As an incoming freshman do not be afraid. College is what you make of it. You can enjoy the college life and still have good grades. As long as you study and do your work you'll be fine. The biggest thing is GO TO CLASS. You'll be on your own so no one will be there to make you and the temptation to miss class is hard but resist it.

My tip to prospective students is that once they are accepted here to join a club of some sort to become apart of the Tech family! I am in the Band of Pride and have a ton of fun with tons of friends. I feel like I belong here!

Make sure you can manage a fast paste system because they are on the quarter system and classes do go by pretty fast.

The biggest tip I can give a student is that studying will become your best friend. I learned this lesson the hard way. I spent my first few weeks of school enjoying my new found freedom and socializing which reflected in my grades. Now I study on a daily basis and my grades are improving. Another good tip is to do your homework the day it is assigned. This way it is fresh on your mind and you will not have to deal with the last minute stress. Another good reason to do this is because a lot of the homework is submitted online but is not due to the last day of class. This could hurt you if you wait until the last week of class to do all the homework for the entire class. Overall, just do your work. Another tip that is not work related is to keep an open mind in college. There are a lot of different cultures, ethnicity, and many other things. Do not judge people because they do not look or act like you.

LaTech is an engineering school, but there are more than just engineers here. Don't be afraid to look at Tech even if engineering isn't your thing.
