Great for these types of students

Students who want a smaller school and have less money to spend would definitely like LCC. It's also great for a variety of majors. There are great art, literature, physical education, and science classes. Those who want certifications are 2 year degrees are ideal, because LCC offers those two. You can also transfer from LCC to a University. It makes it much easier and you are more likely to earn scholarships and grants to attend the more expensive school based on your time at Lane.

    Tips for prospective students

If you decide to attend Lane Community, be aware that the enrollment is at its highest ever. The parking is more crowded than usual, but these are small problems. One area that can be obnoxious is in building 1. You have to take a number to get any assistance, and many of the people who could be working an information window are not. It is sometimes hard to get help unless you are there really early.

    Bang for the buck

The tuition is tiny. Each class is less than 100$ on average, and some are only slightly higher. Also, I was able to get a fair amount of financial aid without having a high GPA and lots of extracurricular activities. I am going to be able to do one term of college for less than 2,000 dollars.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is not too big, but still has space to make you feel like you are attending a college and not a high school. There are a variety of plants, sculptures, sitting areas, and different shaped buildings. It's a beautiful campus. Diversity is also huge, being that the school is in Eugene. All types of people attend the school, and it's fun to look at them and get to know them.

    Am learning a lot

There are wide range of classes to take at Lane. I was enrolled in a Human Sexuality class where I learned so many things that you really are not allowed to learn in high school. They covered every aspect of sexuality you could imagine. There are several different types of English classes, including fun classes. In one, you analyze the lyrics of Bob Dylan as poetry and literature. I took a Shakespeare class, and learned about his works in a different way than I did in high school. The professor was encouraging and funny.

Great for these types of students

Students who can not get into four year colleges. Students who have not been able to graduate. Students who are worried about being in a big school. Students who have children that are infant to toddler age that they want to be near. Lane has a great daycare!!!!

    Tips for prospective students

Do your homework and always let your teacher's know ahead of time if you are not able to make it to class. If you have a child and want to be home with your child talk to your counselor and they will let them know that you would like to look into online classes. They are always happy to help!

    Bang for the buck

Getting scholarships and loans for Lane Community College has been the easiest thing I have ever done. They make it easy by having an office just for getting money to pay for school!

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy being at Lane Community College because it is a smaller college and I have been able to make friends and in turn have made some study buddies. Lane also has really good online classes that make it easy for me to be a mother and a student at the same time. My teachers have always been understanding if my daughter gets sick. They have always given me extra time to finish work if I am not able to get it in right away.

    Am learning a lot

I have been able to learn how to become a better parent at Lane by taking a few courses on early childhood education. I have also learned how to become a better writer and have been able to win one award for my high school because of the great writing teachers. I got third place and $300 because of it.

    Academic Rigor

my first time in community college wasn't like this, i feel challenged and i leave every term feeling like i have advanced my knowledge in the subjects i am studying, not like i have wasted my time. i feel that i make connections with my teachers and they themselves become resources in my life. so far not one moment in any class has left me bored, i am kept on my toes at every turn.

    Tips for prospective students

my suggestion to everyone starting at lcc is to utilize all the resources made available to you. we have bus passes paid for in our fees, a helpful financial aid dept., counseling dept. that can help you plan out your time at lane, access to an on campus health clinic also paid for in our fees, as well as free legal aid and many more services.

    In three sentences

lane community college is a great school with a hard working, friendly faculty that give personal attention to their students which is made easy by our smaller class sizes. also, lcc has a sustainable organic garden on campus, run by students and that is utilized by our culinary department and classes on sustainable living abound here because our community is so dedicated to green alternatives and options. our performing arts department is unsurpassed, with shows put on throughout the year by lcc's production company run entirely by students in the spa (student production association) plus jazz/classical/contemporary concerts and dance performances by both by students and faculty.

Great for these types of students

LCC is great for older students, lower income students and students looking for simple 2 year AAS degrees.

    Tips for prospective students

For prospective students, I highly recomend the Effective Learning 115 course. It is a great introduction into study skill, time management, note taking and more. Just bear in mind that being a community college there will be alot of student straight out of high school that don't take their education seriously and can tend to be a distraction.

    Bang for the buck

Like most community colleges, LCC is a great value for the price, at an average of right around $1300 per term, including books it feels like a great value. This price covers 4 classes.

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy attending LCC, it's not too large and very convenient that they have a satelite campus where I live, I live 25 miles from their main campus. Being a smaller community college it has a more intimate feel than a major university, all my professors so far still recognize me in the hallways and stop to say hi and catch up.

    Am learning a lot

At LCC the opportunities and classes are great, I have learned alot of new information since beginning. My favorite class and most beneficial so far has been Effective Learning 115. This course taught me all sorts of different and new study habits and procrastination management. The other courses I have taken so far have been very informative so far.

Great for these types of students

This school would be great for students wanting to make the most of their money and working students.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply for classes early because they fill up fast. Also, make sure to come to campus early because parking can be difficult.

    Bang for the buck

I feel that my tuition is being put to good use. Their library doesn't charge for printing. The teachers are knowledgable on what they are teaching. There are a lot of extra ways you can receive academic help.

    Am enjoying being here

This school offers a wide variety of times and days for classes, which is really helpful for me since I have to fit working into my schedule.

    Am learning a lot

In every one of the classes I have taken at Lane, I have left the class feeling that I actually walked away with the proper knowledge on the subject that I should. The teachers are always willing to help make sure you understand the course work and there are a lot of helpful resources available.

Great for these types of students

Great for all students from ANY demographic. All age, gender and ethnic groups are represented equally and no one stands out more than the next person. Great place full of accepting people.

    Tips for prospective students

Get to all meetings and offices early in the morning. Lane is a very busy school! Offices open at 9am, be there a little before then or you'll be waiting for two or more hours. Also, parking is a pain. Get there early even if its just for a parking spot.

    Bang for the buck

Lane Community College offers you education that is equal to a University's for a fraction of the cost.

    Am enjoying being here

Very helpful staff, free medical clinic for students, poor cafeteria food.

    Am learning a lot

Quality teachers, classes and education. Great Nursing Program and Art Program. Helpful staff and aide offices.

Great for these types of students

Lane is great for students planning to transfer to a four-year university to finish out they degree, for students wanting an Associates degree, or for students who want to be part of one of their technical schools, like welding or aviation maintenance.

    Tips for prospective students

Join study groups, use the tutor center, don't be afraid to ask questions.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition here is a third of what it costs to attend the university. The credits transfer well to most of the Oregon university system, so yes, great bang for the buck.

    Did enjoy being here

The campus is made complete of concrete, which makes it seem rather foreboding at first, but academically it is pretty good.

    Did learn a lot

The instructors all give plenty of their time to answering student questions and making time for office hour visits.

From what I've seen, Lane has a pretty safe campus

    Clubs and Activities

Lots of clubs and Activities on Campus

    Bang for the buck

From what I've seen so far, Lane is less expensive than most schools i've researched.

    What to do for fun

At Lane, there are a lot of activities and extra curricular activities to do on campus. For example, they have a lot of clubs and programs on campus like NASA( Native American Student Association). They also have activities like sports, choir, and programs like that.

    Food and Dining

I've eaten once in Lane's cafeteria. Their food is excellent tasting and very cheap for students. The staff is very nice and the dining room is open and spacious with lots of windows overlooking the courtyard.

    Dorm Life

Lane Community doesn't have any options for dorms on campus. I think they should because the campus is in the middle of no where and it's really far to drive. With gas being so much right now, they should build dorms on campus for students who don't have a lot of financial means to drive that far to school everyday.

    Academic Rigor

I don't know much about Lane Community's Academic success as I am a college freshman and I've never taken classes here before.

    Tips for prospective students

I would say the best tips for prospective students would be to start applying for scholarships and grants first. Even if you dont know what your major will be, at least you will have free money to start your prerequisites and to get your foot into college. Also if you don't have a clue what you want a degree in, start with the basic classes and get those out of the way and in the mean time be thinking about what career you would be good at.

    In three sentences

Lane Community College is very helpful. The college demonstrates the want to help students achieve their goals by providing resources that focus strictly on that goal. Lane Community is the best school in Oregon to get a jump start toward accomplishing goals for a greater future.

    Campus Safety

Despite a couple of cougar sightings, the campus is fairly safe. There are emergency buttons posted all around the parking lot which is usually lit until all students are gone. Campus safety alerts are sent out whenever there is any question about safety.

Great for these types of students

Lane is a great school for those who plan to transfer to a four year school, for those taking classes on a budget and for those who are returning to school after many years. The laid back environment is a great place to find your bearings when attending school.

    What to do for fun

Occasionally Lane throws some events worthy of attending. A couple months ago the campus held 'Lane Stock'. They had live groovy music playing on the main stage, with many vendors and food carts surround the area. I was actually impressed! For the most part, the campus is far from town so there isn't a lot to do, but when they throw events like this it is defiantly worth your time to check it out.

    Food and Dining

One cool thing about Lane is that the culinary program is tied in right with the cafeteria. You can get specials made from students at Lane that are actually really tasty! There is also a cafe on campus in case you are feigning for your coffee fix. The cafeteria has multiple healthy options to choose from, and there is even a hot dog cart outside. The only disappointment with the food service here is that they are not open after about four, so you're stuck with the vending machine if you are taking evening classes.

    Dorm Life

Lane currently has no dorms readily available to live in, but I know that they are in the process of building some sort of campus housing in the downtown area. It seems a little inconvenient to me to place them where they are since the campus is miles away in the middle of no where. It is close to the bus station and downtown library so students living there will have easy access to amenities. However, the building will probably not be able to house more than 50 people. I do not know if there are any plans to build more student housing complexes.

    Academic Rigor

As I have said before, Lane is EASY. It does vary from teacher to teacher, but overall I found that as long as I stayed caught up, I had no problem passing with A's and B's. The homework I have been given is pretty straightforward, usually the answers are quite blatantly stated in the text book. This at times can be kind of nice, but I find myself easily bored in many classes I have taken. I hope that the teachers can push to challenge their students more.

    Tips for prospective students

Lane isn't the best of schools, but its great for students who are unsure of what degree to pursue. Classes are cheap so take all of those that interest you. This will help you to decide on a major and will save you some cash if you plan to transfer later. Be aware though, that parking can be an issue. If you need to drive there for a morning class, get there EARLY or the lot will be packed. Better yet, take advantage of the free bus passes that Lane provides for all of their students.

    In three sentences

Lane is a great school if you are trying to complete prerequisites before a transfer, or if you are taking classes on a budget. Lane even has a variety of interesting classes from marine biology, to glass blowing. However, I do think that some of the materials presented in class are a little watered down.

There is a clothing donation building where you can go get free clothing for you and your family. This is a great asset for some.

    Bang for the buck

I believe the price is comparable to other similar institutions. However, for the price you do get smaller class sizes which is a plus.

    What to do for fun

As a nursing student, I don't have a lot of time for anything other than studying. There are various clubs around campus and the cafeteria normally has a form of entertainment for students. I have even seen live music provided.

    Food and Dining

There are various places to eat or pick up snacks and/or a full meal. There are a couple places to get coffee/espresso too which, in my opinion, is very important!

    Academic Rigor

Depending on the area of study, the academic rigor can be tough. I just finished the pre-nursing program and most of the classes were very challenging.

    Tips for prospective students

Plan ahead. Do not wait until the last minute to get program information such as program and enrollment requirements etc. Deadlines sneak up quickly and unexpectedly. Do not run late to class as parking can be a bear.

    In three sentences

Lane is a well recognized school that is convenient to attend if you live in the Eugene and surrounding areas. The student body is friendly and the instructors generally accessible and knowledgeable. Parking can be a bit tough, but planning ahead and/or arriving early can solve this problem.

    What to do for fun

There is nothing on campus to do for fun, but if you drive fifteen or so minutes away, you could go hiking at one of two 'mountains' during the dry months.

    Food and Dining

The campus does not have any restaurant options apart from the cafeteria. While the foods here are decent recipes made by culinary arts students, be prepared to eat one of the same ten to fifteen meals throughout each term.

    Dorm Life

The college does not currently offer any form of student housing, but will be opening deluxe student apartments for exorbitant prices at the beginning of the Fall 2012 term.

    Academic Rigor

As I have mentioned, the school's system comes, by default, with some difficulties, but they are easy to overcome if you are willing to do some additional learning on your own.

    Tips for prospective students

Be prepared for short terms, which can seem enticing at first, but can cause problems if you do not approach your studies rigorously.

    In three sentences

Lane Community College is an easily accessible credit institution located in Eugene, Oregon. Their class sizes are comfortable and their instructors friendly. If the college has one downfall, it is the ten week term system; this system limits the amount of actual teaching the instructors have time to do and leaves students to pick up on most information on their own time.

    Food and Dining

    Dorm Life

    Tips for prospective students

    Campus Safety

About once a year there is a bear or cougar on campus so students may have to watch out for them. I think I have only heard about minor thefts--backpacks and a bike or two. (Always use a good bike lock in Eugene!!!) Otherwise, a very safe campus.

Great for these types of students

People going back to school after a break or wanting to transfer to another Oregon college without spending so much money

    What to do for fun

Every year they hold Lanestock with bands and art sales and other fun stuff. The track and field trials for the Olympics are held in Eugene and the practice track is usually at LCC so you can go see the runners practice. OTW Eugene has a lot of fun stuff to do.

    Food and Dining

LCC has some food. It is mostly mediocre and over-priced but better than many schools.

    Dorm Life

This fall is the first year LCC is renting out rooms in it's dorm like apartments so I don't know anything about them

    Academic Rigor

    In three sentences

Good school for the price. I strongly recommend getting core courses out of the way here before attending U of O. Overall a above average Community College.

    Clubs and Activities

There is a very active student government and identity unions as well as regular clubs. They hold events throughout the year and make a huge difference in the campus community, it could use more students involved though.

    Bang for the buck

It is very inexpensive for the type of caliber the school is. It has many new buildings and technology and very good instructors that rival 4-year schools.

    What to do for fun

If you get involved in clubs and organizations, there is a lot of fun and informative events they hold. There is a lot of trails and hiking near or in Eugene. There is something for everyone in Eugene even though it is fairly small.

    Food and Dining

The food in the cafeteria is good, for a while. It is often the same food each week so even though it is delicious and a lot comes from our very own learning garden, choices can be limited. There is a lack of inexpensive healthy food.

    Dorm Life

There are student apartments but they are new, very expensive, and do not have the dorm life environment.

    Academic Rigor

I think academic rigor depends on what your course of study is and what courses you take. It is only a two year school so it doesn't have difficult upper level classes but it has a rigorous math, science, and business department.

    Tips for prospective students

Take advantage of the organizations on campus and get involved early and as much as you can, not only does it give you a good support system but helps open doors. There are some great teachers and some mediocre instructors so make sure you ask around and take the best available instructor.

Great for these types of students

Great for students getting a 2 year degree or completing the first 2 years of a Bachelors program for half the cost as a university.

    Bang for the buck

I have heard from many that they prefer LCC over University of Oregon.

    What to do for fun

There are quite a few options for recreational sports and activities that also count toward PE credit. I really like the Archery class.

    Food and Dining

The cafe is adequate, theres enough variety to eat there regularly and the prices are reasonable on most items. The food tastes great and is prepared by the culinary arts students in some cases.

    Dorm Life

There are no dormatories as its a community college.

    Academic Rigor

The general education courses are time consuming but not hard. When you are taking classes specifically for a degree, the workload and level of proficiency needed to continue increases dramatically.

    Tips for prospective students

Get your financial aid worked out well in advance, the FinAid office works slowly and not always accurately.

    In three sentences

Lane Community College has so many great programs to offer including Culinary arts, Health and Wellness, Music Performance and Teaching, Flight Technology and Maintenance and much more! The class sizes are small, around 15 to 30 students per class which makes it very easy to get help from the professor. The school has a rigorous faculty hiring procedure which accounts for its outstanding staff of teachers and professors.

Everything is home made at Lane Community College and a lot of it comes straight from the learning garden! That being said, everything they make can be made just as good, and for me better, at home rather than at school. The majority of their choices are too expensive, but the croissants are worth it.

    Dorm Life

This is a community college and shouldn't have dorms, but it does. They are way too expensive and exist for wrong reasons.

    What to do for fun

When I'm not shuffling from class to class I like to spend my time walking on the track. It looks out over a huge green scenery or trees and nature. It's almost an unbeatable sight. And on rainy days I sit in the medical building and look out to the track and scenery.

    Food and Dining

Food is delivered from a bunch of local restaurants and also cooked on site. Doesn't matter if you eat meat or don't or if you are gluten/ lactose intolerant, there will always be something you can enjoy at Lane.

    Dorm Life

Non-existent. This is a large community college, however nowhere near large enough to house it's student population. Maybe in a couple years you can transfer to a 4 year and enjoy the dorm life.

    Academic Rigor

Some of the instructor on campus are previous instructors at the University of Oregon, so you're getting the same education as those who spend 3 times the amount to go to a University. Most instructors are really friendly, and they really seem to be there for the students; not just a paycheck.

    Tips for prospective students

    1. Leave for school early - the parking lot will be full by 10 a.m. so unless you ride the bus, you better get there early. 2. Don't stress about overlapping finals - it WON'T happen. Lane has found a smart way of setting up finals week so that your finals will not overlap. 3. Study hard - remember, for every 1 hour of class you'll want to do about 2 hours of studying.

    In three sentences

Lane is an absolutely gorgeous campus to attend. It's completely surrounded by trees and nature. Academically, this school has it all, and the teachers really seem to WANT to instruct their students rather than HAVING to.

It will have all sorts of stations like Pan Asia, American Grill, Hispanic food, Indian food etc. I am very impressed with the plans I have seen.

    Dorm Life

I do not live in a dorm. They did however, build a fancy new student housing project last year.

    Academic Rigor

Stay a week ahead on your homework and try your hardest to get a 3.5 GPA or better, this helps with scholarship money. The programs they offer are challenging but they should be or we wouldn't be learning anything.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are enrolling for the first time make sure you take your placement tests and get your student L number. Go to the academic counseling office and speak to an adviser so you are not paying for classes you do not need.

    Campus Safety

Campus safety is pretty high on the list of priorities for LCC although most of the students seem to think that the campus security officers are a little big for their britches. Another words, the campus security can go a little overboard, but most of them bypass a lot and only say something when they have to.

    Clubs and Activities

Lots of student clubs and activities within.

    Bang for the buck

The education is what you make of it. If you ask the questions you need answers to, then you are more likely to succeed here. Otherwise some of the teachers are like the ones everyone has run into-you don't ask, therefore you must not have questions. I think you will find that this is the case most everywhere you go, however, there are so many options for getting extra help depending on your course. There are tutors available at no cost, and others that do cost. But it can't be said that options are not there for you to take advantage of.

    What to do for fun

There are many student clubs to join, or as most students like to do, there are bars around, some of which have karaoke. Taylors, Docs' Pad, and The Webfoot are great karaoke places to go to, although there are others. There is also lots of Volunteer Activities to get involved with, such as Egan Warming Center, and for medical students(or already licensed professionals) there are groups like Cahoots, and Occupy Medical to become involved in.

    Food and Dining

Cafeteria is available to students during the day, though it has some wierd hours sometimes.

    Dorm Life

I live off campus, in my own apartment. There is, however, student housing available at the Titan Court in Eugene Oregon. I do not have any information about the life within the walls there.

    Academic Rigor

In order to stay current with your courses, I recommend that you complete your homework as you get it, and review it during the week before turning it in. Math takes more and more effort as you go higher in your math classes. Writing will as well. Keep an open mind and focus on school because if you don't, you will find it easy to get behind.

    Tips for prospective students

If you don't know what you want, start out taking your Gen Eds, commonly known as your Core Classes; Reading, Writing, Math. Counselors are available to help you decide on a major and plan for what you want to get out of college. So take advantage of them.

The student body council is active and always looking for more people to join. They also have a long house that not only provides support for Native American students but holds classes that are available to all students and a pow wow that is held each year where everyone is invited to come watch for free. There are plays and musical concerts to be in or attend. The summer biology classes go on field trips to the beach to view the whales and ocean-life. The art department holds an art competition each year for the students where money can be won and the art work is publically displayed. There is always something going on.

Great for these types of students

Lane is a great place for any beginning student. I have received tons of helpful feedback from my peers and my counselor alike. My professors were very helpful in directing me appropriately. They know a lot of their students are fresh out of high school and work with those who seem lost.

    Bang for the buck

Lane is pretty inexpensive for the services it provides. I would say that it is very much worth the 12K a year.

    What to do for fun

There is lots to do for fun. The library is very large and extensive. There are several nice fields and open areas in which to pursue other recreational activities.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria at Lane is superb. They offer a wide variety of hot meals that go from turkey, mashed taters and gravy, all the way to a daily pizza bar. They also create sandwiches on request and have a great sushi station. It is a little on the spendy side, but I never felt bad about the food and service I received here.

    Dorm Life

I do not live in a dorm here, but I am sure it is not bad.

    Academic Rigor

Lane has excellent academic standards. Their professors are all incredibly professional and have been nothing but helpful. If you have a problem with any class that the professor cannot help with, the dean is incredibly open to questions by appointment (though understand they are very busy).

    Tips for prospective students

Come prepared to learn a lot. Don't belittle others ideas and questions, everyone is learning just like you. Be attentive because the professors cover a lot of details. I'd suggest a recorder for lectures.

Lane Community College attracted me for several reasons, the first and foremost being their attentive care to each individual student. I appreciate that the academic advisers care and are actively involved in helping students achieve their personal goals. Lane community college is of a much higher par than the other community college I attended in the past.

    Food and Dining

The food scene in Eugene and the college for that matter is pretty uninteresting. Everyone in the town thinks they know good food and how to cook and prepare it properly. Sadly, They are years from developing quality food that foodies appreciate.

    Dorm Life

I do not live in a dorm room.

    Academic Rigor

I am eager to see what LCC has to offer. I have yet to attend any classes but the placement test sure did refresh my memory of what I have forgotten over the years.

Anything outdoors. Eugene is great for that.

    Food and Dining

    Good food.

    Academic Rigor

For the most part, quite challenging.

    Tips for prospective students

A bad teacher will really mess you up. Check a teacher's rating before you enroll for their class.
