Great for these types of students

IWU is great for students who are interested in achieving a degree while still furthering their relationship with God. Besides that I'm not sure how else to describe who else its good for since there are such a wide range of people types at the school.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are thinking about going to IWU the best advice I can give you is to go on a Monday, Wednesday, or Friday because those are chapel days and that is half of your IWU experience. Also if you are interested in singing at the school you should come to a practice for one of the musics groups. Trust me they will blow you away! My final piece of advice is when you sit in on a class try to avoid the general education classes because they may give you the wrong impression of class size and classes in your intended major are better to experience on a college visit.

    Bang for the buck

This school tends to be on the more expensive side but they do provide their fair share of scholarships to help make the fee more manageable

    Am enjoying being here

After being on summer break for 2 months, I realized how much I miss the atmosphere of the school. The teachers are always welcoming of questions and try their best to learn who you are in the short period of time you are in their class. Also, the student body,as a whole, are very welcoming and it is an easy place to make friends for anyone.

Great for these types of students

Art, religious, worship, nursing, music, and athletic majors.

    Tips for prospective students

If you're worried about meeting new people this place will ease your worries. The classes can be hard and stressful but that's all the part of college. Come expecting to have a great time while learning a lot and you will not be disappointed!

    Bang for the buck

Since it is a private school it will be a bit more expensive BUT it is one of the cheapest private schools around! Also, IWU is generous with scholarships & loans. There are a ton of on campus jobs for students which can help pay for the tuition also.

    Will enjoy being here

The first time I visited I made 10 new friends. When I went to register I made 4 new friends. The environment is extremely friendly. There are game rooms and tons of places to hang out. For example: Wildcat, McConn (The coffee shop), the game room, and each of the buildings lounges.

    Will learn a lot

From the friends I have already made on campus after visiting once, I have heard that the classes are VERY good! The teachers are extremely helpful. The classes are hard but they push you to learn more and become your best at the career you want to have. Of course, it also depends on how much effort you put into each class.

    Tips for prospective students

I would say to never go by the word of mouth of others. Many students will bash the university on its rules or give you horror stories on their experience here. My advice: SEE FOR YOURSELF. If you have a question about our school, don;t be afraid to ask it. If you're planning on coming here, spending the next four years of your life (and all the money) here, know what you're getting into. In short, be curious and ask questions.

    Bang for the buck

By far, I would say the size of the university and how it opens for one-on-one support by our faculty is the most impressive, bang for the buck idea that Indiana Wesleyan brings to the table. I think having the ability to e-mail a professor with a question, set up a meeting and have coffee, or simply enjoy their company is very valuable. I remember when my advisor, Dr. Constance Cherry, emailed me to have coffee one day last semester. During that time, she simply encouraged me in what I was learning and said she saw so much in me as a student. You can never put a price on moments like that. Never.

    Am enjoying being here

All in all, I do enjoy my time at Indiana Wesleyan. Some days are harder than others. Early classes are hard to wake up for sometimes, but the truth is every class is an opportunity to learn and grow that much more, so I do really love being at Indiana Wesleyan.

    Am learning a lot

I have learned very much from my time at IWU. I am a Christian Worship major with an emphasis in Media, which basically means I'm training to become a media leader within the the Church. Many of my classes, especially Media Scriptwriting, Radio Production, Intro. to Worship, and many others have taught me a lot about producing media in the Christian world. Something specific that I've seen with my major and minor over my time here is the importance of communication. Worship as its core is the communication of the story of God to His people. With that same thought, I've learned to be purposeful and intentional in everything that I create, to craft my work so the message of God shines through with clarity and ultimately points back to Him. It's such a God thing I have learned this idea about communication and worship coming together like this.

This campus is good for any kind of student. the professors are always willing to help and talk. They really care for the individual.

    Tips for prospective students

Be prepared to work hard and have a lot of fun. Try to make sure you do well at balancing your time.

    Bang for the buck

Expensive but well worth every penny. You can get a lot of scholarships anyway.

    Am enjoying being here

The atmosphere on campus is so welcoming! There is so much to do and I have felt really at home. It is amazing with how much the environment resembles a family!

Great for these types of students

As cliche as it sounds. IWU is right for just about any christian I can think of. We have a wide variety of majors and there are all sorts of activities and groups to be a part of. I will be one hundred percent honest in saying that if you are NOT a believer that attending IWU will be a real eye-opener. If you dont have a relationship with Christ I would encourage you to come and see how He moves through people here everyday and how truly present He is in everything we do.

    Tips for prospective students

My biggest piece of advice would e to VISIT. you will never know if a school is truly right for you unless you get on campus and feel it. Also, make sure that it is really what you are looking for. There are a lot of amazing things here but there are also some sacrifices that you have to make.

    Bang for the buck

It isnt the cheapest school out there but it is relatively inexpensive as far as private schools go. There is lot here and the university offers a lot so it is well worth the bigger price tag.

    Am enjoying being here

The community at IWU is fantastic. You feel like a big family. These are TONS of social activities almost to the point of excess but there is definitely no shortage of things to do.

    Am learning a lot

I learn more new and interesting things every day. It is really cool to gain knowledge in the world with a christian point of view.

Christians, those who want to go to learn and make friends.

    Bang for the buck

It's expensive, but they have excellent scholarship opportunities for almost every major available.

    Will enjoy being here

They only have chapel three days a week, but they have a stunning campus and very friendly students. They are focused on prayer and Christ, even if their chapel is every other day.

    Academic Rigor

Their professors are so nice and make you feel at home. They make you feel comfortable in the classroom and strive to know every student's name. In the lunch room, one of the professors in line ahead of me asked me my name and what I thought about the campus, which meant a lot to me!

    Campus Safety

Campus safety is dead on with things. We get emails and texts if there is a problem and they watch for that out of the ordinary situation that shouldn't be there. So yes I do feel safe.

    Clubs and Activities

They have loads of clubs and activities to choice from. So I can't see someone being bored here.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for those that want to attend college and still stay close to the lord.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is an old church on campus that is just so beautiful. I think even if you are not religious you would find it amazing in many ways.

    Bang for the buck

I find this school expensive but they have several options open to help with the cost.

    What to do for fun

We have sports volleyball games against our dorm's. We go to our movie theater. Some of us even like to go to our local bingo parlour. Then we go to our local ice cream shop just to hang out.

    Food and Dining

The food here is excellent and cheap. You won't even want to go out for that McDonald's.

    Dorm Life

This is awesome. I have made a band of brothers that will always be there for me. We support each other and help when needed. I couldn't ask for a better dorm then what I am in.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you have everything in order. Apply for your student loans or grants right away. Make sure you do your classes so you get what you want. Sort out your roommate ahead of time.

    In three sentences

This is an amazing place. I feel very lucky to be able to study here. My professor' s are very accommodating.

Great for these types of students

    1. Christian. Although you don't have to proffess Christianity to attend IWU, you may have a hard time if you don't - chapel attendance is required. 2. Strong academically. IWU's academics are rigourous, be prepared for lots of homework time. 3. Good writing. Many IWU classes require an unusual amount of writing. 4. Adult. IWU has many satelite campuses and online courses making it convenient for adult/ non-traditional students.

    Tips for prospective students

    1. Start on a Fall semester. (there are much more new student orientation activities and such) 2. Plan out your entire academic career before starting. (this can save you a lot of headache down the road and, hopefully, keep you from beeing in school longer than expected and thus save you money. 3. Look into church matching scholarships. (IWU will match a scholarship from your church up to $900/year) 4. If you are concerned about finding your place in the IWU community, its probably a good idea to live in a freshman dorm for you 1st year. 5. Financially speaking, it can actually be much cheaper to live off campus with some roommates. 6. PLAN CAREFULLY. Some classes are only offered in certain semesters or even every other year.

    Bang for the buck

As with all private schools, IWU is quite expensive. However, they will do whatever they can to help you find financial aid as long as you are willing to hold up your end of the deal and take the time to fill out your FAFSA and such.

    Am enjoying being here

I do enjoy most of my classes and the student services such as food, recreation, and social opportunities are wonderful. However, I really wish there were a greater connection between IWU and the city of Marion. There is virtually no apparent mutual support between the university and the city. This divide is so apparant that there is even slang term for it: the IWU bubble. As far as the campus itself goes though, the faculty and students are, for the most part, very friendly and personable. Also, the weekends are dead. There might be a home sports game or occasional theatrical event but, in genereal, the campus is like a ghost town on weekends.

    Am learning a lot

I have only completed a single semester at IWU and I feel that the knowledge I have received, thus far, has been very helpful. However, it has been better in the sense of personal development than professional skills learned. I feel more aware of what I believe, but not necessarily more prepared to enter the job market. I hope that this will change as my academic career here continues.

Great for these types of students

*Christian *Hardworking *Social *Those in a spiritual crisis. You will find yourself surrounded by people, both staff and students, who are willing to help see you through.

    Tips for prospective students

*Look into as many of the school scholarships and grants as you can. Even though attending is a bit pricey, IWU offers quite a few different scholarships that can help cut tuition down to a more manageable size. *Make certain that you will be fine with having to attend chapel three times a week. I've seen this ruin what would have otherwise been an o.k. year for some of my friends who didn't like being required to go. *Don't be afraid to approach your professors for extra help, as most would be more than willing. *Try to get off campus every once in a while. While it is quite possible to go the whole year without doing so, there are several interesting places to go around Marion, and it will add a little spice to everyday campus life.

    Bang for the buck

Being a private school, its more on the pricey end, but the quality of education, for both basic and major classes, holds itself up to its cost. As I said before, the professors usually will go the extra mile to help a student learn what he needs to if the student is willing.

    Am enjoying being here

First off is the friendly atmosphere, from the dorm rooms to the classrooms. In addition, there are plenty of opportunities to have fun with friends, with the many planned social activities on top of simply spending time with others - watching a movie in the campus theater, hanging out at the fountain, playing some racquetball, etc.

    Am learning a lot

Both academically and spiritually. The professors tend to put themselves out there to make sure the students are actually learning and understanding what is being taught. And if you are in need of some spiritual advice or guidance, you will find many of the profs willing to listen and help.

Indiana Wesleyan University is a great place to pursue a higher level of education. You create relationships with each professor which you won't see at a big public school. The professors are there to help you. I would recommend this to school for anybody to attend. It's a great place to learn and to create relationships with others.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't worry too much. I worry a lot and it really brought me down early on in my first semester of college. Do your homework ahead of time. It's a lot better do it ahead of time then doing it at three o' clock in the morning!

    Bang for the buck

You definitely get your money's worth here. It is a great institution of learning. I've created memories here that I'll never forget.

    Am enjoying being here

I love Indiana Wesleyan. Every time I come home for a weekend or a break I see myself missing it more and more. It is a wonderful place to pursue a upper level education. The Christian based environment brings you closer and closer to God and other students every day.

    Am learning a lot

Even though I struggled my first semester of college, I learned more than I ever have before. The class I most struggled in, Anatomy and Physiology, was probably the hardest class I have ever taken, but I learned a lot. Even though I didn't receive the grade I wanted to get, I did learn quite a lot about the material.

    Am enjoying being here

There are so many activities and groups to join! I enjoy the intramural sports.

    Am learning a lot

The classes are much more challenging than high school classes. I feel like I am actually learning something instead of just cramming information for tests and then forgetting it, like in high school.

Great for these types of students

It is great for any type of students. Do not necessary need to be a Christian fully. Their of great people here that will help you with your walk of faith, which is great.

    Tips for prospective students

Go for a college visit either on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday because that is when chapel is on. You are required to go, so checking out chapel is a great way to get a vibe from the campus.

    Bang for the buck

I do not really understand what this means. But it is an expensive school but the finical aid package they give is great.

    Am enjoying being here

The environment is great! Everyone is so friendly and they are so open about welcoming you. Doors are always being open for you and you can always catch people smiling.

    Am learning a lot

The professors are great and really care about your education. They pray before class which sets the mood for a great class. Small class ratio which I find to be great.

    Campus Safety

Excellent! Phones in every building that will connect you with someone that will come and escort you anytime you are alone and want a walking partner. Campus is so clean, well lit and maintained, as well as being clutter-free that not much could go on unseen. The layout of campus is airy, yet logical and small enough that it does not take more than 5 minutes to get anywhere.

    Greek Life

Minor. The Greek organizations are mostly honors or department/ major based. There are no Greek houses or suites.

    Clubs and Activities

As many as you might be able to imagine. Student created organizations and business are strongly encouraged. Way more international and global -outlook organizations and activities than anywhere else I have visited or heard of.

Great for these types of students

Students that want a Christian-based education with a global studies emphasis. Every department incorporates cross-cultural and global studies on some level. Returning adult students: We might be the minority of traditional students (there is a whole other adult-studies program that is great!) the atmosphere here is just beyond therapeutic, supportive and family-friendly. I love it! Instructors treat adult students with a great deal of respect and appreciation that is rare anywhere outside of a small community college.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

McConns coffee gathering. The most fabulous on-campus coffee shop I have ever seen! Super place to study, meet professors on a casual basis (which is very common at Wesleyan) , or just to chill out between classes. Traditions: Highly restrictive regulations compared to a state school. No alcohol on this campus. Only approved R rated movies allowed to be viewed on campus- including in your dorm! Restrictions do add to the ability to affectively focus on studies and to safely interact socially however. This is not to say it's not a fun school- it is! Many comedy shows like JK (just kidding) and FNL (Friday Night Live) all year round. Plenty of visiting dignitaries and fabulous speakers on a regular basis. The Student Center has a Movie Theater (the Globe Theater) right in the middle of it!

    Bang for the buck

If you are looking for a friendly, safe, clean and wholesome Christian education, this is the place for you! Having attended many other types and sizes of colleges over the years, I have never felt more warmly welcomed and emotionally supported as I do here. All the facilities of a large state university with the personal attention only a smaller school can provide. An excellent place for older students returning to school (such as myself), and a wonderfully supportive, grow-in-your-faith school for the younger set. One caveat however, being a Christian university, one must be ready to accept a few ethical expectations, and behavioral regulations. If you are looking to be a big partier, this is NOT the school for you! The campus is dry- for students and staff.

    What to do for fun

Plenty of recreational facilities, considering the smaller size of the school. The gym building includes a pool and rock -climbing wall,, racquetball and tennis courts along with a running track and complete work-out facility with all the latest exercise machines. A club football team is currently in the works. There are plenty of green-space areas and outdoor track and field facilities to accommodate whatever your sporting passion is. Nearby Marion has a roller-skating rink, parks, stables and just about any activity you can think of. As a bonus, the campus is located about half-way between Indianapolis and Ft.Wayne- an hour either north or south. Those cities are endless in activites and organizations. Marion offers plenty of opportunities for civic volunteerism as well, which is strongly encouraged-and often required in classes- at IWU.

    Food and Dining

Centralized cafeteria with seemingly unlimited food choices every day! There are even cook your own, cook to order and gluten free areas. The food is always fresh, healthy and appetizing. I love that everyone eats in one central place, located in the middle of the Student Center. The cafeteria is separated into one large seating area, and several small, restaurant like areas that can be closed off for meetings or reserved as a study area. I love it! Additionally, there is a food court and several small food establishments throughout the Student Center. A campus favorite hangout is McConns, a large. open air. Starbucks-like coffee shop with a few bakery items always fresh and available. There is even a big fireplace and lots of cushy seating available all year round.

    Dorm Life

I live off campus, so I do not have direct experience. From what I hear, dorms are clean, safe and gender segregated. You will have ample privacy when you need it. Resident assistants are extremely supportive and attentive to student needs. The campus in general is terrifically clean and conveniently laid out.

    Academic Rigor

Writing skills are heavily emphasized in all classes. If you do not like writing, this is not the place for you. If you want to enter the workforce well equipped with verbal and written communication skills that are key for advancement in any field- this is your school! Classes are challenging with a great deal of individual attention available. All classes begin with a prayer. Realize this when making your decision about what kind of atmosphere you want to be educated in. There are extensive tutorial and workshop resources available for all classes.

    Tips for prospective students

Take the campus tour! You will attend prospective classes and get a real feel for how well you will fit in. You will have the opportunity to meet students and professors, as well as trying out all facilities.

    In three sentences

Fantastic Campus Atmosphere! Excellent student-professor relationships with EVERY professor you have a class with. Practical in terms of administration, Christian focused and non-discriminatory in all ways.

    What to do for fun

i live in a rural town outside of ft wayne, so i don't know much about the entertainment there, but i know there are mad ants basketball, komets hockey, and jefferson pointe offers shopping and movies.

    Food and Dining

i don't know about marion, but the ft wayne area has great food and dining for every taste and budget.

    Dorm Life

i can't speak to this - i do not live on campus - so i rated it average.

    Academic Rigor

i have found every course challenging and exciting, and always finish a class wanting more. in a state of outstanding universities, i definitely feel i am getting a top quality education, and am proud to say i am earning my degree at iwu.

    Tips for prospective students

even for online students, it's still important to visit with an adviser in person and go over your degree audit, financial options, and school philosophy to make sure it is a good match for you. don't underestimate the value of your education in a christian environment and the relationship with your school just because you're learning online. it is still a fantastic opportunity to fulfill your dreams of a 4 year degree in a faith-filled community, and you don't want to miss out meeting the people that are ready to walk with you on your journey!

    In three sentences

i am an online student, and am very impressed with iwu's online degree programming. i find it far more challenging, engaging, and rewarding that i ever would have imagined an online program could be! although i am missing out on the on-campus experiences, as an adult learner ans at-home mom, the virtual classroom option is a much better trade-off and not at all a compromise to my education.

campus police are very effective and genuinely care about students here at iwu. they are working hard 24/7 to keep us safe.

    Clubs and Activities

there are many different clubs which you can be a part of. if there's not a club that suits your tastes, start your own! it's a fairly simple process--in fact, one of my friends did so this year, and she loves it! there are clubs celebrating a love of languages, cultures, and interests, as well as many other clubs tailored to the unique tastes of students here at iwu. there really is something for everyone.

the game room is a fun place to spend time, whether playing pool, ping-pong, video games, air hockey, or an old-fashioned board game. mcconn, the campus coffee shop, is a great place to hang out and study, especially during the winter, when the fireplaces are ablaze. the commons provide a great atmosphere for studying or relaxing with friends, and the piazza is a terrific place to hang out as well. there are several plays performed each semester, and with cheap ticket prices and terrific acting, they're worth attending. the globe theatre in the mallway shows fun movies on the weekends sometimes, and their prices definitely can't be beat! when it's warm outside, students play campus golf with tennis balls. no matter the weather or time of day, it's easy to find something to do on iwu's campus for fun.

    Food and Dining

baldwin, the cafeteria, has so many options for dining: main line, rotisserie, baked potato/nacho bar, salad bar, pasta, pizza, breakfast bar, and more! if you get tired of baldwin, though, wildcat has even more options, serving chinese, chick-fil-a, mexican, pizza, deli, and even frozen yogurt. the food really is top-notch, especially compared to a lot of other colleges, and with so many options, it's hard to go wrong.

    Dorm Life

the dorms here have such a great sense of community. with weekly unit dinners, brother-sister dorms such as hodson and evans, and monthly events within units as well as dorms, there's never a shortage of activities to attend. once you meet the other students living in your dorm, you'll begin to form your own college family, and really build friendships that will last.

    Academic Rigor

classes are tough, and with a shorter semester than most other colleges in the u.s., the workload is heavier, too. if you pay attention, take good notes, study, and do all your work, you'll find you're getting your money's worth from every class you take. you have such a great opportunity to learn here; it's up to you to accept the challenge!

    Tips for prospective students

come expecting to be involved. there are so many different activities to help you meet new people, and they're all so much fun! it can be extremely difficult to transition from high school to college life, but getting involved and excited about the process can help make that transition easier.

I won't lie, Marion is pretty much ghetto, but campus is VERY nice and well-lit. People and campus police are always nearby. I have even been out late at night, studying or doing devotions, but I feel safe on campus because there are people around. If however, you feel unsafe, or are walking to or from a more distant parking lot at night, you can always call campus police or a male friend, and they'd be more than happy to escort you back to your dorm. As for leaving campus at night, I feel safe at Meijer and food places, but I don't like going to Walmart at night.

    Greek Life

The only Greek around here would be in a biblical languages class. Lol!

    Clubs and Activities

We have chapel 3 times a week, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. You are required to attend (we scan in and out) but you are allowed 6 chapel skips a semester. Personally though, I LOVE chapel. It's a nice break during the day to get away from everything and meet with God. The worship is almost always student led and is different every time (contemporary, rap, hymns, etc) so there's a style for everyone. The messages are always good too, whether it's a special speaker or our very own Dr. Lo or student body chaplain. We also have all sorts of clubs, from sports, to nursing, to fighting human trafficking and martial arts.

Great for these types of students

A few weeks after school starts, we have res life week, where all the dorms compete against each other to see who is the best. There are several competitions--pudding tug-of-war (so much fun!), dodge ball, the Bowman boat race, etc. The Bowman boat race is where each unit within the dorms creates a boat using only cardboard and duct tape. There is also an annual Humans vs. Zombies game, so bring your Nerf guns! As for locations, I must say that one of my favorite places on campus is the Williams Prayer Chapel. It's small, quaint and a great place to get away, day or night, and spend time with God or get things off your chest. One time a guy even offered to pray with me, after seeing I was distraught about something. That was so sweet of him and I'll never forget it!

    Bang for the buck

I love IWU and do not want to go anywhere else, but to be frank, it IS expensive. I was my high school's valedictorian, but feel as if I could've breezed through and received the same amount of financial help. Honestly, it is a struggle for my family and I have been told many times that I might not be able to go all four years. Right now, though, I am just trusting God to provide, since he gave me my calling in the first place and knows that I need this education. IWU does have a great work study program. I have worked in the cafeteria, which is okay, but then I got a job at an after school program that I absolutely love and am looking forward to returning to when I go back this fall!!!

    What to do for fun

Well, once you make friends, you can have fun pretty much anywhere, but specifically there are always clubs, activities, and things to do. We have a game room, each dorm has a TV lounge, and the recreation center has tons of things to do. Campus golf and intramurals are also an option.

    Food and Dining

Baldwin is our cafeteria. The food there is probably the best you are going to find anywhere, as far as college/cafeteria food goes. Also, having worked there for a semester, I can testify that most of it really is homemade in the kitchen. They even make their own peanut butter! The second option is Wildcat, where you can grab your food and take it back to your room or eat it in the piazza or wherever. Wildcat includes a burger place, a Chinese place, a deli, a burrito/quesadilla bar, oh and CHICK-FIL-A! There is also Mario's, where you can get pizza and pasta, but most students prefer the pizza in the cafeteria over Mario's.

    Dorm Life

Each dorm has several activities throughout the year--spiritual retreats, Christmas banquets, ice cream nights, movie nights, etc. The community is awesome here. Sometimes dorms even join together for an event.

    Academic Rigor

All my classes have been engaging and relevant. The professors are so nice, and are willing to meet with you for both academic help or just to chat. All of them care about you as a person.

    Tips for prospective students

    1. Work very hard in high school and get all the scholarships you can. 2. Take gen. eds. at your community college (BUT MAKE SURE THEY WILL TRANSFER) to save time and money--not to mention they will probably be easier. IWU is notorious for harder gen. eds. 3. Take Old Testament with Wilbur Williams. Seriously, you cannot come to IWU without taking a class with him. :)

    In three sentences

I love this college! Indiana Wesleyan is exactly what it's mission statement claims to be. It is a Christ-centered academic community committed to changing the wold by developing students in character, scholarship, and leadership.

On Campus police make sure the campus is safe! The police are hired in-town officers who patrol the campus. This gives them the capability to TASER or use force to detain criminals... EVEN STUDENTS! But this is a generally unnecessary function! A community of Christian students ensures that there are minimal thefts or misplaced items (less than 1 a semester on average)!

    Greek Life

Unfortunately-- especially as someone of Greek origin-- Indiana Wesleyan, being a dry campus, does not endorse the fraternity and sorority aspect of college life! They do include finely furnished dorms and brother/sister dorm activities, but no partying or drinking is tolerated! (My disappointment lies in the lack of white marble!)

    Clubs and Activities

There is a club or team for almost everything! Baseball, Soccer, Basketball, Volleyball, Ping Pong, Racquetball, Billiards, Student Government, Writing, Book Club, Debate Club, Student Activities, Dance Club and more!

Great for these types of students

Indiana Wesleyan accommodates all but the degenerate. Unfortunately if you're attending college for the sex, drinking or parties, IWU will quickly give you the boot! Everyone else should find it meets and exceeds all expectations!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Indiana Wesleyan has a few odd traditions: Campus Golf is a game where you use golf clubs to hit tennis balls into various dorm and learning hall doors; if you hit a member of the opposite sex, you are required to ask for that persons number! Another less odd, but enjoyable tradition is the Finals Scream! On the nights preceding finals, all students open their dorm windows and shout at the top of their lungs!

    Bang for the buck

Indiana Wesleyan University is exquisite, but you definitely pay for the accommodations. Beautiful landscaping, small classrooms, various amenities, automatic doors and dorm elevators come with a cost! Be prepared to lose a great deal of money to gain an unparalleled experience!

    What to do for fun

Your tuition encompasses a variety of amenities including a fitness center (that includes a rock wall, a pool, two gyms, basketball courts, an indoor track and racquetball courts), in-dorm gyms, a game room (that includes carpet ball, ping pong, billiards, board and card games, corn hole, etc.), IM Leagues (which includes intramural football, soccer, volleyball, bowling, basketball, ping pong and others!), campus golf, McConn coffee and more!

    Food and Dining

Pioneer Food Services does an exceptional job at preparing food at our Buffet Style Dining Hall, and students from other schools often compliment the delicious food; yet, the Dining Hall isn't even the main attraction! Fast Food meal swipe selections include a Chick-Fil-A, Casa Del Gato (a Chipotle style Mexican burrito or nacho place), 42nd Street Deli (a Subway style sandwich deli line) and Wild Wok (a stir fry and Asian dish selection)!

    Dorm Life

Dorm Life is designed to acclimate a variety of students from different walks of life, and encompass various interests. Essentially, Dorm Life at Indiana Wesleyan will accommodate whoever applies!

    Academic Rigor

The classes are challenging; however, given the proper amount of study and application- possibly combined with a helpful teacher/student relationship- no class is impossible to succeed in.

    Tips for prospective students

The majority of students enter college with their high school mindset and mentality in tact; however, the difficulty of Indiana Wesleyan University often leaves students feeling disappointed and they choose to turn away from education because of their own failures. Remember that while this is a private Christian University, it is still college!

    In three sentences

Indiana Wesleyan University is an academically focused and religiously inclusive Liberal Arts education designed to challenge students and prepare them for leadership in all future prospects.

IWU has the main dining area called Baldwin (aka Baldy) as well as a mini grocery store (the College store aka the c store) and the glorious wildcat. Wildcat has a deli similar to subway, an actual chick-fil-a, chinese and stir fry, and mexican pick up lines. It's really efficient during the day when the experienced workers are there, but on the weekends, some of the students who work aren't as good at making your food. You have a choice of meal plans and they have meal swipes and points which you can also spend at the IWU coffee shoppe, McConn. McConn is also glorious. Seriously. Better than Starbucks most of the time.

    Dorm Life

I love being in Beckett Hall on the Eastside of campus. There is such camaraderie between the girls in my unit and on my floor. Although we are all sometimes stressed, or really busy, we help one another out. There is nothing that an RA in Beckett wouldn't do for you. They are sooo encouraging. Tips for prospective students

Be prepared for a lot of work.

    In three sentences

IWU is a wonderful university where you will be challenged, academically and spiritually, to grow. The teachers (for the most part) deeply care about the students they teach and wish to see them be successful. Even though the work may be tough (that's a part of learning!) IWU is definitely worth it!

Great for these types of students

A wonderful university for adult learners.

    Bang for the buck

A little pricey but so is many universities today.

    In three sentences

Indiana Wesleyan University is organized and is very accommodating to the adult learner. I love how all core classes are preregistered and books delivered to your door the week before each class. Instructors are knowledgeable and interested in the students. Class size is small (about 15-19 students).

Check out North or South Hall for Freshman year! The all freshman environment is amazing, you only have one chance to do it so why not? Also being paired up with a mentor is a plus! No other dorm has a mentoring program

    Academic Rigor

You definitely have to work hard, however there are so many different places to get help. The Professors are great as well as the Center for Student Success, they are able to pair you up with some amazing tutors.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to check out Wilbur Williams Old Testament class. It is one class you MUST take he is one of the best professors on Campus.

    In three sentences

Once arriving on campus I knew this is where I was meant to be at. Indiana Wesleyan has some of the nicest facilities, professors, and student life in any university I looked at. The best part is your faith is integrated in every aspect of your life while at IWU.

    What to do for fun

Getting involved in intramurals is a good way to spend your free time and have fun. I loved playing on a team with guys from my hall. Also, getting to know guys in your hall is the best way to keep from getting bored.

    Food and Dining

Wildcat Express is the best place to go for food as far as most students are concerned. Baldwin is decent food most of the time, but nothing beats Wildcat.

    Dorm Life

The people in my dorm were cool guys for the most part. Some of the leadership in the hall was lacking though. It didn't seem like they were always in tune with guys in the hall and didn't make much of an effort to do that.

    Academic Rigor

The courses are challenging, but not impossible.

    Tips for prospective students

Meet as many of the professors as you can and get as much information about the major you're interested in. It will go a long way in deciding what major you stick with.

    In three sentences

Indiana Wesleyan has a positive atmosphere that encourages learning. The professors genuinely care about their students and their success. I have grown in both knowledge and understanding of the how the world works.

    What to do for fun

Well there is also student activities going on, so getting involved is good. They have a rock wall and also a swimming pool.

    Food and Dining

love it, the food here is wonderful, and I might gain 5000 pounds there. They have 3 options to pick from for meal plans, and they are all very flexible. Also there is a great variety of food that goes into it all.

    Dorm Life

I've heard great things about it! They give great surveys and connect you with a roommate that works well with you. and also has a mentoring program for incoming freshmen

    Academic Rigor

not quite sure yet, but I'm sure it will be challenging. I've heard it goes both ways, some say its challenging others say it can be easy. But I'm sure it all depends on the class, teacher and so on.

    Tips for prospective students

know what you are doing before you go. Know how you are going to pay and plan ahead of time. Also go visit before hand, ask tons of questions about how well known there major is.

    In three sentences

Great campus, not huge but its also not very small, so its easy to find your way around. The food is epic, going to have to worry about getting fat. The people are very helpful and informative

All i have to say is Baldwin. Baldwin is the buffet cafeteria at I.W.U. and most students eat and relax there during their day. I couldn't help but stuff myself everyday and every time i ate there.

    Dorm Life

the dorm life is one of the most exciting features of I.W.U. I stayed in Bowman house and the life there was stupendous and the community was bound as family. I recommend freshmen to stay at Bowman and be part of an old tradition at Indiana Wesleyan.

    Academic Rigor

The courses lined up for students at Indiana Wesleyan are designed to parallel the study of the bible and teachings of Jesus and the course of study the student has decided to take. I had difficulty my first year, but i still learned much new material.

We have actual sheriffs and policemen from the county patrolling the area, so anytime you feel threatened they're there right away. I guess it would stink if you did something illegal.

    Greek Life

The university does not have any.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many different clubs you can get involved with. It's hard not getting involved. Many often do events as fundraisers.

Great for these types of students

Christian kids often call this a summer camp, because the atmosphere seems similar. International students will also feel welcomed -many events are done to get to know other cultures.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Our university thinks it's necessary to put a new statue on campus every year. Thus, the students always prank the statues throughout the year. Though you could get in trouble with the police on campus (actual sheriffs), some students climb buildings.

    Bang for the buck

It's insanely expensive. Unless you can get a good grant or scholarship, I would find an extremely good reason for going there. Even the ROTC program doesn't cover because it's a private university.

    What to do for fun

Close to the university is a movie theatre, indoor skate park, bowling, shopping, fast food and nice restaurants, and coffee shops. Taylor University is about twenty minutes southeast, so any events you may want to go to there would not be far. Farther out are lakes, and many people like to go cliff jumping.

    Food and Dining

The university definitely takes care of it's students in this department. The cafeteria food is far better than any major public university, and is sometimes catered for events. There are also many different kind of food stations where you can have Mexican, Chinese, a salad/make your own sub station, pizza, yogurt, and a Chik-fil-a. There is also a coffee shop that many students use to study at. You can pay for your meals ahead of time and get points, instead of cash, and have all of these choices available all throughout the year.

    Dorm Life

Your dorm will regularly do at least one or two events a month, because the university and various clubs are always having something going on. Your hall will do dinners and weekly events and surrounds you with more things do and get involved with than you will know what to do with. Whether you commute or live on campus, there's always something to do.

    Academic Rigor

The material given the course depends on it's rigor rating. The humanities courses are a joke, but required, so getting a good gpa isn't a problem. Given your major courses it depends on how well you want to succeed after you graduate. What you put it into it will determine what you get out of it.

    Tips for prospective students

Marion is a city that needs love. Many of the people surrounding the school are overwhelmed with addictions, and could use a good influence. Personally, I got involved in the local Boys & Girls Club it helped make many kids feel like they had hope.

    In three sentences

This university offers a beautiful campus, encouraging community, and a desire to challenge it's students to become great leaders. The professors care about you as a student, and want to get to know you. The university has a strong emphasis on spirituality, so you will find many discussions around the campus on that idea.

There are phones all over campus for calling campus police, and if you ever feel uncomfortable at night or when alone, one of the deputies on staff will willingly provide an escort. Bang for the buck

The pricing is definitely hefty. Start applying for scholarships now because the atmosphere and education are worth it.

    What to do for fun

There is always something going on either in your residence hall, with your brother hall, or with the entire student body.

    Academic Rigor

It's obviously not as challenging as an Ivy League school probably, but there is plenty of difficult material and out-of-class studying. (Depending on your major, of course.)

    Tips for prospective students

If you aren't a devoted follower of Christ, this college is *not* for you even if they have a great program for your major! All of the classes have prayer/devotions and there is mandatory chapel. Additionally, the course material is even geared toward a Biblical basis occasionally. If that makes you uncomfortable, find another school. It's not worth your time.

Great for these types of students

IWU was created with adult learners in mind. As mentioned before they design classes and schedules with consideration of the students personal and work lives. Classes are small and study time if plentiful.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

IWU makes it a point to recognize their students and their commitment to education. They often have cook outs or student dinners to show their appreciation for choosing IWU.

    What to do for fun

Since I work full time, go to school, and have two children it is difficult to find time for fun. However, in Louisville, KY there are at least three museums to visit, Historical land marks, Church hill downs, and the famous 4th street live full of night clubs, restaurants, and comedy shows.

    Food and Dining

    Dorm Life

I live off campus so I cannot give much input on dorm life. However, IWU has multiple sites making access to onsite education possible for most.

    Academic Rigor

The course work is realistically doable. The programs IWU offers are designed for adult learners. Consequently, they consider work, kids, and home life. They want you to be successful, so they have designed these programs to aide in doing so.

    Tips for prospective students

Get to know your student advisor. They are there to help and lead you to success. They can help you identify the classes you need and provide with resources that are extremely helpful. The Bowman Boat Race is one of the first activities you will encounter at IWU. Each unit on campus build boats out of the cardboard boxes they bring when moving in. They are only allowed cardboard and ductap. They all gather around a pond on campus and try to float it across to the other side. One lucky vollunteer must be in the boat to row it safely to the other side!

There is a full time campus police staff at all times for the school. Each officer is a registered officer in Indiana, being a deputy I believe in the Marion Police Department. If they are not deputies they are still officers for the Department. The school hires them part time to work here as well and they have enough to work different times and different days.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for Christian students wanting to grow not only academically, but also spiritually.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The prayer walk is something unique. Every Wednesday students wake up at 6 a.m. to pray around the campus. It is something that I have not heard of before because it is open to the entire community and involves our school Chaplin.

    Bang for the buck

The school is expensive because it is private, but it offers opportunity for almost any person to be able to go. I don't come from an extremely wealthy family, I didn't get a substantial amount of scholarship for my freshman year of college, and I don't have a ton of money in my own pocket to spend here. IWU does offer a ton of different varieties of opportunity, though for students to come here. I cannot afford to go here without the scholarship I have, but I have it regardless. It's a school that will be worth investing in because it is challenging in every aspect of a student's life.

    What to do for fun

On the weekend Globe Theater is open, playing movies that would have come out even only a few months before school starts. The game room is open every night, offering pool, ping pong, carpet ball, and other things, and then there is the coffee shop, Mcconn, or the recitals in our music center.

    Food and Dining

The options here are quite large, but it can be a little boring after a while. I don't eat in the cafeteria very often because of the convenience of the faster food section. The food is good, but like I said, it can be a little boring after a while. Overall, though it is good and offers healthy and tasty options.

    Dorm Life

The dorm that I live in is so active and vibrant. I enjoy being a part of this campus and especially a part of this dorm. The spiritual growth here is incredible, which I live in Hodson by the way, and the men here are great guys. The R.D., George Bostanic, is a man who is so willing to step out and be active in your life.

    Academic Rigor

The classes are as good as any I believe that I could have at any other school. Public schools are tough because you don't have the ability to ask questions, whereas private schools will be tougher because of the professor's rigor quite often, but this school I believe has an academic intensity that is on-par with any other in the country.

    Tips for prospective students

If you want a great education with your classes and a phenomenal spiritual growth as well, come here. It will challenge you to grow into the best you you can be. You will not only learn about the career you want to go into, but you will learn about who you are meant to be, your passions, your unique gifts/strengths, and your walk with God.

    In three sentences

Indiana Wesleyan is a phenomenal school whose faculty, especially there professors, are incredible. They have doctorates in their field, which helps me to feel like they know what they are doing, care so deeply about the success of students, which helps me to feel like I can succeed here, and maintain a high level of professionalism. I think that this school is one of the best in the country.

FNL - every semester there is a spin-off of Saturday Night Live that IWU produces called Friday Night Live. Same concept, but packed with inside jokes about the school. Professional level comedy for $3. Some other quirks not worth mentioning, you'll find out if you go there.

    Bang for the buck

Pretty expensive private school. Although they are ok about giving aid. I went here because it was the cheapest of the private schools I was looking at, but not by much.

    What to do for fun

On campus there are a variety of events that take place. Worship sets, Concerts, low-key dances, etc. Beyond campus there is a movie theater, a bowling alley and a bunch of fast-food restaurants, and a couple descent sit-down restaurants. Beyond that, if you're looking for more, head to Noblesville or Indianapolis.

    Food and Dining

Cafeteria is great compared to most colleges. There is also a fast-food zone that serves from subs to pizza, and best of all Chik-fil-A. Plus there is a coffee shop and college store that will practically supply all your needs so you don't really need to go shopping. All of this is paid for with the meal plan, which unfortunately is quite pricy.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is great! The RA's are really great about getting to know you, and play a lot more than a rule-enforcer role. It seems that every dorm building has it's unique atmosphere, so find your fit. Apartment housing on campus for upperclassmen is great too. VERY spacious.

    Academic Rigor

Of course it all depends on what major you are, but from my experience I would say if you actually put forth effort, you will succeed. It seems very standard for a college

    Tips for prospective students

If you're a party animal, not the place for you. On the other hand, if you enjoy a safe, dry campus, it is the place for you. Chapel is mandatory and is 3 times a week and they are very hit-and-miss, you've been warned It is very easy to find community here. Don't let the rules cast a shadow on everything else great about this school. I'm in my third year and I love it!

    In three sentences

This school has a very unique atmoshpere: Christ-centered (Wesleyan if you want to be specific), beautiful, spacious, semi-strict rules, 3:1 girl-to-guy ratio, not much diversity. It has some great academic programs, especially nursing and Christian ministries. Very up-to-date facilities.

The dorm facilities are also great because each room has its own air conditioning unit and only four people share a bathroom.

    Academic Rigor

Academics are held at a very high standard here. It is expected that students take their learning as their own responsibility. With the numerous different majors, students can truly excel in pursuing their passions.

    In three sentences

Indiana Wesleyan University is a fantastic place to grow academically, socially and most importantly, spiritually. Christ is the ultimate center of the campus and all aspects of the college experience are focused around equipping the students to change the world for the better. With a powerful mixture of academics, community and prayer, students feel the presence of God and His love.

    Clubs and Activities

I wish there were more random clubs.

Great for these types of students

Those students who want strictly an academic and religious experience.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

We have chapel three times a week, this sounds like a lot, but it is a nice break from classes.

    Bang for the buck

Indiana Wesleyan would not be considered your typical college experience. They value education above everything else.

    What to do for fun

There are different clubs you can join, but involving yourself in the community is my personal favorite. There is many ways to improve the community while improving yourself at the same time.

    What to do for fun

There are a lot of activities that are planned by SAC. There is also a movie theatre on campus. There isn't a whole lot to do in Marion.

    Food and Dining

There are two options for meals. Baldwin and Wildcat. Baldwin is buffet style. Wildcat includes Chick-Fil-A, Marios (bad pizza), Sub Station, Burger Station, Mexican and Chinese. There is also the college store which is kind of like a the inside of the gas station. There is McConn which is like Starbucks but a little better. If you come you HAVE to get an Avalanche it is the best thing you will ever have.

    Dorm Life

I love dorm life. The unit that you live in is really close and at IWU we make community a priority.

    Academic Rigor

Depending on what major you pick, affects how challenging the work is. I am a Bio Pre-Med major, so I have a very busy schedule. I am also in the Honors College and have a Spanish Minor.......so if you don't want to lose your mind take it one step at a time.

    Tips for prospective students

Do not be afraid to ask for help, especially from professors that is what you are paying them for.

    In three sentences

I love attending IWU! I have grown both intellectually and spiritually. I am glad I choose to come to IWU.

One cool tradition on campus is bonfires at the presidents house which are held each semester. Also each semester there is a dinner celebrating the birthdays of the students during that semester. Lastly IWU has a society of World Changers that is inducted every year to honor them for what they have accomlished.

    Bang for the buck

IWU is fairly expensive, hence the filling out of scholarships, but there is no other place id rather go.

its a pretty safe campus and they will annoy you to death with signing in and out of buildings which if they are that worried about it then why dont they have security in the buildings instead of giving parking tickets. a student asking you to sign in and out isnt really security. but over all i felt safe at this college.

Great for these types of students

    lots of chapel

    Bang for the buck

SUPER expensive, I had to take out extra private loans to afford it. if i had to do it over again i would have chosen another school!

    What to do for fun

you have no time for fun, its always chapel and classes every day! it is not commuter friendly either. if you live on campus you can annoy everyone with your tennis golf and disc golf.

    Food and Dining

Baldwin is for students only living on campus but I went with another student once and it was decent food but the lines are long.

    Academic Rigor

very difficult and very few professors are willing to help, basically teach yourself or go to tutoring which is a joke, for how expensive this school is there academic student success center is just pathetic. not to mention you always see students cheating, but profs turn the other way because of favortism

    Tips for prospective students

Pick another college, you wont regret it!

    In three sentences

Expensive, No one will help you when you need it, If your a transfer or adult student then forget it, no one helps you or tells you the rules, they just punish you when your struggling in course work. Professors in nursing department definitely play favorites. They CLAIM to be christian but they do not act that way. There is no helping hands, just stone throwers.

    Campus Safety

Overall, I feel really safe here. A lot of people just leave their stuff out or don't even lock their door because there is very little theft. At night girls in general should not walk all the way across campus alone (there have been a few incidents), but you can always walk through the student center between sides of campus.

Great for these types of students

Great for anyone seeking to deepen their relationship with God and build strong, genuine friendships.

    What to do for fun

Hang out at McConn, the coffee place on campus. You will get to see lots of people, listen to some music, and maybe even get a seat next to the fireplace. Also, you can watch movies in our movie theater for a decent price! Lastly, the school puts on a lot of great concerts and plays. Go see some of them! The students who are in them will appreciate your support, and you will likely enjoy yourself as well.

    Food and Dining

There are a lot of options (including a sit down cafeteria and several take-out options), and even though the cafeteria recycles menus, they do a pretty good job of mixing them up. Some days the food is better than others, but in general you can find something that tastes pretty good. Also, there is a nice salad bar and some gluten free stations if you are concerned about your diet.

    Dorm Life

There are a lot of nice people who want to get to know you, and the resident advisors who are in charge of the different units are usually great people! On a side note, none of the dorms have communal bathrooms, so you only share a bathroom with four people at the most.

    Academic Rigor

The school is not in any way Ivy League, but you are definitely challenged here. If you want a little extra challenge, join the John Wesley Honors College. It covers most of your general education credits, but it also forces you to do a lot of writing and thinking.

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely study, but do not spend all your time in your room. There is usually some kind of activity on the weekends, and there are lots of great people to do things with. Do not pull an all-nighter! You will be miserable the next day. Get a least a little bit of sleep every night, even if its only a few hours.

    In three sentences

IWU is a fantastic place to be if you desire spiritual growth, smaller classes, and deep relationships. I have met so many genuine people here who really want to get to know you. Definitely consider IWU if you are looking for a place with strong academics and relationships.

    Bang for the buck

In my opinion, it is a little pricey especially for online. Classes are from 700-800 dollars. We do have instructors but they grade our work and help us in directing some of our discussion on our discussion board. I think with being online it could come down a little in price.

The classes are five weeks each. So, within that five weeks you will have a lot of assignments to complete. If you space it out correctly, it will not be overwhelming.

    Tips for prospective students

If attending online, be ready to be committed. You have the ability to work at your own pace but there are set deadlines for each class. You will be giving up a few hours each week from normal activities you did before, but it is really worth it.

I am an adult professional student. The online classes they offer are great for my busy work schedule. I can work during the day and study for classes in the evening.

    Academic Rigor

Academic programs are well-rounded, but contain unnecessary courses that will not transfer to other institutions and the final 30 credits must inconveniently be through IWU.

    Tips for prospective students

Only attend this institution if you yourself are unyieldingly Christ-centered and can afford the ridiculous cost.

    In three sentences

IWU is an extremely religious institution. Students are dictated to behave according to IWU's idealized conservative beliefs, which they personally may not believe in. IWU is extremely focused on diversity so much that it creates racism due to the distinguishable favoritism towards minorities.
