no such thing as an easy major. The professors at hampton very from easy to very hard don't take them, but it all depends on how you learn. Take academics seriously.

    Tips for prospective students

There are a few things as a freshman, that students may have to adjust to, but the adjustments are definitely tools to success. Be aware that Hamptonians are there own breed, and to be a Hamptonian is an honor that will truly take you places. Take every opportunity offered at Hampton, make yourself known.

I don't get out much, but On-Campus the athletic games are fun and the Holland parties are usually good. The block parties are the most fun. Ballroom parties are okay. I have yet to explore Off-campus activities because taxi's in Hampton are expensive.

    Food and Dining

The cafe is a big, beautiful, brand new building and the workers in the cafe are pleasant. The food will forever be an adjustment, but you get used to it after a while. Best advice is find one thing you like most in the cafe and stick with it.

    Dorm Life

Hardest thing to adjust to is sharing a bathroom with a ton of girls. I lucked out with a big room, but the smaller rooms are livable if you keep them tidy. Twitchell Hall is the best Freshman female dorm! Twitchell Trendsetter! :)

    Academic Rigor

My first semester was fairly easy (as it should be), but as you take higher level courses the work will get more intense. HU is very big on group projects which are not always fun or easy, but you will get through them.

Hampton University is not for everyone. You will have to be serious to be successful here. Networking is a very important factor at HU. Hampton molds students into professionals so get ready!

    Food and Dining

The new cafeteria structure is very nice. the food is okay, it holds you over for the year until you dont want to be on a meal plan. the price is good for food 3 times a day for a year, unlike buying your own food every month adds up.

    Dorm Life

Living on campus the first year is very good because you are close to all your classes, bathrooms clean themselves(they dont stay clean long), you meet new people and connections that live in the dorm, and close to the cafe.

    Academic Rigor

There are a lot of parties and things to do that will distract, try to not prcrastinate and ask questions. Dont bring too much when moving in and go to the library. The library makes studying easier and more acessible.

    Greek Life

Greek Life is amazing! I am an AKA and I love every bit it of. Not only do we have the Divine Nine Organizations on campus, but we have band greeks, honors greeks, etc. Being a Greek is so much more than just wearing the colors and getting a name. One should be very passionate about what he or she wants to join, and one needs to be prepared to put in a ton of work and time. This is a lifetime commitment. And it is something that I am 110% dedicated to. :)

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

At Hampton we have a week dedicated to each organization on campus which is fun. During those weeks different activities and programs go on to inform you and get more people to join. Each Greek organization also has a week, and those are always entertaining and fun. We also have an annual Battle of the States competition to give freshman the opportunity to strut their stuff down the runway and show off their dance skills to rep their region. There is so much more!

    Bang for the buck

Yes, Hampton is worth the money! The main purpose of college is to learn, study, and come out with a degree. The teachers here will prepare you for that.

    What to do for fun

Everyone's definition of fun is different. We have sports games to attend, fashion shows, dance shows, step shows, open mic nights, an open game room, weekend parties, and a shopping outlet with several movies theaters and restaurants near by.

    Food and Dining

The food is pretty good. Our new cafeteria just opened up in august of 2012 which was definitely a step up. We also have small fast food places around campus where you can eat from too. So we have a small variety.

    Dorm Life

The dorm life is average. Some dorms are nicer than others, which is a given. Just be positive, keep your area clean and make sure your floor mates do the same!!

    Academic Rigor

Hampton's academics will vary according to one's major. The basic fundamental classes are challenging at times, but nothing that cannot be understood or overcame.

    Tips for prospective students

You should definitely come to Hampton! Our campus is slowly evolving into something great, between the new buildings, the new majors, and the new organizations. College life is what you make it, so do not listen to people who say Hampton is boring. It is only boring if you MAKE it boring and sit around doing nothing. Go out and party, take a cab to the city or the malls, or get involved in an organization on campus. This is an amazing school. Make sure you are prepared to work and you do not go wild your first semester, I have seen many people drop out or flunk out because they did not balance their school work properly.

    In three sentences

Hampton University is a very historical school. There are so many majors, and things to do to get involved. I would definitely recommend this school.

    Campus Safety

Hampton, Virginia was ranked the friendliest place in America a few years ago, so it is exceedingly safe out here.

    Greek Life

Greek life is okay. It has drastically improved in the last two years. Unfortunately we still do not have the entire Divine 9 on campus yet. But rumors say that they are bound to all be back in the semi near future.

    Clubs and Activities

There are a number of clubs that students can get involved with on campus, and I believe that there may really be a club for everyone.

Great for these types of students

Students who want to go away for school, but are still trying to experience a family atmosphere.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

We have our world renowned Ogden Circle, which is a patch of grass in the dead center of the campus surrounded by a number of flags. According to campus superstition, if you walk across the grass, you won't graduate on time.

    Bang for the buck

The school is a little bit on the pricey side, but they do a great job of bringing on campus recruiters to the school to offer jobs. They also have a beautiful campus, which I believe attracts a number of students.

    What to do for fun

For the most part, we attend school sponsored parties, as well as parties hosted by greek organizations. We also attend sporting events, such as basketball and football games. In addition, many students frequent the beach nearby.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria food is not very good at all, honestly. Many students have meal plans, but complain about having to spend a lot of money eating out, because of the poor quality of the cafeteria food.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are fairly old and small in all honesty. Because they are so old, you are not allowed to have refrigerators or microwaves in your dorm rooms. They do have a dorm fridge and microwave, but I wouldn't recommend you leaving your food in the fridge for too long.

    Academic Rigor

All in all, the classes are challenging. I would be lying if I said they weren't. Despite this fact, I do genuinely believe that they are all reasonable in regards to the amount of work given.

    What to do for fun

I really do not go out that much since we are considered to be located in the more rural areas of Virginia. Sometimes i go to the movies with my friends or out to eat and then there are parties that come up occasionally; however, I haven't been to interested in those since my main concern this semester was to get all A's.

    Food and Dining

Depending on what you get the food can be pretty good, I do often have to apply salt and pepper to my food here. I guess they do not season the food too much on account of the cooks do not know what some people call spicy and what others do not. And the also have to take allergies into affect.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are kind of on the dirty side, I really feel as though it is the girls that I am living with. People do come and clean the bathrooms but careless girls, with what it seems like no home training, always find a way to dirty it up. It is close to disgusting.

    Academic Rigor

There are sometimes that I will feel swamped with work but once i get it done quickly and on time then I do not feel as stressed. However, I do get stressed pretty often, especially around midterm and final time.

    Tips for prospective students

Make friends with your professors. Do not procrastinate when you get assignments. Partying all the time is not good.

    In three sentences

I like that I can get around campus easily. The atmosphere is quiet, just like home and I am comfortable here. The small amount of students that attend this university allows me to have a better relationship with my professors.
