    Campus Safety

i have never had any problems with safety on campus. there are security guards in each building that require you to show your id and check in to make sure only students enter the building. if you forget your id you have to sign in and go through a little process to make sure your identification matches with their database which makes the school all the more safe.

    Clubs and Activities

the school offers many clubs which you should be wise to take part in. they offer low cost trips to different areas and even sports events and musical theater!

Great for these types of students

hccc is great for any race of student as long as you are interested in studying you have the same aspirations as everyone else. we are all trying to start a new path in life.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

the campus is so diverse with cultures, they have many voluntary workshops to bring the community together and learn about different cultures.

    Bang for the buck

as long as you stay dedicated like any goal in life you will graduate and move on to a new career. hudson county community college offers a wide range of academics and has one of the best culinary arts programs around. they also have joint nursing programs with different colleges or certificate programs for students who cant attend college for as long as others.

    What to do for fun

i have not explored the area much other than where my classes are and the food journeys. it is city life so there are tons of buildings and companies surrounding the area. there are benches to relax and sit down outside with friends. the jersey city campus is right next to a bus station so you can hop on a bus and go to the malls or after school a different area for a sports event.

    Food and Dining

there isn't a cafeteria on campus. however since it is in the city there are many restauraunts, delis, and corner stores to choose from. there are many ethnicity of foods available making it like an exploration each day to seek out the food you want. it's like living in new york city.

    Dorm Life

there is no dorm life here is non exsistant. the education departments are of walking distance or public transportation is widely available.

    Academic Rigor

the school books are excellent and contain valuable information always being renewed. just like any college you should ask around for the right teachers. some of them are admirable and completely entrapped by their love for teaching making sure you understand everything, while others move quickly and make it known you will be doing most of the review on your own time. however the courses are always interesting and full of attainable knowledge.

    Tips for prospective students

attend all your classes, in high school it felt mandatory to be in school, college the teachers would prefer you show up but if you decide not to they wont chase after you. you can end up failing out of a class because you missed more than the approved amount of days.

    In three sentences

the school is now expanding and trying to make commuting easier for students. the labs they offer and technology are always current with advancements. they offer joint programs with different colleges to further education from one aspect.

    Bang for the buck

Saved me alot!!!!!! Didnt go to CIA or J&W but learn just as much or probably even more for like 3/4 of the price

    Am learning a lot

I am in the Culinary Program at Hudson. This was propably the best choice that i could have ever made. It is a small school with well trained chef that are still working in the buisness and teach. They really do care about the students getting better and wanting to become a great chef. It is a hidden culinary school that should be up there with CIA, ICE, and every other one. Most of the teachers come from those schools anyways. Yet the Culinary program is really just great!!!

    Food and Dining

Bending machines but a lot places to eat around.

    Dorm Life

    Academic Rigor

I would say academic rigor would depend of your major.

    What to do for fun

They usually have trips and play movies. they also usually have guest speakers like Common, Dr. Cornell West, America Farrera, Tavis Smiley, etc. so you don't miss out on much. It''s on you to take the initiative and get involved. There is always something to look at when you are going to school gentlemen.

    Food and Dining

If you like McDonald's and Crown's chicken this is the place for you.

    Dorm Life

    It's community college.

    Academic Rigor

It can get tough at times so make your schedule according to what you can do. Don't have six paper classes at once. If you are having trouble get a tutor and let the professor know that you have a tutor, they like and consider that when they are grading you.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't wait until the last minute as far as the offices. Like I said the lines are brutal. Always build a rapport with your professors because they like that. Take HCCC serious because it may seem like a cake walk but if you seem disinterested, the professors pick up on that. Hang in there because it actuallly goes by quiicker than what you think.

    In three sentences

I think HCCC is a great school for someone who isn't sure what direction they would like to take as far as school or life in general. The professors are great and the students and staff are cool as well.. Just don't wait until the last minute to apply because the lines are brutal.

    Campus Safety

Its save in the daylight, but be aware during the night, specially is you are using public transportation.

Great for these types of students

students who do not get any financial aid, its a great opportunity to save money, and for students who still need to grow and develop before attending a four year school.

    What to do for fun

Join clubs, attend events, and buy discounted tickets!

    Food and Dining

there are no dining places inside the campus, but its located in journal square, where you would find many place to eat outside the buildings

    Dorm Life

There is not dorms, this is a commuter college

    Academic Rigor

Finding excellent professors is a challenged, so ask around and check online at ratemyprofessor.com

    Tips for prospective students

I suggest you rent your books, those you wont need in the future, instead of buying and then selling them in the bookstore, although it tell you its non-profitable it will give you a very small amount of money for your books when they cost you about the triple of the amount of money they will be paying you.Go online and sign the renting agreement, specially if you don't own your own debit card, otherwise you would have to bring your parent to school to create a rental agreement, which is a hassle. I also suggest you check the professors at ratemyprofessor.com, because it can be a challenge to find good professors, especially for mathematics, there are many bad math teachers, that you will not learn anything from, so make sure you check who your teacher is. If you don't like your professor, drop the class immediately as you only have about a week to do so, and if you register too late for a class, be aware that it would count as absences, you are only allowed two absences, so make the money worth! There are many great professors in this school, but there are more bad ones, so make sure you find them. Once you can register online, take advantage of it, there is nothing better that choosing your own schedule and your own teachers. Take advantage of the events, and the clubs, you get discounted movie tickets and Broadway shows, as well as trips.

    In three sentences

    teachers, books, college life

    Campus Safety

It's security is responsive for emergencies and punctual with timing. I can't say that any security gaurd isn't well dressed either. They look presentable and are willing to help a student with questions with navigating around the campus

    Bang for the buck

Did I mention that HCCC tuition rates are low? For Hudson County residents, you'd pay roughly $100 per credit and are required to only pay 25% of the total due upon registering. Financial Aid is available and so are promotions for scholarships. It's definitely a bang for your buck!

    What to do for fun

There are many activity groups at HCCC. HCCC offers pool halls, bowling trips, student discounts, museum trips, open mic karaoke/ stand-up comedy, and more. There's plenty to do while you wait for your next class.

    Food and Dining

While there isn't a dining facility at HCCC, there are many fast food restuarants, diners, and restaurants within the area. Occassionally, the culinary art students would hold bake sales and food as well. The school does offer promotions for free food and could be checked on the school's website.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is non existent at HCCC. Currently, there is no housing available at this time.

    Academic Rigor

For the most part, the school's grading system is fair although it varies from class to class. Some professors can be strict while others can be lenient. This doesn't mean that HCCC is a walk in the park or a get by school. It's a challenge within itself, as with any institution. That's how it should be, it will prepare you for the next institution after you graduate.

    Tips for prospective students

HCCC has a lot to offer to new students. It's registration requirements are minimal but remember one important thing: aim for the best in your CLEP (College entrance exam) exam to avoid taking remedial classes. If you're coming from another institution, you can have up to 30 credits transferable to your new major as long as it meets HCCC's requirements. Whether you're fresh out of high school or starting college later in life, it's never to late to go to school. HCCC is great choice for affordable and flexiblity, since Journal Square is right next to the school, theres many routes to get to HCCC.

    In three sentences

Hudson County Commmunity College has a lot to offer for students who are interested in starting college. Clean facilities, state-of-the-art laboratories and computer labs, affordable tuition, and complete your general eduation courses within 2 years? That sounds like a deal for me!

The School it self is very safe security monitors cameras all over the building at all times but the location of the school is not one that would be considered the safest its not an area in which you should stroll after dark.

There are two Greek houses in association with the school both accepting male and female members there is a GPA requirement.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many clubs and activities available to the students and the school is very open minded and considerate of student who may wish to start there own cubs or organizations.

Great for these types of students

Culinary students due to the fact that the program is one of the shining starts of the school and very independent students who can track and be fully responsible for all aspects of there education.

    Bang for the buck

When it comes to this school you get what you pay for its moderately priced and that is the education you get for it. I will say though that the culinary program at the school is the exception there program is held at high regard.

    What to do for fun

There are various clubs and organizations that the students can join and participate in and the student¢s affairs department is always working on new ways to keep students entertained.

    Food and Dining

The campus is located in an area that caters to the needs of the students there are many places to dine ranging in prices that can fit almost any budget.

    Dorm Life

    There is no dorm life

    Academic Rigor

It is my belief that the academic level in the class is below the average.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are going to attend Hudson County then have an academic plan and stick to it. Many people waste years at the school because they rely on the administration for class registration. Always keep a hard copy of any document you may need as it is a habit in the school for paper work to be misplaced.

    In three sentences

The professor's range from genuinely insightful educators to people that should not be teaching. The administrative staff and councilors are there to do what they can, but it is critical that you have a full understanding of what your program entails or you may end up taking unnecessary classes on a regular basis. Over all it is a low cost option but not a college to brag about.

    Campus Safety

the campus safety is a place where sometime, you forget that there is safety on campus. sometime you will find guards sleeping in the job as well as guards thinking it is a game to play with the students. most of time, the guard would make me feel like that they are not doing their job because they want to pick on the students and tease them. there are guards that thinks that their job is something that is not too serious because they don't want to do anything in the campus while the student needs their help. sometime, i believe that the guards would help the students with any issue that they have but most of the time, there is somewhat safety in the campus

    Greek Life

the Greek life is good. the life of Greek is fun because i know that i am learning more about the education and the tools to learn more of any type of homework, writing skills, knowing that i can achieve anything in life and knowing that i have an education to worry as well as knowing that it is important to take care for me

    Clubs and Activities

the club and activities are good so far with the school. within this year alone, there are not too many club and there few activities that i know of that the students would come over and have fun with and enjoy. there are some clubs that now students would not sign in for and not even try to like the club

    What to do for fun

there is nothing to do for fun but to study, join some clubs and have a day off from school to relax.

    Food and Dining

the food and dining is not too good because there is no place for the students to get comfortable food and dine out. the teachers would the students 5 to 15 minutes and that is not enough for the students to get their food. sometime when the student is given the break from class, they won't come because the teacher is not giving respect and space to breathe. the food and dining is not good the students

the prospective student that is ready for this school should be happy but ready to come into class and making sure that they are not in school for the fun. it is not high school and it is not the time for students who are coming out from high school to start thinking that college is the same thing to high school. there is not bells, no lockers, no parents waking them to get ready for school and no patience to fun. student should know that school is a place to for education and something you can achieve in life and know that you are here in school of college you are getting your associate degree

It's safe b/c there are security guards everywhere in the college, and theyr'e very helpful too if you're lost, and need help finding which building to go to class, pay bills, etc.

    Clubs and Activities

They have a few clubs and activities to do, but I don't care for them to be hones since I'm there to get a degree, nothing more than that.

Great for these types of students

The students in the school are pretty nice, and the teachers are good at what they do overall, so if you like that, you should try out this schoo. I also like how flexible the class schedules are, which makes things much easier for me in the long run (and for anybody who likes a flexible schudule too). Also, the buildings aren't that far away from each other, so I get to class on time everyday (good for students who never want to be late when going to class).

    Bang for the buck

I do believe that the books are overpriced, including the used ones, but that's not a big deal. Also, they could make payment for classes cheaper b/c it's expensive. For example, I'm just doing one class in Winter Session now, but it costs over $500 just for that class (which to me is too much). Besides that though, I like the college so far.

    What to do for fun

You can join a few clubs if you like at the college, but the best thing to do is make friends, and hangout with them sometimes.

    Food and Dining

There are several different places you can go to eat.

    Dorm Life

There is no dorm at all.

    Academic Rigor

It's good overall, but not the best.

    Tips for prospective students

I do believe that the books are overpriced, including the used ones, so make sure to check on other websites for better prices.

Security is in every building 24/7 they are very kind and listen if there is any problem however, the area is quite safe.

Great for these types of students

Great for laid back students who do not like the stressful college life but also want to get a proper education it is not a party school but meeting people is easy and simple and someone always has an event going on for those who want to strictly study can also do that in the library, tutoring centers and student lounges as well as the welcome centers for to study and relax.

    Food and Dining

Since the campus is between a busy area with bus terminals and trains the there is a lot of places to eat you can hop on the train and in 10 to 15 mins you are in nyc where you can dine and eat all kinds of foods you desire, campus also holds many pizzerias, fast food resturants and small spanish take outs and chinese take outs it is a very multi cultural and diverse place

    Dorm Life

Since it is a community college they do not offer dorms however the area the college is in is very loud and city like, it is in jersey city which touches the borderline to the big apple (NYC) the path trains and bus terminals are all on the square within the campus therefore transportation is no problem and there are many apartments and houses that can be found easily for housing the commute is not bad at all.

    Academic Rigor

The academic performance of this school is not outstanding but is it good enough for it's students to take simple courses and go onto a better university to save time and begin their major courses right away without any problems regarding any prerequisites as long as the courses match up to a minimum you are good to go.

    Tips for prospective students

Honestly, the best decision an average college student can make is going to a community college for two years and achieving an associates degree, then you can apply to any university and enroll in as a junior and earn a bachelors degree, instead of starting from scratch usually students fall under debt with student loans the first year of college but this this deal you can take the first two years to save up money for strong back up.

    In three sentences

Hudson County Community College is a wonderful place to pursue one's education for half the amount of money a state university charges. Despite being a simple community college there education system is reasonable and is a simple way to get through with your basic classes (i.e. English courses, Math courses, Electives etc.) The best part is they have a wonderful honor programs and honor courses that are exciting and keep the students attention and interest alive to want to go to class every week, also the professors are supportive and answer any questions needed you can contact them whenever needed and speak to them one on one it's a great start.
