Great for these types of students

It's not really expensive compared to other colleges, it has a lot of class options, it has places that you can hang out at. Basically, it has something for everyone.

    Tips for prospective students

Stick to one campus. That way you have all of your classes in one spot and don't have to drive back and forth between campuses.

    Bang for the buck

You learn a lot, it's not that much money and to be a full time student, you only have to sign up for three or four classes.

    Am enjoying being here

It's a lot less restrictive than high school was.

    Am learning a lot

You learn a lot, and the professors are helpful and creative with their learning styles

If you want to get a high quality education for way less than a university , would like to have more contact with your professors, like the hustle and bustle of the city, like being conveniently located by many eating establishments/shopping and need a lot of flexibility with your schooling, then Lansing Community College is for you!

    Tips for prospective students

Come visit the campus! you will be surprised by how large the campus is and how beautiful the landscaping is.with its new Chinese inspired zen garden and pond. don't forget to take a peak at the class rooms as well because there just as nice as the outside. when first starting i would come about an hour before your class during the first 3 weeks because the lines to park are so long! but with in those 3 weeks a lot of changes to classes take place as well as drops so after 3 weeks everyone will be situated with there schedules.

    Bang for the buck

When i started LCC i was a little hesitant about going to a community college while my 5 other friends were going to huge university. but when i got to LCC i could not believe how little i was paying for all of the classes i took at once and how much i was learning. Just looking at LCC`s campus you would think it was as expensive as a university! now only one year later 4 out of my 5 friends are now going to LCC because there $40,000 in debt, can no longer afford a university and didn't really learn anything for the amount they payed. i would Strongly advise going to LCC first before transferring. your getting the SAME educational quality maybe a little better but for thousands of dollars less than at any university. the only thing that is expensive is books but there expensive everywhere! the only reason why i gave this only 3 stars is because lcc is downtown so the parking can be a pain. if you don't want to keep putting money in the parking meters before getting a ticket i would advise all to get a starcard so you can park on the parking ramps.

    Am enjoying being here

I Love LCC. all of the professors are very nice and understanding. the classes are amazing and it seems like the campus is always expanding.

    Am learning a lot

With LCC being the top rated community college in Michigan i can see why. the college is large yet small enough to get an amazing educational. each class i have taken here has had no more than 30 students in each class. with less students i was able to get ALOT more one on one attention when i needed it. most of the professors are really good and make it known that they are here to teach you! so if you need extra help you can actually talk and work with the professors. i would never get that at a large university. recently LCC built a 3D theater which includes holographic images. LCC has state of the art electronics which always help with learning. With more small intimate class rooms, professors who enjoy teaching and state of the art equipment, its hard to think LCC is only a community college because it obviously offers more than a standard community college would.

Great for these types of students

The library is great for all students in any course. LCC's library is gorgeous. The arc is amazing for students who need extra study time. Professors donate their free time to help tutor. There are also SI Sessions, students can be tutored, tested, and quizzed for free!

    Tips for prospective students

Always plan ahead of time the courses and schedule that works best. Never jump ahead and plan a semester alone, always go and seek help from an advisor! For future transfers, always speak to the college advisors that you are planning to transfer to. If your career is undecided, stick to the macro requirements until you decide; they transfer everywhere.

    Bang for the buck

This college offers a great price for the education. There is not a better bargain anywhere else around this state. Especially for those that qualify for the in-district fees. For all those that don't, LCC is still almost half the price of every single university.

    Am enjoying being here

Absolutely love attending school? Sure! At LCC, the atmosphere for students is so comfortable. They offer different places throughout campus to eat, relax, study, read, or just hang out. It's almost just as good as being at home.

    Am learning a lot

The professors here are great. The professor to student ratio is not huge, so help is always there when it is needed. There are many classes to choose from, so picking classes is easy. The curriculum for courses here are strict and well structured.

Great for these types of students

Lansing Community College is a great option for anyone living near Lansing or one of LCC's satellite campuses because it is a commuter college, meaning there is no on campus housing/dorms. LCC is a great place to start taking basic courses if you're undecided about your major, want to save some money before transferring, or are a high school student wanting to dual enroll. LCC also offers many different associate degrees and partners with other colleges and universities around the state to offer different bachelor programs through the University Center.

    Tips for prospective students

    1) Use ratemyprofessors.com to learn more about different teachers before registering for their classes. 2) Some teachers don't ever use the text book so you can save money by buying it on-line or from another student, sharing a text book with another student or checking one out from the library. All textbooks are on reference at the library but sometimes an older edition (which is often virtually the same) will be available for check out. 3) Also, if you're looking for a job, consider applying for a student staff position (they'll work around your class schedule and you'll get a reduced parking rate). 4) You can rent a calculator for free from the Women's Resource Center. 5) You should check out LCC's awesome theatre program if you enjoy acting or going to see shows. 6) There is a Wii in the library. 7) There is more to be discovered...

    Bang for the buck

Awesome price for in-district students!!! Out of district rates are more expensive and international rates are going up by 27%.

    Am enjoying being here

Being at Lansing Community College has totally changed my mind about community college because I have had so many high quality professors who also teach or have taught at MSU and U of M . It is harder to make friends because you often only see people in class (because there are no dorms and people often don't live nearby) but I have met some great people that I still expect to be friends with long after I leave LCC.

    Am learning a lot

I've been at LCC for three semesters doing all of my general education or core classes before transferring to Calvin College. While I have learned a lot in some classes, others are just faster paced and only slightly more in depth than classes I took in high school. Most of my professor have been great but like at every college or university professors can be hit or miss.

Great for these types of students

LCC is great for someone who wants to save money, before they transfer to a university. It is great for someone who needs to brush up on their academics if they slacked off a bit in high school. LCC is great for someone who is unsure of what they want to major in. You can explore different courses for a very cheap price compared to a university. If you are unsure what you want to be, start at LCC, no since in paying more for the same classes.

    Tips for prospective students

Before you register for classes online make a list of the classes and professors that you want. Write down the course numbers so you can put them in the into the computer system fast, that will give you a better chance at getting the class you want, because they fill up fast. Also, go to ratemyprofessor.com to see which professors recieved good reviews and bad reviews. This was very helpful for me. Trust me, you do not want a bad professor, they can mess up your G.P.A. big time! If you know anyone has has previously attended LCC ask them which classes and professors are good to take. This was very helpful for me, because I usually ended up with great professors because of advice. You will be studying at least 2 hours a day. I didn't believe this statement when my high school teachers told me, but it's true! If you want that 4.0 grade your going better get used to tons and tons and tons of reading and note taking. You will get use to it after a while. I would suggest doing school work at LCC, because when I do it at home there are way to many distractions and I don't learn as much. When I do my homework at LCC I have no food to eat, no Facebook, and no T.V., so I am forced to do homework. If you take a writing class bug the heck out of your professor. I probably had my professor look over my paper at least 5 times before I turned it in. They are there to help you take advantage of it, it will improve your grade so much, I ended up with the blue ribbon award because of it. If you have a G.P.A. of 3.5 or higher join the Phi Theta Kappa Honors club. You get to do community service, meet a ton of new people, and it looks great on your resume'. If you have class in the afternoon you are not going to find a close parking spot. I would suggest having class in the morning. You need to get to L.C.C. no later than 7:50 if you want to make an 8:10 class, because there is usually a long line to park. When you get your Star Card (Card you use to park with) make sure you PUT MONEY on it! You pay $20 for the card but that doesn't go on the card. If you don't put money on it, the card machine in the parking ramp will eat it and you have to pay for a new one. Talk to your professors before or after class. This is a great way for you to get to know each other and for the professor to put a face with a name. It can also help you get a letter of recommendation from them which can be very valuable. If you want to work at LCC you have to apply online. Go to the LCC homepage and click on the employment link. It should take you to this website: http://lcc.experience.com/er/security/login.jsp, where you can fill out your profile and apply for various jobs that interest you. If you need to rent a book, print a paper, see a math/science tutor, or check out anatomy models, go to the Academic Resource Center (ARC room #455) on the 4th floor of the Arts and Science building. They are open M-TR from 8:00-9:00, Friday from 8:00-4:00 and Saturday from 9:00-3:00. This is a great place to study or get help from tutors for free! If you are interested in playing basketball I know the open gyms for the boys team is from 2:00-4:00 pm, and for girls from 4:00-6:00 pm. All open gyms are in the Gannon Gym which is on the 3rd floor of the Gannon Building. If you lose something just check with the Department of Public Safety (DPS), they are located on the second floor of the Gannon Building.

    Bang for the buck

LCC is a great way to start out college. You can get the same 60 credits that you can get at a 4-year university for half the price. When you go in for a job interview, the employer will not look at where you received your associates degree if you have a bachelors degree. If you end up getting the job you will have far less loans to pay back, because you saved money by paying LCC tuition rates. LCC also allowed me to work downtown for the State of Michigan while I went to school. This helped me save money for tuition and gave me valuable work experience for my resume'. If I went to a 4-year university right away I would have not been able to have the job and make the money that I did.

    Am enjoying being here

I really do not like being at LCC that much. A majority of the people I see around campus always have a mad look on their face or just look like they want to sleep. Most of the people are not very friendly if you try to strike up a conversation with them. I have a lot of good friends that are international students. I'm not really sure why but they are so much more outgoing and friendly than the American students on campus. Since it is a commuter campus people usually just go to class and then go home. There isn't really any activities for people to get involved in on campus, and if there is they don't advertise it well at all, so people are not aware of it. Overall I would say there is no campus spirit. I really think a lot of people are embarrassed to say they go to LCC because it has the reputation of Last.Chance.College.

    Am learning a lot

I think it all depends on the class you are taking and what level of interest you have in the subject. Some classes like math 107 are very easy because it is mostly stuff the you have learned in high school. I am taking MGMT 231 right now and I am learning so much. This is a subject that I never had in high school and I am very interested in management so it really keeps my attention for the entire class. I have also had professors that just mumble on for 3 hours and that makes it very hard to learn because you zone out so much. When a professor is energetic about the topic I learn so much more, just because it seems like they have a passion for the subject and they make it fun to learn about it. If you take a lot of the lower level classes I really think you aren't going to learn much unless you didn't pay attention in high school. Once you start getting to the higher level classes the professors make you interact with your classmates a lot more and you start learning a lot that way.

    Campus Safety

there is a very visible presence of campus safety officers. the office is easy to find and centrally located. all staff, cadets, and officers are friendly and professional. notifications arrive in my email and on my cell phone very quickly.

    Bang for the buck

basic classes at this college are lots cheaper and every bit as rigorous as what my daughters had at four year colleges. classes at all levels are generally taught by practicing professionals in the fields in which they are teaching.

    Food and Dining

blimpies in gannon is over priced, taco bell in arts & sciences is slow. lots of the food places, including java city, are closed on friday.

    Dorm Life

i am being forced to choose a rating so i put one star because this item does not apply. there are no dorms on this campus.

    Academic Rigor

i have a 4.0 average since coming back after more than 20 years, but believe me--i worked long and hard for all those 4.0 grades! if you put in the effort, you will get the reward.

    Tips for prospective students

use the services available for women, adult learners, minorities, and the academic advising and career services available to all students. don't expect to skate through because this is a community college--this is a college first.

    In three sentences

this is a great school for students just starting out or going back after an extended absence. they have so many advisers and programs to help people get started--all you have to do is ask someone. please do be patient with and don't expect fast action or complete answers from financial aid, though.

    Campus Safety

The LCC police do a great job of patrolling campus, and they are very friendly and easy to talk to. From what I have seen there is much higher security at main campus but there is still police presence at the other campus'. Despite the excellent safety they provide, you are on your own as far as the squirrels, be careful the do bite.

Great for these types of students

LCC is great for adult students who are returning to school, but it is also wonderful for students who want direct help from the professor. It can also be a fantastic stepping stone to help ease the transition from high school to a larger University.

    Bang for the buck

Not only is the tuition much less than a university you are able to receive more one-on-one attention from the professors as well, since the classes are so small.

    What to do for fun

There are endless possibilities for what you can do for fun on campus, but what i have found to be the best is hanging with your friends. Don't be afraid to talk to your classmates. You never know who you'll meet and how much you'll learn from them.

    Food and Dining

The food on main campus is fairly good. if you don't care for the food they have there are plenty of other places close by with fantastic food.

    Dorm Life

Your on your own in this department!

    Academic Rigor

Classes may be tough but if you are persistent and seek help from profs they are pretty much a breeze.

    Tips for prospective students

Check www.ratemyprofessors.com to see reviews of a given professor. You want to have a professor that is the best possible fit for you. Help yourself by asking the professor questions and be willing to seek their help outside of class. Talk to other students early in the semester (two heads are better than one). Manage your time wisely, some professors make it easy for students to procrastinate, complete what you can as early as possible.

    In three sentences

LCC has great teachers who focus on the individual students. I have found that i have done much better here because the professors are more focused on helping you to understand the information.

    Campus Safety

LCC has the best security! Besides having on campus security, they have a degree in criminal justice and have interns patrolling as part of the degree.

    Clubs and Activities

There are numerous clubs and activities at LCC. The best place to find out what is happening is to go to the Gannon building and watch on the internal TV the coming events. Also there is a Marketing club that is second to none.

Great for these types of students

There are great classes for students who have English as a second language. LCC is very committed to seeing that every student has every opportunity to success.

    Bang for the buck

Getting involved with cultural events started with work when I had the opportunity to teach classes on diversity and inclusion. I found it so rewarding that I became a member of the Diversity and Inclusion Council. I have been honored to have been taught by some wonderful instructors at LCC on Diversity in the Workplace.

    What to do for fun

I like to read, spend time with my family, and work in the community with different cultural initiatives. My favorite is coordinating the African American Parade and Heritage Festival for my place of work, who is a sponsor of the event. Since LCC is in the heart of the city, a lot of the parade participants can park at the school during the parade.

    Academic Rigor

There is a consistent theme of excellence in the school and high standards, which I appreciate. My grade point is a 3.85 which I am very proud of because I know how hard it was to maintain it. To maintain a high grade point, you must keep on course and not miss class or get lazy with homework. But, in the end it will be worth it.

    Tips for prospective students

My tips for prospective students would be to start with the right attitude of planning to give it your all, don't give up and don't be afraid to let the instructors know if you are not getting it.

    In three sentences

I enjoy learning at LCC. My only disappointment is that there seems to be more busy work just for the sake of habit then for reason of learning. My best learning has come from classes that are engaged in the classroom and make us think outside the box rather than just working on assignments.

Last year I was sick for mostly all of the Winter Semester. I found that when I was at LCC's campus I would vomit a lot and wouldn't feel sick until I was at campus. I don't know what it is about this school, but it literally made me sick! This year is much better, however. It's a pretty campus when there isn't construction (in the 2 years I've been here, there hasn't been a day without construction).

This semester has been one let down after the other school-wise. After planning my schedule with her, my math teacher decided to randomly drop me, even though I was getting a 90% in the class. Now my financial aid will stop and I will have to pay out of pocket for my remaining 2.5 semesters. Thanks LCC.

i am currently a freshman at lcc and unfortunately the financial aid system does not work for me. i understand it is not entirely the schools position to make certain laws on financial aid, but i am a student who works two part-time jobs, attend college full-time and receives no family contribution. i am struggling to afford to go to a community college and i find something disturbing about that.

I live at my own house. I dont believe LCC has dorms, however there are a lot of apartments nearby. Makes life simple and puts more money in the pocket rather than the gas tank.

    Academic Rigor

As far as academics, they are simple as long as you apply yourself. The help is there if desired so use it. I have a higher G.P.A. now, then I did in High School and if I can do it anyone can. Once you figure out your calling it is no longer school, its a dream and passion.

    Tips for prospective students

Always ask for help, its ok if you dont understand something. The professors at LCC are very nice and will go the extra mile to help in any way they can. Always remember you are not Albert Einstein, and asking for help is a means of dedication to your upcoming profession.

Great for these types of students

Lansing Community College is great for a student who wants to strive for their goals, take a step in the right direction and accomplish their dreams. And of course not end up with a ton of debt when it's all said and done.

    Bang for the buck

As you can probably tell from all of my other posts. Lansing Community College has wonderful savings opportunities and is well priced for the type of education it provides.

    What to do for fun

Lansing Community College has alternative things to do on campus besides studying. There are multiple sports, clubs and shows which a person could be involved in or just be a spectator.

    Food and Dining

Although eating most of your meals on campus would start to get expensive, the food is just too good to pass up. They offer a variety of choices and when you just can't decide they provide microwaves and lounging areas for the meals brought from home. Which makes eating on campus simple and affordable.

    Dorm Life

With Lansing Community College being a community college there isn't much of a dorm life. Unless still living at home and saving money counts. It is one of the aspects of LCC which can be taken negatively or positively. I cannot believe just how much money I have saved from living at home.

    Academic Rigor

Lansing community college provides a lot of academic challenge for their students, but they do it for the benefit of the student. They would never compromise the ability for a student to learn just to have a difficult curriculum. They push their students to strive and accomplish their goals.

Great for these types of students

Lansing Community College is a perfect fit for anyone planning on transferring to a four year University.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

    Bang for the buck

Lansing Community College is $79 a billing hour (classes are usually 1-5 billing hours) and there are TONS of classes that transfer to numerous universities. It is a wise choice to go to LCC because you are going to cut your first two years to college tuition in half, if not more.

    What to do for fun

There are lots of clubs to join here. I am involved with Phi Theta Kappa and the American Institute of Architecture Students. The majority of students who attend LCC solely attend class.

The food tastes like high school cafeteria food. There is also a taco bell on main campus on the second floor of the arts and sciences building in the Kennedy Cafe.

    Dorm Life

There are no dorms at this college.

    Academic Rigor

Most of the classes at LCC are easy if you do your work and GO TO CLASS. Some teachers are harder than others and classes get more complicated at a higher level. The academic rigor varies immensely with who your teacher is and what class you take. Personally I thought CHEM 151 very hard and I almost failed, but I am also not very good at chemistry.

    Tips for prospective students

Lansing Community College is not helpful in any way to students. Make sure you do your OWN research on FAFSA, deadlines, and other things pertaining to attending the college. Also, rateyourprofessor.com is very accurate for the teachers at LCC, so make sure you use it! In some classes, attendance is counted for your grade, so make sure you go to class. Also, the online classes are VERY good.

Lansing Community College is a great college to go if you are transferring to a four year school. Transferring from Lansing Community College saves tons of money on tuition. I would not recommend solely attending Lansing Community College because the quality of education is not always up to par.

    Food and Dining

The food at LCC isn't good, the best things there would be pop tarts and rice crispy treats. There is Gibson's, (which is expensive) rite down the road, and a small street filled with different restaurants. Overall, I would join this school if you were passionate about eating out.

    Dorm Life

    Tips for prospective students

I would recommend this college to any student that is looking to get in and out, or that doesn't think they have enough money or knowledge to attend a four year degree. Also if you have troubles with transportation (I have to bike to and from) they have many online and hybrid classes. If you attend, I don't recommend taking night classes, and taking advantage of the services provided by the police station that's rite on campus.

On campus there is a police station. There are there 24/7 365. They are there on all holidays and whenever the school is closed. If you call 911 from a land line on campus they will come to you wherever you are. If you are taking a late class or on campus studying late and you happened to park some blocks away, you just have to call the number (483-1800) and they will escort you to your car. As well as the bus stop and wait with you at the bus stop. Also if you lock your keys in your car on campus they will retrieve those for you for and dollar as well as give you a jump if you need it. I feel very safe on campus.

    Clubs and Activities

There are over 200 clubs on campus and its very easy to start a new one on campus. You just need two students and a Faculty member. Also some Michigan State groups that allow LCC students to join.

Great for these types of students

Its great for all students the median age at LCC is 29. We have students coming straight out of high school and returning/new adult students. There are services for single parents, veterans, disabled students, international students. LCC is for every kind of student.

    Bang for the buck

One of the cheapest community colleges in the country and number 75 out of the thousands in the country. Has a ton of selective admission programs. When you become an alumni they will still help you look for employment if you would need that. FREE TUTORING! One on one and drop in tutoring. The campus is updated constantly. Always has the latest technology necessary for students. I can go on and on. It definitely worth it.

    What to do for fun

Join a club. Use the game room in the library (Wii and Playstations). There is a park next to LCC for soccer and other outdoor activities. Have lunch in the Japanese Water Garden.

    Food and Dining

Lansing Community College is undergoing major construction right now because of money received from a Federal Grant. The first building they decided to tear apart was the building that had the cafeteria in it. But there is a place that does Wraps and Pizzas still on campus. There is also Gibson's books and Cafe and Gibbys that has tons of foods options right across the street from campus. LCC is also located in downtown Lansing so you can walk a couple blocks and have multiple choices.

    Dorm Life

There is no Dorm Life at LCC. Its a community college and that is very rare for that to be an option. There are cheap apartments all around downtown Lansing and in the Student Life office they have listings of houses and apartments to rent around campus, as well as listings of people that are looking for roommates. Its much safer than Craigslist so I would definitely check that out.

    Academic Rigor

It depends on the class and the teacher you work with. I've had classes that were an easy A but then I became lazy and got a low B. And I've had classes that I've had to work extremely hard for. Its college you have to work. Work hard and communicate with your instructors and you should be able to pass your classes.

    Tips for prospective students

If your a new student prepare for the Assessment Test by looking over the material online. Register for Orientation sooner than later because the sooner you get it out of the way the sooner you can register for your classes. And Get Involved, LCC has over 200 clubs and sports that you can join. Its a great way to beef up your resume, network, and meet other students.

    In three sentences

Great place to go if your undecided about what field you want to go into career wise. I say this because its cheap than most community college and the staff and faculty really want you to succeed. I give this school a 9 out of 10.

I think its a great school to start out at considering the high cost of universities. I would just make sure you meet with counselors at both LCC and the university you want to attend to make sure specific classes will transfer. This way, you won't be spending unnecessary time at LCC.

    What to do for fun

Downtown Lansing has a decent night-life, there are museums, and the campus is about 20 minutes away from East Lansing where there are other restaurants, shopping, and activities available. Downtown Lansing also has various activities throughout the year including Silver Bells in the City and other festivals. It is also near Old Town which has various festivals throughout the year. Plays and other events are sometimes available on campus as well, especially during the summer months.

    Food and Dining

Being in the capital city and in the heart of downtown, there are lots of options for food in a nearby radius. Downtown restaurants may close too early for evening college attendees, but there are a number of available cafeterias on campus and surrounding area restaurants that are within walking distance or a short drive.

    Dorm Life

I live on my own so this doesn't apply to me.

    Academic Rigor

I felt that some of the classes were extremely easy for students and some were quite hard. I suppose it depends on the person and what subject areas you're comfortable with. Every teacher is different but has similar expectations on providing good work. Generally, if you keep up with the readings and maintain regular communication with teachers if you're having difficulties, the work isn't too bad.

    Tips for prospective students

Check out ratemyprofessor.com for decent teachers on the classes you are going to take. 99% of my classes had decent to great teachers based on input from here. When dealing with counselors and setting up educational plans, be sure you ask questions and keep notes. I went in and talked to several different counselors who told me I was on track but later found out after I applied for my diploma that I was missing one credit. No staff could give me any reason as to why it was missed 3 times. I finally found a counselor who knew what she was talking about so not all are bad, just be sure to understand what they are telling you and make sure all the numbers match up and check in regularly with them to make sure nothing has changed!

    In three sentences

Overall, Lansing Community College is a great school. The classes are much cheaper than 4 year universities and the campus is big enough to make you feel like you're attending college but small enough for convenience and a home-like feeling. The facilities are decent, teachers are generally wonderful (I've always used ratemyprofessor.com to help find good ones), but some of the administrative and counseling services could be improved.

    In three sentences

Lansing Community College is definitely a good school to attend to get the basic pre-reqs out of the way before transferring to a 4 year university. The good things are the smaller high school- like class sizes and it's academically great. The bad things would probably be the environment and the different age groups makes the environment uncomfortable.

I am so thankful for the training and the great professors and the learning that I was able to get from LCC.

It's cheaper than a university, and comparable in price to other community colleges at first glance. Then you notice they pull some shady stuff to get the $86/$166/$253 per credit hour (depending on residence) price model. Their facility fee is actually a flat tuition hike of $5, and you are charged for nearly every piece of paperwork. My biggest shock was to learn that it was $166 a credit hour to me, but after I registered I found out they charge you by the BILLING HOUR which they don't list until after you register and agree to pay them. Imagine my shock when I was billed for 28 hours instead of the 19 I signed up for. It's like a dealership selling you a brand new Mustang for $500 and then telling you that there are just a few fees before you get to drive it away.

    Academic Rigor

I'm sure it's decent enough for a community college. Listening to active students in the automotive program, you can tell there are obvious differences in quality between professors when it comes between doing things right, and doing them quick.

    Tips for prospective students

Realise that you are billed by the billing hour not the credit hour, as in most reputable institutions. I signed up for 19 credit hours at $166 a credit hour, only to find, to my horror, that I was billed for 28 hours! So one semester went from $3000, to well over $5000, and of course they only tell you how much you will be billed for after your appointment with the advisor, after being accepted into the college, and after agreeing to pay registration fees. After that shock, I noticed a myriad of other offensive fees, such as the facility fee which simply tacks on another $5 to every billable hour (and they decide how many hours are billable). And the registration fee, and the paperwork fee, and then the lab fees. LCC may be great value for the education, but you will feel like you're dealing with the worst billing department since AT&T.

Good value, but incompetent support staff.

I've never seen or heard of any fights, fires, or other safety problems on the main campus. There are security personel always patroling the area, even at night. I feel safe while I'm there. I've also forgotten my phone on campus twice and each time it was turned over to Police and Public Safety unharmed.

Great for these types of students

This college is ideal for those who are busy (those with a job, children, etc), independent (not many social opportunities), transfering to MSU, and/or looking to complete their associates degree with little to no debt.

    Bang for the buck

I live in the area, so I pay about $3k a year (16 credit hours a semester) for my classes. The majority of the professors are good teachers, and there are a variety of classes to choose from (many of which transfer to MSU).

    What to do for fun

I go to LCC's main campus and there aren't really fun activities at this school, which is ok with me. During the warmer seasons, the theater troupe sometimes performs outside while students are walking from one building to another.

    Food and Dining

I have only been inside the Gannon and A&S buidlings and have never bought anything other than a candy bar. There is a dining area, coffee stand, and a variety of vending machines. There always seem to be people buying food in the Gannon building, so the food couldn't be that bad.

    Dorm Life

    There are no dorms.

    Academic Rigor

I'm taking basic classes, both traditional and online, and I haven't been challenged too much.

    Tips for prospective students

    In three sentences

Overall, I think LCC is a good starter school, especially if you're planning on transfering to MSU afterwards. The tuition is reasonable, the class sizes are smaller (usually under 30 people) and the main campus has a variety of classes to choose from.

    Bang for the buck

Lansing community college is really worth the money. $1,600 a semester is ridiculously cheap compared to a four college. In two years you can have a Associate Arts degree.

    What to do for fun

Lansing is a very small city for being the capital of Michigan. Most bars you have to be 21+ to get into. The city has one major event a year (Silver Bells). The MSU campus right down the street is the most enjoyable part of the city, due to the massive neighborhood parties and D1 games.

    Food and Dining

LCC has two dining halls one for the main campus and one for the east campus. The food is alright and sometimes already made before hand. The cafeteria resembles a high school one.

    Dorm Life

Their are no dorm only local apartments that are around $600-700 a month.

    Academic Rigor

Word of advise use Rate-my-professor when registering for classes. Some professors take their lessons to a whole new level of difficulty. Other than that class room sizes are normally up to 30 people later on in the semester class sizes do decrease. If you need help on a subject professors are always willing to help during their office ours, also tutoring is free.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't think of it as a last chance Last Chance College. You will receive the same education as any other four year university. Plus its dirt cheap and depending on the classes you take they may transfer over to a four year college. There is not a lot of distractions going to a JUCO making it easier to maintain a job and continue your education.

It's great for students who want to learn. Since the classes are smaller than at universities, it's a great opportunity for more one on one time for learning with the teachers. Many tutoring options are built in to the cost of classes for those who need extra help.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

We have a koi pond that's beautiful in the summer. It's a peaceful place to relax in between classes.

    Bang for the buck

While this price of tuition is increasing, like I'm sure it is for other schools, it's still cheaper than going straight to a university. Because they offer the University center, a bachelors degree is still achievable here.

    What to do for fun

LCC offers concerts in the auditorium on occasion and outdoor plays when the weather is nice. The school is more focused on education rather than fun, so besides spending time in the library, I haven't done too many fun things around campus. I know the library hosts events sometimes.

    Food and Dining

Vending machines available throughout the buildings. The current construction is limiting the dining areas, but from what I hear there are plans of better dining options than previously.

    Academic Rigor

It all depends on the level of classes you take. Since I am in a program, my classes are more intense than others.

    Tips for prospective students

It's better to have a clear idea of what you want to get out of the college rather than taking a bunch of random classes. Set a goal and move towards it. The counselors can help you go in the direction you need to go.

    In three sentences

LCC offers many programs for those interested in the medical field. The different campuses allow for a broader range of subjects that can be studied. LCC is trying to continue to update their buildings and resources.

    What to do for fun

They have cocnerts, plays, and basketball games weekly.

    Food and Dining

There are few vending machines and a sub shop on campus.

    Dorm Life

There is no on campus housing, only near by apartments.

    Academic Rigor

Some classes are harder than others and it all depends on the professor.

    Tips for prospective students

Remember to bring your own lunch. You don't always have to buy the book. Parking is expensive.

    In three sentences

Lansing Community College is good for the price. The professors there are mediocre. They do not have a cafeteria, only a high priced sub shop.

    Campus Safety

Main campus there is a fire department right across the street, while on West campus they have one in the building for the fire training course. Also on both of these campuses there is a police station near the front entrance. Not campus police either. The police are always patrolling campus and if you ask, they'll escort you to your car (if its late at night or just nervous about something). Probably as safe as your going to find a college.

Great for these types of students

I say this college is great for everybody. It's very diverse and there seems to be a class for everything. I suppose this college would really appeal to creative students.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Unusual? Hmm, I can't think of any right off the bat. I don't want to imply that the campus is mundane either. It's not uncommon to see people dressed outside the normal, or doing abnormal things, especially considering the theater classes always doing something crazy somewhere.

    Bang for the buck

You don't really get the college life here but you do get a great education. Also my classes have been really affordable (about $100 per credit hour) so if you're on a budget this would be the best, low cost, college of choice.

    What to do for fun

If you find yourself on campus, chances are you won't be looking for something to do. Time on campus is very costly in parking but there are some parks nearby and downtown campus has the Zen Pond. Also the theater classes put on performances of plays, comedy films or live improv performances which are fun to go to.

    Food and Dining

Since there are no dorms, there really isn't a dining hall. However there are cafeterias in the main campus and west campus buildings. The cafeterias offer something to eat, but lack options. The campus favorite is the personal pizzas they sell in the Gannon building.

    Dorm Life

There are no dorms; at least not that I know of. So your dorm life is up to you.

    Academic Rigor

All the teachers I have had really love their job and take teaching seriously. There are of course some teachers to avoid but I have yet to personally meet one.

    Tips for prospective students

Parking is expensive but if you ask around there are a lot of places in Lansing that have free parking. Also don't be shy, everybody is very friendly and polite.

    In three sentences

Great atmosphere full of helpful, friendly students and staff members. The college is very up to date with technology and renovating the buildings. Also everything is very clean and well maintained; I am very proud to be a student here.

    Campus Safety

While Lansing Community College is not located in a particularly nice area of Lansing, this college is always well-equipped with police officers. I was sitting in the library and witnessed a man resisting arrest and within seconds, 9 police officers were at the scene and gathered to control the situation. The other week, there was a mistaken suspicion that a student was carrying a long gun and the security at Lansing Community College quickly organized a lock-down and hid the students away from plain site. Police officers around the campus are very quick to respond to any situation. While these officers are very responsive, Lansing Community College has no secure-entrance system and almost anyone can walk into any of the buildings at Lansing Community College. This opens the campus up to potential danger which is why I give it only 4/5 stars.

    Greek Life

There is no Greek Life at LCC.

    Clubs and Activities

White LCC is a community college, there are still some clubs and activities to participate in. Some of the highlights include our Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and the Yoga Club. Students can gather together to participate in volunteer work and get involved with their community here. There are often blood drives these students can help with . However, many students do not live very close to the campus and do not participate in many of the offered clubs and activities because it can be a great inconvenience.

Great for these types of students

Lansing Community College is great for part time or full time students. Many of the students keep to themselves because of a lack of student housing and events to bring the student body together. Students looking to transfer to more expensive universities should definitely consider LCC as it provides very inexpensive credits for your basic courses. There is a great variety of classes to choose from.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Lansing Community College is located a few blocks away from the Capitol building of Michigan and is a great place to visit! There are not many traditions of Lansing Community College Students as there is not much of a collective student-body here.

    Bang for the buck

If you are an in-district student, the prices here are great for what you will be receiving out of it. However, the prices jump significantly for out-of-district and out-of-state students and sometimes these classes are not worth what you are paying for them. For students commuting, paying for parking can become expensive. Try to find a way to live in the Lansing area beforehand so you get the best price. All together, Lansing Community College provides great transfer credits at low prices.

    What to do for fun

When students would like to have fun near campus without driving anywhere, they can walk down to Washington Square or the Capital for a visit. There are great places to eat in Washington Square but some of the options are more pricey than what college students typically like to pay. There is also a park across the street from the campus that students can visit.

    Food and Dining

Food is not easy to find on campus and it requires that students walk 5 or 6 blocks into Washington Square for the closest food. The only available food on campus is found in the vending machines. The Gannon building is under construction as I review this and there should be a cafeteria available by Fall 2014. The food I had here before construction was reasonably priced and tasted good--the personal pizzas are my favorite.

    Dorm Life

Lansing Community College does not offer housing but apartments are located nearby.

    Academic Rigor

The academics are challenging enough for most students while refraining from reaching the impossible level that many introductory level classes impose to weed out students. The instructors are willing to do whatever they can to aide students in their success in the classroom.

    Tips for prospective students

I would recommend that prospective students take time out of their day to research their future professors and plan their schedules specifically to transfer after receiving an Associate's here. Students should also regularly visit the Student Services room in the Arts and Sciences for additional tutoring resources if needed.

    In three sentences

This is a community college that offers a wide variety of classes for students and serves as a great transitional period for many. The faculty are--for the most part--well experienced and offer great instruction and reasonable office hours. Many of the students come from all different backgrounds and the population contains many adult students as well as younger students.

    Bang for the buck

It is pretty good for the amount you pay.

    What to do for fun

There is not much to do on campus...

    Food and Dining

They just built a new dining place, but there are many different places to eat around Lansing.

    Dorm Life

I live at home, but the apartments around seem nice.

    Academic Rigor

How hard the class is varies.

    Tips for prospective students

If you choose LCC check your professor first before committing to a class.

    In three sentences

It is cheap and a good place to start before choosing a 4-year college. Classes vary grately from being hard to being overly easy.
