Great for these types of students

ISU is a great university for hardworking, dedicated students who enjoy extracurricular activities! The size of the campus is perfect for those who need a more direct relationship with their professors, but require a wide range of courses.

    Tips for prospective students

I would advise prospective students to truly take advantage of all hte activities at Indiana State. There were always great Freshman mixers and volunteer activities which really helped me in adjusting to life on campus. I would also suggest meeting your new roommate before moving in together. This way, you have time to get to know the other person before the semester starts. I also suggest holding a job on campus. This really encouraged me to balance my time wisely, and also helped me get to know the ISU campus and staff.

    Bang for the buck

As a younger sister to a fellow Sycamore, it was important to me to find a great school at an affordable cost. ISU is definitely the college I needed. Whether a student is enrolled in 12 or 18 credit hours, the cost does not increase. The room board is affordable, in addition to extra costs such as the library, laboratory fees, and the new recreation center. The college is also great at rewarding strong students with scholarships such as the Lap Top Scholarship, awarded to entering Freshman with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

    Am enjoying being here

I love my time at Indiana State University! I have met several people who have developed into incredible friends. I can rely on them for not only study help, but any other issues we encounter during our first semesters at ISU. In addition to the friends I have met, there is always something to do! Whether it is working out at Le Club, studying in the library, or watching the Sycamores at a sporting event, a student can always stay busy and be actively involved with the campus around them.

    Am learning a lot

Within just my first year at ISU, I gained the skills I need to succeed. My professors, teacher assistants, college advisor and employer have provided my with the knowledge required inside and out of the classroom. The teaching staff was extremely understanding and patient, in addition to always willing to help. Through all the academic assitance, I was able to earn my spot on the college's Dean List with a 3.9 GPA!

Great for these types of students

This is a great school for people from small towns. The city is large enough to give you a lot of options for entertainment and small enough to make you feel comfortable.

    Tips for prospective students

Meet your roommate before you move in. It is easier to change before you move in than after. Make sure of your career objective if your not sure take a general education and take 1 class a semester of something that you may want to study. You may discover something your naturally good at and a new career.

    Bang for the buck

Since the fees are the same for 12credit hours up to 18 credit hours you can set your course load to your ability not to your pocket book. The room and board fees are comparable to any in the area and you can use the credits for your meals at the student union at places like Taco Bell when you miss lunch or dinner because of your schedule.

    Am enjoying being here

My first semester was kind of bad but with the help of new friends I really have enjoyed being here. I helped to create something new to the campus to help keep the students out of the alcohol scene. We created the late night challenge. We took different things and pitted a representative from each floor against each other. One was a hot dog eating challenge after the famous Nathans challenge. It started out small but at the end of the year we had backing from the student organization for pizza and soft drinks for everyone attending and to purchase the supplies for the challenges. This helped to break the newness of being away from home for a lot of the freshmen attending. I am really looking forward to my next year here at Indiana State to tackle new challenges.

    Am learning a lot

I started last year with the intentions of being a physical therapists and was really looking forward to the challenges. Unfortunately being away from home for the first time and the hard class schedule put me behind fairly quickly. As a freshman you are given course classes instead of gen ed classes because they only have a certain amount of space for the classes later on and this is their way of weeding out the students who have chosen the wrong career. After the first semester I can honestly say that I have learned a lot since being here you are responsible for your choices and in the real world you can't rely on your parents or anyone else to help you out.

Great for these types of students

I feel Indiana State is for students who are ready to make their lives better and want to be very successful. They give you alot of hands on training and opportunities to experiment with whatever your major is.

    Tips for prospective students

In order to be successful at Indiana State you should be willing to do the work and be determined to reach your goals.

    Bang for the buck

Indiana State University is a good college with reasonable tuition. But I strongly suggest that ahead of time or start now, that you apply for as many scholarships as you can. My mom pays my tuition out of her own pocket but I know that it's not easy for her. Besides the tuition the meal plan with commons cash/ credits are very useful. I suggest that you get very familiar and understand the difference between commons cash and credits because if you don't understand them, you will run out of them quick, trust me I know.

    Am enjoying being here

My time here has been fun. There are so many activities and events to go to that once you get settled in, you will rarely if ever be home sick. The only problem that I've had while being on campus is my roommate. I would honestly either have roomed with someone I knew or had a single room. But besides the roommate situation, I love Indiana State, this was the perfect college for me

    Am learning a lot

Being at Indiana State has taught me alot. Its taught me how to be around people that are like me all the time, and taught me how to use my time wisely when it comes time for preparing for tests and quizzes. Indiana State has so many activities and events for any and everyone. I've never been judgemental but being at this school really helps you want to get to know people who are like you and some who aren't like you.

Great for these types of students

ISU has great programs for Nursing, Education, and Business. Those are some of the larger programs, but there are a lot of other majors besides these categories. I chose ISU for the fact that it was one of two schools that has the major I am interested in. It is also great for completing general education credits and for those students who cannot afford private universities.

    Tips for prospective students

First, I would make sure that ISU has your major, and back up major. A lot of students change their minds throughout the years, so it's important that you have a fallback within the same university; that way you won't have to worry about transferring. I would also look at cost and distance. Visit before making any decisions.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition is more affordable here than many schools because it is a public, state school. Some things are lost, such as a small class size and very personalized attention that comes with small, private schools, but you still get a lot out of ISU. You will definitely get a great education here.

    Am enjoying being here

I really enjoy living on campus. I live in the Honors dorm, which has 24 hour quiet hours, so it is really easy to study and sleep, which are both important. There are a lot of activities going on both on and off campus during the week and on the weekend. Classes are close, and you can reach almost all of them within 10 minutes. The food is pretty good, although there are only three places to eat on campus; two cafeterias and one food court.

    Am learning a lot

Depending on which classes you take, they can be easy or challenging. It depends a lot on how much work you put into it. For myself, I am taking 15 credit hours, which is just the right amount. I have learned a lot through my classes this semester.

    Clubs and Activities

    afrotc

Great for these types of students

students who work hard. students who attend classes and do the work. those who work hard for expected grades. not much on partying, so can't tell you much on that.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

team tricycle race in the fall. afrotc is a great program and gets you emersed into another group of people and lifestyle. it's a good challenge.

    Bang for the buck

plenty of clubs, organizations and activities to get involved with. campus transportation provided to local stores, etc.

    What to do for fun

lots to do on campus. all kinds of games for the university to attend. all kinds of organizations to join. great buildings for students to access for exercise and fun with friends.

    Food and Dining

lots of local food places near campus or within a short drive for those with a car. on campus dining halls for on campus residents.

    Dorm Life

share a dorm room. of course a roommate is a big adjustment. rooms aren't huge, but okay. helps to make the best of whom you are selected to room with, if it doesn't work out in the beginning keep trying it may turn out to be okay and liveable.

    Academic Rigor

i personally carry a full load plus, so i keep really busy with classes and assignments. i also work everyday, which makes it essential that i budget my time well. i am also involved in an extracurricular activity that requires a substantial amount of my time, so i have to be and extra hard worker.

    Tips for prospective students

    Campus Safety

There are on campus police officers, ISU's campus is very safe.

    Greek Life

I do not participate in a sorority.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many opportunities to join various organizations and groups at ISU. I currently do not have the free time to join any of them, but always see offers and applications for student organizations and clubs.

Great for these types of students

Students who welcome diversity would definitely be comfortable. There are many international transfer students and dozens of different cultural centers on campus.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

ISU has one strange tradition that used to make national headlines in the 1980s and 1990s. At the end of homecoming week, there is a parade, but there is also a walk from ISU's campus to the East ISU football stadium for the homecoming game. Locals and students over the age of 21 start on 5th and Wabash Avenue and stop at every bar and have a drink, all the way up to Brown Avenue and Wabash Avenue where the football stadium is. That's about a 2 mile walk with around 20 bars along the way. Let's just say a lot of people don't make it to the game who do that walk each year. It is one of the strangest things I've seen. I've never participated but have worked at bars when it was going on, it's madness.

    Bang for the buck

It's more expensive than a junior college, such as Ivy Tech, but less expensive than several other universities in Indiana (IUPUI, Ball State, etc. cost much more and the local economy is more expensive in those areas).

    What to do for fun

Again, I would suggest exploring off-campus for coffee houses, parks, museums, art galleries--Terre Haute have several of all of those things. There are lots of on-campus activities, of course. There are bi-weekly open mic nights, community events such as the Special Olympics, Tricycle Races, and the Student Recreation Center is very modernized and has good equipment.

    Food and Dining

There are dozens of coffee shops and restaurants in different academic buildings all across ISU's campus. They carry good fresh foods and the coffee is good at most places. Prices are about average.

    Dorm Life

I have never lived on campus but have friends who do and they love it.

    Academic Rigor

ISU offers good degree programs, and some of the upper level classes can be difficult to take but there are many forms of help such as tutors, writing centers, chemistry and physics help centers, math tutors. And they are free services as well.

    Tips for prospective students

Explore beyond campus, things are much cheaper at certain stores rather than relying on the places within a couple of blocks from campus. Also, search for textbooks online, it will save tons of money if you consistently find used and cheap texts to rent/buy.

    In three sentences

ISU has a large campus, with a lot of degree programs available. Most of the buildings are recently built and they have coffee shops all through campus with food and drinks. ISU is in a smaller city, Terre Haute, with a fairly low crime rate.

    Campus Safety

Last year there was a shooting and again this year there was a shooting along with an abduction all within the first month or two of classes starting.

    Greek Life

    Snobby and stuck up

Great for these types of students

If you don't really care if your degree holds weight or if you don't care if you learn everything you may need to know for your major.

    Bang for the buck

You get what you pay for; not very good professors, crap food, unpleasant housing, uncooperative financial aid and staff.

    Food and Dining

The food is really gross and they serve pretty much the same 5 things all year round.

    Dorm Life

People aren't very nice or helpful. I live in the Lincoln Quads and have only met my roommates a handful of times.

    Academic Rigor

I've been here for two years now and I've been bored almost the entire time. Classes are ridiculous most you don't even have to go to pass.

    Tips for prospective students

Find a better school. You really do get what you pay for it's cheap because it's not a good school.

    In three sentences

I hate ISU and it isn't all that great unless you just want to scoot on through college. Most of the professors were taught to teach at ISU and it shows. Go someplace where the professors know what they are talking about and know how to actually teach.

Great for these types of students

Driven, focused individuals who are computer literate and competitive in their focus towards their degree. As far as campus students, ISU offers a wonderful college experience and the learner will be immersed in an international culture with the added benefit from learning from their fellow peers as well.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are going to do online classes, you will need to have the drive to do your classwork everyday and participate in the online discussions. If you are the procrastinator type, online courses are probably not for you. It takes a lot of dedication and time to do these courses on the internet.

    Bang for the buck

This education has been worth every penny we have spent. I feel like when I graduate, I will be fully prepared to start working in a hospital with confidence in what I am doing.

    Am enjoying being here

I don't live on campus being an online student, but I enjoy being a part of a larger community of students who are going through the same experiences I am.

    Am learning a lot

My teachers have been wonderful examples to me-being an online student is very challenging, but with the help of my teachers and their great response time, they have made the online nursing classes a joy.

Great for these types of students

Indiana State University is great for every type of student. If there isn't a club or sport or class available for you. ISU will help you start it yourself. Nothing is impossible here as long as you are willing to work hard for it. For the students who are hard workers, the honors program is available and simple. ISU is incredible.

    Tips for prospective students

Talk to people. If there is one thing I learned, it is that to know anything, you need to find people to be there for you and that you would do anything for. You also need to talk to faculty and staff. I have met so many people, and I am sure to introduce myself to everyone. If I had not, I would not be able to have accomplished half of what I already have. Even the people in the dining halls and the janitorial staff are fun to know. I talk to them every day, and we cheer each other up. There is never a lack of people to talk to when I feel a little homesick.

    Bang for the buck

This next year is exciting for me because Indiana State University is giving me the opportunity to spend five months in Florida working and studying at Walt Disney World. This is only one of so many opportunities that ISU provides. It's motto is More. From day one. and it is true. They offer so much for every student at the college, and they get you involved as soon as you begin your studies. With my new best friend that I met at ISU, I will be interning with Disney and discovering something that I have always wanted to do, but I never thought I would be able to do.

    Am enjoying being here

Indiana State provided so many opportunities to know the students and professors in just the first few days that I have already surrounded myself with people from all over the world, and I have grown close with them all. It is like the campus is it's own little island because the environment changes for the better as soon as you step foot on campus. The people, the atmosphere, and the activities are better than I imagined.

    Am learning a lot

I have two majors and one minor, but ISU is allowing me to receive my Bachelor's degree in two years. The professors and advisors have been helpful, and I am able to keep up with all my work only by their understanding and supportive attitudes. I could not see myself going anywhere else. Also, I am able to study creative writing as a minor at ISU in a simple and effective way.

Great for these types of students

Indiana State is great for anyone. It has ample degrees and majors to choose from and even allows you to create your own major if it does not have exactly what you want. It has the most diverse campus population among all colleges in the state of Indiana to meet people for all walks of life. It is also home to about 12,000 students to be a good size campus while still being a Division I school as well.

    Tips for prospective students

Come to college with an open mind and be prepared for anything. It is a time for you to find new friends and develop lasting relationships. Go out and meet people, and be active with other members of your college. College is a very diverse place and it is a time for you to expand your experiences, and dive into new and different opportunities.

    Bang for the buck

Indiana State is definitely the cheapest state school and many people do not consider it a very good school, but as long as you apply yourself and try to be apart of clubs or other activities, Indiana State is just as good as any other school. There are many scholarships to apply for and financial aid is willing to work with you to help you save as much money as possible. The student to teacher ratio is also excellent to allow ample time for one on one work.

    Am enjoying being here

I love being here at school so much. I worried about whether or not I would fit in or if I would find any friends here, but I immediately knew that this is where I was meant to be. I also became best friends with my roommate who I picked at random along with the two girls next door and I plan on being friends with them for the rest of my life. I am on the track team and I have clicked really well with the other people on the team, especially the other freshmen within my specific event. I can't imagine being at any other college right now and having as much fun as I am right now.

    Am learning a lot

I have just completed my first semester of college here at Indiana State and I have gained a lot of knowledge in and out of the classroom. I had two large lecture classes and one teacher learned the names of everyone in the class and was always willing to help. She even sat down with me to plan out my next semester and I plan on going back to her if I ever have any questions about more of my classes. The rest of my classes were small and the teacher was always willing to work with you to ensure you understood what you were doing and emailed you back right away if you had questions. I am very satisfied that I will receive an excellent education here.

Great for these types of students

ISU is a great school for students willing to work. ISU has great educational programs for all majors. The quality of your college experience is all dependent upon you at ISU. If you want to have a world of capabilities in front of you and you are going to college with the mindset that this is my future then ISU is for you.

    Tips for prospective students

I have a few things to say on this subject. Number one being that as a college student the common view of college is one like is portrayed on TV and movies. This is not college. If u expect college like is portrayed on American Pie or movies like that; one of two things will happen. You will hopefully have a rude awakening and get back on track, or you will live this way for your first semester of college after which you no longer be a college student. I'm not saying this to scare anyone; I'm saying it so what happened to two of my friends doesn't happen to you. The other point I want to make is the importance of hard work and work ethic. College takes alot of time outside the classroom to be successful. Come to school prepared and do your best. Keep in mind that college can determine the rest of your life.

    Bang for the buck

In my opinion ISU provides the most Bang for the buck in the state. ISU has a laptop scholarship available to incoming freshman with a GPA of 3.0 or better which greatly helps with the cost of college. ISU was rated one of the best universities in the Midwest by The Princeton Review. Compared to the price range of many other schools ISU is cheap. The small class sizes many students love often come with a steep private school price, but not at ISU. I have been to Purdue, Ball State, IU, Trine, Anderson, IPFW, and Harrison university and ISU was the best school I visited.

    Am enjoying being here

The freedom of college is great, but what's more important is the responsibility of college. It feels absolutely incredible to wake up everyday and know that your future is in your hands. Alot of kids come to college with the intent to just party and have a good time and that's fine and at ISU there is always a place to do those things, but students must remember to put the academics first. As long as you don't lose sight of the reason you are at college it is physically impossible to not have a good time at ISU. Between extra-curricular weekend events, the rec center, and student groups and events there is always fun to be had at ISU.

    Am learning a lot

Indiana State University is great! I am in the second semester of my freshman year and I cannot even express how much knowledge there is to gain here. The staff here at ISU is so unbelievably experienced with what they are teaching. Like anything good in life, as long as you as a student are willing to do the work; ISU will work for you. The teachers at ISU are not like many high school teachers are. At ISU the teachers care how you are doing, not to say that they will baby sit you. The teachers care as much as you do. If a student needs help at ISU all teachers have office hours available as well as study groups and teaching assistants that are a great source of knowledge. My biggest class thus far has been 40 students and these small class sizes make it nice because the teacher can spend more time with each student. Students also don't have to wait their turn for half an hour to ask a question which is a big plus. ISU's size and staff make it a perfect educational environment.

Great for these types of students

Students who love to interact with their professors, like to have a somewhat small campus, and has lots of school spirit!!!

    Tips for prospective students

Go there, take a tour, and enjoy yourself! You will always meet people who are like you, you'll always have something to do, and the campus is just great! Not to big, not to small!

    Bang for the buck

The tuition isn't too bad for me being out of state. They gave me a scholarship just for living in Illinois and having good grades. They lowered my tuition to what I would pay if I stayed in IL. Living on campus is kind of expensive, but it's worth it, and what college isn't expensive for living there?

    Am enjoying being here

I love ISU! I love living on campus and being with all my friends! The atmosphere is amazing! And the campus is B-E-A-U-tiful!! There's always something to do! Like going to the new Rec Center that has a pool, hot tub, gym, and much more!

    Am learning a lot

The classroom size at ISU is about 20-25 students. Some of the required classes are bigger, but your major classes are small sizes. The professors here want you to succeed, not just to listen to them and pass their class.

Great for these types of students

ISU is great for students who like to interact or just be alone. Students who like to interact would love being here. The facility itself is great for those whom like to site-see.

    Tips for prospective students

Coming to ISU is a wake-up call. You should began focused and end focused. If you in need of help, do not hesitate to use all of the help stations located on campus. GOOD LUCK

    Bang for the buck

As they say, You get what you pay for. The cost is acceptable for those whom can afford to put in time for scholarships and more. The environment, learning, and activities are the best.

    Am enjoying being here

From the on-campus social events to staying in the dorms, ISU has so much to offer. The Ra's conduct activities every week to ensure that there is always something to do. The socials are very nice, the activities are extravagant, the classes are interesting, and I have met awesome people.

    Am learning a lot

ISU has began to prepare me for the real world. My professors and advisor are of much help when it comes to my academic success. Attending ISU has definitely help me obtain even more knowledge about my major.

    Campus Safety

public safety is a big concern here and is made very clear to not mess around! isupd is on campus 24/7 and has call towers located throughout campus, they have a shuttle for singles when parking at night and a call center as well. the rave tests are a good way the campus can get massive alerts out to everyone via text and email.

    Greek Life

the greek life is very mellow on this campus having not a single building on school grounds keeping this a fairly calm place to be. there are options available but aren't the biggest ive seen by far.

    Clubs and Activities

every school and department will have their own clubs and features for certain events and professions. if your not busy enough with your work and the campus in general then you can easily start to give back to the community by joining any one of the hundreds of activities or club events happening.

Great for these types of students

i would have to push the technology students because of the teachers and shear quality of the instructors within the college of technology. cot also houses a wide variety of majors and has very friendly staff, education majors and sciences to arts and applied forms are strategic and very gratifying to go through. anyone and everyone!!!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

larry bird played basketball here and we take it very seriously, its either that or the fact that our football stadium as well as the baseball field are in two separate sides of town and are almost impossible to walk to in a decent amount of time. basketball is our tradition and sycamore sam is the mascot, makes no sense but hey it is what it is. most interesting fact i know is about the underground tunnels leading all over and connecting all of the city, tracking back to the mafia and al capone these are some traits and facts about the campus you will learn if you apply.

    Bang for the buck

for what i have heard from a lot of my high school friends as well as my sister who attended a southern indiana school i am getting off pretty easy here for what i will end up taking away from the university. it has a respectable name and quality of work is assured for a very reasonable price. although i have to add that every year the tuition price keeps going up and up and up!

    What to do for fun

there are countless activities you could be doing here, it's just up to the person on what they feel is satisfying. the town has two walmarts in it so that will tell you the size and stores and what not to do around town but this is all about isu, so i would go to the rec center. this facility is brand new and awesome, supporting an indoor track, gym, bball courts and indoor soccer field! you can also get involved around the campus in any sort of programs from school to school departments to departments.

    Food and Dining

personally i couldn't ask for a better on campus food and dinning situation. the campus is fairly small and has multiple food courts and places to go to eat, spending cash, card or credits. from pizza to convenient mart, isu has this section under control.

    Dorm Life

you don't have much of an option here, the plus side to the dorm life at indiana state is that freshman can drive a vehicle on and off campus. there is limited parking and the dorms are mostly old with a lot of people in close quarters. an essential to learn about campus and is very easy to walk from class to your room within 5 minutes. living in the dorms would be a nice first year experience and then try a house for much cheaper! some majors are granted certain newer dorms that have air conditioning and individual bathrooms, others do not.

    Academic Rigor

academically this university holds its own with some of your top campus's in quality and not finances. although some programs here do indeed lack some major needed funding, what school doesn't? plus the amount of people here whom are qualified to the highest extent exceed my expectations by far. creating a great cultural environment for learning and self-growth while providing an excellent source of teachers whom engage in hands on.

    Tips for prospective students

make sure to become familiar to your new surroundings, we have the internet now and can be a world of help when it comes to knowing where to be and the people, places and things around you during the experience. don't forget to check in with financial aid, and do your best to find help whenever you can get it, in other words don;t be lazy and be proactive!

    In three sentences

more from day one if you want it to be more from the day you move in. small but nice campus that has a fresh atmoshpere while still able to give great student to teacher figures. it has a big feel school with the small town attributes, couldn't ask for much better if you live in indiana.

    Campus Safety

I always feel safe on campus. There are emergency poles located all over campus in case anything would happen. Walking back late at night from another dorm or the library feels very safe to me, and I have never had a problem with it.

    Greek Life

I am a member of Alpha Chi Omega, and I love it. Our school is only about 11% Greek, but it feels like a lot more. I have made so many lifelong friends through the Greek system, and I wouldn't change it for the world. Greek life has a lot of stereotypes, but I think that at ISU, we don't fall under those specific stereotypes.

    Clubs and Activities

There are hundreds of campus activities and organizations, from the radio station to the student nursing association. If you are looking to get involved, there is a club for you!

Great for these types of students

All kinds of students would enjoy Indiana State University. There is something for everyone at this school.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

For those that are over 21, there is something Homecoming week called The Walk where you and your friends walk from campus to the Sycamore football stadium, stopping at each bar along the way for a drink. There are also many other things ISU does, such as Spring Week activities and other Homecoming week activities.

    Bang for the buck

Indiana State is a great value for your money. With your meal plan and room, it would cost a lot more for someone to live off campus. I feel that I am paying a fair price for what I get out of it.

    What to do for fun

There are a variety of fun things to do on and off campus. Each day there is bound to be something on campus to do, such as a speaker or open mic night. There is a big fountain in the middle of campus where people go to hang out and play frisbee when the weather is nice. Off campus, there are many restaurants and a mall nearby.

    Food and Dining

The food in the dining hall is all-you-can-eat with a variety of choices each day. In addition to the two dining halls on campus, there is also the commons area, which has a Burger King, Taco Bell, Einstein Bros Bagels, Sub Connection, KFC, and George's Cafe. Usually, your meal plan credits and commons cash go a long way.

    Dorm Life

Dorms are dorms. I currently live in the standard freshman towers, and they really are not that bad. The only thing I would change would be to add air conditioning. But, there are also nicer dorms on campus, and also some with alternative, apartment-style living.

    Academic Rigor

Academic rigor all depends on the individual student and the program they are registered in, as well as their classes. For me, I am in the nursing program, where there are very difficult classes. What is difficult to me may not be difficult for someone else.

    Tips for prospective students

If I had to give tips for prospective students, I would say to get involved. I waited until my second semester to get involved with Greek life and the campus radio station. I wish I had done more with my first semester because it is a great way to meet people that share the same common interests and values.

    In three sentences

Indiana State is an institution that focuses on the individual student as well as the community as a whole. Campus is the perfect size; there are many people you don't know and many people that you do. ISU really feels like one big family.

    Campus Safety

No need to fear walking home in the middle of the night. ISU's campus is completely lit up at night, and with Public Safety located in the heart of campus, an escort is always nearby. Public Safety also has an almost immediate response time to emergencies across campus and beyond! Don't have a phone? There are numerous Public Safety posts outfitted with cameras around campus, making help only a button push away!

    Clubs and Activities

Whether you were the do-it-all student in high school or the keep-to-yourself-er, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved on campus. As a freshman student, the new online MapWorks survey will help to connect you to the clubs and activities that you're likely to enjoy by identifying your likes and interests, making the transition to college life an easy one that you can enjoy!

Great for these types of students

As a university, ISU is the universal school. Regardless of your talents, career choices, background, or affiliation, there's a place here for you. ISU welcomes international students from all over the world, and with the many clubs and organizations offered on campus, you are sure to find a warm welcome!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

ISU is an institution founded on tradition. During Homecoming there is an annual parade in which alumni and students express their Sycamore pride. Students can also participate in the annual Trike and Tandem races, a relay race between various groups and clubs across campus. Don't be afraid to get involved as a freshman either! Students become a part of the tradition From Day One!

    Bang for the buck

Much smaller than IU (and less expensive, too!), ISU offers more individualized attention with smaller class sizes and more professor-to-student face time.

    What to do for fun

Terre Haute is a growing college city that offers numerous restaurants, shopping, and entertainment venues. Visit Honey Creek mall for your shopping needs or make the 1-hour drive to Indianapolis for more shopping options. For night life, there are several college bars in town, numerous Greek life events/parties, two movie theaters, bowling, and city-based festivals that go on year round. Or stay on campus and enjoy sporting events, intramural sports, engaging floor programs and parties!

    Food and Dining

With two large cafeteria-style dining halls and the ever-improving Commons area, ISU offers a wonderful array of home-away-from-home meals. With an eclectic menu, students can enjoy traditional American foods or expand their horizons and experiment with the varying international options offered on weekly menus. See what's being offered this week online too!

    Dorm Life

As a staff member with Residential Life, I experienced first-hand how dorm life shaped the college experience. In college, learning not only happens in the classroom, but also in the dormitories. Students learn about life skills, relationships, conflict resolution, time management, and responsibility by living on campus, and Residential Life at ISU helps to make this happen with their highly trained an qualified team of staff members.

    Academic Rigor

Professors show their respect to students by remaining challenging and current in today's ever-expanding information age. They maintain a high level of expectation but provide students with the resources and opportunities necessary to achieve success.

    Tips for prospective students

As an incoming student, be sure to take full advantage of the many programs, clubs, sports, and activities that are available from ISU -- particularly those offered in the first few weeks! These experiences will help shape the rest of your college career and curb any reservations you might feel about leaving home for college.

    In three sentences

No matter what department, college, or office you find yourself visiting at Indiana State University, there is a warm, Indiana smile to greet you and a helpful hand to guide you to greatness. With an excellent teacher education program and career center, caring professors, and a student-oriented/individualized learning environment, the experience at Indiana State cannot be paralleled. At the end of your college career, you will find yourself looking back nostalgically at your experience at ISU, holding on to the life-long relationships you will have established while being propelled into a successful future, regardless of your career.

There are emergency phones all over campus and the campus is pretty small. There are ISU police patrolling 24/7. The dorms are pretty secure with someone at the desks downstairs all the time and need a key to get into the stairs and elevators.

    Greek Life

Very active. Some sororities and fraternities are stereotypical and others are very respectable. Choose carefully and go through rush.

    Clubs and Activities

    Many, as mentioned before.

Great for these types of students

    Self-motivated, independent.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The Walk. It is for the homecoming and basically it's just a long walk down Wabash Ave. to the stadium where you can get drunk in public and not be arrested.

    Bang for the buck

The tuition is cheap (though it raises every year), but they over-charge for everything else.

    What to do for fun

There are lots of clubs and sports to do. You can join the newspaper or volunteer. There are speakers that come often and many plays. There is also an active Greek life. There are no shortage of things to do at ISU

    Food and Dining

I never ate the cafeteria food, but in the Union there is a SubConnection, a Pizza Hut, a Taco Bell, Mein Bowl (Chinese food), Edy's Ice Cream, Burger King, and a school restaurant. There is a Campus Cupboard, which is essentially a convenience store with higher quality food. There are also coffee shops with snacks throughout campus.

    Dorm Life

I did not live in the dorms.

    Academic Rigor

You can work hard here, but you can also get a degree with barely any effort.

    Tips for prospective students

    - Don't buy a parking pass. Park on the nearby streets. - Be persistent. Some teachers/staff are uncooperative, terse, and don't know what they're talking about. - Use your common sense. Some things about ISU are going to sound wrong or stupid or useless. Go with your gut.

    In three sentences

ISU is becoming a business, instead of an institution of learning, where all they care about is making more money. The staff members range from excellent to poor. Overall, the school babies its students and tries to take as much of their money as possible.

Th fountain is a beautiful landmark, it is what most people remember most about the campus landscape. The running water can be not only a unique sight, but also a calm and soothing effect that can possibly help you forget about your worries at the moment. During freshmen orientation, future students make it a tradition to run through the fountain in order to become and official ISU student! I participated in the voluntary event and it was a blast of fun!

    Bang for the buck

If you are from an urban area, you might feel more comfortble if you have a car. Terre Haute, Indiana is rural, and is not big on means of public transportation. Some things are far from campus, like the fraternity parties and shopping stores.

    What to do for fun

Attending ISU home games are always fun and free! like basket ball, football, track events, etc. Inside the Commons is an area called DEDE I, many parties and fun events, are held here for a small cost of one or two dollars.

    Food and Dining

Dinning services offers a variety of food, from the grill to the Deli bar. The commons is a place full of restaurants, and there are some healthy choices such as subway and fresh fruit inside the campus cupboard store. A warning to all the freshmen, would be to spend their commons cash wisely, because it`s like real money and can disappear just as quick!

    Dorm Life

Freshmen dorms are exceptional, so of course, they have community bathrooms and guest of the opposite sex can only stay so long at night. The housing for the upper class men is great! Each room has their own bathroom and each floor has a stove in the lobby. Even guest of the opposite sex are welcome to stay the night, if it`s okay with their room mate.

The nursing program at ISU is one of the best in the state. Physical therapy is also a good degree to look into at ISU. Dietetics is the major I'm pursuing, and only two other schools have that degree available. Sports medicine is also a hot major.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved! Join clubs, get in student government, be active in your residence hall if you live on campus. Go to tutoring. No one will think you're dumb. Everyone needs some extra help from time to time, and no one understands everything.

    Bang for the buck

ISU needs more scholarships for returning students. There are quite a few opportunites for incoming freshmen, but not so many for undergrads. Room and board has been my biggest expense.

    Am enjoying being here

I love Terre Haute! Some people don't like the smell, but I don't think it's that terrible. I also like the size of the town. It's just perfect coming from a small town like I did, so the transition to college wasn't a complete culture shock.

    Am learning a lot

I love all the courses I have been taking! The professors are knowledgeable in whatever they are teaching and very eager to help students who don't quite understand certain concepts. There are a lot of tutoring opportunities in every department.

ISU is a college for people interested in diversifying their global outlook. They are so many different kind of students, from all different kinds of back grounds, you never know who you may meet next. The other big deal is the college of business offered through ISU. It is the greatest thing that has ever happened to me.

    Tips for prospective students

I have only two short tips for anyone looking at ISU: Apply early so that you are accepted to the many recurring scholarships offered through the university. Do not goof off too much. College is a place to push the boundaries, but do not take anything too far. It is far too easy to skip a class because you had a late night, but after that first class missed it becomes a landslide of skipped classes. For your information, when class meets they are covering information that you will use years down the road.

    Bang for the buck

ISU is a state school, so because of this, they have so much money to give to perspective students. As long as you apply to the school by the time of the scholarship deadline dates, and have a decent GPA of 3.0 or higher. You can be accepted for so many scholarships I would be surprised if you have to pay anything. Combine this with the fact that many of these scholarships are recurring I would highly suggest ISU for anyone worried about paying for school. Because even if you do not get your entire experience paid for. The people in the scholarship department are more than willing to help you out. I, for example, asked the director if she knew of any scholarships that I could be eligible for, and within a week I was accepting a $3000 scholarship, and I did not have to do anything for it. If that is not more bang for your buck I do not know what is.

    Am enjoying being here

The biggest thing that I would contribute my enjoyment from ISU, is the challenging nature of the classes. Though I thoroughly love being a part of such a diverse and unique student body, I love how I can get as much as I want from any and all classes that I attend. I know that you do not have to go to many of the classes, but the fulfillment that I get from going to class and learning something new and exciting everyday cannot be replaced by anything.

    Am learning a lot

I have only been at ISU for this past semester, but I am learning more from this one semester then I have my entire four years in high school. Between the professors in my classes who actually care if I come to class, and the opportunities to join some fun and educational clubs and fraternities I would suggest ISU for anyone interested in a college that has a world of opportunities to give. Whether it is study abroad chances, or internships found through the career center ISU is the place where I have learned so much, and for the next three years plan to learn so much more.

    Will enjoy being here

In my opinion, I'm sure I will. It's in a small town, very peaceful and safe. Moderate size campus, so it'll be pretty easy to meet new friends. Professors are very open and welcomed.

This school is great for those who have the ambition to learn and succeed in life, as well as have fun and enjoy themselves. Its a good school for those who like networking with people, and it's also a great school for those who like to party!

    Tips for prospective students

If you are considering coming to Indiana State, here's a few tips I think you may find very useful. During the process of choosing your meal plan, I would advise you choose the Blue Plan. It comes with over 1300 credits and almost $300 in Commons Cash. I highly recommend this plan because it provides you with this amount every semester and you have less of a chance of being broke when the end of the semester approaches. Also, try to avoid getting into fights. Although sometimes it hurts to walk away from a fight, you must realize that your future is at stake. Also, try attending some of the campus activities. If you attend them, there's a good chance you'll be coming out of it with a new shirt, a new water bottle, or some very unique gadget!

    Bang for the buck

I would say that Indiana State University is among the top most affordable schools to get into in the State! For being schooled in Indiana and pursuing college in-state, students get a hefty discount which is mighty convenient to those whose parents are helping pay for their child's college expenses. After being here for a year already and comparing my experience with the discounted amount I paid, I would say that Indiana State is definitely a Bang for the buck school.

    Am enjoying being here

Indiana State is jam-packed with activities and points of interest. We have recently been provided with a Recreation Center which is equipped with an indoor swimming pool and jacuzzi, an indoor track, a 6 basket Basketball Court, a weight room, and an indoor soccer/street hockey cage. I do not believe I could sum up all of the fun I've had in the Recreation Center because every time I go, I have a blast! Also, one of the best parts about campus is the Commons. In it, you can purchase food from well-known restaurants such as Burger King, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell. We also have a KFC Express on campus which a bulk load of students prefer. As well as there's food and physical activities, there's parties and fun! I, personally, have fun everyday at Indiana State due to its fine atmosphere, networking with different people, and making new friends daily! I enjoy myself to the maximum here at Indiana State!

    Am learning a lot

As a student at Indiana State, I would highly recommend my school to all those who enjoy learning new things and have an undying ambition to obtain success in the world today. Indiana State is equipped with great professors that put forth great effort to help our students succeed. With more than 100's of classes to choose from, there's no limit to what knowledge you can obtain. So far, I have taken classes from over 7 different fields of study and I'm just now entering into my sophomore year! I've learned more in one year of college than I have in both my Junior and Senior years in High School combined! Very impressive I must say!

One of things ISU is known for around the state is called The Walk. This is where everyone that is 21 years old walks from a bar at 6 in the morning to the football stadium hitting every bar on the way. This is one of the greatest things I have enjoyed about this University in the four years of being here!

    Food and Dining

Also a numerous amount of new groups are being made to join to meet new people and to throw on campus events

    Food and Dining

There is not a ton of selection for food on campus. There are 3 dinning areas. Two dinning halls and the commons which has fast food restaurants such as pizza hut, eddy's, taco bell, burger king and two local food businesses. Most restaurants are very speedy in getting your food to you.

    Dorm Life

While there is not a ton of selections for dorm life dorm life is very convenient. All dorms are located close to cafeterias around campus. Most rooms are small but just big enough if you work with your roommate

    Campus Safety

ISU is very safe. Occasionally, there will be a report of criminal activity, usually nothing very serious. If something serious does happen, there are cameras all over campus and there are tons of call stations located on campus where you can hit an emergency button and it sends help to your location immediately. Campus safety officials can be seen all over campus at various times of the day, so their presence helps deter potential incidents.

    Greek Life

I have not been involved in the social Greek life, but there are always Greek groups putting on activities and holding events. There are also annual events where the Greek groups compete against each other.

    Clubs and Activities

There are clubs for almost anything imaginable on campus, so there is always something to do.

Great for these types of students

ISU is great for all types of students. The student body is very diverse and there is never any confrontations between different groups of students because we all get along and we are all here for an education.

    Bang for the buck

ISU is a very nice campus and the cost of attendance is less than some of the other prominent universities in Indiana. It is also a very small campus with everything located relatively close, so walking across campus only takes about 10 minutes and there is no worry about traffic. Since it is a smaller school, the classes usually have a fairly small roster, which is ideal for an intimate learning setting. It is a very wonderful campus, especially for the cost of attendance.

    What to do for fun

For fun, one can attend the various athletic events or join and intramural sport team. There are also many Greek sororities and fraternities. The Rec Center is great for unwinding and releasing pent up stress. The Performing Arts program also offers many events, such as concerts and plays, that are usually free to students and are very enjoyable. Also, there are a lot of cultural events on campus where different ethnic cultures hold activities to celebrate their culture and they are often free for students and open to everyone.

    Food and Dining

The food is decent for school food. The cafeterias do not have that great of food, but it is pretty ideal for students who live on campus in the dorms. The student union has a good selection of food, but some times it is difficult to find seating. SubConnection is the best place to eat on campus and it is located in the student union. After a while, the food on campus gets a little boring because it is always the same food selection and the menus rarely change. Overall, it is fairly good.

    Dorm Life

I actually have never lived in the dorms, but I hear it is pretty fun, and some of the dorms are very nice such as the new Honors Student dorms.

    Academic Rigor

Some classes are very tough, it just depends on what class it is and who the professor is. The classes that are major-specific can be quite difficult, but the Foundational Studies classes are usually super easy.

    Tips for prospective students

Do not spend your time partying, put your studies first. If you need help, ask for it, the teachers actually love it when people ask for help.

    In three sentences

Indiana State University is a very beautiful campus. It is a smaller campus, with perfectly sized classrooms that allow for intimate discussions and promote a great learning environment. The professors are very knowledgeable and have the students' best interests in mind.

The campus is considered to be pretty safe. The Indiana State University police are always on patrol and more during night. They also have a crime log of events that happen on or around the campus.

Great for these types of students

From what I can tell, Indiana State University is great for that want a real college experience. However, it is just cozy enough for those who are not social, to get their degree without being pressured to join clubs.

    Bang for the buck

Because, I am a non-traditional student and need to get my degree as fast as I can, I am taking 18 credit hours a semester . I partially chose to attend Indiana State University because of the fee schedule. If you take 12 to 18 credit hours the tuition is combined into a semester rate.

    Campus Safety

Some sketchy things have happened off campus, but I think the safety on campus is pretty good. Just don't walk alone at night. That's a general rule for anywhere you go!

    Greek Life

Greek life is very prominent on the campus. The sorority housing is on campus, so it seems as though everyone is going Greek. This isn't necessarily true, but Greek life definitely has a strong presence that isn't so strong it runs the school. It's a nice balance, I think.

    Clubs and Activities

There are ALL kinds of clubs. There is a club for anyone or anything. If there isn't, you can start one and you're almost guaranteed to find someone to join it!

    Bang for the buck

VERY cheap tuition and you get so much out of it. I love ISU. It is the perfect school for someone looking to get a quality education on a budget.

    What to do for fun

There are many events hosted on different days on campus by different organizations. Aside from those specific functions, there are plays/musicals, concerts by the university's musical groups, a lounge where people can just hang out, and many other things. Many times, students make their own fun by hosting an event and so on. There are also many things to do off campus. Right across from campus is a bowling alley. There are malls and shopping centers all over the place that the bus can take one too. One could even go to ride go-karts or play putt putt. If books are your thing, there is a public library within walking distance. The possibilities for fun and enrichment are endless, regardless of what others say.

    Food and Dining

The food is really good for cafeteria-type food and you get a great deal! The dining halls are all you can eat and are pretty cheap to eat in!

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is pretty sweet. There are problems like in any college, but for the most part there aren't too many problems. The biggest problem is that most freshman live in the towers, which lack air conditioning and private bathrooms. While once a sophomore or higher, one can choose to live in better housing, this can seem unappealing. It's all part of the college experience, I think!

    Academic Rigor

Some classes have a heavy work load, but I wouldn't say that it is hard to attend this university. One cannot goof off and expect to receive good grades, but there will be plenty of chill time after studying and homework on most days. Even the busiest majors (Pre-Med, Music, and Social Work) have a little down time.

    Tips for prospective students

ASK FOR HELP WHEN YOU NEED IT. The professors are almost ALWAYS willing to help and only want to see you succeed. It is super important to keep your grades up for multiple reasons. If for any reason you are struggling in any area, there is SOMEONE who can help you on campus. It's almost GUARANTEED.

Great for these types of students

Most students that I've met all seem to be in the allied health sciences field or some type of education.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

To my knowledge Indiana State have several traditions, such as the trike race every year, Donaghy Day (Community Service), spring break community service trip every year, and student involvement at sporting events. Indiana State is well known for their amount of involvement in the community.

    Bang for the buck

Although the overall cost for school is overwhelming, there are ways around it and i believe you get more than your bang for you buck in a sense.

    What to do for fun

When it comes to free time, the guys on my floor try to do a lot together. Due to the fact the cost of membership at the Student Recreation Center is built into everyone's tuition gives me plenty to do. Being able to play basketball, workout, or go to sporting events gives me plenty to do on campus. But if it isn't so nice outside, my friends and I always find something to do in our dorm, we are creative.

    Food and Dining

There is such a wide variety of food and dining on and around campus that students have a lot of options. Depends on your choice of dining, the foods can range from healthy to fast food, it's all based on choice.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is great! Having the ability to connect and be involved with new people will happen any where, but the dorms here met more than my expectations for college life.

    Academic Rigor

Although i wanted a school that was larger and more of an upper scale school, the work and environment at Indiana State has that feeling. The difficulty of classes all depends on your field. Personally being in the nationally ranked, Athletic Training Program courses, the work can be overwhelming, but it's what is necessary to succeed.

    Tips for prospective students

If Indiana State is a possibility of yours, make sure you arrange a college visit; being able to be on the campus changes one's whole view on the school. Also, when it comes to academics, look at your specific program ranking at Indiana State University. Make sure you keep your options open.

    In three sentences

Indiana State University is more than i expected. I personally wanted to attend a large college, but Indiana state is the perfect size and seems to fulfill all of academic expectations. Although the school is rate poorly in general, the overall experience is more than portrayed.

The food in the dining hall is not very great. There's not a big variety and some of the food is just gross. They do always have cereal and a salad bar though, which is always good. The commons has Burger King, Pizza Hut, George's Cafe, and some other places which are very good, but after awhile it gets old. Sometimes a person just needs a home cooked meal; instead, of campus food.

    Dorm Life

I love living in the dorms. It allows me to make more friends and meet knew people. The best thing about my dorm is that I have my own bathroom. Most dorms on campus do, but the freshman dorms do not, nor do they have air conditioning, so it can get very hot in those dorms.

    Academic Rigor

The classes are not too hard as long as you have the textbooks and actually study. The teachers are also helpful and if you are actually trying in class then the teachers are willing to help you with your grade.

    In three sentences

I think Indiana State University is a great school. All of the teachers and staff are wonderful and help as much as they can. The school also has many clubs, activities, and other ways for students to get involved on campus and in the community.

    Campus Safety

I love that the campus safety here is pretty in-forced. I love how i can walk around and feel safe knowing that the security on campus is good!

    Greek Life

Greek life is a big thing here at ISU!

    Clubs and Activities

There are hundreds of clubs and activities that people can join. There are all types of things for students to get into, and if you cannot find anything that you are interested in them you can create your own organization and go from there.

Great for these types of students

I say that ISU is great for teaching majors. The school is one of the best in Indiana!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

One of the traditions that is really cool is called The Walk it is when everyone walks to the homecoming game together. It is kind of like a tailgate with everyone from the school!

    Bang for the buck

One thing that I really love about ISU is that it is not too far from home, and i love living the campus life and not being too far from home at the same time.

    What to do for fun

The things that I like to do for fun are: going to the campus activity's, hanging out with my friends in the commons, the safe parties that they offer on campus, there is a lot that I can not name them all!

    Food and Dining

The food here is good, the only thing that I do not like is that the dining halls are closed on Fridays, and some days I do not feel like eating in the commons. The commons are convenient when you do not feel like eating in the dining halls. It is like having some of your favorite restaurants right at your finger tip.

    Dorm Life

The dorm life is good, it could be better because I live in Mills Hall.Other than the towers the dorms are decent!

    Academic Rigor

Great program, right now I am education major and the Bayh College of Education is great! One of the best in Indiana!

    Tips for prospective students

    1. Get involved 2. Stay foucsed 3. Do not go home every weekend 4. Do no be shy 5. Make the most of it, because it will fly by

    In three sentences

Indiana State is a great school for me! It is close to home, a lot of fun things to do. and serious teachers that want you to succeed! Although this is my first year here I love the experience that I am having! Over all this school gets five stars from me.

    What to do for fun

I can not stress this enough, get involved with the community. Join clubs, attend events, get out of your comfort zone.

    Food and Dining

The food and dining area is great. A very large location full of many places to enjoy your favorite meals with your friends and colleagues. With a vast selection of cafeteria options, from fast food to healthy salads, really anything you want or can think of is offered.

    Dorm Life

Not speaking from my own experience, but I have heard many compliments about ISU dorms, how they are relatively maintained and a unique experience for every student. Also a great way to make friends and have fun competing with other dorms.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone, so many students don't really enjoy their time at many of the events that ISU offers because they are to shy or not sociable enough to attend such fun events.

    In three sentences

I have only been attending Indiana State University for the past two semesters. However, in those two semesters ISU has drastically shown why students enjoy this campus so much. Indiana State University provides great professors to aid you in your major, a great campus to socialize with other students, and many facilities to keep you entertained and make your home away from home experience the best one yet.

    Bang for the buck

Financial Aid usually has a few tricks up their sleeves. They allow you to only get so much money and most times it's not all the money you need. They are very unclear with what different loans come with as far as how much interest you have to pay on a loan and when that interest starts to accumulate. They also don't inform you if and when a certain scholarship or grant is discontinued so if you got a certain grant the semester before and they discontinue that grant, you won't know anything about it until you receive the bill and then physically go ask about why you owe that much.

    What to do for fun

There are a lot of different events going on around campus all the time. You just have to know when and where they are. There are usually a good amount of flyers posted around campus.

    Food and Dining

There are two dining halls and a food court on campus. The food isn't bad; however, be conscious of the meal plan you get. The food in the food court is kind of expensive so sometimes the money runs out faster than you would think.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are kind of small and are pretty expensive. The showers in the Sandison Hall makes the whole room muggy and feels hoot and moist.

    Academic Rigor

Some classes are harder than others.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you know the dates and times for when you have to move out of the dorms for breaks and when you can move back in. (Dates and times vary). Make sure you know and communicate with your professors; they will be more willing to help you this way. Also know there is free tutoring in every subject, get the help if you need it.

    In three sentences

Indiana State University has some great professors that are willing to help students and only a few that aren't. The campus isn't that big so everything you need is very accessible. Overall, it is not a bad school.

    What to do for fun

I know that the campus always has a lot going on during welcome weeks for freshman, they have an annual fountain party and there is always something for homecoming week but a lot of the things take place during the day so just keep up to date with what is going on during that day and try to stop by between classes. Also, watch for different flyers that will be posted every where that will always tell you if anything fun is happening that weekend.

    Food and Dining

Food for the most part is always available, you just have to becareful how you spend your credits and commons cash. I really enjoyed the food there but once you get towards the end of each semester it just gets tiring eating the same thing over and over again.

    Dorm Life

I lived in the sycamore towers as a freshman and i was not to impressed with them. the rooms were always way to hot because there is not condition in the building and then during the winter the heat would be up way to hot. I heard they did some renovating but I am not to sure if it fixed the air condition problem. Depending on your personality and the people on your floor you could get along well.

    Academic Rigor

Academics is a big thing at indiana state, most of the teacher really care if you are learning and as long as you are engaged and in class you will learn. there are some teachers whose teaching skills could be a little better but overall very good staff.

    In three sentences

Indiana State University is a great place for students that are looking for a great university that does not have a really big campus. Indiana State is a very good school I give it a 5 out of 5 stars.

The campus has a no weapons policy that makes for a small hazard. Peper spray and pocket knives will be confiscated and legal gun ownership is prohibited for students. there have been many occurrences of assault and rape and the Students for Conceales Carry is working on a motion in the council for legalizing concealed carry weapons with a proper Indiana gun permit.

    Greek Life

There are plenty of fraternities and sororities for everyone's taste. I'm a girl, and i found my way into office in a professional fraternity.

    Clubs and Activities

There is something for everyone at ISU. In my first semester, I was innitiated into a co-ed fraternity and voted into office as the sectretary. anyone can get involved.

Great for these types of students

I found out that the technology department is very strong and the aviation programs are incredible. the tech majors can get pricey but they are well worth it.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The ISU campus is riddled with artwork. The main fountain is a grand gathering place for staff and students. Every fall, there is a movie on a large projector screen on the presidents lawn. The presidents house is the original building of the founder of the Indiana State University.

    Bang for the buck

books and classes can be expensive, but if you do your research and work for it, you can find all kinds of help.

    What to do for fun

There is almost ALWAYS something going on in the DD halls. There is a pool room. There is a room with a piano. There are weekly concerts and entertainment. If you look on the pillars in the Commons eating area, you will find ENDLESS options.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't under-estimate your ability to pursue your dreams. Don't be afraid to ask for help because the worst that could happen is to be told no. Balance your time wisely. Take breaks to stay stress free. Please get involved. You won't regret it.

    In three sentences

Indiana State University surprised me with how many doors they can open in my life through my bachelors degree. I was not expecting such a wonderful environment from the staff, students, organizations, campus life, classes, and advising. When i applied for colleges, I was looking for some big sign that I would belong and at first, I didn't find one, but when i got my acceptance letter from ISU, I was made to feel right at home from the very moment I enrolled.

    What to do for fun

Sports, Greek life, band, clubs, student organizations, volunteer work, and more. In addition, ISU has a very nice recreational center near the library that has basketball courts, a swimming pool, a hot tub, an indoor track, weightlifting equipment, and treadmills.

    Food and Dining

The food is mediocre most of the time. Occasionally our dining halls serve phenomenal meals, though the choices of entrees you have have gone down in recent years.

    Dorm Life

I rate this so low because ISU is a very crowded place. Starting Spring 2014, they raffle off dorm rooms by lottery. Freshmen are guaranteed housing their first semester, but the rest of the student body may be left to find off campus housing.

    Academic Rigor

I can't say much about the rigor of higher level courses as a second semester freshman, but the courses I have taken have all been a challenge in and of themselves. Each course is run very differently by very different professors, the hardest part academically of college is learning to adapt.

    Tips for prospective students

Go to class; you're paying for it. Classes cost about $300 a credit hour, so this is a big thing. Teachers in high school might have held your hand as you took their classes, but in college, it's your job to get up and go to class, study for that test, and do the assignments. There is no hand holding, but if you do try, teachers or student tutors will be there to help you. Get involved. The first year in college can be lonely if you don't get involved. Whether its sports, music, or Greek life, getting involved is very important to get the most out of college.

    In three sentences

Indiana State is a large campus in Terre Haute, Indiana, that houses around 12,000 students. The dorms are small, but they're nice. Especially the premium dorms. I like that there are options to choose from like floors dedicated to certain majors or related majors and co-ed floors.

    Academic Rigor

Looking at a few of the different majors, there are quite a few that will require very heavy workloads, around 15 credit hours a year. If you don't think you can handle it I would suggest looking for some help in managing time and learning good study skills.

    Tips for prospective students

Be willing to make changes in your study habits if you aren't that great at studying. Pack rather lightly because the dorms aren't very big and you're sharing the space with someone else. Start your year off with an open mind, willing to surround yourself with new things and experiences.

    In three sentences

ISU has a beautiful campus. On that campus you'll find many useful resources as well as fun things to do. It's not very large but it's not very small either, so you won't feel lost or cramped.

    Campus Safety

Campus Safety was one of the main things I went to school wondering about, whether it was going to be good or not. The campus safety crew at Indiana State University is awesome! They are always roaming around on the sidewalks, and if you need a ride because of an injury or something, they are there to take you where you need to go on campus. Not just the students that are employed, but also the Indiana State University police do a great job by going up and down the streets around campus to make sure nothing is happening that isn't supposed to be happening.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many different clubs and activities. Join them! There is something different for everyone and how you feel about things or your personality. They are a lot of fun!
