Great for these types of students

LSU is meant for any type of student! Any prospective student looking to get the full college experience from their university should chose LSU.

    Tips for prospective students

I would describe LSU simply as the best beginning to the rest of your life. Prospective students can take one look at LSU’s campus and appreciate is beauty and tradition but underneath the ancient oaks and hallowed halls there runs a spirit that has affected thousands of attendees for nearly 150 years. Academic excellence and unrivaled athletic programs encourage students to be proud of their university. The variety of student organizations helps students feel they have a personal place among a diverse student body. All one has to do is attend a football game and realize how 93 thousand fans become a family that together bleeds purple and gold. LSU is a flagship institution that prides itself in accepting only the best from its students, players, faculty and staff. Every prospective student should truly appreciate what an honor it is to be part of this amazing school and know their potential will be fully realized while walking its grounds.

    Bang for the buck

Coming from Louisiana I earned a scholarship through the TOPS program which provides me full tuition coverage. Although it is only for Louisiana High School students, the out of state tuition is comparable to any other state university in the nation.

    Am enjoying being here

LSU is so much more than a football party school. Granted, it does have it's great times outside of the classroom, but beyond that it is a beautiful school with 150 years of excellence to prove its an amazing place to attend school. I cannot imagine myself anywhere else because of the amazing friends I've made through the many club and organizational opportunities I've been presented with along with the wonderful friends I know in my classes.

    Am learning a lot

The Professors and Counselors want you to succeed in life; no matter what major or classification they care about your personal academia. It may be hard to believe in such a large university, but finding your niche is key to making the most of your LSU experience

LSU is probably best for students that don't mind being in a class of 200 or more. You also have to have thick-skin coming to a school of 32,000 people, your teacher probably won't know you exist, and the campus is huge so you must be ready to walk a lot!

    Tips for prospective students

The best advice I could give a prospective LSU student would be, if you are able to attend a bridge program or simply take classes during the summer before your first fall semester, do so. I had the opportunity to attend a summer bridge program which allowed me to attend two classes, have free room and board, and become familiar with the campus before the fall semester began. Not only do you become familiar with the campus and learn to live on your own, you also learn the way things are done at the school, as well as simply meet people.

    Bang for the buck

If you are an out-of-state student like me, be sure that you are aware of all the different scholarships that LSU offers. In fact, I got my out-of-state fees waved because my Mom attended an LSU affiliate school. So be aware that there are ways to attend your dream school!

    Am learning a lot

Because LSU does have rigorous academics, I would advise, if possible, to take dual-credit courses during high school to help prepare you for the teaching styles, and hard classes that you will have to take here at LSU.

Great for these types of students

Students who want to get involved, students who love SEC football, students who want to have a lot of opportunities at a fair cost.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved, you won't regret it. You'll make so many more friends and probably do yourself some networking for the future in the process. Also I would definitely recommend going to class. Nothing breaks your motivation and focus in schoolwork faster than skipping out on classes. Immerse yourself in LSU and let yourself be filled with pride, and you'll be happier than you could ever imagine at LSU.

    Bang for the buck

I came from Georgia, and through scholarships I attend LSU free of tuition. They are definitely trying to improve competitiveness with other universities across the nation, and for the third year in a row they have ranked in USA Today's top tier of public universities. LSU is a public university that offers private school opportunities; from research to service to experience.

    Am enjoying being here

LSU has over 375 student organizations, and there is literally something for everyone. One thing that I would definitely recommend is joining a student organization (or two!) It makes the seemingly large campus very small and gives you a close group of peers to count on. The cajun culture is unique, you won't find friendlier people anywhere else. You can go anywhere around campus on a home football game day and be greeted as friends (as long as you're dressed in purple and gold!) LSU is a thriving community filled with culture and diversity, there is no place like it.

    Am learning a lot

LSU is facing financial uncertainty, but the academic core of classes and offerings is kept in tact. Student to faculty ratio is about 21:1, which is great considering the 28,000 students that attend the school. Courses challenge students to learn, and opportunities to engage in service learning and communication intense courses allow students to develop real life skills while learning core curriculum. There are plenty of opportunities to stand out and educate yourself for success, should you choose to take advantage of them.

Great for these types of students

Its a good school for anybody with any major. LSU has really good Mass Communications and Business majors. If you don't like your major, its not hard to find something you love or something you want to work with in the future. I changed my major from computer engineering to sport administration and its the best decision i've made yet. And as an african-american student, the african-american community here is tight and there's always a chance to meet each other.

    Tips for prospective students

Honestly, be yourself and do what makes you happy. Being here, i found a lot of things that I enjoy doing and found people that like me for who I am. And DO NOT become roommates with someone you are friends with, unless you've known them for a long time or lived with them before. I had to learn about that the hard way with one of my roommates because we are no longer friends. Also, if you don't have a car, make sure you make at least 1 friend with one.

    Bang for the buck

I love the school. Its going through some major budget cuts right now, but the experience is worth it. I know a lot of in-state students who have TOPS. Many out-of-state students just find scholarships and financial aid. When you become an upperclassmen, you'll see that getting a meal plan isn't that important. That's why you make freshman friends.

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy being a student at LSU. There are a lot of different people here, there are different clubs and student organizations that fit every personality, and there's usually something to do or somewhere to go on the weekends. Football season is always entertaining! I have never been tailgating before I came here and I usually enjoy it, although its more fun for big games. Athletic events are fun as well because there so much school spirit!

    Am learning a lot

At LSU, many of the professors are actually interested in you learning. After being in a class as small as 20, to being in a class as big as 300, the professors are always encouraging student involvement with questions and working in groups. They are usually very flexible with office hours and there are plenty of tutorial centers and student tutors willing to help. Some people who are scared to ask for help usually have friends in the same classes that are able to help. They always tell us networking is a must!

    Campus Safety

Very safe campus! LSU police are on patrol 24/7 and I have never had a problem walking around campus at night with a friend. Don't be naive- bad things can happen but if you are alert and aware of your surroundings you will be just fine. Campus Transit is a night bus that will pick you up and take you to any location on campus from about 5pm- 2am every night.

    Greek Life

LSU has an excellent Greek Life. As a member of the Panhellenic community, I cannot speak highly enough about how much sorority life has enriched my time here in college. There are lots of fun social aspects about fraternities and sororities, but there is also much potential for leadership and giving back to the community. Each greek organization has a philanthropy that they work very hard to support with different and fun events around campus and in the community. I might also add that all of the houses are beautiful and I have made some lifetime friends as well!

    Clubs and Activities

LSU has so many different ways to get involved!! There is literally a club for everyone. From academic clubs to athletic organizations, go to the activities fair at the beginning of the semester to find out which clubs you might be interested in. If nothing else you will walk out with lots of free t-shirts and other giveaways!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Go to the LSU Dairy Store! This is one of my favorite spots on campus. LSU makes homemade ice cream on campus daily with Blueberry Cheesecake being a top seller. After you get some ice cream, take a walk to visit the one and only Mike the Tiger in his state of the art tiger cage. There are so many people who don't take the time to appreciate the little things on campus just like this. You are only in college for so long- enjoy every second of it!

    Bang for the buck

LSU is worth every dime! The quality of professors is outstanding and the facilities on campus are state of the art. We just opened a 6 million dollar business complex which is absolutely beautiful. Constant upgrades to campus facilities are being added every year. However, in my opinion, you can't put a price tag on tradition and ongoing excellence.

    What to do for fun

There are plenty of fun things to do in Baton Rouge. Locally, there are some great night spots with Tigerland being the most popular area on Thursday nights and into the weekend. Perkin's row is located 20 minutes from campus with lots of shopping and dining away from the college crowd. There are also a few movie theaters in the area for a date night or to hang out with some friends. The Varsity is a local concert hall with bands playing weekly. I have been there for multiple concerts with my favorite being Eli Young Band. A very fun spot to hang out with friends and enjoy good music! Located only an hour and a half from New Orleans, you can always plan a weekend get away to see a Saint's game and grab some beignet's at Cafe Du Monde as well.

    Food and Dining

LSU has an awesome dining hall set up! The student union has Chick-Fil-A, Panda Express, Salsarita's (a Mexican place), Jamba Juice, McDonald's, Einstein Bro's and a couple convenience and coffee shops as well. The two dining halls on campus (the 459 and the 5) have excellent breakfast, lunch and dinner. Cereal and waffles are always available as well as pizza and sandwiches for lunch and dinner. They change their menu daily to include stir fry, pasta, make your own omelets and sometimes red beans and rice or another speciality. Very good food overall! The restaurant scene around the LSU campus is excellent as well. Walk-On's is a very popular local place with a great atmosphere for Game Day's and to take your family when they visit. The Chimes, Louie's, Chelsea's and Fat Cow are some other local hot spots that are sure to please any taste palate!

    Dorm Life

I loved living in a dorm as a freshman. I lived in the all girls dorm, Miller, and met some of my best friends there. It is a right of passage as a college student. Sure, the living space is smaller than what most people would like, but the Resident Advisors are awesome and the convenience of being on campus is unbeatable (especially on gamedays!) The dorms always have some kind of weekly event planned for you to meet people as well.

    Academic Rigor

I am a Finance major taking honors classes, so my classes are a bit more challenging compared to my roommates education classes. Regardless of your major however, you still need to put in the time and effort in order to the get the grades you want. I study pretty regularly and have been able to maintain a 3.6 GPA my entire college career. Stay on top of your workload and GO TO CLASS and you will have no problems! Also, take advantage of the free tutoring in the LSU library! Help is available for those who want for it!

    Tips for prospective students

Take the time to develop good relationships with your professors. I have had times when I need a letter of recommendation from a past professor of mine. In the case that you have 300 students in a class, it is essential to make lasting impressions with your professors in the chance that you may need their help down the road. Go to athletic functions. There is nothing like going to support your university at a football game, gymnastics meet, or tennis match while you are still an undergraduate. You get in to most athletic functions for free with your student ID so take advantage of it! You meet some really cool people along the way as well! (I met Brady James at a gymnastics meet one time!) Get Involved. Yes college can be overwhelming, but there are plenty of ways to get involved and meet people. I am a Director on our Programming Council for my sorority, Zeta Tau Alpha, and I also participate in many events for Volunteer LSU. My favorite is going to the local elementary school to read to the kids! LSU has an activities fair in our student union at the beginning of each semester for you to see what type of clubs and organizations are out there!

    In three sentences

Here at LSU we love purple and live gold. It is a place full of opportunity and potential where anyone can start and make a new life for themselves. The pride each of the students feel for our beloved university is seen with every award we win, national championship we earn, and our drive for excellence every day.

Great for these types of students

Great for students who love a college town atmosphere with a joy for learning and fun.

    Tips for prospective students

Take a campus tour and talk with an admissions councelor to make sure this is for you.

    Bang for the buck

When comparing LSU's pricing to other schools out there, you can't get anything better. The out-of-state tuition is actually about $5,000-$10,000 less expensive than most other schools. You get a great education for a great price.

    Will enjoy being here

LSU has the most comfortable campus out there. You will feel like you're at home all the time. Everyone is friendly and willing to help. The atmosphere is outstanding; from the sports events to the concerts on campus, there is always something to do.

    Will learn a lot

Although LSU's academic standards seem lower than other schools, that doesn't mean that a straight A, challenge-seeking student won't get a challenge. As long as you choose to challenge yourself, you will have no problem.

Great for these types of students

I would recommend students who want to learn yet want a good social life at the same time. It's also good for students who love sports. If you live in Louisiana, LSU is probably one of your better schools to go to. It's especially great for Architecture students (the program is HIGHLY rigorous), engineering students, and students who want to do research.

    Tips for prospective students

Touring the campus would be a good idea. The campus takes about 15--20 minutes to cross, but don't let that stop you! It's not so big once you get use of it. If you're touring LSU, you should definitely stop by and see Mike the Tiger and the Dairy store. I encourage you to do the best you can and get into the Honors College. You get your own special location on campus with your own classroom building and dorms. Plus you get to schedule early. Game days are hectic, but there are lots of awesome football chants, and when LSU plays, they put on a show. I also encourage prospective students to apply REALLY early for housing since it goes quickly. If you can't get on campus, don't panic. There are lots of apartments near by that are on a free bus route to LSU. It's also important to get involved with a club as soon as possible so you don't feel lost by the number of people on the campus. We have lots of awesome things, including transit, the library where they host a rave once a semester, the union with lots of food, a book store, a parade grounds where they host lots of competitions and events. There's probably something for everyone here.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition has been rising, but it's pretty cheap compared to other flagship schools. Sometimes tuition at LSU is cheaper for out-of-state students than for those students to go in-state. Food and books can get costly and so can dorm rooms and apartments. However, I'd rather pay the money and come to LSU because of the people you meet and the families that you create.

    Am enjoying being here

I love being here. LSU is really big for a Louisiana college, but it has lots or resources, including extracurricular clubs, a gym (REC center), and lots of other cool freebies on their website. I love how LSU is like one big family, but then there are more little families located inside of it. There's something here for everyone, and I'm pretty sure nearly everyone has a special place here.

    Am learning a lot

My case is quite different since I went to a college-like high school. LSU uses some of the same books and publishers my high school did. Regardless, some courses can be challenging, and the tests usually make you analyze and infer information. You'll write a lot of essays here, but the teachers are here to help. Learning occurs both in the classrooms and out of them.

Great for these types of students

Social, outgoing, intelligent students will thrive in this environment.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to apply early so that you can maximize your chances for scholarships as well as to increase your chances of living in the dorm of your choice.

    Bang for the buck

This school isn't too expensive, especially for in-state students receiving TOPS.

    Will enjoy being here

The social environment of this campus is wonderful, theres always a lot of people out on the quad, the school has clubs for everything you could ever imagine, and the large number of students ensures that people will be able to make friends.

    Will learn a lot

This school offers a broad spectrum of majors, and has top of the line professors!

    Campus Safety

Being that we're by downtown Baton Rouge we aren't exactly the best place to be at night. However, LSU has gone to great lengths to ensure student safety and for the most part campus is a great place to hang out with little crime.

    Greek Life

It's huge here on campus. They basically dominate everything and have some many events. We also have NUMEROUS houses to join.

    Clubs and Activities

We have designated day where we have club fairs that take up all of campus. We have more clubs and activities than I can count! There's something for everyone!

Great for these types of students

We have a WIDE variety of students on campus. Probably someone outgoing and friendly would do well at this campus. Don't be afraid to express yourself and let you geek flag fly! Fashion forward students also blend in well.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

We have MANY unusual traditions here at LSU. Our football tailgate parties are something that cannot be described. You have to come to one to understand the magic! Another thing we have is our beloved clock tower. It's at the center of campus and a symbol of our school. Many couples come here for new years or valentine's night for a kiss. They say you'll be together forever. One more fun, but weird, thing we do is voting to have someone from our football team kiss the pig!

    Bang for the buck

Being from Louisiana is was great to find a college so established close to home. It's a gorgeous campus with many opportunities.

    What to do for fun

There's always student activities being offered. One popular thing is to meet up for flag football or frisby after class on the parade grounds. Also being so close to downtown you can go check out the night life.

    Food and Dining

We have two awesome cafeterias on campus as well as numerous popular food chains in the union. No matter what you're craving there will be a place for you to eat!

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is everything here. You will gain friends quickly and learn insider tips to living on campus.

    Academic Rigor

This college has a demanding work load. You will need to organize your time wisely and stay on top of assignments. The actual work isn't all that hard though.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to get involved on campus! Make sure to make friends in each class and introduce yourself to the professor. Always stay on top of assignments and study hard!

    In three sentences

This college is a lot of fun and offers many programs and clubs. They have a great student outreach program and have many events for students. There are many benefits to being at the college.

    Campus Safety

The campus is pretty safe. There's your occasional mugging, but LSU PD gets on things pretty quickly, and the perps are usually caught. LSU also offers Campus Transit. It's a bus that takes LSU students anywhere they need to get on campus from 5:30pm to 3am. That way, students don't have to walk late at night if they're in night classes. LSU PD also brings students places late at night if they're walking.

    Greek Life

Greeks are pretty active on campus. Only 6 of the Divine 9 are currently on LSU's campus.

    Clubs and Activities

There are hundreds of clubs and activities for all walks of life. There's something for everyone.

    What to do for fun

Like LSU Res Life on Facebook for updates on things to do on campus. Splatterbeat is awesome. You take turns banging on drums full of paint. Fall Fest is a great way to mingle and have great food. These are just a few activities that are annual. LSU puts on tons of events every year for students. If you're into clubs, Tigerland is that place to be. It's located on the south side of campus, and it's a great place to party and have fun.

    Food and Dining

The 5, the 459, and the student union are where you can find food on campus. The newly renovated union has Panda Express, Chick Fil A, and much more. It's great. They also take tiger cash (the money on your LSU ID), and sometimes they do meal transfers (using a meal from your meal plan at one of the restaurants). The 459 has Taco Bell and Papa Johns which is pretty awesome, and The 5 is your best bet for just a dining hall.

    Dorm Life

I didn't live in a dorm, they were full. I live off campus in a really great apartment. It's walking distance from campus, and has great amenities.

    Academic Rigor

Schoolwork isn't too difficult. Coming from the top high school in the state, nothing really compares. However, for the average student, a little studying should go a long way.

    Tips for prospective students

Download the LSU app for iPhone or iPad. It has great maps, directories, and sports schedules.

    In three sentences

LSU is huge! Tailgating is a big deal here. There's lots to do here as far as activities go.

Great for these types of students

LSU is great for students who are dedicated and push themselves. Push yourself to go to the 7am class even though nobody takes attendance. do NOT get lazy i'm speaking from experience. if you must have your parent call you every morning to get you up, do it!! make friends, especially with people in your major. join a club or volunteer. just be active.

    Tips for prospective students

do NOT listen to those over-excited orientations! they will sell you a dream and then throw you out there to lions on your first day. get insider tips from upperclassmen they know everything from what's the easy A classes to cheap books and getting around stuff. and girls sorry to say but comfortable will be your dress for the entire semester. i don't recommend heels

    Bang for the buck

hhhhmm hard to say. let me put it like this: it's what you make it you can make these the best four years of your new life or it can be the most dredful thing that ever happen to you.

    Am enjoying being here

I'd be lying if I had 5 stars. It's alright. I love the city scenary, the challenges LSU has to offer, and the opportunities that impact you for a lifetime. However, power walking to get to class... no

    Am learning a lot

LSU has a variety of courses to choose from obviously, but I find myself also looking at the professors more rather than looking at the courses. A subject can be easy as whatever, but if you aren't matched with a professor that fits you it really doesn't matter. I learned LSU students love MacBooks, ratemyprofessor, and socializing. It's my first year and my overall lesson learned: It's not all what you know, but who you know as well.

Great for these types of students

This is school is really great for anyone who likes the heat of the South and the tradition of football games and the infamous tailgating.

    Tips for prospective students

LSU is essentially a party school; there is always something going on. The trick is to stay focus and learn how to manage time. Students have all the tools they needs to succeed so it's up to them to not throw it away to go out.

    Bang for the buck

It's a great education for a great price. They offer many scholarships and forms of financial aid, and the tuition is ridiculously cheap considering the calibre of the education you will receive. And the Financial Aid Office is always available to help you find a way to afford college.

    Am enjoying being here

The atmosphere is very relaxed. The school has a historical feeling due to the old infrastructure, which is great. Greek life is a very important component of the social scene, but everyone finds their place whether it be in a frat or a club. The student population is very diverse, from the stereotypical southern housewife-in-the-making to the atheist that always makes the Dean's List.

    Am learning a lot

LSU offers a great variety of courses. The University has many different programs that are designed to meet students' needs. Sometimes it can be tough with the lack of availability for certain courses due to the fact that the school has a very large student population, but everyone is aware and willing to work towards solving those problems. Faculty and staff are very involved and make all kinds of resources available for students. They have a department for almost anything you can imagine and will help you with anything they can.

    Campus Safety

I have never had any problems with safety on campus. The police are active, there are plenty of transportation options to avoid walking around alone at night, and as you get to know your neighbors, you start to watch out for each other.

    Greek Life

Greek Life is there if you want it at LSU, but if you prefer not to, you won't feel left out. There are plenty of both Greeks and non-Greeks at LSU, and you'll have a good time either way you decide to go.

    Clubs and Activities

There are clubs for everything at LSU. And if there isn't a club for something you are looking for, it's very easy to start one. I myself am an active member of the Ballroom Dance club.

Great for these types of students

Great for all types of students. There's plenty of everything at a campus this large, you just have to go out and find it!

    Bang for the buck

If you are an in-state student, there is no reason not to go to LSU. It is the best deal for your TOPS scholarship. If you are out of state, still look in to LSU. I was able to get enough financial aid that it would have been about the same cost as attending school in state. Definitely worth the money.

    What to do for fun

There are numerous things to do for fun at LSU. There is a club for just about everything, from Ballroom Dancing to Starcraft. Football games are also always a good bet for fun. There are plenty of parties, and plenty of bars and clubs in the area, always packed with students. As long as you don't sit at home, you'll find something fun to do.

    Food and Dining

LSU has an all-you-can-eat style meal plan, so as long as you have meals, you can have whatever you like. The variety is great, and the food is always fresh. There are also plenty of fast food options nearby, with a few that give meal exchanges for your dining hall meals.

    Dorm Life

If you like to party and prefer a more active dorm experience, live on the west side of campus. Expect plenty of noise most days if you do, but also lots of fun. If you prefer a more laid back, academic experience, live on the east side of campus. While still very active socially, there's less of an in-house party culture.

    Academic Rigor

The easiest way to succeed is to go to class. If you go to class, and pay attention instead of checking Facebook or your phone, you will succeed. And you'll learn things too!

    Tips for prospective students

Go and and do stuff. This is the best advice I can give. There are student groups for everything, football games, events at the Union, etc. Just go out and do things and you will meet people and have fun. But don't forget to GO TO CLASS. Everything else is easier if you just go to class.

    In three sentences

LSU is a huge, diverse university with tons of tradition and school pride. From academics, to football, to student groups and Greek life, LSU has something for everyone. You are guaranteed to learn and live well at LSU.

lsu is great for social students who like to meet many new, influential people from all walks of life. while games and celebrations can rule the campus, there are also always spots to chill out and escape the madness, so it's very easy to relieve the stress of classes or of the lively campus.

    Bang for the buck

lsu offers many opportunities for in-state and out-of-state students who are interested, and the resources on campus can make it exceedingly painless to find them. competitive tuition for an expansive campus makes the school a great value. although there have been budget cuts, every section makes a clear effort to maintain the most important aspects of the students' lives here.

    Food and Dining

to live on-campus, food is very simple to get as opposed to other colleges and areas. the student union and nearby buildings offer many fast-food or even student-driven food joints. other easy-to-reach restaurants are near campus, while you can find various foods to the north or south of campus. for others, there are 2 dining halls outside of the union where you can simply use meal plans for all-you can eat meals, which is great in between classes.

If you are an out-of-state student like me, be sure that you are aware of all the different scholarships that LSU offers. In fact, I got my out-of-state fees waved because my Mom attended an LSU affiliate school. So be aware that there are ways to attend your dream school!

The best advice I could give a prospective LSU student would be, if you are able to attend a bridge program or simply take classes during the summer before your first fall semester, do so. I had the opportunity to attend a summer bridge program which allowed me to attend two classes, have free room and board, and become familiar with the campus before the fall semester began. Not only do you become familiar with the campus and learn to live on your own, you also learn the way things are done at the school, as well as simply meet people.

    In three sentences

There is an overwhelming sense of pride and allegiance to the University that unites all LSU students. The phrase, â??I bleed purple and gold,â?? holds more true than anyone could imagine.LSU is all about experiences.

    Greek Life

LSU has a great greek life! I would definitely suggest rushing. Even if you realize greek life isn't for you, you meet so many people and make great connections during rush itself. I am an out of state student, and joining my sorority gave me a home away from home and an easy way to meet new people. I can go to my sorority house to study, eat meals, or just hang out with the other girls. My first year it gave me a break from my dorm and a place I always knew I could go. It also gives you a community of girls who will always look out for you or be there to ask questions. They showed me where all of my classes were the first day of school and the girls in my major really helped me out when it was time to schedule classes or study for tests.

    What to do for fun

There is so much to do for fun! LSU provides many things throughout the year for students like concerts that include free popcorn, cotton candy, and snow cones! Also, at the rec center there are many options like tennis, basketball, swimming, rock climbing, and biking around LSU's beautiful lakes just to name a few. LSU students can also get into all sporting events for free except football, which is totally worth the small price of student tickets. There are also many options close by, for example many concerts are held at The Varsity which is right outside LSU's gates, downtown holds The Shaw Center where there are art exhibits, LSU even has its own exhibit there, there are many parks nearby for outdoor activities, as well as plenty of shopping and restaurants to choose from.

    Food and Dining

The student union was my favorite place to eat. There are so many options, and its a great place to see your friends. There are also two dinning halls which were a nice place to get a good balanced meal. I also loved outtakes, a convenient store that was open until 4am for those late night study sessions. LSU also has a few restaurants scattered around campus, like the underground subway and the atrium cafe, so no matter where you are on campus there is an option for food.

    Dorm Life

I lived in Miller Hall and LOVED it! The RAs are great and its so much fun to live with all girls. Not to mention its very convenient to the rec, the 459 dinning hall, and sorority row.

    Academic Rigor

College was definitely an adjustment from high school, but I never felt like I could not handle the work.

    Tips for prospective students

    1. Because LSU is in Louisiana, you will get all of the culture of the state, which makes everything from football games to class itself a lot more fun. 2. Baton Rouge is a great city to live in. There is always something going on, and it has any amenities you would ever need. Not to mention its only an hour away from New Orleans. 3. If you do choose LSU, definitely live on campus. LSU provides so many things to do right on campus, like concerts on the parade ground, all of the sporting events, and all of the activities offered at the rec. 4. Don't hesitate to get involved immediately! Being involved in the many organizations LSU offers makes the large campus feel more personal. Look into all of the organizations, LSU is sure to have one that will be perfect for you, and if not you have the freedom to start your own! 5. If you're from out of state, do not worry! So many of LSU's students are from out of state, and even out of the US. I am an out of state student, and the transition was so easy. Everyone at LSU is very helpful and make sure you adjust without a problem!

    In three sentences

LSU provides a great college atmosphere on their beautiful campus, and continue to add improvements. They also provide students with the newest technology and anything they would need for academic success. However, the crime around or on campus might give someone a reason to pick a different southern school.

Kissing your significant other under the clock tower at midnight of Valentine's day means you will be together forever.

    What to do for fun

Football games are always a bit event at LSU

    Food and Dining

I think the 5 usually has more variety, but the 459 is less crowded and is usually pretty good. If you have a meal plan, expect to have swipes left over. At the end of the semester, you will be everyone's best friend!

    Dorm Life

Some dorms, like Blake (Agriculture), Kirby Smith, and The Laville (Honors) Dorms are newly renovated.

    Academic Rigor

Al most all of my classes have been honors, and while there are stressful times like midterms and finals, I usually do not feel overworked.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are eligible, join the honors college. It is a bit more work, but you will have smaller class sizes. The honors college allowed me to have a small college feel on a very large campus. The professors are excellent and the classes encourage you to really think. Join a club. A B is not the end of the world. Do not leave things to the last minute, because you will probably have 2 or more things due on the same day (my record is six!) Try to sleep and eat well. I have not managed this yet, but I'm sure some people can! You will do better if you maintain a healthy lifestyle. Get to know your professors. Better yet, work for one of them. They are great for letters of recommendation and make excellent advisers.

    In three sentences

A great academic community with great student life. There is always something to do on campus fit for anyone's taste. My professors have been very approachable, you just have to take initiative.

You can definitely feel safety. LSUPD text and email you every time some time of robbery or anything happen on campus.

    Greek Life

A few of them are suspended at the moment. But for the most part , they are still here and host lots of events.

    Clubs and Activities

There a so many clubs I can't even name them all so it's really easy to get involved. If there is not a club you can start the club.

Great for these types of students

This school is really great for people who would like to meet many different types of people. Learn they cultural and way of life. It's very difference and a huge campus.

    What to do for fun

Since Baton Rouge is a very small town like many college towns you have to get involved. Outside of school there are many different college hangout spots. They have karaoke, the Perkins Rowe Mall, A big bowling Alley, Tiger Land and etc. During football season you will never be bored, that's when the school have the most events.

    Food and Dining

The food is very good when your first get there. But it soon gets old so you will find yourelf spending a lot of extra money on take outs. We do have what you call Stake Nights on thursdays. They are really good as well. The best dining hall is The Five.

    Dorm Life

Living in dorms is definitely an experience. I think you learn about yourself more and how you respond to people. It's an experience that every freshmen should live. It's fun. You are able to meet more people and form more study groups.

    Academic Rigor

It's is very challenging. If your not use to big classrooms this may not be the place for you.

    Tips for prospective students

My tip is to be proactive. Take advantage of all tutoring sessions. Network and meet lots of people. Make sure to get involved.

    In three sentences

I love my school. There are a lot of things there to help you succeed. What I love the most is the school spirit.

Our campus police do a fantastic job of alerting you if anything anywhere close to campus is happening. They do a good job of keeping our campus as safe as possible!

    Greek Life

Greek Life is big at LSU but not overwhelming. It's cool if you're a part of it but not a big deal if you aren't.

    Clubs and Activities

There is a club for every type of person on campus!

Great for these types of students

Any and all students who are looking for an all around great college experience!

Tailgate! Tailgate! Tailgate! We are famous for our Tiger Spirit and the thunder of Death Valley (Tiger Stadium) on Fall Saturday nights!!

    What to do for fun

We are a big Football school. All we do during the fall is live, eat and breathe football. (And study in between games). After football season comes basketball and baseball. We love our Tiger sports. But other than that there are always activities going on around campus. From Art shows and plays to paint parties and Frisbee on the parade grounds, you can always find something to do.

    Food and Dining

We are a University in the South. This means there are always places to find good food. Whether it's in the dinning areas provided by campus (two dinning halls and the student union) or Restaurants that are right off campus, you can always find a place with good food and good company.

    Dorm Life

I've never experienced dorm life but I hear good things.

    Academic Rigor

Some majors are obviously more difficult than others. However, each major presents a course outline that will challenge you to the best of your abilities!

    Tips for prospective students

Don't focus so much on the size of the entire campus. Most of the academic buildings are in a central location. Be prepared to work and study hard but also be willing to party hard during football season! Even though we know how to have a good time, LSU is also well known for its academic achievements. We pride ourselves on the academic excellence achieved in many areas over the lifetime of the University. LIVE PURPLE, LOVE GOLD!

    In three sentences

Louisiana State University is an exceptional school! We pride ourselves on our academics and the diversity of the programs offered. We have an amazing sense of school spirit and we are always ready to support our Tigers!

    Campus Safety

No matter where you are, and that includes being on campus, people need to be aware of their surroundings. It's wise to never walk alone at night on campus. LSU offers campus transit buses that you can call and get picked up anywhere on campus and taken anywhere you need to go. There is always a strong security presence on campus. All the residential halls use card key systems to even get in the front door. So, I believe that it's as safe as they can make it.

    Greek Life

I'm not involved in Greek Life, personally, but I know a lot of people who are. Rush Week is held the week before the fall semester starts, unlike other schools who hold Rush during the fall semester.

    Clubs and Activities

LSU has over 350 student organizations and even more Greek sororities and fraternities to get involved in. LSU even has a real Quidditch team. We're talking about a serious sport with traveling tournaments and everything. Not many schools can say that.

Great for these types of students

LSU is a diverse university experience. No matter who you are, or where you come from, you will be welcomed at LSU. Some people fear the large school atmosphere. But getting involved helps you make this university feel like a small, hometown community. You get the best of both worlds.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

LSU's campus is beautiful. The large oak trees are truly magnificent. The LSU lakes are serene and attract joggers from all over the city. LSU is the only university with a live Tiger on campus, whose habitat is an official tourist attraction! And, then there is Tiger Stadium. We call it Death Valley, where opponents dreams come to die! There is no greater tradition that attending a football game on a Saturday Night in Death Valley. Our game day traditions start by tailgating on campus. Then watching the band, cheerleaders, and football players march down victory hill heading into the stadium. But absolutely nothing compares to 95,000 Tiger fans cheering their team on to victory. Nothing compares to hearing your fight song played by the Tiger Band from Tigerland. It gives me chills just thinking about it. Geaux Tigers!

    Bang for the buck

LSU is one of the most affordable universities available. If you went to high school inside the state, you may also be eligible for TOPS, which is a state funded tuition assistance program.

    What to do for fun

There's always something to do on campus. One day I came out of class and there was a huge jumpy trampoline in the quad. Other days you'd pass a movie being filmed, or Fall Fest in progress, concerts, etc. Nearby, there are 2 big malls and lots of shopping opportunities. Of course, LSU is near New Orleans, so there is always music, food, and lots of things to do.

    Food and Dining

LSU has 2 main dining halls. The one closest to my residential hall was the smaller of the 2 dining facilities. If you timed it right, you could get a wide selection of foods for each meal. But, if you needed to eat outside of those main hours, your food selections were more limited. In addition to the dining halls, there are numerous other eateries on campus. Most meal plans allow you to swap meals at fast food places on campus. But, my favorite was the On The Go eatery. They offered custom salads, meats, and sushi that were quick to grab and go.

    Dorm Life

I lived in a freshmen, residential hall. That means that the students in our dorm not only lived together, but took many general education classes together. Most of those classes were reserved just for our residential hall. So, it was easy to meet new people because you had classes together. It was easy to get a study group together, because you lived in the same place. Even better, many of our instructors held office and tutoring hours downstairs. So it was very convenient. Additionally, we had hall baths, which I loved. I was able to meet so many more people than my friends who had suite baths. So, it really was a great first year experience. Many of the people I met in my residential hall I'm still friends with today.

    Academic Rigor

LSU is a flagship university, so there's a level of prestige that goes along with your diploma. It's one of the best universities in the nation.

    Tips for prospective students

My advise to anyone entering any college is to go experience everything! Get involved, join an organization, put yourself out there so you can meet people and become part of the university's community. You only get 4 years to experience college life, don't waste a minute of it. Try everything!

    In three sentences

When you attend LSU, you get to experience a large school atmosphere, but it really feels like a small, tight-knit community. Because it's a flagship university, LSU attracts the best teachers and offers the best programs. I chose LSU because of the Geaux Teach program; now, I can't believe I considered any other schools.

We have a huge Barnes and nobles on campus ! I love it. Also the ice cream shop with homemade ice cream is excellent !

    What to do for fun

There is a lot to do for fun which can be a big problem at times. It becomes hard to concentrate on your work. You just have to stay focused.

    Food and Dining

The food is ok since where I'm from I'm use to spicy and very flavored foods but in Baton Rouge they don't really have that. But they do serve seafood sometimes.

    Dorm Life

Since I stay in a newer dorm, my dorm is nice. But they have quiet hours which can get pretty aggravating at times.

    Academic Rigor

The classes are very dense and require a lot of studying. Especially math requires 3 hours of lab work.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are considering coming to LSU be sure you are cool with having huge classes and not getting personal help in class.

    In three sentences

I would rate LSU a 6 because it is a very challenging a school. However, they don't have a lot of resources available to students who came from small schools to help them transition. Then on the other hand, the campus is pretty diverse and that is a plus.

Baton Rouge is not the most exciting city, but there is always something to do around campus. You can hang out in the Union, go to the Rec, or go to Tigerland; but more than likely there will be something going on.

    Food and Dining

There are 2 dining halls on campus and both are excellent. We also have a McDonald's, Chick-fil-a, Panda Express, Taco Bell, Quiznos, and much more on and within walking distance of campus.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are actually pretty fun. Some are newly renovated than others so choose wisely. Most freshman dorms are residential colleges which are only open to those of a certain major. I would recommend staying in a residential college to meet others with the same major and take classes with them.

    Academic Rigor

The classes are pretty challenging, but if you study hard you can do well.

    Bang for the buck

I would definitely recommend LSU to any prospective students. It's a great environment to experience college life in.

    What to do for fun

There are always events going on around campus and greek life enhances the college. New Orleans isn't too far away from Baton Rouge (about 1 hour) and has a lot of tourist attractions. In baton rouge, there's pretty much just the movies, dining out, and shopping to do.

    Food and Dining

There's the dining hall, but it gets old pretty quickly. Luckily there are restaurants within walking distance from campus. I LOVE SOUTHERN FOOD. It's crawfish season!

    Dorm Life

You meet a lot of awesome people! Some dorms are a little overdue for construction, but we've began remodling many of our dorms. Renovations are always in progress.

    Academic Rigor

With a school population of over 30,000 students, crime is a given and often unavoidable. LSU does the best they can. There is constantly LSU Police cars scoping campus for illicit activity, and there is an LSU Police hotline that you can call to report crime. Also, if there is a crime in a certain area, LSU Police sends a mass text to all LSU students alerting them to stay away from a certain area, if there was a crime done.

    Greek Life

Greek Life is definitely something to consider at LSU. There are plenty of fraternities and sororities that fit just about any person's needs or personality. You don't need to join a sorority or fraternity to have fun. There are HUNDREDS of other social organizations offered at LSU, but of course Greek Life is a great way to make friends for life.

    Clubs and Activities

As mentioned earlier, the amount of Clubs, Activities, and Organizations at LSU are unbelievable. New clubs are made each day and can be made by anyone. Greek life is a huge component at LSU, but is definitely not pivotal to have a good time. There is always an activity or entertainment occurring such as concerts, comedy shows, or famous people coming to speak. On any given day, there is something to do at LSU.

Great for these types of students

I am convinced that LSU will fit for literally any person and lifestyle. It is a very diverse and cultured community. With over 32,000 people, it is impossible not to be able to fit in with a group. Friends are made on the first day of class, and last forever. The courses and degrees offered at LSU will fit any student's intelligence level.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is NEVER a dull moment at LSU. I've witnessed Quidditch matches, raves, flash mobs during Finals week, parties in the library during Midterms, concerts on the parade grounds, early-release movie showings in the Union, and plenty more events that happen all the time! LSU is home to many interesting and unusual locations on campus, such as the Indian Mounds (two huge grassy hills) and the Greek Amphitheater (old, Greek-looking outdoor theater with seating and a historical background). LSU can't be summed up in a few sentences. The list goes on and on.

    Bang for the buck

Because LSU is a public school, you are certainly going to pay a lot less here than you would at a Private institution. Although, if you are looking to get an off campus apartment, you might be paying a little more than you would on campus, but that's not LSU's fault. Books can get a little pricey, but that's also the same for other schools.

    What to do for fun

Being at LSU, there is ALWAYS something to do. There are more clubs and organizations on LSU campus than you can count. Whether it be the Rowing team, Academic clubs, or the Quidditch team (my personal favorite), LSU offers hundreds of ways to get involved and have fun. Also, there is a HUGE Recreation center that offers tennis, basketball, weight lifting, a swimming pool, rock climbing wall, racquetball, and basically anything you can think of. And last but certainly NOT least, Tigerland is just a short drive away!

    Food and Dining

My dorms were conveniently located directly across the street from the main dining hall. The food was no 4-star restaurant, but I do have to say that they always offered a multitude of options such as a hot lunch, pizza (all day, every day), a stocked salad bar, and cereal. I'm not saying the food was bad; I'm just saying it's cafeteria food. I'll leave it at that.

    Dorm Life

I had an awesome experience in the dorms! I stayed in the newly renovated Blake Hall dorm, which is right in the heart of campus. I was always surrounded by friends so there was never a dull moment. I would definitely suggest living in the dorms at least your Freshman year because all your classes are just a short walk away. Also, you get to know people a lot better than you would if you lived off campus. And of course, you definitely save money on gas!

    Academic Rigor

Being in the Pre Medicine curriculum, the classes that I take are no walk in the park. I feel like I am definitely getting the proper education to obtain my ultimate goal of reaching Medical School. They offer classes on anything and everything so there is always a variety of classes to take.

    Tips for prospective students

My tip to you would be to balance your schedule each semester so that you have one or two hard classes mixed in with easy classes. Another tip I have is to not allow yourself to get behind in a class; you should begin studying a week or more before an exam. Studying a little bit each day is definitely easier than cramming the night before.

    In three sentences

I rate LSU a 9 on a scale of 1-10. I love everything about LSU; the classes, the people, and of course football season. It offers anything and everything in terms of classes and has excellent professors that are more than willing to help you with anything you may need.

    Campus Safety

I always feel safe on campus, there is campus transit for after 5pm-3am and also LSU PD who patrol every night.

    Greek Life

Well established Greek programs offering many opportunities for students involved, about half the population if involved in Greek life so the campus demographic generally gets along.

    Clubs and Activities

There are clubs and activities for just about everything and if there isn't one for an individual's club ideal then LSU makes it fun and (semi) easy to start a student organization by conveniently providing the forms online.

Great for these types of students

Football lovers, Southern-culture loving, cool art scene, etc.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

At midnight on Valentine's day couples meet at the Memorial Tower for a kiss.

    Bang for the buck

    Awesome campus staff.

    What to do for fun

'Groovin' On the Grounds' is a free concert every spring semester, and during fall football games are a must-see.

    Food and Dining

Meal plans are quite pricey and policies seem to be taking money from students via wasted meal swipes that don't roll over to subsequent semesters. Variety and staff are excellent quality though and the two locations are convenient.

    Dorm Life

Must-have for the full freshman year experience. Meeting new friends and establishing yourself on campus is a harder transition without at least a year of dorm life. There isn't one dorm that would be an uncomfortable living space and Resident Assistants/community reminders help to make the first semester of college a smooth transition from high school.

    Academic Rigor

Moderate competition, professors are reasonable and most students are competitive but helpful with each other as well.

    Tips for prospective students

Going to every class is vital to success, learning and growing can happen from any experience, it's all about being open to new things and excited to obtain useful knowledge applicable to what you're interested in. Go to at least one football game!!!

    In three sentences

LSU has an involved student body and moderate academic competition. No other college tailgates to the extreme that LSU does for football games and no other college has as much fun either. Southern comfort is prevalent in the little capitol of Louisiana.

Great for these types of students

There is a great feeling of camaraderie among students on campus. The campus is beautiful and many students spend a lot of time outside. There are many different types of student organizations and a huge Greek system. The athletic facilities and Recreational Facilities are extremely nice and well-kept. LSU is a great place for a very active student who wants to have a very involved and well-rounded college experience.

    Tips for prospective students

Visit the campus! LSU is a school that you actually have to see to understand how great it is. Viewing the school online and in print do nothing to really capture the feeling that you get when you walk onto the campus.

    Bang for the buck

I feel like I am getting an excellent education and paying very reasonable tuition.

    Campus Safety

Overall the campus is very safe. The LSU campus comes very close to the ghetto on the North Side of Campus. Do not go down any streets that are named after presidents or flowers. That is not a good area. Don't walk on State Street at night, as the hobos come out. But all of this is outside of the campus, if you are in the LSU gates, you should be very safe. The cops do a good job here of keeping the creepy hobos away.

    Greek Life

Do it if you can. Greek Life at LSU is a lot of fun, and it is not a joke like it is at Southeastern. You will get a good experience out of it.

    Clubs and Activities

Tigerland is the main strip of clubs for LSU students. I am a fan of Fred's, but you have to be 19 to get in. Reggie's is the freshman's club, do not go to this club with shoes you like because it is a guarantee that you will step in someone else's throw-up. Take advantage of the drunk bus, it takes students to and from Tigerland. BE CAREFUL in the neighborhoods behind Tigerland. they can be a little hood and there have been many muggings and car break-ins down there. If you are a female, find somewhere else to park. Cops are always looking for drunk drivers too, and they will not hesitate to pull you over.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Freshman wear pajamas to the first home game. Tailgate at the parade grounds.

    Bang for the buck

If you are short on cash, go to Fred's between 8 and 10 and they usually have drink specials.

    What to do for fun

Get involved in the activities they have around campus. There are over 400 clubs, and student jobs an also be fun because you are working with other students on an easy job. Greek Life and the Ambassadors are also very involved. The sports here are awesome!

    Food and Dining

There is a ton of places to eat at the union. There is a brand new food court with a ton of places to choose from. There is also The 459 and The Five to eat at, which is for meal plans. the food here is usually pretty awesome, but don't just eat the junk food the freshman 15 is no joke.

    Dorm Life

Dorms are great at LSU, but they do fill up very quickly. A lot of people end up staying off campus, but there are a lot of really awesome places off campus as well. You will definitely meet a lot of people, and the RA's are always pretty cool.

    Academic Rigor

LSU is definitely a challenging school to attend, depending on what major you are studying. The Agricultural College is very good, so that might be a plus if you plan to study pre-vet. The Biological Sciences department is definitely a challenge, but it does a very good job of preparing you for medical, nursing, or graduate school. Be ready t study hard, but you will learn A LOT! Someone who is a business or general studies major might not have as hard of a time than a science major. If you are a Biological Sciences major, be ready for organic chemistry to knock you off of your feet. That is one of the worst classes I have ever taken at LSU. Just be ready to have no life when you take that class.

    Tips for prospective students

Be ready to study hard. It is a huge adjustment coming from high school and not having to study for tests. College tests are very different, it is not all memorization, but concepts as well. A lot of freshman come to campus and get too caught up in the football season activities, and end up doing very badly for their first semester. Otherwise, stay active in the school activities, it will help you to make friends and network. Take advantage of the drunk bus and campus transit if you are out at night and had a few to drink. If your classes are far apart, I suggest getting a bike because it will cut the time you spend getting to class in half. RESEARCH YOUR PROFESSORS!!! That is the one mistake I made my first semester. Ratemyprofessor.com or universitytools.com are great.

    In three sentences

LSU is a great school to go to. There are tons of on campus activities and clubs that you can be involved in. Also, during football season, the tailgating at this school is amazing.

Baton Rouge is a rough area and LSU is in the middle of that. If you don't do things that potentially could harm you, you'll be fine. But there are a bit of surrounding crimes.

    Greek Life

Greek Life is extremely popular here, there are a bunch of them so don't worry about not having any to choose from.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many clubs and organizations at LSU, it is very important to get involved and i recommend it.

Great for these types of students

Great For Everyone! If you love football, great food, and great people it's for you.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The most famous tradition is the yelling of Geaux Tigers whenever you seen anyone representing LSU. Football Season, is the best time and there are so many traditions surrounding it such as the band marching the football players down the hill before the game, Mike The Tiger, yes an actual tiger circling the field before the game starts as well as plenty of chants and cheers during the game.

    What to do for fun

There is plenty of things to do for fun, there is always Tigerland which is great for nightlife, and the mall and movies are less that 10 minutes away.

    Food and Dining

The food is great here, they have a couple dining halls, as well as plenty of fast food restaurants on and off campus.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is great, there are definitely some dorms I wouldn't recommend but all of them are pretty good, close to class locations as well as dining halls.

    Academic Rigor

The academics at LSU are the main focus therefore the standards are set pretty high. However, there are many study areas, great professors that are open for office hours, and always someone there to help.

    Tips for prospective students

You'll meet plenty of people so don't be shy and don't be afraid to jump outside you're shell. The school has many opportunities and you'll love everything about it.

    In three sentences

LSU is a great place to go to school, there's tradition, great food, and everyone is really nice. Everything you need is right there on campus or within a few miles off campus. Football season is the best time of year.

Could be better lit but there are campus police everywhere and you can get Campus Transit to come pick you up anywhere on campus and bring you to your car if you don't want to walk at night/alone.

    Greek Life

I'm not in a sorority but they seem to be pretty active and have a lot of fun. Not my thing though.

    Clubs and Activities

HUNDREDS of clubs to suit any interest! ANY.

Great for these types of students

Focused and self-disciplined with an appetite for fun.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Saturday Nights in Death Valley will change your life! Look forward to football season every fall. Tailgates will give you some of the best memories of college. The Alma Mater also plays on the Memorial Tower bells every day at noon... it's pretty cool!

    Bang for the buck

LSU is an awesome value for what you pay. I'd say definitely the best in-state and pretty high up there nationally (as far as what you get for the money).

    What to do for fun

    Tigerland!

    Food and Dining

Dining halls are good but the new Union restaurants are pretty awesome too.. It's like a mall food court. They are slightly pricier than regular restaurants.

    Dorm Life

They are overpriced and crowded. I stayed in McVoy and it was a phenomenal waste of money. It's a good experience but you could live in a nice off-campus apartment for less.

    Academic Rigor

Your teachers will be very demanding. But, showing up to class is a huge part of it. I could have not passed a single class had I not had good attendance. There's also studying.. just sitting in class will never be enough to get better than a C. There are some easy classes but the core classes will be challenging but not over the top (unless you're engineering or something like that..).

    Tips for prospective students

Wait to buy textbooks until school starts... lots of teachers don't even use them. Don't do a Tuesday/Thursday only schedule unless you have to for work- unless you live on campus, you'll find you hardly spend time on campus aren't as plugged in to school as you need to be. And you absolutely should get season tickets to football games!

    In three sentences

LSU is a great option for those who want the large university experience. There is an endless amount of activities, groups for every interest imaginable and never-ending school spirit. LSU keeps a balanced focus on fun and a challenging academic program.

LSU PD is always patrolling. We also have a ton of call boxes and the campus is fairly well lit. We also have Campus Transit, which picks you up and drops you off for free on campus and operates from like 6PM-3AM.

    Greek Life

Greek Life is definitely big at LSU, but if you aren't involved in it, it's not a big deal at all. I rushed, it wasn't for me, and I still keep in touch with some of the people that I met. It's a great opportunity if that is your thing. If not, there are plenty of other things to get involved in.

    Clubs and Activities

LSU holds a student organization fair every semester to give students the opportunity to see what all Campus Life has to offer. From sport clubs to academic clubs, any student can find something that they are into. They even have a Starcraft club.

Great for these types of students

LSU has such a large student population that any type of student can probably find their niche, from gamers to athletes.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

How many schools can boast to having a live mascot, let alone a tiger? Not many. Mike is always a favorite for LSU fans visiting. As for traditions, there is always an Undie-Run after the fall semester. There's also a rave at Club Mid (Middleton Library) during finals week.

    Bang for the buck

If you are an outside student, LSU is a pretty good deal compared with other large universities. Scholarships definitely help, though. A lot. In-staters have TOPS, which is an amazing deal.

    What to do for fun

Well, for the fall semester, all fun usually revolves around the football season and tailgating. Aside from that, I am not too fond of the nightlife at LSU. If you are into the frat scene, you can always go to Tigerland (Fred's, JL's, Reggies.. etc.) There are also other bars like the Spanish Moon and Splash that are really fun. 80's night anyone?

    Food and Dining

The dining halls have pretty good food too, though they always have their off days; there's always the pizza though.. They also have various chains like Quiznos, Papa Johns, Taco Bell throughout campus. They also just redid the Tiger Lair, which is a great place to go eat! If campus food doesn't work, there are tons of great places to eat nearby. If you like sushi, definitely go to Koi. It's delicious.

    Dorm Life

I loved my dorm! So much that I decided to become an RA and give other freshmen the great experience that I was given. I think that, like most things, what you put into getting the experience is what you get from it. If you stay in your room and not mingle in the lobby, you probably won't have a good dorm experience

    Academic Rigor

If you are in LSU's Honors College, obviously it is more difficult. But another factor is the degree that you are pursuing and what your strengths are in. Mass comm is completely different from Microbiology, so the work load and intensity are clearly going to be different.

    Tips for prospective students

Live on campus for your first year! This is where I met all of my close college friends. And the fact that you can sleep in until 10 minutes right before your class definitely helps!

    In three sentences

LSU has been a great school with many opportunities and lots of resources are made available to every student. The campus is absolutely beautiful, and although there are many students, the school doesn't feel overwhelming and LSU surprisingly has a smaller campus than most universities, making walking to classes very easy. I've had some great professors and some not so good ones, but even if you are struggling with some subjects (like physics :/) there are tons of free tutoring services available, which you can start by asking the Center for Academic Success.

The LSU police are some of the best. They're always around campus, especially at night. Obviously be smart and don't walk around campus at night alone (and preferably avoid it even in small groups). But the crime that occurs on campus is very minor in comparison to what happens off campus in Baton Rouge

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The Enchanted Forest. Enough said. Although you should avoid it at night. Like the plague.

    Bang for the buck

In state YES. Out of state, not a chance. (You can go to a prestigious private school for a little more.)

    What to do for fun

It's in Baton Rouge, so there is plenty to go do.

    Food and Dining

459>5. It's cafeteria food, it's not going to be amazing. They do a good job with what they have. Food selection in the Union is decent as well. The meal plans are often worth the money.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are old, but depending on the community in which you live, it is a great experience.

    Academic Rigor

This all depends on your major. But if you pursue a difficult one, be prepared to learn and work!

    In three sentences

Fantastic Research University! For a huge school, the education is great. They seem to highly discourage attendance from out of state students, as evidenced by their nearly complete cut of out of state scholarships.

    Dorm Life

Just like most colleges the dorms are not the best place. But they are good enough for any college freshman and their thrill to be away from home.

    Academic Rigor

It's a tough school if you are playing around. But for the most part the academics can be done.

    Tips for prospective students

Come in with a positive mindset to pursue greatness. Most people will party alot but you must remain focus on the end goal. Never forget why you came to college.

Football games, basketball games, baseball games. Tigerland (where all the 18+ clubs are) is sketchy but all the freshmen go there. Splash is the gay club (look out for sorority nights though.)

    Food and Dining

The Union fast food places are good, but if you live on campus you have to get a meal plan, which gives you AT LEAST 150 meals in the cafeteria a semester. Pretty much what you would expect: pizzas, Louisiana Favorite, Deli-style, etc. Cereals and waffles, and fresh fruit.

    Dorm Life

RAs go out of their way to make you comfortable. Dormmates are all looking for new friends. Just be open and friendly and you'll have a new family in no time.

    Academic Rigor

It's only hard if you make it hard. The temptation to skip class is great, especially if the teacher doesn't take attendance, but your grade will suffer. Go to class, and you should be fine.

    Tips for prospective students

It doesn't matter if you wake up at 4:30a.m. every day right now, NEVER schedule a class before 9a.m. Go to lots of club meetings, there's always free food.

    What to do for fun

Football games, other sporting events and football games. Enough said.

    Food and Dining

LSU dining for the most part is pretty awesome. I've had gumbo more times in a week than I have in my entire life in Texas. They have a wide variety of food in buffet style so you'll never be hungry.

    Dorm Life

I lived on campus in the Pentagon my freshman year and I can say that it was a little difficult. Pros include proximity to classes and dining, and cons include the tiny space and the 1 bathroom per 8 people. Keep in mind that every dorm building is different.

    Academic Rigor

So far I've had mostly laid back professors who are willing to have one on one meetings to help you with whatever you may need. But do be aware, there are some profs who want to be there as little as you may and are not very merciful with their grading.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't get overwhelmed while trying to find your classes. After the first week you'll be able to know exactly where you need to be and when, and even pick up a cup of coffee without being late to class. Always bring sunscreen to football games :)

The campus sends out text message alerts and is very prompt with them and also keeps students updated. They also have a bus system at night that you can call for safety purposes. It is in a city so the occasional thing happens, but nothing too serious and its all about personal responsibility. Don't walk home from a bar drunk at 2 am, be aware of your surroundings, and if you're going to walk around late, do so with a group. You have to be responsible about your decisions.

    Greek Life

Greek Life at LSU is pretty big. I'm in a sorority and I love it. Being involved in Greek Life has its ups and downs since it is a southern school that can take it a little too seriously some times; however, I am so blessed by my sorority membership here. It has brought me immense opportunities in leadership, volunteer work, and even scholarships. I love our philanthropy, everything my organization stands for, and all of my sisters. Being a part of Greek Life at LSU has helped me stay focused, given me a support system, and helped me grow as a young woman.

    Clubs and Activities

There is so much to choose from at LSU, really anyone can find something. They have a lot of volunteer opportunities which appeals to me and the activities and clubs are easy to find and learn about. They are a great way to get involved on campus and meet fellow students since it is a large school.

Great for these types of students

People who are willing to work hard and study, but want to have fun at the same time. It is also good for those who enjoy sports or want to get involved on campus, because there are so many ways and opportunities to do so. LSU is a big campus with lots of students and diversity, so if you're looking for a diverse and rewarding college experience LSU definitely provides that.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

    Supposedly if you kiss under the clock tower at midnight on Valentine's Day you'll be together forever!(;

    Bang for the buck

Since Im an out of state student, its very expensive and they just raised tuition. Even with my good scholarship I had to take out a loan and do work study and will have to work outside of school. BUT its worth it! Also, when compared to other colleges, tuition isn't that bad.

    What to do for fun

The sporting events are awesome and there is so much spirit. Also there is a lot to do off campus in Baton Rouge. There are plenty of things on campus and right off campus. Downtown and Perkins Rowe are also really cool. Of course there are your typical college bars around LSU, but there is also a concert venue right off campus, restaurants, boutiques, museums, etc.

    Food and Dining

The food at the 5 is better than the 459. They have a lot of restaurants and other dining options on campus, but the food in the cafeterias is mediocre compared to other colleges I've visited.

    Dorm Life

The dorms at LSU aren't spectacular by any means, but they offer a lot of different choices as far as lay outs, bathroom styles, and built in versus moveable furniture.

    Academic Rigor

It is a good school and challenging; I know a lot of people who have underestimated the difficulty and had to transfer. Of course like any college, it is what you make it. You have to challenge yourself inside and outside of the classroom in order to really appreciate your college experience and grow from it.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you get good grades in high school so that you can get scholarships. Knowing that you won't have to pay all of tuition on your own is a huge weight off your shoulders. Get involved! Your college experience is what you make it! When you go for college visits, ask questions, look around on your own, and talk to people. Just going on a tour with a guide isn't going to make you fully aware when it comes to everything a school has to offer.

    In three sentences

LSU is unlike any other school in the country; the school spirit and Southern Louisiana culture are indescribable. LSU is beautiful, diverse, and provides its students with a well-rounded college experience. There is always something to do and countless ways to be involved on campus.

LSU is always packed with things to do on a boring Friday or Saturday night. Students on SAB (Student Activities Board) always have great activities planned for students of all ages to engage in. Saturday nights in Tiger Stadium is a must for ALL students!!

    Food and Dining

The 5 and The 459 dining halls serve meals for every student on campus. These dining halls have a variety of dining options from you to choose from. They have a full salad bar and a variety of pizza selections in each hall. These two dining halls also have gluten free options and they also have a Vegan menu as well.

    Dorm Life

Living on campus is WONDERFUL! You feel closer and more conncected to your classmates when you live on campus your freshman year, even if you stay for one semester. Everything is closer to you on campus and you might be able to have a class or two in your dorm. If you are an engineering or business major, the ERC and BRC (Engineering/Business Residential Colleges) are newly built and are very roomy. All of the dorms on campus are close to a dining hall and the Student Union so you would not have to walk far to get anything that you need.

    Academic Rigor

Some of the classes here are difficult, especially the ones specified for your major, however your professors are very personable and help you with questions about the information that is being discussed in class.

    Tips for prospective students

Be prepared to show a lot of school spirit and have a good time in Tiger Stadium on Saturday nights! LSU is a wonderful school that has multiple opportunities for you. The Center for Freshman Year (UCFY) has counselors that are more than happy to help you with your major selection and to select classes that are fit for you!

    Dorm Life

I loved living in the dorms my freshman year, but I lived in a very new dorm and did not have a roommate so it was an ideal dorm situation. My dorm was also a residential college just for business majors, which I absolutely loved because I had classes with the same people I lived. We would all study together before tests, attend class together, go to the dining halls in groups, and hangout a lot in our dorm so we got really close. I highly suggest living in a residential college if you have the opportunity! I know LSU has a business res college, mass comm, and engineering residential college for sure, but there might be more.

This varies depending on your major and which professors you have. I'm a business major and it isn't easy by any means, however I am able to keep a very busy social life and make good grades without having to study all the time.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are considering going to LSU you should attend an orientation program. I learned quickly how amazing the campus is and it helped greatly in making my college decision. If you're incoming freshman, attend the S.T.R.I.P.E.S. program in the summer! It is a great way to learn about the university and make new friends.

    In three sentences

LSU is an absolutely amazing university for anyone to attend. It is very diverse and large in size, however the culture here makes it feel small and welcoming. I don't know any student who goes here that doesn't love it.

LSU baseball, basketball, track and field, and volleyball are all free to students and are on different week days so there is always something to do. Don't feel like watching sports? Then go to one of the performances or free movies LSU shows for free for students. On a big school campus there is always something to do to keep a student entertained.

    Food and Dining

The dining halls are great and have plenty of variety. You can either go to the 459 Commons or The 5 dining hall. Both have something that the other does not have. If you get tired of university food you can always use Paw Points or Tiger Cash at the Student Union or at the convenient stores in the 459 and 5 dining halls.

    Dorm Life

Some people love them and other cant stand them, but for me I love dorm life. The buildings may be a bit old or a little cramped but its always nice to roll out of bed and class is only a short walk away. Also all the RAs are nice and know a lot of useful info about the school.

    Bang for the buck

LSU is not as expensive as some other colleges I have seen. Everyone complains about the cost as soon as fee bills come out but its something you have to be prepared for. Right now, with the economy down colleges are having to increase tuition to keep up with academic success and keep the campus in good order.

    What to do for fun

There is always stuff to do around campus, its just a matter of finding it. There is always parties going on, and Tiger Land is always busy no matter what day of the week.

    Food and Dining

LSU has two dining halls, which are not that bad. The only downfall is sometimes the food gets old, and you want to eat somewhere different. Which then you can go to the student union which has a huge food court where you can use your paw points.

    Dorm Life

I love living in the dorms. The RAs are very involved with the people living on campus. There is always some sort of competition going on.

    Academic Rigor

Academics are not THAT tough at LSU. However, you must study and be willing to put forth an effort. The professors will help you if you show interest in there classes. The classes are only hard, when you do not do the work needed.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you research everything before committing to a school. Make sure its a place you see your self. Also, look hard into your major dont do it just because you will make a lot of money. If your heart is not in the classes, your grades will reflect that.

LSU has some challenging courses but the teachers are always helpful and there are tons of tutoring opportunities. College is not suppose to be a breeze, LSU finds a good balance of making classes trying but very do-able if you put your mind to it.

    Tips for prospective students

I say come to school with an open mind, do not set expectations for yourself because it could end up hurting you more than helping you. Remember, there are tons of students new, just like you and they are looking for friends too.

    What to do for fun

Football season is impossible not to enjoy in some way. Between the tailgating, actual games, and general atmosphere are very enjoyable. There are also many student activities to get involved in and also many parties every weekend.

    Food and Dining

Decent selection in the buffet style cafeteria. Also a number of good restaurants around the campus. They do cost a good amount of money though.

    Dorm Life

Good facilities. Mattresses and heating for certain buildings could improve though.

    Academic Rigor

While most entry level courses are not particularly taxing, a good amount of work is needed to maintain your minimum 2.0 GPA. They will challenge you but if you put in the effort, the grades will come. The upper level courses are obviously more advanced and thus more difficult. However, the same principle applies.

    Tips for prospective students

Come prepared to work. While most classes, depending on what professor you have, are not extremely difficult they do require a decent amount of work and study to get good grades. However, if you manage your time correctly, you will almost always have leisure time left over.

    In three sentences

Overall, it is a great establishment. The courses and career paths are diverse making it a school you can attend with nearly any interests in mind. People from all over the world come to this place and it's no secret why.

The have to upgrade them to looks more beautiful or appealing to women and less dull. They have to remember women take more time using the bath than men and consider the bathroom like a special and important place.

    Academic Rigor

Excellents programs to your major and from the beginning you star on your major without taking courses that aren't related to your major.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are out-state (latino) especially PR you have to do your own research about everything., because they don't have a person in charge to oriented you like others institutions. You have to call everywhere and search via internet and calling all the time for many day to have a decent answer to your doubts. When you go to the orientation is when you can fulfill your doubts but can be very late because you maybe change the institution for the lack of information.

    What to do for fun

There is never a dull moment around LSU! From the top ranked SEC sporting events that you can attend, to the Greek Life, to the diverse clubs on campus! Not to mention LSU is known to be a campus surrounded by fun bars and nightlife!

    Food and Dining

LSU offers two dining halls that students can utilize by purchasing a meal plan through the university. The dining halls are large and offer a variety of meal choices for everyone, including healthier options. The Student Union is also on campus and is full of take out places that are open on the week days for students who do not have the campus meal plan. Students who become a member of Greek life will also have the option to purchase a meal plan with their fraternity or sorority and can eat there every meal, every day of the week.

    Dorm Life

I personally have never lived in the dorms on LSU campus. However, I have many friends who lived in dorms freshman year, most living in Miller. Through living on campus, they were able to meet vast amounts of diverse people and make a tremendous amount of friends in the process. Residential life also offers community living and study rooms so that students do not feel they have to be confided to their single room LSU has also recently added new dorms to campus which a lot of potential students prefer.

    Academic Rigor

The course load at LSU can be quite demanding, however teachers really want you to succeed and are available for extra help if you feel you need it. Advisors are available to help students decide what classes to take in what order, and to help them decide what professors will be most compatible with their learning.

    Tips for prospective students

For any prospective students, the first piece of advice I can give is to take the time to tour the campus and really research everything LSU has to offer. Become familair with the curriculum, clubs, and socities on campus. Make a appointment with an advisor that can walk through your potential major and its curriculum with you before you make that ultimate decision.

    In three sentences

LSU has had a huge positive impact on my life. Coming from a small town, LSU exposed me to a new diverse environment, yet still provided me with the sense of home i needed. The advisors and professors want students to do good and want to help them reach the ultimate goal of graduation. Peers on campus are friendly, and with so many students, you are bound to find a new group of friends that have a lot in common with you. LSU became more than a school to me, it helped me to grow up and find out who and what I wanted to be in the future.

    Greek Life

Lots of options of fraternities and sororities if someone so chooses to join one.

    Clubs and Activities

Pretty much every major or college has their own club or organization. I'm active in both my college's organization and my major's: Kinesiology Club and Alpha Tau Sigma (Athletic Training Honor Fraternity).

Great for these types of students

Social. Active in community and school.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Either the weekend before or after Veteran's Day, when LSU has a home football game, they celebrate the Ole War Skule. They honor man and women who are veterans of the military and induct them into the Hall of Honor. My grandfather was one of the inductees a few years back, and the ceremony is beautiful. They always do a gun salute on the Parade Grounds after the ceremony. There is a tunnel system underground throughout campus, but students are not allowed in the tunnels because of their age and possible dangers.

    Bang for the buck

Knowing that an LSU degree, especially in my major, goes a long way helped my choice. Being an in-state student, my school is pretty much paid for through TOPS but I know that my degree will go a long way.

    What to do for fun

Football games. Baseball games. Basketball games. Softball games. Hang out on the Parade Grounds. Tigerland. Homecoming festivities.

    Food and Dining

The Union has basically any food option you could think of. For those meal plan holders, the 459 dining hall has a better breakfast selection and the 5 dining hall has better lunch and dinner selections. But if you're a commuter meal plan holder, I highly suggest the Magnolia Room on the 3rd floor of the Union. It is a buffet style lunch room and always has great selections. The seafood gumbo on Fridays is my favorite!

    Dorm Life

Having lived at home my three years so far, I can't say much about the dorms except for what my friends have said. There are some that are amazing due to just having been renovated, but others are somewhat falling apart. The on-campus apartments are the hot spot for athletes to live, but anyone can live in them.

    Academic Rigor

Being in the School of Kinesiology, I get told I take some joke classes by friends in other majors, but I honestly feel like my classes have prepared me greatly for the career that I hope to go into after graduation. In my minor, my history classes have encouraged me to become a better thinker and writer.

    Tips for prospective students

Weigh all of your options for schools. Don't just settle on a major that your parents or friends suggest, make up your own mind. Take a campus tour if you haven't already, especially during football season because campus is always active and beautiful.

    In three sentences

Competitive academic programs, amazing athletic teams, great environment in general. Having been around LSU my whole life, I knew I made the right choice in staying home. Lots of majors and minors to choose from, even if you major and minor have nothing to do with each other like mine!

    What to do for fun

My favorite thing to do is go to athletic events. I'd recommend that every student at LSU should experience a football game from the student section, even if football isn't really your thing. It is a whole new culture to be surrounded by people your age, cheering and screaming, and jammin' to the Tiger Band! The UREC is totally fun too; there is rock climbing, basketball courts, tennis, pretty much anythinig you can think of!

    Food and Dining

Oh, man! The dining halls are amazing. My absolute favorite is their bread pudding! But if you don't get a meal plan, you can always go to the Student Union. There are a variety of fast food places in there to choose from, like Chick-Fil-A, McDonald's, and even Panda Express!

    Dorm Life

I do not live in the dorms, but many of my friends do. I would suggest living in the dorms at least for the first year simply because you will meet so many people. Also, it is way more convient than any commuters'.

    Academic Rigor

I have taken primarily science and math classes, and they were very challenging. This forced the students to actually learn and understand the material, which is unlike how it was in highschool (for me, at least).

    Tips for prospective students

I strongly suggest going to every single class, even if you are super confident about the material. It is always beneficial to review material. Also, know this coming in: it is a huge school! It may be a little overwhelming at first, but don't fret! Lastly, get involved in something. Meeting new people will make the school seem smaller and friendlier.

    In three sentences

It is a very large school with very large general education classes; however, the professors did a fantastic job presenting the material for their courses. Campus life, on the other hand, is always fun! There is always something to do, whether you are into exercising at the UREC or just like hanging out at the Student Union.

    Dorm Life

    Tips for prospective students

I was involved in the art & design college for a while so I always loved to go to different art events around Baton Rouge as well as student work shows. There are a ton of free events around Baton Rouge. I love to go to the Farmer's Market on Saturday mornings in Downtown Baton Rouge. Obviously, football is huge on LSU's campus, so tailgating during football season is something everyone should experience. I also like to check out local restaurants around town and try new foods.

    Food and Dining

I absolutely love the dining halls. I have to say, the dorms and meal plans are outrageously expensive (just like everything else at LSU) but it was a good first year experience. Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day and there is such a great variety in the mornings. Not to mention, you can eat as much as you'd like while you're in there. I think they do a pretty good job in providing some healthier options as well.

    Dorm Life

I had a great dorm experience. I was also fortunate to get into a dorm that was JUST renovated, so everything was new and the rooms were a little larger than other dorms. I got a random roommate and was very fortunate to be paired with someone who was very nice and easy to get along with. I know I would never want to live in Herget or Miller because the rooms are really small, Herget is just a mess and Miller is all girls and I did not want that.

    Academic Rigor

It really depends on the course. Obviously, some courses are going to be more intense than others. It really depends on the instructor and what your strengths are in. I am not great at math so I struggled with those classes. You know how you learn best so you just have to adjust and may have to study more for someone's lack of instruction.

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely stay on top of your work from the very beginning; you do not want to be that person struggling at the end of the semester to make up lost time for a lot of work. Do not hesitate to check out free events going on, in and around campus. Do not buy your textbooks before the class starts. Wait to go to your first class to find out what you really need and get a feel for how the class is going to be. That will save you a lot of money because not all texts are required or useful.

For being such a large school, once you get into the routine of things, you really find your place. Once you learn where everything is, the large campus does not seem like such a big and scary place. There is quite a diverse group of people so you are bound to find your niche.

There's always sporting events. When the weather is nice, it's also fun hanging out with friends on the parade grounds.

    Food and Dining

    Dorm Life

I live in an on campus apartment. I have no complaints. You have more freedom than living in a dorm, but you have the convenience of staying on campus.

    Academic Rigor

Some classes can be pretty challenging. Overall it's not too bad though.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you stay focused on academics. It's a party school so it can be easy to get distracted. It's possible to both maintain good grades and have a life though.

LSU has a wonderful Ag program and does a fantastic job of reaching out to students from all over the state. They have given me so many opportunities over the years, including staying on their beautiful campus for a week. Love purple, live gold!
