    Tips for prospective students

To get good grades in classes takes a lot of self motivation. Anything you do not learn in class you must learn from the book or from a tutor. Tutors are not a bad thing, trust me, sometimes its the extra kick you need to succeed in your future classes. Also the library is a great place to study there are study rooms on the third floor and reference books for just about everything, also it is open until midnight.

    Am enjoying being here

The atmosphere here at Rolla is awesome. The people around are always willing to help and there are many many study groups to find and join.

    Am learning a lot

The Professors really push you to the hardest extent. They expect you to do your homework the first time and take school very seriously. However, if you finish your homework and work at it you will learn more than you expected and the way most professors teach the material it is guaranteed to stick.

Nearby students interested in an English degree Students wanting to go into engineering; computer, nuclear, mechanical, electrical... Students wanting to go into Computer Science Students who like the fact that football players actively talk about the history of lasers as part of a debate between scientists and engineers during lunch.

    Tips for prospective students

Missouri S&T may be continuing to renovate their dorms; if they are doing this the year you are to come in as a freshman, they may put you in the Rolla Inn (they've done this to us this year and the freshmen before me), an old Howard-Johnson inn. It's not... the best... but it builds character. And it's temporary. Regardless of where you stay, though, as advice for anyone going to college for the first time, remember these things: Attend classes. A lot of the classes your first year will have their grade based in some part on your attendance. I know in high school you were told your professors don't care but only your test grades, but I guess they're trying to bridge the two here. Also, MEALS ARE NOT ALWAYS SERVED. If you're going Greek, this may not apply to you, but if you are on campus housing, none of the dining facilities are always open. You have to find which are open when, if you want to eat out on days that the closest one is not open or go to another dining facility. Many are the times I have gone without a meal before it sank in; I could not just go in like I do at my house and get a sandwich. And nothing makes studying harder than a growling stomach louder than a jackhammer waiting for the pizza to come.

    Bang for the buck

So far I do think this place is worth my money.

    Am enjoying being here

I do like it here. The intelligence is something to admire. I do not mean to dog others, but there is a kind of freshness here that was not so much in high school. It is like my mind can breathe. Also, the town is COMPACT, not SMALL. It is very full but not fat. This makes it relatively easy to get to places and find what you need.

    Am learning a lot

In the math class I took, I learned an interesting learning style; the math I'd had before in High School (like in a summary) but I learned how to make things stick very well in MS&T's math class. My focus is in Computer Science. While I've had programming experience before, the pace of the class is incredible and by the end of Semester One we are now pretty much at the extent of my knowledge. So, given the pace we were at, I expect to learn a lot Semester Two.

Engineers. This school gives you the knowledge to be successful in whichever area you're interested in. And the have quite a lot of engineering departments. Nerds. Hard workers. Team players. Hands-on learners. Boy to Girl ration - 5:1 - Ladies, must I say anymore?

    Tips for prospective students

Being a nerd is a good thing here. Not only do the teachers expect and encourage the best in you, but other students motivate you as well. Join study groups and don't be afraid to attend tutoring sessions or meet with your teachers. It's going to take a lot of work; this school prepares you, they don't simply give you your grade. It is complete possible to succeed though. Read your textbooks and do your work and it will work out great.

    Bang for the buck

This school prepares you incredibly well for what you plan on pursuing. Not to mention, anything you have fun doing is going to be worth the money.

    Am enjoying being here

The teachers and students are friendly and like being here. It makes walking around campus more relaxing. Also there isn't that pressure to go out every night and party. There is always something to do but it's not distracting. Student also are always forming study groups. That's a great opportunity to meet new people, have fun, and get ahead in school all in one.

    Am learning a lot

The teachers expect your best. You quickly learn what you need to do to succeed and there are numerous resources on campus to help. Many of the teachers are willing to work through a problem you may have if you just take the time to meet with them. There are also great study sessions with individual students or class study groups (LEAD). The material you learn sticks with you and most classes even build of what you learn in others.

If you're a science geek, math geek, computer geek you'll LOVE Rolla. Among the most popular extracurricular activities here are student design teams. These are teams of students that build engineering marvels: solar cars, solar houses, F1 racing cars, fast human powered machines, satellites, etcetera, etcetera. These are the kinds of students that thrive here at S&T, and the kinds of classmates and peers that you will constantly be interacting with. If a student-run organization that genetically engineers bacteria for competitions is the kind of thing that sends shivers down your spine, this is the place for you.

    Tips for prospective students

Although S&T offers a few majors in History and English, it's really an engineering and science school at its core. I know a few humanities majors here, but usually they attend for reasons other than the curriculum (baseball, living local, etc.) I recommend coming here to study science or technology. That said, it's important to know that science is something that you prospective students should know you're interested in; maybe it's something you did well in in high school. At any rate, strong math skills are a MUST, and the lowest math class offered here is algebra. The next lowest is calculus I.

    Bang for the buck

I assume it's cheaper here at MS&T than at Mizzou, but a good 15 credit hours' tuition will cost a pretty penny (somewhere around $5000 depending on the year). There are several exceptions, but generally for the first two years students are required to live in university housing (tack on another $10,000 a semester). Money aside, a student here not only gets the five star education he/she pays for, but an incredible array of student resources (24/7 computer access, 24 hour library, work/study program) as well as helpful professors and academic advisors. You get what you pay for.

    Am enjoying being here

Aside from learning, the community of students at Rolla is impressively diverse and attractive. A student here can choose from hundreds of student organizations based on whatever interests they come with. I personally enjoy cave exploring with the MSM Spelunkers and juggling with the UMR juggling club. There are multitudes of organizations for multitudes of different people, and plenty of ways to get involved with the community. It's almost difficult not to make friends!

    Am learning a lot

I came into Missouri S&T hoping to become a mathematician. I found that it wasn't hard to get involved in extracurricular studies and research for free. I feel like (as opposed to high school) MST is a totally learning oriented school, where knowledge is freely shared and research is for everyone. In my first semester here I had the feeling of attending lectures from Pythagoras himself in the ancient Greek museums of antiquity. It's really a unique and amazing experience.

Great for these types of students

Those who want to pursue an engineering degree. This school gives you the right background and companies flock to that.

    Tips for prospective students

Balance work and study. Don't study yourself to death, but then again don't completely neglect your school work. Find people to make study groups. Friends with the same classes always works. Enjoy your college experience. It's four (or five) years of your life that you'll never be able to get back. Make the best of it through having fun and most importantly by studying hard.

    Bang for the buck

This school works very hard to prepare the students for the work world. The students leave Missouri S&T with a good technical background.

    Am enjoying being here

I absolutely love it here! The students here are great. If you're ever lost just ask anyone and he/she will guide you. Students here care about each other. You meet people with the same interests because this is mostly an engineering school. This school always has something to do.

    Am learning a lot

The classes are tough, but when you get that good grade, you know you earned it and really knew the material.

Nerds Tech-Savvy Hard Workers Hands-On Learners Desire to be Engineers

    Tips for prospective students

If you plan on attending this school, be ready to work. You definitely need to be sure that what you plan on majoring in is what you want to do, because it's going to become your life for the next 4 years. Possibly 5 if you plan on pursuing a career in engineering. No matter where you go though, know why you're there and be willing to work towards what you want.

    Bang for the buck

Your money is definitely well-spent at MS&T. You get intense training in your career field and you really know what you're doing by the time you get out there. Employers flock to this school because of that fact and the career fairs we have draw over 300 major employers looking to hire. Also, just the benefits the MS&T name can get you after college are worth the money.

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy MS&T for the most part, but there are a few things that aren't so great about it. The work load seems to really build up sometimes and the Male to Female ratio is 3:1 to name a few. Things like the annual St. Pat's celebration always make up for stuff like that though.

    Am learning a lot

The classes here at MS&T will definitely teach you everything you need to know about your decided career field. The courses are very in-depth and challenging so if you want to pass you have no choice but to learn the material frontwards and backwards. Many of the courses also teach you how to work well in groups, which is a skill you will need if you plan on a career in engineering.

Self-Motivated, Team Players, Leaders, Great communicators, and great listeners.

    Tips for prospective students

Study, study, study! You may have breezed through high school with straight A's, but I can assure you that wont happen at MS&T. The curriculum is challenging but worth while. Putting effort into the material you will learn at MS&T will help you to do better in school and succeed in a career.

    Bang for the buck

I came to college to get an education and I am certainly getting that here. For the cost, MS&T is a very great school choice. There are similar schools that I looked at that cost upwards of $45,000 every year! MS&T is an exceptional school for the cost.

    Am enjoying being here

Rolla is a very quiet community. The rural setting keeps distractions to a minimum. If a student wants to have fun there are many outdoor activities that are local to Rolla, both on and off campus. If a student likes city life, Rolla is only an hour and a half from St. Louis and about an hour away from Columbia.

    Am learning a lot

The professors at MS&T push students hard to accel. The courses are difficult but worthwhile. There are multiple oppurtunities to recieve help such as Teacher Office hours and study groups. All of these oppurtunities are focused on helping students. You must show that you are doing work, they will not simply do this work for you. Teachers and peers are not the only option for help, graduate students are often willing to help students who seek assistance and show effort. There are some assigned hours that they may help students during, but if you are having trouble they are usually just a phone call away.

This is a great school for people looking for an engineering major, it has a wide range to choose from. The school is for anyone really looking for a career in the science or technology fields like the school's name implies.

    Tips for prospective students

Do the homework its the best way to learn the material because some of the teachers are not the best at teaching but you can expect that with any college. The school provides things called LEAD sessions which are basically walk-in tutoring sessions if you need help in a subject. Study for exams even if you never had to in high school, college is a different ballpark I learned that the hard way after failing some exams.

    Bang for the buck

You will definitely get the best bang for your buck if you are coming to this school for an engineering major. The school has career fairs every semester and it helps people get summer jobs while in school to help pay for college.

    Am enjoying being here

I wasn't sure coming here if I would enjoy being here because I didn't know anyone in Rolla. I was the only one from my graduating class that came here but I joined a fraternity and it was the best decision I have every done. I met a lot of new people and made friends that I will have for the rest of my life.

    Am learning a lot

You will learn a lot at this school. At first you will learn some more in depth math and physics but when you get all that out of the way and can start learning what you actually want to learn, the classes for your intended major.

Question-askers, those who care about their grades, those who want quality information rather than just to get through a course, those who can take a hefty workload to be better prepared for the future.

    Tips for prospective students

If you live in Missouri and want either a degree in chemistry, biology, computer science, or engineering this is the place to go. There are also degrees for English, psychology, and history. Have fun in Rolla and open up to people to enjoy the college experience.

    Bang for the buck

With the small class sizes and the way the professors care for your grade, I would definately say this school is worth the money. As long as your dedicated to learning all of the resources you could possibly need are there.

    Am enjoying being here

Rolla is a great place to be. The small community is very nice and there isn't a whole lot of rush like there is in St. Louis. There are also plenty of activities to get into while your here. If your into sports, but don't want to devote all of your time to being on a school team, there are intramural sports that go on all year. I was on the intramural soccer and football teams. As well as a few others. There are sports from softball all the way to billiards. Also the campus mood is, well, nerdy. If you are a fan of dungeons and dragons or any video games or having week long games of humans vs zombies, this is the place for you.

    Am learning a lot

The Professors here really care about your success and are always available for you to ask questions. The classes can be pretty challenging, but if you are willing to put some time into your studies, (which you should be since its college and you will wind up doing it anyways) you will do great here! It is easy to learn when you always know someone who can help.

    Bang for the buck

Kind of expensive compared to my other options, but seems to be well worth it.

    Will enjoy being here

While the campus isn't a party school, it doesn't mean there won't be fun. With all of the extracurricular activities available I'll always be busy.

    Will learn a lot

I've visited the campus and talked with many of the students there, and it seems that this campus really helps you learn and earn a degree.

Study alot dont just study till you think you got it down study till you cannot get it out of your head. The professors or mainly the TA's are all about being way to specific on quizzes and test.

    Bang for the buck

No, the school dosent seem to care about student funding only abou.t gaining money so they try to bleed you dry with lots of fees that make no sense.

    Am enjoying being here

This school is filled with nice people, but most of incoming freshman are extremely immature the dorms are not that great the food is worse than cafeteria food. But at least they have alot of clubs for you to participate in.

    Am learning a lot

The material that you learn is really review from your high school classes, you occasionally learn something new but not that much.

    Bang for the buck

At the high cost of schooling now a days, it is important to students to find the type of school that will fulfill their needs as well as not breaking the bank in the process. Rolla is just that. It is a less expensive school, but a good percent of the countrys top engineers and scientists come from Missouri S&T.

Missouri S&T is a great school for engineering students as they offer several programs of study to specialize in.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are unsure of the degree plan you want please chose a degree where you specialize. Do not get a degree where you can go in many directions when you graduate. Chose something like engineering or accounting for example. When you graduate you will be an engineer or an accountant. This will allow you to stay in the same career field your entire career.

    Bang for the buck

The tuition has proved to be very expensive, however I have learned that the school is known worldwide for its engineering programs. The classes are great, so yes it is a good value.

    Am enjoying being here

I am a distance student but have visited the campus and the area of Rolla. The campus proved to be very easy to get around and the area of Rolla was great.

    Am learning a lot

The courses are great and I am learning a great deal that I am already applying to real world uses on the job.

st. patrick's day is crazy on campus. students get out of school for a few days and they party like crazy. they crown a student as st. patrick and a royal court for the parade. all of this is in honor of the patron saint of minors: st. patrick.

    What to do for fun

rolla has a lot of parks and great jogging/biking trails. the movie theater is okay, there are better ones about half-an-hour away that have 3-d. there's a roller skating rink with a decent arcade and laser tag.

    Food and Dining

there is a good variety of good and reasonably priced restaurants in rolla. there isn't much of an ethnic variety, but what there is is good.

    Academic Rigor

from what i have heard from mst students, the course work is pretty rigorous, depending on the major and what they learned in high school.

    What to do for fun

There are numerous clubs and extracurricular activities. The Rec Center has everything you need to work out or just have fun. There are several places to eat within walking distance. There are many places nearby to bike, hike, or kayak.

    Food and Dining

The food at TJ Hall is the best. Havener Center is pretty good too.

go to their website and look up past st. patrick's day stuff-- it seems really cool and involved; he is the decided patron saint of engineers, so i believe them to be justified in their celebrations.

    Bang for the buck

this school seems incredibly reasonable from what i've seen so far. it is only around 20k a year instead of more around the 40k i have seen as the norm for other engineering schools (the 20k is referencing in-state tuition). there are a few fines and fees, mostly for computer usage based on class hours, which seem reasonable, especially when tutoring is free and encouraged.

    Food and Dining

i know that they use chartwells' dining services in their cafeterias. they're okay but not great--far from home cooked but incredibly above high school food. i was there in the summer and ate; i am told that during the main part of the year it is much better, though much more crowded. each dining hall also has its own schedule, and none are open 24/7.

    Academic Rigor

trust me, the rigor of this school is great, but so is the reward. study hard, read ahead, do the homework.

    Tips for prospective students

talk to someone who goes to this school or attend one of s&t's functions and ask questions. write them down beforehand as well. don't be hesitant and apply for every scholarship that you can!

    In three sentences

this school seems pretty awesome. it has a different atmosphere--everyone seems so smart and so together, it's just unreal. the campus has its history, old but filled with many great minds and a lot of the thirst for knowledge.

Residential Life always puts on a bunch of events, the lounges on each floor are furnished pretty well. I live in TJ which was recently renovated so the rooms are pretty nice, the bathrooms are decent. Elevators break once in a while so get used to using stairs.

    Academic Rigor

It may seem pretty lax at first, but once you get out of gen eds it can be pretty rough. As long as you put forth the effort you will see a good return with your grades.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't miss any classes if you can help it (pay attention in class, take notes), get your GPA/ACT scores up to grab good scholarships from the school itself. Go to office hours if you really need help, listen to instructor's advice on how to solve problems and how to prepare for tests.

    In three sentences

Good college for science and technology related majors, lots of engineering majors (all of them ABET accredited). Small class sizes for most courses, instructors are friendly and easily reachable during office hours. Only downsides are the lack of girls on campus and the town is pretty small (not a bad thing in my opinion).

The campus police definitely try to keep things safe, but in general the campus doesn't have much for safety issues. You should be able to feel safe here.

    Greek Life

Greek life is the best. There is so many fraternities and sororities on campus and they are all wonderful! I promise it is something to look in to.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many organizations to get involved it. Tons of fun only or social ones and a great number of professional organizations.

Saint Pat's. St. Patrick's day is the big holiday at campus and there is no way to describe it. You just have to experience it.

    What to do for fun

Join Greek life! Get involved with organizations because they are tons of fun. As far as things to do in the area, outdoorsy stuff is pretty much it.

    Food and Dining

As with any food and cafeteria, there are always the mishaps, but in general everything is really good. There is always a good variety and a few amazing places to eat on campus.

    Dorm Life

The dormitories are really fun and a great way to meet friends that can last a lifetime. Also, it is great that the cafeterias are really close to the dorms and there are easy access printers.

    Academic Rigor

These classes really put you to the test. You have to make sure that the major you have chosen is right for you. It is possible to pass with flying colors though!

    Tips for prospective students

Number one rule is study hard! Always remember that there are many resources at your disposal. Also, remember that if you want to switch your major, there are so many other science degrees available!

    In three sentences

Missouri S&T is an amazing school with amazing people and great opportunities. There are so many people, including teachers and counselors, who are there for your success. This college is a great place to pursue a science degree.

There are emergency telephones located all over campus, and the campus police are readily available if you need anything, even if it's just someone to walk you home late at night.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many options to choose from, and they all build a sense of community and learning.

Great for these types of students

Great for students who love math, science, or engineering. Students who do the best here are those who don't mind being a bit dorky on occasion.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

St. Patrick's Day is a huge celebration at our school. The entire week of St. Pat's there are activities on and off campus devoted to kicking back and having a good time. We even get a couple days off of classes!

    Bang for the buck

The price is relatively low for the quality of education one receives at Missouri S&T. The room and board prices are a little high, but there are many off campus housing options for juniors and seniors, as well as campus approved housing options for everyone.

    What to do for fun

A lot of people at Missouri S&T take the easy path of playing video games with friends in all of their free time. I choose, instead to get involved in organizations. There are many fine arts groups, professional groups for nearly every occupation, fraternal organizations, a myriad of student design teams, and more.

    Food and Dining

There are three main dining hall options. Two are buffet, and one is not. The buffet halls are a much better value, but the food isn't always high quality. The other has delicious food, but a lot of it is greasy. Eating there every day can be very bad for you if you don't make wise choices.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are comfortable, relaxed environments. Some have tighter knit communities than others. I highly recommend Thomas Jefferson Hall. It is newly renovated, and the community atmosphere is unmatched.

    Academic Rigor

This school is tough. But the difficulties are what show you that you're getting an education that is actually worth the time and money you put into it.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved in more than one organization when you come. It's a great way to build your resume, get to know people, and have something fun to look forward to every week. Never be afraid to ask for help. This school is challenging, but there are so many people ready and willing to help if you just ask for it.

    In three sentences

Missouri S&T was the perfect choice for me. The teachers really care about the students' education, and create challenges, but then help students overcome those challenges. There are hundreds of ways to get involved on campus and get to know a lot of remarkable and driven people.

    Campus Safety

The University Police are great at their jobs. I've never had to call them, but I've heard they are really fast responders and always really friendly. Rolla is an overall really safe town, so feeling safe of campus is a given. If campus safety is one of your top priorities, Missouri S&T is the place for you.

    Greek Life

Greek life at Missouri S&T is pretty great. There is a strict anti-hazing policy enforced so students always feel safe.

    Clubs and Activities

There are more than 200 student organizations on campus, and counting! You name it, we have it. And if the club you're looking for isn't yet established, you can start your own!

Great for these types of students

Motivated, brilliant, determined, maybe a little nerdy

Missouri S&T celebrates St.Patrick's day like no one else. We have a week-long celebration, a parade, games, and we even get time off from school to celebrate our Best Ever! St.Pat's every year.

    Bang for the buck

You definitely get your money's worth at Missouri S&T. Not only are the classes challenging and fast paced, there are also a ton of research opportunities. And the almost-guaranteed-job-offer thing really makes it all worth it!

    What to do for fun

Rolla is a tiny Midwest town, so most of the fun activities are centered around the Missouri S&T campus. There are lots of student organizations, from reading to spelunking. Finding where you fit in is really easy here. If you're looking for off campus stuff, there are a lot of beautiful hiking areas outside of town.

    Food and Dining

There are lots of dining options both on and off campus. You are required to have a Chartwell's Food Service meal plan if you live on campus, which isn't the best. However, there is a large variety of restaurants, coffee shops and cafes all around town that even out the not-so-good cafeteria food.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life here is great, and you can find your niche pretty easily. If you want more private, quiet rooms, the Residential College is amazing. If you're looking for a more commercial dorm experience, Thomas Jefferson Hall is a great dorm.

    Academic Rigor

The classes are hard, yes, but they push you to become the best you can be.

    Tips for prospective students

You have to work really hard here, but it definitely pays off in the long run. Just keep telling yourself that graduates from Missouri S&T have a higher average starting salary than Harvard graduates!

    In three sentences

The best school in the Midwest for engineering and sciences. The job placement rate is spectacular, and you are almost guaranteed a job upon graduation. An excellent place to get an excellent education.

    What to do for fun

Lots of rivers and parks are near by so float trips are common and super fun. The school also hold a lot of free movie nights in one of our biggest lecture halls with free snacks and drinks and they always have current awesome movies.

    Food and Dining

Selection on some days is sketchy but for the most part, I enjoy all the food.

    Dorm Life

we have 4 complexes and all are awesome places to live. Friendly people and a great community to be apart of.

    Academic Rigor

This is a tough school! We are known for it and we like to keep it this way. Work hard and it will pay off.

    Tips for prospective students

Learn how to study! If you breezed through high school and didn't need to study or do much homework then you need to learn. This school isn't easy, but when it comes time to find a job, companies want our students because we are much more prepared.

    In three sentences

I love school here. Lots of fun people and things to do without being to large of a campus. No need for shuttling and all that jazz, everything is a walkable distance and the weather is great here.

Absolute best bang for your buck when it comes to tuition and extracurricular activities.

    What to do for fun

Drink beer! Enjoy the outdoors of Missouri. Join your fellow video gaming friends. Frisbee at the parks.

    Food and Dining

The cafeterias are great, and support many diets as we have many international students. We have Einstein Bros on campus, Jimmy Johns and Subway are very close. There are lots of pubs and pizza places, too.

    Dorm Life

The Resident College and Thomas Jefferson halls are new. I have never stayed in the dorms; only rented houses. Investment Realty is a company that has a monopoly over most of Rolla's rental properties. When you sign a lease with them, be ready to sign up for 10+ months--have a plan B to recruit roommates if your first ones don't work out.

    Academic Rigor

Some freshman level courses you can breeze through because the professor knows that it is a GPA-cushioning class. Physics 23 will be a wake up call if you're an engineering major. This university is not supposed to be easy.

    Tips for prospective students

If you haven't already taken Calculus, then you need to take your Math courses at Columbia College online or at another university prior to attending S&T. The mathematics here are not easy.

The Saint Pats holiday is the biggest time of the year for S&T. The biggest party of the year that takes up about a week.

    What to do for fun

Rolla is a small town so not a lot of entertainment can be driven to. The fun mostly comes from your peers when we decide what to do on a random Tuesday night, Bake cookies!

    Food and Dining

The dining halls are spread around campus, but the meal plans and accessibility of the food are some of the downsides. Some dining halls are open at some specific times and you would not be able to use two meals for lunch for example.

    Dorm Life

Most dorms have been recently redone, so the living areas are quite nice. There are also lounges meant for students recreation and separate lounges for study.

    Academic Rigor

This school is for bright students, most are wishing to go into the engineering field. The academic structure is designed to help each student with their field of work and gives plenty of opportunity.

    Tips for prospective students

The food was incredibly greasy, but edible. They have a brick pizza oven which was neat.

    Dorm Life

I spent a week in TJ and it was adequate; the mattresses weren't so nice but a foam pad can easily fix that. The communal bathroom was alright.

    Academic Rigor

MS&T is ABET accredited, so the courses are just as tough as any other engineering major at any university. Humanities classes aren't so difficult.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure that engineering is what you want to pursue. Keep taking rigorous math and science classes.

You cannot work and go to school at the same time and expect to do well at this school and expect to have a social life. The loans do add up but the job opportunity later will be better than other schools.

    What to do for fun

I like to bike, and hang out with friends.

    Food and Dining

I did not like the selection. My roommate was a vegetarian and I ate a lot of the same foods she did. The food was never fresh and was way over priced. I did not like the fact that everyone that lived in the dorms was forced to have a meal plan. Again I do like living off campus and bring my own packed lunches.

    Dorm Life

I did not like living in the dorms. I lived in residential college. I had problems with one person I lived with and the director would not let me move to another building. I would have liked it better if I lived in TJ. I really like living off campus on the other hand.

    Academic Rigor

The school mostly focuses on your major. What I do like, is that in my department they focus on group work and real world problems.

    Tips for prospective students

There is not a lot of things to do in the town and the college is expensive. Don't get overwhelmed if you don't pass the first time around. Keep working at it because it will get better.

    In three sentences

This school is very difficult, but you will learn. It will help you with your future unlike some other schools I have attended. The town may not be the best, but if you work hard in the end you will have a greater return than students at other colleges.

I've always felt really safe, even when walking back to my dorm at 1am from the library after a long day of studying.

    Greek Life

I'm not personally involved but many of my friends are and they love it, so if it's something you're interested in I would encourage you to go for it.

    Clubs and Activities

I really think that there is something for everyone, and once you get involved in one organization, it's only too easy to get more involved.

Great for these types of students

Missouri S&T is primarily a school for those interested in science and engineering. However, there are a lot of other great programs as well, like the business and humanities programs.

The biggest event on campus is Saint Patrick's Day and we get a 2 day recess to celebrate, although festivities usually last about 2 weeks. There are all sorts of games and fun things to do and every year celebrations conclude with a parade and concert.

    Bang for the buck

If you live in Missouri, it's a really good deal. I also have some friends from outside Missouri who said that this school was cheaper than other options back home.

    What to do for fun

For fun, my friends and I like to take road trips to St. Louis or the Lake of the Ozarks which are close enough for a day trip. There are a lot of great outdoors activities around Rolla.

    Food and Dining

The food isn't that great in my opinion, but most people enjoy it. It really depends on the kind of food you are used to eating.

    Dorm Life

The Residential Life staff puts in a lot of effort to make sure that students are getting involved outside the classroom and making lasting friendships. All the housing options are really nice and the living communities are what you make of them.

    Academic Rigor

Some of the classes can be really challenging, especially if you've never been exposed to the material. There are however, help sessions available for almost every class. For the classes that don't have a help session, the professor is more than willing to help you out as long as you communicate with them.

    Tips for prospective students

No matter where you go to school, it's important to get involved outside of the classroom because you will build a good network that can be really useful once you graduate.

    In three sentences

It's a really good school with great teachers that really care about making sure you get a good education. The atmosphere of the school is open and it's very easy to get involved in extracurriculars.
