    For students who would like to become teachers and students who would like to be a part of extra curricular activities.
    Tips for prospective students

    Handel your financial aid papers ahead of time. The office is always busy and it takes forever for everything to be finalized.

    Considering i am an out of state student. It was fairly cheap.

    There are various activities to join and a great school environment.

    The school has a great psychology program.

    Tips for prospective students

    If you plan on becoming a resident on campus, know that the weekends are rather slow. Because Kean is such a large commuter school, the weekends are when residents go home so therefore nothing really happens. Also, understand that Dougall Hall and Whiteman Hall do not have elevators or air- bring a fan and a good pair of sneakers for the walk if you're at the top (4th floor.)

    Housing is expensive as well as the meal plans. Make sure you utilize all of the services provided on campus.

    The weekends are slow and there isn't much to do of campus unless you go to NYC (30 min. away) or Rutgers New Brunswick.

    We have our own police station on campus and they are always roaming around to make sure that the campus is safe.
    What to do for fun

    There's night clubs surrounding us, yes you will have to call a taxi or have a car but it is worth it. We also have an Applebees up the street and if you travel a little bit further we have a plethora of restaurants. We also have Jersey Gardens which we have a shuttle that takes us there and back. We have a pool, tennis court, basketball court, football field, gymnastics rooms and dance rooms.
    Food and Dining

    Unfortunately, the food has its highs and lows. The cafeteria that every freshman has to get swipes for is the cafeteria that sometimes has good food. Most people go to the University Center cafeteria which has the best food. We also have a Starbucks on campus so that is always a plus.
    Dorm Life

    Staying in New Freshman Residence Hall is great. You get to meet new people from different backgrounds and learn about their culture. Living on campus is like living on your own so you do not have to answer to anyone but yourself. YOU make your OWN decisions on how you live in the dorms.
    Academic Rigor

    The class sizes can be really small or just the right amount of students so you will not get lost in a sea of students like other colleges do. The benefits of having smaller classes is that you can be in contact with the professor more than you would in a class with 50 students in it.
    Tips for prospective students

    Get to know your professors as if you are networking with them. Make sure they know your name and know your face.

    The campus has it's own police staff who keep the campus safe for everyone.

    There are clubs for all different kinds of people and their interest's.
    What to do for fun

    On campus we have a basketball court, a tennis court, and a volleyball court near the dorms. There are often cookouts and parties and many sporting events to attend. There's cooking competitions and game rooms in two of the resident halls.
    Food and Dining

    Freshmen have unlimited swipes in the cafeteria, as you move up in years you receive less swipes but receive more cougar dollars to spend at Starbucks or the Cougars Den.
    Dorm Life

    Living on campus is great. You meet a lot of people and are on your own. Every building has heating, and clean running water. The rooms are spacious enough to feel like you have privacy and there are quiet hours at night so you can get the sleep you need.
    Academic Rigor

    The academic level is difficult. However tutoring is available on a very flexible schedule.
    Tips for prospective students

    College is a big step to take after high school, but the community at Kean makes that transition easier. Being undecided is also normal, Kean offers many different classes that people in all different majors have to take, so you get a sense of all different subjects.

    Kean University is a beautiful diverse university. The campus is very big on going green, because of that our campus is always clean. The people are friendly and everyone likes to have fun, but takes their studies seriously.

    Campus police are always around and are there 24hr for any student to be walked to there vehicle or class. They drive around the lots and are quick to arive if any issues occur.
    Clubs and Activities

    There are so many, pages and pages, in the Cougar website with a description of the club and its activities and events, members and it is also quick and easy to sign up right away if you are interested or you can just send those in charge an email about an questions beforehand.
    Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

    We have shuttles that drive around, at no cost, from the main campus to the other buildings for students who park further from their destination. They come every 5-10 mins which is very convenient.
    Bang for the buck

    I think the tuition is a good price for the quality of education as well as what is available to its students. I think it is definitley a great place to continue education for transfering students or those returning as non-traditional students.
    Food and Dining

    There is the cafeteria which has many choices from breakfast, to pasta, sandwiches, burgers, etc. for lunch and dinner; there is also the Couger den which has less options but better quality of food (healthy also) and more of a restaurant style seating and serving but no tipping. Lastly there is the Ursino restaurant by the STEM building which is organic and uses the farm nearby for its dishes. I have heard great things but have not been there yet.
    Dorm Life

    I am a student that does not dorm; I travel so I do not know anything about dorm life here.
    Academic Rigor

    I think many of the classes that I've taken are great and although tests and papers vary by professor, I learned a lot whether it was in lecture or discussion-based courses.
    Tips for prospective students

    It is a great idea to explore various majors and advisors for potential education plans. There are many classes that fit into other degrees whether it be by elective or not and taking courses that fit, as well as those of interest will help you get the best out of your experience. There are also many groups or clubs that you can be a part of which is good for on-campus scholarships and your resume.

    Kean University is great for students majoring in Education, who want to go to school close to home but yet be able to experience the college life.
    Tips for prospective students

    When searching for colleges, speak to the alumni or even those who transferred. Find out about the activities they offer, the clubs and programs they do and don't provide; their overall experience. Then you and your parents can thoroughly decide which school would be right for you.

    Honestly Kean University spends more money on appearance than they do on maintenance. Everyday Fall 2011 Semester workers were out there building & creating new scenery. Cutting the grass, trimming the edges, etc. But when it came to maintaining the residence halls they slacked. The heat had been broken, which took them weeks to fix and the washing machines in Whiteman Hall had been out of order for a week on end. It was just very inconvenient.
    Am enjoying being here

    Life is what you make it. Of course sitting in the dorm room all day when everyone else is out and about wont be any fun. Going anywhere new you must become aware of your surroundings and become acquainted with those around you. Be open to learn new things, and go places you've never been. Being open will allow more opportunities of fun into your life.
    Am learning a lot

    Everyone knows about RateMyProfessor.com. For those who may not, it is a website made to alert & notify students of the teaching habits of the professor. Many may be quick to point out the faults in others before themselves. My point is know how you learn so that you will be able to work with and if necessary around those professor's teaching habits.

    don't dorm so not sure. the kids who do dorm claim they throw alright parties.

    they always have different activities and trips going on either free or super cheap. only downside is the trips are first come first serve hard to get tickets.

    one of the cheapest universities in state. cost is very similar to that of montclair and a bit less than rutgers but the campus is a lot better than those.
    What to do for fun

    the school has rec's in the dorm buildings for commuter students they have the game room in the university center which has pool table, foosball table, wii, xbox, play station, and ping pong. the school provides all the games and controllers.
    Food and Dining

    the cafeterias food kind of sucks but you cant expect much in a college campus anywhere really. there is a five star restaurant on campus that no actual student can afford. there are a few other places in union you can go to theirs a carvel a burger king and a dunkin donuts on same block.

    i don't dorm but based on what i've heard its ok. they have greek parties the drugs and alcohol the usual, but as a commuter school the parties aren't as big a deal as some other schools. locally there isn't much to do, starbucks will be your best friend, and u will prob graduate a pool expert.

    they have some great teachers that are amazing and will help you a lot. but kean also has some really bad ones that will destroy your life. you have to visit ratemyprofessors before registering for any class

    try to do good on the entrance test if your test ends early than you did bad they will make you take a bunch of unnecessary classes that will just hold you back.

    i go to the gym as much as i can thats my favorite activity. in the campus i usually go to starbucks with my friend to chat and have coffee. i live far so i dont hang out at night there.

    go early to find a parking spot or park by the east campus and take the shuttle bus. the best place to study is in the third floor of the library in the quite room with the comfy couch and finally go to the east campus gym is small quite and you can work out without any pressure.

    Campus Safety is priority to the University. The school has a campus police headquarters establish near a freshman hall to monitor dorm activities around the residential communities. Also in the evening, a private security team patrols the dorms to ensure extra safety among the night to students. It is the best insurance to college students!
    What to do for fun

    For Residents only, there are shuttle buses that transport residents to certain locations around the area, such as Jersey Gardens Mall, Target, Wal-Mart and other places. Not only going does it take you to those places, there are other attractions around the located area as well to go to. Also near campus are local stores and delivery restaurants
    Food and Dining

    The food and dining served on campus is fair. There are two cafeterias on campus: Both available to residents and communters. It is catered by official chefs, dedicated to cook excellent, tasty, and healthy meals to students.
    Dorm Life

    Residing on a college campus is one of the best experiences to going to college out of high school. You are giving an opportunity to experience a home away from home. You will have Resident Assistants that will help their resident students smooth their way through an academic school year. Plus on campus activities that will be informative to residents to help them throughout their academic periods. There cannot be anything greater than living away from your home and communicating with other students older and/or younger then you.

    Kean's accreditation status is currently unstable. All athletic teams have been put on probation for four years. Lots of problems at Kean, but the fellow students and professors are rather wonderful.

    There is a game room that a lot of students like to hangout in where they have a pool table, air hockey, etc. It is a very fun atmosphere and there's always people to talk to.

    The dining hall has great food and many options. It is very affordable and never too crowded.

    I do not dorm at Kean, I commute, but I hear the dorms are very nice.

    All of my professors want their student to work to their potential so they challenge us and expect the best from us.

    Parking gets a little crazy because there are a lot of commuters, get to class early in order to find a spot.

    Our safety cars are always on the go. If they see something that just is not safe or does not seem right, they are always right there to work and keep our students safe! They are also tough when needed to be but very nice.

    There are two campuses therefore if you have classes in both campuses on the same day with only a few minutes to get to your car and drive to the other part of campus, just take a trolley that takes you from point A to point B which I think is rather unique about our school.

    Kean University is on a main road so it is rather easy to get to. The campus is fun, clean, big, exciting and everyone is super kind. Everyone that I know from Kean loves it there and loves the support from all the faculty and fellow peers. The best part is that there is always parking available.
    What to do for fun

    Kean University has a Cougar's Den where you can walk in and just hang out with friends and watch our team playing. You can play snooker, pool, or just have a great time. There is also the Starbucks' where many students just to have a laugh or have a cup of coffee and study for exams and finals.

    Always so clean and workers are very kind and show you a smile. The lines are quick and people are always in a good mood.

    Just hold your head up high, and be open to learn new things because everyone is there is willing to teach you something new each day!

    Kean University is very welcoming to their students and others. When needing assistance, I had never had any problems finding someone willing to help answer my questions or help me with what I need. Since day one of walking on campus, I have felt welcome, free, comfortable, and relaxed in the environment and I love learning from the professors who are so friendly.

    COPS everywhere. You can get escorted to your car at night if you want but I doubt you will need to. The cops are also very helpful and are aware of what is going on on campus and are very polite.
    What to do for fun

    Kean has so much to offer from Greek Life, to clubs, groups, musicals, dancing, activities. They always know how have a fun time. The campus has an arena, football field, baseball field, gym, star bucks, basketball courts, volleyball nets, they even have shuttles that take you to walmart, target, the mall, transportation is also close.

    I do not dorm but I've spent a night at Kean in my friend's dorm. If I could, I would dorm but the university is only a 10-15 minute drive from my house so I do not see the point in dorming. Everyone is really friendly and when you dorm, that's when you learn real responsibility, fending for yourself, and making the right decisions. Kean has really nice dorms.

    College is different. You're on your own in a way but there's people to help you out as well. The professors will not spoon feed you but they are always willing to push you to work to your potential. College is only difficult if you make it. Complete assignments, participate, and work hard.

    The Campus police are excellent to have around on campus at Kean. Kean University has its very own swat team as well as a police station on campus. Wherever I am walking around on campus, I will spot at least one Kean University police car driving around. This makes me feel very safe.
    What to do for fun

    Kean University offers students multiple activities for fun and leisure. At Kean, there is a game room, two movie theaters, basketball courts, and a sanded volleyball court. There is a track near the huge building that includes the gym, indoor basketball courts, and pool. Behind the track is the football field as well as the outdoor tennis courts. Not only does Kean give the athletes chances to have fun, but also the scholars. There is a fantastic three story library as well as a connected Starbucks where students have a chance to socialize with their peers over a latte in a relaxed environment.

    Kean University has multiple excellent restaurant and dining facilities. From the two dining halls, to the new organic restaurant, to the Starbucks on campus. Kean's goal is to attract any taste bud, giving students a wide range of diverse foods to choose from.

    There are programs going on each and every day. The only way you won't enjoy yourself is if you choose not to. Also, there are various clubs students can get involved with that supplies trips as well as community service.

    The safety here is excellent. They have this program called campus alert that alerts you of anything happening in the school, good or bad. Also you will see police officers patrolling the area all the time, so you will always fell safe.

    The police on campus are state police that work for the University. They are constantly riding around in their cars making sure everyone is doing okay. There are also posts with red buttons that when you feel threatened, you can press it and a police will arrive very quickly. You can also call the police station and ask for an escort back to wherever you want if you feel unsafe.

    To be completely honest, there isn't too much to do for fun on campus. Since there is a starbucks, my friends and I go there to chat and hang out in between classes. There's also a bus that takes students to Jersey Gardens Mall and other places. Kean also has a NJ Transit train station on campus and that allows students to go to the city or anywhere else.

    There isn't a great selection of food courts, but it is convenient and they do have a variety of foods.

    There are a bunch of weekly activities RAs organize for the dorms. There are frat and sport-houses around campus for parties on the weekend, Hoboken has some bars and more night life about 20-30 minutes away. Weekly Shuttles provided for free by the university can take students to Target or the nearby mall. Or simply, it's college: get a group of people together to hang out in a dorm or the University Center game room.
    Food and Dining

    There are three major places to eat ON campus. The New Residence Halls Cafeteria is a buffet-style set up where you can swipe once and get as much food as many times as you want in one sitting. The University Center Cafeteria is bigger and has better (possibly even fresher) food than does the other cafeteria. There are hot foods like wraps, soups, grilled food, salad bar, Tex Mex station, pizza, hot subs, sushi, paninis, etc. which is also a little more expensive but delicious. The Cougar's Den is more a small restaurant that serves healthy, organic, and fresh hot and cold foods. It's a little more costly like the UC Cafeteria. Delicious though.
    Dorm Life

    The new residence dorms are really nice (they are kind of like hotels). The RAs are strict about the dry-campus rule and if things get too rowdy and loud too late at night, they will say something and have no problem writing you up. But if you are respectful and get to know them, your RAs can definitely become friends of yours, like mine have.
    Academic Rigor

    I came from a very challenging high school that was known as the college-high school of the county so when I came to college, it was incredibly similar to my last four years of high school. I haven't had a hard time adjusting to work because that is all I have known my academic career, also because of my studying habits (for example, I will go to the library to do homework due next week instead of taking a nap between class). But I do know a few friends that didn't take advantage of resources and had some trouble adjusting to college life.
    Tips for prospective students

    As far as getting things situated like contacting certain offices for housing information, tuition payments, questions for certain people, etc be persistent or maybe even come in and do it in person because the offices don't always answer their phones which can be annoying but be proactive and it will get done. Put yourself out there and join a club, activity, go to a game or two and you'll find friends. Don't indulge in food because there isn't anything better to do or you're bored or because it is convenient, eat right and stay active so you don't get the freshman fifteen, or even more likely, the freshman thirty.

    KU is a visually appealing campus due to the hard work of the friendly maintenance crew to plant, grow, fertilize, and care for the grounds. Though it is sometimes difficult to get in contact with some offices, people (students, athletes, commuters, staff, faculty, and coaches included) are very friendly and welcoming. There isn't a lot of night life on or very near campus, but find the right group of people you belong to and there won't be a problem finding fun things to do.

    Kean University is on a small campus in two locations. It is a state college and the tuition is very reasonable. The class size average about 30 to 35 students for each class.

    KU Campus police are very professional and saying they do their job very well is an understatement. They take their job very seriously to ensure the safety of their student daily.
    Greek Life

    There are many fraternities and sororities but not many of them are active.
    Clubs and Activities

    Kean University has plenty of clubs and organizations that help students get involved on campus.
    Great for these types of students

    Kean is great for students who plan on commuting while in school.

    Kean University is a good school but it can be better than what it currently is.
    What to do for fun

    Take the train to New York City and visit neighboring colleges/universities.

    The food for the student who dorm is not to good, but the Starbucks and University Center cafe offers great food during the week.
    Dorm Life

    Dorm life is great freshman year but the campus is dead on the weekend since everyone goes home.
    Academic Rigor

    The classes aren't very challenging and it felt like I was in high school again because professors don't give out much work.

    Look for an on-campus job or get involved in clubs and organizations.

    Kean University has a safe, small, and beautiful campus. The classes sizes are small so you can develop relationships with your professors. The student body is very diversity so you become familiar with other students culture and lifestyle other than your own.

    Food and Dining

    If you spend all of your flex dollars you will be miserable. The cafeteria food isn't wonderful, but it's tolerable. So save up the Cougar Dollars so you can utilize the other options on campus.
    Dorm Life

    The newer buildings are very nice. The suite style bedrooms attract a lot of prospective students. Other dorm buildings aren't so nice ,but many students choose these dorms because they are cheaper.
    Academic Rigor

    The classes are very easy minus a few higher level classes.

    Kean is a decent school. A lot could be improved, but there are worse off schools.

    If you are looking to be in a party school don't go to kean. Kean is a small university that deals with their students in an intimate level which is appreciated.

    Kean has improved a lot through out the years and now, as a senior, I am begining to enjoy a lot more than I use to. It is convinent and its not a big university which makes it better for students. I am happy to be graduating from Kean with a bachelors in public relations.

    I haven't found it yet. ther are some pool tables in the studnet center, but real fun? Haven't found it yet.

    I love having Starbucks on campus. but it is hard to find healthy food, especially a variety of it.

    It isn't as demanding as a program I just completed at UCC. But at the same time there is alot of work.

    Take the tour! I am always lost.

    There is an active police station based on the campus, but I've heard rumors of students getting mugged late at night in the parking lot. As a commuter student, this worries me. I also didn't see any police while I was touring the campus.
    Bang for the buck

    Much cheaper then the online school I was attending, even at an out of state price.
    What to do for fun

    The campus is gorgeous and has activities all the time.
    Food and Dining

    There is a Starbucks on campus, as well as a very good restaurant. The dining hall is everything that you expect out of a school cafeteria, not too bad, but its not your mom's cooking.
    Dorm Life

    I've heard dorm life is great from a friend, but I have no plans of living on campus myself.
    Academic Rigor

    I am so excited to begin taking classes here, the teaching staff comes highly recommended.
    Tips for prospective students

    If you are transferring, the transfer day is hectic and full of confused students. You should get there an hour early and plan on spending the entire day. Try and get a meeting with a staff member ahead of time, they will not come to you.

    There is a lot to be desired in the administration department. Transferring here is not an easy process but the programs are worth it. The teaching staff has been extremely helpful and pro-active with any request I've had so far.
