Tips for prospective students DON'T LIVE ON CAMPUS!!!!!! THE RESERVE @ JACKSONVILLE, IS RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET, IT'S NICE, AND SO IS THE GROVE. THE DORMS ARE DISGUSTING!!!
Bang for the buck tuition is AMAZING!! I came to the school from MI, and it was EXTREMELY easy to get in-state tuition!! All I had to do was get a bank account!
Am enjoying being here It's good for school, but you see the same people, not many places to go, but i love the school and the teachers.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Anyone!!! Jacksonville is a great school that makes you feel good as a group and not a single number.
Tips for prospective students Some tips that I believe are highly important are to be on time to class, don't bum your first test, and have fun but keep your grades up so you dont have to end up dropping any classes or getting a NC (no credit) for the class. First off, being on time is important because some teachers don't allow tardys and you don't want to get an absence just because you were 5 minutes late. Second, I learned this the hard way. Aim high for your first test. Study, Study, Study!!! Some teachers only have 3 tests for the entire semester so if you mess up on one you may not be able to pull out with that A you wanted. So take the first test seriously and learn from the test so you recognize how the format of the tests are. Last but not least have fun and keep your grades up because college is fun and everything but remember you don't want to be in college for the rest of your life just because you goofed of in Biology class.
Bang for the buck From financial aid to scholarships to grants, you can apply and hopefully you will receive some financial help. You just have to apply yourself because nothing is given to you on a silver platter without a little effort.
Am enjoying being here I enjoy this school. Everything you can walk to and now they have added a new transit system which will help students who have yet to get a car, especially on those rainy, cold days :) JSU has different activities from football games to fashion shows. They have activities for everyone interests.
Am learning a lot Jacksonville is a great school where you get the one on one attention from your teachers that many big universities are not capable of. JSU offers a lot of different programs and major choices. Most likely JSU has the degree you want.

Am enjoying being here It's a great place here. The campus here isn't too big or too small which makes places around town relatively easy to walk to.
Am learning a lot The teachers here are great and are definitely willing to help you out with whatever needs you might have.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Jacksonville State University is a very friendly campus. JSU is a people campus. Once you are here the upperclassmen and faculty make you feel welcomed. This place feels like home. If you are just that country boy/girl...JSU is where you're going! After all, we are just good ole Southerners!
Tips for prospective students Do not come here if you think its all about the parties and the just show ups. Plan on doing a lot of studying because you are going to need it. Once here, I advise all students to get involved in some sort of activity/ organization, or your four years+ here will be the most boring years you've experienced in your lifetime. Also plan your schedule at times that you are most comfortable.
Bang for the buck Being here has not shown me that I have gotten all of my money's worth. Although I can say...the semester that i have almost completed has been met at my standards.
Am enjoying being here I love the JSU campus. It is not as crowded and cluttered as most universities. The only thing that I do not like is that you have to drive about 20 minutes to get to fun. Though that may be to keep the students here more focused.
Am learning a lot Before I decided on Jacksonville State University, many people had told me that JSU meant just show up. Meaning all you had to do was just come to class and you would pass. Being here for almost a semester has proved their theory wrong. I have to attend all of my classes regularly to stay caught up with whats going on.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Everyone! JSU has so much to offer to many different types of students. We have a variety of student organizations with different goals and aspects on life, but we all have one thing in common. We're Cocky and we work all work together to make sure everyone on campus feels at home.
Tips for prospective students If you want to see a smiling face everywhere you go as long as you remain on campus, I recommend you to come to Jacksonville State University. Though JSU is located in a small town, I still recommend you to get your priorities in order. It's great to have fun (and I definitely expect you to do so), but you always have to make yourself realize that school is your number one priority. It's your full-time job for at least 4 years.
Bang for the buck JSU is a very pretty campus and has just as many ammenities, if not more, for its' students as far more expensive schools.
Am enjoying being here Since I've stepped on campus as a student I have not regretted it for one second. I have met my best friends and bridesmaids, as well as those who have played a role, whether they know it or not, in the shaping of my life. There's not much to do around campus, but if you get involved you will never be bored if you that's what you choose!
Am learning a lot Jacksonville has an assortment of classes that will cater to any student's needs and wants. The teachers care about you as a person, not just as a number.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students At about 10,000 students, it has all the perks of a large university but the feel of a smaller school Faculty are wonderful. Great athletics- the best band program anywhere! Greek organizations for the most part are also great. Not too snobby.
Tips for prospective students JSU may not even be on your radar, but give it a serious look.
Bang for the buck Trmendous value. You can even get in-state tuition if you follow JSU's instructions.
Am enjoying being here Great family feel. Everybody is friendly and willing to help you in any way possible. The motto The Friendliest Campus In The South is so true! They live by this.
Am learning a lot Quality of programs & majors is high- much higher than I expected. Professors are willing to help you do well. Don't skip classes and show respect and effort.

Tips for prospective students Be ready to enjoy college if you come to JSU.
Bang for the buck Yes. The tuition and other rates are great compared to a lot of other schools. I really like the small amount of money I have to pay.
Will enjoy being here YES. I love the campus, and I've talked to a lot of their students, they are some of the friendliest people you could possibly meet.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students There's really something here for everybody. If you're looking for a shiny new school in a city environment, it's not for you. But it really is a very comfortable place where everything you need to be happy and get a great education is here.
Tips for prospective students Get involved in something. People are very acepting & friendly. Greeks are pretty much cool, too. Sports & band are very good. While the campus and town don't look like much, it's not just safe but quite charming. Scratch beneath the surface and you'll probably find it's a great place to go to college.
Bang for the buck Great value!
Did enjoy being here The friendliest people on earth. Administration & faculty are committed to helping you succeed- everybody is accountable in cluding you.
Did learn a lot The Business School was fantastic! Great internships, and got a job right out of school.

Categories Comments Campus Safety not only are we located near jacksonville police department, we also have a upd where they keep eveyone in line.
Greek Life we have a great greek life, where each sorority and fraternity are all friends. we always stay involved with things on campus and being in a greek organization also helps you in the future past college.
Clubs and Activities many clubs are offered here, it just depends on finding the one (or more) right for you!
Great for these types of students it's great for people interested in band, football, international students, students interested in greek life, and anyone wanting to be in a small campus and knowing everyone.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus one of the main places people go to here is loco mex, a newly opened mexican restaurant where you can always see people you know.
Bang for the buck i'm so glad i chose this school to go to, because i could not imagine going anywhere else!
What to do for fun i suggest greek life for anyone interested in coming here, because it is a great way to meet numerous people, especially if you're not involved in any sports. but even if you're not interested in joining a fraternity or sorority, there are plenty of other organizations to join. not only do we have great sports here, our band is known nationwide.
Food and Dining jacksonville state also has great food! if you get a meal plan you're able to dine in the cafe or the tmb. the cafe offers all sorts of foods to choose from and the tmb includes a chick-fil-a and baja express. it's great because there is always someone to go eat with you and you always see someone you know in either place.
Dorm Life since this is my first year here, i had to live in one of the girls doorms on campus. personally, i love it because i met so many new people that live in the same place as i do and am always around their smiling faces! plus, whenever i need anything from anyone, there is always someone right down the hall to help.
Academic Rigor jacksonville offers a lot of majors, and also offers a great nursing and education program. but if either are not your thing, it also has great departments for other majors. all classes are obviously on college levels, but since it's a smaller school, classes are smaller and the teachers are more able to give one on one attention.
Tips for prospective students i would suggest coming to a football game, or any of the preview days to make sure the college is right for you. also, make sure to check out the college's scholarships it offers beforehand and to apply to as many as possible.
In three sentences it is a great college with many opportunities to be active. there is a great greek life here and just that in itself will keep you busy. we also have outstanding sports and there is always something to do.

Tips for prospective students Go to all of your classes, do all the class work and all of the homework assigned.
In three sentences The school is very helpful when it comes to selecting my classes that i need. Unfortunately, they don't offer the classes that i need on a regular basis, so it's taking me longer to get my degree. They don't offer enough criminal justice-corrections classes on-line.

Greek Life there are several fraternities and sororities to be involved in on campus. most of them are very active and do several community projects.
Clubs and Activities there are several clubs and activities to participate in on campus. many of them also have there own buildings and serve lunch on certain days.
Great for these types of students jsu is a great school for nursing students, future teachers, and any type of sport activity.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus a library walk through is a big tradition done by many seniors of jsu before graduating.
Bang for the buck tuition is a little pricey. it is also going up next semester in order to pay for a baseball stadium. this is very unfair to the students because not all students participate in baseball.
What to do for fun there are many things to do for fun at jsu. many of the clubs, fraternities, and sororities participate in many types of social gatherings.
Food and Dining the dining hall at jsu offers a great variety of delicious foods. there are also many restaurants in the city to choose from.
Dorm Life there are many dorms and apartments at jsu. all offer a very comfortable living environment.
Academic Rigor academic rigor is different for classes and majors. sometimes the teachers seem to only give busy work that is pointless. however, other times the work that is assigned is very meaningful and can be used in your major of study.
Tips for prospective students always be sure you get transfer guide and follow it you are first attending a 2 year college. sometimes the required classes for a major may be different.
In three sentences jsu is an all-around great school. the people there are very nice and easy to get along with. also, the teachers are very accessible and always willing to help.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Jacksonville is located around areas like Aniston where you can find things to do, but for around the nearby campus there is really not a lot to do except for the sporting events at the school.
Food and Dining Jacksonville State university has many different choices of dining. There is also a wide variety, both on campus and off. There are a few different restaurants on campus as well as a diner and a cafeteria.
Dorm Life The dorm life is different throughout, but in some of the lower level freshman dorms, things are quite rowdy and can be disruptive to the education of the students.
Academic Rigor Like any other institution things are easier in some areas than others. overall most of the classes require that you pay great attention and study a lot so you can have success in the class.
Tips for prospective students The best tip that i have for any prospective student is to realize that things are much different in college and you should make sure you have good time management as well as organizational skills.

Categories Comments Campus Safety JSU's campus is a very safe place. There are always university police driving around and there are emergency poles placed all throughout the campus.
Greek Life I am not personally involved in the Greek Life, but I have friends who are and they seem to love it. The sisterhood that is gained by joining a sorority are the kind that will last the rest of you life.
Clubs and Activities There are so many clubs and activities to get involved in at JSU. There is SGA, Freshman Forum (for incoming freshmen), BCM and other religious groups, there are any kind of intramural sport you can think of.
Great for these types of students JSU is great for students who work well in a very small classroom size. The highest classroom size I have had at JSU is probably about 30. It is where you are on name-to-name basis with the professors, which helps me personally.
What to do for fun Jacksonville is a small, conservative town, so there isn't much to do actually off campus. But on campus there is always something going on. There is always a party somewhere, or a sporting event, or an SGA event.
Food and Dining The food at Jacksonville State University is pretty good also. There aren't that many choices to chose from, but the ones there is are amazing. My favorite at Jacksonville State University is WOW wings. They never fail to amaze me.
Dorm Life Dorm life at Jacksonville State University is so much fun. The Resident Assistants always have different activities planned and help us get involved at any chance they get.
Academic Rigor The classes at JSU are not exactly a cake-walk. They are challenging and will test you to the best of your ability. The professors I have had so far have been very caring and understanding through various situations, but in order to receive quality grades, you have to work hard and earn them.
Tips for prospective students My tips for prospective students for Jacksonville State University is to get involved. Getting involved with different organizations makes the college experience that much better. There are so many fun activities planned throughout the school year.
In three sentences I love Jacksonville State University. There are so many opportunities to get involved, and there so many groups that I am able to be a part of. So far college has been a great experience for me, and I am excited to continue my education at Jacksonville State University.

Greek Life I wanted to be in one, but i don't have the funds to do it.
Clubs and Activities Try to join one club this year to be more involve in my school.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus no traditions.
Bang for the buck The teacher gives us challenges every day we come to class, and they work their hardest to give us the tools we need to succeed.
What to do for fun Go to housing events like can food drive, meet and greet, or J-day.
Food and Dining The dinning service is ok, but it could be a lot better if they had more money for better cooks.
Dorm Life The dorm life is very bad. therefore, dorms are very old and not stable, their are bugs in your room. You do not have your on control of your Ac/heating system.
Academic Rigor It has great academic programs, and a higher percentage of success rate in Alabama.
Tips for prospective students Its a great school for nursing and criminal justice majors.
In three sentences Jacksonville state has great academics. Excellent teachers to provide the tools of success. Human resources needs to be upgraded.

Categories Comments Campus Safety UPD is right on campus. Be careful where you park, they will give out tickets if you are not in your designated zone or if you park in handicapped spots that are not marked well.
Greek Life Greek life is absolutely amazing. I am a Phi Mu and it is the best decision I have ever made. When you do not have the money to go home, or live too far away, there are always sisters there to hang out with and who will be there as a shoulder to cry on or an ear to listen to any problems. Greek life is one of the ways to meet many new friends at JSU, without it I would have probably stayed in my dorm the whole year.
Clubs and Activities Greek organizations, Freshman Forum, Ambassadors, BCM.
Great for these types of students JSU is great for those who do not want to be in a big city going to school, are planning on going into education or nursing, and would consider going Greek without having to deal with the politics of biggers universities.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Jefferson's restaurant right on campus is a must for anyone at Jax State. Its has the college feel and has been around for bout 20 years.
Bang for the buck At JSU, you get a great education in the college-town setting. Everything is right there when you need it, the most you have to go is about three miles across campus.
What to do for fun I went Greek for fun, and it was the best decision of my life. There are also sports teams and many organizations such as Freshman Forum, BCM, and Ambssadors.
Food and Dining JSU has many different dining options. With the meal plan, the caf and diner are available with yummy choices everyday. If you recieve flex dollars with yourr meal plan, WOW wingery is open and amazing, especially late at night, and there is a Chick-fil-a and Baja Fresh in the TMB,
Dorm Life Make sure that you know your room-mate before coming, or set up a schedule for being quiet and not disturbing each other.
Academic Rigor The academics are fairly easy, depending on which professor you have and what subject it is.
Tips for prospective students I would have to tell future students that you do actually have to study for class. It is harder than high school, espeecially to those ho did not have to study at all. Also, actually go to class, you get points for small things like that and you can only skip classes so many times before you recieve no credit for it.
In three sentences JSU is a small campus built on many hills. I would rate JSU with five stars because of the small class sizes and how the teachers rreally try to work with the students. This is an overall great college with a great campus.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There are tons of things you could do for fun such as swimming, tennis, ping pong, basketball, gym, dance classes, racquetball and ultimate frisbee. JSU also offers a transit system that will take you to the nearby bars, stores, and restaurants.
Food and Dining The food is great. You have tons of options and they aren't outrageously far from the dorms.
Dorm Life The dorm life is average. The rooms are bigger than what you'd find at most colleges. However, the bathrooms leave much to be desired.
Academic Rigor I won't lie to you, the classes can take its toll. However, the teachers aare willing to help yhou and they get to know you personally; which is something that you can't say at most big colleges.
Tips for prospective students JSU is in a small town, but that doesn't been there isn't anything to do. The only problem is you have to take the first step. If you don't plan on getting involved such as sports, Greek life, clubs, SGA, etc. then JSU is not for you because you will be bored out your mind.
In three sentences JSU is a school that makes you feel right at home from the very first day. There are tons of interesting people here and lots of fun activities to get involved in. JSU has been an eye opener for me and has given me a great taste of what the real world has to offer.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Sadly there is very little to do for fun. The campus hold some events are called Fun but its not really that fun. The only bonus is that they usually give you food at these events so my advice is to go anyways for the food.
Food and Dining We have the TMB which is pretty good until you run out of flex bucks later on in the semester. Then its Dining Hall everyday. The food is pretty good most day. My favorite is the omelets they cook every morning.
Dorm Life The dorms open and close at 12am and 12pm. Its okay because I wouldn't like my roommate to have people staying over all night. And in almost all the dorm except Sparkman( female opinion, co-ed dorm) which gives each person their own room with adjoining bath.
Academic Rigor You could probably still pull a B in most classes and still party every night. That is, if you are not taking something like a hard math class or something like Biology.
Tips for prospective students Definitely, visit the school before making your decision. Take a tour and definitely tour the dorms if you can. DO NOT PICK CURTISS HALL (females!!!) it is the oldest dorm and does not come equipped with wifi. FITZ its so much better with far more room for the same price.
In three sentences If you like universities that is in the country with very few people. The view is also beautiful and the people are nice

Categories Comments Campus Safety Everywhere I go there are these blue poles that if there is an emergency you can call the campus police. Talking about the campus police, you have to make sure you park in the correct parking zones, have your parking decal exactly where it is supposed to be even if you are in the right parking zone they will give you a ticket.
Greek Life I am not a Greek but a friend of mine used to be. She said it is a great way to meet girls with the same interests as you.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Every Tuesday night a bunch of people go to Loco Mex for trivia. It is always fun. We also go and play tennis at the coliseum. It's a great way to get exercise, and get a tan.
Bang for the buck Tuition at JSU is expensive for every year I have been here tuition has gone up. I am just glad I only have a couple more semesters, it is getting harder to pay for tuition AND books AND rent.
What to do for fun Jacksonville is a very small town mostly we either go to eat or when it's football season we all tailgate and go to the game. I do enjoy that. But mainly we have to go to Oxford, which is only about 30 min away.
Food and Dining The food is good but it isn't the most healthy. They have a pizza section, sandwich, oriental, and a section for the regular fried foods. However there is a salad bar but it isn't very fresh.
Dorm Life For me I only stayed in the dorm for one year. And it was less than perfect. My roommate did drugs and would bring boys back to the room to spend the night. Also late at night people would run up and down the hall screaming and being loud.
Academic Rigor The academic part of Jacksonville State University is a great one. There are so many ways to get the grades you want. JSU has a student center where students can sign up for a tutor. I signed up for one to help me in Calculus and a science class. They are all very knowledgeable about what you are learning, and can put it into words that help you understand.
Tips for prospective students Jacksonville State University is a fantastic school. The advisors do a wonderful job. They will email you and ask you about classes you are taking. They really do want the best for you. The students are a great addition as well. It is easy for any student new or old to get involved in something.
In three sentences This school has a wonderful communications program. The teachers are always very willing to help a student in need of extra attention. There is something for everyone to get involved in.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Well JSU is pretty much in the middle of a very small community so you fill most of your time to your course. Luckily there are activities on campus and Atlanta, GA , Birmingham,AL , and Huntsville, Al isnt far.
Food and Dining Well, it's a step above cafeteria food more options. My grade school food was okay depending on the day. So you wont too discouraged!
Dorm Life Dorm life is what you make it! I love my dorm life experience. I live in the International House, and its filled with many great people from all around the world! Dont take any experince for granted.
Academic Rigor It's sometimes very tough depending on the class and the expectations of the professor. Studying ahead and being well prepared in advance for any course will result in great success. Even if that includes research on the actual subject.
Tips for prospective students Make sure that you all know how to study well and not to just get through a test. The key in getting through your courses is to KNOW the material, not to memorize it all.
In three sentences Jacksonville is a very expensive and authoritarian type of institute. It's a very friendly campus outside of the classrooms and billing offices. Education and success is the main overall goal for students and teachers.

Categories Comments Campus Safety JPD is pretty good with, cracking down on us. kind of annoying but other than that hey do their job well.
Greek Life Greek life is awesome ! Im pretty cool with all the greeks. this passed year id have to say that omega psi phi frat ran the yard. The kappas where cool, And the sigmas where great when they crossed. I loved hanging out at the frat houses ! it was awesome to see how they partied Thursday nights. Which is considered party night.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Everyone usually hangs out in the quad, which is just in front of W.O.W and the cafe. its a very nice scenery to just lay out and be comfortable.
What to do for fun What to do for fun? Jacksonville has a lot of what we call it mixers, some thrown by the D9, some thrown by the sororities. Or even by SGA. they all where fun. But they get you cause they always make you pay to get in!
Food and Dining The food is great ! W.O.W food is good its just like going to your neighborhood chicken joint. All the food in the TMB is great, i never had any problems. As in being sick and or not liking it.
Dorm Life I lived in fitzpatrick hall. The dorm was great but the females you live with are disgusting. Curtis was nice and lean but again its not where you staying its who you are staying with. They had a butt load of drama. Stadium was good they had 24 hour visitation.. i just don't like the fact that people have to check in. the same with sparkman, logan, dixin, and crow. but other than all that the rooms are moderate, and they have a home feel.
Academic Rigor overall, I know a lot of people that made deans list. Where there is a will, there is a way. If you want to be succeed then you will.
Tips for prospective students Don't get caught up in partying all the time. Your school work is whats best for you. Always study. Because if you don't, they will take away your financial aid
In three sentences Jacksonville State University is a great, people friendly school. But some or their professors teach horrible. Its a great party school though.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The Jacksonville State police are on the ball. They are there every time you need them and they are very helpful.
Great for these types of students Nursing majors should definitely check out Jacksonville State, we have a wonderful and rigorous program.
Bang for the buck Tuition has recently gone up and I haven't been affected positively by this.
What to do for fun There are intra-mural sports, clubs, activities put together by the sororities and fraternities, and lots of other activities that the university puts together for the students. The drama students put on a lot of wonderful plays. There are lots of sports competitions that you can either participate in or have fun watching.
Food and Dining They have a wonderful cafeteria with lots of choices that are always fresh.
Dorm Life I haven't lived in the dorms but I hear that they are tolerable.
Academic Rigor Academics are high on the priority list at JSU. That is the number one focus of Jacksonville State.
Tips for prospective students Make sure to apply for your classes early so that you can get the schedule you want. Constantly check your e-mail because this is where the majority of information is provided to the students. Enjoy your time in college, there are lots of on campus opportunities in extra curricular activities
In three sentences Small class sizes make it easy to talk to your teachers and ask questions in class. I've loved the atmosphere around campus the four years I've been attending school at JSU. The nursing program is amazing.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Nothing to worry about here.
Greek Life Plenty of fraternities to choose from. These guys are a lot of fun.
What to do for fun The local fraternities provide plenty of options for your nite life. Or you can check out the Drama Department's productions, sporting events, or the musical productions. Our football team is really good by the way. I mean, we beat Ole Miss last year! Go Gamecocks! Also, the Drama students are very talented and entertaining, and our music department puts on some great jazz shows.
Food and Dining The school has plenty of options to choose from as far as this goes. There are several places to get some good wings or BBQ.
Dorm Life I wouldn't really know because I live off-campus, but all of my friends that live in the dorms seem to really like it. The dorms are very well furnished and affordable.
Academic Rigor The University offers some pretty tough classes, but as long as you are dedicated and study hard, then the classes are pretty manageable.
Tips for prospective students Anyone looking for a good business school to attend should look into Jacksonville State University. It's rated in the Top 300 Business Schools in America in the Princeton Review and its accredited with the AACSB International.
In three sentences Jacksonville State University is very conveniently located for me since I already live in the area, but what I like most are the professors. In the business school, all of the professors have professional experience in their fields. This definitely helps with the learning experience because the professors know what they are talking about, and can offer very practical advice for up and coming students.

Clubs and Activities Any type of club you might be interested in joining, Jacksonville has it. If not, they do have a way where you can start your own, I believe.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Football is a super big thing here. Tailgating before the home games are usually what most of the students do. It's fun to socialize and you get the chance to meet new people.
Bang for the buck The small town helps to keep people focused and out of trouble.
Food and Dining The cafe has a wide slection of food for all meals. The diner has food that is cooked to order, making it fresh. And the TMB has great food, the just do not have the best hours to stay open on the weekends.
Dorm Life Freshman year stinks because you have to stay in a dorm. After freshman year though, it gets better. There are many one/two bedroom apartments to choose from. on campus.
Academic Rigor The classes are small making the student to teach ratio low. Teachers do get the chance to learn your name, and are there for you if you need extra help.
Tips for prospective students If you do not like to be out in the country, this is not the school for you. Otherwise it is a great place! Jacksonville is a small old fashion town. The good thing about that is, you do not have any distractions like you would have in bigger cities.

Categories Comments Campus Safety This campus is very big on preventing the consumption of alcohol and illegal drugs. I strongly support that and approve of their prevention methods!
Great for these types of students If you're in for some Christian fellowship, I recommend the BCM (Baptist Campus Ministry). Personally, I'm Pentecostal but, I still enjoy spending time fellowshipping with fellow believers. They also have a Tuesday night church service at 7pm called Celebration. Awesome experience!
What to do for fun I personally like going to the BCM (Baptist Campus Ministry). I spend most of my free time there. There is also a mall about 20 minutes away from the campus. There is also different happenings across campus weekly.
Food and Dining There is a very wide variety of food options available here. I just so happen to like them all!
Dorm Life The dorms could always be prettier and the mattresses could always be softer but, I am so thankful that I have a place to sleep and that I don't have to provide my own mattress! And besides, I'd rather have my money go to my education first and foremost!
Academic Rigor Every professor that I've known is very well equipped. Because of that, I feel I will also be well equipped!
Tips for prospective students Work hard and dig in to EVERYTHING you do. The curriculum is not hard to follow but you will gain so much more from it is you just apply yourself!

Categories Comments What to do for fun There are tons of clubs and organizations to join. There are sororities and fraternities. The Marching Southerners, which is our band, is an amazing organization, they travel every where. The Queen personally invited the Southerners to perform in her parade last year!
Food and Dining Our campus caffeteria is so good. The staff is super friendly and interacts with the students. The food is good and fresh, its all you can eat and there is a lot of variety.
Dorm Life The dorms are nice, certainly big enough for roommates to share comfortably. The housing staff works hard to keep the resident halls clean and nice. The resident assistants are very helpful and love getting student input on what they can do to keep their residents interested and make dorm life more fun.
Academic Rigor The staff is very friendly and always willing to help students that have questions. The classes are manageable and there are tutoring centers for students.
Tips for prospective students The faculty and staff around campus will answer any and all questions that the students have, and trust me I have a lot. The campus is big and safe for the students. We have some of the best professors and programs in the state. There are lots of areas to hang with friends and wifi all over campus for homework.

Categories Comments Campus Safety JPD and UPD are always on call and ready to go. The University Police Department really has its hands full. They check up on students whose parents call, they are called (occasionally) to the dorms themselves to break-up potential fights, and the give parking tickets. If you park in the wrong zone, you will get a parking ticket of $25, end of story. If you get an undeserved ticket you can either take it to UPD or appeal it. There are also emergency call stations set-up around campus, they are big and red and light up at night; however, there isn't one by the stadium.
Greek Life JSU has many Greek organizations. Sigma Alpha Iota, Kappa Kappa Psi, Phi Mu Alpha, Theta Zeta, Kappa Alpha Kappa, and at least 10 others.
Clubs and Activities There are lots of clubs like NCAACP, Environment, Quidditch, and way to many for me to name. There is a Potters Guild, and a rifle team. You can ask the SGA for a full list of clubs and organizations. There is also an activities calendar on the JSU website.
Great for these types of students Any.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The Marching Southerners sing I'll Fly away. There is also Germania Springs and the Mountain that you can go to. Kitty Stone Elementary isn't far so if you are interested in pursuing Elementary Education you may student teach there. There are also lots of businesses around and some of the professionals, such as doctors and optometrists, will let you shadow them to see what their jobs are like.
What to do for fun Jacksonville almost always has a sporting event or concert or drama to go to; however, if those things do not interest you the nearest mall is 30 minutes away, but you have two to choose from. Both malls have a Cinema and various shops, the one in Oxford has an arcade separate from the cinema while the one in Gadsden has the arcade in the cinema. There is also a drive-in theater.
Food and Dining If you live on campus and have a meal plan its great. I have the 8 meals with 350 flex and I can eat anywhere on campus. Several friends have the block 70 meals and 650 flex and I never hear them complain... the only thing is the meals only apply in the Dinner and the Cafe. You have to use flex everywhere else on campus. The food is usually very good and everyone can find something to eat.
Dorm Life It really depends on which dorm you are in and who your roommate(s) are. Last year I stayed in Fitzpatrick, it is a shared dorm (2 people) and has a community bathroom. This year I am in Stadium Towers, it is also a shared dorm (4 people), but everyone gets her own room and the bathrooms are shared between two people. Stadium is also co-ed with boys and girls on the same floor but in different dorm, such as four girls in one dorm nroom and four guys in the dorm room across the hall.
Academic Rigor Some classes are extremely hard, some extremely easy, others fall in-between. Most Professors are willing to help students who are struggling and the University offers free tutoring to those that need it.
Tips for prospective students The campus is small, but, there are classes in buildings that are farther away, the day before classes start, find all the buildings you have classes in. Check your Professors on Rate My Professor, if you Professor isn't listed then ask someone who has had the class. Check your GEM everyday, if something is wrong with your information that is the only way you'll know. Take shower shoes.
In three sentences Jacksonville State University is a great University. The Professors really care and are willing to work with the students. Jacksonville is also very diverse, there are a lot of International students on campus.

Great for these types of students I recommend this college for anyone who does not want to be in a crowded college. It is a wonderfully sized campus. It's not to big and not to small.
Bang for the buck Jacksonville costs much less than more major universities, but is far superior to the more cheap ones.
What to do for fun Although there is little in Jacksonville itself other than the clubs and such colleges offer, there are several larger cities within driving distance.
Tips for prospective students Try to get at least a 20 on the A.C.T. otherwise you are required to take an additional class in order to gain acceptance and it does not give credits of any kind.
In three sentences Perfectly sized campus. Dedicated and passionate teachers. Great food!

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus police are not strict on loud noise or patrolling the campus at night. Sometimes it seems that they only write parking tickets. I never feel unsafe on campus, though. Everyone pretty much keeps to themselves. Be smart; don't leave expensive things in your car that are visible. It's good to be cautious wherever you go, but you don't have anything to be specifically worried about at JSU.
Greek Life If you choose Greek Life, you will make friends that will be in your life forever. Each chapter is involved in cheering on JSU's sports teams and philanthropic events. If you want the best out of your personal college experience at JSU, I encourage you to join a Greek chapter.
Clubs and Activities One downfall of JSU is if you are not interested in Greek life (Fraternities/Sororities), The Marching Southerners, or campus ministries (Baptist/Methodist) then there is not a lot to be active in. those programs are great to be involved in, but if you don't wish to be in either, then you have to dig deep to find a group to be involved in.
Great for these types of students JSU is great for outgoing and friendly students that want to get what they need for a successful career, and have a lot of fun along the way.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Unusual traditions: Some fraternities and sororities make their new pledges ride around the dorm parking lots late at night and make them yell their Greek chant. It can be a little annoying, but it's all in good fun. Unusual locations: the library 12th and 8th floor. These floors are open outside so you can stand outside and see the entire campus! It's the closest thing to the mountain, and really beautiful.
Bang for the buck JSU is one of the most affordable colleges around Alabama. Youget the credentials you need and the staff is always willing to help you get where you need to be; both academically and physically. I wish there was more scheduled activities on campus, but that may be a personal thing.
What to do for fun The actual town of Jacksonville is very small, so there is not much there to do. But right behind the library is the mountain. Several of my friends and I love to ride up Mountain Street and get on top of the mountain. You can see for miles! It's a great spot to hang out or just relax after an exam. Any sports game is entertaining, too. You have to see our basketball team! My friends and I try to make as many games as we can.
Food and Dining Oh man, the dining hall has some of the BEST food!! It has never tasted like lunch room food. Hopper Dining Hall has everything from your mama's home cooking, to soups and salads, and even steaks sometimes! The Dining Hall also has special events where you can get breakfast at midnight, or a full Thanksgiving meal! There is also a Chikfila on campus, which is awesome!!
Dorm Life One thing that is slightly annoying is that if you live in Stadium, the RA's make announcements through speakers located in your room. they are loud and will wake you up in the morning or at night. :( Other than that, each dorm hall has a friendly staff. Your first week will be crazy because everyone is excited to be out of the house and on their own. But just wait a little while, and everything will calm down to normal. Just make sure you buy some shower flip flops because the bathrooms are sometimes gross!
Academic Rigor At JSU, the professors want you to get the most out of the class since you're paying a LOT of money for it. I have learned things from classes I thought I would hate, and still remember some cool things I learned!
Tips for prospective students Go to as many classes as you can. It is so much easier just to wake up on time, go to class, take your OWN notes, and hear the lecture for yourself instead of getting that information from someone else. Get a bike! You will waste so much gas driving between buildings. Walk, or get a two wheel ride!
In three sentences JSU is my home away from home. The campus is small enough to remember more than a couple of people, but large enough to meet new faces often. It reminds me of my small-town home.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus police are available 24/7. They are constantly patrolling the campus. Crime is not high on campus.
Greek Life I am actually in a sorority on campus. Greek life here is not like it is at other schools. Here we are like a family. We support each other in almost everything we do.
Clubs and Activities Again, by becoming involved you make new friends and have great experiences.
Great for these types of students Any student will feel welcome on this campus.
Bang for the buck You definitely get what you pay for if not more. This campus has really helped me grow as a person as well as academically.
What to do for fun Get involved. The main focus other than academics on this campus is the unity through organizations and other events. By being involved you meet people and form friendships that you might not have found otherwise.
Food and Dining The food here is great. If you do not like the Dining Hall, there are many other options.
Dorm Life I absolutely love my dorm here at Jacksonville State University. The facilities are clean and the people are super friendly. There is also a good size living space.
Academic Rigor You must study. I do not believe that any class is just an easy A class.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you are ready to STUDY.
In three sentences Jacksonville State University is, in my opinion, one of the best universities around. It has a friendly atmosphere as well as a big strive for academic excellence.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I feel JSU is a very safe campus. there are so many street lights and buildings located around campus that you are never anywhere that would make you feel unsafe. The UPD is always one the lookout (ALWAYS, meaning parking, safety, etc.) They have your back...
Greek Life Greek Life here at JSU is so awesome! I was a part of Zeta Tau Alpha for my first semester. I loved everything I got out of it. While It was not something I continued in, I still recommend going greek for anyone that is interested. You learn so much that prepares you for the real world and you get a bunch of incredibly sisters or brothers for the rest of your life. You have a ton of fun making floats for homecoming or participating in different types of pageants held by the other sororities or fraternities. Because JSU is a smaller school, the chapters are not huge and that way you can know every single one of your sisters/brothers so much easier that you would had a large university.
Clubs and Activities JSU offers soooo many clubs and activities to be a part of. You can ask anyone and they will probably list multiple things they are involved it. You don't have to be super outgoing or talkative to be a part of them either. There is a place for EVERYONE.
Great for these types of students If you aren't too sure that you want to leave home or not, Jacksonville is the perfect place to be. It is small enough to not be too scary and big enough to still feel apart of that college feel. It is so much fun and I love being here.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Being a freshman, I haven't been able to really see all the traditions at JSU. I was in a sorority for the first semester and I got to see a lot of the student participation in things that go on on campus.
Bang for the buck Yes, it is college. yes, tuition is expensive, but the college experience that comes from being here at JSU is so worth it. I believe the size of the University really helps with that. It is just big enough to have that university feel and it is just small enough to really be involved with as much as you want. If you work hard enough you can definitely be recognized here. It is lie living in a small town, you start to recognize everyone's face after a little bit so you begin to feel comfortable and become yourself in everything you do.
What to do for fun If you aren't into the whole sorority or fraternity thing (which really is so fun), there are so many other things to do for fun on campus. Student Activities are held weekly and we do things such as Movies on Dillion Field or maybe dress up as historical figures for Black History Month. There are also so many sports here at JSU and most of the time there is a game going on which you get into FREE with your Student ID. THere are so many clubs to join too. Anywhere from the Earth and Nature Club to SAC (student activities club) or maybe the BCM (Baptist Student Ministry). Whatever you are interested in we are sure to have something for you here!
Food and Dining The food is great here! You have so many options to choose from. If you are living in a dorm, you have to get a meal plan. If you are like me, 5 foot 2 inches and cant eat your weight every single meal, you can always buy other people's food with your flex and show love to the people that maybe can't afford lunch at the TMB. It is a little expensive, but you have to pay it considering you live in the dorms. But breakfast in the cafeteria on the weekends is by far the best! It is delicious!
Dorm Life Yes, as a freshman, you have to live in the dorms. I live in Logan and it is actually not that bad. If you have someone you get a long with as a roommate then it will be much easier to handle. They are safe and suitable for living there for a year. No worries are needed, it is only for 9 months.
Academic Rigor The teachers and professors could not be more friendly and helpful. I have not had one that was not willing to help me with my grades if I was struggling.
Tips for prospective students Really try to get involved on campus when you start as a freshman. There are so many areas to plug in and there is always something out there regardless of what you do or who you are.
In three sentences The campus is absolutely beautiful and well laid out. I love the size of the university and the classrooms have a perfect number of students, not too many or not too few. All the sports are free to go to on campus with your ID so it is easy to show support when you are no longer an athlete (retired softball syndrome).

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is pretty safe. The UPD is right by the campus, and there are always officers on campus as well.
Greek Life I am not apart of Greek Life yet, but from what I have seen from the outside looking in, they look like they have a great time. I love the bond they share.
Clubs and Activities The clubs and activities are fun to participate in! On and off campus.
Great for these types of students Great for the laid back student who loves to chill out, but still have fun here and there.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I haven't witnessed anything unusual on campus yet ! lol Everyone is just having fun.
Bang for the buck Definitely bang for your buck! Tuition isn't as high as others so it is definitely worth it.
What to do for fun Like I said before, the campus always has different activities going on. From the spring football game, to One Day w/o Shoes, to the Arrive Alive tour. There is always something.
Food and Dining The food on campus is great. They have a good variety of things to eat. From the fast food places to the cafe. There are also surrounding local restaurants.
Dorm Life Dorm life isn't too bad. Depends on where you live. I am about to move out of Curtiss Hall. It has its ups and downs, but that comes with the college experience.
Academic Rigor I think JSU is the same as any other college. You just have to be on top of your work if you want to stay on track.
Tips for prospective students Here at JSU, we start school late and end early. You have to be able to keep up with your work. This is college so it is your responsibility only to handle your business. Be apart of something! Don't just be a student .
In three sentences JSU is a great place to continue your education. It is a great laid back place, but still has lots of things to do around campus. There are tons of organizations and clubs to be apart of.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There is always a police officer roaming the campus day or night, and there a emergency poles around campus for if you have an accident or anything you can call the university police from the emergency phone and they will be there.
Greek Life I plan to join a Delta Sigma Theta sorority at JSU this summer, There are many others to be involved with though, including 5 sororities and 6 fraternities. I already know I am going to enjoy it.
Clubs and Activities There are so may to choose from you could never be bored.
Great for these types of students Jacksonville State University is a great school for anyone that makes you feel good as a group and not a single number. Most college, students tend be isolated socially, however, JSU is not one of them.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Gamecock tailgating is a huge tradition at JSU! There are also many clubs, fraternities, and sororities participate in many types of social gatherings to participate in.
Bang for the buck I'm so glad i chose this school to go to, because i could not imagine going anywhere else!
What to do for fun For fun, you can do intramural sports or go to the Stephenson hall and play basketball, swim, or even workout.
Food and Dining The food is very tasty. There is always something different every day of every week. They have multiple places you can choose to eat from.
Dorm Life There are many dorms and apartments at jsu. All offer a very comfortable and clean living environment. I most definitely will learn a lot. This is such a great school. I've been there twice and learned a lot from my visit. Everyone is friendly and helpful. I think everyone is great!
Academic Rigor Jacksonville offers a lot of majors, and also offers a great nursing and education program, but if either are not your thing; it also has great departments for other majors. All classes are on college levels, but since it's a smaller school, classes are smaller and the teachers are more able to give one on one attention to those who are in need. JSU also has a tutoring program that I recently learned about.
Tips for prospective students When applying to Jacksonville State University, it's important to note the application deadline is rolling. Scores for either the ACT or SAT test are due September 9. The application fee at Jacksonville State University is $30. It is selective, with an acceptance rate of 83.7 percent.
