Categories Comments Great for these types of students I went there thinking I knew what I wanted to do, but ended up changing. This is a good undecided major school along with those who aren't positive. The business school and other departments are also top notch!
Tips for prospective students This is a perfect school for anyone looking for a school with a bunch of FRIENDLY people, but yet a compact academic side of campus. Especially as an undergraduate student, the classes are manageable, small (no more than 200 EVER...mostly smaller than 75), and definitely a bang for the buck!

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Anyone wanting to go to a university in a fairly large town but not be overwhelmed by a large campus.
Tips for prospective students Come check out the campus and see if it is a place you can call home for awhile.
Bang for the buck I am receiving the education I need for the future. The campus has a tram we can ride to downtown which saves gas money.
Am enjoying being here There are lots of things to do on campus and around town.
Am learning a lot I have learned a lot about my physical body and nutrition in our PE Class and about the world economy in my Economics class. Textiles has been interesting to see the different kinds of material that clothes can be made from. Art has been a learning process with the different mediums we used this sememster.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Small town kids trying to get into a bigger city, but not wanting St. Louis. Art majors of all types. And kids trying to get away from the big city but not wanting to be in the middle of nowhere.
Tips for prospective students Enjoy the dorm life, make those lasting friendships, and find your niche. There's always something to do, the trick is knowing what is a good idea to do.
Bang for the buck Inexpensive, but you won't get much aid if your GPA and ACT scores aren't up to snuff, regardless of financial need, though this the situation with most colleges.
Am enjoying being here There's always plenty to do and the Campus is full of freindly people. The town itself is the perfect intersection of small town charm and city life.
Am learning a lot Varied courses for those wishing to apply themselves at different levels.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students MSU is great for students that want to live in a large town, but not be overwhelmed. There is a small-town feel that is easy to get around. There are many majors available and the agriculture department is really great.
Tips for prospective students Have fun, but be diligent in your studies. Be involved on campus. Join a fraternity or sorority; or at least some form of an organization. I did and do not regret it at all.
Bang for the buck MSU provides a great college experience at affordable prices. There are scholarships offered and it is easy to apply. The classroom size is really great because they are not very big. There is a great instructor-student relationship that can be formed.
Am enjoying being here The campus at Missouri State University- Springfield is really easy to get around. By the few days I was here, I could find things very easily and have no trouble. The thing I love about our campus the most is the fact that it does not take a long time to get across campus.
Am learning a lot The instructors are great. The instructors I have are all willing to help outside of class, if you ask them. Most provide a great learning environment and teach classes in an intelligent manner.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Almost anyone, they have a lot of different majors, as well as pre-vet and pre-engineering courses. The agriculture department is excellent, as well as the music department. They also offer a variety of science class, and have a nursing program, just to list a few of the majors.
Tips for prospective students Missouri State University is a really good college, with opportunities for almost everyone. They have many different types of clubs, and many chances to get involved. They offer a wide variety of classes, and lots of different majors.

Categories Comments Am enjoying being here Missouri State University is located in Springfield, Missouri, the 3rd largest city in the state. I come from a small town, so going to school in Springfield is great! It has all the perks of a city, with the feel of small town. At MSU, there are always events and activities that I can get involved in on campus. It is a great campus and has a lot of great students. I have made a lot of new friends and I always have a lot of fun at college.
Am learning a lot The classes at Missouri State are challenging enough to keep me learning, but manageable. I do not feel discouraged when I am challenged in class, but rather ready to learn more. The required class, PED 100, the class everyone expects to be a breeze, is surprisingly one of the most challenging. But I put in the hours studying for this class, along with all of my others, and I feel like I have learned a great deal from all of my classes during my first semester at Missouri State.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students All students, we have many international students and local. We are a very diverse student body.
Tips for prospective students Get a great advisor! There are so many but, they can really help you with financial aid and scheduling classes. (mine even has a recliner in their office you can use if your having a bad day!)
Bang for the buck When I was deciding on which school I wanted to go to I found that MSU offers tons of scholarships. So even though it is a four year university you can pay your own way without student loans. Many of our departments have departmental scholarships too, so you aren't out there by yourself.
Am enjoying being here At MSU you create another family. There are over 300 different organizations you can choose from, and if the one you want isn't there you can create your own. Between organizations, my sorority, and basketball games there is never a dull moment.
Am learning a lot Every professor is willing to help. Even when I did have a problem with a teacher I went to my advisor and the problem was cleared up that day! Everyone wants you to succeed.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Music Students...MSU has the second best Music Program in the state. Business Students Athletes Small town students wanting to go to a bigger city but not a HUGE college
Tips for prospective students If you know what you want to major in, schedule a meeting with someone from that department. I had a meeting with someone from the Music Department and he was hilarious. He also ended up being my accompanist for my audition. Don't be scared to talk to the teachers. Also, take a tour. Missouri State was a second choice and after I toured it, I loved it more than my first choice.
Bang for the buck Sure it could be a little cheaper but what 4 year college is cheap. Compared to other schools in the state, Missouri State is pretty low price.
Will enjoy being here Their student activities council has at least one activity almost every day and thats not even counting the resident hall activities. Also the campus is big but its all close together. It was made for a student who wanted to live in a bigger city but a smaller campus that is still a pretty decent size.

Categories Comments Greek Life Greek Life is Greek Life. You don't have to be involved; most people aren't. The people that are really enjoy it, but it's not for everyone. The Greeks are generally a very nice group of people.
Bang for the buck Your first year you are completely ripped off; you pay for mediocre dorms and food that is hardly edible. But after you get out of the dorms it's way more affordable.
What to do for fun Downtown is the obvious choice. You can also go thrifting, go to First Fridays (an art walk) or go see a movie in the Student Union. There's a lot to do, don't worry about being bored.
Food and Dining Dorm food = toxic waste. We have a Papa Johns/Subway/Starbucks/ChicFilA and we're supposedly getting a Panda Express in the Student Union. Those are (obviously) delicious, but don't make up for the absolute trash that they serve in the dining halls.
Dorm Life Get out of the dorms as fast as you can!
Academic Rigor It really depends on the class and who your teacher is.
Tips for prospective students Become involved and focus on your grades; don't skip class!
In three sentences The campus is small and sweet - easy to navigate! The classes are interesting. The professors are friendly and easy to approach!

Categories Comments Great for these types of students People who like busy, active, positive atmospheres!
Tips for prospective students If you are out of state, dont underestimate the state of Missouri, I did and I was wrong. My advice: dont go to a college just for the scholarship, make sure it's where you want to be! Also, dont feel pressured to go greek.
Bang for the buck I am out of state and even without my scholarship it is almost cheaper for me to go here. Dorms are a little over priced however.
Am enjoying being here The campus is awesome and there is always something going on! You meet alot of people between classes and living in the dorms first year.
Am learning a lot Classes are what you make them, if you actually go you will feel like you are learning alot. First year gen ed requirements are a drag but after that they get better once you get into classes that mean something to you.

Tips for prospective students Study hard, go to class, prepare for essays and tests.
Bang for the buck It's a fairly cheap price for a great experience and college life.
Will enjoy being here The people are great and there's is a lot to do around the campus as well as in the town of Springfield.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students This is a great college for people who want a great education for less than many other colleges. The enrollment is increasing, but not at an astronomical rate, so it will appeal to those who like medium-sized school. Also, if you're into clubs, there is a great orientation program here at the beginning so you can see what clubs/activities we have.
Tips for prospective students Get a good counselor, and don't be afraid to talk with your professors. If you have any scheduling issues be sure to talk to the department secretaries/professors who are teaching the class. Also, talk with the Financial Aid department, the lady I went to when I transferred there was great, and she went out of her way to help me get a scholarship.
Bang for the buck I would say that all of the classes I've had were pretty good. I haven't had any absolutely horrible courses. The professors are smart and helpful, and the facilities are nice. There is going to be a brand new fitness center this fall, which was the one facility I wasn't all that excited about. They are also renovating a majority of the dorms, so those are going to be better as well.
Am enjoying being here I like how friendly the students all are here. It's not a super-huge named school (I transferred in from Penn State,) but the environment is much more friendly. The only downside is that a lot of people tend to go home for the weekend. It's not the majority, but it is a large enough chunk to notice. The downside I've had here is that there are sometimes struggles within the departments with class scheduling. Due to the cruddy economy, several times classes are dropped due to low enrollment, and that can be rough if it's a pre-req for your program. It can be worked through, it's just inconvenient.
Am learning a lot The professors I've had here have been great (with maybe one exception.) All of them have been really interested in having their students succeed, and most of them will provide extra time to meet up (outside of office hours.)

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Anyone willing to LEARN and wanting to have a great time doing so!
Tips for prospective students Come to college with an open-mind. You're going to meet people who are a lot like you, and some who are the extreme opposite. Having an open-mind will set you up to meet some great people that you'd never otherwise gotten to meet.
Bang for the buck If you want a quality education that doesn't suck your pockets dry, then Missouri State is the perfect university for you.
Am enjoying being here Often times you hear about those schools where there is nothing happening on campus, well Missouri State is not one of those schools! One of the reasons I enjoy being here is that there is never a dull moment because of the constant on-campus activities being thrown by the Student Activities Council, a student run activities board. From weekly movies, to free concerts there is something for every student to partake in.
Am learning a lot Missouri State offers a broad spectrum of classes, ranging from small group classes to large lectures. The instructors and the environment make learning a breeze! Just being on campus will teach you more about yourself, and being in the classroom will open your eyes to great new things.

Greek Life Greek life is a large part of this campus. They are constantly participating in activities and holding events.
Clubs and Activities There is almost anything you can think of.
Great for these types of students Any, there is a very diverse population.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus People have a thing with the Taco Bell right off campus. It is always packed late at night.
Bang for the buck This school is not cheap, but it is also not super expensive. The campus offers a lot of free activities to take advantage of making your money more worth it.
What to do for fun You can join fraterinity/sorority life. You can join a club. You can attend sporting events or campus activities.
Food and Dining Some meals are great and others are not good at all.
Dorm Life The dorms are decent and there is always something going on in each dorm.
Academic Rigor The majority of my teachers have expected good quality work, but I have not had many teachers that are extremely difficult.
Tips for prospective students As an incoming freshmen you will be given a lot of information about almost everything at the school from majors to various clubs. If you are a transfer student make sure you set up a meeting with an advisor even if you are told you dont have to.
In three sentences The school offers a lot of variety for majors and extracurricular activity. The school provides a lot of help for incoming freshmen. The school lacks pride.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Downtown is near, and each month there is an artwalk - local artists display their work in businesses downtown.
Food and Dining The university is very close to downtown and there are many great restaurants around. The campus also has plenty of food places to choose from.
Dorm Life The dorms are expensive and quite restrictive.
Academic Rigor Some of the professors are really great and respectable... Others are a little behind in their field.
Tips for prospective students This is not a big school; it will be easy to find and make friends here.
In three sentences This university is great for students seeking a mixture between a small town and a big city. The accommodations on campus are great; modern buildings and resources are everywhere. I have really enjoyed my experience here.

Categories Comments Will enjoy being here I am going to be in Kentwood Hall and I'm excited to move in! It's going to be in Downtown and I love their lobby. The school also offers many organizations for students to join and get involved. I will also enjoy being in MSU because I love the weather in Springfield.
Will learn a lot Most of my classes as a freshman are small. I like small classes cause it's easier for me to concentrate and it gives the professor to have more attention to his/her students.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students who want to major in business or teaching would find MSU a great school. Students who are undecided on their major but know they want to attend college would be quite happy at MSU. They have a department for helping students find a major of interest that I have heard is quite helpful.
Tips for prospective students MSU isn't a bad school. I would not recommend it for students who like to push themselves academically or for those who are intense about their education. The business school and teaching schools I have heard are quite great as are many of their other programs. The problem is getting into them. The general education requirements are extensive. I wouldn't be able to get into my major (physics) until my junior year unless I took summer school. The ged eds are a huge factor to consider before attending MSU.
Bang for the buck The education is quite affordable, my main reason for attending. But as the saying goes, You get what you pay for. For this, I am transferring.
Am enjoying being here The people on campus and around the area are friendly. Making friends is quite easy. There are many activities and organizations that students can become involved in. If you aren't into the party scene you may find that finding things to do can be a drag. I am from the area of Springfield; it's a nice place, but that's about it. There isn't too much to do unless you like going to parties.
Am learning a lot I am not learning a great deal here at Missouri State. I was a student who always pushed themselves in high school to do the best at everything. Course work at Missouri State is no different from high school. I expected college to give me a challenge. MSU does not provide this.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Very safe! I have never felt uncomfortable at all.
Greek Life So glad that I went Greek! I have built relationships that will last a lifetime, will serve me in my career, and have had the opportunity for service and leadership. Best decision I ever made.
Clubs and Activities So many to choose from!! There's something for everyone.
Great for these types of students You want a great education, but you also want a great experience.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus So many activities! Too many, sometimes.
Bang for the buck Reasonable, considering the price of a college education these days.
What to do for fun There are so many things to do in Springfield! Join an organization: Greek, religious, interest oriented, etc. It's a great way to make life long friends.
Food and Dining Not Mom's, but it kept me alive.
Dorm Life I lived in Hutchens my freshman year, and loved it!
Academic Rigor Classes are challenging, but professors are helpful and available.
Tips for prospective students Be sure to attend SOAR. And bring your parents! Use the resources available to you.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Its very safe here. We have safety polls all over campus that connects to the police sub station that we have.
What to do for fun We just got a new rec center and i have to say it is the best thing on campus. We also have a lot of programs and activites.
Food and Dining The food is decent. The thing i wish is for more variety.
Dorm Life I love my dorm life. I came here with my best friend and we room together with each other and two other girls, and we live in a suite. I made the greatest two friends of my life time.
Academic Rigor Make sure that you start reading now, especially if you are a high school student coming to college for the first time. It is a lot of reading however if you stay with it it will be easier. Also get to know your teachers and professors, they are here to make sure you succeed so use them, they love to help.
Tips for prospective students This is an exciting time in your life, start setting up college visits. Down here we have SOAR and its pre registration, this was the single best thing down at MSU.
In three sentences This is a great school that focuses on Public Affairs. Everyone is very welcoming here and you do not have to be afraid to be yourself.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is very safe. As far as I know, there haven't been any safety issues. Plus, the university pays police officers to patrol campus and make sure nothing is happening that shouldn't be. I always feel very safe here.
Greek Life I am not affiliated with any of the Greek organizations.
Clubs and Activities I am not in any clubs and have not been involved in any activities yet, but I soon plan to be. From what I have heard and seen, they are a lot of fun and are a great way to meet new people.
Great for these types of students This university is great for virtually every type of student. Whether you are a traditional or non-traditional student, whether or not you are a transfer student, if you have any type of disabilities, if you need financial aid, anything, it doesn't matter. There are places to get the help you want and need right here on campus.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus As far as I am aware of, there aren't any unusual traditions or locations on campus. It's just your normal university setting, with lots to see and do.
What to do for fun There are a lot of ways to have fun on campus. There are always sporting events (depending on the season and weather). There are also free movies, game nights, bowling nights, karaoke and comedy nights, and so many others.
Food and Dining I have only eaten here a few times. But each of those times the food was very good. And, it was very reasonably priced.
Dorm Life I do not live in the dorms, so I don't know how they are. But from what I have heard, it is great.
Tips for prospective students I highly recommend this university. But you must be prepared to work and study hard. It's not going to be easy, but it is very well worth it.
In three sentences This university is very large, with approximately 23,000 students. But the instructors, students, and staff are all great, friendly people. Everybody is really nice and will help you if you get lost or just need help on an assignment.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students They are one of the few University's in Missouri that provide an Exercise Science bachelor degree and then a Doctorate in Physical Therapy.
Bang for the buck I have compared tuition costs at several schools and MSU is very competitive. I just hope I qualify for some of there automatic scholarships that are offered!
Will enjoy being here I was very impressed with my campus tour and meeting with one of the Doctors in the Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation Department. She answered all of my questions and didn't make me feel rushed, and made me feel very comfortable talking with her.

Tips for prospective students Be active on campus.
Bang for the buck Other than book buybacks in some cases and some problems in the financial aid office, everything seems to run smoothly. Some things cost a good amount of money though.
Am enjoying being here Most of the people active on campus are good people. There are odd events that occur that are iffy but mostly its a great college. We need diversity though.
Am learning a lot The teachers I have had are well informed and very active in their teaching methods.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Always police and safety roaming about. We also offer light and telephones at different areas with a security button for security escorts. There's also a telephone number to call if you want to plan ahead and arrange an escort from a car to night class or vice versa.
Greek Life I'm not a member, but the people I know who are involved agree that they love it.
Clubs and Activities There is always something going on because of the various clubs having different events. From sports to theatre to zombie hunting.
Great for these types of students Any and all. We've got diversity across the board.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The Meyer Library Fountain is great to read or study on (outside the library). There's also a network of tunnels under the university that lots of people try to find, but no one has found the entrance yet.
Bang for the buck In-state tuition is very cheap, out-of-state is decent. I'm an out-of-state student whose other in-state options were more expensive than the out-of-state at MSU.
What to do for fun There are always fun games and social gatherings going on in the dormitories. There's also athletic events to attend, greek life to join, and intramural sports to play. The student activities council hosts movie nights twice a week in the union, as well as zombie v human games, and there's always something going on off-campus since campus is barely a 10-minute walk from downtown.
Food and Dining Decent food. Lots of options in the dining centers. The student union has great restaurants and drink options. Most students opt to eat at the union at least two or three times a week.
Dorm Life I lived in a suite in Hammons, it wasn't awesome going from having my own room to living with four other girls, but they are friends of mine now and it wasn't awful living in such close quarters with them. Only 3 stars because you will always hear the people above you if they get noisy.
Academic Rigor Most of the courses are hard, especially the pre-professional ones. Make sure you talk with your professor if you don't understand something. There's also SI, which is additional help for the harder classes, and the Bear CLAW (in the library) offers free tutors in all subjects.
Tips for prospective students Tour the campus, our ambassadors are knowledgeable and awesome. Sit in on a class or two of interest to get a feel for the settings. And definitely attend a basketball game.
In three sentences Great campus, students, and professors. Campus is big, but small enough to walk from one side to the other in about 20 minutes. The shuttles run regularly around every 3 or so minutes if you don't like walking.

Categories Comments Campus Safety super safe, lots of lights and safe walk program. also the only campus to have police on campus.
Clubs and Activities everything you can imagine, except crew...
Great for these types of students language, political science, layed back, big school with a small school feel and very cost effective
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus there is a statue of a bear that looks like its pooping in the middle of campus.
What to do for fun tuns of clubs and inter-murals. they just built a rec center. really close to shopping
Food and Dining stay away from blaire- shannon
Dorm Life for dorms they're great.
Academic Rigor it can be easy or hard depending on what you make of it and the classes you take.
Tips for prospective students take ap courses whether you choose to go here or any other institution it will save you a lot of money. it is really easy to transfer if you don't like a school.
In three sentences i love it here. the people and professors are friendly and understanding. the campus is really central.

Categories Comments Campus Safety campus is a very safe. it is well lit and there is always security on campus be it walking or driving. it is a completely safe environment. now, not to say that there isn't the occasional bump in the road, but that is going to happen everywhere you go.
Greek Life as far as greek like goes, there is something for everyone. they each have a reputation and almost every fraternity or sorority is great. a few examples are some of the bigger/main frats and sororities on campus. the alpha chi omegas are girls that are musically engaged and know as the classy girls on campus. they are brothers with the far fiji, known as the gentlemen on campus. they are the delta zetas; however, they do not have the best reputation. sadly, they are known as the easy dz's. sisters to the sig eps who is probably the biggest party frat on campus. there is also alpha delta pi. these girls are a mix of everyone. they are one of the biggest and nicest sororities on campus, with over 150 girls. there are also others like akl, tke, sigma kappa, kappa sigma, etc. they are all great opportunities for everyone. keep in mind that they are generally pretty expensive.
Clubs and Activities i am not much for clubs. i have been to all the ones that are downtown and they just aren't my cup of tea. i am from a small town and there are a couple that i like to go to, like midnight rodeo or the electric cowboy, but i personally am not much of a clubber. the atmosphere is not particularly for me; but, if you like to club, the downtown is the place for you. there are many clubs that play current pop, rap, rock, etc and most students go down there to club. there are various clubs throughout springfield, but college night is definitely thursdays.
Great for these types of students -dedicated -committed -willing to persevere -engaged -involved -have fun
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus there are a variety of traditions here on campus, including some locations that are very unusual; however, you have to come to missouri state to figure that out!
Bang for the buck overall, missouri state is a great place. it is in a safe area and there is always a lot going on. the campus is great because it is huge but close together. all the academic buildings, with the exception of specialty buildings are all together so you can make it from class to class in less than 15 minutes. i've had some good professors as well as some bad ones, but you will find those anywhere. like i said earlier, most all of my professors have been top notch. i don't mean easy when i say that. the classes are very tough. college is something you have to be mentally ready for, especially coming here because the education level is high, as well as the expectations.
What to do for fun in springfield, mo there is a lot things to do. there are many colleges in springfield so it is easy to make things happen. there are tons of clubs, parties, bowling alleys, restaurants, malls, etc. but make sure to maintain a balance between fun and education because it is really easy to get wrapped up in the college experience and not the education aspect of being here on campus. and it is really easy to waste your money if you aren't committed. and you don't want to start off bad your first semester.
Food and Dining food is just okay. there are quite a few options, but they are the same everyday. there isn't much of a variety and the taste isn't excellent.
Dorm Life the dorms are a great way to meet people and get involved on campus. there is always something going on in each dorm, regardless of which one you are in. aside from that, i am in a community style dorm room and as far as cleanliness goes, it isn't bad at all. it takes awhile to get used to sometimes but it is not bad at all. it is actually cleaner than some of my friends who actually have to clean their bathrooms themselves. however, the opposite sex can not go into the bathroom so that sometimes causes a hassle when people are hanging out in one room and the boys can't go to the bathroom because it's a girls floor, or vice versa.
Academic Rigor missouri state university is the only campus in missouri that is a public affairs college. that means that we as a university have promote ethical leadership, community engagement, etc. for our students. each course you take will somehow be incorporated with the missouri state public affairs mission. the courses here are hard, they aren't in any way a cake walk, but they are worth it. the education is incredible because the instructors are top notch.
Tips for prospective students make sure you try your hardest to be successful in high school. also, if you have to work in college, make sure you work in high school. it is really important to learn how to balance work and school and college takes up just as much time as high school does. pay attention in high school and learn the best way for you to study in each subject or course. learning the best way that you as an individual learn each subject will be very effective.
In three sentences missouri state is a great campus. i'd give it a seven out of ten on a scale. i think some improvements could be made; however, i love it on campus here.

Categories Comments Campus Safety another benefit of the small campus, you're never out alone for very long, everything is well lit at night, and you can call and have the campus police escort you wherever you might need to go if you're not comfortable walking alone.
Food and Dining one of the benefits of the small campus is that nothing is too far away from the dining halls, and it's decent food (for being a cafeteria). the downside is that the dining halls close fairly early (7pm and 730pm), but you can always go right next door to the student union and get fast food with your bearfare points.
Dorm Life your dorm experience all depends on which dorm you choose. my own experience wasn't very good, it just seemed like everyone on my floor had moved in with their best friend from high school and it was very isolated, however on other floors/dorms here the hall is like a huge family and it's a lot of fun. just remember that if you are unhappy in your dorm, your room, or your floor, you can always switch at semester and live somewhere that suits you better.
Academic Rigor i honestly don't feel that msu sets very high standards for their students; my high school was more rigorous than my classes here. now that may change when you get into upper-level courses, but for right now it seems like not much is expected of us.

Categories Comments Campus Safety police patrol the well-lit campus 24-7.
Greek Life almost constant events.
Clubs and Activities there are not very many and they are not advertised well at all. the ones that exist are really fun, though.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus it's not really on campus, but potter's house (which is across the street) it the best place to hang out with friends.
Bang for the buck th school is rather cheap for all of the many types of classes offered.
What to do for fun near the campus is a small coffee shop called potter's house. everyone goes there if they need something to do. also, the school likes to bring famous comedians, speakers, and even broadway shows.
Food and Dining the food is getting better with each semester. make sure to bookmark the dining services website so you know which hall has the best food.
Dorm Life as long as you have the luck of getting a good roommate, you will be just fine. otherwise, room changes aren't that hard.
Academic Rigor professors all love their jobs and do what they can to help you.
Tips for prospective students missouri state university is a relatively cheap and great school. i recommend it.
In three sentences the campus is always clean and new buildings are always being added. there are a great number of international students here and it's fun to learn from them. staff are never grouchy when contacted.

Categories Comments Food and Dining the dining hall food is the most diverse and is always open, but the psu has better name brand places.
Dorm Life blair-shannon is the best dorm by far. it is centrally located, so nothing is too far of a walk. it also has the most number of roommates to get to know.
Academic Rigor the classes are hard, but you still have time to have a social life and experience what the campus has to offer.
Tips for prospective students you don't need to have a major decided before you come here. missouri state has more majors than any other school in missouri, so you will be able to find what you like.
In three sentences missouri state has a variety of different majors and minors to select from. i have experienced more diversity here than at any other school. faculty are very helpful whenever needed to be.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck you truly get everything you pay for considering that it is one of the cheapest university in missouri.
What to do for fun oh gosh where do i start, there is always and i mean always activites to do on campus. there is free bowling/pool/table tennis on friday nights on campus. a lot of people enjoy going downtown for some amazing food and clubbing.
Food and Dining the food can honestly be better, being a vegetarian it get's tiring having the same stuff over and over again.
Dorm Life i honestly love living on campus, i would say if you plan on staying here choose freddy! it's in the center of everything and everybody is super nice.
Academic Rigor every professor that i have has so far has always been welcoming, they want you to succeed, not just academic wise but in everything else.
Tips for prospective students i can honestly say that going to college is nothing like high school. i've learned from that in my second semester, but once you actually know what's going on you get the hang of it!
In three sentences it's not a small campus but it's not a large campus. everything is in walking distance. it's super welcoming.

Academic Rigor The classes are not too bad, although I haven't taken any math or science classes. You just need to attend class and study!
Tips for prospective students Take advantage of your professors office hours, your counselors office on campus, and keep in contact with your advisor often.
In three sentences The school is a perfect size, not too big and not too small. There are a lot of opportunities for involvement on campus. The staff and educators are very knowledgeable and experienced in their field.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I have only been here in the summer at dance camp. I never had any issues.
Bang for the buck Missouri State has reasonable tuition and Springfield has lots of free entertainment.
What to do for fun Lot of coffee shops are nearby the college and it is blocks from the downtown area. Buses provide transportation to the happening places so you don't have to drive.
Tips for prospective students My tip for prospective students is to apply early. There are a limited amount of scholarships available early on that you can receive if you apply before January of the year you plan to attend.
In three sentences Missouri State has been very supportive. Current students call and check on you to see if you have any questions or need any help. The process to enroll is easy to understand.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Very secure. I never felt unsettled.
Greek Life I was an athlete so I can't really comment. They were definitely well known and present throughout campus, but not overwhelming.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There really aren't any that I can think of. Try to jump in the fountain at least once!
Bang for the buck It's very cost friendly. There are many college-friendly coupons and places that give discounts.
What to do for fun There are many different options. There are over 200 extracurricular activities as well as a downtown area that contains every different type of bar/club you could imagine.
Tips for prospective students Be outgoing and friendly. Don't be afraid to be yourself, step out of your comfort zone, and experience things you never have before. Explore as much as you can and commit to at lesat one activity that you're very passionate about.
In three sentences Missouri State was one of the best, most educational experiences of my life. It provided diverse opportunity, academically, socially, and extracurricularly. Overall, I would highly recommend it.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Downtown Springfield has a few bars and clubs that a lot of the students like to hang out at to catch a break from studying. The Battlefield mall is very well kept and has a lot of good stores. There is also a lot of good restaurants around, Macaroni Grill, Buffalo Wild Wings, etc.
Food and Dining Towards the end of the semester the food got repetitive and I got tired of it. I loved the breakfast options, especially at Garst. There was also salads available from lunch to whenever which is a plus when you're trying to eat healthy.
Dorm Life Dorm life can get old towards the end of the semester but that goes for just about anything. Living in the dorms is very convenient, you never have to get up early to go to classes. The dining halls are also located right next to the dorms so food is only a few steps away.
Academic Rigor While some classes may seem impossible before its even met, the professors are very flexible and love to work with students. The more questions the students ask, the more beneficial the class time is.
Tips for prospective students It's always good to check online and see how certain professors are rated. I've picked many of my classes based on how the professor's were rated. Also make sure to plan out different schedules in case you cannot get into a specific class.
In three sentences Missouri State University is a great place to go to college! The campus is beautiful during the fall semester. The number of students is a good medium to where you can run into people you know some days, and others you won't.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I feel safe on my campus. The Residence Halls lock their doors at 7 pm, requiring an access card from residents at that time. They also ID residents after 10 pm. There are security phones indicated by a blue light located around campus so that you may instantly be connected with campus security should you be out and about and discover the need for assistance. One should always be smart about traveling across campus at night, of course, but Missouri State is a great place to be if you want to feel safe.
Greek Life Greek life is an essential part of Missouri State. We have several social fraternities and sororities, which have very high standings. There are also many professional, honors, and service fraternities. I myself joined a professional fraternity and got the best of all of these combined. Greek life dominates sporting events like homecoming in the fall, and they have the Greek Week games in the spring. I definitely reccomend looking into Greek Life.
Clubs and Activities The clubs abound here at MSU. If there isn't a club that you wish to join, and you and four of your friends have an idea for a club, you can just march on down to the Office of Student Engagement and start your own club! We have everything from Academic clubs, to Spectrum, the LGBTQ club. There are tons of activities like trips and exercise classes, and we're even finishing up our recreation center which will house a pool, a rock wall, and I even hear a zip line is involved!
Great for these types of students I think most people can find a place to call home at Missouri State, whether it be in the music scene, the sports programs, or what have you. We even have a Price is Right Club.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Potter's House, loving known as PoHo by locals, is a little coffee house right across the street from campus. It's a nonprofit place that's been there for around 10 years. The employees are all volunteers, and it's a Christian based group. However, that has nothing to do with their coffee. Or their awesome teas. And smoothies! And oreo concrete! There's a place for everyone at PoHo, and you won't break the bank. They have live music on the weekends too!
Bang for the buck I think the package experience is totally worth the cost. I averaged $20,000 this year for school plus living expenses, etc. I love the place, i love the education, and most of all, I love the people.
What to do for fun There's so much to do on and around campus! Res Life organizes a lot of get-togethers in the residence halls with a lot of fun activities from movies to concerts to tye-dying and pumpkin carving. The Student Activities council organizes free and cheap concerts on campus, as well as weekly movie nights in the student union. There are tons of sporting events to attend, as well as student plays and concerts. Springfield is full of restaurants, bars, and clubs for those who enjoy that night life scene. There are plenty of movie theaters, shopping venues, and even some parks! It's never boring, and a lot of things are open 24 hours. There's always something to do at MSU.
Food and Dining The dining halls usually have a pretty decent selection, but cooking for thousands of people every day probably lends to cutting some corners. The dining hall workers do seem to work hard, I just don't absolutely *love* the food all the time. Sometimes, it's great. And you always have the cereal bar to fall back on if need be! I'll be eating in the dining halls again next year. They aren't terrible, they just aren't great either.
Dorm Life I had a great experience in the residence halls. I lived in Blair-Shannon, right in the center of campus, and right next to the student union and the on campus clinic. There was also a dining hall in my building, which made those snowy days when class got cancelled wonderful! The rooms are all different depending on your building, but none are so small as to not be liveable. I ended up loving all of my roomies, who were randomly picked. It's sort of the luck of the draw. I'm living in upperclassmen campus apartments next year, with my roommate from this year.
Academic Rigor I won't say college is easy--you work for your grades. But, throughout my experiences so far, it's not so difficult that you can't have a social life AND sleep. I have all three! But if you aren't afraid to spend some serious time in the library when you need to, then you'll be fine!
Tips for prospective students Apply soon! Many of the school scholarships are awarded by December. Be prepared to get involved, on campus and in the community. We're a Public Affairs University, so community service is a must for most, and campus life is purely a blast. You make friends through joining clubs and organizations, and we have a lot of them. Find your niche and jump right in!
In three sentences Missouri State has a beautiful, clean, safe campus that is full of wonderful activity. The teachers (that I have experienced so far) are excellent, because they care about you. Residence Hall Life (aka Res Life) is convenient, but a tad bit costly; the worthieness of the cost depends on how much you value convenience.

Tips for prospective students If you are taking any classes that offer supplemental instruction, attend as many of them as you can. They are usually very helpful.
In three sentences Missouri State has some great instructors. Their financial aid department is extremely helpful. They also have plenty of extracurricular activities to participate in.

Categories Comments Campus Safety You can always see a campus security car driving around campus, making the rounds. They're really strict about parking, so don't park in a lot that you don't have a pass for. Also, they provide escorts for people who are uncomfortable walking alone at night.
What to do for fun The SAC always has fun programs going on. There's also a great place called Potter's House that's right across the street from Wells House. It's a kind of coffeehouse atmosphere; you can go with your friends, order an oreo mudslide, and play games as long as you want.
Food and Dining The dining halls are excellent. Blair-Shannon is located more centrally, so a lot more people go there. If you want to avoid really long lines, Garst is probably better; since it's farther away, less people go there.
Dorm Life Dorm life at Missouri State is awesome. The RAs are really friendly, and always willing to help. Definitely get to know the people on your floor. They'll be you first friends. If you can, go to the building programs.
Academic Rigor Academics are very important at this school, and the teachers will challenge you. But a lot of teachers offer study guides, extra credit, and other academic tools to help you along. If you go to your classes, ask questions when you need to, and get to know your professor, it is possible to make great grades.
Tips for prospective students If you're in the dorms, definitely get to know your RA, and go to programs in your building. They may be cheesy, but it's a great way to meet new people. Make sure you have a good pair of rain boots, because when it rains in Springfield, it pours.
In three sentences The campus is located in the heart of Springfield, so there are a lot of great places to hang out off campus. There are about 20,000 students on campus, and there is always an opportunity to meet someone new and expand your horizons. Tuition is relatively cheap, and there are lots of scholarships and financial aid available.

Categories Comments Campus Safety For the most part campus police are always riding around but just to be safe you should always travel with a partner at night.
Greek Life Greek Life is Great! So many Sororities and Fraternities
Clubs and Activities Too many to name but there is a club and or activity that's for any and every student.
Bang for the buck Cheap!
What to do for fun Attend SAC events. They are free and fun!
Food and Dining Could be better, most people enjoy it but I'm not a big fan of the Dinning Halls. You can apply for Bear Bucks which are now called Boomer Bucks and get the good food like Subway, Chick-fil-a, Panda Express and Papa Johns. Delicious!
Dorm Life All depends on where you stay of course the most expensive ones will be the nicest but there aresome cheaper ones that are just as good such as Wells House.
Academic Rigor Academically this school is on a high level. The Deans make sure your on the right track and when you are off they do everything in their will to get you back on by applying campus resources to you.
Tips for prospective students Start to gain your independence now, so that when you go off to school it wouldn't be such a struggle. Also its best to have your priorities straight. Know what you went/going to college for, school work first, award yourself later.
In three sentences This University offers you so much for a cheaper price than most colleges. Not only is campus life great but they make sure the students enjoy there time spent there with many activities for SAC for free of cost. Professors are great, the campus is beautiful, and expenses are low, I rate MSU 9 out of 10.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is patrolled very well and it is super safe.
Greek Life Greek life is a huge deal, give it a chance you may be surprised with how much fun it is to be in a sorority or fraternity.
Clubs and Activities There are so many options to choose from club wise, options that will fit any student.
Great for these types of students Outgoing people, People that are willing to get out and involved.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Most students hang out at the Plaster Student Union.
Bang for the buck For the price MSU is worth every penny. Students get to experience a great college without the huge costs.
What to do for fun Get involved, go to footballs games, etc. Springfield has many things to do downtown and around campus.
Food and Dining There is a very wide variety of meals to choose from and the meals are not bland they are actually very good.
Dorm Life The dorms are very nice and clean. The rules are very strict so students do not have to worry about being put in a bad position because of their roommate.
Academic Rigor The professors are there to help. Establish a professional relationship with your professor, the better the relationship the better off you will be.
Tips for prospective students Turn things in way before the deadline. The earlier you are the better position you will be in when attending.
In three sentences Missouri State University is a fantastic school. The faculty on campus is there to help you the best they can and if they cannot help they will find someone that can. I would strongly recommend MSU, there are many opportunities to take advantage of that can help students find a successful career.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Sporting events go around the clock and the city of Springfield is so big and has so many cool places so have fun and explore! Also, JQH Arena has plenty of spectacular shows and is host to many singers and traveling groups like the Harlem Globe Trotters etc.
Food and Dining They had a pretty nice spread there. Very reasonably priced meal plans, although take the first week to really figure out just how much you are going to need meal plan wise. It does get old after awhile so I would plan some night outs for pizza or some taco bell right near campus.
Dorm Life I had a great time in the dorms at Missouri State. You get to know a lot of interesting people and hopefully you will have a group of friends in your roommate and neighbors. The rules that the dorms have can be dumb but they're in place for a reason. Careful with leaving your valuables lying around because you never know when someone will take something they need.
Academic Rigor Depending on the classes you take college will hopefully challenge you somewhat. I would start off with a semester of classes you enjoy and then begin to take harder classes so that you don't get burnt out your first semester.
Tips for prospective students Meet lots of new people don't get stuck in just one friend zone. The more people you meet the more interesting college will be for you in my opinion. You can take it easy in class for the first week or so and get settled but don't slough off more than that because it's too easy to get behind and quickly!
In three sentences Missouri State University-Springfield is a great school. It's got a ton of friendly people and the campus is set up very well and is quite beautiful. You get a great education while still managing to have fun with all their clubs and intramural sports teams.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Missouri State University is a college that wants you to get involved no matter what. The student union is where a majority of the activities and fun things to do are. I'll never forget the time that there was a comedy show held in the student union and Donald Glover was the guest. I had a blast! Now every time I see him on TV, I get excited at the fact that I have seen him in person at MY school. How cool is that?
Food and Dining Honestly, when I first started college I was worried about how the food would taste. I'm sure we have all seen a scene in a movie where the food in the cafeteria looks like it has been sitting for days upon days. Let me assure you that Missouri State has the BEST food! I'm pretty sure I spent more time in the cafe than I did my dorm room. I really like that they don't have the same thing everyday. They switch it up very often and there are a variety of foods to choose from.
Dorm Life Dorm life at Missouri State is great. I loved the fact my RA stayed literally two doors down from me. Whenever I had a problem or question, it was very easy to get someone to help me. Another thing I liked about living in the dorms was getting to know my roommate. You may feel like you are alone when you transition from being a senior in high school to living in a completely different state and being surrounded by hundreds of people that you do not know. That is how I felt. But after getting to know my roommate, I found out that she felt the exact same way that I did. Do not ever think you are alone because you are not.
Academic Rigor With college comes party life but you have to drill it in your head that you are there to better yourself and ultimately your future. It is easy to to get distracted and lose focus. There will be nights where your friends will try to get you to go out even though you have an exam early the next morning or days when you just do not feel like going to class. Do not become one of those people. Be happy that you are blessed to be able attend college and get a degree because there are and will be plenty of people who wish they could be in your shoes. Stay on the right track.
In three sentences Missouri State University is the best school to go to prepare yourself for the ¢real world¢. The professors there are great and you can tell that they want you to succeed in life. If you are someone like me who is not originally from Missouri and are a ways away from home, after a few days of getting to know people and attending classes, it is easy to get adjusted to the new environment that you are in. I believe that¢s what I love so much about Missouri State; the feeling of a home away from home.

In three sentences Very challenging to you as a student but the professors genuinely want to help and care. Registration is easy to do and figure out. Advisors help schedule and make plans for your future.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Missouri State seems really safe to me. They have a hotline you can call if you don't want to walk alone at night. Campus security patrols the whole campus, as well. I can't think of one thing that isn't safe if you follow all the rules and regulations.
Greek Life I am not a part of Greek Life, but I've seen some of the activities and houses they have. The houses are really pretty. The people that I know that are a part of Greek Life love it. They have made so many solid relationships that will last forever. If you love the social interaction and familial bonds, I suggest Greek Life. Just be prepared for the expectations and fees.
Clubs and Activities There are so many different types of clubs and organizations. Honestly, there is probably one (at least) for anything you can think of. You just have to look for them. I am part of a few and I've made tons of friends inside those groups. They are really entertaining and there is one for every interest you may have. Don't overload yourself, though.
What to do for fun There is always something to do at MSU. If you join clubs and organizations, there are usually activities within those groups. Campus is really close to downtown, too, which holds events as well. There are a couple of movie theatres, great food, sometimes live bands and street performers, really neat shops, and, of course, the Art Walk on Fridays. The Student Activities Council always has events planned for students, as well.
Food and Dining There are a few dining halls. I usually go to the Blaire-Shannon dining hall. The food selection was great in the beginning of the year, but it kind of gets old. The Plaster Student Union has food, though, too. I like the choices there, but, just a warning, you will spend a lot of money there. Choose wisely.
Dorm Life I live in Woods dormitory, and I absolutely love it. My floor is a part of Living-Learning Community, so all the girls have opportunities to connect. There is always an activity going on. The dorms give you a chance to have closer relationships with the rest of the residents. I have no regrets in living in the dorms.
Academic Rigor The rating of classes really depends on the person. However, the classes that I take are awesome. They challenge me and my professors know what they're talking about. Make sure to go to your classes, though. One absence can really disadvantage you.
Tips for prospective students Before you apply for Missouri State University-Springfield, make sure to check out the campus. Get a really good feel for the type of environment you will be in. If you are a commuter, make sure that you will be happy and able to participate in the types of organizations on campus. If you want to live in the dorms, explore the different houses and see which one you would prefer. Research thoroughly so as to get the best college experience. Do not procrastinate!
In three sentences The campus is absolutely gorgeous. I love the different types of people and things to do. The community around the campus is great to explore and hang out in, as well.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I feel very safe on campus during the day and night. At night the campus is adequately lit and people are still out until after dark; some nights I would see people jogging around campus.
Clubs and Activities The university offers many opporunities to get involved with clubs and activities. From intrumural sports to sociology clubs, these groups are offered to all students and if there was not a club with your specific interest, you could also make a club and gather members.
Great for these types of students The university is great for any type of student. As mentioned before, the campus is very diverse.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus One of my favorite places I would like to share is the Foster Recreation Center. The rec center offers the usual workout equipment, along with an indoor swimming pool, an indoor track, a basketball court/indoor soccer field, a wall climbing section, and more..
Bang for the buck In my opinion, the experience at MSU is a worthwhile experience. The people are friendly and accepting. With the history of Springfield, the city is urging and promoting diversity, therefore, the campus is very diverse and provides one with new relations and opportunities.
What to do for fun There is many things to do with any college. Whether it is hanging out with a couple friends in a dorm or going to a party, the university, along with the city in general, offers a comprehensive amount of things to do.
Food and Dining To retain all sincerity, I must say that I did not eat at the cafeteria at all; however, the Chick-Fil-A and Panda Express, along with other options including Starbucks, are other eating possibilities on campus. Also, there is a Taco Bell, Dominoes, Burger King and Chipotle within walking distance from campus.
Dorm Life The campus offers different dorm lifestyles depending on which dorm you choose. In my case, a cheap affordable dorm was ideal; however, the university offers suites from four to six people ( two to a room). Nonetheless, the people, no matter which dorm, are very social and friendly.
Academic Rigor One of the universities main concern, from my experience, would be academic dishonesty. The professors individually are not so strict. Many are considerate and reasonable, allowing flexibility with some scenarios.
Tips for prospective students If you are signing up for classes at MSU, or any other college in fact, I strongly recommend you to find some background information about the professors. There are many sources/reviews of the professors online. (e.g. ratemyprofessors.com)
In three sentences I can't say much since I am barely ending my first semester; however, the professors were very helpful and clear with their teachings. The campus offers many opportunities for student engagement and also many resources to assist you in your studies. I am looking forward to my next semester at MSU.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There is plenty to do for fun. A lot of on campus activities.. New rec center has a pool and lazy river type thing.
Food and Dining Food could be a bit healthier, but overall an OK selection.
Dorm Life My dorm life has not been a great experience, but I haven't met anyone else who has a negative outlook on dorm life.
Academic Rigor Classes I have taken are at a moderate difficulty level.
Tips for prospective students Apply for scholarships!!!!
In three sentences The classes I have taken this semester have been just a little higher level of difficulty compared to the high school classes I took. The campus is neat and clean all of the time. The student body is very involved from what I understand.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is really safe as long as you stay on campus.
Greek Life The greek life is expanding in the fall of 2013 there will be 7 national sororities and 1 local sorority and there are 15 national fraternities. The community is getting unusually strict though and is no longer allowed to be called Greek there.
Clubs and Activities There are a ton of clubs and campus organizations from intramurals to campus ministries to clubs for your major.
Bang for the buck The fastfood meal plan was redone this year and the plan is not very good. Before you had 35 meals that could be used and now you pay per meal (it is like a visa money card).
What to do for fun The sporting events are all free except baseball, there are all kinds of clubs and there is a big night life.
Food and Dining The food is relatively good. There are two dining halls and one has better breakfast food and the other has better dinner food. Both of the dining halls were redone this past summer.
Dorm Life The dorms were all just redone and are very nice. The only dorm you do not want to live in is Woods House.
Academic Rigor The general education classes are unfair in difficulty. All gen eds are 100 level classes and some teachers treat them as though they are middle school classes and some as though they are 400 level classes. You never know what level of difficulty you are going to receive.
Tips for prospective students Future students should be aware that there are many teachers in the Education department who are not qualified to be teachers and that you are paying $15,000 a year for that education.
In three sentences Missouri State has a beautiful campus and is known for being a school for education majors. My experience with teachers in the Education department however has not been good. I have not received an education that has properly prepared me to be a teacher and because of this I am transferring schools.

Categories Comments What to do for fun One easy way to have fun is going to basketball games: the student section is full of energy and enthusiasm. Plus, it helps that our boys and girls basketball teams are pretty good. In addition, there are movie nights at the Student Union every Wednesday and Sunday night (I saw the Avengers, for instance, shortly after it hit the movie theaters).
Food and Dining The dining halls have good variety: at Blair-Shannon and Garst there's always a sandwich and salad bar, as well as 'the Grill' (hamburgers, hot dogs, turkey burgers) and desserts table. Cereals always available, too. For the vegetarians, there's often tofu or vegetarian dishes. For those craving Papa John's, Subway, frozen yogurt, or Panda Express, they're available at the Student Union. And Potter's House (a coffee joint with amazing smoothies and desserts) and Steak and Shake are just down the street.
Dorm Life What's great about living in dorms, anywhere, is having access to friends 24/7. You don't have to drive from your house to theirs--you simply have to walk across the hall. It's great! What's especially great is living in Scholars House, which houses ~100 students. It's the smallest dorm, but everyone's very friendly and social. In fact, Scholars residents are some of the most active students on campus!
Academic Rigor In college, some classes are difficult, others are easy. It depends partly on the professor, and partly on the effort you put into schoolwork. For instance, I had a great Public Speaking teacher and, at the end of Semester, received an A in his class. He was a tough grader, but I'd put in a lot of work. I received a B in Spanish 201, which was the hardest course I've taken. It was a lot of work, and my teacher was strict, but I learned a lot from it.
Tips for prospective students Don't try to be involved in everything you're freshman year--pace yourself. Realize that you can't do it all. Instead of stretching yourself thin, choose several activities/organizations you want to really commit to. For example, if you're a sports fan, you can be on the Maroon Madness (the student fan group) board. If you want to be involved with people of other cultures, be an English Conversation Partner. Whatever you do, do it because it's what YOU desire to do--and give your 110% best (while doing schoolwork, too, of course).
In three sentences MSU is a great university for anyone wishing to be 'more than a number'--it has roughly 20,000 students, but feels intimate yet big enough for growth at the same time.

Dorm Life I never lived in the dorms but from what I've heard they have their pros and cons.
Tips for prospective students Don't take too many credit hours in one semester. You'll end up stressing yourself out and won't do as well in your classes as you hope.
In three sentences Missouri State University is such a great school with a variety of people to meet. The classes are interesting and well suited for your particular needs. Professors are willing to help and meet with their students.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are wonderful posts located all over campus, lit up with a blue light, that have emergency buttons if you ever need it. There also are campus safety officers that will escort you around campus at night if you ever feel unsafe.
Great for these types of students Small town students (such as myself) that want a transition to a larger city life. Springfield is big, but easy to navigate, and has a small town feel.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is a small grotto behind Meyer Library that does not get internet access, which is nice when you need to get away to read a text or just take a break from everything
What to do for fun Level 1 Gaming Center, on campus, is great. Along with the large television, pool table, and ping pong table in our grand lounge, there isn't too much time to be bored!
Food and Dining The dining halls are pretty good, Garst is definitely better than Blair Shannon. The Boomer Meals are definitely great, using them in the PSU is a nice treat.
Dorm Life I love my hall in Wells. I live on a Living Learning Community for Freshman girls and we are all close knit! It is a wonderful opportunity that I do not regret!
Academic Rigor I did not take many general education classes at MSU, but many other girls in my dorm say that their classes are very demanding, but worth their time.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you know how much the tuition will be for YOUR academic year. It caught me off guard when the tuition went up after one year.
In three sentences I feel that this beautiful campus is a wonderful place to live and study. There are many very interesting professors and courses of study.

Categories Comments What to do for fun The Springfield downtown area is walking distance from campus, and offers a variety of entertainment and shopping. There is also a free art gallery call the Art Walk that is hosted there on the first Friday of every month.
Food and Dining Hours of operation work well with students' schedules, but nothing can beat a home cooked meal.
Dorm Life The no alcohol rule is strictly enforced and the dorms are kept clean. The biggest problem seems to be homesickness.
Academic Rigor Students often help their classmates with the difficult subjects and Missouri State University offers tutors and group study sessions to students to assist them in passing classes such as English, Chemistry and Biomedical Sciences.
Tips for prospective students Turn in your application early, the earlier you do, the easier the process will go.
In three sentences The school's motto, 'Follow your passion, find your place.' perfectly describes the opportunities that Missouri State University offers. Students can pursue multiple degrees and career paths, and yet the size and set up of the school creates a tight knit community between students and professors.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus patrol are always visible, campus is very well lit, and the BearLine (campus bus) runs late hours on weekends for those who want to go downtown.
Greek Life As a member of the greek community, going greek has gotten me more involved in every way than I could have ever imagined. The greek community is constantly growing and is a great source for leadership, making social connections, and maintaining your studies as well. Definitely go through recruitment to at least see what it's all about at the very least!
Great for these types of students Missouri State University is a great place for students who want to get the whole college experience. It is big enough to feel important, yet just the right size so one will not get lost in the crowd. The campus is constantly being renovated, the programs are great, and the community and students are genuine. My first and only choice in Universities!
What to do for fun Student organizations really are the best way to stay informed on events going on on-campus. Missouri State sends out a weekly e-mail to students letting them know about fun events going on for that week as well. In addition, there are lots of activities going on in the Springfield community and college night discounts for students to enjoy. For instance, $1 movies on Tuesdays at Palace Movie Theatre for those students who have transportation.
Food and Dining There are lots of options in the dining halls so that even the pickiest eaters can find something. They have since I lived on-campus done lots of renovations to both of the main dining halls and have improved the dining hall service options as well.
Dorm Life My dorm experience was great! I met so many people in my dorm that I still see on campus and talk to after moving out. Missouri State really makes an effort to connect you with others through floor programs, move-in activities, and student organizations.
Academic Rigor Some classes pose more of a challenge than others but it really all depends on the subject, teacher, and your interest level.
Tips for prospective students Get involved! At Missouri State it's not all about the studies, it's about finding your place. There are over one hundred student organizations you can join and as a member of the greek community, I can say it has made my college experience!
In three sentences This is the perfect school for a student who wants to find their place in life. There are so many opportunities to get involved that Missouri State provides you with. The campus is just the right size, the faculty is helpful, and the University cares that you succeed!

Categories Comments Campus Safety Id checks at dorms after 7:00 pm, and now a bluw light policy where you can push a button at any blue light stop and a cop will escort you to your destination in you are out at odd hours, or feel unsafe.
Greek Life Is fine, it's relaxed and focused on community work. No one is really mean, they like new kids.
Great for these types of students People interested in studying education, math and science related career feilds. Communications is good as well, though the english program is old fashioned, and uninnnovative for today's modern society. You will learn old technique.
Bang for the buck You get what you pay for.
What to do for fun get involved in activities, club sports-- go to foster recreationa center to workout or play a game of basketball or ping pong. Foster rec also has a rock climbing wall, yoga and areobic classes, as well as a full indoor olympic sized pool that now has DIVE IN movies.
Food and Dining Garst and Blair Shannon offer a wide variety of options to eat, and now a meatless monday for vegetarians, or prospective vegetarians. Its hard on a diet, be careful of the freshman 15. We also have a taco bell, subway, starbucks, pappa johns, panda express, yogurtini, and grill on campus that takes meal plans.
Dorm Life Great dorms, there is always something going on to get out of your room for. Its a close knit community, and almost all RA's are great and understanding.
Academic Rigor classes are not too bad, if you show up. There is a new attendance policy in place that states three absences is a letter grade drop in the course-- makes you feel like high school.

In three sentences Missouri State Unniversity offers quality education for the price you pay-- it is a state school. Fraternity and Sorority life exist. Though Missouri State offers a liberal arts education, its simply old fashioned, and unintamite. You are just a number.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The security here keeps the students about what has been going on around campus. There is an option to have an escort walk with you at night if needed.
Greek Life Many options with houses right off campus.
Clubs and Activities There is something for everyone. If you are a church person there are many different groups options. Then there are many different intramural sports, along with many club teams. Another group is reslife which is a group of students who plan different activities, movies, concerts, and speakers. Also there is Maroon Madness which is the fan clan for MSU.
Great for these types of students If you're interested for anything to do with science or agriculture, this is a great place to be.
What to do for fun Besides weekly movies and other activities put on by the campus, on campus you can play sports on many different fields or in the new recreational facility. You also have many opportunities to go watch one of MSU's many sports teams. If you just want to get off of campus, the university's bus line goes through downtown. Downtown you have many options such as a theatre, shops, an arcade, nightclubs, and eateries.
Food and Dining There are a few options for where to eat with your meal plan. Each dinning hall is full of options like a grill, salad bar, pizza, pasta, aside from the regular meal choice. Then there other options located in the student center such as Subway, Panda Express, Red Mango, Papa John's, Starbucks, and Chick-fil-a.

Categories Comments Campus Safety As always be smart and things will be extremely safe for you, don't get drunk in a stranger's dorm and you're less likely to be in a bad situation, however we do have a great security and there are alerts whenever something is being investigated right on your email and stuff. Always report problems, this helps to maintain everyone's safety.
Clubs and Activities There is Stuff for everyone to do. Don't think there is anyone who would say they don't have a place to belong.
Great for these types of students Anthropology has a great comprehensive program and some AMAZING teachers. I majored in this for a while, loved it.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There's a little helmet that drives around on Fridays and if you wear your Bear Wear you can get free stuff.
Bang for the buck If you take all the opportunities you can really get your worth from the school. Check the boards and activities and the internships and you'll love it.
What to do for fun Our SAC plans move nights that are great, and you're right near down town so the night life is great.
Food and Dining Right near some great places, Planet Sub, Subway, Einsteins Bagels, so yeah, if you don't like the food they serve there's more around the corner, and the Break Time on the end of the street has the BEST hot chocolate. OMG
Dorm Life I never lived in one so I can't say, but my friends who do say it's good and bad, like everywhere else.
Academic Rigor Like everything this depends on your major, a microbiologist is going to have a more rigorous schedule obviously.
Tips for prospective students Take lots of courses in Strong and avoid Freddie, people say it's awesome but the power sometimes goes out and it can flood, trust me a few semesters back a friend lived there.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I have always felt completely safe on campus. I have never been outside on campus, night or day, without seeing at least one patrol car. They offer many services for additional safety for students as well. Including escorting students at late hours back to dorms or other destinations. They also have emergency assistance pillars posted all around campus in case of emergency or immediate danger.
Greek Life Greek Life is a must at Missouri State. I was involved with an organization called Delta Zeta. It's not only about socializing, but also about making connections. Being apart of Greek Life makes your college experience more fun and can open up your world to new things. A plus about sorority life is the academic help you can receive through making connections with your sisters and brothers.
Clubs and Activities Missouri State seems to center their mission around more involvement outside the classroom. I guarantee a student can find something that they can fit in. With over 300 organizations and counting, Missouri State tries to aim for having more of their students involved.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Being a smaller school gives the advantage of more community events. Usually the school holds concerts, diversity activities, student fairs, and seminars. Missouri State doesn't follow any rituals but they have many events I have only heard of at Missouri State. Locations on campus to know would be the Plaster Student Union where most students hang out. Another location being Carrington Hall where you can handled everything from financial aid to switching majors. All Missouri State programs are located at Carrington.
Bang for the buck There are many ways to save money on campus. There are many off campus bookstores dedicated to finding better rates for books. Another way to save money is through online Missouri State discounts sent daily to your account email used for academic, personal, and activity deals. Another great way to save money is the variety of restaurants with full meals for only around four dollars. In a one mile radius around 50 restaurants that meet the cheap requirements.
What to do for fun The downtown Springfield area is definitely the highlight of Springfield having something to offer for anyone. Living so close to the Ozarks can be a plus in the warmer months. Students can rent equipment or book trips for a weekend in the nature. Another place even closer by full of many attractions, like Silver Dollar City and music shows is the town of Branson just 50 miles away.
Food and Dining Missouri State just built a brand new dining hall on the campus. The facility is very big. I am always extremely satisfied with the options offered. They always have a huge variety of food to choice from.
Dorm Life Dorm Life at Missouri State is fantastic. I currently live in the more expensive dorms. They are bigger rooms, included with bathrooms and kitchen style areas. I think they are fairly priced for the high quality. Even the cheapest dorms satisfy a residence needs. Having visit around 4 other schools including Creighton, University of Missouri -Columbia, University of Missouri- Kansas City, and the University of Iowa I would say Missouri State wins in best dorm life.
Academic Rigor Personally, I feel the course load could be more challenging. Although I am speaking as only one semester in as a freshman. I think teachers are qualified for the job, but most of my classes are taught by graduated students and teacher's assistances. I did not pay for a higher level of education to be taught by other students.
Tips for prospective students 1. Remember the importance of attending class. 2. Get involved with the tutoring center, know as the BearClaw. Statistics show a huge increase in grades for students who use this free help tool. 3. Try to find an organization that fits you. Most of the time you can make connections to academics and employment opportunities because of a university organization.
In three sentences Missouri State has the mission of diversity and involvement. I feel the focus is shifted less off an education and more to extracurricular activities. The professors at this institution are very well qualified for the job in my opinion.

Food and Dining Missouri State has made recent improvements to its food and dining services. The dining halls offer a variety of foods that aim to meet the nutritional needs of the students. There are also numerous fast food chain options available in the student union.
Dorm Life I did not live in the dorms. However, I have many friends who did live in the dorms, and they seemed pleased with the living conditions.
