Categories Comments Great for these types of students I am a teen mother, this school is extremely flexible for me and my child. They even have a day care on campus. Which my child attends to free, because of financial aid!
Tips for prospective students Make sure you fill out your financial aid and do whatever you have to do. Because you do not have to pay to be a student here. Tuition is not even that much!
Bang for the buck The financial aid is ABSOLUTELY great there. And ever since President Obama changed the grueling process of financial aid eligibility. I basically go to school free!

Categories Comments Campus Safety Lots of friendly security and plenty of cameras, very comfortable feeling
Clubs and Activities Student Government- Gay Alliance- BSU and plenty more.
Great for these types of students I am a parent and have received lots of help through Hacc's Keys program, daycare- study habits- budget planning and much more.
What to do for fun I use the gym in my spare time or maybe some volley ball.
Food and Dining Low cost great meals and a large variety on health meals
Dorm Life Extremely pleasant ,respectful, clean and safe
Academic Rigor This is a first semester for me and I have used all of the academic services available for students to achieve. Try them. Classes are very well paced.
Tips for prospective students There are plenty of workshops, tutoring classes and academic advisers, to assist you in achieving the best grade possible. Even if you feel the need to just speak with someone all doors at Hacc are open. They will help in any way possible. Just ask questions and you will get answers.
In three sentences It has been several years since i have attended a school, i was feeling overwhelmed with the thought of returning and was considering not coming. From the time I requested an application I have been able to receive help from the entire Hacc Administration whom all have expressed a true concern for my every need to help me succeed. Thank for not allowing me to face and surpass my inner fears and leave!

Categories Comments Great for these types of students I am a mother of a daughter who is barely 2 and she is always wanting to be right with me. I have my fiance watch her when I am at school, but they do give you a phone number to call and get babysitting for cheap. Just because you call the number does not mean you are going to get a discount though, all depends on how much your income is. Would be nice if they had a on- site day care, but they don't. Hacc York works with your schedule and understands that people have lives outside from school.
Tips for prospective students I would say that you have to keep you head on straight and don't get distracted with all the little stuff. Make sure you do your homework and STUDY STUDY STUDY! College is nothing like High school.
Bang for the buck Yes, you get your moneys worth, but no matter what you still have to pay back your loan money after you graduate with the degree you receive. They give you a 6 month grace period after completing you schooling. I think it is still cheaper that enrolling is a university. Eventually I am going to have to transfer to another college because one downfall is that Hacc does not have bachelors degree programs.
Am enjoying being here Yes, I have a daughter and it gives me time to do something for myself. Attending the York campus is pretty awesome because you get to meet tons of people you would have never met before. Only downside, they do not have child care.
Am learning a lot The teachers here are amazing. I have never had a problem with a teacher never wanting to help assist me in a question I might have in their class. I am in my second semester and I am part time, I learn as much as a full time student and enjoy every bit of it. You hear a lot from the students and even the teachers on what other teachers are good to take for different subjects! Helps out in the long run!

Categories Comments Campus Safety I feel comfortable. There are camera's, and the parking lots are well lit. Security is always around.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Since I have a family, I have not attended to any campus activities.
Bang for the buck This school is worth every single penny. You have an option to rent your books if you don't want to buy them. If you do buy your books you can return them at the end of the semester and you can get some of your money back.
What to do for fun I try to spend as much time with my family. Since it is hot, we tend to go to the park a lot and get in the pool. But on campus, there is a bullentin board and they post discount tickets to Hershey Park.
Food and Dining I eat at home but there are fast foods and restaurant's in the area.
Dorm Life I live in my own home.
Academic Rigor The professors expect the best out of every student. They expect for the students to meet deadlines when essays are due.
Tips for prospective students The first thing I learned when I started college, you have to enter with a positive attitude. I took that advice to the heart and it really makes a difference.
In three sentences I am really grateful that I made the decision to go to HACC. I really enjoyed all of the professors I had so far. Because of them, I really enjoy participating in class when they ask questions.

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students Don't be afraid to give HACC a try. Get to know your professors (they don't bite) and don't be afraid to ask them questions! Think about it. They could be making so much more money elsewhere. Yet they chose to work here because they love to teach.
Bang for the buck There is no other place comparable to HACC when it comes to tuition. Who ever heard of getting through Nursing School without paying for it with an arm or a leg?
Am enjoying being here The atmosphere is great, especially for me since I grew up in a rural area of Pennsylvania.
Am learning a lot The professors are amazing. So many of them are there because they have a desire to teach (not because of the pay)!

Tips for prospective students Use ratemyprofessor.com to help you find the best professor for the subject but don't always believe the reviews (Ex: my favorite psychology professor got horrible reviews). and work hard. Take advantage of the certificate of residency and financial aid.

Am enjoying being here The campus is beautiful and the people are so diverse, I love it!
Am learning a lot In general the professors are great and experts in their field. If they don't know something they will help you figure it out. I have learned so much in my fist 3 semesters.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus security right inside the front door. well light parking lot. No apparent threat noted. Very comfortable campus to attend located in a good area.
Clubs and Activities I do not know much about this because I work full-time and attend school part- time with other life obligations therefore I do not participate in any and am not aware of what they are.
Great for these types of students Students who are overwhelmed by large confusing campuses and large classrooms. It is great for students who also have a lot of other obligations in their life such as children, jobs etc as class times are very flexible.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I don't have anything to comment about this area.
Bang for the buck I have no complaints on tuition, I think it is very reasonable and worth it.
What to do for fun I don't do much on campus. I am a full time employee as an LPN and go to school part time with other obligations in my life but there are a lot of great activities offered in the HUB which are widely announced.
Food and Dining Subway and Ragged Edge in the hub are excellent. I wouldn't mind seeing more added but it is a small campus so I would understand if more wasn't added.
Dorm Life I live off campus. Community college also does not offer dorms.
Academic Rigor I have learned a lot in the classes I took here. I think their academics are very good and they have an excellent program with excellent teachers.
Tips for prospective students Don't be overwhelmed. Take a deep breath and and take it one day at a time. Take a campus tour and talk to other students for advice on what teachers to choose, what classes to take when etc.
In three sentences I love it. Great size of campus and classrooms. Classrooms are easy to find and campus isnt large and overwhelming. Teachers are very good and give individual attention to each student.

Categories Comments Food and Dining have not eaten there yet, but I hear it is good
Academic Rigor Anatomy an Physiology is a tough course, the teacher thoroughly goes over the material that is necessary, but not unnecessary trivia. If you study hard you will do well.
Tips for prospective students The orientation day was very informative, gave a good perspective of the college's goals. Don't bite off more than you can chew. If you are going full time, it is very difficult to work full time too. Choose your priorities work or school, and plan accordingly.
In three sentences For my first semester I have found HACC to be a wonderful experience. The advisors are actually helpful, and do everything they can to help you succeed. Going back to college after 20 years it has been a great experience.

Bang for the buck Reaonable tuition.
What to do for fun You are in Harrisburg - the Capitol of Pennsylvania! Visit the state museum or take a run along the Susquehanna river. HMAC also offers music events for local bands.
Food and Dining There is not a large variety in the cafe but they do have reasonable options for reasonable prices. The schedule is also flexible so that you can stop in between classes.
Academic Rigor They classes will challenge you but they do not require unreasonable amounts of work. I took a PE, sociology, and an algebra course in one semester while working. Definitely Do-able!

Food and Dining The food is just cafeteria food, nothing fancy. Most of us pack lunches. They do have a subway inside.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are campus security everywhere. Their station is right next to the ATM machine in the front lobby. Everyone gets and ID card and a parking pass. If you are parked without a pass they will question you if you are there for a long period of time. Great neighborhood.
Clubs and Activities There are a lot of things to get involved with.
Great for these types of students Working students, mothers fathers and so on.
Bang for the buck Classes are not too expensive and you can take a semester off if you need to. You can get your associates degree there without having to transfer out.
What to do for fun There is a lot of things surrounding each campus. Get involved with the school to do activities.
Food and Dining Peaceful place to eat lunch inside or outside as well. Coffee bar located in the food area with seat and tables or lounge chairs by the fire place. Study and eat or eat and talk. Food a little more expensive in the cafeteria.
Dorm Life This is a community college no dorm life. Although they have a coffee bar at the Gettysburg location and cafeteria.
Academic Rigor Depending your instructor depends on the rigor. This school is very much persistent in not missing classes or being late. If there is a scheduling conflict and you discuss with teacher more than likely you will be allowed to miss class. You can be put on a watch list for poor grades.
Tips for prospective students Since there is so many campuses make sure you research ahead of time to check where your classes are being offered. The campuses are about an hour away depending and some classes are only offered at certain campuses.
In three sentences This is a very friendly atmosphere. Plently of parking. Very big campus.

Categories Comments Campus Safety You cant go anywhere without seeing security around. The security office is right as you walk in the main entrance.
Greek Life There really is none.
Great for these types of students Working students definitely. Non-traditional students, those who have been out of the game for a few years and want to get back. Anyone with kids.
Bang for the buck This is a GREAT starter school. I took all of my pre-requsits at HACC-York and have exhausted all the possible classes that I can take, even taking some classes towards my bachelor's. I have now just transferred for my clinicals. Comparatively, its ALOT cheaper per credit. FAFSA, assuming you apply and win it, is more than enough to cover your school expenses, including books.
What to do for fun Well...not much really. Its basically all focused on your studies. There are some clubs and organizations. The school has a movie night every week or month. Sometimes they organize events and trips to New York. But its not a big campus so, not really much to do.
Food and Dining Again, its a community college, therefor there is no dining hall or anything. Sometimes there is a food cart that stays out in the parking lot that you can buy lunch from. Other then that there are vending machines and also the book store sells some food. My dad works down the street at the post office so sometimes he drops off some food for me because i am at school all day.
Dorm Life They don't have dorms at HACC-York, nor do i think that any of the campuses do. However, there are apartments right across the street from the school and condos right next to the school as well. So if you had to move to attend, you could. I only live an hour away so i didn't find a need to.
Academic Rigor This school really is all about the academics. I mean, there isn't much time for much else. Yes, they try to accommodate everyone by having clubs and some activities. To my knowledge only the main campus has sports teams. I attend at York so we do not.
Tips for prospective students You don't have to take the classes in the order that the counselors give you. Take your time. Your in community college after all. Its expected that you have to work and have family to care for. Yeah it might take a little longer, but taking your time and getting that A is better then rushing through and getting a C.
In three sentences HACC is a great starter school, especially for anyone looking to transfer. Its cheap, comparatively, and is very flexible with class schedules. However, its office staff seems to always be misinformed and contradict one another.

Great for these types of students All types of students can apply. I am a married & a mother of seven and I found the other students of varying ages and backgrounds too.
Bang for the buck The most affordable college around
What to do for fun HACC has alot for students to get involved in. Sports, theater, clubs, you can find something to get into the school spirit here
Food and Dining Great choices and affordable
Academic Rigor I find the classes challenging but there is so much help on campus that you shouldn't struggle very hard unless you don't ask for assistance.
Tips for prospective students Arrive to class a few minutes early or on time. It is a huge disruption to the professor and the other students when you arrive late.
In three sentences I love this school. The instructors are approachable, the classes are enjoyable and the students are very friendly.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are always security vehicles in the parking lot whether it is daylight or night. They are there watching out for your protection.
Clubs and Activities I know that they have a lot of clubs and activities, I haven't got the chance to sign up for any yet due to only attending online classes at the moment. I am looking forward to maybe joining some when I start attending classes on campus.
Great for these types of students If you have a lot of self-discipline online classes are great for you.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I am a new student, so I haven't really got the chance to see any traditions here yet.
What to do for fun They are always having activities to do. They put the activities on their home page as well as e-mail them to you to join in.
Food and Dining They have a Subway, a food bar, and an Italian restaurant for the students to choose from on campus. They also have vending machines.
Dorm Life This college doesn't have any dorms.
Academic Rigor You are expected to do your best.
Tips for prospective students Don't be afraid to ask questions whether you think that they are stupid or not, somebody else might be wanting to know the same thing.
In three sentences I am currently attending this college online and will be going to the campus in June for my next class. So far with the online classes, everybody seems friendly and eager to help you with any questions that you have. If you have a question for the teacher, she responds very quickly and gives examples if needed.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus safety is really good. There are patrols that drive through the campus often. Also there are alert stations throughout the parkinglots to help assist you when it's dark/unsafe.
Food and Dining There are many food options inside the Cooper Student Center; healthy choices available too! Also lots of vending machines of all sorts. I've always enjoyed my experience/was able to find affordable options.
Dorm Life There is no dorm set up for this school.
Academic Rigor Each 3credit course that you take requires about 6-10 hours worth of work per week outside of class. Each class is valuable for the major you're attending for.

Categories Comments Campus Safety We have excellent security staff on every campus. I go to the Gettysburg Campus and it is really safe.
Clubs and Activities So many to choose from: National Honor Society, Business Club, SGA, Ski and Board Club, History Club, and so many others. And HACC has amazing study abroad trips, and we also have local trips every month.
Great for these types of students EVERYONE is welcome here no matter your age, sexual orientation, religion, or background. We have a beautiful diversity here.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus We are in the middle of Gettysburg, so if you like Ghost Tours, we go on them often!
Bang for the buck HACC is an excellent, fully accredited college. The education you get here will be just as good if not better than the education you would get at a more expensive college. But it's not as expensive, that's the great thing!
What to do for fun HACC has a lot of different clubs you can get involved in and Gettysburg can be a lot of fun, there are a lot of things you can do whether or not you like history. And we are close to DC and Baltimore and New York if you want to take a trip on the weekend.
Food and Dining My campus has a Subway and a Ragged Edge and the food is always good, and mostly healthy. :0)
Dorm Life I think there may be some residential places for Harrisburg students, but other than that we don't have dorms.
Academic Rigor The classes are challenging and interesting. They will expand your mind and teach you new ways of thinking. You will learn a lot and every class I've had has been really interesting and all the professors are great. I think anyone who wants to do well will do well, but the courses here have high standards of excellence.
Tips for prospective students If you want a great education without spending a fortune, and you want an environment you will be happy in, HACC is for you. Build good relationships with your professors, be part of campus life, meet new people. You'll love it. You can even work here as a work study! Also, if you are military, or former military, or a spouse or child of a military member, you want to come here! We'll take really great care of you here. Fill out your FAFSA, EVERYONE! With how affordable HACC is you really COULD go to school for free!
In three sentences HACC is a truly excellent community college that will give you a lot of value for your money. You will receive an excellent education and make meaningful connections with the people here. You can be involved as much or as little as you want, but no matter what your goal, you can reach it here.

Great for these types of students Students with financial troubles. Students with bad high school grades. Students without a car.
Bang for the buck It is rather cheap to go here, but buy your textbooks from Amazon, trust me on this. I found a book marked $84.00 in the bookstore and $2.50 on Amazon, in good condition and some highlighting.
What to do for fun The only fun things are the clubs, occasional free food, and computer access.
Food and Dining They have meager snacks at the bookstore and frozen food. Dry food include things like instant ramen and mac n cheese, chip bags, candy, etc.
Dorm Life The campus buildings are walking distance apart, so it's very convenient.
Academic Rigor So far, the teacher's have been very helpful and are good at teaching. I like it a lot.
Tips for prospective students On your first advising session, don't go alone unless you already know what you want to do. Don't let them choose stupid classes just to take your money. Look and choose classes beforehand, it is much less stressful that way.
In three sentences The classes are small like a normal high school, so you really get good teachings instead of a huge lecture hall where you don't count. I thought the advising process was very very stressful; they don't make it easy on you unless you already know what you want to do. Academic Rigor It depends on the professor you have for each class. It also depends on whether you enroll in a late start classes, or regular starting date classes. If you enroll in summer classes, these classes are fairly fast paced due to the lengh of each summer session.

I also knew that this community college has one of the best nursing programs of any of the other community colleges in the state of Pennsylvania. So far, attending this college has been an extremely good decision for me.
