Categories Comments Great for these types of students Ivy Tech is great for people still trying to figure out what path they want to take. A class you take and don't use costs a lot less here at Ivy Tech than it does at the big name four year schools. The Culinary program is for people like me who learn best through hands on involvement and close connection with hard working educators. I really appreciate everything that Ivy Tech and mainly their culinary program is doing for me the student.
Tips for prospective students My tip for school is to figure out what you want to do. Research all you can and find out everything you need to know for what you plan on going for. Be sure of what you want then go for it. Work hard and give it the best you've got. Don,t give up over struggle for struggle is what leads to new growth.:)
Bang for the buck I chose Ivy Tech at first because I did not know what I wanted to go to school for and I did not want to waste a ton of money trying to figure it out either. Ivy Tech was a great chpice for me because I am now working on a degree that I love. I am happy with the culinary program here at Ivy Tech and am planning on finishing my degree here.
Am enjoying being here I enjoy being at Ivy Tech because I know that I am refining myself into a more educated and disciplined individual through my work and studies here. Also when you are around people who are excited about sharing/teaching what they do, it makes it all the more enjoyable.
Am learning a lot I am really enjoy the culinary program that Ivy Tech of Central Indiana is offering. All of the educators and the head of the culinary department, Chef Bricker are very involved and accredited for their positions. Everyone shows lots of passion and excitement for what they do. This helps me to feel the same and deffinatly encourages my learning. I feel as though they really care about the success of their students.

Categories Comments Campus Safety the campuses that i had been are located in indianapolis and lawrence, they're very safe inside and out. the campuses count on patrols and guards around the parking place and inside the building.
Clubs and Activities i never had the chance to participate in school activities, ivy tech had a drama club, a social service club as well. always oriented to help the community.
Bang for the buck ivy tech really worth every dollar that you spend on it. the credit payments are very affordable than regular colleges in the city.
Food and Dining never try the cafe for a meal or anything like that. just probably to buy a coffee, but the atmosphere is nice and friendly.
Dorm Life i don't think ivy tech provides dorms. mostly students commute everyday.
Academic Rigor ivy tech as another academic institution demands a lot from their students, engage in research, academic support during search and after school. thus also study and prepare for projects and evaluations during the academic semester.
Tips for prospective students first of all, it recommended that future students have in mind the choice of career, so it is easier entry to it. second, engaging fully in the study, seek guidance and direction of teachers as well as the right tools for research and development projects of the same. third, develop interdependence, that means: help each other in class, each partner makes his contribution a classroom, and that contributes to career success.
In three sentences ivy tech community college make possible the students of all ages with lower income get a professional education. the school keeps an open schedule from monday through saturday for all students who wants to have class time in their multiple locations. also, the online programs are really great, teachers provide multiple information and support to the students to succeed. in recent years, ivy tech community college has achieved great reputation, being compared to universities in indiana.

Categories Comments Greek Life They do not have one.
Great for these types of students Great for older students.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus A tradition location is in the main lobby.
What to do for fun They always have nice career days. Ivy Tech also have movie nights that are fun.
Tips for prospective students I would say just to stay focus. No one wil help you stay focused.
In three sentences I think Ivy Tech is a good school for those who are older and just coming back to school. I do not believe that it is a good school for incoming freshman's. They have a little too much freedom.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are plenty of security around and emergency phones in the parking lot/garages.
Bang for the buck You can either get an associates degree or transfer to a 4 year college to get your bachelors. But you will only spend about 1/2 of what you would for 1 year at a traditional 4 year college, for 2 years.
What to do for fun We have a basketball team. There are also plenty of fitness groups that meet. There are also poetry groups.
Food and Dining There is a food court and a cafe that I have yet to try. But the smells coming from both are divine.
Dorm Life There are currently no dorms.
Academic Rigor Some classes can be pretty intense. As long as you make it your priority to be in class every session you should do fine.
Tips for prospective students Check out courses and course curriculum online. Also make an appointment with an advisor. They can help answer any questions you have.
In three sentences It has been a long time since I had been in school. I have found it very easy to get back into the swing of things. Also All the staff and faculty I have had dealings with so far have been great and very helpful.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Those serious about college will really benefit from this college because if you need help with anything someone at that school no matter how many people you have to talk to, WILL help you solve your problem whether it is paperwork or otherwise! Go Getters Working Adults Undecided Majors Criminal Justice Majors Early Childhood Education Majors Those seeking the CDA Certificate
Tips for prospective students Apply for their scholarships, grants and the FAFSA application online and as early as possible or you will miss out on grants you qualify for! I am a 21st Century Scholar and I did not receive my scholarship simply because of the date for which the FAFSA was received by their financial aid office..... I am worried I won't get my books in time to start class right now because they have a policy where it can take up to a month for me to receive my loans even though I am taking late start classes. Kind of boggles me. They should implement a voucher program where they will charge our accounts for the estimated amount of how much books cost and then when the loans get there subtract the actual amount we spent from the amount of our loans or other financial aid.
Bang for the buck very gentle on the pocket, especially if you are an in state resident!
Will enjoy being here I have been to the North Meridian Campus, it is always clean, quiet but has an air of excitement and honor to it. There is an overall great vibe about this school and the staff that I have met are very personable, professional and easy to get along with.
Will learn a lot I have attended a great New Student Orientation and they helped me figure out what I needed to do to accomplish 2 of my 50 plus goals I have academically! It was so great to learn how to get a head start on my classes and know what I should be looking for because classes seem to go very fast in availability whenever they become available! They didn't rush me or interrupt and they helped me make sure I was on track for classes up to 4 semesters so that I wouldn't be aimlessly searching for classes that might not apply to my current major or future goals.

Categories Comments Campus Safety security on this campus is very high profile. whether it is the middle of the day or late at night i have often seen two or more police officers on campus at all times.
Greek Life greek life is non-existent on this campus.
Clubs and Activities there are very limited opportunities to get involved in any clubs or activities. at the very least i have not seen any advertised.
Great for these types of students this is great for low income students who are trying to make it. it is also perfect for those people who have family obligations (i.e. you are a parent) and for those students who plan to be working while they are attending classes.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus the new julia carson center has just opened up and is a beautiful facility that allows for a very relaxed atmosphere that is conducive to studying.
Bang for the buck surprisingly enough, for the cost of the school (which is very low comparably speaking) the quality of education is very high. the education that you receive for the money you spend is exceedingly high.
What to do for fun there are plenty of locations in the downtown area to go to. since this is a community college, campus is usually dead after 10 o'clock.
Food and Dining there is very limited food. it only consists of vending machines.
Academic Rigor while this may not be an ivy league school, it is still an institution of higher learning and thus requires more from you than high school did. the classes are competitive and the academic standards are high.
Tips for prospective students do not down-play ivy tech simply because it is a community college. it is still a higher learning institution and the level of study and work that is involved is comparable to any four-year school that i have experienced. you are receiving a quality education that you will be able to take with you anywhere in life.
In three sentences i am surprised at the quality of the instructors that the school has provided at such a low cost! they are extremely personable and understand that the only reason that you are there is to improve your future. therefore, they treat you with the attention and the dignity that you require and deserve.

Great for these types of students Trying to get things on the right track, save money, and just about anyone.

Dorm Life My dorm is at home. Your dorm at Ivy Tech can be anywhere you choose.
Academic Rigor The academics are very accurate, challenging, and will make you try your best.
Tips for prospective students This is a great start before something big, it is always great to have a foundation. Let Ivy Tech be that foundation.
In three sentences Ivy Tech Community College is an awesome school. They are very flexible with your schedule and challenge you to do things that you thought you could never do. They have taught me a lot about being an adult and being a college student.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Pretty safe in my opinion. Use common sense and lock your car doors. Don't bring valuables and you will be fine.
Bang for the buck I do believe it is the cheapest college in the Indianapolis area
Food and Dining The only food available is either Noble Roman's or vending machines. Neither of which are healthy or good.
Dorm Life Ivy Tech does not offer dorms or on campus housing

Categories Comments Campus Safety Perhaps very late at night in summer it would be a bad idea to hang around once the buildings are locked up. There are guards and the parking garages are patrolled.
Great for these types of students Students who want to save money and transfer to IUPUI. If you have vocational interests, it's a superb choice.
Bang for the buck The Pre-Engineering programs in EE and ME transfer to IUPUI. You can knock out the first two years of study in these two engineering fields, get an AS degree, and transfer to IUPUI without losing time or much money. The Ivy Tech GPA doesn't transfer to IUPUI (you just get the credits), but that's a small price to pay for saving thousands of dollars to enjoy smaller classes.
What to do for fun I'm a non-traditional engineering student: I don't have a social life, so I don't know. However, Indianapolis is a large city with many possibilities. Ivy Tech makes clear efforts to involve students in more than courses alone and does a good job informing them of various activities on campus.
Food and Dining I've never eaten on the campus, because I have to watch my spending.
Academic Rigor The pre-engineering courses have been rather demanding (and enjoyable), but I also try to do more exercises from the material than are assigned. As for other courses, I do not know, as I've filled my general education credits elsewhere.
Tips for prospective students Put your cell phone away and study. Purdue University is quite arrogant, so the engineering- and technology-specific courses here will likely not transfer there. Keep in mind Purdue-West Lafayette is so snobbish it even refuses to accept credits from its own branch campuses of the College of Technology (and who knows what else). Keep in mind that pre-engineering and engineering technology are different. The engineering courses may be allowed to fill certain engineering technology requirements, but it does not work the other way, which a few students I know have found out the hard way.
In three sentences If you plan to attend IUPUI, do your first two years here to save much money. The pre-engineering courses I have taken have, so far, been demanding and rewarding. There is an amazing selection of courses, so consider trying something different (e.g., machinist classes), as the tuition costs are low enough that dabbling won't destroy you financially.

Clubs and Activities There are many club at Ivy Tech.
Great for these types of students Ivy Tech has all kind of students: hispanic, native american, dominican republic, mexican, afro american you name it.
What to do for fun There are many events going on every week at Ivy Tech. Ivy Tech offers many discount tickets for events such as skating, basketball, football, and many other sport events. They also offer discount tickets and transportation for other events like water parks and others.
Food and Dining The food Ivy Tech serves, is very healthy and nutritional, I would say they try to serve food that helps you concentrate with your studies. The dining are the cleanest dinings I have ever seen in any college.
Dorm Life Haven't had the chance to experience the dorm life, so I don't have a specific evaluation for it.
Academic Rigor Very high academic rigor I would say.
Tips for prospective students Do not let your fear consume you, Ivy Tech staff and faculty will always be there to help you.

Dorm Life I can't rate this one as I do not live on campus
Academic Rigor In regards to academic rigor I gave this school three stars based on the degree of difficulty and challenges given by the instructors I've had so far.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you ask many questions regarding the financial aid process because al the correct information is not given during orientation.
In three sentences I would rate this institution as fair. Based on the customer service when you call the student services line is also fair due to the lack of knowledge on the part of the student that is answering the telephone. Organization is lacking somewhat for new students but it gets better as you ask many questions from different people.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Financially restricted, older adults who missed out on college, students who aren't too sure where to go but don't want to miss out on there first year of college.
Bang for the buck You get a lot for your money here, especially if you are an transferring student. you can get just about all your prerequisites done with just about $10,000 a year. rather than a semester. not to mention the student to teacher ration is very low so there is a lot of time for face to face time during school.
What to do for fun There are tons of activities to go out and do. It is a community college so most of the activities involve things in the community. they aren't necessarily College Activities rather, just activities for the common homebody to go out and do.
Food and Dining the food and dining isn't much more than a chip selection in the bookstore and the occasional Little Ceaser's pizza kitchen located in some of the areas. anything else concerning food would be taken up with the nearby restaurants. although most of the school buildings have there own cafeteria/study lounge for students who would want to bring their food instead of spending money.
Dorm Life there are no dorms. of course there are tons of apartments nearby with tons of students that go to the school. Those apartments are the closest thing you will get to any kind of dorm life.
Academic Rigor All the teachers are very laid back and very cool. they aren't usually too strict on deadlines, because they all know that this is your money you are wasting if you don't attend class or stop trying.
Tips for prospective students The best thing that you can possibly do here is attend the classes, ON TIME, and in a proficient manor. thats the best way to pass any class, and to be honest in classes at Ivy Tech its almost impossible to fail a class unless you just dont try

Great for these types of students This college is great for students that think or feel like they will not be able to handle the bigger campuses and the bigger crowds and the larger amount of people around.

Food and Dining At this college, we have a great new cafe that was just built a semester ago, and also a place to get coffee. Eating there is great also. They have small and big tables, so if you happen to be eating and studying with a group you do not have to hassle around to be able to do it. Categories Comments Campus Safety No matter which location you are at, there is always a sense of safety and security.
Great for these types of students Any student who may not have done so well in high school as far as grades and maybe lost some luster along the way, this college is perfect for taking strides toward being that bookworm you always dreamed of being. Also, anyone who works best with one-on-one help or gets nervous in large crowds, the class sizes are perfect to regain some of that confidence in yourself and your school work.
What to do for fun The college provides sports teams, clubs, and activities just as any other college does. The difference is the wide spread variety of campuses where your classes may be located. This semester all my classes were in Avon, IN. I am surrounded by restaurants and things to do in between or after classes.
Academic Rigor Everyone is very friendly and eager to do well in their classes. It is easy to find a study partner or study group. Also with smaller class sizes, there is more room for the professors to have a more personal relationship with each of the students by knowing their academic growths and needs.
Tips for prospective students 1.) Always have a planner or calendar handy: write down all assignments, due dates, and test dates, while keeping in mind special dates for your every day life. 2.) Read your textbooks!: Try to read the material before class so that class time can be spent refreshing your mind of what you've read, not to mention you'll have more space free in your head for new information that the professor can elaborate on. 3.) TAKE GOOD NOTES: Good notes are notes that you will understand when you read through them later. Put things into your own words, or elaborate in the margins when the professor is talking. Also, writing words of encouragement to yourself and reminders in your notes are a great way to keep you motivated!
In three sentences Ivy tech is a great first step toward a successful college career. Although the opportunities to transfer, receive your degree on campus or even work at home on the computer are similar to other colleges, the smaller classroom sizes and more personable teaching methods are perfect for students who may be undecided on their major or who aren't sure if they are ready to take on full course loads at a large university. With an option like Ivy Technical Institute, going to college isn't so intimidating anymore.

Categories Comments Campus Safety My campus has always seemed safe to me but not in a particularly safe area. Located downtown but close to the ghetto parts of town, so it would be a little scary at night..........luckily I only take classes during the sunlight hours.
Clubs and Activities I personally am not involved but they do offer tons of things to do if boredom sets in from Zumba to meet and greets!!
Great for these types of students Great for busy adults who can't always attend a class, they have lots of on-line classes offered, which is a plus!!
Bang for the buck Fairly priced...........the only downfall is textbook costs.
