    Mills College is great for all types of students who are ready to be challenged academically and who are eager to have a well-rounded college experience.

    Don't be afraid to try new things and get involved at Mills.
    Bang for the buck

    Although Mills College does seem to be on the pricey side as far as colleges are concerned, I would have to say that it's well worth it. The financial aid offered at Mills College is also something worth mentioning. Mills College gives great financial aid packages and the financial aid office staff are always friendly and ready to help.
    Am enjoying being here

    The professors know my name due to the small class sizes. I have made terrific friends due to the friendly atmosphere at Mills. All in all, I would say that my time at Mills College have been a very enjoyable experience.
    Am learning a lot

    I am not only learning a lot academically, I am also learning a lot about myself. Campus life at Mills College makes it a perfect place to learn about who you are and what you believe. Something I have discovered while here.

    Great for these types of students

    This school is great for the type of young women who are timid and shy, and need to blossom into strong and confident women, ready to go out in the world on their own. Since all your classrooms will be filled with women only, you won't have the subconscious belief that the male is superior to you. There is this type of equality in Mills campus.
    Tips for prospective students

    I suggest you really look at their website and visit their campus since not most women are sure if an All-Womens school is beneficial to them.
    Bang for the buck

    To be honest, I got a Financial Aid Award of $46,318 (which $6,000 are suggested in loan) while the estimated cost of attendance is $52,706. Another $6,388 are left for me to pay on my own; in ONE year! $12,388 on my hands while being in a very low-income family of about $9,000 a year. I will have to sign up for other scholarships I believe.

    Well, there is a very diverse community surrounded by tall and luscious foliage. Every woman there will greet you, and they are very kind.
    Will learn a lot

    They have the best of teachers teaching over 1,000 courses.

    Tips for prospective students

    Do some soul-searching before applying to this school. If you desire to become a strong, empowered woman during your college education, this is 100% the right place for you. If, however, you prefer to shrink away from attention or don't want to gain the skills needed to be an active woman in a global community, this might not be the place for you. Personally, I can't think why a woman would not want to become a stronger, more empowered person, so I recommend this school to every woman I meet.

    I love Mills College, but the surrounding neighborhood makes me give Mills 4 instead of 5 stars.

    Every professor I have had at this college has been enthusiastic and passionate about the subject they teach. Every professor holds ample office hours and goes out of their way to make time for meeting with their students.

    Campus Safety

    Mills is an extremely safe environment for students. For starters, at the one vehicle entrance and exit to campus there is a gatehouse, staffed by the helpful Public Safety who keeps a watchful eye and speaks with every non-student who enters campus. All dorm buildings are accessible only with a student ID and are equip with alarm systems. I can't say enough about Public Safety, in addition to protecting students they are kind, courteous, and never more than a phone call away.
    Greek Life

    There is one sorority on campus for pre-law students. Other than that Mills strives for a very united, communal, campus.
    Clubs and Activities

    There are tons of clubs and activities on campus. There is a club for absolutely anything you can think of, and if not making one is a cinch. There is a club for the LGBTQA community, a club for latinas, a club for pre-med students, even a club for people who like to knit. In addition to clubs, there are many volunteer organizations that operate on campus that offer a great way to serve the community and build your resume. We have dances all the time, and they are usually the most popular activities on campus. Ask any student about Black and White Ball and you'll soon understand why.

    Mills is the perfect place for students who live by the motto work hard, play hard. Cyclones are dedicated students first, but also enjoy a bounce house or two in the quad.

    Mills has been around for a long time, and with that comes some unusual features, including a ghost tour. Every year around Halloween, the older students lead the freshman on a special night time walk about campus. Stops include the cemetery where Susan Mills is buried and Mills Hall, the historical landmark with bumps in the night. Another not to miss unique attribute is the special Book Room in the library where one can find a page from a Gutenberg Bible, a first edition Alice and Wonderland with hand drawn illustrations along with hundreds of other treasures. This campus gains a huge amount of character and interesting stories from its age, make sure to take a tour (ghost or regular) when you stop by and learn about the diamond cutting window.

    Not to mince words, Mills is expensive. It is a private school with a hefty price tag. But, it is absolutely worth every penny. For that money you get person attention, tiny classes, amazing resources both academic and personal, an on campus library with a secret book room, amazing speakers and lectures all the time, and the opportunity to really thrive and succeed.
    What to do for fun

    Mills offers something pretty special to students, a free bus pass! For those who come without cars, its a great way to explore the city (and for free). Mills is very close to Berkeley which offers lots of fun shopping, ,dining, and entertainment. Students also like to take in the local sports, the A's, Warriors, and Raiders all play about 15 mins away from campus. Last but not least, we are close to San Francisco. Students often carpool to the city to dance or take in the sights, but Mills also has structured excursions to Alcatraz or other local hot spots.
    Food and Dining

    Cafeteria food is cafeteria food, right? Wrong! Founders Commons is the main dining hall on campus, situated on a hill from which you can over look most of the San Francisco Bay Area. The food is catered by a company called Bon Appetite, who prides themselves on farm fresh meals that are healthy and eco-conscience. There are always vegetarian and vegan options and compared with most dining hall food it is light years ahead.
    Dorm Life

    The dorms at Mills are really quite gorgeous. The campus itself is over 100 years old, and most of the buildings are too! That means hard wood floors, beautiful detailing, and the kind of old world charm you can't get any where else. Each dorm also has a library/study for students to gather and collaborate. Also of special note, most rooms here are for ONE PERSON, no roommates unless you want them.
    Academic Rigor

    Whatever Mills lacks in large class size, it makes up for in academic challenge. Because you have the opportunity to get to know your professors, and work on really personalized material, standards are high. But never fear, even if the class seems really hard, the professors here WANT you to get an A and are always around for support and guidance. Mills really does work to prepare you for graduate school or whatever your goals may be after your undergraduate education is complete.
    Tips for prospective students

    If I had any tips to give someone coming to Mills, it would be to bring an open mind. College is already something totally new and exciting for most freshman, so take it as it comes! And don't forget to utilize all the resources Mills has to offer early on (Center for Academic Excellence, free peer tutors, writing center, one on one time with professors etc). Remember to not be too hard on yourself and get out there to make some lasting connections. You won't regret it!

    Beautiful, tranquil, and supportive. Mills College is the absolute place to be for women looking to succeed in both academics and in the real world future that lies ahead. Cyclone ladies get all the benefits of a big school with highly qualified professors, visiting lectures, and their own museum; with all the benefits of a small school including tiny class sizes and personal attention.

    Mills College is a very safe campus, small in size, gated with an entrance that is monitored by security.
    Great for these types of students

    Mills College is the perfect fit to girls who are dedicated on furthering their education, and enriching their lives, intellectually, socially, and personally.
    What to do for fun

    Mills creates a social environment for girls by creating the Living Learning Communities. Each LLC focuses on a different topic that is meant to bring together girls with a common interest. A wide variety of clubs are offered a Mills, from Toastmasters to yoga.
    Food and Dining

    The communal cafeteria at Mills College offers a wide variety of healthy, organic food and meals. A small cafe/coffee shop can also be found on the campus. There are four different meal plans that are offered, as well as vegetarian options.
    Dorm Life

    Incoming students will be tickled to know that the girls attending Mills College are welcoming and friendly. More than 50% of the students enjoy a single room, while the option of doubling with a roommate is also offered. Mills College also welcomes incoming freshman by having them participate in Living Learning Communities (LLCs), to group girls with common interests.

    The students who attend Mills College must be diligent, focused, and inquisitive to master the courses offered.     First of all: Oakland is not scary! Oakland has so many fun activities that are so close to campus. Mills is tucked away from highway 580 in Oakland, yet the free shuttle we operate allows anyone to get anywhere around the East Bay. BART is a great way to travel to San Francisco as well.
    Tips for prospective students

    We are a very education-based campus, but do maintain social lives! Mills women are the strongest and smartest women in the world! Faculty and staff wish only the best for their students: one on one tutoring is available (free!) and classes have a small ratio making learning more efficient.

    Mills has an extensive science program, as well as a broad liberal arts education. Mills has a female-only undergraduate population, but there are men on the campus! We maintain a very open environment for whoever wants to join the college and feel included in the Mills community.

    An unusual tradition at Mills College is to visit the burial site of the school's founders. It is a ghost hunt that will bond you with your fellow students. Very Fun!

    As a whole, Oakland is very affordable for students. Being as students live on a budget there are many great small grocery stores in the area that have very affordable fresh produce and if you're into Indian food we have one of the most affordable Indian buffets in town!
    What to do for fun

    There are many different things in the area to do for fun. Whether it be going to the movies or taking a hike in the Oakland Hills, the area is filled with fun things to do.

    The food at the school is very good and is some of the healthiest in the country. there are many different meal plan options and on the weekends the waffle bar is to die for. But, with an unlimited salad bar don't worry about the freshman fifteen.

    Dorm life is fun, the dorms are beautiful and very quit on the weekends.

    This school has very rigorous academics. If you are dedicated and know how to study well, you will get through it fine. Professors are your ultimate resources. Enjoy your studies and take advantage of office hours.

    Make sure to take part in all of the events that the school has to offer. Mills 101 in orientation is a great way to meet other freshman. Also, make sure to go off campus and study in the area surrounding the campus.

    What to do for fun

    Give the Oakland Hills a visit! There's Berkeley, the Berkeley hills, and pockets of redwood forest amidst the residential area of oakland for hiking/relaxing are such a refreshing surprise! There's always San Francisco, Rockridge, downtown Oakland, art festivals, concert venues for both over and underaged students, what isn't there to do?!
    Food and Dining

    The food and dining at Mills is very accommodating to students with specific eating habits or allergies, etc. It only serves organic and locally grown foods and always has vegan/vegetarian/gluten free options available. Not to mention, it's delicious!
    Dorm Life

    Dorm life at my first year of Mills was one of the best experiences that has ever happened in my life. As a college that focuses on fostering a sense of community and welcoming students with diversity and acceptance, Mills dorm life has given me friends that will last for a lifetime.
    Academic Rigor

    Mills gets a bad rap for being an all women's college that is one of the worst party schools in the nation. We always like to say, if partying and socializing is what matters most to the general population of people, well than we don't mind not being a part of it! We are a campus full of folks who are focused on our educations, and who are challenged socially, personally, and academically every day. In that sense, it is academically rigorous, but it's an environment which fosters individual growth and self confidence, and most would be surprised at what they will accomplish when they attend our college.
    Tips for prospective students

    Visit the campus! As a prospie, who was confused and overwhelmed, visting Mills campus provided me with the support and assurance I was looking for! Not only is it an incredibly beautiful environment, but the community of folks who were there to answer my every question and who made it their priority to make sure I had an awesome experience, were some of the most welcoming, and likeminded people I've ever met.

If you are comfortable in an experimental, interdisciplinary, knowledge-focused environment, Mills is the place for you.     Campus Safety

    The dorms are alarmed and public safety is always on the ready. There are blue alarm boxes and phones situated around campus. Not to mention the whole place is fenced in.
    Greek Life

    There is none but the campus isn't particularly friendly to it. Part of the reason is because our campus is so small, it wouldn't accommodate for big chapters, but we have a strong history of being the sister college to Cal State Hayward and Berkeley so many students join chapters from those schools.
    Clubs and Activities

    Just like any other campus, many of the clubs are run by a few passionate individuals with members dropping off here and there.

    A resumer, a transfer, and a first year will all have very different, but equally fulfilling experiences at Mills College.

    Apparently the school is haunted, and while I never experienced (or invited) ghosts around me, many on campus believe they exist.

    Because this school was founded for wealthy white women in the 1800s, students now are privy to many school traditions such as the president's tea, the Junior/Senior celebration, and many other events that have clearly been around since the early 1900s.
    What to do for fun

    There is at LEAST one event per week, and usually multiple happening on campus the same day. If one wants to get off campus, they are only a fifteen minute bus ride from downtown and only a five minute bus ride from libraries, cafes, restaurants, and grocery stores.
    Food and Dining

    While any dining hall can get repetitive, Bon Appitit takes suggestions for food and implements them that same week. The food is always fresh, delicious, and offers a wide array of options for meat eaters to vegetarians to vegans to people who have allergies as basic as peanut to as advanced as dairy and gluten.
    Dorm Life

    Depending on when you enter, you get acquainted with your fellow residents through activities set up by your Resident assistant. There are a variety of residence halls, including a resumer wing (for 23+), quiet hall, handicap accessible, and others.
    Academic Rigor

    You receive a lot of assistance when needed, but the teachers do not hold back on the their assignments, tests, and expectations.
    Tips for prospective students

    For any college, always make sure that the program you're looking into is highly regarded, and rigorous. Look at the alumni networks and look at the rates at which students get internships and jobs from teachers and alumni. College will end one day, make sure you ask questions and are prepared for the future.

    Campus Safety

    Despite the negative vibes that people get when they hear that Mills College is located in Oakland, Mills campus is one of the safest campuses I have been to. The school is small and nothing on campus happens that would make the students worry. Public safety, the campus security, does their best job to make the Mills experience a safe one. If anything does happen on campus or in the surrounding area, the Mills community is notified right away so that everyone is informed.
    Greek Life

    There is no Greek life on campus, since Mills College is an all woman's college.
    Clubs and Activities

    Since Mills is such a small campus, we have a small selection of clubs to join. They range from political stand points to eco-friendly to physical activity to just because randomness. It is really easy to join a club and many clubs hold events for the Mills community such as dances and bake sales. Many clubs involve themselves in the greater Oakland community which is a great way to get to know the community outside Mills.

    Mills is a great school for women who are ready to get down to business and determined to achieve their goals by focusing primarily on their education. Mills also supports the LGBTQ community. It is a campus for women who are open minded.

    Mills College has an on-site cemetery where the founders of the college are buried.

    Even though Mills is a private school and it cost more to go to a private school, Mills is completely worth it. Also, Mills offers financial aid that may end up costing less to go to Mills then another public school. The small classrooms, the professional relationships that you develop with the faculty, readily available resources for students, and strong friendships formed make Mills an amazing school and completely bang for the buck.
    What to do for fun

    Mills is centrally located in the Bay Area. San Francisco is just a BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) ride away or a bus ride away. Luckily, Mills students get a Clipper card where we can use the bus system (AC Transit) for free. AC Transit helps you get around Alameda and Contra Costa County. There is also the Fox Theater, Grand Lake Theater, Farmers Market, Lakeshore, Jack London Square, Lake Merritt and many other attractions in Oakland, all of which are conveniently located.
    Food and Dining

    Food and dining goes through an outside company called Bon Appetit. For the dining services for those who live on campus, they offer a variety of food and cater to those who have gluten allergies or prefer a vegan or vegetarian lifestyle. The dining services are available for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There is also the Tea Shop that is open all day that offers food and snacks for students and people from outside of the Mills Community. Bon Appetit uses ingredients that are locally grown. Another big thing that Mills values a lot is being eco-friendly so the majority of to go food containers bought through the dining services on campus are compostable.
    Dorm Life

    The majority of the dorms on campus are single rooms. You will be given a single room unless you request one. You can also request a roommate so you do no get put in a room with a stranger. The dorm buildings are beautiful and basic furniture is given to you. Hall meetings happen periodically and hall events such as Spa Night or Movie Night or going out on an excursion happen throughout the school year, exclusively to residents.
    Academic Rigor

    Mills is a rigorous school. Granted that different majors expect slightly different things from the students. Overall, Mills is not easy and work must be put into your classes in order to excel and gain the best college experience possible. Despite the tough times that occur with academics, the faculty and staff are more than happy to offer additional help with peer tutoring, teacher assistants and workshops in addition to class time. Since the campus is small, you get to go to professor's office hours without having to worry about having a long line in front of you and possibly not being able to meet with your professors.

    Mills College is more than happy to offer campus tours throughout the year. Contact an admissions counselor for events for prospective students and any more information regarding the application process. Also, if you have an idea of what field you are interested in, contact a Mills professor for any questions regarding classes and academic requirements for a degree in a certain field.

    Mills offers fantastic education and great scholarships. It is much cheaper for me than any of the UC's and I do not lose anything.
    What to do for fun

    All of the clubs are very time consuming and fun. There is a gym, pool, and equipment on campus. There are some near by food places and a trail around and through Mills. Lounges are fun as well.

    The food is alright. The dining committee is working on better packaging and labeling for all the food in the Tea Shop as well as more options in the dining hall for more unconventional eaters.

    I do not live in the dorms, but what I hear there is little drama and many friendships.
    Academic Rigor

    Mills is perfect because it takes the stress out of learning. The teachers are well-trained and extremely educated. They take the time to help the students and even really difficult classes can have some ease to them.

    Get involved and stay on track with the semester! The best way to fit in on this campus is to be yourself and dive into extra curricular activities, but don't go to hard you're there for the education.

    Overall the campus is very safe. Public safety will escort you to any building if needed. I am a commuter, one day I left my lights on all day and public safety came within 5 minutes to jump my car. I was so grateful for them to jump my car.

    The Mills campus is beautiful. You can lay out on the grass for hours, it is very peaceful.

    Just hang out on the plaza. The Mills campus is beautiful!

    Never feel ashamed to ask for help or to say you don't know how to do something. Like I've mentioned before, the professors and students will be happy to help you.

    Campus Safety

    While Mills does sit in a not so great part of Oakland, it is still very safe! We have a campus that is gated and guarded 24/7. All the dorms require ID cards to access and there isn't much crime on campus. Overall, I feel very safe at Mills!
    Greek Life

    There isn't Greek Life at Mills. While there is a Frat you can join, there is not a Frat house. That being said, UC Berkley is very close, and if you are searching for Greek Life you can easily go from Mills to there for parties.
    Clubs and Activities

    There are lots of clubs on campus, and you can join any sport. However, there is not much campus life on the weekends besides the events hosted by the OSA. Mills is trying to improve this though! They have increased school events and are trying to get more students involved on campus.

    Mills is great for student who want small class sizes and intimate interactions with their professors and classmates. For those worried about being a number instead of a face and a name, look no further! Mills is definitely the place for you!

    There are some really great places on campus to hang out including the oval and Adams Plaza. Every year, near Halloween, the Sophomore class takes the Freshwomen on a ghost tour of the campus.

    While tuition is pretty high, Mills offers pretty great financial aid. It is almost as cheap for me to go to a state school as it is to go to Mills. Also, Mills' class sizes and tutoring services can't be matched by bigger schools. You definitely get a lot of bang for your buck here.
    What to do for fun

    There is lots to do in Oakland, including festivals and farmers markets. Nearby we have Berkley (which there is a shuttle to) and San Francisco (which is pretty easy to get to using either BART or buses. Lots of people like to go into SF for the night life.
    Food and Dining

    Lots of vegan and vegetarian options. Mills does a pretty good job, in comparison to other schools, with their food. There are several different dining options on campus. Most of the produce is local and organic.

    Dorm life at Mills is pretty awesome. While it's generally pretty quiet, it also depends on who is in your residence hall. If you are looking for partying, there is partying (although there are no frats/sororities to party at since there are no men..), and if you are looking for quiet there is that as well. There are usually plenty of activities that go on in residence halls during the school year.

    Mills is a tough school. Professors expect a lot from you, however, they really want you to do well. Mills does do a really great job in supporting students though. They offer peer tutoring as well as office hours with the professors and many places for students to study.

    Make sure to participate in class and visit professors during visiting hours. There are peer tutors available if you need them (who are free for you to use), so use them! Also, don't be afraid to change majors! If you aren't enjoying what you're studying do something else!

    The campus is very safe. The entire school is fenced in and there is a guard shack at the front gate. Entering cars must stop and state their intention and public safety regularly patrols the school.

    Much better than most schools. They are accommodating for multiple diets, including vegan and gluten-free, and you can eat at either the dining commons or at the tea shop.

    They try their best to match you with hall mates you'll get along with, and the RAs and RD and usually available for anything. Every residence hall has a kitchen and a rec room with TV and DVD player.

    Take advantage of the many visitation days offered by the school. They're a lot of fun and give you a good idea of whether or not the school is a good fit for you. Do your research and apply for as many scholarships as you can.

    While the campus is kind of in an odd part of Oakland, it's right at the entrance of the Oakland Hills (a nice part of Oakland), there's still some sketchy parts of Oakland right near the campus, but don't let it deter you, campus safety is huge, and the sketchyness has not found its way inside of Mills cool iron gates.
    Greek Life

    There is none, and it's not really needed, with the aforementioned LLCs and all the clubs and such on campus there's, again, really no need.
    Clubs and Activities

    Rowing is the huge thing on campus. The choir is also being brought back after being defunct for a number of years. There are also some really cool musical ensembles put together by the music department.
    Great for these types of students

    It's not good for slackers or partiers. It sounds like the amount of Mills parties is very small, so to go and party, you would have to go off campus. With that being said, I think it's good for women who are adventurous in one way or another, be it academically or not. And just like any college, you have to be smart with how you use your time!

    Each class has a class color (mine is purple), so as each class is about to graduate, the campus explodes in that color, it's very neat and a nice show of affection for the students and the work the graduates have done. There are also grand pianos all over the campus because of Mills and it's tradition with music.

    Mills appears to be very helpful when it comes to financial aid, especially if you have unique attributes and good academic standing. Mills is definitely pricey, but they are really good with helping closing the barrier between what you have to pay and what you can pay. The main thing is that you must communicate with the Financial Aid offices and to have ALL of your paper work in.
    What to do for fun

    There is a bus that will take you to Berkeley, which is literally 10 minutes away. The bus will also take you to the train station or to BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit), by BART, San Francisco is only 20 minutes away (and the cost to get to SF by BART is usually under $5, much cheaper than gas!) There is also the Piedmont area in Oakland, which I am less familiar with, but it sounds very nice.
    Food and Dining

    There is both a tea shoppe and the general cafeteria. You can go into the cafeteria hall, swipe your food card, then get as much food as you want! And you don't have to hide the food that you're packing out. The food is GOOD, both times I have visited, the food has been spectacular, definitely not the high school lunches I've been witnessing the past four years. (I've heard that the food is provided by Bon Appeit). The only reason that it gets 4 stars is because the points system at the Tea Shoppe is a tad confusing.
    Dorm Life

    85% of the girls have their own dorms, the only people who have roommates are the people who ask specifically for a roommate! For your freshwoman year, you are arranged into LLC's (living learning communities), where you meet other girls. They are arranged based on where your dorm is (you pick your top 3 LLCs when filling out your housing) and also your interests. I think it's a great way to meet other people, especially when you have your own dorm.
    Academic Rigor

    While I have not yet attended classes, I have already received a book that there will be a freshwoman seminar on. This shows to me that Mills VALUES academics. I also sat in on an English Literature course, the class was full of discussion and seemed very into what the course and professor were covering.
    Tips for prospective students

    If you have ANY questions at all, just call or shoot an email. The professors seem to like emails more and the admissions staff prefers you to call (unless stated otherwise). You ought to visit the campus and see if it is a fit for you, I was unsure of Mills until I visited the campus and fell in love with not only the campus but also the people there. While it is an all girls school, there are plenty of opportunities to meet other people, so don't let that factor drive you away! The website is also very manageable and is something prospective students should definitely look at.

    Mills campus safety is amazing. The public safety services are always there to make students feel safe, and offer to escort students to different buildings on campus after it is dark outside. While on the Mills Campus there is no reason to feel unsafe. The dorms have obvious limitations on access and all the doors leading to the outside have alarms. More than that it is required for anyone who chooses to bring a guest to stay with them on campus to escort them at all time in the dorm buildings.

    Mills College actually does not have any Greek life.

    Mills has an impressive array of clubs on campus which just goes to show how many different ways one can get involved. Furthermore these clubs also represent the different passions that each Mills student holds and steps that they take to share those very passions. Of course, there are some clubs that are more active than others, but still the existence of many clubs adds to the idea of leadership and initiative that all Mills women share.

    Mills is an amazing place for anyone who is willing to step out of the box. Mills forces you to challenge yourself, and if you are not willing to step out of your comfort zone Mills might not be able to offer to you all that it really can.     Some Mills students like to chase ghosts of campus. Mills is an extremely old school that is packed with a rich history. One of these is chasing ghosts at the Mils cemetery (don't worry it's really not that big). Mills also has a variety of trails running through it, so in the case that one is feeling stressed, just going for a walk will get your mind off of things. One of the most beautiful traditions that happens during Freshmen Orientation is the candlelight ceremony. At this ceremony all incoming freshmen write three wishes on a piece of paper (one for themselves, one for their classmates, and one for the world) and tie them to the trees in the courtyard between the two freshmen dorms. Rumor has it that when they fall, the wishes will come true!

    As a private university Mills tuition is not more than what might be typical of schools like it. Unfortunately due to the suffering economy Mills was not as able was it used to be to offer amazing financial aid packages to all of its students. Still, it has made amazing efforts to bring down its price tag through offering various merit scholarships as well as offer generous need-based financial aid.
    What to do for fun

    Mills College is in the best location. It's literally at the heart of the Bay Area with easy access to downtown Oakland, downtown Berkeley, and San Francisco. There is always something going on, on and off campus. People go out dancing, check out the different restaurants in the area, or stay on campus for a club meeting or activity. Mills also likes to throw dances during various points in the year, which is just another fun way of bringing some spirit into the school!
    Food and Dining

    Mills food is good! Our catering service is Bon Appetite who does as much as they can to bring organic and local foods to campus. One of the great things about Mills dining is how many vegan and vegetarian options they make available. Sensitive to everyone's dietary restrictions they try to make different foods as accessible as possible. Another fun and yummy thing that the cafeteria does is make foods that relate to different heritage months throughout the year. The lines for food are super long on those days!
    Dorm Life

    The dorms at Mills College are beautiful. They are all furnished with antique furniture and have grand pianos in the common rooms. 80% of the rooms on campus are singles! This provides for each student to have her own space within the larger community of students. Of course, there are also apartment and co-op options available on campus.
    Academic Rigor

    Mills does not fail to challenge students within the classroom. Because of its small class sizes (about 10-20 students in an average class) students are help much more accountable for their work. Establishing a close relationship with professors is inevitable as a Mills student. These relationships can work to a students advantage in the long run by creating connections for future employment opportunities. The workload of most classes is about 4 hours out of class for every hour spent in lecture. Although it may seem like a lot, the professors have a way of making all subjects interesting and enjoyable.
    Tips for prospective students

    Prospective students should make sure to bring a passionate attitude when they come to Mills. This does not necessarily mean that they should be passionate about one thing in particular, but be prepared to become passionate about the classes they are in. The small class sizes allow for much student engagement within the classroom, and the small student body size allows for even more engagement within the greater campus community. Mills, being an extremely diverse campus, provides for amazing opportunities to learn about and get to know different types of people. Anybody considering Mills should be aware of the fact that an open heart and an open mind are two very important keys to understanding Mills College.

    Mills is expensive, but the knowledge and people you will gain while here will counter-act the financial costs. There are also loads of (FREE) services available to the students, make sure you take advantage of those! I just went to career services today and was able to have my resume looked over, I now know how to make my resume more efficient and concise.

    Berkeley is a (free) shuttle away. There is always something to do if you bored right in dorms, too: take, for instance, mattress surfing down three flights of stairs! Did that!
    Food and Dining

    Founders is not very good at all--don't get me wrong, they have their moments, and everything is supposed to fresh (farm to fork initiative) but some times the food just falls flat. Thank goodness they have a cereal bar. Tea Shop is good, however somewhat expensive and is not open on Saturday or late at night.

    I've heard first-years get best dorms. Halls become your close family at Mills. If anyone is ever sick or needs anything, someone in your hall will definitely help you out. Hall-mates are some the funnest people you will know!

    Most classes are very academically rigorous; which will require at least 3-5 hours of homework a week. But professors and TAs are readily available for help. And if you allow, your classes can actually be fun and entertaining!

    In your first year, experiment with classes. Remember that there are general education requirements to be full-filled in addition to your intended major. Try something different--but all the while, try to think ahead with the type of classes you choose.

    The school is surrounded by a wall and gated off from the outside neighborhood. There is only one way in and out. Once you get on campus, it feels like a completely different world separate from Oakland. It is peaceful, serene, and safe.

    I hear the food is quite delicious and they offer a variety of options for vegetarians and vegans. I'm personally not a vegetarian or a vegan so i hope they have a good selection of meat!

    Incoming freshmen get put into an LLC (Living Learning Community) of their choice where they will be able to bond with other girls who have the same interests with them as well participate in outings, programs and sometimes classes. Most dorms are SINGLE rooms, which means no roommate! Unless you want one.

    Start looking for outside scholarships early because you will most likely need them to help pay for your tuition and fees. Visit the campus, it's absolutely beautiful and you'll be able to get a feel for the type of community the school offers as well meet some of the current students there!
