Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students who are not Texas residents may want to start here. Although I am still paying out of state tuition it is much cheaper than the University of Houston, and the University of Houston Down-Town. I intend to transfer but this is a great way to save money. I have realized that many of my classmates are students who are currently attending other universities and taking classes at the community college to save money. The great thing is, most of the professors also teach at other universities, for example, my biology teacher also teaches at the University of Houston and Sam Houston University.
Tips for prospective students Be sure to take care of your financial aid, enrollment, and any other school related paper work well before the semester begins, no a week or two before. If you do decide to wail until the last minuet make sure you clear up you entire week! Oh, and bring an iPod or some form of entertainment while you wait on line for two hours. And no, trying to do things over the phone does not usually work, they like to give you the run around, take my word for it. When it comes to enrolling for classes talking to people before choosing a professor that would be right for you. Personally... I don't know many people pursuing my major so when looking at professors I check out rate my professor, it is not always accurate but it it much better than walking around in the dark.
Bang for the buck I would say the resources the college offers are worth the tuition, which is actually a saving from the cost of universities. Every department has a class room where you can find tutors on call for most of the day. Occasionally a professor will lead a review session which anyone is more than welcome to sit in on and ask questions. Most of the time the review is conducted based on the questions students have.
Am enjoying being here The campus is a pretty friendly place, surprisingly the financial aid department is too. When it comes to finding the answers to specific questions it can be tiresome to find a clear and accurate answer with time, patients, and dedication you WILL find an answer. Recently I have discovered the gym, there is a basketball court, ellipticals, treadmills, weights. etc and a pool about 25 meters in length, no I have yet to measure it but it looks about 25 meters so don't hold me to it. The campus also has a a nice student lounge with a a nice view. The student cafeteria has a very nice selection of food. If your not in the mood for what the college has on their lunch menu you can always walk across the street to subway, a little burger place, or a very good pizza place down the block. (Highly Recommended!)
Am learning a lot If you take you education seriously I feel that it does not matter where you go to school, although a prestigious university doesn't hurt, it is what you make of it. Being that many of the professors teach at near by universities they know how to give a you challenge when needed. The classes are very informative and may of professors are dedicated to helping their students understand the material.

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students If you are planning to assist to HCC please visit any HCC Campus. Check on the counselors to give you a tour, explain how schedule works, and what classes are transferable if you are planning to go university, and is really big save up.
Am enjoying being here Do I enjoy? I certainly do, Theirs no way I will not enjoy. The instructors of HCC have patience of helping you out just let them know and set up an appointment with them and they sure will help you. Even though we have tutors that help you on your class subjects. Counselors are really nice to students and welling to help you.
Am learning a lot Yes, I am really learning a lot, basically we as students. All it requires to pay attention when instructors gives instructions and please take notes that will be so much easier for you to move on and pass . A tip when your instructor gives you a quiz make sure you keep it well save, so you can go back and review it. Why? it may show up some questions on your test and sometimes even on your finals.

Tips for prospective students make sure you check campuses and professor ratings, take carefully detail into planning your schedule, this is because when you apply for say southwest it lists classes in all southwest campuses, specify campus because you might apply for classes at two campuses by accident having to spend the day going to different campuses.
Am learning a lot this is a great college, but i have to say it varies greatly by campus, i have been to two different ones, one i cant stand, and one i love. this is just like any other college, many students are mistaken to think it will be easier because it is a community college, they have high standards. Like in all schools it depends on the professors that you have, some are great and some, not so much. overall i love it, meet many great people, like my classes was helped with the financial aid process, and i am saving alot of money and getting my AP credits . over all it is great, i do suggest however you check out the campus and ask around about the on you want to go to. counted for with 3's while some universities require 4's

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students well a tip i can give for future student going into college is that if you don't want get stress a lot and you learn better in small classes go to HCC and finish all your basic there and then take your major in a university.
Bang for the buck well with the money for paying i say its much cheaper and easy to pay for the classes because they don't cost as much that in a university.
Am enjoying being here yes i enjoy being in HCC a lot you meet a lot of nice people and theirs places you can spend time while waiting for your next class like a game room, library, and a cafe where you can eat and a pretty view of nature.
Am learning a lot yes i have learn a lot in HCC the teachers are great and funny which it makes it easier to understand them because they teach in a way that we teenagers understand and communicate.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students who want the academics for a cheap price with the same curriculum, HCC is the best place for you. Students who work better in a small teacher student ratio then HCC is the best for you. HCC is also an indoor institute and the classes along with parking is within walking distance. If you're a student who fits this criteria, HCC is the best pick for you!
Tips for prospective students I would suggest that you apply earlier, see your counselor ASAP to register for classes. I would also suggest that you apply to FAFSA and get the finances taken care of, so that you don't have to struggle when paying for classes first and getting it refunded. It's a hassle to be dealing with that. I also suggest that you should take time to STUDY STUDY STUDY because that's all you do in college. STUDY. There's midterms, pop quizzes and the dreadful final exams. And the professors expect you to have followed the syllabus and read the text and study on your own. Attending classes when required is necessary too because you wouldn't want to pay for a class that you get dropped for just because you didn't come to class.
Bang for the buck HCC is REALLY cheap compared to other universities. I plan to transfer to HBU the following academic year. It's quite expensive. But if you build a schedule and make good grades as well as apply to FAFSA and Scholarships, you're set to go! HCC is also a good place to take summer school classes, cheap and they transfer to your university if you were attending elsewhere in Houston. If you plan to transfer to another university after getting an associates degree, make yourself eligible for Phi Theta Kappa which is an honor society for students who have a 3.5 GPA and higher. Some universities have that organization offered there and they give scholarships because you were in good standing with HCC's Phi Theta Kappa! It's an excellent opportunity.
Am enjoying being here I do enjoy being here, but at the same time, I'm in my own bubble, because most of my colleagues and friends are at different colleges and mostly in universities. There are few that attend HCC with me. But I get to make new friends, and they're all of different ages with great personalities and unique stories. The professors are all nice here as well. It's a positive, friendly and clean environment to be around.
Am learning a lot Even though, HCC isn't the school I chose to go to, it isn't that bad. The professors will teach you one on one if you need help with something that they're teaching. They have tutoring centers to help students accomplish their work. The classes are about 1:25 student teacher ratio and the professors get personal because they know your name. The professors at HCC are caring and they will try to help you the best that they can.

In three sentences Houston Community College is somewhat affordable and most of the professors instructing the class are reasonable. However the HCC system needs to work on being a little more organized and together.

Categories Comments Campus Safety guns, and stabbings , there are cops everywhere because of all the dreadlock thugs walking around with their shirts off trying to have sex with white girls in the parking lot..what a freakin joke. its like the worst ghetto high school you can imagine.
Food and Dining garbage.
Academic Rigor THERE ARE DRUGS EVERYWHERE.PArking lot, bathrooms, drugs drugs drugs. The professors are racist toward white people, and literally curse you out to try to make you drop the class. The professors wont be references either. You cannot get a job with the education from hcc.Waste of money and time.
Tips for prospective students DO NOT ATTEND HERE. For ems , goto a local firehouse and do their ems classes. For nursing, goto ut,or uh of victoria, or lamar university of beaumont. HCC IS THE MOST TRASHY PLACE IVE EVER ATTENDED.
In three sentences WHAT A NIGHTMARE. The professors will literally curse at you in front of the whole class even if you have the highest grade in class. Then everyone laughs. You pay good money, only to be called an ahole a bunch of times by a psycho professor.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Don't get discouraged! At the end of the day as long as you know you are getting an education, that is all that matters.
Tips for prospective students Some tips that I would give for prospective students to fill out their FASFA forms as fast as possible because it's a first come first serve basis. I also highly recommend that students get familiar with their degree plans and core requirements before picking classes. Don't trust all advisors but really trust in what you know or else you will end up paying for classes you don't need.
Bang for the buck Although it's a community college, I don't agree with the out-of district fees; however, I do agree that it is cheaper than university tuition. The secret that most universities don't tell you is that their professors work part time at community college so you are getting the same quality education at a cheaper price. Pretty neat if you ask me.
Am enjoying being here I love the overall atmosphere of the college. It reminds me of high school all over again and community college is very different fro universities. Considering how I transferred from Houston Baptist University, I would have to say that this has a comfortable social atmosphere. The professors are friendly and people are cooperative when it comes to group assignments.
Am learning a lot It's very hard to learn if you don't motivate yourself to learn. It's my first semester here and I think it's an overall great school; however, if you don't learn to learn the material for yourself, the work can get overwhelming on test days. The professors serve as the facilitators of the classroom but it's the student's job to learn.

Bang for the buck Its worth attending.
Did enjoy being here I enjoyed attending there very much. If I didn't have to move I would still be attending. I'm planning to attend summer school there.
Did learn a lot I have to say I learned a lot because the teachers there really do help you and try to put things in a way that you will understand.

Tips for prospective students If you want to continue your education, but have the need to work at the same time, this college is for you. The transition is easy and the staff is very helpful to accommodate you along the way.
Bang for the buck Although the school is tough on awarding an financial aide because of the tedious process that seems never ending, the costs is affordable since they offer a variety of payment plans.
Am enjoying being here The class room sizes make it easy to learn and stay involved in the classroom discussions. The days and times are also very flexible making attending convenient for working, single parents like me.
Am learning a lot The professors are very knowledgeable in their field of study and have a passion for teaching the students all there is to know.

Categories Comments Campus Safety While I was in class, my instructor's motorcycle was stolen from the parking lot. He told us it was the third time in a year he is aware of crime happening in the parking lot at that campus. He loved that bike and the topic was a sad/sore one for the remainder of the semester. Needless to say, on breaks we always checked on our cars after that. I never really felt safe on campus, despite the ineffective security guard who drives around in a golf cart with the blue flashing beacon.
Clubs and Activities I've never seen any clubs or activities on an HCC campus.
Great for these types of students HCC is great for those who don't mind or will never notice the billing tricks and those who don't have another college experience against which to compare. Once you've attended a real college, though, you will never return to HCC.
Bang for the buck For the same money, I could have gone to Lone Star and gotten an awesome campus. I could also have just gone to UH to begin with for about the same price. HCC is not easier at all due to poor instruction. Their scam-like hidden pricing and billing mistakes that cannot be disputed or questioned seal the deal. HCC is a rip-off and a joke on all angles, no matter how nice I try to be about it.
What to do for fun There is no fun to be had on an HCC campus in my experience.
Food and Dining Coke machine.
Dorm Life There are no dorms here, but I think UH offers their spare dorms to HCC students. The recreation available is a coke machine, an ancient plush chair with the odor of ancient cigarette smoke and a 20 year old Sears Roebuck wooden pool table missing a ball.
Academic Rigor Over the two years I attended, I consistently encountered instructors who were underpaid and under-qualified to be teaching their respective subjects. In many cases, students knew far more about the subject matter than the instructors. In several cases, the books taught us more than in-class instruction.
Tips for prospective students Warning: the quality of the education here is not worth the ongoing billing issues and inability to stand up for yourself against their nefarious billing errors. They will withhold all of your credits unless you pay their erroneous bills. I feel I've been completely scammed, and you probably will too when you have this experience.
In three sentences The class quality and admin has been consistently terrible across three different campuses over two years. Their billing is very shady, and they keep sending new bills for old courses from a couple years ago along with strange fees that didn't exist when I took the courses. There's no way to challenge or question the weird bills except talk to student employees who are as clueless as I am about it.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students It's great for students who don't really like a crowd. It's good for students who like small campuses and a lot of quiet areas.
What to do for fun There's nothing really fun to do because it is just a community college, but you can go out with the friends you meet.
In three sentences It's a pretty small campus, so you get more quiet time to study. It is very easy to find your way around. The professors are very friendly, and they love what they do.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck As I mention, very affordable for basics.
Food and Dining Local places are located by the college.
Dorm Life It is a community college,no dorms are available.
Academic Rigor It is very important to keep your grades up, no matter what school you attend. It helps you advance in many areas and it also shows your comprehension in the courses. Although sometimes mistakes happen and things do occur, they are willing to help you in anyway available.
Tips for prospective students Do not be afraid to ask questions. Continue to search for your answer if you aren't satisfied with the first answer. Get yourself educated in all you need to know to help your future and your personal goals.
In three sentences It is a great school to get started with degree basics, and the prices are very helpful with budgets. I enjoyed most of professors who also taught at university levels. Many of the employees were helpful in my process of pursing my education goals.

Food and Dining There are snack and soda machines available in the buildings.
Dorm Life I never lived in a dorm.
Academic Rigor Depends on the teacher, their mastery will make you angry or happy. The worst is being disappointed in what is your point from the teacher is not revealed well.
Tips for prospective students Look for a carEEr in something you like to do for the rest of your life. HCCS counselors has a catalog which you could browse and find a specialization with you.
In three sentences When you find the career you want and know the industry, HCCS has many specializations for you to choose from in their catalog. HCCS counselors are available and you may go to the department which will advance you in your endeavor. If you do not know what you want, then there are tests which you could take to find out.

Dorm Life None.
Academic Rigor Very remedial, not as challenging as what you would expect out of college level classes.
Tips for prospective students If you are looking for enthusiastic teachers, check ratemyprofessor.com for the ones with good review, and prepare for high school review.
In three sentences This is not a bad school for community college, but the learning could be more challenging. The classes I am taking & have taken seem a little remedial, what is seen in high school. However over all the teachers are awesome, they are all for the most part enthusiastic about teaching their subject, which is what gets students engaged.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There is continued patrol from the Public Safety Department to where you have office's in plain clothes and uniform covering all the campuses.
Clubs and Activities There are many activities that you can become involved in expericnece the same as if you were on a university.
Great for these types of students All types of students, all campus are multicultral and all demographics intertwine with each other for the common good of the school.
Bang for the buck The course fee's are very reasonable and affordable for anyone to afford even those whom have to work and pay for their tution out of their pockets.
What to do for fun Join a school organization and become involved in the activities that is taking place while you are on your education journey.
Food and Dining Eating on campus is always cheaper than eating out at a public place for all meals.
Dorm Life Keep your dorm room in an orderly fashion and not like your room at home with your parents. Remember that you are living with other individuals and everyone has to work collectively to keep a sense of order.
Academic Rigor If this is your fisrt semester then I would advise to do the minium of six hours to see how you transition from High School to College with the courses that you have selected. Make use of all of your learning outlets such as the library ,tutors, classmates, and professors to help you succeeded.
Tips for prospective students Budget a little over what is needed for your classes just in case there is something that comes up related to the class you need. Get your textbooks as soon as you register for your classes and become familiar with the course as well as your class outline. Arrive to class early and communicate with your professor or academic advisor if there are any concerns or questions.
In three sentences Houston Community College is an open and very friendly atmosphere. The staff is very knowledgeable and always one on one with it's students. Houston Community College allows for you to grow as a student and achieve your goals with an abundance of help.

Clubs and Activities Film clubs, voice clubs, theatre, women's groups. So many activities in this college!
Great for these types of students Anyone really. HCC has a very diverse student body, and what is more they encourage you within a classroom to get to know and understand your fellow students.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus No traditions. But the libraries are wonderful, if you can search them out!
Bang for the buck The price is not terrible, but it is really hit and miss with what you get out of a class. You really need to research your professor first.
What to do for fun Join a group on campus! Some of the classes are fun too. But outside of scholastic's, they do not offer much.
Food and Dining Well, they have a convenience store, not much else...
Dorm Life No dorms, but the campus life depends on which campus you attend. The campus in Sienna is best.
Academic Rigor When you take the correct class, it is challenging. However, if you get a lazy professor, then have no worries about the difficulty of the class. And don't expect to learn much either.
Tips for prospective students Do not take just any professor, look them up! There are some really great English, Math, and Biology professors. As for homework, the load is large, but not undo-able.
In three sentences HCC is a Community College designed to help students in many ways, such as financially or in planning their college career. The professors are a diverse group, but if you find one that has been rated well, their classes are usually worth taking. They truly get you involved in your education and in the school.

Bang for the buck It is Totally worth it. It's cheap, especially for the In-district students.
What to do for fun I would say the only notable fun times are festive periods
Food and Dining The school provides cafeterias but no food is served unless on special occasions like festivals.
Dorm Life I am not aware Houston Community College has any dorm
Academic Rigor Learning is easier than a 4year university class with many students. Here you have no reason to fail, because if you have a difficult or problem, you can easily reach the professor.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you share contact with at list one student if at all you decide not to communicate with the professor. This is important because you could easily miss an information since there are not many students in the classroom is not much
In three sentences It is an affordable and brilliant school that is accessible to everyone willing to further their education. Most (to be honest; not all)of the professors have a direct connection to their students, which means student could easy contact and interact with their professors. Also, the classes are small with an average of 21 students, that makes the learning environment conducive for everyone.

Categories Comments Campus Safety most campuses are very Safe for the most part since the school is small and polices are always walking around the campus, parking lots and libraries.
Greek Life Not really!
Clubs and Activities Art, music, philosophy, sociology, speech, dance, soccer, volunteer community services, etc. you name it!
Great for these types of students This school is perfect for lower income families and international students.
Bang for the buck With the current economy status of not just the country but the world, many people from everywhere have chosen to become a student in community colleges where tuition is lower.
What to do for fun For fun, student can create their own study groups by just putting a subject sign on a table in the tutoring center. For example you can put a Physics sign on a table and next thing you know you have a group of physics students solving problems and explaining concepts for each other.
Food and Dining If you are on a campus that is surrounded by descent restaurants then you are lucky, otherwise you have to buy food from the book store which is only open for limited hours and does not really sell quality, healthy food.
Dorm Life Houston community college does not have the dorm life kind of campus.
Academic Rigor It mostly depends on the student. The school is too strict when it comes with certain rules, but at the same time since it's a small school you always have the chance to talk to the deans or heads of different departments to solve certain issues you might have.
Tips for prospective students Houston Community college has many campuses, so if for some reason you don't get the chance to sign up for a particular class, you can also check for classes on other campuses near your area.
In three sentences This school offers very small classes which allows students to have closer relationships with the professors. The professors know the students most of the time. The prices for the classes makes education affordable for most people.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students HCC is very fitting for students who are motivated to getting the task done, engaging in their academics, and trying their best to understand the material and give each class 110% effort and dedication.
Tips for prospective students Bring your documents upon registration and carefully research what you are interested in becoming and then go to a counselor to help you map out your career goals
Bang for the buck I've learned so much more from my classes from just not only the academics, but we even manage to squeeze in time to discuss life matters, such as current issues and how to change our society.
Am enjoying being here I enjoy my time here at Houston Community College because each class has taught me to open my eyes to the world and study and appreciate and value my education for every second it's worth. My professors are often humorous, challenging, strict, friendly, and very professional. I don't regret this decision!
Am learning a lot I have had the luxury of working with some of the best professors I have seen in a long time. The professors work around the clock to help students understand the material and provide as much assistance as possible with other subjects as well. Professors are generally professional in attitude, providing the material, and accurate and timely with keeping up with emails and grading assignments. I have had so many teachers ask questions what I want to be when I grow up and they help me seek my niche in academics and enjoy what I'm learning by engaging in lab tutorials, library use, interaction with other students, and other study methods I've found very useful!

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Great for students who: want to save money, need to have night or weekend classes, live at home and want a small campus.
Tips for prospective students Talk to the counselors any time to have a question. Get to know the HCCS website because it can be a bit difficult to navigate and sometimes it is a challenge to find what you are looking for. The college only offers certificates and Associates Degrees, so make sure you sign up for the right program before you pay for your classes!
Bang for the buck I am happy that community college exists for this very reason. The classes are reasonably priced and the bookstore offers used books at a reduced cost. When you're finished with the books you can even sell them back! There are also areas where students have posted flyers for books they need to sell and you can save a lot of money by contacting these students and buying their books.
Am enjoying being here The students and staff at the Katy campus and the Stafford campus are very nice. You may encounter someone you know in the HCC hallways because it is a popular choice for local high school graduates who want to save some money or for high schoolers who want a head start. I enjoy the time I spend on campus, the layouts are simple enough not to get lost and you have plenty of parking!
Am learning a lot The professors don't joke around when it comes to academics, but they are interesting and friendly people. The instruction is relevant to all exams and the classes are small enough to provide an exceptional learning environment.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I've been at HCC for a whole year, I haven't heard about any criminal activity at any of the campuses and I always see at least one police when I'm at my campus.
Clubs and Activities There is at least one club for everyone and for the overachievers there are multiple.
Great for these types of students Like I said above, HCC is specifically for people who want to go to school but can't handle the curriculum of universities.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Houston Community College has campuses all over Houston from the Northeast to Southwest. So even if you're close to the Houston area, you can most likely find an HCC.
What to do for fun I like to get involved in clubs. There is a club for everyone. From ethnic groups to religious groups to honor societies.
Food and Dining There is ALWAYS something going on in the auditorium or multi-purpose room which allows all students to come get free food. Really good food too! And there are vending machines everywhere with amazing snacks.
Dorm Life HCC doesn't have there own official dorms. They share dorms with the University of Houston. It's fun and exciting to be with the university students and ask questions about UH if you're transferring.
Academic Rigor The curriculum is simpler than universities so if you transfer, you will still have to make an adjustment academically. The teachers are very understanding which is something you probably won't get much of at a university.
Tips for prospective students If you need to save money, go here! This school is very helpful for people who have life situations that could interfere with their school work if they were in a university like children, marriage, mandatory working, etc.
In three sentences HCC is a very helpful school. It saves you money and helps get you adjusted to the college schedule. You get to begin learning the ropes of college while still being close to home.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Security level is greatly enforced.
Academic Rigor The academic rigor is quite easy to follow if given one. Most if not all are really helpful. Every chapter covered is place in your syllabus. Every test date is covered in your syllabus. All in all, it's a win win situation when it comes to your academic rigor. Everything you need to know is there.
Tips for prospective students I'm only a freshman, therefore I can only speak for freshmen. Coming out of high school does not at all prepare you for your first year entering college. I can only tell you to stay focus and pick classes along with the class times that work for you.
In three sentences I would rate Houston Community College as a B-. I believe that there should be more work given out to average out grades other then just four test grades. I also feel as if though there should be professors, whose eagerness for teaching their subject, are put in place. Its really hard for any student to maintain the drive in any subject if their professor's aspiration is not present.

Food and Dining Sometimes the prices are a little high, but everything I've had so far is delicious.
Dorm Life Didn't have a dorm.
Academic Rigor The final is made primarily by the head of the department..makes the finals rather challenging. Every class also has a group project and some kind of paper that is due as well. Students will need to take time to do them, but the classes aren't impossible to get A's in.
Tips for prospective students Know what you want to do before wasting time on classes you don't need. There are people here that would love to assist you in deciding what you want to do..Use them!

Categories Comments Food and Dining At Houston Community College, the students and staff either bring food from home or go out to eat. You can eat anywhere you want in the school which I think is wonderful.
Dorm Life There aren't any dorms in Houston Community College.
Academic Rigor I feel that the worst teachers in Houston Community College rigors the grades of students a lot because they're horrible at teaching. They just want their students to have beautiful scored so they'll be able to cash in their paychecks. I had one teacher like this, and i hated his class.
In three sentences Houston Community College is a very friendly, and arrogant school. Some teachers are horrible and just read out of the textbook while other teachers make there own stuff. It is always best to choose your classes early to get the better teacher, but overall I enjoy going to school here.

Also the financial aid office was very helpful and everyone is very upfront and knows their job.

Great for these types of students If you're looking to stay near home, save money, and still have a college experience, then HCC is for you!
Bang for the buck I cannot stress enough the benefit I have gotten from HCC. I didn't feel like I was prepared enough to move out and go to a University, so HCC was like a stepping stone for me. It is a less expensive way to still go to college, but not be shocked by the new environment.
What to do for fun Even though it is a community college, there are still sports teams, social clubs, and all kinds of fun ways to get involved and meet other students.
Food and Dining There is a little cafe on my campus and they have the best sandwiches you/ll ever have!
Dorm Life No dorms at HCC. Another plus, you can live at home and do laundry for free!
Academic Rigor Classes are just as challenging as they would be at a university, but you have the advantage of smaller classes! Teachers will go out of their way to help you and there are always tutors so take advantage of that!
Tips for prospective students Take as many of your basics at HCC as you can and dabble around in basic classes for your major. That way if you happen to not enjoy what you wanted your major to be, it's so much less expensive than if you were at a University to change your major.

What to do for fun Hcc has lots of clubs and organizations that students can join and make their voices heard. Also there are many fun activities during the school year that will keep the students busy im site.
Food and Dining Dinning is something I haven't seen that much in the campuses I have attented. I don't have any specific information.
Dorm Life Well I live out of campus and I don't have that much information about the form life. However I know hcc offers some amazing deals in this field. You save money and you get service, what else do you want ?
Academic Rigor Here in hcc, teachers are super nice and friendly, but when they give you work, they demand it on the deadline date. It is not like high school and students can't be that flexible with their schedule. Teachers are very serious with their task.
Tips for prospective students Take your classes on time, choose your teachers wisely, and try to keep your grades up. Many people might think, community college is easy and not important, but they are wrong. Community college is where you start to build your life, it's too important.
In three sentences Hcc is a perfect place for you. If you want to save money. Basically you can take all the basic and mandatory classes for the less amount of money in hcc. Categories Comments Campus Safety This depends on which branch you attend, but they're all pretty safe for the most part.
Clubs and Activities Again and again, I always tell people to look. Go out and search for whatever clubs or organizations that pique your interest.
Great for these types of students Newly-graduated highschool students who feel lost or unprepared for university life. Individuals who are looking to same money on basic classes. People who want to see what a taste of the real world is like.
Bang for the buck Amazing! For roughly $400 a class, it's a steal. The best way to maximize your money is to be active in pursuing your grades.
What to do for fun Socialize. Do it often. Reach out to classmates and you'll be surprised that they're wishing they could talk to you too. There's so much diversity in the classrooms and it would be a shame if you don't try and listen to the stories.
Food and Dining If you're attending Spring Branch, there's lots of places to eat nearby, including CityCentre across I-10 and Koreantown a couple of streets away.
Academic Rigor It's a lovely balance between high school and university. Yes, it's less rigorous than university academics, but you will completely fail if you passively sit through classes.
Tips for prospective students Forget what you've heard from other people or the stereotypes of a community college. HCC will show you more than you expected about the academic world and introduce you to real-world people. Make your own opinions - don't let other people's opinions distract you from enjoying your time there.
In three sentences Houston Community lives up to it's advertisement phrase: We keep Houston working. You'll meet all kinds of people here and it's always going to be in a small classroom setting, which makes things easier for you academically and socially.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I tend to believe this Katy campus is not in the best area but incidents have also taken place at other HCC campuses. Last fall a girl was almost abducted in the parking lot in which I parked my vehicle daily and another girl at the Spring Branch campus was truly abducted. There are many officers in the building and parked outside, but my wonder is if they are paying attention.
Clubs and Activities Did not participate.
Bang for the buck I, as I stated previously, was able to completely pay for my schooling here. Although, the prices were a large amount to anyone that glances, I did find them do-able, if a student were to save hard then the prices would be managable. Online courses are more expensive but towards the end I was taking 5 classes, 2 online and my price for the semester was 2500.
Food and Dining I found that HCC had a small deli and it was readily available which I found convenient but most of my dining was outside of school, areas surrounding the school such as Chipotle or Smoothie King. As far as inside dining, the deli did not have many options and the bookstore had quick snacks.
Dorm Life No on campus dorms
Academic Rigor Overall, I have had only two professors in my academic career at this college that I found were truly good professors. In my opinion, I look at this institute as a good way to get into the college way of life and finish up courses I need for my future. I wouldn't look at this college as a way to experience college but to merely get into the swing of things and how they differentiate with high school.
Tips for prospective students I would recommend that future students understand that this being an community college then it is somewhat a lower breed college both academically and for overall experience. I would not advise a future student of this college to expect much, this is a cheaper way to complete your basics and save up for school by staying home. Looking back, I am glad I took this route rather than jumping straight from home to a university because it allowed me to save up to where I accrued absolutely no student debt and was able to completely pay off my first two years of school.
In three sentences HCC is a place of easy transition for the average high school to college student phase. It accommodates a student well for the now college life and makes for an easy adjustment. For a student who is a homebody then this college is a good choice.

Academic Rigor It's difficult if you make it difficult. My syllabus was straight forward, so as long as you do it on time you'll be fine. Also it depends on the professor so don't hesitate to ask any students about a professor.
Tips for prospective students Women, be careful in the parking lots at night. I got at least 3 alerts through my phone about a robbery or a attempted abduction. Do your work and stay discipline. A lot of work is online, so get a computer and a internet connection.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There is always police officers watching over the campus in their little golf cart. They drive around the campus and making sure everything is how it should be, and also they are friendly as well.
Clubs and Activities There are plenty of clubs at Houston Community College. Clubs that you might recognize in high school like: Chess Club, History Club, Student Government, and Pop Culture Club. There are plenty of extracurricular activities to join at this college campus.
Great for these types of students If you are having money problems, if you are an older adult who is deciding to go back to college, if you are a furthering your degree; Houston Community College is for you. It is a place that if you are kind of nerves about going to a big campus or university this place accommodates you to make it feel somewhat like high school, but harder.
What to do for fun There isn't really anything to do for fun, unless you join clubs and do extracurricular activities. Meeting new people is always fun. I feel like it is just like high school where you have cliques, but more vast because everyone is open minded. There is always friends to be made.
Food and Dining Food isn't all that great unless you love hot pockets and canned soups. We don't have our own cafeteria and mcdonalds. Sadly, but true we do not.
Dorm Life We don't have dorms, so you can't really talk about it that much.
Academic Rigor The academic isn't has hard depending on what teacher you get. Don't always take easier courses because 'rate my professor' said they are easy graders. Take teachers who make your work, but is also fair when grading. Be wise on what teacher you take. Universities is much harder then community college, so better to prepare for it.
Tips for prospective students Future students and current students because this is a community college it does not give you reason to slack off and don't take it seriously. You have to focus because this isn't high school. College professors don't grill you to do you work. You have to motivate yourself.
In three sentences I would rate Houston Community College from a scale from one to ten to be an eight. The student life that occupies this college campus is outgoing and do the most with what they have. They make you feel welcomed and give out free stuff. Who doesn't love that?

Bang for the buck good size classes and instruction, with all the events they host for the students throughout the year i think it is a great investment to yourself.
What to do for fun Depending on the campus, there may or may not be much around so i would highly suggest an exploring and adventurous outlook.

Categories Comments What to do for fun City Central, Memorial City Mall, and Town & Country mall are located right next to the Spring Branch Campus.
Food and Dining Chilis and Murphy's Deli right next to the campus, not much else near unless you want to drive. City Central is located right across the campus which also has a larger selection of restaurants to choose from.
Dorm Life No Dorms, but it is a community college.
Academic Rigor Many people will bash HCCS for being a community college, but I personally find that it is a great school for those who haven't had the best academic background. Many of the teacher love to help you, and there aren't many classes that are completely computer based (which is better as you have an instructor teaching you directly)
Tips for prospective students If you need help getting back into school, or dont feel like you're at a college level, HCCS is a great choice to start with.
In three sentences Houston Community College, Spring Branch Campus, is a great place for those who didn't do so well in high school or returning to college after a long break. They have many pre-college classes with dedicated teachers to help you get back into the college mood. While it doesn't have the best looking campus, it is affordable.

Categories Comments Campus Safety It is very safe here because the police always stay in the campus. If there is something bad happens, they can solve it as quick as they can.
What to do for fun You come to this college is to study so do not do anything that border the others. However, you can do entertainment outside. Houston is a big city so it has many place for you to relax like massage, bowling, mall, etc.
Food and Dining They do not sell food here. All you need is to bring food with you if you study with a long time a day in the campus. They already have the microwave for students to heat their food and have a dinning room to sit and eat.
Dorm Life This college has no dorm for student to live so you need to find the place to live by your own. You can find it on website, newspaper, etc.
Academic Rigor Houston Community College has many major for you to choose. If you did not decide yet, you can go and meet the adviser to figure out your major and which class you should choose in future. By the way, you really need to choose the class early in order to get the campus near your home. If not, you have to go to the others to study which is far from your home.
Tips for prospective students For students who speak English, this is easy for you to be in agreement with other students. You can catch up with the lesson in the class. For foreign students, your biggest disadvantage is that it is hard for you to understand the lesson. By the way, all new students need to make friends with the others in college to help. Team-work is better than working alone. Your friends can determine your weakness point in study and help you to fix it.
In three sentences This is my first time to study in my major in the US. At the beginning, I feel very strange when I go to college but everybody here is so nice that makes me feel comfortable. Teachers here are also nice to show us step by step to understand the lesson and they do not let any students run behind the class.

Clubs and Activities Phi theta kappa, Students for Liberty, Basketball Club, NSCS, Student Government Association, etc. The options are plentiful if you're willing to look and contact your local school.
Great for these types of students If you're ready to drive, meet people from many different age groups and backgrounds, and study well, then you will love this college system.
Bang for the buck Best bang for your buck. You won't find a better value for community college considering how many of the courses are accredited for transfer.
What to do for fun The HCC library and bookstore has many options for you to choose from, as well as clubs and other volunteering options. The nightlife is always there considering you're in Houston.
Food and Dining There's not really any dining options besides vending machines and the junk food inside of the bookstore. Your options are better outside of campus.
Dorm Life There are no dorms.
Academic Rigor It varies on the program that you're going for. If you're a creative writing major, then the course load may not be so difficult. If you're planning to go into engineering or nursing, then it can get ramped up. Make sure you pick the best option for yourself.
Tips for prospective students Talk to your counselors, do not underestimate the course level/work, and make sure communication is clear all around.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I feel completely safe despite the fact that you are 5 minutes from downtown. Security is constantly riding around campus on their bikes and golf carts.
What to do for fun There's always events on the first floor of the main building. HCC is located in mid-town so you're a 5 minute drive away from downtown, Montrose and the museum district. My favorite thing to do is to hop on over and check out the museums when they're free on Thursdays, or to stop by Hermann Park for a nice outdoor oasis.
Food and Dining The French Cafe in the main building (central campus) has tons of food options, they even have a small vegetarian menu. They also serve Starbucks coffee!
Dorm Life No dorms.
Academic Rigor It is a community college, so don't expect university level work. However the professors do their best to ensure that the coursework is fair and challenging.
Tips for prospective students Enroll early because good classes fill up FAST. They're very strict on parking so make sure you have your parking pass visible or they will tow you.
In three sentences HCC has amazing class choices and awesome professors that genuinely care about the success of their students. For a community college, HCC is relatively organized and up to date. The technological options at HCC are very user friendly.

Categories Comments Campus Safety They have campus police inside and outside. Of course there is always that person who wants to mess someone's life by breaking a car's window, but the police officers are efficient and the security cameras are everywhere to record what is happening.
Greek Life Honors society is the only Greek life since its a community college.
Clubs and Activities Houston Community College is full of student organization and activities throughout each semester. Freebies, freebies freebies!
Great for these types of students Any type of student who lack financial support, who just graduated from High school and does not have $30,000 to pay off their first year of tuition. HCC provides a great amount of grants and scholarships for students who have a good academic achievement. If you are a Texas Resident, HCC is the place for you, international students who need financial aid, HCC is the place for you. Also, if you like good convenient schedules and NO FRIDAY CLASSES, then this is definitely a place for you!
Bang for the buck I would say that going to a community college to do all your required classes for your career for an affordable price, is the best thing any high school graduate, returning student, and even a new student can do. Also, while financial aid is a great deal here, paying $800-900 a semester for required classes, rather than $8000-9000 is a huge difference, so be smart about it! If you decide to transfer to any University, its the best thing you can do while obtaining your AA or AAS or AS since you will have credited college classes that will transfer over and you will save a lot of money. All the money you did not use in your first two years, you can now use it for your last two years in classes that focus on your specific BA or BS.
What to do for fun Depends on the campus.
Food and Dining It's good specially when you do not want to rush all the way to McDonald.
Dorm Life No Dorms.
Academic Rigor Great classes, very affordable. However, always be wise to choose the right professor and the right time.
Tips for prospective students -Always keep priorities on top of the list. -It's okay to ask for help, even if you have to ask different people the same question, they are there to help. -Try to get advise by two different people. It is always good to hear a second opinion. If they both agree then go ahead! -Fix your schedule according to your routine. If you are not a morning person do not choose a 8am class or you will for sure fail that class! (they do take attendance there and in some classes its part of your grade).
In three sentences Future can be complicated, mysterious, and even scary. However, Houston Community College is the place to learn, to find the key to your future, do not be scare of what can be yours!

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students who haven't decided they're majors, students seeking only an Associate level degree, students who can't afford to attend a 4-year university
Bang for the buck This is a very reasonably priced institution. It's a great way to start your education without burying yourself in student loans.
What to do for fun This may just be a community college but HCC has many extracurricular activities for students to involve themselves in. From cheerleading to football, there's a place for everyone to fit in.
Food and Dining They have a bookstore with really good snacks to grab in between your classes. Also, a microwave is available to heat up any food which needs to be warmed.
Dorm Life There are no dormitories on campus since this is only a 2-year community college.
Academic Rigor I would suggest really doing your research on professors before signing up for their class. www.RateMyProfessor.com is a great source!
Tips for prospective students Don't be shy! If you need help then SPEAK UP and let the teacher know. Also, don't slack off just because this isn't a four-year university. This is only a community college but be serious about your academic work so it's easier for you to succeed in the long run.
In three sentences Houston Community College is a great starting point for your career. Teachers here are generally very easy going. It's a small school but a HUGE stepping stone.
