Great for these types of students

It is great for pretty much everyone. The student body is widely diverse and there are plenty of student clubs to explore and meet other students with similar interests. It is great for students who want to learn a lot without paying a lot.

    Tips for prospective students

Just explore the school and what it has to offer.

    Bang for the buck

The classes offered are extremely affordable. I am able to attend college full-time and still cover my expenses.

    Am enjoying being here

I have had a very pleasant college experience so far. Everyone I encounter on campus is extremely friendly and helpful. I always am able to find what I need.

    Am learning a lot

They have helpful teachers and offer a vast assortment of resources to utilize in your studies. Plus, there are two campuses to choose from that each have there own great qualities. I attend both campuses for the best selection of classes and the opportunity to benefit from what both have to offer.

Great for these types of students

I think it's great for every type of student out there. There is something for everyone.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to choose your teacher wisely because like at every institution there are teachers who enjoy teaching and there are teachers who could care less.

    Bang for the buck

MCC is one of the cheaper colleges to attend but I don't think you get what you pay for...I think you get more. The curriculum is a little higher than what you expect going into a community college. The teacher there seem to want to give you their knowledge so you can become as fascinated in the subject as they are.

    Am enjoying being here

MCC has alot of different activities and programs to give a student an enjoyable time there. I do enjoy it there and found myself going earlier and staying later to just bask in the ambiance of the school and all of the people there. The teachers are all so caring and wanting the success of the student that some are willing to go that extra mile for the students. Even without mentioning the free food that is sometimes there, MCC is really enjoyable.

    Am learning a lot

Most of the teachers at MCC are really educated and know what they are teaching. I think that they give the student everything they need to do well in whichever class they are taking and it is up to the student to grasp, memorize, or let it go. I personally have learned a lot and wish that it was a 4 year college because I feel like I would really educate myself there.

Great for these types of students

Anyone who does well in a monotonous, copy and paste sort of environment. If you want to go to school without having to go to school, check out MCC.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are the kind of person who wants to skate by in school just to get a degree, then by all means attend MCC. If you really want to learn something and enjoy college, look somewhere else. Cheap education does not always means it is a good education.

    Bang for the buck

MCC is cheap, let's be real. The classes are really affordable, and with good financial aid, you can easily get all your classes paid for without breaking a sweat. Unfortunately with such cheap classes, I think the education is cheap too. They don't put enough effort into making people want to stay in their school, which is why you can start a class with 100 students, and within 3 weeks, you're down to 30 at the most.

    Am enjoying being here

MCC is not the school for you if you are a creative person. The campus is really bland, the students are uninterested in what they are there for, and I feel it limits my creativity. The art classes are few and far between, and the general feel of the academic classes is monotonous and dull. I truly enjoy learning, and school is a passion of mine, but I count down the minutes until I can leave, which I never did when I was in high school.

    Am learning a lot

I personally think that MCC isn't teaching me a lot because I feel as if it is all about memorization and regurgitation. The classes I have taken are all just focused on memorizing facts to pass a test. I don't think that is true learning. I find myself bored in each one of my classes because the teachers don't engage you in the subject, they just spit facts at you to get you to pass. Learning is so much more than that. Learning requires you to ask questions, and discover answers on your own in an interactive environment.

Great for these types of students

Great for anyone in need of financial aid that can not afford university tuition, people looking for their associates degree, and kids who need an easy transition from high school to a university.

    Tips for prospective students

Community college is definitely a good idea for kids just pursuing their associates degree, but it is also a great idea for kids looking for a BA degree or above. Remember, employers are not looking for where you started out, but where you ended.

    Bang for the buck

MCC is definitely worth every penny. The advisors there are great at helping you find scholarships if you are in need of financial aid.

    Am enjoying being here

Mesa Community College tries to give the students a campus life. There are two coffee shops, stands around campus selling food, as occasional events to make it seem more like a university than a community college.

    Am learning a lot

The professors here are great and because it is a community college, they are more focused on your education than research.

Great for these types of students

If you have no idea what you want to do yet, Mesa Community College is a perfect place to start. When I came here I had no idea what I wanted, but now I have a possible major n psychology because I've had two amazing teachers and next year I'm going to slowly achieve that major.

    Tips for prospective students

You ALWAYS need to do your homework no matter how trivial, insignificant or hard it seems. Those missing assignments add up and at the end of the year you get stressed out and your work becomes trash. Trust me I know.

    Bang for the buck

The tuition is relatively cheap especially if you're strapped for money the school even has it's own scholarship to help you get in.

    Am enjoying being here

I've made so many new friends and even have seen some old ones that I haven't seen since my sophomore year of high school and they always greet me. Thee school has so many different clubs to keep you engaged and a variety of classes you can chose from.

    Am learning a lot

There are the teachers that you don't like and can't really learn well with, but there will always be those types. There's free math and psychology tutoring if a student needs. The teachers are always willing to help when they can because they genuinely enjoy the job.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for anyone!

    Tips for prospective students

MCC is a great way to help transition to the universities. It's cheaper, so you can receive your pre-recs at more than half the cost.

    Bang for the buck

I have had many classmates say it's down right dirt cheap to apply and it is super easy to receive grants. MCC is definitely more bang for your buck!

    Am enjoying being here

The teachers here are great role models! Most of the professors I've had here have had wonderful personalities and are very personable (and also very humorous). The campuses have something for everyone. If you like the university setting, apply at the main MCC campus. If you like a smaller campus, apply at the Red Mountain Campus.

    Am learning a lot

Throughout my college years, I began to take school more serious. The teachers want more out of you than you realise. As a person, you will grow. Because the class sizes are smaller, you won't miss a lot of information on what you're learning.

    Campus Safety

MCC is well known for their safety and security. Anytime that someone is in a bind, MCC security rushes to their every needs. Especially in the Arizona heat when cars break down, the safety group helps any student in need.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for transfer students and students who want to enjoy a relaxed environment while attending college. Definitely not a party school. It is better because it focuses on only education and helping a student's future.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There are many spots in the middle of the school where people go to sit under a tree where shade is a friend to our Arizona skin.

    Bang for the buck

MCC has an ongoing process of welcoming from all students and is the place to be. I experience new greetings from new people everyday and am always entertained when walking through the halls.

    What to do for fun

There are numerous computer labs to browse your favorite websites during breaks from classes. There is a giant cafe with all your tasty treats that one would ever need. The library is super close to any class and sits in the middle of the school when you need a daily reading break.

    Food and Dining

The Cafeteria contains almost any food that is on your starving college mind. It is the perfect place to sit and relax with friends and new college buddies.

    Dorm Life

This college does not contain any dorm or housing plans.

    Academic Rigor

MCC has a very unbiased sense of education. MCC welcomes and educates anyone who trying to achieve greatness and puts academics first. Definitely the school where students learn to gain an unbiased opinion on life.

    Tips for prospective students

New students should know that there is no pressure at this school when applying for colleges. MCC welcomes all students who plan to achieve success in the future. With it's small classes, professors focus more on an individual rather than leaving you with questions.

    In three sentences

Mesa Community College is a number one destination when applying to a new school. MCC contains one of the most relaxed, entertaining environments while attending a college. With it's highly intriguing education, MCC is a school of dreams.

    Campus Safety

I've been here for three years and not once has any safety concern occurred. There are plenty of guards biking around and they tend to let the student body be for the most part without the typical harassment that you hear from some universities, like ASU.

    Bang for the buck

I must say, one of the reasons why I attended MCC was due to the tuition. The tuition is very reasonable, but at the same time I personally didn't feel like my education grew any. I felt in artist sense that I wasn't challenged. Not saying that I'm amazing, but many of the art professors would give you a pat on the back and your A for turning in their assignments. Their critique was very little, which doesn't help you grow much. If you're an artist, I would be concerned with this. If not, definitely attend MCC, at least for your basics.

    Food and Dining

Over the past year, MCC has been expanding it's food and dining experience. Back in 2011, the lunch room was very modest, and pretty dull to be honest. The new updated 2012 room is more of a lounge or really large cafe. The food selection has grown, there are many tables, couches and chairs to lounge around on, plenty of vending machines, and an overall more relaxed environment, though it may become a bit loud a times. The food pricing is typical for any college; overpriced. In the end, I must applaud MCC for stepping their game up on this aspect.

    Dorm Life

There are no dorms currently offered.

    Academic Rigor

I'm your average Joe when it comes to education and this school didn't really push the boundaries and challenge you, nor cut you a lot of slack and let you slip by.

    Tips for prospective students

If you're an artist, you may want to take a look at Scottsdale Community College because while MCC's art selection is diverse, it's not that deep (excluding photographers, drawers and painters). There's an especially poor selection for film and graphic art students.

    In three sentences

Mesa Community College is a great and well-rounded school for those looking to advance their education. The overall student body is very diverse with different interests and extra curricular activities to attend. The tuition is fair and class flexibility is great.

I agree that the classes are really cheap, but like in the real world you buy cheap you get cheap. I don't want that to apply to my education!!

    Am enjoying being here

I am not enjoying my time here at all, each day I wake up its like a blah feeling to get ready and go to class. The only good thing was that I got to see my one friend those days. Spring is about to start and I'm just ready for it to end. I am going up north with my boyfriend and start college up there.

Great for these types of students

All types! Athletes, musicians, dancers, science lovers, artistic people, readers, researchers, everyone! The school is huge, and the class selection is unbelievable. There's also a club for everyone.

    Tips for prospective students

I guess my biggest tip for prospective students would be--don't make the mistake of not using campus resources. I email, visit, and check almost everything on campus. The offices clearly enjoy helping students. If you don't know anyone, join a club! The clubs on campus are very fun. I'm a member of Math Club, Quidditch Club (yes, quidditch as in the Harry Potter sport), and Art Club. My first semester here was shaky because I only came to class and left afterwards, but the more I explored, the more I loved Mesa Community College!

    Bang for the buck

Mesa CC is one of highest ranking community colleges in the U.S. The tuition is low, and I get a HUGE amount of resources. Since I am a literature student, the biggest resource I enjoy is the library. The library subscribes to over 50 online and in print research journals of every subject imaginable. The librarians are also super helpful. The buildings are nice, and technology is very up to date. (Even the gym is nice!)

    Am enjoying being here

I used to attend NAU, but everyone there was too busy to sit down and spend time assisting me. Here at Mesa CC, everyone has time or makes time for me. I absolutely enjoy my time at the Math Club (even though I not great at the subject) and with the other Honors students.

    Am learning a lot

I originally started out with a general major, but I quickly found my niche. I'm now an English Lit major, enrolled in MAPP. My teachers love their subjects, so it's easy to enjoy the classes. Some are definitely difficult, but the campus has a ton of tutors! The Writing Center in the library is especially useful. Even the offices, like Admissions and the Honors Office, teach me a lot. They direct me to the classes I need to take, why I need to take them, and how to earn scholarships through the school.

    Greek Life

a few greek-named clubs, including the honor society, phi theta kappa and the psychology club, psi beta.

    Clubs and Activities

there is so much opportunity for new clubs and getting involved at other current clubs. there is an entire student government as well as the honor society. i really hope that future students will consistently make the clubs into something more.

Great for these types of students

    everyone.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

there are live action role players (larpers) that regularly participate in their favorite activities in the green field at the center of campus. it gives me hope to see people expressing themselves in their own way, regardless of what others may think.

    Bang for the buck

like i said, it is what you make of it. if you just want to get a few classes done, you can do it. if you want to go all out, you can most certainly do it. therefore the bang for the buck ratio can be astronomical.

    What to do for fun

get involved in clubs. i have been involved in the honor society as well as a few clubs and it has made the community college experience that much richer. not only that, but it creates a great chance to add something to your resumé and make a name for yourself while you're at it. mesa community college is a chance to excel. make the best of it.

    Food and Dining

there are a few coffee shops on location as well as a nice cafe. right outside the campus there are multiple stores that all offer food at good prices. prices on campus for food a bit high, so i make it a point to get food elsewhere.

    Dorm Life

this is a community college. i will rate a five because there are no dorms; housing is up to the student, so therefore dorm life was whatever i wanted it to be. 5/5.

    Academic Rigor

even in the highest level math/science courses (which are arguably the most difficult classes of any subject), the teachers are still of sufficient quality to provide a pleasant experience that allows for any student to relax when needed.

    Tips for prospective students

take placement tests, become a member of phi theta kappa (the honor society), graduate from the honors program. set the standards high for yourself and you will see that there is much opportunity to go far at this school.

    In three sentences

mesa community college is one of the largest community colleges in the nation and it is located in a busy area. but it still manages to have classes that are small enough that they can deliver a personal, meaningful student-teacher experience. on top of that, the courses that they offer are numerous, flexible, and completely reasonable.

tons of clubs and it's really easy to start a new one if you don't find one that fits your interest as long as you find a faculty member to sponsor it.

Great for these types of students

great for all types of students

    Bang for the buck

i think mcc is a great place to get a lot, if not all of your generals done. the tuition is very inexpensive and you get a quality education.

    Campus Safety

The safety department keeps a close eye on what happens on campus and, at night, the campus is very lit up. Even after the campus closes, the parking lots are fully lit to ensure safety.

    Greek Life

I don't know of any Greek life.

    Clubs and Activities

MCC has a lot of different clubs. There are clubs that coincide with your major, such as Psi Beta, the psychology honor society, Sigma Chi Eta, the communication honor society, future educator's club, or geology club. There is also an outdoor club, a ballroom dance club, a chess club, and a social justice club.

Great for these types of students

Those who work full time or who want to save some money and don't need all those extra things that the university offers.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

One of my favorite places on campus is the Grounds For Thought coffee shop. It is near the library. This place has a great wi-fi internet connection compared to many other spots on campus. The coffee is really good and the couches are comfy.

    Bang for the buck

Although you don't get all the events and amenities that a university has, you get a good education, which is really what you are in college for, right?

    What to do for fun

You can go bowling at the bowling alley across the street or shop at the Fiesta Mall, which is about a mile away from campus.

    Food and Dining

Before I came to MCC there was no place to really dine, except for a hot dog stand, a grill, and two coffee shops. I heard that they had just put the restaurant in. There is only one restaurant and the food is expensive and mediocre. There is also a hot dog stand and that is alright but still somewhat expensive. The coffee shops are great! It's some of the best coffee I have had.

    Dorm Life

MCC doesn't have a lot of dorms, although I have heard of apartments, they are not on campus and they are expensive.

    Academic Rigor

I believe it is as difficult or more difficult than the state universities. The math department is especially rigorous.

    Tips for prospective students

Because there is so much diversity, most of the students here are going to be accepting so don't worry about not fitting in. Learn how to use WebCT on the evening of your first day of school. Most of the information about the class and many of the handouts and assignments will be posted on this website. Ask your professors if you need help. They are more than willing to help you. If you need math tutoring, don't rely on the math tutoring center, it's too risky and hit and miss. Instead, try forming a study group with classmates. Make sure at least one person in the group is doing well in the class. If you are not able to gather a study group, just ask people around you if you can have their phone numbers so you can contact them with questions. Ask your math instructor questions as well.

    In three sentences

There is a lot of diversity. There are not too many students. The teachers really care about their students.

Great for these types of students

Great for students who can't afford ASU or any other in-state or out-of-state tuition/room & board, students who didn't take SAT's or ACT's, students who didn't apply or qualify for scholarships or financial aid.

    What to do for fun

There are tons of clubs to get involved in on campus for whatever one can fathom, and you can take leisure classes like tai-chi, yoga, a botany class to teach you how to start your own gardens, and so on. There are also alot of activities that go on during the Clubs Carnivals, that happen every few months or so.

    Food and Dining

The Thunderbird Cafe is good, but not great. The pricing is especially outrageous especially in this economy, for ok-tasting food.

    Dorm Life

    MCC has no housing.

    Academic Rigor

The courses can range from easy to fairly diffiult, depending on your major, level of prior knowledge, and work ethic.

    Tips for prospective students

Some words of advice for potential students - don't be afraid if you have no idea what you want to major in, because chances are you'll probably change your mind a few times - just relax. Get all of your general studies out of the way, and decide early if you want to be a transfer student and move on to a university, or if you want to stay at MCC and get your associate's degree in a shorter amount of time (everyone's careers and lives are different). Work hard, come with an adult mindset because you'll need it directly out of high school, and don't underestimate the work and the lifestyle of college because it's not all fun and games and you'll need to adopt (if you haven't already) an independent attitude and try to change your habits.

    In three sentences

MCC is a college full of diverse students from all sorts of backgrounds and cultures. The courses are taught in smaller classrooms, which is good if you do not perform well in larger classes. Most importantly, the cost for tuition and books is considerably less than at a university.

The best part of Mesa Community College is the price. It's maybe a quarter of what you'll pay at the university, but you're still getting the same credits. You may even get a better education due to the small classes allowing for more one on one interaction with the teachers.

    What to do for fun

Because it is a community college, there are not as many activities or clubs around campus as a university like ASU. But every once in a while, there is free food if you look around. You can also attend the concerts and plays.

    Food and Dining

Everybody who attends MCC at the main Southern and Dobson campus loves the Pita Jungle across the street. It is a laid-back, student dominated joint where vegans and jocks can live and eat as one.

    Bang for the buck

You will not find a better education for a better price than at MCC. While there are many reminders of the fact that MCC is a community college and not a university, those reminders only go to enhance the uniqueness of the world-class education that you will receive at MCC.

    What to do for fun

MCC's students populate every demographic and hobby that could be imagined. Yes, there are the typical college parties, which are never a bad time. But also, students can be found riding dirt bikes, attending concerts, traveling around the state and myriad other occupations on the weekends.

    Food and Dining

Not really anything special. Vending machines in the hallways, breakfast burritos at the cafe in the morning, and cold sandwiches at lunch. Small cafe atmosphere, but incomparable service.

    Dorm Life

MCC has two central campuses with living nearby, but does not have any on-campus dorms.

    Academic Rigor

There is a lot to be said for the fact that MCC's instructors will always keep you on your toes. There is such a colorful array of personalities and amount of diversity at MCC there is always something to new to learn from everyone you are surrounded with.

    Tips for prospective students

The most important tips that I can offer new students are to register early, and don't buy books until after the first day of class. There are tons of people always trying to register last minute, and the registration process becomes a madhouse. In addition, you will find that %50 of your instructors do not require the reading material. Don't lose money on books you can't return!

    In three sentences

Mesa Community College has earned it's title as the largest community college not only the country, but in the world. While this title does allow MCC to offer an incredibly wide array of programs and degrees for every interest and major, the quality of some instructors is lacking. Also I barely see security around especially in the parking lot.

The central clock tower is the best landmark on campus, everyone knows where it is, and its a good way to meet up with friends, or people you know. The MU43 building constantly has talented musicians waiting and playing outside, it feels like your own theme song as you walk by.

    Bang for the buck

The dollar to education ratio is phenomenal. The classes are very professional and challenging, you can be placed based off of your entrance exams, or choose the classes you'd like, if there are no prerequisites of course.

    What to do for fun

There is a plethora of clubs available at MCC for that extracurricular fun; however, based on the students reactions it seems that the classes themselves are entertaining enough to be classified as fun.

    Food and Dining

The student cafe/coffee shop is delightful, everything is prepared fairly quickly and is available during those early morning classes.

    Dorm Life

There are no dorms on or off campus, however, the surrounding area is being rejuvenated, so it's quite decent.

    Academic Rigor

The academics vary, depending on which class. The instructors open their offices and provide reliable sources of contact information to answer any questions you have outside the classroom.

    Tips for prospective students

As a new student, step out of your shell, meet your instructors, meet new people, and stay on top of everything, especially homework and your due payments.

    In three sentences

MCC is staffed wonderfully, the instructors are great, inspirational, and want to teach their students. The appearance of the campus is lax, but very professional, it's a melting pot of a school and is a joy to be at. Lastly, the fellow students, regardless of age, are very professional, and are there because they wish to learn, not because they have to be.

You will need those classes with any major so its a good idea to get those out of the way at a cheaper college. Also take different classes that you might not even be interested in at first. You never know what you might like until you try it.

    Campus Safety

The Red Mountain College is pretty safe, the main campus surrounding areas are a little sketchy at night but I haven't had any issues.

Great for these types of students

Ones that are working and going to school.

    Bang for the buck

Its pretty affordable, considering most of these classes are thousands at a four year university.

    What to do for fun

Theres always something going on, seminars, workshops, even job fairs, and the main campus is close to a mall or a short drive to almost anything.

    Food and Dining

They have a starbucks on the Red Mountain campus and a Wendys is within walking distance. The main campus has a lot more around it, and if you want to stay on campus there is a dining hall.

    Dorm Life

There really aren't any dorms, living is all off campus.

    Academic Rigor

They have gotten stricter on late papers and attendance, which is good if you really want a quality education.

    Tips for prospective students

Take all the core classes first (english, math, sciences) and figure out your major sooner so you spend less money changing majors.

    In three sentences

Quality, low cost education with campuses that are located in convienient places. Easy to sign up, and if you live in pinal county, no worries, you can still enroll and pay the same as a maricopa student.

    What to do for fun

There are always sporting events to attend at the Dobson campus. Both campuses have free events that allow students to make relationships and receive information about their futures at Mesa Community College. The Red Mountain campus, which is close to the Superstition Mountains, has a trail that allows students to see the wildlife of the desert.

    Food and Dining

There are cafes at both the Red Mountain campus and Dobson campus. When students complained about the food at the Dobson campus, the cafe was redesigned and is better than ever. They provide healthy options for students as well.

    Dorm Life

There are no dorms available for Mesa Community College that I am aware of. Opportunities to learn about local housing is available. There are many apartment complexes that are income-based.

    Academic Rigor

Academically, Mesa Community College is a superior college. The professors are both flexible and dedicated to their students' success. However, the classes are challenging and thought-provoking.

    Tips for prospective students

Prospective students should make every effort to actively search for scholarships, participate in service-learning, and learn about how to be involved in on-campus activities. Students should also take the time to receive information from all available offices in order to become more involved and have more resources. Doing homework and studying on-campus will help with students feel more like Mesa Thunderbirds!

    In three sentences

Mesa Community College has some of the most dedicated professors that I have ever come across. The campuses are well secured and clean. Although there are thousands of students, I have never spent more than ten minutes searching for a parking spot on either the Dobson campus or the Red Mountain campus.

The classes are smaller scaled and the teachers have a much more one on one communication with the students. The teachers are very flexible with outside of class help and tutoring and have great office hours for questions or deeper insight into the material from class.

    Bang for the buck

The bookstore offers supplies for any situation you may need. College wear, school supplies, books, computer accessories, etc. Everything is extremely affordable and they offer a great buy back at the end of the semester or whenever you feel like getting books off your hands!

    What to do for fun

The campus is located in a great area with easy access to everything around you. Public transportation is located near campus and many freeways connecting near campus as well. Many restaurants ranging from all different price ranges surround the campus. With the mall located across the street and different varieties of food and also a hospital located directly across campus, there is anything you may need within a five mile radius of campus. It makes eating and shopping very easy if you have a break between classes.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria was recently remodeled. There are two coffee shops located on campus, one in the library and one in the cafeteria. The cafeteria offers Papa Johns, chicken strips, energy drinks, nutrition bars, and many many more quick and easy snacks. There are several easily accessible vending machines on campus and also a very traditional and affordable hot dog stand from New York.

    Dorm Life

    Academic Rigor

Mesa Community College offers tutor/learning centers outside of class with tutors available to help with any question and are extremely helpful. The center helped me understand difficult material much more than the class time allowed.

    Tips for prospective students

Arrive to every class a little bit earlier than the scheduled time and bring snacks in between classes as some vending machines do not work or low on quantity of material. Bathrooms are few, far and in between as well. Buy your textbooks the week classes begin as to some teachers inform you that the books are not needed and a waste of money. Parking is tight in the morning so arrive early to class to find a parking spot.

    In three sentences

The campus is very easy to navigate around and extremely clean and a friendly environment. I have met many people who reach out to inspire other students to achieve the same goal of graduating. There are numerous clubs that you can get yourself into. I personally am not apart of the club, but I find plenty of things to do for fun-- like fool around on the pianos in the practice rooms and talk to friends, which is pretty much all I need.

    Food and Dining

There is no reason why you should need a meal plan, but the food is pretty average if you wanted to go buy something. If you don't feel like anything on the campus, then there are plenty of fast food restaurants near the campus that are within walking distance.

    Dorm Life

I do not believe that MCC has dorms. Then again, I live here and live with my parents, so I could always be wrong.

    Tips for prospective students

    Campus Safety

You will experience a relatively safe campus. There is not a lot of crime around the campuses either. However, tending to be jocks that hit on girls, the security guards at MCC are a joke.

    Food and Dining

Both campuses have some sort of diner located on the premises. This diner sells normal diner food, such as chicken strips ect and has also sells starbucks products.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is non existent on both Dobson and Red Mountain Campuses. On the dobson campus their seems to be quite a lot of apartments for rent however; therefore not associated with the school.

    Academic Rigor

Seems like an extension of High School. I say that because teachers tend to usually grade on a curve, let you use cheat sheets, and take home tests. This isn't your academically rigorous college, this is your laid back, get you through type of college. Do your work, show up on time, and be attentive and you'll do just find at Mesa Community College.

    Tips for prospective students

Pick classes that fit your work schedule, allowing time for home work and studying. Also, arrive early for classes as the parking lots may be cramped. Before you start at MCC, be sure to take the orientation as the campus is stretched out throughout Mesa and can take some getting used too.

    In three sentences

Mesa Community College is a good school to attend if you are just starting College. It seems to be an extension of high-school and is easy to adjust to if you are worried about college, or joining after many years. With excellent teachers, and a easy curriculum you would enjoy coming here.

Mesa Community College is a great choice for students who aren't ready for a University. If you need a transition from high school to college, this is the way to go. Clubs and Activities

There are many clubs and activities that students can get involved with. And, all of those clubs are very active in the school and the surrounding community!

Great for these types of students

MCC is a great college for those students with a vehicle, and an appreciation for small campuses.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

I would guess that unusual locations on campus are the hiking trails. Some traditions that other colleges don't do that MCC does, however, are a week before finals, they give out free foods for students.

    Bang for the buck

They have many classes that one can take, and, since it's a community college, the classes are fairly priced.

    What to do for fun

There are many computers to use for fun online. Then, there is the Student Life Lounge with video games, board and card games, and movies with a large TV for students to entertain themselves with. There are hiking trails around the Red Mountain campus if you'd like to exercise for fun in the Sonora desert.

    Food and Dining

The cafe has some nice food. Though, they seem overpriced and its room is fairly small. Near the Dobson campus, there are many other locations off campus for food choices.

    Dorm Life

There isn't really any dorm life to MCC.

    Academic Rigor

The classes are pretty easy, and the teachers are nice enough to give the students some slack.

    Tips for prospective students

My tips for prospective students are to have much money for gas or choose only one of the MCC locations for your class, and be open to the many opportunities that the school offers, such as the databases and tutoring. Also, make sure to go to the advisers to check up on the progress of your degree - they're great help!

    In three sentences

MCC is a community college set in Mesa, Arizona. They have two campuses: Red Mountain, and Dobson, which have a fair amount of distance between them. It also has a large diversity in age and race, but it's a fairly small school.

    Campus Safety

There has never been any serious incidents on campus and there are always two patrol cars on duty. The campus security rides around on their bicycles all day until the late hours of the night.

    Clubs and Activities

If you're looking for a club, MCC has it. I have never seen such diversity in club options at any other school. At MCC, there is a place for everyone to feel at home.

Great for these types of students

MCC is not a very athletic school in my opinion. Our football team never wins a game! However, the academic side of the college (which is the important part) will never let you down. If you are a serious student wanting to gain knowledge in your field of interest, this is the college for you.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

I am unaware of any unusual traditions...but there are events such as Dr. Suess day where elementary school students come to campus and MCC students dress up like Dr. Suess characters as they read them stories, show them through the campus, and involve them in Science Days. Science Days are when the life science department organizes a whole day of science adventure for the kids! I have participated in all of them since I enrolled and I absolutely loved teaching the little ones about rattlesnakes, gila monsters, birds, cacti, etc!

    Bang for the buck

You couldn't find a better education for the price being offered at MCC. I work part-time and I still can afford it; although rigorous, it is possible.

    What to do for fun

It seems as if the MCC itinerary has things planned usually on Wednesdays and Fridays. There are plenty of times when there are student organizations giving away free prizes for games, blow up slides, water fun, and much more. If you get involved with a group, the fun only increases from there! Some groups go on camping trips, do research, volunteer for better causes, and much more.

    Food and Dining

The Kirk Center offers great breakfast meals when the mornings just catch up to you too fast. The student groups also offer many free luncheons and end of the year dinners all over campus.

    Academic Rigor

As previously stated, MCC's instructors are tough. They expect a lot out of you. I have learned much more from the classes that I have taken in comparison to people I know taking the same classes at a University. When discussing newly learned topics and concepts, I have run circles around the University students with the knowledge I have acquired at MCC. Work hard, learn much, and succeed!

    Tips for prospective students

As in all areas of life from now until the end of time, work hard now, and play later. Keep in mind that the instructors are not monsters, but they are also not your mommy. They expect a lot out of you and as long as you are trying, they will help you through any issue you stumble upon. Once you get to know them, they are actually VERY fun to talk to, and I will miss most of them very much when I move on to a University.

    In three sentences

Mesa Community College is a very welcoming atmosphere that offers structure and guidance for any and all students in all walks of life. It is a college where every student feels involved, appreciated, and heard. MCC is by far the best community college I know of, and I wish I could attain my Bachelor's from them!

Join clubs! Mesa Community has a lot of opportunities when it comes to clubs and it is never a bad thing to get involved.

    Food and Dining

MCC does not have many food and dining options due to it being a community college.

    Dorm Life

Mesa Community College does not have dorms.

    Academic Rigor

Community college classes will always be less competitive and easier than university. If you want something hard, attend a university.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are just coming out of high school, for any college you need to know to not schedule your classes five to ten minutes apart, really look at your campus maps and if you're visiting, walk it. A lot f times, professors will hold you about five minutes late. At MCC this is due to the common fifty five minute classes, most professors are used to an hour or an hour and five. Join a club or two. It is great to get involved and MCC has GREAT clubs.

    In three sentences

MCC is great schooling for very cheap, I highly recommend it if you're just getting credits out of the way. The school is very involved in their students and the environment. It contains a lot of options for each student and has great activities and clubs that can interest everyone in every major.

    Bang for the buck

For a tenth of the price of a four year institution, you get superior instruction and an Associates degree to tack on to your resume while you work towards your bachelors. The support staff are amazing and the advisors know exactly how the four years run their business. I can't recommend this enough.

    Food and Dining

Food on campus is acceptable, but there are also plenty of restaurants outside of campus well within walking distance.

    Dorm Life

There is no dorm life here; it's a community college.

    Academic Rigor

Nothing here is unfair; you will get the grade you deserve. Even the hardest instructor I had who very likely hated me, gave me a B which was entirely appropriate.

    Tips for prospective students

Understand that your teachers aren't teaching for money; all of my instructors did it because they loved it. If you keep that in mind, you can utilize your instructors for the amazing resources that they always are in their fields.

    In three sentences

Mesa Community College has instructors who are passionate about what they teach. More to the point, their advisors prepare you for a four year school like Arizona State University by telling you exactly what that school is going to expect from you. In short, Mesa Community College is a fantastic place and I'm proud to have been here.

    Clubs and Activities

There are a lot of clubs that you can join to get involved on campus. I haven't personally joined a club because my work load and school schedule is crazy but I would have joined the Inter-tribal Student Organization in a heartbeat. They are the club for Native American students and if you're from the reservations and feel far away from home, this club will make you feel like you're part of the family.

    Bang for the buck

You'll definitely get your money's worth here as long as you attend classes and work hard. I mean, it's college! Campus Safety

There is never a time when I feel my safety is threatened at Mesa Community College. Security is constantly monitoring the campus to make sure everything is in order. At the Red Mountain Campus there is an entire building devoted to public safety because we value a safe learning environment.

    Clubs and Activities

Psi Beta is a club on campus that is perfect for psychology majors. This club meets once a week to discuss several topics regarding the world of Psychology. They are known to throw fun events to provide entertainment and to promote themselves on campus. Psi Beta is recognized nationally and is great club to be involved in. A non-traditional club at Mesa Community College that is for sure to raise an eyebrow is the Zombie Response Club. Yes, you read that right. This club on campus is devoted to preparing members for the looming threat of zombies taking over the world. Esteemed alumni of this club include Rick Grimes.

Great for these types of students

Mesa Community College is perfect for students who wish to keep in close proximity of home, usually newly high school graduates, or those who wish to have a more intimate learning environment in their classes. Class sizes are generally small typically no more than thirty students per class. Students develop a personal relationship with their professors. As compared to universities when you are merely a face in a sea of students. This college is great for students who wish to have a more personalized education! Also, if your major is the popular major undecided Mesa Community College is the a great option for you. Being a student here you do not feel pressured to select your major right away. You have the chance to explore the fields you wish to learn more about before you fully commit to them.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The campus of Red Mountain at Mesa Community College is composed of some pretty impressive architecture. Don't let the occasional bob cat or rattle snake on campus scare you off. After all, this campus was constructed right in the heart of the Sonoran Desert making it unique from any other campus. The campus itself is circuled around a patch of beautifully landscaped desert. The hall ways and buildings are situated around this circled piece of desert. I always say that one of the best things about my campus IS the campus.

    Bang for the buck

As compared to the cost of tuition at a university Mesa Community College is a steal. The institution has a productive financial aid department as well as many scholarships available for the taking. To get the biggest bang for your college buck strive to earn the Presidential Scholarship. This is the college's hidden jem. With this scholarship your tuition is paid in complete each semester. Can't beat FREE!

    What to do for fun

Ask any college student what do you do for fun and most likely their answer will be somewhere along the lines of sleep. Not the case here! There are too many fun things to do at Mesa Community College that you might even lose sleep. Events are always going on. Free food is always being given out like snow cones, popcorn, ice-cream, pizza, and even nachos. Lets just say you will never be hunger at this campus. Around the holidays like Halloween there is always something special. Each year the campus of Red Mountain opens its doors to the community so that members can go trick-or-treating. (No, even though you're a college student that doesn't mean you're too old to go). The choirs at the college always put on a festive, Christmas show every year for students and the community to get in the spirit. Students are also allowed to attend presentations over not-so-everyday-life situations. For example, this past year their was a presentation over the Zombie Apocalypse presented by the Zombie Response Club on campus! Whatever your style, whatever your interest, there is always something fun at Mesa Community College.

    Food and Dining

Mesa Community college offers a variety of food and dining choices on campus. There is a Cafe serves serves a variety of snacks for students to munch on before class. And of course, what would a college student be without coffee? The Red Mountain Campus proudly brews Starbucks coffee, lattes, cappuccinos, fappuchinos, macchiatos, ....you get the point. Nevertheless it is a college student's dream come true in a cup.

    Dorm Life

Dorms are obviously non-existent at a community college. Then again, I guess you always pretend your bedroom at your parents house is a dorm.

    Academic Rigor

They don't call it community COLLEGE for just any reason. College can be tough but with the right attitude and effort it can be easy as A B C. Students need to be diligent with their academics. Some classes are more difficult than others. It is up to the student to decide how much they wish to challenge them. Just remember, the long, endless hours of studying WILL pay off with an associates degree from Mesa Community College. If you find yourself sinking instead of swimming in your classes the college offers free tutoring on campus to help you get back on your feet! The college wants to see you succeed.

    Tips for prospective students

Congratulations! You have made the decision to pursue a degree of higher education at Mesa Community College and what a great choice you have made. If your application is accepted, are enrolled in an honors course, and are a full-time student your tuition is completely on the house! Yep! You heard me. FREE SCHOOL. What could be better? 2) 15, the Golden Number: When deciding how many credits you wish to take per semester choose to take 15 credit hours. This amount of classes is not overwhelming but is very productive at the same time. If you take 15 credits per semester you will be on track to graduate within two years as community college advertises. 3) Find Yourself: Take a variety of courses of different types of classes. Take a public speaking class and a computers class. Take a foreign language or Psychology 101 class. Take a dance class and a theater class. FIND OUT WHAT FITS YOU. Community college is the opportunity to explore what you want to be when you grow up. Most importantly, have fun in your community college experience.

College students who haven't quite settled on what degree they want yet; Don't waste your money at a big university - figure it out here where you can literally try out anything you want and find your niche.

    Bang for the buck

As with all the maricopa colleges, MCC has their own press so they help the student wallet a TON when it comes to books. You're getting the same, if not more one-on-one education time as you would with a big university, but paying WAY less! I love it here!

    Academic Rigor

Academics are excellent with professors who know how to challenge their students to ensure they're getting the most out of their education.

    Tips for prospective students

    In three sentences

Mesa Community College puts you in charge of your education; you want it, you go for it. You definitely get out what you put it here; If you put in the effort, your professors will bend over backwards to help you, but vice versa if you aren't willing to put in the effort, your instructors will have little to work with and can't help you. Mesa CC is also incredibly diverse in the degrees they offer with literally something for everyone and ways of discovering what degree really is the best one for you.
