Categories Comments Will enjoy being here I will enjoy being at John A. Gupton,Because I have always wanted to study/take lesson and earn a degree in mortuary science and/or embalming.
Will learn a lot I hope to learn alot on the procedures,and processes used to make a qualified mortician and/or embalmer.

Academic Rigor the classes are tough,but you learn so much.
In three sentences it's a good school with a lot of opportunities.the classes are tough, but essential for a career in the funeral industry.

Dorm Life i do not live in the apartment here at the school, but i live in some recomended by the school. they are wonderful.
Academic Rigor the academics are only as hard as you make them. you have to study.
Tips for prospective students study. i know this seems typical, but it's the truth. memorization is the key. you study and memorize, and retain the material, and you'll be set.
In three sentences very awesome school, that helps you explore all options in the field. teachers are very helpful and try all ways possible to help you reach your goal as a funeral director or embalmer. it's an excellent school.

In three sentences Is a highly accrediated school. The tuition is expensive. This is my dream.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Dan (the security officer) is without a shadow of a doubt my favorite member of staff. He's a great guy.
Greek Life None.
Clubs and Activities None.
Great for these types of students Ones with no life.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus If I wasn't in class or offering a classmate a ride, I wasn't there. Not exactly the hip place to hang out. Its a one classroom school with a small library and lounge.
Bang for the buck Don't get me wrong, you learn a lot from Gupton but the way they deliver it totally sucks (pardon my French). If they were a little more lax with the little things, and maybe broke some of the more rigorous courses up into bi-weekly class meetings or even added a semester, I think students would be less stressed out. But for the money ($20,000 for no previous college prerequisites/whole 2 year program with no financial aid).
What to do for fun Yeah, right. Occasionally they may have a cookout for students where you provide all the food/drinks and have to be in dress code or business casual. We had one day where we could wear blue jeans and you would have thought it was Christmas.
Food and Dining There are several restaurants within walking distance.
Dorm Life The apartments are about as big as a normal person's living room, maybe 400 square feet. They use to be subsidized housing and have several problems with plumbing and are way too expensive for what you get. $400 a month and all utilities separate. No thanks.
Academic Rigor The classes are tough. You need to study as much as possible and go to any study sessions you can. They like to cram 2-3 semesters worth of knowledge into one class, one semester, once a week.
Tips for prospective students Quit your job, tell your friends you can't come out to play and buckle up for one heck of a ride. I came from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga making all A's and B's (GPA was 3.5) to Gupton and struggle to make B's and C's. I love the hands on experience I received, but it's one of the toughest schools I've ever been to and you rarely use any of the information you go over in the actual classes. I learned everything about actual embalming and funeral directing from my clinicals and professional practicum (externship).
In three sentences If you like overbearing Christian religious influence, favoritism to those whose family's own funeral homes, and ridiculous classes, John Gupton is the school for you! Most instructors have a horrible attitude toward students who aren't the cookie-cutter funeral service stereotype and the dress code is over the top. If you have any type of a life, job, or aren't the best student I suggest going to another school.
