    Am learning a lot

Last week I was talking with the President of Miracosta, Mr. Rodriguez, he has a very interesting life story. Other then that he showed me that even though he was label in high school as mentally impaired, because of his lost of vision in one eye he still attended a community college, then transfer to a college, later he got his PH.D. Other then that, Miracosta has awesome teachers I believe that more then half of our teachers teach other universities at the same time or have PHD's and we as students are able to benefit from it and pay low cost tuition. Miracosta is a great school.

    What to do for fun

MiraCosta has an amazing community! All the students seem to be really active in specific clubs and out door school activities.

    Food and Dining

The food is delicious. They have a large variety of meals. They have multicultural dishes and accommodate breakfast, lunch and dinner. They have everything a convenience store has and then some!

    Dorm Life

This campus does not accommodate Dorm life.

    Academic Rigor

Teachers are very professional and all seem very well educated in their material. A lot of the professors I studied under were very friendly but professional at the same time. Going above and beyond to help you succeed was a common trait each professor possessed. Almost as if it were a signature by MiraCosta!

    Tips for prospective students

I most definitely recommend speaking with one of the MiraCosta Councillor before jump starting into your first semester here. They have the ability to map out your entire educational career and determine what you need and how you're going to get it. They create and help you set goals and give you a clear understanding of what this school really has to offer.

    In three sentences

MiraCosta by far is one of the most organized and professional community schools I have ever attended. It's a clean and beautiful campus and very affordable. It's compiled with numerous amounts of opportunities not only in terms of education but on campus employment as well.

Great for these types of students

It is great for students how are planning to transfer to a 4-year university, students are planning to get an Associates Degree, and students who are trying to go to a school where they will get the same education and help as universities offer.

    Tips for prospective students

If you need help do not be afraid to ask for it because the teachers will help you. If you have a goal in mind Mira Costa College will help you achieve that goal.

    Bang for the buck

Even though it is a community college they have great teachers and tools to help students. The teachers do a very good on preparing you for a university if you planning to transfer.

    Am enjoying being here

It is great place because it does not have many students, and I just love it. They have so many clubs for so many type of students. You can even start your own club with your friends.

    Am learning a lot

The teachers are very helpful, and they are always there when you need them. They have so many programs that can help you with any assignment.

    Food and Dining

Although there is only one cafeteria the food is good. Also the Oceanside campus is centrally located to a lot of food places.

    Academic Rigor

This depends on the class. I am a engineering major so my math and physics classes were hard. However, some of the filler classes are a walk in the park.

    In three sentences

MiraCosta is a great community college.

    Tips for prospective students

make sure when you go to class that you appear as professional and as courteous as you would like to be treated by your professor. the classes are great, but figure out where your classes will be held ahead of time so you aren't running around the campus trying to find a bathroom on your 5 minute break.

    Campus Safety

Everyone is responsible for keeping a campus safe, but MiraCosta police have a pretty good handle on things.

    Clubs and Activities

Good student activity on campus, university level student involvment at the community college level is hard to come by.

Great for these types of students

Commuter students, night students, adult learners and those looking to get degrees for a better price.

    Bang for the buck

Great staff, nice campus, convenient locations for a community college price.

    What to do for fun

You're in San Diego county, you can figure it out.

    Food and Dining

The food choices on campus are very good, the cafe is open late and has good food for a school cafeteria and the packaged items range in price and nutritional value. Any student can find something they like here.

    Academic Rigor

Many classes are more challenging than the same class at other community colleges or even at the university level.

    Tips for prospective students

Keep your educational goals in mind, there are counselors available to help you reach them, but ultimately it's up to you to take the steps necessary to get there.

The cafeteria is pretty good. They make everything there and have different dishes all of the time.

    Dorm Life

    There are no dorms.

    Academic Rigor

The programs here are pretty great. The science department is especially geared toward nursing and medical careers. There is a big focus on turning out amazing nurses who actually know about the human body rather than just guessing.

    Tips for prospective students

Talk to a counselor to make an education plan so you're not taking classes you don't need. Check out the campus and try to find places you know you'll want to go. Make sure to apply early and do all the things they ask you so you can register early; there are a lot of students and not always enough space for everyone in every class.

    In three sentences

MiraCosta is huge but has a lot to offer. There are a ton of classes and so many events always going on. In ever office on campus the office staff are some of the best and most helpful I have ever experienced.

    What to do for fun

There are many opprotunities for students to have fun out of the classroom here on campus. They offer many intramural sports that all students are invited to join. They even have video game competitions at times with prizes and snacks!

    Food and Dining

The food in the cafeteria is a little pricey, but sometimes it is worth it because it is conveinant and delicious!

    Dorm Life

No dorm living here at this community college. But if your looking for a room to rent just visit the studen center website for a listing of rooms for rent, usually put up by students who live very close to campus.

    Academic Rigor

The rigor of the classes, of course, is based on the class that you choose. Some classes that I have taken have really tested the limits of my brain and thinking and others, have been more of a fun easy A. I believe that this is the perfect mix and has helped me maintain a great GPA.

    Tips for prospective students

I suggest that you make an appointment with a counselor first thing. The education plan that they will help you create will really help on your road to your degree! Also take full advantage of the free tutoring services they have here, for every subject!

    What to do for fun

The fun is when you study. Either way it all depends on what you like.

    Food and Dining

There's a big cafeteria so it's always nice because you can eat and at the same time you can be studying. There is always a place to relax.

    Dorm Life

I live at home because it is so much more economical.

    Academic Rigor

The level of intensity in courses depends on the professor. It can be an easy class but the tests are hard, or it can be a difficult classwork and easy tests. However, it's important to make sure and you seek help if you don't understand something because otherwise you'll get behind and it tends to be hard to catch up.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you know what you want to do at MiraCosta. Whether to take some classes and then transfer to a 4 year college whether to get your general education out of the way, it's important so that you don't waste time.

    In three sentences

The professors are all knowledgeable and very helpful. I started out in a 4 year college and I wasn't able to learn the things that I have been able to learn with the professors at MiraCosta College. I want to be able to stay here, and that is why I am researching for scholarships because I know that with everything I am doing I'll be able to succeed.

    Campus Safety

Due to a high volume of night classes, students' safety is a priority on this campus. The campus security guards are always patrolling and as a woman in a dark parking lot every night, I felt very safe.

    Clubs and Activities

Although this is a community college, MiraCosta does a great job of keeping students involved and gathering people based upon similar interest groups. There are events going on year-round through the school, which helps to enrich this college experience.

Great for these types of students

Great for students working and attending school, or paying for school on their own. Also great for those returning to college after a number of years.

    Bang for the buck

Absolutely the way to go, especially for those earning credit toward their general education. So cheap that I can't understand why everyone doesn't do it this way!

    What to do for fun

This campus is right by the beach and lagoon. There is a beautiful scenic trail to hike, bike, or run on. Just around the corner you can go for a surf session between classes, or hang out at one of the local beach-town Mexican food places (yum!).

    Food and Dining

There is a cafeteria which is great for its size, however it is small due to the small San Elijo campus.

    Dorm Life

This could be rated with no stars, because it is a community college and there are no dorms. It can also be rated with five stars because living off campus is better than any dorm!

    Tips for prospective students

The class schedules at this campus makes it more convenient to work and go to school at the same time. If attending night classes, students should take note of the hours of operation of the library, bookstore, student center and cafeteria. The parking passes can be purchased daily if desired, or at a discounted rate for longer time periods.

    In three sentences

MiraCosta's San Elijo Campus is a small, yet beautiful campus with a quaint feel and about a mile from the beach. The student demographic ranges widely in age and ethnicity, and would be a welcoming place for a new student in any phase of their life. I would recommend attendance at this college for the value of classroom time at an inexpensive price.

    Academic Rigor

The Academic excellence and teachers are highly professionals who have dedicated their lives in teaching. The quality in Mira Costa has the best than any four university It provides excitement, new experiences, new faces, new ideas and learning from them.

    Tips for prospective students

Here are tips for upcoming freshman prospective students: 1. Always have a friend near by you because it tends to get lonely with out someone to talk to when your alone studying or reading. 2. Campus Safety

Trustworthy is the only word to describe our campus. If you need to use the restroom a fellow student will gladly watch your things. MiraCosta is one of the only places where you can be sure your missing item will turn up in the lost and found.

    Clubs and Activities

There is a club to satisfy every interest. It is impossible to feel like you don't belong.

Great for these types of students

Our student body is made up of individuals from all over the world. It is not uncommon to see international students hanging in the quad daily. If you really want to learn something new take time to get to know someone from another country.

    Bang for the buck

Nowhere else can you get a quality education for such a great price. The only hurt that your wallet will endure is in the bookstore. If you are crafty and know where to look you can get you can get your book for more than half the price online.

    What to do for fun

College hour is the best activity on campus. Each week there is live music or other forms of live entertainment put on by campus club or up and coming bands. Don't forget the free food!

    Food and Dining

The on-campus cafeteria offers an array of food. There is something to satisfy everyone's taste buds. If you don't want chips and a soda you can have fresh sandwiches made or even have a homemade meal such as meat loaf with mashed potatoes and gravy. My favorite is the pizza.

    Dorm Life

One of the only down falls of going to a community college is the lack of dorms.

    Academic Rigor

When you walk into the door of your first class you will definitely be scared. Don't worry. Our instructors are skilled and will explain any and everything to you. By the time you leave class your first day you will be convinced that the only grade you will earn is an A.

    Tips for prospective students

The best advice I can give to a prospective student is to take advantage of all the resources MiraCosta has to offer. Any problem or concern you have there is a center of office willing to take time to help. Definitely don't be afraid to ask for help!!!

There's always campus security around every corner! It makes me feel very safe. Most professors I've had here always recommend the buddy system for night classes! They even offer to walk you themselves if you don't have one. It's nice.

MiraCosta has smaller classrooms and I feel like I'm getting what I pay for! The Professors are very helpful!

There's a parking lot patrol staffed by students after it starts to get dark outside. Seems silly to me, but it may be very comforting to others to know someone is walking around making sure you get to your car safe. San Diego City College, which actually has a history of being somewhat less safe, could benefit from a similar program.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The Veterans Information Center (known as The Lounge by some) has been the starting point of many college adventures. Very welcoming to veterans who have no clue what they're doing, or are just looking to touch base with others who have similar experiences. The staff is professional, but the room can get pretty crowded at times.

    Bang for the buck

Im attending Mesa college and spent time at the City College campus, and you're getting a better deal at MiraCosta by far, which is why I drive the extra distance to have a dependable experience. MiraCosta is by no means perfect, but its consistently good. The campus is cleaner and safer, and the professors are on average very good, in my opinion.

    What to do for fun

There are the usual facilities for sports (which are maintained well), however nothing is really centralized, so be prepared for a little walk if you like to play basketball and then want to run at the track, or like tennis and then want to toss the pig-skin around. Intramural sports are actually pretty good here, so if you have a sport in mind, keep an eye open for start dates. For shooting enthusiasts, Iron Sights isn't too terribly far, so you can get the lead out if you want. For those who like a cocktail after class, there are several bars in close proximity, but not walking distance, so designate a DD!

    Food and Dining

The Oceanside campus has some above-average food, at none-to-surprisingly high prices. The food tastes pretty good, just expect to shell out a bit of cash. The San Elijo campus is rather hit-or-miss, actually. Some days are amazing and others are lackluster, so keep your options open if you're at that campus.

    Dorm Life

    Non-existant, its a community college.

    Academic Rigor

Mixed bag here. Some professors are from the local universities, and are others belong in universities. The school is surprisingly competitive for professors, and I've had professors from Georgetown, University of San Diego, etc. Some professors will grade stringently on difficult material, and others will be very forgiving, so RateMyProfessor still applies here.

    Tips for prospective students

Registering and enrolling at the school is actually one of the strong points of this school, because it beats out the local community colleges in the region by a great deal. Their SURF enrollment program is much more thought out and centralized than the San Diego Community College Distrtict (SDCCD) system by a good deal. The school is also extremely veteran friendly, having a Veteran Information Center/Lounge that engages in both weekday and weekend activities. If you're not a veteran, don't worry, you're not over-saturated by the veteran community or the programs for vets, as most of us try to just blend into the student body.

    In three sentences

MiraCosta College is a two campus (three if you count the adult education campus) community college that actually beats out the other community colleges in the San Diego county. Not only is the school competitive for professors from nearby universities, but it has beautiful scenery and a competent administration staff. The atmosphere is overall very relaxed and welcoming, which is a major plus for community colleges.

Miracosta has a great view of the ocean next to the Admissions Office. It took me 2 years here to realize it. The weather is always nice and it has plenty of shade and place to sit and relax or do your homework in between classes. The parking isn't bad at all like it was when I attended a different community college, and the atmosphere is all around mellow and quiet.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria food is great. At first I was weary because when I think of cafeteria food, I think of unpleasant food, but they have cooks who will make anything from a burrito, to a burger and it is all very good. There is a lot of room to eat inside and outside.

I now am more driven than ever to keep above a 3.0 and the teachers are always there to help you when you need it, so you can ensure good grades for yourself.

    Tips for prospective students

I would advice students who are thinking about attending this school to come in with a positive attitude and be serious about going to school. When I started school, I didn't want to be there and only went because my parents were making me, which reflected in my grades. I wasted a lot of time withdrawing and failing classes because I didn't know what to take. Although my plan was to be done in two years, it is now my 3rd year and I have gotten my head on straight, had a daughter and want to be successful. I know am in contact with my counselor at all times to make sure I am on the right track and my grades are wonderful. Had I done this when I first started attending the school, I would have been done by now, but it is a lesson learned that I can pass on to you. I can not stress enough that as soon as you enroll, go to your counselor with your educational plan and they will help you make your schedule so you aren't taking the wrong classes. Education is so important and this school is wonderful to go to if you want to further your education.

    In three sentences

This is a prestigious community college who expects the highest quality from their students. The hardworking staff ensures that you will graduate/transfer from Miracosta with a better understanding of each subject and the counseling staff helps you plan when you don't know which direction to take. I have always done online classes, so I don't know a lot about the traditions.

This school offers great financial aid opportunities, fee waivers, and student worker experience. The classes are resonably priced and in such a gorgeous part of California, you really can't go wrong with this school!

    What to do for fun

MiraCosta has two campus locations in Oceanside and San Ellijo. Not only is this conveinient, but it means you are close to a variety of different activites. You can go to the beach, play volleyball, make a bon fire, BBQ, go hiking, surf, paddleboard, boogieboard, shop, visit art galleries, fine dine, visit surf shacks, go to LegoLand, the San Diego Zoo and Safari Park, really the posibilities are endless!

    Food and Dining

MiraCosta does not offer a food or dining plan, although there are lots of restaurants in the area to choose from.

    Dorm Life

MiraCosta does not offer dorms, so I can't answer this.

    Academic Rigor

I really feel like the classes kept me on my toes! They were tough, but not hard to the point that I ever felt lost or behind. The professors have all been wonderful and emailed me back ASAP! That is definitely something that is important with online classes. I really do feel ready to transfer to San Diego State. I feel MiraCosta's curriculum has made me a top competitor.

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely take the time to meet with a counselor. They are extremely helpful and even give you hand outs of what you need to accomplish in your time there in order to transfer to either a UC or a State college. After meeting with counselors at the other schools I have attended I always felt lost and left with more questions than I had walked in with. I felt rushed and not cared about. This was not the case at MiraCosta! They were so helpful and really took the time to make sure I understood everything. All future students should take advantage of the MiraCosta counselors knowledge!

    In three sentences

I have been attending this school online for 3 semesters now. It has been easy to follow, has great class selections, and offers all the classes I need to transfer right into the Recreation Administration program at San Diego State. I have attended 3 other community colleges in the past and this one is definitely the top on my list!

    What to do for fun

As I mentioned before, College Hour is a fun way to socialize with fellow students while enjoying great food and good music. Also, there is always a monthly calendar available online with a list of fun upcoming events to check out. Lastly, there are plenty of great opportunities, clubs, and services available to get involved in the student body and to network with fellow students, so take advantage of them!

    Food and Dining

The campus cafeteria has a pretty great selection of food, which is of good quality. There are plenty of vegetarian options, although I dont believe I can say the same for vegan and gluten intolerance. Everyday, there are cooks whipping up fresh food for the students and theyre always so friendly. Also, there is a weekly event called College Hour, where food is catered to the students for free! There are plenty of options of nice outside dining areas, as well as the spacious cafeteria.

    Dorm Life

Of course, there is no option to live on campus, so its impossible to rate this section.

    Academic Rigor

As with every school, some courses and some professors are tougher than others. Before enrolling, check out ratemyprofessors.com to get a feel for what other students thought about the class and know what youre getting yourself into. Luckily, with the smaller class sizes, the professors are able to give each student a great amount of attention and its not so intimidating to ask for help or clarification. Again, take advantage of the office hours!

    Tips for prospective students

Always show up to class with the necessary reading materials and supplies, especially on the first class session! Dont wait until the first day to find out what youre expected to have with you in class. Usually, the necessary reading materials are updated on each professors SURF page. If not, find their email address in the faculty directory on Blackboard and dont be afraid to just ask them. Take the initiative to personally introduce yourself to each of your professors after the first class session. It will allow them to put a face to your name on their roster. It will also show them that you genuinely care about taking their class and motivate you to do well in their class. In the first week of classes, introduce yourself to a few of your fellow classmates and exchange contact information, so that throughout the semester, you have someone to go to if you have a question about an assignment or miss a class. Dont tie yourself down to sitting in the same seat every single class session! College doesnt have assigned seating, so sit in a different seat every class session. It will help to keep things more fresh and interesting, plus its a great way to have the opportunity to meet a lot of your fellow classmates. Take advantage of the professors office hours. Their one-on-one help will allow them to get a feel for which teaching tactics work best for you and will help you to gain a better understanding and absorb the information. Depending on the professor, their office hours aren't limited to help with things directly relating to the class! Dont be afraid to really open up to your professors, you could find a potential life-long mentor! Lastly, there are free health services that should definitely be taken advantage of and everything is completely confidential.

    In three sentences

Mira Costa Community College is similar to high school in terms of the small campus size, the many familiar faces of fellow students, the smaller class sizes and the close attention that the professors give to the students because of the smaller class sizes. The coolest places to go for off-campus hangouts is Teri Cafe and the Yellow Deli. The Yellow Deli is open 24/5 and has delicious, home-grown food, a coffee lounge, and plenty of places to sit and study.

    Bang for the buck

By attending a community college, I project that I saved between $10,000 and $60,000 a year. Though the cost of units are starting to rise, it is still very reasonable at less than $50 per unit.

    What to do for fun

Get free food and listen to local musicians on Thursdays at College Hour! MiraCosta has fantastic music concerts to attend in a beautiful concert hall and the theater department puts on a variety of musicals and plays. There is even a gallery near the bookstore to see student art or the works of local artists.

    Food and Dining

There is a great selection of food options and most of the menu is made to order. The cost is fairly reasonable, and you get a good portion for your money.

    Dorm Life

Since MiraCosta is a community college, there are no dorms. However, there are great events to attend from workshops to theater nights.

    Academic Rigor

Thanks to MiraCosta College's Honors Scholar Program (HSP) I was academically challenged in all of my honors courses. I loved that there were smaller class sizes and more unique discussion settings to learn the material. I even had the chance to present my original research at UC Irvine in the spring of 2013.

    What to do for fun

When you have some down time, the campus has a state of the art concert hall and theater, both presenting some of the best local talent. In the surrounding areas, a there are two malls, countless shopping districts, and the beach is less than fifteen minutes away (in good traffic).

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria offers a wide selection of varying dishes that have consistently been remarkably delicious. On a more economic note, don't eat there if you are trying to cut down on the weekly food allowance, as the food can be very overpriced.

    Dorm Life

There are no dorms on campus, however there is apartment opportunities in literally every direction from the campus.

    Academic Rigor

This is a community college, so the academics are naturally going to require copious amounts of prep and study time for each individual class. English and mathematics courses especially are quite demanding.

    Tips for prospective students

If there was one thing I wish I had done my first semester, it was to get more involved with the extra curricula's on campus. The more of your life you put into your school, the more rewarding the results.

If you don't mind paying some money for gas, I'd eat off campus if I had the time and money. Otherwise, the food isn't bad. Very friendly chefs. Everything is made fresh in front of you.

Great for all types, young or old, serious or not. Even for someone who is just interested in learning a new skill, it is perfect. The price, the location, everything.

    Bang for the buck

I have paid for everything out of my own pocket without any sort of reimbursement from work or the government. Currently the classes are offered at $42 per unit for California residents. It doesn't get much better than that.

    What to do for fun

The library is nice and uncrowded. My favorite thing to do is to go to the concerts that they put on.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria has a few options, not many. It is not a large cafeteria. I would generally buy my food off-campus.

    Dorm Life

    No on-campus housing available.

    Academic Rigor

It is very relaxed, maybe even too much so. I didn't meet with a counselor until I had already been there for over a year and a half, I wasn't ever contacted by the school to find out if I wanted some help planning. I think this is where they should invest some energy since not every student has someone to give them advice and guide them through the process. Most of the students were focused and grade-driven but it doesn't feel as serious as I imagine a University might.

    Tips for prospective students

Take some music classes, especially Piano class with Ms. Lee or Guitar with Foster. Buy your Redbull off campus and use the money saved to buy a new car. Get your English and Math classes out of the way first or you might end up going here for four years (like me).

    In three sentences

MiraCosta is a place that puts you in control of your future. The atmosphere is very relaxed and the teachers have been wonderful, for the most part. There are an incredible range of topics covered which gives you the freedom to try new things and figure out what you want to study most.

Campus police are friendly and they also have their own news page in the college newspaper with updates.

    Clubs and Activities

Many clubs have field trips and activities that are fun and a great way to make new friends.

Great for these types of students

Beach is 5 minutes away by car, same for the mall. Food within walking range.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Smoke-free campus. Odd sculptures and artwork everywhere you look, all done by past or current students.

    Bang for the buck

They recently implemented ride-share program. Your school ID card gives you savings in movie theaters, restaurants, and even some auto shops and insurance place (there's a card in the office with all the contracts the college made to give the student savings with their card). And the college performances and special events in the theater has $ off for students with ID.

    What to do for fun

Join the clubs, the newspaper, College Hour, international film festival, art shows, concerts, musicals, and dramas. Also, workshops on how to do a resume, transfer universities (with representatives on campus, some have counselors come to campus), and many more!

    Food and Dining

Good menu with chefs that you can ask to make you something special. Reasonably priced and fresh.

    Dorm Life

    No campus housing.

    Academic Rigor

Depending on the professor, but mostly excellent professors with a lot of knowledge ready to teach you all they know.

    Tips for prospective students

Financial aid building is your best friend. The reference librarian is an essay lifesaver. The transfer center knows their stuff and love to answer all your questions. Thursday noon is a College Hour with entertainment and free food!

    In three sentences

Helpful professors and staff, beautiful campus, and an amazing library! The professors are awesome and like to share their experiences with their lectures so it's not only book learning. And good chefs in the cafeteria!

A good police force who cares. You can call them if you need help, and the professors won't leave you by yourself at night if you're nervous.

    Bang for the buck

    Great and affordable!

    What to do for fun

I can't even start. There are games, exercise classes, hanging out with friends, concerts and movies, clubs and club meetings, and the boisterous cafeteria. There's tons of cool places nearby--shopping malls, Legoland, the beach, and the beautiful town of Carlsbad. Even just going on a walk is amazing--the view around the campus is spectacular.

    Food and Dining

Good food, but can never locate the salads, not very healthy, and very overpriced. I always bring my own food. I always carry $7 in case I forget lunch and have to purchase something. Blech.

    Dorm Life

    No dorms, LOLS!

    Academic Rigor

This is a great springboard to greater things--but don't think I mean easy. There are lots of dropouts who can't stand homework, but the homework is manageable if you do it. Also, the locals are happy with their not-so-well-kept secret of this college, because it has some of the best professors in the county, who came here because they wanted to teach more instead of sitting in an office researching in some university.

    Tips for prospective students

Be sure to print out your schedule before you come, and a map of the campus with your classrooms circled. Come to campus before College begins to familiarize yourself with different important locations--the library, the printer, the help desks, the transfer and counseling center, the cafeteria, and of course your classrooms. Ask questions the first day of class and make sure you know how to use Blackboard and Moodle, and make a mental note of where your professor's offices are. They don't bite--the professors here are really encouraging and challenging, and love it when you come to their office hours with questions and a notebook!

    In three sentences

MiraCosta is the best community college in the San Diego area in a whole bunch of proffessional people's opinions. To me, it's home, the kind of home that welcomes and challenges you. MiraCosta College is the perfect springboard socially, academically, and financially to anywhere in life you want to go--online college, brick and mortar, or vocation.

Campus police is there to ensure everyone is safe and if you take night classes you can be escorted to your car if you are scared to walk alone. I highly recommend it.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many different clubs to get involved in and everyone welcomes you in with open arms. It is sometimes hard to make friends in college so clubs are a fun and easy way to get to know people.

    Bang for the buck

At $46 a unit, mira costa is affordable and worthwhile. Financial aid is available to most students and with the BOGW you can have your classes paid for! What a great deal!

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria is excellent. From snacks on the go to full course meals for under $10 you will not be disappointed if you choose to eat on campus.

    Dorm Life

There are no dorms available but there is somewhat affordable housing nearby.

    Academic Rigor

Mira costa isn't an easy college. You must attend class, do your work, study, and strive for excellence always. If you do that you will succeed with ease.

    Tips for prospective students

If you need financial aid, there is plenty available so never hesitate to ask. There are so many classes available you can take a core class for you general Ed and a dance class for fun. Get involved in a club and go to events and you'll make connections that will last a lifetime.

    In three sentences

Mira costa is a community college that prepares you for success at a four year university. There are so many resources there that can help you succeed both inside and outside the classroom. Mira costa is one big family that is ready to invite you in and help you makes your dreams come true.

    Campus Safety

I'm not sure of the frequency with which the campus police publish a report but I've seen a few of them since enrolling here and the number of crimes here is ostensibly insignificant. Mostly skateboarding tickets and minor theft.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Not so much unusual as under-appreciated, our horticulture building seems so deserted most of the time and its absolutely gorgeous over there. Great place to eat lunch and smell the roses when you have down time.

    Bang for the buck

Got to love the ocean view from the cafeteria!

    What to do for fun

Well as I said before, it's a small campus so there isn't a whole lot to be done. It is however located near some strip malls so if you catch a break between classes you are just walking distance from food or fun. I'll throw in the fact that MiraCosta is just a few miles short of the coast and people have been known to surf, swim, and tan between classes if they can drive there and back in time.

    Food and Dining

Next to quality education, MiraCosta seems to specialize in great chow, once again at a great price. Food is made to order so its hot, fresh, and to your satisfaction. For those in a hurry, the guys in the back whip up a steady supply of grab-and-go breakfast burritos all morning and pizza in the afternoon.

    Dorm Life

No housing available for this CC.

    Academic Rigor

While I'm sure it depends on Professors and class types, I will say that mine has felt very fair. I have a steady supply of reading and coursework on top of exams and papers but it is a manageable amount for anybody demonstrating a reasonable work ethic.

    Tips for prospective students

More than anything else I suggest you see a counselor about an ed-plan prior to enrollment. The more time spent dilly-dallying in random courses, the more years you will spend here. Not that you wont enjoy it here, it just occurs to me that the ultimate goal is eventually to get out!

    In three sentences

Some of the best Professors I've ever had have been from MiraCosta and the class sizes give them the opportunity to share their wealth of knowledge in a flexible and personalized way. I feel that the value of my education here more than qualifies the price. That being said, it is quite a popular school and finding the right class each semester can be difficult.

    Campus Safety

They were amazing when it came to campus safety. This year we had a lot of fires, and all the teachers and staff worked together to not only close the school, and make sure everyone was home safe, but rescheduled finals, and kept in close touch during this very uneasy time. Not only that, but when things happened, parents, and students were all notified through voicemail, email, and text, when crimes, or any situation happened on campus.

Great for these types of students

If you live in northern San Diego, want a very relaxed atmosphere, thats close to home. This is your place!

    Bang for the buck

The food is good, and cheap, and all the theater performances are amazing!

    What to do for fun

The school is located near the beach, and has a really nice campus, with lawns, and a lot of places to study outside. They also do 2 plays every year, with multiple dance shows, and a lot of on campus activities throughout the year!

    Food and Dining

the food is really good, and fairly cheap! Their tortilla soup is the best!

    Academic Rigor

speaking to counselors was really hard, because they dont speak to you until you have taken placement tests, and give you a bit of a run around sometimes.

    Tips for prospective students

If you're trying to figure out what to do without the stress of being told what to do, this is a good place. They go out of your way to help you succeed, and you don't get that at many community colleges.

    In three sentences

Mira Costa is a convient school, with nice class sizes and passionate teachers. I enjoy Mira Costa mainly for that reason because every teacher I have had is really passionate about what they do. They arent just there for the money, they love what they do, and want to pass it on to other people.

    What to do for fun

Join a club! Come to events on campus. Go to the school theatre and watch the actor students perform beautiful plays and musicals. We are also located near the beach so head on over for a swim!

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria food isn't too bad. Nothing really negative to say about it. They have a variety of options for food and drinks which is good. Vending machines offer healthy snacks and we even have a coffee vending machine.

    Dorm Life

MiraCosta doesn't have dorms, but there are nice apartments and houses that students can rent. The best thing about it is that these places are either next to or near campus.

    Academic Rigor

The teachers understand that many students have part time jobs, full time jobs or are parents with kids. All students push to do their best in class even with their busy lives. Paying attention to lectures, doing extra credit when given the opportunity, studying, going to tutoring, and doing study guides will help pass any class. And many of the teachers are fair, helpful and always want their students to pass. Classes can get a little harder during summer courses, but it's doable.

    Tips for prospective students

Take advantage of all their services. Don't be afraid to ask for help and visit your counselor as often as you can. They will help guide you to the path right for you. The best way to make friends is to join clubs and find those who share the same interest as you.

    In three sentences

They provide great services like, the transfer center, career center, tutoring center, counseling, library, and financial aid. It's a great environment with a wonderful staff and offers students many opportunities in life.
