Categories Comments Great for these types of students This school is great for anyone wanting to go into a health science profession or is looking to go to medical school. The biology program is very popular here as most pre-med kids choose biology as their major. Just make sure you are fully committed to the work that is required if you choose to go this route. Otherwise you'll end up dropping classes and W's will appear on your transcript.
Tips for prospective students Sign up as early as you can for freshman orientation. This is where you sign up for classes, and many classes and the good teachers fill up fast. A sooner orientation ensures that you get the classes you want and the schedule that fits your lifestyle.
Bang for the buck Some of Loyola's facilities need some work. The dorms are not the best and if you can avoid Campion hall do so! The new information commons library is great however. Loyola is a very expensive school and there is a lot of red tape and bureaucracy with trying to get financial aid. They do not give out academic scholarships after the first year. So if you don't get one coming into the school, don't expect to get money if you post great grades after your first year.
Am enjoying being here Nice kids, and a great overall atmosphere here in Chicago. The competition is fierce among pre-med students since everyone is trying to get the A. The food however is not very great on campus, but off-campus Chicago has some of the best food in the country. Loyola has a very nice fitness center, but the free weight room is somewhat small.
Am learning a lot The science and required pre-med courses here are very rigorous. Expect a heavy workload for chemistry and biology classes, hours of studying a night. However being persistent makes the workload definitely doable and you will do better for the MCAT. Other majors beyond the sciences do not require as much work and those students have more social lives.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students This school is PERFECT for nursing students! Loyola's nursing program is in the 95th percentile for the NCLEX.
Tips for prospective students Apply as soon as you possibly can if you think you might want to go to Loyola, this will help you get the most aid since scholarships are on a first come, first serve basis. Also, if you plan to attempt to get into the nursing program spots fill up quickly, so the sooner you apply the better. But you should keep one thought in mind academically, it is easy to get into Loyola but hard to stay. Loyola will continuously challenge you in order to bring out your best, however it will not be easy!
Bang for the buck I believe that Loyola is worth going to regardless of cost because of the outstanding faculty and program for nursing. However, it is still very costly to attend. Although it will not be easy for me to find a way to pay tuition, I am willing to do everything in my power in order to be able to stay at such a wonderful school. If at all possible, I plan to enroll in Loyola's graduate school for a master's degree in nursing.
Am enjoying being here Loyola University was not originally my first choice for college, however, I have no regrets in choosing to attend. In fact, I believe that choosing Loyola was the best decision I could have made. I did not come here with any friends, however my Resident Assistant made it easy to enjoy activities around Chicago while meeting girls that lived on my floor! Throughout the year I found support and encouragement from both friends and teachers which helped me destress from an academically challenging schedule. It was also very easy to connect one on one with teachers because the classes were so small.
Am learning a lot As a nursing student at Loyola University I was immediately enrolled in classes directly related to my major. The teachers for my nursing classes encouraged me to take initiative in getting involved early within the nursing field. They taught me that nursing is not just taking care of sick patients but taking on the incredible role of helping someone with their spiritual, mental, and physical health. Since I came to Loyola I have become extremely passionate about my chosen career due to the compassion and encouragement of faculty members and fellow students. I am truly excited to take on another year at Loyola.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students There are all kinds of students at Loyola. It's a very welcoming place. Rest assured you will fit in. And there are plenty of clubs/organizations to choose from. There really is something for everyone.
Tips for prospective students AP classes really help in the long, even if they are annoying and the tests sometimes evil. Also, don't be afraid when visiting to ask questions. If you see a student just walking around, 9 times out of 10 he or she would be more than happy to talk to you (this way you're not just getting the perspectives of students who work for admissions-not that they are different from the rest of the student body). Also, take an overnight and attend class-this will help you see what really happens. Oh and apply early as it can make a difference in the financial aid dept.
Bang for the buck It is slightly more expensive than some of the other private schools in IL (Bradley for example) but you have to remember that you are in Chicago and you are paying for that. But I believe it is worth every cent. And they are good about giving scholarships out. If you don't like the package they give you, take a parent in and talk to the Bursars office. They might give you more money.
Am enjoying being here Chicago is a great city-add Loyola and you have a match made in heaven (no pun intended). The school is always having events (block parties, tailgating before Volleyball and Soccer games... and more!) that are usually free to LUC students or at a discounted price (hey, they know we're poor college students). We also get U-Passes which allow unlimited travel on the CTA. The whole City is open to us. There is always something to do, even if it's wandering around downtown Chicago at night with friends, then going to the Cheesecake Factory.
Am learning a lot I have found that LUC not only teaches us, but make us think about situations from different points of view. The Jesuit Tradition is big on having students consider all the reasons behind making a decision and the events that cause certain situations. A good example of this is when I had to read the Odyssey and then argue whether or not Odysseus deserved everything that happened to him. It was interesting and fun. Half the time in class you don't even realize how much you are learning.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Loyola suits the needs of all types of students. If a student is serious about the college experience then Loyola University Chicago is the place for him.
Tips for prospective students I would tell students to take advantage of all that Loyola has to offer. They offer a lot and it is up to us to find these opportunities.
Bang for the buck Overall, college has become unreasonably expensive and LUC is no different. Tuition at Loyola is greater than some other universities, however, you must weigh the education and experience received from this great school against the cost. I believe the benefits outweigh the costs.
Am enjoying being here What better place to spend your year than Chicago. Every morning students will enjoy their own private viewing of Lake Michigan along side of the hustle and bustle of a busy city. Students will receive the arts, culture, along with the college experience in their own oasis.
Am learning a lot Loyola University Chicago prides itself in its ability to prepare people to lead extraordinary lives. I believe LUC does just that. LUC's professors are excellent, in fact, most have doctorates in their fields and are very knowledgeable. What makes these professors truly great is their desire to tranfer their knowledge to their students through their willingness to answer questions in and out of the classroom.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students If you are pursuing pre-med or nursing this is definitely the school for you. However, the Business program is excellent too. It was recently ranked No. 22 on the Global 100 list by the Aspen Institute's Beyond Grey Pinstripes Survey. Another popular major here is Psychology.
Tips for prospective students Do not take a class at 8:30 offered at the Water Tower Campus! One of the classes I would highly recommend is Human Values in Literature with Mr. Fruhauff. Overall, try to have an open mind about courses and balance out your schedule so that it fits your needs. Do not try to do too much in one semester but do try to get involved in extra curriculars. You will not regret it.
Bang for the buck Loyola University is pretty expensive. However, the academic program offered here is definitely worth it. Many of the professors have the highest degree in their field. I recently had a professor say that our school is looking to compete with Northwestern's academic program. The dorms are pretty good except for Mertz Hall, which has community bathrooms. The one thing I do not really enjoy is the cafeteria food. The way out of this problem is to go to the Rambler room or go to any of the many restaurants nearby which sometimes offer student discounts. In addition, Loyola is very generous with financial aid.
Am enjoying being here While I have to say Loyola University is not as diverse as I would like it to be I learned to enjoy being here. First of all, the campus is absolutely beautiful! Another positive thing is that its location allows students to explore and enjoy their newly found freedom to the fullest. Traveling downtown or going to the lake is quite simple. This also helps in case you plan to get a job out of campus. While I sometimes do feel outnumbered due to the fact that there are barely any Hispanics here, school organizations such as LASO help me feel more welcome. I feel like I know most of the Hispanic students here.
Am learning a lot Although Loyola University is known for their magnificent pre-med and nursing programs I have to say that Loyola focuses on giving everyone a challenging but rewarding college experience. I am a college freshmen double majoring in Political Science and Business Management. I have found that there are very few classes if any that you can blow off. Teachers here give you the grade you really deserve as opposed to high school teachers. You might find that getting an A in all your courses may seem impossible but sometimes even getting a B is just as rewarding if not more. Overall, I love the faculty here and the academics.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Loyola offers a rigorous program for those in pre-med, nursing, or in a related health-care field. Yet any student in any major can have a challenging and satisfying college experience because the focus is evenly given to students in all fields. Loyola is a community of passionate learners and professors, therefore you will quickly find a place to belong, no matter your differences.
Tips for prospective students Sign up for the earliest orientation because you will register for classes there. If you are the earliest group, you have first pick on the best classes, professors, and times. Socially, you will be plunged into a community with tons of people you don't know, but be open, be friendly, and maybe some of the people in that group will one day become your closest friends. Also, the professors are there to offer you help, so take it. Get to know your professors and don't be afraid to ask questions or for help when you need it. The professors are very friendly and are always willing to help you. Apply early to Loyola and you might be able to get more financial aid as the scholarships are on a first come-first serve basis.
Bang for the buck Although Loyola is an expensive school, I feel that the quality of the academic program and the passion and expertise of the professors makes it all worth it. Loyola is a well-respected university with an outstanding faculty that provides many opportunities for studying abroad, working internships, or engaging in research.
Am enjoying being here I have met many exceptional professors and made new friends since I started at Loyola. The school host events all the time and it is always a great time to meet other students. Chicago is such a great city to study in and downtown is only a few stops away on the CTA and a shuttle ride away on the school shuttle. The Lake Shore Campus is not situated downtown, so we can enjoy the softer, quieter days by the Lake and then Loyola's other campus, The Water Tower Campus is right on Michigan Avenue downtown. The school shuttle travels back and forth between both campuses and you can pick the campus your classes are taught in based on who you are: the hustle bustle city lover or the modest calm of Lake Shore. Because we live and study in Chicago, we now have the entire city to explore and embrace.
Am learning a lot The college application process is often very stressful, but also very rewarding as it encourages you to begin to discover who you are, through very small steps at first. The rest of the discovery can be unearthed while at college as students live through different situations that requires maturity and independence to resolve and through the core curriculum academically. The core curriculum embraces studies from diverse fields, whether you are studying the effects of humans on the environment or reading and analyzing a classic novel in English, the professors at Loyola are all experienced experts in their fields who are willing to give their knowledge and support to students both inside and outside the classroom. They are always encouraging students to email or visit office hours for questions or help and most professors will answer back within 24 hours, though often much sooner. I find that my professors carry a deep passion for their fields and they teach to infuse that passion and knowledge into their students. Loyola also encourages students to study abroad through the John Felice Rome Center or the Beijing Center, and do internships or research. My semester is filled with diverse and interesting classes that are taught by very experienced, passionate professors who are always available to help. Although Loyola is known for its exceptional pre-med and nursing programs, they do not only focus on those majors, but rather embraces the diversity of every student and work to provide the best experience for everyone. The academics alone is enough to outweigh the high cost of attending Loyola, yet there are even more benefits: you are studying in Chicago, one of the most diverse and historical city, you will be able to see the sun rise and set everyday on Lake Michigan, and you are surrounded by new friends who share the same interests and passions as you.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Nursing and biology is big here, but I love our DFPA family. I highly recommend this school to students interested in the arts, because the faculty is incredibly knowledgeable and helpful in that field.
Tips for prospective students Take lots of CORE classes freshman year, so if you change your major later, your classes will still count!
Bang for the buck College is too expensive; Loyola is no different. However, I got a $10,000 scholarship with my acceptance letter and more came later. I'm not rich by any stretch of the imagination, but I can still afford LUC.
Am enjoying being here I love it. It has a nice, neighborhood feel, but it a mere shuttle ride away from downtown. I've had classes at our Water Tower campus downtown, and I would go for a quick shopping break after class almost every week! The Lake Shore campus is beautiful and RIGHT on the water- which you won't find anywhere else in Chicago.
Am learning a lot LUC has been great for me. I'm a theatre major, and I adore the Department of Fine and Performing Arts. They have personal counselors for you within this department, and they all work hard for you to succeed. Taking CORE classes really rounds out my liberal arts education, while I still get to learn about every aspect of my chosen field. I'm learning so much about myself and the world around me here.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students If you like big cities and urban areas, this school is for you. Be aware of the climate in Chicago though. If you don't like strong winds, frequent rain, and cold winters then stay away. There's a lot Chicago has to offer, but you have to be willing to go out into the city and meet new people. If you come from a small town or a suburb, Loyola will be a completely new experience for you and you can't be afraid of going out and trying new things.
Tips for prospective students Really if you do what the school asks you to when you apply, you should get in. If I remember right the average ACT score is like a 24-25, so you should at least aim for somewhere around there to raise your chances. Also, I think the school accepts more than 70% of those that apply so just do all the necessary steps completely and promptly. But remember, the better your grades, extracirricular involvement, and ACT scores, the more aid you'll get. While in High School, do all you can to maximize your appeal and the cost will be significantly less for you.
Bang for the buck The biggest drawback of Loyola is its cost. Tuition is just over 40,000 per year (without aid and scholarships) and it continues to increase each year. Because Loyola is a private school, tuition is typically higher than those of state universities which receive government funding. However, the more aid you receive and the more scholarships you apply for make the school a lot more appealing. Although I get plenty of aid I still feel the school is a bit expensive, in retrospect I should have applied for more scholarships, but I guess again, part of the high cost the location - being right on the lake raises the cost of everything. Furthermore, the ongoing construction isn't helping to lower tuition either. For the next few years, there will be a lot of construction going on - new buildings and new dorms. They should all be really nice when they're done, but they're also really expensive. Also, I have to say that I'm extremely disappointed that Loyola continues to cut back course offerings for the 200-300 level courses. As a Political Science, International Studies, and History major, finding interesting courses continues to become more challenging each year, as does building a decent schedule. Classes are being cut in order to save the school money, meaning I don't get to take all the classes I would have liked to - for the amount of money I pay, it is frustrating. Also, the meal plans are disappointing. The food choices are repetitive (same stuff all the time) and it is sub-par quality. However, there is Rambler Room (where you order custom food) or stores where you can buy premade stuff, however, the markup on the products is significant and a bit absurd.
Am enjoying being here I've managed to choose professors who have made topics interesting and engaging - so much so that I look forward to going to class and time just flies by. Loyola has some really good teachers that will make learning enjoyable. But, the best part about Loyola is its location. Being in Chicago gives you access to one of the best and most eventful cities in the world. Plus, as an added bonus, the school gives you a U-Pass as part of your tuition, meaning that during the semester you can ride the L anytime to go almost anywhere in the city. Your experience at Loyola will be what you make of it - if you just stay on campus in the dorms it won't be as much fun as it would be if you go out and enjoy what the city has to offer. Also, the school offers a lot of activities/clubs/sports that you can get involved in. The more you get involved, the better your experience will be!
Am learning a lot In the two years I've been at Loyola, I've had classes where I've learned a lot and had fun during the process, but I've also had classes that I've found to be utterly pointless. Really, whether or not you learn a lot depends on the classes at the teachers your choose. My freshman year I took the lower level classes that were required as part of the core or prerequisites - meaning a lot of it was a repeat of what I'd already learned. However, sophomore year, I learned a lot as I was able to choose the higher level classes that I had an interest in. In all, I use rate my professor to find teachers that are good and fun and so I end up learning a lot.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students If you love the city, you will love Loyola. but be warned if you're going to college to party loyola isnt the best pick, although there are parties they usually die down towards the middle of the year, and there is not a very large greek system for those looking to have that large greek life experience. Also everyone smokes, its almost like an art school campus with the amount of smokers around. But everyone is very friendly in the midwest and on campus, and although it seemed like a large school for me when i first went it really isn't almost everyone seems to know each other, whether they hang out all the time or are just acquaintance of.
Tips for prospective students Get involved on campus its a great way to meet people, and at the beggining of every semester the school has an activities fair, where all the clubs and organizations set up booths where you can learn about them and find out when meetings are and how to join. Also when you first get there leave your door open, another great way to meet the people that you'll be sharing a floor with for the whole year.
Bang for the buck Loyola is on no way the school for someone trying not to spend alot. I believe it is about 40,000 a year. It true though that Loyola gives out many scholarships too. But you are paying for a top notch education, loyola is a well respected university with great professors and top honors.
Am enjoying being here I love the environment, because although you have the great city of Chicago at your finger tips, the lake shore campus doesn't seem too much like the city. You get the best of both worlds, the academic college campus and the hustle and bustle of the city.
Am learning a lot The courses here at Loyola are definiantly challenging, but it does ensure you that you are learning a lot. The professors here, for the most part, really do want you to succeed. I love the fact that there are so many areas of study and core curriculum allows for you to taste test a bit of everything.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students students who are willing to work hard, not only care about themselves but care for others, be active not only in school but in diferent places.
Tips for prospective students I really recommend this university because it does have scholarships available and has a very good schedule from morning to night. You do get an UPASS meaning you don't have to pay for the bus and has really good activities for everyone
Bang for the buck Loyola is an expensive school but I think its still worth it. I am trying my best to pay for the tuition even though its expensive, so for future students coming to Loyola, don't give up, if you want to attend, there are different ways to pay for it, we just have to look for it.
Am enjoying being here The advisors are very helpful and very honest. All the students interact with each other and help in many different ways such as hunger week, donations, soup kitchens etc. All the students not only focus in school but also focus in the community.
Academic Rigor I am a junior attending at Loyola and I love it here. I have learned from professors and students how to manage time, how to study, and to believe in myself. I have also learned how to work in groups and what to do in financial aid and loans. There are some great professors here too

Categories Comments Great for these types of students LUC is great for students who are looking for a challenge and looking to go past undergraduate studies into some graduate program. Loyola is great for students looking to go on to medical school but be prepared, the classes aren't easy and the competition is fierce.
Tips for prospective students I would suggest to get the earliest possible orientation date, especially if you are going into the natural sciences/medical field. Don't be afraid to be yourself, there are plenty of people here that probably have similar interests as you. Also, get to know your professors. Many of the professors will recruit Undergrad. students to help them with their research and these experiences will look great on a resume. Study hard and have fun!
Bang for the buck Loyola is definitely one of the more expensive colleges that I looked into when applying for college, but it does come with a lot of amenities. Besides the excellent staff of scholars that teach here (which I think is worth your money alone) Loyola offers state-of-the-art athletic complexes and also holds a pristine location on Lake Michigan. Students are welcome to build muscle and tone the body at Halas Sports Center where Loyola supplies the students with top of the line workout equiptment and swimming pool. There are also yoga classes and various martial art classes that can be taken for free if you are a student here. The location on the lake is especially peaceful and a rare find for such a bustling city like Chicago.
Am enjoying being here Personally, I am very close to my family so not being able to spend time with them is hard. However, all of the students here are exceptional and will help you with anything that you might need. There are more than enough clubs and events to go around and if there is something that you are interested in that is not offered at Loyola, they welcome you to start up your own club. I know from experience that as long as you get a few friends together who share your interest, you can start your very own club! The atmosphere here is very welcoming and I am enjoying my time here on campus.
Am learning a lot All of Loyola's professors are highly qualified for the positions that they hold. Many, if not all, of my professors have received a doctorate in the subject that they are teaching and conduct research outside of class. The classes are challenging, but you come out of them at the end of each semester with a lot of new knowledge. The professors here are always willing to help so that you can have the best experience possible while taking the course that they teach.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Its Nursing program is incredible. It's a difficult program to get into and very difficult to stay in but the students I know that are nursing students have such a passion. All that's needed is determination and hard work. There are also multiple Pre- Med students that's to Loyola's wonderful College of Arts and Science. The courses are also difficult but it helps determine whose willing to go through with it.
Bang for the buck Loyola gives a fare amount of scholarships. The price for coming here is a mass amount but financial need is something that is sincerely considered.
Am learning a lot The classes here tend to be very difficult. There are high standards that every student is held to. Studying should be a main priority if attending Loyola. Loyola focuses on getting every student to take various core classes to expand ones knowledge on multiple levels. There are also four Core Values that help broaden ones horizons on Civic Engagement, Diversity, Spirituality, and Justice.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students If you are going into the medical field, this is the school for you. Students who want to go here need to be hard working and very dedicated. Procrastination here will doom your grades. I've seen a good amount of people being kicked out because they decided to slack off and not take school seriously. This school is definitely a challenge, but if you are ready to be challenged like never before, this is the right school for you.
Tips for prospective students If you are choosing to go into one of the medical majors or science majors at Loyola, be prepared to be challenged in many ways, not just academically. Nursing for me has been a academic, mental, physical, and social challenge, but these challenges are what will shape you into becoming a great worker in your field. The non medical and non science majors at Loyola also work hard, but they still have a social life. If you choose a medical or science major, be prepared to spend Friday and Saturday nights in the library. THE BIGGEST TIP I CAN GIVE AN INCOMING FRESHMAN: EMAIL YOUR PROFESSOR! THEY CAN HELP YOU SO MUCH, AND YOU WILL SEE THE DIFFERENCE IN YOUR GRADES.
Bang for the buck LUC is expensive, but they gave me a lot of financial aid, both merit and need based. Once you are in the school, you need to keep a 3.0 gpa to keep your merit based scholarship. If it is getting to be difficult to pay for school, the office of financial aid is pretty good about helping you look for scholarships. Expensive does not mean impossible.
Am enjoying being here Only about 5 people from my high school are currently at LUC, but they are people that I hardly talked to. It is very easy to meet people here because most of them are friendly and approachable. My best advice is to get to know people in your major. In my experience, being in the nursing program is like having a second family. We all look out for each other and study with one another all the time. I am very happy with my choice of attending LUC.
Am learning a lot I am currently enrolled in the School of Nursing at LUC, and it is one of the hardest programs to get accepted in and remain in. The classes are rigorous, and there will be many days where you will be living in the library studying for your exams. I have learned a lot of the material that has been presented to me, but I have learned even more about myself. This program is a huge challenge, but if you are looking to get into the nursing field, LUC is definitely the best choice.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students will love this school if they can stand high amounts of course work, a family type atmosphere, sporting events that you can still attend but don't have an extreme following, a want to explore the city, and just like any college- students need to have the want to get out there and try new things. Also if you love the cold, Loyola is the place for you.
Tips for prospective students When choosing a school I suggest that you be picky. If you want something and a school doesn't have it keep looking! The only way to be happy is to figure out what fits for you. There are thousands of schools in the country and eventually you will find one. I went on about 14 college visits because nothing fit, but I am proof that once you find something that fits you, you will love it.
Bang for the buck As a freshman I cannot tell you if the high tuition will pay off in the long run. Location does play a major factor in the price and I do believe that quality is there. Some of the dorms and buildings are a bit lower in quality but Loyola is always building. The IC is extremely helpful and when you need answers or help it is not hard to find.
Am enjoying being here Loyola is a smaller campus that still gives you all you need. It is right next to Chicago and is fantastic when it comes to activities to do. Although this is true Loyola does not have the party school reputation so you will not have the party experience of a large public school. Just because this is true doesn't mean that you will not have a ton of fun.
Am learning a lot Loyola University definitely lives up to all the rumors. The classes are very in depth and they teach you all about the subjects you are involved in. Just like any other school, the quality and material can depend on the professor, but as of now I am definitely not disappointed.

Categories Comments Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus the chapel is gorgeous.
Bang for the buck loyola is an expensive school. this depends on your situation.
What to do for fun chicago is a big city and with such a great public transporation system it is all at your fingertips. sporting events, concerts, bars, etc. you name it, chicago has something that can be found within your price range.
Food and Dining i am a vegetarian, and there are plenty of options for me. most are satisfied with what is made available.
Dorm Life dorm life here is above adequate, and it is in a great city. you are bound to have fun.
Academic Rigor the classes are difficult, but because the school is so small, professors are able to provide a great deal of personal guidance and assitance.
Tips for prospective students spend some time on campus before comitting to loyola. there is a certain and unmistakable environment on this campus that may not be suitable for everyone. there is no doubt, however, that the education you receive here will leave you prepared for the next step.
In three sentences loyola has a gorgeous campus,, and is in a quiet, diverse area of a great city. being a relatively expensive, private institution, however, means that the make-up of the university is not nearly as diverse. the small size and great reputation will ensure that you receive an extremely personal and through education.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Loyola is great for preppy, Catholic (especially Jesuit) school kids. But there is a lot of diversity (ethnic and religious) and a place for everyone to find their niche.
Tips for prospective students If you're looking for a school in Chicago, be sure to visit the campuses. Although Loyola and DePaul seem similar, Loyola has much more of a definitive campus while DePaul is more urban. Also, check out the neighborhood right around campus when you visit because that is where you will most likely spend a lot of your time.
Bang for the buck Loyola is very expensive and most of the teachers are OK. There are a few great professors but, for what the school costs... The facilities are nice but limited and it seems like all of our tuition is going toward the never-ending construction on campus.
Am enjoying being here The city of Chicago is great! Almost all of the students say being in Chicago is their favorite part of Loyola and we have both a North-side and downtown campus (right off Michigan Ave!), so its easy to get downtown. There aren't many school sponsored activities and the sports teams aren't a big presence so students tend to spend more time in the city, doing their own thing.
Am learning a lot The pre-med courses are very challenging. However, classes for other majors are not so rigorous. Loyola has a core program where you are required to take a variety of classes from different disciplines (ex. philosophy, theology, science, english...) to graduate. Most of these classes are somewhat challenging but very interesting if you keep an open mind about taking them.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students I fell in love with Loyola. It's great for adventurers of the city, philosophers, any and all religions, and especially to those seeking an education that goes beyond the textbooks.
Tips for prospective students I did not do so hot my first semester and I blame my severe case of senioritis that went away too late. So my advice: yes, college is hard so be afraid, be very afraid. Your fear might give an extra push to study, study, study. It's better to be safe than sorry.
Bang for the buck College tuition is expensive, as anyone might see it, and since Loyola is a private school it does cost extra. Though my finances worry me, I am attending my top college choice which makes me happy. I do think of transferring to a public school at times but I most likely won't receive as much help from them as I do at Loyola and based off of my first semester experience I think the expenses are worth it.
Am enjoying being here I would definitely give Loyola five stars but I can't help and miss my family. Chicago is very diverse and provides with much to do. Loyola is right off a stop on the El Train so it's easy to travel to downtown. The campus is just beautiful, walking besides the lake shore is very relaxing. The lakeside winds can be brutal but the view of Lake Michigan and downtown Chicago makes up for it.
Am learning a lot Loyola has a great philosophy behind it's education system. Besides learning the basics of any material, Loyola stresses becoming a well rounded student; highlighting care for others, yourself, and the community. I'm attempting a crack at the medical field so Loyola definitely constructs a mindset equipped for any career in helping others.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students If you love Chicago and do not mind spending money on weekends to go out, I would highly suggest this school. Also, if you plan on being a business student and want to be able to dress up and go downtown for class every day, Loyola is definitely the place for you.
Tips for prospective students Get involved. This is my number one tip for anyone who is starting at a new school. In order to meet people, you have to force yourself to get out there and try new things. You never know when or where you'll find the people you'll be spending the next four years with.
Bang for the buck I love the city but the cost of this school is ridiculous. As a second-year student here, for instance, they make you pay for a $650 food plan as well as an on-campus apartment that includes a kitchen. If we have to pay extra to have individual kitchens, I don't understand why we need to pay hundreds of dollars extra for their food. The money that goes onto our campus cards doesn't even role-over into the following year. In other words, if the student does not use all of the money on their card one year, Loyola keeps it and the student will have to add more money to their card the following year.
Am enjoying being here The main reason I do not enjoy being at Loyola very much is because this university does not have a very tight-knit community. There is hardly any school spirit here and many of the students do not like to branch out from their current social groups.
Am learning a lot In my opinion, they need much better professors for the beginner-level classes. Over the year and a half I've been here, I've noticed that many of the 100-level professors are not the greatest teachers. In order to get a great professor who really loves what they're doing, I've heard that you have to wait until you get into the 300-level classes. I believe that every class is valuable time to learn though, so I think Loyola should work harder to find better professors for the 100 and 200-level classes.

Categories Comments Campus Safety i feel very safe of campus!
Greek Life for the city, the greek life is pretty comparable to that of a state school.
Clubs and Activities name a club, and we have it!
Great for these types of students everyone!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus there is a beach about a block down from campus. great for relaxing when it is warm and sunny after class!
Bang for the buck while this school is very expensive, and there is no way i would be able to go here without scholarships, it is a very well know school that will get you a good job.
What to do for fun you're in the city, what can't you do?!
Food and Dining compared to other universities i have visited, the food is very good here! they also have a lot of healthy and vegan options available.
Dorm Life everyone is friends, it is very easy to make friends!
Academic Rigor some classes are easier than others, however i found that most of my classes are more difficult and i am constantly studying for them.
Tips for prospective students study, study, study! you will be surprised at how quickly you can get behind in your classes. although it is nothing to be afraid of. a lot of resources are available to help students like the tutoring center.
In three sentences loyola university is a wonderful school to attend. class sizes are fairly small to medium which allows teachers and students to interact. when i graduate from loyola, i know it will be a name that will easily get me a job.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Loyola constantly boasts about its diversity. Even though we are a Jesuit Catholic school, we accept all faiths and beliefs on campus. Everyone on campus is proud to call Loyola home and feels like they belong. As students, we are encouraged to attend all sorts of different multi-faith and multicultural activities.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus If you stand in the center of the semi-circle outside the doors to Madonna Della Strada chapel and talk, you can hear an echo. Loyola beach is steps away from campus.
Bang for the buck Private schools are expensive and Loyola is no different. They do offer a good amount of academic scholarships, which is nice. But if you have any questions or need help with financial aid in general, it's nearly impossible to get past the HUB in order to talk to a financial aid officer.
Food and Dining The food is decent enough to keep us going, but if you go within an hour before closing, don't expect super hot or fresh food. Overall, there isn't that great of a variety, but there are vegetarian and vegan options. The food at the water tower campus definitely beats Simpson and Lake Shore dining.
Dorm Life Loyola is my home. I never want to leave campus to go back home, and when I do I can't wait to get back. The people are warm and friendly, and there are always things to take part in. The RA's make sure that everyone feels welcome and they work hard to create a deep sense of community.
Academic Rigor I'm a part of the honors program, and it is by far the most rigorous part of my week. The expectations set by the professors for our papers and exams are extremely high, but they are achievable with extra effort and hours of studying . The professors make it their priority to help you. They are always willing to see you during office hours and most are willing to set up an appointment if you need extra time.
Tips for prospective students If you aren't sure, come take a tour! There's always something going on on campus and you would be warmly welcomed during your visit. Once you're on campus, definitely make loyola your home away from home.
In three sentences Loyola doesn't lie when they say that it's cooler by the lake. the classes, the professors, the students, and campus life couldn't be better. I wouldn't dream of spending these four years anywhere else.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Rogers Park area isn't the safest place in Chicago but still pretty tame as far as I'm concerned. Campus police always seem to be around.
Greek Life Practically non-existent.
Clubs and Activities There are plenty of pretty decent clubs with great focus around campus especially if you are interested in social work and volunteering.
Great for these types of students Great for students that just like to focus on academics.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus It seems like this university lacks much of campus tradition, or at least any traditions that are memorable. Both of the campuses are pretty nice though.
Bang for the buck Loyola is very expensive to go to and considering the alternatives available around Chicago there might be better places to consider.
What to do for fun Loyola is in the city and not just any city, Chicago. There is plenty of things to do if you just look and happen to have money to spend.
Food and Dining The food in the dining hall gets old very quickly. There is diversity but the quality of food is quite low well unless you like your chicken cooked medium rare. However the staff there is really great and always fun to be around and talk to.
Dorm Life The restrictions here are pretty tough especially in comparison to other non religious universities. Furthermore Loyola is out to make money in anyway they can and that includes fines for the smallest things.
Academic Rigor What is there to say, it's a great university academically so it can get tough but that all depends on the classes and professors you take.
Tips for prospective students Some things to consider when going to Loyola University of Chicago is to consider it's religious affiliation and how that reflects on its campus life. Also use ratemyprofessor.com when choosing classes it can save you a headache and your GPA.
In three sentences Loyola is a Jesuit religious based university and it reflects on their rule policy. Just like other Jesuit universities it is based around urban community development and support. It is a University that prides it's self in academic and social work.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus feels really safe. There is a big police presence on campus, and emergency phones are scattered all over campus and the surrounding area. That being said, safety also depends greatly on your own behavior. Don't walk around in the middle of the night by yourself, down alleys and side streets and be aware of your surroundings (don't be walking home by yourself and blasting your iPod through your headphones).
Greek Life There is a Greek Life on campus but it isn't big or very well known. The fraternities and sororities don't have their own house where everyone lives as far as I know, and they aren't constantly throwing crazy parties if that was what you were looking for.
Bang for the buck Since its a private school it is a little on the expensive side, especially if you compare it to state schools. But that being said it is a very good university, well established and well known to business in the city react: Oh you went/go to Loyola? Thats a really good school
What to do for fun Loyola organizes a lot of events on campus, invites guest speakers and hosts concerts. But if you want to get the full experience, wandering into the city via the Red Line is best. About 15 minutes from campus via the Red Line is Wrigley-ville for all you baseball fans, and not only because it is a pretty busy and popular student destination during the day too.
Food and Dining Dining is pretty good, there are a variety of meal plans to chose from. There is also a pretty diverse selection of food at the cafeterias. Only complaint would be that the meals seem a little too expensive (if you don't have a meal plan). But, if you don't want to eat on campus there are many little fast food joints and restaurants right in the area: Chipotles, Subway, McDonalds etc.
Dorm Life Can't really say, never lived in the dorm only visited friends there. From what I've heard it depends on the dorm you get.
Academic Rigor Courses are challenging and teachers are demanding but they are also reasonable. If you stay on top of your game and keep up with your work you'll be fine. And don't worry it really isn't bad to the point you have no life. Its all very manageable, if you aren't getting carried away with your partying.
Tips for prospective students Come check out an open house, or schedule a tour around campus. Personally I never visited the school before applying but am very satisfied with my choice. The university doesn't require you live on campus your first year, and if I were you I would look for an apartment around campus (its cheaper) but if you're looking for the full experience then the dorms are in pretty good condition. Especially Simpson.
In three sentences Loyola is a really good school with a great location right on the lake front. Classroom sizes are small, teachers are helpful and very knowledgeable, and students are friendly. Chicago is a great city with a lot happening and Loyola has its own El-train station to get you into the city fast!

Categories Comments Campus Safety Considering it's located in Chicago, I always felt very safe on campus. There's a private Loyola Bus to take you to the downtown campus and a service called eight-ride that will drop you off at your apartment or dorm at night.
Clubs and Activities I can't think of what club we don't have, and if we don't have it, it's super easy to make a club.
Bang for the buck It's expensive and I don't think the education I received was worth the price.
What to do for fun We're in Chicago. Fun is everywhere! We got free tickets to see musicals, there are concerts, comedians, museums, and parties. Our RA was always hosting something if you just wanted to hang out in the dorms.
Food and Dining The food was decent. It was nothing to rave about, but it could be far worse. The lack of fruits was the most frustrating part about the dining halls for me.
Dorm Life It's expensive, but I loved my RA and my dorm-mates were friendly. If you're looking for parties, then you'll probably have to look outside the dorms. It makes it easier to study in your room, but it's a bit trickier to find parties.
Academic Rigor The academic rigor was lacking. I worked hard to get good grades, but I never felt I was pushed to my limits. I was a bit disappointed, but I'm only Freshman and it's likely the rigor of my courses will increase.
Tips for prospective students If you want to truly challenge yourself intellectually, apply to be an honors student. Talk to your professor during their office hours. Don't miss out on all Chicago has to offer!
In three sentences Loyola University is full of super nice people and it is so easy to make friends. The professors are wonderful and engaging. The academic rigor is weaker than I anticipated.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Even though Loyola has a small campus there are multiple offices for campus safety. Also, campus safety cars are constantly roaming campus to make sure students at Loyola are safe.
Greek Life As a member of Alpha Delta Pi at Loyola university, I believe greek life to be a great way to meet new people and get involved on campus.
Clubs and Activities There are a variety of activities to get involved in, for students of all faiths and interests.
Great for these types of students Loyola is a great school for students who do not want to get swept away in the crowd. At big schools it is easy to feel lost but at a small school, like Loyola, students are given the attention they deserve to get a quality education.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus An interesting tradition on midnight of Halloween day is the midnight organ blast. At this event loyola students gather in the Madonna della Strada Chapel at midnight to listen to spooky organ music.
Bang for the buck Loyola is constantly holding social events for their students. For example, once every week there is a movie and popcorn night open, free for all Loyola students. Also, ice cream socials are not uncommon on Loyola grounds.
What to do for fun The best part of Loyola is its campus. Since Loyola is located right off the lake students have the privilege to enjoy days out on the beach. Also, the campus is a mere twenty minutes away from downtown Chicago. In downtown Chicago it is possible to spend the day shopping, sight seeing, or soaking up the sun on the beach. Due to the perfect location of Loyola there is never a lack of fun things to do.
Food and Dining Loyola's dining halls provide a wide variety of foods. There is always one station which varies per day, but for the most part students can expect to find a station for cereal, salad, sandwiches, pizza, burgers, and desserts.
Dorm Life Dorms at Loyola are clean and comfortable. More importantly students can expect to feel safe in their dorm room. Each dorm has a sign in desk so that every person that steps in, or out, of the dorm is accounted for.
Academic Rigor Loyola is an academically rigorous school in that it provides classes to help students succeed in graduate school. To help reach the high goals Loyola sets for its students, Loyola provides tutoring centers.
Tips for prospective students When choosing a class schedule it is important to remember that having an excellent teacher is as important as getting into a good class. In order to do this, it is recommended that students read reviews about their teacher on ratemyprofessor.com, before committing to a class.
In three sentences Loyola may be a small school, but it has a lot to offer. Due to the small classes it is easy to make a lasting student-teacher bond. Also, Loyola offers a variety of extracurricular activities that makes it easy to meet new people.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students The kids that are very interested in Pre-Med majors. High competition, have excellent teachers with emphasis on Pre-Med. Not a party school at all- kids are studying all the time trying to keep their grades up. Wouldn't go here if you like the sports-highlighted/big ten types of universities.
Tips for prospective students Take a tour (in winter and spring) Study hard Overnight? Make sure family is financially stable
Bang for the buck Loyola is expensive, but out of the colleges I applied to, they are the ones that gave the most financial aid to me. The only thing is, you need to keep a B average to keep your scholarships. Trust me though, Loyola is worth the money.
Am enjoying being here Great atmosphere. I love being so close to the city, yet being in our own little college atmosphere. The people are amazing, and every time I visit one of my friends at another campus, I am grateful to be going back to Loyola. I miss my friends while I am at home, and thoroughly enjoy being here everyday.
Am learning a lot If you are interested at all in being Pre-Med, Loyola is the right place for you. The classes are tough tough tough (especially Chemistry and Biology), but teachers make themselves available for questions. I am so happy that I took chemistry and biology before college, because knowing even the littlest detail from before can help your grade. Grades ARE NOT at all similar to high school- you have to work extremely hard for your grades, and they are not handed out easily. Expect challenging work, but the end results will pay off once you get accepted to med school (At least that's what I'm hoping).

Categories Comments Great for these types of students It is a great school for dedicated students who enjoy being in the city. Also it is a Jesuit institution so if religion is a big part of your life, Loyola is the place for you!
Tips for prospective students If you want a quiet place to study go to the third floor in the Information Commons building, or reserve a study room. Also, manage your time wisely. Do homework and studying before you do other thing, or you will be up all night trying to get it all done.
Bang for the buck It is a very expensive school, but if you want a nice education it is a price you have to pay. Apply early, that way the chance of winning a scholarship is higher. Also, apply for FAFSA as soon as you can, because all that money runs out as well.
Am enjoying being here Loyola is located in a place where it is easy to get around the city. Gives you a chance to explore Chicago and attend events in which you are interested. The dorm food is not the best, but at least there are places to go to near campus. Meeting new people as a freshman is pretty easy, because of all the floor activities which the RAs organize. The students I came across were all really nice, helpful and friendly.
Am learning a lot Loyola is a great school to attend for people who are sure about what they want to major in. It has an outstanding pre-med program, but the classes are though so be ready to work hard towards your dreams. The faculty members are very helpful and if you need help with anything just ask your teacher, they will meet with you to answer questions you might have.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Pre-med, Pre-law, students who like small-campus feel within a big city.
Tips for prospective students Get to know your teachers; the professors at Loyola are always willing to meet one-on-one with their students to help their education.
Bang for the buck With the somewhat high tuition, you'd think that the food could be better.
Am enjoying being here The food on campus is not necessarily the best. The other students are very nice. The gym is very nice. There are multiple beaches less than a mile from campus, and the view of Lake Michigan from the Information Commons is beautiful.
Am learning a lot LUC is a good school for students who want to receive a well-rounded education. Students are required to take classes in the CORE curriculum that are not related to their major. Some CORE areas include ethics, religion, justice, and civic engagement.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Nursing majors. If you can get into the nursing program, come to Loyola. A direct entry program is absolutely the way to go, and although it will be incredibly hard, it will all be worth it in the end. I would tell all prospective nurses to come to Loyola if possible!
Tips for prospective students Get involved. Loyola has a lot of unique people, and if you are doing things you love you will most definitely find people who are like you. If you are in a science based major, be prepared to work very hard, with a lot of studying. The Jesuit education is extremely underrated, and hard work is something the university really supports, which is shown strongly in the science based majors.
Bang for the buck Loyola's tuition is incredibly high for majors that you can get for much cheaper at other schools. However, I love Loyola so much that it really doesn't bother me that I'm going to such an expensive school.
Am enjoying being here I love being at Loyola. Even though I am in one of the most difficult programs at the school, the atmosphere gives you the feeling of being in the city, but still has the feeling of a campus. Especially in majors such as nursing and education, you will find yourself feeling like a family with the people in your major, which really makes for an enjoyable college experience.
Am learning a lot The nursing program is a rigorous program that will teach you more in four years than you ever thought possible. The amount you are expected to learn can be overwhelming at times, but you become very well prepared for whatever you may face in your clinicals.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students This is a great college option for both those knowing exactly what they want to do for the rest of their life along with those who are still trying to figure that out. All the support, advise, and help you need is here, as long as your willing to reach out for it.
Tips for prospective students The are dozens of majors here to try out and choose from. Some classes can be difficult, but never impossible. The staff here are always willing to help and guide you. Besides academic, Loyola is full of fun and diverse people is a city of endless possibilities. There is always something to do.
Bang for the buck It is a private college so it is more expense than a public college, but is more than worth it. Your education and experience in college here can be a satisfying and personal fit to you as much as you are willing to make it that way.
Am enjoying being here Being here has been a great experience. I am learning so much and getting to learn how to be on my own. The atmosphere here is wonderful and the people here are very friendly.
Am learning a lot For only being my freshman year I am definitely learning a lot. The majority of my course are directed toward my major.

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students The first semester of freshman year is very difficult because we are not use to eating food from dinning halls or going to classes at different times. Although one thing I would say is that explore Loyola, the community and Chicago., but make sure to concentrate and work hard on your studies.
Bang for the buck Loyola is very expensive but it is very easy to get a job around the area or on campus because our school offers a website that shows you prospective employees. Also, if you get involved in programs that offer scholarships that can be very helpful.
Am enjoying being here At first I absolutely hated the school because there was not a football team and it was not a typical college where there are parties all the time. But, if you are the kind of person who is not into that kind of stuff this school is meant for you. It is academic based and there are not distractions at this school. For those who enjoy to be out and about Loyola is only 20 minutes away by CTA from Chicago and there is so much to do.
Am learning a lot There are a variety of classes that you can register for; it is just the matter of getting into the ones that you like. Once you get your classes there is where your desire to learn comes. I personally am learning a lot because Loyola makes the students explore all sorts of classes like theology, philosophy, and sociology. Many classes are difficult but you become a academically smarter because you are challenging yourself.

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students Apply early as you are more likely to get more scholarship money. Get the highest ACT score possible to get more money. Lastly, apply for other scholarships within LUC. Even if you don't get it, you are more likely to get a different scholarship because of your interest in the school.
Bang for the buck Yes it has a high dollar sign but FAFSA helps out alot and also Loyola offers many scholarships right when you apply.
Am enjoying being here The atmosphere is great, the location couldn't be any better. The city of Chicago acts as our backyard and students take great advantage of that.
Am learning a lot Some classes offer so much to learn, it's sad that those classes only last a semester.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Great for students interested in a diverse campus in a beautiful city. There are more pre-med kids here than anything else, so, if you're interested in medical school, this is also an excellent pick.
Tips for prospective students Apply early! Come to visit, preferably in the earlier fall or later spring, when the weather's nice. When it comes to applying for classes and such, definitely utilize ratemyprofessors.com. A good teacher makes all the difference.
Bang for the buck It's a little pricey, but it's worth it overall. Campus housing is expensive. That's the only thing I'd really complain about, price-wise.
Am enjoying being here I love this school. I live on the Lake Shore Campus, which is absolutely gorgeous, and the downtown campus is beautiful as well. The students are interesting and diverse, the faculty is helpful, and there are a lot of different classes available. Definitely love it here.
Am learning a lot I'm an International Studies major and Honors student at Loyola. Overall, I've had really good experience with classes so far. Bang for the buck It is very expensive like that of Northwestern and the University of Chicago. It is a private school which elevates the cost, but I feel they do charge a little more than than they should in certain areas but a lot of the schools do
Am enjoying being here Loyola has a good atmosphere in general, although I feel they could provide more opportunities for students to meet other students especially for those who commute.
Am learning a lot I feel they provide a good education and you can learn a lot, but you do have to apply yourself. It is not an easy school, and you have to try.

Clubs and Activities there are so many clubs and activities - something for everyone. i love being in the green learning community and my involvement in growers guild and other clubs.
Great for these types of students loyola university is great for students who appreciate the jesuit traditions but you do not have to be catholic; everyone is welcome. loyola students are intelligent and take school/learning/grades seriously; it is not a party school but that does not mean we don't know how to have fun. there are great service opportunities on campus and within the community.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus the location of the lake shore campus on lake michigan is wonderful (my dorm room has a view of the lake!) and the el and bus system allow students access to all that chicago has to offer. there is a great mix of ethnic restaurants and a multi-screen movie theater nearby which is much cheaper than most theaters and it has first-run films!
Bang for the buck loyola is expensive but costs compare to other private jesuit schools and generous scholarships are available.
What to do for fun there are so many fun activities on campus and with access to all that chicago has to offer - there is always something fun to do. sports, volunteer opportunities, organized outings, endless shopping and cultural activities (with great student discounts!) - there is never a dull moment! Categories Comments Campus Safety for the location, campus is pretty safe. the whole university and a 6-block radius are patrolled by security and police forces. shuttle services can be used to transport students around the area from 6pm-2am. students are also kept informed by emails, text messages, and an updated security report every week in the campus newspaper
Greek Life roughly 15% of undergrads are involved in greek life. loyola has 4 fraternities and 5 sororities.
Clubs and Activities over 200 student clubs and organizations to choose from. students also have the opportunity to start their own clubs and organizations with the help of the student government organization.
Great for these types of students students who are strongly motivated, positive thinkers, goal-oriented, have a strong set of ethics and moral fiber, and enjoy community involvement are an excellent fit for loyola.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus loyola is right next to lake michigan, with a public beach only one block north of campus. the beach and lake are very popular spots during the summer months.
Bang for the buck loyola is an expensive school, but not outrageously unaffordable, and financial aid is available to students who qualify (typically gpa based). there is a ton of construction on campus lately, but the outcome will be worth it in the long run.
What to do for fun the university is in a great location of the city. downtown chicago is only 20 minutes south by public transportation, and the suburb evanston is only 10 minutes north (public transportation passes provided by the university). immediately around the university are plenty of restaurants and coffee shops. there is also a beach one block north of campus that get pretty populated during the warmer months.
Food and Dining typical dining hall/cafeteria food, nothing special. there are 3 dining halls on campus, all which serve different food every single day. the dining halls offer a strong variety, but average quality.
Dorm Life great living amenities for all students. rooms are fully finished, carpeted, have heating/air controlled in-room, wireless internet, free cable, and include furniture (bed, desk, and dresser). all dorms include laundry facilities and lounges.
Academic Rigor most classes require an adequate amount of studying and work outside of class to maintain a strong gpa. class attendance and participation is strongly recommended. most of the faculty are willing to help students out when needed.
Tips for prospective students visit the campus before you apply so see if the area is right for you. also speak with an academic adviser to discuss career goals and if the university has a program that will fit your goals .
In three sentences an excellent school based around ethics, personal character, and community involvement. it is a great school for any science (especially pre-med) and business related fields. the university has pretty good resources to help students enter the job market after graduation.

Food and Dining better than most other campuses, although you will inevitably get tired of the on-campus dining after a while.
Dorm Life dorms are relatively large and clean. ras are well-trained.
Academic Rigor while loyola is not one of the universities that come to mind when thinking of the nation's top schools, it has committed teachers and a diverse student body. it provides a quality education in the jesuit tradition. the honors program is challenging but interesting.
Tips for prospective students one thing to keep in mind is that 2/3 of the population is female. it is also rather expensive.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Loyola Campus Safety is awesome! Around our campus there are speakers that you can contact in case of an emergency. Also, Loyola Campus Safety has specifically designed cars/vans to pick you up and drive you to your dorm, usually they will drive you within a mile.
Clubs and Activities There are so many clubs and activities at Loyola that help you build leadership skills, confidence as well as long last friendships. I am part of the Polish Club and I'm planning to join a sorority next year which I absolutely can't wait for! :)
What to do for fun - You can rent a bike out from Loyola and ride it to Downtown and take a stroll by Lake Michigan - At least once a week I visit the Water Tower Campus located in Downtown to go for a shopping spree. - You can go ice skating in Millennium Park - Basketball games at Loyola
Tips for prospective students Always balance your time between study/homework time and going out with our friends.
In three sentences Loyola University in Chicago has a beautiful campus with profound teachers that are willing to help you succeed! There motto preparing students to live extraordinary lives is practiced and valued by every individual to help you have the best college experience while being prepared to make a difference once you leave Loyola University. Categories Comments Great for these types of students Loyola University Chicago School of Law offers a part-time evening program. It is great for students who need or want to work full-time and attend law school in the evening. It's difficult for single parents to do, but if you have child care in the evenings, it's a great option.
Bang for the buck It's a private university, therefore it is more expensive than a state school. However, it is a premier education and the alumni network is expansive.
What to do for fun It's Chicago! If you can't find something fun to do to blow off steam, there is no advice I can give.
Food and Dining unknown - I'm a commuter.
Dorm Life unknown - I'm a commuter.
Tips for prospective students Apply early. Be prepared for hard work. Become active in extracurriculars.
In three sentences Loyola University Chicago School of Law is phenomenal. Faculty and staff are experienced, supportive and motivating. The faith-based University fosters a community focused work-ethic along with providing students with an outstanding legal education.

Categories Comments Campus Safety A lot of stuff happens around here, but they seem to have it under control. You can get email and text and phone alerts.
Greek Life It's rather small, we don't have houses.
Clubs and Activities There are tons.
Great for these types of students The studiers, the partiers, the quiet ones, the friendly ones. Really anybody can find their own group. It's an open and rather liberal atmosphere. I thought it would be awkward for me since I'm not religious and I'm not Christian, but really I've never felt anything forced or anything taken from me since I am not. I feel just as accepted as I could be.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus We have quidditch here. There are certain study spots (the stacks and the reading room, aka the Harry Potter room) that are amazing.
Bang for the buck Loyola recently raised tuition, so it seems like it isn't as worth it as it used to be. I would be a commuter if I could, dorm life is just not worth it to me.
What to do for fun There is a lot to do. If you get bored with Rogers Park, just hop on the L and go to any other neighborhood (just be careful when you go past downtown!) Also, we have our own shuttle that will take you straight to downtown, specifically to our WTC. Chicago is expensive, so spend wisely, but have fun.
Food and Dining The food is disgusting. There is no sugar coating it.
Dorm Life Make sure you make friends, otherwise you will be miserable. Also, keep in mind that you and your roommate may not be the best of friends. Things happen and fights happen. Be accommodating, yet don't be walked on. Remember, it's not just your room (unless you live in a single. Lucky, rich you!)
Academic Rigor I am pre-med and in one of the harder majors; however, teachers here always take their classes seriously. There really is no such thing as an easy A here.
Tips for prospective students If you want to apply here: Make sure you have volunteered at some point in your high school career- the more the better Maintain your GPA your senior year, they will revoke your acceptance if need be
In three sentences Loyola University Chicago is a school that can improve in res-life and food. It is a school that should be proud of their views of volunteerism and community. It is an open school, (you don't need to be Christian to come here.)

Food and Dining Chicago = great food. Get out of the Loyola bubble and go explore. Campus food is great, but some of the best restaurants in the world are a train ride away.
Dorm Life Meh, the dorms are fine, especially since they built new dorms on the lake shore campus as well as downtown. I was really excited to be an upper class student living in one of the best neighborhoods in the city, Rogers Park.
Academic Rigor College is what you put into it. I would not call Loyola's curriculum the most rigorous out there, but if you are really there to learn, you will have the opportunity to get an education that is second to none.
In three sentences Loyola University is a small but rapidly growing urban school. President Garanzini's fundraising efforts have allowed the school to make major updates to facilities and technology over the past 5 years. The core curriculum provides an opportunity to become the most well-rounded student and citizen.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety is top notch here at Loyola as the city of Chicago has many surprises up its sleeve just as any university would no matter where its located.
Clubs and Activities Loyola has a great selection of clubs and activites on and off campus to light the interest of students attending Loyola and those who plan to join in the future.
Great for these types of students Like I mentioned earlier, anyone who has an interest in any Health professional career will be satisfied here at Loyola. Loyola is known for preparing students who want to become part of the medical field as they have their own medical school.
What to do for fun There is an unlimited amount of fun offered here at Loyola. There is a huge selection of clubs, organizations, athletic teams, learning communities and activities you can get involved with. There is something for everybody. Look for something that sparks your interest and explore what that activity has to offer and how you can grow from it. If you don't feel like there's much to do at Loyola, go ahead and explore your backyard, the great city of Chicago!
Food and Dining Loyola's food isn't the greatest compared to public universities but they do offer a variety of foods to chose from. Almost everyday they will have options from pizza to Mexican as well as a healthy selection of salads for those who enjoy healthier options. They have a soft drink station and a natural juice bar for students who enjoy making their own drinks. Not the best for everyday eating but great variety of choices and selections to chose from when you decide to eat at Loyola's diners.
Academic Rigor Loyola is a private Catholic institution that requires hardwork and dedication from each of it's students. Each student must fulfill the CORE requirements as well as complete their major's requirements. If you work hard by studying, completing your projects on time and turning in papers on time, you will be considered one of Loyola's top students. Keep in mind, some classes will be easier than others but most of the time the classes will be difficult. If you come to Loyola with the mentality of taking it easy your whole college career, Loyola shouldn't be one of your choices because you will be challenged as their goal is to prepare people to lead extraordinary lives.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you are vigilant when it comes to planning your classes especially in regards to time. Never leave your valuables exposed on a table or desk unattended (even when going to the bathroom) as this allows the perfect opportunity for theft. Utilize all Loyola has to offer because remember, you are paying for them! Do so by exploring buildings such as the library, the IC, tutoring center and much more.
In three sentences Loyola is a great choice for students who are pursuing any career in the medical field. Loyola revolves their curriculum around Jesuit Catholic values some of which are justice, faith and diversity. Loyola has two campuses within the windy city of Chicago encompassing two different worlds of lake shore beauty or downtown excitement.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety is excellent. After 6pm, if you are afraid to walk home alone, you can call 8-ride which picks you up and drops you off to where you need to go!
What to do for fun Loyola provides it's students with a CTA pass, which gives free rides on trains and buses throughout the school year. Loyola is a 25 minute train ride away from the downtown Chicago.
Food and Dining Gradually, the quality of food at the dining hall gets worse, but that's the same for every other school! Loyola is expanding it's horizon and constructing new stores. A new pizza place opened up by campus this year. We also have Chinese, Chipotle, Starbucks, five guys, red mango, and a million other places to eat located by campus.
Dorm Life Dorming is more expensive than tuition! I chose to live off campus because it was 4k cheaper. Dorming is mandatory the first two years at Loyola and getting a housing exemption is a big headache but you can get exempt.
Academic Rigor Loyola does give minus grades, which isn't always the best, but it provides good education. At times, you will feel overwhelmed and stressed but you will survive. Core classes are not too bad, but major classes will make sure you know the material
Tips for prospective students Tuition is high, but I promise you, you will not regret Loyola if you enroll here.
In three sentences Loyola is one of the best schools in Chicago for business and medicine. Loyola provides the highest quality of education for your dollar. Most of the staff at Loyola really care about you and are willing to make time to help.

Tips for prospective students Don't waste money if you don't know what you want to do because it does cost quite a bit to go here and you wouldn't want to waste your money.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Loyola's lakeshore campus isn't in the safest of neighbourhoods, but the Campus Safety officers do their best to keep everyone safe. We have an 8-ride van that you can call if you are within a 2-mile radius of campus and you need to be picked up. Also, you can sign up to get text alerts if an emergency occurs.
Greek Life Greek life is pretty prevalent on campus. I don't feel as though Loyola's Greek life falls into the stereotype of crazy frat parties, especially since their are no sorority or fraternity houses on campus. But if you are interested in a frat or sorority, there is one for pretty much every type of person, even business/academic ones.
Clubs and Activities There is such a great variety of clubs at Loyola. There are environmental clubs, medical clubs, ethnic clubs. You name it, we've got it.
Bang for the buck Loyola is VERY expensive but if you are a student interested in pre-med or nursing, Loyola is the place for you. Even if you aren't, there are so many classes and majors at Loyola that there's pretty much something out there for everyone.
What to do for fun Being in Chicago definitely has its perks! The lakeshore campus is just a shuttle bus or El train ride to downtown for the shopping, food and fun!
Food and Dining The food is not that great. It's some what of a hit or miss; some days the food is good and others not so much.
Dorm Life The dorms here are pretty awful! I stayed in Campion my freshman year and it was small, far from campus, cold, and something was always going wrong with the water or electricity in the bathrooms. If you are lucky enough to be in Regis or Simpson your freshman dorm experience will be much better.
Academic Rigor Classes here are difficult, but a definitely worthwhile. My favourite classes have been in anthropology and philosophy. Unfortunately, good science and math professors are hard to find at Loyola, but there are some hidden gems so ask other students or check out ratemyprofessor.com
Tips for prospective students Pick a major you will enjoy, study hard, go to your professors' office hours if you need help or if you just want your professor to get to know you better as a student.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is insanely safe. Each building has an ID scanner that locks all Non-Loyola people/students out after a certain time. Plus they have officers patrol the entire campus at various times in the day. There hasn't been an incident that involved a Non-Loyola student because everything is so tight and locked up. There is no way your safety will be endangered.
Greek Life Greek life at Loyola is just like any other college except they don't have the traditional Frats or Sororities (Alpha, Kappa, Omega). There is a frat/sorority for every kind of person on campus. If Greek Life is your thing, then you are sure to find one you like at Loyola.
Clubs and Activities Loyola has a lot of different clubs. They have clubs that cater to a specific set of people like ACE which means Achieving College Excellence. It is for first generation college students who need guidance and or have financial issues. Another is called BCC which is the Black Cultural Center. It is directed at the African American students on campus and it brings them together on campus since the number of African American students isn't very large.
Great for these types of students Students who are social and like to be around a lot of people. Furthermore hard workers because slacking at Loyola is not an option. Make sure you have good work ethic and you are social/friendly to survive at Loyola.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus None
Bang for the buck Not to sure what this quote is getting at but I'm going to assume its getting what you pay for. I believe you do get what you pay for. The classrooms are more hands on and the teachers actually know your name. The dorm halls are great and they have everything you need in them. Loyola is a great school aside for a few bumps and bruises on certain things.
What to do for fun Loyola sits in the heart of downtown. Go downtown and enjoy Chicago at night. There are plenty of restaurants and shopping centers for the people who love to shop/eat. Also, there is always something going on at Loyola like comedy jams, balls, dances, movies on campus etc. So you wont get bored to often. Combine this with a great friend base and you're golden.
Food and Dining The food sucks. I found myself eating things from my room and eating fast food the whole year. The dining hall has days where the food is amazing but majority of the time the food sucks. I recommend you get accustomed to fast food and buying groceries for your room.
Dorm Life The rules can be a little ridiculous but the Resident Life staff only do it for the safety of you and your fellow floor mates/building mates. I takes a little getting used to, but after a while it tends not to phase you.
Academic Rigor Classes are a lot different than high school. In college, you get a weeks worth of homework in one night. So be ready to tackle it all but the work isn't impossible.
Tips for prospective students Loyola is a great school. If this is your school of choice come here with an open mind and a willingness to learn new things. It can be a little rough sometimes, but if you have the right mentality about school then you will be OK and you will survive any and everything the school throws at you. P.S apply for a lot of scholarships
In three sentences Loyola is an amazing school. The students and teachers are great, plus the campus and activities are entertaining.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Being that Loyola is in Chicago, there are endless things to do. Such as visit all the tourist spots and then venturing into parts of Chicago that not many people know about. On campus, we have all division 1 sports teams. Basketball, volleyball, and soccer are the most popular.
Food and Dining There are many places all over both campuses for a student to eat at. There is also quite a bit of construction going on that will hold new and updated places to eat, as well.
Dorm Life Each and every dorm are up to date and have as spacious as can be living space for a college dorm. The process they go through to select resident assistants for each dorm is very intricate and catered to the needs and wants of the residents. You cannot go wrong with living on campus.
Academic Rigor Each class is not a walk in the park because Loyola wants to challenge each of their students to learn as much as they can. The challenge is not unbearable because they want you to enjoy your academic experience at Loyola.
Tips for prospective students If you want a reputable education as well as a unique campus experience, Loyola is for you. As the years go by, connections in the work realm is very well established at Loyola for you.
In three sentences Their academic rigor takes dedication but gives you an academic reputation comparable to that of an ivy league school. Loyola encompasses the diversity, cultures, and languages of Chicago to a tee. Attracting students from all over the country makes Loyola diverse in itself on a national scale.

Greek Life I'm not part of Greek Life, but I hear good things about it.
Clubs and Activities There are millions of clubs at this school.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There's the lake, where you can relax.
Bang for the buck Even though it's an expensive school, do as much as you can to make every buck worth it.
What to do for fun You can have fun downtown, it's just a shuttle bus a way. You can sit by the lake and relax. You can go to church. Also, on campus there are many events such as free food/picnics, concerts, etc.
Food and Dining It's not that great. There Rambler Room which is some good fast food and then you have dining halls like Simpson, which is an all you can eat buffet.
Dorm Life It was good, but wasn't too great. It depends on the kind of people that are around you. sometimes there are some anti-social people and some overly-social people.
Academic Rigor Prestigious academics, but there are some classes that are good to handle.
Tips for prospective students Study hard and just be yourself. Mostly everyone you meet is kind. Make sure to ask questions if you have any. Loyola is very good at answering them.
In three sentences Loyola University-Chicago is a very helpful university. I thought that when I would attend college, I would be nothing but a number, but here at Loyola, they actually try as best as they can to help you. They help as much as they can to allow you to stay and have a great college experience at the University.

Categories Comments Campus Safety We had blue light emergency buttons everywhere. If you feel like you're in danger, just press the light, and Campus Safety will be there in 15 seconds.
Greek Life Greek life is becoming bigger. We get a new sorority and fraternity every semester. It's not a traditional Big 10 Greek Life, but it's still great (being Greek myself)
Clubs and Activities There are so many clubs and activities at Loyola. You'll find the right one for you.
Great for these types of students Liberal. Nursing Students. Pre-Med. Business.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Going to Hamilton's Bar and Grill. Finals Breakfast are during finals week; you get to have breakfast at 9pm.
Bang for the buck Tuition keeps rising ever year. They try to make it up for it by allowing students to take 21 credit hours. Overall, it's decent for what you're paying.
What to do for fun Hamiltons Bar and Pco's. You also have your u-pass, so you can go down to Wrigley, Michigan Ave, basically the entire city.
Food and Dining Simpson, Lakeshore, Rambler Room, Nina's Cafe, and Terry Food Court. It's good and first, but it gets bland after a while.
Dorm Life Some dorms are great, some are not. You have a lottery number for your sophomore year and up. Two great dorms are Fordham, Georgetown, and Baumhart.
Academic Rigor Some professors are easy, but most of them are challenging.
Tips for prospective students Take a tour of the school. If you love the city, Loyola's great for you. But if you want a Big 10 school, look somewhere else.
In three sentences Although it is a Private Catholic School, the school itself is very liberal. Res-Life is not the greatest, but Fordham and Baumhart are great dorms. Loyola is going more for a campus feel, so there are a lot of constructions going on.

What to do for fun So many museums, zoos, aquariums and landmarks to see in Chicago!!! Navy Pier, the Field Museum, Shedd and more!
Food and Dining The food is horrendous. I recommend eating meals on your own or learning to cook.
Dorm Life The dorms are decent here.
Academic Rigor This is an A- school. It's not IVY league, not community college material either. It's challenging enough for all ranges of students.
Tips for prospective students Make sure the city environment is what you want. Loyola has a campus apart from the main Chicago streets, but it's not an isolated university setting. Also, make sure any program you think you might want to study is available at the schools you're looking at.
In three sentences Loyola is a campus for city-searching students wanted a great academic experience with keen access to one of the most amazing cities in the world. The school is rooted in the Jesuit tradition and has amazing building facilities to go with an outstanding faculty. The school also has an incredible range of subjects to study.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Many worry about Loyola not being a safe university because it is in Rogers Park. Loyola does a great job of keeping the campus safe. 8-Ride is available for students in the evenings who do not feel safe walking from somewhere on campus to another location on campus. There are officers always working and overseeing the area. If there are any safety issues, campus safety will send out e-mails to Loyola students.
Greek Life Greek Life does exist at Loyola, although only a small fraction participate. Some do hold larger events at school, such as St. Baldrick's.
Clubs and Activities There are a lot of clubs and other activities available to join. From ultimate frisbee to baking club, every student is bound to find where they fit.
Great for these types of students This school is great for students who want to have a strong core foundation in terms of academics. In addition, students who want a smaller university and one near a major city, this is the place for you.
Bang for the buck Some may be afraid of the cost for attending Loyola because it is a private university. There are many grants and loan options that are available to students, which helps make the university more affordable.
What to do for fun You have the keys to the city of Chicago as your backyard, what isn't there to do for fun?!
Food and Dining Although there are not a lot of dining options, you get used to the food options. You don't always have to eat in a traditional college cafeteria, there are other options where you can get some groceries or buy something from the grill.
Dorm Life Loyola is currently expanding and building more dorms to accommodate for their students. Dorms are larger than most traditional universities and and well kept.
Academic Rigor Although some of the material can become more difficult (especially when you get into your major), the professors at Loyola always try to make themselves available to help their students. Academic tutoring (that is free) is also available on campus.
Tips for prospective students Don't be overwhelmed by the university. Students are overall friendly and enjoy living in the city. With all the available activities, you'll learn how to balance work, social life, and homework very efficiently.
In three sentences Loyola is an expanding campus and the staff will go out of your way to make sure they are making accommodations to keep their students happy. It is a smaller university, so class sizes are not overwhelming large. Professors are very friendly and approachable.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety at Loyola is incredible. One thing you should take advantage of is the 8ride, which is a van that is sponsored by the school to pick you up if you do not have a ride back to campus. There are many secure measure taken for dorm life and there are a variety of ways to contact security in case of an emergency. Campus safety also makes sure that students and parents know about crimes occurring on or around campus.
Greek Life Although I have never been a part of the Greek life at Loyola, I have only heard of great things. I encourage all students to at least learn about the different sororities and fraternities around campus. It is a great way to learn about the university, and to make long time friendships and relationships for the future.
Clubs and Activities Loyola offers many clubs and activities to its students. There are various options including those more for recreation and those more career-oriented. One thing you must attend is the Clubs and Organizations fair toward the beginning of the fall semester. Students get to walk around booths to sign up for different things they are interested in, whether it is a sports team, greek life, or something simple just to pass time, like a photography club.
Great for these types of students The third floor of the Information Commons is a great place for students who are trying to study, or who are trying to get their work done quickly. This floor is completely silent, which is convenient during finals weeks.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Zip's Lounge is located in the basement of the CFSU building on the Lake Shore Campus. At first, I was a little nervous about going there because it was in the basement of the building, but it turns out that it is a great place to hang out, have fun, or eat. There are couches, televisions, and pool tables.
Bang for the buck Loyola University Chicago is an expensive school, but the school makes sure that it is money well-spent. For example, the class sizes are small, making it possible for the professors to develop a relationship with their students. Loyola also offers student tutoring centers for almost any course. Finally, Loyola provides a comfortable environment around campus and in each building for students to relax and to enjoy.
What to do for fun At Loyola University, you will never get bored. There is always some sort of activity going on somewhere on campus. Sign up for different events like the dodge ball tournament, or capture the flag. These are great ways to make friends and spend time while on campus. Loyola is also near the lake, so it is easy to find transportation to the beach. Or, instead, you could head towards the back of the school to relax near the lake and read a book.
Food and Dining Each and every dorm provides various options for food for each meal of the day. Some students do get tired of eating the food in their dorms, which leaves them with many options around each campus for them to choose. At the Lake Shore Campus, you can choose from Chipotle, Subway, Feliches, Five Guys, and many, many more. The Water Tower Campus also has many options considering it is very close to the Water Tower Shopping Center.
Dorm Life I will be living in Baumhart next year, located at the Water Tower Campus. So far from what I have seen, the location is great and the rooms are even greater. I have met many people along this process of choosing where to live, and each and every person has been very helpful. The university makes sure that you are happy with where you are and what you have.
Academic Rigor The academic setting of Loyola University Chicago is a bit challenging and difficult. But this should be looked at as a positive of the school. The courses and its professors push you out of your comfort zone and encourage you to provide excellent work. Do not let this scare you off; use it as a challenge and a goal to pursue greater things.
Tips for prospective students Although it might be intimidating at first, do not be afraid to ask questions. The professors are there to help you understand the class and are more than willing to. Also, take advantage of all the resources that Loyola provides. You will be surprised by how easy it is to access information on any topic, and how easy it is to receive help in any academic area from other students.
In three sentences Loyola University Chicago is a diverse school welcoming of all different types of students. The atmosphere is warm and relaxing all-year-round. And the teachers are determined to provide the best education possible.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus Safety is very good. There are a lot of systems in place to keep residents safe.
Bang for the buck Loyola is expensive because it is a private scholl.
What to do for fun You are in the city, you have endless options for fun. Also you get a U-Pass which is a CTA pass which is your key to the city. Riding on the trains and buses are free with this pass.
Food and Dining Simpson and Lakeshore dining get old after a while, but there are many options around campus to get what you have a taste for.
Dorm Life You are only required to live on-campus for the first two years and most people get an apartment right on campus for the last two years. Mertz is the best freshman dorm because of the social life and Marquette is currently the best housing option for sophomores.
Academic Rigor Academics are the main focus at Loyola. A lot of people complain and say it is hard, but as long as you have a good work-ethic you will be fine.
Tips for prospective students Be prepared to put in a lot of work. And make sure you get as many scholarships as possible :)
In three sentences Loyola is a great mix if you want a campus, but a city life as well. There are endless things to do everyday because of your key to the city (also known as U-Pass). Great school to earn a degree from.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Excellent campus safety, they always have Chicago police on duty.
Clubs and Activities Literally over a hundred different and personalized clubs and activities to meet you every need.
Great for these types of students Pre-Medicine
What to do for fun What isn't there to do for fun?
Food and Dining Being in such a prime location such as Chicago, the opportunities for food and dining are virtually endless. With a various selection and price ranges, either direction you take, you will be bound to run into something you love.
Dorm Life They have several dorm buildings that are very people friendly and in the midst of Chicago. This puts you in the middle the best city in the U.S.
Academic Rigor The academic rigor of this university is a little on the tougher side and will definitely challenge you. But other professional institutions take this into consideration, and that puts you a leg up against other applicants.
Tips for prospective students Work really hard and keep you nose in the books, it pays off to graduate from such a prestigious University with a moderately high GPA.
In three sentences Loyola University of Chicago is a great and historic place to pursue higher education. As it stands among the highest of institutions, you can be assured that the education you receive there will follow you throughout life.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is littered with blue security poles that anyone could use in the case of danger, and I believe they said a police person will be on site within forty-five seconds. They also have a free ride service that runs just about at all times for students within a couple miles of campus to get them where they need to be, no questions asked.
Tips for prospective students Start applying to scholarships very early. As can be noted, Loyola is an expensive school, so if you don't have family money to fall back on (and few do), you'll want to get as good of a jump start as you can.
In three sentences Loyola has two beautiful campuses, situated, respectively, on the waterfront and in the heart of a magnificent city. It definitely has a high price tag, but, whoever is willing to put in the time and effort the school will certainly require will likely come out at the end with few regrets and an eventual ability to pay off the loans.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Loyola is one of the only Universities with 24 hour security. You can have a security guard escort you back to your dorm at night if you don't feel safe and when you call for help using an emergency box, they come in approx. 15 seconds.
What to do for fun Since the campus is in Chicago, you can go downtown to shop, eat, go to museums, look at all the architecture or just hang out at hot spots around the city.
Food and Dining There's a buffet with a variety of food and a dessert bar.
Dorm Life The dorms look beautiful and there are different dorms for people with different interests.
Tips for prospective students Be involved; join clubs, take campus tours, etc.
In three sentences Loyola is a beautiful campus with a diverse community. It's in Chicago so there's a lot of things to do on your free time. And it gives you a lot of opportunities to learn and make new friends.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I see the campus police patrolling and there are stories in the school newspaper (which is free (along with a fine arts magazine)) which are interesting to read. It honestly feels like there's a bubble of safety around the campus because it's up north and as long as you don't go searching for trouble, you should be fine.
Clubs and Activities I was not in any clubs or involved in any activities yet.
Great for these types of students Anybody that likes a beautiful campus and perhaps more community inclined people. I'm rather isolated but the diversity creates an optimistic ambiance.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus It's in the city, it's not difficult to find something fun to do. You're budget is your only limit. (well, besides the tuition cost)
Bang for the buck Wait what?
What to do for fun You get to know people in the lab classes and smaller classes. I am not a very gregarious person, but I have met some very interesting people anyway.
Food and Dining There are many healthy food options as well as unhealthy options. As long as you have a steady income, you will get decent meals. We've also got a coffee station for Starbucks coffee in our computer lab/ library building which is a treat.
Dorm Life I have not lived in a dorm yet but I plan on it. I do not intend on using it for community building though.
Academic Rigor This is not exactly applicable to every class that I have taken here. There are classes that are much simpler than others such as Organic Chemistry vs. Bioethics. There are teachers with various methods of teaching for most classes and this is why networking is important for incoming students.
Tips for prospective students Although you're in the city, keep in mind that you are in college to get a degree. There are people here that are involved in drugs and drinking and it's an awful investment when Loyola is a very expensive college. Take advantage of the undergraduate Halas gym membership.
In three sentences It has a beautiful campus. The people are friendly and polite. Most professors know what they're doing: visit ratemyprofessor.com for a general review of the professors you're choosing.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are campus safety officers always patrolling the area and it is well lit with conveniently placed emergency phones just in case.
Clubs and Activities There are dozens of clubs on campus and they hold a fair to introduce new students to them every year.
Great for these types of students Any and all students, so long as you want to learn and have an experience.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The Lakefront is right there and is a great place to relax for as long as the weather is pleasant.
Bang for the buck I thought it was a great value and there are many options for aid to make it even better.
What to do for fun This is Chicago. If you can't find something fun to do, then you aren't trying hard enough. The university has many clubs and organizations for entertainment close to your dorm and the rest of the city is right there for even more.
Food and Dining The food is often dried out by heat lamps, but when fresh is often very good. There is a good variety and different halls have different types of food for more diversity. And if Kenny is still there, the omelets made to order on the weekends are delicious.
Dorm Life The dorms are kept orderly and clean. They balance safety and liberty fairly well. The routines might get tedious, but aren't overly inconvenient.
Academic Rigor The professors of Loyola are dedicated and passionate about their fields of study and will challenge you. Face the challenge and you will certainly learn and grow.
Tips for prospective students Tips for applying 1) Take as many AP courses in high school as possible. 2) Participate in some community service activities. 3) Don't focus only on GPA or ACT score, participate in some well-rounding activities. 4) Sign up early for orientation, this is when you pick your classes 5) Take as many classes as possible your first semester. It make make things harder, but it will make it more likely you get the classes you want 2nd semester. 6) The Finaid office is your friend. Apply for as many scholarships as possible and talk to the people in Finaid about help with loans. 7) Consider all your interests and skills when choosing a major, but don't lock your self in too early, you have time to change your mind and can choose more than one. 8) Pay attention to location when scheduling classes, 5 minutes won't get you from Lake Shore to Water Tower Campus. 9) Know your limits when scheduling classes. Give yourself a break in the middle of the day and don't overload yourself, strive for a balance between this and tip 5. 10) While you're studying in Chicago, take advantage of all the culture... visit Chinatown, go to the Opera, explore Museum Campus.
In three sentences Loyola is great for those seeking to get a good value for their money. It is a top quality education for less than many other private schools (though it is by no means inexpensive). The professors are always helpful, knowledgeable and friendly.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are always campus safety officers around campus.
Greek Life There are 16 sororities and fraternities on campus which includes about 10% of the campus. The Greek community is values based and very inclusive to any students.
Clubs and Activities There are over 200 clubs currently, which means there are plenty of opportunities for students with any interest to get involved.
Great for these types of students Any students interested in a diverse education with internships and a variety of classes should consider Loyola Chicago.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The Echo Spot behind the chapel is always really fun for new students. Also the new Wolf and Kettle statue is really nice.
Bang for the buck The price tag for the university looks high, but you get a lot of services included with tuition prices like the Wellness center and all the on-campus events.
What to do for fun There are cheap tickets all the time for shows and sports games in Chicago. This year I saw an Opera, Jersey Boys, A Midsummer Night's Dream, and a Cubs game for reduced prices.
Food and Dining The food is good quality, but it gets old after a few months.
Dorm Life The dorms are very modern and nice.
Academic Rigor The classes are challenging and diverse, but they are definitely rewarding.
Tips for prospective students Don't think you have to have everything decided when you become a freshman. There is plenty of time for you to try new things and discover your passions.

Categories Comments What to do for fun You are in Chicago. There are so many things to do around.
Food and Dining Try all of the different dining places on campus because the dining hall get boring after the first month or so.
Dorm Life There should be more things to do but I never really went to many activities because most are pretty lame in the end but you have to at least go to a couple to make the experience well-rounded.
Academic Rigor Classes are hard but what are you going to expect from college. Science labs are always going to be tough because of the different type of class that they are but never impossible.
Tips for prospective students Always be willing to take advice. Go to all the activities that they have they are worth staying up late to enjoy yourself.
In three sentences Loyola Chicago is a very diverse college and very open. They are constantly building which gets in the way. I would have to say everyone is amazingly nice, considerate, and willing to assist in anyway they can.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Always around when you need them!
Clubs and Activities Soooo many to choose from. There is definitely something for absolutely everything. Clubs sports to cultural/religious organizations, to hobbies and social interest groups. Loyola really is a home for all.
Great for these types of students People who are very focused on getting a quality education and not on partying their college away. Only for serious students would Loyola work.
What to do for fun Beach in the summer, but that's it. Not many restaurants or places to go out besides the library, which doesn't really count.
Food and Dining Pricey! And not worth the limited options.
Dorm Life Dorming is forced upon students and excessively expensive. Facilities are aged and lack food options. Bad in the winter.
Academic Rigor Depending on your major, classes can be very tough and had little leeway for slacking off. All courses are definitely college-level material if not harder.
Tips for prospective students Make sure to take complete advantage of your adviser and all the services they offer, they really are a great guide during your years at Loyola and they are very helpful if you can manage to find them.
In three sentences Great education, mostly wonderful professors (except for physics and organic chemistry, and history to a certain extent), but the rest are well trained and very understanding. There are many resources offered to ensure your success and is a great school for any major.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety is at a very high level. All around the campus the emergency polls are scattered and within a press of a button the security will be there in 15 seconds.
Greek Life There is a big Greek organization at loyola.
Bang for the buck It is pretty expensive and I cannot for sure tell if it is going to pay off later in life but the price is mostly because the location of the school is right by downtown Chicago.
What to do for fun There are a lot of activities on campus. There are many fraternities and sororities as well as soccer, basketball, volleyball and many more sports students can play.
Food and Dining There is a large variety of food students can pick from. From filled with bad cholesterol french fries, to a healthy salad with steak. Students make their own choices about what they want to eat.
Dorm Life I was a commuter my freshman year so I cannot say how the dorm life is but I am living on campus my sophomore year. The campus is great. It is new and clean right in front of Lake Michigan. Who can ask for something better? The building where students do their studying is right in front of the lake so students can take a few minutes to enjoy the view while they are studying.
Academic Rigor Academic Rigor is really strict but it also depends on what professor students have. I enjoyed pretty much all professors I had because they were knowledgeable about the topic they are teaching and did a fair grading on exams.
Tips for prospective students One of the biggest mistakes incoming freshmen make is the wrong time management. Time management in college is one of the most important things as well as dedication to studying and doing more work on their own than in class. There is freedom in picking ones own schedule but students have to be careful and pick the time that best suits their lifestyle so they have time for their everyday activities. Students should never put the work they have to do till the last moment or last night. They have to study a little bit everyday because its the best way to remember the information they are learning about.
In three sentences Loyola University Chicago is a great school for students who are interested in biological sciences and business. The school is filled with a lot of well educated professors who change the way students look at the world. My views changed in a good way and I developed better critical thinking after just one year of Loyola.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety is never far away! You should have their number saved on your phone but you never really need to call them. Moreover, if you feel someone is following you at night, there are campus safety poles where you can run to and press the button to reach someone at the campus safety office if you can't take out your phone.
What to do for fun When it's warmer, GO OUT. Within walking distance of the campus, there is a park with a tennis court, jogging course, and more! There's also the beach so when it's hot enough, you can go tanning or swimming or kite flying! There's also Halas where you can go work out; there are machines, basketball/volleyball court, and a swimming pool. Most importantly, join clubs and sport teams! They are fun and have frequent hangouts that explore the city!
Food and Dining The dining locations are convenient. I give props to Loyola for trying a variety of cuisines but the food is alright. My favorite meal from Loyola is their breakfast. I love their cereal selection and their freshly made omelets.
Dorm Life Dorm life is amazing! You make friends the easiest through dorming; you become close with your roommate and neighbors. There are frequent floor meetings and floor events so you get to know your floormates more but they are also optional, because the RAs understand that as students we can be busy.
Academic Rigor Depending on the professor, the style of the class varies. However, all professors don't want their students to fail and they are always willing to help you out. They are also very understanding when it comes to family emergencies or if you need an extension on a paper or project.
Tips for prospective students Joining clubs are the best way to become and stay social. Everyone is friendly, even the professors. If you have any questions, don't be afraid to email or talk to the professor or TA.
In three sentences I love the eco-friendly environment. Loyola has a water fountains with filters and the water tastes amazing! They are currently building new buildings and expanding the campus. The new buildings look amazing and add a new feel to the lake shore campus. My favorite building is the IC; I love listening to the waves and watching the sunset/sunrise there.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I see the campus safety vehicles everywhere. There are also security guards in each building. It's definitely a safe campus because it's near such a notorious part of Chicago!
Greek Life The Greek life in Loyola is popping! Students talk about the Greek life and how awesome it is all the time.
Clubs and Activities There is a wide variety of clubs and activities that suit any individual!
Great for these types of students Great for those students who like an intimate classroom setting and really want to develop a relationship with their professor.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Sorry, I can't think of any! I'm only on the Water Tower Campus.
Bang for the buck It's expensive, but I feel that Loyola is a well-known university. In addition, the courses are versatile yet crucial to the student's intended focus or major.
What to do for fun The campus is in Chicago, so what isn't there to do? If you like shopping, food, concerts, happy hour, sports, etc. You will never be bored in this city!
Food and Dining There are restaurants everywhere! Finding food between classes is never a problem since the Water Tower Campus is located blocks from Water Tower Mall and Michigan Avenue.
Dorm Life Cannot say. I did not live in the dorms. However, I have seen the graduate student dorms, and it is on the same street as the campus.
Academic Rigor Great variety of classes for each major or focus in Loyola's professional schools.
Tips for prospective students Use Iggy's list to find affordable housing off-campus.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety is very good about being present on campus. There are usually campus police patrolling all parts of the campus. The only thing I would suggest Loyola to do is provide a longer time for 8 ride. Many students could utilize the use of 8 ride getting them home past 2am.
Greek Life Even though it is small, Greek life provides a very different feeling at Loyola. Traditions with each organization are of course near and dear to the heart of its members. It still gives the big college feel to it with different events sponsored by Greek Orgs.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus A lot of people go to the Greenhouse in Mundelein.
What to do for fun Chicago has endless possibilities. Many people enjoy the time downtown on Michigan Avenue or even hoping on the L to get to Lincoln Park.
Food and Dining Dining hall food at Loyola is very mediocre. I would rather spend money at the fast food places around the school then eat at the dining hall.
Dorm Life Some dorms are a lot nicer than others, but each of them provides their own spice per say. For instance, Regis is a great dorm because it is newer and provides your own bathroom, but Mertz is very social and allows you to meet more people.
Academic Rigor It is really what you put into it. You can choose professors that will challenge you and make you a better student.
Tips for prospective students Be ready to open yourself up to new experiences. Chicago provides opportunities for Loyola's students to immerse themselves in unique places.
In three sentences Loyola University Chicago really emphasizes diversity. Whether it is with class selections or even organizations, you'll always meet someone intriguing. It also provides a great city feel with the downtown campus, but with the lakeshore campus it also shows a mini version of a college town.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Living in Chicago does have downsides, one of which being safety. Because Loyola's campus is in a big city, crime rates are high, but campus police are always patrolling.
Greek Life As part of the Greek Life community, I have had wonderful experiences in a sorority. Unlike other colleges, Loyola's Greek Life is a community of young men and women who want to work together to better their campus.
Clubs and Activities Loyola offers many clubs and activities, but oftentimes they go unattended or unnoticed, because advertising on the campus is so poor.
Great for these types of students Loyola is an excellent school for students who are serious about their education and career, and who want little distractions from their studies.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus One of students' favorite spots near campus is the frozen yogurt shop, Red Mango. During fall, winter or spring, Red Mango is packed with Loyola students enjoying ice cold frozen yogurt.
Bang for the buck Although Loyola's tuition, room and board cost upwards of $50,000, the education is 100% worth the cost. Nothing compares to taking classes taught by working professionals and living in the heart of the city.
What to do for fun Chicago is Loyola's playground. There are an infinite number of activities and events in which students can participate.
Food and Dining Like many colleges, the dining hall food is less than appetizing, but the cooks do their best to provide good service, at least.
Dorm Life Loyola really struggles to gain attendance at campus- and dorm-sponsored events. Because Loyola's campus is set in the heart of Chicago, there is often more to do in the city than on campus.
Academic Rigor Loyola's professors, tutors, counselors and staff make it their priority to coach students through their education and make their academic experience as meaningful as possible.
Tips for prospective students When considering Loyola, it is important to know that it is definitely not a school for everyone. It is not a typical college atmosphere; however, what it lacks in campus life, it makes up for in city life.
In three sentences Loyola is a very dedicated school. It is serious about its students' growth in faith, education and service. Above all, it is a school that continues to improve in order to better its students' college experiences.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety has a huge presence on campus. They are at all major events and just doing rounds. They are super nice and will do whatever it takes to keep their students safe.
Greek Life There is Greek life. However, it remains off campus, which I really like. You will not find Sorority Row at Loyola, it's great!
Clubs and Activities If you think of it, they have it. Quidditch Club anyone?
Great for these types of students Focused Catholic Genuine Caring Welcoming
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Homecoming Week Finals Breakfast President's Ball Damen Ball
Bang for the buck With Loyola you pay for great professors and living in the city, so of course it is not cheap. However, I believe it is so worth it. The quality of food for the price you pay could be much better though.
What to do for fun There are campus sport events and great food places to visit on the weekends. I believe Res-Life is trying to do a better job of bringing more activities to campus.
Tips for prospective students Have fun and take advantage of the great connections. Many of the professors are just waiting for you to visit them during their office hours... don't be shy!
In three sentences Loyola is everything I was looking for...and more! I love the campus atmosphere while still living in a major city. It's the best of both the subdued world and the active world.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Even though Loyola is located in a big city I've yet to feel truly unsafe while on campus. Campus security cruising around the pathways will soon become a familiar sight to any new students, and there are plenty of emergency posts where the press of a button will bring security to your location in just a few minutes. Though the areas a little ways off from the Lake Shore Campus seem to be shadier, basic safety precautions have kept everyone I've come to know safe and sound.
Greek Life I'm too busy with other aspects of my college career to get too involved with Greek Life, so I can't say too much about it. However, I have friends and roommates that have been involved in various sororities and they all seem to have a great time and make a lot of friends along the way. There is not a huge Greek Life scene at Loyola, but there are definitely options for prospective students interested in it.
Clubs and Activities Plethora of clubs and activities to get involved in. Just go to the Org Fair (held at the beginning of every semester) and you will most likely find about 15 different clubs you want to join. Make sure the meeting times don't interfere with each other and start attending! It's a great way to make friends with similar interests. Just make sure you don't get involved in too many as you won't be able to put as much energy or time into 8 different clubs as you would with 3 or 4.
Great for these types of students If you love Chicago and love the city experience, you will be enthralled at Loyola. Even though I'm more of a country-loving girl myself I still find comfort in the sweeping views of the lake on my way to class every day. Social students with a thirst for adventures will most definitely fit in and be able to call Loyola home. It is a very open and friendly community that I've never felt unwelcome in.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Loyola has an honest to goodness quidditch team (you'll have to see it for yourself). There are plenty of fun traditions at Loyola, but I wouldn't want to spoil the surprise for anyone. As for locations... I don't feel bad in warning you now that there is ALWAYS construction on campus. Almost any location is subject to be changed and upgraded at a moment's notice, but at least that means there's always more to discover!
Bang for the buck I won't try to hide the fact that Loyola is a very pricey experience, but you really do get your money's worth. There are always free events to attend almost every weekend, not to mention random free food giveaways. Aside from that, Loyola really does offer top notch education, with professors that are sure to challenge and enchant you, and, ultimately, teach you a LOT!
What to do for fun The options at Loyola are ENDLESS. I have honestly never been bored ... though I may have been pressed for time once or twice because I've gotten caught up in a particularly fun activity. If the day is sunny and warm you can go down to Loyola's beach and lounge on the sand to soak up some sun or go splash in the waves. If it's a bit too cool to don your swimwear, the beach is still a great place to start a nice long walk that can wind up and down the docks scattered along the shoreline. Besides the lake, there are plenty of small restaurants and cafes to explore at the Lake Shore Campus, and even some cute little shops just to the north. Loyola also has a very glamorous downtown campus located just off Michigan Avenue. Never a dull moment there! Horse-drawn carriages, tons of tourists, tons of shopping options, the John Hancock, the Hershey Factory ... truly endless fun. Always just a shuttle-ride away!
Food and Dining Some people have said that they find the dining halls on campus boring and constantly serving the same dishes, but I can say that there was always something new to try if you didn't already have an old favorite available for you. The dining hall is a buffet styled set-up, and the food is fresh and always being refilled, and the staff and cooks are exceedingly friendly. Oftentimes there is a chef on the floor, cooking fresh meals or making up sandwiches (though you can always make your own). If you would prefer to eat at home, there are several school-run grocery stores that are usually reliably stocked with plenty of treats, including fresh fruit, veggies, and parfaits.
Dorm Life During my time at Loyola I've lived in a Freshmen shoe box (Mertz), a single in an ancient building (Holy Cross Hall), and a quad on the downtown campus (Baumhart). Each space had it quirks and surprises, but I can honestly say I truly enjoyed my campus living experience. Roommates are often a troublesome spot for many students, but Loyola has a great policy in use that will ensure that you don't ever feel stuck with a particularly crummy roommate.
Academic Rigor Loyola has plenty of opportunities for engaging yourself in more challenging coursework, and all of the professors I've had so far hold their students up to the Loyola standard of hard work and academics. If you want a challenge, you can easily enroll in such a class, be you a freshmen or a senior.
Tips for prospective students There is a huge organization fair at the beginning of each semester, so just browse around the different clubs and attend a meeting or two before you decide which clubs you want to commit yourself too. Ideally, these will have a convenient meeting time, friendly members, and are about something that is very important to you.
In three sentences In the three years I have spent at Loyola so far, each day has made me happier and happier about my decision to attend this university. One simply cannot say enough about the stunning views of the lake- sure to lift your spirits after a particularly rough exam. The Water Tower Campus also offers a completely different experience of the city, one very few people can enjoy or afford otherwise. The campuses and exchange program around the globe guarantee that you will never get bored while earning your degree!

Categories Comments What to do for fun THE CITY OF CHICAGO IS YOUR BACK YARD! NEED I SAY MORE?
Food and Dining Food isn't that great, but something the student government and administrators are really working on.
Dorm Life I had a GREAT experience and my first roommate drove me nuts. Living in the residence halls are the first opportunity you have on your own. Don't pass it up. It was such a blast. You will never again live within a mile radius of all your best friends.
Academic Rigor Work hard. Play harder. You will have to study. It's college, but it will all be so worth it!
Tips for prospective students Work hard in high school! You never know how much money a school will give you based on your grades until you're applying and the letters come rolling in.
In three sentences An amazing University with so much to offer. It is really up to each student to grab a hold of all that is offered. I have had an incredible first year and excited to begin my second.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus Safety is great, right from the start. All the people who work there are absolutely amazing and great folks and they work so well with the students. They always make themselves available and take all reports and requests seriously.
What to do for fun Definitely check out the retreats that are offered through the school. They offer a chance to get out with a great group of people and explore Chicago or LuREC, the awesome recreation center Loyola has. There are so many options from community service to getting outdoors and physical; there's always something for everyone. Also getting out in the city is great. During Welcome Week, new students get the chance to be taken on tours around the city and you get lists of popular stores and restaurants around Loyola.
Food and Dining There are so many options wherever you are on campus for food. The food is surprisingly very good and the cafeteria is, thankfully, not constantly crowded so there are always good seat available.
Dorm Life Living on campus was what I was most looking forward to and I'm happy to say that it absolutely lives up to my expectations. My roommate and I were like great friends right away and all the people in my hall are amazing. My RA is terrific as well and really good at what she does. It;s just a great experience.
Academic Rigor It's pretty difficult coursework that they give you but there are so many resources that it lightens the load considerably. Professors are always ready and willing to help as are your peers and mentors that constantly surround you.
Tips for prospective students Get involved. And get to know lots of people; its no fun if you are antisocial. People in college are a lot more open to different types of personalities and are less likely to group up than in high school. Don't be afraid to break out of your comfort zone.
In three sentences Loyola is loyalty, family, acceptance, love and generosity. It is the place for those looking for diversity, for great opportunities and for a community that will love and respect who you are inside and out. Loyola simply is...the place to be.

Bang for the buck It is pricey. But, any college as prestigious as Loyola will give you a good education for what you pay.
What to do for fun You are in Chicago, and really close to the train and bus.
Food and Dining Simpson Hall has very good food. However, it can get old after a while. Use your rambler bucks to
Dorm Life I live in Regis Hall, and I love it! Private bathroom, and large lounge.
Academic Rigor Classes are difficult for some, easy for others. This is how any school will be.
Tips for prospective students Be ready to work hard, and learn about yourself along the way.
In three sentences I love the campus very much! The teachers and staff are all nice and helpful. You get a very good core program; you will recieve a great Jesuit style education.

Categories Comments Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is a fun little convocation walk for freshmen in the beginning of the year that helps welcome all of them.
Bang for the buck The school is expensive but if you want a degree that will continue to be worth more in the future then the school is definitely worth its buck.
What to do for fun Loyola is incredibly close to Chicago, and is an easy train ride down there or up to Evanston. Just around Loyola is a magnificent choice of restaurants and theaters. There is also just down the street access to the beautiful beach lake front.
Food and Dining The food is not up to par with such a high standard college. Though they offer a lot of places to eat at around campus. However, by second year you can get a dorm with a kitchen and there are a lot of awesome places to eat around the area.
Dorm Life Dorms are required for the first two years. Loyola is revamping a lot of their dorms and focus on trying to make the best experience. However, there dorms are definitely not the best but that's what makes it so much fun, and is a great bonding experience with many other students.
Academic Rigor The school has many great professors who will definitely push you. They are also very approachable so if the rigor of the school is to much for you they will help you.
Tips for prospective students Check out the location and campus, which despite all the construction is gorgeous and a definite decision helper. Also the tours are a great choice to go in because the tour guides are not only friendly but really knowledgable. Also don't be afraid to send questions to the school as they are very welcoming.
In three sentences Loyola University is a school rising in its esteem. It is constantly looking to improve itself and truly values students opinions. There has been much praise in current years for its proactive attitudes and amazing campus.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus Safety is ALWAYS around! There are posts set up all around campus so that if you have an emergency, you press a button and the first response is there within 10 seconds. Additionally, they are truly here to take care of the students.
Greek Life I have heard nothing but great things about Greek Life here; there is no kind of 'initiation' or hazing at Loyola, because we are all here to take care of one another. Greek Life is amazingly involved with service, volunteering, and creating bonds that can last lifetimes.
Clubs and Activities There are over 200 non-athletic clubs, Inter-Collegiate Division 1 athletics, intramural sports, and athletic clubs as well. There are so many options that it was honestly hard for me to narrow down which ones to take part in!
Great for these types of students Anyone and everyone can and will find their own niche here at Loyola. From Quidditch and Advocate clubs, to all kinds of intramurals and club sports, there is always something here for you to be a part of!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is a celebration called 'Wolf and Kettle Day' here at Loyola, which celebrates our founding by Saint Loyola of Ignatious and his family's generosity.
Bang for the buck There are so many incredible things you can be involved in at this amazing school. Not to mention the Jesuit Catholic style of learning, which is all about care for the whole person, or Persona Curalis. Everyone here cares for each other, which is probably something you won't experience at many other places.
What to do for fun We are in the city of Chicago! There is always something fun going on around campus, but if you want to go explore, there are many options for that as well! Transportatino off campus is amazingly easy! One of the best things Loyola provides us with is a UPass, which allows you to get on buses and trains throughout the city.
Food and Dining There is a multitude of dining option on an off-campus. I never go hungry!
Dorm Life I could not be more satisfied with the family I have developed already within my residence hall of 600+ students! I also ran for Residence Hall Association and am now the President of my hall.
Academic Rigor My academic adviser and I chose classes that would be academically challenging for me, which is exactly what you need to get you on the right track your freshman year.
Tips for prospective students If you are a prospective student, definitely come here for a visit! I guarantee you will fall in love with the campus immediately!
In three sentences I have been overcome with the amount of welcoming and encouragement I received from upperclassmen at orientation and the first week of school. Because of their amazing orientation program, I have had the ability to connect with so many students that I might not have had the opportunity to otherwise. The academic advisers helped me to choose all of the course that would best pertain to my major and minors, and I am completely satisfied with all of them!

In three sentences Loyola is a place where an introvert can transform into an extrovert-a place where you work alongside your professors and not for them. The community is like a large, extensive family filled with members of all shapes, sizes, and types who are both respectful and different from one another. Loyola also encourages the following of Jesuit values through the student promise, Care for Myself, Care for Community, and Care for Others.

Categories Comments What to do for fun It is Chicago! There won't be a day where there is nothing to do! There are also daily activities on campus ranging from school organizations, t dance clubs, and if that's not your cup of tea, there is always the amazing Chicago night life!
Food and Dining Food is good, but it is definitely hard to make healthy choices. I would recommend always having healthy snacks in your dorms. The good thing is that it is an all-you-can-eat experiences! It's great for those days that you are starving! Food could be a little more health conscious, but it is delicious nonetheless
Dorm Life Dorm life is great! Daily activities! Very interactive RA's and very easy ways to make social connections with everyone around you, even if you have a busy schedule. There is not going to be a day where there is nothing to do! Dorms are perfect size, and accommodate many styles of living. Comfortable, and most of the halls have been newly remodeled.
Academic Rigor It's great! Every class is challenging, but you can always tailor your schedule to go above and beyond ( which is highly recommended). No slacking here! Be prepared, organized, and success will follow.
Tips for prospective students Let yourself out. Do NOT be afraid to talk. LUC encourages you to find what makes you tick. Find out what you want to do, and make sure you speak out. If you hold back, you might find yourself stuck in a rut, but that is highly unlikely because there is always someone to talk to, from faculty and staff, to mentors, to peers. There is no way you cannot communicate!

Categories Comments Campus Safety There is a free of charge ride service called Safe Ride that will pick you up around campus and take you home. Chicago Police Department also ride around during the day and at night.
Great for these types of students This school is great for students that like to work hard and play hard. It is a rigorous school, and if you play too hard, you'll fall behind. You have to be ready to do serious work.
Bang for the buck It's a very good academic school, and even though the tuition increases, the tuition is justified. However, dorm life and dining really bring the overall value for your money down. The extra fees for these services are over-priced, and once you move out into an apartment (or commute from your Chicago-land area home), you get more bang for your buck.
What to do for fun For those of you old enough to drink legally, there are a couple of bars right outside of campus that aren't half bad, and the Red Line is available 24 hours a day to go to bars around Chicago. There are plenty of special events to keep you busy, as well as intramural sports for those interested.
Food and Dining Not terrible, but not very good either. It has a good variety of food groups, if eating healthy is your thing, and the meal plans are sufficient. There are two main cafeterias, Lake Shore Dining (connected to Mertz Hall), and Simpson Dining (under Simpson Dorm Hall). Definitely better than your high school cafeteria, but nothing to brag about.
Dorm Life Dorm life is good, but it's not outstanding. All of the dorms are sufficiently furnished, and are cable ready. The area is relatively safe, so there's not too much of a problem being out late. Mertz Hall is in my opinion the best dorm building, since it has a great view of Chicago and Lake Michigan on each side. The only drag is the RAs. They are very strict, being a Jesuit school, and will crack down hard on dorm parties.
Academic Rigor The classes are moderately difficult. Nothing too-out-of-this-world, but they are challenging, and you feel like you learn something from every class. You will most definitely need to spend a considerable amount of your free time studying and completing all the course work.
Tips for prospective students The Information Commons is one of the best places to sit down and focus, all the natural light that comes in through the glass walls makes it comforting and gives it a unique feel. There are also A LOT of student-led activities around campus that you can sign up for, so don't be shy!
In three sentences A good school with a great faculty! Campus is nice (when its not always under construction), and the area is one of the safest in Chicago! The only downside is the price of tuition; they keep raising it every year, even for current students.

Categories Comments Campus Safety They just released the safety report for the last year and campus seems really safe. I'm not sure how many people that really applies to though, because most people live off campus after freshman year.
Clubs and Activities There are tons of clubs on campus for just about anything you're interested in. There's even a knitting club where crafters just hang out and work on projects.
Great for these types of students If you're not hung up on the traditional college life feel, you'll be okay here. If you want a movie-like experience with activities on the quad and Greek row, you should look elsewhere.
Bang for the buck Loyola's name carries a good deal of weight and the business school especially goes out of its way to get you a head with different informational meetings, events, and internships.
What to do for fun Fortunately this is Chicago so you're not limited to campus. You get a UPass with tuition so you're free to take the CTA anywhere in town.
Food and Dining The food is okay but there never seems to be much variety. Meal plans are expensive.
Dorm Life I can't really rate this because I never lived in the dorms but everything I've heard has been strongly one way or the other: your dorm is great or terrible. No in between.
Academic Rigor I transferred in as a junior and my classes so far haven't been that difficult. The most challenging one is
Tips for prospective students Keep an eye out for the Department of Programming activities. They put on different things like movie nights, grocery bingo, etc. They also get $5 tickets to Cubs, Sox, and Chicago Fire games. It gives you a little more campus feel and is a cheap way to see things around town.
In three sentences Loyola has a great reputation for academics and it has pretty decent course offerings. The campus is nice but constantly under construction and it really lacks the college life feel. There are no sports teams to rally behind so it gets a little boring.

Tips for prospective students Tip 1: Do not take your acceptance to Loyola for granted. Tip 2: If you're going to commit to your education, do not quit. Finally Tip 3: Take advantage of the services Loyola provides you

Categories Comments Campus Safety Loyola has a department for campus safety which is located right next to its Bookstore. This department is really great, because they are there to help out with anything. Campus Safety also provides a service called 8-ride which will give you rides in a 1 mile radius of campus during the evening and night time for your safety.
Greek Life Loyola is not really known for its Greek Life, but it definitely has fraternities and sororities on campus. There are no Greek houses on campus, but the bond between brothers and sisters are still quite strong.
Clubs and Activities Loyola has over 200 clubs and organizations; you are sure to fit your perfect fit here! Even you don't find the club you are looking for, you can even create the club/org yourself!
Great for these types of students Loyola is a great school for many types of people. Those who would like focus on their studies over other things will find that they will enjoy this school; but those who would like to socialize and balance their academics will also find their niche in this school.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The Lake Shore Campus has a specific spot where your voice echoes. It is a really cool spot on campus! The IC (information commons) is the place to be on campus- the whole backside facing the lake is made of only glass, so you get a perfect view while studying!
Bang for the buck Loyola is definitely expensive when compared to the state schools, but it is also a private school which in the end will provide you with an education that will give you pride.
What to do for fun Loyola has a shuttle service that takes students to its downtown campus which is located right next to Michigan Avenue. Students always go downtown to shop, or to just simply hang out in the city during their free time!
Food and Dining Loyola University has 2 dining halls on it's Lake Shore Campus. Each dining hall has a variety of food that it serves, but after a while it does get kind of routine and boring.
Dorm Life The dorms at Loyola University, are definitely made for comfort and allow you to feel at home. The dorms are located right along the lake which also gives you a wonderful view! Although, dorming is quite expensive, it is worth the experience.
Academic Rigor Loyola is a school where you will be challenged to earn the A in your courses. This is not a bad thing; it guarantees that you will learn the things that will benefit your future.
Tips for prospective students If you are someone looking into Loyola, I would say you should most definitely go on a campus visit and tour. Loyola has 2 campus'- one in the heart of chicago, and another on the lake shore- find your perfect match! If you decide to go to Loyola, then you should definitely sign up for orientation as soon as you can, because this is where you will get to choose your classes.
In three sentences Loyola is a wonderful school for someone who is looking to be more than just a number in a large state school. At Loyola, you are able to develop personal connections with your professors and your classmates. Loyola is the perfect school for someone who is looking to challenge themselves; not to mention it also has a great view!

Great for these types of students Hard-working students. Nursing Students.
Bang for the buck Loyola definitely gives out a lot of aid, at least they did for me. And the education here is definitely worth it.
What to do for fun CHICAGO!
Food and Dining Food is pretty repetitive. Sometimes it's not cooked all the way. Other days it might actually be good. It really all depends. It's a hit or miss with dining.
Dorm Life Dorms are pretty nice, but depending on where you live, you can be stuck with an antisocial floor.
Academic Rigor It's hard, but not impossibly hard.
Tips for prospective students Be prepared for a heavy workload. Don't think that you can just do the bare minimum and be able to graduate. You need to put effort into all of your classes or you won't get very far. But there are so many people here to help you so don't worry if you're truly struggling with the workload.

Categories Comments What to do for fun At Loyola you will never be bored. There are many diverse clubs, activities, and organizations for all students. Many activities include academic and honors organizations, hobby and special interest groups, media organizations, cultural and ethic groups, political and social issues organizations, service and spiritual groups, and government and programming boards. Everyone finds something they are already familiar with or interested in trying. The many clubs are easy to join and either free or include a cheap admission fee.
Food and Dining The food and dining at Loyola is mediocre. There are many places too eat but after awhile you might feel as if you are eating the same thing everyday. There are many options to choose from yet many students are not completely satisfied with the food at college compared to back at home. But this is as expected with the buffet set up. Some days the food is very good and lines build up, and then there are those days where students are not as satisfied. It all depends on personal preference. There are food options for those with allergies and religious or personal standards. There is always desert and there is always salad. Basically the food and dining is really just average.
Dorm Life The dorm life at Loyola is above average. You are at college to study, eat, and sleep in the larger picture so you can not expect anything too extravagent though. There are some dorms that are new and very nice to live in. The older dorms are still very nice, yet most students would prefer the newer dorms. With that being said, Loyolas dorms are generally very clean, inviting, and updated. The greatest thing about dorm life at Loyola is as you are checking into your living area the staff is very welcoming and greet you everytime you come across them. At other colleges this does not always happen and it is comforting living in such a positive atmosphere especially if you are stressed during your transition into college or life in general. The resident assistants on each floor are very responsible and friendly. Everyone in each dorm becomes very close with one another and there are always activities set up. Those who are shy come out of their shell willingly. Overall everything about dorm life at Loyola is a reason I am grateful to be living here, it is a privilege.
Academic Rigor The academics at Loyola are outstanding. The professors are genius and bring out your full potential. The academic rigor is challenging but not impossible. You come to college to improve and continue your education so of course you need to work hard with much effort. The teachers are very good at their job and keep you motivated to the point where you are motivating yourself.
Tips for prospective students Prospective students should focus on getting involved. Loyola has many opportunities for all students when it comes to a diverse variety of clubs and activities. Try things you would not normally think of; college is about new opportunities. The atmosphere of the people at Loyola is very supportive and positive so trying new things is exciting and not something to be nervous about. This is how you meet new people and start to become comfortable with your transition from your life back home to college. Many students struggle with anxiety the first month or so of college when it comes to grades, the new lifestyle, and making new friends. At Loyola everyone you meet is open and greeting so you feel welcome as you walk around campus; you will fit right in. And as for grades, make sure to set up study times every day so you do not fall behind and cause yourself stress. There are many tutors and places to go for help with just about anything when it comes to academics or other problems that arise in your life. Other colleges you could be attending do not give you the same welcoming environment that keeps you comfortable and motivated to continue your studies.
In three sentences Loyola University Chicago is a great school for any intended major. This college pushes it's students to become the best well rounded individual they can be. The atmosphere is also very open minded and comfortable to be a part of.

Categories Comments What to do for fun You can always go downtown and explore the beautiful city of Chicago. There are also basketball games and other club events.
Food and Dining Simspon dining is known to be one of the better dinning halls. If you want to go to Simspon you have to go at a right time because it gets pretty busy and could take a while.
Dorm Life The dorm that I lived in had a lot of issues (AC breaking, heater not working), but overall it's pretty comfortable. The rules for the dorms make you feel like you're still in high school due to the guest policies and room inspections.
Academic Rigor A lot of the courses are very challenging, but it depends heavily on the major or class you are in. The sciences are very intense.
Tips for prospective students Be sure that you want to attend a small college campus, because going to Loyola that is exactly what you are going to get. If you want to be involved and have a good amount of friends participate in a lot of retreats.
In three sentences A religious, private university in the Chicago area. It is a very small campus that revolves around the atmosphere of Chicago. Heavily influenced by the Jesuit values.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There's plenty activities offered by the school daily. If not, there's always lots of fun things to do around the city that are inexpensive and not too far.
Food and Dining There's plenty different places to eat here and the food is great. Gets repetitive after a while so you may have to order out once in a while.
Dorm Life Dorm life is the best part of a college experience. You'll become a family and make memories that you'll remember forever.
Academic Rigor Great academics along with amazing professors and a wide variety of courses.
Tips for prospective students Come prepared! College isn't like high school. You're on your own now, so stay up on your game. There's no extra credit here!
In three sentences Fun, diverse community. Tons of support for whatever you need. Easy to balance a social life along with your studies.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus is super safe. Tons of resources if you need someone. They have a ride service for late at night. Campus Safety (police) are incredibly nice and willing to help. I feel totally safe on all campuses.
Greek Life Greek Life is rising in popularity here but I am not directly involved with it!!
Clubs and Activities Tons of on campus free activities, lots of free stuff (t-shirts, food, movies), lots of games to be played. Tons of club teams, and inter-mural tournaments.
Great for these types of students Smart, out-going and diverse people. Open-minded and pleasant!

Bang for the buck Its expensive but I feel like I am getting my money's worth!!!
What to do for fun On campus activities, sporting events, club teams, and hanging out with friends. Great city to be in! Lots to do!!!
Food and Dining The staff is amazing. The food is cafeteria food could be better, could be worse. Dining directors really open to student feedback.
Dorm Life Get involved its the best way to meet people. Your neighbors are friendly and want to meet you! However, with all schools you need to respect boundaries.
Academic Rigor This is a challenging school. Classes are hard and require a lot of study time and practice. Even though it is challenging do not be scared there are plenty of resources to help you. Office hours, study groups, tutors, and classmates that are willing to help.
Tips for prospective students Definitely come for a tour, you will fall in love with the campus!!! Talk to your student leaders they will tell you how great it is here. Be organized. Be prepared. Get involved with on campus activities when you get here.
In three sentences LUC has a beautiful campus with teachers and staff that really want you to succeed. Categories Comments Campus Safety There are many campus safety vehicles and officers, but there is still some occasion crime. There are occasional robberies in the area, but they do a good job at catching the criminals.
Greek Life There are a few different frats and sororities, but they aren't on the campus. The school definitely isn't big on them.
Clubs and Activities There are few sports teams here and the school spirit is minimal. Other than that there are many clubs, but I don't hear much about them.
Great for these types of students Great for students who are good with diversity and who aren't into sports.
Bang for the buck Although the school is very expensive, it does have a very good reputation and does look good in the future.
What to do for fun For fun there isn't too much to do. When the weather is nice for the first and last first weeks, there is a very nice beach that you can swim at, there are many parks, and there is a nice workout facility, but in winter there are less options. The city has many activities if you're willing to take a 20 minute+ bus ride.
Food and Dining The meal plan here is very expensive and you never eat the 14 or 19 meals you sign up for because you get tired of the bland dry food so quickly.
Dorm Life The dorms are very clean and rather spacious, but the guest policies are very strict. This keeps things very safe, but limits the amount of people you can have in your room and such.
Academic Rigor The classes I have taken so far are rather rough and I spend hours upon hours studying. The teachers are pretty hard on grading also.
Tips for prospective students Come ready to work really hard in your classes and to eat less than mediocre food!
In three sentences A tough school with a rigorous curriculum and many opportunities. Being in the city the school has many internship and volunteer opportunities. Unfortunately, however, there is not much school spirit.

Tips for prospective students Loyola is definitely more work in studies then a state school would require. Also can be really pricey.
In three sentences Loyola University chicago is a very eco-friendly institution. I absolutely love going her and the staff is always there for help.Loyola strongly believes in helping the community which i think makes them different from other universities in Chicago.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus safety team always keeps students up to date on the latest crimes and alerts and how to keep us safe. There are emergency phones around the campus to dial the police, there are dial a nurse hotlines, date rape hotlines, and other emergency hotlines.
Greek Life It's not that much of a huge part of Loyola life; around 30 percent of people participate in Greek life, but the ones that are involved, are really dedicated.
Clubs and Activities There are over 100 clubs, sports, and other activities including a Quiditch team!
Great for these types of students This school is great for medical students, especially.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I don't know if most schools give out free stuff for fun!
Bang for the buck It seems pricey for the school, but for everything you get out of it, including student health insurance, free flu shots in the winter, a great education, and being located in the greatest city in the Midwest Loyola is really worth what you pay.
What to do for fun Loyola has their own Red Line stop on the L, so it is easy to use your CTA pass and take it anywhere throughout the city. There are many places to go to around Rogers Park as well, including thrift store shopping, eating out, and there are two beaches next to Loyola within two blocks.
Food and Dining Some of the pricing on campus can be a little high, which is why some people like to go to the place down the street like Subway, Felice's (run by the students), Five Guys, etc. The school has little market places and several cafes that are not just for dormers to eat at, including a Starbucks in the library. Additionally, Loyola has their own version of a debit card called Rambler bucks which can be used on and off campus, which is good for when you have no cash.
Dorm Life I commute, which is not as bad as people make it seem; it is cheaper. But most of my friends live on campus, and I have seen them develop strong bonds with roommates and other people on campus.
Academic Rigor Some classes seem more interesting than others, and some seem more rigorous than others; it all depends on your interests and how much you are willing to apply yourself in a class. I have never met a teacher, however, that was not interested or enthusiastic in their area of study or the students they teach.
Tips for prospective students Be involved in clubs and activities that you think that you won't like, because you might learn something about yourself and find that you do like said club; it shows that you are willing to try new things and be involved as a student. And if you go to Loyola, use your CTA pass because you are paying for it anyways, and it is your gateway to the rest of the city.
In three sentences It's practically impossible to describe Loyola in three sentences, as there are so many things that make up such a great school, in such a great city. Students learn to develop strong relationships with friends as well as strong academic portfolios. Loyola teaches its students to cultivate new perceptions about the world and to go out into the world and use their knowledge for a greater purpose.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Safety is number one at Loyola. There are plenty of ways to be safe and get around safely as well. Campus police lurk on every corner to keep you safe and be on the lookout.
Clubs and Activities There are so many clubs and activities to get involved in on campus. There is no way you can say that there is not a club for you. Personally I have joined the African Student Alliance and also AfroDescent Dance Team. I found a place I could still indulge myself within my African roots.
Bang for the buck Loyola is expensive! Even though it is expensive trust me you get a lot of experience. You get the opportunity to explore a new city, reach new heights, and still be yourself. Yeah, some colleges may be cheaper and offer the same things, but at Loyola your getting the same things and a whole lot more.
What to do for fun Fun? At Loyola? There is plenty of things to do but there isn't bouncing off the wall fun. If your bored one night do not hesitate to take the L train and go downtown! It is so nice and the city lights will entice you. If you don't want to go downtown, then Loyola throws many events that you can attend in the student union. Just look out for announcements in your emails or around campus, who knows, you could score a $10 ticket to a Chicago Bulls game!
Food and Dining Some days the food is amazing and some days the food is BLAHH! There are options to choose from such as a vegetarian station, salad station, pizza station, and etc. Just try and eat whatever makes you happy. There is a waffle station too and endless amounts of cereal options so if your not feeling dinner or lunch one day you can always resort to breakfast. The desert station is just mouth watering, but please beware of the freshman fifteen!
Dorm Life Dorm life for me is amazing because I have my own personal bathroom! Lucky me! As for dorm life in general, it is pretty cool. It is like living in your own apartment. Most dorms are community style bathroom but I was lucky not to experience that! Downside to having your own bathroom is that you have to clean it yourself. Try and enjoy your living space as well as your roommate. Make the best of not being at home living with your parents and being able to go out whenever you desire.
Academic Rigor Study hard! That is all I can say. Make sure you do what is best for you and no one else. Do not be afraid to get a tutor and don't be afraid of going to your teachers office hours. It may be a class of 90, but it doesn't mean you should get lost in the class of 90. Make time for yourself, and don't over study. Ask questions in class! Email your teachers and most of all actually read a book! All these things will help you be successful in your academic life.
Tips for prospective students Some important things to keep in mind is to choose classes wisely, make sure to make important friends and colleagues, and most of all don't hesitate to get to know your teachers. Study effectively! Don't think that because it is Monday and the exam is Thursday that you have all the time in the world. You don't! Study hard and study wise! Don't hesitate to join clubs and make new friends outside of the ones you may already know and don't be afraid to be homesick; even if your 30 minutes away from home.
In three sentences Loyola University is a great school with an amazing atmosphere and many great things to do since it is located on the North side of Chicago and only twenty minutes away from Downtown Chicago. The campus is big and there are many places to go and study and hang out.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The university requires identification at almost all buildings of the school. There are also many security officers roaming around campus. However, there are many buildings that do not require identification or have a person at the front desk. There are many holes in security such as lack of cameras and emergency stations. Loyola can invest more in security, as it is extremely important.
Greek Life Loyola offers Greek life that emphasizes academic achievement and service towards the community. The GPA requirement for fraternities and sororities is higher than the University GPA. There are many programs within Greek life that provides students with the incentives to achieve and accomplish more.
Clubs and Activities The school has a very wide array of clubs and activities to choose from. The only problem is that many of these groups and organizations fail to receive funds from the University. The school needs to help out its student organizations more, especially the ones that raise a lot of money for good cause, such as the Global Health Initiative.
Great for these types of students If you live in a Chicago suburb, Loyola University is great for you because it will allow you to commute from home and save a lot of money. It is also great for students who are academic-oriented and do not participate in Greek life or parties. It sounds clich©, but Loyola University Chicago does offer something for everyone.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is an Echo-Spot located just outside the Madonna Della Strada Chapel in which you can hear conversations from far away.
Bang for the buck It is a private institution, so costs are high. However, Loyola is very generous when it comes to offering scholarships and financial aid. It is a Jesuit-Catholic school, so it is good at putting the student over the financial costs. However, overall tuition is still high.
What to do for fun Loyola University Chicago is located near and also right in the heart of downtown Chicago, one of the greatest cities in the world. From high class restaurants, Chicago sports games, and relaxing on the beach, the campus at Loyola University offers an endless amount of opportunities for social life.
Food and Dining Food and dining at most residence halls is not expected to be good at any college. The food has been of average quality. The newly constructed student center does offer many healthier food options.
Dorm Life Dorm life at Loyola University Chicago is on the rise. What was once know to be a commuter school is now expanding its dorm life by constructing many new residence buildings along the Lake Shore Campus. However, the older dorm buildings are small, outdated, and in need of repair.
Academic Rigor Loyola University especially offers many rigorous programs for anyone pursuing a career in the medical field. Its business program is nationally ranked. Loyola is a mid-sized school, so class sizes range anywhere from small to large. This means that there are less lecture halls and more discussion-oriented classes, so professors can pay more attention to students. The college sets high standards for those who earn academic scholarships and/or hope to acheive the Dean's list.
Tips for prospective students Take advantage of all the opportunities that Loyola has to offer. You can explore Chicago and its surrounding areas. Also, sign up for an early Orientation so get the first pick at classes for your first semester. College life is very simple: stay focused, work hard, limit your distractions, and most importantly - eat and sleep well!
In three sentences Loyola University Chicago is an underrated institution that gives students the opportunity to grow as people in the Jesuit tradition. Opportunities such as participating in various service opportunities and projects enable students to excel outside the classroom. The school does a wonderful job of utilizing its beautiful location along Lake Michigan, just outside of downtown Chicago. With its acclaimed faculty and wide network of career opportunities, Loyola provides students with an advantage in preparing to earn their degree and eventually succeed in the future.

Categories Comments Food and Dining On-campus dining is horrible but mandatory for Freshman. Campus dining has been trying to improve, but so far it does not offer a wide variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, vegetarian and vegan options or healthy dishes.
Dorm Life RA's are extremely helpful in creating a welcoming environment and introducing you to the other students on your floor. The dorms are extremely social and offer many fun activities.
Academic Rigor Classes are challenging but you can definitely be successful if you work hard and attend class.
Tips for prospective students Get involved in clubs early on. They will help you meet people and begin a daily routine. Make sure to do the assigned classwork throughout the semester so final's week isn't too overwhelming.
In three sentences Loyola University-Chicago is an excellent university for pre-medicine majors. It offers a wide variety of extra-curricular activities and sports and has a wonderful group of students. It is not the biggest party school, which can be good for some students and bad for others.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus itself is pretty safe. You do have to be careful when venturing out into the surrounding area, but no more so than anywhere else. Just stay smart about it and you should be fine. 8Ride is available for anyone who is either too drunk to be driving, or even if you just don't feel comfortable walking outside alone. No questions are asked. Likewise, the Good Samaritan Policy enables students to get their friends help if they are seriously intoxicated and in need of medical attention. No repercussions will be applied to you...Loyola just wants to make sure that nobody gets hurt.
Greek Life Oh Lord...Loyola definitely has a Greek life. A lot of the ultra-wealthy, cliqueish socialites seem to permeate these institutions, but Loyola also has a service oriented co-ed fraternity. This is pretty great for those students who are looking for a society that isn't all about hooking up and vomiting all over yourself. Of course, we do have those social sororities too...
Clubs and Activities Loyola has your typical gamut of activities. A lot of them are student created, which is nice because if you have an idea for a club you can build it up yourself. Sports are not as big here as many other universities (sorry, no football), but there are smaller, individual teams that compete for fun. Loyola also has a Quidditch team, which is slightly ridiculous, but great too.
Great for these types of students Loyola is a bit of a paradox...it's great for students who have more money than they can count, or students who are so poor that they don't know how they'll pay for it all. That being said, if you were smart enough to land a full ride here (or at least a partially funded one), you will very likely spend at least the first year kicking yourself for not having have spent the extra money to go to UChicago or Northwestern. Don't worry, you will eventually meet other equally poor, intelligent kids like yourself. You can always go to a better place for graduate school.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus One of the best parts of campus is the beach. There's actually a small strip of it that can only be accessed by climbing over the boulders off to the side of the Lakeshore library. It's a little difficult to access, but it's a really cool place to hang out with your significant other or engage in illicit activities...just realize that it is very visible from the the library windows.
Bang for the buck Loyola is not cheap...which is probably why your average student who comes here is ridiculously wealthy. Most of the students in attendance COULD have gone to an Ivy League school had they actually put any effort into their high school years. That being said, Loyola does give some pretty fantastic scholarships and financial aid, so if your parents don't own a private jet and a couple of islands it actually may be worth coming here just for the free ride.
What to do for fun Chicago is one of the greatest cities in the world. There are so many places to explore from Chinatown to the trendy world of Wicker Park. Loyola also pumps a lot of money into ensuring that there are always fun activities and programs going on. Most of these involve free food and other little trinkets. There are really an innumerable amount of opportunities for entertainment.
Food and Dining The food here, while not exactly atrocious, isn't exactly what you would find served at the Ritz. I've often seen the staff using their BARE HANDS to lift food that had fallen on the side of the buffet and PUT IT BACK IN THE SERVING PLATTER. Loyola refuses to break their contract with Aeromark, although students have reported cases of food poisoning multiple times. Instead, they are making meal plans mandatory for freshmen AND sophomores next year, and upping the cost of the lowest meal to make it equal the most expensive one served this year. Remind me again why I'm paying 40k a year to eat here?
Dorm Life The dorms at Loyola are ridiculously over-priced. Half the time the heating system and elevators don't even work. I knew several people who had to be PHYSICALLY LIFTED out of an elevator when it suddenly stopped mid-motion. They were coaxed out, up a small opening in the top, by the calming news that if they didn't hurry up and hoist themselves out, the elevator could suddenly drop and splice them in half. Isn't that nice?
Academic Rigor If you truly dedicate your time to your studies, there is no reason to earn anything below a 3.8 GPA. The professors here go out of their way to work with you to achieve academic excellence. That being said, not all major tracks are equal. The medical program here is really strong...English? Well, not so much...
Tips for prospective students Before you finalize your college decision, really make sure that this is the place for you. Realize that the people you see are going to be your classmates for the next four years. If you find that thought unappealing, despite the beautiful campus and great professors...well, you may want to check out UChicago or Northwestern, both of which are practically right across the street.
In three sentences Loyola is nothing short of idyllic...if you are the right student for this school. However, if you are truly passionate about academics, come from a lower-income background, and have interests that exceed petty drama and clothing purchases, you may find that you have a bit of trouble finding your niche. That being said, Loyola offers fantastic financial aid, has great opportunities to work side-by-side with awe-inspiring professors, so if you can get past the vapid veneer of your average Loyola student, this school can be a great place-- I give it 3.5 stars.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The neighborhoods surrounding the campus are very good. There have been some minor robberies since I've been here but that is the extent of the crimes that are present. Since the campus is so small though there is usually nothing that happens on the campus, just in the area around the campus.
Greek Life There are not that many fraternities and sororities, about 5 fraternities and 10 sororities in all. Greek life is not that prominent but if it is something that you are interested in it is an option.
Clubs and Activities They have a club for everything. If there is something you are interested in you will most likely find a club for it. There is an activity fair at the beginning of each semester that they hold to allow students to enact with members of these clubs and to see what they are all about.
Great for these types of students Loyola is known for its medical school and program. If you wish to pursue a career in the medical field then Loyola is the school for you. The school also has a very prominent business program located downtown.
Bang for the buck Although the cost of tuition is very pricey (because it is a private school) you will have a great experience if you decide to use all of the resources at your disposal.
What to do for fun Living in the city of Chicago means there is always something to do whether it's just taking a trip downtown and seeing the sights or going to local establishments and hanging out with your friends. There are tons of museums and other cultural places which Loyola gives discounts or free admission to if you are enrolled as an undergraduate. The beach is always an option when it is warm out because the campus is located on the lake front. Finally, there are also some activities and events during the week that the school usually notifies students about.
Food and Dining I am a transfer student so I have never eaten or dined on the campus and never had a meal plan. I cannot get give an accurate response but from what I hear the food is actually decent but the cost for eating on the campus is very pricey.
Dorm Life I have never lived in a dorm so I cannot give an accurate rating but from what I hear the dorms are pretty nice.
Academic Rigor I am a biology student and the classes I take are very rigorous and it takes a fair amount of study time and work to complete the class with a decent grade. There is definitely a large amount of rigor.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you get your finances squared away, that is the most important step. It is also a good idea to get involved with a club or group, it doesn't have to be something you commit your time to but something to get you active and see the world.
In three sentences Loyola university is one of the most diverse universities in the Chicago-land area and the campus is one of the most appealing campuses I have ever seen. The professors and staff make it a priority to help students achieve their goals and they do everything they can to provide information and resources for students to get the most out of their college experience. Although the programs are very difficult here, I would say that Loyola is one of the best colleges to attend.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus Safety is strict. Not mean, but definitely strict.
Greek Life SO LACKING. If you're here only for Greek Life, don't waste your money.
Clubs and Activities There are so many clubs and activities here! This campus never rests!
Great for these types of students This school is especially great for students who want to avoid the crazy party atmosphere. There are parties here, but they are few to none. Our Greek Life is lacking a little, but as I (personally) am here to study and have no interest in partying, I feel like a student like me fits in perfectly here. There are plenty of other things to do anyways. If you want to drink, the student center is putting in a bar.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Sister Jean is a Chaplain here at Loyola and she likes to walk around campus and pass out newspapers in the Corboy Law Center. She has these cute custom sneakers that Nike made for her that say Sister Jean on the soles. Also, there's a spot behind the chapel where you can stand and you'll hear your voice echo, but nobody else will, even if they stand right next to you.
Bang for the buck Tuition is expensive but we get great resources, plenty of campus events, and SO MUCH FREE STUFF. The campus is beautiful and the facilities are all wonderful. It may be a lot to pay, but they make it worth your while. The only reason it wouldn't be worth the money is if you don't take advantage of the many on campus events and resources. You're paying for it, use it!
What to do for fun Take your U-Pass and go explore the many neighborhoods of Chicago. You don't even have to go far, Rogers Park has some great places. Also, The New 400 Theatre is a great little place to go see a movie. Oh, and we get discounts at The Great Wall chinese place, but it's not the best place. It's okay, but there are so many good restaurants around here! Go to Giordano's, or use grubhub.com to find somewhere to eat around here.
Food and Dining All of the dining here is pretty good. The best place to eat is (currently) Simpson Dining. I would advise not eating at Lakeshore Dining, except come April we won't even have Lakeshore Dining. They are opening up a brand new student center where I'm sure there will be exceptional food.
Dorm Life Living here is the best experience you could possibly have. Both campuses are beautiful, and you are given a CTA pass to travel around the city and in between campuses. It's beautiful here, and there are always plenty of events. You get to live with your best friends, and get a great education in the best city in the world.
Academic Rigor Some classes can be easy, but for the most part all of the courses here are challenging, but in a good way.
Tips for prospective students Time management is crucial. Get involved around campus, there are many benefits. Take time to figure out how YOU study, and don't rely on other people's study habits. Self-discipline is key.
In three sentences This school really cares about the individual student. The academics are wonderful. This is the best place to live and go to school.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Loyola is a pretty safe place but we are in Chicago so traveling in groups and staying away from dark allies is always advised. The campus stays pretty quiet with both Campus Security and Chicago P.D. around. However, if anything does happen near by Campus security notifies all students.
Greek Life Greek life is not very big here but it is growing. about 10% of the student body is involved in Greek life
Clubs and Activities Loyola has a club for pretty much everyone from ethnic clubs, to knitting clubs, to comic book clubs, to sports clubs. There is something for everyone
Great for these types of students Everyone! Honestly I walk around campus everyday and see students from different backgrounds, races, ethnicity, and religions. Loyola can be a home to anyone.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus At the beginning of the year we have Convocation, a welcoming of the new students, were all the freshmen walk through the green doors of Cudahy Library, and the only other time those door are unlocked is at graduation. Other interesting locations are the echo spot in front of the Modona Dela Strata, the reading rooms in the library and information commons, and the green house on the roof of Mundelein
What to do for fun You are in Chicago! One of the best cities in the world! go to the beach, explore new neighborhoods visit down town. The opportunities are endless.
Food and Dining The seating is comfortable but most the time the food is not as hot are a tasty as students would like. Also as a vegetarian it almost seems like my only choices are salad, pizza, and pasta.
Dorm Life The dorms are great. Many of the new dorms almost feel like smaller hotel rooms. There is apartment style housing, rooms with community, semi-community, and private bathrooms as well.
Academic Rigor It is challenging being here the Profs. expect a lot out of you but you can always ask for help and they will be there. They want you to succeed too.
Tips for prospective students Work hard and study hard. It is a great here but it take some work. But do not forget to relax and enjoy the city too.
In three sentences Loyola is a great school with a beautiful campus. The expect a lot out of there students here but are willing to help them succeed. They always provide great opportunities for there students.

Categories Comments What to do for fun As a student at Loyola Chicago is your playground. You should never be bored with Chicago in your backyard and multiple, free ways to get around it using your all paid for Loyola U-pass. There are amazing restaurants, museums, downtown events, and much more to explore. That is not to mention the events hosted regularly all over campus like movie nights and much more!
Food and Dining The food at simpson and lake shore dining is fine, maybe even good at the beginning of the year when you are first dipping your feet into college life. As the year goes on you will start to notice that the dishes are washed very poorly, the same dishes are served weekly/daily, and it all just gets boring and disgusting. Overall it's not as bad as it sounds, the food just gets very boring and begs for variety most of the time.
Dorm Life Everyone is very willing to meet and make friends with you. No matter what dorm you find yourself in, you will be greeted with friendly faces, fun if you look for it, and quiet areas to study in. Dorms tend to range from very social to more quiet. I currently live in regis as a freshman and we have a good balance of social interaction and quiet times for studying.
Academic Rigor Difficulty of classes depends mostly on what academic program you place yourself in. Loyola is a very biology and chemistry oriented school so there are more specialized courses along that path that may challenge the student a bit more. This doesn't mean the other courses offered at loyola aren't good, I personally don't know how difficult they can get compared to science courses, which are generally difficult.
Tips for prospective students Get involved. There are so many ways to do so at Loyola. Especially during freshman year everyone is very willing to get to know you and make friends. Be sure to start your 4 years as an undergrad strong and get good grades while making connections. It is important to not lose sight of your goals.
In three sentences Loyola is a wonderfully diverse campus offering opportunities in not only academics, but in athletics and education of the person as a whole. Loyola is very inclusive and will make you feel at home during your time as an undergrad, and after you leave. With so many opportunities offered at loyola, one is sure to find what they are looking for in a college.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Take the train out to the city or go by the lake!
Food and Dining Food is bland sometimes, but the salad and sandwich bar adds a bit of variety to everyday dining.
Dorm Life Dorms are kept clean and tidy, and many events are planned throughout the year.
Academic Rigor Academically Rigorous, especially if you are in the honors program and/or are a science major.
Tips for prospective students Don't make Loyola a back up school, it is a great school to have as your first option. Try to look at professor rating websites to choose the best in the batch. Also, don't forget to apply for the honors program if you are recommended, it is a great program.
In three sentences Loyola is a great school. I love how it is a part of the city, and right by the beautiful Lake Michigan. The students and faculty here are very supportive and friendly.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The Campus Safety is great here especially their response time to any kind of distress. For women, they offer to drive you back from any part of the campus to your dorms at night when the school shuttle stops working.
Clubs and Activities There are so many clubs on campus. There is literally a club for everything here and they are well organized clubs as well!
What to do for fun I go workout and make sure of the rec center we have. It's not the biggest, but it's not bad. It gets the job done. However, they are remodeling the place to make it bigger and better.
Food and Dining Surprisingly, the food in the dinning halls is phenomenal. I didn't think it would be great, but there is so much variety and the food is always hot. I love eating the food here. Also, they have a fast food place on campus which has a lot of good junk food in it as well!
Dorm Life The dorms here are great for the most part. Living in the dorms for the past year has really changed my life. I am more independent and have definitely expanded my social network. Dorm life is extremely recommended for the first couple years of college.
Academic Rigor This is a tough school with a tough academic program, but don't let that intimidate you because the teachers are just as helpful. They want their students to succeed, so take advantage of the time they give you and bother them with questions.
Tips for prospective students Don't fall behind because catching up can be extremely difficult. Also approach your professors if you're having trouble because they are very friendly and are actually eager to help their students. Don't take shortcuts because it will hurt you in the long run.
In three sentences Loyola University of Chicago is a fine school that has a lot to offer to their students. They focus on teaching the students here and because of that students tend to progress more. The best part about this school is that the class sizes are small, so there is more interaction with the teacher.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I believe it is one of the safest schools in Chicago. The campus police genuinely care about our safety.
Greek Life No personal experience but stories sound great.
Clubs and Activities Everything, you name it!
Great for these types of students Anyone
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus You walk through the fancy church doors twice, freshmen orientation and graduation.
Bang for the buck Expensive but worth it
What to do for fun Take the red line and go explore beautiful Chicago!
Food and Dining A lot of variety but sometimes seems very unhealthy unless you make good choices and have self control.
Dorm Life You can have a party dorm or a quiet study dorm and frats and sororities, basically anythign you want.
Academic Rigor Amazing courses with so many wonderful professors and programs for basically any field.
Tips for prospective students Stay on top of your game, don't procrastinate. Try not to switch between what you think you want and what you really want, only do what you really wan to do for the rest of your life. Live college to it's fullest because the time really flies right in front of your eyes.
In three sentences Loyola is a beautiful school with a gorgeous campus located right on Lake Michigan. It has some of the greatest professors I have ever come across. It offers very broad ranged programs including Study Abroad in Rome or China

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus Safety is a little over-the-top with their massive squad cars and constant prowling, but I guess it's for our own good since crime in Chicago is a real threat. The nice thing about Campus Safety is that you can call them 24/7 for anything, including your heating or air conditioning breaking or if you just want an escort to walk you someplace when the Loyola taxi service isn't available. The good outweighs the bad.
Greek Life There are no frat houses or sorority houses on campus. Personally, I think that's a good thing, since most of the people in sororities or fraternities tend to be a pretty clique-y and sometimes develop a weird God complex type personality. Sororities and fraternities have a bad reputation because of this - they are honestly just rude. I'd say if you go to Loyola, consider avoiding the Greek scene.
Clubs and Activities The extracurricular scene at Loyola is HUGE. There's a website for all the student organizations that you can access once you're a student there, and there is literally something for everyone. Activities are always going on and a lot of them involve free food, so that's a plus.
Great for these types of students Loyola is great for studious people, and obviously if you're Christian you'll be perfectly at home. However, even if you aren't religious, Loyola is great for people who are into social justice and volunteer work. There's a TON of that going on on campus, since Rogers Park has the highest refugee population of all the neighborhoods in Chicago - this opens up a lot of opportunities. If you're not into that, there are a bunch of other opportunities to get involved and help out, so whether you're into feminism, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, or animal shelters, Loyola is all about social work.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I haven't noticed any weird traditions among the general student body, but the sororities and fraternities are definitely big on unusual traditions. Strange locations include the echo spot, which is in front of the chapel and you can hear your own echo if you're standing on it but no one else can, as well as tons of creepy rooms and hallways in Cudahy Library.
Bang for the buck Though Loyola demands a pretty steep price, the Financial Aid people are more than willing to work with you. I was surprised that even though my first semester I did pretty horribly, they gave me more than enough time to bring my GPA back up to the required level to keep my scholarship without taking away a dime. Also, the fact that the Career Center will review your resume and cover letters for free basically for your whole life is pretty awesome. Loyola has a great reputation as well, so remember that you're also paying for that reputation.
What to do for fun The newly opened Damen Student Center has Wiis, Xboxes and Playstations for rent as well as pool, a movie theater, a food court, and other fun stuff. There are free movies on campus at least once a week. Once you're twenty-one apparently there's a decent bar life around campus as well but it's low-key enough that younger students don't notice it.
Food and Dining The food has a reputation of being downright horrible, but it's really not as bad as it seems. You figure out eventually what's good and what's not since the dining halls make essentially the same things and cycle through recipes on a monthly basis. Surrounding restaurants are great and pretty cheap, though, so if you can't handle the dining hall there are other options.
Dorm Life Though most of the dorms are very well-maintained and recently renovated, the department of residence life can be very difficult to work with, especially during times of roommate selection. You have to really assert yourself to be heard there - they don't like to make exceptions for roommates or room changes. However, if you are persistent it can be done.
Academic Rigor It really depends on the classes you take, but you must remember that introductory-level courses are looking to weed you out. It will be a huge step up from high school at first, but the idea is that you stick it out through the difficult beginning and then you get the hang of things. Definitely put in your best effort and take tons of time out to study. This is not an easy school by any means, but it's for your own good.
Tips for prospective students Keep an open mind - people in college are going to be there for all sorts of reasons. Some for the education, some for the freedom, and some simply because it was expected. Surround yourself with positive people who are looking to make the most of their experience at Loyola. It will make your life there ten times more enjoyable.
In three sentences If you're looking for a raging party scene or a sunny campus, Loyola probably isn't the place for you. However, if you're interested in excellent professors, a massive variety of majors and minors, and a university that follows through with you on your eventual job hunt, Loyola would be a perfect fit. The administration truly cares about the students, and wants to make sure they end up living comfortably and happy with their investment in their education.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus PD is EVERYWHERE.
Greek Life Greek Life is quickly becoming a major part of campus. Frats and sororities don't actually have houses, but they just throw ragers in apartments.
Clubs and Activities There is everything under the sun extra-curricular wise here, including but not limited to, quidditch.
Great for these types of students Motivated, driven, city-loving.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Hit up the echo spot behind the IC!
Bang for the buck It's not cheap here, but you get your money's worth.
What to do for fun It's college! Go out, drink, have a good time. Disregard what people say about the party scene, it definitely exists.
Food and Dining Standard dorm food. It's not delicious, not disgusting either. Eating it on a daily basis will quickly make you sick of it though.
Dorm Life If you opt for a community-style dorm like Mertz or DeNobili, you will get more of the college experience than Simpson or San Francisco, however any dorm is worth it.
Academic Rigor This is no state school. Loyola is prestigious for a reason. The core is challenging and actually makes you learn. Around your sophomore year classes will begin to overlap. Loyola is difficult, it is, however, manageable.
Tips for prospective students Explore Chicago. Talk to people. Try new foods. All-in-all, try living a bit outside your comfort zone. Life starts when you do, especially in a world-class city like Chicago.
In three sentences Loyola is the perfect balance of everything you could want. Between hard coursework and fun parties, you learn to become a successful person. Enjoy an suburban feel to an urban setting and make the most out of what Loyola offers.

Bang for the buck Worth the value in education and name value.
What to do for fun Depends on the person, you are located in Chicago.
Food and Dining Below-average food quality but wide variety.

Academic Rigor Ample course load come with the same amount of work.
Tips for prospective students 1. Visit the school during the year. 2. Be sure that Loyola would fit your personality. 3. Understand that the focus must be on the education.
In three sentences Loyola give a student a rounded education. Also, they accommodate all learning abilities with their instructors. But Loyola does not give their students enough freedom and liberties that are expected of college students.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Loyola is located in Lake shore therefore, a simple jog by the shore is fun. In addition, there is a bus that transports student to Michigan Ave where students can shop, eat and life the city life to the fullest. There are also many clubs and activities students can join for fun.
Food and Dining Food is tiring after a while, although it was not good to begin with anyways. Meals are expensive and not worth all that money, one has to taste everything in order to figure out what taste good.
Dorm Life Due to Loyola's location, several dorm rooms have beautiful views which makes dorm life ten times better than in other colleges. Rooms are spacious and are provided with a bed, desk and a good-sized closet. Students need to be friendly and outgoing and floor mates will soon become friends.
Academic Rigor Loyola consist of Jesuit tradition rigorous academic studies. There are cores which are added to studies students need for chosen field of study. However it is a academic challenging school, involves a lot of studying and motivation.
Tips for prospective students Loyola is an expensive school and academic challenging. Students should study everyday, and not give up. They should seek help in tutoring centers, advisors and peers.
In three sentences Loyola, in addition to having a beautiful campus also has great professors. Since Loyola is a Jesuit school grounded in the liberal arts it wants students to become well-rounded individuals. It prepares students for their dream career.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Always respond quickly and do not take any chances
Greek Life Not much of a Greek Life at Loyola
Clubs and Activities The clubs are always fun and amazing, its the school funding for clubs that is hurting them.
What to do for fun For fun most students go to the Damen Student center that just opened up this year. It is a great place to hangout, play video games, watch TV, or just hang out. Also since the beach is right there, many students will go for a swim or just take in the ambiance of the scenery. Once they take a nice walk all that is left is taking a shuttle to downtown and having a night of fun with friends.
Food and Dining The food is sub-par at best. Not really the best dining food a school can offer but there are a variety of choices. However their new gourmet dining is amazing. Everything is made to order and tastes great and is available at reasonable prices.
Dorm Life I would not know, I am a commuter.
Academic Rigor The classes at Loyola are insane, the coursework needed to achieve solid A's are top notch.
Tips for prospective students I would say, take UNIV 101 seriously as it actually does help plan out the next 4 years of your life. Not only that, just don't party too hard as this school is really tough and rigorous.
In three sentences Loyola University is an amazing school, the classes offer a variety of challenges as well as insights into topics that are not usually thought about. The campus is always beautiful as it is right next to Lake Michigan with tons of beaches and parks so you are never going to be bored. All in all I love Loyola and recommend this school to anyone who can get in.
