Great for these types of students

If you love the city but just don't want to be in busy Manhattan all the time trying to find your way around, then this school is right for you, because it is only a short train ride into all the excitement of the city that never sleeps

    Tips for prospective students

Iona is a good school for you if you like a small campus and want to be at a school where you will learn a lot for the amount of money you are paying.

    Bang for the buck

This College is expensive, however it is worth the money for what you recieve out of it. There are always things going on around campus everyday of the week

    Am enjoying being here

You have to like a city area. It's a 15 minute train ride into Manhattan.

    Am learning a lot

Small classes so it makes it easier to learn. Professors are always willing to help.

Great for these types of students

Anyone who likes a small scale school, who enjoy small classes with teachers who can really help.

    Tips for prospective students

If you do come to Iona start signing up for clubs and events around campus. Get involved and get to know a lot of people. This is a very small campus and you're bound to find the group of people you enjoy hanging out with.

    Bang for the buck

Iona is quite expensive, but they offer plenty of financial aid for students.

    Am enjoying being here

There are plenty of activities in which you may get involved in. For example this Catholic school has a Baptist Society even!

    Am learning a lot

Iona has a lot of good professors that really know their stuff. Most of the professors here actually are involved in their area of expertise.

Great for these types of students

Students who are happy to stay in at night and sit around, or can pay to go into the city for fun. Most of the social scene revolves around partying in the city Thursday through Sunday or staying in and partying in the dorms. Commuter students won't run into this problem, but residents will. Academically, students who are looking to just skate by and get a bachelor's degree will be fine here, although I have heard that the Teaching degree program is pretty good here.

    Tips for prospective students

Visit the campus a few times, and try to stay overnight and attend a class at least once. Decide if you like the area around you, and can stand living there even if you can't go home every weekend.

    Bang for the buck

So far, the financial aid was very competitive with other schools like Iona, so it's not that much of a waste of money. It really depends on your program of study, but the honors program gives you six free credits per year, so take advantage of that. Most of the facilities are modern, except for the freshman dorms. Technology is up to date, but the wireless signal can be weak at times.

    Am enjoying being here

Not much of a social scene here, although the Inter-Residence Council is working on that. Most of the campus is made up of local commuter students, and almost everyone goes home on the weekends.

    Am learning a lot

The Intro level courses are very easy and although they require good writing skills, it is very easy to follow the class without reading the textbook material. Most of the classes are lecture-based, but go in-depth into the topics as well. The college also tries to limit the amount of homework so students don't spend all their time studying in their dorms.

Great for these types of students

If your an education major, love sports or just love to be in a friendly environment Iona is the college for you.

    Tips for prospective students

Always stay on top of your work and never leave things for the last minute. Also, take advantage of the faculty and sources around you.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition is expensive but I would never have let that stop me from going to Iona College.

    Am enjoying being here

As a commuter there are many activites to get involved and stay involoved with the Iona community. I spent majority of my time here than at home.

    Am learning a lot

Iona has amazing professors who know the material that they are teaching extremely well and make learning easy and enjoyable.

Great for these types of students

Learners who want to learn and make something of there self.

    Tips for prospective students

Be ready and willing to take on a new way of thinking by motivated faculty and administration. It is a place to reach for the stars.

    Bang for the buck

This is not a cheap school, but sometimes one has to realize that figures can not always be a major factor. If you want to go to a school where you are going to be forced to learn and improve your own abilities, then Iona is perfect.

    Did enjoy being here

This school was great because I was able to get to Manhattan within 15-20 minutes on the train and everything was so accessible. It was not about having a party every week, but merely how to function as a community. Community is a big thing for this school which makes it feel like a home away from home.

    Did learn a lot

As a alumi student, I feel that the college provides the essential tools neccessary for a student to be successful on and outside of school. The teaching strategies are wonderful and cause a learn to become critical thinkers

Great for these types of students

It's good for those who want to be a big fish in a small crowd. It's a small campus, but their are many opportunities to stand out and take charge.

    Tips for prospective students

Pick the school that's right for you. It's a big decision, but have fun with it!

    Bang for the buck

Anyone can make it worth their while if you take what you put into it. If you don't put anything into it, than you probably wont take what you want. However if you do what needs to get done, you will have many opportunities to have a great time and make it your most memorable years!

    Am enjoying being here

I love being here. I only live 15 minutes away, but I live in the dorms and get involved in everything. In the first couple of months here I turned Iona into more than just a school, I made it my home.

    Am learning a lot

There are a wide variety of classes and generally multiple sections of classes. It is easy to cater your schedule t take classes that interest you along with a teacher that best fits you. You may end up with the one class with the one teacher you don't want to have, but such is the story of every college.

Great for these types of students

Anyone who wants to make something of themselves. This is an excellent school to go to. This is also good for students who want to be near the city, it is only a 40 minute train ride to the city! It is also a small school, so it is easy to make friends and take charge. There are activities all the time, and if you want to become someone big, that there are many opportunities to do so.

    Tips for prospective students

If you could, you should choose to dorm. Yeah, it may be expensive but it is something that all students should experience. The ability to dorm is a great way to meet many new students and create friendships. People can find other students who have the same major or have the same class and can help each other. It is definitely something to consider when choosing a college. And also, don't be afraid to approach a teacher if you need help. You will not look like someone who is stupid because we all have that worry. We worry about what people would think when they ask for help. It is not something to worry about. Students need help all the time and approaching a teacher will greatly benefit. The teachers will help you until you get the material or direct you towards a tutor to help you aswell.

    Bang for the buck

Although this school is expensive to attend, it is worth to spend the money. There are many food places on and off campus that the students can eat. There are places students can go for tutoring and the buildings are constantly being improved. The money is not going to waste on this campus. The faculty are constantly improving the quality of the campus for the students.

    Am enjoying being here

This school has a great atmosphere. The teachers, faculty and students are very nice. There are many events that occur on and off campus that students can attend. Most of the events are free or cost as much as 5 dollars.

    Am learning a lot

The teachers at this school are great. They are extremely helpful and will spend time with their students to provide help. The teachers know their material and answer the majority of the questions that students ask. The teachers do not want the students to fail so they willingly help. The classes are small, just like high school classes. So the teacher will have more time to focus on you.

    Campus Safety

Overall this is a safe campus. The dorms are especially safe and always asking for IDs. There is not usually any loud nosies or problems.

    Greek Life

There are many Sororities and Fraternities. This includes 2 national sororities and 1 national fraternity. This process takes place in the fall and in the spring and lasts about 5 weeks. Geek life is good if that is what you are into!

    Clubs and Activities

A wide range of activities. You get to meet new people and learn more. There are clubs for your major and for your interest.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Traditions include: Pipe band, Homecoming, Sporting events, St. Patrick's Day Parade, Thanksgiving Day Parade(New Rochelle).

    What to do for fun

There is always something to do. There are activities on campus going on. There is Greek Life. There is also SGA, Edmound Rice Society, the sporting events are great and fun. Homecoming. If you are not into that there is always time to watch movies with your friends or go to the local park and take a walk. There is a near by town where you can go to the movies, bowling, arcade and more.

    Food and Dining

The food is not bad. They recently opened up a new lounge where they sell food. There is salad, burgers, sushi. There is also a quiznos and Starbucks coffee. All of this is on the meal card. There are also outside food options. There is a diner, and other small local shops that are on the meal card. Applebees just recently got added to the meal card. A new place is Blackboard. They are a pizza shop who opened a few months ago and they have amazing pizza. Food is never a failure here.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is what you make it! If you put yourself out there then you will have a great year. The college usually does a questionnaire before you come to the school just to try and match you up with other roommates. This does not always work well but most time it is successful. Once you are settled in you get to hang out with friends and suite mates. Some floors become like a family and look out for one another. The RAs in the halls are easy going and strict. They are nice but if you are doing things you are not suppose to, you get written up. Overall if you are quite, you'll have a good dorm life.

    Academic Rigor

Academic wise this school is good. It is a college so the school's courses require hard work and a lot of studying. There are usually no surprises and the professors understand situations if you speak to them ahead of time. Again, it depends on the professor that is teaching the class.

    Tips for prospective students

Freshmen need to come with an open mind. You need to be willing to get to know others and join clubs. It is hard adjusting to college but it gets easier as the weeks go by.

    In three sentences

Iona is a small college which is good if that is what you are looking for. The small community allows you to get to know other students, even upper class men! Over all the school is great, educational wise and social life wise.

    Campus Safety

Iona has a very safe campus. There are security cars that rotate through out the campus constantly. Also we have blue lights which anyone can hit incase there is an emergency and students can talk to security through that.

    Greek Life

We have a big greek life at Iona. Most people that want to really get involved join greek life.

    Clubs and Activities

Majority of students are in clubs. It is definitely a great way to get involved and meet people.

    Bang for the buck

It is a private school so with that being said somewhat expensive. But they are good with giving academic scholarships to majority of the students. Also, with it being near the city definitely easier to get internships and jobs after graduation.

    What to do for fun

We are very close to the city, so a lot of people go there. Also, we have New Roc right down the road which has a movie theater, arcade, bowling, rides, etc. Also we are a division I school so sports are a big hit of going to watch as well.

    Food and Dining

The food is another plus. You have off campus and on campus food. Off campus is all the restaurants and delis and on campus there are a few cafeterias. You basically pay for what you get though. Guys sometimes have a hard time with this plan though.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is one of the best things about Iona. Freshmen live in suites of 5 or 6. There are two bedrooms and a bathroom and shower for each suite. Upper clansmen have the choice of living in on campus apartments of either 3,4, or 5 or they have the choice of living in suites of 7 or 10 people. Dorm life at Iona is definitely the best with not having community bathrooms.

    Academic Rigor

I think Iona is a reach school for many. It is definitely manageable though. A lot of outside of class work and preparation is definitely needed though.

    Tips for prospective students

You definitely want to try getting involved in as much clubs and activities that you possibly can. Be outgoing. Be yourself.

    In three sentences

Iona College has great academic programs. The campus is very well kept up. The education makes students actually work really hard to attain their grades.

Spellman and Lapenta have good food! I always go there with some friends of mine. And they have great couches if you want to take an hour nap there.

    Bang for the buck

Iona is very expensive but trust me it will be worth it.

    What to do for fun

I like the most to do for fun is to hangout with my friends at New Roc City. New Roc is a place like 15 minutes away from Iona and you can go bowling, to the movies, to play pool, laser tag etc. That place is great! They also have my favorite restaurant there, Applebees.

    Academic Rigor

College is college. It's nothing like High School. You have to study hard and always focus.

There are a ton of security guards on campus and in the neighborhood. They're all really friendly as well.

    What to do for fun

There are always a ton of events on campus including parties, variety shows, comedians, etc. The most important thing to do is to get involved in as many clubs and organizations as you can.

    Food and Dining

The meal plan is easy to understand. You are allotted a certain amount of dollars for inside and a certain amount for outside. Inside includes on campus facilities. Outside includes the restaurants in the area that participate in the meal plan. On campus food is decent. The food is a little over priced but you don't really pay attention to that until you start running low on money.

    Dorm Life

Loftus Hall: Suites of 5 or 6 with 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom South/Conese Halls: Suites of 7 or 10, 2 bathrooms, common area with kitchen Rice Hall: Single rooms, communal bathroom Walsh Hall: Triples or Quads with communal bathroom Eastchester Apartments: Range from 2 people to 5 people, 1 bathroom, kitchen, living room Marriott: 4 or 6 people, 1 bathroom, kitchen

    Tips for prospective students

Class attendance counts! Get involved in as many clubs/organizations as you can. Attend on campus events.

    What to do for fun

There are many clubs and activities to participate in on campus. A student can either join a club, organization, or varsity sports. There is always something to do on campus.

    Food and Dining

On campus dining is good and the off campus dining is very good too. Food is inexpensive and there is no tax for on campus food.

    Dorm Life

    Dorms are a decent size.

    Academic Rigor

This school has very good academics. The student to faculty ratio is 15:1 so the teacher gets to know all the students in the class. The teachers are always there to help their students.

    Tips for prospective students

Just keep your grades up and stay focused in your senior year. Also visit the college to make sure this is the school for you.

    Campus Safety

We're an open campus on a main street. Honestly if New Rochelle was a dangerous place I would be concerned but as it is there isn't a need for a lot of security.

    Greek Life

As a sorority member, all I have to say is I love our Greek life. The sororities and fraternities are extremely involved on campus and the negative stigma about Greek life literally can't be attached to the organizations at Iona college. I would recommend going Greek because it's not your typical Greek experience.

    Clubs and Activities

Every club has to host five events a year and there are so many ways to get involved. Club activities also keep you really busy and involved on campus.

Great for these types of students

Iona is good for students who like small schools and don't party too hard. While you can find them if you look for them, most students find their weekends lightly partying and studying for the rest. That's not to say you can't party here, but it isn't a school focused in that. Community-involved students would also enjoy Iona because we love to host charity events all the time.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Bagpipers! After a year of hearing them throughout campus I've come to enjoy them quite a lot! Also, Gael Guts is in the spring and I have yet to hear of another college who pits dorm halls against each other in this type of competition.

    Bang for the buck

Iona gives out really good scholarships, but if you're paying full tuition and your family is not that great income-wise I woulda ke sure that Iona really is the right place. It's a great school but it's also a serious financial investment.

    What to do for fun

Get involved. There is something to do almost every day on campus. Also, the city is only a train ride away so it's easy to go there. New Roc is also a close by area where you can see movies, play mini-golf, and go to an arcade. There are a lot of events happening all the time so it's easy to stay busy.

    Food and Dining

The on campus food is hit or miss, however te meal plan allows you to eat off campus at participating restaurants and that is suh a good part about Iona. Any leftover balance from fall also rolls over to spring so that's also a plus.

    Dorm Life

I absolutely love my roommate. We get along so well and our suitemates are also fun to be with. Our Resident Assistant is absolutely fantastic and I have no complaints whatsoever about living here because it's been such a great experience for me.

    Academic Rigor

If you have good teachers, the classes are enjoyable and going to them isn't a bother. However, some classes, like computer science or STL will usually be a challenge an you'll constantly be studying

    Tips for prospective students

The classes are usually about 20 students, so be prepared to pay attention! You have bathrooms in your five person suite, so remember to bring cleaning supplies. Most importantly, remember that college is what you make of it, so of you chose Iona put the effort in to experience what it has to offer.

    In three sentences

Iona college is completely immersed in its Irish-Catholic roots. From the bagpipers to the Celtic designs all over campus, Iona proudly displays its heritage. The college overall is so comfortable and unique one can't help but call it a second home.

Many catholic programs are open to other religious memorials.

    Bang for the buck

You certainly get what you pay for in technology and cleanliness. Everything is practically new.

    What to do for fun

The game room and athletic facilities provide a great deal of entertainment.

    Food and Dining

The chefs provide tasteful and healthy food options.

    Dorm Life

The halls are wonderfully spaced and allow for a great sense of community.

    Academic Rigor

In the biology program, it pays to work hard in the library.

    Tips for prospective students

Be sure to attend as a resident, as it would be an ideal way to fully experience the college as a whole.

    Campus Safety

The guards let pretty much anyone walk in, so it's kind of scary at times. Plus New Rochelle isn't that safe of a neighborhood.

    Greek Life

Definitely a presence, but not everyone is involved.

Great for these types of students

People who like to party and have fun.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The Gael Gardens are practically unheard of - they sit behind the dining facility and actually dining gets some greens and vegetables from that garden!

    Bang for the buck

If you pay more than half the full price for Iona, you are paying way too much.

    What to do for fun

Go into the city at least once a month. You have to take advantage of the location of the campus.

    Food and Dining

The meal plan at Iona is awesome. You get a certain amount for on-campus foods, which can be pretty good at times with a nice variety. And you also get just less than half of your total allowance for off-campus participating restaurants. This definitely comes in handy during a late night, early morning, or whenever you're craving real food.

    Dorm Life

The residence halls are one of the great facets of life at Iona. We really don't have regular dorm style living; most of our halls have suite-style rooms where you live with a group of people in a very comfortable setting. It's definitely a plus.

    Academic Rigor

Iona's academics is kind of a joke. Aside from the Honor's Program, most classes are ridiculously slow and not as rigorous as perhaps a college should be. This is higher level education, and it should be treated as such.

    Tips for prospective students

Absolutely get involved as much as you can. There are so many involvement opportunities, and you will feel left out if you aren't in at least one or two clubs. And try to get a job on campus or nearby; it will help manage your time while funding your education (or alcoholism).

    In three sentences

Iona has a pretty messed up administration. They will lie to you and do anything to protect the image of the school without protecting the students. The best thing about Iona is the fact that you will make so many close friends because it is a small campus.

    Campus Safety

Average campus safety. They drive around campus 24/7. During the day there is an open campus policy where anyone can walk onto and through the campus.

    Greek Life

There are frats and sororities, but they are not big at all.

    Clubs and Activities

There are options you just have to keep an eye out for something that sparks your interest.

Great for these types of students

    Commuters

    Bang for the buck

Very overpriced dorm costs and overpriced tuition.

    What to do for fun

You can go to the movies, go bowling, or play pool down at New Roc City, go into the city by train, or just go out to eat with friends. There are also a couple of bars on North Ave. as well.

    Food and Dining

The off campus dining is great, but is all overpriced which makes it easy to run out of off campus meal plan money. On campus the food is average, but there is only a snack bar, a quiznos, and a main dining hall (but that has bad hours and isn't open on the weekends). On campus is also very overpriced.

    Dorm Life

Typical dorm experience, but main freshman dorm isn't the cleanliest place.

    Academic Rigor

Very relaxed in the business school, not very pressing or difficult. As for the sciences, it's science and more difficult than business.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure that you enjoy the concept of going to a smaller school before attending.

    In three sentences

When I first started at Iona as a freshman I was very excited to get started, but I gradually became less and less excited as time went on. The campus is very small and the classes make it seem like you're still in high school. There is one real dining hall that doesn't have very good hours and you have to pay for each individual item leading students to run out of meal card money before the end of the semester.

    Food and Dining

Many on campus and off campus varieties.

    Dorm Life

    Excellent and clean.

    Academic Rigor

Everyone is aggressive and are always trying hard. The professors put you to the test but also keep the class simple.

    Tips for prospective students

Be proactive. Do not be shy because there is always someone willing to talk to you.

    In three sentences

Everyone is easy to get along with and willing to work with you. It is a not so big but also not so small college, which it makes it comfortable and easy to meet people and navigate around. Classes are small which makes it easier for you and your professor to work with each other.

    What to do for fun

For fun at Iona you could join one of the array of clubs the school hosts or join greek life. There's always something to do and the free shuttle takes you straight to New Roc City.

    Food and Dining

Iona's dining hall food is some of the best cuisine I've ever had, and its not too expensive. There's plenty of off campus restaurants that take the Iona meal plan. The best place to eat of build your own burger in Vitanza

    Dorm Life

Though I don't dorm, I've made friends that do. You'll love the dorm life as long as you don't live in Rice Hall because its lack of a/c

    Academic Rigor

The courses at Iona vary. You could either have a really hard or really class. I believe it depends on the professor.

    Tips for prospective students

Dorming at Iona is definitely recommended. I'm a commuter and regret daily not dorming and being able to meet more of my classmates.

    In three sentences

Iona College is a very good school built on historic principles. Though its technically a Catholic school anyone of any religion would enjoy it here. You meet a bunch of great people and get to be a Gael.
