Categories Comments Great for these types of students The school is being remodeled and is becoming a better place for the students. The school now has blue lights so if there is ever an emergency the student can feel safe. The new residents hall is giving the students an environment of being at home and having their own place to enjoy. The schools parks are very relaxing and a great place to hang out and study. There is always things to do around campus and the university provides activities for the students to go to and communicate with fellow students.
Tips for prospective students Being at Highlands University is a really great school. The classes are very small which helps a student get one on one time with their professor. The classrooms are good learning environments for the students. The school has many places that are quiet and has good places to go off and study alone or with study groups.

Categories Comments Am enjoying being here The campus is getting better and better. It has been getting remodeled in the past few years. The town is very small compared to Denver, but this size just make it easier to be successful and keeps you from getting distracted =). Its far from home but i Really recommend this university
Am learning a lot Since the classes are much smaller, i have been learning a lot. I'm a Psychology and Political Science major. What i love about my professors is that they are so in love with their subject. Nothing is better than getting professors who know what they are talking about and know how to teach.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Free tutoring, and one on one help in any class you have. The people here will always treat you with respect, and get to know you personally.
Tips for prospective students Stay ahead in your classes and communicate with your professors, and you will have time to have fun while having good grades. Its about the amount of work you put into school, the pay off for good work is fantastic.
Bang for the buck The cheapest tuition rates in all the western American region, need I say more?
Am enjoying being here There is always something fun to do on campus. From swimming and sports, to the cook offs and games around campus. The hot springs in town are a great way to releave stress. And if you like to dance club HU is always pumping. On this campus staying still and having fun are hand in hand.
Academic Rigor This college is more then just a good education. It is a stepping stone to a future career. At highlands university, they don't just give you the education you need in order to your trait. The help you create skills and set up connections that can benefit you. The classes are great, this is because you get to know your professor one on one and you become more then just a student you become an individual. This will later help you when you truly need assistance getting through a class or finding a job.

Categories Comments Campus Safety They now have Blue Light system so if you feel unsafe you can press the help button and campus police can pick you up if you need a ride to your dorm or anything. they also have an INFO button incase you cant find your class
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus They have a tradition of when you go to a restaurant they ask you do you want green or red chile? & I still dont know what they mean but we'll see when i start living there
Bang for the buck Compared to California, California tuition: approx. 23,000 NMHU tuition: 2,664.
What to do for fun Anything, You kind of have to make your own fun & get involved
Food and Dining the food was Alright but they also have different options other than just the cafeteria. They have neighboring restaurants like mcDonalds and stuff
Dorm Life New residence Hall is really nice, Archuleta is the next nicest but with no A/C but the hottest in NM is 80-90 so you can always buy a fan :)
Tips for prospective students I am from California so its going to be far from home, so try to make friends as soon as possible, which is easy at NMHU because EVERYONE is very friendly :)
In three sentences It looks big but its actually a small school thats spread out. The classes are small so you can have your one on one time with your teacher, they know you by your name not just a number. I loved it & planning on attending in Fall 2012

Categories Comments Campus Safety campus security here, the campus security are around driving in their cars all day. as for the dorms in each dorms it is required to sign each guest in.
Clubs and Activities many clubs, i am in the native american club and it is a good club. we go out into the community and give back.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus homecoming, everyone goes to the parking lot of the football field and tail gaits before the game.
What to do for fun i go around campus and meet new people. i also go to the gym and play volleyball or basketball.
Food and Dining food in the cafeteria is good the cantina here is awesome. its a place where you could go with friends and enjoy your meal.
Dorm Life the dorm life here is great. very nice people and there are so much activities to do while living in a dorm
Academic Rigor the teachers are very strict and they expect everything to be done right away or before next class meeting. they expect you to put all electronics away.
In three sentences new mexico highlands university is a good school. i would recommend more people to attend this university. there are a lot of nice people and faculty here.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There is not a much to do here. That gives me more time to focus on my studies.
Food and Dining The food is delicious. Our dining hall crew does an excellent job with their work.
Dorm Life NMHU has simple dorms to fancy dorms. Prices vary.
Tips for prospective students Study as much as you can before doing anything else.
In three sentences I love it. The professors are great. I recommend this school to any person who would like to succeed. It is a small school where you can personally know and get the help you from them.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are many security guards, but they are not always around. It would be nice to have more. The good thing is there are some emergency poles around campus where in an emergency you can push the button and someone will come.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is a small park area in the middle of campus where people hang out between classes. It is unusual because there are a few putt-putt holes to play.
What to do for fun There are many clubs and organizations to get involved in. If you do not find one you like you can create your own. The town is small, but you are near a lake and mountains so camping is really fun to get away from campus. There is also a hot springs near.
Food and Dining The food has improved. There is a variety of foods served at the cafeteria and it is more healthy. I only wish that there was not as much fried food.
Dorm Life Dorms are very nice, but not much activities go on. It is usually a very quiet environment which helps. My only problem is that some of the Resident Advisers are not very good and we never see the Resident Director.
Academic Rigor All courses are extremely rigorous and require a great deal of work. The professors are tough, but know how to teach.
Tips for prospective students I would tell prospective students to visit the campus on a college tour, have an idea of your intended major to make things easier, and you can have fun even while staying focused on school.
In three sentences NMHU is a well rounded university. I have enjoyed my time so far meeting new friends and having great faculty and staff. I would recommend it to anyone pursuing a higher education

Categories Comments Campus Safety I always felt safe on campus and in my dorms. The security searched the campus every morning and night which made me a lot more comfortable each day.
Clubs and Activities I was apart of the Native American Club and even a Vice President. We had a lot of fun, I thought being far away from home was a bad thing but I had some native friends I gained even related to some of them by our 4 Navajo clans. Not just for the Native Club but every club I saw or helped out with had a sort of like family feel to it. Everyone was comfortable around each other and some strong relationships even build up in a short amount of time.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is an activity every fall that they call the Rez Fest between the dorms, it is a lot of fun. Activities are always happening and there is also a lot of annual activities that are carried out.
What to do for fun I had a lot to do when I took a break from my studies. There is an open gym on campus and also a rec center not to far away from the campus. Even a river walk that you can walk by or do a good run. There is mountains close by that has a hot spring to go to when you feel some stress, also hiking. Highlands University has a lot of out door activities on campus as well.
Food and Dining At Highlands we had a pretty good cafeteria 1st semester then 2nd semester we got an upgrade to our cafeteria and it became so much better. The food was always good and the food cost didn't even come close to an arm and a leg, it was a very reasonable cost. There is always a selection of food you can choose from if your craving a certain type of food.
Dorm Life I stayed in the lowest costing dorm and to me it wasn't that bad. You meet loads of new people and could even have a roommate. I chose to be in a private to have my own space and to have a study place I could always go back too. Sharing a bathroom with 10+ other people has its ups and downs. But hey having water and electricity included in the room & board package each semester is great. Our dorm advisors very very friendly and I even became good friends with alot of the people who lived in my dorm.
Academic Rigor The courses I took my freshman year were very simple and it went step by step. Just as long as you ask questions on what your not sure about and always pay attention to the professors. To me Highlands courses were just like how a high school course would be taught. Professors are not that different from a high school teacher, they will make time to meet with you and work on everything you have a question on. They want you to pass each class with a good grade just as much as your parents and family do.
Tips for prospective students This school has everything a student would need to. In my case I don't like big towns or long walks around a big campus. The courses are very well taught and the professors are very flexible to your learning style and also the work you are assigned to do. It was very simple for me to get on the Dean's list my freshman year.
In three sentences I would say this school is a perfect to start out your freshman year of college. The tuition is reasonable and the students and staff are very friendly. If your looking for a place not too big or too small and that has a walmart near by you will like this place a lot. It isn't far from Santa Fe or Albuquerque if your wanting to take a trip somewhere.

Categories Comments Food and Dining There are restaurants near the school and a sitting area for students to eat lunches at school. Again, the school of Social Work at NMHU's Albuquerque campus is small.
Dorm Life There are no dorms at the NMHU School of Social Work campus in Albuquerque.
Academic Rigor The school of Social Work is very intense and thorough. The instructors are extremely knowledgeable. The students share experiences with each other in the classroom to give a diversified personal perspective.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety in the last year has gotten a lot better. This last year, there were a lot of issues concerning safety, but it has improved since then.
Greek Life There isn't much in the way of Greek Life. I think there might be 2 sororities/fraternities.
Clubs and Activities I play soccer at NMHU and a lot of the other athletic teams support us and we support the other athletic teams as well. There are quite a few on-campus clubs such as the Pacific Islanders Club, Men and Women's Rugby, and the Anthropology Club.
Great for these types of students If you like small schools with a smaller student body then NMHU is for you.
Bang for the buck NMHU is very affordable in a time when people pay $10,000 or more a year for school. In the sociology/anthropology department especially, I find that my education is in good hands.
What to do for fun I hang out with my friends and go to the on-campus Christian Challenge group. There is the auditorium that plays free movies 3 times a week. Also, Santa Fe is about a 45 minute drive from campus for day trips.
Food and Dining The food at NMHU is okay. I have not eaten in the cafeteria in about a year, but I heard it has gotten much better.
Dorm Life I do not like living in the dorms because they are too loud, and a lot of people are rowdy late at night in the hallways.
Academic Rigor I'm not sure about other majors, but the sociology/anthropology department is quite challenging. There is a lot of reading for each class and the teachers expect you to go beyond average.
Tips for prospective students Since Highlands is in such a small town, it is sometimes hard to find things to do. Do not lose yourself in the party scene.
In three sentences The teachers in the anthropology/sociology department are fantastic. The campus is small within a small town which I personally like. I have enjoyed my time at Highlands University

Greek Life Greek as you wanna be
Clubs and Activities There are none in this town, that is why it is best to get involved with the school.
Great for these types of students Highlands is Great for students that are interested in geology
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The geology is awesome
What to do for fun Get involved in you school.
Food and Dining Food is always good when your hungry.
Dorm Life I got lucky and didn't have to experience the dorm life.
Tips for prospective students Keep trying!
In three sentences Highlands is a small school and the teachers really care. Highlands has an out standing geology department. I will have a wonderful future because of highlands

Categories Comments Dorm Life The are many dorms that are affordable. Highlands have recently build new dorms that are very beautiful and comfortable.
Academic Rigor I haven't attend any classes yet
Tips for prospective students This school is recommend it gives you a sense of security. The small town that surrounds the area is very welcoming to new students. You could always see the securities going around keeping the area very secure for anyone.
In three sentences New Mexico Highlands University is an excellent school because it small class setting. The school provides help immediately after a email or fax. The school provides several orientation for those who can't attend.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Join clubs, sports, because other than that there's not much else.
Tips for prospective students If you like to go out and shop HU isn't great on shopping places because there are no malls and the furthest you'll have to go would be to Santa Fe, an hour away, to do any shopping aside from a Wal-Mart. But aside from that being in a small town creates the atmosphere of being isolated which is great for studying and learning I think.
In three sentences I love the small classes, small town, and I really get a sense that the instructors get one-on-one time with every student. Instructors care about your learning, faculty give you directions if you need it, and people on campus are all doing their own activities. I enjoy it because the people are nice and I really feel I'm getting my education.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There a lots of campus police and security gaurds! Someone is on duty 24/7 which is a good thing. When people get into fights on campus barely any consequences are given besides the fact that the students that fought are sent to their room for the night/ day which is pathetic, becausese they then get the incentive that they can fight and barely get into trouble. Campus police take a while to respond to calls!
Clubs and Activities There are many clubs yet some barely have meetings.
Great for these types of students Any type, because there is so much diversity here! You will literally meet people from all around the world.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus not that i know of
Bang for the buck I wish there were more to do here and more events for college students. On weekends many people get drunk, sometimes to where as they black out , because it's so boring on weekends out here.
What to do for fun There isn't much at all to do here! It's a small town with nothing to do. There are only bars here! The community doesn't host any events for the youth.
Food and Dining The food is delicious and is awesome. So many things to choose from. The only problem is that the prices for the meal plans are ridiculous and way too expensive. Some people can only afford to eat one meal a day.
Dorm Life It's actually pretty sad, because there were so many out of state students thi year that they added more than two-hundred more beds in dorms, so rooms that were designed for one person have two people in there! Some halls are very old and are poorly maintained. Wireless connection is terrible, because so many people use it and since te dorms are so old, the brick walls interfere with the wireless connection.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you have housing show you all the dorm sizes, because they only show one room per hall and some rooms are way smaller than others.
In three sentences Just like every University, this school needs a lot of improvement. There is lots of diversity here. Housing unfortunately false advertises dorms during oreantation.

Categories Comments Campus Safety It's alright. You can get away with a lot but you can also feel a little sketched out sometimes.
Greek Life There's a frat and a sorority but they're not really relevant. You don't see them doing much and they don't have their own housing so there's no point to it anyway.
Clubs and Activities There's a lot of clubs and some of them are really unique (like fire poi and paintball). Its also really easy to start your own club.
Great for these types of students Everybody. This school is really diverse. Its probably not the best place for you if you're stuck up or snobbish.
Bang for the buck This is the most affordable option for a lot of people. This school is really inexpensive and in my opinion, everything is really good quality for what you're paying.
What to do for fun There's a lot of clubs and on-campus activities. There's a lot of parties. There's free movies in the auditorium. There's hot springs in town a few minutes away from school. It's only a one or two hour drive from bigger cities like Albuquerque, Santa Fe and Taos.
Dorm Life Dorms suck because you have to live by school rules but most of the RAs are nice and its usually pretty chill. Freshman can keep cars on campus, which most schools don't let you do and they don't have parking passes or charge you for parking.
Academic Rigor It all depends on what you take. There's some easy classes and some hard ones, there's something for everybody. There's a lot of cool teachers.
In three sentences This school is really chill. Its not perfect, no school is but overall I really like it. I'm glad that I came here and I reccommend it especially for people from far away.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There are plenty of thing to do here. You can go Hiking, Swimming, or go to the Game Room in the Student Center. Around town there are many historical land marks to visit.
Food and Dining The Food here is great. There are many choices from Mexican food to Chinese. There are 3 different meal plans to accommodate your needs.
Dorm Life It's great and the people here are easy to get along with. The dorms are nice and spacious. Dorms here are also affordable.
Academic Rigor No Comment
Tips for prospective students Keep up with your work and go to class. Take PLENTY of notes and keep them where you can find them. Go to your teacher when you have questions or if you have trouble with your assignments.
In three sentences New Mexico Highlands University is a great college. The professors here are really helpful when it comes to questions that I have about assignments. I love the people here, they are all nice.

Tips for prospective students dont not go if u live in big city and looking for something like where u live because it not its like the middle of no where and be careful who is your friend. and the food may suck but its college so good luck
In three sentences ok so here the thing this school is in a very small town. there nothing to do there no entertainment what so ever only if u go to albquerque and thats if u have a car cuz its 2 hours away no buses and everybody will know your business cuz its a small school

Categories Comments Food and Dining I think that the food is great. There is a wide range of buffet food to look from. Dessert is amazing and there is no limit for food. I think that the staff is great.
Dorm Life The dorm life is fantastic. There a multiple activities to be involved in and the resident assistants are great. It is expensive to live in the New residence Hall, but very much worth it.
Academic Rigor Teachers are great for acknowledging students' ideas. They grade rapidly and are there for students when needed. I appreciate everything that each professor provides in terms of study guides, office hours, etc.
In three sentences I fell in love with the atmosphere of the campus itself because it was just right for me and not too small. I enjoy learning in a classroom where different teachers have a variety of ways to teach. I think I would appreciate the faculty of the business office more if they were more patient.

Categories Comments Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There many things of this nature if you keep your eye out for it.
What to do for fun Not allot in town, but in the fall there is a drive in theatre, great hiking spots, hot springs, historic sites. Also Santa Fe ad Taos are not far away.
Food and Dining Only three places on campus for grub, Starbucks, Eisenstein bagels, and the cafeteria. But, it is a small town easy to get around, and find something else if you want too.
Dorm Life Expect many hall activities.
Academic Rigor Intro-classes are always easy, but once you get into your classes for your major, expect to hit the books.
Tips for prospective students Keep your mind focus on what your trying to accomplish with your degree rather where your going to get it.
In three sentences New Mexico Highlands University your not a number. Professors are right there if you need help. With the Universities location there is no worry of not being able to focus on your school work.

Categories Comments Campus Safety They have the blue light system all over campus.
What to do for fun A lot of people participate in sports. Once a month they have Club HU which involves music, dancing and fun. Every Wed and Fri they have the most recent movies showing in the Illfield Auditorium for students and townspeople for free. They also have this event called HU celebrity, kind of like a talent show.
Food and Dining The food is okay here. They have three different choices to choose from. They have a sandwich bar, salad bar, and fruit area.
Dorm Life I live in the dorm called Archuleta and I like it a lot here. I live in a private dorm so I get my own room which is very nice. I share a living room and a bathroom with three other people. The Resident Assistants do a very good job at making sure there is something to do every week in the activity room. Nothing dangerous has happened in my dorm and it's really friendly and safe.
Academic Rigor A lot of the classes are pretty rigorous.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you manage your time accordingly. Stay busy and stay active. Build a relationship with your professors and try to see them during office hours to improve your grade. Make friends with people in your classes in case you miss an assignment or just need help.
In three sentences I would rate NMHU a 5 out of 10. There could be more activities for the students and more clubs. The school isn't surrounded by much, the school sits in a small town.

Food and Dining There's a good variety and it's always tasty.
Dorm Life I have never lived in the dorms so I can't speak from experience.
Academic Rigor Classes are challenging and interesting.
Tips for prospective students Keep in touch with your professors. They are always willing to help.
In three sentences The staff and teachers here are very helpful. I'm a single parent and the professors are always willing to work with my schedule. The classes are small so the professors are not overloaded with students and I feel like they are always able to answer if I have questions.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I never attended NMHU on campus, but from what I have heard, there is room for improvement.
Greek Life Greek life is superb at NMHU. They really have their things together.
Clubs and Activities There are many clubs and activities at NMHU, but I feel there could be more. Overall however, the clubs are adequate.
Great for these types of students New Mexico Highlands University is great for business and education students. NMHU excels in those two departments, and they have placed many of their students in high and well accredited positions.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I do not believe there are any unusual traditions.
Bang for the buck New Mexico Highlands has an enormous bang for the buck. They provide excellent training in the BAs, and the tuition is really affordable.
What to do for fun For fun, I like to play basketball and lift weights. However, if sports is not for you, there are movies and a good night life.
Food and Dining I never ate at main campus because I attend New Mexico Highlands University in Raton, NM.That is the reason for the three star rating. The rating is mandatory to complete submission
Dorm Life I attend NMHU in Raton, so I never stayed in the dorms. That is the reason for the three star rating. The rating is mandatory to complete submission
Academic Rigor New Mexico Highlands is strict on their academic policies. They push the students through mentally challenging problems and multiple assignments, so they can reach their true potential and become accustomed to the work world.
Tips for prospective students Perspective students should be ready to learn and be focused on their endeavors. NMHU is a change of pace from high school, but if well prepared, they can really benefit.
In three sentences New Mexico Highlands is an excellent college in terms of price and the quality of education received. They have professors that care, and they strive for the success of their students. Overall, I would say NMHU is a quality college.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The safety is really good on campus, there is plenty of security guards that are on the look out for stranger danger and reckless drivers.
Clubs and Activities There are plenty of fun and exciting things to do.There is a pool to swim in, a track to run on, and free movie nights for you and your friends to enjoy together.
Great for these types of students Students who are willing to attend class, have a good time, and enjoy the fair weather should come to NMHU.
Bang for the buck It is really good, as long as you go to class, do all your homework, and make sure you pass all classes.
What to do for fun They have free movies every Wednesdays and Friday nights which really is fun and free. I also love to walk up and down the plaza that is right down the street from NMHU to go eat or to shop at the local stores.
Food and Dining IF you love coffee like i do, then you would enjoy the star bucks and the new bagel shop here located on campus. They serve candy, hot coffee or cold/iced coffee, yogurts, bagels, salads, cups of fruit and so on.
Dorm Life I live off campus, but when i visit my fellow classmates in their dorms, the dorms look very roomy, they reminded me of my room, and just because your in college doesn't mean you cant have a teenager feel of your dorm room.
Academic Rigor As long as you pay attention, anyone can learn. The professors are great and understanding. The professors really care about they students and if they are understanding they work or not. Lots of extra credit is given, so if you get behind you can always make up for it.
Tips for prospective students Go to class, do all the homework and turn it in on time. Pay attention in class. DONT drink the night before a exam. STUDY,STUDY,STUDY!! Be respectful. Try not to overwhelm yourself either. Its great to stay on track but relax every now and then.
In three sentences If i had to rate NMHU between the numbers of 0-10, I would pick the number 8. NMHU is a great place to learn and a great place to meet new people. I have learned many things and have great memories for my college experience here at NMHU.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus security is constantly monitoring the school property, so you are assure to feel safe at all times.
Clubs and Activities There are many clubs and activities to participate in here at Highlands. There are sports teams such as basketball, football, track and field, wrestling, and the list goes on. There are also societies that you can join such as the National Society of Leadership and Success or Student Senate. There are also several fraternities to choose from.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus During Homecoming week, the students on campus hold parties in each dorm building. For example the Wednesday of homecoming week may be a Mardi Gras party.
What to do for fun There are many outdoor activities to do in Las Vegas such as going for a hike, fishing, driving through the mountains to see the scenery, etc. With a group of friends, you will never have a dull moment.
Food and Dining As stated in the question above, I do not live on campus so I do not eat in the school cafeteria.
Dorm Life I do not live in the dorms, nor have I ever, so I can not provide accurate input on this subject.
Academic Rigor The academic work is fairly rigorous, as is any college or university. Highlands will challenge you, and in the end you will be grateful for the challenging courses.
Tips for prospective students Make sure the university offers the program you are planning on pursuing.
In three sentences Highlands is a great school to further your education. It has many top notch programs. It offers many programs outside of the classroom to help its students.

Categories Comments What to do for fun The things to do for fun around NMHU campus is to join a sorority, attend athletic games, or spend sometime a lab. Campus is small and there is not really much to do if your a city person, but it is fun if you have an open mind.
Dorm Life I personally didn't choose to live in the dormitories, but I have a few friends who live in them and they are decent. They New Residential Dorms are by far the cleanest.
Academic Rigor The academic rigor at NMHU is great for the most part. The teachers are lenient but also accept you to meet their requirements. The have tutoring sessions to help you with any other problems that a Professor couldn't meet.
Tips for prospective students Take granted of the tutoring centers located around campus. They have Science and Math, also writing and language centers. The tutors are very attentive.
In three sentences NMHU is a beautiful campus. They have great tutoring services with friendly staff that are always trying to help. The campus is also not too big but not too small.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus security and local law enforcement are available to on campus.
Greek Life Not aware of any groups in this area,
Clubs and Activities Sports, Multiculture clubs available, Women for a Change, and study groups/tutors for all areas. Native American, Hispanics and Hawaiian clubs, too.
Great for these types of students Great for students already knowing what they want and students that are still seeking direction. Academic advisors really listen to students and will help them achieve their goals (guiding).
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Multicultural campus with International students, and states that come from all over the US.
Bang for the buck I believe students even with disabilities are taking into consideration here. University will accommedate all students needs even putting books into audio recording for them. Great staff.
What to do for fun University offers great entertain, free movies, dances, and all sorts of clubs and sports game to attend.
Food and Dining Can't really comment on this, never ate the cafeteria, but snack shops and Starbucks has great stuff.
Dorm Life Convenience is small, close to all classes. Free WiFi, cable. There is a waiting list but everything is within walking distance. Awesome!!!
Academic Rigor Challenging. yet also teaching what is expected of all students.
Tips for prospective students After being here for four years, can honestly say that instructors do care about the students here and would like to see all students succeed.
In three sentences New Mexico Highlands University have great instructors and the social work program here is a challenging one so are other programs this university has to offer. University is very helpful in helping students out with preparing and looking for work and we graduate. As a student here is finishing up my four years and plan on graduate school here too, would recommend this school to all.

Categories Comments What to do for fun In a small town you have to find a way to entertain yourself. My friends and I go hiking in the mountain, there are Hot Springs we go to from time to time, and it is nice that the school shows a movie every other week or so because there is only one movie theatre which only shows one movie.
Food and Dining This semester we only have the cafeteria because they closed the cantina. The cantina was good if you wanted something other than the normal cafeteria food. The Cafeteria is not the best food i have had, but is definitely not the worst.
Dorm Life The dorm life is a great way to meet new people. There are so many activities within the dorms that you are always meeting new people. I had to move dorms because of a medical condition, and housing moved me without a problem, which was fantastic,
Academic Rigor The academic side of the school is not hard. It challenges you, but it is not impossible. I believe it has a lot to do with the professors. They are very willing to help you and are available to help you if you do not understand something.
Tips for prospective students If you need to be in a big city, and be around a lot of people all the time, this school is not for you. You have to learn to love the atmosphere here at Highlands. I know Albuquerque is not that big of a town, but it is way bigger than Las Vegas. Once I got over the fact of the town being so small, I fell in love.
In three sentences I love the atmosphere here at Highlands. Yes, it is a small school and a small town, but that is how I like it. I would rather be able to have my professors actually know who I am, rather than just have me as a number in their system.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Security is always driving around.
What to do for fun In my opinon if you want to have fun join some clubs to meet more people but for me I like being alone so I go out and go skateboarding.
Food and Dining The first few weeks the food was good but now its just the same thing every week and not well cooked.
Dorm Life The dorm I'm currently living in is not that good, heater is always on making it difficult to stay in and concentrate on doing homework.
Tips for prospective students Be open minded, willing to learn, and dedicated to your classes.
In three sentences New Mexico Highlands University gave me an opportunity to experience my first year in the dorms. It also gave me the experience of being on my own and becoming more independent. Also its campus is small and easy to get around to all of my classes.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck If you are looking to get the most bang for your buck, Highlands is the place to go. Tuition is extremely affordable and the cost of living in Las Vegas is low. You won't find another school that is accredited and is so affordable.
Food and Dining The dining selection is already great but it continues to get better and better. The food choices have a great variety and the food is always fresh. Not only is the food delicious but the dining areas are great places to socialize and catch up on studying.
Dorm Life Dorm life is a great way to expand one's social interactions with their peers. Living on campus submerses you in the college culture and there are endless things to do on campus. Not only are there plenty of social activities going on in the dorms, but living on campus leaves no excuse to miss class. It's a five minute walk to class, so regardless of whatever reasons you could think of to forgo class, none of them are legitimate reasons to skip class when you are so close.
Academic Rigor Highland's courses are challenging enough to provoke personal and academic enlightenment. The professors tailor the courses in a way that forces students to learn while having fun as well.
Tips for prospective students Highlands is a great place to further your education. The university offers several resources for internships to allow for hands on training in one's specific field of study. The community of Highlands and the town of Las Vegas is very diverse, which allows for a more well rounded experience.
In three sentences Highlands is an excellent university and I would rate the institution as a ten on a scale of one to ten. The professors are truly there to help you succeed and and are always willing to go above and beyond to ensure your success. The university is small enough to allow one-to-one interactions with professors but big enough to expose students to a vast amount of opportunities.

Greek Life None that I know of, this is cowboy country.
Clubs and Activities I'm sure there are but who or what not sure.
Great for these types of students I don't know most people or students.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus None that I know off.
What to do for fun Not much-the normal college stuff
Food and Dining It's your choice depends on what you like, lots of New Mexican food.
Dorm Life Normal I guess I don't live in the dorms.
Academic Rigor Could have it problems just like any other college none that I know of.
Tips for prospective students If you live in the area it is a great school no travel time, close to Albuquerque.
In three sentences Small campus and very helpful staff. The unit rate is below average which is good for those such as myself that have limited funds.

Categories Comments Greek Life Unfortunatlely we do not have any of that here at NMHU.
Clubs and Activities I am part of the womens basketball team here at Highlands so that is my club and activity but for other students the capmus life organization really tries to make things fun for the students. There are activities like club HU, poker night, different types of sports tournaments, free movie nights. We also have a few sorrities on campus that the students can join.
What to do for fun Here at NMHU during the football seasons and basketball seasons is when there is stuff to do. For example we have club HU on thursdays and for the football games there is always tailgating on campus that really makes it enjoyable for the students. In general though Las Vegas, NM is a very small city and doesn't accommodate for the collge students all that well.
Food and Dining The cafeteria here at NMHU has gotten better but at the same time I feel and wish that they would provide more variety for the students. With the new student center coming in hopefully they will put some nice resturaunts for the students to use. I like to eat healthy, there are a few choices but they could be better for the students.
Dorm Life The new residants hall that I live at are really nice. We have RAs that really take care of the place. Its not your normally dorm where there is blasting music and parties 24/7.
Academic Rigor The academics here are no joke. They really take graduating with a degree seriously. As a student-athlete its hard to balance out the academics and sports side of things. The professors do not make things easy for an athelete.
Tips for prospective students Here at NMHU it is a small university. Classes accommodate upto about 75 students. Meaning that the interractions with the professors are more likely to happen. As a future student u need to take advantage of all the help that the professors/ campus has to offer.
In three sentences New Mexico Highlands is a very wonderful university. All the professors here are so willing to help that it has made my education experience a great one. I have loved the atmoshpere and challenges that this university brings.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus security is everywhere. There are places on campus that allow students to connect with security within seconds.
Bang for the buck After leaving a small high school, this school was perfect for me. This school is so diverse compared to many colleges around. Also, it is a small campus and you have a better chance of meeting new friends.
What to do for fun There are movie nights on campus 2-3 a week located in Ilfield. Also, pool tables are available in every dorm. Sport activities are going on regularly on campus as well.
Food and Dining If you live on campus, a meal plan is mandatory. Food is great! There is a new dining hall opening soon.
Dorm Life Lived in the dorm my first semester here. They are affordable and comfortable living areas. New Residential Hall is the newest of the dorms on campus.
Academic Rigor Academics are important at this school. To the faculty, students, and teachers. Academics come first.
Tips for prospective students Don't be afraid to ask questions. The teachers at this school want to help as much as they can. Students currently attending were once in your shoes.
In three sentences Teachers know students one by one. Class sizes are small and engage every student. There is help everywhere on campus!

Categories Comments Greek Life Unfortunately, Highlands doesnt have a strong greek life.
What to do for fun Lots of outdoor oppurtunities! Great hiking trails, fishing spots, and beautiful scenery! Plus the historic value of downtown and the hotsprings make Las Vegas a great town to explore on your free days out of class!
Food and Dining Highlands now has more options dining wise on campus. Einsteins bagels is a great place to grab a bite as well as your traditional cafeteria. The purple brew will serve up your favorite starbucks beverage right with a snack right for any time of the day.
Tips for prospective students Stay focused on your degree and educational goals, they can easily cloud with distractions college life has to offer. Choosing highlands is a decision you will be very pleased with. It is the best place to start your journey in any choosen career!
In three sentences A great choice for continuing education. Hands on learning environment in a small town with minimal distractions. The campus has been undergoing some remodeling that has made the university move and move attractive and functionable! The new student center is bound to be a hot spot and great hit!

Categories Comments Campus Safety There is a mental hospital not too far away from campus so the crazy people tend to walk around like zombies. This school recruits people with rape charges and ones who got expelled from other colleges just so they can play on the football team, which isn't very good anyway. That is why there are emergency buttons all around campus to press when you feel you are about to get raped by a black guy or a crazy person. You also have to be careful who you have sex with. This school has a high rate of STDs.
Greek Life It's pointless to have a Greek life because there aren't any Greek houses and nobody knows about them or pays attention to them. This isn't a normal college.
Clubs and Activities We don't have a marching band, some of the clubs are legit but others just call themselves a certain name and people just sit around and talk, pretending they are part of something cool.
Bang for the buck Well at least you're getting a degree for cheap when you aren't learning much.
What to do for fun Hot springs (be careful you don't step on the heroin needles in them), hiking, partying.
Food and Dining The food is one step above jail food. It's almost the same thing every day, pizza, tacos, or rice with fries. The new cafeteria is so crammed together that i almost miss the old sticky tables from the last cafeteria so everyone could have their space.
Dorm Life Conner Hall - Worst dorms to live in. Shouldn't live there if you are a white girl. They smell bad, have no water fountains, no stoves, share the same bathroom with at least 20 people or more in each floor. Most of the rapist football players live in there. Melody Hall- The freshman drama dorm and the smoker's lounge. Almost everyone has to have room mates in the same bedroom and they all can't stand eachother. Kennedy Hall - Probably the most chill place because people drink in there but no stove to cook. New Residence Hall (Viles and Crimmin) - Not worth the amount of money it looks. It's the newest, biggest and prettiest dorms but the RAs are always snooping around, do random room checks, tell you to clean your room, and hardly ever fix things that are wrong with the wrong, but charge everyone for one person breaking the glass and pulling the fire alarm. It has very small closet space and small drawers. The rooms are tinier than all the other dorms but we're the only dorms that have a stove. The wash machines and soda machines steal your money. Family Housing looks like the projects from an inner city. It's disgusting.
Academic Rigor Half of the professors don't do their jobs. Even when a professor fails almost the entire class and many other people from other classes, they don't get fired because nobody wants to work at this kind of school. Most of the teachers aren't even real professors, they are grad students without a professor supervising them.
Tips for prospective students Prospective students should pick a different school to go to if they are actually serious about having a good paying job. This school is unknown and will probably not get most people far.
In three sentences This is not a very good school at all. It is a remedial school for bad kids to come get an easy and worthless degree. I don't feel like I'm at a real college, this reminds me of a public High School in a bad area.

Tips for prospective students Make sure you are ready to show who you are and what your willing to give toward your ultimate goal.
