Great for these types of students

This college is great for students that want a medium classroom size, and it is a close compact campus. Sports teams aren't the biggest or the best but they are well known and each event is alot of fun and time well spent.

    Tips for prospective students

College is alot different than highschool, you actually have to study. Don't let that scare you because if you put in the right amount of effort, you will do well. Get involved in all the campus activities even if you think they sound or look dumb, you could end up making your closest friends there.

    Bang for the buck

Good education for a good price.

    Am enjoying being here

Best college choice I could have made.

    Am learning a lot

You learn as much as you put into it.

Great for these types of students

Some one that want a great campus and faculty. That want to be able to watch a pretty fun sports team and finally have fun while still achieving at your goals in college.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to have you grades and test scores in order. It is important to know what your really want from a school as well. The reason is the number of schools wanting your attention can be very overwhelming. Start looking early one for schools and make sure they have you major. It makes the choice of you final few schools and ultimately the school you chose to go to much easier

    Bang for the buck

Coming from IL the colleges and universities are quites expensive even for an in-stater like me. Marshall on the other hand even without Financial aid is cheaper. With a annual tuition that is less than 13 thousand.

    Will enjoy being here

The Town is not to big not to small. The atmosphere there is perfect for some one that wants a place that is a happy median between say a Chicago or a really small town. I have not been but I have lived in small 10 thousand people or less towns and in Chicago with several million. Springfield also has 110 thousand. So it was pretty easy to know what size town I wanted.

    Will learn a lot

I have enrolled in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The Professors i have talked to are nice and know a lot about their subject.

Great for these types of students

Nursing Majors Music and Performance Pre-Med Pre-Pharmacy Med School Pre-Law Education -just about everything is offered at Marshall...those are just a few examples of what my friends and I are majoring in.

    Tips for prospective students

Go to all of your classes. Although most classes are not mandatory, some professors will give extra notes and explain things more in depth. Also, don't wail until last minute to complete presentations or study. That will only cause more stress which in turn may not work out so great.

    Bang for the buck

Cost was a huge deal for me. However, Marshall offers a great education for a great price.

    Am enjoying being here

I absolutely LOVE Marshall. I honestly can't imagine going anywhere else. For my particular major, nursing, the courses are great. I'm truly learning a lot of valuable material that will help me in the long run.

    Am learning a lot

The classes and professors are amazing. Although some courses are very difficult, depending on major, the majority of professors are willing to dedicate their extra time in order for you to understand the material.

Great for these types of students

Dedicated and diverse students, outgoing and those who don't mind living in very small cities. Students who are able to balance a social life while also able to stay focused on school work

    Tips for prospective students

Go to class!! You pay for each day you are in class so don't waste your money. Get to know the faculty they are there to help you. Study the material, just when you think you know everything you can end up flunking major tests and exams. Get and stay involved in school functions and activities

    Bang for the buck

You really do get more bang for your buck. Tuition is reasonable and with financial aid you may come out of pocket little to nothing( if anything at all). Marshall offer many types of scholarships so students can refrain from taking out loans

    Am enjoying being here

Huntington is not big at all, honestly in order to really make the most of your experience here you must get involved in school activities. The city do not really have much to offer so it help a great deal

    Am learning a lot

As a student you have no other choice but to learn about each and every course that you take. The professors I have taken thus far really knows their material and get students involved in every way possible. Not to mention very helpful: willing to take time after class and have one-on-one sessions with their students if for any reason they are not understanding the course work

Great for these types of students

It is good for anyone really. It is culturally diverse and excepting of all races, genders, religions, and sexual orientations. The classes aren't very large about the size of a normal class in AA or AAA school. Well unless you have a lecture class and then they can be a little large but they are still not too big

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved! Go to games and events sponsored by the school. Join clubs, fraternities, and/or sororities. If you are a student living on campus go to events sponsored by the dorms. They often have several a month. Talk to classmates and go to the student center. Having people to rely on is always a great thing. Make sure you have needed materials and even though it can sometimes be rough get some sleep. Be sure to study, do assignments, and actually go to class because that is the key to getting good grades. Get on good terms with the faculty and staff. If you need help don't be afraid to ask because somewhere on campus there is someone who can help you. Be sure to have fun and relax but don't go wild and let it effect your grades.

    Bang for the buck

I think all college tuitions are insane. At least your money gets you a good education, a membership to a state of the arc gym, many free activities on campus, discounts at several local locations, and tickets to sports events and plays/ shows. The residence halls provide a good place to live and many opportunities to meet new people. Depending on your meal plan you have the option to eat at the student center and the many restaurants and drink shops with meal equivalence You can also use certain meal plans at the campus store. Of course there are the two cafeterias that offer a variety of food.

    Am enjoying being here

I have met some of the most amazing people here. The campus is nice and you can always find something to do whether it is sponsored by the school or it is withing walking distance. The classes aren't over crowded and if you need help it is available.

    Am learning a lot

As it is with with everything in life you get as much as you put in. If you don't care and don't try then you won't learn anything. The more effort you put into it, the more you will learn. You also learn life lessons and are able to grow as a person as well.

Every year on the date of the Marshall plane crash, we turn off the fountain that is located in the middle of campus. The fountain is there in many of all the people who died in the 1970 plane crash. In the middle of Huntington, West Virginia, there is a river. Next to this river, there is a steel mill. And next to the steel mill, there is a school. In the middle of this school, there is a fountain. Each year, on the exact same day, at the exact same hour... the water to this fountain is turned off. And in this moment, once every year... throughout the town, throughout the school... time stands still.

    What to do for fun

Marshall has a brand new rec center and students are able to go swimming and rock climbing, and these are very popular activities. There is always something going on. Academic Rigor

    Tips for prospective students

Do not overwhelm yourself! I will have been at Marshall for 5 years by the time I graduate. I did not take summer classes every summer, and I didn't take the maximum amount of hours each semester. Take it slow and you will learn so much more. Stay involved in school. Make friends with the people in your department. Take your classes seriously and be there as much as you can. The classes I have involve you being in class. That is where you will learn how to do stuff. Don't take it so seriously that you are not having fun, though. There are classes you have to take, that you may not like and are not in your major, but you have to get through. You still want to do your best because if not it will reflect on your grades.

In my Intro to Costuming class, we are learning to sew and work on costumes. We are learning about the different aspects of it as a career. I got to work backstage on wardrobe crew for one of the plays. Wardrobe crew gets to do quick changes, repairs and laundry. We have the oppurtunity to go to the Humana Festival and Italy. the freshman dorms have thin walls that often make them louder than any of the other building, but they always stay clean. you can sign people in and out when ever you need to and all of the staff is very friendly. they other dorms i have never really had any complaints from except the lack of ac in holderby but its not a big issue, the people who live there don't seem to mind.

    Academic Rigor

every school is going to have the classes that are more difficult than others, but on marshall's campus they have a lot of free tutoring offered to every student. this means if you fall behind it is your own fault.

    Tips for prospective students

if you are thinking about coming to marshall, or any school for that matter, i would say the only advice i can offer is get involved. it will help you enjoy the next four years so much more than just sitting in your room and studying all the time. start a study group, make a workout group, and joining a club are great ways to make some life long friends.

    In three sentences

coming to marshall university was the best decision i have ever made. the students and staff are all extremely friendly and supportive. you will fall in love with this campus and the genuine people that come with it.

Also new students shouldn't be afraid to ask for help, most teachers will go above and beyond to help you. Last but definitely not least GO TO CLASS, that is the easiest way to succeed.

Marshall University is a good school if you're looking for a smaller school with a close knit campus. The classes aren't huge and it's a lot easier to get around on the smaller campus. Campus Safety

Campus safety is off the charts. MUPD is always around, and there are also these booths that allow you to call for help immediately if you need it. Being a 6'2 190 athlete i did not really come across any threatening situations, but if i did i would have had some way to get out of it.

    Greek Life

I had a couple of friends who were apart of greek life and if you are a responsible student that can handle doing social activities and school, it is definitely a place for you. Fun events, fund raisers, and friends for life is what you can bet on in the Greek system.

    Clubs and Activities

Activity wise all i know about is intramurals. I did not participate in them considering i was always at practice or at games, but i watched a couple and they were intense. The competition was always good and looked incredibly fun to take part in. I even enjoyed watching them! As for clubs there are many ranging from drama to bible study.

Great for these types of students

I feel as if this school is great for any type of student. Whatever personality you have you will fit in. Most of the students are past the point of judging, theyre too mature for that. You will fit in and you will find friends and activities to take part in i promise.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

As most people know Marshall is very known for the plane crash that happened in the 70's. There is an anniversary for this event held every year before winter when they turn off the memorial fountain behind the student center. Thousands of people come to watch this and it is an awesome site. Nothing can compare to this tradition.

    Bang for the buck

I have never been to a campus with more school spirit and history as this one. It is always filled with people during the school year, whether it is to watch football games or just your everyday students going to class. You will never be mad that you made the decision to go here as long as you give it a chance.

    What to do for fun

At marshall the most fun thing to do of course in my opinion was socialize. While i found myself very busy playing baseball, i still had time to socialize! I also spent a lot of my time at the rec or in the dorms playing ping pong. The Rec will be your best friend while there with a swimming pool, workout center, basketball courts, etc. you will very rarely find yourself bored.

    Food and Dining

The dining in my opinion was awesome. Granted you are not going to want to eat at harless everyday, but the student center and numerous other around campus food attractions such as fat pattys and d.p. dough will allow you to get away from them from time to time.

    Dorm Life

The dorm life is beyond awesome. As an ex-student athlete i was blessed to stay in the commons, which are more like apartments. When the school year was over and i had to move over to towers, i still enjoyed the rooms very much. Everybody is so friendly and there are endless ways to socialize and study.

    Academic Rigor

The professors that i had in my Freshmen year were very flexible and understanding when it came to me not turning something in or having to reschedule. They were always willing to talk to me and allow me to make things up if all the necessary terms were in action. Along with that nothing is impossible to handle. Everything that is offered to you will be very manageable and very doable in the time frame given.

    Tips for prospective students

When you all get to Marshall University you will realize that it is a very easy campus to get used to and love. Make wise decisions. I have no doubt in my mind that you will want to have fun, but be responsible about it because it is better to be safe than sorry. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE!

    In three sentences

    Campus Safety

Campus is in the middle of Huntington. It is not a closed campus. The Marshall Police Department patrols campus via car and bike. Their office is accessible and right on campus. The Huntington police also monitor campus. There are emergency poles planted all over campus. If you press the emergency button on the poles, you can speak with an officer and one will come to you right away. If you don't feel safe walking alone, you can call a police officer to walk you to your dorm or to your car. There are security guards in all the dorms from midnight to 8am. Traffic is probably one of the biggest safety concerns. Campus is between 5th avenue and 3rd avenue. These are major roads with heavy traffic. You have to be careful when crossing the street because the cars aren't necessarily going to stop for you. There are not a lot of crimes on campus. Sometimes you will hear about off-campus crimes. There are people who beg students for money on and near campus and around town. Most of the time theses people are scam artists who don't actually need the money, so you have to be careful about that.

    Greek Life

I am not a part of Greek life. I believe there are 3 sororities and maybe 6 or 8 fraternities. All the frat houses are on the same street. They are always having events and fund raisers.

    Clubs and Activities

There are tons of clubs on campus that are always promoting their causes and recruiting members. There is the Student Activities Planning Board that plans events on campus. There are volunteer organizations. There are several Christian life organizations of all denominations.

Great for these types of students

Marshall has a great theatre program, which is kind of unexpected. We have awesome theatre professors and have produced very talented students. The College of Health Professions is very popular and those students have access to the Cabell Huntington Hospital in town, which I understand is state-of-the-art. Athletes are certainly celebrated at Marshall.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

If you have ever seen the movie We Are Marshall, you are familiar with the tragic 1970 plane crash that killed almost all of Marshall's football team and coaches. That is a very important part of Marshall's history. The student center, officially the Memorial Student Center, is dedicated to those football players as well as the uniquely shaped fountain outside. The fountain is turned off every year during a memorial ceremony on the anniversary of the plane crash and not turned back on until the spring. Marshall football is a huge deal in the community and yes we do shout We are Marshall at the games. There is a lot of school spirit where Marshall athletics are concerned.

    Bang for the buck

Marshall's tuition is very cheap compared to some schools. Often times you'll find that a school's in-state tuition is cheap but their out-of-state tuition is ridiculous. Not so with Marshall. Their out-of-state tuition is only marginally higher than their in-state tuition. Marshall is not a big, flashy school, but it had everything I needed without putting me deep in debt.

    What to do for fun

There is a movie theatre within walking distance of campus that we frequent. There are also numerous restaurants and shops that you can easily walk to. Ritter Park is on the other end of town. It's a huge park that we love to go to. There's a playground, walking trails through the woods, and a rose garden. The Huntington Mall is about 15 minutes away from campus. There is also a movie theatre in the mall. Charleston, WV is about 45 minutes away from Huntington. There is another mall there as well as tons of other stores. The Charleston Civic Center as well as the Big Sandy Superstore Arena in Huntington are always having concerts and events. Lots of country music stars come through the area. The circus and the Harlem Globe Trotters were also in the area. Ashland, KY is about 30 minutes away from Huntington. There is another mall in Ashland. There are several bars and clubs in Huntington. There are also several tattoo and piercing shops that are popular with some students. Sporting events are very popular with students and the whole community. There are also intramural sports and fitness classes such as Zumba.

    Food and Dining

The food is what you can expect of dining hall food - not great, but decent. There are two dining halls and almost everyone has a preference over one or the other. Harless Dining Hall is the biggest. It has a salad bar and sandwich bar. They have a station that always serves burgers and fries. There is another station that always serves pizza. There is an international bar that usually has things like tacos or gumbo or stir fry. Then they have a classic bar that serves meatloaf and mashed potatoes or fish and hush puppies. Harless also has fruits and desserts, including self-serve ice cream. Twin Towers Dining Hall has a pasta/pizza bar, a burger bar, a salad bar, a sandwich bar, a classic bar, a dessert bar, and a made-to-order stir fry station. Both dining halls always have cereal available and both dining halls are open almost all day. The student center has options such as Chic-fil-a, Sub Connection (sort of like Subway), and Pizza Hut. There is also a Starbucks on campus that is very popular. When we get tired of dining hall food, there are a number of cheap restaurants around town that we frequent, including Flapjacks, a restaurant that serves breakfast food and Mexican food 24/7.

    Dorm Life

I went to a boarding high school, so there wasn't an adjustment period for me as far as dorm life goes. The dorm facilities vary from building to building. The first year residence halls and the commons are the nicest. Twin Towers and Holderby Hall are older buildings, noticeably so. In Twin Towers East, there is one microwave, one washer, and one dryer per floor. There are two bathrooms, 6 stalls, 8 sinks, and 5 showers total. There was never any fighting over bathroom space. The rooms are small, but manageable. The RA's plan a lot of programs and really get to know their residents. The front desk is monitored 24/7. We received mail in our own building. There is also a dining hall in that building.

    Academic Rigor

Coming from a private, college preparatory, boarding high school, I do not find Marshall's core academics challenging. I am a theatre major, and I do not find those classes particularly challenging either. They are time consuming, but invaluable as far as the amount I have learned.

    Tips for prospective students

You really have to visit Marshall to determine if it is right for you. You can't just take the online tour. You have to explore Huntington and other surrounding towns to see if it feels like home to you. I also advise sitting in on some classes and meeting current students, if you can.

    In three sentences

Marshall has a community feeling because the campus is small and the whole town of Huntington seems to support the college. The courses I have taken thus far in my intended major have been extremely informative, and I have gained a vast wealth of knowledge in just two semesters. Marshall has a lot of local West Virginian students, but there are some out-of-state and international students.

I have never felt unsafe on campus. There are safety poles located throughout campus and with the push of a button, police can be at your location within a few minutes. The campus police also offer a service to pick you up if you feel uncomfortable walking back to your dorm at night.

    Clubs and Activities

There are clubs and activities for much of anything you could want. If there is not a club for your interest, you can create one! As far as activities, its just a matter of knowing when and where. There is always something going on.

    What to do for fun

Free activities and floor programs are always going on. Additionally, there are many restaurants nearby as well as a bowling alley, mall, laser tag facility, and a pottery place.

    Food and Dining

The food here is just okay. The dining halls are hit are miss, generally miss. If you live on campus you are required to buy a meal plan which is very expensive. This is my least favorite aspect of campus life at Marshall.

    Dorm Life

Living in a dorm is great! but be sure to make friends with the people on your floor and try to attend at least a few programs. It helps you to make friends and makes dorm life more fun!

Food is not bad at all. If your'e looking for healthy options you may have to eat the same foods over and over, but it's not too bad of a deal. Also, your sophomore and up meal plans have options to use your meals in the student center food court which is an awesome advantage!

    Dorm Life

This will be my third year in the dorms and aside from many of my friends moving off campus I am not upset about it. It's especially helpful in the winter time when you don't have to risk icy weather to make it to class. Also, rolling out of bed and getting to class in 15 minutes is completely do-able if living in the dorms.

    Academic Rigor

This is solely based on you. If you want to take certain classes to get the easy way out, you can, but there are top-notch professors here that will push you to your limits and make you a better student and person.

    Dorm Life

It's a great way to meet new people & make new friends. Loads of fun overall.

    Academic Rigor

Classes are really what you make of it, just don't slack off. Mainly I just suggest to pay attention and take notes. Some classes are easier then others and don't require much work, while others do. But so far, with my experience, a majority of my classes have been simple while a small number havent been so simple but that's only because the subjects weren't my strong point.

    Tips for prospective students

Go to class and keep up with work.

Campus Safety is a priority in my opinion. There is always security and West Virginia Police on campus. It is obvious that student safety is valued by the administration.

    Greek Life

Greek Life holds a strong presence on my college campus. I am a part of Tau Kappa Epsilon and they have offered me brotherhood, academic help, friendships, and networking opportunities. Greek life at Marshall offeres a bond like no other.

There are numerous groups to join, and different clubs ranging from theatre to debate. There is also the presence of Greek Life and intramural sports.

Great for these types of students

There is a fountain which was built to honor the memory of the championship football team who parished while in flight to play another school. The fountain is located directly in the middle of campus and there is a ceremony held once every fall semester to commemorate this tragedy.

    Bang for the buck

In my opinion the quality of academics and other related services makes Marshall worth every penny.

    What to do for fun

Marshall offers a lot of different activities ranging from tailgating activities in the fall to different volunteer services. Marshall also has a newly built turf field and mutli million dollar gym. Also in walking distance is a downtown area called, Pullman Plaza, with a movie theatre, shops, and other dining areas.

    Food and Dining

The two dining halls on Marshall's campus are brand new. One that was just built last summer and another which was built about 2-3 years ago, that is the main dining hall on campus. There is also section of campus where students can go and use their meal plans to get food like Pizza Hut, Chick Fil A, and numerous other options.

    Dorm Life

The dorm life is fantastic, I stayed in the newly built first year residence halls which were basically like apartments without a kitchen. They had also just been built within the past few years which was also a plus. The dorms I will be staying in for my sophomore year are dorms called commons. They offer suite style living, with living rooms and multiple living accommodations within each suite.

    Academic Rigor

The courses offered at Marshall University range in difficulty, but even the easiest of classes will not automatically guarantee easy A's. Marshall is no Yale, but there are classes offered that could be easily comparable in my opinion.

    Tips for prospective students

For perspective students all I can say is to bring with them good study skills and good time management skills. Be open and accepting of different cultures and lifestyles.

    In three sentences

Marshall was an experience within its self. The cultural diversity broadened my outlook on life. I couldn't have chosen a better University to attend.

Can't say for certain considering i'm not involved in any of the fraternities, but from what I have heard it is a very good community feeling.

    Clubs and Activities

I personally am active in the Christian-affiliated groups on campus at Marshall University. We have at least 5 different groups that share a common goal and are held at different times throughout the week just to fit your schedule. Groups at Marshall often do activities together and you get active in the community as well.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

We day by day live with the memory of our 1970 football team's plan crash. To commemorate that day, a fountain was erected in the main square outside of Marshall's student center. The fountain is turned on at the start of spring football season, and turned off at the end of football season. It is something we live with the memory of and we deeply support our team every season.

    Bang for the buck

Marshall's average tuition is something like $11,000 which is crazy cheap nowadays. Marshall ranks fairly high in their academic standing and is recognized nationally as a respectable university.

    What to do for fun

Marshall just built their own Rec Center which has a student could want in a gym membership (already included in tuition). Also Club Sports are really big at Marshall and there are a lot of them. Just off campus there is Ritter Park where you can enjoy any outdoor activity, and then in downtown Huntington there is the main attraction, Pullman Square: includes a movie theater and all the restaurants you could dream of.

    Food and Dining

Food and Dining at Marshall is really good in my opinion. With 3 main dining halls across campus and the whole city of Huntington around Marshall with nearly unlimited options within a 3 mile radius you really have your pick of food at Marshall University.

    Dorm Life

It is true what everyone says that you have to live in the dorms at least once in your college life. Freshman year is a great time to break into the college life. Sure you might make enemies, but on the other hand you get so close to friends/roommates/suitemates because you're on campus all the time and living with them. Makes it really easy to become involved in all kinds of group around Campus.

    Academic Rigor

Some colleges within Marshall I think are more challenging than others with the work load put on their respective students. That being said, Marshall is about middle-of-the-road i'd say referring to the difficulty of the classes anyways.

    Tips for prospective students

    Campus Safety

Campus security is always in effect and very helpful in situations. If something bad was to happen either on campus or around they send out emails and texts if you chose to receive them. This lets you know where to stay clear of or what to watch for. The campus is lit up at night but if you are scared there are emergency poles where you can press for an officer to walk you where you need to go. Finally, each dorm has a security policy where they need to swipe their card to get into the building and show their key, guests have to sign in through each resident. This is a very safe place and I have never felt scare.

    Greek Life

On campus there are a number of sororities and fraternities all location close to the school. There are great options and plenty to choose from. The Greek Life put on different events and have their Greek Week. As well as raise money for their philanthropy. This is a great choice for anyone and can really be a family with each other.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many different clubs and activities to do here. There are intramurals for anybody who wants to play for fun, these range from volleyball, to soccer, to cornhole. Different clubs around campus vary from equestrian club to car club. If the club isn't on campus, it is very easy to find people to join and start it yourself.

Great for these types of students

Any student is welcome here. This is a very diverse campus and it has a lot of accommodations for any type of person.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Of course the plane crash memorial is the highest tradition. Every year on the day of the plane crash from 1970 they have a memorial and turn off our fountain in the middle of campus. This remains off until around the spring game when they turn it back off. The memorial asks all students to be in attendance as well as the community. It is one of the nicest things to see and really has an impact on the town.

    Bang for the buck

This completely depends on where you are from and what you are doing at the school. As I am in out of state student it is kind of pricey and there are a lot of extra costs with few out of state scholarships. However, it is worth the price. There are many places to get jobs on campus to help with the cost and there are things you can do to reduce costs.

    What to do for fun

There are lots of things to do for fun around here. The number one thing is definitely the sporting events. Even if the team loses horribly, there is excitement in the game and a great time for you to hang out with your friends. Around town there is a bowling alley, movies, stores, restaurants, and places to visit. Ritter park is a huge park with tennis courts and lots of areas for picnics or Frisbee. We are right next to the river which is beautiful during sunset and very relaxing. Finally, there is almost always something going on around campus to get involved with.

    Food and Dining

I mean, most cafeteria's don't have the highest quality food, but they try to have a variety at all times. There are two different dining halls open for breakfast lunch and dinner and one has late night. Within the dining halls they have pizza, salads, sandwiches and cereal during the meals, but there is also other stations with daily meals. You can access these menus online to have a heads up.

    Dorm Life

There are plenty of dorms on campus starting with Freshman dorms. It is really nice to live with people that are in the same position you are in, new, nervous, scare, etc. Marshall also has 3 dorms that range from all girls, to single rooms, to double rooms. There are also 4 dorms considered commons, that are suite style rooms. Many options are available for you to choose how you want to live. Also, the staff is really useful.

    Academic Rigor

Although some classes are super easy, some can be very detailed and in depth and require a lot of extra time. Professors try to give you a heads up in their syllabi's, but sometimes it all comes down to the end.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you keep track of the classes you take and what you will need to take to help your advisers out. They have a lot to deal with and there could be confusion and you sign up for a class you don't need. Also, make sure you study and get help if you need it, the professors are here for that reason.

This is a wonderful school that is small enough that your teachers know you by name but big enough to where that isn't a problem. There are many different majors to choose from and many optional classes that sound like fun; including scuba diving or self defense. Finally, when you need a break from studying you can hit up a sporting event; it's crazy how involved the whole community gets and it's definitely worth your time.

    Campus Safety

The campus is the safest place in the city. Campus police patrol the grounds day and night. The university has an alert system set up for emergencies on or even near campus.

    Greek Life

There are multiple active fraternities and sororities on campus.

    Clubs and Activities

There are too many to name! Opportunities on campus are endless. I would recommend visiting the Student Activities Board for a comprehensive list of clubs and organizations. Just a few include: Greek life, business clubs, religious organizations, gardening and sustainable living groups, environmental and green advocacy, women's rights and issues groups, men's and women's rugby clubs, service groups, political organizations, ect!!

Great for these types of students

Marshall is a tight nit community with all the benefits of a large university and the those of a small private college. We also have a large and supportive international population. Our student and faculty population is a diverse haven located within Central Appalachia.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The Marshall University football team was tragically lost in a plane crash in the 70s. This tragedy has brought the Marshall community together, and every year we honor the memory of those who were lost at the Memorial Fountain in a ceremony.

    Bang for the buck

Marshall is a wonderful campus with many social, service, and academic opportunities. Tuition is very reasonable, and the financial aid office will work with you to find ways to pay!

    What to do for fun

Beech Fork Lake close by with fishing, boating, and swimming opportunities. Within 3 hours of ski resort in the winter. Within walking distance of several great restaurants, cafes, specialty shoppes, and a large movie theater. Marshall offers constant activities and events on campus that often include music, dancing, and food!

    Food and Dining

Several flexible options on campus, including two dinning halls, and student center cafeteria, which includes Pizza Hut, Subs, Starbucks, Chick-fila. Includes vegetarian options.

    Dorm Life

Resident Services offer activities for residents and great facilities. Several brand new dorms on campus which include private bathrooms. There are also small movie theaters in the residence halls! All residence halls are within steps of the dinning facilities and are located on the main campus.

    Academic Rigor

Classes at all levels of challenge. Remedial, average, and advanced, and intensive. Marshall faculty will work with you to cater the program to your specific goals and needs.

    Tips for prospective students

Go to the new and fully equipped Rec Center! There's lots of activities to do. Also get involved with Student Activities to find clubs and organizations you may want to be apart of. The HELP program also helps provide students with academic difficulties with their classes.

    In three sentences

Marshall has a beautiful campus, and lots of student activities and opportunities to connect to other students. Marshall has a tight nit community which is an advantage to students seeking assistance and hoping to connect with many opportunities on campus. This is a great campus, especially for undergraduates seeking guidance and a place in the community.

In the 70's, there was a plane crash where an entire football team, coaches, and others from the university died on the way home from a football game. There now is a fountain behind the Memorial Student Center that was made as a memorial to remember those who died. Every November, on the anniversary of the crash, at the exact same time every year. The fountain is turned off, and there is a memorial ceremony. Then, there is another ceremony to turn it back on in May.

    What to do for fun

Go to the Recreation center (aka The REC). There is a pool, basketball courts, treadmills, a weight room, intramural sports, a track, etc. Take advantage of those. There's plenty of activites on campus. Many of them are made known through emails throughout the campus. Most of all: Game Day! Go Herd!

    Food and Dining

There are 3 dining halls on campus. The Memorial Student Center houses a food court with Chick-Fil-A, Pizza Hut, a sub sandwich place, and others. Harless Dining hall and Twin Towers Dining hall are buffet style, all you can eat. The food at both is very good. Also, Marshall is in the middle of a city so Fat Patty's and other restaurants are just a quick walk/drive away.

    Dorm Life

I do not actually live in the dorms. I commute, but I have been in some of the dorms. All of the buildings are pretty good in quality, but some are obviously newer that others. Freshman North and South and the Marshall Commons are the newest dorm complexes. Buskirk Hall, Holderby Hall, and Twin Towers (there may be other buildings I am forgetting) are older but still very clean and of good quality. All buildings take precautions to ensure the safety of the residents.

    Academic Rigor

The academics at Marshall are definitely not the easiest. Depending upon the instructor, the class can be relatively easy or relatively hard. I've noticed that many of the harder classes are strictly lecture and tests, but some of the easy content classes include quite a bit of projects and papers. Marshall is not a Harvard level, but it is not a community college level either. I'd say the difficulty of he academics is somewhere in the middle.

    Tips for prospective students

If you're considering Marshall, all I can say is: get involved! Join clubs, religious groups, intramural sports teams, etc. Especially if you are commuting, it is a great way to make new friends and have a life away from your parents. Secondly, take use of the Rec Center, even if it is just the pool. It has so much to offer, and it is a great facility! Thirdly, be safe, have fun, and do your school work. It's easy to get too involved and forget about homework and projects, but its important that you take care of that too!

    In three sentences

Marshall University is great school with a multitude of possibilities. Anyone would tell you that Marshall University is Huntington, WV and Huntington, WV is Marshall University. The campus is big enough to offer its students with as many opportunities as possible, but also small enough to give a sense of closeness, community, and home (even if it's far away).

Great for these types of students

This is a great university for athletes. They make sure you are on top of your work and doing well. They also provide you with everything needed.

    What to do for fun

Unless you are on a sports team, in a fraternity or sorority, there is not much to do. It is really hard to get involved here at Marshall.

    Food and Dining

The food is decent on most days but on others its a hit or miss. There are a couple of different locations where you can go to get something to eat.

    Dorm Life

The freshman dorms and apartments for the athletes are pretty nice. The apartments are hard to get into and there is a huge waiting list unless you are on a team.

    Academic Rigor

Here at Marshall it is hard to get help unless it is with your professor. They are slow on getting back to you and I feel I was having to deal with problems on my own instead of the help being available as expected. But if I am having a hard time with my work, I go to my professors on their office hours which seems to help.

    In three sentences

Marshall is a decent school , but not what I expected. I don't feel as if I am a part of this school. Instead, I feel I just am here.

    Campus Safety

There are campus police who ride around on bikes. Overall I always feel safe when I am walking around but then again I am almost always with my husband. The university frequently sends out emails advising people to travel in groups to prevent crime from happening to you. Recently someone got sexually assaulted in one of the student parking lots but this could happen anywhere. Overall I would safe the campus is pretty safe.

    What to do for fun

There is not much of anything you can do to have a good time. Eating and going to the movies is normally where the fun ends.

    Food and Dining

There are not a lot of choices near campus. There are enough but my husband and I got tired of the restaurants near campus very quickly. If you have access to a vehicle there is a mall about 15 miles down the road where you can find more of a selection.

    Dorm Life

I never lived in the dorms but my husband did. Marshall has freshman dorms that are very new and extremely nice compared to the other dorms available which are extremely outdated. My husband and I had friends who live in the dorms so we have seen the inside of them and they are not and attractive environmental. I would ask to have a tour of the dorm rooms if possible if you are considering attending Marshall. Also some of the the dorm building do not have air conditioning.

    Academic Rigor

The difficulty of the classes really depend on the subject. All the core requirements are super easy. I am a psychology major and all the classes I have taken have been fairly easy.

    Tips for prospective students

Always get a second opinion when asking questions that involve financial aid or classes. My husband and I have both had questions answered with incorrect information so be sure to not always believe what you are told.

    In three sentences

It is pretty cheap if you are receiving in state tuition. The class rooms are very outdated unless you are a engineering student. The campus is compact so it is very easy to get from class to class. The worst part about attending Marshall for me has been the weather in Huntington, WV. It rains at least three times a week if not more. I know that Marshall has no control over the weather but I do believe that you should take the constant rain into consideration.

    What to do for fun

There is always something going on. There are dozens of clubs and fraternities and sororities, and lots of these groups hold activities on campus. Also, there is an older student living in the dorms with you who organizes activities for their floor. The different colleges bring in various speakers and musicians, and there are several different religious groups that have weekly get-togethers.

    Food and Dining

It isn't awful and it is definitely better than high school food, but if you have taste buds you are in no danger of overeating. Halfway through the second semester you begin to dread going to the cafeterias. There are a lot of places to eat within a block or two of campus though, and those are pretty good and relatively cheap.

    Dorm Life

They do a good job of trying to get you to know the people around you, although since the activities are optional you don't have to if you don't want to. The dorms are a good size and pretty clean, although the freshmen don't always take care of them really well. If noise from neighboring rooms bothers you a lot, don't room in the new Freshmen Dorms. I don't usually hear the people next to me, but the people above me always sound like they are coming through the ceiling, and you can hear people in the hallway or outside the building pretty clearly if they are being loud.

    Academic Rigor

Obviously this depends on your major, but for science majors, the intro classes start off pretty easy and get harder, which is how it should be. The core classes are generally really easy, although some of the professors will give you a lot of work in them, which is obnoxious.

    In three sentences

I love that campus is contained in two or three blocks, because you can literally walk anywhere you need to in ten minutes or less. Campus is supposed to be dry, but everyone knows about Thirsty Thursday and a club about a block from campus where underage kids can go to drink. There isn't any pressure to drink or do drugs or join a frat unless your particular group of friends is into that stuff.

West Virginia as a whole is an outdoor enthusiast's wonderland. If you are not into the outdoors we live in a small city and there is always something to do locally.

    Food and Dining

I love the food! There are so many options here at Marshall University it is not funny. On campus you have about six different places to eat.

    Academic Rigor

The academic rigor I would consider being moderately challenging. The school offers tons of support and help to get you through those difficult classes. I would say come here if your looking for a quality education.

    Tips for prospective students

To prospective students, work hard, do great, and most importantly have fun if you are not having fun with your education I doubt that you will have fun in your career. Find what you want to do! That is what college is truly about.

    Campus Safety

All campuses have their issues with safety. Marshall is no exclusion, but there are safety patrolmen all over campus. They keep an avid eye on all the students and activities going on, and they work with the actual Huntington police department if there is an issue occurring. You are also free to have them escort you back to your car or dormitory if you feel that you are in an unsafe situation. They work hard to keep everything safe for all the students. Last year, there were a few instances of students being raped or assaulted on campus, but they occurred on dark parking lots during the nighttime so as long as you take the proper precautions, you will be safe.

    Bang for the buck

As most of you know, college is expensive, but for everything you pay for, you really do get a lot back. You can get refunds from the college itself for incoming scholarships. You can get so much use out of the recreational center located on campus for what you pay for it. It's open seven days a week. They have a pool, basketball courts, every workout machine you could ever imagine, and rooms you can reserve for a game of racquetball. With all the money you pay for your education, you really do get a lot out of it with everything your professors do for you. They offer their office hours, emails, and even phone numbers to be at your disposal. You have access to free tutoring services and free classes at the rec center.

    What to do for fun

No matter what you're into, there is always something for you. You could join a sorority or fraternity at Marshall, or you could simply join a club. If you're an athlete but don't want to be a part of the official teams, you can join the intramural sports' teams and meet so many new friends that you'll keep forever. If clubs aren't really your things, that's ok because Marshall offers many different activities that you can participate in without having to join a club or anything like that. They have concerts, comedy shows, showcases, outdoor activities, and much more. If that's not for you either, the mall is only twenty minutes away in Barboursville, or you can go up town to Pullman Square for a movie, dinner, and a little light shopping.

    Food and Dining

If you're expecting some five star quality restaurant food, then you're definitely going to be in for a shock. The food at Marshall isn't terrible, but sometimes, it does lack a little on the flavor train. They always serve a variety of meals, though, throughout the year ranging from Italian to Asian style cuisine. On top of that, you have different service bars to choose from. You could take a trip to the salad bar and make any salad you like with whatever toppings you wish, or you could go for the pizza/pasta bar and binge on some Italian food. There are also places for you to get the All-American Hamburger, or if you aren't feeling very adventurous, you could settle for whatever hot food menu items the cooks have chosen for that meal on that particular day.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life can be fun or it can be the worst part of your experience in college. For me, it was about half and half. It's in your best interest that you do everything you can to have a good roommate your first year. This can be a great help in the rest of your experience. The dorms are clean and basically provide you with all the necessities of home except for maybe your cat, Fluffy. Once you add in the d©cor and all your home life, there really isn't anything else that you need. They provide you with a bed, desk and chair, dresser, closet, and some of the dorm rooms even have their own bathrooms which makes it even easier to cope with leaving home. You can also choose to live inside Living Learning Communities (LLC's) where you're surrounded by people that are studying the same things that you are to where you won't feel so alone.

    Academic Rigor

Classes at Marshall are only as hard as what you make them. Some of the professors for various courses are more difficult than others, but ultimately, if you come to class more days than not out of a semester and do your best to understand the material, than you shouldn't have a problem at all. It also all depends upon your major. Some are harder than others so if you don't enjoy science, then I would highly suggest not picking a major within the college of science or else you will not enjoy your college experience, and you will greatly struggle with your classwork.

    Tips for prospective students

Always make sure that you have everything in order. The faculty and other students there are willing to help you, but you should make sure that you have done research on your own part without expecting them to do it for you. They appreciate students that take initiative into finding out things on their own, but they do offer help to those that are stumped along the way.

    In three sentences

Marshall is a fun filled university that makes everyone feel welcome. There is always something to do and someone to make you feel like you are a large part of the campus. The faculty make a great effort for each student to have a prospective outlook on their college experience.

    What to do for fun

The fun activity centers around the school's athletic teams, the night life in Huntington and the rec center. All are ok, but there are an abundance of violent drug like activities that are creeping ever closer to campus.

    Food and Dining

Food is plentiful and varied. More late night options would be a bonus. The healthy options aren't huge but are available.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is pretty good, and improvement could be made in the older living areas. Kids are pretty accepting of all kinds of students. Food options are varied and above average.

    Academic Rigor

Academics are strenuous but manageable if the student apply their time wisely. Professors are generally engaged, and online classes are plentiful

    In three sentences

Marshall University is a good place for advancing your education but isn't living up to the promise it makes prospective students. The dorm life is pretty average and food options are above average. Social life on campus is too centered around the night life.

    Campus Safety

Not a lot of dangerous things happen on campus. Honestly, the worse I've seen is someone getting alcohol poisoning and having the emergency vehicles come and get whoever has it. The student security are always on duty and officers on campus are attentive to what everyone is doing. I recommend not doing something illegal on campus and something stupid like smoking in your room. Everyone pays for it.

    Greek Life

I don't know much about the Greek life since I'm not in a sorority myself. I've listened to a lot of speeches about the Greek life from those who are actually in it though and it always sounds like a good opportunity for those who are into that sort of thing. More so, the Greek life is more for people who are looking for guidelines to get through college with support and fun mixed together. You'll have a greater chance of meeting friends for life there than you would going to a club.

    Clubs and Activities

They always have some kind of new event happening almost every week. It goes from seasonal events, to those who have special speakers, and even some that clubs host themselves. I always loved it when the Japanese club sold food at the student center. I had never tried a rice-ball before and I was so happy that I bought two more. Also the clubs are always fun! If you pick one that peaks your interest, go for it! I bet you will have a great time and especially make some new friends with similar interests as you do!

Great for these types of students

As mentioned before, I highly recommend clubs for anyone who is having a hard time meeting new people and getting along with them. I have an anti-social personality and I pretty much fit right into the Gaming Club on the campus. I enjoy it every time I go and even have become an official member. You'll have to look at the list of Clubs they have on the Marshall University website - I promise you won't be disappointed.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Annually they have this game go on called Zombies versus Humans which is pretty much a wide campus event that you can get involved in. It's pretty much that humans get the orange bands, zombies get green, and the humans have to avoid getting touched by the zombies. You have to have your own Nerf guns to play and you have to shoot a zombie in order to not get turned. The team who lives long enough wins. Last year, however, the zombies overran the humans so they won. I'm interested to see what happens this year.

    Bang for the buck

Though I think Marshall University is a bit expensive, it's a pretty decent place to have your education and be able to live there. I live six hours away from Marshall and I always love having my own freedom. Of course, the education at Marshall is also worth the money. I feel like I'm learning more than I ever did during my grade school career!

    What to do for fun

I usually see people out in the fields of Marshall University playing football, soccer, or just tossing a frisbee. Honestly, all you have to do is walk downstairs to your dorm's lobby and they usually have a small area set up to play games and even some ping-ball or pool. I also encourage joining a club because they usually have fun events set up just to take away stress from studying and college. I'm in the Marshall University's Gaming Club and I love it! I met some of my friends in there, actually, which is also pretty neat.

    Food and Dining

The food and dining at Marshall University is fairly decent. There are two dining halls, Twin Market and Harless - both have a decent amount of food and various kinds. Twin Market is better suited for quick breakfast (you can grab a muffin, scone, cereal, whatever you like) and Harless is more suited for food that you can sit down and eat. Of course, it gets crowded in the dining halls sometimes but they usually have a place somewhere in the floods of people. If not, you can walk down the street because there's a McDonalds, Steak 'n Escape, and Arbies down the road.

    Dorm Life

The dorm life at Marshall University is alright. I say just alright because I really hated my Freshman year. During the Freshman year, all students must live with a roommate; my first one scared and intimidated me and my second roommate ended up being a nut. So please, be careful and get to know your roommate. I ended up desperately avoiding my first roommate by sleeping on the floors of my friend's dorms.

    Academic Rigor

The academic challenges at Marshall University can be from brutal to simple, depending on what college you reside in. This is actually the problem that led me to change from Medical Professions to Graphic Designs the second semester of my Freshman year. I was getting too stressed out about trying to accomplish things that were way over my head. For example, I took a Physiology class when I was a Freshman and nearly passed with a 70 C. Not a lot of people passed that class.

    Tips for prospective students

    - Go to Orientation and meet your roommate - Attend classes; don't give excuses and accept your responsibility - Open your mind to new ideas because you will be exposed to a brand new world - Do the best you can; sometimes admitting defeat might be the best choice (and if that's the case, try to work it out with your professor.) - College is nothing like high school; act like an adult and you'll be treated as such - Join clubs; you never know how it might be - Be polite and courteous to your professor; they may become your friend down the road - If you become stressed (and even depressed), please take some time to hang out with your friends. Don't kill yourself while you're studying. - Go walk outside every once in a while, you'll enjoy it. - Overall, be careful; adult life is a bit dangerous. Choose your friends wisely and make the best decisions for you.

    In three sentences

Being a student who didn't go to orientation, never visited Marshall University nor have been in the area of Huntington before the Week of Welcome (or WOW) event, I'd say this college makes you feel right at home. I was scared the first two weeks because I had roommate problems, didn't have any friends, and didn't know anyone. They helped me out and now I'm in a better place now because of it.

    What to do for fun

I heard a lot of people say that Huntington is boring, but I don't think so. The downtown theatre has many shows and concerts playing, some free to Marshall students. You can walk to the river and chill for a few hours or drive the short distance to the beautiful Ritter Park. On campus, there are endless programs going on. Sporting events are awesome to go to and be sure to support the art department by going to exhibits and plays. Don't be the lame person that just sits in your room after class complaining about how there is nothing to do.

    Food and Dining

Food is food. Sure, the first week is exciting and everything tastes awesome but it gets pretty old after a few months. The staff at both dinning halls are awesome. They always greet you and I've had the chance to have conversations with a few of them. They are people too, so try not to make their life hell by acting like immature high school kids. If you are paying for a meal plan, please take advantage of it. My first semester, I always forgot to go to dinner or didn't feel like putting on pants (sad I know) so I wasted my own money. No one is going to care if you are eating by yourself and they are not going to judge you, so go eat!!

    Dorm Life

The residence staff is always planning and holding programs. They truly make you feel like you are welcome. The dorms are where some of you will live for more than half the year so be friendly with your neighbors. Don't break the rules, don't be extremely loud, and always lock your door.

    Academic Rigor

Academics are extremely hard if you make them. If you don't study or attend class, you are setting yourself up for failure. During my first few weeks, I didn't study a lot and it all caught up to me at midterms. You write a lot of papers and index cards can be your best study tool. Your professors are there to help you so don't be the shy. Remember, they work for you but they won't do your work.

    Tips for prospective students

Marshall has all of the resources that you will ever need while continuing your education, your job is to take full advantage of them. Join clubs, introduce yourself to your peers and professors, and sit with people while eating. In class, sit at the front so you're not tempted to sleep or text. Ask questions and go to your professors office hours. Attend art gallery openings, go to plays and festivals in Huntington, and go to the park. Don't come to Marshall with a closed mind, keep it open along with your eyes and ears.

    In three sentences

Marshall University is where you will find yourself, put your high school education to the test, broaden your horizons, and have your mind opened up to many different opportunities. Staffed with excellent professors (some not so much) and other people willing to help you whenever you need it, Marshall is a great university to attend.

    Campus Safety

There are large poles around the entire campus that are Emergency Alerts. Campus police make ground rounds 24 hours a day. The dorms are monitored 24 hours with security personnel and security precautions are always in place.

    Greek Life

There are 11 fraternities and 6 sororities to choose from at Marshall. Most of them have houses on the outlying areas of the campus. Every year, twice a year, there are bid days for greek life. This is a fun way to find your place and meet all of the Greeks here on campus!

    Clubs and Activities

There are a number of opportunities for extracurriculars here at Marshall. You can find many of the clubs and organizations here, http://www.marshall.edu/student-activities/default2.asp?active_page_id=53. My favorite organization is the Student Ambassadors because we deal very closely with the alumni and have a great time learning our Herd history that way. The Marshall Maniacs is the biggest group on campus that was made specifically to cheer on the Herd! Hundreds of students join this group and go crazy for the Herd at all of the football, soccer, and basketball games.

Great for these types of students

Science students will especially love the new Robert Byrd Biotechnology Center. This building is filled with high-tech machines and analysis software for all of your scientific needs. In 2015, the brand new Engineering Center will open and will be a wonderful new addition for all of the aspiring engineers out there. The Arts are very highly held here as well. From music theory to art, you will find your niche here.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Every year Marshall holds a memorial service for the November 14, 1970 Football team plane crash victims. There is a huge fountain in the middle of the student center area that is dedicated to the 75 football players that died when the plane crashed. The football teams families join once a year to remember the students and turn off the fountain for the winter. In the spring, the fountain is turned on again. This is a great time for the entire student body to come together and remember the lives and loved ones we all lost.

    Bang for the buck

The professors work hard for you as a student. Even if the out of state tuition seems steep, it is not as expensive as many other universities. Also, with tuition comes a lot of amenities. You get discounts at many of the local establishments around the city. The football games are always free to students. There are many different artists that come to Huntington through the Marshall Artist Series that are either free or VERY discounted tickets.

    What to do for fun

At Marshall, we have something called the Marshall Artist Series where big names like Celo Green and Jeff Dunham come into town specifically for Marshall's entertainment. Football games are also a very fun way of showing your Herd Spirit off. Pullman Square about 10 blocks away from campus has many fun places to offer in a short walking distance. There are clothing stores, a book store, a movie theater, Pottery Place ( which you have to go to at least once), and nice restaurants too. The Huntington Mall is only about a 15 minute drive away and offers many places to shop. Also, Charleston is about an hour away and offers great fun things to do on the weekends.

    Food and Dining

There are two main dining halls open to students every day. There are a number of dining plans offered by Marshall so you can get your plan tailored to what you want. These dining halls are buffet style so you can eat as much as you want when you want. There are usually regular items like pizza, salads, and burgers, but there is always a daily new item that you can check out too. In the student center, there are also mini restaurants like Chic-Fil-A, Pizza Hut, and SubConnection. With some of the meal plans, this option is actually free! It's also a nice change of scenery from the dining halls.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is the best way to go for EVERY new student. You will be minutes away from all of your classes (so you can sleep in a little longer than others). Most everyone is driven to do well in classes so the dorms stay quieter than most apartment style living. You get neat perks like group outings with your floor-mates and you get to have fun meetings where you can get to know the people you live next to on a personal basis. You don't have to pay monthly for utilities like you would have to in an apartment and you are very safe within the campus grounds.

    Academic Rigor

Most professors are incredibly driven to help you out in your academic success here as well as continuing on in your education. If you get to know your professors, you will definitely be able to go far.

    Tips for prospective students

Bring rain boots and an umbrella, it gets pretty rainy some days. Get to know the professors within your major because they will help you out more than you can imagine right now. Make friends with the people within your degree as well. These other students are going through the same struggles you are so you can all form study groups and vent about things.

    In three sentences

Marshall University is a small campus with a big sense of belonging. Professors from all programs are always willing to help students any way they can. The tight knit student body makes going to Marshall worth while.

Get to know the international students and participate in the program that buddies you up with one of them to help them learn about the things to do.

    Food and Dining

    Dorm Life

The freshmen dorms are really nice, but from what I've heard some of the other places aren't so nice. My stay in the dorms was always great. I stayed in the newly built dorms, and everything was clean and well kept.

    Academic Rigor

In my experience, there are bad teachers everywhere. However, I really enjoyed and learned from all the teachers I had. They were at times frustrating, but I always found the help I needed to improve.

We hold a memorial service every year in November to honor those who died in the plane crash. We have a very strong history surrounding that tragic event which brings the students of Marshall closer together.

    What to do for fun

Campus is on the river which boarders both Ohio and Kentucky. Between the three states, there is always something you can find to do. There are quite a few parks, seasonal activities such as the Pumpkin House in Kenova, only a few miles down the road, and the Winter Wonderland of Lights in Ashland, also a short trip away, and there is almost always a concert going on between the theater and the Big Sandy in Pullman Square.

    Food and Dining

The food offered on campus isn't your standard cafeteria food. It honestly isn't bad, and there is always various options of what you can get each day. What is also nice about this campus is that there are two cafeterias along with a store and food court, all which accept meal plans.

    Dorm Life

New freshman dorms have been build within the last five years, and they are great. Other dorms aren't too bad either. All but one have air conditioning, and each building has an elevator (which really helps when moving in/out!). You have you options with types of rooms (singles, doubles, suits).

    Academic Rigor

All the classes range in difficulty. Some are more laid back, general knowledge classes, but then there are also those that present themselves as much more challenging. There are a range of classes that are specific to the honors college as well.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved with groups on campus. There is a variety to choose from, so there can easily be something for everyone.

    In three sentences

The campus is great. It is large enough to offer a broad diversity level, yet still small enough to hold smaller classes that offer more one-on-one time with the professors. Many of the university's staff are friendly and welcoming to their students as well as anyone who may approach them with questions.
