Categories Comments Great for these types of students Outdoorsie people, out-of-state students, people who are laid back, people who don't mind the cold.
Tips for prospective students Make sure that you can handle cold weather. Winters here get really cold for weeks at a time (we're talking sub-zero here). Be ready to balence school work with all the amazing outdoor activities that you are going to want to do.
Bang for the buck I think that comparitivly to other state schools MSU is priced well. It is a little steep for out of state students but they offer a lot of great scholarships, grants, and loans. The finacial aid office is super friendly and helpful.
Am enjoying being here I love Bozeman. The campus is great everyone one is super friendly and helpful the same thing can be said about the town. It is surrounded by beautiful mountains and amazing outdoor opportunities.
Am learning a lot I've learned so much in all of my classes. Most of the classes after first semester are smaller so the teachers have more time to spend with each student and discussions ensue and are really helpful.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Outdoorsy people, adventurous people, skiers, snowboarders, hikers, science students
Tips for prospective students Come and visit! And ask questions during your visit. Also, be aware that it gets quite cold here, so you'll want warm clothes, and if you're not a snow and freezing temperatures person, you might not like it here. It is beautiful in the winter though!
Bang for the buck MSU is amazing. The classes aren't huge, so it's easier to know a lot or all the people in your class, and it makes the professor and one-on-one time more accessible, which is a big plus. You are also provided with so many resources: the library has a person for pretty much every department who can help you do research or find what you're looking for, there's a Math Learning Center if you need more help in math, there's a Writing Center so you can have someone edit your papers and help you develop ideas and write better. I'm an out-of-state student as well, but I think MSU is definitely worth the money. I do like living on campus, but it's definitely cheaper to live off-campus, and it's definitely preferable to always eating the residence hall food.
Am enjoying being here I love living in Bozeman. It's a great town and the campus is lovely, and it's really easy to find fun things to do. There's a lot of outdoor activities and fun places to explore and new things to try, and most people are very friendly.
Am learning a lot My classes here are amazing. Most professors are really flexible with office hours and love to have students stop by, which is so great. They are such good resources to take advantage of. They also push you to your limits and make you really think about what you know and what you're learning, which makes it that much better.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Any and all don't be afraid to be yourself Bozeman welcomes all types of students.
Tips for prospective students Check us out you will not be disappointed.
Bang for the buck MSU is worth every penny, and I'm an out of state student. This college is defently worth its weight in gold.
Am enjoying being here In Bozeman you can be sure you will never be bored, this college campus has something going on all the time. You can be as involved as you want there is something for everyone. From the 130 different clubs and organizations your sure to find your nitch at this College.
Am learning a lot The Class sizes at MSU are awesome, if you want one on one teacher to student time, MSU has it. Your professors really care about the students and are more then willing to do what it takes to make sure you succeed. Don't ever be afraid to ask these professors anything.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Out-doorsy people, people who are used to sub-zero temperatures, people who like to ride bikes(transportation system is not good).
Tips for prospective students If you are looking for great research or internship opportunities this is the place to be. Montana State is within the Nation's top tier for this! If you are a minority this would be a great place to go if interesting in the hard sciences, math, engineering, etc. But I would also like to add that with the past few years MSU lost about 9 million in funding. This is significant because programs across campus have been cut completely, some altered(budget cuts), some merged into other programs, and some may lose all funding in 2012.
Bang for the buck Tuition for in-state is great for a public university, however other public institutions in Montana have lower tuition rates. Also keep in mind, the tuition is going up each year. With that being said, this tuition is worth it if you are in the Engineering Department or Agricultural Department.
Did enjoy being here The area is great if you are into the outdoors (skiing, snowboarding, hiking, camping, etc). Nightlife is okay. Shopping is not promising. Downtown is good.
Did learn a lot Class sizes are generally small which is good! Most professors are great for meeting up on a one-to-one basis for additional help. If not, there are also the T.A.'s and that may be a hit or miss.

Categories Comments Campus Safety we have our own campus police and we also have emergency phones stationed throughout the campus. also, msu campus is very well lit and you can always call 24/7 for a police escort if you don't feel safe.
Clubs and Activities there's something for everyone, no matter what your interest might be!
What to do for fun there's lots to do for fun around the great community of bozeman, mt in which msu is located. there are 3 ski mountains in the area, as well as lots of outdoor activity access. there's also checking out the historic downtown for shopping and dining. we also have a movie theater and a mall.
Tips for prospective students get involved! getting involved no matter where you go to school is important and will make your college experience that much more remember able and fulfilling.
In three sentences montana state provides great hands-on research opportunity for all of it's students. it also has a very warm and friendly community that surrounds the college and that is also very involved with the school. msu has been a very wonderful experience for me so far!

Categories Comments Great for these types of students MSU is a great school, especially for engineering, architecture, film and agriculture. If any of those fields interest you, appy!
Tips for prospective students Visit the campus one in the fall or summer and once in the winter. It will give you a chance to see what Montana winters are like. If you decide to come here, take your studies seriously freshman year and don't live over in the Hedges....they are not a good learning environment.
Bang for the buck The price is a little steep if you don't qualify for the WUE, but prices are huge everywhere. The point is to go where YOU want to go. Montana State is worth every overcharged penny.
Am enjoying being here I love MSU! It is a beautiful campus, the people are awesome and I wish everyone could find a college match as absolutely specacular as mine.
Am learning a lot No doubt, I am learning a ton! The vacations are longer: Winter break is 17-Jan11 and summer starts May 5. Despite these relatively short semesters, the professors pile on the homework and I think that they truly care about theit students.

Categories Comments Campus Safety they have police escorts for people walking on campus late at night! they are there to help!
Greek Life go for it! you meet all kinds of awesome people, and the community service programs look great on a resume!
Clubs and Activities ask an ra what kind of clubs could be for you. chances, are if you like something, msu has a club for you!
Great for these types of students montana state has things to do for everyone! whether you're looking for fun, an academic challenge, or if you're a ski/snowboarder junkie, montana state university is the place to be.
Bang for the buck be sure to go to the garage soup shack! they have awesome eats for super cheap! don't forget to grab a free coupon book at the msu bookstore at the beginning of each semester! you can save lots with all the coupons in those little books!
What to do for fun go outside and do something! there is so much to do: cross country or downhill skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, ice climbing, sledding, hiking, biking, roadies, swimming (float the river, or chico's or bozeman hot springs), hanging out downtown, or camping(tons of places to do all these things). or if you like indoor activities, try shopping at the mall, going to a movie at the cinema, trying some local cuisine, hitting the msu gym (try the rock-climbing wall, racquetball courts, or pool) or checking out the museum of the rockies just a short walk away from campus!
Food and Dining hannon dining hall has the best food! johnstone is second for best food, and third is miller. believe what i say, thank me later. i typically go to hannon, if you're going to eat food, let it be good food.
Dorm Life dorm life at montana state is well-worth the money you pay to live there! your social life is so much more diverse if you live around other people going to msu. you meet so many people, and you can learn a lot from talking to your dorm mates, ra(resident adviser), and you you'll have more chances to develop friendships for the future. if you want a little more peace and quiet, go for the all-girls hannon or hapner dorms, or the all-guys langford. if you want more of a party-like atmosphere, go for either north or south hedges, or roskie. if you want a cool place to be go for anywhere in or around the johnstone center(lots of older students live there). if you're more academic-based, go for the quads (a lot of honors program students live there). whatever you do, choose the one that suits who you are and what you want from dorm life.
Academic Rigor you don't earn a degree at montana state for nothing! the professors want to see what you can do with the skills you have. they are understanding and will help you out specifically if you just ask, but they really want you to be challenged in college so you're better prepared for what you're going to get after college in the working world. just remember, academic rigor becomes more challenging as you move forward with your major. be ready for it, and learn early how to properly manage your time. also know that your professors want you to succeed just as much as you want to get an 'a'! do the best you can, try not to be stressed, utilize what you learned in high school.
Tips for prospective students 1) get involved! be sure to go to catapalooza at the beginning of fall semester, one of the biggest events on campus. catapalooza takes place right in the center of campus, and has tons of booths with free stuff, info about clubs, sororities, frats, job opportunities and more! it is the perfect time to meet new people and discover everything msu has to offer you for the year! 2) find out what classes require you to be present as part of a grade. not all the professors tell you if your grade is partially determined by particpation or class attendance, so be sure you figure that out before you decide to use your new-found college freedom to hit some fresh powder on the slopes! 3) try not to procrastinate. if you do your homework sooner, the less time you'll spend racking your brain to write your paper at the last minute, and the more time you'll have later for your social life.
In three sentences the campus is set in a beautifully breathtaking area, surrounded by mountains, blue skies, and golden sun-rays. montana state university offers a wide range of exciting majors and classes, taught by witty and understanding professors, for all types of interests; in fact, many of the classes take place in the outdoors! recreational programs, both outdoors and indoors, burst from the seams, providing activities for everyone to enjoy.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students I am a freshmen at MSU and this is the most accessible Town! If you love the outdoors, but don't want to be, In the middle of nowhere, MSU is a great choice. I am an Agriculture student (MSU is well-known for this area of study) and I think that the facilities are first-rate. Bozeman is completely accessible by a free bus system, so there is no need for a vehicle in town. This town is also full of very friendly open people who are PASSIONATE about their town, state, and open lands! If you are interested in a great college with amazing opportunities for outdoor pursuits, Montana State in Bozeman is an excellent choice.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students MSU has a very good Biology department. Their language department is good, and is growing with new languages being added, but regarding linguistic diversity, it is lacking a bit. I have also heard very good things about the Anthropology department, as it's smaller so students have a unique opportunity to be in smaller classes and learn material they otherwise wouldn't in a large, lecture-hall type setting.
Tips for prospective students Do research before applying anywhere, and make sure it's where you want to go. MSU is a great school, but it has a limited amount of degrees and lacks a certain modern edge (though it does seem to be catching up). Not to mention the weather in Montana is often enough to drive students nuts; Some can't handle 9 months of winter cold, so make sure you can without sacrificing your studies. And if it's an option, absolutely try to live and work here to gain residency before enrolling. You'll save yourself a bunch of money, and get more than you paid for in educational quality.
Bang for the buck The overall cost of attendance for MSU is quite good if you are paying in-state tuition prices (which I am). However it is a bit high for out of state attendees. My suggestion is to live here, work for a year to gain residency, and then enroll so as to get the most out of every dollar you pay.
Am enjoying being here The campus is clean, the people are friendly, and the staff is willing to help you every step of the way. Though certain facilities are older, they're well-kept so they aren't dumpy, just aged.
Am learning a lot Though I am only enrolled part time, MSU's language department is extremely well structured, with it's professors being knowledgeable and approachable. If ever there is a misunderstanding within the curriculum, the professors will make time to meet with you, and make sure you understand the material.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Like most Universities, there are specific degree programs that are more popular than others. At Montana State, these are Engineering and Architecture as well as degrees in Applied Sciences. However, because there is such a strong inclination towards engineering, for example, there are other academic programs that have to be prestigious in order to produce competent engineers. For instance I am a pre-med student and this semester I am taking General Chemistry 141, Integrative Physiology 185, Statistics 216, and University Band and am loving every single one of these classes! If you are at all interested in a degree specifically in the math and science fields then MSU Bozeman is the school for you!
Tips for prospective students When you go to apply for any college, there is a TON of information that you need to keep track of. My advice is once you have narrowed down your choices, make a folder and call it your COLLEGE ADMISSION FOLDER and keep EVERY important document regarding you impending admission to college so that you will never have to wonder where a certain document or an important piece of information is. Also, don't stress, because this is the best time you will ever have! :)
Bang for the buck Tuition is a tough ordeal at any college you may attend. But, there is a reason why you are reading my review on the SCHOLARSHIP website. Seriously, take advantage of any scholarship oppurtunities that come your way. Also, there are jobs in town and on campus that are perfect for college students. So, do the most you can to get scholorships and let your grades take care of the rest when you have that perfect job that will take care of your possible remaining student loans.
Am enjoying being here Bozeman and Montana are both amazing. I was born in Great Falls, MT and lived in Fort Benton, MT until I was 17 when I applied for Montana State. I was a ski instructor all through high school and obviously I have continued my passion for skiing down here. There is definitely a reason why the slogan for Montana State University-Bozeman is Mountains and Minds. It's like that one commercial said, Try it, you'll like it!
Am learning a lot I walk out of class feeling competent and accomplished in my field of study. My homework and studying keeps me actively engaged in the material that I am learning so that I not only excel on test scores but also have a fundamental understanding for years to come.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students People interested in the outdoors: There's near world-class skiing/snowboarding opportunities at 3 different mountains here within a 45 minute drive! Yellowstone National Park is a short drive away as well.
Tips for prospective students Take advantage of every opportunity out there! Get involved with programs early on, even if you're not sure that you're all that interested in them. Talk to upper-level instructors as a freshman and get to know them (you'll thank me later). Go to info sessions on studying abroad, orientation leaders, and the sorts.
Bang for the buck MSU has so many great opportunities and is well-known for its engineering program and NASA-related work. To pay what you're paying here for this good of a school is pure luck.
Am enjoying being here The atmosphere is great, as long as you don't mind Montana weather. There are tons of student groups that you can get involved with, and most of the classes are small enough that by the end of the semester, you get to know many of the kids in your classes and in your college or major. It really helps!
Am learning a lot I'm only a freshman, so I'm taking Core classes that seem to be at times repetitive of high school. Once the school year progressed, the learning curve increased and so did my grades--I became more interested in the in-depth information. Most of the instructors really know the material, even the TA/GTA student instructors.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students engineers, nursing, outdoorsy
Tips for prospective students get involved in clubs, there are some really cool thing happening on campus, like the Engineers Without Borders club going to Kenya to set up wells to help provide clean drinking water.
Bang for the buck It is a comparatively cheap college, especially for students that are in-state or are using the western student exchange program
Am enjoying being here It is a relatively small town, with great opportunities for outdoor recreation.
Am learning a lot It is a really good college, especially if you are in the college of engineering, and the college of business is very good as well.

Categories Comments Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Bozeman certainly has a unique personality, with some funky traditions. For example, one exciting tradition is the undie-run. Hundreds of students will strip down to there underwear or swimsuits and race in a one-mile fun run. Brrr!
What to do for fun Bozeman has endless possibilities for fun, especially for those who like a little adventure. There's hiking, biking, skiing, running, fishing, hunting, shopping, and just about anything else you can think of. And one of the best parts about all these activities is you can almost always find another motivated person or persons to go enjoy it with you!
Food and Dining Montana State University's food options may not be the best-of-the-best, but options are certainly available and if you need anything in particular, they will make it available to you.
Dorm Life Dorm life if fun and very social! There's dorms and floors with themes so if you'd like to be surrounded by other outdoor enthusiasts, architectural students, or whatever it is you're looking for, you can find your place!
Academic Rigor School is what you make of it, and Montana State University can certainly offer you rigorous courses, especially in the sciences. One of the great things the university offers is help centers for many of the courses. So, if you find yourself in a particularly hard math class, for example, you can go to the math help center and get as much support as you need!
Tips for prospective students The biggest challenge new students will find, in my opinion, is the balance between play time and study time. In Bozeman, the options for play time has an exhausting list and it can be easy to blow off school work. Be aware of this, and try develop some kind of schedule that can maximize your fun-time without sacrificing your grades.
In three sentences Montana State University has a very inspiring feel to it. Not only am I surrounded by motivated learners on a daily basis, I am also surrounded by intriguing landscapes that constantly reward my efforts. I've found my niche in the Earth Sciences program, and am enthusiastic to learn all I can.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I always feel safe on campus no matter how late at night I walk around. Granite you shouldn't be out at night by yourself. But on the occasional nights when I have a meeting, I feel safe.
Clubs and Activities The swing dancing is definitely fun! They do it every Friday night at the SOB Barn.
Great for these types of students Everyone! What I love about this school is it's about WHO you are not what you wear or how you look.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Each dorm has a traditional event, which you MUST go to. Every event is different and most are for charity, so you get to have fun while supporting an organization!
Bang for the buck Although it is one of the pricier schools in Montana the classes are not that big. I had one class that only had 16 students in because they wanted it to be more personal and have your voice be heard. I love that! Most colleges the size of this school would just pack as many people as they can in a class. Of course the lecture courses are a lot bigger, but in most of the other classes they are personal and you get to meet a lot of great people that way.
What to do for fun Again go to as many of the campus or dorm events as you can.
Food and Dining The food is pretty decent for being dorm food. If you get bored with one hall, go to another. It's fun to rotate which dinning hall you go to. They each serve different things, which is really nice compared to eating ramen noodles every night!
Dorm Life Get involved! I joined RHA (Resident Hall Association), they are always doing events! It's a great chance for you to meet new people from your dorm or from other dorms. There's always something going on, I definitely recommend going to the events as much as possible, even if the event is being held at another dorm.
Academic Rigor Some classes give you a bit of a challenge and others don't. But all in all make sure you take the right classes and don't bite off more than you can chew.
Tips for prospective students Don't be afraid to talk to your professor or your advisor. They're to help! & they are very understanding as well.
In three sentences It is an amazing campus! With a great staff and students! I fell in love with the campus and the school itself.

Categories Comments What to do for fun montana has just about everything, except an ocean. within thirty miles are three ski resorts and several mountain ranges. there are several rivers for fishing, mountains for hunting, skiing, biking, hiking, and a very large lake nearby for plenty of summer swimming, boating and fishing.
Food and Dining excellent dining options here at msu. there are three full service cafeterias, and several places to get a quick bite to eat. the food is good, with a lot of healthy eating choices, including gluten free.
Dorm Life the dorms are clean, safe, secure, and fun. there is no better environment for a first year college student to come into and live in than the msu dorms, and there is nothing but opportunity to meet new people and develop new relationships.
Academic Rigor courses range from difficult to less, but no matter the course, there is plenty of self reward for your effort.
Tips for prospective students attend class, and join an extracurricular activity. there are ample amount of opportunities out there available to anyone, and you will make friends within the hour you are settled in here.
In three sentences montana state is an open, fun loving university that provides an excellent academic environment. there is a vast disversity in the people that attend and the courses offered. the university itself is set in one of the most beautiful montana landscapes imagineable.

Categories Comments Clubs and Activities there are many different clubs for almost very interet and the people in clubs are very nice and helpful. if there isnt a club for your interest then it is pretty easy to start a new club.
What to do for fun bozeman is a great place to live if you like the outdoors. there is a numerous amount of outdoor events to do. if not then you better like to drink.
Food and Dining the dining halls have a great variety of food including options for vegetarians and those with allergies. there is always something that you will want to eat because they also have burgers or a sandwich bar.
Dorm Life the dorms offer a lot of great activities to do with new people and have various, fun competitions. you also have to share a bathroom with a least 15 other people and you have just a little space for yourself.
Academic Rigor msu is a great place to study especially for those interested in the fields of science. all of your specific classes will be small and allow for a better learning environment. msu also has some very state of the art buildings which are really nice to have.

Categories Comments Campus Safety i have never felt anything less than 100% secure
Greek Life i will never do that, but friends say it is wonderful
Clubs and Activities loads for every interest
Great for these types of students ski bums, music tech heads, art graphic design prospects
Bang for the buck for such a cheap school, you know what you are getting from the great staff.
What to do for fun bozeman is the greatest town ever. the people are the best yo could meet, and the music is fantastic. the skiing and snowboarding are really great here living by so many ski resorts.
Food and Dining food is good for what it is, if a little overpriced at times.
Dorm Life dorm life is good i hear, and i have visited a few times, but never stayed in the dorms myself.
Academic Rigor i am working 32 hours a week with 12 credit hours and don't sleep or have friends. overall the best time ever regardless.
Tips for prospective students study piano and hardcore music theory beforehand. the first year is hard.
In three sentences great staff and good people for the most part. the only thing is that the music technology department especially and the music department overall is way underfunded. the music dept. is getting more funds for a bigger marching band next year, but music technology always seems a little underrated, when i am having the time of my life.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are blue lights placed across campus to help. There are also tons of lights everywhere and the university has its own police department.
Greek Life Pretty bad. There is nothing superb about it. They have parties but other than that aren't big at all.
Clubs and Activities Hundreds. Whatever you are interested in you can find it. Medieval club, fencing, chess, IEEE, Engineers Without Borders, etc...
Great for these types of students Great for outdoorsy people. Great for people who love random weather.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There are tons you just need to come to figure them out. For example egg jousting is fun. There is also a date auction which is super popular.
Bang for the buck It truly is a nice school. Everyone is nice and willing to help. To put it simply it is a pretty large school with a small campus feel.
What to do for fun Swing dancing, parties,etc... Lots of outdoorsy things such as rock climbing, bouldering, ice climbing, biking, lots of skiing. There is something for everyone to do here... except maybe go shopping.
Food and Dining Not superb but not terrible. They are revamping it supposedly. They just renovated some of them so they look super cool.
Dorm Life There are weekly activities which are put on by each individual hall. Go there and meet tons of people. Also, get to know your Resident Adviser they are there to help you out.
Academic Rigor Academics aren't super terrible just make sure you sit down and do your homework. They don't overload you with much so just do what you are assigned right away. Procrastination will kill you.
Tips for prospective students They start placing people into the residence halls as soon as March so sign up early for housing in order to get the placement you want. Make sure to ask questions because everyone is willing to answer but they won't really double check to make sure everyone is doing fine. Talk to your professors.
In three sentences It is a nice, homey town. Everyone here is really nice. Definitely go here if you like the outdoors.

Categories Comments Campus Safety This is as safe as it gets. Watch out for bears and mountain lions in the mountains. That's it.
Greek Life There is Greek life, but it is not as prevalent as at other schools. A couple sororities and fraternities are amazing though.
Clubs and Activities Anything you can imagine. Honors societies, environmental issues, engineers without borders, sports clubs, gaming clubs, charity volunteers, etc. And if it doesn't already exist, making an official club is easy.
Great for these types of students Outdoors enthusiasts
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus For homecoming every year, hundreds of people participate in a race around campus in school-colored underwear, usually in the snow.
Bang for the buck This is a semi-rural state school and it gives you the best education you could hope for. And most graduates are incredibly well-rounded since they had to make time to get in their outdoor recreation time. The faculty is wonderful and the class sizes are smaller than you see at many other universities.
What to do for fun Get out and hike, ski, hunt, fish, raft, float, ice skate, etc. anywhere in the surrounding area. You will have no shortage of people to accompany you. There are also some inexpensive cooking classes as well as recreational trips associated with the university. Going to Yellowstone is popular. Sports event in the cold are awesome since you have to get really into them to keep warm! Intramural sports are also great. You don't have to have any experience; just be ready to have fun.
Food and Dining The food is as good as you can expect for dorm food and there are quite a few options.
Dorm Life They help you network early on so that you have a good awareness of your peer group. The RAs are awesome and well equipped to help you with any problems you could possibly have. The rooms are a little small, but if you embrace it you'll have tons of fun.
Academic Rigor I'm in Chemical Engineering, which many people consider the hardest major on campus, and I still find time to do other things and have time to myself. If you're motivated, you can get any degree you want here. If you want an extra challenge, you can definitely find it.
Tips for prospective students Get involved early on in clubs and organizations even if you feel like you need some time to acclimate. It's worth it. Also if you don't like the snow or cold, you probably shouldn't come here. We get a ton of both.
In three sentences It's a great place for outdoor recreation fanatics. Easy to network between majors for a well-rounded, fun group of people. Faculty almost always eager to go the extra mile to help you succeed.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There is ample skiing, climbing, running, biking, kayaking, fishing, etc. around Bozeman. If you're into the outdoors, look no further than MSU. What Bozeman lacks in culture it makes up for in the sheer depth of it's mountains and rivers. There isn't much for live entertainment in town, so prepare to travel if you're wanting to see shows.
Food and Dining The cafeteria service at MSU is decent. Hannon Hall and the Student Union serve up the best variety and food, while the North and South Hedges cafeteria feels more like feeding time at the zoo during major meals.
Dorm Life The dorms are comfortable, but still dorms. Some of the dorms have recently seen renovations though, and there is certainly no lack of excitement to be had in Roskie Hall and North and South Hedges.
Academic Rigor They say education is what you make of it, and this is certainly true at MSU. Their is truly no limit to the progress you can make if you're willing to engage in every resource the university has to offer.
Tips for prospective students Get in touch with MSU today if you're interested in any of the areas of study or programs they offer. For engineers and architects, this school is excellent. They also offer a wide range of agricultural studies.
In three sentences Montana State University was my first and only choice for undergraduate studies. The school is strong in its academics, but excels at being a place where one can lead a balanced life in study and play. I've enjoyed every bit of my experiences at MSU and would recommend the school to anyone looking for a great education in a wonderful community.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are police around campus pretty much all the time, and stationed at intervals are emergency call boxes. You can also call and ask to be escorted if you have a late class. I read the crime reports every weekend, and I never really hear about anything bad. Just stupid college stuff for the most part. I feel really safe here.
Clubs and Activities There's always something fun going on! And there's bound to be a club for everyone. They also have a really easy way to form a new club if you don't find the one you're looking for. The clubs tend to be pretty small though, which I don't like as much.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus One of my favorite places on campus is the Leigh Lounge, which is basically just a big room with a fireplace, filled with comfy couches and chairs that people go take a nap in. The best place to go during hot months is the EPS building, or the engineering building with the rotating noodle. It's the best air conditioned place, and it has an awesome huge touch screen that you can use for the internet, to view student projects, or use google earth.
Bang for the buck MSU has great programs in all of their offered majors along with significant research opportunities and tuition is really relatively cheap. There's so much MSU has to offer. It's really hard not to find something that you'd like to take part in.
What to do for fun Outdoorsy stuff, of course. There are some really great trails that lead right into the mountains about a half mile from campus. They're literally some of the most beautiful sites I've ever seen. I love taking a nice bike ride around town, or through the parks past the hospital. Fly fishing, skiing/snowboarding, rafting, horseback riding, and lots of other activities are also really popular. Downtown is almost always buzzing with activity too. It's not busy, but there's pretty much always something going on, whether it's a festival, or the farmer's market, or local music in a cafe, there's lots of inexpensive things to do. If you're more into the party scene, the local fraternities and sororities usually have something fun, like black light parties, foam parties, etc. And, naturally, there's a TON of campus activities going on all the time! Football/sports games, the fitness center is awesome (the whole thing is practically brand new), the rec center in the Strand Union Building is really cool, they have video games, bowling, movies, and an arcade.
Food and Dining The food, for the most part, was pretty decent. It's still dorm food, so you can't really have that high of expectations, but I was pleasantly surprised. There's 3 dining halls on campus: Hannon, which has the best quality food (especially at mealtimes, other times it's not so great and there's virtually nothing to choose from), Langford, with decent food but is open late, and Miller, which has pretty good food and by far the widest selection throughout the day. They keep the dining halls really neat, and they look relatively modern, especially Miller, which they recently renovated. Miller also has a circular sphere, so it has the best views. I'd say it's my favorite of the three.
Dorm Life The dorms were awesome. They are well-kept and up to date, there's always opportunities to meet people, and MSU does a great job of facilitating fun activities. The downside that I didn't like was that they don't have air conditioning and some of them don't have carpeting. They also have a new dorm called the Freshmen Apartments. I stayed in them but I don't think I'd recommend it. I didn't know any of my neighbors, I was a 10 min walk from campus and dining halls, and we had to buy a dining pass even though we had a kitchen. On the plus side though, I had 4 other roommates that I loved and got really close to, and we had an apartment all to ourselves. Beware of the internet though. They have a lot of bugs to figure out with the wifi. It's best in classrooms.
Academic Rigor One of MSU's great traits is that it's a big school with small class sizes, which is always a plus. Mostly only first and second year classes are bigger, but I don't think there are any bigger than 300. All of mine in the engineering department are less than 50 (most less than 30), excluding core classes. Mostly, it's as difficult as you make it. The classes are relatively easy or difficult depending on what you're good at, but the professors are awesome. They're always around to help out with difficult material, or if you're really good at the subject, they're a great source for advanced work.
Tips for prospective students Explore your potential major(s) before attending college. You have to declare a major at orientation, and it's a bit frustrating to change. MSU, like pretty much every school out there, has a fairly regimented course schedule for majors. They're all supposed to take 4 years. Also, MSU takes pretty much all AP credit, so take as many as you can to get all of your core classes out of the way. One of the most common complaints for underclassmen is having to repeat certain courses. If you need it though, make sure you take it. It's a bad idea to skip something unless you're comfortable with it. College isn't like high school where you can learn it and then forget it. Everything you learn builds on the knowledge before it, so make sure you get it down and right the first time.
In three sentences Not too big, not too small, MSU has virtually all of the advantages of a major university without many of the disadvantages. It is extremely affordable, both the cost of living in Bozeman and because of generous scholarship opportunities. Bozeman is also by far the most gorgeous place I've ever seen.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Really safe campus, I always walk my girlfriend home at night time, but just because I wouldn't be able to live with myself if something did happen.
Clubs and Activities lots of clubs and activities going on all the time just have to find the one that suites you!
Great for these types of students all kinds, especially engineering student!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus lots of great art work around campus to check out, and the mountains all around are just amazing!
Bang for the buck Really good price for a great school, only complaint is how much it cost for room and board, but only have to live on campus yours first year, so not too bad.
What to do for fun hit the slopes, go to the rec. center on campus (bowling, billiards, other games), go to the movies, have dances a lot, and get late night bites with friends!
Food and Dining Dining hall food is dining hall food, but there is an amulet bar every morning in Miller dining hall that is extremely delicious, they make amulets, and eggs to order every morning. Lunch and dinner are average i would say.
Dorm Life Well the dorm life isn't bad, mostly quiet at nights, and enough room to live comfortably, but the beds are rough and bathrooms are average. The laundry room is in the basement in my dorm (North) which is really nice, but sometimes all the machines are full, so if there were some more put in that would be nice.
Academic Rigor I probably didn't study as much as i should have, but there is definitely challenging work ahead, and my first semester wasn't a walk in the park..
Tips for prospective students Apply for housing EARLY! I live in North and its a little dated, but is connected to dining hall which is really nice during the winter. It does get pretty cold in Bozeman, so bring plenty of warm clothing for winter time, recommend snowboarding or skiing the slopes are great, and my favorite place to eat is the garage, they have great burgers, pulled pork sandwiches, soups, and aren't very expensive! Great place for a casual date or to go with friends if your getting tired of the dinning hall food! Kathy makes the best amulets in miller for breakfast, so i recommend North, or South Hedges if you want a great breakfast everyday!
In three sentences Beautiful, beautiful campus, the foot ball field is awesome, GO CATS! Lots of really nice people, dorms are a little small but very livable, they gym is high caliber! Overall been a great experience for me!

Categories Comments What to do for fun I window shop, drive around, spend time with friends and do random things with them.
Food and Dining The dinning halls are average and some stuff is better than the others. The other food things on campus are good.
Dorm Life I have enjoyed living in the dorm being close to my classes and on campus all the time. Some of the dorms have been remodeled and look nice.
Academic Rigor The academics at the university are great. Most of the classes are fun and some can be challenging but you can get through them. The teachers are nice and willing to help you succeed any way possible.
Tips for prospective students Apply early for the scholarships you are more likely to get accepted figure out housing and also get better scholarships. Stay on top of your classes try not to fall behind in then if you do it is a step climb to get back to where you need to be.
In three sentences I really like the living options that are offered on campus. The tutoring program that is offered through the university is nice since you get two free hours a week. I would not want to change where I am going to school it is nice to be in the open air.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students MSU is best for science majors, in particular for engineers. We have wonderful facilities but lack for any other field.
Tips for prospective students Ask around about your TA's if you have the opportunity of choosing one. A TA will make or break a class for you. Also ask about the personality of each dorm. Don't ask your tour guide though as they are required to say nice things. Each dorm is very different and being placed in the wrong one can make life difficult. Walk around and ask students hanging out in the lobby.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students The school is really research orientated, and is one of the best architecture schools in the country. Outdoorsy students will fit right in, there are so many outdoor opportunities in the area that it takes more than one year to do them all!
Tips for prospective students Be prepared for a cold winter, but the skiing is so good that you hardly notice the cold! The people are extremely nice and friendly, making new friends and leaving your comfort zone is easy.
Bang for the buck It's a little expensive for out of state students, but programs like WUE make it more manageable.
Am enjoying being here Bozeman is BEAUTIFUL! The people are so nice and the area offers so much natural beauty and fun for all seasons.
Am learning a lot The classes feel intimate, even though some are very large. The professors want to get to know you and help you out. I felt like I learned more freshman year than in all of high school, both school related, as well as socially!

Did enjoy being here Overall, Bozeman is paradise if you enjoy the outdoors and a laid-back environment. Also, if you love dogs, it's a great place to live!
Did learn a lot MSU was my only choice for college, though I am not unhappy with that choice. Most of the faculty were very helpful and, if you should some initiative, they really would go out of there way to help you learn material.

What to do for fun Go outside! Three ski hills within a couple hours' drive and great hiking or biking trails all over Bozeman. Check out a football or basketball game for free/cheap with a student ID card.
Food and Dining Avoid the dining on the west side of campus if you can. Generally the specialty meal days are all right, however the school is a bit lacking in variety and there are no fast-food venues on campus - all the shops in the food court are owned by the university and will feed you basically the same food that is in the cafeteria that day.
Dorm Life Good sense of community in many of the dorms, however the Resident Advisors seem to run a very tight schedule and can be difficult to track down for questions/advice/etc.
Academic Rigor Professors expect excellence from their students, however, if you talk to them most are willing to meet you halfway. They are generally willing to help, especially if you display interest in the class. Participation is a must!
Tips for prospective students Take a look at all the degrees offered, and don't be afraid to explore! If you're not sure, try several different types of classes, or plow through your CORE credits.
In three sentences Although it's a small school, MSU offers a lot of great programs and a great emphasis on research. The tuition is very reasonable, the recreation is fantastic, and the student body is welcoming. All-around a good choice if you know what you want out of your school.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Montana State University has their own police department on campus. The officers only patrol campus and take care of campus issues. Along with that there are emergency phones in many locations across campus that you can use anytime you need to contact UPD.
Greek Life There are many fraternities and sororities that you can join. Recruiting begins in the fall of each year.
Clubs and Activities Like I said there are intramurals you can join. Also there are over 244 clubs affiliated with MSU that you can join. This doesn't include off campus activities you can become a part of.
Great for these types of students Any student can fit in at MSU, you just have to have an open mind and be willing to dive into what Bozeman and Montana State University have to offer.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There are many art galleries on campus you can go visit and they usually have a new exhibit each month. Football is a huge thing in Montana and especially at MSU. The Cat/Griz game is the most looked forward to game all year long. There's also the Undie Run and many other campus-wide activites.
Bang for the buck Montana State University could probably lower their fees slightly and still make enough money and in turn gain more students since they'll actually be able to afford the school. Also out of state tuition is pretty outrageous, but that's the way it is almost anywhere anymore I guess.
What to do for fun There's so much to do in the Bozeman area. There are two different ski resorts: Big Sky and Bridger Bowl. It's an outdoor place: you can hike, bike, swim, fish, float the river or just head out and play any game you want. There are intramurals you can join. School spirit is big at MSU, especially for football. The downtown area is great entertainment as well.
Food and Dining The food in the dining halls is not as bad as you'd think for having to serve thousands of students every day. There's many options for those looking to eat healthier, vegetarian or just looking for something different. They also work with you if you have food allergens.
Dorm Life Certain facilities are kind of small, but with the right attitude and organization it works perfectly. There's a hall for every single person. Also the Resident Advisers and Resident Directors work with you to help you with whatever it is you may need during your stay on campus your first (or second, third or fourth) year on campus.
Academic Rigor At Montana State University they really strive to challenge you but at the same time they provide you with the resources to overcome those challenges and in turn learn so much and grow as a person.
Tips for prospective students I would definitely suggest visiting campus and taking a tour whether it's an MSU Friday or if you actually call and set up an individual appointment. Also be prepared for a difficult but great experience your freshman year. It's much different than high school, but so much better on so many levels.
In three sentences Montana State University is a large university that has many colleges within. Within each college they care about each individual student and their success within the program. MSU has a great location, great programs, and great opportunities for everyone.

Dorm Life Many of my friends say that the dorms are very nice at MSUB. One problem I see with them is that they are too expensive though. I think that I will most likely be living off campus.
Academic Rigor I gave five stars simply because I do not know completely the academic rigor. My friends very much like their teachers however, and do not think that classes are too impossible.
Tips for prospective students Look at tuition costs before applying. I would also advise to apply for many scholarships. Lastly I would say that math is important at MSUB, and because of this I would suggest taking algebra 2 in high school.
In three sentences I think Montana State Bozeman looks like a great school to attend. I am currently studying at a college that I am not enjoying, but I am planning on transferring to Bozeman soon. I do not know what to rate Bozeman as I have not attended yet.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck You simply won't find another school with the bang for the buck that MSU has. It has both great academics and out of the classroom opportunities. Its science and engineering programs are fantastic because when it comes to research, according to the Carnegie Institute, MSU has the same level of research activity as the heavy hitters of Harvard and Carnegie Mellon. Doing research as an undergrad is commonplace here and MSU has produced multiple Goldwater Scholars as well as a Rhodes Scholar.
What to do for fun MSU and Bozeman offer a phenomenal number of things to do for fun. In the winter, there is ice-skating, sledding, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, winter camping, and so many more. There are three major ski areas within driving distance including Bridger Bowl, Moonlight Basin, and the famed Big Sky Resort. Once the weather warms up, people start hiking, biking, kayaking, rafting, fly fishing and soooooo much more. For fun, Main Street offers a decent selection of bars and pubs for those of age and every Friday night, the MSU Swingcats offer a free Country Western swing dance.
Food and Dining Bozeman offers a great selection of restaurants and just exploring some of the local food like bison burgers at Ted's Montana Grill on Main Street can be a blast. Bozeman also offers vegetable and grocery co-opts. The food in the dining halls is pretty good but sooner or later you will get tired of it and want to branch out.
Dorm Life Dorm life at MSU is fantastic. The rooms themselves, especially in the high rise buildings of Roskie and North and South Hedges tend to be a little small, but the community aspect of these buildings is unbelievable. Each week the RAs on each floor will hold a floor event for residents, for example a movie night, pizza party, gym or game night. These events are aimed at introducing floor mates to each other and fostering friendships. In addition, the Residence Hall Association, a panel of elected students, organizes building events each week which have included Fear Factor, Floor vs. Floor Tug of War, and Karaoke to name a few. Overall, the residence halls at MSU foster a great sense of community and will help you meet new friends.
Academic Rigor Having a good academic program at MSU is one of the main goals of the university. Most of the professors on campus are invested in your education, offering office hours and are willing to set up other meetings if the posted hours do not fit your schedule. In addition, the Office of Student Success offers free group and one on one tutoring to all students. Also, many of the large lectures have help centers where a student can go seek help from a TA in math, chemistry, physics and other classes. College classes are supposed to be hard, and oftentimes can be frustrating but MSU has support systems in place where if you are willing to put in the effort, you can achieve your desired grade.
Tips for prospective students Come with an open mind and heart. MSU hosts a student body from around the country and around the world. Students come from a variety of backgrounds and hold a variety of viewpoints but the unifying force on campus is a love of the outdoors and a love of blue and gold. Try something you've never done before like fencing, kayaking, or the European martial arts club, you'll be amazed at the people you meet and skills you gain.
In three sentences Montana State is a great university. Located in Bozeman and surrounded by the Crazy, Gallatin, and Bridger mountain ranges, it offers a unique combination of stellar academics and outdoor recreational opportunities. At MSU, you will find a balance of academia and real world experience.

In three sentences Bozeman is a great town to be in, because of all the outdoor opportunities. The University is not without it's frustrations and red tape, but all in all its a great place to go to school. I think they are a understaffed however, for all the expansion they are doing.

Categories Comments Campus Safety A couple assault incidents keep this from being a 5 star rating but the campus police are quick to help so just give them a buzz at any time! Poles with red and blue buttons call regualar or campus poilice! so if you dont have a phone and are being stalked or something race for one of these!
Greek Life Not too popular with the older students but it was at the beginning of my career

Food and Dining Great food first semester but second semester dropped off quit a bit
Dorm Life Dorm life is great! Meet tons of new people and the events help with that at first. Eventually youll become too cool for the dorms around sophomore year though haha!
Academic Rigor This is a pretty tough school but not as hard as very prestigious schools. You may be surprised though
Tips for prospective students Find scholarship help somewhere! FAFSA as well
In three sentences Montana State University is the most exciting and well developed place for a student attempting to play football at the Division 1 level. With an entire state behind their two teams, U of M and MSU, I feel like a celebrity everywhere I go, even if I do not play yet. I have met some of the most dedicated and loving teachers here and really want to come back for my sophomore year, but I'm afraid I cannot afford it without help!

Categories Comments Campus Safety MSU is a very safe campus, day or night. The campus is very well-lit and there are emergency stations in various locations if a situation does arise. The campus police are on patrol at all times and provide a 24/7 escort service upon request.
Clubs and Activities MSU has over 100 registered clubs and organizations so there is something for everyone
Bang for the buck The tuition payed by MSU students goes towards many things including a lot of great programs for students, such as an on-campus movie theater, help centers for students, and ASMSU Entertainment, which schedules concerts and other events that happen right on campus.
What to do for fun Skiing and snowboarding...obviously. There is also tons of hiking places from beginner to expert level. The town of Bozeman puts on a lot of great events and there is always something happening on campus.
Food and Dining The dining halls actually serve good food. There is always a large variety. They are also really great about getting special products if you have certain dietary needs.
Dorm Life Living in the dorms is require for all freshman, but I would recommend it for at least a semester anyways. There is a place for everyone and it is a really great way to get involved on campus.

Greek Life The girl's houses are kept clean. The guy's houses are more wild and dirty.

Great for these types of students If you like a quiet area to study go to the third floor of the library.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Homecoming week is full of fun, get involved.
Bang for the buck The education you receive is worth the money!
What to do for fun There is great skiing and hiking.
Food and Dining I am not a fan of the food. In the university's defense it is a big campus. Dessert is usually good and pizza. Also the salad bar is fine.
Dorm Life Socially, the dorms are pretty good. However, I do not like the small rooms. I would recommend paying a little extra for a single room.
Academic Rigor I think that as long as you keep organized and you do not procrastinate homework assignments the work is not that bad. Communication with professors is key.
Tips for prospective students Communication is key along with organization of hw and time.
In three sentences The education is great, sometimes the classes can be a bit large for one on one interactions. Social life is wonderful, you will meet great people. The dorms are probably the worst part.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus police are always patrolling.
Greek Life Don't have any experience with greek life.
Clubs and Activities There are a lot of activities going on every day on campus and the clubs are really welcoming.
Great for these types of students Partiers and studious students, depends on where you spend your time.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is an undies run in September where everyone goes running in their underwear even when it's snowing.
Bang for the buck For out of state students it is very expensive to go here but the education provided is worth it.
What to do for fun Go hiking in all of the mountains around the campus and go for walks around town.
Food and Dining The food is so so almost everyday except for Fridays when it is really good. Weekend food is the worst.
Dorm Life It enables a lot of social interaction but the dorms aren't very large and the bathrooms sometimes get crowded.
Academic Rigor Classes are definitely challenging, keeping up with the classes and studying for exams will help to pass them.
Tips for prospective students Take naps during the day to compensate for lack of sleep at night.
In three sentences The teachers make themselves available for the students, they are very flexible in their office hours. The dorms are fun to stay in but they get to be very noisy at night. The people you meet at Montana State University will definitely change your life.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus police are a division of the local Bozeman police, but that doesn't mean they're tougher than normal. Actually, I've experienced the opposite. They're very oriented towards keeping everyone safe, and will only arrest the most belligerent of people when they break up parties, and can even be called up when you're too drunk to drive and take you home. If you're not obvious about your illicit activities they'll be reasonable. They also want to be sure you feel safe and anytime you don't, call the Uni. Police up and they'll do their best and take you where you need to go, either by car or by foot.
Great for these types of students Those who want to live and breath outdoor recreation would love this university. The research-oriented education also will welcome those who like to explore various topics either within their field or outside of it.
What to do for fun Outdoors! The fresh air and the endless places to go make Bozeman a wonderful place. Go on day hikes, weekend camping trips, and take advantage of Bridger Bowl for your skiing needs. The town itself has a lot of events as well, so be sure to check out flyers and the paper to make sure you aren't missing out on anything fun.
Food and Dining I don't know how it racks up against other schools, but the food at MSU is not great. Avoid Miller Dining Hall at all costs and try your best to make it over to Hannon where the food seems to be prepared with more care and the menus have more variety. If you're a vegetarian, be ready for bland food and a lot of salads in your future.
Dorm Life The dorms themselves are a bit shoddy, but the people you meet there will definitely make up for that. Watch out for some RAs, they tend to believe they are the police of the dorms and I have seen them right up people for their first noise complaint warning just because they're crabby. I think the actual police are more lenient than the RAs...
Academic Rigor It's rather average and the students tend to set their pace. Be warned though, missing class will definitely hinder your grade and abilities in the classroom, so don't get stuck with that problem.
Tips for prospective students Really embrace the campus when you get there. It's fairly easy to get in, but don't completely lost in the outdoors of Bozeman and remember your studies are more important than hitting every powder day. Explore your options and keep in touch with your professors and you'll surely be successful.
In three sentences The open air reflects the open minds of the professors and students. A friendly atmosphere accompanies a relaxed campus. Professors aim to send students in the right direction with as much knowledge as possible.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are emergency posts around campus, even though it is fairly small for a state school. Walking through the campus late at night I felt perfectly safe. Campus police are on call 24/7 and can be easily reached. The dorms are locked down past 10pm and require an ID to even enter them. Every visitor is checked in and has to be accompanied by a resident.
Bang for the buck I think MSU has a great value in their classes and on campus living environments
What to do for fun There is so much to do for fun around Bozeman. There's Bridger bowl ski hill 30 minutes out of town, multiple clubs in the downtown strip, beautiful nature walks in all sorts of environments as well as the Museum of the Rockies.
Food and Dining The dining halls have a variety of food, sometimes very good and sometimes outright bad. The good thing is if the main meal is something that you can't stand, there's always a salad bar, sandwich bar or taco bar.
Dorm Life Themed dorm floors and a supportive staff help make the dorm living friendly and fun. I lived on a themed floor and became friends with almost everybody on that floor.
Academic Rigor Classes are demanding, but they aren't so hard that they are impossible to achieve a grade in.
Tips for prospective students When you enter, especially if you're staying in a dorm, make sure to have a good balance of social interaction with your schoolwork. You don't want to be too far either way.
In three sentences Resourceful and available professors can help students maintains a good scholarly attitude. The open skies and cool weather makes for excellent studying atmospheres. There are also many activities to do on and off campus, from sports to concerts to computers.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I have never felt unsafe on campus and the security in place is new and top-quality.
Greek Life I don't know much about MSU's Greek Life.
Clubs and Activities Tons of things to do!
Great for these types of students Outdoor people will love Bozeman! The campus and the community are focused on being out in the beautiful country side of Montana. It is easy to find your outdoor passion out in Bozeman!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus None that I know of!
Bang for the buck As an out-of-state student, I was very concerned about being able to pay for tution. I applied for the WUE and received that and that helped me out alot. Unfortunately, I am still searching for more money!
What to do for fun There is so much to do in Bozeman! There is a great downtown, and camping and snowboarding are 45 minutes away, tops.
Food and Dining So far I've liked it, but I haven't eaten there very many times. I really like all of the cafes and sandwich shops all over campus.
Dorm Life Even though my dorm room is very small, I have already met my roommate and we get along great. I found out my dorm room and roommate super early, and being able to plan so far ahead with her makes me feel better about moving so far away.
Academic Rigor I haven't actually taken any classes yet, but I was very impressed with my class schedule. The School of Art is gonna kick my butt!
Tips for prospective students Make sure you work hard in high school. Apply for everything on time, if not early. Make sure you visit the campus and make appointments to talk with your future professors.
In three sentences The staff are engaging and easy to talk to. As a double major in two drastically different fields, it was important to me that both schools were willing to help me with my schedule. Besides great faculty, the campus itself is gorgeous and a big bonus in my book!

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus police service is active and open. Highly keen to the politics and habits of its students, it is always on the defensive.
Greek Life The fraternities and sororities on campus are many and active, though many of the students decline to become a part of them due to their bad reputation. On the other hand, some students seek them out because of that.
Clubs and Activities There are multitudinous events to attend, so there is always bound to be one that suits your interests.
Great for these types of students The truth is that MSU best nurtures hard workers. The less motivated are able to succeed, but the quality that the establishment prevails with is best utilized and represented by students who take the initiative.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The campus duck pond is a favorite location for many students, but the campus' many lawns are also well loved as good places to enjoy the open air and sunshine (while it lasts before winter of course).
Bang for the buck Bozeman as a city provides an abundance of opportunities for anyone and everyone to live the lifestyle they choose. The University does the same: you can get a phenomenal education if you choose to pursue it in the right ways.
What to do for fun Get outside: go hiking, skiing, fly fishing, rafting, kayaking, swimming. Or stay inside: read poetry with the local literature groups, join a science club, or become a frequent attendee of the library's facilities.
Food and Dining The food halls have friendly staff and a healthy variety, and frequently have themed nights and giveaways.
Dorm Life Dorm life is average. Very few students opt to stay living on campus due to the abundance of affordable places to live off campus.
Academic Rigor Every student decides how seriously they want to take their work. At MSU, it is encouraged that you take every step that you can.
Tips for prospective students Take advantage of the resources they give you, and even if you choose not to get involved in the college life don't lose touch with what he university itself stands for.
In three sentences MSU Bozeman is a diverse campus, full of the arts as much as it is the sciences. Engineers mingle with painters, architects with writers. The open mountain air leaves more than enough room for everyone.

Food and Dining I loved eating as much as I wanted whenever I wanted with the seven day meal plan.
Dorm Life I lived in Langford which was boring because it was made up of mostly geeky and antisocial boys.
Academic Rigor I had a tough time balancing class, football, eating and recreational activities so it was hard on my grades.
Tips for prospective students Don't get distracted from your studying by friends, TV or other activities. Remove yourself to a quiet place and do not procrastinate!
In three sentences I love the people and the scenery. The classes are difficult when you are a student athlete. Winter makes getting to class cold and difficult.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I always felt really safe walking from one end of campus to another at night. Everything is lit up really well, there's emergency phones in multiple locations on campus that connect you directly to the university police, and once again, the campus has their own police department along with the City of Bozeman's police.
What to do for fun There's so much you can do for fun on and around campus. Bozeman is a great location for city life and outdoor life. The downtown area is just a 10-15 minute walk from campus; there's two ski areas within an hour from Bozeman; there are rivers galore to go fishing, camping, hiking, or floating on; and of course there are all the activities on campus that you can join. There are intramural sports, the barn dances every Friday, you can always join your dorm's weekly activity or walk over to another dorm for theirs, there's Zombies vs. Humans every semester, and of course you can always attend any one of the many sporting events to cheer on your Bobcats!
Food and Dining The food in the dining halls is good for the most part. There's always a variety. It just starts to feel like the same things towards the end of the year. Don't forget you can always make a trip to the Hedgehogs or the grocery store though!
Dorm Life Living in the dorms is a once in a lifetime experience your freshman year. There's always some sort of activity you can participate in and there's more than ample opportunities to meet all sorts of new people. It's tight living, but if you talk it out with your roommate it's so easy to make things work. On your floor you become a family. The only thing that gets a little old is the dining hall food, but that's why there's the Hedgehogs and a grocery store right on campus.
Academic Rigor The academic rigor at MSU is fantastic as far as my experience goes. I have been challenged day in and day out to use my mind creatively and effectively in all my classes. Obviously some of the 100 level and below classes don't pose near as much of a challenge, but don't blow them off because they are preparing you to succeed in the higher level classes.
Tips for prospective students Be open to new ideas and possibilities. Try something new every single day because you never know who you might meet or what you may end up liking. Don't be afraid to be yourself! Also study, study, study. Don't put things off until the last minute. Stay organized.
In three sentences Montana State University is a great place to study where you can be surrounded by a diversity of people, places and activities. It's in a great location with a multitude of outdoor activities, and a bit of city life to satisfy you too. The staff is great and they push you to your limits, but not too far to ensure you're getting the proper education.

Campus also provides various activities through the year. In the winter you can go skiing or snowboarding at one of the 3 ski resorts within 30miles (premo place to come across celebrities hiding out).
Food and Dining The dining halls offer many options with a beautiful salad bar. Between the three you're bound to find something you like. But if not, Bozeman has a plethora of amazing local restaurants.
Dorm Life What can I say, after living on my own I would never go back to the dorm, but it was not all bad. There are many options for living depending on what you prefer.

Clubs and Activities This town has some fun clubs, but mainly outdoor activities are where its at.
Great for these types of students There is tons of medical, science, and engineering.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is an on campus movie theater called the Procrastinator Theater and at the end of each school year it has a showing of an old school porn.
Bang for the buck I would say that bang for the buck this is the best I've found!
What to do for fun This is more of an outdoorsy town so there are much more fun things to do outside than inside. During the winter It is surrounded by amazing ski resorts (Big Sky Resort, and Bridger Bowl), along with having some of the best Ice Climbing in the world (Hyalite Canyon). During the summer It is surrounded by world class rivers, mountains, and trails.
Food and Dining the on campus food is decent, but not great. There are numerous coffee shops, but during peak hours the lines are very very long. Luckily, however, there are numerous coffee places, and restaurants really close to campus.
Dorm Life I have lived off campus so not sure about this one.
Academic Rigor At other schools I have been to I felt like I didn't have to try as hard, but here the teachers really push you, which can be tuff, but rewarding in the long run!
Tips for prospective students Summers and Winters are much different in Bozeman. Winters can be long and cold, but if you can make the time to ski, or do other winter activities it can be a lot of fun. Summers are short, but amazingly beautiful!
In three sentences It is Outdoorsy, fun, and exciting. I have been to a few other colleges in California, and others here in Montana and this is by far the best school that I have been to. I love my music program here and would recommend it to anyone considering it.

Categories Comments Campus Safety -> Campus polices are everywhere, it's really safe, they even willing to give a student ride home if they get lost! (happen to my friend) -> like I said, carry a bear spray
Clubs and Activities They have pretty diverse club, these are the one I joined: -> Chess -> Taekwondo -> MMA -> Fencing But the best of the best: -> LAN PARTY!!!!
Great for these types of students -> Skiers -> Snowboarders -> Nature-lovers
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus -> Before the school football team (Bobcats) competes in the fall, some of the fans will do some underwear flash marathon, where they usually walk in a group, and suddenly strip to their underwear, running around campus yelling GO BOBCATS. They even do it in the middle of early snow! -> Mortal Kombat Armageddon (Xbox game) was banned in Johnstone, one of the dorm. Good things is only banned to be played in the main lounge!
What to do for fun Internet
Food and Dining Sometimes great, sometimes boring, they have a great Thanksgiving dinner. In case you dont like all the main menus, they always have burger stand!
Dorm Life If you dont pick the right dorm, you will end up having more social life, rather than studying time. Johnstone is the best dorm to study, Langford has many fun activities. Avoid the Hedges and/or Roskie if you are a serious student!
Academic Rigor MSU has some great civil engineering program, some of the best are civil engineering and avalanche study. Although, the program should offers more assisstantship program for some branch engineering program (speciallly Construction Engineering program)
Tips for prospective students -> Bring a thick coat and good snow boots, maybe a bear spray too. -> The nearest ski resort is 1-2 hours driving, pack your skiing gear!

Bang for the buck MSU is a very good price for both in-state and out of state tuition
What to do for fun Hiking, Skiing, Mountain Biking, Fishing, Hunting, Jogging, Dancing, Slack Lining, are just a few fun activities you can do in Bozeman.
Food and Dining Bozeman offers a wide variety of restaurants that will suit anybody's taste and price range.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus Police offer 24/7 escort service.
Great for these types of students People who love the outdoors.
What to do for fun Around campus there are plenty of things to do for fun. There is a newly renovated gym with a rock climbing wall and pool to burn off some steam during finals. Also there is a movie theater with multiple movies being shown every week. The university also has concerts at the Brick Breeden field house. Outside campus the opportunities are endless. There are hundreds of trail heads only an hour or two away. Bridger bowl ski resort is an easy twenty minute ride away and Big Sky and Moonlight Basin ski resort are a two hour ride away. Along with those there are beautiful national parks like Glacier and Helena. If you are a fly fisher then you have multiple blue ribbon trout streams to choose from in the Madison, Missouri and the Gallatin. By being a student at MSU you are offered a sportsman's package that includes water fowl, fishing license, one deer tag, and one elk tag for the hunters. Noris hot springs is a fun place to go with friends on a cold day. It is a naturally heated pool that is great on the body. There is something that can keep you occupied every week of the year at Bozeman.
Food and Dining There are three food courts located around campus. They all are stocked with food from salads to pizza. There is a different special for breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day. Breakfast along with the special always has an omelet/egg station along with cereal and toast. Lunch has a burger grill complete with french fries along with a sandwich bar. Dinner usually has the largest selection of choices. A salad bar is available lunch and dinner. Also if you are lactose intolerant or allergic to anything all food courts are capable of making you a personal dinner to fit your needs.
Dorm Life The dorms on campus are ran very well by resident directors assigned to each dorm. Before you walk into your dorm room I would recommend you read and understand the policies for your dorm to avoid disciplinary actions. Every floor in a dorm has at least one resident advisor who is in charge of enforcing the rules and also helping out incoming freshmen. They offer countless services like advice and answering any questions someone might have. They also work to keep the dorm safe by checking every room on their floor in case of a fire and go on walks during the night time to make sure everything is in check. Any dorm room is walking distance from any building on campus.
Academic Rigor As in all schools there are classes with difficulties differing depending on individual skills. That being said in most classes homework load is three days a week minimum and tests must be prepared for multiple days ahead of time. Professors can choose to grade on a curve for tests that have shown to be very difficult.
Tips for prospective students The first tip I would give would be to learn the different departments and their functions. This will save a student a massive amount of time and headaches. The second tip i would give incoming students is to take time to talk to your professors. Professors are more than happy to take some time after a lecture to offer clarification or to just talk. A personal relationship with a professor can help a tremendous amount in a difficult class. Another useful tip is to try any club or activity that peaks an interest at least once. For the first couple weeks clubs will have numerous informational sessions for incoming students. If clubs aren't for you there are countless planned activities from white water rafting to camping. These activities are usually on the weekends and there is usually a fee. These clubs and activities are some of the best ways to make friends with similar interests.
In three sentences Montana state is the ultimate outdoorsman school. Its academics are very competitive in most of the colleges to choose from. It has a very welcoming personality for incoming freshmen.

Categories Comments Campus Safety They've just installed emergency polls all around campus. You can call a non-emergency officer to escort you at night.
Greek Life I wasn't involved with any Greek life.
Clubs and Activities I like the personal training sessions and exercise classes you can take at the school's gym.
Great for these types of students Equine classes and colt breaking classes are great for those who love to ride or want to learn how to ride horses.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The catholic church on campus has a free lunch available for students every Friday.
Bang for the buck Can't beat the beauty of the mountains.
What to do for fun Take advantage of the hiking available in this area. Biking is a great way to get around instead of using a car.
Food and Dining Expensive for the quality of food you get on campus. There are many great restaurants around the area.
Dorm Life I didn't live in the dorms so I don't feel I can comment. I loved renting off campus.
Academic Rigor Just don't hang out with freshman if you want to be around a crowd who cares about their education.
Tips for prospective students Decide a specialized field or you will be stuck with mediocre professors in the University Studies department.
In three sentences It's a good school for someone who wants an accredited degree. It certainly isn't a top notch school but you can find some great professors.

Categories Comments Food and Dining College food will never compete with a home cooked meal, but Hannon dining hall is quite good and has many choices for dietary restrictions.
Dorm Life There is always something going at Hannon if you're interested, but if you want a place to study there are many places in the dorms to do so.
Academic Rigor An excellent school that teaches you whatever you many need to know. You can choose the difficulty of your classes to suit your needs.
Tips for prospective students Tip number one: WARM CLOTHES ARE A MUST! Other tips are just to get involved and to study hard.
In three sentences MSU is a fantastic school in so many ways. You won't find a better education in the Northern United States than here. And the feel here is just comforting, everybody is nice and it's a very homey feeling.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There is a police station here on campus and they are dedicated to helping the students feel safe. All 911 calls go directly to them and you can also call if you want an escort across campus at night.
Clubs and Activities There are so many clubs on campus that it would take me forever to name them all. How about this. If you are interested in any of the clubs here, look them up. I am positive that you will find something that you can get plugged in to.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I think that the most unusual spot on campus is right outside the Student Union Building. They have a modern art structure that looks like a giant metal noodle on a twenty foot pole. The strange thing is that the noodle was built so that it will spin if the wind ever picks up.
Bang for the buck Their in state tuition is very comparable to other state universities. Though it still is a lot of money because tuition is constantly going up everywhere, they do their best here to keep things reasonable.
What to do for fun There are plenty of things to do for fun. Whether it's just relaxing and watching a movie on campus at the Procrastinator Theater or if its going to a string quartet recital at the music building. Montana State is also located in Bozeman which is not a huge town but it does have enough fun sights to see (the Museum of the Rockies) and shopping at the mall.
Food and Dining The food is surprisingly good here. The best dining hall is Hannon Hall even though it is one of the smaller ones. They always have various choices in case you do not like the main meal.
Dorm Life Dorm life is a new and exciting time. The dorm staff is chosen carefully so as to help its students feel connected and welcome. They do a great job of doing this. The dorms are also comfortable and nice. They really do become home after a few weeks
Academic Rigor Montana State's dedication to making students better makes many of its majors very competitive and difficult. The honors program is especially dedicated to growing its students and gives many opportunities for growing academically. There will always be easy and fun classes but many of them here hold high academic standards.
Tips for prospective students Study hard. Do not just think that college will be easy and try to slack off. Yes college is fun and you make tons of new friends but still remember the main reason you are here.
In three sentences I believe that Montana State University is helping me to discover for what major and career I am suited. The staff is also helpful and dedicated to helping its students succeed. I also believe that this college education is growing me and helping me to become the best that I can be.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are emergency stations all around campus so if you are ever in trouble and need security you can use those. You can also call campus police and they will get there fast. If it is after ten at night then you need to show a student ID and they make sure you are housed in the building. If you bring a guest along after ten PM you have to check them in. If it is a minor then the parents of said minor are called to make sure the minor is supposed to be out and if they are allowed to come into the building.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Paint the M. There is a big M on the side of one of the nearby hills and every year they put a fresh coat of paint on it.
What to do for fun Most of the time there are a lot of school sponsored events so there is never a time were nothing is going on; there will always be something to do on campus if you are bored out of your mind.
Food and Dining The food is average most of the time but occasionally there is a dish that tastes really good and there is sometimes a dish that tastes really bad. There is a huge variety of beverages so you will never run out of choices if you aren't really picky. They have something that's really hard to find here: Huckleberry Soda! It is the best soda you will ever have!
Dorm Life The dorms are not bad but they are not five star hotels either. The walls are kinda thin so you can usually hear your neighbor and your neighbor can here you. There is a lounge on every floor along with a couple study closets and those are helpful. In the basement of one of the dorms there is a computer help station. Next to that is the laundry which is easy to use and you can either watch TV or play a game while waiting for your laundry to get done. There are even study cubicles in the laundry room.
Academic Rigor I have not been here that long so I can not say for sure that the courses are easy or hard but most of my courses have been pretty easy to understand but you do usually get homework every other day or so. It depends on the teacher.
Tips for prospective students If you come here make sure you can stand the sun because since I got here a month ago there has not been one completely shady day, just sun almost all morning afternoon and evening. Learn the layout of the town before coming here or at least learn where certain stores are so you don't get confused or lost when you venture off campus and into town. If you come here be sure your okay with a dry climate; the first two days I came here I got a split lip the air was so dry. If you are not good with hot dry climates either don't come here or bring lots of chap stick and use it every day.
In three sentences Montana State University is small but it is really easy to learn the layout and find how go get around campus. The streets can get a little noisy at night but if you shut your window then the noise is minimal. Staff here is friendly and helpful; if you are ever confused about something or need help never hesitate to ask, they will help you with almost anything you need.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Ducks wander the campus due to a beautiful pond right in the center.
Bang for the buck Especially for in state students. Very good value for highly rated education, in a safe Western city.
What to do for fun Skiing, snow boarding, hiking, sports to watch, big fields to play sports, fishing, rafting. Yellowstone Park not far away.
Food and Dining Dining halls connected to some dorms. Food good to above average, with flexible hours.
Dorm Life The students in the architecture floor are like a team. We work together give each other input and protect each other's projects from accidents in the dorm work room. It is not cliqueish.
Academic Rigor The architure program is know as architorture, but well worth it. Very art oriented, which is just up my alley. Freshman year you jump right into your major.
Tips for prospective students Come visit, you will find it fun! The Architecture department is very willing to give you the whole scoop in detail to help you decide. The Architecture program is set up for 5 year completion.
In three sentences . It's a beautiful campus, with views of the mountains. Very modern, with everything you need right on campus. However, if want to go off campus, everthing is close by or accessible by free bus.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I have never felt in danger on my campus and there are always emergency stations around that you can push if you need help and the cops will be there within a minute. They also have a number you can text or call if you want an escort back to your dorm if you feel unsafe.
Greek Life The frats here aren't very good in my opinion but the sororities seem like they are a good thing to be apart of.
Clubs and Activities Awesome skiing. Some hiking... maybe not for you if you can't take cold weather. There are tons of other school related clubs that you can join. Study abroad program is awesome.
Great for these types of students Great for kids who like the outdoors and skiing.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus One thing that I have always thought was funny is that there is an annual Undie Run where everyone goes for a run in their underwear the day before the cat/griz football game.
Bang for the buck Living in Bozeman is expensive!
What to do for fun If you are under the age of 21 it seems like there is nothing to do here on campus until you dig a little deeper. There are some fun things to do on the weekends like swing dancing and most times the college puts on some different activities for everyone.
Food and Dining There are three dining halls on campus. Miller is the largest but the best food comes from the other two on campus.
Dorm Life There is a dorm for everyone on campus you just have to find out where you fit in so a campus visit is always helpful!
Academic Rigor Being a freshman from Montana I felt the classes were slightly difficult but once you get used to the work load it gets better.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I was really surprised how safe I feel here especially walking home to my dorm across campus at 3 in the morning. If it is really late and someone does not feel comfortable walking home police will drive you to where you are living.
Greek Life If you are interested in the Greek life they have one that fits everyone, one for partying to one for academics.
Clubs and Activities They offer so many clubs and if they do not offer a club that you are interested in, they will allow you to start a club. Many students are involved with organizing activities and it gives you something to do on a Monday night!
Great for these types of students Great for students that want a good education and a good college life.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Not anything to unusual but there is of course the undie run and Humans vs. Zombies competition.
Bang for the buck It is a little pricey but the academics, staff, athletics, dorm life, food, and people are nice. It is worth it! They also offer many scholarships, most students here are on financial aid.
What to do for fun It is Montana so there are many things to do. During the summer and spring, a lot of students mountain bike, fish, hunt, go bouldering, hike (especially to the M) and during the winter there are many places to ski and snowboard. Plus if you ever get hurt or are sore, there is a hot springs ten minutes away.
Food and Dining It depends what resident hall that you are staying in but the food here isn't bad at all, some days they even have salmon. A lot of the food is homemade so it is really fresh tasting. The dinning halls are always clean and you never feel disgusted when you sit at a table. They test the products to see if they have been out to long and they have the best ice cream during dinner hours!
Dorm Life The dorm are clean and they are always trying to make them better. The presidents of the halls have activities that are fun for everyone. If you ever have a problem there is always someone there to help and it is always resolved. Everyone is super friendly which makes living in the dorms such a great experience.
Academic Rigor They have the prefect balance of academics and fun. It does depends on your major for the rigor of the classes but I can assure you that each of their programs are top-notch.
Tips for prospective students Of course study hard, play hard. The main one is knowing when to say no and time management. Who cares if it is a Saturday and you need to write an essay, there are more Saturdays to come.
In three sentences The staff is super friendly and they are always ready to help. The campus is beautiful and the building are never dirty. Students and staff make sure each student tries to get involved and has that true Bobcat spirit!

Greek Life There are many fraternities and sororities on campus. I am not a member of any but the interaction that I have had with them on campus has been pleasant.
Clubs and Activities Too many to list! Someone is always organizing something!
Great for these types of students Any!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Hike the M! The rec center in the SUB. The Gym - it's amazing!
Bang for the buck I am Mechanical Engineer student transferred in from Washington. When we toured MSU as well as a university in Washington, MSU's engineering campus and professors offered so much more in opportunities for research. In addition, my out-of-state tuition was thousands of dollars lower than in-state at the Washington School.
What to do for fun Mountain Biking, Skiing, Hiking, Working out, visiting the museum.
Food and Dining I am currently living in the dorm and enrolled on the food plan. We have tried all of the options available and the food has been better than expected - even great sometimes. Bozeman has a lot of great CHEAP places to eat - try the Pickle Barrel!
Dorm Life Fun.....Had a great RA the first year - he really encouraged our group to get to know each other by organizing floor activities.
Academic Rigor My experience has varied - my first year was brutal but my second year has been easier. It probably has something to do with me learning better study habits.

Categories Comments Campus Safety As a college in a smaller town, the crime rate here is low. Bozeman gangs are an oxymoron. Not much else i can think of to say about this.
Clubs and Activities The people here are awesome and it is easy to find somewhere you feel welcome and are included in the things that you are interested in. There are too many for me to possible list here, but it is highly unlikely you will not find one that suits you.
Great for these types of students If you are interested in outdoor activities, i cannot say enough times how much you will enjoy it here. If you like big cities and crowds of people, you should look elsewhere.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus One of the most intense occasions on campus is the Bobcat/Grizzly football game. The MSU bobcats have a longstanding rivalry with the University of Montana's Grizzlies, and it is so much fun to support your college during the game season. The main building that you will get to know very quickly is the Strand Union Building, this is where many students eat and hang out to study or talk. In the lower level of the building is bowling and pool tables and there are often many events going on in the larger rooms upstairs. There are many other traditions that go on around campus, but I will let you discover them for yourselves if you come here. I am sure you will enjoy them as much as i have
Bang for the buck The tuition here is great. I don't know if there is much more that i can say about it. The quality of teaching here is excellent and the student to teacher ratio allows you to connect with your professors and gain a better understanding of the topic you are learning.
What to do for fun As I said earlier, the number of outdoor activities are nearly endless, and if you enjoy skiing or snowboarding there are three amazing resorts in close proximity. There are lots of groups you can join if you like doing things with other people and you are sure to have a great time whatever you end up doing.
Food and Dining Although i have never been in all of the places to eat on campus as some are only for certain dorms, there is tons of excellent places to eat all over both the campus and the town. There is just about anything you could desire and since the town is small they are mostly easily accessible. There are many affordable places and meal plans as well.
Academic Rigor I have found my time here to be challenging, but not overwhelming. I have been able to find the time to do the other things that i love while still keeping up good grades.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you are prepared for winter here, the temperatures can be very cold and there is a possibility for lots of snow. As a member of the college of engineering here, i don't have as much experience with the other departments, but I can tell you that the one i am in is fantastic and if you are considering a degree in engineering be sure to put this college on your list. The options here are numerous and the department leaders are helpful, knowledgeable, and personal in instructing you though the choices you will face. If you are unsure what direction to take, there are multiple introductory courses that you can try out to find your passion, or passions if you are ambitious. Outside of school, be sure to look at the opportunities for outdoor activities, you will find just about everything outside of surfing.
In three sentences I love the feel of the campus and all of people here are friendly. The surroundings are stunningly beautiful and there is so much to do outside of academics. The options for majors are extensive and the quality of the teaching here is fantastic.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus feels very safe, at all hours. If you ever have to walk late at night by yourself, there are 24/7 campus escorts that will walk you to where you need to go. There are also panic/help buttons spread across campus in case of an emergent situation.
Greek Life Greek Life isn't huge, but there are a few sororities and fraternities on campus.
Clubs and Activities There are a ton of clubs and activities. Ranging from sports clubs, religious and political groups, to drawing, musical, and dancing clubs! If there isn't a club or activity that you want to see on campus, you can create one!
Great for these types of students Outdoors, active, down-to-earth people will love the Bozeman campus!
Bang for the buck It's an expensive school, for out of state tuition, but the price of the education is worth it. The teachers are easily accessible and care deeply about the students, if the student makes the effort in the class. There is also a lot of hands-on experience inside, and outside of the classroom.
What to do for fun In the fall, there are an abundant amount of hiking trails, camping locations, fly fishing areas, and biking trails. In the winter, there are three great ski lodges closes to campus. On campus, there is a student union building with a movie theater and bowling alley as well.
Food and Dining There are three great dinning halls on campus, and a variety of venues close to campus as well if you wan't to mix it up!
Dorm Life There are a lot of options for where you want to live. There are all female and male dorms, coed dorm high rises, as well as freshmen apartments. The living options meet the needs of a wide variety of students. There is also housing for upperclassmen and foreign exchange students.
Academic Rigor The classes are difficult. However, if you put the effort in, and don't procrastinate, it's very doable. The teachers genuinely care about you and want you to succeed. There is also a free-tutoring system set up through campus that offers help in a majority of classes, so there is no excuse for bad grades, unless you are lazy!
Tips for prospective students It's definetly a school to consider coming too. If you are into outdoor activities, as well as meeting down-to-earth people, and challenging yourself inside and outside of the classroom, it's definetly the school for you!
In three sentences The learning opportunities extend beyond the classroom at this school. It's a gorgeous campus, with a lot of opportunities to experience the outdoors and further ones knowledge. Bang for the buck Receive both an amazing education (that depends on your choice of major) and get amazing scenery and outdoor options for one price. can't go wrong
What to do for fun Mountains! there are 5 mountain ranges within an hour from campus. Bridger bowl ski resort is 15 minutes away, big sky resort is an hour. Hyalite canyon for hikes, rock climbing and ice climbing is a 20 minute drive.
Food and Dining Common cafeteria food. I'd recommend the 5 day meal plan...
Dorm Life comfortable rooms, not very big, but you spend many nights camping anyways,
Academic Rigor Most classes in sciences require 40 hours of work a week, but leave ample time for getting outside and playing
Tips for prospective students Abundant opportunities in both research as well as getting outside for skiing, mountain biking, camping or fishing. Be prepared for a cold winter thoughI
In three sentences Incorporates the idea of mountains and minds in everything. Learning is done not only in books and classrooms, but in any of several nearby mountain ranges. Focuses mainly on engineering and sciences.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Over the last couple of years a lot of extra safety measures have been put in place to ensure the safety of the students.
What to do for fun Bozeman is located in the heart of the Rocky Mountains and has lots to offer such as, skiing the Biggest Skiing in America (Big Sky/Moonlight) to hiking or jogging on the various trails available to Bozeman residents.
Food and Dining There is a surprising amount of diversity for the size of the town.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety gets involve in every aspect of your college life to ensure safety. Campus police makes constant trips around the campus. Lights are on during the night and telephones in reach, in case of any emergency.
Clubs and Activities If your interested in military, the university has Army and Air Force ROTC programs. If that is no the path that you wanted, then there are other clubs that might interest you. There are student government, campus ministries, etc.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Tradition is unmatched on our campus. We have the annual underwear run during the spring semester. Also there are zombie vs humans competition around campus.
What to do for fun On Fridays, the university provides swing dancing fun at the barn. If not interested the university has there own little mall and bowling alley for your friends and yourself to enjoy. Movies are also played during the week at the procrastinator theater.
Food and Dining Dining halls are easy to get to, not a long walk at all. Dining halls provide safe information and different food for those who have food allergies. A variety of food could be provided more. Not a lot of choices. Dining halls are not 24 hours.
Dorm Life Dorms are very spacious. Resident Advisers are very informative and caring. Dorm halls provide privacy. Dorm rooms also have a private group project rooms.
Academic Rigor Academics can be hard in any college. Montana State offers rigorous courses but it all can be made easy with practice.
Tips for prospective students Tips that I would give to prospective students are to study hard and keep yourself organized. There is so much to do and you are easily distracted.
In three sentences This college is one of the biggest school in Montana but it gives students the small country feel.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The safety here at MSU is very good. Montana State University has done everything in its power to ensure that its students feel comfortable and confident that they can walk about the campus care free of terrorism.
Greek Life The Greek Live here in Bozeman is somewhat legendary in my opinion. It seems that as you venture off campus you cannot help but run into at least one sorority or frat house.
Clubs and Activities If there is an activity or sport that you want to do chances are Montana state University has it. With clubs ranging from cycling to rugby and from rugby to biathlon there is no complaining of not having something to do here at Montana State University.
Great for these types of students As I have started to become more and more familiar with the Bozeman area and the campus I have learned more and more that the school is very proud of its athletics and its relationship with the easy access to the mountains. with that being said I think Montana State University is a great place for students that need an escape from the campus and from the books every once in a while.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus One thing that I found slightly unusual about Montana state University when I moved here was the enthusiasm for Friday night swing dancing. Every Friday evening from about 9 to midnight several students gather at this old barn on campus for some good ole fashioned country music swing dancing. The only reason I found this strange was simply because I had never heard of a college doing this before. But, since I am from Wyoming I cant help but find myself throwing my boots on and slipping down to the old barn to show off some dance moves.
Bang for the buck As a self providing student I have found it a little difficult to pay for school because I am an out of state student. Overall, you get what you pay for here at Montana State University. I don't feel as though this institution caters toward transferring students and out of state students very well but I do think that MSU does a very good job in making learning a priority.
What to do for fun If you love the out doors then Montana State University is the school for you. All of the advertisements that MSU uses about the outdoor life are true. As a competitive cross country skier I have thrived in the fact that I can walk a few blocks off campus and put skis on. I also love the summer months here in Bozeman. The hill sides are always a glowing gold color with wheat rolling as far as you can see. There are several opportunities here in the Bozeman area for mountain biking fishing and hunting. so when you come to Bozeman make sure you're ready for some adventures.
Food and Dining I have only had the opportunity to eat at one of the dining halls on campus once, again this is because I am living off campus and have my own meal plan. However, the experience I did have was a good one. I thought that the food was very nutritious and very tasty. The dining areas are all very clean as well as the kitchens. I feel that all these qualities make for a good eating experience.
Dorm Life Since I entered Montana State University as a transfer student I did not have to live in the dorms so the rating I give may not be all that fair. However, I was able to experience the dorms as an outsider who visited from time to time. Depending on which set of dorms you live in they vary in sizes, overall mostly on the small side of things in my opinion. There are many opportunities, however, for students to interact with one another in the dorms and that is something that is not as easily attainable when living off campus. From what I can tell they are not necessarily your typical dorms and most students that I talk to aren't all that negative in there opinion, at least in comparison to the other colleges I've studied at.
Academic Rigor Classes here at Montana State University are very challenging but manageable. My first semester here I took 16 credit hours of classes, worked construction 25 plus hours a week, and was training with the ski team an average of about 14 hours a week. Long story short I learned the art of time management very quickly. I feel that at any institute this will probably help the most. If you do the work assigned and dedicate the appropriate amount of time to all your classes, you will find yourself riding the train to early success at school.
Tips for prospective students As a transfer student I feel that my situation is quite different from newly entering freshman and with so stating my recommendation would be to make sure you have all your ducks in a row. It is very easy to transfer here and loose a lot of credits and find yourself in a situation that is hard to handle. So, be smart and make sure you have done everything you can to ensure a smooth and successful transfer.
In three sentences After just finishing my first semester here at Montana State University, I would have to say that my experience overall has been very good. Montana has offered me countless opportunities to grow both on and off campus. I look forward to continuing my education here as I get ready to start the spring semester of my junior year!

Categories Comments Campus Safety I have only heard of maybe 2 instances so far since I started in the fall where there was a safety issue. I still don't like to walk across campus at night by myself, but when I have I feel pretty safe
Clubs and Activities I don't participate in very many, but there's over 100, and something for everyone. Check them out!
Great for these types of students If you love the outdoors, don't mind the cold, like to be involved and trying new things, Bozo is for you! Also if you don't mind a small town. Bozeman is big compared to where I'm from, but students from larger cities don't like it sometimes because there's nothing to do. LIES!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus If you have class in Wilson Hall, do yourself a favor and find your class BEFORE the first day of class! The way rooms are numbered is really confusing. The SOB (save our barn) Barn! (so named because they've tried to tear it down several times...) But there's a barn dance there every Friday night!
Bang for the buck Tuition is pretty low (but I'm in-state too), they offer a lot of great classes, and many of the programs like Engineering are among the top in the nation. Student Services also has a lot of helpful things for students, like SmartyCats Tutoring (free! well, paid for in fees, but oh well), the Math Learning Center and Writing Center (both free* drop-in tutoring and help), and the Office of Student Success (offers career coaching, help finding work, and other helpful services).
What to do for fun The Residence Hall Association does quite a few hall activities which I enjoy. Otherwise, my friends and I like to go shopping (yes, it's small, but it's shopping nonetheless), watch movies at the Procrastinator Theater on campus, and just hang out. There are also TONS of clubs on campus to get involved in!
Food and Dining I love not having to cook for myself during the week! The food in Hannon Ding Hall is some of the best on campus (of 3 dining halls). It's cafeteria style, with the feel of a cozy restaurant. The salad bar is really good, and the food is almost always great. And if all else fails, you can always have a taco, burger, or cereal!
Dorm Life Hannon Hall (all female dorm) is a great place to live. It's quiet (which is great for studying), there is a great sense of community, and it's so convenient. I'm super close to my classes, there is a weight room and lounges, and there is a dining hall so I don't have to go outside in the cold! Granted, it's an old building, but that doesn't bother me. But if you want more excitement in the dorms, go to Hedges or Roskie.
Academic Rigor I am in the Honors program and am working towards an engineering degree. All of my classes are challenging (in a good way), and I they all push me to do my best.
Tips for prospective students You are coming to Montana, where the temperature regularly drops below freezing in the winter. Understand that before you come! The community on and off campus is very inviting. You just have to be willing to participate and meet people! Don't be afraid to be undeclared. I started off there, and the advisers in the University Studies department are phenomenal! They care so much about helping you find what you love!
In three sentences MSU is big enough to have great resources, but small enough to still be comfortable. The faculty and staff are truly here to help you succeed. And Bozeman is a great community to live in!

Categories Comments Campus Safety Extremely safe. I've never felt unsafe walking around at night.
What to do for fun The only real option is outdoorsy stuff. If you're into anything else you're pretty limited.
Food and Dining It leaves a lot to be desired, get the smallest meal plan and spend that extra money on something else.
Dorm Life Dorms are great, spacious and clean. The RAs are fun and friendly.
Academic Rigor Classes are extremely manageable and easy to get through.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you actually know what you're getting into. The academics are great, but you also need to realize you're going to be in a very conservative Montana setting, and the town doesn't have the same energy as larger ones.
In three sentences An fairly awesome school people wise but lacking in other areas. The town itself is very small. The people can also be extremely conservative.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Outdoors oriented. Those who walk around barefoot, ski from first chair to last call, and would prefer to be waist deep in river water with a flyrod than sipping starbucks in Times Square.
Bang for the buck Not a very expensive school, even or an out-of-stater. My buddy who attends has a dad who is a Doctor, so money was not his primary issue, however I hear the aid is great.
What to do for fun Everything outdoors.
Food and Dining My cousin works at a local apres-ski restaurant as a chef, so the food had better be outstanding. I have always planned to visit, but never have. From what I hear, the food, as well as the drinks, are just as one would expect; outdoorsy and adventurous.
Dorm Life Coming from military barracks, the dorms are a HUGE step up. He likes the freedom, but remember what he is comparing them to. However, most people experience a similar feeling of independence.
Academic Rigor He enjoys all his classes, but sadly his life now revolves around skiing, fishing, and hiking.
Tips for prospective students Never get down on yourself. My friend was in a tough situation but pulled out with hard work and dedication, ended up
In three sentences I have a friend, as well as a cousin, that both live in Bozeman. One of my friends is a freshman at MSU and LOVES IT. He came from military school, where we studied together, and he has absolutely nothing bad to say.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Its montana... and the college police do a great job of making sure nothing bad happens to people walking around late at night
Great for these types of students -Outdoor enthusiasts -Those with rural upbringings
What to do for fun -snowboard/skii -walks in the snow -hangout around the mall -see a movie
Food and Dining Its alright for the first few months, but just like if you eat at any restaurant every day for a long time, everything starts to taste the same
Dorm Life I personally may have just ended up in a bad dorm, (the only all male one on campus), but i havent really heard good things about the other dorm halls either. they are dirty, and in my dorm in particular the people are generally loud and very strange
Academic Rigor obviously depends on the classes you take and how challenging your high school experience was. college material may seem easier at first, but the speed at which they give it to you is what makes it difficult.
Tips for prospective students -enjoy the outdoors -bring WARM clothes -learn to cook, dining hall food gets old fast -try to get out of dorm life as fast as possible
In three sentences MSU is a cool school with a lot to offer, but it definitely takes a certain type of person to enjoy it here. Snowboarders, skiiers and outdoor enthusiasts will have a lot to do, but other than that my issue with the place is its a little bland for a college aged student. Academically, it is challenging, but those from more urbanized areas who are used to city life and all the habits that you develop through that will likely find themselves to be somewhat lost at times when it comes to finding people with common interests.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus They have an undie run to celebrate Homecoming and its a race through the middle of campus in just underwear during winter.
Bang for the buck Totally worth it!
What to do for fun Bozeman and MSU has everything you could think of in terms of fun, sometimes tis even a problem because there is so much to do!
Food and Dining Its normal dining hall food, but they do mix it up and have many healthy options. They do a good job of catering to food allergies too.
Dorm Life The staff in the doors do such a good job of helping students transition and get involved.
Academic Rigor It can be as easy or as hard as you make it, but with the right major it can be challenging but doable.
Tips for prospective students Apply early and get into the honors school. Also get as involved as you can, there are so many options, just choose wisely. Join clubs and start research early.
In three sentences It is in one of the most fun and active towns. The school is very supportive, wants you to succeed and has a ton of different opportunities to get involved. Everyone here is so nice and happy.

Categories Comments What to do for fun I have been told about the great hiking trails, and the fun rock climbing areas. Along with the more laid back movie theaters, and popular hangout spots.
Food and Dining The food on campus is very good, and not very expensive. I would eat here before any fast food place.
Dorm Life The students and graduates that I have met always have great stories of the fun activites that they held in their dorms.
Academic Rigor I have met many professionals that attended school here. They have said that it was at times diffacult, but not more than they could handle.
Tips for prospective students I was told, to join as many extracurricular activiteis as I could handle.
In three sentences I love the area, along with the look and feel of the campus. The students were all very friendly and willing to talk about their experience with the school. I am looking foward to applying to attend here.

Categories Comments Greek Life There are several fraternities and sororities at MSU that are very active both in the community and at the university.
Clubs and Activities The student rec center offers bowling, pool, shuffelboard, TV's, video games, arcade games etc. I attend as many sporting events as possible.
Great for these types of students Skier, Snowboarders, the engineering program is extremely popular for students from all over the globe.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Skiing and snowboarding are huge at MSU! There are even some professors who cancel class because the mountains got so much snow, and they know that most of the class will be out on the mountain anyway.
Bang for the buck I am a transfer student, and I transferred from a small town college. Montana State University is beyond better than my first school. University students make up a quarter of Bozeman's population; it's a beautiful town and offers an awesome student life. I am so glad I came here!
What to do for fun All of the sporting events are a blast, there are clubs, activities, a student Rec center, and a gym all available to students.
Food and Dining There's always several options for meals; there's a salad bar, pizza, a hamburger bar, fruits and veggies and dessert in addition to the main entree every day.
Dorm Life I never lived in the dorms.
Academic Rigor I am a psychology major; the courses are challenging but enjoyable, I've learned so much in just three years.
Tips for prospective students Go to class and study to earn your grades- there's no better way! Get involved with the athletic events, clubs, and activities on campus, you won't regret it.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Alot more safer than the University of Montana I must say. ASMSU even helped offer the streamline bus for students to prevent drunk driving and a way for the community and MSU students to get around. They even offer students police escorts for nights. If anything has even happened on campus such as rape or anything, the whole school is on alert. As a female, I do feel safe with their police escorts and buses.
Clubs and Activities I joined collegiate FFA my freshman year. I enjoyed it very much and do wish I could be involved more but I switched my major. But I am in the American Indian Council and the Nations group. They're like my family away from home.
Great for these types of students Great for any minority and any student from any student. I'm pretty sure MSU has something to offer for anyone interested.
What to do for fun There's alot. From the Procrastinator Theater to bowling and pool.
Food and Dining Dining was excellent. But I wasn't happy once when I accidentally dropped a little bit of food on the counter and one of the employees which was a student rolled her eyes and had some attitude. I think the the management or those in charge need to work on costumer service for student employees.
Dorm Life I was happy with my RA's the past few years and how they try to make us feel home.
Academic Rigor I felt it was challenging. I realize that after a semester away, I have to get some motivation back.
Tips for prospective students Live life without regrets. Put your head into books and studying and you'll do fine.
In three sentences Friendly People, Helpful and great people. I was happy with the result of the help from staff from Financial Aid to advisors to professors. MSU is one great place to be.
