Great for these types of students

If you want to learn, if you want to be in a relaxed environment, if you want to get personal attention from your professors, if you want to be in a place that cares about you and if you want to be happy with your academic and social life, go to Ithaca.

    Tips for prospective students

Get to know your professors, they want you to succeed and they will help you with everything. They really get to know you so take advantage of that. Visit in the winter, it gets cold and snowy. The first time I went up to Ithaca in February of 07 there was about 3 feet of snow (no lie) on the ground. Expect a lot of that! Its not as bad as everyone thinks. It snows in the morning and its warmer by the afternoon. Also, explore the town, its full of a lot of little surprises. Ithaca is all about community, if you like chill people, Ithaca is the school for you.

-Students who like the outdoors- there are lots of hiking trails and gorges to look at and explore -Music students- their music school is amazing - Undecided Students- Ithaca College has a great Exploratory Program where they guide you on classes to take and you are required to take a first year seminar which automatically gets you into a small classroom setting. -Any health major- The School of Health Science and Health Performance which I am a part of helps you plan for your future. They will aid you in getting internships and doing research.

    Tips for prospective students

If you want quiet, do not live in the Towers; the walls are paperthin Save your bonus bucks (snack money with your meal plan) you will want them by the end of the semester As I mentioned before introduce yourself and get to know your professors; they will be happy that you made the effort to get to know them. Study hard, but have fun too. Make sure to not lock yourself in your room all day; everyone is looking for a friend the first few weeks of college so get to know people.

    Bang for the buck

Ithaca College is an expensive school, no doubt about it. I am only able to afford it because of the amount of financial aid I received. They give out both merit scholarships and scholarships based on need. If I had to pay tuition with no help I do not think that Ithaca would be worth it just because the amount of debt would be unmanageable.

    Am enjoying being here

I have enjoyed Ithaca but I realize that there are still a lot of places that I need to explore. I have not yet been to the gorges in the area and have not explored the town nearly enough. The music school and the theatre department put on amazing performances (many of them free or at a low cost!). The weekends can turn dull but you can always ride the T-CAT (bus system) into town and find something to do with friends.

    Am learning a lot

The Professors at Ithaca College really care about their students and want you to succeed. For me, the most striking part was realizing that my Anatomy professor made the effort to get to know all 180 students by name and interests. Professors will respond to emails and will try to get to know you by name if you put in the effort to try to get to know them. I am not saying that every professor at Ithaca will try to get to know everyone in a 100 person class but if you go an introduce yourself they will know you and appreciate the gesture.

Are you creative, intelligent, friendly, unique, and want the chance to experience something new or be attend a school that makes you feel comfortable to be who you are? Then you are a Ithaca student. Everyone here is unique and friendly; its hard not to make friends. I know going away from home may be scary especially if you enter into college not knowing anybody, but attending Ithaca makes you feel right at home and makes the transition from high school to college really easy and pain free. If you want to the full college experience then you should be a Ithaca College student!

    Tips for prospective students

Ithaca is a great place to be and if you decide to attend that take advantage of all these great opportunities. Take a class that sounds any bit interesting to you, join a team or club if is about something you like to do, be part of the work study program if you are worried about money, go out and meet new people, and don't be afraid to ask your advisor or professors for help or advise about anything. You only have four years of college, make sure you use those four years well and live them to the fullest.

    Bang for the buck

Ithaca College offers a lot of financial aid to students. Most people that I have talked to this year have told me that they had received some sort of financial aid. I am one of the many who has received financial help. The tuition is very expensive, but the school is so worth it. Ithaca offers a lot of opportunities and is well known for their successful alumni who are always willing to help out a fellow Ithaca student. The school offers many internships and study abroad programs. The school also offers a lot of employment opportunities on campus for attending students. The work study program allows students to have paid jobs on campus while attending school. The jobs vary from working as a lifeguard by the pool to working in a office to working in the library. I have a job in the dining hall once a week. The school allows you to pick where you want to work and how many days you want to work. Everything about Ithaca is focused on the students' needs; the professors are all there to help students be successful and reach their fullest potential.

    Am enjoying being here

The second you step on to the campus you can feel the full college life. Ithaca offers so much socially and academically. The atmosphere on campus makes it hard to leave. Everyday is a new adventure. From the variety of clubs, sports teams, and social facilities makes it hard to ever be bored. Even when you step off campus there are many things to do. You can go to the town, which is just at the bottom of the hill, and eat at various restaurants or shop in several unique stores or just hang out in the commons. My friends and I usually go swimming in the gorges when its warm and head into the commons when its cold. During my spare time I usually either head to the gym, which has a great rock wall, or hang with my friends in the pub, which is an area inside campus center where you can just sit and hang with your friends while listening to music or grab a bite to eat from any of the three mini restaurants. I love especially my dorm building, Terrace 13, which is new this year. My dorm is great because everyone on my floor is so close and everyone's room has a air conditioner and heater that you can control yourself. I have never had a dull moment at school.

    Am learning a lot

Ithaca College offers many opportunities to pursue any subject that you may desire to study. You can be a communication major and still have the chance to take art history or any other class that may catch your eye. As a cinema major, I have taken several film classes already that offer a variety of information on film techniques, directors' styles, and using actually film equipment. Ithaca does not require any general studies classes while attending, except for a semester of academic writing which helped me out a lot, but instead offers a wide range of classes that you may choose to take. At Ithaca you feel as if you have limitless options when it comes to your academic life. Ithaca does not bound you to any specific subject but instead encourages you to try new things and study something outside your major. You even have the opportunity to take classes at Cornell College or in any study abroad program. I know I'm already planning on studying in London, England during my junior year.

Students that are seeking an open-minded and creative school to express themselves should pursue Ithaca. Also, students that want a comfortable and stress-free environment will love Ithaca. Music, theater, communications, and business majors will especially fit in because of Ithaca's great reputation in these areas.

    Tips for prospective students

If I could give prospective students some simple advice, I would tell them to focus on school and plan your time wisely but also have fun. Make sure you love your major and if not become and exploratory major so that you can easily determine what you are good at. Also, always plan ahead and try to stay organized. Take advantage of the tools, professors, and other students that the school has provided to help you.

    Bang for the buck

Ithaca's tuiton is reasonable as it's programs are very well-known and credible, especially its communications program. The school also has a wide variety of student help organizations that help students find jobs, internships, and also help with academics.

    Am enjoying being here

Ithaca College provides a diverse student body and a variety of programs to orient freshman comfortably. The school is very friendly and active, holding a variety of festivals throughout the year. The nearby town is also very active and includes Cornell University.

    Am learning a lot

The professors at Ithaca College are devoted and are always willing to help students. As a sophomore I have learned more than I have ever imagined in my freshman year. As a cinema and photography major I have already made two short films and used bolex film cameras.

Great for these types of students

Ithaca is great for students with diverse backgrounds, including in relation to religion, sexual orientation, and ethnicity. IC is very accepting of these types of students. People who like the outdoors will also love Ithaca. In addition, students looking into music, theatre, communications, and health science will love the programs that IC has in place.

    Tips for prospective students

Ithaca is in upstate New York, so snow will definitely happen. Although there will not be as much lake-effect snow as Buffalo, I still suggest investing in a good pair of boots, a boot tray for your dorm, gloves, and a good winter coat. Even if you are not sure of your major, becoming an Exploratory student (or Undecided) can help you explore your interests while still taking advantage of Ithaca's resources and opportunities. When selecting dorms, apply for the First Year Program or the other learning environments. This way, you can meet people that are also incoming freshmen or have the same interests as you do. Read the emails that come to you about campus events. The bulletin boards also have upcoming events and opportunities posted on them. I am always surprised when I tell a friend about an event and they had no idea about it and are left wishing they could have gone.

    Bang for the buck

Ithaca offers the top-notch programs in each of its schools and disciplines. Job placement is also very high after graduation and many students also go on to graduate school. The price is high as it is a private school, but IC offers many resources and opportunities for students, including the Fitness Center, the new Athletic and Events Center that will be completed by 2011, and the library. Also, the college offers the chance for students to work on campus.

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy the atmosphere that is Ithaca College. Everyone is so open and willing to make friends. There is always something to do and many of the events are free or offered at a cheap price, including the concerts and recitals in the music school, the plays and musicals presented by the theatre program, the sporting events, and events sponsored by the many campus organizations and clubs. Ithaca College also has Academic Support services, the Office of Student Engagement and Multicultural Affairs for all students (including minority and LGBT students), and the Career Services for resume review and internship and job placement. Ithaca is definitely very accepting of LGBT students, students of different religions (Muller Chapel is right on campus and hosts religious services each week), and students with dietary needs. The Commons in downtown Ithaca offer restaurants and eclectic stores that will not be found anywhere else. Cornell University, a short bus ride across the hill, also offers events to IC students. For people who enjoy the outdoors, Ithaca is surrounded by Cayuga Lake, beautiful gorges, and many other parks and trails.

    Am learning a lot

As a music major, my knowledge of music has grown exponentially. After my first semester, I have so much more knowledge on musical styles and forms, keyboard, my instrument (clarinet), and theory. Already, I have performed in a quartet and in my studio's repertoire class as well as in 3 concerts in a major ensemble for just music majors. Outside of music, I have had the opportunity to take classes in all disciplines to fulfill my non-music credits. The academics can be rigorous at times, but professors give you so many opportunities to expand on and apply what you learned in class. Professors also offer their emails, office hours, and phone numbers so students can keep in contact and receive extra help if they need it.

For students that really want to get away and experience a new setting from home. you are litterally isolated on a mountain and there is no quick way of getting home unless you live in the area. You also have to love snow and not be afraid to be cold.

    Tips for prospective students

visit the school during the winter. Though it doesn't sound ideal you dont' know the type of weather you're getting into until you experience it for yourself. Not to mention winter takes up about 70% of the weather that you will be experiencing while you are living on campus.

    Bang for the buck

Here is my biggest problem with the school, this year (2009-2010) the school overenrolled about 25% more students then the school could accomidate for. All of the lounges were turned into bedroom so there is no where to just hang out or meet people on campus. And honestly there isn't much to do on campus, there are a few clubs you could join but There aren't that many to choose from.

    Am enjoying being here

The location is beautiful, but I have a problem with it being isolated on a mountain and nowhere near any major cities. Sure its in Ithaca but there really isn't that much there to do. I find myself being bored a fair amount of the time.

    Am learning a lot

The professors are great about teaching the required material, there are a fair amount of different classes to choose from to help figure out what you'll want to do in the future.

I see really creative and just down to earth people around here. People seem to have dimension and character, rather than the flat personalities I knew from other places.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't let the weather get you down! It's beautiful, and truly, there's a crowd for everyone. Talk to the students! They know so much, and they're enthusiastic... they'll let you know what's going on, what classes to take, where to live, anything.

    Bang for the buck

I think they should give a little more money out to make it more affordable.

Music, communications, physical therapy, occupational therapy, theater

    Tips for prospective students

Take advantage of all that Ithaca College has to offer. Take classes you enjoy, study, and have fun. Get involved. Also study abroad if you can.

    Bang for the buck

It is slightly expensive, but it is worth it. Ithaca offers so many opportunities, great teachers and classes, and a great environment. Plus, the financial aid office is likely to help out with decent aid packages.

    Am enjoying being here

Everyone in Ithaca is nice. It didn't take too long to make some good friends and everyone is very welcoming.

    Am learning a lot

I am learning more and succeeding more than I thought I ever could. I get hands and personal instruction from my professors; it is an opportunity that not many other colleges offer.

Anyone can fit in at Ithaca College. However, I have noticed that students who know how to balance their social life with their academic life do the best. Ithaca has rigorous programs, but you have to commit yourself to the program. You will have to do lots of work and lots will be expected of you.

    Tips for prospective students

Like any college application, put a lot of love and care into it. Show that you are sincerely interested in what they have to offer. Be sure to include all the little details... Ithaca is one of those colleges that will actually look at them.

    Bang for the buck

Ithaca College is a private school, so of course it is expensive. But it is totally worth the money. Teachers are so involved and want their students to succeed and there are so many clubs and organizations you have access to. There is also a new fitness center in the works, and, like the current one, it will be free to get in for students.

    Am enjoying being here

Everything you need is not far from Ithaca College. Downtown is only a short bus ride away. As far as being on campus, there are so many wonderful services here that many colleges don't offer to the extent Ithaca does (my personal favorite is the LGBT center where there is a full-time staff employee there to help organize events and be a resource for LGBT students).

    Am learning a lot

The professors here really know their stuff. They sincerely want you to learn your material and are always willing to meet with you after class to help hash out problems you are having. I've only been here for one semester but I've gotten help from several teachers outside of class and have done much better in class because of it.

Ithaca College is great for all kinds of people. Ithaca is both rural and city like because of the hill we are on and the town of Ithaca. The workload isnt super hard but its not super easy either so I feel like its the perfect balance. If you love the cold, IC is perfect because it is cold 85% of the year. This school has a great music, drama and physical therapy program. Those are the three majors most people come for but dont get me wrong, the other majors are great too. Overall, this school is great!!! Check us out!

    Tips for prospective students

The town of Ithaca is a legit collegetown which means everyone should explore it especially the Commons. It is a great place to shop and eat. The parties are good here too especially at Cornell but remember if you stay out late, there are vey few busses that will bring you back to IC. The taxi service is wicked expensive too. One thing I wish someone told me is how quickly winter comes. So bring a heavy jacket after fall break. Trust me, you are going to need it. Cortaca is the biggest little game in America. Seriously. If you dont go to any other football game, go to this one. Visit Ithaca College before you start, I guarantee you will make your decision in a snap.

    Bang for the buck

I think it is worth the money because of the reputation Ithaca College has on the workplace. Also the Career Center has great resources for Internships and the like. So many kids who have graduated from IC have gone to do great things and have worked at top companies. I know that a college with that kind of history, is a great college to go to no matter the cost. It will be worth it in the long run. I know that I will have alot of loans to pay off but I am sure it will work out.

    Am enjoying being here

The weather could be alot better but the atmosphere and the accpetence I feel here is amazing! Every one is friendly and helpful. The view is gorgeous! So everyone should definitely get a Ithaca is Gorges because it is so true. The gorges are great and as a right of passage one must go gorge jumping. Although, I do have to warn you, the waters kinda cold even in September.

    Am learning a lot

Once took a class called Intro to Communication Disorders for fun. Turned out to be a really hard class but I learned so much. There are so many classes people can take that have nothing to do with your major. It can just be something that intrests you and you get credit for it. How great is that?! I am a Writing major and enjoy the writing classes we have. So many different areas. We have creative, feature, sports and grant writing. I personally am a creative writer and I love being able to write about whatever I want and it doesnt matter how weird it sounds.

Great for these types of students

Ithaca is rated one of the best schools for LGBTQAA students, so if that is a factor, Ithaca is a great choice. Most staff and students are extremely accepting of LGBTQAA students and we even have a residential learning area specifically for LGBTQAA students who wish to live there. IC is also really great for music students (#1 in the US for music education and in the top 10 for performance) and theater students. Students interested in Business would do really well here because our Business School is one of the top in the nation and there are tons of professional opportunities available to them. Also, the PT and OT program are ranked some of the best in the nation. Basically, students who enjoy a well-rounded education (outside and inside the classroom) would do well here. Those focused solely on one specific area in life would not.

    Tips for prospective students

If you want a school that has a huge, diverse population, Ithaca may not be the best choice for you. Many (but definitely not all) students are from the East Coast of the US. The student population is around 6,500 undergrads I believe, so you can always meet someone new but still recognize most people you see on campus. Though we're a liberal arts college, the educational quality is great and IC prepares you exceptionally well for your future career.

    Bang for the buck

Ithaca is extremely expensive and most are shocked at the price at first glance. Though it is very high, Ithaca is usually good about finding scholarships for students or finding other ways to fund their education. Ithaca is also great in that they admit to not having every class that more research-oriented students might want, so they have an exchange agreement with Cornell University in which we can take classes there (up to 12 credits) and they can take classes here.

    Am enjoying being here

I love the IC campus. There is a healthy mix of liberal college students for which the city of Ithaca is known for, but there are also plenty of more conservative, business-oriented students and athletes for many sports. People at IC are on the whole very welcoming; this includes the professors and students as well as professional staff members. The town itself is amazing because it feels metropolitan yet is also on the small side for college towns. There is a huge amount of culture to be had both on-campus and off.

    Am learning a lot

The Ithaca College faculty members are really knowledgeable about each of their respective fields and have no difficulty sharing this with students. Most have a Ph.D. in their field and have professional experience outside of the classroom which they incorporate into lessons. Students are given the ability to put forth feedback on their professors, so even if there was an issue with teaching students would be able to address this. There are tons of extra-curricular activities available on the IC campus, from a Quidditch club to a Gay Rights activism group, therefore enabling learning outside of the classroom as well. There is always a theater show or concert going on every night of the week (literally every night) so students find it hard to be bored.

    Campus Safety

Ithaca College is a campus on which I feel extremely safe.

    Greek Life

There is no official Greek Life at Ithaca, however, we do have a small handful of either 'underground' or academic Greek groups. Cornell, nearby, offers Greek Life, however, due to recent issues, they have been stricter about allowing IC students into their parties.

    Clubs and Activities

Ithaca is D3. There are various activities and clubs and intramural sport options. Check it out by attending the fair held at the beginning of each semester.

    What to do for fun

Many students like to party in there free time. Bars in the commons are a typical hot spot, and can be pretty fun. Freshmen attempt to get into Cornell frats and, of course, Circle Apartment parties-- which typically are overcrowded, lacking alcohol, and busted by midnight by campus police. Many house parties get busted early as well, however, these can be fun if you attend the right one. When is it nice out, students can be found throughout Ithaca, hiking, gorge-jumping, or walking the commons. There are many great restaurants to try. Ithaca offers intramural sports and different on-campus activities and groups which can be fun. There are many local bands and small artists who visit Ithaca, and a few bigger names (they tend to get booked at Cornell). Students can shop at the mall, but it's pretty small, and nothing special. The gym at Ithaca is a great amenity.

    Food and Dining

There is ample choice for dining hall food, however, dining hall food IS dining hall food. All dining halls have special diet menus available. One dining hall has a kosher kitchen, one has an Organic choice section, and another has a Vegan section. There are healthy and unhealthy options-- you do the picking.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are alright. There are great on-campus apartment options, The Circle Apartments and The Garden Apartments. Housing is currently undergoing many changes to accommodate larger class sizes and create a stronger freshmen experience.

    Academic Rigor

This really depends upon your program. Some classes are hard, and some are not. If you attend class, do your work, and reach out to your professors, Ithaca College is certainly not a school you need to consider 'jumping off bridges' at, due to class-related stress. However, it is a private school with some highly ranked programs, and thus, will not be a 'cake-walk' by any means.

    In three sentences

Ithaca College is located in a small, idyllic college 'city' in upstate New York. The ambiance is certainly that of a hippie alternative town, full of young, forward thinkers, and the college follows suit. My major draw was the Roy H. Park of Communications, which is certainly a highlight for IC.

Great for these types of students

Students who have great talent they want to perfect, like writing or playing an instrument. Also students who want an open, active, liberal environment to use their skills to change the world.

    Tips for prospective students

Tour all of the different dorms to see what is right for you, because the Lower Quad dorms are completely different from the Towers. Also, make sure to see the downtown area or explore the famous waterfalls and gorges with your family to get a feel for the surroundings.

    Bang for the buck

The college gives out great scholarships and provides numerous opportunities for students to get ahead. This includes frequent, sought-after speakers, many on-campus events and concerts, and great internships to L.A, NYC, and abroad.

    Am enjoying being here

Ithaca over-accepted in 2009 but the staff and faculty work non-stop to accommodate and entertain the extra people. I love the diverse campus where film students, music majors, drama and journalism kids can all be best friends and learn from each other. Downtown Ithaca is also a perfect place for college kids to shop, eat, and explore, while still feeling the close-knit community.

    Am learning a lot

The professors are all extremely helpful and aim to teach you the most they can. Many professors strive to give us the education we are paying for. Along with interesting, intimate classes, you will learn a lot from the variety of clubs, extracurriculars and sports offered (Girl's Rugby!).

Great for these types of students

Ithaca has many accredited programs that offer a better education for undergraduate students. Some of these programs being Biology, Speech Pathology and Theatre. students who do not know what they want to major in should come to Ithaca because they offer a wide variety of courses that can help students. However, students who just want to be better or want to learn more about life in general should come to Ithaca. It is a great experience for people who want to learn and are open minded or just curious about anything from music to other cultures.

    Tips for prospective students

Look for a school that offers a great comprehensive program for your major or if you undecided, a school that offers a comprehensive program that helps students to get a wide variety of course that will help them choose a major. Also, look for a school that has a strong base in the community and that offers a balance of academics and amusement. Students should visit a school to actually see the campus and it layout and this way they can see and hear about all of the services offered at the school and they can talk to current students who can help answer and questions that may be had. Ithaca does and has all of these things.

    Bang for the buck

Although, Ithaca is a little more on the expensive side, it really is worth it. The education you get here rivals that of an Ivy league school. The programs and education here really are life changing. Teachers here actually care about you so you don't have to worry about being just another face. The purpose of this college is to help you succeed and they will help you reach your goals.

    Am enjoying being here

There are so many unique clubs on campus so it is hard to choose which ones to join. They have a red cross club and a club for almost all majors on campus. The commons are within walking distance and the mall is a short bus ride away. If one needs to be entertained. Even with all of these things that happen off campus there are many more that happen on campus. There are theatre productions that students can see. There is an organization on campus who's main objective is to entertain students. They bring in comedians and they all run movies that a free or cheap for students. They also put on themed events like Urban Cowboy ,which included a mechanical bull, for students to just unwind, relax, have fun with friends, and meet new people. The Ra's on each floor of the resident halls also run events for students throughout the year so there are many things to do here.

    Am learning a lot

Ithaca College has a number of services and staff on campus to aid in the learning process. On top of that they offer many opportunities for students to get involved in the community and Tompkins county. This helps the students learn learn more information in general about various subjects but also about themselves and other people. Ithaca has a diverse and open-minded population that helps bring awareness to problems, like plumpy nut, that many people in everyday life would not normally know about. This helps make the students more aware of the world, how they affect it, and what they can do to change it.

Great for these types of students

Well of course the communications and music schools are fantastic here but really I would recommend Ithaca to anyone who really wants to get involved in their school. Since IC is pretty small it really is more like a community than a huge city full of college kids.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved in your classes!! Professors love it if you talk in class and come to their office hours. Don't be afraid of appearing nerdy, the extra effort on your part will definitely help you down the road.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition is very pricey here and although the staff and facilities are very nice, it still seems a bit of a steep cost. However, financial aid is friendly and very helpful in finding out ways to cover tuition if your aid package comes back less than you expected.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus and the surrounding area is beautiful and the city of Ithaca is awesome (lots of cool restaurants and shopping to do.. if you have money which tends to be rare). Getting into town is sometimes tricky because the TCAT is never on time and breaks down a lot and Ithaca doesn't currently have a student shuttle into town (so you have to pay). On campus there isn't a whole lot to do on the weekends, other than the occasional After Dark event but even those do not provide much more than a half hour of entertainment.

    Am learning a lot

All of my classes have been hands on from day one. The professors really like to get students involved and create a good student-teacher bond. I have had professors who go out of their way to meet you (my professors have even come to meet me in the lounge in my dorm!) to help me out with a project or go over information for a test.

Great for these types of students

Anyone who is willing to learn new things. Creative students who really want to get involved in their school and meet new people. Ithaca is one of the more diverse schools that I've seen and they are so open and caring about their students.

    Tips for prospective students

I know this is generic advice, but get involved with as much as you can. There is so much to do and see around Ithaca and over 200 clubs and activities that allow you to experience that. Ithaca has pretty unpredictable weather. Since I've been there, there has been snow is September and sun in January. You really want to make sure you're prepared for those days when its 30 degrees and raining and then suddenly its 50 degrees and sunny. There is so much to get involved in, not only the school, but the town itself. If you don't get work study, get a job off campus. I volunteer at an animal shelter only 15 minutes away from the school. There are so many festivals and events downtown, so make sure you don't spend all your time on campus. Don't be afraid to take a class you don't know anything about. I know nothing about computers but I am getting ready to take a 3D animation programming class next semester and I couldn't be more excited! Ithaca has so many different fields, it's impossible to not want to try them all.

    Bang for the buck

Being a private school, Ithaca is pretty expensive. Like most people, without financial aid, I wouldn't be able to attend this school. Luckily, Ithaca does give out a good amount of grants and loans to help students like me. But it is definitely worth it, with all the opportunities that Ithaca gives to students, not to mention the great reputation of its name that will follow you around, even after you leave the school. There is also a great work study program that gives students with need a job at one of the many locations of campus. I have worked in the dining hall which gives me a flexible schedule and the ability to pick up others people's shifts. There are also many jobs available in places like the library, game room, information desk, catering and event services. Ithaca wants to give all students the chance to experience the school and does a lot to help those who are more financially challenged. But with everything I have gotten to do inside Roy H Park School of Communications, the people and alumni I have been able to meet and the ability to travel to another country has definitely been worth it.

    Am enjoying being here

Although it is a long drive from home, it's worth it. I hardly ever feel bored with the collegetown feel of Ithaca and theres always something going on during the weekend such as concerts, shows and movies on campus. Getting downtown is pretty easy with the TCat buses which will also bring you to malls and stores like Target and Wal-Mart. Because the school is a little smaller, I found it a lot easier to meet people in my classes and dorms. There are also so many extracurricular activities to be a part of ranging from working on a television show for ICTV to raising money for cancer research. In the warm weather, most people will just head down for a hike and go to the gorges. Ithaca is a beautiful town and there are so many diverse opportunities for the students from both Ithaca and Cornell. Also, thanks to Ithaca College, I had the opportunity to study abroad in London for a semester. It was probably the best four months of my life and I met the most incredible people there and got to travel to places I never imagined I would get to go to. Ithaca has their own center in London and LA and I think that being in that small Ithaca community really helped when trying to ease into an entirely different environment. Not to mention, your financial aid and credits easily travel over!

    Am learning a lot

I came to this school knowing almost nothing about communications, but we dived right in and were using cameras within the first week of classes. The curriculum for classes inside and outside park is very hands on and I feel very confident, even in classes I didn't think I would do very well in. The professors are very open and willing to help and I have always felt that they see us as individual students with specific needs rather than just a class. Not to mention, you will have an advisor who knows you name and can actually help you. I have had many opportunities to take classes in a variety of different fields and am learning more than I ever though I would.

Great for these types of students

Music, music theater, communications programs are some of the top in the country.

    Tips for prospective students

Visit not only during spring or summer, but also in the winter. It's not as bad as I thought, but I'm from Connecticut and the only difference I found was that there was wind chill because of Lake Cayuga. For others, though, the sharp cold plus all the hills and stairs can be a deterring factor.

    Bang for the buck

Well, a recently upped $51,000 pricetag definitely isn't one of the cheapest colleges you can go to. I didn't get a lot of financial aid because of my grades, but they do have great programs such as the MLK and Park Scholar programs that offer up to full tuition. And if your grades ARE good, don't let the price scare you because they do have other scholarships that award good grades.

    Am enjoying being here

LOVE it. Going to other college campuses made me love my school more. It's manageable to get around, yet not TOO small (compared to Cornell that's up the hill and really should have it's own zip code). And it is absolutely beautiful!

    Am learning a lot

The music curriculum isn't one where if you mention to people I'm a music major their response will be along the lines of Oh, that's easy. Our schedule is packed with one, .5, and two credit classes, and when we're not at class, we're practicing or reviewing homework in McHenry or the Diva Lounge. After my freshman year, I feel like I've really become emersed on what it's like to learn nothing but music (okay, so I had a few non-music classes too). Keyboard, history (and you can't forget Styles with John White!), fundies+music theory, sightsinging, and more have all provided a comprehensive background for preparation for my sophomore year.

Great for these types of students

Ithaca admissions councilors really look for students who are involved in their community and school. Leaders are great, but we aren't all leaders in high school. People who care about their education and their community truly blossom at IC.

    Tips for prospective students

Come visit us! Once you see the campus and hear what the tour guide has to say, you just might fall in love like I did.

    Bang for the buck

There is not hiding it, Ithaca College is expensive but I believe it is really worth it. If you are someone that values a personal experience with interesting classes that really challenge you, than IC is worth the money.

    Am enjoying being here

Ithaca was my first choice, dream school and I cannot imagine myself any place else. The town itself has been made USA Todays list of Best College towns many times. There is always something do do, whether it is a Gingerbread making contest on campus or Applefest downtown.

    Am learning a lot

Ithaca College's Professors are some of the most personal and kind instructors I have encountered. The liberal arts atmosphere partnered with the small classes sizes (average 16) is the best learning environment I can imagine.

Great for these types of students

-People who don't mind a little cold or rain every so often. -People who love the outdoors (when they say Ithaca is gorges [horrible pun, I know] they're NOT kidding). -People who want to learn, and have fun doing it. -People who are willing to work for what they want.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't slack. Ithaca can be tons of fun, yeah, but if you don't put in the work to get the grade you want, you're not going to get it. You have to be willing to talk to people, I got really lucky making friends, because they were braver than me. I can't imagine what would have happened if they hadn't come to me first! But the people here are friendly, so you don't have to be afraid to approach them! Jump outside of the box! If you get outside of your comfort zone you'll be both surprised and infinitely pleased how many great things you can get into.

    Bang for the buck

Ithaca College comes with a hefty price tag, I know, and that can seem really scary. But (firstly) they're very willing to work with kids who need financial assistance, and if they can't find a way to give them with the money through scholarships, they're always willing to help you find information on loans and other types of aid. Even with the tuition Ithaca is definitely worth it. The variety of programs and classes, the quality of the professors and students, it's amazing. You get what you pay for, when it comes to Ithaca. You really do.

    Am enjoying being here

First off, let me say, that the area is absolutely beautiful. Granted, if you don't like the cold or rain it may not be the school for you--but don't let a little bad weather turn you off! People say it can get dull and repetitive sometimes (and, admittedly, it can), but your experience will be what you make of it. Just keep your eyes open! There are always activities going on, you just need to pay attention. There are bulletin boards up all over the place (Campus Center, the Dining Halls, Dorms, And even in the Academic buildings!), and they send out daily notices through email to let you know what's going on. The people are great too, I've made great friends.

    Am learning a lot

The professors here are excellent, and I haven't found a single one yet who isn't willing to work with a student in various ways to make sure they learn as much, and get the best grade that they possibly can. Not just that, but even the classes a person would expect to be boring (like calculus, yuck!) are great. If you're struggling with classes, and the professor can't seem to help you directly, there's also a bunch of ways to find tutors! The special thing about Ithaca is that the people here actually WANT you to succeed as much as you want to.

The t-cat bus will become your best form of transportation at a cheap cost. Ithaca College students have easy access to events that happen on Cornell's campus. You will love the class choices available to you at Ithaca College.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't procrastinate. Do your assignments on time, and if you need help in a subject, don't be afraid to ask for help. Balance your social and academic life. Get involved in clubs and organizations on campus. Get to know your professors personally...don't be afraid to drop by their office just to say HI. Be open and true to yourself. Get to know the people in your residence hall...after all you will be living with them for almost a year.

    Bang for the buck

No doubt, Ithaca College is really expensive. Tuition does go up almost every year, and for some it may be hard to pay off the steep cost. But the college offers MANY scholarships based on merit, financial need, or athletics. You can also pay off some of your tuition by getting a campus job, which the school has plenty of. As a Humanities and Sciences student, I find that it is worth to pay such a high price because as soon as I got into the school, I was offered many research opportunities that I wouldn't have gotten at any other school.

    Am enjoying being here

Besides activities provided on campus, there are a lot of things to do off campus. If you are a nature person, there are many trails that you can explore. The Commons also hosts a variety of events that may be of interest to some people. The college does a good job of making sure that there are a variety of events hosted on campus.

    Am learning a lot

Ithaca College offers a wide arrange of classes. Students also have the opportunity to design their own majors. Classes vary in sizes, but the professors try their best to get to personally know each of their students. The professors take their time to design a curriculum that will best suit the needs of each student.

    Campus Safety

There are public safety telephones located all over campus, you just have to look for the poles topped with blue lights. Campus Security is always driving around, as well as RAs that walk around and monitor dorms and the campus as a whole. All in all, IC is a very safe campus. It is one of those few places where you feel comfortable running at nighttime.

    Greek Life

It is a Division III school, so Greek Life is not huge. But there are a couple of music fraternities and sororities, one that I believe is even coed. There is also the opportunity to pledge at Cornell, which is located in the same town. A lot of my friends belong to a Jewish fraternity, AEPi.

    Clubs and Activities

There are a lot of clubs on campus. I participate in a few intramural sports. These are mostly coed, but not always. Being apart of the business school, I have also been introduced to clubs that are involved in international marketing, women in business, and other various groups. With each school on campus, there is something to do and bigger group to be apart of. There are also a lot of club sports, as well an an equestrian team.

Great for these types of students

Adventurous students will definitely benefit the most in Ithaca. The town itself is gorges. That being said, there are waterfalls and hiking trails that you really cannot beat. Cayuga Lake is visible from some parts of campus and is breathtaking. As soon as it gets warm out, you see students heading over to the lake or to go gorge jumping quite often.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

I would say my favorite tradition here at Ithaca would be the Cortaca. Since it is not a Division I school, athletics are not as closely followed as universities such as Duke or anything similar. But the Cortaca Jug is a televised football game that features us and Cortland. There is a huge rivalry there and it is honestly a great weekend and an interesting event to be apart of. It is often referred to as the biggest little game.

    Bang for the buck

The restaurants in town are tremendous. It is said that Ithaca actually has more restaurants per capita than NYC. This is pretty impressive considering Ithaca is not that large of a place. It is also College Town. With us, Cornell, and a community college in the area, there ends up being around 30,000 college students inhabiting this little town. This makes the weekends interesting to say the least. The greatest part would have to be the fact so many places stay open and deliver in order to accommodate for all of us. We also have to TCAT, which is a bus that helps make transportation easier. Lastly, there is an airport located in Ithaca, which is definitely convenient.

    What to do for fun

Going out to eat is never a bad call in Ithaca. The Commons, located downtown, is a neat place. There is always something going on down there, and it also houses all of these cute little shops and restaurants. Cayuga Lake is another favorite, especially during the fall and summer. Gorge jumping is something almost every Ithacan experiences, and it is definitely a one of a kind experience.

    Food and Dining

The dinning halls at IC are not my personal favorites, and I have been to a lot of college campuses. There are a few cafes and a convenience stores on campus and a little market place that are extremely tasty. As for the dining halls, although they are not the best, they do offer a lot of variety. There are a ton of vegan and vegetarian options, in my opinion, especially for a small college campus. Most people prefer the Terrace Dinning Hall. I would have to agree with them, and also state weekend brunch at Terrace's never disappoints.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is a plus here at Ithaca. It is a smaller school, so people tend to be pretty respectful. Public Safety is also very alert and seems to be on top of things. The dorms are overall very clean, plus laundry is included in tuition, so you never need to lug around any change! There is an all girls dorm, an honors dorm, coed dorms by floor, coed dorms by door, and freshman housing which really makes it easy to choose what will work best for you.

    Academic Rigor

There are definitely certain majors that appear to be harder than others, but overall I would argue college is challenging in general. As cliche as it sounds, it really is what you make of it. If you study hard and attend class, you may surprise yourself with how well you do. Attendance is not always mandatory, but it usually is. Most professors are pretty strict about the attendance policy, and honestly I find it beneficial when they are. They are also very fair about when an absence does occur. They are usually more fair if you are a good, participating, hard-working student. The best way to think about it is that you are paying for each class, so if you do not go, that is money you waste. One of the greatest parts about IC is the size. It is not so small where you see the same people everyday, but it is also not so big where there is a slim chance your professors will know your name. This makes it easier to get extra help and keep up with your classes.

    Tips for prospective students

    1) Develop good study habits if you have not already done so. It is very rare that one will do well on college exams if they have not studied. Notecards work best for me, but I am sure different strategies help different people more. 2) Pack clothes for each of the four seasons, especially winter. Winter is definitely the longest season here at Ithaca, but it can be beautiful. At the same time, when it is hot here, it is very warm. You really just have to be prepared for everything. 3) Be social. Making friends and knowing who you should study with and who you can have fun with is very important. Everyone gets homesick, no matter how far away from Ithaca you live. Meeting new people is one of the best parts about college. I am only a sophomore and I am already so close with the people I have met here. But I do have friends that I can be productive with, others I can have one with, and then some I can do/be both with. It is important to figure that out early on.

    In three sentences

    1) Ithaca is gorges. 2) For the most part, the people here are very openminded and outgoing. 3) Music is a large part of Ithaca College's history, and it is fascinating to witness some of the shows that are put on here.

Great for these types of students

Music, communications, television-radio, theatre, physical therapy, occupational therapy.

    Tips for prospective students

Study! But also don't forget to take a break once in a while. IC After Dark hosts a lot of late night events for free on campus, as well as other clubs and organizations, and they're not cheesy, either! :) Take a break to go to the Commons (especially during Applefest), or to see one of the school's productions in Dillingham. Also, don't download or torrent music/movies (they DO check!), and don't be an idiot. Campus police WILL get you in trouble if you are violating Code of Conduct, I mean it. So don't have anything in your room that you shouldn't have *ahem* and if you're going to have a party, don't be ridiculously loud.

    Bang for the buck

It is ridiculously expensive, but Ithaca does give out quite a bit of financial aid. If it weren't for the huge financial aid package I received, I wouldn't even be able to consider going here. It's well worth it, especially if you are looking at the music and communications programs, as well as the theatre and physical therapy ones.

    Am enjoying being here

For the most part, I love it at Ithaca. Sure, you sometimes have to put up with the drunken fools in the parking lots outside the dorms, but you get that every college. The professors are very accessible for further discussion or clarification, the clubs host TONS of events for the college, and the people are generally nice and easy to befriend and get along with.

    Am learning a lot

I've only been here one semester so far (transfer student), but I have to say that you really learn A LOT at IC. The professors are top-notch and know their stuff (as they should!). Meeting with professors during office hours also contributed towards learning a great deal about their academic subjects, so you can learn just as much outside of the classroom as you do in it.

You're going to love it here. Be prepare for lots of fun, studying and most importantly Snow and Cold!

    Tips for prospective students

You need to come with an open mind and heart. YES you WILL have fun, but just know this, when it's time to study. You do just that. At IC the biggest jocks will fool you. You're going to think they are slacking when they are not. These people will be taking care of their work and you will be fooled. So HAVE fun, but also do your work.

    Bang for the buck

Pretty pricey though. BUT THEY ARE NOT CHEAP! THEY WILL HELP YOU OUT!!!

    What to do for fun

This all depends on the person. If you are into playing music, many students and locals look for musicians to jam with! There are also shows to go to, clubs, and anything at all with your friends! The bars and night life in town is not so good though.

    Food and Dining

The campus food isn't actually that bad here. It's better than most campuses. There are a lot of options Also, the dining in town is great! If you can, try and get out to the restaurants in town.

    Dorm Life

This all depends on the friends you meet. I had a great time here, and felt like the socialization aspect of Ithaca was great. The actual dorms themselves leave something to be desired. Unless you live in Emerson, Garden/Circle Apartments, be prepared for disappointment.

    Academic Rigor

Depending on your major/classes taking this varies immensely. Some are easy, some you'll devote so much of your time to. Upper level science courses and production courses are great for learning! I was a photography and occupational therapy student.

    Tips for prospective students

Search around to many different types of schools. If you are set on coming here, or are curious attend classes specific to your intended major. See if you can spend the night in a dorm, try the cafeteria food, and tour the campus!

    In three sentences

Ithaca is a better school than most, in my opinion! It is good for health careers, music (classical), and the communications department. Don't come here if you don't like the cold!

There is not a Greek Life on the Ithaca College campus, though there is across town at Cornell.

Great for these types of students

I think that the curriculm is great for hands-on learners. I feel that most of what I have learned has engaged me in the learning, to promote greater knowledge.

    What to do for fun

One of the best ways to enjoy the area is to go to the gorges and take in the beauty all around. Though it is cliche that Ithaca is Gorges, the gorges are breath-taking and a wonderful place to visit. On campus, there are plenty of different co-curricular options including many sports and clubs.

    Food and Dining

There are a lot of options for food but they are not the healthiest or tastiest all the time.

    Dorm Life

There are a variety of different living arrangements on campus to choose from, but they are not the most luxurious dorms, unless you want to pay extra.

    Academic Rigor

Some classes are more difficult than others, but they all typically provide a challenge to help expand students' knowledge.

    Tips for prospective students

Get to know your professors because they are willing to help.

Not impossible to make your own club; some Cornell clubs offer membership to IC students

    Bang for the buck

There is free laundry, but the dorm rooms are small. The equipment renting service in the Park Communications school provides students with tools for creating projects for class. The labs, however, are only authorized to students who are in a class that require the technology within a certain lab.

    What to do for fun

You can go into town for shopping or an exotic dining experience.

    Food and Dining

There are organic options in one of the three dining halls on campus, and all three have salad bars.

    Dorm Life

Ithaca College has your average dorm rooms. On campus rooming includes doubles, singles, and few suites that are competitive to get into. Depending on the building, doubles and singles can be fairly small.

    Tips for prospective students

Prospective students should not only visit campus, but the town to see what there is to do off campus.

    Campus Safety

Relatively safe, I don't know of anyone who has had problems in this area.

    Greek Life

    There is none.

Great for these types of students

Ithaca claims to be great for students with diverse backgrounds, but I am found that to be rather untrue. The school is very accepting of different sexual orientations but I have found that relation to religion are not great to say the least and relations to different ethnicities are very strained.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The on-campus lake is gorgeous during the right season.

    Bang for the buck

The school greatly overcharges for the type of services and activities offered. The financial aid needs great improvement. If you go here you must definitely make it worth your wild academically, socially, professionally, culturally, and physically (yes I am talking about the gym, the school has free gym service which is actually quite nice.)

    What to do for fun

I would rate the school highly in fun activities. There are many on-campus activities that are free or low in price.

    Food and Dining

There is only one reasonably good dining hall. The non-dining hall food that is available is drastically overpriced.

    Dorm Life

There is a reasonably wide variety of housing options and the school is in a college town so there are a lot of off-campus housing available. The walls in many of the on-campus housing are very thin and the dorms echo so be very careful what you say. Also laundry service is free but try to avoid doing laundry on the weekends it get very crowded.

    Academic Rigor

The classes are okay. It really all depends on the professor. I know some people who have had trouble with professors in the biology major and business school.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are not a physical therapy major or in communications you should look into other schools. Business, drama and music majors do okay here. But art majors should DEFINITELY stay away. Undecided majors could do worse but the exploratory program is not as great as they say it is, trust me, you'll likely have to stay an extra year if you are not declared by sophomore year.

    In three sentences

I feel this school EXTREMELY over sells itself and its programs. Some of the programs and activities they pride themselves on are not as good as they are claimed to be or very frequently occur. The beauty of the school one may see during a tour only lasts for two nonconsecutive months and the town can be best described as quaint.

    Campus Safety

The campus is closely monitored by Public Safety. The Public Safety office is very involved as they hold drills during outdoor events and recruit students into the Student Auxiliary Safety Patrol (SASP). I know that as a student here, I feel safe walking around campus.

    Greek Life

There is no Greek Life... sorry! But our connection with Cornell allows students to join any groups over there.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many things for students to do on campus. If students are interested in poetry, feel free to join Spit That!, a spoken word organization that does workshops and hosts shows with artists from all over the country. Created Equal is an organization that advocates strongly for the civil rights belonging to the LGBTQ community (you do not have to be of the LGBTQ community to join). I would list them all but there truly are too many to name! Students are free to make their own clubs as long as they have 2 staff or faculty members to back them up.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

And old graduation tradition was to swim in the fountains in front of Dillingham. It hasn't been done in a while, but you didn't hear it from me!

    What to do for fun

There are about 170 clubs on campus of which any prospective student can find on IC Link. In another attempt to encourage sustainability, a new organization called FWD: Fun Without Drinking hosts many events as well as simply hang out in order to show students that succumbing to peer pressure isn't the only way to make friends. Students are free to go about the Commons and College Town, or even visit our sister school Cornell to join sororities or fraternities.

    Food and Dining

There are so many delicious options, however, the Terrace Dining Hall has the best food on campus. To continue the sustainability on campus, the Terrace Dining Hall hosts what they like to call Meatless Monday in order to cater to vegetarians as well as open up another options for all students.

    Dorm Life

The First Year Experience program is one of many housing opportunities for first-year students interested in meeting people in their year or participate in different activities in the dorms, on campus, or even out in the town. This is typically held in the East Tower and has since moved to West Tower. First-year students are welcome to live anywhere on campus. Residential Assistants have proven themselves very reliable and trustworthy, and the other residence halls, even with many upperclassmen living there, become a tight community with their own programs and events. The terraces tend to hold two barbeque's, one in the beginning of the school year and the other concluding the year, called Terrace Rocks! which I enjoy.

    Academic Rigor

The teachers are challenging. The course load can be overwhelming, but it can be easily managed if you can schedule your time evenly among your activities as well as academic priorities. The work requires you to constantly take notes and remain active in class. Professors are open to giving students tips (and sometimes changing the learning style of the class) to help make sure all students are on the same track.

    Tips for prospective students

Utilize everything! The professors are always willing to help, even if you're confused in class they will always welcome a little extra time during their office hours. Unlike many other universities, there are free tutoring services all over campus.

    In three sentences

It's honestly a great place to be if you're looking for a nice and simple environment. All resources are made available to students and the classes are small so students can receive a lot of attention from their teachers. Seeing how Ithaca College and the surrounding towns are really close, there are a lot of community service opportunities offered here as well.

    Campus Safety

Ithaca College's campus seems very safe. We have police patrolling at all hours of the day and there are blue lights scattered all over campus.

    Greek Life

There is only a Greek house for the music students, but I don't think it's the traditional Greek Life.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many clubs at Ithaca College! It's great and easy to get involved.

Great for these types of students

Our film program is highly recommended and the professors are all experienced in the industry. Ithaca College also offers a semester in LA which appeals to a lot of film majors.

    What to do for fun

There are different events that Ithaca College has on campus, such as the Ithacapella Concerts (the colleges acapella group) and different clubs have meetings and put together events. Also, students sometimes go downtown to the restaurants or just walk around in the area. There are also the gorges to hike.

    Food and Dining

There's a pretty good collection of different foods, but it still gets a bit repetitive. There is what's called the Pub and you can pay for food there that's made like a cafe style (wraps, salads, etc.). Ithaca also has a sub connect which is like our local Subway on campus.

    Dorm Life

Ithaca College has a special program for freshman called FYE (Freshman Year Experience), where all freshman involved in this program room together and have different programs helping them bond and make new friends.

    Academic Rigor

As usual, some classes were more difficult than others. Since I am in the film and photography major my production classes were difficult because I needed to get used to using the equipment, but professors were always available to help out.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are looking into coming to Ithaca College be sure to take a tour of each of the facilities for your specific major. You should also talk to different professors in order to get a feel for what the courses are like. Another important element of applying to Ithaca College is to be sure and take a look at all the clubs you can get involved in at this school.

    In three sentences

Ithaca College is a great atmosphere for students. You are close to downtown and there are plenty of events on campus as well. I enjoy attending Ithaca.

    Campus Safety

Great, you see cop cars everywhere and the blue light system is very nice to have around.

    Greek Life

None. You can go to Cornell if you want, but not that many people pledge there, people just go there to have a good time in the Fall. Once Spring semester comes around you have to know the brother or sisters to get into any Greek house.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many things to join and get involved in. If you have an interest, start a club, or it will most likely already be around somewhere.

Great for these types of students

Very esthetic, driven, fashionable, snow loving, hippie/hipster/outdoorsy people love Ithaca. Anyone can fit in here, there are all kinds of people and many kids of places to find your niche.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

We have places called Narnia, we get a ridiculous amount of snow, and graduated seniors try to jump into our fountains.

    Bang for the buck

The campus could be better taken care of, the dorms could be more appealing, we could have more musical guests and the food could be better, but the professors, classes, resources, and networking connections are top notch. Also the people are very different, and interesting.

    What to do for fun

There are many clubs on campus. If you're in the Park School, ICTV, Ithaca's TV station, and WICB, Ithaca's MTV Woodie award winning radio station, are awesome places to get involved. You learn more working on the TV and radio shows than you could ever learn in a class room anywhere.

    Food and Dining

The food is above average, but it could be better. For the Vegans and Vegetarians out there, IC has a great assortment of food.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are older. They do not have the glitz and glam of many colleges and universities that are the same price as IC. They are not the most ascetically pleasing dorms, but the rooms are well maintained and the bath rooms are kept clean. Once you are older the apartments on campus are awesome to live in. They are new and cool. Off campus housing is also readily available.

    Academic Rigor

Once you're in your major, Ithaca is a very challenging school. Before choosing your major the classes may not be as hard as what you're expecting, but they all still challenge you no matter what.

    Tips for prospective students

You don't have to know what you're doing with your life yet to come to IC. There are many different options for you while searching around the multiple schools. Don't be scared of meetings new people here, everyone is very open and chill, and wants to get to know everyone.

    In three sentences

Ithaca College is surrounded by gorges, hiking trails, one of the larger finger lakes, and a culturally diverse town. There is always something to do in town, like festivals, movies and parties. Ithaca College's Roy H. Park School of Communication is the place to be; if you're looking into IC you better be trying to get into Park.

    Campus Safety

There are blue light emergency phones all over campus. It is actually tue that you can see a different blue light while your standing at another one, it is not just a rumor!

    Greek Life

No greek life! (besides honor societies) I was upset about going to a school without greek life but no that I am settled in, I am very happy about this. Having no greek life allows all of the different groups of poeple to be friends and saves a lot of money and time. We are able to have plenty of fun with friends without having greek life!

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many clubs and activities on campus! Many majors have their own club, there are sports clubs for people or do not wish to join varsity, and there are tons of community service organizations on campus.

Great for these types of students

Anyone! There is such a variety of poeple at IC so it is hard to have a stereotype of who should attend. When walking around campus, you see the athletes, the musicians, the honors students, etc. but the best part is, it is sometimes hard to tell the groups apart. Everyone puts so much effort in academically and socially which makes it easy for everyone on campus to be friendly and kind to one another, no matter what they look like or what their interests are.

    Bang for the buck

Yes, college is expensive. If you strive to succeed and have fun while doing it, going to IC is worth every penny out of my pocket. You have the opportunity to meet your best friends and have a blast for 4 years of your life, of course while working your butt off and trying your best academically as well!

    What to do for fun

Walk around the Commons downtown, go out to eat with some friends or family, visit cornell to see what there campus is like or stop by a frat or 2. On some friday or Saturday nights, athletic teams will host a fundraiser party at the Haunt or the Oasis which are 2 18+ clubs in the area. There are athletic events to watch like football or soccer and every so often, go see a play or musical performed by IC students on campus.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't be nervous! ( i know, easier said than done!) I was extremely excited to go away to college but was very nervous about doing well academically. You will meet freinds who can help you, there are tutors in alm,ost every subject, and the professors cae so much about you and how you are doing in the course. As long as you try your best, you will do just fine!

    In three sentences

It is a friendly and welcoming environment. It is very easy to get involved in different organizations and activities because they have so much to offer. The acacdemics are also great; the professors are there to help you every step of the way.

    Campus Safety

Ithaca has a VERY safe campus. There are blue phone lights all over campus that you can run to if you are in trouble. Campus safety is cool and calm but they do their jobs.

    Greek Life

We have no Greek life on Ithaca's campus.

Great for these types of students

Artsy, outgoing types. But in all reality, there's a little bit of everything at Ithaca. Also, if it applies to you, the LGBT community is great there. It's a very accepting place. Students who work hard will go far.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Parties in Circle apartments, under t10, nature trails.

    Bang for the buck

Very expensive school. In a lot of ways, yes, Ithaca is worth the cost; however, there are plenty of institutions that can offer an education that is just as good as Ithaca's with a much lower tuition.

    What to do for fun

Sooooooo much! Hang in the dorms with friend, go on a nature hike on one of the bajillion trails, go to parties on and off campus, see recitals and shows in Dillingham or Whalen and even downtown and at Cornell. The city frequently holds cool events in the Commons. Check out apple fest, ice sculpting competitions, free live music. There's so much to do. Go swimming in the gorges, explore the town, shop, eat, see the lake, go to sporting events. There's always SOMETHING to do.

    Food and Dining

The food starts out pretty great, but after you have the same things a few times, it gets rough. But there are three dining halls, kosher services, create-your-own possibilities, and lots of pizza. I'm sure there are worse dining halls on other campuses. There's a sub shop thats really good and theres a mexican grill sort of thing, so you can always buy real food without having to leave campus.

    Dorm Life

I live in the Terraces. They are quiet, nice, and friendly. It's just close enough to the places I need to be, but also not too close. The dorms are pretty nice with an established sense of community.

    Academic Rigor

I've only been there for a semester. I am a music composition major and I've noticed that the rigor of my high school curriculum prepared me for Ithaca. The expectations are high, but it is manageable and very worth the effort.

    Tips for prospective students

Check out Ithaca first. By that, I mean visit the college, the city, visit Cornell, immerse yourself in the Ithacan culture (there's a lot of it). The music school is amazing. The film school, too. If you're talented and want to be surrounded by talent, Ithaca is the perfect place.

    In three sentences

Ithaca is beautiful and holds many opportunities both on and off campus. The atmosphere is beyond fun and the academics are of high quality. The instructors care and the large amount of like-minded, goal-oriented people make the college feel like home.

    CORTACA

    What to do for fun

There are a few state parks in town, so hike the gorges! It's fun to do when it is warm out because there are some places to go swimming.

    Food and Dining

The food is pretty good, but there isn't a lot of variety within the dining halls. After a few months I got bored of it just because the choices don't change a lot.

    Dorm Life

My dorm, at least, is awesome. Everyone is very friendly and always have their doors open.

    Academic Rigor

I'm a television-radio major, and that's the most popular one at Ithaca. The classes teach you what you need to know and the teachers are willing to help you as much as they can. Classes for my minor (Sports Studies) are more lecture-based and are a bit more difficult. Do the readings!

    Tips for prospective students

Apply for specialized housing floors! There are a bunch based on different interests like being eco-friendly and enjoying outdoor adventure. It's a great way to meet people when you get to college and don't know anyone because they have a lot of their own outings and events.

    In three sentences

The classes are interesting and current. The students are welcoming and friendly. The campus itself is beautiful and the town of Ithaca is great for students.

    Dorm Life

Towers is good to be sociable but the elevators and the waiting becomes a great hassle but having a dinning hall where you live makes up for it.

    Academic Rigor

It depends some majors are stricter than others like STEM majors are much more rigorous than some Park School or Business majors.

    Tips for prospective students

Do well in high school but also make sure to succeed out of high school as well.

    Bang for the buck

To be honest, Ithaca College is really expensive, about $50,000 per year. I will say that in everyone's curriculum, you have to do fan internship in your desired field. The teachers are really well-qualified. College in general is too expensive now across the board.

    What to do for fun

A lot of people like to go to the commons to eat or shop. There is also a mall about 20 minutes away to drive. Ithaca College has a lot of on-campus events that are fun as well. There are a decent amount of parties on the weekend if that's your thing.

One of my favorite spots on campus is the pond by the chapel. It's so beautiful and tranquil, sometimes you see geese or a deer. A perfect spot if you want some quiet or just wanna relax.

    What to do for fun

Some nights you'll wanna just stay in your room and cozy up with a movie, other nights it's fun to go out to the commons and explore. Go out to dinner sometimes, it's a nice change. And simply hang out with friends; there's no lack of friendly faces around here.

    Food and Dining

Again, it's dining hall food, but for the most part, it's usually not bad. There's three dining halls to choose from, and they all have slightly different types of food. There's always a variety at all of them, so it's not hard for picky eaters to find food they like.

There are plenty of options available. Fairly standard size.

    Academic Rigor

I came from a fairly challenging high school. Courses here are relatively easy. You still have to work and study, but it's not overly daunting.

    Tips for prospective students

Visit! After taking a campus tour, I knew it was where I wanted to go.

    In three sentences

Ithaca is a uniquely passionate community. Quirky and cold, it is definitely not for everyone. If you decide it's the right fit, you can benefit from incredible opportunities, experiences, and connections in a stunning location.

    Campus Safety

Campus Safety does their job, but almost begrudgingly. I had an incident where my roommate needed medical assistance and public safety took about twenty minutes to get to the room, and another ten or fifteen to get him into the ambulance. It's a small town, so most of the crimes are drunken things or theft. But let's just say Public Safety isn't known for being buddy buddy with the students.

    Greek Life

I don't know if IC has any Greek Life, but if so it's very small.

    Clubs and Activities

There are far too many clubs to count.

Great for these types of students

If you're outgoing, the atmosphere will be great for you. If you're more introverted it'll be a little more difficult. You have to put yourself out there though. Meet people, get involved, and do things. It'll make it worthwhile.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The Gorges are usually everyone's go to place. As they say, Ithaca Is Gorges. Otherwise, the Commons are pretty cool. You just gotta explore, especially early on in the year when the weather is actually warm.

    Bang for the buck

This is the toughest part of the college. Ithaca is very expensive, but it has very good programs with lots of connections. The college is pretty good at giving out financial aid, but if you're from a lower middle class family (like me) then affording IC will be difficult. It might even be more economical to start off somewhere else and transfer into IC. I might not be able to return because of the cost; that's how big of an issue it can be. So just be aware of that.

    What to do for fun

Ithaca is a decent sized town. The Commons are fun; there's usually something going on down there. The college hosts open mic nights every Wednesday; there is usually an event hosted by the college everywhere. You just gotta go out and find them; don't hole up in your dorm room.

    Food and Dining

What can I say? It's college food. They do a good job of offering healthy alternatives, but it becomes very repetitive very quickly.

    Dorm Life

Look, it all depends if you're a party person or not. My experience wasn't that great, but that's because I wasn't really a part person. In most dorms there will be a party every weekend, especially in Freshman dorms. It'll be very noisy. If that doesn't bother you, then no worries. Everyone is usually very nice. If you're a person who doesn't like noise or the smell of alcohol, dorm life is gonna be a little tough for you.

    Academic Rigor

It varies from class to class, but IC is pretty fair with its academics.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you can afford it. I went in too fast and came out biting off a little more than I could chew. If money is not an issue, then definitely get to know other incoming freshman before you get here. Build the friendships up as early as possible.

    In three sentences

It's expensive, but if you can make it work do so. It's a very friendly atmosphere with great programs and a great student body.

    Bang for the buck

I'm unconvinced, even though I love it here, that it's worth the $50k+

    What to do for fun

Have a car or you will be bored. Lots of cool shows come right into Ithaca, huge jam band and electronic scene here.

    Food and Dining

Sodexo = prison food. Campus center has awful food, and Terraces is the only dining hall with decent food. Food in town is great, but it doesn't seem like as much variety as I was expecting.

    Dorm Life

Average college dorm, alternative living on campus is the way to go rather than residence halls, but they're more money added on to an already expensive room and board fee.

    Academic Rigor

Not so difficult I want to rip all my hair out, but not so easy I don't feel the pressure to get work done. Very manageable if you're committed to what you're studying and have a strong interest in the work you're doing.

    Tips for prospective students

Acceptance rate is relatively high, and SAT scores are no longer required. Have a decent GPA, and have an essay that really shows you have a strong sense of self--it seems to be a recurring theme in the IC student body.

    In three sentences

It is really all about you and your learning here. The programs give a ton of opportunities for you to seek out, especially for programs like writing or music. And the town of Ithaca is a hub for progressive thinking and political activism.

Apple fest in the fall, Chili fest in the winter among some.

    What to do for fun

Nature; if you love the outdoors, Ithaca is gorges. Parties; some in IC and some in Cornell.

    Food and Dining

Food isn't too bad, although the dining halls tend to serve the same food all too often. There are other places to get food, but they're all off campus and located downtown which is about 1.5 miles.

    Dorm Life

FYRE is a great program to sign up for if you're an incoming freshmen. You'll be housed with other freshmen students and it's easier to make friends because you're surrounded with people who are in the same situation as you. Upperclassmen students are allowed to block house, meaning they can apply to live next to their friends in the same building. Juniors and Seniors are allowed to live off campus or in circle apartments which is in IC's vicinity. Right now, IC doesn't allow off campus housing for sophomores, but policy might change. The Residential Assistants are helpful, and they come through with any problems among roommates. I have a few friends who have had roommate problems, and they were able to work something out with the RA's help.

    Academic Rigor

The academic program is one of the biggest reasons why I came to IC, and I feel like I made the right choice. The professors are really open, helpful, and eager to help students who come forward with questions. As with any colleges, some academic programs are hard and some are easy, but it really depends on the student. There are tutors available and of course the professors.

    Tips for prospective students

Ithaca College is a great school for students who prefer an average size campus and overall student body. The town itself is great and the people here are nice and friendly. IC isn't very diverse in terms of ethnicity as with other universities, but IC is a very accepting community. It might sound like a cliché, but IC does have something for everybody and there are tons of clubs ranging from environmental clubs, community service, circus, and break dancing. Try to branch out and explore which niche you belong to.

Sporting events, hanging out in the quad or going to the dining halls to eat and hang out are mostly what students do. The town isn't too far from campus, which is why going into town is the most popular choice.

    Food and Dining

Personally, the dining halls on campus are the best I've eaten at and that is saying something. The food selection may not be the best choice for students who are watching their figure though.

    Dorm Life

There are four choices of dorms on campus as well as apartments on campus for upperclassmen. The dorms are clean and orderly and the students are respectable with sharing a dorm room.

    Academic Rigor

College may be overwhelming for most students but they always need to keep in mind that what may scare them may be the most beneficial to them.

    Academic Rigor

That really depends on your major and the courses you're going to select - Some courses may be more challenging than others - but don't fall into despair - Ithaca College offers courses with various levels of difficulty and so you can choose whatever will be adequate for you.

    Tips for prospective students

You definitely have to visit the campus of Ithaca College! It is located on a hill southern of downtown Ithaca. Dorm Life

There are many dorms to choose from on campus. The best dorms are terraces. Do not live in emerson it is too far from everything.

    Greek Life

There is no greek life. People go to one of the many near by colleges for parties, or the apartments close to campus. This isn't completely bad because you have to leave to go to parties, this is just another reason to stay in your room and do the work you owe.

    Clubs and Activities

There is pretty much a club for everything you can think of and if there isn't, you can make one. Everyone running the clubs is really into it.The teachers really push students to join clubs.

Great for these types of students

Ithaca is widely known and appreciated for music and theater so its great for anyone who likes to be on stage. Pretty much everyone is calm and friendly so it's great for relaxed students who also focus on school. It's also great for teacher's pets since the teachers are so interested in their students.

I only went to orientation so I don't know.

    Bang for the buck

I believe the price for most colleges is insane. This doesn't change for Ithaca but more things are offered for free due to the price. I've also noticed the quality of everything is better than cheaper schools.

    What to do for fun

I was only there for orientation but people enjoyed going into town. Students who have attended said IC fest is great. They go to other schools and the apartments near by for parties and to hang out.

    Food and Dining

The food i've eaten there that comes on meal plans is good. The food in the food court thats attached to bonus bucks is really good. There are a lot of options for people who eat anything, vegetarians and vegans.

    Dorm Life

I have not attended yet, only visited. I'm living in Emerson Hall, which is extra money. Everyone who already attends the school says the air conditioning, lounges and bathroom in your room. I stayed in the towers for two nights during orientation and I would never want to live in them.

    Academic Rigor

I havent attended classes yet, however; everyone I've spoken to who attended claims the classes are difficult. It becomes easier when you are close with your teacher.

    Tips for prospective students

Be aware that it is cold for most of the year because it will affect you and most people forget that. Develop a relationship with your teachers because they want nothing more than to help you. Use them to your full advantage.

    In three sentences

Ithaca's campus is beautiful. I continue to believe the teachers are Ithaca's best aspect, they are more involved and compassionate than any other teachers I've known. Everything except the price is great.

They run a really tight ship, and are some of the nicest people as long as you give them no reason to be mad at you.

    Greek Life

Almost non-existent (officially). The only school-sanctioned Greek organizations are the music organizations, Mu Phi Epsilon, Phi Mu Alpha, and Sigma Alpha Iota. There are plenty of unofficial ones who hold many events, but none of those groups are actually affiliated with the school. There are no Greek houses on IC's campus. Each music frat gets a floor of a Terrace. If you want Greek houses and parties, look to Cornell.

Great for these types of students

Musicians Actors Left-leaning folks (Ithaca is a very blue area!) Partiers

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Unusual Location: The Fish. On top of Textor Hall is a large, metal, circular structure. People call it the Fish, even though it's not shaped in any way like a fish. The legend goes that if someone graduates from IC and is still a virgin, the Fish will roll down South Hill and into Lake Cayuga. Traditions: Cortaca. Just because we're D3 sports doesn't mean we can't get into it! Cortaca is our rivalry football game against SUNY Cortland. People are shuttled to wherever the game is, and there's a lot of festivities for it. Yes, that includes drinking. You'll see a lot of folks with F*CK CORTLAND shirts. That's why.

    What to do for fun

Not much on the campus itself, other than the student groups. We have everything from club sports to IC Circus (learning to juggle!) to Humans vs. Zombies (nerf tag), to Quidditch (actual sport). When you get off campus, there are plenty of options if you're willing to drive (or ride the TCAT buses). There are always concerts at the clubs and other venues in town (including some 18-under clubs), including Cornell. Everyone loves going to the beautiful gorges when the weather is nice, typically the first and last months of school. Plenty of parks in town for picnics, and Syracuse is an hour's drive away. Transport is a must, however, so a friend with a car is almost essential.

    Food and Dining

Many, many options for every taste. There's Kosher food, Italian, Vegan/Vegetarian, and everything in between. What's nice about Ithaca is the town is a food-lover's paradise, and that rubs off on the school. A lot of the food is brought in from local farms around the town, and it's very obvious that the school takes pride in it. There are only three major dining areas on campus, and you learn where and when the rushes will be. Campus Center is always a madhouse for breakfast because the grill makes omelettes to order (watch out for that line!). Lunch is typically at Towers, where you can get a mean burger if you're willing to wait in line. And dinner rush is found at Terraces Dining, which, though the largest of the three, is still a crowded madhouse in the peak dining hour (around 6pm). And late night cravings can be satisfied at Towers Dining when it turns into Late Night, with new themed meals every day of the week. Taco Tuesday, anyone?

    Dorm Life

Dorms are clean and cozy, if relatively small. Freshman housing is taking over more and more of campus now, and past sophomore year you can't live in a double anymore, but other than that the dorms are nice. There is dedicated WIFI for the dorms that was upgraded in Spring 2013, but it still can be rather slow during peak hours (early evenings, typically).

    Academic Rigor

Obviously not a Harvard-level academic school, but the quality of the education is incredible considering the school's prominence. It's extremely evident that the professors care for the students and the subject matter, and the classes will be challenging, but doable. You are pushed, but not past your limits.

    Tips for prospective students

Now that the SAT/ACT requirement is being dropped, focus on good academics. Be sure to visit campus before you apply and meet with teachers. They can certainly put in a good word with the admissions community if you make a good impression. That helped me for sure! Don't neglect the writing samples, because they want to make sure you are a decent writer when you get to campus. You'll take Academic Writing anyway, but they'll want to make sure something's there!

    In three sentences

Ithaca College is located in a very typical college town. It seems like everyone on campus knows everyone else, and you will constantly find yourself outside of your school and participating in many other activities. Just be sure to get off campus, it can feel a little isolated otherwise.

    Campus Safety

I've always felt pretty safe on campus. The only scary part is probably walking across campus at nighttime but you can always go with a friend.

    Greek Life

Ithaca College does not have traditional sororities and frats, but it doesn't make the college any less fun. They do however have alternative frats and sororities that are welcoming to everyone and do not practice hazing.

    Clubs and Activities

I Love the campus activities here. There is literally something for EVERYONE. and if you haven't found something that only means you're not looking hard enough. Join at least ONE club. It'll do you lots!

Great for these types of students

People who love to learn. People who love to be active. People who like being mentally and academically challenged. People who love meeting new people and being social.

    What to do for fun

I personally didn't get out much my freshman year. Ithaca College does have on campus activities that are pretty exciting and free food events (who doesn't love food?). The party scene is okay, it's not really my style but if you're into that: Be smart, Be safe, and go with people you know. The commons has a movie place and restaurants and shops to indulge in.

    Food and Dining

I like how accessible the food is. There's always food options to choose from. The best Dinning Hall is The Terraces, always been there never complained about the food. Also has vegan and kosher options.

    Dorm Life

People are generally happy with dorms they choose. It all depends on your roommates and the location of the dorm on campus that would make or break your liking. The Quads have spacious rooms. The most spacious on campus. However it's the Upper Quads you would want because the Lower Quads are farther away from the campus. The Upper Quads are similarly close to the center of campus. The Towers is more like the 'freshmen' building. You are mostly with first year students so there is the comfortability that you do have people facing the same experience as you do. Also houses dinning hall within dorm (no going out into the cold) and has the only dinning hall the does a late night shift. The Terraces- on the other side of campus pretty high into the hills and the nature part of the campus. Houses the best dinning hall food on campus. (T2) Garden Apartments- mostly for juniors and seniors, but it's an apartment complex on campus. Students here don't have a meal plan. It's closer to the highway roads that lead into the commons. Emerson Hall- (I lived here freshman year) This is a combination of freshman, sophomores and juniors. Each room has it's own bathroom and a communal kitchen. A similar feel to the Garden Apartments except you CAN have a meal plan and stay here.

    Academic Rigor

Between 3 and 4 stars I'd give this place. The work is challenging depending on your major and professor. You do learn and not just within the classroom. You have many classes to pretty much learn whatever you want, so knowledge is limitless. If you do have difficulty in a class professors are really willing to help so don't feel scared if you're not doing well. Office hours with my Latin teacher turned my grade from what would've been a C- to an A-.

    Tips for prospective students

Ithaca College has a good job retention rate and many alumnus in major businesses, law firms, theatre productions, writing publication houses, and other job areas that you could be majoring in school. There are many internship programs and a few scholar programs you can be apart of that would give exceptional experience and good highlight on your resume. There are tons of Study Abroad Programs that. It's a great college, professors are willing to challenge and help you. Go to orientation. Make friends. Get excited about the classes you could be taking.

    In three sentences

Ithaca College is a wonderful experience for anyone who wants to challenge their minds academically. The campus has a friendly environment where other students and professors are willing to help. If I could choose all over again I would choose Ithaca College.
