Great for these types of students

Students who don't want to go away or are trying to save as much money as possible.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you fill out the financial aid in time and also register for classes as soon as it is possible. Sometimes classes fill up fast and you will be stuck with hours that are not convenient. Stay focused and don't skip classes, as it is very easy to get behind when you start slacking.

    Bang for the buck

It is definitely a great deal, with classes that cost under $100 per credit hour. I have worked part time making little about minimum wage and have been able to afford classes and books without taking out any student loans. Universities offer credit hours that sometimes cost more than triple the amount compared to Macomb Community College. It was nice for me to attend this school and not have to sweat worrying about student loans.

    Am enjoying being here

I attended a full year at Center Campus and a semester at South Campus. The school is clean and tidy. I personally don't enjoy being here that much, just for the fact that a community college doesn't really provide the college experience as compared to a University. At a University, there are thousands of people that live within a 10 mile radius and all have their own places and parties and gatherings on the weekends. At Macomb Community College, most of the students live with their parents still and usually don't have much going on during the weekdays or weekends. The good thing about this school is that its not as big as a campus and its easy to find your classes and not get lost. Faculty members are friendly and very helpful when you need them.

    Am learning a lot

I have learned a lot while attending this school. I have been going here for over a year and have been happy with all my instructors. The professors are friendly and helpful when you need information. The classes were not too easy or too difficult.

Great for these types of students

Macomb community college is a great school because it offers great classes for a much lower price as well as offering after school clubs, sports and activities. The campus is really pretty and there are trails for walking on and places the take a break in between classes. This is a good school for those who have a lower income or are paying their own way through school.

    Tips for prospective students

Even though your friends may think that it is cool to skip class, you really shouldn't. First of all, it is very disrespectful to your professor-no matter how boring you think they are. Also, either yourself, your parents or the government is paying for your schooling, so don't let them down-or yourself. It drives me crazy when I hear people talking about skipping or partying when I am trying so hard to put myself through school with no steady income--come on people you really need to shape up and get your priorities straightened out. The last thing that I will say is that parking at macomb can be quite tricky sometimes. Make sure that you give your self enough time before your classes so that you can find a parking spot-in other words, don't leave your house at the last minute and expect to be on time for your class. Lastly, watch your speed and make sure you park only in a parking spot, I know it sounds ridiculous but I have seen many kids get tickets for not doing that.

    Bang for the buck

If you are paying your own way through school like I am, this is the way to go.

    Am enjoying being here

I have really enjoyed attending Macomb, but sometimes the teachers make the classroom atmosphere quite dull. My advice would be to try and find out information on the professors before you sign up for their classes.

    Am learning a lot

You really learn a lot at college, just remember to study what you have learned occasionally.

Great for these types of students

Macomb isn't specifically for a single type of person. It's a cheaper alternative to a larger university, the only thing it lacks is the personal dorm rooms. Macomb welcomes great diversity!

    Tips for prospective students

I suggest you get referrals for teachers, either from friends or counselors. Also leave early, (not just the first day) depending on what lot your in, it can be very time consuming to find a spot-especially in winter. Register as early as possible, join a waitlist if need be, your chances are good.

    Bang for the buck

Macomb offers a significant amount of classes, on top of that is a beautiful campus. For a full-time student (12+ credit hours) it will cost you about $900. Universities have single classes that cost about that. Macomb is a good deal.

    Am enjoying being here

Macomb really has a great overall atmosphere. It's a comfortable, friendly place to be. The school isn't too large, nor too small, so students still have the opportunity to make friends.

    Am learning a lot

Several of the general ed classes at macomb seem to be slightly below average in terms of difficulty. Much of the class is a review from high school courses. Though teachers can be a hit or miss, you still have to work hard for a good grade.

Great for these types of students

People who do not have the finances for a university and students who slack in high school

    Tips for prospective students

Show up to class and always study because if you want to succeed the book will have to be your best friend.

    Bang for the buck

At Macomb a full time student will only have to pay 864 for 12 credit hours which is great. Other colleges tuition's are about 10 times more than Macomb

    Am enjoying being here

i enjoy the atmosphere people are friendly and easy to relate to since most of the student are from the same community.

    Am learning a lot

Yes the small classes make it easier for to study to get more help from teachers and ask questions.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't buy books unless you've been told you need to and moreover save your receipts.

    Bang for the buck

Be wary that they will withhold your Financial Aide access for as long as possible. This includes making your money only available in their on campus store the week before your class starts.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is very safe and parking is plentiful.

    Am learning a lot

While I prefer the more seasoned classical teachers. All my courses have had a rich amount of information in them. What you can learn really does warrant the credits you'll receive.

Great for these types of students

While attending you must look at ratemyprofessor.com before choosing your classes. Doing so, you will be allowing yourself to get the best teachers to serve your needs. All of the ratings are anonymous, so the students don't lie about the professors and their teaching abilities.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are looking to attend, make sure you go to one of the open houses that they hold each summer. It is a great way to see the campus, and meet some of the people involved around Macomb.

    Bang for the buck

All in all, Macomb is pretty inexpensive. This is one of the main reasons I chose to attend. Compared to Universities, it is a whole lot cheaper, and you are exposed to the same classes and teaching strategies. Some of the professors also work at Universities in the area as well.

    Am enjoying being here

I am enjoying my time here at Macomb. The campus is actually really pretty. It's so nice to go walking around outside between classes. It also seems like professors want you to meet new people, and make sure it happens within their classrooms.

    Am learning a lot

I have learned a lot while attending Macomb. Most of the teachers are energetic and passionate about the subject they are teaching. Most of the teachers find unique ways of keeping their students engaged in what is being taught, and make them learn the material that is being presented.

Macomb Community College has many clubs on campus for any interest and has two campuses making it easier to travel between different locations and activities.

    Food and Dining

I have never eaten at the Cafeteria, so I can't give a proper review of the food.

    Dorm Life

Macomb Community College rises above the expectations of the quality of education offered at a community college.

Great for these types of students

It great for any age or type of student - from continuing right after high school to going back after taking time off.

    Tips for prospective students

The teachers and councilors are great. Honestly, if you have a question, just go up and ask. They aren't as mean as everyone says.

    Bang for the buck

I feel I am getting the same education as my brother, who is at Michigan State and is paying more than triple I am.

    Am enjoying being here

I love being in a smaller atmosphere. Macomb is perfect for students, no matter what age, to get back into school without feeling the crazy college pressure.

    Am learning a lot

When being in a class of 30 kids instead of 300, the classes are more personal in the professor/teacher and easier to learn in and more is to be learned.

This college is great, I really rely on the tutoring that is offered on campus. Campus Safety

There are always campus police cars patrolling and there are emergency phones everywhere you look. Professors always keep you safe and inform you of changes whenever they occur.

    Bang for the buck

I chose MCC for their low tuition rate and transferability. Financial Aid here has proven to not be that great or helpful so far.

    What to do for fun

If you are involved in student activities, clubs, or sports, MCC has a lot to offer. If you do not engage yourself and seek out these opportunities, there is really nothing fun to do at South Campus, Center Campus always has something up their sleeve though.

    Food and Dining

There are multiple fast food places surrounding each campus, but only center campus has a cafeteria.

    Academic Rigor

The classes I have taken so far, with an exception of Biology, have not been hard, they just involve a lot of busy work.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to pay attention in class and put in the work outside of class. There is no way to get a good grade in college without going above and behind what is asked of you.

    In three sentences

I have gotten a decent education at MCC, the professors I have had have challenged me and done me well. The students attending this college are not the nicest or most motivated, but that makes me want to strive to do better.I would recommend MCC to anyone.

Great for these types of students

Those who are working full or part-time, those who can't afford much higher, those who can't take a full class load.

    Bang for the buck

It's and affordable and worthwhile alternative to a larger university.

    What to do for fun

Sit on a bench before class and people-watch. Some pretty interesting characters attend Macomb.

    Food and Dining

The food in the cafeteria is actually pretty good, and there are convenient vending machines all over the place, and they take cards!

    Academic Rigor

It honestly depends on the teacher, but I've found it to be pleasingly challenging.

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely go and check out the campus on your own, and walk around from building to building to get a feel for the campus. Despite the fact that it's beautiful and expansive, the campus can be confusing and intimidating for the first time, especially if it's your first day of college.

    In three sentences

Macomb is one of those places that surprises you with just how good of a college it is. While many pass it off as just a place for kids that either couldn't get into or afford real college, it is actually a really great place to transition into the college life. It is also a great place for those who have to work full time, as the class schedules are flexible and classes are offered all the time.

    Campus Safety

Macomb has their own campus police, so no need to worry about violent outbreaks.

Great for these types of students

Great for indecisive students, or those looking for classes where you're not 1 of 100.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

    none

    Bang for the buck

As I said before, Macomb is a great stepping stone. Classes are much cheaper than major universities, and most courses transfer with no problem. The professors are helpful, and the counselors are always there to help. I would reccomend it to anyone who isn't sure on their major senior year, or just wants to save a lot of money while gaining general education credits.

    What to do for fun

Macomb has many on campus activities, as well as a student center. You can join clubs or sign up for volunteer activites through the student center. A great program Macomb has is H.O.P.E macomb, a group of students who donate their time and efforts towards volunteer projects. It's very rewarding, and even gets you extra credit for some courses!

    Food and Dining

Macomb has a cafeteria but it's usually only open until 1 pm. It'd be a lot nicer if it stayed open longer. There's also a coffee shop in the library with snack availabe and more flexible hours.

    Dorm Life

    Commuter college

    Academic Rigor

Most professors I've had are fair on the homework, tests, and quizzes. E-mails and phone numbers were given to reach professors if help was needed. The majority of courses I took stuck true to what you're promised to learn. I'm not saying every class is a breeze. Some course take more effort than others, while some professors may be more difficult as well. Even so, I feel as if most classes have given me my money's worth.

    Tips for prospective students

Go to class. Do the homework. Though it's easy to fall into the temptation to skip, the best way to make the most of this experience is participating. With active attendance and a goal to drive you, Macomb Community College can be a great experience.

    In three sentences

Macomb Community College is a great stepping stone for undergraduate students not looking to break the bank at a major univesity. The classes are affordale and the small class sizes means the professors can devote more time to the student. Most classes at Macomb transfer with ease to most universities as well.

    Campus Safety

I usually always see campus police patrolling the campus, so safety has not been any issue, I think it is covered well.

    Greek Life

I came back to Macomb after leaving a university because of health problems, I was in greek life for 3 years and the greek life here is completely different from what I know. I was in a social greek organization Alpha Gamma Delta, and I was also in Phi Kappa Theta an honors fraternity, which Macomb does have and is a great group.

    Clubs and Activities

I use to love the student center but as far as I have seen with the new changes there doesn't seem to be great opportunitys. I just see students sitting around talking, when back in 2006 there were pool tables, foozball, food court, ping pong, etc. If they do still have those things then I have no idea where it was moved to.

Great for these types of students

Students who want to stay home and go to school and that live in the area, or for those students who want to go to a university but want to take general ed, classes so they are not spending an arm and a leg at the university.

    Bang for the buck

If your an individual who is looking to save some money whether it is to stay home or to get classes out of the way before you transfer then yes it is a good choice of school. If you plan to transfer I say to do so after the first year. Take as many classes as you can that work into your schedule so when you do actually go to a university you are saving money from getting other courses out of the way and have the ability to jump right into classes for your major/minor.

    What to do for fun

Weather permitting, walking around campus, it can be really nice, and of course a good work out.

    Food and Dining

The student center has changed since I went there my freshmen year and I liked it better then, than I do now. I'm sure I havent seen everything, but I prefered the older set up they had in 2006.

    Dorm Life

It is a community college, no dorms. Of course there are apartments near by, but it's not as easy of a process than when I went to a university.

    Academic Rigor

Basing on academics it really depends on the professor a student has. Some professors give more work than is necessary for the course and for students who have several other classes it takes away from learning. Not to say it's a bad school to learn at, it just really depends on who your professor is and how able to work in a reasonable amount of course work in respect to other students class and work schedules.

    Tips for prospective students

Community college can be great, especially those who want to stick close to home. However, I believe going to a university gives you more experience and opens the doors for actually meeting people and making new friends. To save money take your general classes at a community college and then transfer to a university after the first year.

    In three sentences

A good community college in the fact that is very close to my home and therefore the drive is quick. I do wish that there tutoring center was more organized and that academic advisors were better at explaining degree programs and transfer plans. Even when I asked to elaborate more I still left more confused than when I came in.

    Campus Safety

Macomb Community College has fantastic campus police enforcement. They constantly patrol around assuring your safety and you never need to worry about watching your back or if your car is going to get broken into--as these types of things never happen. Whether you need help or just some directory assistance, they are there.

    Clubs and Activities

This college offers tons of clubs and activities that will match anybody's needs. Whether you are looking to be on a sport's team or are interested in a journalist club, Macomb definitely has it. Research the college and see for yourself all that they have to offer.

    Bang for the buck

Macomb has hundreds of scholarships that they offer themselves to better help accommodate a student's financial status. They are quick and precise at filing things such as the fafsa form and even assisting one to help better understand the career path that they are looking for. There are tons of counselors and advisers there to help one do this. They have hundreds beyond thousands of new, used and rent-able text books to help better meet anybody's financial position.

    What to do for fun

There are plenty of extracurricular activities around the area. Whether it is a sport or even an unusual area of interest, it is here. There is hockey, golf courses, basketball, soccer, baseball, football, volleyball, fishing tournaments, a variety of movie theaters, shopping centers including malls and thousands of strip malls, and even places such as CJ Barrymoore's, Dave and Buster's and Chuck E. Cheese.

    Food and Dining

Maocmb county is a great place to come to find something to eat. From small family diners all the way to 5 star restaurants that require one to be formally presentable, this town has it all. Anybody will fall in love with at least one restaurant around here, let alone that this is one of the largest counties in the US.

    Dorm Life

Macomb Community College does not have a dorm life. This is not a university, just a town college. If you were to move nearby, the housing, apartments and the area as a whole in general is a beautiful place to live and study. There are plenty of shopping centers and special places of interest (including the well-known Lake St. Clair) that will satisfy anyone who decides to live here.

    Academic Rigor

This college may just be a community college but it definitely has its challenging courses. The professors are form all over, including some of the most challenging universities, so do not expect this to be a simple breeze. Without a doubt a university will be more challenging, but this is a great place to grasp a feel for the college life and to create a stable base for one's self before continuing his or her education.

    Tips for prospective students

Before entering any college, know what you are in for. This is not high school and some classes may require you to spend 100 hours a week (particularly a 6 week summer course). Also, before launching into a preferred study of interest, just take the general requirements--if you change your mind about what you are studying, those prerequisites did not just get flushed down the toilet as they can be utilized as prerequisites for another program.

    In three sentences

For a community college, I believe Macomb Community College to be a superb educational experience. They provide quality and accurate educational experiences, have all races and ages possible throughout the world known that attend and have an excellent and universal teaching faculty--consisting of full time professors to an experienced and vast range of university professors. Whether one is satisfied with a 2 year associates degree or is planning to transfer to a university and prolong their education to earn that highly recognized PhD in their field of choice, Macomb Community College has an amazing list of programs and certifications that are available that will give anybody the opportunity of a lifetime in order to satisfy their educational needs.

Great for these types of students

Those trying to save money on tuition cost and transfer to another college afterwords. All credits should transfer to any school you're interested in getting a degree from. You could end up saving tens of thousands of dollars.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

I don't know of any traditions or locations other than classrooms on campus. Everyone seems to just to class and leave class. Not a large university.

    Bang for the buck

It is the cheapest college anywhere in the area and almost every credit will transfer to most colleges. You can receive financial aid. Sometimes you can get additional funds after tuition even with a pell grant.

    What to do for fun

Nothing to do for fun. It's a basic community college. Do fun things after class.

    Food and Dining

No food on campus. Vending machines have a decent variety. I like the fruit snacks.

    Dorm Life

There is no living quarters on campus. Royal Oak is the nearest city that is worth mentioning as a great place to live. Warren is a pretty boring city.

    Academic Rigor

The professors there are hit or miss. Some love what they teach and are great at what they do, taking care of each student who puts in effort. Others hate their jobs and seem not to care about the students as much as they do getting out of the class as soon as possible.

    Tips for prospective students

Get any credits you can done as soon as possible here. It will save you thousands of dollars to complete your undergrad courses and transfer. It is great that most credits transfer to most colleges and it is the cheapest tuition out there.

    In three sentences

It seems to be understaffed with too large of a student body. The courses are more difficult to complete than other community colleges because of the lack of attention students receive individually. Many students in the area accept these flaws because of the relatively low cost.

You definitely get more bang for the buck at this community college. Their technical and culinary programs work in cohesion with the industry leaders of their perspective fields. The Automotive Technician Program for example works side by side with General Motors to turn out the next generation of engineers and technicians with hands on experience and lectures and seminars given by representatives. The classes are designed so that at the end of each semester, students are definitely able to retain the information that they have been studying.

I've never had any problems with feeling safe at Macomb. Patrol is always out and visit each building often to see how students are doing. There are also phone lines that are located through out campus is an emergency arises and need help quickly.

    Greek Life

Macomb does have a greek life. While I am not so sure what they are all about, their are posters and information about them near the bookstore on campus. If interested, I suggest you go their and check it out or as any teacher. They will get you the information.

    Clubs and Activities

I'm not sure where to begin. Macomb has more clubs and activities than I can even begin to describe. I'd have to say that the most important and rewarding one is H.O.P.E., a club based on volunteer basis. There is nothing more rewarding that helping others in need. The school takes pride in this organization and has the most members of any club.

Great for these types of students

Macomb is great for everyone. Students come from everywhere and are all different ages. Some still in high school and some returning to college. Macomb won't turn you down. They want everyone to succeed.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Macomb is great and students are always surprised! My last semester at Macomb, I had walked into the building to witness the start of a flash mob dance that was to raise awareness about the effects of bullying. Macomb also supports everyone, no matter what your race, ethnicity, and beliefs. So everyone once in a while, the school joins together and will encourage their students to all wear the same color for the day! They want all their students to be equal and what a good way to show it.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria food is well, cafeteria food. Although, Macomb has a hidden restaurant that many students don't know about. Since Macomb has a degree in Culinary Arts, in one of our buildings their is a mock dinning area. It is put on by the Culinary students and they cook your food! What a cool idea! You can take all your materials and study while they cook you a nice lunch!

    Dorm Life

    Academic Rigor

Macomb encourages students to take responsibilty for their school work, classes, and behavior. They encourage their students to be leaders. They want students who will demonstrate their skills, help others, and be successful.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't slack off! Just because this is a community college, it doesn't mean these classes are easy. Many professors have previously taught at universities and switched because they enjoy the more personable setting of a community college. The way the professors teach the material and their expectations of their students is not any less than what they expected at a university level. Pay attention and work hard! If you don't, you are the one cheating yourself of an education.

    In three sentences

Macomb Community College is a well rounded school that is dedicated to providing an education. Their staff is friendly and professors are willing to go the extra mile to ensure that their students understand the subject matter being taught. Great for these types of students

This type of institution is great for students looking to save money on their first two years of college, and who plan on transferring later on down the road.

    Bang for the buck

Macomb definitely gives you the most for your dollar. Most of the professors have once taught at big name universities or have worked in the fields that you are looking into, and now have come back to give you the experience you need.

    What to do for fun

Macomb has awesome opportunities for students. I am involved currently with Student Life and Leadership. This group on campus provides opportunities to travel in and out of state for almost unheard of prices. Last year I got to stay overnight in Mackinac with transportation for $25. There are also sororities, sports, student activity center, and volunteering opportunities. If you don't feel any of these fit your personality you can start your very own student organization for free!

    Food and Dining

Macomb Just got a brand new cafe area! all newly renovated, and the food is delicious. It is great because I can grab a bite on my way to class.

    Dorm Life

Does not apply because Macomb doesn't have dorms. I commute everyday and live at home.

    Academic Rigor

People sometimes don't give Macomb enough credit! Even though it is a community college, some classes can be difficult. Having said that, I took my basic classes here (English 101, psych 101, etc.) so, most of the classes weren't as difficult as most would think.

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely look at your financial abilities. In my family I have three sisters and a brother so, for me I chose community college for the first two years to save my family some debt down the road. Studying is the key to success. Make a schedule and make sure that school is a priority. I work thirty hours a week and am a full time student, and am still able to be successful. It's all about priorities.

    In three sentences

Macomb was one of the best choices I made since graduating high school. It is so close so that I can work and go to school to pursue my dreams! I am so thankful for my community college.

    Campus Safety

If your a criminal, this college may not be for you. The campus is always crawling with cops! This is a good thing for people who value their safety and who have morals. The cops who patrol the campus are always very nice and accommodating, until you give them a reason to not be. This is the reason why incidents of assault or theft are very rare at Macomb.

    Bang for the buck

This college definitely has a bang for your buck. A cost of $2,000 a semester, for 14 credits give or take, can be expected. This beats paying $20,000 at a traditional 4-year university. This provides the student the opportunity to save up for the 4-year university once they transfer. saving $36,000 a year taking equivalent classes certainly provides the student with financial freedom during and after college.

    What to do for fun

Macomb has many opportunities to get involved. These include study groups, sports, or even providing help to those in need. During the weekend though, students need a break from the daily hassle of academics. This is when the area's attractions such as hookah lounges, clubs, movie theatres, malls, and many others are sought out. A Friday night with friends to the mall can be a very fun and healthy way to enjoy your afternoon.

    Food and Dining

This campus is right next to the food capital of Macomb, Hall road. In this 2 mile stretch there are about 20 restaurants. Red Lobster, Andiamos, Chipotle, any kind of food you can name, they have. This is always an excellent way to burn a couple of hours waiting for your next class.

    Dorm Life

This is a commuter school. So unfortunately, there are no dorms. However, during the daytime the campus is hopping with new faces and maybe some familiar ones too. This is your chance to meet some new friends. Maybe study for an upcoming test or go out-to-eat, meeting new people is always such a joy.

    Academic Rigor

I think this college has excellent teachers who are tough but also caring. It is not an unusual occurrence for a teacher to tutor a student one on one. The teachers understand that the quality of the student reflects their life's work. They therefore take pride in producing bright intellectuals. The teachers also understand the difference between memorizing a chapter vs. actually understanding a chapter. This is relevant on their exams. The exams test on a understanding and practical knowledge of concepts. As my one teacher always says, college is to teach you how to learn, so that you are able to learn any information if given a note book. He deserves a standing ovation, this is what Macomb stands for.

    Tips for prospective students

It is important to be academically motivated. It is easy to lose focus due to full-time work, and old friends. Staying on top academically will provide you with the ability to transfer to a 4-year university.

    In three sentences

I would rate this college an 8 out of 10. This is a community college that provides a second chance for students who did not excel in high school. It is also a financially smart way of taking your prereq classes.

    Campus Safety

Macombs Campus is very safe. The Campus police are always larking about. During all hours of the day there will be a minimum of two friendly campus police officers. However after the sandy hook shooting, i think that security is going to crack down even more.

    Clubs and Activities

The Clubs and activities are endless here at Macomb. For more information about the clubs and activities the concealers in H building of south campus are really friendly, and love to help!

Great for these types of students

Great for any person, all ages, races, and religions. If you live in South east Michigan I would highly recommend these school. Macomb packs a huge education bang for their buck.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

I have only been attending macomb for a year, and I have night classes cause I am still in high school. I wouldn't really know to much about any traditions or cool locations on campus, however I know that the potential is there.

    Bang for the buck

Macombs cost can not be beat. When i first looked at advancing my education cost was a very big factor. Macomb seemed to have a fairly low course cost. I was kind undecided at first because I didn't know if I would loose the quality of my education. I was proved wrong this facility is all around very well shaped, the educational offerings are awesome, and the staff makes everything ten times better!

    What to do for fun

Macomb is loaded with clubs, and activities in which more details can be found online, or on campus.

    Food and Dining

Macomb has a cafeteria, I personally have only been there one time. The food was pretty tasty! and didn't cost an arm or a leg. not to mention that vending machines can be found all over the campus.

    Dorm Life

Macomb does not have Dorms, or any on campus housing.

    Tips for prospective students

Macomb is a very positive tobacco free campus, so my first tip would be to keep that flow rolling! I would personally say make sure to buy your books from Macomb's book store. I say this because Macomb`s courses are set up around those books.

    In three sentences

Macomb Community College is the best College in south east Michigan! Cost are cheap but you still get an awesome education. The teachers are super outgoing and will sit down with you one on one

    Campus Safety

I personally always feel safe going to school. There are plenty of security officers coupled with the fact that Macomb partner's with the police departments.

    Greek Life

There are some Fraternities like the Honors fraternity.

    Clubs and Activities

Good recreation centers, ping-pong tournaments at one campus, a good amount of clubs to join in, and a really great career opportunity set-up. Macomb holds many job fairs as well as a place on their web page to sign up to their exclusive listings pages.

Great for these types of students

Great for students who are married, have children, work often, are looking for something less expensive, not sure about a major, switching majors, are planning to transfer, have some definite goal.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Not too sure about this, but it is easy to build a tight nit bond with the Professors here.

    Bang for the buck

Best 'band for the buck'. The classes at Macomb are very inexpensive, yet you get tutoring that's offered in the Library, great amenities, and still get as much knowledge as anywhere else.

    What to do for fun

There are a ton of Clubs to join, recreation centers, and I personally like talking with new people on campus. Most of the students are pretty friendly.

    Food and Dining

Macomb has a great Student Center with a good food menu, plenty of vending machines all around campus, coffee and tea carts ect. If all of that still doesn't do it, there are plenty of places as far as directly across the street away.

    Dorm Life

Since Macomb is a Community College, there is no Dorm living available.

    Academic Rigor

I've attended a Major University for a number of years (and still must go back), and Macomb plays on the same course as the big boys. Many of the Professors also teach at a University, or have their Masters and Ph. D's.

    Tips for prospective students

Talk with your Counselor's, often! Be at ease, but make sure to have a diligent effort. Follow through with your commitments, financial aid, classes, designated major requirements for courses, and only try what you know you can handle (any time you're not sure about your load, it's probably too much).

    In three sentences

Macomb Community College takes all the right and necessary measures for students. Whatever a students' (of any age) expectations of going to college, Macomb ensures a warm feeling and hits on all possibilities of expectation. Although community colleges can sometimes be an 'underrated' option, I believe that one should feel a sense of pride about the learning institution they attend and Macomb does just this.

The Campus is in a relatively good area! I feel very safe at Macomb!

    Bang for the buck

Macomb's tuition is very reasonable and affordable!

    Food and Dining

The food at Macomb is not what I would call great.... Although, they do have what is called the Hub, to dine at.

    Dorm Life

There is no dorms at macomb.

    Academic Rigor

The academic view point depends on what classes you are enrolled in, and what campus you go to. In my opinion, south campus has better professors and more educational resources, such as study groups and tutors by the way the libraries are set up. However, all in all, the academics at macomb are very well taught!

    Tips for prospective students

I would recommend that Macomb students take college seriously. Often, students tend to slack off in community colleges, because they feel that these instuitions are frowned upon. However, study hard and this way you increase your chances of being accepted into an university later on!

    In three sentences

Macomb is a great starting point for students. The college provides a great educational system at a low tuition. However, the only down fall to Macomb, is the living at home aspect.

Macomb has its own police department. They will respond to a call within 2-3 minutes and, often, you'll see police officers walking around campus. It is extremely well lit in the evenings and it is a really safe, comforting environment.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

My friends and I like to go around campus and sing to people in random buildings.

    Bang for the buck

The prices at Macomb are quite reasonable compared to a big university. You get the 4-year college education for a much cheaper price!

    What to do for fun

For fun, I like to work out, watch movies, or read. I also love to swim, so I got a job as a lifeguard and swim intructor. For the most part, I work and study but there are times when I do try to go out with friends to the movies or mall.

    Food and Dining

The food in the student center is actually quite delicious! It also is extremely healthy. This is so great because I've really been trying to eat healthy and work out so this gives me extra help when I'm away from home in avoiding eating fast food.

    Dorm Life

There aren't dorms because it's a commuter school. I live with my parents, but that isn't so bad. After all, many people live with their parents their entire life, so an extra year at home wasn't really a big deal.

    Academic Rigor

This school, although a community college, is quite challenging. I feel pushed and pressured to do my best by my professors and fellow scholars. I love it!

    Tips for prospective students

Regardless of you situation, make the best of whatever school or position you are in. I never planned to go to Macomb, but because of financial reason I had no other choice. At first, I was pretty disappointed, but once I started and gave a positive attitude things really started to look up. Make sure that you take every advantage for your education. It's okay if you don't know what you want to do, you'll figure it out. Keep a positive mind and put your best foot forward! You'll go far!

    In three sentences

Macomb Community College is an interesting place to learn. I never expected to meet such a wide variety of people and personalities. I love this school, and am glad to have attended there.

    Clubs and Activities

This school offer a wide range of activities from student life who sets up the DYI self activities or the Phi Cappa honor students. The game room is also very fun which features 5 pool tables and video game counsels for students. There is a little bit for everyone.

Great for these types of students

This college is great for students who are unsure about their major or field they plan to get into. Also great for students who want to save some money and plan on transferring later down the road.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

One thing I love about Macomb is the Student life activities that the school offers. Some of the great activities that i have done through this program include DYI cupcakes. That activity allowed us to bake and decorate our own cupcakes. During the month of December in spirit of Christmas they allow us to construct our own Gingerbread houses. The gingerbread houses were a blast not to mention messy.

    Bang for the buck

I give Macomb 4 stars for this category. It has saved me so much money compared to going to a 4 year University. It is a great start because it is a fraction of the cost compared to big University's. They offer many programs and certificates for many options for enrolling.

    What to do for fun

The most fun thing to do at Macomb would be going to Partridge creek outdoor shopping mall which is right next door to Macomb. It is a great way to relieve some school stress or even get your mind off those crazy finals.

    Food and Dining

The campus has decent food. The skylight cafe has a variety of breakfast sandwiches in the morning ranging from Jimmy deans to Bob Evans. What I recommend is eating at Panera or starbucks which are right across from the campus.

    Dorm Life

Macomb has no dorms because it is a community college.

    Academic Rigor

I would give Macomb Community College a 4 on a scale of 1 to 5 because the teachers do put an effort to help. They always offer office hours and personal email for students to easily contact them. They even recommend students going to the learning center and signing up for tutoring.

    Tips for prospective students

My tips for prospective students would be to try hard from the beginning. Keep focused on your goal and even when you feel like giving up just remember it will all be worth it when you have your degree.

    In three sentences

Macomb Community college offers all my program for a fraction of the cost of Universitys. The class sizes are small and reasonable so professor is able to answer more questions. They have a great tutoring program with great tutors ready to help.

    Food and Dining

There is a cafe and a few other cafes on campus, but I never really ate there enough to fairly rate them.

    Dorm Life

There is no dorms, this is a community college

    Tips for prospective students

I did not do this for the first four years, but I recently discovered this website and have used it ever since then. Go to ratemyprofessor.com before starting a class and look at the reviews. This method has saved me from taking classes that I would have most likely regretted and possibly dropped. The students are honest on this website and tell you everything from teaching methods, personality of the teacher, and the way they grade. Make sure you go to your couselors and advisors, but be careful it seems like a lot of them don't know what they are talking about sometimes. I've had some tell me I was only one class away from something and I take that class and didn't need that class and was really three classes or so away from graduating.

    In three sentences

Macomb Community College was a comfortable trasition from high school to college. Majority of the last five years I have attended this college has been positive experiences. Although, like most schools there are a few teachers too really be aware of and avoid is possible.

Feel safe! One of the most impressive colleges I've been to that has their security up to date. The whole area is always well-lighted and recorded. There are plenty of emergency phones at campus, especially in the parking lot. There are always a few patrols in the area to safeguard your car/ or motorcycle. Very low criminal activity. The campus is very efficient at acknowledging area(s) of threat and notifying staff/ students by text or email.

    Bang for the buck

Great prices/ affordable college to attend.

    What to do for fun

There are many academic and fan clubs you can join. The school also holds theatre performances you can attend with your friends and family.

    Food and Dining

They have a small cafeteria with a food/drink bar by the J Building entrance (where the library is). They have great on-the-go sandwiches and drinks at affordable prices. The café staff are friendly.

    Academic Rigor

I took the COMPASS testing prior to enrollment of classes. The test has helped me pick the right classes for me. Some classes are more complex than others, but the professors give reasonable time for students to learn and they are always willing to help.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't hesitate to ask questions! Macomb has a variety of professionals to help you achieve your career goal(s). If grades are big to you, you get what you give; so give all you have!

    In three sentences

    Campus Safety

There is a lot of security and police men on campus. Generally, our biggest problems are petty crimes and fender benders (parking can get a little crazy, be observant when you are walking through the lots).

    Greek Life

We don't have dorms so people don't get too crazy about greek stuff.

    Clubs and Activities

We have some, but they are mostly informal, or not overly serious for the most part.

Great for these types of students

Commuters trying to get in their gen eds, continuing education, or people just taking a class or two along with work to broaden their skill set.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

    We don't have many.

    Bang for the buck

Very cheap for good quality teaching.

    What to do for fun

There are quite a few clubs and groups and random entertainment and non-class education experiences that are interesting.

    Food and Dining

On campus cafeteria is better than most community colleges, and center campus has a little cafe that opens in the buildings farther from the cafeteria around lunch time. Lots of vending machines. There are quite a few restaurants within a couple miles. Not much more is on campus, or what I would consider within walking distance for people who are attending classes.

    Dorm Life

    No dorms.

    Academic Rigor

A lot of classes have what I would call an average acceptable workload. A few are mostly in class, with much less homework. But there have been several of my classes, ESPECIALLY the summer classes, that involve beyond the amount of work that should be required for a class. You do learn a lot, though.

    Tips for prospective students

Come early enough to walk from a more distant parking lot, or participate in the crazy scramble for spots in the five minutes before class and run to class if you manage to grab a spot as someone else leaves. Also, there aren't lockers for most students, so be prepared to carry everything if you don't have a car or don't have time to walk back to yours between classes.

    In three sentences

A very diverse school, in both education, attendees, and culture. Good bang for your buck, as the education quality is most often very good, and the school is cheaper. Could really use a better parking solution.

MCC is a great school and helps you start a path to a long term career. I like that most classes can be taken online since I also work full time through school. I think they are a great starter school and prepare you very well for a four year university.

They have a Walking Dead club...never been but it's popular.

    Bang for the buck

I love the buy back program with books. Great for extra money, but if you can't afford to buy in the beginning renting is a good option. It's very affordable and they give you a sufficient amount of time to return.

    What to do for fun

Student Life is great!!!! They always have great activities for students everyday weekday, literally every weekday. Some are fun some are about career services. But it's always interacting.

    Food and Dining

The good is okay, it's not bad but it's not the best. The MUG caf© is great though, it gets busy but never to crowded. It's located in the library so there's always people studying at the sitting area.

    Dorm Life

    It's a Community College

    Academic Rigor

Please keep your G.P.A above a 2.0. Not even a 1.99 will get by. They put you on probation for one semester, and if you don't make the grade, it's cut off. And honestly, they don't want to talk about it any more after that until your G.P.A is up.

    Tips for prospective students

When you first enroll, stay on top of your classes and financial aid. Sometimes when your financial aid doesn't go through in time they drop all of your classes (luckily they send a notice each time) and you need to start all over when most classes are full. When calling about Fin. Aid have all your info ready because they like to speed through calls.

    In three sentences

They are very affordable. Many resources are provided for the students to do the best they can. It gives the feeling of a real university.

    Bang for the buck

At this campus, I am actually able to take classes that I want without worrying so much about it being a waste of money. For example, I love art but I cannot pursue it as a degree, but the cost of the classes allowed me to get the experience of an art class without an insane amount of sacrifice.

    What to do for fun

I haven't done anything on campus for fun.

    Food and Dining

There aren't very many great food options. The food is decent. Many of the dishes are overpriced for their taste. There are a few reasonable dishes. The coffee shop in the library (on South Campus) is pretty good!

    Dorm Life

    There is no housing available.

    Academic Rigor

I've been to a large university and I feel the class load is pretty much the same, because of the standards set for all schools. The professors can be more forgiving and you don't have to memorize everything in order to do well on a final. They test you on your understanding rather than your memorization.

    Tips for prospective students

Talk with other students and form study groups, especially with the tough classes. Study groups can help make it seem like less of a chore.

    In three sentences

You're allowed to find yourself here and be adventurous with courses because the cost isn't as expensive as most schools. You're allowed to make mistakes here with less financial loss than most schools. I haven't had a class with more than 30 students, and I feel it helps me focus.

I've never once had a problem, and I haven't heard of many bad things. The only real problems are people who steal things, but it's easy to prevent that just don't leave your things behind!

Great for these types of students

people struggling with school, people who have been out of school for too long, people who like an organized course, people who enjoy being more technical (left-brained)

    Bang for the buck

Great teachers who teach you to the ropes for very cheap, and a job is almost guaranteed if you're a driven and well liked individual.

    Food and Dining

There's plenty of fast food around the college, if you prefer that stuff. But the cafes around campus have great food, although it's all overpriced. But I think that's a constant at most schools.

    Dorm Life

There are no dorms, so this doesn't really apply.

    Academic Rigor

I came from a tough school with a lot of experience, and while college life is more difficult in comparison to high school, the college does a good job of making sure you're prepared â or even over-prepared â for all your tests. They give you the formulas for success but studying and practicing is up to you! I've learned a lot of things at a pretty slow pace at first, and with the professor speeding up in the end of the semester â but it's not like they don't prepare you for the speed up.

    Tips for prospective students

Talk to your professors, go to class everyday and care about learning and doing your work! It's the Triforce of doing great in school and finding a great job in your field later on. Joining a club or a study group will help a lot too! Take initiative and do what you can, get to know your program advisor and take charge of your life!

    In three sentences

The staff is very caring in helping you complete school and find a job. They focus on everyone equally; including special needs people, poc, lgbt, and older people who've been out of school for a while. They are always willing to help and spend time outside of class to help you along.

    What to do for fun

Don't go to the game room because all you will find are old ping pong tables and beat up billiards tables. Stick to the books and have fun at home.

    Food and Dining

I would never go to the cafeteria at macomb. I don't know what the food is like but it is the headquarters for the odd balls to hang out.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you talk to a counselor and try to take classes that will be useful towards a specific career. It is easy to take classes that will not be benefitial in the long run.

    In three sentences

It is the top rated community college in Michigan. I think that it deserves that statistic because the school is a great place to start college and the faculty is for the most part great. The facilities are nice and there are plenty of classes and programs to choose from.

Fairly good programs depending what area you are in. I suggest them for mechatronics, electronics technology, and alternative energy. The tuition is fairly low, though fees seem to abound.

    What to do for fun

There are a number of clubs to take part in thankfully. My favorites being the Anime club, Geeks United, and the 8 bit gaming club.

    Food and Dining

The food is okay but the area that sells things closes at 2pm and is not open at all during summer hours.

    Dorm Life

There is no dorms in Macomb.

    Academic Rigor

My rating is based largely on math classes, which is what I have the most of. I am taking calculus for a second time and wanted to share about the math here. The first time I took it the material being taught was not what was being tested, and with the exception of two people out of the thirty three we started with, everyone failed. Half of those students are in the one I am currently in. This class uses an unusual method, namely you teach yourself math using youtube videos by PatrickJMT and doing work sheets. Coming to class is part of your grade though, and you will be given a group worksheet to do while in class.

    Tips for prospective students

Under the current students menu you can use the schedule planner to create schedules based on the classes you want and will be able to add breaks where you need to. having found this made it much simpler to schedule my classes and reduced how much time it took me to find something that lined up.

    In three sentences

Macomb has an amazing program for mechatronics, and one of the few programs for electronics technology that I have seen. General classes are not offered as much as would be hoped, especially during summer semesters. All in all the school has been an improvement over Oakland Community College.

Great for these types of students

This college is great for ALL students! Whether you are fresh out of highschool and need a few classes before applying to a major university, or a returning student who has been out of classes a while.

    Bang for the buck

You will be getting a quality education for the least possible dollar. They have the best programs in the state and you will not be paying the outrageous fee's of a private college.

    What to do for fun

Being that the college is so close to everything you can find much to do within 10-15 minutes at any given time. If you just need a quick release there are two malls within 5 minutes and a bowling alley right across the street!

    Food and Dining

I am not aware of a cafeteria in Macomb, the student center has snacks and there are vending machines and sometimes food carts in some buildings. The college is so close to ALL kinds of dining, whever you are coming from you can pick up food on the way there or home.

    Dorm Life

I am not familiar with any on campus housing, or off campus housing hosted by Macomb. Stay at home with your parents for as long as possible, they are a fabulous support system when school and challenging classes get the best of you!

    Academic Rigor

There are classes that are easier than others, no doubt. However, you will need to study and read over the material in order to succeed. Just because this is a community college you do not get to just skate by. Please take the time to use the tutors, library and other classmates as tools of help.

    Tips for prospective students

You will want to make sure you take your placement tests sooner rather than later, the faster you can be placed in your classes the better. Any help you need do not be afraid to go to the academic and advsing office, they offer advice on classes, and are extremly helpful even if you've been going to the college for years.

    In three sentences

Macomb is great for individual attention from Professors. The class sizes are not intimidating. You will succeed only if you put your mind to the work.

    Academic Rigor

If you're a serious student and you don't slack off you should be just fine.

    Tips for prospective students

DONT SIGN UP FOR THE ONE CARD! It's nice to be able to buy books with financial aid but all of your financial aid money will go on the card, and you have to pay $20 to replace it if it's lost or stolen. I know a lot of people who've had problems because they don't tell you that signing up for it is OPTIONAL, they can't legally make you do it to get your financial aid. You will get e-mails telling you to sign up--just don't and you'll receive your refund money in the form of a check. Sign up as soon as you can to get the classes you want, they fill up fast. Put yourself on a waitlist if you have to, I've never been waitlisted and not gotten into a class, even when I was 7th on the list. ALWAYS check ratemyprofessor.com for your teacher. I have over 70 credits here and in that time I've had some amazing teachers and some truly awful ones who had no idea how to teach or simply didn't care.

This schools not all that easy. Some people think that colleges are like a higher level of high school. well this school can definitely change your mind. they do provide students with free tutors! take advantage of these opportunities that this school offers, they wont leave you hanging! teachers care! a lot actually! i was told in high school that the teachers in college aren't going to care. and they did , the teachers at this school love their jobs, its refreshing to see that, they'll teach their classes thoroughly answer questions and then tell you some cool facts you wont find in the book!

    Tips for prospective students

Sit in the front row! Pay attention all the time! that way the teacher will connect with you better. In my past iv noticed that when I pay attention and answer questions it almost feels like I was the only student in that class. take your own notes! use different colored pens, it helped me remember things. and also do your homework! I'm not very smart however I tried and I was definitely learning a lot more than the other students and that my friend is the ultimate goal when attending college. get your financial aid done, if you have questions or need help they have have an area just for financial aid where you can go to to get your answers. also they do have a page called Oasis where you could pick up scholarships for your major specifically for that school.
