Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students who want to get their general education done in a quick and cost efficient manner.
Tips for prospective students Classes are always extremely full, so my tip is that you think carefully about the classes you need to take before you register. Do not take up space in classes that you do not need, because you may be keeping someone who really needs that class from getting in.
Bang for the buck Cost per unit was very reasonable!
Did learn a lot Had some of the best teachers here!

Categories Comments What to do for fun this is not a place for fun this is just mostly for classes and to leave. the way a person can have fun is joining sports like high schools are.
Food and Dining the food and dining is not the worst. i would say the food and dining is average just about any
Dorm Life no dorms are at this campus, since this is a 2 year community college.
Academic Rigor some of the professors are very good teachers i will not lie. this is why a person should check with other students or online aid before selecting a professor for a class.
Tips for prospective students go to counselors more; than, once a semester, since they don't help as much. mostly a person will wait 3 hours for a counselor and still not end up with a great counselor.
In three sentences modesto junior college is for people; who, can't afford universities and if pretty inexpensive. this college gives you what you pay for and that is counselors; that, hardly help the students. also, students; who, usually get lost in the shuffle.

Categories Comments Campus Safety the security guards themselves are awesome, always willing to help out. however, we have had car thefts from parking lots (about 10 cars a year). you can get an escort to your car if you have night classes and security regularly drives through the parking lots.
Greek Life alpha gamma sigma honors society is the only greek thing at mjc, but it's an excellent club to join.
Clubs and Activities fairly large variety of clubs. we have student government, honors society, foreign students, and many others that are active on campus.
Great for these types of students anyone! very welcoming atmosphere for people from all walks of life. there are several classes for community members who want to learn skills or take a pe class in addition to the regular classes.
Bang for the buck very good class diversity and level of education for the unit cost. you can get 60 transferable undergraduate units done for about 1/10 the cost of a university. parking pass is only $20 a semester and there are only about $50 or so other student fees (health fee, etc.).
What to do for fun mjc is really good about offering a lot of free events, like documentary screenings, speakers, and musical performances. we have an active drama department that puts on plays and musicals each year. several clubs, such as honor society and student government host events throughout the year. always something going on!
Food and Dining the student center houses the cafeteria on east campus and has a wide range of food. the prices are a little high, but for the most part, decent. there are several restaurants within 15 minutes of the school, so you have lots of options.
Dorm Life no dorms on campus
Academic Rigor most classes are harder than high school work, but not too challenging that you can't make a's. as long as you actually read your textbooks and do the assignments, you'll be fine. the best advice i can give is to talk to your teachers, they will help you out if you let them know that you need it!
Tips for prospective students sign up for classes as soon as possible after receiving your sign-up date--classes go fast! buy a parking pass; it's cheaper and faster than buying a one-day pass each time you need to park.
In three sentences good transition school to prepare you for university studies or getting a job. most teachers are exceptional and want to help you succeed. very relaxed, open campus with plenty of places to hang out.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are several campus parking lots that are constantly monitored by security. The school provides escorts for those that don't want to walk alone to their car at nighttime. They even provide help for students that have car problems while on campus.
Greek Life There are a few different clubs and student housing establishments towards the Greek life at our school.
Clubs and Activities From student government to sports, you can find any club to suit your need. I currently enjoy the rigorous Geology field-studies, in which our club travels all over the western front to camp and learn about geologic movement.
Great for these types of students Great for students wishing to prepare for a more vigorous college experience. If you need to raise your GPA, or just get the same education at a cheaper price, community college is the way to go. Modesto has a great campus, and has been around for many years.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Modesto Junior College has many fun and exciting events, including sports, theater, public speakers, and club events. The new science building will feature a life-size Saber Tooth Cat skeleton hanging from the ceiling in honor of our state fossil. Both of our campuses have great architectural buildings and monuments, including an art gallery and murals.
Bang for the buck If you want to get more bang for your buck, be sure to push yourself more with each semester. While tuition rises, it is up to you to work to your own advantage. Be sure to apply for financial aid every year, as it helps for tuition, books, room and even more.
What to do for fun There are several clubs that take trips and build fundraising activities. There are often barbecues and events taking place in the quad. Also, there are many places around town to go to for fun, and many places like Barnes and Noble, or Queen Bean for entertainment or out of school study sessions.
Food and Dining The college is split into two campuses. Each campus provides helpful service and great food at their cafeteria, including healthy snacks, candy, chips, sodas, salads, sandwiches, and even a chef for some finer solutions. The East Campus always has access to a taco truck, that stays parked across the street; friendly service and a great price.
Dorm Life Unfortunately, there are no associated dorm rooms or apartments for students. There are many inexpensive rental homes and apartments nearby, as well as easily accessible transportation routes to get you from campus to campus.
Academic Rigor The staff adheres to California's educational standards, and are comfortable and cohesive. The classes are easily scheduled and are more laid back than most universities. The graduation rate however is 17%, but if you stick to your plan you are more than likely to achieve 100% of your goals.
Tips for prospective students When considering this college, keep in mind that anyone can come here. If you do choose to attend, be sure to keep yourself motivated by attending a guidance class and stick to your plan. There are also many clubs to join to keep this fast paced lifestyle fun and enjoyable.
In three sentences Modesto Junior College provides an exceptional platform to help excel you towards your future goals. Their teachers and staff are open and understanding and enjoy extending their knowledge to students of all ages. The classes range in size and academic level, and the many varying subjects allow anyone to achieve a better future.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Great for athletes, lots of sports to participate in. Great for child development mrs. Mrs. Williams-Jackson is awesome. She knows her stuff, and is always willing to review grades and offer help. Great for low budget students Great for easy commute Great for diesel tech program
Tips for prospective students For prospective students, I advise you to make an academic plan. Knowing which classes and having LOTS of schedule options is a big help. You will most likely not get your first choice of classes on your first registration, so be sure to have many classes lined up so you don't waste time or money. Also be sure to buy the catalogue for your year, the year you begin. Requirements for graduation or transfer may change, but if you get any trouble its good to know that they must hold you accountable only for requirements of the year you began.
Bang for the buck They really help out with fee waivers, and prices of other services. The resources they provide such as tutoring, cram night at the library, as well as help from indivdual teachers makes it easy for you to get help in the subject you need.
Am enjoying being here I wish that there were an easier way to get from class to class. This community college is split into two campuses, so sometimes its tricky getting from one class to the next. It does, however, provide shuttle busses from each campus, so if you want you only park once, and shuttle to your next class on the other campus.
Am learning a lot My learning experience has been a great one so far. I leave each class with a new topic to think about, and create my own philosophy on the subject.

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students Make sure you meet with a counselor when you're starting out and don't wait if you plan on transferring. They'll let you know what you need to do and what classes you need to take.
Bang for the buck They urge you to sign up for financial aid and fee waivers. When they have an event going on they make a lot of announcements such as cram night at libraries and the teachers really reach out to you if you have ANY questions and urge you to ask them.
Am enjoying being here Once again the professors are very passionate and make you enjoy what you're learning even if you weren't interested in the subject in the first place. The campus is clean and there is a lot of student activity. They have convenient free shuttles that will take you from one campus location to the next and comes every 10 to 15 minutes.
Am learning a lot The teachers I have met are very passionate about what they teach which clearly reflects on their teaching and helps you understand a subject a lot better. I put what I learn and use it often in my daily lifestyle. I have even thought about changing my major because of a certain cultural anthropology teacher.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students This school is great for students who want to save money and still get a quality education, or plan to transfer. It is also good for people who have been out of school for a while. It also offers online classes, which works for students with busy schedules.
Tips for prospective students Don't buy your textbooks from the bookstore unless you have to. They are very expensive, even the used textbooks. Try renting and checking online sites for better prices.
Bang for the buck The price is going up, but it is still very affordable. Textbooks are the biggest cost.
Am learning a lot All of my teachers really want students to succeed. They have all had office hours and are more than willing to help.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students People who know what they want to do and where they wish to transfer.
Tips for prospective students Talk to a transfer counselor, and make sure youre taking the right classes for your prospective transfer university.
Bang for the buck As a junior college is it a great option, however expect to be there three years.
Am enjoying being here Counselors tend to misguide students, bad communications even between staff members.
Am learning a lot The science and math department and tough but great, really makes you learn your stuff.

Categories Comments Clubs and Activities there is a small number of varied clubs, but not a lot of activities hosted by the school. there is a speech night every week, and sometimes they have science events.
Great for these types of students first-timers, students seeking to finish their general education for a lower cost before moving to a 4-year school, vocational students, and agriculture majors.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus none.
Bang for the buck this is not an expensive school. you get pretty much what you pay for, in most places. some of the professors definitely belong at better schools, though.
What to do for fun there is a theater very nearby, and a local music scene. farmer's market is held a few blocks from the east campus.
Food and Dining not a lot of variety in the cafeterias. the food isn't very healthy. there are quite a few good fast-food places near both campuses, however. east campus has a nice little chinese restaurant across the street from the baseball field, as well as a mexican place.
Dorm Life there is none.
Academic Rigor the workload here is not hard at all.
Tips for prospective students don't get stressed out. this is school going to feel a lot like high school. check ratemyprofessor.com before signing up for classes, and plan to do all of your work to the best of your ability. the professors will really want to help you learn, especially if they see you are doing your best.
In three sentences this is your typical california community college. the professors/facilities are hit-and-miss. however, there is a good group of truly amazing professors employed at this school--always check professor reviews to find them.

Categories Comments Campus Safety i spend most of my time in college, and i believe that they have an incredible security program. fortunately, i have never experienced anything bad, and i hope the same for other people as well. i feel secure, of course, i still take care of my surroundings but this college counts with a very good security body.
What to do for fun i am a person who likes to read science books in my free time. i am a full time student; however, when i go home i like to read anything related to science. another thing that i like to do for fun is to work out. i believe that in order to be emotionally and physically ready to a long journey in life, people must have some type of physical education to maintain healthy and ready for anything.
Food and Dining i like eating lots of vegetables. ever since i was a child, my mother would always feed vegetables to my brothers and me. i like to eat healthy for the reason that i like maintain healthy because i want to do well in school and what a better other way than eating fruits and vegetables.
Dorm Life my parents house is few miles away form college; therefore, i live in my parent's house.
Academic Rigor i am a person who likes to put myself through challenges. i am currently finishing my general aid, and i will start taking science courses starting next semester in order to move to the next step, which is to be in the nursing program in a four year college. one of my goals in life is to become a doctor, and i know that with faith and support i will become one one day.
Tips for prospective students i believe that there aren't really any tips for prospective students because i believe that the secret for a successful life is to focus in what you are doing, and if you are focused, you will find out that you are ready for many things in life.
In three sentences modesto junior college it's a college that truly helped me in my educational life. i came to united states of america not to long ago, and i have to say say that mjc counts with amazing instructors that helped me in a very unique way. i am glad to be attending this college, and i would like to continue my educational life no matter what school i go to.

Categories Comments Campus Safety campus is safe. there are always security guards driving around and in the parking lots. they have phones that you can call in case of anything or just want them to walk you to your car!
Bang for the buck tuition has gone up, like every school in california. but it's worth it if you're going to transfer.
What to do for fun there is always something going on in the quad! whether it's a band playing music or earth day festival.
Food and Dining cafeteria is horrible. never eaten there. might as well drive 5 minutes to taco bell.
Dorm Life no dorms. community college.
Academic Rigor mjc has a great science department and can be pretty tough. make friends with your teachers and adapt to their teaching styles. the school has whole isn't insanely hard, but it's not a piece of cake either.
Tips for prospective students learn beforehand how the whole college thing works. such as classes, prerequisites, and transfer requirements.
In three sentences modesto junior college is a great place to start your college career! with two campuses, old and new, there is much variety and diversity on both. teachers are amazing with such small class sizes.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students MJC is great for students who are hard working and motivated to get their AA or AS degree.
What to do for fun There are always activities to do for fun from sports to theater to speech. Every aspect of someone's interest is either covered in a club or class.
Food and Dining The food and dining in the cafeteria and surrounding areas are amazing. There is a sandwich shop on Tully Road that is to die for. It is called At Home Gourmet.
Dorm Life There is not a dorm life at MJC. This is nice because it keeps the partying off campus, and keeps the focus on school.
Academic Rigor The academic field is huge, and challenging. When challenging is stated, I do not mean to hard, but pushes you to see what you can do, and what you are capable of learning. The teachers and students will help, but you have to ask.
Tips for prospective students When a prospective student applies to MJC, make an appointment with a counselor, to get the right information, the internet can be misleading. Make sure to ask what specific classes are needed, do not try to assume, you will waste money and time. Take advantage of the BOG Fee Waiver, it helps with kids who may not qualify for grants, but dont have money for college.
In three sentences MJC is the path to acceleration, the counselors set you on the right path to your goal. The teachers are personable, and you are not just a number to them. The best thing about MJC is the students, and being able to collaborate together.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck With a price of $46/unit, it is still a better option than going straight to a 4 year university.
What to do for fun There's almost always something fun to do in the quad. Usually clubs have stands for food or music playing.
Food and Dining The food isn't bad. The only unfortunate matter is that most of it is fast food, and the salads cost more than any of the unhealthy stuff (burgers, fries, etc.).
Dorm Life No dorms; community college.
Academic Rigor Most professors are pretty easy. My first year was probably loaded with the most work because I took English both semesters; however, there are tough ones out there. Most of the professors I took were pretty helpful whenever I had any questions about the material.
Tips for prospective students Determine your major as soon as possible. The sooner you do that, the sooner you can contact your transfer schools so you know exactly what courses they will/won't accept. Don't get distracted; if you really want to get out of there in 2 years, it is possible only if you keep focused.
In three sentences It definitely saves you money going here before a 4-year institution. The biggest concern is getting into core classes. Overall, it's not as horrible as people make it out to be.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There are many activities and even more so, clubs all around. There is a gym, a large pool, track, fields, baseball and basketball ones, tennis courts and probably more.
Food and Dining The food is average, there a number of choices, there is a Starbucks in the cafeteria, and the food in the cafeteria is mostly greasy food but there are alternative choices available such as salads and fruits.
Dorm Life I cannot say because I don't live on Campus and I believe you can't here.
Academic Rigor The school is very old, but it has been remodeled and updated, so some sides of the school are old but some are new. New buildings are being built constantly
Tips for prospective students Sign up for classes ASAP, do not fall behind on finding and acquiring classes. Pay attention and do not goof off.
In three sentences The college is great for those who cannot afford colleges that are too expensive. It is accessible to almost anyone, because the college accepts almost anyone, and anyone can have a chance at success. Sometimes it may be difficult to find room for your classes due to overcrowding.

In three sentences There are some great instructors, and they are really willing to help you and easy to follow, but the whole school's system might frustrate students. School is a bit small with huge number of students. I believe this school should rated somewhere between ok and good.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety is very good, there are call boxes throughout the entire campus, and there is always a security guard on site at all times. They will also help you in case your car breaks down or other problems of that nature.
Greek Life The college itself doesn't have a Greek life, but Modesto hold an anual greek festival, which is very pleasing and very entertaining.
Clubs and Activities Modesto Junior college offers plenty of clubs and activities, in which they encourage you to get involved; so that you meet new people and make new friends, but also so that you are involved with your community.
Great for these types of students Modesto Junior College is great for any student who is looking to save money before attending a 4-year college or university. This junior college offers great courses and guides you so that you are able to transfer within two year of attending the college to a 4-year university/college of your choice.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus From what I have heard Modesto Junior College doesn't have any weird or odd traditions, the college is straightforward with pretty much everything that they do.
Bang for the buck Modesto Junior College has very good classes and great instructors, therefore you will be getting a good bang for you buck. The only negative is that since Modesto Junior College is a community college, classes fill up extremely quick, making it hard for the student to register into every class he/she might need to take.
What to do for fun Modesto Junior college is located in Modesto which is a small town that has a lot of places to entertain the common student. There are bowling alleys, movie theaters, and lots of others fun places to stay active and entertained.
Food and Dining The food that is offered at the cafeteria isn't top quality, but it is quite good. They also have small snacks stores throughout the campus which make it easy to grab a bite any time.
Dorm Life Modesto Junior college doesn't offer/have dorms therefore i wouldn't be able to comment on the dorm life.
Academic Rigor Personally, I've yet to attend a class at Modesto Junior College, but from what i have heard from counselors and pier mentors, Modesto Junior College will challenge the student, therefore hard work and dedication will be required in order to succeed.
Tips for prospective students Graduating from High School, I was pretty lost on how college admission and registration would work. Therefore, i decided to apply to the (FYE) program which is the first-year-experience program. After getting accepted, counselors and past students helped and guided me through the whole process of applying to college, making the task smooth and straightforward. I would highly recommend prospective students to join the program, which made the college process a fun and easy experience for me.
In three sentences Modesto Junior College is an amazing community college that will prepare students for a better future in any profession in which they seek a higher learning. The admission process is very simple, and not much is required making the experience quite pleasurable. The current campus is very commendable and admirable, but in the near future it will be even more attractive and gracious as Modesto Junior College is expanding, and there is construction all through out the campus.

Categories Comments Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The school tends to have a lot of outdoor events; they are enjoyable and at times there will be free food and music blast on loud.
Bang for the buck Due to the economy, school fees are raising up and so are textbooks. But if you look at it this way, it should be worth it in the end.
What to do for fun There are gyms where you can work out at or practice dancing, there's the tennis court to play bad mitten or tennis, there's also the swimming pool, the track field for running or playing football and baseball, or there's the lounge area inside the student center and cafeteria where you can just hang out with friends, eat, take naps, or work on school assignments. Inside the lounge area are also arcade machines and computers. The computer lab also has more computers that students can use as well and even in the library.
Food and Dining There is a student center building in the middle of the campus; inside has the cafeteria, food area, lounge area, and the school's Pirates book store where you can buy your textbooks, school supplies, batteries, snacks, and even MJC clothing apparel there.
Dorm Life No dorm rooms on this campus.
Academic Rigor No complaints.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you purchase a parking pass for the entire semester instead or purchasing a one day pass every day. I made that mistake by not buying a one day pass a few times because all I needed to do was drop off papers, and I ended up with parking tickets.... And these tickets have gone up ridiculously high now throughout the years.
In three sentences This school is like any community college; however, it is really pack due to so many students attending. It can be very difficult to enroll in classes you're wanting to take. The campus is nice and spacious and many newly renovated buildings.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety seems to be pretty well. I haven't seen any fights or inappropriate behavior although MJC has experience vehicle break ins, they report it in emails and send it out to everyone who is a student at MJC. You are also given the accommodation of an escort to see you safely to your car, which is nice when you're a female, especially if you have night classes and feel uncomfortable.
Bang for the buck Paying for each class is a reasonable price, and when books are required, we actually use them in class, so you feel that your money was well worth it.
What to do for fun There are many clubs you can join, and sports to join for fun.
Food and Dining I have not taken advantage of the dining during my attendance to school but we do have a nice dining area. there is hot and cold lunch served, multiple seating areas inside and out, and even Starbucks coffee.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is very safe because of the security staff on campus, and the location of call boxes across the campus.
Clubs and Activities There are a lot of different clubs on campus which I can't comment on because I have never participated in them.
Great for these types of students MJC is great for students who live at home and want to save money. Also from my understanding they also have an excellent nursing program.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There aren't that many things that go on on the campus.
Bang for the buck Modesot Junior College is one of the most cost effective educational institutions in the Central Valley, especially compared to other schools.
What to do for fun There isn't much to do for fun in Modesto, really the only things to do are go to movies, or catch the occasional music shows downtown.
Food and Dining There are a lot of restaurants in the area including mexican food restaurants, sandwich shops, and the very popular taco truck.
Dorm Life I have never lived in a dormitory near the MJC campus, so I can't comment on this aspect of the review.
Academic Rigor Studying at MJC is not any more difficult than it is at any other school, your grades reflect how much you put into your work. If you don't study and do your homework, your grades will suffer. If you do do those things than you will succeed.
Tips for prospective students Leave for your class early! Parking is often a problem at the school, especially the East Campus. Stay organized and always do your homework and study before tests, don't try to cram.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus saftey is very seriously taken at MJC. They are good about informing every student of any saftey issues happeing. Although there are many car thefts, the campus saftey is always on guard and anxious to resolve problems.
What to do for fun There are many activities on campus and hangout areas. Frequent blood donations, live music, fundraisers, and more. It is hard to find yourself board at MJC, especially with all the clubs available.
Food and Dining MJC's food is amazing; their prices are not amazing. There is a vast variety of different foods healthy and no healthy, but oh so delicious. If it weren't for the high expenses, I'd eat school food more often.
Dorm Life I do not live in the dorms, nor have I ever been in one. However, I've heard hey are well living conditions. I'm sure the costs are descent.
Academic Rigor Anybody should be able to obtain an education at MJC, for the academic rigor is expanded for all levels. The placement testing helps set one at their level of learning. Classes can be challenging, but are not impossible to pass.
Tips for prospective students A prospective student should take advantage of the guidance clubs that help funding and give priority registration. Just because it's a community college, doesn't mean it is not good. MJC is a place of many fun activities to look forward to.
In three sentences Modesto Junior College has a variety of professors good and bad. The services offered are great benefits for students. It is a very friendly environment with lots of unique people.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There's always security patrolling both campuses and at night if you don't want to walk to your car alone you can call for a security guard or a student volunteer to escort you safely to your car.
Clubs and Activities MJC has tons of clubs and activities that appeal to everyone, such as Anime, environmental, and astronomy clubs.
Great for these types of students MJC is great for people who are outgoing and want to get involved in tons of activities or sports. MJC is also a great place for people that aren't so social and prefer to work from home and are allowed to do so with online classes.
Bang for the buck Even if you don't qualify for the BOG fee waiver, MJC is still cheaper than any four year university or private school. Sometimes books are expensive, but if you know how to use eBay or Amazon you should be able to get some really good deals on your books.
Food and Dining Along with a full food court on both campuses, there's also a Starbucks on East Campus and a taco truck, a convenience store and a Mexican restaurant within walking distance.
Dorm Life MJC does not feature housing.
Academic Rigor Many instructors adjust their grading scale to allow for more passing grades to prevent more students from having to retake classes. Some classes, such as some of the Office Administration courses, are done on your own time and allow you to complete them at your own pace.
Tips for prospective students Don't let anything about MJC intimidate you, whether it's your instructor, the class or the social aspect. Instructors are welcoming and offer help for you classes and your fellow class mates are just as welcoming and willing to help out.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are vehicles that get broken into and even stolen from time to time. But other wise for the student their self the safety is extremely high. I have had several night classes and have never been afraid to walk to my vehicle. We also have lots of campus security everywhere you look, day and night.
Greek Life No idea. I do remember something to do with one of the Greek clubs a while back but did not pay to much attention to it.
Clubs and Activities You just have to know where to look.
Great for these types of students Any and all. We even have many exchange students from all over the world. The majority of them do come from Central America
Bang for the buck As of last year they raised the price per unit. As of now it is $45 a unit.
What to do for fun There are many clubs to get involved with here on campus. As well as in the Ag. department. You can always find something to keep you busy. You just have to know where to look
Food and Dining West campus has good food for a small kitchen. It also serves Starbucks coffee. But as for East campus I am not sure.
Dorm Life There are no dorms for students here. On the other hand there is housing available for Ag. students. But it is very limited and one must work a set of hours on the campus' farm to live there.
Academic Rigor It depends on what classes you take. By far my Earth Science class is one of the most difficult classes you will ever take.
Tips for prospective students Do not be afraid to ask any professor or academic advisor for help. They all care about you and will take time out of their busy schedule to help you.
In three sentences This junior college is by far the best one in the area, comported to Delta in Stockton. The teachers here are very helpful and they care about your success. The students are also different from those you would find else where, they are kind and considerate to others.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus security is very friendly and helpful the only issue is that seeing as the campus is in Modesto, and the city is known for its high theft of cars, especially honda civics or toyota camrys there are cars being stolen in our parking lots or nearby the school.
Greek Life There are a few greek clubs on campus. We have Phi Theta Kappa, Alpha Gamma Sigma, and Chi Alpha. The first two are honor societies for community colleges while Chi Alpha is a religious greek club/fraternity/sorority.
What to do for fun There are several bowling alleys, clubs/bars, and lasertag establishments in the city of Modesto. It also has a lot of hookah lounges that are becoming increasingly popular in the area and with young people.
Food and Dining We have a few restaurants right across the street from both of our campus sites. There are more restaurants and fast food venues close by via a 5 minute drive.
Dorm Life Currently at Modesto Junior college we have student housing that is mostly towards Ag degree students and you must apply to be able to have a chance of doing so.
Academic Rigor The school's academia is good considering it is a community college. Our science and math courses are quite difficult while our social science courses are very informative and interesting. Our arts department has been slashed deeply from these past few years of budget cuts but it is stil doing quite well considering all of that.
Tips for prospective students I suggest taking your English and Math courses during your first semester or as quickly as possible because of those being the most impacted on campus and it becoming increasing difficult to get into those because of it. I suggest getting involved with clubs, programs, the arts, or student government and just enjoying school and meeting new people whenever you can.
In three sentences I think Modesto Junior College is a good community college and I would recommend attending if you are in the nearby area of Modesto. It is a peaceful campus with many clubs and events going on throughout the year. Recently, both of our campuses have been getting updated with our library, the new installation of our student services building, glacier hall, and almost completed science building that will ve state of the art for our science community,

Bang for the buck Fees are reasonable so I'd take as many transferable classes as possible here before transferring.
What to do for fun Plenty of clubs and extra curricular activities.
Food and Dining There are plenty of food choices on campus and near by.
Dorm Life There is no dorm life here.
Academic Rigor The classes I have taken are reasonable difficult, but professors always make sure to supply necessary materials. I'd rate it an overall three and a half stars.

Categories Comments Food and Dining A cafeteria, the Pirate's Galley, is on campus, and it offers regular lunch foods and the college student's quintessential Starbucks coffee. There is also a taco truck across the street which most students frequent.
Dorm Life Modesto JC does not offer dorms, but a lot of students do live in apartments nearby and have favorable experiences with that.
Academic Rigor A lot of the classes are general education, so they do not explore the broad subject with much depth. The work load is definitely doable, as long as you do not exceed 5 classes per semester. Tests are usually easy and based entirely on the notes which should be taken during every lecture class.
Tips for prospective students Actually attend the lectures if you want to succeed. Most of the professors do not require that students come to lecture class, as they usually don't even take attendance, but they definitely will tell you everything you need to know for the tests.
In three sentences The professors here are amazing, incredibly knowledgeable and flexible, and genuinely dedicated to their students. The administration can be difficult to deal with at times, and the website is rather hard to navigate. The amount and variety of classes, though, is incredible.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Nothing bad happens to people really.... Just their personal items or their cars... Add an occasional in-person robbery in there
Bang for the buck It's the cheaper alternative to a CSU. Just make sure you have a full schedule. Sometimes saving time instead of money ends up helping you out in the long run
Food and Dining The food is limited when it comes to eating healthy but hey, they have a Starbucks on campus. There are some really good places to eat within ten minutes of criving
Dorm Life It's a good campus for locals living and home and commuters.
Academic Rigor It really depends on what field and if the teacher is passionate about what they do. I would say about 75% of my 80 units taken at MJC challenged me.
Tips for prospective students The online site Rate My Professor really helps out when trying to decide between classes. Parking is horrible so make sure you get to class with plenty of time. There are some really good clubs on campus that like to help out the community like: Operation Green, Alpha Gamma Sigma and Phi Theta Kappa.
In three sentences It's a small campus. A majority of the classes are waitlisted. There's a high auto theft rate.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students It's pretty diverse. Younger, older. Full-time vs part-time students. It's very different from high school. Like I said, not much experience on West campus but if on East campus, be repared for heavy smoke in some areas..
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I liked East campus best. It's smaller, it's where the sport arenas are (football field, track, tennis, baseball etc.) But West campus is newer construction, more parking I think. The campuses are pretty spaced apart though. So if you have a car/ride great, otherwise there is a shuttle bus that goes back and forth.
Bang for the buck Many financial aid options available, including something called the BOG fee waiver. Units add up and it can get a little pricey with books and all but nothing compared to a four-year.
What to do for fun The Vintage Fair mall isn't too far. Among a few other shops. Of course there are the MJC athletic events to attend.
Food and Dining The food on campus is pretty good. A little bit pricey but that's to be expected. There's a taco truck, a taqueria and a corner store nearby the East campus, I wasn't on West campus so I can't help you there. But food places are just about everywhere. Nothing's too far a drive if you have that option.
Dorm Life Seeing as it's a junior college there are no dorms. At least none that I know of anyway. I lived at home. Modesto is a pretty well populated area, but there are some apartments nearby. I'm just not too sure about their availability.
Academic Rigor It's a good quality education, depending on your instructor. If you can, try asking around for who's the best. (Make sure their teaching style suits you). The math courses are no joke. Stay on top of your classes especially if you have a heavier load and especially if your classes have any online requirements. Stuff can get pretty hectic.
Tips for prospective students Try to enroll as early as possible, and try to find ways to get priority registration (sports, a program called EOPS). The wait-list for classes is ridiculous, especially for core classes. Also, pay attention to your registration time. With a large student body, classes are competitive. Have your money available to pay when registering for classes, they will drop you if you don't pay on time. Major pain in the butt.
In three sentences It's more cost friendly than a four-year. Has a very diverse student population. Good education.
