Great for these types of students

Hardworking students, who want to succeed.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure Mercer is what your looking for, it's no walk in the park.

    Bang for the buck

Mercer is a very expensive college, with a price tag that doesn't seem to fit quite right. No doubt it is a very prestigious private school, with many resources for students. Yes it is a relatively small university with plenty of personal attention from each professor, And yes in the end a diploma from Mercer would look fantastic on any resume but . . . Well i guess the price isn't too bad after you add everything up.

    Am enjoying being here

I absolutely love being at Mercer. It's a very welcoming environment, and it doesn't take long to become part of the family that is the Mercer community. There are many clubs, fraternities, sororities, and other groups that help making the Mercer experience one of the best there is.

    Am learning a lot

Mercer excels in education because it demands it from it students, while offering much help to reach the high expectations Mercer has set for them. There plenty of tutors and professors available regularly, as well as many computer labs and the extraordinary Tarver Library. Of course Mercer is no place to be fooling around at; if you decide to attend Mercer then you better be prepared to work hard.

If you are serious about becoming a doctor or lawyer, or an educator, this is the place for you. Engineering and Business do very well too, but personally I would not spend this much money to get a business degree from Mercer. Professional Tracks would be best suited for Mercer

    Tips for prospective students

Be yourself. I work in admissions and they are looking for individuality. There will be many people with the same grades and extra-curricular activities you have, so its important to show personality.

    Bang for the buck

While Mercer is expensive, they also give many scholarships. It is not an easy school to get into, but because of that it is an honor. To graduate from Mercer means you have accomplished quite a bit, and it will look great on a resume. The money spent here, is put to good use.

    Am enjoying being here

We work hard but we play hard as well. This is my home away from home. There is so much to do on and around campus it is hard to become homesick. On campus, we have Greek life, intramural sports, and several other clubs and religious groups. There is something for everyone. Quadworks, a student organization is in place to provide entertainment for students and the community. We provide in a BIG way. Whether its a foam party on the quad, or The Plain White T's having a concert, there is never a dull moment.

    Am learning a lot

I know, 5 stars seems a little extreme, but it is the truth. Classes here are rigorous, and very educational. We don't just sit in classrooms either. One of the best things about Mercer is its involvement in the community. As a freshman, you must take a first year seminar class that focuses on literature, volunteering, speech delivery, and becoming a well rounded adult. Classes here are amazing!

    Tips for prospective students

You should definitely visit the campus before you make a decision. When I saw Mercer for the first time, I fell in love with the school. You will also get a chance to meet some current students and speak with them about classes. Once I had a friend who came to Macon to preview Mercer and my professor allowed her to sit in on a class, so do that if you can! You'll get an idea of what's to come. Check out the list of Student Organizations! Mercer has a ton of stuff to do on campus. Whether you're into greek life, religious organizations, campus media, or a club sport, chances are we offer something for you here. http://studentaffairs.mercer.edu/campuslife/loader.cfm?csModule=security/getfile&PageID=14232 If you're a freshman boy, try to get a place in Roberts Hall. It's quieter than Plunkett and it doesn't flood. Go to Bear Fair the day before class starts. It will give you all the information you'll ever need about student organizations at Mercer. Bring a bathing suit. Mercer has two swimming pools on campus: Plunkett Pool behind the freshman boys' dormitories and the University Center Pool. Bring an umbrella. Yes. It rains here at college, too. Bring a microwave and mini-fridge. Caf food is good for the first month or two, but it gets old fast. For the best quiet studying, check out the 24-hour study room in the basement of Tarver Library. Tune in to Channel 99 anywhere on campus to watch MERCER99, the student-operated campus television station. They show new releases and student media. You can check out movies from the Media Center in the basement of Tarver Library. Go to Pilgrimage to Penfield! It's the best experience you can have as a freshman. It's an event put on by Mercer's Student Government Association every year that takes students back to where Mercer was founded. It's one of Mercer's biggest traditions, and a must-see for a new Mercerian.

    Bang for the buck

Mercer is pricey, no lie. It's also not a lie that the education you receive at Mercer is well worth the money. You spend four of the best years of your life on a beautiful campus. Mercer teaches you to love to learn. It goes so much further than the simplistic idea of a packaged education. Mercer professors encourage students to engage the world and continue to develop new ideas. You learn to question authority and test what you know to be the truth. Overall, is Mercer worth the money? Abso-freakin-lutely.

    Am enjoying being here

I am on my summer vacation away from Mercer. I've been away from campus for two weeks and I'm dying to get back. The friends you make at college are the friends you'll have for the rest of your life, but the people you meet at Mercer are intelligent, creative, enthusiastic leaders. Mercer offers a variety of extracurricular activities from athletics to club sports to honors fraternities to religious ministries. Mercer also has an amazing program called Mercer On Mission that offers volunteer and service opportunities.

    Am learning a lot

Mercer is the culmination of over 170 years of excellence in education. Since the 1800s, Mercer University has provided a top-notch education to Georgia natives and students abroad. The College of Liberal Arts is a great school. One of the best features of a Mercer education is the individualized attention students receive. In my experience at Mercer, I've yet to enroll in a class larger than 20 students. To put it simply, Mercer's professors care. If you need help, they will sit down with you and go through any questions you have. The Academic Resource Center is a tool that is utilized frequently at Mercer. It's a place to study, ask questions, have your papers reviewed, get tutoring, and it doesn't cost anything extra. The liberal arts curriculum has meant a new way of looking at things to me. The questions you are asked (especially in discussion-based sections like First Year Seminar) help you to form your own ideas about our lives and the people we encounter on a daily basis. It's an eye-opening experience to gain a Mercer education.

Great for these types of students

Mercer is perfect for students who are service-oriented, want to be actively involved on their campus and in their community and believe that education is not confined to the four walls of a classroom. Mercer is a university that is student oriented and a place where every student has a voice. If you are the type of student who wants to blend into the background, receive your degree and move on; then Mercer is not the university for you. Mercer is not only a university, it's a community; a community that cannot wait to welcome you!

    Tips for prospective students

    1. Visit campus. Some school's have fantastic websites but upon arrival to the campus, you say Their marketing department must be phenomenal, this is a letdown. In my personal opinion, a website doesn't do Mercer any justice. You will never be able to fully understand the atmosphere and culture of the campus until you visit! 2. Talk to current students! Current students are going to be honest with you about their university and provide a much more sincere explanation than a counselor. 3. Be open minded. You never know when you're going to stumble upon your perfect college if you do not look past your College Wants List. 4. Be honest with yourself! College is going to become your home away from home and therefore, you must LOVE it. Don't go somewhere just because the price is right, offers a program you are mildly interested in or because you like the football team. Go somewhere you can see yourself enjoying for four years!

    Bang for the buck

While the sticker price of Mercer might be a slightly overwhelming, 95% of students receive a merit scholarship to attend Mercer. I can't tell you of one person who pays full price to attend Mercer, so don't rule it out because of the price! The only reason I'm only giving it four stars is because campus housing can be a little more expensive when you become an upperclassmen.

    Am enjoying being here

Since arriving at Mercer in 2008, I've broke a world record, made fantastic friends, made personal relationships with my professors, watched the Bears play in the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship, traveled to Mercer's original campus, heard Jimmy Carter speak, been present for the press release informing Mercerians that we will be receiving a new football team, witnessed the impact College Hill Corridor has had upon our loving community and been able to Be the Bear. And that's just to name a few of my Mercer memories :)

    Am learning a lot

Mercer provides students' a comprehensive liberal arts education comprised of engaging discussions, service learning and professors who care about your overall well-being. Classes are primarily discussion based and allow for student input and one-on-one interaction with professors. Additionally, Mercer offers all of the amenities of a large research institution through its multiple pre-professional programs, engineering school, research opportunities and expert professors. Mercer also believes in a holistic approach to education; not only will you gain theoretical and academic knowledge but also practical knowledge through your work in the Macon community as well as the global community.

Great for these types of students

Mercer has an outstanding medical and pharmacy program. It also has one of the top engineering programs competing with Georgia Tech. It's great if you want to study in the health and engineering professions but Mercer has no limits to what you can study. Psychology, sociology, and music majors are successful at Mercer too!

    Tips for prospective students

Some tips for prospective students are to start searching for scholarships soon and fill out your FAFSA report early to possibly get more financial aid. Also attend all classes regularly, seek help through tutors and student aids and don't be shy to talk to your professor. Establish a relationship with your professors so they can help because they get paid to help. Try to find cheap books and do not sell them back to the bookstore! Try to set your own price and sell them to a student who is taking the class. Don't stress, but study hard and also stay involved!

    Bang for the buck

Although Mercer is quite expensive they do offer institutional aid and university scholarships. They give you a way to find scholarships and a work study job on campus to pay off tuition. In the end, it is worth it to obtain a Mercer degree. The prestige behind a Mercer degree will open many doors to opportunities in the future.

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy being here at Mercer. The campus is so lively with plenty of opportunities to get involved. Mercer offers Division 1 sports including basketball, baseball, and volleyball to name a few and also intramural sports to play year around just for fun. There are different musical productions, plays, and dance instruction. Student Government is big on campus as well as Quad Works which sponsors such events as iceless ice skating, Homecoming events, and parties. The best thing is going to the events and receiving free stuff called Mercer Swag!

    Am learning a lot

Mercer University has a very rigorous course selection especially for pre-professional tracks such as engineering, pharmacy, and medicine. The professors here at Mercer makes it easier to learn and there are a number of ways to get the help needed to succeed in a tough class. I have learned a tremendous amount in the classes I am taking and in just the school itself.

Great for these types of students

Those who want an academically inclined environment. Those who love something to do all the time. Those who want a relaxed atmosphere.

    Tips for prospective students

STANDARDIZED TEST SCORES! These are VERY important at Mercer.

    Bang for the buck

Mercer is absolutely expensive but they are semi-free with scholarships. If you go to Mercer you go there to get an exceptional educational experience. I personally find it worth the money.

    Will enjoy being here

I didn't feel out of place when I walked on campus. Everyone there is exceptionally nice and the students are in constant supply of things to do. I did a campus overnight stay and found out there's something to do on campus almost every other day whether it be a party or movie night.

    Will learn a lot

Mercer is a very rigorous school in academics. They take academically inclined individuals. I personally enjoy having a classroom setting around the size of a high school (20-30 kids) so I know I will be in an environment to learn a lot.

    Hardworking, fun-loving, and FOCUSED

    Tips for prospective students

Research. Do a visit as soon as possible. On our campus we have an overnight program in which prospective students can spend the night with students here and also sit in on a class to give a better idea of what it would be like.

    Bang for the buck

Mercer is a very expensive school, but you do get what you pay for. It is a very prestigious school. A degree from Mercer carries weight, so if you graduate from here than you have accomplished a lot. They also have good food and a lot of other free stuff to balance out the money you spend.

    Am enjoying being here

I love it here. Everyone is friendly and welcoming. Because the campus is so small, its very easy to meet a lot of people and get to know them. There is always something to do on campus. We have a plethora of sororities and fraternities to choose from. There are also several different clubs and groups to join. Many intramural sports and also a ref position if you're not very athletically inclined but still love sports.

    Am learning a lot

Here at Mercer the professors really want you to succeed. They will help you if you ask for the help and there are also a TON of tutors on campus if they are needed. The classes are smaller so that you can be helped individually if needed.

Great for these types of students

Mercer is great for students who do not want to attend a gigantic school. I have Mercer described as small enough to always know someone yet big enough to always be meeting new people.

    Tips for prospective students

For students who are unsure about whether or not Mercer is a good fit, sign up for the Overnighter program. Mercer will pair you with a current student that you stay the night with, eat meals with, and go to class with, which will truly give you a feel for the Mercer environment.

    Bang for the buck

Mercer is definitely an extremely expensive school. However, they offer huge amounts of scholarships to students. They gave away around 100 Presidential Scholarships for this year's class alone. It is definitely worth applying to see how much financial aid they will offer.

    Am enjoying being here

One of the greatest things about Mercer is that there is always some kind of on-campus activity going on. For example, they will rent out a local movie theater so that all college students can come watch a movie for only 2 bucks. Mercer's intramural sports system is fantastic: there is a league for almost every sport. All-in-all, it is very difficult to remain bored on campus.

    Am learning a lot

Most classes are between 10 and 20 students, so you will get to know your teacher very well. Learning is so much easier in these small classes because everyone is involved in discussing and challenging ideas.

Great for these types of students

Those who love community service Those who are dedicated to working hard Those who want a smallish school where everyone is so welcoming Those who want an awesome college experience!!!

    Tips for prospective students

Be prepared to work hard! I was very fortunate in high school because I rarely studied, but made excellent grades. However during my first year at Mercer, I honestly studied every moment I had. In addition, no matter what college you go to, stay true to yourself. Unfortunately, you may find that the transition from high school to college is harder than you think.

    Bang for the buck

Mercer is a private school, and therefore it is quite expensive, but don't let that scare you away. Mercer gives out amazing academic scholarships! Plus, you can always search around Cappex to find additional scholarships.

    Am enjoying being here

Mercer is the perfect place for me. I am so happy with Mercer because of it's service based learning: one of Mercer's slogans is At Mercer, everyone majors in changing the world. If you are someone who likes to serve others, Mercer is the place for you. In addition, Mercer has great religious organizations, clubs, intramurals, and greek life. Mercer also has an awesome club that is dedicated to bringing fun activities to campus such as water gun fights, laser tag, and Bearstock which featured the band 3Oh!3.

    Am learning a lot

I have learned so much from Mercer, both academically and through life lessons that have helped me grow as an individual. The professors here are amazing; they really take time to get to know each student on a personal level. I love how the classes are small with about 15-25 students.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for students who like the one-on-one, smaller class sizes.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't wait until the last minute to start looking for financial aid. The earlier you start researching, the better scholarships will be available to you.

    Bang for the buck

Mercer is completely worth the cost. Also, they make it worth your while to pay that much because they are equally as helpful for providing each student with the best financial aid package possible. I love it and think it is a worthy investment.

    Am enjoying being here

I love living on campus in Macon. The only drawback to the Macon campus is when you leave the college town you have to be aware that there is a lot of crime in the area and need to be smart to prevent putting yourself in vulnerable situations. If you are smart, you will be okay.

    Am learning a lot

I love the classes here. They are small enough to get to know your professors. Also, I love that the classwork is challenging but not completely overwhelming for me. Help is offered and encouraged in a variety of ways from talking to your professors to study groups to tutoring.

    Campus Safety

The Mercer Police, or MerPo, does an amazing job at keeping the campus safe. In addition, the dorms are equipped with locks that only students can open, in order to prevent outsiders from entering.

    Greek Life

There are plenty of sororities and fraternities for one to get involved with on campus. Our Greek Life has won many awards for charity work and high GPAs.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many ways to get involved on campus. If you're not involved in anything, you really have to be trying not to get involved.

Great for these types of students

Academic, outgoing, and community service oriented are some just to name a few.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There are many special traditions such as rubbing the Jesse Mercer statue as a freshman for luck and then as a graduate for luck in future endeavors.

    Bang for the buck

Mercer is costly but most students coming in are able to get scholarships. I'm currently paying the same or even less than anyone that is attending UGA or GA Tech. Mercer is well worth the money.

    What to do for fun

There is plenty to do on campus. Between intramural sports, midnight movies, sporting events, you will never be bored. In addition, there is plenty to do in Macon. :)

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria at Mercer is outstanding and if you don't find anything you like there, there are plenty of restaurants on and around campus.

    Dorm Life

The freshman dorms are not that great but they are liveable. I mostly use mine for sleeping as I'm in class, studying, or hanging out with friends for the majority of my time.

    Academic Rigor

Mercer is known for its quality education. The classes can be rough but as long as you don't procrastinate and study you will be fine. Every class though is taught by a professor, unlike some major schools. Mercer also offers the Great Books program which can replace the common core requirements.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure that you visit the campus before committing. Talk with potential professors, students currently attending, and your admissions counselor.

    In three sentences

Mercer University is a great college for students who want academic rigor, professors who know their names, and a place to meet all kinds of people.

    Campus Safety

MerPo, Mercer's campus security, is just a call away. They are usually found patrolling the campus at night.

    Greek Life

There is something for everyone. A lot of people participate in Greek Life but everyone is friendly with each other regardless of the sorority or fraternity they are in.

Great for these types of students

Mercer is great for people who like a strong sense of community and being able to interact with their peers. It is also great for students who like to be academically challenged.

    What to do for fun

Usually you can have fun just hanging around the dorms or chilling in the caf. On weeknights people usually hit up the local clubs or greek parties on campus. Some clubs people usually go to are Asylum, Envy, and Power Station.

    Food and Dining

The food at Mercer's caf is alright. Sometimes they have good food but usually the food is just ok. The UC has Chick fil a, Subway, Burger Studio, sushi, and other snacks that can be purchased with dining dollars which are included in your meal plan.

    Dorm Life

The dorms may not be the best of the best, but there are always people around who like to goof off and have fun throughout the dorm halls.

    Academic Rigor

Mercer has difficult classes that require you to study and get extra help if needed from SI sessions.

    Tips for prospective students

Look for lots of scholarships; Mercer is pretty expensive. If you're looking for a small school where you like to know your professors and everyone around you then Mercer is a good pick!

    In three sentences

Mercer University is a challenging college with rigorous courses. The college is a small college with a very friendly vibe and people always looking to hang out and have fun. Mercer's programs prepare you for the real world if you are successful and do not give up.

    Campus Safety

The Mercer Police (or MerPo, as we call them) is amazing. They are understanding, efficient, fast, and competent.

    Greek Life

I'm not Greek, but the Greek people here are typically friendly and nice.

    Clubs and Activities

There are soooooo many activities to fit ANYONE'S wants and needs. Several clubs exist, and you can even apply to create your own if you want to!

Great for these types of students

Dedicated, hard-working studying people; people who just get it - who don't have to try too hard to understand and remember material.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

As a freshman, you go to the top of The Tower and sign your name! Also, during Freshman Convocation, you walk by the Jesse Mercer statue and touch its head. (You also do this at graduation; it comes full circle.)

    Bang for the buck

While overall you get so much for your money, certain aspects seem to rob you. For example, freshmen are required to have an unlimited meal plan - the most expensive... and some people don't even eat three meals a day. In terms of housing, the rooms are too crappy to cost as much as they do. Tuition itself, however, covers so many academic and recreational activities, all worthwhile.

    What to do for fun

Hang with friends casually, go downtown, go to Greek Row (but remember that this is a DRY campus!!!), participate in the various on-campus activities that Mercer's Quadworks provides on a practically weekly basis.

    Food and Dining

Mercer received a new food company this year, and it really isn't that bad, but it is apparently terrible compared to the food company of years past. However, options outside of the cafeteria are great - Subway, Chick-fil-A, Burger Studio, and miscellaneous restaurants adjacent to campus.

    Dorm Life

My rating comes from my own personal dorm experience as a freshman. I live in Plunkett Hall, which is the WORST of all Mercer dorms - and it costs extremely too much money for its terrible quality. It is constantly smelly and dirty, and every room is cramped, small, and unfitting.

    Academic Rigor

A lot of classes are extremely difficult and require dedication to studies, but the occasional easy class can be found.

    Tips for prospective students

Be sure to come into this university ready to study! Of course, allow yourself some fun on the weekends, but be ready to work hard to earn your grades.

    In three sentences

Mercer is an excellent small and efficient university with a caring staff, an embracing student body, and an amazing opportunity for developing one's potential. The small class sizes, understanding professors, and hard-working fellow classmates make this school amazing. Additionally, the university itself provides so many events for students that are fun, educational, and worthwhile.

    Campus Safety

Even though its located on a rougher side of town Mercer Police is always ready to handle a situation although most situations don't even happen to begin with.

    Greek Life

Be prepared to some surprises when seeing the Greeks, many of them are not what you expect!(In a good AND bad way)

    Clubs and Activities

For a small campus, there are so many clubs available to join so anyone can find something to be involved in.

Great for these types of students

Students who prefer the smaller atmosphere, wants to be academically challenged, and prefers to be in a family-like community.

Climbing the tower involves students climbing to the top of our tower and signing their name somewhere.

    Bang for the buck

Mercer gives great scholarships but be prepared to still shell out a good bit of money. Also make sure financial aid does what you want them to because they CAN mess up your money.

    What to do for fun

Downtown doesn't have much so mostly club hopping on weekends and there's various activities on campus throughout the week. But it can get pretty boring sometimes so find friends on campus who are willing to be bored with you!

    Food and Dining

The food is great on some days.....other days not so much. But you can always find something to munch on.(usually)

    Dorm Life

Dorms aren't all that bad but beware of ants! Plus every once in awhile a roach but it is still generally very clean and comfortable. Res life are lifesavers, call them and things get fixed the next day.

    Academic Rigor

Classes can be difficult but professors and other students are always willing to help. Plus with the small classes, it is easier to become engaged with the learning.

    Tips for prospective students

Be prepared to work! and it is not a large university so don't expect a party every day.

    In three sentences

It's a small school where everyone knows everybody else in some kind of way. However, it's still very diverse and academically will challenge you. It's a great school for everybody.

    What to do for fun

In Macon, there are tons of things to do. Not only does Mercer have many campus activities to be apart of but there are bars, clubs, parks, parties, and anything else a young college student away from home would want to participate in. Macon is never a boring city and with friends by your side you will never be bored.

    Food and Dining

The caf food is, depending on the day, is okay, but I believe that every college will say the same. However, we do have the University Center that has three fast food restaurants to choose from and that is where many of the students go to eat on a daily basis.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are not the best in the world by no means so the quality of the dorms should really be rated three stars out of five but I give the dorm life rating four out of five because of the people on your hall. Each person in the dorm bonds on a large level and become the best of friends. You will hear people down the hall saying that who needs Greek Life when we have our own little Fraternity or Sorority of our own, and this is very true. You will see not only a room's actual inhabitants but many other people as well because we are all very friendly and inviting. Dorm life is definitely a needed experience.

    Academic Rigor

The academics depending on your major will decide on whether your classes will be hard or difficult. As an engineer, we are enrolled into some of the most rigorous classes on campus, but other students not engineering may have an easier time in college because their classes are not as full of math and science.

    Tips for prospective students

As an upcoming student, they need to know that this university is very expensive but each dollar will pay off in the long run. Each student will also be put to the test in stimulating classes but will leave the class knowing more and understanding more than when they entered the classroom. The main point before entering or enrolling into this university is that each student needs to prepare during the summer or the break before their first semester in Khan Academy or some other learning institute to get a jump on their classes in order to be better prepared for the difficulty. Other than that enjoy your experience at the campus and enjoy your time here and get involved into Greek Life or other clubs.

    In three sentences

I believe this school is one of the best private schools in the south and gives each student a specialized learning atmosphere that not many other universities or colleges can do. I am pursuing a career as a Biomedical Engineer with a double minor in Chinese and Spanish and Mercer University in my opinion is the college that will provide me with the learning experience to accomplish my goals. Not only will I have made wonderful connections in my time here at Mercer to ultimately help me along my way and give me powerful friends, but I will also have obtained the skills needed to be a successful engineer.

    Campus Safety

A lot of Mercer students get a bit stuck up when it comes to the surrounding area. They think it's so dangerous and sketchy. It's not. Macon is a community that struggles with poverty but that does not make it dangerous. Like anywhere in this world, you need to be smart and aware of your surroundings. I never had any trouble with safety at Mercer and if you are smart about it, you won't either. The Mercer Police are generally nice and out roaming the campus.

    Greek Life

Not being Greek myself, I must admit the Greek life at Mercer is different from most school but in a good way. The Greek men and women that I knew were nice people who were involved on campus. Greek life isn't for everyone, but at Mercer it's not terrible either.

    Clubs and Activities

There is something for everyone! Go find what you are interested in and get involved! It makes the whole experience fun and worthwhile.

    What to do for fun

Bearstock is fun and the Cherry Blossom festival is great. Also there are shopping centers not too far from campus (my favorite is Riverside Crossing) as well as a movie theater. Midnight movie is a MUST for any Mercer student. I mean, $2 for a movie at midnight, it speaks for itself.

    Food and Dining

The Caf is okay for being a freshman, but the UC is where it's at! Chick fil a, Subway, and Burger Studio are great. Also, Macon has some good spots to eat. McAllister's, Sakura, Papouli's Greek Dining, and Bear Foot Tavern. Some really good places in the area.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life at Mercer could be better, but let's face it: it's a COLLEGE DORM not the Ritz Carlton. It was fine for what it was, and getting to know the people around you is fun. Get to know people, use your space wisely! And if possible, get one of the Garden Apartments :)

    Academic Rigor

The professors at Mercer are mostly wonderful. I know the professors in the English Department are absolutely incredible! They are challenging, highly intelligent, and very passionate about the classes they teach. Every one of them is friendly and I love them all! The classes themselves were highly challenging, you have to put in some serious effort to get good grades. People joke about English being an easy major, but here it really isn't so easy for any major.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved! Mercer is an incredible place with a lot of opportunities, but you have to go seek them! Also, be prepared to work because Mercer can be very tough depending on what you are going for.

    In three sentences

I love Mercer. It is a great school and a beautiful campus. Do yourself a favor and at least check out the campus!

    Bang for the buck

Mercer is really expensive, and it can be frustrating when there are financial aid mix ups. But over all, it's totally worth it.

    Am enjoying being here

I absolutely love Mercer's campus. It's large enough that you don't feel trapped, but it's small enough that everything is in close proximity to where ever you are standing on campus. The campus life is pretty great. We have things like Bearstock, where they bring headlining bands to play for the day. The people are great. It's a good environment.

    Am learning a lot

Since Mercer is a relatively small school, you will have a lot of one on one opportunities with Professors. Because of this, Professors tend to be more involved in their students lives. Constant interaction with my professors makes me want to make them proud. Ultimately, they push me to learn the most I can and to take advantage of the resources that Mercer offers.

Great for these types of students

Mercer is great for students who want a small school atmosphere, want to get to know professors, and know a lot of people around campus. Campus is completely walkable, no need for buses, bikes, or scooters. It is also in a good location, about 1 hr 30 mins from atlanta, 2hr 30 mins from savannah, auburn, and athens.

    Tips for prospective students

Be open minded and come out of your comfort zone. It took me almost a year to become comfortable and I know that I missed out on making some great friends and experiencing some great things.

    Bang for the buck

Mercer is pretty expensive but it is well know and a good education. There are many scholarships available from the school and almost everyone receives academic money.

    Am enjoying being here

I am a member of the Mercer Women's Soccer team so I love being involved around campus. I am friends with people from all walks of life, and it is very easy to get involved even if you aren't an athlete or don't want to join a frat or sorority. There is everything from religious groups to science clubs. If you can't find something you like at Mercer then you can start your own club.

    Am learning a lot

Mercer has been called the Harvard of the South and I believe it. I have experience some of the most challenging classes of my life here at Mercer but I know that in the end they will pay off. The professors are excited about what they are teaching. A lot of them have had experience in the real world and they share that experience with us.

Great for these types of students

Students that aren't looking to be lost in the crowd, that want to engage the community around them, and leave with more of a family than a bunch of nameless faces.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply for as many scholarships as possible. Mercer is not cheap, but it definitely worth it.

    Bang for the buck

Definitely a bang for your buck, small classes sizes which make for more personable learning and instruction.

    Am enjoying being here

I am definitely enjoying my time here. Not too much to do around town, but things are starting to pick up. We're getting our football team back in the Fall of 2013 (I'll be gone by then), but its exciting for prospective students. The people are amazing here, almost like a small family.

    Am learning a lot

The professors expect a lot from you, but they also help you to reach your goals if you ask. You are not just a number here. You're able to create a personal relationship with many people, professors, mentors, and also your advisers.

Great for these types of students

Looking for a family to fit into. You will walk 5 minutes across campus and run into at least 3 people that you know. There is no football team to cheer on, but I am so glad that I made real friends rather than going to a large school where people just walk past you as if you are not there.

    Tips for prospective students

This school is amazing. If you are interested in a growing Christian community, you will find so much growth from so many different people here. The student ministries are amazing and have helped me grow so much and make some lifelong friends.

    Bang for the buck

This is a very expensive school. If you have scholarships, GREAT! Be careful not to get too excited when they send you a scholarship that covers tuition, but then later you find out that you have to pay some pretty high prices for those small freshman dorms, along with a required unlimited meal plan. Things start to add up fairly quickly.

    Did enjoy being here

The first two years you are required to live on campus unless you are a commuting student from the area. This means that you are stuck on campus with people who are your age and have similar interests. The campus life is thriving. You see all of your friends in the cafeteria, and the number of students doesn't leave you a stranger if you are not in Greek life.

    Did learn a lot

The professors at Mercer are phenomenal. They do care about your education, and they do have time for you. Class sizes are small because it is a private school. This means that you don't have to deal with a TA for your classes.

    Am learning a lot

This is one of the most prestigious colleges in Georgia, if not the country. I have been challenged every day, and it has many services to help out its students. They are very student oriented when it comes to their education. Also, the mainly smaller classes help the professors teach us better because they can meet with us one on one when needed. The only thing that I disagree with in this school is its shakey morals. After fleeing from the Southern Baptist Convention, they have been very lax on some of their policies around campus for which they used to be commended for. Strictly talking about classes, it is a great learning opportunity.

I was able to visit their engineering department for their annual engineering scholarship search. Loved the vast sum of labs and other hands on equipment they had set up for the students. Though the senior personal concept projects grasped my attention. as a senior you design and create said device that could and usually will be applied and introduced into the real world.

My tip is to find an upperclassmen and have them teach you the ways of Mercer, its hard to navigate otherwise. Also don't be afraid to ask questions, people are nice, understanding, and most of all they are their to help. Last thing, work hard but remember to have fun.

    Bang for the buck

Mercer is a rather expensive College, but they give out a lot of scholarships to make up for it. The campus is lovely but their are certain things around campus that can be improved upon. There are some cost that don't make sense, such as paying $3.50 for a recyclable eat out container from the Cafeteria. All in all though most of it is worth it, especially the education and the reputation that comes from being a Mercer graduate.

    Am enjoying being here

The Macon campus is beautiful and the people are nice. The only problem is if you are without a car, things are a little far away, such as walmart and what not.

    Am learning a lot

All of the Professors are very talented and helpful. If you need further explanation they are willing to help out, its your education they are there to insure you learn everything you need to know. They are all fairly friendly, kind and willing to help.

    Greek Life

I, myself, am apart of Greek life at Mercer. I am a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. The Greek life is good. You always have your rivalries no matter where you go.

    Clubs and Activities

There are organizations available for everyone. Mercer is always open for new ideas if you want.

    What to do for fun

Join organizations that you are interested in. Tour downtown Macon, but do not go alone. Take a group of friends and have fun.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria food is not the best, but they do have a lot of options for everyone (including vegetarians). The food in the University Center is good. As always, do not eat too much and workout regularly.

    Dorm Life

    Academic Rigor

I am not going to lie. The classes are pretty hard but I know you are able to do it because Mercer would not have admitted you if you did not have the potential.

Second, find out where your classes out before the first day of classes because you don't want to be late on your first day. Fourth, get to know upperclassmen in your particular major because they can help guide you with classes and such.

    What to do for fun

For fun there seems to be something to do everyday! You just have to make it worthwhile. :) There's also a really cool movie night at a local movie theater which hosts Midnight Movie and plays all the newest movies! We only have to pay $2 with your college id!

    Food and Dining

Food could be better in the caf as well but they seem to always try to improve it if we have a problem which is a good sign. Just do not pay for an unlimited meal plan if you do not plan to eat there all the time. We do have a food court in the UC that has miniature restaurants as well as Mercer Village which has a variety of restaurants as well.

    Dorm Life

Dorms could be better! But that is specifically for Freshmen dorms. On up in your years of Mercer you will see great living arrangements. I myself am excited about the Lofts for my Junior year!

    Academic Rigor

Academically you will have many great professors who are willing to help you, but then you will have professors who will care less. Always try to get to know your professors so they will remember you as a PERSON and not just an ID NUMBER!

    Tips for prospective students

Keep your GPA up! It is a hassle to keep a 3.0 once you have lost it. Always choose work first before partying because in the end, your friends aren't the ones paying for your tuition! You are!

This school is great for students looking for a small college where you know pretty much everyone there.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is a tower on campus that all the freshman students get to go up in. They get to sign their name and see all of the signatures of past students from decades ago. The tower overlooks all of Macon and the view is beautiful.

    Bang for the buck

Mercer is very expensive. Honestly, you would be better off going to a cheaper state college where you would still get a great education without the steep tuition.

    What to do for fun

Macon is not a very exciting place. There really is not much to do around campus. However, Mercer does hold some fun events and also has intramural sports which are really fun.

    Food and Dining

The food is not great. It gets very repetitive and does not taste very good. Also, there are not a lot of healthy options.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are well kept. For the most part they stay pretty quiet.

    Academic Rigor

The academic rigor mainly depends on the classes you take and your major. I am a biology major so many of my classes are very difficult and require a great time commitment. However, the professors are always there to help you with challenging topics.

    Tips for prospective students

Mercer is very expensive so map out your finances before deciding to go so that you do not graduate with a ton of debt.

    Campus Safety

Mercer is an open campus, meaning that anyone can walk in off the street. Given its location in the middle of a low-income neighborhood, this can become a bit dangerous after nightfall. However, Mercer police do an excellent job in maintaining campus safety. Students may call the MerPo station at any time, day or night, and ask for a police escort back to their dorms or cars.

Great for these types of students

Mercer is ideal for students who have worked hard throughout high school and desire to continue to excel academically in their college careers.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Every year, freshmen climb to the top of our administration building, where they graffiti their names and class years on the building. It is a long-running tradition, allowing Mercerians to see the names of those who came before them.

    Bang for the buck

As a private school, Mercer is ridiculously expensive. However, its reputation makes a Mercerian degree worth more than the same degree from a lesser school.

    What to do for fun

Mercer has an unbelievable number of extracurricular groups and activities. Intramural sports are available for students who do not wish to make a large time commitment to sports; religious life groups often meet weekly at restaurants around Macon; various clubs tailored to particular interests allow students to engage in the activities they love the most. Also, if a student feels a need for a new club or organization, he can create one.

    Food and Dining

Students who live on campus are required to purchase a meal plan. It is largely considered a waste of money, because the food in the cafeteria is usually subpar. Fortunately, there are many restaurants in nearby Mercer Village, and many more dining options in Macon itself. The University Center also offers Chickfila, Subway, and snack foods. Meal plans come with Dining Dollars, which can be used to pay for these.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is not typically a great experience, but Mercer does its best to make it enjoyable. My RA usually plans weekly events for our hall; these include seminars on various topics, community service projects, and simply nights to hang out in the lounge.

    Academic Rigor

On average, as a freshman taking 15 credit hours, I spend 10-12 hours per week doing homework. Mercer is known for its academic programs for good reason. You will do well academically if you are willing to devote the necessary time to your studies. Also, for any student who is struggling with a course, the Academic Resource Center provides free tutoring services.

    Tips for prospective students

Become involved in community service early in your high school career. Mercer focuses heavily on service learning, and involvement in your community will cause your application to stand out. Also, heavily research the school before you make a major commitment. This school is expensive, and it is important to be sure that it is the school for you before you enroll.

    In three sentences

Mercer University combines success in academics with involvement with community service and an active social life. Students work hard, but they also play hard. The school is a diverse place where anyone can find his own personal home away from home.

Mercer Police(MerPo) does a great job at keeping the campus safe, and crime on campus almost never happens. Some people are intimidated by Macon, but there is no reason to feel that way. Just keep your street smarts, have a bud at all times and you'll be fine.

    Greek Life

Being involved with Greek life at Mercer has been a very rewarding experience. I am a brother of the Alpha-Beta chapter of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity, and know that it is one of the best decisions that I have ever made. Mercer's Greek like has a very unique culture, and the Greek GPA is higher than the unaffiliated GPA.

    Clubs and Activities

There is over 180 student organizations on campus, and if you still feel the need to start another one, you can! Here's the link to a page that has a listing of all of the organizations that we have. http://studentaffairs.mercer.edu/campuslife/org_list.cfm

Great for these types of students

Even after you completely expend yourself to your classes, but still seem to find yourself bored, you'll fit in here. Mercerians have the tendency to be involved and fully engaged in everything they do. Mercerians aren't just students; we are world-changers.

There's Pilgrimage to Penfield in the fall, the Christmas Tree Lighting in December, Founder's Fay in the spring, along with BearStock(Mercer's rendition of Woodstock.) The Jesse Mercer statue in the center of campus is something that we hold dear, and when you get to sign your name at the top of the Administration Building, you can see all of the campus and even past Macon. Mercer has a very strong history that is celebrated throughout the year.

    Bang for the buck

Although it is quite expensive at first glance, Mercer is not stingy about scholarships if you they think you deserve to be here. I pay for my own schooling, but I still find ways to get money. Getting a degree from Mercer is a hard-earned title, so the money you spend will most definitely comeback to you in greater amounts.

    What to do for fun

Macon is full of things to do: the trick is, is that you have to go out there and explore. There is a very wide variety of organizations on campus, and Greek life is great.

    Food and Dining

The meal plans are quite expensive, and the food is not bad...but it definitely is not good. However, being the son of a father who is a baker and a mom who cooked dinner every night made me have higher expectations of food than most people.

    Dorm Life

All in all, housing is not terrible. It is quite pricey, but they are trying to fix everything up as Mercer is going through some major physical changes.

    Academic Rigor

Mercer's not your average college...it's hard. You are academically challenged in every way, especially if you push yourself. However, you are only taught by professors with a doctorate, and they are always there to help you through.

    Tips for prospective students

Unless you truly feel like you can handle the academic challenges of Mercer, it may not be the place for you. I have had a few friends who struggled to make the GPA to be accepted into Mercer, then be miserable when they got here because they were stressed out all of the time. Come and see the campus and do an overnight visit with Mercer University's Office of Admissions before you decide to enroll.

    In three sentences

Mercer University is a smaller, private school that is academically challenging while maintaining a holistic approach to education. Students enjoy the benefits of a smaller school with all of the opportunities of large universities. Mercer is a place where I found my identity, and I hope that others can find it here too.

    Campus Safety

Before I got to Mercer I worried about walking at night to and from the cafeteria at night but when I got there I seen how the campus was well lit at night and so it was fine.

    What to do for fun

One thing about the school is there is always something going on like basketball games, soccer games, theater plays and game nights. Everything is fun and most of the time the events offer free food which a lot of people enjoy.

    Food and Dining

The food is good especially when they have theme nights where they cook different kinds of food. However, once you've eating everything you tired of going to the cafeteria. Though the school does have a chick-fil-a, subway, and a burger place on campus which is really good which gives students a choice to choose the cafeteria or these food places. They also have a store on campus where you can buy things from toilet tissue to frozen burritos.

    Dorm Life

The dorm life was very enjoyable; the rooms were clean other than a few marks on the walls. Most of the time me and my roommates kept to ourselves but we were all friendly with each other, sometimes we would talk about school and how everything was going. The RA on our floor was real cool he tried to remember all of our names but it was kind of hard.

    Academic Rigor

The work loads are not too much whereas you are stressed all the time but they are enough to the point where you are able to get them done and keep up your grade point average.

    Tips for prospective students

I would recommend buying your books after the first day of class because the teachers are very diligent in letting you know which books are the right ones to purchase. Also, once you receive the syllabus for all classes try and get a planner and write down when assignments are due so that way you are not overwhelmed a couple of days before it is due, this way you get them done in advice. Lastly, make sure to get feedback from your teachers on how you are doing in the class instead of waiting till it is too late.

    In three sentences

I would rate Mercer a five out of five. It is a great school to attend the class sizes are small which gives students more of an advantage because you can get one on one with the teachers if necessary. The teachers are very helpful and they make sure you succeed not only in the classroom but with other things as well.

    Clubs and Activities

There are lots of clubs and activities for students to join! If there's something you're interested in, Mercer will have it and if they don't, students are encouraged to start a club of their own.

    Bang for the buck

It's very expensive but well worth it especially if you're pursuing a career in Business, Medicine, or engineering.

    Food and Dining

Food and dining is okay. When you're a freshman, you have to get an unlimited meal plan. You're allowed to go to the cafeteria as often as you like. You get 200 dining dollars that you can spend in the University Center food court or Bear Necessities. The downsides are that the Caf is notorious for having bad food.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is pretty good. There is freshman housing which consists of MEP, Plunkett, and Shorter. MEP is an all girl dorm, Plunkett is all boys, and Shorter is mixed. Plunkett has a reputation for being smelly. Dorms for upper class men consist of Sherwood, Mercer Hall, Shorter, Garden Apartments, and Adam WInship Apartments. There is definitely a lot of fun to be had when you're living in the dorms. The RAs are frequently making events for the residents to participate in.

    Academic Rigor

Mercer University is a school that thrives on academic success. The teachers are very knowledgeable and go out of their way to teach their students. You have to work hard and earn your grades, they won't be given to you.

Do not attend the campus in Macon but keep in mind it is Macon. My suggestion is to make friends and get involved in school activities.

    Food and Dining

There is dining locations on the campus. You will always find something to snack on or enjoy a nice casual meal.

    Dorm Life

I do not live in Dorms so I can not comment but have read some excellent reviews.

    Academic Rigor

Every class though is taught by a professor, unlike some major schools. They have multiple Tutor programs available if you feel you needed. The professor are there to assist you as well. The class size are small which makes it easier to adapt and get the quality education you are looking for. Mercer also offers the Great Books program which can replace the common core requirements.

    Tips for prospective students

Always do research, talk to current students, visit the campus. Have an open mind and DO NOT choose a university based on cost. You must love or have some love and enjoyment in your heart as you will spend the next 4 plus years studying in that environment. You will work hard at Mercer but you will get a quality education from professors that care about your success. This is for adult students as well as traditional high school to college students. For students who are unsure about whether or not Mercer is a good fit, sign up for the Overnight program. Mercer will pair you with a current student that you stay the night with, eat meals with, and go to class with, which will truly give you a feel for the Mercer environment.

    In three sentences

    Campus Safety

One thing I can definitely attest to about Mercer is that this campus is one of the safest campuses I have ever visited. The Mercer Police officers are constantly checking to make sure that the campus is safe and suitable for students to walk, run, chill out, and just be college students. There hasn't been one instance where I've felt unsafe here.

    Greek Life

Greek Life at Mercer is amazing! I'll leave it at that. ;)

    What to do for fun

There are plenty of ways to get involved on campus and have fun! Trust me when I say there is an organization that fits everyone's character on campus. You just have to find what works best for you.

    Food and Dining

The Mercer Cafe' is amazing! Not only is the food absolutely delicious, but it is also healthy! During my stay at Mercer, I've gotten to know many of the staff members in the cafeteria. Oh, and guess what? It's buffet style! So, if you find something that you really like, you can eat as much of it as you'd like. Also, in the University Center there is a Chick-Fil-A, a Subway, and Burger Studio just in case you ever need to catch a meal after 8:30 p.m.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is all about LIVING. When you live on campus, you get the real college experience 24/7. You may or may not have a roommate, but you still live in an environment with a diverse group of people. Living on campus in the dorms is a way of networking and connecting with other people that may share the same classification as you or people that share similar interests. Make connections and make new friends during your stay on campus! It makes it more interesting.

    Academic Rigor

Mercer's academic rigor on a scale of 1-10 would definitely be an 8 or 9. The courses (depending on your major) can be quite challenging. However, the closer you get to your degree, the more challenging it gets. Don't let that overwhelm you! There are a number of study sessions, supplemental instruction sessions, and tutoring sessions available to all students. Each of the study groups provide a comfortable learning environment for the students so they can really focus on their studies.

    Tips for prospective students

As a tip for prospective students, be prepared for the time of your life. The rigorous academics at Mercer challenge you to do your very best. Never be too afraid to ask for help! There are a number of tutoring and study sessions available outside of class time to help you excel in your classes. Be prompt about deadlines, and try to get your work done in a reasonable amount of time before the actual due date. It will benefit you more to not procrastinate. Also, explore the different student organizations that the campus has to offer. Don't be afraid to get involved and show your school spirit! College is about taking that extra step in your life to prepare for your career. Don't spend your time stressing. You can be academically successful and have fun, too!

    In three sentences

    Campus Safety

I feel that it is important to write this because Mercer may have a bad rep after a past event that I wont go into details about. Sure, things happen. They happen on EVERY campus. And if you say your campus is 100 percent safe, you're probably lying. That being said, there are lights everywhere, MerPo will escort you if you feel unsafe, there are emergency phones, and literally every building is like on lockdown. You cannot get into certain buildings without a passcode or an ID. If you leave the doors open too long, an alarm goes off. In the campus apartments above the CCJ, you need a card to USE THE ELEVATOR. It is super safe. And on top of all that, people can't really drive through Mercer campus like they used to be able to. It's safe there. But since it's not mainly a college town, you can't be stupid. Hope this helped!

    Greek Life

Greek life isn't for me but I know people involved in it and I've seen that it's not all fun and games. It has it's serious moments. They also are really involved in the community. That's one thing about Mercer: by the time you leave, you will have participated in some community service project. Although it is said to be a dry campus, alcohol is kind of easily accessible soooo.. It really varies person to person on that. I haven't observed any craaazzzyy drinking parties but I'm sure it happens

    Clubs and Activities

There are the typical clubs like in every college/university then they have a lot of oddball clubs. There's something for everyone, rest assured

Great for these types of students

Innovators, hard workers, the type of person who wants to do something in life

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Rubbing Jesse Mercer's head and signing the bell tower

    Bang for the buck

Definitely worth the money. Mercer has a lot of weight in its name. So if you get the chance, I'd say go for it!

    What to do for fun

Most of the fun stuff is on campus in my opinion. Mercer has so many clubs and organizations that it's hard to get bored. But Mercer does sponsor a lot of off campus events. They're doing a lot for Macon. In the Spring we have Bearstok, there are tons of other concerts and festivals going on and Macon has shopping, movies, bookstores, museums, tanning, etc. Pretty much everything you want is either in Macon or in a nearby city

    Food and Dining

The food is good. It can't beat home cooking of course but it's decent. There are a couple on campus restaurants and obviously you're gonna get sick of it at some point. Macon has several restaurants to try and if that doesn't do it, Warner Robins isn't too far away. My favorite places to eat on campus are Ingleside Village Pizza (technically it's off campus I think) and Subway. There's also Jittery Joe's. It's the best

    Dorm Life

Not gonna lie, the underclassmen dorms kinda suck. But that's the case with a lot of colleges. Usually the upperclassmen get the newer stuff! The dorms are kinda cramped at times but you can make the most of it. The campus apartments are AMAZING. I stayed in them for a week and DID NOT want to leave. They're so nice! The rooms are big, the kitchen is updated, and I feel safe. My only complaints would be with the key cards. Sometimes they don't work.. And the floors upstairs in the hallway. They look.. unfinished. Other than that, they're perfect and I'd love to come back to them.

    Academic Rigor

From what I've noticed (and I've been to Mercer sooooo many times) is that the curriculum is challenging but you can do it. I sat in on an intermediate macroeconomics class and caught on to what the teacher was teaching within a few minutes! The professors are typically interactive and know your face

    Tips for prospective students

Visit the campus. The overnighter program is so fun. You get to find out what it's really like. The college students you live with don't put on an act for very long. You can see the real Mercer. Also, I'd maybe recommend bringing a car to campus. I'm not a fan of public transportation. Finally, show interest in the school. If you email back and forth with them and visit often, etc. it can sometimes give you an edge if your grades aren't quite there.

    In three sentences

Mercer is a small school where you don't feel overwhelmed but you aren't seeing the same people everyday. It isn't in the BEST location but Mercer makes it fun anyway. There's something for everyone.

Campus safety is good IF you stay well within the campus borders. There have been a few muggings and thefts on the outskirts of campus, so be careful when you walk on the outskirts. Bring a friend or two.

    Food and Dining

The food in the cafeteria is abysmal. It is extremely bad, and all freshman are required to buy an expensive, unlimited meal plan (unless you commute). The University Center has some good food, and there are plenty of good restaurants in close proximity to Mercer. There's also a grocery store close by for food.

    Dorm Life

Underclassmen are required to live on campus (unless you commute). There is a rumor that soon, most students will be required to as well even if they are upperclassmen. I'm not certain yet.

    Academic Rigor

The difficulty is pretty closely tied to the course material and your talents/interests. Typically, you'll be more motivated to put lots of time into classes you enjoy, so keep that in mind. If you get a professor that you can't easily understand or connect with, you might have more difficulty than usual. If that happens, go and talk to the teacher as often as possible. I haven't had a professor who wasn't willing to help me as much as they could. Overall, the courses are understandably difficult, but your mileage may vary between departments. Do your research.

    Tips for prospective students

If you want to afford Mercer (without large student loans) you need scholarships. Don't be afraid, you can get them! Make sure to take the SAT and the ACT MULTIPLE TIMES in order to maximize your scholarships from Mercer. Also, fill out the FAFSA. It's a pain, but you can get HOPE and GTEG grants only if you fill it out.

    In three sentences

Mercer is medium sized with a pretty campus. It is small enough to be anywhere on campus within 5 minutes, making it easy to get to class or socialize anywhere. I've really enjoyed the professors in my department and my coursework.

    What to do for fun

Visiting downtown is usually the hot spot with colleges in Macon. Downtown has many clubs and places you can visit and explore. The most popular thing in Macon is the Cherry Blossom Parade which is a fun event to go to if you ever decide to visit Macon. Mercer has a concert every second semester of the school year and you should not miss it! There are many things to do on campus such as fun events clubs or sororities hold. There is always something fun to do around campus or off campus so come out and join the fun!

    Food and Dining

The cafe has a variety of foods that it serves from salads to burgers. There is always something new being served each day. Breakfast is usually highly populated with the student body and I suggest you try to make it to breakfast. There is always the sandwich station which makes the sandwich you want. Itâ??s subway in a school setting. The burgers are delicious and everyone should have at least one even the vegetarian burger is tasty, and this is coming from a meat lover. The food is mouth watering in general so donâ??t be afraid to test your taste buds.

    Dorm Life

The freshman dorms are really small yet you can manage to make it spacious. They are probably the worst dorms in Mercer. Mercer Hall and the Garden Apartments are probably the best housing in Mercer. The lofts are off campus and are a cheap place to live if you want to stay near the school for a good price. The dorms are a perfect spot to make new friends and meet new people so I would suggest everyone to live on campus at least one year. If you want a kitchen, you have a higher change getting a dorm with a kitchen if you are an upper classmen. No matter where you live though you will manage to have a great experience. Mercer always has a community feel to it.

    Academic Rigor

The academic life in Mercer is challenging. The professors drive you to your full potential to prepare you for the real world. Studying and doing your best in class should be your number one priority when entering this school. The class load is maintainable if you manage your time well. The professors are helpful and challenging at the same time. They want you to succeed but will not give you the easy way out. That does not mean you shouldn't ask for help because they will help you if you ask. Mercer is an excellent school overall and if you do choose this school you will not regret it.

    Tips for prospective students

If you an incoming freshman, you will grow to love Mercer just as I did. Mercer is not only a friendly campus but also full of mechanisms that will help you achieve your goals and dreams. As an incoming freshman, the dorms are small yet with just the right equipment, you can make it spacious. The cafe is filled with delicious food, but watch out for the freshman fifteen. Donâ??t forget to get breakfast though since you do have the unlimited meal plan. Mercer is challenging in the academic aspect so donâ??t get too caught up in the college life, yet donâ??t forget to have fun once in a while. There are plenty of things to do around campus. The professors are really helpful so donâ??t be afraid to ask for help that is what they are there for. The campus is safe overall, but you should always either walk back with someone at night or call the Mercer Police to walk you back. Downtown is usually where all the clubs and where other college students in Macon hangout during the weekend. It is a fun place to visit and check out. Overall, Mercer is a great college and you should go out and find out where you fit in the puzzle piece of this wonderful school!

    In three sentences

Mercer has a very diverse and friendly feel to it. It is a college for students who want to achieve greatness and are not afraid to go above and beyond to achieve it. The professors are inspiring and the student body is welcoming.

    Campus Safety

This is one drawback but I have lived here my whole life so I am used to the crime and other things that happen in every other college town so don't be afraid of Macon as Mercer Police are very good at what they do.

    Bang for the buck

It is very expensive but when you tell someone you are going to Mercer their reaction is priceless as it is a very prestigious school.

    What to do for fun

During summer orientation current students told us about all the things to do on and off campus. Most leaned towards it being better to stay on campus.

    Food and Dining

Coming from a public school in Macon anything will be a step up lol

    Dorm Life

I have heard good and bad things. It all depends on where you are placed. The tours show you dorms and things so if you are worried about this take a visit as it will help you make a good choice.

    Academic Rigor

I have heard that it is a very difficult school. I start next week and I am set up for a 14 hr schedule. I am very excited to see what this first semester has in store for me.

    Tips for prospective students

Test scores ( SAT and ACT) matter alot in terms of scholarships and getting into Mercer.

    In three sentences

I have lived in Macon all my life and I always said I would leave for college. Then Mercer University changed all of that. I fell in love with the campus and their willingness to help with all my questions.

    Campus Safety

The campus stays relatively safe on occasion. There are a few times where petty crimes occur between students, but the campus police hand this in a relatively fast fashion. They can be a little ticket happy, but those can be resolved without much trouble.

    Greek Life

The Greek Life on campus keep to themselves for the most part. There are times in the year, during the first semester, when the white fraternities and sororities hold their bid days when new members are brought in. The black fraternities and sororities keep to themselves, but throw some good parties. Also, when they bring in new people to their societies, they hold large events to show who those people to the school.

    What to do for fun

There are several organizations who do things on campus for fun and volunteering-wise. With the introduction of football, and a successful basketball team, game days are always entertaining.

    Food and Dining

The food has it's days. Overall, it is very well done, but there are days where there is not much of a selection. Also, times occur where they stop serving food at times that confound the mind. Plus, the on-campus restaurants do not stay open for times a college student could really deem reasonable.

    Dorm Life

This really depends on where you choose to stay. If you have the right people in the dorm, your freshman year can be really exciting. Also, it doesn't hurt to stay in the other dorms sometimes, as long as you stay out of trouble.

    Academic Rigor

The professors challenge you with their work, but want you to succeed. That said, some do enjoy seeing their students squirm in their seats.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you have bug spray. Also, have your scholarships in line, because the money adds up.

    In three sentences

The university has a very inviting atmosphere. The professors are helpful, sometimes. And the cafeteria has its days of great food, and then some subpar.

Every freshman signs the tower of the administration building, and every freshman goes to Pilgrimage to Penfield to learn about the heritage and history of Mercer. Also, upon graduation, you have to rub Jesse Mercer's (statue) head before the ceremony starts!

    What to do for fun

Clubs downtown, on-campus activities, intramural sports

    Food and Dining

The caf is pretty and diverse, it caters to vegetarians too. There are some food places right outside of campus, as well as restaurants within driving distance

    Dorm Life

They really should knock down all the dorms and rebuild them. The freshman dorms are cramped and old, but the upperclassman apartments are nice.

    Academic Rigor

Difficult! But its so rewarding and you learn so much!

    Tips for prospective students

Make a friend with a car if you plan to go off campus often. The trolley is helpful and goes to the store once a week, and it takes you to Downtown Macon. Never be afraid to ask for help. Go to the academic resource center to get help, form a study group, or set up a meeting with your professor.

    In three sentences

Wonderful, intimate setting. Challenging, but it is easy to receive help in your classes. Always something to do, from sports to clubs to food!

Merpo is always patrolling. You can literally say Merpo and they will be there. In all of Macon I feel safest on campus.

    Greek Life

I personally love Greek Life at Mercer. It is much more laid back than at some bigger state colleges. Friendships among the Greek community are the best.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many activities going on all the time. The only way you could be bored is if you made absolutely no effort to leave your dorm room.

Great for these types of students

Great for students who want independence but do not want to be lost in the crowd.

    Bang for the buck

The tuition is steep but financial aid helps. Plus I would rather pay more to attend Mercer than paying less to be anywhere else.

    What to do for fun

I am a member of the Residence Hall Association, serving as community service chair of my Hall Government. I am also a sister of Alpha Gamma Delta and serve as COR. I am in the Mercer Pre Med Club and also work on Bearforce and Event Staff for the University Center.

    Food and Dining

The caf is all you can eat buffet style and freshmen are required to get unlimited meal plans. The food is sometimes touch and go but you can always rely on salads, cereal, and bagels!

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is THE best paart of college. The dorms may be slightly dated but I love living on campus. The hall governments and RAs are pretty great too.

    Academic Rigor

Being a private school, the academic courses are difficult but the professors really love each student and will help you to get your best grade. All my professors knew me by name and face and would always say hi if we saw each other outside of class.

    Tips for prospective students

Get to know your professors! They are there to help you at Mercer but you have to make the effort.

    In three sentences

Mercer University is my home away from home. When I applied I did not think I would be able to afford it but they were really helpful with financial aid. Attending Mercer is the best decision I have made recently.

    Campus Safety

Campus Safety is a big concern on campus and no one takes their job more seriously than the Mercer Police force, known on campus as MerPo. MerPo has their own police station located on campus, and can be seen patrolling the campus in their cars, bike, cart and on foot. Mercer Police work 24/7 to make sure students and faculty are safe and protected.

    Clubs and Activities

The clubs at Mercer are abound and well worth looking into for any perspective member. Clubs range from liberal arts, religious, sports, and career based. There is just about any club you can possibly have an interest in and if they do not have it, you can make your own.

Great for these types of students

Mercer is a great university for those students looking for a challenging academic work load and small classroom sizes.

    Bang for the buck

It is a little expensive to say the least but there are plenty of things to do at Mercer to make sure you have the best time possible. Not to mention the fact that many graduate schools and professional schools recognize the rigorous course load that Mercer puts on its students. Mercer also offers free admission to all athletic games held on campus as well as an initial scholarship, based on a combination of high school GPA and SAT scores.

    What to do for fun

There are many things to do for fun around campus and the surrounding Macon area. The student led activities committee for Mercer makes sure there is plenty of things to do for Mercer students ranging from time with friends during Midnight Movie, to the rocking good time of Bear Stock. There are also plenty of things to do downtown if that is more of your scene.

    Food and Dining

The one word that will ring true for cafeterias around the college world is, buffet style dining. There are many choices for different people and that can be a good thing when dealing with kids who all they've known all their life is whatever mom cooks, I'll eat. It is also not as good as mom's home cooking but what chef can compete with mom's homemade insert food here.

    Dorm Life

When talking about dorm life there are no better RA's than at Mercer. This being said, the freshmen dorms are not the best thing in the world. Do not fret though because things do get better as you progress in years. It is also mandatory for freshmen-juniors to live on campus, which can be worked around depending on circumstances, but is not such a bad thing considering the amenities on campus.

    Academic Rigor

It is sometimes believed that just because you got good grades in high school that it will automatically translate into good grades for college; but you have to realize that this is not always the case. Pertaining to Mercer, if you do not study hard first then play hard you will find yourself on the wrong side of the 4.0 GPA scale. The good news is that there are plenty of opportunities to get help if you need it and teachers are more than willing to help you understand the material if something is unclear.

    Tips for prospective students

If you want to have the best possible experience at Mercer you can not be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. You will probably here people continuously say that as you progress through your freshmen year and though it may be annoying to at first, the idea will continue to hold true. Also, stay on top of your academics, it can be easy to get rapped up in the fun and freedom of college but remember why you came there in the first place.

    In three sentences

Attending Mercer University is one of the best decisions you can ever make. The environment is nice, friendly and there are many fun things to do around campus. The price is really expensive but it is not unexpected considering it is a private university.

MerPo, or Mercer Police, patrol the parking lots and campus making sure that their students are taken care of and are safe. They will even escort you to your dorm if you had a late night studying session and don't want to walk by yourself to your dorm.

    Greek Life

Sororities and Fraternities do a lot on campus and have a lot of fun doing it.

    Clubs and Activities

We have pretty much every club known to Student-kind.

Great for these types of students

Mercer is for students who are ready and willing to learn.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

One tradition that all Freshmen do is to rub Jesse Mercer's head as they walk to Willingham for Convocation. Four years later, as they are graduating, they will rub his head for the last time as they walk to Penfield to graduate. Another tradition for Freshmen and Seniors is writing their name on the tower. You get to go up the tower of the Administration Building and write your name on it. Another tradition is to go to the original Mercer Campus where you get to see the graves of some of the founders, hear a professor make a speech in the church, eat a wonderful supper, and see a fireworks show.

    Bang for the buck

Mercer is a private college so it automatically costs more than your car. However, it is totally worth it. Mercer is a great place for all students and has the most bang for your buck than any private college.

    What to do for fun

Mercer has a lot of things going on almost all the time. From football to Bearstock, we pretty much have everything. We even like to try to starve out the zombies in a week long, campuswide game of Humans Versus Zombies.

    Food and Dining

The Caf and the University Center are the two places on campus we can use our bear cards. We can use dining dollars at the University Center which has Subway, Chick-Fil-A, and Burger Studio. The Caf has awesome food and their breakfast is my favorite. The food is wonderful and the staff are always nice.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are awesome. The Resident Assistants make it even better. There is always some kind of event going on in the dorms and everyone is so nice and welcoming.

    Academic Rigor

Compared to other colleges I was considering, Mercer definitely rates the highest in this category. Mercer wants to make sure its students are well educated and have some of the best people in their fields as professors.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are considering Mercer, make sure you apply for many scholarships. Also, make sure you have good studying habits and are ready to put in the work it takes to make it at Mercer.

    In three sentences

It is a wonderful college that looks like a big campus but feels like a small campus. Mercer makes it's students feel welcome and comfortable. Mercer is a great place for new students and students that want to excel in their studies.

Their campus is beautiful and provides a great small school atmosphere. The one-on-one experience with the teachers looks amazing. Also, Mercer offers a lot of financial aid if you search for it (I've already won a scholarship), and Mercer also offers a huge number of research opportunities.
