Anyone!!! Jacksonville is a great school that makes you feel good as a group and not a single number.

    Tips for prospective students

Some tips that I believe are highly important are to be on time to class, don't bum your first test, and have fun but keep your grades up so you dont have to end up dropping any classes or getting a NC (no credit) for the class. First off, being on time is important because some teachers don't allow tardys and you don't want to get an absence just because you were 5 minutes late. Second, I learned this the hard way. Aim high for your first test. Study, Study, Study!!! Some teachers only have 3 tests for the entire semester so if you mess up on one you may not be able to pull out with that A you wanted. So take the first test seriously and learn from the test so you recognize how the format of the tests are. Last but not least have fun and keep your grades up because college is fun and everything but remember you don't want to be in college for the rest of your life just because you goofed of in Biology class.

    Bang for the buck

From financial aid to scholarships to grants, you can apply and hopefully you will receive some financial help. You just have to apply yourself because nothing is given to you on a silver platter without a little effort.

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy this school. Everything you can walk to and now they have added a new transit system which will help students who have yet to get a car, especially on those rainy, cold days :) JSU has different activities from football games to fashion shows. They have activities for everyone interests.

    Am learning a lot

Jacksonville is a great school where you get the one on one attention from your teachers that many big universities are not capable of. JSU offers a lot of different programs and major choices. Most likely JSU has the degree you want.

Be social. It will be a great way to meet new people and make great friends. I also recommend giving the dorms a try. They're not as bad as some people say it is.

    Am enjoying being here

It's a great place here. The campus here isn't too big or too small which makes places around town relatively easy to walk to.

    Am learning a lot

The teachers here are great and are definitely willing to help you out with whatever needs you might have.

Jacksonville State University is a very friendly campus. JSU is a people campus. Once you are here the upperclassmen and faculty make you feel welcomed. This place feels like home. If you are just that country boy/girl...JSU is where you're going! After all, we are just good ole Southerners!

    Tips for prospective students

Do not come here if you think its all about the parties and the just show ups. Plan on doing a lot of studying because you are going to need it. Once here, I advise all students to get involved in some sort of activity/ organization, or your four years+ here will be the most boring years you've experienced in your lifetime. Also plan your schedule at times that you are most comfortable.

    Bang for the buck

Being here has not shown me that I have gotten all of my money's worth. Although I can say...the semester that i have almost completed has been met at my standards.

    Am enjoying being here

I love the JSU campus. It is not as crowded and cluttered as most universities. The only thing that I do not like is that you have to drive about 20 minutes to get to fun. Though that may be to keep the students here more focused.

    Am learning a lot

Before I decided on Jacksonville State University, many people had told me that JSU meant just show up. Meaning all you had to do was just come to class and you would pass. Being here for almost a semester has proved their theory wrong. I have to attend all of my classes regularly to stay caught up with whats going on.

Everyone! JSU has so much to offer to many different types of students. We have a variety of student organizations with different goals and aspects on life, but we all have one thing in common. We're Cocky and we work all work together to make sure everyone on campus feels at home.

    Tips for prospective students

If you want to see a smiling face everywhere you go as long as you remain on campus, I recommend you to come to Jacksonville State University. Though JSU is located in a small town, I still recommend you to get your priorities in order. It's great to have fun (and I definitely expect you to do so), but you always have to make yourself realize that school is your number one priority. It's your full-time job for at least 4 years.

    Bang for the buck

JSU is a very pretty campus and has just as many ammenities, if not more, for its' students as far more expensive schools.

    Am enjoying being here

Since I've stepped on campus as a student I have not regretted it for one second. I have met my best friends and bridesmaids, as well as those who have played a role, whether they know it or not, in the shaping of my life. There's not much to do around campus, but if you get involved you will never be bored if you that's what you choose!

    Am learning a lot

Jacksonville has an assortment of classes that will cater to any student's needs and wants. The teachers care about you as a person, not just as a number.

Great for these types of students

At about 10,000 students, it has all the perks of a large university but the feel of a smaller school Faculty are wonderful. Great athletics- the best band program anywhere! Greek organizations for the most part are also great. Not too snobby.

    Tips for prospective students

JSU may not even be on your radar, but give it a serious look.

    Bang for the buck

Trmendous value. You can even get in-state tuition if you follow JSU's instructions.

    Am enjoying being here

There's really something here for everybody. If you're looking for a shiny new school in a city environment, it's not for you. But it really is a very comfortable place where everything you need to be happy and get a great education is here.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved in something. People are very acepting & friendly. Greeks are pretty much cool, too. Sports & band are very good. While the campus and town don't look like much, it's not just safe but quite charming. Scratch beneath the surface and you'll probably find it's a great place to go to college.

Great for these types of students

jsu is a great school for nursing students, future teachers, and any type of sport activity.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

a library walk through is a big tradition done by many seniors of jsu before graduating.

    Bang for the buck

tuition is a little pricey. it is also going up next semester in order to pay for a baseball stadium. this is very unfair to the students because not all students participate in baseball.

    What to do for fun

there are many things to do for fun at jsu. many of the clubs, fraternities, and sororities participate in many types of social gatherings.

    Food and Dining

the dining hall at jsu offers a great variety of delicious foods. there are also many restaurants in the city to choose from.

    Dorm Life

there are many dorms and apartments at jsu. all offer a very comfortable living environment.

    Academic Rigor

academic rigor is different for classes and majors. sometimes the teachers seem to only give busy work that is pointless. however, other times the work that is assigned is very meaningful and can be used in your major of study.

    Tips for prospective students

always be sure you get transfer guide and follow it you are first attending a 2 year college. sometimes the required classes for a major may be different.

    In three sentences

jsu is an all-around great school. the people there are very nice and easy to get along with. also, the teachers are very accessible and always willing to help.

    Campus Safety

not only are we located near jacksonville police department, we also have a upd where they keep eveyone in line.

    Greek Life

we have a great greek life, where each sorority and fraternity are all friends. we always stay involved with things on campus and being in a greek organization also helps you in the future past college.

    Clubs and Activities

many clubs are offered here, it just depends on finding the one (or more) right for you!

Great for these types of students

it's great for people interested in band, football, international students, students interested in greek life, and anyone wanting to be in a small campus and knowing everyone.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

one of the main places people go to here is loco mex, a newly opened mexican restaurant where you can always see people you know.

    Bang for the buck

i'm so glad i chose this school to go to, because i could not imagine going anywhere else!

    What to do for fun

i suggest greek life for anyone interested in coming here, because it is a great way to meet numerous people, especially if you're not involved in any sports. but even if you're not interested in joining a fraternity or sorority, there are plenty of other organizations to join. not only do we have great sports here, our band is known nationwide.

    Food and Dining

jacksonville state also has great food! if you get a meal plan you're able to dine in the cafe or the tmb. the cafe offers all sorts of foods to choose from and the tmb includes a chick-fil-a and baja express. it's great because there is always someone to go eat with you and you always see someone you know in either place.

    Dorm Life

since this is my first year here, i had to live in one of the girls doorms on campus. personally, i love it because i met so many new people that live in the same place as i do and am always around their smiling faces! plus, whenever i need anything from anyone, there is always someone right down the hall to help.

    Academic Rigor

jacksonville offers a lot of majors, and also offers a great nursing and education program. but if either are not your thing, it also has great departments for other majors. all classes are obviously on college levels, but since it's a smaller school, classes are smaller and the teachers are more able to give one on one attention.

    Tips for prospective students

i would suggest coming to a football game, or any of the preview days to make sure the college is right for you. also, make sure to check out the college's scholarships it offers beforehand and to apply to as many as possible.

    In three sentences

it is a great college with many opportunities to be active. there is a great greek life here and just that in itself will keep you busy. we also have outstanding sports and there is always something to do.

    Academic Rigor

Jacksonville State University pushes me to my fullest potential. They challange me, and keep me on my toes, while the staff is very supportive.

    Tips for prospective students

Go to all of your classes, do all the class work and all of the homework assigned.

    In three sentences

The school is very helpful when it comes to selecting my classes that i need. Unfortunately, they don't offer the classes that i need on a regular basis, so it's taking me longer to get my degree. They don't offer enough criminal justice-corrections classes on-line.

Campus police are available 24/7. They are constantly patrolling the campus. Crime is not high on campus.

    Greek Life

I am actually in a sorority on campus. Greek life here is not like it is at other schools. Here we are like a family. We support each other in almost everything we do.

    Clubs and Activities

Again, by becoming involved you make new friends and have great experiences.

Great for these types of students

Any student will feel welcome on this campus.

    Bang for the buck

You definitely get what you pay for if not more. This campus has really helped me grow as a person as well as academically.

    What to do for fun

Get involved. The main focus other than academics on this campus is the unity through organizations and other events. By being involved you meet people and form friendships that you might not have found otherwise.

    Food and Dining

The food here is great. If you do not like the Dining Hall, there are many other options.

    Dorm Life

I absolutely love my dorm here at Jacksonville State University. The facilities are clean and the people are super friendly. There is also a good size living space.

    Academic Rigor

You must study. I do not believe that any class is just an easy A class.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you are ready to STUDY.

    In three sentences

Jacksonville State University is, in my opinion, one of the best universities around. It has a friendly atmosphere as well as a big strive for academic excellence.

    What to do for fun

Well JSU is pretty much in the middle of a very small community so you fill most of your time to your course. Luckily there are activities on campus and Atlanta, GA , Birmingham,AL , and Huntsville, Al isnt far.

    Food and Dining

Well, it's a step above cafeteria food more options. My grade school food was okay depending on the day. So you wont too discouraged!

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is what you make it! I love my dorm life experience. I live in the International House, and its filled with many great people from all around the world! Dont take any experince for granted.

    Academic Rigor

It's sometimes very tough depending on the class and the expectations of the professor. Studying ahead and being well prepared in advance for any course will result in great success. Even if that includes research on the actual subject.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure that you all know how to study well and not to just get through a test. The key in getting through your courses is to KNOW the material, not to memorize it all.

    In three sentences

Jacksonville is a very expensive and authoritarian type of institute. It's a very friendly campus outside of the classrooms and billing offices. Education and success is the main overall goal for students and teachers.

    Campus Safety

I feel JSU is a very safe campus. there are so many street lights and buildings located around campus that you are never anywhere that would make you feel unsafe. The UPD is always on the lookout (ALWAYS, meaning parking, safety, etc.) They have your back...

    Greek Life

Greek Life here at JSU is so awesome! I was a part of Zeta Tau Alpha for my first semester. I loved everything I got out of it. While It was not something I continued in, I still recommend going greek for anyone that is interested. You learn so much that prepares you for the real world and you get a bunch of incredibly sisters or brothers for the rest of your life. You have a ton of fun making floats for homecoming or participating in different types of pageants held by the other sororities or fraternities. Because JSU is a smaller school, the chapters are not huge and that way you can know every single one of your sisters/brothers so much easier that you would had a large university.

    Clubs and Activities

JSU offers soooo many clubs and activities to be a part of. You can ask anyone and they will probably list multiple things they are involved it. You don't have to be super outgoing or talkative to be a part of them either. There is a place for EVERYONE.

Great for these types of students

If you aren't too sure that you want to leave home or not, Jacksonville is the perfect place to be. It is small enough to not be too scary and big enough to still feel apart of that college feel. It is so much fun and I love being here.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Being a freshman, I haven't been able to really see all the traditions at JSU. I was in a sorority for the first semester and I got to see a lot of the student participation in things that go on on campus.

    Bang for the buck

Yes, it is college. yes, tuition is expensive, but the college experience that comes from being here at JSU is so worth it. I believe the size of the University really helps with that. It is just big enough to have that university feel and it is just small enough to really be involved with as much as you want. If you work hard enough you can definitely be recognized here. It is like living in a small town, you start to recognize everyone's face after a little bit so you begin to feel comfortable and become yourself in everything you do.

    What to do for fun

If you aren't into the whole sorority or fraternity thing (which really is so fun), there are so many other things to do for fun on campus. Student Activities are held weekly and we do things such as Movies on Dillion Field or maybe dress up as historical figures for Black History Month. There are also so many sports here at JSU and most of the time there is a game going on which you get into FREE with your Student ID. THere are so many clubs to join too. Anywhere from the Earth and Nature Club to SAC (student activities club) or maybe the BCM (Baptist Student Ministry). Whatever you are interested in we are sure to have something for you here!

    Food and Dining

The food is great here! You have so many options to choose from. If you are living in a dorm, you have to get a meal plan. If you are like me, 5 foot 2 inches and cant eat your weight every single meal, you can always buy other people's food with your flex and show love to the people that maybe can't afford lunch at the TMB. It is a little expensive, but you have to pay it considering you live in the dorms. But breakfast in the cafeteria on the weekends is by far the best! It is delicious!

    Dorm Life

Yes, as a freshman, you have to live in the dorms. I lived in Logan and it is actually not that bad. If you have someone you get a long with as a roommate then it will be much easier to handle. They are safe and suitable for living there for a year. No worries are needed, it is only for 9 months.

    Academic Rigor

The teachers and professors could not be more friendly and helpful. I have not had one that was not willing to help me with my grades if I was struggling.

    Tips for prospective students

Really try to get involved on campus when you start as a freshman. There are so many areas to plug in and there is always something out there regardless of what you do or who you are.

    In three sentences

The campus is absolutely beautiful and well laid out. I love the size of the university and the classrooms have a perfect number of students, not too many or not too few. All the sports are free to go to on campus with your ID so it is easy to show support when you are no longer an athlete (retired softball syndrome).

The campus is pretty safe. The UPD is right by the campus, and there are always officers on campus as well.

    Greek Life

I am not apart of Greek Life yet, but from what I have seen from the outside looking in, they look like they have a great time. I love the bond they share.

    Clubs and Activities

The clubs and activities are fun to participate in! On and off campus.

Great for these types of students

Great for the laid back student who loves to chill out, but still have fun here and there.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

I haven't witnessed anything unusual on campus yet ! lol Everyone is just having fun.

    Bang for the buck

Definitely bang for your buck! Tuition isn't as high as others so it is definitely worth it.

    What to do for fun

Like I said before, the campus always has different activities going on. From the spring football game, to One Day w/o Shoes, to the Arrive Alive tour. There is always something.

    Food and Dining

The food on campus is great. They have a good variety of things to eat. From the fast food places to the cafe. There are also surrounding local restaurants.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life isn't too bad. Depends on where you live. I am about to move out of Curtiss Hall. It has its ups and downs, but that comes with the college experience.

    Academic Rigor

I think JSU is the same as any other college. You just have to be on top of your work if you want to stay on track.

    Tips for prospective students

Here at JSU, we start school late and end early. You have to be able to keep up with your work. This is college so it is your responsibility only to handle your business. Be apart of something! Don't just be a student .

    In three sentences

JSU is a great place to continue your education. It is a great laid back place, but still has lots of things to do around campus. There are tons of organizations and clubs to be apart of.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so may to choose from you could never be bored.

Great for these types of students

Jacksonville State University is a great school for anyone that makes you feel good as a group and not a single number. Most college, students tend be isolated socially, however, JSU is not one of them.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Gamecock tailgating is a huge tradition at JSU! There are also many clubs, fraternities, and sororities participate in many types of social gatherings to participate in.

    Bang for the buck

I'm so glad i chose this school to go to, because i could not imagine going anywhere else!

    What to do for fun

For fun, you can do intramural sports or go to the Stephenson hall and play basketball, swim, or even workout.

    Food and Dining

The food is very tasty. There is always something different every day of every week. They have multiple places you can choose to eat from.

    Dorm Life

There are many dorms and apartments at jsu. All offer a very comfortable and clean living environment. I most definitely will learn a lot. This is such a great school. I've been there twice and learned a lot from my visit. Everyone is friendly and helpful. I think everyone is great!

    Academic Rigor

Jacksonville offers a lot of majors, and also offers a great nursing and education program, but if either are not your thing; it also has great departments for other majors. All classes are on college levels, but since it's a smaller school, classes are smaller and the teachers are more able to give one on one attention to those who are in need. JSU also has a tutoring program that I recently learned about.

    Tips for prospective students

When applying to Jacksonville State University, it's important to note the application deadline is rolling. Scores for either the ACT or SAT test are due September 9. The application fee at Jacksonville State University is $30. It is selective, with an acceptance rate of 83.7 percent.

    What to do for fun

You can join clubs on campus. You can try out for a sport. You can also join intramural sports. There is a sandbox near the gym to play beach volleyball when the weather is nice. Football/ basketball games. Parties etc

    Food and Dining

The food is really good. There is a TMB on campus which is set up like a food court would look at a mall. They have a Chic-Fil-A, Baja Fresh (Mexican Restaurant), 155 grill which is like a pizza/ burger joint, and they have a place called Freshens that sells frozen yogurt and smoothies. I love Baja Fresh; they have really good quesadillas and fajitas. All of the restaurants except for Chic-Fil-A are set up like Subway, you tell them what you want and they make it. They dining hall (aka the cafe) is really good. They offer healthier options if you get tire of all the fast food. The Gamecock diner is also great. They have touch screens to choose your meal and they have flat screen TVs to watch TV while you're eating.

    Dorm Life

Dorms are definitely not a Manhattan penthouse. Don't expect too much. They are clean and the beds are extremely comfortable. You won't want to get out of bed some days. If you keep your room nasty of course you will have bugs. Just keep your room clean and make it your own.

    Academic Rigor

Classes are challenging in a good way. Just do your work and study and you should be fine.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply for scholarships because they are always helpful. Study especially hard your first semester because it is easy to party too much.

    In three sentences

Jacksonville State University is a great school. It has a big school feel in a small town. The teachers are very helpful. You will not be just a number at this university. The teachers know you by your name and classes are not too small or too large. The advisers will talk with you one on one and tell you how to transition into your college status each semester.

There are safety poles stationed throughout campus that have a button you can push to call campus police. They will come unlock your car, start your car if it breaks down or give you a ride to your dorm. I feel like it is a very safe campus.

    Greek Life

I am not a part of Greek Life, but all of the organizations are very popular and very involved.

    Clubs and Activities

From musical ensembles to intramural sports, there is something for everyone.

Great for these types of students

If you are a music major, come to Jacksonville. The Marching Southerners is a 400 person family that will blow you away with sound and talent.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Do not walk on the grass in the quad. There are sidewalks for a reason.

    Bang for the buck

The tuition cost is reasonable. Also, getting in state tuition as an out of state students is very easy. All I had to do was open a bank account in Alabama. All sporting events are free to current students if you show your i.d. and a lot of the restaurants in town give student discounts.

    What to do for fun

If you like being active, the Ladiga Trail runs through campus and is really great to ride bikes on. There is also a pool in the Coliseum. Oxford is only 20 minutes away and there is a movie theater and a mall.

    Food and Dining

The Cafeteria is not that bad! Try not to spend all of your flex dollars in the first week. Jazzman's cafe in the lobby of the library takes flex dollars. They have great coffee and pastries.

    Dorm Life

Be respectful of common space and sleep/study schedules. If you get a random roommate, give them a chance before you write them off as strange or weird.

    Academic Rigor

It really depends on your major and the professors you choose. I would recommend finding a current student in your major and getting them to help you when registering.

    Tips for prospective students

Do not bring all of your possessions to put in your dorm room. You will only use half of what you bring anyway. Get involved! There are plenty of opportunities with a wide variety of choices.

    In three sentences

I like Jacksonville State because it is not too small or too big. The University is known for Southern Hospitality, which is appealing to me. Being in the Marching Southerners has been the highlight of my college experience.

    Campus Safety

I have been a student for three years now and I can't recall one time where I have ever felt unsafe on campus, day or night. I would say that JSU has a very safe campus. People are friendly and I have no knowledge of any incidents taking place since I've been here. But keep in mind, you should always be cautious anywhere you go.

    Greek Life

I'm not involved in greek life but our greek organizations are very involved on campus. They have plenty of programs and events on campus for students to attend and get information in case they are interested in membership.

    Clubs and Activities

There are several clubs, organizations, and activities for students to join on campus. I am currently involved in a few organizations and I volunteer at the local Boys and Girls club on my own.

Great for these types of students

JSU is great for students pursuing a career in Education and anyone that wants to be active on campus. It is fairly easy for one to create an organization of your own and even easier for you to just find one to join.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

I'm not aware of unusual traditions on campus.

    Bang for the buck

One thing that I love the most in Jacksonville is the mountain top nearby. Its about 5 min away from campus but it takes maybe 10 min to get up the mountain top. It is simply beautiful day and night! You can see the entire campus and most of the city. People go up there very often and do whatever. I love it!

    What to do for fun

For fun, in Jacksonville, one must make friends and make fun amongst that group :p ...JSU is in a small town so there isn't a big city nearby with all types of places to go for fun. My recommendations are road trips! Plenty of road trips and just make new friends as much as possible. Have an open mind and be ready to try new things.

    Food and Dining

The food on campus is decent. Eventually you will tired of eating at the same places but that's college. We have a few new food shops that they've recently added on campus alongshide the ones we've had previously. Keep in mind there are fast food chains nearby.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life..... It's interesting to say the least. You never know what type of roommate or neighbor you'll have. The RA's are pretty cool for the most part. University Housing holds several programs and events for residents to attend and enjoy. Honestly, most of them are fun. I enjoyed my time spent in an campus dorm.

    Academic Rigor

The difficulty of your curriculum solely depends on the instructor. Some instructors are more lenient than others. Most will have office hours set up to offer help outside of class when you need it. It reallly helps to get acquainted with your professors.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are considering attending JSU, I would recommend that you learn to make fun. JSU is located within a small town so you and your friends have to make fun. The campus isn't very large so there is no excuse for not attending class. Get involved in as many activities as you can handle and stay focused on what's important.

    In three sentences

I give Jacksonville State University at an 8 out of 10. Although it is a wonderful college and has one of the most friendly campuses, it does not offer many options for certain majors such as things medically related. That having been said, my experiences at JSU have been awesome thus far and I would highly recommend attending.

JSU's campus is a very safe place. There are always university police driving around and there are emergency poles placed all throughout the campus.

Great for these types of students

JSU is great for students who work well in a very small classroom size. The highest classroom size I have had at JSU is probably about 30. It is where you are on name-to-name basis with the professors, which helps me personally.

    What to do for fun

Jacksonville is a small, conservative town, so there isn't much to do actually off campus. But on campus there is always something going on. There is always a party somewhere, or a sporting event, or an SGA event.

    Food and Dining

The food at Jacksonville State University is pretty good also. There aren't that many choices to chose from, but the ones there is are amazing. My favorite at Jacksonville State University is WOW wings. They never fail to amaze me.

UPD is right on campus. Be careful where you park, they will give out tickets if you are not in your designated zone or if you park in handicapped spots that are not marked well.

    Greek Life

Greek life is absolutely amazing. I am a Phi Mu and it is the best decision I have ever made. When you do not have the money to go home, or live too far away, there are always sisters there to hang out with and who will be there as a shoulder to cry on or an ear to listen to any problems. Greek life is one of the ways to meet many new friends at JSU, without it I would have probably stayed in my dorm the whole year.

    Clubs and Activities

Greek organizations, Freshman Forum, Ambassadors, BCM.

Great for these types of students

JSU is great for those who do not want to be in a big city going to school, are planning on going into education or nursing, and would consider going Greek without having to deal with the politics of biggers universities.

    What to do for fun

I went Greek for fun, and it was the best decision of my life. There are also sports teams and many organizations such as Freshman Forum, BCM, and Ambssadors.

    Food and Dining

JSU has many different dining options. With the meal plan, the caf and diner are available with yummy choices everyday. If you recieve flex dollars with yourr meal plan, WOW wingery is open and amazing, especially late at night, and there is a Chick-fil-a and Baja Fresh in the TMB,

    Dorm Life

Make sure that you know your room-mate before coming, or set up a schedule for being quiet and not disturbing each other.

    Academic Rigor

The academics are fairly easy, depending on which professor you have and what subject it is.

    Tips for prospective students

I would have to tell future students that you do actually have to study for class. It is harder than high school, espeecially to those ho did not have to study at all. Also, actually go to class, you get points for small things like that and you can only skip classes so many times before you recieve no credit for it.

    In three sentences

JSU is a small campus built on many hills. I would rate JSU with five stars because of the small class sizes and how the teachers rreally try to work with the students. This is an overall great college with a great campus.

The dorm life is average. The rooms are bigger than what you'd find at most colleges. However, the bathrooms leave much to be desired.

    Academic Rigor

I won't lie to you, the classes can take its toll. However, the teachers aare willing to help yhou and they get to know you personally; which is something that you can't say at most big colleges.

    Tips for prospective students

JSU is in a small town, but that doesn't been there isn't anything to do. The only problem is you have to take the first step. If you don't plan on getting involved such as sports, Greek life, clubs, SGA, etc. then JSU is not for you because you will be bored out your mind.

    In three sentences

JSU is a school that makes you feel right at home from the very first day. There are tons of interesting people here and lots of fun activities to get involved in. JSU has been an eye opener for me and has given me a great taste of what the real world has to offer.

    What to do for fun

Sadly there is very little to do for fun. The campus hold some events are called Fun but its not really that fun. The only bonus is that they usually give you food at these events so my advice is to go anyways for the food.

    Food and Dining

We have the TMB which is pretty good until you run out of flex bucks later on in the semester. Then its Dining Hall everyday. The food is pretty good most day. My favorite is the omelets they cook every morning.

    Dorm Life

The dorms open and close at 12am and 12pm. Its okay because I wouldn't like my roommate to have people staying over all night. And in almost all the dorm except Sparkman( female opinion, co-ed dorm) which gives each person their own room with adjoining bath.

    Academic Rigor

You could probably still pull a B in most classes and still party every night. That is, if you are not taking something like a hard math class or something like Biology.

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely, visit the school before making your decision. Take a tour and definitely tour the dorms if you can. DO NOT PICK CURTISS HALL (females!!!) it is the oldest dorm and does not come equipped with wifi. FITZ its so much better with far more room for the same price.

    In three sentences

If you like universities that is in the country with very few people. The view is also beautiful and the people are nice

Everywhere I go there are these blue poles that if there is an emergency you can call the campus police. Talking about the campus police, you have to make sure you park in the correct parking zones, have your parking decal exactly where it is supposed to be even if you are in the right parking zone they will give you a ticket.

    Greek Life

I am not a Greek but a friend of mine used to be. She said it is a great way to meet girls with the same interests as you.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Every Tuesday night a bunch of people go to Loco Mex for trivia. It is always fun. We also go and play tennis at the coliseum. It's a great way to get exercise, and get a tan.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition at JSU is expensive for every year I have been here tuition has gone up. I am just glad I only have a couple more semesters, it is getting harder to pay for tuition AND books AND rent.

    What to do for fun

Jacksonville is a very small town mostly we either go to eat or when it's football season we all tailgate and go to the game. I do enjoy that. But mainly we have to go to Oxford, which is only about 30 min away.

    Food and Dining

The food is good but it isn't the most healthy. They have a pizza section, sandwich, oriental, and a section for the regular fried foods. However there is a salad bar but it isn't very fresh.

    Dorm Life

For me I only stayed in the dorm for one year. And it was less than perfect. My roommate did drugs and would bring boys back to the room to spend the night. Also late at night people would run up and down the hall screaming and being loud.

    Academic Rigor

The academic part of Jacksonville State University is a great one. There are so many ways to get the grades you want. JSU has a student center where students can sign up for a tutor. I signed up for one to help me in Calculus and a science class. They are all very knowledgeable about what you are learning, and can put it into words that help you understand.

    Tips for prospective students

Jacksonville State University is a fantastic school. The advisors do a wonderful job. They will email you and ask you about classes you are taking. They really do want the best for you. The students are a great addition as well. It is easy for any student new or old to get involved in something.

    In three sentences

This school has a wonderful communications program. The teachers are always very willing to help a student in need of extra attention. There is something for everyone to get involved in.

    What to do for fun

What to do for fun? Jacksonville has a lot of what we call it mixers, some thrown by the D9, some thrown by the sororities. Or even by SGA. they all where fun. But they get you cause they always make you pay to get in!

    Food and Dining

The food is great ! W.O.W food is good its just like going to your neighborhood chicken joint. All the food in the TMB is great, i never had any problems. As in being sick and or not liking it.

    Dorm Life

I lived in fitzpatrick hall. The dorm was great but the females you live with are disgusting. Curtis was nice and lean but again its not where you staying its who you are staying with. They had a butt load of drama. Stadium was good they had 24 hour visitation.. i just don't like the fact that people have to check in. the same with sparkman, logan, dixin, and crow. but other than all that the rooms are moderate, and they have a home feel.

    Academic Rigor

overall, I know a lot of people that made deans list. Where there is a will, there is a way. If you want to be succeed then you will.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't get caught up in partying all the time. Your school work is whats best for you. Always study. Because if you don't, they will take away your financial aid

Academics are high on the priority list at JSU. That is the number one focus of Jacksonville State.

    Tips for prospective students

Also, the Drama students are very talented and entertaining, and our music department puts on some great jazz shows.

Jacksonville State University is very conveniently located for me since I already live in the area, but what I like most are the professors. In the business school, all of the professors have professional experience in their fields. JPD and UPD are always on call and ready to go. The University Police Department really has its hands full. They check up on students whose parents call, they are called (occasionally) to the dorms themselves to break-up potential fights, and the give parking tickets. If you park in the wrong zone, you will get a parking ticket of $25, end of story. If you get an undeserved ticket you can either take it to UPD or appeal it. There are also emergency call stations set-up around campus, they are big and red and light up at night; however, there isn't one by the stadium.

    Greek Life

JSU has many Greek organizations. Sigma Alpha Iota, Kappa Kappa Psi, Phi Mu Alpha, Theta Zeta, Kappa Alpha Kappa, and at least 10 others.

    Clubs and Activities

There are lots of clubs like NCAACP, Environment, Quidditch, and way to many for me to name. There is a Potters Guild, and a rifle team. You can ask the SGA for a full list of clubs and organizations. There is also an activities calendar on the JSU website.

Kitty Stone Elementary isn't far so if you are interested in pursuing Elementary Education you may student teach there. There are also lots of businesses around and some of the professionals, such as doctors and optometrists, will let you shadow them to see what their jobs are like.

    What to do for fun

Jacksonville almost always has a sporting event or concert or drama to go to; however, if those things do not interest you the nearest mall is 30 minutes away, but you have two to choose from. Both malls have a Cinema and various shops, the one in Oxford has an arcade separate from the cinema while the one in Gadsden has the arcade in the cinema. There is also a drive-in theater.

    Food and Dining

If you live on campus and have a meal plan its great. I have the 8 meals with 350 flex and I can eat anywhere on campus. Several friends have the block 70 meals and 650 flex and I never hear them complain... the only thing is the meals only apply in the Dinner and the Cafe. You have to use flex everywhere else on campus. The food is usually very good and everyone can find something to eat.

    Dorm Life

It really depends on which dorm you are in and who your roommate(s) are. Last year I stayed in Fitzpatrick, it is a shared dorm (2 people) and has a community bathroom. This year I am in Stadium Towers, it is also a shared dorm (4 people), but everyone gets her own room and the bathrooms are shared between two people. Stadium is also co-ed with boys and girls on the same floor but in different dorm, such as four girls in one dorm nroom and four guys in the dorm room across the hall.

    Academic Rigor

Some classes are extremely hard, some extremely easy, others fall in-between. Most Professors are willing to help students who are struggling and the University offers free tutoring to those that need it.

    Tips for prospective students

The campus is small, but, there are classes in buildings that are farther away, the day before classes start, find all the buildings you have classes in. Check your Professors on Rate My Professor, if you Professor isn't listed then ask someone who has had the class. Check your GEM everyday, if something is wrong with your information that is the only way you'll know. Take shower shoes.

The campus police are not strict on loud noise or patrolling the campus at night. Sometimes it seems that they only write parking tickets. I never feel unsafe on campus, though. Everyone pretty much keeps to themselves. Be smart; don't leave expensive things in your car that are visible. It's good to be cautious wherever you go, but you don't have anything to be specifically worried about at JSU.

    Greek Life

If you choose Greek Life, you will make friends that will be in your life forever. Each chapter is involved in cheering on JSU's sports teams and philanthropic events. If you want the best out of your personal college experience at JSU, I encourage you to join a Greek chapter.

    Clubs and Activities

One downfall of JSU is if you are not interested in Greek life (Fraternities/Sororities), The Marching Southerners, or campus ministries (Baptist/Methodist) then there is not a lot to be active in. those programs are great to be involved in, but if you don't wish to be in either, then you have to dig deep to find a group to be involved in.

Great for these types of students

JSU is great for outgoing and friendly students that want to get what they need for a successful career, and have a lot of fun along the way.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Unusual traditions: Some fraternities and sororities make their new pledges ride around the dorm parking lots late at night and make them yell their Greek chant. It can be a little annoying, but it's all in good fun. Unusual locations: the library 12th and 8th floor. These floors are open outside so you can stand outside and see the entire campus! It's the closest thing to the mountain, and really beautiful.

    Bang for the buck

JSU is one of the most affordable colleges around Alabama. Youget the credentials you need and the staff is always willing to help you get where you need to be; both academically and physically. I wish there was more scheduled activities on campus, but that may be a personal thing.

The actual town of Jacksonville is very small, so there is not much there to do. But right behind the library is the mountain. Several of my friends and I love to ride up Mountain Street and get on top of the mountain. You can see for miles! It's a great spot to hang out or just relax after an exam. Any sports game is entertaining, too. You have to see our basketball team! My friends and I try to make as many games as we can.

    Food and Dining

Oh man, the dining hall has some of the BEST food!! It has never tasted like lunch room food. Hopper Dining Hall has everything from your mama's home cooking, to soups and salads, and even steaks sometimes! The Dining Hall also has special events where you can get breakfast at midnight, or a full Thanksgiving meal! There is also a Chikfila on campus, which is awesome!!

    Dorm Life

One thing that is slightly annoying is that if you live in Stadium, the RA's make announcements through speakers located in your room. they are loud and will wake you up in the morning or at night. :( Other than that, each dorm hall has a friendly staff. Your first week will be crazy because everyone is excited to be out of the house and on their own. But just wait a little while, and everything will calm down to normal. Just make sure you buy some shower flip flops because the bathrooms are sometimes gross!

    Academic Rigor

At JSU, the professors want you to get the most out of the class since you're paying a LOT of money for it. I have learned things from classes I thought I would hate, and still remember some cool things I learned!

    Tips for prospective students

Go to as many classes as you can. It is so much easier just to wake up on time, go to class, take your OWN notes, and hear the lecture for yourself instead of getting that information from someone else. Get a bike! You will waste so much gas driving between buildings. Walk, or get a two wheel ride!

    In three sentences

JSU is my home away from home. The campus is small enough to remember more than a couple of people, but large enough to meet new faces often. It reminds me of my small-town home.

The University Police Department is quick to respond and really cares about the students. I have seen them respond to everything ranging from a fight to someone with alcohol poisoning to someone needing their care to jumped off! Whatever you need help with, they're always here and are quick to help.

    Greek Life

I have yet to meet an unpleasant Greek life member. Being one myself, I have seen some of the nasty people that live up to the media stereotypes of Greek life, but JSU helps foster some of the friendliest people you'll ever meet. If you're looking for a social fraternity/sorority or a service one, you'll find a group that will become your next family if you want.

    Clubs and Activities

There's a club for almost every class, sport, recreation, or hobbies! Not to mention all of the fraternities and sororities on-campus. Whether you want to join the video game club or one of the Divine 9, there's something for everyone.

Great for these types of students

JSU is great for any types of students!! Those that want to challenge themselves in the class, take it easy and casually get their degree, go outside and hike all day, or stay inside and relax in the lounge. If you're a social butterfly or socially awkward, there are plenty of people on-campus to get along with and bond with. Every since moving here, I have gained so many more friends than I could have ever imagined from all different facets of society!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Some of the great places to go are either the quad and just relaxing in the sun or the top floor of the library and watch the sunset over the mountains. There's gorgeous landscape all around!

    Bang for the buck

Price is always a concern when it comes to going to school, but JSU is one of those rare campuses that offers a fantastic education at a fantastic price! With semester costs low and the teachers at such a high caliber, you couldn't ask for more.

    What to do for fun

There is plenty to do around here! If you're the outdoors-type, you can walk the long Chief Ladiga trail or go to one of the many surrounding lakes. If you like malls instead, there's a nice mall only 15 minutes down the road. There are also nice places to hang out on-campus with friends, lounges in the resident halls to play games, and there is usually something going on on-campus that is being hosted by one of the departments.

    Food and Dining

Everything jokes about campus food, but here at JSU, you can take your pick of a multitude of options! The cafeteria is great with it's many options. There are restaurants on-campus to choose from (such as Chick-fil-a). There is even a nice diner on-campus if you want to take someone out on a date and save money! Plenty to eat and it's all good!!

    Dorm Life

Activities, activities, activities!! There is so much going on here! The Housing department keeps us entertained with plenty of events for on-campus residents and those commuting. All of the RAs are very nice and knowledgeable; knowing plenty of information to help assimilate to the campus life. The rooms are kept clean and repairs are taken care of in a timely manner. JSU through and through!!

    Academic Rigor

Every teacher I have met so far has been overly concerned about my success. I have never gone into a class feeling out-of-place or left a class feeling as though I didn't gain anything. The classes can be challenging, but you'll always finish the semester knowing a great deal more than you would at other universities.

    Tips for prospective students

Do your research! When planning on attending college, always be sure to look into things such as price, location, surrounding town/city, and ask your friends and family if they have attended the school you're looking at. Be prepared as well! Every school should have a list available (either online or via mail) that tells you items that are recommended to take. Contact your roommate before moving in and see if there is something you can bring or they can bring in order to save on money.

    In three sentences

JSU is where you go if you want to be on the friendliest campus in the South! The teachers, students, and faculty are the greatest! There's plenty to do around town and close enough to the interstate for those that want to go home on weekends.

    Food and Dining

As with most college areas there's the fast food around campus.

    Dorm Life

Ahhh, what can I say? Dorms are dorms. There are good ones on this campus and not so good ones. Avoid Tutwiler if at all possible. ( sorry freshman girls, chances are that is where you will get stuck.) if you are an athlete, you have got it made because your dorm will be at the newest facility, Stadium. I am a commuter myself, but I would be more than willing to abandon the comforts of my 3 bedroom house for the Stadium dorm!

    Academic Rigor

Does the word blackboard mean anything to you? If you attend Jacksonville it will. Every professor uses it to some extent. In my opinion this program is a necessary evil. Good luck. Also prepare yourself for the English Competency Exam. No matter what field you are going into every student is required to write a short essay for a pass/fail evaluation. It is annoying and time consuming, but you can't escape it, so best to just take it as soon as you are eligible and get it out of the way.

    Tips for prospective students

    1. Be sure to check and re-check dates for adding and dropping classes. Especially if you are using ANY form of financial aid. (Read and understand the refund policies, there are no exceptions) 2. Humble yourself and get a map. Yes, the campus is not overwhelmingly huge, however, there are important buildings (I.e. like student I.D. Office, and parking decal building) that are out of sight out of mind) 3. Keep your advisement appointments! The advisors at this college ( get this) ACTUALLY care! And you will find they are most helpful in helping you work towards, and stay on track for that graduation date! 4.get your own printer. It is ridiculously inconvenient to get things printed at the library. You have to use your I.D. to print and the magnetic strip is easily damaged, not to mention you have to connect it to a checking account to put money on it. 5. Always, always, always, look your professors up online. Know their teaching styles before you register for their class. There are lots of professors to choose from so ask around, find a good match.

    In three sentences

Jacksonville State's best attribute is by far the professors. They are dedicated to ensuring that every student has the tools necessary to master the concepts being presented in the course work.

    Clubs and Activities

There are several clubs and activities that students here at Jacksonville State University can get involved in. From History Club to Christian Groups, so there is a wide range of options as far as groups and activities for the student body here at Jacksonville State University.

    Food and Dining

Food and Dining in the cafeteria would not be what I consider 5-star, but there are other like places to eat on campus, like a Chick-Fil-a, a Wing place called WoW Cafe and Wingery, which is very good by the way, along with a few more food options that are provided on campus.

    Dorm Life

Every freshman that apply's and is accepted at Jacksonville State University, are required to live on campus. So, the freshman student share's a room with his or her roommate and there is a community bathroom for one whole hall. So, basically you share your dorm room and use a community bathroom that has a shower stalls in them. For, the most part my freshman year it was weird going down the hallway to take a shower, but for the most part the cleaning ladies keep it pretty clean back when I was a freshman. However, after your freshman year ,your sophmore year you can decided to stay on campus and move up to your own room and share a bathroom or move off campus and commute to your classes.

    What to do for fun

Stay active, and take some time to do some things for fun. Taking care of yourself during extra time will go a long way. There are a lot of things that you can do outdoors to keep yourself fit, which will make you feel good. There are beautiful hiking trails by the campus and places that are not to far away to drive. Birmingham and Atlanta are also not far away for those weekends you want to go see a show or go out on the town.

    Food and Dining

Eat healthy. Most college students have a poor diet due to time restraints. You need to study and be involved in schools activities. Nourish yourself properly, and take care of your body. You do not want to graduate and get to that new job you have worked so hard for fifty pounds over the weight you should be.

    Dorm Life

Do not get caught up in other people's drama. You are there for your future not anyone else's. If there are people that distract you drop them like a bad habit. They will not be the one's paying your bills. Stay away from people that exhibit behavior that will get you into trouble. Remember you are an adult now, and especially when it comes to the law you will be tried as an adult. Know any choices that you make now can hinder your future, and prospective avenues you may want to take.

    Academic Rigor

Focus on your studies. School needs to be your priority. That may be a struggle not, but think that you are investing in your future. Your school performance may affect what kind of job you will receive when you graduate. The kind of job you get will determine what you make. Strive to go after the big bucks, so don't waste time fooling around with things or people that distract you from what is important for your future.

    Tips for prospective students

Be open minded when you enter university, because you are continuing your education to expand your mind. It would be foolish to come thinking that you already know everything. Be honest with your teacher about problems that you are having about anything that will affect your performance in class. A teacher respects a humble student willing to ask for help, they are there to help you achieve your goals for your future. If you have any prejudices against anyone, drop them like a bad habit, you are only limiting yourself. When you enter university you will meet a diverse range of people, and if you have preconceived notions then you are losing out on all the people have to offer. Take any experience as a learning experience.

    In three sentences

Diverse in the types of classes they teach, permitting more students to attend that have to work while attending university. The property is a clean environment, which probably fosters a better learning experience. There are a diverse range of teachers, not just people hired from the immediate area.

    What to do for fun

Not much to do unless you go to the next town over.

    Food and Dining

The food is not really healthy but it tastes good and you can always pick the sandwiches and fruit or vegetables, but it still is not as healthy as it could be. The best place to go to get something healthy is a yogurt or smoothie place. There are many places to choose from.

    Dorm Life

The better dorms are the ones with the most space without a private bathroom and a communal bathroom really is clean and fine. It's not as weird or scary as people say it is.

    Academic Rigor

You have to listen and pay attention to keep up and understand what the teacher is saying and it would be a great idea if you recorded all your teachers when they spoke so that if you can't remember what they said you can always go back and hear it.

    Tips for prospective students

Every student should join a sport so that they can avoid gaining the weight they don't want. Make sure to go to class and do your homework because that is the easiest way to pass. Be on time to class and being an umbrella just in case it rains. Be prepared for everything you think could happen, but don't be paranoid about it.

    In three sentences

At JSU there are many opportunities for you to earn your credits and do what you want for your major. They have a great bus system that takes you to class and great tutoring places for all subjects if you need help. The food is okay but not the healthiest, which is why students gain so much weight.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved in an organization. It is a great way to meet new students and helps you become an active member on campus.

    Campus Safety

This is great I have been on this campus for awhile now and I have only heard whispers of every now and then theft. (and that is normally out of unlocked cars and or their roommate or their friends did it and it is solved mostly quickly.) Also there are these poles periodically all over campus that have these emergency police call buttons of them, you press the button and then talk into it and you are talking to the police not money needed.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many clubs and things I don't know what all I can say, but I am in TriBeta. That is a fraternity for Biology majors; to be in it you do have to keep a 3.0 GPA but it looks great on applications and it can be pretty fun.

Great for these types of students

If you know you are going to want extra help the the Ace tutoring lab is for you! There is FREE tutoring in any subject there.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

If something is going on you will most likely see it either on the front lawn of the TMB or in the quad.

    What to do for fun

There's normally always something going on a game or and activity that a club or sorority/fraternity has going on. Even though there is not a lot in town because it is small I normally just hang with my friends.

    Food and Dining

The food is pretty good and there are many places on campus where you can use your meal plan and or flex dollars.

    Dorm Life

I have never lived in a dorm but I gave it a good rating because I have heard good things.

    Academic Rigor

Just like every where there are hard classes and profs. and there are easier ones.

    Tips for prospective students

No matter if the teacher take attendance or not if you show to class everyday and pay attention the chances of you passing with double if not triple. Always read the chapter. Make at least one friend in every class to study with or to get the work if you miss a day. If you are having problems just ask the prof. they will help you.

    In three sentences

A great and beautiful environment. The teachers truly care about you and want to help in any way they can. It's smaller so you are not just a number, most teachers learn you by your name.

Went with the unlimited meal plan with few flex dollars. So far this has treated me well, and I will stick with this plan for as long as i am here. The Jack Hopper Dining Hall has a great big selection of food to choose from and it has yet to become old to me.

    Dorm Life

Not very much partying goes on in the dorms, although there are the occasional people running down the hall screaming for no apparent reason. Other than that, the dorms are very nice. The beds are kinda thin and I'd suggest bringing your own thick comfortable bed topper.

    Academic Rigor

Good professors that teach the information well. They don't just teach u something and expect that you know it just from one example.

    Tips for prospective students

    Clubs and Activities

There are a variety of clubs and activities that students can be apart. Every student becomes a part of the SGA. There are different sororities and fraternities that can be joined. Honor societies, religious, media, special interest, and professional department clubs can also be joined.

    Bang for the buck

Home games are free for students attending JSU. The gym and weight room is provided for students for free. The shuttle service take students to different places like Wal-Mart for free. The JSU library lets students check out books and movies for free.

    What to do for fun

There are many things you can do for fun. You can hang out with friends you meet in class. There are plays you can go see that the drama department puts on. Sport games are free for students. There are movies that are picked by the Movie Night Committee for students on Tuesday nights. The SGA has tailgate parties at home games before the game.

    Food and Dining

I actually bring my lunch to JSU. However, there are days I forget to bring it. If this is the case, then I usually go to the TMB and buy some food from Chick-fil-A. There are other places you can eat, but I eat only Chick-fil-A. The cafeteria requires you to have like a certain type of money that you get at the beginning of the year. There is a variety of food you can get in there including pizza, salad, pasta, hamburgers, international food, etc.

    Dorm Life

I actually lived at home so I don't know exactly anything about this area. However, I think I can give general tips in surviving dorm life. If you're anything like me, then you don't like sharing a bathroom. You want your privacy. If this is you, then this can be a problem. Try getting up early in the morning and taking a shower to beat everyone else. Wear flip flops in the shower to prevent any germs. Get along with your roommate.

    Academic Rigor

If there is one subject you find being more difficult, then you need to put more time into learning how to do it. For example, many students find math being difficult. Ask the professor or fellow students for help. Spend more time learning how to do it. There is free tutoring service. Go and get help learning how to do it. Some professor require being in class and count how many absences you have. If you miss a certain amount of days a semester, then you will receive no credit for the class. However, there are some professors who feel that you are now adults and that you have to take responsibility for doing bad in class if you don't come.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't try and pick the easiest professors. Pick the moderate ones from which you would have to study the material and know it. This allows you to actually learn the material and know it for years to come. Start studying the first day and don't procrastinate it because it will be extremely stressful to cram the material in a few days before the test. If there is something you don't understand from the material you are learning, schedule an appointment with the professor and let him/her help clarify things. Find people that take detailed notes and that are there every time class meets so that you have someone to depend on if you cannot make it one day so you can still have the material you missed. Form study groups from which you all can help each other with weak areas. Be respectful to the professors; don't play on your phone during the lecture because it's rude and disrespectful. Learn how to manage your time.

    In three sentences

Jacksonville State University has a variety of professors; some are really great and some are really bad. The services provided by JSU are very helpful including their shuttle service and tutoring services that are both free to every student. Overall, I would rate the university a 3.5 out of 5.

    Clubs and Activities

I will be joining the history club in the fall. IDK about any other club

Great for these types of students

This school is best for ppl who like small campuses and a pretty quiet city.

    What to do for fun

Everyone goes to 231 on thursday nights. ALL the parties are thrown there. Downside is its 40 mins from campus so if u dont have a car u should make friends with someone who does. They serve food and drinks there. Its a good time.

    Food and Dining

I only ate in the cafe once on a visit and it was good, but idk how it is on a daily basis.

    Dorm Life

I never lived in a dorm at thus univ, but from what I experienced when I visited before I was a student, its SUCKS! No cell reception in logan unless u have verison and you have to leave you ID at the front desk when you visit. At my old univ that was(and still is) unheard of. i'm just accustomed to more freedom. You are also prohibited to have overnight guest, same sex or opposite. I COULD NOT DEAL!

    Academic Rigor

Thus far some of the easier profs I've had were E. Rider, for intro to sociology, R. Conroy for psych 201, CHRIS MURDOCH for bio 1 was great. D. Prudlo for western civ 2. Prudlo comes off like a stiff, uptight man, but I swear he's awesome. Eventually he'll loosen up. He has no prob answering questions, slowing down, or expounding, And he even cracks lots of jokes. BUT HE IS SERIOUS ABOUT THE TEST. With him your best bet is to listen, ask questions, take plenty of notes, be there on review day, and test run your IDS and essays! He's going to challenge you but it well worth it and can be fun along the way

    Tips for prospective students

Incomers, do your research on every prof you take. Nothing is 100% but In my experience, RateMyProfessor.com has been pretty dead on.

    In three sentences

JSU is a small, quiet, and easily accessible university. In my experience(only 1 year{sophmore}) the professors have been knowledgeable, hands on, and always willing to help. I have only had one experience with a prof that in which I thought I could not endure the her insanity. They offer a bus service to (and from) classes and the local Walmart for students without vehicles. On a negative note, They give out tickets like they are Halloween candy! UPD and the city PD! It gets boring sometimes, but that all universities.

UPD, the University Police Department is located right across from Burgess-Snow Football field and 2 of the 3 female freshman dorms. They are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for the safety of all students and staff. Out of my own experiences, UPD is always willing to come to any call, at any time; they are committed to serve and protect those affiliated with Jacksonville State University.

    What to do for fun

There is always some SGA sponsored event going on the TMB lawn right in front of the university. The Drama department has plays, musicals and great live experiences in Stone Center on the west side of campus. And let's not forget the parties that is sponsored by the greek life at JSU.

    Food and Dining

The Cafe is the place to go at JSU. They have a wide variety of daily entrees to pizza and burgers available daily. Don't forget to stop by the Gamecock diner for a more restaurant feel to dinner, Jazzman's coffee shop & bakery, and the food court in the Theron Montgomery Building includes Baja Fresh Mexican grille, 155 degrees grille, Gamecock pizza Chick-Fil-A express and Freshens frozen yogurt stand.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life was definitely a new experience for me. You are away from your parents, you're on your own and you discover this new freedom. Having a roommate can teach you responsibility and tolerance; you never know what people you will run into in your on-campus residence living.

    Academic Rigor

The academics at Jacksonville State University are unbelievable. All teachers go above and beyond to make sure that you are learning what you need to succeed. No teacher has ever done the bare minimum to let you slide by.

    Tips for prospective students

ALWAYS, get to know your teachers. You may look like a stuck up teachers pet, but it will pay off come finals time. Also, BE INVOLVED, go to campus activities and let yourself get out there to meet new people; it's what you need to survive college.

    In three sentences

I love how welcoming campus feels along with the friendly staff. I like the fact that I did not feel out of place and made friends as soon as I landed on campus. JSU has always promised to never raise tuition, no matter if the staff had to take pay cuts because of it.
