I would get to school as early as possible to find a parking space. If you have questions, comments, or concerns please talk to someone in person. Please do not use your phone in class because the majority of the professors feel like that is disrespectful.

Be sure to study for the ACT/SAT tests. Academic scholarships make a big difference if you do not qualify for federal aid. Do not be afraid to show up to meetings or events, they are put in place so new people can get to know the organization. Clubs and extracurricular activities will help you to network with other students while also having a great time on campus. Jackson State has a very active Greek life, if you are interested in joining any organizations that are members of the Panhellenic council (Historically African-American sororities and fraternities).

If you're coming from out of state, be prepared for the need for a car. Jackson's public transit system isn't the greatest. If you are an undecided major, the undergraduate studies department is fantastic at helping you figure out what you want to do with your life and making sure you start out on that path. When you find your department, speak with your advisor twice a semester to make sure you are on the same page. College is expensive so you should always make sure you are fulfilling the graduation requirements in the proper time frame. Also, there is a required English Proficiency exam. It's not difficult, but make sure you know when your department requires you to take it. Some want you to take it earlier than others. On the whole, you'll enjoy the school.
