    Tips for prospective students

Spend a couple of days at Milligan. Come for a Sunday, see what weekend life is like, and stay through Tuesday. Check out the different classes that are offered, see a Convocation (coming together) service on Tuesday morning, enjoy some meals and spend some time with the students. Call an admissions counselor at (423)-461-8700 OR go to www.milligan.edu for more information on how to get in touch with someone at Milligan.

    Bang for the buck

In total honesty, this college is expensive. It's worth it, but it is expensive. Tuition is a little high, but if you consider that 9/10ths of your professors have their doctorate in their respective fields, it's good. The dorms are nice. They are set up suite-style. In one room would be you and your roommate, and then next door there would be 2 other people, and there is a bathroom that connects the two rooms. There are 3 girls dorms and 3 boys dorms. 2/3 of both are air conditioned. 1 of the girls and 2 of the boys are upperclassmen only dorms. The college is also in the midst of a Forward Ever campaign to improve the campus.

    Am enjoying being here

There are ALWAYS things going on. Just in one semester, professors have had students over to their houses for dinner, there were campus-wide music events. Sports events happen 3 or 4 times a week, with student led events almost every weekend. There are 2 spiritual life events on Tuesdays/Thursdays, and always something to do, on or off campus.

    Am learning a lot

Milligan is one of the best academic schools I have found. Out of 7 classes, 6 out of the 7 were taught by people who have a doctorate in their respective field. The professors will do whatever necessary to make sure that you understand the material that's being given, have the necessary skills/material to study appropriately for the exams, and are adjusting to your life at Milligan.

    Greek Life

    There isn't Greek Life.

    Food and Dining

It's caf food, so of course it's not 5-star dining. Pasta bowls and ticket nights are the best. And the pizza is great too.

    Dorm Life

Dorms can get kinda noisy when you're trying to sleep, but the people are wonderful and there's lots of fun activities.

    Academic Rigor

Milligan students are expected to succeed academically. Classes can be challenging, but all the help you need is easily available.

    Tips for prospective students

When you visit, make sure to take pictures! Sit in on a class, either one in your major or that you'll be taking next year...you really want to see how great the professors are.

    In three sentences

Milligan is an amazing college. The campus is gorgeous, tucked away in the mountains, and very well maintained. The professors are also amazing, they truly care about the success and lives of their students.

Whenever a student gets engaged they are Creeked. Creeking involves being kidnapped by a group of friends and thrown into the Buffalo Creek, which runs through campus. The victims are always driven around campus pre-Creeking to a chorus of honking horns and cheering students.

    Bang for the buck

Milligan is pricey, but the education is worth it.

    What to do for fun

Hiking down to the Blue Hole is always fun. A car is needed for almost all activities even though campus is less than five miles from town. Ridgewood Barbecue is another campus favorite.

    Food and Dining

Milligan only has two dining options and they are run by the same company. The food is good, but not always varied.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life depends on the dorm. Some do not have AC while others have a full kitchen. The dorms are gender segregated.

    Academic Rigor

Like all schools there are difficult and easy classes. Humanities is challenging, but can be enjoyable if you have a good attitude. The difficulty is worth the credit hours.

    Tips for prospective students

Get to know the workers in the Registrar's Office. They will help you with just about everything when it comes to academics.

    In three sentences

Milligan is a close-knit community. The small class setting allows the professors to have a personal relationship with each student. The office staff are always kind and helpful.

Great for these types of students

Students who are actively engaged, want to pursue academics and are willing to become servants as well as leaders will enjoy Milligan.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Creeking occurs when a couple gets engaged. That is the process of the couple being dumped in the creek, normally during the middle of the night.

    What to do for fun

There are SEVERAL things to do inside and outside of Milligan, just look.

    Food and Dining

The cafe provides several options but it is pretty rough towards the end of a semester.

    Dorm Life

Dorms are beginning to get older but they are kept up, clean, and homey. The dorms are also in the process of being updated.

    Academic Rigor

There is a high standard for academics but there is also a lot of support for students to do well.

    Tips for prospective students

First off, be willing to work. In both the classroom and in the campus life, you must be willing to put forth your best so you can enjoy it to its full extent. The academics may seem scary but honestly the professors are there to help and are readily available if you need them. Secondly, be willing to get out there! GO and EXPLORE. Thirdly, try something NEW.

    In three sentences

Milligan is a beautiful campus located in Tennessee which is focused on training students to be servant-leaders through a Christian Education. With such a small campus, no one is a stranger and the professors know who you are. The academics are rigorous and the community is enriching.

    Clubs and Activities

You name it and Milligan probably has it (except american football)

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Creeking - when someone gets engaged they are ambushed and tossed in the creek on campus.

    Bang for the buck

The college is expensive but you get what you pay for... an amazing education with great people teaching and learning beside you.

    What to do for fun

There are movie theaters, bowling allies, shopping centers, and skating rinks in Johnson City and Bristol. There are also shopping centers and a TON of nature activities in Elizabethton and Johnson City and surrounding areas. Milligan College has open mic nights and PLENTY of activities on campus every week such as sporting events, inter murals, music and art programs and exhibits, concerts, worship, etc.

    Food and Dining

Sometimes the food looks like it is uneatable but it is normally good and there is usually a variety.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is fun, but it can be frustrating. A dorm is like a household. You argue like family (or worse) at times, but you also have fun with the other people living there.

    Academic Rigor

Milligan is a great school. The teachers are amazing! You will have to work though. The classes will be hard if you don't do the reading assignments.

    Tips for prospective students

Study, read every assignment for every class. Have fun but do not get caught up in everything going on on campus and off campus.

    In three sentences

I love Milligan! It is a great school academically. It needs more focus on spiritual life.

The yearbook, stompede, One7, and Habitat for Humanity are great organizations. Organizations that bring unity, friendships, growth, and joy.

    What to do for fun

There are occasional events, like concerts, over the weekend for people to go to. Also, the fitness center is fun, and it has a Wii. People can play volleyball, go to the gym, or get involved with community service or an organization.

    Tips for prospective students

Prospective students come with the desire to learn and do not be afraid. The teachers are there to help you in anyway possible. Make sure you have money for the Grill for late nights studying. Be prepared for the hill, it can be exhausting. Be open to learn about different people and try new activites.

    In three sentences

Milligan College cares about the future of each student, hence it's mission statement. Milligan College has a beautiful campus, including a beautiful view of the mountains. Milligan College has great chapel events.

    Campus Safety

It's not gated off from the rest of the world or anything, but the campus is kind of tucked away and I always feel pretty safe here.

    What to do for fun

go to sports events, coffeehouse events, and cookout for milkshakes (:

    Food and Dining

the ice cream bar is the best, and its a 50/50 chance that the salad bar will be good. the rest is typical caf food.

    Dorm Life

It's loud, the buildings are in ok shape, but a bunch of new halls are currently being built.

    In three sentences

Milligan is awesome! It's a gorgeous campus, has challenging classes, and lots of activities going on all the time! It's not a perfect little Christian college, but it's probably the best you can get :).

    Campus Safety

They have at least two Security Guards on duty every night that patrol the campus, I have never felt in danger at my school.

    Greek Life

Pretty non-existent, the only things they have are for academic honors and they have Psi Chi for Psych majors.

    Clubs and Activities

There are lots of different activities to get in on, you just have to put yourself out there. There is a Campus Activities Board where you can help plan students events, ISL a servant leadership organization where you can get a scholarship for helping in the community, there is Vespers a student led worship experience...there is a ton of things to join!

Great for these types of students

Milligan is a good experience for those who are looking for a calmer college experience, there is no drinking allowed and the dorms are not coed. It is a very unique small school environment.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Milligan has Wonderful Wednesday in the Spring where classes are cancelled on a random day and we get to partake in fun activities instead, best day of the year!

    Bang for the buck

Milligan is very expensive...but to be expected from a private Liberal Arts college, the plus side is they do offer a lot of scholarships I think some where close to 90% of students receive some kind of financial aid.

    What to do for fun

There is plenty to do with ETSU nearby, there are lots of college hangouts and restaurants open late, beautiful mountains to hike, lots of things in Johnson City which is about a ten minute drive. There is also a Dunkin' right down the road, a perfect study spot!

    Food and Dining

One of the pitfalls of a wonderful school, all students who live on campus are forced to be on the meal plan which is overprices and has very poor quality food.

    Dorm Life

Nearly all Milligan Under Grad students are required to live on campus except in rare circumstance so most of your classmates live in the dorms with you.

    Academic Rigor

Milligan academics are very intensive but well worth it, their Humanities program is particularly challenging but rewarding.

    Tips for prospective students

Milligan accepts a variety of students, apply for as many scholarships that you can because many scholarships are only available to people who apply when they come in. Make sure to buckle down your freshman year and don't blow off Bible or Humanities classes...it will come back to haunt you!

    In three sentences

I love Milligan, it is a unique small school opportunity with a close knit community of students and teachers. I've learned some great life tools and made lifelong friends.

This is a great school. I feel like I am an individual person and that the staff and professor care about me.

Students intrested in the small college atmosphere, perfect size to have classes with your friends yet still meet new people everyday.

At the beginning of the year they have a week of activities entitled TWIRP week. (The Women Is Required to Pay.) During these activities the girls ask out the guys and pay for whatever activity. Leading up to a dance at the end called the Sadie Hawkins. Another tradition is creeking, where a majority of the campus captures newly engaged couples and dunks them in the creek! After the creeking other humiliating activities are soon to follow.

    Bang for the buck

Very expensive yet worth every penny.

    What to do for fun

Milligan cafeteria's strength is in the quantity not quality.

Creeking! Whenever someone gets engaged, each couple (on separate surprise occasions), gets tied up, paraded around campus, then thrown into the creek! T.W.I.R.P. Week...The Woman Is Required To Pay date week.

    Food and Dining

It's just OK. Don't listen to anyone who complains about Caf food. Nothing beats home-cooked meals, but you can always find something to eat here.
