Categories Comments Great for these types of students If you like the city, but don't wanna live in a big city, this is perfect for you. It is a place that is close enough to a big city, but is located in a more suburban area. If you want to go out on the weekends, Nashville is just a short drive away.
Tips for prospective students Get involved! Being connected makes college so much more fun!
Bang for the buck Tuiton for MTSU is affordable for what you get. Along with the classes, tuition allows you to have a membership to the recreation center, access to the KUC's movie theater, and so much more!
Am enjoying being here I love being here. The atmosphere is appealing and the people are friendly:)
Am learning a lot The college courses that I am currently enrolled in make me try my best and learn all I can in them. The professors try to actually make the classes interesting so students will want to return.

Tips for prospective students MTSU should not be overlooked. Also, even though Murfreesboro seems like a small town, MTSU is huge - with over 25,000 students! One you here, you HAVE to get involved. Find something you enjoy and meet others with the same interests. Also, MTSU is not car-friendly. Parking is never fun, so living in a dorm will be very easy to navigate the campus.
Bang for the buck It's a very cheap school compared to a whole lot of other universities and MTSU is just as good. Most professors really care about your time here as well as all of the student services. You do pay a couple thousand dollars.. but you truly get a lot out of it!
Am enjoying being here I love MTSU! It truly has so much to offer, but you'll miss it if you don't utilize all the different services! From cheap outdoor trips to offices devoted to helping you write papers to language labs - MTSU has it all. It's a great music-oriented school with a great Recording Industry program, as well as Aerospace. I've made tons of friends through a dance company on campus and numerous intramurals!
Am learning a lot I feel that the General Education Curriculum has much variety of necessary and interesting course material. My professors in the first semester all did a wonderful job of conveying their subject and I really did learn alot about speeches, theatre and psychology - all things I have not experienced before!

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Anybody planning on taking a career in -Music industry -Athletic training/exercise science -Concrete management -Fashion
Tips for prospective students Try not to walk in the middle of the street or parking lot. Stick to the sidewalks, edges, whatever. Unless you want to get hit by a bike. Also, get to know the professors, especially the ones that teach things related to your career goal. They'll be your connections for life.
Bang for the buck Definitely. Well-equipped labs, a clean campus, a huge library, a huge rec center, world-recognized teachers and a quality education don't run cheap, but MTSU charges one of the lowest tuitions in the state.
Am enjoying being here Lots of things to do on campus (not so much in Murfreesboro in general). You could spend a whole day at the rec center and not finish the activities they have to offer. There are plenty of intramural and club sports like rugby, soccer, and ultimate frisbee. If you're not into sports, there are dance clubs, art clubs, environmental clubs and student government clubs. Also, there's a sporting event at least once every week to attend (free for students).
Am learning a lot The professors make an effort to teach you things you don't already know from high school. The classes provide you with outside resources, like websites, where you can pick up more information about a certain field

Categories Comments Great for these types of students MTSU is great for all types of students. We're a pretty diverse school with different ages, races, religions, and fields of study. All types of people attend MTSU, and it's my opinion that all types fit in. There is a place on campus for everyone.
Tips for prospective students Live on campus your first year! It is absolutely a great way to meet people, and MTSU has several great housing locations. You'll feel like you are really a part of campus, and you have a greater chance of getting involved in things. Also, don't be afraid to ask your professors questions. Most of the professors at MTSU are really nice and will be beyond willing to help you. Lastly, get involved! MTSU has tons of organizations you can get involved in. No matter what you're into - MTSU has an organization for you!
Bang for the buck MTSU has a pretty low in-state tuition, but it's a pretty top-notch education. I think I'm learning just as much as I would if I attended one of the more known state schools, like UTK, which cost a lot more. MTSU has tons of great professors and facilities, and you really get your money's worth when it comes to education and other things that are offered to you. (The rec center and parking are included in tuition prices!) Our out-of-state rates aren't outrageous either.
Am enjoying being here I love going to MTSU. Most of the people are really nice, and the campus is really diverse. The campus is absolutely beautiful, and Murfreesboro is a pretty great town to live in. There are a lot of great on-campus organizations to get plugged into and there is plenty to get into off campus, both in Murfreesboro and in Nashville, which is only about 40 minutes away.
Am learning a lot Most of my professors are extremely knowledgeable in their topics. I think that MTSU has hired many well-educated professors who really know their stuff. I'm learning a lot from all of them, and I think I will continue to do so as I go further in my education.

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students Make sure you check out the scholarships available before you become a freshman (and after).
Bang for the buck The price is great! Plus there are lots of scholarships to help you out if you need them.
Am enjoying being here The atmosphere here is very laid back and it has beautiful buildings and outdoor seating areas where lots of the students hang out or study.
Am learning a lot I'm just a freshman, but I love all the diverse classes offered.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students It's great for any type of students because there is a lot of openness on campus. So many different varieties of people that you will find somewhere to fit in regardless.
Tips for prospective students Bring your A game, because everyone here is inspired to work hard. We are all proud to be Blue Raiders and want to go out with a bang. Do not be afraid to ask for help because majority of everyone is open to helping.
Bang for the buck The academics are some of the best in the country seeing as we're ranked #47 in public colleges for 2010-2011. I feel that there is so much offered that is free here, but cost at other colleges. Free printing and other services on campus, who could not love that?
Am enjoying being here I enjoy being here, not only for school, but for the fact of the students being so open and nice. In Tennessee there's a thing called southern comfort and we openly give it to everyone who is on our campus.
Am learning a lot I feel like I am learning a lot, in a party environment, coming from a big city, Murfreesboro keeps you grounded on the foundation of working hard.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students It's a wonderful school for music people! They have a GREAT music program! If I may say so, it's the best in the state of Tennessee! The Honors Program is great! It has wonderful professors and a great building (although it's kind of far from the center of campus). MTSU started off as a teacher college. The new education building is having the finishing touches put on it as we speak. There should also be a new parking garage in a few years and by the end of the fall 2011 semester (I think) the new Student Union will be finished! So students looking for the old and the new both encompasses in a campus should look no further than MTSU!
Tips for prospective students If you are applying for MTSU, make sure you get everything in ON TIME or EARLY. (I would suggest early!!!) Sometimes (with 20,000 students on campus) things can get a little hectic and if you apply later, your stuff can get lost. I hate to say this about my future alma mater, and I love MTSU dearly, but I know many students (myself included) who have had issues with one thing or another there. If you are like me and don't want to walk into the offices and talk to people, JUST DO IT. They can ignore emails and maybe even phone calls (although I don't think they do either, there are probably just so many that your's COULD get lost), but they CANNOT ignore you if you walk in and talk to them calmly (and politely!) what you are having an issue with. :) If you are nice to them, they are going to want to help you more. That's just advice for life, not just at MTSU! One last thing! MTSU has the highest number of required courses (also known as your general education courses). So just be prepared for taking more classes than your friends at different colleges!
Bang for the buck It's one of the cheapest schools in TN for sure! They only school that I looked at that was cheaper was Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville. My music theory teacher gave us a chart to compare the music theory class at MTSU (which is about $16 per lecture) and the same music theory class at Vanderbilt (which is about $75 per lecture if I remember right... It could've been more). You can see the obvious difference for the same classes. Plus music students from MTSU have gone on to North Texas University (one of THE music schools in the nation!!!) and have been exempted from theory there because of the amazing (and cheap!) theory teachers at MTSU!
Am enjoying being here I absolutely love the school and the town! I'm from a place about 35 minutes away from Murfreesboro so I am pretty familiar and comfortable with the area. There is some stuff to do off campus, and if you don't find anything interesting that you want to do there (or on campus... there is a movie theater on campus for $2 a ticket!) then Nashville is only about 35 minutes away from Murfreesboro! The violence rate this semester has been increasing from last semester. But MTSU is VERY good at spreading the word of ANY violent act that could be a threat to the students. It's one of the safest schools in Tennessee because we have our own police force (on top of the Murfreesboro police force!). Over all I am enjoying MTSU very much!
Am learning a lot I'm in the music program and all the teachers are wonderful here! They are really encouraging and want you to enjoy learning. I'm also in the Honors college and all of my general education courses that I have been taking have been honors. The classes are a lot smaller from what I've heard about Honors vs. non-Honors classes. My professors in the Honors College have all been very caring about their students so far, and they all have had PhD (so they know what they are talking about).

Am enjoying being here It gets very very boring here. Murfreesboro is also kind of dull to me as well, since I actually come from a larger city.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Use your money wisely
Tips for prospective students Do your housing application early. If you do not you will not like the dorm your are going to stay in. Make sure you keep up with all the deadline. Make sure you keep a planner it is going to become your bestfriend. It is going to help you keep up with everything.
Am enjoying being here Middle Tennessee State University is a good environment to be at. The one thing that I like about going to college here is that you can start you own club.
Am learning a lot Some of the course are esay but others challenge you. For me the course that gives you a hard time is the course you will come out knowing more about once you graduate.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students MTSU is a very diversified school. It is also a very large school. So, it is very likely that anyone can find their niche of friends at MTSU.
Tips for prospective students Common College Advice: 1. If you can, avoid the bad professors. It'll make college life better. Check out the professor reviews on koofers.com. 2. Buy books online. They are much cheaper than at the bookstores. 3. Make friends. Get active with some of the extracurricular activities. It is good to have a study break; that's what makes college so much fun.
Bang for the buck MTSU is not an expensive school. And if you're from the state of Tennessee, you may be eligible to knock off a chunk of the (in-state) tuition through the TN Lottery scholarship. The tuition pays for the neccessary funds of the courses--it is a reasonable amount, considering the prices of other schools.
Am enjoying being here Since Murfreesboro is my hometown, I had never thought that MTSU would be a good school to attend. But I was proven wrong for thinking so, after my first few days at MTSU. It may not be the prestigious school or the well-known school; however, altogether, the academics, student life, and opportunities that come with MTSU are wonderful.
Am learning a lot Although there are a few bad professors, the professors I have had so far are wonderful. Many of them take the time to explain the details of the topic as well as be willing to take time to meet with you. Having that kind of experience, I learn so much. Just be sure to read and study.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I never feel unsafe on campus even at night.
Greek Life Greek life always is doing stuff on campus. There are fundraisers, fun day, tailgating, parties, events with free food, etc!
Clubs and Activities I have not joined any clubs yet because there are so many to choose from!
Great for these types of students This school is for people who study, enjoy a great upbeat environment, and students who want to get a great education.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Campus always has so much going on, you never know what to do or expect!
Bang for the buck Middle Tennessee State University is not expensive at all. It is definitely a great deal.
What to do for fun There are many options on what to do while on breaks from school, weekends, or during the night. There are movies, bars, hookah, skating, bowling, study groups, churches, and much more that always have something going on!
Food and Dining There are so many options on campus alone!
Dorm Life I do not stay in the dorms, but apartments surrounding the campus. It is not very expensive and it is a great experience.
Academic Rigor It is definitely a lot tougher than I imagined it would be but it is totally worth it!
Tips for prospective students Check out your teachers and their ratings online!
In three sentences The environment is very chill and enjoyable. The faulty and staff are great and very helpful and there are so many classes to choose from! I absolutely love Middle Tennessee State University!

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety is good. There are always a lot of campus enforcers that patrol the area and there's always a lot of people to help as well. The campus always tries to keep everyone in touch if anything happens and they do their best to keep the place safe and happy
Greek Life Greek life is pretty much the same as it is everywhere I guess. Greek Students can be a little crazy at times, but they are over all good. They do a lot of stuff as well and take care of each other too.
Clubs and Activities There are a lot of clubs that are on campus and they meet regularly. They are lively and really fun to be apart of. I was in the Japanese classes and got to be apart of the Language Lab which was always fun. They also try to encourage students to check out similar stuff that they are apart of as well.
Great for these types of students Music students have pretty good classes here. but all other students are good as well, the classes for a lot of the majors are pretty nice and are always trying to do better.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Stadium is really nice, students get in on some discounts or for free I think. There can be some regular annually festivals and things as well.
Bang for the buck Living here is pretty cheap. Outside of campus apartments run from 400-500$ a month only. People are nice, food is good but cheap to buy and there's a lot of stuff to do if you want to. Gas prices are also pretty cheap here as well, cheaper than a lot of other places.
What to do for fun There are a lot of on campus activities that you can go to, the stadium is also packed regularly, clubs, movies and other things. Outside of campus there's a big park nearby, shops, golf, workout and exercise places as well.
Food and Dining MTSU has a lot of shops and restaurants on campus so there's a lot to choose from, but outside the campus, Murfreesboro as a ton of restaurants and other eateries that you can visit. alot of the stores and restaurants are also pretty cheap too and easy to find/get to.
Dorm Life The dorms are a little small, but they are pretty nice, the campus has a lot of shops and restaurants there and the students are pretty friendly so it's nice to live there.
Academic Rigor Classes are good, many of them need you to focus on them a lot if you want good grades, and of course you have some of the classes that can be pretty harsh. But there are a lot of classes and teachers that are willing to work with you and help you out if you need it. Students are really nice as well and helpful too.
Tips for prospective students Gen Ed classes first. MTSU is good in its sports and musical area, but computer Sci as well as art and many other majors are good here as well.
In three sentences A good school for those in Tennessee. Very nice campus, that's always improving. Teachers are overall, good to have and helpful.

Categories Comments Campus Safety We have our own police force as well as its own telephone number. They offer an escort service to and from your car for night class, although I have taken a few and have not felt unsafe yet. The campus is always busy so chances are you'll be watched out for one way or another.
Clubs and Activities I participate in the rugby club sport. There are numerous clubs and club sports available for everyone. It's a great way to make friends and come out of your shell. It prepares you for real world situations and also opens up opportunities for social events. You can even create your own club with enough support!
Great for these types of students -music -art -nursing -engineering -aerospace -Athletic Training/Exercise Science (BEST!!!) - Many other majors/ interests...and the advisers are very helpful and can even help you decide what is best for you!
What to do for fun Their are plenty of things to do on and around campus. Clubs, club sports, and Greek life are the obvious but there is also entertainment from time to time and movies for a dollar in the theater. Various places in the community and campus organizations also put on events.
Food and Dining Can be a bit expensive without a meal plan but the choices along with how many convenient locations for either a quick snack or full meal make it a good area.
Dorm Life I did not live in a dorm but from stories and going ons around campus it seemed to be a good choice.
Tips for prospective students If taking advantage of the online courses through this university, remember to devote enough time to it as you would a class that meets every day. They are very helpful and I would recommend them but it would benefit you if you even set up a time like an on campus class that you meet with your online course. Get to know every professor you have. You never know where they can help and how tightly they are connected to the top. That being said be sure to get input from other students and even check sites that rate professors before picking your courses. Use good judgment when it comes to course load and always remember summer school is a great option.
In three sentences A large but not too large of a community. Plenty of opportunity to find or expand on the things you love. Skilled professors that really know and enjoy their field of knowledge.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Great for majority of students who don't mind a fairly large campus and student body. If you're looking to get plugged in somewhere MTSU is the place for you, there's a club or sports team for just about anything.
Tips for prospective students I would definitely recommend MTSU to students. Only advice is to look at the campus map before classes start to find out which buildings you're going to be in and the easiest routes there. Oh and if it's going to rain prepare to get wet.
Bang for the buck For what you're paying for the environment and atmosphere is awesome around campus. Great professors and staff, plus MTSU has lots of interesting classes and a wide variety of major and minor programs.
Am enjoying being here Even though the student population seems huge in number, the campus isn't usually extremely crowded. Plus, it is pretty easy to get around campus with the bus systems and sidewalks that lead everywhere.
Am learning a lot The majority of professors here are wonderful and really seem to care about the students learning the material. Many great teachers and different variety of learning tactics.

Categories Comments Campus Safety We have on campus police, if you're scared to walk alone at night you can definitely count on them to escort you to where ever! We also have an awesome alert system where the campus emails everyone of suspicious activities, these alerts can even be sent to your phone via text message!
Greek Life We have many fraternities and sororities for students to pledge to! There's even fraternity housing right at the edge of campus with beautiful houses, we call it Greek Row! It's a great way to socialize with other students and get a head start on your networking!
Clubs and Activities We have all types of clubs, intramural sports, and even greek life! If we don't have what you're looking for start a club of your own up!
Great for these types of students MTSU is great for all types of students! Even those who have trouble doing well academically because we have the best tutoring resources on campus, and it's all free for us students!!!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Never walk over the seal in the quad in front of the James Walker Library and the BAS! Because if you do you won't graduate on time! Haha just kidding.
Bang for the buck MTSU is not only a great place to go to school for the next 4 years of your college career, it is also the best choice for those interested in the recording industry major in the nation! MTSU also has other amazing programs too such as Business, Aerospace, Pre-nursing, and many more!
What to do for fun There are many student organizations you can join it's fabulous! There is also a recreation center for those who like to stay in shape or do sports!
Food and Dining Meal plans are great, especially with two all you can eat dining halls on campus! Also, the cyber cafe is a life saver for those late night cravings!
Dorm Life It's a great experience, especially if you're a first time freshmen! You meet amazing new friends they become your family!
Academic Rigor It's easy if you focus, focus, focus!
Tips for prospective students Always stay on top of your work, have fun, and remember you are true blue!
In three sentences Great student community. Awesome student resources. Incredible college advisers!

Categories Comments Campus Safety The MTSU police don't play around that's for sure! They are always out and about. Which makes for a lot of safety on and around campus. But for a tip: they LOVE giving parking tickets. If you're a student....DO NOT park in teacher parking even if you are about to be late for class. You will find a bright yellow envelope on your windshield, with a great big ticket in it.
Greek Life Again, I'm not the best candidate on this topic, either. I've not been involved in Greek life on campus, but I know many people who have and they enjoy it a lot!
Clubs and Activities There are many ways to get involved on campus. Just jump in and find out what you like best.
Great for these types of students All! I am a strong believer that college can be for anyone. If you put your mind to it, you can do it. It may not be something you want to do, and that is fine, but if getting a degree is what's best for you...go for it!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There are not many unusual locations on campus in my opinion. Although, campus is huge and maybe I just haven't discovered them, yet.
Bang for the buck As with most colleges, MTSU has a high price to better your education. The best advice I could give to anyone trying to attend any college would be, apply for lots and lots and lots of scholarships! And more importantly, keep your grades up! Lottery scholarship is a huge plus but in order to receive it, you have to keep that GPA up!
What to do for fun So I've heard, MTSU will be opening a brand new bowling alley in the fall. Lots of exiting things are about to happen on campus here in the near future!
Food and Dining As of right now, the food is decent in my opinion. In the fall though, it is rumored that our campus will be opening great new places to eat for students!
Dorm Life I wouldn't be a good candidate for this particular area, as I only live about 15 minutes down the road, away from campus. From what I've heard though, dorms are a great way to branch out from your home life and start your new college life!
Tips for prospective students Get to campus a little early as parking can be rough! But with our two new parking garages, we are hoping that parking will get a whole lot better soon!
In three sentences Middle Tennessee State University is an excellent place for higher education studies. The friendly and well educated staff makes MTSU such a terrific place to be. I would recommend this school to anyone looking to get a higher education and better themselves for their future.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The school has is one police department and will escort you to your car or home if you need it.I have never had to use them yet.
Greek Life I am not a Greek but form what my Greek friends say and from what i seen, i would say its awesome.
Clubs and Activities There are literally hundreds of clubs at MTSU, and what i like is that you can actually make your own club if you have enough support for it.They are building some new buildings so more activities maybe here soon.
Great for these types of students Science, math, computer, music and performing arts students
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Not any that i know of
Bang for the buck But i would like to say that tuition has been rising just about every year.So i may soon be less bang for your buck.
Food and Dining I want to say really 3 to 4 stars depends
Dorm Life NA. I did not stay in a dorm room but at an on campus apartment.Mines was an older building that was renovated some years ago.
Academic Rigor Some teachers are relentless and others are easy going, but i would say most are tolerable
Tips for prospective students Great school overall, if you have an engineering or computer major and live in Tennessee, I would give MTSU a try or at least consider it in choosing a college.
In three sentences I think MTSU is a great school to get a good education at a good price, that is if you live in Tennessee.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students MTSU is great for all types of students. The campus is diverse and has many great opportunities.
Tips for prospective students My tips for prospective students is to get involved. College is a new experience, the door to to real world. The more opportunities that you indulge and participate in the better your experience will be.
Bang for the buck MTSU offers a great cost to education experience. The student library and computer labs offer unlimited printing that is included in tuition, the recreation center has many activities and opportunities for achieving fitness goals.
Am enjoying being here There is always something going on in the court yards and around campus. The athletic events are great fun and I am impressed with the education that I have received.
Am learning a lot MTSU is an excellent public school. The Social Work department is exceptional. My past professors are always eager to help if I need anything and are always interested in how my life is going.

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students Stay focus and study hard. Don't forget the reason for why you came to college. If you need help ask! MTSU has many tutors on campus that will help you with anything.
Bang for the buck Apply for as many scholarships as you can. The dream scholarship will pay for your tuition for 4 years. The tuition year is not high at all, especially if you live in TN
Am enjoying being here The environment here is great. There is so much for you to do on campus and they always keep you updated on the latest events.
Am learning a lot The teachers here are wonderful! If you ever need any help, you can always visit them during their office hours and they are more than willing to help you in any way they can.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Several shootings and attacks occur, especially late night. Would not recommend walking to car by yourself.
Great for these types of students anyone in the area, as there really aren't many options
What to do for fun Fitness area, local restaurants, library
Tips for prospective students Research your professors before you sign up for their classes to make sure their teaching style will actually help you learn.
In three sentences In my area, there is really no other college you can attend. I wish the teachers would really TEACH and not incorporate useless information or activities into classes. It would be nice to actually care about the students' educations and not just their money.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Here at MTSU we have one of the best police forces around. Our campus has a real police force instead of just campus police. We also have a 24/7 escort serves you can call a cop at anytime of day or night and he will be there in 2minutes to escort you where ever you need to go. We also have panic buttons that are around campus you just push the button and a police officer will be there in 5minutes or less. As a Criminal Justice major I have learned first hand how amazing our police force is and can say that there is not a time when I don't feel safe at MT
Greek Life Greek life is growing so fast at MT its already been big over the years but it has been rapidly growing over the last couple of years and its such a great thing to be apart of. It bring so many more events to MTSU the Greeks are always doing something to show off there colors and its always such a blast. When you join there brother hood or sister hood they help you along this journey through college by making you put you work before your extracurricular activities!
Clubs and Activities MTSU has a club for just about anything and if they don't have the club you want you can get 4 people and make it. The clubs around MT are not as involved as they could be its more Greek life then anything but there are always activities going on from little fairs to bands playing and all sorts of stuff so its very easy to stay involved!
Great for these types of students MTSU is great for anyone but a few of there best programs are the Aerospace program which is #1 and there Recording industry major which is also #1 and they have many other great programs as well! Such as Criminal justice, all the science programs and there nursing programs as well.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus At MT there is a Blue horseshoe that has a penny under it form 1911 which was the year MTSU was founded this is located in Walnut Grove. There is also a building called the KOM its located on the northwest side of MT it was the first learning building built at MTSU.
Bang for the buck On campus we have two 24/7 computer labs that have free paper all you can print, we also have one of the best libraries out of all the college's in Tennessee. They are always giving away free food and apparel which when you become a college student free will become your favorite word. There is just so much to offer at MTSU!
What to do for fun There are so many things to do for fun at MT but my favorite would have to be there amazing gym! The gym consist of 6 basketball courts, 5 Racket ball rooms, in soccer court, in door volley ball court, yoga room, spin class room, weight room, treadmill room, dance room, a rock wall, Olympic size swimming pool with a diving board and a slide and so much more! Also around campus there are may things going on such as video game nights, and the music hall get together, there are two bowling alleys around campus, laser tag there really is just something for everyone!
Food and Dining Here at MTSU they have great food, there is 2 all you can eat buffets, Chic-fil-a, Subway, Pizza Hut and the list just goes on and on. The food is so great and they have something for everyone on campus, but there is also this thing called the freshmen 15, so even know the food is great just watch your eating habits!
Dorm Life Dorm life is such a great thing to do at least once in college. I met so many great people who will be life long friends in the dorm! It also helps to keep you up to date on whats going on around campus so you can stay involved. MT has very safe and secure dorms and its always nice to have someone right down the hall that maybe able to help you on your homework!
Academic Rigor They are all about academics at MT if you join any club or get into Greek life you must obtain a high GPA and be on good academic standing. At MT the scores were starting to fall and the teachers fixed that real fast by offering more study sessions and other ways to to take advantage of students free time and now for the last 3 years MTSU overall GPA has went up and is looking strong for the future!
Tips for prospective students When you get all set MT take the time and go around the campus and find your classes, it may not be to big of a campus but its growing every year! Second when you get to your classes find someone in every class that you can study with so that way you will always be ready on test day. Now last but not least DO NOT procrastinate if you have a 5 page paper due on Friday do not wait till the Thursday before to start on it!
In three sentences Mtsu has a great campus and is growing every year. The class president is such a great guy he is always out and about helping other and being there when needed. All in all MTSU is a great school with so much opportunity!

Categories Comments Campus Safety MTSU has their own Police force - and yes they are campus police but they are full-time officers of the law that are on campus Only and there are emergency poles every 1,000 feet
Clubs and Activities There are sooo many active clubs and organizations, and SGA is great at bring entertainers and entertainment to campus, plus if there is a club that you like or have an idea for - you can create it!
Great for these types of students Anyone! You will find our own niche no matter what!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The hang-out at Walnut Grove and the Rockwall!
Bang for the buck There are amazing resources and MTSU is a wonderful school to earn a degree.
What to do for fun There is a new activity every month and there are movies every weekendThe R
Food and Dining They try to bring as much variety as possible and have many mini commerical brands such as Starbucks, Subway, and pizza hut on campus
Dorm Life The Dorms are some of the nicest I Have seen and activites on campus keeps life entertaining
Academic Rigor The Professors are always challenging you to be your best and there are great rewards when you can rise to the challenge ... but dont worry they wont give you anything you cant handle
Tips for prospective students PARKING! If you are a commuter - plan on getting here AT LEAST 45 minutes early as trying to find a parking spot is a NIGHTMARE and a HALF!!!!
In three sentences Great School that is really active and full of school spirt. The Entire community stands behind our athletes and is full of True Blue spirit. The school is always trying to bring fun stuff to campus

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus has a police dispatch that is always on call, they will come meet walk you to classes or to your car. I was 16 when I started here and I definitely utilized this. I know the fear is, what if they are creeper? don't even worries these guys are great and they are thoroughly checked out. Also any time something happens on campus every student is notified, you never have to worry about being out of the loop.
Clubs and Activities One of the major groups to join and I stress this to incoming freshmen, join trio SSS. Student Support Services, these guys are incredible they are there for guidance, stress relief, they've always got food they help you study and prepare for finals, free tutoring, scholarship help and most importantly they are there for encouragement. It is by an application process and even if you get put on a waiting list it is worth it. They've been an incredible help to me in my freshmen year.
What to do for fun The Rec center is amazing! We have pools, wally ball, weight room, an indoor track, basketball, volleyball, even a rock climbing wall! If that doesn't interest you the have an area in the Rec center that is filled with info on up coming trips that students can take, sports tournaments, hiking, and often times white water rafting. We have multiple movie theaters and there is always something going on each night at campus.
Food and Dining There's is a vast majority of dining that can easily strike any ones fancy. Any where from down home American subway, and burger places, to Chinese, Mexican, Italian, the food choices are incredible. There's one place on campus called McCallies and the food is always different every day. Aside from the salad bar and pizza bar, the food is always different.
Dorm Life I personally do not live on campus I commute, but i have never once heard a complaint about dorm life. If you end up with a room that just simply does not fit your liking I've heard that all of the residents are more than willing to switch and help you with the process of changing rooms.
Academic Rigor Academically I believe some of the Gen Ed's are absurd, but it is helpful especially to freshmen who may be still toying with the idea of what major to choose. The classes are unique some can be a lot more difficult than others, but all are a necessary evil.
Tips for prospective students If you show to all of your classes, you will never have to worry about having a,mean teacher. If you put the time and the effort your grades will reflect it and your financially aid will too.
In three sentences MTSU is rather unorganized in certain areas, but as a whole this college is respectable and openly diverse. It's a good college to start if you just want to get a taste or simply a good starter college before transferring. As far as finishing this an incredible college to attend and the teachers are warm and engaging, the entire college is well staffed.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Best police I have ever met! They are always around and they are all so friendly and I feels very safe with the variety of resources they have to offer with alerts for dangers around campus to their adopt-a-cop system where a police officer will come to your precise location and walk you to your destination if you feel unsafe. The cops are superb!
Clubs and Activities There are many organizations that Middle Tennessee State University has to offer and many more are forming. Every student here, which are over 27,000 students, can find a group that suit their interests. If a student is looking for a different organization the student just has to make a proposal and get a few signatures and they have started their own organization for their interest.
Great for these types of students Great for the underprivileged student who doesn't have much money or education experience for MTSU has many scholarship opportunities and free tutoring for all it's students. MTSU makes sure that all it's students have the tools to succeed.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There are many cultural festivities that go around all of campus with ethic foods and club nights where students and get together and loosent up from the stress.
Bang for the buck I definitely think the price that I am paying for tuition is very well worth it, I am getting a fabulous education, great meals, and independence living in a dorm. I am very happy with where my money is being spent.
What to do for fun I am currently waiting for the next season of Band of Blue, college marching band, to start back up next fall, otherwise, I go to many organizational meetings, such as Lambda, and participate as a chair member in my area(dorm) government.
Food and Dining There is a lot of choices they have to offer from the top fast food chains to their dining halls which make the perfect home foods. The dining halls actually got me to start eating healthier and eating breakfast, two things I never used to do. I am very thankful for the remarkable food they offer here.
Dorm Life I love my dorm! If I hadn't stayed in a dorm I wouldn't of gotten the true college experience! Gracy Hall is maximum eight minutes away from everything on campus I definitely picked a place where I want to be for a long time, speaking of, I have applied to be an RA next fall because I love it so much!
Academic Rigor Even only being a second semester freshman I feel like Middle Tennessee State University is really setting me up solid for my future and the academics of it all had me really excited to jump out there and get going with it.
Tips for prospective students Work hard from the beginning and never doubt your ability to finish the semester because every student can succeed as long as they push hard. Never buy your books, save that money and check with the teacher on how much you actually need the book, the library carries just about every textbook the teachers require so if you don't need it too often just visit the library, it's a beautiful place!
In three sentences MTSU offers the top notch education experience for all it's students to thrive and succeed in his or her future life. The college offers a strong and firmly built community that makes each of it's students feel apart of the True Blue experience, what we call home. There are so many people and and so many experiences that students can learn about outside the classroom with it's variety of organizations and activities.

Tips for prospective students Get to campus early- parking is AWFUL! And beware of people smoking all over the place, that seems to be pretty common here.
Bang for the buck It is cheap as far as tuition, but I feel like I am getting just as good of an education as I would at another more expensive school.
Am enjoying being here I love MTSU, and really feel like I fit in here. It is a fun, diverse campus with many ways to get involved.

Bang for the buck The college is very helpful about giving scholarship money for good grades and through the specific departments.
Will enjoy being here The campus is a true college campus which will be a great experience for everyone and it is not even an hour away from a major city.
Will learn a lot This school doesn't just hand out certificates for being an athletic trainer, it actually has a degree with a rigorous course designed to make you learn and work hard. From talking with people on campus the regular English classes are hard too and the honors is not just for smaller classes, it is also for harder workers.

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students Make sure you check with your professor on which books that you will need before purchasing them. I have found more than once that some book stores might not have the correct list for each professor. Some teachers teach differently. Also make sure to read the reviews for each professor before enrolling in the class, it can give you a great idea on what the professor might be like. If your applying to live on campus or for financial aid make sure you read all the deadlines as well as any notices from the University. At least once a week check your Blue Raider emails for any notices or advertisements for events on campus. Give yourself plenty of time to find parking on campus, if you park in one of the larger parking lots make sure you know the bus routes.
Bang for the buck Due to economic times many teachers have been understanding with the purchasing of textbooks in for classes. One teacher I have found taught her English class through articles and books on the web saving paper. Some only being require you to purchase one textbook. Many classes now have power point so the assignment or readings will appear on the screen in class in case anyone has forgotten their book. The tuition is fair and not over priced for what your getting. If you live on campus the prices for food and materials are reasonable, occasionally having specials or sales. Especially at the end of each semesters. The book store will buy back your textbooks at the end of the semester. You have two bookstores off campus where you can sell your books or recycle.
Am enjoying being here The campus is fantastic! You can find almost everything here either in the bookstore or just a few miles off campus. Close to interstates if you commute. It doesn't take that much of a walk to walk from one side of the campus to the other.
Am learning a lot Is definitively worth attending. The campus has many diverse classes you can choose from. The teachers are very easy to communicate with or get a hold of if you need assistance with anything. I have even found myself researching for electives I can take just for fun. If you like online classes, MTSU online classes are easy to navigate with the program called D2L (desire to learn). If you haven't used the program before fear not for most teachers will walk you through it in the discussion boards. Some of the first assignments I have found for undergraduate are first to familiarizing you with D2L. The online assistance has been helpful as well. The Library is great, as well as the many computer labs available in other buildings.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck There are a lot of fantastic eating places where students can eat at - whether at McCallies, which includes a Pasta Bar, Salad Bar, Grill, the Regular Buffet, and the Dessert Bar. There is also the James Union Building (JUB), which includes the Regular Buffet and Grill and the Keathley University Center (KUC), which includes Pizza Hut, Einstein’s, Quinzo’s, Chick-Fil-A and Home Zone. In addition to those, another dining area is CyberCafe, which includes Subway and Lone Pizza.
Am enjoying being here There are 22 residence halls on campus where a student can make his/her home while attending MTSU. While every living area is unique, each residence hall offers a community that supports academic excellence at the university. Professional staff and student leaders live and work in the halls, coordinating services and programs that help students achieve success both in and out of the classroom. By living on campus, they would become part of a vital living-learning community and make friendships that will last a lifetime.
Am learning a lot There are nine undergarduate colleges where a student can obtain his/her college degree in whether it is Basic and Applied Sciences, Behaviorial and Health Sciences, Business, Education, Graduate Studies, University College, Liberal Arts, Mass Communication, or University Honors.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students MTSU is a really good school. You will learn so much! The professors, advisers, counselors, and tutors will properly prepare you for life. MTSU like a tiny community. The diversity is also really huge. You will make many friends from other countries and learn about their lives. Any dream is possible here! You can accomplish anything with effort and hope!
Tips for prospective students Please make the scholarship deadline! Take advantage of any scholarship oppurtunity, or you will regret it later. Books are NOT paid for in the tuition. You must buy them yourself. Some books are really expensive, so I highly recommend that any prospective student take my advice. I really don't want to see anyone make the same mistake that I did. I had to take loans because I didn't turn in my transcript before the deadline.
Bang for the buck The tuition is pretty descent for on campus and off campus housing. Off campus housing, the apartments, are more expensive due to the fact that everything that goes on in them is your responsibility. If anything gets messed up, you will have to pay for it. Mostly married people or graduate students stay in them, because they actually have jobs. The apartments are no different than apartments that people move into in a city or town. The on campus dorms are cheaper. They have special dorms for Freshman experience, and those are the most expensive dorms on campus. They are worth it though. The accommodations are really nice! The Freshman dorm I currently live in was built two years ago. Each floor has a lobby, 4 bathrooms(1 single, and one huge bathroom with many showers and toilets), water fountains, and 4 smaller lobby areas( 1 for each corner). The doors are really thick, dark wood! Nothing can bust through them. The security is also very tight. You can't go anywhere without your id card or key, or you will be locked out of your floor. I feel pretty safe in my dorm! There are also personal tutors in the dorm as well. That's also a good part about living on campus! The tuition for commuter students is also reasonable. It's not over expensive. The tuition is about $6000 for commuters. Majority of MTSU's students are commuters. The students who have the hope scholarship and other grants wouldn't have to worry about a thing when it comes to paying tuition.
Am enjoying being here I love MTSU! When I first got here, MTSU was getting ready to celebrate its 100 year anniversary. I am so proud to attend such a remarkable school year! I graduated high school during its 100 year anniversary and I entered MTSU during its 100 year anniversary. Moments like these can rarely happen in a lifetime. The welcoming conjugation was fun. The Dean of MTSU threw a block party to welcome the freshman to make them feel comfortable. MTSU also had a two week long welcoming week for Freshman as well. I went rock wall climbing, I ate lots of food during the celebrations, and I watched game shows happen. They were amazing because they were real-life wheel of fortune competitions. Students were competing to win $10,000 of scholarship money by answering questions. I really thought the fact that MTSU is having its on StoryCorps is awesome! Story Corps is an organization that has a library of recorded interviews of history. I was really pleased. I want to be remembered in history forever with hearing my story. Someday i will tell my story to StoryCorps. The next nice part about this school is its many organizations. There are over 200 of them. I am currently trying to jon the Savoire Faire, a modeling organization, and the Pre-Vet society at MTSU. This is a place where anyone can make their dreams come true if they put enough effort and hard work into their dreams. I am very happy to be here!
Am learning a lot I have learned so much at MTSU so far. The classes Im taking now are all general education. They may be reviews of things in high school, but they are much more detailed versions. For example, in high school biology, I have learned about the processes of mitosis and meiosis. I thought I knew everything about them, but I was wrong. I learned about the phases that happen before the M phase(mitosis/meiosis). I didn't know that the s, G1, and G2 phases existed. I was very happy to learn new information. Even though I'm a science major, my favorite class is Cultural Anthropology! I have learned so much about today's and the past society of America. I look at society differently now. I was so strongly influenced by this class, that I actually attended a social lecture from a professor from Vanderbilt University to learn more. My eyes have been opened. I feel like a better person. Cultural Anthropology reveals the truth about society. I'm very proud that I signed up for this general ed. It may be the most challenging, but I have come to love it. I am making A's in all of my general ed classes, except for the sciences. Those require a lot of hours to study. I am making B's in those classes so far. I believe that anyone would love to be here. The professors are generous and they are willing to help you with anything you're having problems with.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) is a great college for all kinds of student, whether they are residents of Murfreesboro or foreign exchange students. Students are able to learn in class as well as from each other. Most professors are considerate of their students and will help them if they have questions. Personality wise, again, all students are welcome and can learn in the different aspects of MTSU. For example, an active student will explore more of what MTSU has to offer, whereas a shy and quiet student might be able to focus more in the library and enjoy the stillness in a studious place. There are also clubs and events that can relate to all kinds of students. Many programs at MTSU sponsor these events, and if students would like to be a part of them, all they have to do is ask about it and faculty members are happy to help. All who attend MTSU will enjoy their experience and have wonderful memories of their college life.
Tips for prospective students At Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU), students should always attend class, no matter what. If they must skip a day, they should let the professors know beforehand. What is discussed in class might not be exactly what the textbook says, and some professor might give key information to students about exams. Sometimes, the professors will even give students a study guide for their next exam and only attending class will allow them to know what to expect. Also, students should always study for their exams and finish any necessary homework assignments. Doing well on exams and homework assignments are the keys to doing well in college. Also, some professors at MTSU will allow students to be exempt from final exams due to good grades on exams and homework as well as attendance in class. This can be a big break for students, especially if they are taking difficult courses. Overall, students should always attend class, study for exams, and finish all homework assignments. These three will help students to do well in their courses.
Bang for the buck Tuition at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) is nice and with what is being taught in the courses, it is worth it! Although MTSU offers many different opportunities for their students, the college does have a few minor situations that can hurt a student's account. For one, there are a few professors who do not teach their subjects very well, even though they are very nice people. Some of them do not respond to their emails and are difficult to get in touch with when a student has a question. Also, the food and supplies one can buy at MTSU is a little overpriced. Sometimes the food is not the best but is still good to eat, and the supplies are similar to ones in stores. They are just more expensive on campus. Besides the few professor problems and the overpriced meals and supplies, MTSU has many different places to go for students to study or just relax. One of MTSU’s favorite buildings is the library. It has four floors and there is always a nice clean place to study. Plus with a Starbucks down on the first floor, it is helpful to get a little snack or a cup of coffee while studying for exams without having to walk to another building. Overall, majority of what MTSU offers is well worth the money spent!
Am enjoying being here With Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU), there is more to do than just studying and attending class. There are many clubs and events happening all around MTSU. These events are sponsored by different MTSU programs to express talents of students as well as give others the enjoyment of a show. Sometimes, students can be a part of these programs by simply volunteering. Also, there are times when free food is offered, allowing students to relax during a rough week of school as well as find time to meet new friends. So many people attend MTSU and many that I have met have become my dearest friends. There is also a building called the REC Center at MTSU, where students can take a break from studying and exercise, whether it is running, lifting weights, playing basketball, or swimming. There are many chances that students can take to enjoy their college life at MTSU to the fullest.
Am learning a lot Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) offers many different courses, teaching at many different levels, to students of every kind. The more one is attending, the more one is learning. Each major studies what their subject consists of and the many techniques needed to fully understand how students can make it in this world based on their interest. The majority of the professors are considerate of every student and are willing to help those who are in need of it. They are available via email or during their office hours. There are also tutoring sessions offered for specific classes that will help students to do better in that course. The best part is they are all free for MTSU students. There are many opportunities for students to learn in all aspects for their career goals. All it takes is the dedication and the spirit to accomplish their learning goals here at MTSU. Students will not be disappointed with what MTSU has to offer.

Categories Comments Campus Safety This is one area that can really be improved. There is not nearly enough security on campus, in my opinion.
Greek Life I'm not involved in any, but I have many friends who are in fraternities/sororities who love it.
Clubs and Activities There are plenty of clubs to join and a lot of activities for specific majors. It's also easy to find musicians on campus to form a band with.
Great for these types of students The campus is very flat, so riding a bike is always a good option on campus.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Hanging out outside the KUC is always entertaining. It's the main highway of the university, and the standard spot for venders, street preachers, protestors, etc. to set up.
Bang for the buck MTSU is a much cheaper option than other mid-state universities, such as Belmont, Lipscomb, and Vanderbilt, and still gives you a good education. There are some great professors employed there, specifically in the Mass Comm department.
What to do for fun People-watching is my favorite MTSU past-time. The volume and diversity of students make it an interesting place.
Food and Dining The on-campus restaurants and fast food places are nice, but I've never eaten at the cafeteria.
Dorm Life I've never been in a dorm here, so I can't say.
Tips for prospective students Don't waste your time driving around for a good parking spot....just park in the back and start walking.
In three sentences MTSU is a very diverse place, which I love, but is over-crowded, in my opinion. It's a good place to learn, but not a good place to park. It does have it's positives, however, such as the great Mass Comm program.

Categories Comments Campus Safety MTSU has taken many great steps towards the safety of everyone on its campus. MTSU has its own 24/7 police force, so their response time is very quick. There is also student patrol, that provide escorts, that way people can feel more comfortable walking to their car, or anywhere else on campus. You can also sign up for text messages and phone calls if anything happens regarding your safety on campus.
Greek Life Greek life at MTSU is great. There are intramural games held, with its dedicated field, along with 8 different houses that are for the different organizations. All 8 of the houses are located in a row, known as Greek Row.
Clubs and Activities I wouldn't even know where to begin! We have a huge variety of clubs and organizations that you can join. Just recently, a car club was added! There is something here for everyone.
Great for these types of students Aerospace related majors, recording industry majors, and accounting/finance majors.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus In the quadrangle, outside the library, there are certain trees that will echo what you say if you are in a certain spot. Also, the Library is modeled after a famous building. I'll let you figure that one out.
Bang for the buck The cost of going to school at Middle Tennessee State University is great when compared to other schools. They offer a lot of scholarships, and I truly believe that the education received is worth far more than the cost to get it.
What to do for fun During the school year, the school holds different shows, and events on campus. The school also has its own movie theater that plays movies picked by the students, for around $2 - $5. There are also fliers posted around campus at all times with events that are held off of campus. You will not be bored regardless of what you choose to do.
Food and Dining If you live on campus, there are various meal plans available to choose from. They are really good, and offer a variety of food, so you will not have to eat what feels like the same thing every day! If the buffet is not your thing, they have places like Subway, Pizza Hut, Chick-fil-a, and many other options.
Dorm Life The dorms are like any other college dorm, and by that I mean a little rowdy, but definitely manageable. If you like convenience, the dorm is where you want to be. There are a few located in the heart of campus, which is great for those days whenever you are running late.
Academic Rigor The work load is as hard as you make it. The teachers do a great job of getting the point across to most everyone. As long as you do your part, like homework, projects, essays, and frequent studying, you will succeed.
Tips for prospective students Take a tour at least once, and most definitely talk to the different departments of the major(s) that you are interested in. Also, talking to students in programs that you are interested in can really help too.
In three sentences Middle Tennessee State University is a great school for almost all majors. The reason why, is that they offer a wide variety of fields to study. The campus is a great learning environment, with friendly people and a great staff to help you along the way.

Categories Comments Campus Safety You are constantly alerted by cellular phone if anything happens on campus, usually with a description of the suspect.
Food and Dining The university have all kinds of choices: from bagels to sushi. Most of the dining is located within the University Center, they do have various cafeterias located throughout the campus, which each offer buffets of various foods that change each day.
Dorm Life I am a commuter, but the dorm life seems like it is fun from an outside perspective. I just cannot handle the small rooms.
Academic Rigor The university takes itself seriously, and the teachers expect you to do whatever it is they assign.
Tips for prospective students The parking is pretty far away from most of the classes and is highly competitive, so if you are commuting I would recommend leaving early if you want to get to your assigned class on time.
In three sentences MTSU is a great school located in the heart of Murfreesboro near the town square. It has some wonderful teachers whose take their jobs quite seriously and thoroughly try to touch each and every students lives by challenging them to strive for excellence. Categories Comments What to do for fun There are plenty of things to do, literally walk down the campus and you will find something.
Food and Dining There are some okay places to eat, however you can pay for the good stuff and it is mostly fairly priced. the only bad part is the hours of operation.
Dorm Life I have not lived in a dorm, nor do I plan to.
Academic Rigor The only bad parts of this university is the bad point of every university, meaning that you may or may not get good teachers.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you know, or have an idea of what you want to do in life before you go to school. Going without that is just a waste of money.
In three sentences MTSU is a great school with an awesome variety of people. The Main plus would have to be the size, because the school is neither too big nor too small. This allows the school to seem a bit more personal than others.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Walnut Grove is the place for tailgating!
Bang for the buck I am so happy about my choice to attend MTSU. I have met so many people and experienced so many things I wouldn't have otherwise.
What to do for fun so many organizations to become a part of, movies on campus for cheap, movie theatres, bowling and billiards, Nashville isn't far, parks
Food and Dining Expensive, but good restaurants. If you like buffets, you'll appreciate the two all you can eat buffets on campus for a pretty decent price.
Dorm Life I lived in an old dorm that has now been rennovated. Before that, there was no oven or stove to cook with. I had to eat a lot of microwave meals. I was also a freshman, so I had the stupid meal plan with 10 meals at our buffets per week and flex bucks to use. I hate buffets so I pretty much hated that I had to have a meal plan because I lived on campus. It was nice to not have to worry about parking and walking every where wasn't bad either.
Academic Rigor I don't think it's the most difficult school ever, but the classes are challenging. So don't drop the ball- work hard!
Tips for prospective students Don't get overwhelmed by the size, it's not too much. Don't think that everyone here gets shot or stabbed, because it's just like every other college town- there is crime, so be cautious. The construction is annoying, yes, but the new parts of campus look amazing.
In three sentences Large school with great opportunities for students.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I've never felt un-safe on campus. I suppose it would be nice to see more security personnel sometimes. I've never had any problems.
Greek Life I really don't know much about the Greek life except that it exists. I do notice a lot of service fraternities/sororities which I think is ideal.
Clubs and Activities As I mentioned above: If you're into sports, your head will spin with options. The Rec center has all kinds of stuff including rock-climbing, a pool, fitness classes, indoor track, etc. There are more student groups than I can count. And you can always get involved as an intern on the radio station, watch FREE movies in one of the campus theaters, be a part of plays, dance concerts, and other events... If you're bored at MTSU, it's your fault.
Great for these types of students Anyone who wants the value of a public university, a diverse student body, tons of resources with the feel of a smaller university.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The Library has a kind of courtyard in front of it where you will see people playing games, reading, practicing guitar/cello/singing, just hanging out, catching some fresh air... And it has a unique collection of sayings engraved in the pavement where brick bench areas offer plentiful seating. It's a really great space you might not expect.
Bang for the buck I feel like I get more than I pay for as far as tuition. The Library alone has everything you could ever need including a writing lab that connects you with a tutor one-on-one by online appt, usually that same day. I have NEVER waited to use a computer or a printer. Facilities range from hundred-year-old-buildings to brand new ones. It seems the campus is always updating something which I think is great.
What to do for fun Where do I start? If you're into sports, your head will spin with options.
Food and Dining There are a lot of options across campus at pretty reasonable prices. The Subway on campus is overpriced in my opinion. But other outside vendors offer everything from coffee to sushi is a fun environment. The dining hall (separate from the other commercial restaurants) is all you can eat with tons of healthy and usually tasty choices. The milk they serve is from cattle raised by the University's Agriculture program which I think is really cool.
Academic Rigor I only have one other reference for this category which was Nashville State Community College. I feel like the academic pressures here are only a little bit higher. It's a very doable standard for anyone willing to work and ask for help when they need it.
Tips for prospective students REGISTER EARLY! MTSU is a very popular school so classes can fill up quickly. Also, the summer semester is a great time to get ahead on your courses and get more personalized attention from teachers. It's a big campus, so be prepared to walk quite a bit.
In three sentences MTSU has a great vibe, lots of resources, helpful staff, and a varied student body. I was pleasantly surprised at how personalized everything feels considering how large the school is. As an adult completing my bachelor's after an 8 year break from school, I'm very happy I choose this school.

Greek Life I love being Greek I just wish more people wanted to! Its not like what you see in the movies. Its a group of people that share common goals, have fun, but for the most part we do stuff in the community and help with each others charities. We also put on fun things like step show, lip sync, homecoming, and so much more. They contribute so much to MTSU and could really use more people wanting to go Greek!

Great for these types of students Its great for anyone! They really do offer just about anything you can imagine and the community is so diverse.

What to do for fun There are numerous clubs and sports you can become involved in. They have intramural sports for just about everything and a recreation center with an indoor pool, track, rock wall, etc. The Greek community is a wise group to become involved in because you not only get to have fun but you help a numerous amount of charities between all the fraternities and sororities. There a also a handful of bars near campus, a river, pools, shops, and much more.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus Safety is great they are always on call and if you need an escort in the middle of the night they will do that for you.
Greek Life Greek life is cool. They host alot of different events and make themselves known.
Clubs and Activities There is a number of things to choose from. Student Government, Gospel Choir e.t.c.
What to do for fun The campus always holds different events on campus for people to get out and socialize. There are also parties if that is the sort of thing you are looking for.
Food and Dining At MTSU there are alot of options to choose from. There are two cafeterias on campus with a variety of foods for you to choose from. There wasn't a limit on how many times you could go in an eat with the freshman meal plan. In almost every building there were snack shops for you to get a snack whenever hungry. In one building there was a cafeteria with your everyday restaraunts such as Pizza Hut, Subway and Chick-fila.
Dorm Life Before going off to college the idea of living in a dorm was something I dreaded. After experiencing it at MTSU I encourage incoming freshman to do it. The dorms have 24 hour computer labs in them so you should never have an excuse as to why you don't complete an assignment. The living conditions were good and the Resident Assistants and Dorm Directors actually care and try to make things fun.
Academic Rigor It won't be as hard if you do not procrastinate. Whenever you run into trouble talk to your professor that is what they are there for. Overall the classes carry alot of work like most universities but you have to put in the effort.
Tips for prospective students Study hard and stay focused. Whenever you feel the pressure talk to a professor or an advisor they will be happy to help.
In three sentences Middle Tennessee is great fror academics as well as meeting new people. As an imcoming freshman you will not have to worry about making friends because people are friendly. MTSU is in a great location.

What to do for fun That is up to you! The REC (swimming, work out, rock-climb, yoga classes etc) Join clubs Go out and be social
Food and Dining If you aren't picky there are enough choices for you! But I do believe more food choices are being added this semester! Thank You MTSU
Dorm Life I lived in a dorm as a freshman, wasn't so bad, but I studied A LOT so I didn't get involved as much as I could have. It was nice to be convieniently located on campus, and have a meal plan (no cooking!)
Academic Rigor Depending on your major, it can be pretty easy to extremely difficult. I would say mine (biology) can be pretty tough, we have to take some extremely difficult classes ( and the tough teachers don't help!)
Tips for prospective students Get involved! Join clubs, study abroad, do as much as you can because every semester fly's by and four years is nothing!
In three sentences Middle is a great school: has many classes to choose from, a variety of knowledgeable professors in many different fields, huge opportunities- if you take them. Food and Dining The food is pretty good. Although it may be a bit overpriced.
Dorm Life I live off campus so I'm not 100% sure but I have friends that live on campus and most of the them don't like it.
Academic Rigor It all depends on the professor that you may have. Some may do extra credit and curve grades while others wont hesitate to fail you.
Tips for prospective students Don't get side tracked. Keep up with everyday material and make sure that you don't get behind in any class.

Clubs and Activities The Rec was awesome with activities and the school offered events just for the students, which was awesome.
Great for these types of students Go to the free events and sporting events if you don't have a job like I did.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus We loved hanging at Judd and in Cummings. We meet up at McCallies to eat and got where ever afterwards.
Bang for the buck There were some expensive things if you did not have a job, but there are events that are free.
What to do for fun I usually hung around the dorm unless we went out to a party. We always had fun.
Food and Dining The food at JUB was amazing. I love the cooks, they were so nice to my friends and I.
Dorm Life Besides the community bathroom it was nice meeting new friends and having sleepovers.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Social butterflies will thrive or die. That means that some will continue being themself but some will feel inferior of all that other social butterflies out there. Shy people have a place, musical...well it is easier to say that there is a place somewhere for everyone.
What to do for fun The new Student Union building, Stone River Mall, Fat Mo's, Study, Study, Study, Study, Study.....and Study.
Food and Dining It's good, but a cup of instant noodles and a capri sun is a whole lot cheaper.
Dorm Life I live off campus :( but I hear it is not too bad.
Tips for prospective students Live on Campus! I am not financially able to live on campus but I would give my right leg to be able to! MTSU offers many opportunities to be involved in the school and different aspects of campus life. Yes, MTSU is known for their partying but if you play your cards right that wont be a problem you will have. Simply ask yourself, How will what I am doing look on my resume? That question will make you think twice before going to the biggest Frat party MTSU has to offer.
In three sentences MTSU faculty genuinely cares for students. Operators and department administration do not try to get the phone call over with when you have a question or concern. MTSU continues to make improvements in each department in the physical and academic aspect.

For weather alerts or other dangerous events, you'll be sent text message or emails about them instantly. If you're afraid of walking at night, they have campus officers to help escort your to your desired designation.
Clubs and Activities Not only does MTSU have organizations in relation to your major or to better your leadership, but they have many for your personal interest, such as dance, collecting things, or exercising. You also have the chance to make up one yourself as long as it not harmful in any way and going through a little process.
Food and Dining The quality of food here is NO disappointment. They have a variety fast food restaraunts, even for the people who love to eat healthy. The cafe is great. No typical grade school food and good dessert.
Dorm Life Dorm life is awesome and comes with responsibility. You know you have to keep the area clean. We have hall meetings to attend in all seriousness. Each Dorm Hall has their own activities! We have movie nights, free pancake days, game days, stuff to keep us going and break from the school work.
Academic Rigor This school is fine in the Academic rigor and are a great support. This is college. We're adults now. We are responsible for doing and keeping up with our work. They have FREE TUTORING for every subject! What's better than that?!

Categories Comments Campus Safety Safety is very important and should be at the top of your list for any college. I feel very safe at MTSU.
What to do for fun If you like to work out, swim, or climb the walls, you will have to come check out the Rec Center. Plenty to do to keep you active. If you're the bookworm kind, the new library will be heaven for you. If you're like me and love sports, you will have a free pass (MTSU ID) to the football games anytime.
Food and Dining Oh, lots on campus to choose from... Starbucks, Subway, grills and tons of great food. You will have to watch the waistline because there really isn't anything bad in any location.
Dorm Life MTSU has several styles of dorms so there is something for everyone. Take a tour and see first hand just what is here. I did and I am so glad that I was able to pick out the dorm that was a great fit for me!

Categories Comments Campus Safety There is great security and efforts are made to keep students aware of what going on around campus and encourage safety.
Greek Life Not involved.
Clubs and Activities To busy studying right now. But, I do participate in a joint learning venture with a local after school program, a service learning project between MTSU and Patterson Park. This program is a goals oriented program for young students to make Right Choices.
Great for these types of students The college is great for all students. The services available help traditional students, as well as non-traditional students, like my self. I've been out of school over 35 years, and with assistance from advisors and information on the website, a lot of my questions and concerns are answered promptly and are understandable.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus First year, still new at this.
Bang for the buck The university offers degrees in just about any field of interest.
What to do for fun I enjoy reading mostly. I also enjoy helping in the community.
Food and Dining There are plenty of available places to get food and relax between classes.
Dorm Life I don't stay on campus, but all the people that do say it's a good system.
Academic Rigor The school has excellent staff and are willing to help accomplish your goals of making the best grades possible, by providing guidance in retaining learned information for each class.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck It is actually a really cheap school. With me I live in the dorms and pay instate tuition and after my couple scholarships i only payed 3,100 out of pocket and 4,500 in scholarships. So all-in-all my tuition was only about 7,600. So for a cheap school you get a great education.
What to do for fun During the week there is always something to do like going to the REC center and hanging out at the student union with the movie theater but on the weekends there really is nothing to do because most everyone who comes here lives close by so they go home for the weekend. But the best part is probably the sporting events because students get in free as long as they have their ID and you get to hang out with your firends.
Food and Dining The food is good but it gets repetitive especially if you have a meal plan because all the other places on campus close early.
Dorm Life I've made some great friends and I have a feeling these friendships are going to last. I don't know what I would do with out the friends I've made.
Academic Rigor The professors are willing to work with you and help you out no matter what. Its hard but at the same time it is so easy because there is always help around no matter what.
Tips for prospective students Don't be afraid to ask for help. It is everywhere you look. Living in the dorms has been a wonderful choice just cause I've made some solid friendships in the last month alone.
In three sentences The school is hard working. It has a fun atmosphere. Its a great place to meet amazing people and build some of the best friendships.

Categories Comments Campus Safety In general i really feel safe on campus always when i drive or walk i see police patrolling the school and that really makes me feel safe on campus. Also there have been several occasions of robbery so to be on the safe side have all your money on your debit card and if you are scared to walk to your car, dorm or anywhere on campus the police can send an escort so you will get where you need safely
What to do for fun Well Murfreesboro is a small town and the only places to go out for night life is at the square which have bars and most of them put only country music. If you want to have fun on campus join an organization that is active on campus. You will make new friends this way and have fun at the same time.
Food and Dining Food dining is average mostly junk food which I dont like because the school charges more money and there is no alternative place to eat something healthy. At McCallies its a buffet style so its all you can eat but you really get tired of the food because its the same most of the time.
Dorm Life Dorm life is pretty good you meet new people there since you will always interact with the same people and there is always something going on there like an activity at the main floor which is a way to meet new friends.
Academic Rigor Depending what classes you take it really isnt that difficult as long as you attend class, do your homework and study you will do fine in your classes. But some classes require you to study more than others because material could be difficult to understand.
Tips for prospective students Advice I would give to new students attending MTSU is to make friends in all your classes. This actually helped me in my first year because i was failing exams but i studied with friends and got an A in the class. Also ask as many questions as you can better to ask a lot then not at all.
In three sentences MTSU is very diverse a lot of students here and if you are social you will make a lot of friends here. Also parking is really a pain at MTSU if you get here early you will find parking spots. Also most students on campus are friendly if you engage in conversation that is how i met a lot of people but sometimes its intimidating.

Dorm Life We never go to sleep in the dorms. It is a constant study/ party session.
Academic Rigor The teachers expect a lot from you, but it gets easier the more you pay attention in class.

The campus also has a raider escort service so that students out late can call and get escorted to their car anytime they feel they need it. The campus is very safe and all problems are quickly taken care of properly.
Greek Life There is a strong greek life on campus. Many people are in sororities or fraternities. All those involved say they love the companionship and encourage anyone to join.
Clubs and Activities There are over 100 clubs and activities on campus. There is sure to be a club for everyone to enjoy. It's also fairly easy to start a new club if desired.
Great for these types of students MTSU is great for any student who likes being involved but also has a desire to learn. They have great programs for most majors and are constantly expanding their study programs. They also have a great study abroad program for students interested in that.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The campus has a lucky horseshoe that is said to help people before exams. There's also a spot on campus where you stand in the center of a half oval area and when you talk into it your voice is projected and only you can hear the projection.
Bang for the buck The shows and games on campus are free for students. The movies and bowling alleys give student discounts so they become cheap activities for students.
What to do for fun There's always something to do around campus such as a movie being shown, a play, or a comedian visiting. There's also the student union building which has a game room in it. The recreational center also has a workout room, different types of courts, and a pool.
Food and Dining There's a wide variety of dining to choose from on and around campus. Anyone can find something they like. The food also won't break your budget.
Dorm Life The dorms look nice and students in dorms are usually more involved with the school. The dorms also have fun activities for residents to do and lounges for students to hang out in. Many dorms also have meetings to help students with issues going on.
Academic Rigor The academic rigor is challenging, just enough to make sure students learn and gain knowledge. It is not unbearable though, it doesn't take away all of your time. You will be sure to learn what you need.
Tips for prospective students Students should make sure to study for their exams ahead of time and not cram. Be sure to attend your classes so you don't miss important points that may be on exams. They should also be sure to stay involved in activities around the school.
In three sentences Middle Tennessee State University is a great school. They always have something for students to do and keep students involved. They have courses that appeal to all students and open the minds of students.

What to do for fun It is a college town, there are plenty of places open late and plenty of fun to be had. I love taking my dogs on the greenway.
Food and Dining If you don't want cafeteria food, there are plenty of restaurants close by.
Dorm Life I do not live in the dorms so I do not have apersonal opinion, but I'd prefer to live in my own place.
Academic Rigor Depends on the class and particular teacher.
Tips for prospective students Parking is awful, bring a bike or walk. Wear boots when it rains Campus is always under construction.
In three sentences MTSU is seems to have a lot of teachers willing to help. All the advisors seem to want to help and see you succeed. Although, Not many night class options for what I was seeking in science.

Great for these types of students Students that love getting involved!
Bang for the buck Since the Freshman dorms are super noisy I feel like I overpaid. But there's a free laundry room, a kitchen (no pots or pans), and a handicapped bathroom on both sides of the hall.
What to do for fun For fun there's a site called MyMt with all the activities for the entire campus listed in one place. There's always something to do. Even on Fall break when everyone (including me) went home, there was still something for people to do.
Food and Dining The Blue Raider Grill is the best. The burgers are super tall and I always get the fries without the batter because with the batter they look disgusting. Flexbucks go fast so if you want the most out of them I'd go with the 5 day open access instead of the 7 day.
Dorm Life The Freshman dorms suck because of all the people from Memphis being super loud at 3AM. If you have class at 8AM make sure you live in a quiet place like Womack apartments or Smith or maybe Gracy Halls.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you have a meal plan or you'll be spending alot of time in the library with a grumbling stomach. Get all the maps you can. Make sure you know how to work D2L, Pipeline, MTSU mail, and MyMt.
In three sentences The professors are helpful. The students are great with directions even at night. And the food is pretty good except for McCallie and everyone here calls it McNasty.

Categories Comments Campus Safety MTSU has its own police system with its own number to call. The officers are not rent a cop either. They are actual police officers designated to our campus.
Greek Life The greek life at MTSU is expanding. Everyone is excepted into the organizations and they are held at a higher standard than most other organizations.
Clubs and Activities MTSU offers clubs and activities for everyone! The organizations are always looking for new people to get involved.
Great for these types of students MTSU is great for students looking for diversity. Also, disabled and handicapped students have advantage here because MTSU's campus is a flat terrain.
Bang for the buck The academics are decent if you apply yourself. The Athletics are getting better. MTSU is the cheapest university in TN, but the campus is extraordinary.
What to do for fun For fun you can hang out in the in the Student Union Building or the KUC with friends. MTSU also offers lots of organizations for students to get involved.
Food and Dining There are plenty of options at the KUC or the new Student Union Building. These buildings offer outside vendors that I would normally go to not on campus such as Chick-Fil-A.
Dorm Life I don't personally live in a dorm but my best friend and fellow cheerleaders do. They seem to enjoy it and the dorms I have been in seem to be fairly modern looking.
Academic Rigor You can get by at MTSU. The academic rigor truly depends on the classes and professors you take. If you want a challenge, take the classes other students say are hard or uncomprehensible.
Tips for prospective students Become best friends with James E. Walker library. Don't wait until the last minute to study for tests. Always, always, ALWAYS do extra credit if a professor provides it, because professors DON'T provide it.
In three sentences The hardness of the class depends on the teacher. Diversity is everywhere on campus. Middle is great for opportunities and getting involved.

Categories Comments Campus Safety your safety is the main concern of the campus police
Greek Life the Greeks pride themselves on brotherhood and sisterhood and working with one another. they have a good time.
Clubs and Activities there are about 250 different clubs and activities for every type of student and you can make your on club if you have a teacher and five other students with you.
Great for these types of students if you're an active person and like to work out the recreation center is a great place for you.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus the grove is pretty cool to sit outside and eat.
Bang for the buck pay and go
What to do for fun go to a sports event, party or student union
Food and Dining if you like pizza the dining hall is always serving fresh and hot pizza and we have a Dunkin' Donuts on campus and plenty of places that serve coffee.
Dorm Life living on campus is cool you get to be on your own but you have to share a bathroom with about 20 other people.
Academic Rigor an c- means you fail the course and have to take the course again
Tips for prospective students always show up for class and don't party to much but have fun
In three sentences over all as a freshman i enjoy Middle Tennessee State University's relaxed environment and small campus fill even though its a big campus. i rate middle Tennessee state university as a 8

Categories Comments Campus Safety They have their own police force and I've seen multiple cars patrolling nearly every time i've been there.
Greek Life not involved or planning to be involved.
Clubs and Activities I was told that they have clubs for nearly everything, including a My Little Pony club.
Great for these types of students Music, Aerospace, Undeclared, Nursing
Bang for the buck if you don't live in the area housing and sustainment of life is pretty expensive but tuition is fairly cheap!
What to do for fun Sporting events are free for students as well as multiple other social events that are little to no cost to students.
Food and Dining Pretty expensive if you don't have a meal plan. It has fast food and quick stop places through out the campus; very convenient if you have the cash.
Dorm Life I've only visited one dorm building on campus and they are not that great. Multiple of my other friends have suggested that if possible that I find housing off of campus. It is a culture shock if you are from a small non-diverse community.
Academic Rigor I hear that it's both challenging but rewarding. So.. fingers crossed!
Tips for prospective students do your research! don't make a decision based on your peers! do what's going to put you in a better position in your future.
In three sentences The environment seems very positive and the people i've met are super friendly and ready to answer any questions you have.

Categories Comments What to do for fun If you're a fan of sports, there's always some kind of sport going on. On football game days, the campus goes wild. Especially on homecoming, people get crazy. Don't go to football games by yourself, and be careful the company you keep. Even though MTSU is a tobacco and alcohol free campus it's not hard to find alcohol and a party if you want it. There are lots of Halloween parties that don't have alcohol, and they're really fun.
Food and Dining The food at the dining halls is awful. Some days it's edible, some days it's not. As a freshman, it's required that you have a meal plan. The plan gives you unlimited access to all the dining halls, which are buffet style. Both halls are catered by Aramark, so the food is very similar. There are places besides the dining halls to eat, but if you're on a budget you'll find eating at those places almost impossible. The prices are a little higher than regular fast-food places.
Dorm Life Life on campus can be really good if you make it. Most dorms have fliers everywhere, telling what things you can do and when. Be sure to check out which dorm you're going to be living in. DON'T apply last minute, and just let the housing department place you somewhere. There are some dorms on campus that aren't good places to live, and some that are scary to walk to alone at night. The Honors dorm is nice, clean, with enough space in the rooms. However, it's far from places like the New Student Union and a lot of the classes. Always make sure to lock your room no matter what dorm you're in.
Academic Rigor Classes very from really easy to really hard. It depends on your teacher, the type of class, etc. Honors courses require a lot of work, which may be hard to manage if you have to work/raise children/etc. I would recommend not starting your first semester with more than one Honors class.
Tips for prospective students The classes are good, but beware taking too many honors classes as a Freshman. The class load is immense. There will be a lot of homework, mostly reading and taking notes on large chapters. Don't buy your books before the first day of class, because your teachers may change the book or you'll find that you never use it and the book is just for reference. Visit the dorms before you choose one. There are really good dorms and really bad ones. If you're going to live in an apartment off campus, beware: many apartment complexes close to campus are unsafe.
In three sentences Middle Tennessee is a good school overall. However, it is pretty secluded and so it's hard to get around the city without a car. The classes are pretty small for such a big college.

Categories Comments Campus Safety We have student patrol who walks the campus day and night. We also have campus police who will come in an instant if called for an emergency, or just to make someone feel secure while walking to their living area or other destination.
Greek Life The Greeks host many activities and are always involved around campus.
Clubs and Activities Currently not in any, but they are always sending emails and trying to recruit people to join them. I am looking towards joining at least two organizations. They have much to offer and could help with community service hours or volunteer work.
What to do for fun There are always activities going on around campus. Football games, basketball games, step shows, talent shows. The Student Union plays movies every week. It also has a Game Room where you can play pool and hang out with friends. Every football game has a tailgate before game time where you can get free items. Tucker Theater holds plays and dance recitals. There are other things to do. You just have to choose to be involved.
Food and Dining There are different places you can choose from to eat. McCallie and the James Union Building are dine ins, while the Student Union and KUC are places for fast food such as Pop Eyes, Panda Express, Pizza Hut, and Chick Fil A. The Cyber Cafe holds snacks and Subway. The best place to go if you encounter late night hunger.
Dorm Life Most of the dorms are fit for living, but choose the place you would feel most comfortable. If you like to be alone at all times and love having personal space, dorms are not for you, apartments would suit you well.
Tips for prospective students Bring all items that would benefit you in college. Never try to fit in with people. Be yourself and don't be so quick to choose friends. Stay focused and finish work ahead of time.
In three sentences Middle Tennessee State University is a great learning environment. The diversity gives great learning experience and there are always activities to do. The professors are wonderful and put forth their best effort to make sure everyone succeeds.

Categories Comments Campus Safety MTSU is very good about keeping students informed of any incident on campus. Unfortunately, there are too many of these emails being sent. Always walk with someone at night and stay in well lit areas. There are alarm buttons all over campus you can run to in an emergency. Safety isn't horrible but it happens.
Great for these types of students Music and arts. Nursing. Livestock sciences. Recording and music industry.
What to do for fun There are plenty of activities on campus to get involved in from poetry nights, free movies at the Student Union Center, and bowling. If you're of age you can go to some of the bars across the street and see some live music.
Food and Dining There are multiple places to grab snacks or meals on campus. They have chick-fil-a, pizza hut, and a recently added Dunkin Donuts (my favorite). However, don't always expect friendly service from the employees.
Dorm Life Do not take my rating of dorm life seriously. I never stayed in them but from what I hear they are pretty decent.
Academic Rigor The strongest feature of MTSU is it's academic programs and professors. My one and only instance where I had a teacher who's performance was less than satisfactory was quickly resolved by the administration and tuition and fees for the class were immediately refunded by the provost.
Tips for prospective students My biggest regret was not buying a bicycle and using it to avoid parking issues. Also all students should purchase good rain gear (especially boots). MTSU has very poor drainage on rainy days and you will be walking through many ponds in parking lots and sidewalks.
In three sentences MTSU has some of the most dedicated and highly professional instructors of any school. It is also one of the fastest growing colleges which is beneficial to the student academics. The one draw back to this growth is the lack of parking and constant redirection of traffic due to unending construction.

Greek Life Not apart of it.
Clubs and Activities The Society, B.R.O.S.I.S, and digital animation club.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The Cyber Cafe has an unusual smell.
Bang for the buck It is an animation club that I am apart of now, also I mentor younger students in an up-coming program.
What to do for fun I just hang out with friends, I am the Area Rep. of my area and exercise and play sports.
Food and Dining Food and dining is good depending on where you go to eat.
Dorm Life Dorm Life is alright I live in a dorm without a general lobby, so I am not at my dorm much.
Academic Rigor I have to always make sure I study and do any extra credit assignments my professors may assign.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you pick the right meal plan because it could be a waste of money.

Categories Comments Campus Safety MTSU has there own police department with cops constantly patrolling and very accessible if you needed help.
Greek Life Very large on campus and lots of students are involved. They are always doing things on campus.
Clubs and Activities Hundreds of different clubs and organization possibilities. There is literally something for everyone!
Bang for the buck There is so many benefits from going to school here including the free clinic and pharmacy located on campus. Everything is beautiful and well kept. Plus, there is an abundant amount of opportunities that the campus provides besides just studying and academics.
What to do for fun Movies, game room, recreational center, there is never an excuse for being bored!!
Food and Dining Soooo many different food possibilities on campus. There is always good food to have whether its from one of the cafeterias, there's two, or a fast food place.
Dorm Life Dorms of course are small but still new and provide a reasonable living area.
Academic Rigor The majority of the courses do push you to new heights. Every course so far as taught me very valuable information that I can apply to my life. They prepare you for the outside world and wheat to expect in your future career.
In three sentences Overall very gets school. The campus is beautiful and renovated meaning nothing looks old on campus. Lots of new things and stuff to do all the time including the movie theatre on campus!!

Categories Comments Campus Safety There is a fully accredited police department that patrol campus 24/7 365 days a year and are very visible and are there to keep campus safe.
Clubs and Activities Over 250 student organizations, lots to choose from.
Great for these types of students Aerospace and mass communications students.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The seal in the courtyard in front of the Library, BAS, and Mass Comm building will grant you seven years of college if you step on it. Also, the Blue Horseshoe in Welcome Grove in front of Peck Hall grants you good luck if you touch it.
What to do for fun I am in the Band of Blue!!!!!!!
Food and Dining The food isn't really the the quality of what you would expect for what you pay for. You pay a lot for cheaply made food. As well as on weekends, if you want to go to the on campus dining facilities, be prepared to have even lower standards because the food is prepared even worse on weekends.
Dorm Life Dorm life is, well it's dorm life. The only real downside to dorm life is that sometimes there are people in your dorm building can be super loud and obnoxious and can get annoying because of that. Another downside is that you aren't allowed to stay in on campus housing during winter break, which in my opinion is terrible.
Academic Rigor So far, I haven't had too much trouble with keeping up with my academics and they haven't been too terribly difficult, as one would expect. If you manage your time well and do not wait until the last minute to do projects, it will make it much easier to handle.
Tips for prospective students I would recommend students take required general education classes before they dive into many of their major classes, that way if they decide to change their major, the classes they have already taken will not have been for nothing.
In three sentences MTSU has so many opportunities for students to get involved and everyone can find something that fits them! The campus is beautiful and even though its large, has a small campus feel to it. We have the biggest student population in Tennessee, which all contribute to helping MTSU become the best school in the state, as well as being True Blue

Categories Comments Campus Safety Very safe- as a single mom being in her mid 20's i feel very safe and protected by campus security.
Clubs and Activities galore
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The black-out football game is amazing.
Bang for the buck Pizza joint right down the road from campus is as old as my grandmother but AMAZING. Huge pizza real cheap= happy college students.
What to do for fun There are plenty of places to find yourself having fun in Murfreesboro. The square has night life adventures for college students (only 2 blocks away). There are hiking trails galore and kaykaing places all over. If you are an outdoors person you will love this place. Also they have many organizations that plan events and plug you into any extra activites you may enjoy.
Food and Dining The food is college food but good. They offer over 3 different dinning locations on campus. Krispy Cream, Chinese. pizza, sushi, grill, homemade food, and the cafeteria which is cheaper.
Dorm Life I have not spent time in the dorms but overall the students feed back is positive as long as you are picking with dorm life. Choose wisely and plan ahead like anything to have the best dorm life.
Academic Rigor You choose your major which also chooses your academic rigor. The biology department is phenomenal and yes you will be stuck in a book for years. The labs and instructors are very helpful and knowledgeable.
Tips for prospective students Be sure to meet with an advisor and continue meeting with that same advisor asking all your detailed questions until you graduate from MTSU. If you get set on the right track and stay focused (having advisers to help steer you) you will do great!
In three sentences Middle Tennessee State University has been a great place to begin again as a transfer student who had been out of college for several years. The degrees offered here are excellent as well as the overall health of campus. I love MTSU!

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus police is always readily available, and MTSU sends out alerts 24/7 on the security of campus.
Greek Life Not involved, but it is extremely active. Large amount of organizations for students to join.
Clubs and Activities Everything, and if it's not here, you'll be able to talk someone into sponsoring it.
Great for these types of students Relaxed and open-minded students are over abundant on campus, everyone relates and talks to one another, not a stereotypical cliquey type school. However, there is still an extremely strong Greek life on campus.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is a shop on main street call The Center of the Universe, and it is said should a student ever shop there they will never leave Murfreesboro. Also, the blue horse between Peck Hall and the Cope Administration building is said to bring luck to all students who touch it.
What to do for fun Not only are there a lot of activities available on campus, like in the new Student Union Building, but the town of Murfreesboro is designed for the college student. Local shops, bars, and restaurants cater to the college student.
Tips for prospective students Because everyone is so laid back, remember it is still college, so do your work. Teachers are understanding, but they can still fail you.
In three sentences Extremely easy going university, but punctual. Most professors are extremely open-minded and understanding. Classroom environment is relaxed.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Well MTSU has their own police, but crime does unfortunately happen on campus, some of the campus is darker than other sides, but I think they will add some street lights soon.
Greek Life From what I heard Greek life is awesome! I think the most unique thing about the ones here, is that they all have a MANDATORY study session.
Bang for the buck MTSU is so worth the price of tuition! A huge library with a starbucks inside of it, a HUGE Rec center with plenty to do, and brand new student union building!
What to do for fun MTSU offers plenty of things to do. We have the new Student Union building that has 4 pool tables and 4 ping pong tables. We also have a rec center! It offers a gym, a rock wall, indoor track, and 6 basketball courts.
Food and Dining There are plenty of places to eat at Middle Tennessee. Now the one most visited by students is probably McCallie's they serve some bomb pizza! I will say though, their breakfast isn't all that great, and if you live on campus they offer great meal plans
Dorm Life I honestly cant give my honest opinion on dorm life because I live off campus at my own apartment. Now there are tons of off campus apartments that offer great affordable rates to students.
Academic Rigor I took 15 hours my first semester here, I was able to keep up with the work for the most part, but if you know you cant really balance all that work try 12 hours first.
Tips for prospective students 1. Meet as many new people as possible! It's college you will need them! 2. I would not recommend 8 O'clock classes unless you are a morning person. 3. Remember that some science classes require a lab, which makes this a 4 credit hour class.
In three sentences Middle Tennessee State University offers a humble and affordable education. MT offers the same feeling as the bigger universities do, but only half the price. Meeting new people at MTSU is easy because so many people are open and outgoing, so there is a friend for everyone.

Food and Dining The food on campus is very amazing! There are so many options of food is absolutely great.
Dorm Life Dorm life is kind of hard on you. Coming from a small town it was harder than I expected.
Academic Rigor Learning new things has it's challenges but that's the process of learning new things.
Tips for prospective students Don't start with a closed mind. Go in and except that anything is possible if you open your heart.
In three sentences Middle Tennessee State University is a great school, lovely campus, and has really great people. This university has it's ups and downs but at the end of the don't they all. There is no perfect college but I will rate this one with a 9 out of 10.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Several robberies have occurred around campus, but I see campus police and emergency phones frequently. Danger is everywhere, so one can't complain.
Bang for the buck Pretty good. School is expensive, period. But MTSU offers a pretty good bang for the buck. I just wish the Expenses Fee (about $700) was not so high...I don't use things on campus that much.
What to do for fun There is something for everybody...athletics, Greek life, private parties, theater productions, etc.
Food and Dining McCalley's is the best! And now, the new student union building offers Panda Express and Popeyes. There is a lot to pick from.
Dorm Life I never lived in the dorm, but there are many dorms and nearby college apartments!
Academic Rigor Depending on your major, the academic rigor will vary. As an education major, there is a lot of work to do. It is not difficult material to learn, but the amount of work (traveling to schools, projects, lesson plans, etc.) is a lot. As a pre-professional (medical) major, there is less work, but the content is much more difficult to learn. It really just depends on your career choice.
Tips for prospective students Manage your time wisely! At MTSU, you never know when traffic will be bad, parking lots will be full, internet will be down, or how long the line is at the financial aid office. Make sure you are planning everything accordingly and allowing yourself time to maneuver around unexpected obstacles.
In three sentences Middle Tennessee State University is a large school that is very school-spirited. There is a place to fit in, no matter who you are or where you come from. MTSU offers great academic opportunities that create paths into many career fields.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Shootings Stabbings, bomb threats, thats what happens when you make the standards so low to get into the school Mr Mcfee
Greek Life Absolutely, Great way to get involved and will do amazing things for your time in college and getting you set up for a career afterwards. It's key if you want any kind of networking skills. Also, anybody who is anybody is Greek.
Clubs and Activities Whiskey Dix all the way. Thirsty Thursdays Free bottles till 11 and free Draft all night.
Great for these types of students Hard working self supporting.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Don't walk across the crest in the middle area between the library and the BAS. It's bad luck and means you will not graduate. Oh, also try and take Tuesday Thursday classes. Its great not having classes on Monday and Friday!
Bang for the buck Parking is the only that is terrible, hopefully the new parking garages will fix this.
What to do for fun Whiskey Dix is a local Club/Bar that is 18 and up and everyone goes there Thursday, Friday and Saturday Night.
Food and Dining One Word, Mccallies.
Dorm Life Terrible don't do it. But I'll be closer to class and not have to leave. Incorrect you will just be more likely to go to your room and take a nap and miss class. You say that that isnt you and you would never do it, but so did I and it happened to me. Live at Aspen Heights instead. Its the best place off campus, Just ask anyone.
Academic Rigor Depending on how many hours you take, it can be stressful, but hey. Welcome to college!!
Tips for prospective students Treat school like a job. From 9-5 only worry about going to class, doing homework, and studying notes. After that do what you want, just try to keep the social life at bay until at least thursday night.
In three sentences Amazing School, especially since I am in the Aerospace program here. This program is the most advanced in the world and it is know/recognized as such. This school and program has changed my life and is getting me ready for a career that I am extremely passionate about.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Our campus is very safe and if needed you can always call Raider Patrol which will escort you day or night. Or a program we have called Guardian Angel which has all your personal information to the on-campus police officers. And Raider alert which will send you an e-mail, phone call, and text message to your phone if there are any alerts you need to be aware about on or around the university or Murfreesboro.
Greek Life Although I am not apart of Greek life they are very prominent on campus. The individual colleges also have their own personal Greek organizations that you can join.
Clubs and Activities Freshmen council with SGA (Student Government Assosication) and Women in Action
Great for these types of students In-state Tennessee students, RIM (recording industry majors), teachers, business majors, concrete management, aerospace, or mass communications. Also, we are a very diverse school that is very passionate about the education of other ethnicities.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Don't cross the university seal in the middle of the BAS and Walker library if you cross through it you will not graduate in 4 years. Also, there is a metal structure across from Peck Hall do not climb, cross, or walk through it or you will not graduate at all. Take a picture on the true blue horseshoe that will never fade on Raider zone your freshmen and graduating year.
Bang for the buck Although college is very expensive and I have to pay some expenses out of pocket the experience at MTSU is something that I would never change.
What to do for fun Hanging out with my friends, going to both Walmarts, shopping there is a mall about 2.5 miles from the university, going to many restaurants, Nashville and Lebanon outlet mall are both 30-45 minutes away, and community service.
Food and Dining McCallie and the JUB are very good. We also have the P.O.Ds located all around campus. The KUC and new Student Union Building also have a variety of fast food restaurants.
Dorm Life I live in Deere Hall which I love because it is a gated community and located in the back of the Walker Library. Our dorms are very safe and we also have on-campus apartments called Scarlet and Womack
Academic Rigor We are highly known for a great graduation rate for undergrad.
Tips for prospective students Constantly meet with your college advisor and professors if you ever need anything don't be afraid to ask that's what they are there for.

Food and Dining The food in the dining halls are awesome. Breakfast is usually my choice on campus and they make super good omelets. They always have a variety of things for students to choose from which is nice because not everyone likes the same things.
Dorm Life I am a freshman and live in an apartment and never lived on campus. I think it was my biggest mistake not to live on campus as a freshman though. If I could go back and change anything it would be that i would have lived on campus.
Academic Rigor The work is not that difficult. Just have to make sure you keep up with the due dates. The online work is pretty simple and the teachers will be there to help students figure it out if you don't understand it.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus is unsafe, last year two guys tried to shoot each other in the middle of the day on campus, and we also lost a great female basketball player due to room mate on room mate violence! Police department is right out of the old keystone cop movies!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The library is like a make shift dorm, with students sleeping on all the available seating areas!

Food and Dining Great food and dining both on and off campus.
Dorm Life Get an apartment in town! Stay out of the dorms altogether, they are filled with lowlife wannabe thugs!
Academic Rigor Most professors are in tune with their students and work with them to achieve their goals, while others just treat you like a number!
Tips for prospective students If you are a young adult looking for a good education, you may find it here! Be sure to have your ducks in a row math wise, since they seem to keep students in a never ending loop of taking math 1100 semester after semester and ultimately ends in failure!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is a walk way called The Raider Walk that is one significant location on campus! During tailgating people set up tents and stuff on the raider walk and the courtyard outside my dorm.
Bang for the buck In this case you don't get what you pay for! The pay is low and it is a really good education.
What to do for fun The games are fun and joining a intramural sport is a way to have some fun! Also a sorority or fraternity are something you could do for fun! There are a lot of clubs and activities on campus always going on.
Food and Dining On Campus food is pretty good! There are two places to eat that have things like chick fil a and subway and then there are two cafeterias that are pretty good for campus food! I would recommend a food plan because it makes it easy to grab something to eat between classes.
Dorm Life Dorm life at MTSU is great! It makes it much easier to make friends and get involved on campus activities. It over all enhances your learning abilities as well.
Academic Rigor Classes are not hard but you have to study in order to pass the class! They are not easy without putting in the effort. The level of toughness is expected from college level classes.
Tips for prospective students Live on campus your first year so you can get familiar with the campus and make new friends easier. Attend extracurricular activities and join intramural sports!

Dorm Life Non traditional student. Never lived in a dorm at MTSU
Tips for prospective students Be proactive in involving yourself within the University. There are a lot of resources available, but it is easy to get lost in the crowd at such a large university.
In three sentences Large state university undergoing major campus renovations. Generally friendly student body and large amount of non traditional and commuting students add the electiveness of the student population. University is located in the small city of Murfreesboro, but a short 45 commute to Nashville makes it ideal for students looking to cash in on some larger city amenities.

What to do for fun There are always parties going on and there 2 malls here with plenty of places to dine. Nashville is also only 30 minutes away.
Food and Dining Ive only eaten at school a couple times. Both of which were very positive and delicious. I've seen plenty of other students frequently eating there so i assume it's all pretty good.
Dorm Life I live off campus so i don't know much about dorm life.
Academic Rigor There aren't really any academic problems. Just make sure you do your work and study.
Tips for prospective students Parking is a small issue so try to live within walking distance. Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety is very legit. You will always see a campus police riding around campus making sure our campus is safe. They'll give the number to call if you need anything. If you need to walk somewhere late night, call the campus police, and they will be happy to escort you.
Clubs and Activities There are many clubs, and extra activities to join on campus. You have intramural sports, a plethora of clubs, and volunteer services. There are also many job opportunities available on campus because being a college student is not always easy.
What to do for fun There is so much to do around campus, so being bored is not a option. You can attend games, parties, or even join the campus clubs. Most of the big events around campus will be emailed to you so you should never miss the events. Games are always fun to go to especially Football games. Tailgating is the best part because that is the time where you can meet new people, and they also Have free food. The parties are fun to attend, just don't make partying a habit because it can get addictive.
Food and Dining We have a plethora of food and dining places on campus, so you should never be hungry. Depending on what type of meal plan you apply for, you should be okay. Be careful with the unlimited meal plan because the freshman 15 is not hard to gain, and you will be wondering how you gained all the weight. McCallies is one of the dining places I would not recommend because most of the time the food is gross. It is a great place to meet friends but food wise, do not go there. We also have subway, Popeye's, Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks, and many more places to eat, you don't want to miss out.
Dorm Life Living in dorms can be fun, but at the same time it can be pretty hectic. Sharing bathrooms and room can sometimes be frustrating because sometimes you're in need if your own privacy. Besides the privacy, meeting new friends are priceless. We have bonding time on our floors, and that's the time where you can meet new people, and see what you guys have in common. There are choices of co-Ed dorms in regular dorms, but I chose co-Ed because it was much nicer, and you can meet different races verses one race at a time. Your RA's (Resident Assistants) are very nice, and will be there for you if you need anything. We also have free tutoring in the first floor of our dorm, and that is very helpful because you are getting help from other students that you know.
Academic Rigor Books come before anything so just get your work done. Failing at Middle Tennessee is not a option because there is so much help around. Free tutors everywhere, many places to do your work, and take advantage of your teachers office hours. Make sure you make it to class on time and sit in the front so your teacher knows that you are serious about the class, and in the end when you need the extra point, they may give it to you for the effort. Don't do enough just to get by, do more than enough and give yourself that extra push.
Tips for prospective students Coming into college, I thought it would be a breeze, but I had to learn to quickly that I had to stay focused. You have to learn how to balance out your school work, and your social life. Getting used to the college life can be a struggle because you don't have your parents there everyd.ay on your back nagging about everything; you are on your own. I would advice incoming students to study all you can because failing is never option. Depending on your classes, you should always have enough time to study, and when you have your studying complete, then you can hang out, party, and all the other fun events. Easiest way to make it is if you prioritize your class time, and your free time.
In three sentences I am currently a freshman going into my second semester at Middle Tennessee, and by far it has been the best thing I have experienced. On the scale of 1-10 I would defiantly rate the school a 9.3. It's diverse, it has a beautiful campus, and 25,000+ Students, so finding friends should not be a problem.

Categories Comments Campus Safety This campus is very safe. They have a number to call if you don't want to walk alone at night. Police officers are on campus at all times. You can get your items secured by the police. Bikes never get stolen while parked and locked outside of the dorms.
What to do for fun There are a ton of things to do for fun on campus. For Examples, there are sporting events to go to, there is a game room, and there is also a Rec on campus. The Rec has basketball, volleyball, soccer, swimming, and a indoor track as well. For all those people who played sports in high school but didn't want to do it in college there are Intramural sports on campus. What happens is you get to play on teams with fellow friends and face off against other MTSU students.
Food and Dining The food is great. There are two actually restaurants on campus. Plus there are many other types of fast food places to eat at like Chick Fl La, Panda Express, Subway, and more. If you need a pick up in the morning or need to stay awake to study for a test there is a Starbucks on campus as well.
Dorm Life Dorm life is not terrible. It all depends on the type of roommate you have. If you know someone going to this school room with them. Also if the roommate you have isn't the best then set up rules for the room. Just make sure to be friends with your roommate because you are with them for a whole school year and they could turn out to be your best friend at the college.
Academic Rigor The education is not massively difficult but if you don't keep up with your studies or work it can feel difficult. The great thing is that the teachers want you to succeed. That means that if you need help ask them or go to any of the tutoring centers around campus.
Tips for prospective students Make sure to keep grades up in high school. Then when you make it into college keep those grades up and college life will be exciting. Most important get involved with campus life. That can be going to games, doing some kind of sport, or joining the best best band in the nation The Band of Blue! Whatever you do make sure to get involved.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety is okay. You just need to be conscious of where you are at what time. The school police provide an escort service to your car or dorm, so utilize this and everything will be good.
Clubs and Activities There are so many clubs and activities to join. So many in fact that you could be very busy and never have time to do anything else!
Bang for the buck As for in-staters, you are getting the most bang for your buck. It is a great price for the education you are going to get. As for out-of-staters this all depends on your state.
What to do for fun The Rec Center is always fun. The theatre is always having a concert of some sort. The cinema in the KUC has movies going through it quite frequently.
Food and Dining There are plenty of places to eat on campus. In addition to the dining halls, in the Student Union building and KUC there are fast food restaurants.
Dorm Life Dorm life isn't bad here. This also depends in which hall you live in. There is a lot of off-campus living that is really close to the campus and seems to be quite popular.
Academic Rigor As for Academic Rigor, it depends on which classes you are taking. Honors classes will give you a rigorous learning environment, while general classes are all depending on what professor you take.

Categories Comments Food and Dining If you have ever wanted to eat it, MTSU has it on campus. And on the off chance it doesn't the surrounding eateries do. From far eastern cuisine, Italian, southern BBQ, soul food kitchens, to Greek gyros, Murfreesboro has it all.
Dorm Life One of the reasons I preferred MTSU over other options was because you were not required to live on campus as a freshman. I did not experience dorm life and I am glad I avoided the entire scenario. I did not miss any social events and my initial college experience was better because MTSU allowed me to avoid this tedious living arrangement.
Academic Rigor There are a lot of general education requirements, so the majority of your classes, if you are remotely prepared, will seem like a breeze. However, once you begin concentrating in specific degree courses you will notice the academic pressure increase, but again, if you have any self-discipline you should maintain a strong academic average.
Tips for prospective students If you're looking for a well-rounded education with a lot of opportunities to meet new people along with keeping tuition at an acceptable rate then MTSU is a solid choice. Live off campus but within walking or biking distance and live your life to your desires as there is a group of people we also enjoys the exact same things you do.
In three sentences MTSU is well maintained, has very friendly professors and staff along with a very diverse student body. The university has a large degree selection with many different minors and specific concentrations. However, school spirit is lacking and a sense of a community with other students does not exist.

Greek Life They try very hard here to influence you to join Greek organizations which are a lot of fun for some, not really for others. You can have fun either way.
Clubs and Activities Tons of Greek life and student clubs and organizations.
Great for these types of students Education Aerospace Recording Industry
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus If you kiss someone on the KOM stairs it is said you will stay together forever!
Bang for the buck You definitely get more than you pay for here. Everything is constantly being renovated and new things happen every day.
What to do for fun There are always a lot of student activities going on at the university and around town.
Food and Dining MTSU has a lot of really good places to eat. Mcallie is all you can eat and only 5$ on Fridays. We also have a brand new student union full of food.
Dorm Life I haven't lived in a dorm, but everyone I know who has loved it. They said it helped them make friends, and the only inconvenience was the fire drills.
Academic Rigor It all depends on what classes you take and your instructor. I've had very hard and very easy classes, but most are in between and reasonable.
Tips for prospective students Parking is a nightmare, so walk or ride your bike if you can.' Make sure to double check everything with your financial aid because people often fall through the cracks. Don't be afraid to take honors classes! They are fun and not as hard as you think.
In three sentences MTSU is a friendly campus with very few drawbacks. It's fairly inexpensive and a good education for your money. There are a lot of good programs for students and it is easy to get involved and make friends.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus Safety is awesome because you continuously have police officers surrounding the campus. If something has happened or before it gets too out of hand the police are there to protect the students.
Greek Life Although I am not apart of any sorority, Greek life does seem amazing and the way they are protective towards one another, like sisterhood should be. They also represent themselves well and not only kind to their own but also to others.
Clubs and Activities They clubs here are very helpful towards the community, with the money they raise to keep the less fortune is always a good cause.
Great for these types of students Any student that wants to be successful in life, is great for any type of student.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I believe there are no unusual locations here on campus, I think every building is relevant to someone in some sort of way they see needed.

Food and Dining The food options are wonderful! To know that I can eat popeyes and Pizza Hut on campus is amazing to me! If you chose to eat health they have options for that as well!
Dorm Life I have lived off campus since I've transferred to here, however; My two best friends attend school here and stayed in the dorm their freshman year and I would come and stay with them on the weekends when I had time, and I enjoyed it. I love the fact they did not have to share their bathroom with the entire floor that they stayed on, it was just with two other rooms across the hallway.
Academic Rigor The professors here actually care about your education and don't allow you just to get by, they challenge you here at MTSU and push you to further your career.
Tips for prospective students Don't get caught up with all the partying, remain focused and know what career path you want to take and finish strong. Anything they provide you with at the University us it. Never be afraid to ask for help with anything and anyway you need it, whether its from the staff or the students.

What to do for fun Nashville is less than an hour away, thankfully, because honestly there's not much to do here. There's some shopping and good restaurants, mini golf/go karts, a couple of clubs, and a nice park.
Food and Dining Dining options here a plentiful but not particularly varied or healthy. Lots of fast food.
Dorm Life Dorms are okay. They are small and rather old but it's good to live in then your first year, or at least first semester, because it helps you get involved in campus life.
Academic Rigor It really depends on your program. My roomie is a psych major and only has class two days a week. I am a biology major, chemistry and anthropology double minor, and I'm at school every day and study all the time. Your academic experience here is what you make it.
Tips for prospective students It's a good idea to live on campus your first year because it makes it easier to get involved, make friends, and meet new people.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Murfreesboro isn't exactly the hub of excitement. There are plenty of things to do on campus (i.e. movies, social gatherings, etc.). There is a hookah bar right off of campus as well as a bar and grill. There are the standard fun events such as bowling, laser tag, movies, etc. The gym offers several outdoor excursions on the weekends.
Food and Dining There are a lot of food options at MTSU. We have our cafeteria-style dining halls targeted to residents. However there are also chain stores such as Panda Express, Dunkin' Donuts, Popeye's, Chick-fil-A, Subway, etc. Also the convenience stores located all around campus make an easy way to grab a quick, healthy lunch in a pinch.
Dorm Life The dorms are very small, and depending on your RA, you may or may not have a tight knit community around you. However all housing is located central to campus and is reasonably priced.
Academic Rigor I certainly learn at MTSU, but I can honestly say that I rarely feel overwhelmed by material or assignments. There is enough to challenge me, enough to accurately score my performance, but not so much that I feel bogged down.
Tips for prospective students Make sure that MTSU is strong in your field. Certain majors are weaker than others. It's common for students to apply and then realize they want to change fields and not consider a transfer.
In three sentences MTSU is a semi-competitive, friendly place to learn. It offers its students many opportunities in their academics and in their fields. Well-rounded, knowledgeable students come out of this college.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck the student work program will save you a bunch!
Food and Dining i don't know this one so ignore my five star
Dorm Life dorm are okay but, not that great.
Academic Rigor this depends on your major my two older sisters went there and it depended on their major such as: teaching or nursing. there is a big difference between them with the work load.
Tips for prospective students STUDY STUDY STUDY
In three sentences it's a really good school. everyone knows MTSU for it's great nursing and teaching program. and the wonderful shows they put on.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There have been incidents on campus like all. But, the police are very kind, helpful, and are always keeping an eye out for any trouble. Plus you get text alerts on your phone if you sign up that tell you if there is bad weather or a criminal on the loose.
Greek Life There are tons of fraternities and sororities on campus. They all are fair and unbiased. Each one has a unique mission that the organization holds at utmost importance, most of which is charitable causes.
Clubs and Activities I was recently President of the Women In Science and Engineering organization. There is also an astronomy club. Let's not forget the anime club either.
Great for these types of students Intrusive students do well because they meet others like them and find clubs and other interests to share. Outgoing students can always make friends or study in another country for a semester. Elder students and non-traditional students love all of their options and ammenities to help them get back into school.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The football team does a Blackout game where everyone wears black to tailgate and watch the game. Alumni never leave campus it seems. There is a club or organization for everyone and if not they allow you to charter one in a few easy steps.
Bang for the buck It is affordable enough already for the state of the art facilities. Your teachers go above and beyond for you and never try to trick you into failure. The financial aid department works with anyone to help them stay and pay for college however they can.
What to do for fun There are tons of things always going on here on campus. There are movie nights to the first Friday of every month when the astrology club welcomes all to join in a star gazing session. There are also restaurants andd bars within a couple miles.
Food and Dining From Bojangles to Chinese, it is all here. They even have sushi and vegetarian options. A dining plan is not necessary.
Dorm Life You can walk to any class, building, or library. The dorms are very neat and clean. Security measures to protect students in the dorms is outstanding,
Academic Rigor I have never had to study, but at MTSU, you have to know your stuff or you won't get the grades you strive for. The library is almost always open and it is multilevel. Although class size can be intimidating, it just mean that there are more good questions to be asked about the material that maybe you hadn't thought of or were too afraid to ask.
Tips for prospective students Do not ever miss a class if possible. Remember that there is academic amnesty in extenuating circumstances. Get used to walking a lot.
In three sentences The staff/ faculty really pushes you to succeed. The campus is very modern and can accommodate anyone, even those of us registered with disabled student services. The coursework is rigorous, but that is how you become well prepared for your future.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Always walk in daylight, with somebody, and alert. Although I never had a problem, there were a few instances on campus that worried me. I had an escort a few times, when I didn't have anyone to walk with or to talk to. They were very nice, and very willing.
Greek Life As a Panhellenic Community Member, I enjoy Greek life! Our chapters may not be the greatest in the world, but I can promise, we are genuine people. Always willing to open our arms and hearts for new members.
What to do for fun MTSU offers a variety of entertainment, such as comedians and movie nights. And if you can't find anything on campus, Murfreesboro has two malls and several parks.
Food and Dining McCallies Dining Hall, simply put, not worth the money at all. The only downside to food options such as Subway and Chick-fil-a, is that the lines are always ridiculously long.
Dorm Life I stayed in a freshman dorm, even though my parents house is not far from campus. The convenience to campus made the occasionally loud halls worth the year long stay. My roommate dropped out of school during the first semester, so the already large room I got, I got all to myself. The only downside, TORNADO AND FIRE DRILLS at 2 in the morning.
Academic Rigor MTSU always stays on top of their students, to maintain good grades. Mid-semester everyone gets academic alerts regarding grades good or bad. While they do encourage good grades, they also encourage responsibility for yourself.
Tips for prospective students Always go to class, no mater how pointless it may seem. Professors notice who is in class, and it may help you out.
In three sentences Middle Tennessee State University, as a Murfreesboro native, I always looked at it as a school in rising. After attending for one year, I have learned about the diversity on the campus. It's a very natural learning environment, while still being technologically competitive.

Categories Comments Campus Safety campus is very safe! We have our own police department on campus who are also very friendly.
Great for these types of students ANY and ALL!!
Bang for the buck Any college nowadays is extremely expensive, but MTSU is worth it!
What to do for fun The is so much to do! The are hundreds of clubs and organizations to participate in. There is ALWAYS something going on around campus, so the only reason for you to be bored is because you chose to be.
Food and Dining The dinning halls are better than average, but there are also tons of different varieties of restaurants and options on campus.
Dorm Life Dorm life, especially freshman year, is such an amazing experience that I would make it a requirement for at least one year. I met so many people and contacts through my dorm. It is one of the easiest ways to get involved on campus.
Academic Rigor It is going to be as hard as you make it. If you take difficult classes then it will be harder than if you take super easy classes.
Tips for prospective students In college, you have to find that perfect balance between social and academics; it is imperative! Once you do you can have fun and be social while still remembering that you are there to get an education.
In three sentences Choosing MTSU is the best decision I could have ever made! MTSU gives the small college feel from an actually very big school (28,000 undergrads). The school is excellent.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus police are everywhere. I tend to feel safer walking in groups at night, but during the day it is super safe. Remember, safety in numbers!
Clubs and Activities MTSU has a thriving club life. There are tons of professional organizations to get involved with as well as some interest clubs.
Great for these types of students MTSU has a stellar music program! I am a Vocal Performance Major and the attention and training I am getting is absolutely amazing!
Bang for the buck Paying in-state tuition really makes going to MTSU worth while. I also have quite a few scholarships to help take care of my tuition. Work hard and you will also be paying very little to go to school here. The professors are wonderful and have amazing field experience so they really know what they are talking about.
What to do for fun There really isn't too much to do in Murfreesboro. We have The Square downtown and The Avenue and that's pretty much it. However, we are really close to Nashville and Franklin and there is tons to do at both of those places! If you love concerts Murfreesboro is a pretty good place to be.
Food and Dining The food really is not top notch. If you are going to eat in the on-campus dining halls you should really try to eat at the JUB. Just know that flex bucks will be your best friends.
Dorm Life I personally HATED living in the dorms my freshman year. The only good thing that came out of it was the proximity. Living on campus here is SO not worth it.
Academic Rigor I give MTSU three stars for rigor because it really depends on the classes you take. I would say that my experience has been a bit harder than others because of my course load.
Tips for prospective students If you are considering going to school at MTSU you should really consider taking at least a few fun classes. I mean take some classes that you would be interested in but that don't necessarily fall under your major. This is a great way to meet people you normally wouldn't. Also, living on-campus at this school isn't a must for the first year like it is at most other big universities. MTSU is a commuter campus, so by living off-campus the whole time you are studying here you won't be missing on-campus activities. Finally, if you have the opportunity to be apart of the Honors College you should really consider it. This past year I took an English class with only seven people! I love the small classes, the attention I get from the teacher, and the rigor.
In three sentences MTSU has been a wonderful environment to continue my education. The teachers are incredibly helpful and the students care about the community. I love the general atmosphere of the school because the focus isn't all on sports teams like you will find in most other southern schools; students tend to get along and are very helpful.

Categories Comments Greek Life Great Greek life.
Clubs and Activities Greek Life is huge at MTSU. There are tons of clubs and sports available.
Great for these types of students Social butterflies.
Bang for the buck It is a cheap university. However, I feel I would have gotten a better education elsewhere.
What to do for fun Social events are constantly going on around campus.
Food and Dining Many choices on and around campus to eat.
Dorm Life I did not live in a dorm.
Academic Rigor I found that MTSU was not a very difficult school. If you did the work asked of you, it was not hard.
Tips for prospective students Try to get into the smallest classes possible when registering. If the teacher can get to know you, the better chance you have of succeeding.
In three sentences The only downfall to MTSU is the huge class sizes. It is rare to get a class smaller than 50 students. However, there are some highly accredited professors.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students MTSU is great for commuter students and non-traditional students.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The is a metal sculpture near the music building that has a curse. If you walk beneath it, you won't graduate in 4 years.
Bang for the buck If you live in state, MTSU is probably to most fiscally sound choice Tennessee has to offer.
What to do for fun MTSU has a movie theater in the Student Union Center that plays popular films before they are released on DVD for very cheap.
Food and Dining There is quite a few options, however it is lacking in healthy choices.
Academic Rigor I would say MTSU is average. It is always dependent on the teachers and the subject. College is not about how smart you are; it's about how hard you are willing to work.
Tips for prospective students Find a groups and clubs early. Many people are miserable in college because of the lack of social interaction. Plus extracurricular activities are great on resumes.
In three sentences MTSU is an underrated state school. It has some of Tennessee's best professors and departments. However, it is very much a commuter university, with little spirit and pride.
