Great for these types of students

Friendly, hard working, on-task students who want to go to a small school. Competitive Nursing Program, great in Liberal Arts.

    Tips for prospective students

Call the school or go online to the website to fill out all the paperwork needed. Feel Free to call the school if you need anything. READ ALL THE PAPERWORK they send you. They send important information. Once in the college don't procrastinate and STUDY!!! (buy your books online) and don't forget to enjoy your college years!

    Bang for the buck

It is definitely worth it! Every last cent is worth it. I have payed out of my pocket some amounts and it does not hurt me at all to pay for college with my earnings because I love it!

    Am enjoying being here

It is a very small campus and for the most part everyone knows each other and is very friendly.

    Am learning a lot

The teachers really get to know the students and there is a lot of individual, personalized attention given to the students. There is a lot of help provided to everyone either with the teacher, students or in the Learning Resource Center where there is tutoring most of the time for various subjects. Anyone can go anytime to study and it is great!

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you give your all once you start. Nursing program is extremely competitive. It is a small school so make sure you are out of the high school mind set and a serious college student. Learn to say no before you start, so you won't feel bad to saying no to go clubbing or a party. Also TIME MANAGEMENT.

    Bang for the buck

Yes, even though it is expensive it is worth it. With your room and board you get an 80 dollar food allowance in the cafeteria. Great for these types of students

Mount St Mary's offers a wonderful nursing program. You can do the four year or five year nursing program. This school produces the finest nursing students who go on to become incredible nurses with great jobs.

    Tips for prospective students

No matter what college you attend, you are going to have to work. You have to be willing to study and work hard. Mount St Mary's is a great college and they provide top tier students to the work force for every major. But you need to make the decision to work hard, study hard, and socialize. It is all about balance. You have to learn it, practice it, and live it. I hope you make the right choice.

    Bang for the buck

If you want a good education, then Mount St Mary's College is the place. You receive a good education that will apply to any major of your choice. The Mount produces successful and great adults who can enter the work force with knowledge, experience, and social skills. It is worth the money, every single cent.

    Am enjoying being here

The Mount campuses are beautiful. I am living on the Chalon Campus which has a great view of Santa Monica and the city of Los Angeles. It's tucked away in the hills of Brentwood. There are a great many clubs that create diversity and offer something for everyone. Social events and fundraisers are always going on as well as movie nights, game nights, and talent shows. There is a lot to participate in. For example, the Campus Ministry bakes free cookies every Monday for all students to enjoy. And when you want to get down the Mount, there is a shuttle service that takes students to several locations and shuttle buses that travel between the Chalon and Doheney campuses.

    Am learning a lot

The Mount has a great amount to offer any student. You learn something everyday in and out of the classrooms. The education is incredible. I am learning a great deal everyday when I go to class. The classroom settings are smaller and more personal. You have the opportunity to know your professor on a more personal level. Your professors will know your name and face. We have the Learning Center which offers tutoring, academic help, and workshops for every student. The Library has computer rooms, a great online database, and study rooms. The academics are wonderful.

Great for these types of students

Driven, hardworking, focussed students are most likely to excel here.

    Tips for prospective students

Be sure to make all deadlines and always call MSMC directly if you have any confusion about them.

    Bang for the buck

MSMC is pricey. As I said above though, there are tons of activities to get involved in and class sizes are small and you will get a lot of personal attention.

    Will enjoy being here

There are so many activities to participate in with the community, city, and other attendees. There are movie nights, trips to shows throughout the city and even museum visits.

    Will learn a lot

Class sizes are small. You will get a lot of personal attention. This helps you from falling behind.

Great for these types of students

Nursing Physical Therapy Biology/ any other science Liberal arts Any hardworking student

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to stay on top of your things especially financial deadlines or else there will be fees to pay. Get to know your professors; go to their office hours. Get involved. For pre-nursing students: Make sure to get good grades, especially on your science classes. so take advantage of all the sources you have to accomplish that.

    Bang for the buck

I do have to say that this college is pricey but it is worth every cent. I am very pleased of going here. I honestly do not see myself at another college. But if you decide to go here make sure that if your major is what you really want, especially for nursing students. The nursing program is very competitive. It will be sad if all of your hard work and money goes down the drain because you want to change majors. I had a difficult time my first semester of school. For that reason, on my second semester i dedicated myself to school only. Once i received my acceptance for the nursing program I knew that all that work and money was worth it.

    Am enjoying being here

I absolutely love it here. It is a very beautiful and peaceful campus. If you like to be outdoors and nature you will like it here. Our campus has a small gym, tennis and basketball courts. If you want to go out, there are shuttles that take you to Westwood/UCLA, or to the 3rd st. Promenade and of course to the Doheney Campus. Another thing is that it is a very safe and friendly environment. Since it is a very small campus you get to know everyone. They also host a lot of events throughout the school year. For example, carnivals, fairs, massage tables de-stress day, ect. Since it is a Catholic school it helped me regain my hope and faith.

    Am learning a lot

The one thing i love about this college is that the class sizes are really small. I once had a class of 8 students in total! Since classes are smaller you have more interaction with your professor, enriching your learning. The professors here are supportive and have certain times when you can meet them if you need help, to look at your previous exams, and to answer any questions you have. And if you are still lost once you meet with your professors, there are tutors available to help you. I know that helped me review for my exams. This is very important especially for nursing students.

    Campus Safety

24-hour security keeps me sleeping peacefully at night. They are always close-by, too.

Great for these types of students

Catholic students who like to have fun! But, this school doesn't force religion on you; the Mount accepts everyone and anyone.

    Bang for the buck

School is pricey, but it can be worth it if you make it worth it. I'm like most of you, poor out of my mind, but the Mount offers work-study that can help you out and scholarships. I've made great friends to make up for the amount of money my parents are spending for my tuition.

    What to do for fun

There's lots of things to do here! Aside from the gym complete with tennis and basketball courts and the pool, the Mount offers weekly activities for both residents and commuters. From making crafts such as a dream-catcher or lantern to the Athenian cafe where there's free iced coffee and wii game tournaments!

    Food and Dining

Meal plans leave me with more than enough money each week, for those of you who go home on weekends can bring a few snacks and food the fam, and if you have guests, the money you have left over leaves you with enough to last the week. (Meal plans are weekly rates). The food is so-so, but it's far from terrible. And if you're a vegetarian, they always offer vegetarian dishes. There aren't as many choices as if you were to go to a UC or a Cal-state or large university, but this is a small campus: everyone can eat, and there's a variety of food to choose from.

    Dorm Life

Sure, there's the downsides: it's pricey, not a compatible roommate, people occasionally being a bit loud during quiet hours, not enough laundry machines for the busy days, cafeteria isn't open more than 15 hours a day, etc. But, there's the upsides to dorm life, like meeting new people, getting your own study environment, being able to attend the activities at school, using classrooms at night for studying, 24-hour security that is always literally closeby and so on. The experience of dorm life is up to you to take. I feel safe dorming here at the Mount than I would at any other college. I have a single suite, and I feel fine with the size and the furniture within it. Some people may complain, but its really up to preference.

    Academic Rigor

Like I said before, it's not easy. Professors are tough, but they are there to help you out. Even if some of the professors seem intimidating, they will be there to help you, and they will help you only if you ask though. And even if going to the professor, you feel you need help, there are many ways to get help out at the Mount: tutoring or the learning center. The Mount wants you to graduate, and they want to help you. You just need to ask.

    Tips for prospective students

Study first, play later. Make sure you take any extra free time to study. And if you feel like it'll be nerve-wrecking to make friends, EVERYONE is friendly at the Mount, especially the professors. Just take the time to talk anyone and everyone. It makes a difference for someone's day if you take the moment to greet them outside of class.

    In three sentences

If you want a challenging college experience, academically, this is the place. But even when it's challenging, you really learn how to manage your time between school and social life. The only reason people would dislike this school is because they're making it hard on themselves.

Great for these types of students

Nursing students, Psychology, Liberal Arts Major, Sciences

    Tips for prospective students

The library is ideal to study especially the first floor. The computer lab is open 24 hours a day. There is also a learning center in the second floor to where you can go for help to study on tests or any other help you need on any subject.

    Bang for the buck

Everyone in this school is willing to help the students. Going to this school is worth every cent. The fact that it is a small school, you get more attention from professors.

    Am enjoying being here

The school has such a great a view, it makes the school relaxing. This is a small school and everyone knows everyone. The staff are really helpful and always willing to help students. Since it is a small school, there is no sports. There are some clubs, but don't expect it to be as a big as they usually are in high school.

    Am learning a lot

The class sizes are really small and the good thing about this is that the Professor can explain the material thoroughly and know your names. Attendance is extremely important for most of the professors. Professors are always willing to meet with students and help them be successful. You can meet with your counselor several times a year to help you choose your classes.

    Campus Safety

it is very small campus, only a few blocks long, since the campus used to a gated community of victorian mansions. so there is only one entrance for the campus which is always guarded with security officer. there are several emergency phones located in the campus as well.

Great for these types of students

great for students who enjoy small classrooms and community feel. my largest class is around 23 students and yet it feels so small since we interact with other.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

the campus is very small, and most of it is made up of victorian mansions since back in the early 1900's the college used to a gated community of mansions, so it is not unusual to see beautiful homes.

    Bang for the buck

good school that is expensive but if you have a good gpa then you can get more money in scholorships.

    What to do for fun

usc is right across from campus, so t is not uncommon to hear of students participating in usc events. we are also surrounded my many museums, and being in the heart of la one cannot get bored with the vast amount of activities to do.

    Food and Dining

overall good food but in extremely small cafeteria, so it is good food in limited selection.

    Dorm Life

the doheny dorms are spacious enough and located close to the classrooms. we can leave the dorms and be in class on time in 5 mins or less.

    Academic Rigor

although most professors may seem to pile on work, the are always there to help you (thanks to the small class sizes).

    Tips for prospective students

if you are applying for your major, and don't get in for the chalon campus, contact them and ask if you could attend the doheny instead. it is much easier to transfer there in a year or 2 while having already earned your aa. it also an all female school but males may apply to the nursing, and music program.

    In three sentences

it is a small school where the student body and staff receive one very warmly. they have 2 campuses which are both lovely, the chalon in brentwood, and doheny in los angeles; this review is for the doheny campus.although it says catholic, mt st may's college is as diverse and welcoming as any other college.

    Tips for prospective students

There's a few things about MSMC that you should consider before coming here: it's a very small school, so you pretty much know everyone. It's great academically because you can form strong relationships with your professors. Also, if you're looking for a great social scene, this is not the school. If you want to party, most girls go off campus. And an all girls school really isn't that bad, it's pretty fun because there's no boys to impress. If you want a typical college experience, don't come here. But personally, I love the school for what it is. I feel at home and comfortable with the Mount.

It is a bit expensive, but it is a really great school. I pay some of of pocket, but I am determined to get my degree. If you show that you are responsible student and you stay on top of your academics and financial aid requirements, they usually work well with you.

    What to do for fun

The students are very friendly and I find it easy to make friends here. The Doheny campus is located in downtown Los Angeles, where it seems there is always something going on. Surrounding the Doheny Campus are an abundance of restaurants, and if you go about a mile down the adjoining street, Figueroa, you can visit the center of downtown and shop or just marvel at all of the ridiculously tall buildings!

    Food and Dining

I love that the school offers vegetarian meals every single day! It is not too expensive either to eat here. I personally find the food at MSMC to be above par.

    Dorm Life

I live off campus, although I must say that living in the dorms is a bit expensive. It is economically wise to invest time into searching for an off campus apartment, and find a roommate.

    Academic Rigor

The load of homework and studying you have to do can be a bit stressful, but it is possible. If you manage your time wisely, focus, and ask questions if you don't understand, then your experience at MSMC will be a much better one than if you waste time, are distracted, and keep your miscomprehension to yourself.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you stay on top of your homework and studying. It can be a bit rigorous, but if you manage your time wisely, and make responsible academic decisions, you will do just fine. Devote time to study!

    Food and Dining

Mount St. Mary's offer meal plans, and every week, I have so much money left over. There are plenty of options food-wise, and they are all so delicious and well made. In the cafeteria, the college has a Stacks where cafeteria workers make custom made sandwiches, The Grill where students and faculty can get quesadillas, burgers, hot dogs, and so much more, a Salad Bar, the Main Menu, and much more.

    Dorm Life

Dorming and living in the residence hall is really expensive, but in some aspects it is all worth it for me. Since I live in a dorm room, I only wake up in the morning a couple of minutes before my class starts and just roll into class, and studying is easier to do with the quietness in the hall as well as the lack of distractions. Furthermore, several of my friends live in dorm rooms near by, so whenever we need to study we have a group study at a dorm room or one of the available classrooms.

    Academic Rigor

This college is academically very rigorous and challenging. However, teachers and student tutors are available to further assist students who may have trouble understanding certain material in their courses, in order for them to succeed.

    Tips for prospective students

Time management is key to be a successful student at the Mount. It is essential to make a lot of time to study for exams and assignments that professors may assign. Although socialization with others is important to any other college students, studying takes a lot of time for students at the Mount, so it is important to make time for both activities.

    In three sentences

Mount St. Mary's College is academically rigorous and challenging, but teachers and student tutors continuously offer help and assistance in courses that you may have trouble in, in order for you to succeed. Since it is a small campus, students and faculty are incredibly friendly and accepting, and professors provided a one-on-one attention to each one of their students. Located in a breathtaking beautiful piece of land in the Santa Monica Mountains overlooking the city of Los Angeles and Santa Monica, it is about 20 minutes away from the beach and other schools in the surrounding area.

    What to do for fun

Just dorming with your friends is already a lot of fun. In addition, the campus always hold events every week or so for free to keep the students entertain in between classes. Also, the Resident Assistants continuously hold free events in the lounges for Residents to relieve stress, i.e. spa days, movie nights, and etc.

    Food and Dining

The food is very healthy, and is different on a daily basis. However, after eating everyday, the food does start to get a little repetitive.

    Dorm Life

The dorm life is pretty good. The housing is comfortable, and it has all the essential necessities. In contrast to commuting, I prefer dorming. Unlike commuting, if I had any questions about class, I can easily walk down the hall to a friend and get help. If I was a commuter, I would have to wait till the next day. One can always call, but I prefer face-face contact in case I still don't understand. But dorming is a lot of fun.

    Academic Rigor

I can only speak from a nursing student's perspective as I major in nursing. For nursing majors, I definitely recommend MSMC. It is one of the best as it completely teaches and tests the students abilities. Once one has graduated from the program, all the hospitals would want to grab that student. As it is very hard, the difficulty level of getting in and staying is also high. It is very competitive, but if one studies and does their best, he/she has a high chance of getting in.

    Tips for prospective students

Be yourself; Do not cheat; Do your best. MSMC is a great place to learn new things in the classrooms and on campus. It is a great learning environment with many great places to study, and the aura around the campus urges the students to focus on their academics.

    In three sentences

I believe MSMC is a great yet strict college. I highly recommend it for students who are 100% serious about their academics.

    Campus Safety

This is probably the safest school ever.

    Clubs and Activities

There are a lot of clubs and the activities they host for students are usually fun, but don't last very long.

Great for these types of students

Studious and people for like to be isolated. Not great for very social people.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is a little spot called Haven Park that unfortunately not a lot of students know about. The view of L.A. at night is breathtaking and there's a bench to sit and watch with friends. There's also a trail called the Fire Trail where people go on hikes into the mountains. It's great for exercise and bonding with friends by exploring.

    What to do for fun

Santa Monica, Westwood, Venice Beach if you don't have a car. If you do have a car, or rent one, West Hollywood and other universities (UCLA) are close by to meet new people.

    Food and Dining

The food was glorious on my first two months of school. So many choices! Then the choices started to repeat themselves and I was crying for my mother's homemade food. Even the cookies started to taste stale after having so many my first week.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are always quiet, which is good to study, but not great if you want to make friends. I recommend having a roommate(s) your first year instead of getting a single in order to make friends easier.

    Academic Rigor

The professors are great and their assignments have their good and bad sides. Not every assignment is going to be a fun one, but there's always a point in them. Some professor's classes are easier than others, but you get the advantage of having small classes from a private school, where the professor knows your name and genuinely cares about your education.

    Tips for prospective students

Take advantage of the shuttle service. It's not healthy to be locked up on campus and not have a social life. This is college! Enjoy a dinner date with a friend in Santa Monica, or go to Venice Beach. The shuttle will take you there for free and you get a couple of hours to unwind from the stress of homework and exams.

    In three sentences

Mount St. Mary's: Your little personal haven at the top of a mountain. The view is gorgeous, the campus is clean and beautiful, the people are friendly and studious (you'll never find someone not studying), and the professors are great. The biggest downside- you need a car (or take the shuttle) to get off campus and it gets boring fast.

    Bang for the buck

    What to do for fun

Sports and participation in club activities are what make the college experience amazing. This enables students to get to know each other on this small campus. Everyone is always willing to give a helping hand and hanging with friends makes it easy to deal with the stress that college may bring.

    Food and Dining

Campus food has its ups and downs. When trying to live a healthy lifestyle, it can be difficult when there is not much selection to choose from in the cafeteria. Despite this, there are ways to get around the occasional cheeseburger and fries to take that next step in living healthier.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life provides an incredible convenience to those who choose to live on campus. There are many events that the school provides to make residents feel comfortable and at home.

    Academic Rigor

There is always a sense of competitiveness among students. Everyone is doing their best to outperform their fellow classmates. You always have to be on your 'A' game if you want to be the best.

    Tips for prospective students

    Campus Safety

Chalon is a little more secure since there is really only one way up. Doheny, on the other hand, is open to the public. Since I've been here, security has not really been a problem.

    Greek Life

We do have sororities on campus. I believe there are two active sororities at Chalon, but I do not know much about them except that they are very, very proud. Same goes for Doheny, I don't know what sororities there are.

    Clubs and Activities

There are plenty of clubs and activities on campus, expecially for being such a small campus. The sad thing though is that membership is not taken as seriously as it should be. I think many clubs lack direction and purpose. BUT that may be changing this year. I know one club, Latinas Unidas, is turning it around and has big plans for this year and for its members.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

At the Doheny Campus we have the Doheny Mansion where a lot of movies and t.v. shows have been filmed. Chalon has also had its fair share of screen time. It may be a little unusual, as not every school is Catholic, that we have a lot of Catholic traditions on campus. And a lot of nuns walking around.

    Bang for the buck

College is expensive in general. Mount St. Mary's has raised the tuition and cost for dorming, however they fail to inform the students how this money is being spent. Tuition is about $16,000 per semester; the college services fee is about $500; the cost of dorming depends on what kind of dorm, but for a small double, its about $5,300.

    What to do for fun

If you're at Doheny you have more options for fun because you are in the middle of L.A.! USC is your neighbor, LA Live is down the street, and pretty much everything is 20 min. away! As for Chalon, we do have the stop-trans that shuttles us to UCLA, I mean Westwood, and Santa Monica. But on campus, there is the fire trail and the loop if you are outdoorsy or a fitness fanatic. Of course, you can always make your own fun on campus like watching movies in empty classrooms (my favorite).

    Food and Dining

Bon Appetit is our food provider. They promise to deliver organic, quality food. Suggestions are always accepted. Chalon has more food options because it is on hill and its harder to go off campus for food. Chalon has the Main Plate where you can get pasta, fish, vegetables, rice, mashed potatoes... items of that sort. Occasionally they have pizza, wings, tacos, sopes, etc. Then there is the Global East (very popular) where you can get stir fry meals like beef or tofu and broccoli, sweet and sour pork or tofu, and other crazy things. Next is the Grill where the menu changes maybe every semester... but always has hamburgers, quesadillas, grilled cheese sandwiches, grilled chicken breast, regular fries, and seasoned fries. We also have a salad bar! It's just your usual salad bar, with some fruit. Then there is the sandwich station where you can create your own sandwich. We also have soups available, like clam chowder and posole. And on certain days there is a specialty salad, like a greek or asian salad. Aside from the regular cafeteria, Chalon also has the Cafe which is like a mini Starbucks. They have coffee drinks, shakes, smoothies, pastries and the life. Doheny has the same, except for Global East, the specialty salads, and the Cafe.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is hardly appreciated. Doheny has the most beautiful architecture surrounded by all kinds of flora and fauna, while Chalon sits upon a mountain with the most amazing view that spans from Downtown Los Angeles to the Pacific Ocean. Aside from where you are living, the RA's have programs almost every week and you are always welcomed to visit the Sisters down the hill. HOWEVER, if you are looking for the typical college dorm life full of parties, drinking and socializing with both sexes, that is not what MSMC offers. We are an all-women's college and though the nursing program allows a few males to live on campus, they and other male visitors are restricted. We are also a dry campus (no alcohol at student-sponsored events). That being said, the Mount is a big girl party! It's like one huge sleepover.

    Academic Rigor

In regards to undergrad programs, the Nursing Program is the most rigorous. I, myself, am in the Psychology program and have experienced both challenging and not so challenging courses, as well as educational and not so educational courses. I will say that I have experienced a challenging course that was not very educational... and an educational course that was not very challenging. I hope that makes sense

    Tips for prospective students

Ask questions!! If you are confused about something or would just like more information, just ask!! Don't let the college scare you, it's supposed to be here to help you. Take advantage, even when you are admitted!

    In three sentences

Mount St. Mary's College is great for women who are interested in female empowerment. The students could be more active on campus, and that may change in Fall 2012 now that we have our new President. We are a liberal arts college, so expect to be well-rounded!

Security is around 24/7 and extremely alert at all times!

    Clubs and Activities

During the first week of each semester, there is an Involvement Fair which is great because it showcases and gives a lot of options to new and current students what each club has to offer. If there isn't a specific club that a student is interested in, that same student has a big chance to start the club on their own. MSMC is always volunteering which gives a lot of opportunities to those who love to give back to their communities.

Great for these types of students

Any students seeking to get into a Pre-Nursing or Nursing program is absolutely welcome to apply to both campuses of MSMC. These majors are a big priority within the school and has a great reputation when it comes to these programs.

    Bang for the buck

Financial Aid is great because 98% of students get some form of financial aid. However, Work-Study is given on a priority basis to residents. Commuters have to petition and show if they would also like to receive Work-Study. But still, everyone gets a chance to be helped with financial aid which means less debt.

    What to do for fun

For fun around the Doheny campus, there is the option of going out to visit Downtown Los Angeles where there are different places to go shop such as Little Tokyo or the Santee Alley. The Chalon campus is closer in order to visit Venice or Santa Monica Beach. What is also available near Chalon are the shopping malls around the area such as the Santa Monica Promenade which is literally only a walking distance from the beach itself.

    Food and Dining

The food is absolutely scrumptious! The only exception to the dining halls is that there are only two halls and each one is for each campus. Also, there is somewhat of a couple of great options to even ordering to get plates to be made at the time of the order But still, the food is great , especially because the dining halls contribute to making sure that nothing goes to waste with their biodegradable to-go boxes and eating utensils. At the Doheny campus, only a block away is an AWESOME two- three streets where there is a HUGE selection of all kinds of fast food or dine-in restaurants that ranges from Italian food to Jack-in-the-Box which gives students an even bigger place to choose from to have breakfast , lunch, or dinner.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is fantastic whether or not you live on either at the Doheny or Chalon campus. Resident Assistants make up their own events in the student lounges in order to make living in dorms a lot more fun and easier. There are also events that keep residents and commuters the chance to mingle together to promote a more tight sisterhood.

    Academic Rigor

Professors here are challenging BUT with the exception that they have a real passion over what they teach. Each professor takes the time to teach each student their class and engage with them in a great way. Some professors are even advisors in their department which shows how passionate they are in their fields. Office hours are flexible which makes learning even more easier.

    Tips for prospective students

For prospective students, MSMC has two campuses. The Doheny campus is located near Downtown Los Angeles and the Chalon campus is located in the Santa Monica Mountains. Doheny is home to the A.A. program which includes Pre-Nursing and Chalon is home to the Baccalaureate program.

The Doheny Campus is located in the heart of Los Angeles. But the surrounding is near neighborhoods such as Alvera Street and USC and Trade Tech. It is a couple blocks away from the Coliseum and Staple Center.

    Tips for prospective students

Start saving up money and apply to as many scholarships that are out there. Make sure that you have done extracurricular or volunteer work because many scholarships ask for that. Find a part-time job during your senior year because that money will help pay for college (don't be particular of a job). Also cut back on having shopping sprees.

You have a full health clinic provided for you on campus and pretty much an organization for any aspect of life you may need help in. If you are interested in an all girls school, this is the place for you.

The school is catholic, but as a student you are not forced to attend church. This was my biggest fear in attending a catholic school because I am not catholic. But the school does not in may force their beliefs on you. You can even go to the campus ministry to make your faith your faith stronger, whatever it is and they will not force any catholic views into your head.

    Bang for the buck

Since you are choosing a private school you have to understand that you are paying for a more hands on education. It's basically paying for the students that couldn't get in, but you get the attention they would get.

    What to do for fun

You're right in the middle of downtown Los Angeles, you have the options of going to hollywood or going to the beach which not too far. You have the metro link located nearby and the shuttles also provided by the school.

Living on campus also gives you benefits to all amenities on campus, such as the gym, library and resource center.

    Academic Rigor

You made it to college, you know how much work it took to get from high school to college. If you keep in mind that you have to keep up to date with your work you will be fine. The work is challenging but that's why your professors are very personable and encourage you to come up to them and go to their tutoring hours. They love interacting with students and getting your feed back.

    Tips for prospective students

Research you major, start planning the path you want to take early. When you know what you want to do they can point you in the right direction to accomplishing your goals. And for the students who have no clue what path you want to take, you have the upper hand of exploring every subject offered. You should become very comfortable talking to your advisor because that is guide in academics. They guide you down what academic path you want to take. You decide what classes you but your advisor gives you the list and how many classes they suggest you take.

The school always has many events that provide students with fun. The beach is also close by, where the Santa Monica pier is at, along with many other attractions.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria, Bon Appetit is well-staffed and has good food. You can either get the meal of the day or have them make something else for you. However, sometimes there is not as much variety.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are beautiful and one feels very safe dorming there, although it is expensive.

    Academic Rigor

There is a high standard of academics in this school and all students should prepare. The grading scale is based on A, A-, B+, B, B-, etc... scale. For nursing students, anything lower than a C is a Fail.

    Tips for prospective students

Visit the campus before attending as it is organized a bit different since the school is on a mountain. Also, take women's studies and other classes that will enhance your application and chances of getting accepted.

    In three sentences

Mount St. Mary's is a unique and special school. It is unlike other campuses in that the staff sincerely care about their students and that there is individualized attention. The nursing program is excellent and I would recommend it to students of all majors.

You will always feel safe here. there is security personnel on Campus all the tinme

    Bang for the buck

Rent your books if you can. I recommend Chegg.com

    What to do for fun

They have a stop trans. Its like a shuttle that takes you to specific location, such as the mall, or the promenade in Santa Monica, or restaurants, and even stores. So you can leave campus, and breath a bit away from all the studying. Also Leadership and Student Programing and Commuter Services, ALWAYS has fun events where there is free food, and arts and crafts type of things. Those event are fun to go to.

    Food and Dining

Their food is good. Not much of a variety, but it does taste good. They have the menu online showing what they are going to give for the week. a couple of things don't change, like the burgers, but beside that, everyday there is something different. And a fun thing is that they sometimes hold events like Chef wars where the chefs compete and make something. The students are the judges and they pick which dish is good. The also have a cafe, where they make smoothies, frappes, tea and hot drinks - not much of a variety, but its still good.

    Dorm Life

I am a commuter so I'm not sure what they Dorm life is like, but fro what i have heard, everyone is nice, and people who live here have it easy, given that their classes are a couple of meters away. There are always some activities/ festivities for the residents . Rooms are fairly big, and the view from the rooms is incredible since Chalon is on a mountain - literally.

    Academic Rigor

The GE's are really easy to pass. The professors expect you to do your readings, and stay on track of the syllabus. Stay on top of your readings, and GO TO CLASS EVERYDAY!!!! Attendance does count, and it goes as part of your grade. They try to help you understand, but if you are struggling, we have a learning center where you can get a tutor - GO! it really does make a difference getting help from someone. Overall, the classes are easy as long as you do your part study, do homework, etc.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't worry about your first day here; you if your are lost just ask around and people will direct you where you have to go. The teachers here are also very, very, awesome, and they really do care whether you pass their class. Don't buy the books if you can - rent them - it actually helps save money. Also if you didn't get into a class, and its closed, you can always go on the first day of class, and most of the professors let you join their class. Try to befriend upperclassmen. They will know what teacher are out to get you, and what classes are a piece of cake. Go on ratemyprofessor.com to see what reviews professors have gotten - it actually does help you in choosing your classes. Some classes, you wont really need a book, you will depend on the PowerPoint slides that the professor makes, so ask around and find out what the other students that have take that class say.

    In three sentences

Its a small college that allows you to actually get to know your professors and peers. You become a part of the Mount community that strives to meet the needs of the students. There is always someone there to help you out, either academic-wise, socially, and even economically.

    Campus Safety

Very safe and secure! There even have their own app to keep you updated on any emergencies.

    Greek Life

There is a very limited Greek life since the school is so small and its mainly all girls.

    Clubs and Activities

Many different clubs offered! It's hard not to be associated in something.

    What to do for fun

Living on the Chalon campus there isn't many options when it comes to outside activities but the Doheny campus it's easy to go out to eat, go out to a club, or even walk over to USC's frat row.

    Food and Dining

There isn't a lot of options but they are a healthy choice. It's easy to stay on track and maintain a healthy diet.

    Dorm Life

Up on the Chalon campus it can be quite boring but down at the Doheny campus is where most of the action is at.

    Academic Rigor

Depending on your major and the classes you take your academic experience can become intense. Especially if you're interested in the nursing program.

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely make a trip out to visit and even try the overnight experience! That's how I became convinced.

    In three sentences

MSMC is a small, challenging, and diverse place to learn. I enjoy the small classes and the easy access to help. Everyone is so friendly, it's very easy to make friends and network.

    What to do for fun

If you want some fun in the sun, the pool is literally a five minute walk from the dorms, same goes for their gym(: It's LA! What is there NOT to do there?! hit up Santa Monica, Hollywood Blvd., Little Tokyo, Sunset Blvd., you name it. Even some little shops around the street from the campus.

    Food and Dining

The food there is average from my POV. Their kitchen/cafeteria is pretty big, with endless choices for healthy options, as well as the crave for some comforting junk food.

    Dorm Life

Love the architecture of the Victorian ones as well as the new models. They have a homely vibe, along with very welcoming girls there.

    Academic Rigor

Slow pace and small classes are sets for success.

    Tips for prospective students

I highly recommend to take a visit for incoming freshmen, like myself, as well as for future students(: When you have the chance and would like to go to MSMC, do the Overnight program in mid-April! I did it and I bonded with girls; laughed and talked with them=great experience. This opportunity really eased me and mentally prepared me for college life.

    In three sentences

I love the campus and dorms there! They have a very homely vibe to them and the counselors and students are respectful and kind. I spent a day in the classes for Nursing and the professors were extremely informed on their subjects, making it less intimidating to ask questions.

    Campus Safety

Secluded from the city, but the height is nothing to sneeze at. So if you plan to drive up to the campus, be very cautious. Also, be careful at night due to the wildlife surrounding the area. The Mount doesn't belong to just the students and staff!

Great for these types of students

Students who are focused more on academics and students who are religious (the Mount accepts and respects students of all religions).

    What to do for fun

As with any college there are various events and clubs to join. Studying abroad is a great option if you're tired of the same-old-same-old.There's plenty to see around the campus - historic sights, shopping, dining, and more.

    Food and Dining

I've been told by current students that the food is filling, but you'll quickly get bored of it after a while. There's plenty of places to get food on the way to school, though.

    Dorm Life

The dorm rooms are small and from the looks of it easy to keep clean. I've been told that the campus can be a bit quiet, especially on weekends. If you're the type to go to classes and study in a quiet place afterwards, then this campus might fit your needs.

    Academic Rigor

From what I've seen, the classes are very diverse and success can be yours if you just study and ask for help when you need it.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't be afraid to ask questions! Every one there is very kind and upbeat. They WANT you to ask them questions.

    In three sentences

The campus is clean and easy to navigate through. What I liked best about my visit was that the staff and students were very friendly and helpful. My advisor was also considerate and helped me a lot.

    What to do for fun

There are two Mount St. Mary's campus', the Doheny campus and the Chalon campus. The Doheny campus is located near USC and the Chalon campus is in Brentwood area. I am more familiar with the Chalon campus and there isn't much to do on campus because of how secluded it is, to do anything you would need to drive off campus.

    Food and Dining

The school has one cafeteria and they make all the food from scratch. There are days where you have good food, but there are days where you probably won't want to eat anything there. Options are always available such as vegetarian, main entree, the grill, deli and they also have soup and salad bar. Getting food off campus will be very difficult at the Chalon campus because it is on top of a mountain and you need to go 2 miles down the mountain to get near any sort of fast food.

    Dorm Life

I don't dorm at the school, but I have friends who did dorms and they don't hate it. You do need to attend meetings and follow certain rules, but other then that it's just a room to be in while you are there. There are a couple of dorms buildings, but the school in very small, so the dorms aren't huge like they would be at a UC.

    Academic Rigor

Depending on what courses you take, there will always be easy subjects and difficult subjects. The same goes for the teachers, there are teachers who don't seem too bad but there are also strict and difficult teachers. I'm taking many science classes and in my opinion the professors are difficult but fair, and asking for help is always advised if you don't understand the subject matter. Tutors are also available for every subject in the Learning Center.

    Tips for prospective students

First week of school get to know the campus, it is very small so it won't take too long to explore the campus, especially the Chalon campus. Get to know you're instructors, they will be very helpful to you and it will be to your advantage when needing help later.

    In three sentences

This school is perfect for those who do not want to go to a very big school, the class sizes are very small and teachers do pay attention to each individual student. Resources are available for everything you need, including tutors and resources in looking for employment. The school caters to students, you just need to take advantage of their resources.

    What to do for fun

The school has activities and workshops at least once a month. There is a lounge on campus that has board games, a TV and a Foosball table.

    Food and Dining

The cafe does offer a variety of food choices for vegetarians, vegans and meat-lovers. The students select exactly how they want their meal: there is a lot of freedom in the menu.

    Dorm Life

The school allows students to choose their rooms. Sometimes the school does run out of preferred rooms, so it is important to request a room as soon as possible.

    Academic Rigor

The school offers plenty of tutoring for its students at no extra cost, but depending on your major the school programs can get competitive. The programs this school provides depend on student's GPA.

    Tips for prospective students

Avoid the common application for this school if you are applying early. Try to do your best in AP tests because the school does give students a lot of credit for those tests.

    Greek Life

If you join greek life, thats cool; if you do not join greek life, no one really cares. Greek Life is seriously very minor.

    Clubs and Activities

Clubs are very active here if you like to participate in them. They are all community based. We do many charity balls and dances.

Great for these types of students

If you are a self learning and independent person this school is just for you.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

It is a Catholic college so there are a lot of spiritual activities here.

    What to do for fun

I like to hang out in town. West Los Angeles is where life happens. You can take a free shuttle down to Westwood village and shop and eat there. Also, the shuttles take you to Third Street Promenade (for those of you who do not know what that is, its basically a huge street mall with night lights and street performances--near the Santa Monica Pier/Beach. It is beyond amazing. Night life here is quite a thrill). Also, I like to work out at the campus gym. The machines are all up to date and a hour work out session is always great after a stressful week.

    Food and Dining

This college closes really early. All cafetarias close at 8:00 pm which can be a bummer for some people. The food here is good if you like salty food. I think the grill and the sandwiches are the best--only because it is the least salty. The breakfast is quite amazing here (FYI).

    Dorm Life

The dorms are very quiet during quiet hours. However, there aren't much things to do here. Usually, people hang out with their friends and study together. Sometimes they have free food and activities during the semester. All the RAs are very helpful as well.

    Academic Rigor

Classes are challenging based on the class choice. There are a lot of students who very academically driven. All the courses have tutors and learning tips/workshops so if you are struggling in class, people are willing to help you. Presentations are quite big at this college. If you cannot speak up in front of class and not willing to work hard to get that A, it is pretty challenging up here.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are interested in Nursing I strongly suggest you apply here. The nursing program is the best in the state and you get to go to hospitals in the area when you get into the program. The nursing program itself is very competitive and I suggest you get studying as soon as you get here. For other majors, they are all equally as challenging because the professors are always making you push more than what you can do. Also, always look for help. The tutoring services and libraries are really good resources here on campus. Everyone is friendly so do not be afraid to look out for people who can help you.

Mount Saint Mary's is located in Los Angeles, so there is a lot to explore! You can go to the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the Griffith Observatory (amazing views of the city), the beach, Universal Studios, The Grove, concerts, museums, parks, and much more. During my first semester, I only had one class on Fridays and it ended at 9 a.m. Instead of going home right away, I would take the subway train to explore the city. The train is steps away from the school. I would go to Sunset Boulevard a lot. Making new friends on campus is also fun. The school provides movie nights, community service opportunities, cookie Mondays (free cookies for everyone), and other entertaining events for students.

    Food and Dining

I usually bring my own lunch, but I often buy food from the cafeteria's salad bar. The cafeteria offers a wide variety of (healthy) foods and desserts. I am currently studying at the Doheny campus, which is down the street from LA Live and countless restaurants.

    Dorm Life

I do not live on campus because I am a commuter. The services for commuters at this school are great. We get discounts on school supplies, food, and public transportation. The school also provides free inter-campus shuttle.

    Academic Rigor

The classes I have taken are interesting and challenging. I appreciate my professors and everything I have learned from them.

    Tips for prospective students

Try to visit the campus before you decide to apply. Research the majors/minors offered, scholarship or financial aid opportunities, and do not be afraid to ask questions. Avoid procrastination and work on your time management skills. Pick the college and career that makes *you* happy. Do not be discouraged by other people. Do not let others make decisions for you.

I love the cafeteria. There is a variety of food to choose from. There is always a daily special and the salad bar is perfect. If you're looking for a quick snack in between classes, I would recommend the Brioche PBJ sandwhich, it's tasty and very affordable.

There is a free transportation shuttle on campus that can take you either Santa Monica or Westwood areas. The city life is always a nice de-stressor from a busy week. With a quiet little campus in the hills, its nice to know your in between a beach and the city if your looking for something to do outside of school. As for on campus there are hike trails behind the campus, a free gym, pool and courts. Also, student programming has discounted tickets and city life recommendations if your interested in a day of adventure or cultural inspiration.

    Food and Dining

The cafe and commons on campus has improved some much recently. There are many more options for vegetarians and vegans. They are always open to suggestions and recommendations for some plates.

    Dorm Life

I have lived on campus for two years with different types of roommates. It is such a unique experience that I greatly appreciate. Living on campus gives you the opportunity to be close to the events and action on campus. You have a bed to sleep on a few minutes away from your class or work, if you work on campus. There is a free gym for students and the flexibility to attend events after classes cause you already live there.

    Academic Rigor

It can depend on the class and/or professor. sometimes your general ed's might be harder than your core classes. make study groups, find previous students, always ask questions. The professors are there for you; there is usually a reason behind some madness. A lot of professors can expect a lot from you, but its only because they want you to be the best you can be in your field. Always do your best because that is what counts.

    Tips for prospective students

Your teachers are here for you! make connections with them and try to go to events when you can. Any event will be a great: social, networking and discovery. The social ones are great for meeting new people or at least getting your name out to others. The networking ones are similar, but help you build a professional foundation. Lastly, the academic events are always fun to go to, because you end up learning things you didn't know, you didn't know.

    In three sentences
