Categories Comments Great for these types of students City lifestyle with a home-like feel campus to come back to at night.
Tips for prospective students Visit the college before you make your final decision, and talk to current students here to see real opinions.
Bang for the buck The education is great and that's what you're really paying for. It is an expensive school though. The rooms are nice, good size for dorms. They do give out many scholarships though for various reasons.
Am enjoying being here The campus is beautiful and the location is great. The best city in the world, New York City, is your backyard only a 30 min subway ride away. The activities on campus unfortunately aren't in surplus. Clubs are prevalent but not very extensive here. The food isn't the best!
Am learning a lot The education is fantastic on an individual level in that you won't fall between the cracks here. Classes are small and the student to teacher ratio is outstanding for a college. You get to know your fellow students and teacher on a personal level which is a huge benefit in earning a degree. You will learn so many things here, because the classes are endless! They have a great range of classes from Physics to Bioengineering to the History of Rock & Roll! It is truely an experienced education.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Outgoing, OPTIMISTIC, sporty, education-majors who make friends easily and REALLY want to be near the city.
Tips for prospective students I suggest that if you are extremely eager to get to New York city, but don't know how and don't live in a place with good access to it, you should look into this school. However, that desire has to be very, very high on your list of priorities, or it really just isn't worth it. Also, in order to be happy here, you have to be very outgoing and make friends easily, as people are very extroverted but not very eager to go out and make new friends. Most people on campus are athletic, so that will help you fit in more. Again, if location isn't one of the very top priorities in you college decision-making processes, don't come here. I know quite a few people who have transfered or want to, so you should be willing to make the sacrifice of dealing with a lot of unnecessary situations in order to get to the city, if you make Manhattan your choice. The teachers in the education program are great, so if teaching is what you want to do and you want the opportunity and culture of the city, don't rule this school out. Also, there are hardly any out-of-state students, so if you come from out of state, you will be a small minority.
Bang for the buck 3 1/2 The price is high, in my opinion, and though you are in an excellent area (in a great neighborhood, so conveniently close to the city), the price isn't quite worth it. I feel I'm getting a very good education and I love being able to visit the city. I also have a nice room and my building is well-maintained. However, I am forced to pay for a mandatory dining plan, which I barely ever use. They also have a spring consolidation process in which students who are currently without a roommate have to find someone else without a roommate to consolidate with (ie. one of you has to move in with the other). The only other two options are to be forced to move out of your room into someone else's who doesn't have a roommate or pay over $1500 to remain as a single. I really can't understand the point of this other than to make more money.
Am enjoying being here Unfortunately, due to extreme weaknesses in administrative and policy-related aspects of the college, my experience here has been much less than enjoyable. It is extremely hard to find correct information about policies, and no one seems to know exactly what the real rules are. The policies that you do find out about are sometimes ridiculous. I've had terrible problems, especially, with guest policy and residence life. There seem to be unwritten rules about guest policy, that even the handbook, residence life, and student life meeting don't tell you. Also, the resident director I had to deal with during one guest problem was extremely unprofessional and unhelpful. The security is terrible and they only check IDs, seemingly, on a whim. Each security guard seems to have a different idea of how to handle guest passes and whether or not you have to show them your ID before entering the building. I have had a very high number of unnecessary and stressful situations to endure, already, this year. They have a lot of work to do in terms of determining regulations and establishing better school-wide communication.
Am learning a lot My professors have been really excellent, especially my the those in my education program. They are extremely experienced and caring people with so much to offer. One of my professors, for example, has had decades of experience as a teacher, principal, and as head of education for the Catholic school he worked at. Every single one of my education professors this semester have had years and years of experience both as educators and as leaders in their school system. I feel extremely confident that my teacher know what they are talking about. They are also very accessible and care about each individual student. I am learning so much about education from people I trust.`

Categories Comments Clubs and Activities there are a ton of clubs and activities to participate in. the student activities center likes to keep the students busy and have plenty of trips, shows, museums, or just an adventure to china town available and set up for any student that wants to go. the clubs and activities are displayed at the beginning of each semester, and you can join any of them at that time.
Bang for the buck manhattan college has excellent alumni connections. they offer mentor programs and the career fairs allow many students to make connections to companies. even though the equipment and the food may not be up to your high standards, you'll learn a ton, and be able to make connections, lifelong friends, and have a great experience.
What to do for fun there are always activities going on on campus, as well as in the city. a weekly schedule of events/activities is available all over campus, and every saturday there is a trip to the city. intramural teams are a blast to play on, and there is always a game to go see. the bronx zoo is fairly close-by bus- and free admission on wednesdays. otherwise, it may be fun to study and do homework?
Food and Dining the food has dramatically increased from previous years, however there is still room for improvement. the 4 dining halls offer a good selection, but are only open weekdays. there is only one choice for weekend dining, so selection is greatly reduced. however, the managers are striving to make dining experiences better, and if you request something, they try to make it happen as soon as possible, and respond to your questions.
Dorm Life some dorms are roomier than others- chrysostom has small rooms but for an incoming freshman, it was the best housing, in my opinion. i keep in touch with all of my floor-mates and the doors are always open. everyone is a freshman within the building (with ra's as the exception), so we were all in the same situation and we could just walk down the hall to find someone to hang out. jasper has similar dorming styles-one fairly large room and communal bathrooms, but most people keep their doors shut. horan and east hill have suite style-two rooms and a bathroom joined.
Academic Rigor depending on your major, some things are harder for some-and easy for others. if you actually study and do homework on time, professors are usually very willing to help and you will do fine in the courses. tutoring is available, so use it to your advantage and learn the material instead of memorizing just for a test. most courses require you to remember the previous info from other classes.
Tips for prospective students campus jobs are filled quickly, so plan accordingly. buy books online, because the bookstore is very expensive (as is true with all other campuses), used books work fine-just get the correct edition. bring a lamp for your dorm room-it gets dark.
In three sentences manhattan college is well known for their engineering department, however the science department is in need of a makeover; some professors are hard to follow/understand, and there are few that are good. within the engineering department, the equipment may be a bit outdated, but it seems to be going through an update. it is great to be near enough to the city, to be able to do countless activities, and even on campus the student activities center tries to have things to do constantly around campus.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Intramural sports. Volunteer in the community. All types of clubs.
Tips for prospective students If you are looking to become an engineer, the college is one of the best in the nation. Very friendly environment. It is a catholic college, but they don't force their beliefs on anyone who doesn't want them too.
In three sentences Manhattan College is a fairly small sized institution, with a welcoming environment. The largest class size is no more than thirty students, therefore you really develop a personal relationship with your professor and they help you to do your best. Manhattan College offers many opportunities to get involved at the institute and in the community.

Categories Comments Campus Safety they work hard so students are safe
Greek Life there is none really, other than some relating to academics.
Clubs and Activities there are many club options
Great for these types of students student-athletes with academic drive, who are up for making their own adventures.
Bang for the buck it's rather expensive since it is a private school, but the academics, area, and dorms don't really measure up.
What to do for fun go to bars/parties, join a sports team (regular or intramural), take the subway to manhattan.
Food and Dining the school just switched to gormet dining services. the food is ok and always has some healthy options.
Dorm Life the rooms themselves are pretty big compared to other schools, but not very pretty or nice to look at. security is fairly strict, which is good because of the area the school is located, but can be annoying when you want a guest to visit.
Academic Rigor i think it depends what your major is. engineers always have a high work load and need to study hard, but i assume other majors can coast through.
Tips for prospective students make sure you want to be in a small college in an urban setting.
In three sentences manhattan college is good, but you won't get the typical college experience here necessarily. there is no greek life and few parties, so most of the social life consists in bars--or if you don't drink, in clubs or on sports teams. it is very small, which is great because of the small class sizes, but you won't meet someone new everyday (which can be thrilling and fun at other large schools).

Categories Comments Campus Safety Security is kind of a joke, but its a pretty safe campus.
Greek Life 1 fraternity and 1 sorority
Clubs and Activities Too many to choose from
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus find out for yourself :)
Bang for the buck There are so many opportunities to get your moneys worth... discounted tickets to Broadway, Yankees games, Writing Center, and a lot more
What to do for fun Go to the city! :)
Food and Dining Let's be honest... the food sucks. But sometimes its good, its just an on and off thing. But its college, we aren't there for the food.
Dorm Life There are only 4 dorms, but the friendly competition between the dorm buildings is fun, especially the dorm wars in the spring.
Academic Rigor It depends on how hard you are willing to work. If you are a hard worker you will do great. If studying is not for you then I would suggest a different school.
Tips for prospective students Come with the knowledge many students are local, and that there aren't many on campus dining options. But the school is a great place to be :)
In three sentences Manhattan College by far exceeded all of my expectations. The professors are amazing as well as the fest of the employees. Everyone is so helpful.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Security is all over campus, but don't worry, it is not overwhelming
Clubs and Activities There is every kinda of club, nobody gets left behind!
Bang for the buck I think the school is definitely worth you money since it is in a great location and the school is very credible.
What to do for fun Going to the city (timesquare) is my personal best, however many people simply play on the campus quad. Youcan play frisbee or some football. Many people skateboard around campus, there are often plays of some sort that you can go see, the student activities office always has a flyer of things to do for the week and they send out emails, so that you know what the activities are.
Food and Dining The food can sometimes not be so good, however, this year the meal plans are going to change, and they will make better food available.
Dorm Life The dorms are fun, you'll easily make friends with your suite mates!
Academic Rigor The teachers are very reasonable in their grading, but if you fail to give yourself sometime to study, then school will be very hard.
Tips for prospective students Have fun but do not forget about school! If you want to make more friends simply go to any of the student activities, it is very easy to make friends there!
In three sentences Manhattan College is a college with very friendly people. It offers lots of student activities therefore you can never be bored! And it is conveniently located next to the subway station, to make traveling easier.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Seems fine
Greek Life Hmm--unsure
Clubs and Activities Lots and Lots---I found out about this during an open house in my 11th grade year.
Great for these types of students brainiacs, fun, shy--- everyone seems to be included
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Of Catholic faith based--Strong Mentoring campus.
Bang for the buck The cost may be reasonble but not for all. We are living in challenging times.
What to do for fun I was told of many clubs and activites-or one train or bus ride away to the city.
Food and Dining For that summer it was fine.. Hey but I am a teenager- I eat all the time and still I am fit.
Dorm Life Have not experienced--I have heard that it is great.
Academic Rigor Engineering
Tips for prospective students Like any other school study hard, play well and succeed.
In three sentences It was during the Summer program at Manhattan college that I found out I wanted to do Engineering. This school is still my #1 school but parents cannot enroll me there at this time. I am still impressed with this school-see you in the future.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Security everywhere
Greek Life Not so great, but it exists
Clubs and Activities Lots of clubs/activities. Six Flags tickets for $10, football games for $40, Saturdays in the City, etc.
Great for these types of students Party goers, spontaneous go with the flow type, even gamers. Me and my friends sometimes and pick nights to just chill and play pokemon.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Not too sure about traditions, but there are great places to eat near Manhattan College. Broadway has pretty much all kinds of food while near the dorm, Overlook , on 238th adds to this variety of food.
Bang for the buck MC is in my opinion, over priced. Regardless, I am happy that I chose this school.
What to do for fun Go to NYC, local parties, find bars, go to the park, various activities around campus, hang out with friends/meet new people... NYC is your limit!
Tips for prospective students Do NOT procrastinate on any work; your work load will only grow if you put it off. Be careful with the cafeteria... make sure you eat your veggies for... digestive purposes.
In three sentences I love Manhattan College. It's proximity to New York City is one of it's best features. The people here are, in general, very nice.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The security for residence halls is strict but theres hardly any to get on to the campus .
Greek Life There only one sorority and no fraternities
Clubs and Activities There are 63 clubs but they are usually somewhat disorganized.
Great for these types of students Students who like small communities and being able to be in the city.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus During orientation they have a tradition of walking backwards down a path taking a oath not to walk on it until senior year. The spring fest event is probably the most exciting having a carnival type event and then having a band.
Bang for the buck The college 5 year master program for certain types of engineering programs makes it well worth the money for a masters degree.
What to do for fun There are always activities to do during the week and on weekends. The city is also so close anything os possible and you could never be bored.
Food and Dining The food is horrible they renovated the main dinkng hall (Lockes) but the food is still terrible. Some of the workers are impolite and rude. The other dining halls have certain regulations on when you get food which makes it difficult to eat on your own schedule.
Dorm Life There are four residence halls. The guest policy is pretty strict for horan and east hill requiring guest passes ahead of time in order to have overnight guests.
Academic Rigor The engineering department has a great program and is usually very organized. The only thing is that the math and science professors are incredibly difficult to understand because of thick accents. This makes it incredibly difficult to listen and to learn in class.
Tips for prospective students If your interested in this college just try to keep in contact with admissions and if they like you hopefully they'll accept you.
In three sentences Manhattan College is a great college, it is a small college which makes it very homie. The campus is very hilly but you get use to it. The college is very close to the 1 train which makes it easy to get to manhattan quickly.

They organize movies on the Quad every Friday night, trips to notable locations in New York City on Saturdays, provide tickets for concerts and much more. There is also an abundance of clubs which allow students to get in any group that suits his taste.
Food and Dining There is the presence of four cafeterias, in which a student can eat either by using his I.D or credit card depending on his status. Also many surrounding diners allow for students to use their I.D to pay for food and even give discounts because of the Manhattan I.D.
Dorm Life Manhattan college has about five residence halls of different qualities in order to satisfy the different taste of students. A general quality o all residence halls is the community relationship shown by each student, freshman to senior, emphasized by the school.
Academic Rigor Manhattan College has a very high expectation from students. This is because they offer the best form of teaching to students. even if a student fall low, they provide excellent means of assisting the student to be brilliant again.
Tips for prospective students get an early application to the school, present an appealing resume, have a good writing skill.
In three sentences Manhattan College is one that emphasizes learning in a community. The College offers great faculties offering diverse choices for students to choose a course of study leaning under carefully selected professors that pay attention to the needs of students. Greek Life Practically nonexistent.
Clubs and Activities Very large variety of clubs and activities. Attending basketball games is very popular.
Great for these types of students Engineers, outgoing students, people that want to explore outside their campus, people that enjoy city life.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Freshman have to walk backwards down senior walk on orientation. One of the elevators in the Horan building makes meowing sounds
Bang for the buck Pricey, but they offer a good amount of financial aid to offset that initial price. The location and experiences is also pretty priceless.
What to do for fun There are lots of theatre productions of various sorts, and plenty of clubs. Obviously the city is just a subway ride away. The possibilities are literally endless.
Food and Dining While not wonderful, the cafeteria offers a wide variety of options and the quality is definitely better than other schools.
Dorm Life The dorms are small but definitely can be made into cute and cozy little living spaces.
Academic Rigor It is challenging, but that is what college is all about.
Tips for prospective students This is a great school if you want to be close to the city, but still want that beautiful, old-school campus feel.
In three sentences This is an unexpectedly wonderful school. The teachers are intelligent and the curriculum is challenging but substantial. The students are friendly and make you feel more than welcomed and a part of the community.

Categories Comments What to do for fun If you're new to NYC, then there's Saturdays in the City where students are taken to different parts of the city to explore. There's also the outdoors club where students participate in snowboarding and other activities that involve the outdoors.
Food and Dining The food is good, they have 4 separate dining areas and are building a new one as well. They have lots of variety.
Dorm Life I don't live on campus but my friends who do seem to like it.
Academic Rigor Bio majors are expected to take 2 sciences, calculus, english, and two science labs their first year, it just gets harder. But then again, communication majors and business majors have an easier load so it depends on what your major is.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you visit the school before deciding to go there and see if its a right fit for you, ask the admissions counselor a lot of questions regarding the classes you'll be taking, the workload, etc. so you won't be surprised when you take your first classes.
In three sentences Manhattan is a very small school which means you get individual attention in all your classes since they're less than 30 students each. They expect highly of you so you can't really mess up because they expect you to be on top of your work as well. Overall, its been a bittersweet journey so far but I really like it here.
