    Don't plan on finding a girlfriend here. The guy to girl ratio is like 10 to 1 and lets just say the girls who are here... well they are studying to be engineers

    It is quite pricey and it isn't easy to find a co-op right now...

    It is definitely a blast! There are so many clubs and activities to do, I haven't been bored yet

    I haven't had a professor I couldn't understand, and classes are small enough that I can ask the professor any questions I have, and they all know me by name.

    Students who like small a campus, small class sizes, and are sure that engineering is for them.
    Tips for prospective students

    With school semesters being only 11 weeks (to accommodate the co-op rotations) Kettering is definitely a challenge academically, so be prepared for that. Also be involved in as much in you can in high school; that will help you a lot when you start interviewing for your co-op job.
    Bang for the buck

    Kettering may look pricey, but lots of scholarships are offered and they're easy to get. Combine that with your co-op earnings and you can't go wrong. In addition, you'll be graduating with two years of work experience, which puts you ahead of other graduates who didn't do co-op.
    Am enjoying being here

    Attending an engineering school is great because all of my friends are taking similar, if not the same, classes as me. This allows for a great academic support system and as a result I have made life long friends. I also love being on a small campus where there is small class sizes and all the buildings are within easy walking distance. Above all else, what I love about Kettering the most is it's cooperative education program. I have learned so much and had so many amazing opportunities through my co-op job, I would never go anywhere else. Kettering helped me secure my co-op position before I even graduated from high school!
    Am learning a lot

    Kettering challenges you to be the best that you can be and has a curriculum specifically focused on engineering. You dive right into your engineering classes your freshman year!

    Students who want real-world experience through a co-op job while learning material so that they can apply theory to real life.
    Tips for prospective students

    Be prepared to learn. Kettering student body is broken into two sections so that half can be in school and the other half can work at their co-op job. These sections switch every three months. Thus, each class is condensed from the typical full-year school year to just those three months.

    If you can work hard and enjoy a fast and efficient course study this is a great place for you.

    Be ready for a tough and fast school term, but there even with all the work you have to do there is still time on weekends to meet new friends and to try out all the fun and exciting club activities.

    A little pricey, but its offset a little by the co-op opportunity and the large amount of in-term student jobs.

    The teachers were always available and very helpful. A very interesting mix of students which always makes each day a new experience.
    Did learn a lot

    The pace of learning is a little fast but if you're able to keep up you will learn more in a week than you did in a month of high school.

    Anyone with the drive to succeed. It's definitely a school that rewards you for dedicating yourself to getting things done.
    Tips for prospective students

    Be prepared for class. Don't procrastinate. Get involved and get to know people around campus. Sometimes the greatest help you can get is sitting in a room down the hall.
    Bang for the buck

    It's a pretty pricey college, but well worth it. Co-op is a big help with keeping the cost down (once you find a co-op job) and there are plenty of scholarships available, especially if you're a good student.

    There are plenty of activities/clubs/whatever to be involved with, or if you prefer not to do so, you can keep to yourself and speed through college no problem.
    Am learning a lot

    The teachers are extremely helpful and easy to understand. If you put the effort forth and show that you want to learn something, you'll have no problem doing just that.

    If people tend to call you a nerd or a geek, you will probably fit in just fine here. If you like hands-on learning, you will love it here. If you like to build stuff, blow stuff up, or just like math and science, you'll do great here.
    Tips for prospective students

    If you are looking to save money, you may be better off taking your General Education and basic math and science courses at a community college and transferring the credits. If you do this, make sure beforehand that the courses you take will transfer. They have a course equivalency system on their website that will tell you what will transfer.

    Kettering is pretty expensive, but they do give decently sized scholarships to most people.

    Even in your freshman term you get fun labs with things like casting, welding, machining, and playing with the crash-test sled. There are all kinds of extracurricular activities you can be involved in. I have been told that if you know where to go you can get free pizza every day of the week. In Physics Club we used a vacuum canon to shoot ping pong balls through pizza boxes.
    Am learning a lot

    This is a great school if you are ready to work hard and learn a lot. Most of the teachers I have had had are great, and the ones who were not were in easy classes where you could learn all the material just from reading the book anyway. Classroom size tends to be small, especially in labs, so instructors have more time for you if you need it. Learning tends to be hands-on, which is beneficial to the way most students learn best.

    Tips for prospective students

    Go to class, on time, everytime. Do your homework, even if it's not required. Don't slack! Don't pull all-nighters before a test.
    Bang for the buck

    Kettering is pretty expensive, but it's totally worth it! The co-op program helps offset the cost and help you prepare for your future! I was able to land a co-op job with NASA at the Kennedy Space Center. Even though I may have some student loans, Kettering helped me get my foot in the door at an amazing Government Agency!
    Am enjoying being here

    Although Kettering's courses are difficult, I enjoy being here because I know it's right. This place thinks like I think. Kettering brings excitement to learning!

    Kettering University is an extremely challenging University that is completely based on the co-op program. Kettering is a great school to be challenged in a unique way to provide the best learning environment possible.

    Kettering is primarily an engineering college, so it's good for engineers of course! Also great for physic/math majors.
    Tips for prospective students

    If you want to come here, you need to be willing to work. The classes are challenging and you'll have to apply yourself to do well, but you can have fun at the same time once you learn basic time-management skills.

    No denying it. Kettering is expensive. But keep your grades up and you're bound to get either a need based or merit based scholarship.

    Contrary to the belief that this is a geek school, I've made lots of friends! I'm a girl, and I'm not a Star Wars/WoW fanatic, and you don't need to be some crazy gamer/nerd to fit in at this school. On top of that, there are lots of activities to get involved in and it's a friendly atmosphere where everyone is willing to help you.

    Visit the campus, keep your grades up, look for scholarships, decide what you are going to major in and plan to stick with it.
    Bang for the buck

    Kettering University may seem to have a high sticker price, but there is plenty of opportunity to make money and earn money that will help you pay for your schooling. They have their merit scholarships that help a great deal as well as their co-op programs in which you can earn enough money to pay for a quarter of your tuition. There are also grants and other financial aid offers that are easy to find and apply for.
    Will enjoy being here

    I'm from California and I visited Kettering in March when it was snowing and it was just beautiful. It ay have been cold, but the school is built for it. They have an underground tunnel-way where students can walk from building to building, underground, without getting wet or cold. The dorms are also small, but private, with one person to a room and they can be customized in almost any way that you want. You can also personalize the wall outside your room if you would like as long as you get permission from the school.
    Will learn a lot

    Scholarship not only has great programs, but they also have one of the largest co-op opportunities where you work, hands-on, with a company in your field of study. You get paid a nice amount that will help cover tuition and books and room and much more.

    I say that it is a must that you go greek! Mostly all of the campus is greek and many of you would be afraid of the hazing stories you here about fraternitys but being such a small school none of that goes on here.

    Campus is nice for being in flint but needs a major renovation. The area surrounding the school is a bad area but if you dont travel on the streets at night alone you will be fine. School cafeteria food is also horrible

    The campus itself isnt that great but always switching back and forth between school and work is awsome! You may not have the normal college life but there is still plenty to do off campus and having a paid coop always gives you plenty of money to do what you need with it.

    I am learning real engineering expirience. Your expirience comes from the coops that hire you. I am working at a interior manufacturing design company that makes dashboards for cars and have worked hands on with many future upcoming cars and I am now only a softmoore 1!

    Students interested in an engineering, math, science, or business degree while gaining practical work experience through co-op.
    Tips for prospective students

    Classes take a lot of effort. We pack a 16 week course into 11 weeks, and if you stumble, it's hard to catch up. But most professors are quite understanding. Any time you have problems, be sure to let them know and more often than not, they'll work with you.
    Bang for the buck

    While Kettering is expensive, they're very generous of their need and merit based aid. And when you budget your earnings from your co-op properly, there shouldn't be too much of an issue. As of 2012, there are now more jobs than students again.
    Am enjoying being here

    I definitely made the right choice in coming here. There's tons of clubs to get involved in and the school is filled with great people. I co-op in Atlanta in the spring and fall, so I get to enjoy great weather for most of the year. This place thinks like I think.
    Am learning a lot

    You learn a ton here. The classes are small and you're working one on one with professors in all of your classes. There are no TA's or grad students teaching classes. Even the basic gen ed classes hold less that 40-50 people.

    There are one or two issues every term with someone getting mugged or something getting stolen. The school is in Flint, so there are bound to be problems. The school has several Flint Police officers patrolling the area around Kettering at all times.
    Greek Life

    Large greek life, roughly 30-40% of the student body is greek. 10 Fraternities and 3 Soroites,
    Clubs and Activities

    Too many clubs to list. It is also very easy to start a new one.
    Great for these types of students

    Aspiring Engineers. Those who want one on one interaction with a real professor (no TA's).
    Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

    Painting the bulldog, it gets a fresh coat of paint almost daily, and during rush and pledging, it gets painted hourly.
    Bang for the buck

    Kettering is kind of pricey (all private schools are), but the real world work experience from the co-op job really makes up for it. You will graduate with 2 years or more of actual on the job experience over that of people graduating from other schools.
    What to do for fun

    There's plenty of clubs to join, a large greek community, a nice rec center to work out at. Downtown Flint always has things going on. Flint is near Lansing, Ann Arbor, and Detroit (all within an hour).
    Food and Dining

    I would give it 2.5 stars, nothing really special about the dorm food.
    Dorm Life

    There's only one dorm building with around 250 to 300 people living in it. Its very easy to be anti social, if you get involved though, there's plenty to do.
    Academic Rigor

    Freshman level classes are pretty easy, but once you get into your major, the professors will push you.
    Tips for prospective students

    Get involved. There's a lot of clubs, greek life, student government, community service. For how small the school is, there's plenty to do outside of school to keep you busy. Find a club, or start one, get involved with greek life, do whatever you want, just get involved.

    Safety could be a bit better but considering that we're in Flint...it's pretty good for what it is. The new president of Kettering has recently implemented some new safety policies (including deputizing aka getting training for some of our safety officers)
    Greek Life

    There are multiple sororities and fraternities on both sections as well as honor societies. The greek life is very active on campus
    Clubs and Activities

    There are numerous clubs on campus and there is almost always something going on. Fencing, paintball, gaming, frisbee, soccer, outdoors, grill, dance, etc.

    The education and life experiences you gain from this school are invaluable. College is expensive in general but Kettering seems to be less bank-breaking than other schools.
    What to do for fun

    There are fun on-campus activities. Spring-Fall has numerous events held by Flint to encourage community and college interactions (the CRIM, farmer's market, etc).
    Food and Dining

    The food was decent when I came to Kettering 4 years ago. Since then, the school has gone to great lengths to improve the quality of food offered by Ernie's (cafeteria), sunset room, and cafes.
    Dorm Life

    The dorms aren't bad. They could be cleaner, quieter, better internet, temperature control, etc. However, for what they are compared to other places I've seen, the dorms at Kettering are above decent.
    Academic Rigor

    The classes and 12-week rotations are rigorous. Be prepared to study your butt off and work hard. You may come in with a 4.0 from high school and think you're prepared but think again. After Kettering, everything else will seem easy.
    Tips for prospective students

    Try your hardest to attain a co-op prior to attending. Furthermore, try to find a co-op that suits your interests and will last your terms at Kettering. Do not settle when you attend this school. While at Kettering, fight for your interests (clubs, projects, etc.) and achieve your dreams by pushing yourself.

    Co-op is extremely helpful in paying tuition and the co-op managers are good enough. The majority of professors are extremely good and quite knowledgeable in their fields. The changes happening at Kettering are a benefit to the students and I would recommend this school to students

    although it is very expensive (to the tune of $36K a year) I learned more at kettering and had a better work experience than I did in a year at a public college. Also, I have been at Kettering for a year and have already been offered a job at a well know engineering firm when I graduate.

    There is not much to do in Flint, but the relationships between students are awesome. Tons of clubs and groups to be a part of.

    The food is what you would expect at a school cafeteria, bland.

    I had a great time while in the dorms, everyone gets their own room, which is awesome. But most people don't live in their dorms by the second term, as there is a strong greek presence on campus.
    Academic Rigor

    The studies can become quite a handful, taking many terms with 20 credit hours and only 11 week semesters. However you go to school for only 22 weeks and work for 24 while in school.

    If you want to be prepared for the real world and practically guaranteed a job upon graduation Kettering is the school for you.

    There is an endless amount of clubs you can join and it doesn't matter what your major is. If you are interested then you can join. My favorites are the paintball club and the gamers club.

    This school is a dream come true for the engineering student. The opportunities here are endless and you will definitely leave this school with the sense that you truly learned during your 5 year experience. The cooperative learning process is also brilliant. Working while going to school? At top companies around the United States? Kettering can set those kinds of opportunities up for you from the time you step foot on campus.

    Definitely worth it. With all the education you can receive and all of the knowledge that you can obtain, I wouldn't want to be anywhere else but Kettering.
    What to do for fun

    It all depends on what you like to do. Around campus there are lots of events that take place so there is always something available for each individual.

    Besides the cafe, there are plenty of events around the campus that provide good food also. There is generally no need to go out for food because all of the food you need is right there on campus.
    Dorm Life

    I do not live in the dorms, but from what I hear, the dorms are pretty nice. The rooms are clean and you have enough space to do what you need to do in order to be comfortable.
    Academic Rigor

    The curriculum here accommodates your specific engineering degree. So you don't have to take all of those unnecessary courses like at other universities. Every course challenges your mind to think and create solutions for problem solving. The fact that the teachers are so knowledgeable and can push your mind to the limit, makes it even more enjoyable.
    Tips for prospective students

    Use your resources abundantly. Never be afraid to ask questions or say you need help. People are always willing to help you and make sure that you achieve your goals. Kettering is like a close knit community so there is always someone there with an answer for your questions.

    Campus Safety

    Flint is one of the most dangerous cities in the nation, however, Kettering is safe. There are always cops patrolling the campus and through the neighborhoods to ensure that students are safe.
    Greek Life

    40% of Kettering is Greek. People who join the Greek Life tend to be the most involved people in the school. They are also the most social and outgoing. Independents tend to be the geekier types. I do not have anything against people who watch anime and enjoy larping, but we have quite a few of those.
    Clubs and Activities

    Kettering has an enormous amount of clubs. All these clubs are made by students and run by students. There are mudboggers, firebirds, American Society of Engineers, Society of Woman Engineers, Student Alumni Council, Kettering Student Government, Panhellenic Council, Inter Fraternal Council. So many things that students can be a part of. There are also intramural sports and anyone can join in if they make a team. They're a ton of fun.
    Great for these types of students

    Kettering is good for anyone who is naturally good at math and sciences. Anyone can go to this school and find some one that they can be friends with. There is such a variety of the types of people.

    There is a building called the Campus Center. Students all the front of the building, The Pool. And the field next to the pool is the beach. On the beach, we have a bulldog that everyone paints. Fraternities are usually the ones that paint it to advertise their rush events.

    Kettering is very expensive, but I have enjoyed my time here. People are great, although most are strange, but that's what makes Kettering different. Classes are not large which makes it easy to talk to professors. And professors really encourage interaction with them. They want to help as much as they can.
    What to do for fun

    It depends on the section you go. A-section school term starts in July and ends in September. B-section school term starts in October and goes till December. During the summer term for A-section, it's a blast. Everyone is outside grilling burgers and hot dogs. You can always find people playing beach volleyball or corn-hole. There are large fields where you can play soccer, football, softball, or ultimate frisbee. There is also a very nice recreational center with a pool, 2 full basketball courts, 2 full tennis courts, dance studio, all exercise machines, and running track.
    Food and Dining

    For my experience at Kettering, the food was not very good. Although currently the entire cafeteria is under construction to make it more for students. There is another room that has a cafe. This is also under construction and they are adding more things to sell including Starbucks.
    Dorm Life

    Dorms are small, but you get your own room. There is a sliding door between two rooms. The person in the room connected to yours is your suitemate. They provide all the necessities such as beds, desk, bookshelf, closet, two dressers, and a trashcan. Since the school is small, it is easy to make friends very quickly.
    Academic Rigor

    Kettering is very challenging. The way the university works is that you have class for 10 weeks and 1 week for finals. What most people do at other universities for 16 weeks, Kettering students do in 10. It's fast paced and intense. Since Kettering is an engineering school, you get more in-depth of all your math and science courses.
    Tips for prospective students

    Get used to packing since you move every 3 months. Learn to study even if you didn't in high school. Kettering's classes that you may have taken in high school are much harder. Be good at making friends because you're going to need their help in your classes. It's good to have a group of friends to work with since each person has different skills.

    Campus security always on patrol keeping it safe. There are still a few incidents per year but they can be avoided if students choose to take care and act smart

    About 50% of students are involved in greek life so it has a huge presence on campus.

    tons of free food and great free activities. If you want a club that doesn't exist yet, you can start it.
    Great for these types of students

    Engineering students. Business students. If you are nerdy, you will fit right in, no problem. Stronger personalities fit in but are not too dominant unlike other schools.
    Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

    The tunnel connects all of the major buildings on campus so during winter, you never have to go outside. Also the Beta Theta Pi fraternity lives in a hotel converted into a student center. I'm not aware of any unusual traditions as I've only been in for one term.

    It is expensive. but the internships are paid and the co-op experience makes it worth the cost.
    What to do for fun

    Tons of clubs offer free food and a lot of fun free activities. Parties every weekend. Though the parties are full of dudes. haha.

    Again, didnt really have a food plan, being a transfer student, it was never required. I hear the food place kinda sucks tho. They are making changes though.

    I never had to live in the dorms, being a transfer student, so I cannot rate these accurately

    11 week terms with 4 classes each makes for a very rigorous schedule.

    Find a way to socialize with women in other schools because there are hardly any here.

    Kettering is a great school with a fantastic co-op program. The term schedule is a bit of an adjustment from semesters but is well worth it. There are barely any women here which makes life a bit rough.

    They do a very good job of implementing security, especially since it's in Flint, MI, which is not the safest of places. But you'll never have to step outside. The tunnels allow you to stay dry in the rain, and safe at night and day.

    If you go off-campus you'd better be in a car and/or know where you're going - but while you're ON campus you're quite safe. There's a tunnel that goes under University Avenue if it's dark (or rainy, or slippery), and you can have Campus Safety escort you to your car if you'd like.

    Plenty of it. I'm not in any of these organizations though so I can't comment too much on it - but you'll see them out barbecuing and such sometimes.

    There's quite a variety of different clubs. Gaming club, biking club, there's a club that tries to design a racecar every year... anime club if you're into that... there's a volunteer band and choir... also, if you can't find a club that suits your interests you can get a list of signatures and the school will let you start your own (the clubs have to do this every year anyway).

    Lots of greek organizations. People painting the Bulldog. Every unit gets a budget for some activity, and to paint part of the hall if they can come up with a design.     It's expensive. Be prepared - at one time it was half-expected that you'll nearly be able to pay tuition with the money you make from your co-op, nowadays that's increasingly uncommon. Apply for all the scholarship money you can.

    There's a cinema off of Corunna about three miles away. Also, be aware that Kettering holds a Global Issues Film Festival if you're into that sort of thing... seems like it's about 7th week. The Greek organizations will have various events as well, try to pay attention to what's going on.

    The only good things about the food are the convenience and the fact that you can talk at the table with your friends. There's a discount card for places in the surrounding area - get one. A few places worth looking up: Hong Da (chinese), Mancino's (pizza and grinders), Banana Boat (ice cream)

    The dorms themselves are in bad need of an upgrade. But at least they TRY to organize events and such for you to take part in.

    Kettering University does occasionally have problems with campus safety. This is mostly because of the university's location in Flint, Michigan. However, the campus safety department does frequently patrol the area, including the parking lots, and will even offer to drive you to or from campus to a location within a mile.
    Greek Life

    Kettering University has something on the order of 17 fraternities and sororities, all of which have a noticeable presence on campus. The fraternity and sorority houses are all fairly close to campus, and are always open to new members. They frequently have philanthropic and community support events.

    There are many clubs at Kettering University. We have an Asian-American Association, a chemical engineering club, Outdoors club, Dance club, fencing club, choir, band, mixed martial arts club, grilling club, off-road club, an ultimate frisbee team, a hockey team, a physics club, and even a chess club.

    Nerdy, science and math types are always welcome, as are students interested in cars and all things automotive. Students interested in computer science and engineering are always welcomed as well. The majority of the student body is composed of mechanical engineering majors.

    We have The Beach, which is a large courtyard on campus, on which is a statue of a bulldog which is painted every few days by student organizations and fraternities.     The dining facility was recently renovated and the quality of food was improved. The dining facility is close to the dorms. One can even use the tunnel to get there. The facility serves three meals per day in the Sunrise Room. One can purchase food items in the Sunset Room at any time.

    Kettering University has a single dormitory building. The rooms are singles and suites, which is somewhat desirable. There are many events aimed specifically at those who live in the dorms, often with free food. Tutors are often available for those who need extra help. One can rent movies from the front desk of the dorms. There is even a tunnel to the main academic building that allows one to go to class without going outdoors on bad weather days.

    With Kettering University being located in Flint, MI there is a negative impression about the local community. While there are parts of the surrounding area I wouldn't venture, the campus is safe and the Campus Security Department makes sure we are.
    Greek Life

    One of the cool things that the Greeks do is on move in day. When my parents and I pulled into the parking lot, several guys dressed in t-shirts with the same Greek symbols step up and make themselves available to help carry all of your belongings to your room. We made it up the 4th floor in one trip with the help of these guys. This went a long way to making you feel welcome and that students here are all part of the same team.
    Clubs and Activities

    Even though I have been here a few short weeks, I have already gotten involved in the Intramural outdoor soccer program, the Panhellenic volleyball league, Choir, Pre-Med Club, and the Outdoor Club---and I am just scratching the surface of what is available.

    Students entering the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) programs should definitely consider this school.

    There is a ton of things to do--intramural sports, choir, outdoor club, Pre-Med club, scuba, Greeks (frat/sorority), community service activities, movies at the local theater, ice cream and Banana Boat, etc.

    The common breakfast, lunch, and dinner times are convenient with class times and there is a wide variety of offerings.

    I have been so lucky to be a part of Unit #42. The people in this unit have voted to have an open door policy meaning, if you have the special brick (we all painted one) propping your door open, anyone can stop in at any time. If not, then your privacy will be honored. Unit #42 also goes out of its way to invite and include people in activities. We even all eat together in the dining hall even though we don't have to. It ends of being a lot of tables pulled together but the cohesiveness is great.
    Academic Rigor

    The classes are challenging but the professors are willing to help.
    Tips for prospective students

    Besides attending classes, do not hesitate to get involved right away. It helps you make connections to others more quickly and these connections can help you when you don't understand an assignment, want to save money on buying books (pool resources and share books) and find the balance between school and fun.

    So far I have found Kettering University to be a very friendly university where students and staff go out of their way to help freshman make the transition to college life. Moreover, it is expensive because it is a private college, which are always more expensive than your state's college. If you go out of your state, the actual cost is about the same, not including the scholarships and co-op money that you can get at Kettering.
    What to do for fun

    There are many clubs on campus, like a Gamer's Club that holds a Magic the Gathering draft tournament and Anime Club that holds an Animefest, 36 hours of Anime straight.

    The food is alright right now, but it will be getting even better. The cafeteria itself is really nice.

    The dorms are kind of old, but it looks nice enough, it has air conditioning (which many dorms at bigger colleges do NOT have), and you have a room to yourself with a door between you and you suite-mate, though you still have community bathrooms.

    This university is located on one of the most dangerous towns in the United States. Kettering has just started stepping up the security for students. The security has vehicles and are now being deputized. I've still never felt threatened at this school though.
    Greek Life

    The Greek community is different during A-section. They have more respect for themselves and don't rush with alcohol at some fraternities. There is a good amount of people who go Greek. If you don't go Greek at Kettering it means your probably socially awkward.
    Clubs and Activities

    There are clubs for anyone or anything and if there is not then you can make your own club very easily. I suggest getting involved.
    Great for these types of students

    People who are good at talking to people or are looking forward to getting a real job and seeing things as what I like to call, big boy life. You grow up really fast at this school so if you can adapt and can make your own decisions this might be the school for you. Just be prepared for no females, accelerated classes, and working 40+ hours a week on work term. Most co-ops make between $12 and $16 an hour on their co-op job and more and more companies seem to be paying for stipends(housing money).

    Throughout the summer Kettering's bulldog gets painted for rush events at fraternities. This is kind of cool to see throughout the summer and when you're a freshmen you can get a ton of free stuff. There's always somewhere to go after class for good food or just to have fun.

    School is pricey and demanding but will pay off in the long run. You get work experience and learn what you need to. Try to stay away from video games they can consume your life at a school like this.

    Get together with friends and go to the rec center to work out, play volley ball or possibly swim. Get on an intramural sports team. What I mostly did was hangout at Lambda Chi Alpha. They play volleyball all summer. Their house is right down the street at a safe convenient distance.

    The food at the cafe is not that great. You get used to it or learn to eat at a fraternity or sorority during rush events. The omelets in the morning are the best.

    The Dorm experience was great, you get a room to yourself and just share a door with a room mate. The bathroom and showers are community and right down the hall way. The dorms are old but there is enough room for all your things.

    The classes are hard and not only are they hard but you only get 12 weeks where as tradition colleges or state schools give their students 16 weeks with breaks. It's demanding but the material is all the same so any school you go to for engineering will be difficult.

    Be prepared to enter the business world. Don't be afraid of people or making new friends. This school is demanding. You become a full time employee for six months out of the year. Learn the most you can from the co-ops and become more marketable. Just do what you love. One more thing, don't go here for girls. There is way more girls than guys at this school so be prepared.

    Kettering school mascot is a bulldog and in front for Thompson Hall there is a statue of the Bulldog, and there is a tradition to spray paint the Bulldog. Iâ??ve seen everyone from clubs/organizations, different units in the dorms, Greek life and even faculty spray paint the Bulldog. . There are also two spots on campus, the Beach and the Pool, but donâ??t believe the names. The Beach is no more than a grassy, not sandy area in front of Thompson Hall and the Pool is a concrete area in front of the Campus Center. Legend has it that the area called the pool was suppose to be filled with water and actually become a pool but it never happened, and the name just stuck.
    Bang for the buck

    It is definitely worth coming to Kettering. With all of the activities and resources that are available for the students there is no way one can ever get bored and not know what to do. The co-op program also makes Kettering one of a kind and that alone would be enough to make a prospective student choose Kettering. Yes Kettering is on the expensive side but with all of the information you are learning and with all of the networking you will be doing just by attending this school and going to certain meetings or meeting the right people at your Co-op job is simply phenomenal and worth every penny.
    What to do for fun

    For fun I love to go to the recreational center. There are a number of activities that are available for students to take part in. for example basketball, tennis, ping pong, racket ball, volleyball there is a track a swimming pool as well a jacuzzi two work out gyms as well as a room with hardwood floors and mirrors that can be used for anything from yoga to dancing. There is also an area on the first level of the Campus Center Building called BJâ??s lounge. The lounge has a number of couches and chairs, and big screen TV, billiards tables, as well as a foosball table. But what I enjoy the most are the times that you can get to know the people around you and bond over a movie or a book that you have in common.
    Food and Dining

    Iâ??ve heard horror stories about college food before I made it to high school so I came in with low expectations. But I was shocked when I realized that the food was not bad at all. No it is not your mother or grandmothers cooking but itâ??s also not what you expect college food to be like. At Kettering the dining hall is called Sunrise Café, but it is known to the students and the Alumni as Ernieâ??s. Ernieâ??s is open for breakfast lunch and dinner during the week days and brunch and dinner on the weekends. All dishes for every meal are served buffet style. There is always a soup of the day, an open salad bar as well as a deli counter where cold cut sandwiches are served. You can also count on there being pizza with an assortment of different toppings, the grill station that serves fries and burgers and all other grilling items and a pasta dish with different sauces bread and mixed vegetables. There is also a main dish that the head chef pre-pares every night. Sometime the days are themed so there might be a special ethnic dish or sometimes it will simply be the chefs choice, my favorite is when the chef decides to make breakfast for dinner. There is also a dessert bar that always has an assortment of cookies, cakes, pies and ice cream. Since Ernieâ??s does close at 7pm on week days and 6:30pm on weekends there is a Campus Center Store, which is open every day from 8am to 11pm, the Campus Center Store or CC for short has everything your local convenience store would have, college campus safe of course and it comes in handy when youâ??re in need of a study snack.
    Dorm Life

    Dorm life is just awesome. It is everything I expected it to be. Thompson Hall has four floors houses all of Kettering freshman as well has some upper classman. Each room is a single room that is connected to another room by a door, but that is not all, Thompson Hall had many different amenities that appealing to the residents that live there. Some including the two computer lounges located on the fourth and third floor. Each lab has 5-6 computers, a printer and a scanner. There is a lobby on the second from with two big flat screen couches, a fire place, TVâ??s and ping pong table as well as an endless supply of bored games, jigsaw puzzles and games systems. The first floor is where the tutoring lounge is and that room also has two computers. And lastly the basement is where the laundry facilities are held as well as student storage. Kettering allows out of state students to leave their stuff in storage when it is no longer academic term and they are not living on campus. Overall Thompson Hall is a great place to live!
    Academic Rigor

    Because Kettering does the Co-op program the academic calendar is broken down into four terms and two sections, A and B. Take me for example, I am on A section, this means that I go to school in the summer and winter and I work at my Co-op job in the fall and spring. Each term is only 12 weeks long so Kettering goes very fast when it comes to academics, because you have to learn everything in half the time that other students at other Universities learn them. However tutoring is available at every corner. There is a special department in the Academic Building dedicated to tutoring and there is ever a tutor lounge in Thompson Hall where the students live!
    Tips for prospective students

    Please do your research on Kettering before you make the decision to attend this university, because it is not a traditional college. If you do decide to attend Kettering make sure you know everything there is to know about the Co-op experience. It is truly a blessing to get the chance to work next to people that are actually doing what you are going to someday do while still an undergrad student. Before you do get a co-op job make sure you do your research all of the prospective companies that are interested in students in your field of study, because they may be your employer/s when you graduate. Lastly have fun and try new things, not everyone has the chance to attend University/College, so make this an experience you will not forget.
