Categories Comments Great for these types of students Personally, I know so many types of students that I think anyone can find a place for them here at NMSU.
Tips for prospective students Have fun. I know that you come to college to get your degree, get out into the real world, but enjoy it while you're here! Go out, join clubs, make friends and open your eyes to the world in front of you.
Bang for the buck When I first started looking at colleges, money was definitely a factor. NMSU has helped me in that area by providing scholarships for grades, your major and miscellaneous things.
Am enjoying being here NMSU is the perfect school for me. It's far enough away from home that I have my independence, but Las Cruces is such a college community that it's like having your family here. All over the city people are watching the games, coming to support events and overall being completely supportive of your college experience!
Am learning a lot Here at NMSU my classes are engaging and focus on all aspects. You don't just spend your time reading out of the book, but rather applying the practices to your life. You will always find meaning to take from your classes.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Living here I've met so many different types of people. As long as you want to be in college, you'll love it here! We have everything from party girl sorotities to nerd clubs. There is definately something for everyone. The unique thing here is that everyone is so friendly! I was walking infront of my dorms and got invited to hookah by just walking by. Everyone is so nice here, and they accept everyone. My friends consist of everything from football players to goths. No one is ever left out here, and thats what I love about it!
Tips for prospective students APPLY EARLY! My biggest fault was changing my mind at the last minute. I was only able to get loans because I didn't meet the March 1st deadline for scholarships. So always be on top of your deadlines. And have fun! The first few weeks I just studied. Keep a healthy balance of social activities as well as academics. I now do Zumba, have a part time job, and hang out with friends. Even though I've been studying less, my grades are still going up because I'm happy. I'm balanced and thus better able to stay focused.
Bang for the buck New Mexico State is definately an affordable college. Tuition is practically nothing! I'm paying 5,000 for the year, 18 credit hours this semester, and 18 credit hours next semester. Dorm room and meal plans are a bit pricey, but they're definately worth it!
Am enjoying being here NMSU has a beautiful very large campus. It's very green with quite a few trees. It's definately very different from where I came from, so I do get occasionally home sick. The people are great, and the food isn't to bad. The dorms are a bit small, but you're never in your dorm anyway. It's definately an experience sharing your room with someone.
Am learning a lot I'm an Animal Science major, and I've learned more in the past few months then I've learned in the past few years. With hands on labs, and discussions in your lectures you get to learn by actually doing! I have a variety of classes, and you will to. If you want to try something, they'll schedule it in. I have a hands on lab, and in this lab I've done everything from herding sheep to checking inside a cows stomach. The experience is unforgetable!

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students I definitely recommend that you find time for everything you do. If you have a test one monday do not go out the weekend before, believe me you will have plenty of time to have fun. School comes first!!
Will enjoy being here It is very hard to keep your nose in a book 24/7 so when I have time I know I can always find something entertaining on campus as well as in town.
Will learn a lot I will be going into industrial engineering this fall, the teachers provided for my classes are very nice and definitely know what they are talking about when asked specific questions. I am looking forward to this semester and I am ready for anything that comes my way.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students People who are visual, hands on, who want to experience a different culture.
Tips for prospective students check out the campus get to know some of the people the school is hands on so give yourself a hands on experience
Bang for the buck I have a full ride to NMSU, if you are from a family that doesn't have much income there are scholarships, grants and other types of financial aid to help you pay the costs. NMSU is pretty affordable.
Am enjoying being here NMSU is surrounded by Hispanic culture which helps this place be more of a community it is a lot of fun; if your from out of town you will walk into a place that will make your family even bigger. there is plenty of student activities that get you involved with the community and help you get to know others.
Am learning a lot NMSU has a lot to offer, the textbook is very useful in that it helps understand the hands on activities done in the classroom, but the learning is not bound to that textbook it goes beyond that. the majority of instructors want to see you succeed, they are willing to help you understand the material. there is also a good tutoring center here as well.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students All Students!
Tips for prospective students Use the professor's office hours to obtain assistance out of class. This will help with understanding the material clearly.
Bang for the buck I am actually from Yuma Arizona so going to an out-of-state school was out of the question. However, the university provides a tuition reduction program called Western Undergraduate Exchange Program, this program allows me to attend this out-of-state college while paying the in state tuition opposed to the out-of-state. I am very happy to say that the tuition is very low and reasonable.
Am enjoying being here The atmosphere is pleasant. With a nice scenery. There are plenty of activities constantly going on so there is no trouble in finding something to do. There are numerous clubs to get involved in. All in all, my experience has been extremely enjoyable.
Am learning a lot I can defiantly say I am learning a great deal of knowledge. My courses are preparing me for my career as an Elementary Educator. The classes provide the material gradually without making it overwhelming.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students If you are a person from artistic to just being a regular student, you will not feel left out here at NMSU. I was never popular in high school but once I started college, I met a lot of people from different backgrounds. This happened because 1) I lived on campus and wherever I'd be walking, everyone was friendly and I felt welcomed even if they didn't say a word to me, 2) I was part of one of the biggest organizations on campus, the PRIDE Marching Band. I always went to the school events and all types of people went too. It is really great and comforting knowing that everyone gets along with who ever. If you don't like going out to parties or events, you can also meet great people by just studying at Corbett Center. Every student hangs out, eats, and does homework here. So, now it's up to you if all of these great qualities meet your requirements in a university. I hope my review helped you and hope to see you walking on campus!
Tips for prospective students The main tip I have for you is to apply to NMSU right away and fill out your FAFSA form, along with scholarships. Plan everything ahead of time! My first year was a little tough with money because I didn't plan it very well. The dorm I lived in and the meal plan I had was pricey but there are cheaper dorms and meal plans. I rushed things with living and food but it was still worth it. I met most of my friends in the dorms and I didn't know how to cook, so I ate breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day at our Taos cafeteria.
Bang for the buck Money! Money! Money! I didn't really had to think about money when I was in high school, but when I was a senior in high school, that was the very first thing that popped into my head when applying to colleges. If you are having that same situation now, don't worry about it too much when applying to NMSU. The tuition here is less than how it is at UTEP, which is in my hometown of El Paso. I pay 2,856 per semester and it is easy to pay with or without loans. There are a lot of scholarships offered here for just being involved in an organization, having good grades, and for working too. Either way, you should still apply for financial aid if in case the tuition is over your budget. Grants are also useful!
Am enjoying being here Since the first day I moved into the dorms here at NMSU, I have met a lot of great and fun people. I have made great friendships but have also maintained my hometown friends. Even if you are form out of state, I can assure you will find long lasting friendships here. There is always an event going on almost every day of each week. I am in the PRIDE Marching Band and always perform at the pep rallies for the games, and a lot of people go to them. Prizes and free food are always given out to the attendees. If you like to socialize or just have a good time at the Student's center, you will love it here!
Am learning a lot I am a junior studying Music Education here at NMSU and I have to say the music program as well as the school is very good. Besides the music professors, all other professors of all different majors are good and helpful. In high school, I didn't think music would be hard and that there was more to it than the obvious. I have taken up to 19 credits since my freshman year and I keep learning more and more each semester. In the general education courses each student needs to take, there are also laboratory courses. These help you a lot! If you are not strong in a science course, going to the lab will help you because it is a hands on course. If it's geology, you work with rocks and maps. The professors are great and will help you if possible.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students The college here offers almost any program and can help almost any student major graduate. Allot of students come to school here for aggriculture or engineering purposes, however there is a pre-med program and many other programs for any type of student. Also, there is always one-on-one help offered by the professors so any time a student has questions or concerns, their teacher is always available and open to helping their students pass.
Tips for prospective students Students looking for something that is easy to pay for, all around loads of fun, and always helpful, this is deffinitely a good school to pick.
Bang for the buck The campus financial aid department here worked wonders for me. I do not know where i would go to school if it were not for the help I received from these staff members here. They made it so i never fall behind in debt, yet my monthly payments are small enough that I can accomodate to.
Am enjoying being here I absolutely love the campus and the town. The town is small enough that the entire campus is on one block. This makes it so much easier to walk to all of my classes and to anything essential I may need to go to. The people are nice and willing to help you.
Am learning a lot I grew up in a small town where it was very easy to get by in high school. I never had homework and almost never had to study. Getting into college seemed like it would be extremely hard to adjust to, however I have learned so much on how to be prosperous in college and never fall behind. There are so many teachers and staff members willing to help you with any problem. I have learned so much in only two months and not once have I felt behind or lost.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students NMSU is great for all types of students there are so many classes to choose from that will meet your satisfaction and best part is you can pick the times to go to class that will help you schedule your classes around your job
Tips for prospective students Best advice is to engage in as many as study groups and honor societies as possible will help meet people and get help in your classes.
Bang for the buck At NMSU there are a lot of deals on books at the bookstore and from other students who are selling the books for reasonable prices
Am enjoying being here Here In Las Cruces I am enjoying all the other activites such as football and basketball games even an ocassional movie at the mall movie theater.
Am learning a lot Here at NMSU I am learning a lot in my field for Biology I am currently doing a lot of dental work I want to one day be a dentist. At NMSU there is a lot of engagement in my classes so I get a lot of hands on experience and one on time with professors also a lot of study groups which help me engage with other classmates.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students NMSU is great for students who come from a rural community and students who desire the feel of a smaller school with all of the opportunities of a larger university. Students who are seeking a well rounded learning experience that includes both in-class lectures and hands on learning will find that this school fits their needs.
Tips for prospective students Take advantage of the opportunities and services presented to you by NMSU. Get involved in student groups and organizations and learn as much as you can. Have fun, but most importantly, bring many pairs of shorts, as it rarely gets very cold in Las Cruces at NMSU!!!
Bang for the buck NMSU is one of the most cost efficient schools in the country, welcoming students from all over the world into its unique atmosphere as it is easier to pay for than numerous other schools while still offering a great education. In addition, scholarships are abundant at NMSU and the desire to see their students succeed is reflected in the amount of money that is rewarded to students in the form of scholarships and grants every year.
Am enjoying being here NMSU provides opporutnities both in and out of school for students of all walks of life in the form of student groups, competitive teams, intermural sports, and numerous others. It is very important to get involved in your school and NMSU provides so many opportunities that if you do not find one that fits your needs, you must not be looking. The teachers and staff are friendly and the campus is clean and easy to get around with many forms of transportations services. Not only is the school great. The town is as well. Las Cruces in general is very easy to get around and you will find that the people are friendly.
Am learning a lot New Mexico State provides many learning opportunities and many different styles of teaching. In fact, in my classes at NMSU, I find that I spend a lot of time outside of the classroom gaining hands on experience with people there to guide me every step of the way to ensure that greatest possible learning experience. Most of the professors are very flexible and will go out of their way to see you succeed, whether that means staying after class, meeting in or out of office hours, or making sure your questions are answered before they continue with their lecture.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Engineering, Nursing, and students who are ready to go to college and who want to.
Tips for prospective students Be sure that you know what major you want to go in, be sure you can handle running around the campus so you can get to your next class, you can handle the professors treating you like an adult to where you have to do everything on your own.
Bang for the buck Something that I learned from being able to visit the campus is that it has a very wide range of buildings on it. You need to go there about a couple of days before your classes begin so you can find out where they all are. Also to find where you can get your food on the way while you're going to your next class, if you have the time.
Will enjoy being here I will enjoy the campus, how you can walk around to see different views around you, and also how you can take part in various clubs/activities that will help you find out who you are as a person. They will also help you interact with people you normally wouldn't think of talking to, and you get to make great friends in college.
Will learn a lot This school is perfect for me because it has the program that I want to get into, which is Nursing. It's near my house but also far away from it so I can experience life as a college student. I know that it will be a heavy major due to all the courses that you need to take to be a Registered Nurse, but the people there are really helpful when you have a question or concern.

Categories Comments What to do for fun traveling to mexico used to be the thing to do but that is not that much fun anymore due to current events. don't miss the rivalry games in albuquerque or las cruces as the aggies of nmsu and the lobos of the university of new mexico battle for the rio grande (river that runs through nm and creates part of us-mexico border). again, outdoors like white sands and carlsbad caverns are great. you can actually snowboard or sled on the ranges of white sands! other outdoors activities are hiking, biking, and there is water recreation at elephant butte lake not too far away.
Food and Dining the food in new mexico is great. do not visit or study in new mexico (especially at nmsu where they have a chile growing research institute!) without receiving your dose of chile. this area and school are famous for green chile as the climate is perfect for it. red has a great taste as well. if you want to play it cool like a local, ask for your burrito christmas to get both red and green. overall dining on campus can be a bit expensive but meal plans are a way to navigate that. have not had a bad meal as of yet.
Dorm Life it has been a while since i have spent a significant amount of time in the dormitories. often student living off-campus is still comparable as both are in somewhat need of upgrades. some campus projects have done that and newer ones are always nicer so just remember, the extra money on a newer dorm on campus may be worth it in the long run.
Academic Rigor college is what you make of it but let's be honest; a student can make it through courses at any large institution (public level) with relative ease. nmsu is no different as with some teachers, you will be challenged, and with some you will just be filtered through. i vote for challenging one's self!
Tips for prospective students be prepared for a relatively large size city (for new mexico) in the middle of a desert. make sure and follow the advice of those past/current students on where to and where not to reside. the campus has a competent police force and despite your typical rare occuring violent crimes as well as petty property crimes, the overall safety of the students, faculty, and staff is a priority of this department and the city.
In three sentences new mexico state university is a great public 4-year university in the southwestern united states. there are great opportunities there for not only agriculture studies but also within hard sciences such as physics, chemistry, and biology as well as geology. new mexico is rich in history in this part with plenty of things to see and do (white sands missile range, carlsbad caverns, nm spaceport). finally, this university is a desert flower but is close to texas and mexico (< 1 hour away each).

Categories Comments Campus Safety Generally pretty safe. I have seen a few things but NMSU police usually take care of things pretty well.
Greek Life The Greek Life at NMSU is indescribable. Large part of campus, very active, housing grouped together, our Greek adviser pushes hardest for unity between the organizations. Tons of fun!
Clubs and Activities Abundant at NMSU. 200+ campus chartered organizations not including Greek.
Great for these types of students All. NMSU is a very diverse school.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Undie run.
Bang for the buck It feels like tuition is high enough, and it keeps going up, however this is a great school for the tuition it charges.
What to do for fun Join a club, fraternity, sorority, team, or anything and you will always have fun.
Food and Dining Have not had much of Taos, but to what I hear, it's good but gets old fast! Plenty of fast food restaurants nearby.
Dorm Life Not housed in dorms, tried to not rate but it made me.
Tips for prospective students Dedicate your self to the actual academics. The parties are fun and great, but plentiful. Study, and party works well here, just really study.
In three sentences NMSU is a great school with something for everybody. Good sized classes and great professors. Las Cruces is a college community, which makes it great. My favorite part about NMSU is GreekLife.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Athletic students will be stimulated both in the classes and on whatever field they may practice on.
Tips for prospective students Take advantage of all the services that you can. You will learn a lot through the clubs as well, for instance, I am learning about programming through the New Mexico State University Game Developers Club. Have fun.
Bang for the buck The education provided is great, the professors work with you within reason in order to help you get the most out of your time in class. There are a multitude of student services such as an on site weight room, and natatorium, however there are academic services such as a tutoring center and financial planning service. Your tuition dollars are well spent as well as you take the time to use all the services.
Am enjoying being here At New Mexico State University, I have been able to learn not only through academics. I have been able to explore my interests in various activities. I joined four clubs and have pursued my interest in each of those. For instance, I am in the New Mexico State University Pre-Veterinary Club to learn about the professional world of veterinary medicine. I am also in the New Mexico State University Triathlon Club to be in a fitness club. New Mexico State University has a plethora of clubs and student organizations. I enjoy everyday at New Mexico State University.
Am learning a lot At New Mexico State University, I have been able to get the academic education that is needed for my graduate school however it has also provided me with other valuable opportunities. I am a pre-veterinary medicine students and through the school I have been able to get the hands on education that I feel I would have been missing otherwise. Through these hands on activities, I have also been able to network and meet new professionals in and related to my interests. I am also minoring in digital film making. Through the Creative Media Institute department at NMSU I have been able to expand on my knowledge of film and have been allowed on multiple occasions to practice the techniques we learn about in class immediately. I feel that the education that I am receiving at New Mexico State University is valuable and is adequately preparing me for my future education and professional life.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students This is a great school for all kinds of students since it is a big school it has many options. There are places to hangout and there are quiet places as well. I definitely recommend this school.
Tips for prospective students If you are a prospective student I would suggest to speak with an adviser that knows about your major, so you can choose your classes wisely. I didn't so I am a little behind.
Bang for the buck I would say is a very good school at an affordable price. It also accepts financial aid so that helps pay for tuition as well.
Am enjoying being here I enjoy being in this school. The school is big and is a comfortable place to be in. there is vegetation and a pond. I enjoy nature and walking in school in some of my free time. Also people around are nice.
Am learning a lot I am learning a lot. I am in the college of arts and sciences and graphic design is my major. I enjoy every class and the teachers are very helpful and want you to succeed.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students students wanting a division 1 school that still has a small school feel. It is a nice size town with a very diverse population
Tips for prospective students Apply for scholorships and try to get involved in the research programs early
Bang for the buck The textbooks are a huge expense and the room and board can get expensive but the food plan is great with a huge selection of food and lots of great plans.
Am enjoying being here The weather is wonderful the students are so friendly and the professors are approachable. The buildings are easy to find and the camous may be big but is easy to navigate.
Am learning a lot The teachers are great the class sizes arent too big and the teachers want you to succeed.

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students Apply for as many scholarships as you can real early. Also be sure to apply for the fafsa, that really help you out.
Bang for the buck New Mexico State is definitely a college to go to if you don't have much money. The fafsa can almost pay for your tuition for college. Also if you live in New Mexico you can get the lottery scholarship.
Will enjoy being here Living in a small town it is going to be hard for me to adapt to a bigger town. But I will enjoy being able to get out and do more stuff around the city.
Will learn a lot New Mexico State is one of the only colleges in New Mexico that I have found to have a major for wildlife science. I know a lot of the professors there from judging wildlife in 4-h and FFA. So I am pretty sure that they are going to be able to help me out in whatever I need help with.

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students Visit the campus and talk to other people that have already attended the school. Also talk to the staff and faculty of the college to learn more and get extra advice and tips.
Bang for the buck My choice of New Mexico State University had a lot to do with financial business. For one, if you maintain a 2.5 or higher, you will receive the lottery scholarship starting your second semester of college. It pays all of tuition. There are also a lot of other scholarship opportunities to help pay for tuition as well as all the other fees that come with college. As far as 'bang for the buck,' NMSU isn't the most expensive school so there for is not as extravagant as other ones. But it is still a beautiful, safe, and clean campus. And although I don't live in the dorms or have a meal plan, all my friends seem to enjoy them both.
Am enjoying being here New Mexico State University not only has great off campus life, but great on campus activities. Off campus there are many great restaurant choices, a mall, movies theaters, bowling, dances, music shows, festivals, and many other events. There's also the Rio Grande River with a beautiful walking trail, other trails for hiking or biking, work out centers, and churches. There's so much you can do!! On campus there are also great and fun activities. Many students as well as families and people from the community tailgate before football games, all the athletic games themselves are fun! Also, there's a fantastic activity center with inter-mural sports, work out classes, rock wall climbing, a bike shop, weight room, and many other physical activity opportunities. Although I'm not in one my self, there are many fraternity and sororities. There are also other clubs including the photography club, pre-health club, chess club, dancing clubs, and you name it!! No matter what you'll be able to find something to do.
Am learning a lot In my first semester of New Mexico State University, I have learned both beneficial text book material as well as real world lessons. As far as classes go, all of my teachers are engaging and full of energy. We have discussions, watch relevant videos, learn how to apply the material to real life, and learn an appreciation for the material we are obtaining. Although my first classes were not difficult, not going to lie, I have learned very interesting things!! The secret to learning is to be willing though. But I have not only been learning text book material. I have been learning to time manage better, better handle stress, meet and talk to new people, to manage my money, and so much more!! As you go along you learn more and more things that you didn't even know you would or could learn! :)

Categories Comments Great for these types of students This school is great for agriculture students and most types of engineers. There are plenty of other majors but those are the 2 NMSU is noted for. If you are okay with being on your own and organized you will do great.
Tips for prospective students Be prepared for a large step from high school. If you don't make time to study every day you will not succeed as easily as in high school. Learn to manage your money and time very wisely and don't spend all your money on ridiculous things. The partying can be a huge distraction even though it does not seem like it. Keep it under control.
Bang for the buck The School is good quality for being quite cheap to attend. The on campus housing and meal plan are kind of pricey and you would save a lot of money living off of campus if you have a car or even a bike. The professors are lenient when it comes to text books and sometimes allow a previous edition.
Am enjoying being here I really enjoy to college scene here. The campus is a very nice place and everything you need is conveniently close. Walmart is only a 5 minute drive and there are places to eat in walking distance and on campus. There is a Subway, Taco Bell, Einstein Bagels, and several places to eat between class. The Intramural sports are amazing. If you like almost any sport then you can play them in intramurals against other students.
Academic Rigor The classes are taught very well and have learned what is needed in all of them. The professors are for the most part very stern with the syllabus and it is a good thing. None of the professors seem to ever miss class no matter how bad you want them to.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students It is great for any type of student but specifically agriculture, business, and engineering students. This is definitely what the school is known for.
Tips for prospective students If you want to go to NMSU, It is good to get at least a 3.5 in school so you can get the scholarships needed to help pay for books as well as your tuition. I would also recommend either wanting to study dome kind of science, agriculture, business, or engineering, because this is the school's strong points.
Bang for the buck I would say this is great place to go for any student ad they would definitely get their money's worth. It is a great college to go to just to experience the whole college lifestyle and everything it had to offer.
Am enjoying being here I enjoy being here at NMSU somewhat. I have made some great friends as well as have joined a Greek fraternity and I am enjoying it very much. On the other hand it is a lot further away from home than I would like, but it is still a fun place to be.
Am learning a lot NMSU has a great curriculum focus. If a student wants to major in PGM Golf Management, they should definitely come here. Also they have a great location for Agriculuture students and anything to do with that area. I am personally there to study Biology, which the school is not necessarily known for, but they aren't bad at it either.

Academic Rigor Come here if you like to nap your afternoons away. No studying here.
Tips for prospective students Talk to the international students. There are a lot of them and are ignored far too much.

Food and Dining Huge selection of food, and it really is good! We even have a Taco Bell!

Academic Rigor Expectto be stretched, but not set up for failure.
Tips for prospective students Get to know your professors. Take advantage of the fact that at NMSU, classes are small enough that you get face-time!

Food and Dining it is like a buffet and you can eat as much as you want, but the food is not even as good as mc donalds.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Great!
Bang for the buck School is cheaper than many around the country.
What to do for fun Las Cruces is small but there are many things you can do for fun. Me and friends like to have good fun, for example hiking and camping on the weekends. There's also a lot of parties but I personally prefer the outdoors.
Food and Dining Eh, college food isn't the best. I think it's better than high school but it really isn't healthy. The freshmen-fifteen myth is true!!
Dorm Life I really love my dorm and my roommate. I think your first friend will be your roommate if you get along. Everyone is super nice in the halls.
Academic Rigor i think the education I'm receiving is worth my money. I've also been getting a lot of hands-on experience with my major. The professors are also very helpful with everything.
Tips for prospective students All you have to do is stay focus and balance school and social life. You'll love NMSU if you get involved. Also, don't be worried about a new city and new people, everyone is really nice and welcoming.
In three sentences I love it here because it offers me a good education quality. I also think that the campus is a perfect size, not to big or too small. I also love all he programs and organizations they have to offer.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Undecided students or simply students who don't mind variety in their social life or academic repertoire.
Bang for the buck Pre-biased as an in-state student, the school offers a lot of services for a fairly low tuition cost.
What to do for fun There are a lot of campus groups that sponsor a variety of activities directed at fulfilling student fun. There's always something happening.
Food and Dining Excellent food and meal plans.
Dorm Life The dorms are well cared for and very welcoming. However, the true quality of dorm life rests on one's neighbors, so it may vary.
Academic Rigor It depends largely on your teachers, but the workload is very challenging and the teachers usually go out of their way to make the work as interesting and fulfilling as they can. As college work, it takes a lot of willpower to keep up.
Tips for prospective students Go for the full college experience, excluding the drinking and partying. There are plenty of useful resources on campus, so I recommend using them to your full advantage. Finally, a tip for all college prospectives, get ready to buckle down and get to work.
In three sentences The campus is very open and the classes are more inviting than one would expect. The educational resources are plentiful and as a state-funded college, the students are placed as a high priority in terms of comfort and convenience. Then classes are surprisingly challenging and teachers are usually very accessible.

Categories Comments Clubs and Activities There is a lot to do, and things that one can get involved in.
Great for these types of students Like a slow paced, and calm surrounding.
Bang for the buck I believe the tuition is a bit high for the location.
What to do for fun There are many clubs and organizations. It is not a boring campus, but it takes an effort to find these organizations.
Food and Dining The first half of the semester the food was great, and there many options. During the second semester the selection decreased.
Dorm Life It was very loud, and rules were not enforced. The location is very central, and makes being involved easier.
Academic Rigor I did have to study, and the classes were challenging. Yet I was able to complete both semesters with a 4.0. I felt in some classes, teachers were not properly preparing me for what was being tested.
Tips for prospective students Some of the classes will not require a book, before you purchase one contact the professor. Use all of the sources your campus has to offer this may include tutoring, or the fitness facilities.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Be smart, but things usually seem pretty safe.
Bang for the buck With lottery or Regents (which I had) school is very affordable for an undergraduate degree!!
What to do for fun The night life in Las Cruces is great. It is a small enough city that you don't have to be too concerned with getting from point A to point B because things are close. Also, Crimson Cab is awesome for a ride after a night out. Its free with a student ID and they usually come and get you shortly. Before being 21 there are also a lot of parties and gatherings around the university.
Food and Dining On campus food is not that great, but if you have a meal plan you'll never worry about being hungry because of being too cheap. However, they are very expensive and if you do not eat a lot I would recommend trying to make meals yourself.
Dorm Life I did not like the dorms personally because they were expensive and often very loud. Also, they were so small. I like to be able to get away from people when I am at home and dorms do not really provide this. However, it is a good way to meet people.
Academic Rigor It really depends on the professor, but some classes can be very challenging while others are not hard at all.
Tips for prospective students If you are a good student take more than 12 credits per semester, even though it is often not recommended for freshman.
In three sentences The school is a great place to spend college years within New Mexico. I really liked the feel of the university and surrounding campus. The people are also very nice and will assist you whenever they can.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus PD are super nice and friendly. For those who are too intoxicated or need a lift home the campus offers a free car ride service called Crimson cab that will pick you up from anywhere in town.
What to do for fun There are numerous clubs available on campus. Off campus, we have awesome hiking trails and scenic spots in the nearby Oregon mountains. The Recreation center has sports equiptment for rent if you wanted to play racquetball, etc. There are two big cinemas in town and a mall. Plus, White Sands national monument is only half an hour away for some fun sledding on the dunes.
Food and Dining There are various places to eat on campus (not just the school cafeteria). We have a couple cantinas that serve great burgers. There are numerous coffee shops and small restaurants across the street from campus. On campus we have a student-run restaurant that is very decently priced. There is also a fancy restaurant located near the football field in the Fulton Center.
Dorm Life Depending on which dorm, dorm life can be pretty sweet. If you can, try to get into the Honors dorms. All dorms offer great extracurricular programs and activities from time to time to make your stay less boring and give you an opportunity to make friends. Housing life provides many opportunities for student jobs. Plus, if you have any issues, they are very willing to help -my freshmen year in the dorms, I had a really weird room mate and was able to switch to a different room no problem.
Academic Rigor It really depends on what classes you take and how much effort you are willing to put into them. Teachers love challenging their students, especially the ones who show promise and are willing to work. You dod have to be willing to put in time into upper division courses.
Tips for prospective students Be prepared for really hot summers with random monsoon rains and sometimes very chilly winters. We do eat quite a bit of spicy food down here, but there are many restaurants to fit everyone's tastes. We offer wonderful study abroad opportunities. I lived a year in China by having to pay only NMSU tuition.
In three sentences New Mexico State is a decent sized school with a big heart. The faculty here are really personal and care about their students' success. The campus is really nice with many new refurbished buildings.

What to do for fun There is a thriving art scene and hispanic culture that is very inviting and fun.
Tips for prospective students Be sure to hold advisors and financial aid advisors accountable.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I've heard of very few incidents on campus. Dorms have excellent security (my friend was one of many night guards in one of the dorm facilities).
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus A Mountain was established many years ago as one of the greatest pranks in NMSU. Every year, the agricultural and engineering majors would mark an A for aggies somewhere on campus. Hadley Hall was the last building that had not been marked, so aggie student engineers strategically placed an A on Tortugas mountain, west of campus. When standing at the top of the horseshoe, one can see the illusion of the A on top of Hadley Hall.
What to do for fun There are many cultural events which come up in the student newsletter which every students receives via e-mail. Aggie football, volleyball, and soccer games, volunteer work, and intramural soccer are always fun and entertaining.
Food and Dining NMSU provides excellent international cuisine from Sodexo. I love it!
Dorm Life I have never lived in a dorm.
Academic Rigor Teachers have high expectations from their students and do not allow for many mistakes.
Tips for prospective students I recommend for to be as involved within the university as possible, make friends in every class, and meet with instructors as often as necessary within the course's semester.
In three sentences This university gives students excellent resources such as tutors, school supplies, late library hours, the largest campus housing in New Mexico, etc., for their education. Students are given excellent opportunities to become involved in multicultural activities within the university as well as in the community with events like mariachi conferences and programs such as the Chicano program. I have the opportunity to be a part of the TRiO program which assigns me a mentor which guides me throughout my semester to make sure I keep up with my education and have access to excellent resources.

Categories Comments Clubs and Activities I participate in collegiate FFA and I love it. However, there are so many other clubs, organizations and fraternities around school to get involved in.
Great for these types of students It is a great place for all types of students. Everyone is really friendly and open minded
What to do for fun As a student you have access to the workout machines, pool area, games and other events going on around campus. There are generally a couple of concerts held each year that students and the surrounding community like to attend. Some student enjoy bowling and/or going to karaoke.
Food and Dining There are several places to eat around campus. Taos is probably the most visited place to eat around campus. The food is good and there are tons of places to choose from on and around campus.
Dorm Life I do not live in the dorms so I don't know much about dorm life. However, from what I have observed it can be beneficial. There are tons of opportunities for students living in dorms and several events held throughout the year. Also, when you live on campus you are required to have a meal plan so you never go without food.
Academic Rigor I wouldn't say it's hard because if you study and do as you are supposed to do then its easy to get good grades. However, some classes are definitely more challenging than others. It is important that you enjoy the degree you're seeking because it makes classes easier and more enjoyable.
Tips for prospective students Go over your degree plan with your advisers before choosing classes. It makes the process a lot easier and eliminates confusion. Also, your work load is a lot easier if you miss general education classes with your degree specific classes.
In three sentences NMSU is a great school. The advisers in my college are understanding and willing to help students. NMSU has a great learning environment and I enjoy attending school there.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There was always something to do on campus. My friends and I would go swimming or play soccer outside. There were often parties held in the different living areas or by different colleges (the Honors College holds a masquerade every year that is really fun). Free movies are shown around campus, too. Flyers for free things to do are always up all around campus, so you can have fun for free!
Food and Dining While the food can get quite repetitive and may not be as delicious as home-cooked meals, the staff at Taos tries hard to make the meals and service great. i quite enjoyed the meals and I liked that almost everyone would ask you about your day when serving your food. It was a friendly place to be and I loved hanging out with friends there. Plus, if you stay there late on some Wednesdays and Fridays, they sometimes will give you balloons!!
Dorm Life I know other students who loved living in the dorms and will do that again next year, but I, personally, did not enjoy it. My roommate and I did not dislike each other exactly, but we definitely did not click and thus did not talk much. However, the parties, games, and get-together's planned by the CA's were quite fun and I got to meet new people!
Tips for prospective students I know it is almost impossible to not have a lecture hall class (usually into or general ed classes) but if at all possible, avoid them. You will not learn as much because there are so many students and the instructor cannot possibly focus on you all at once.
In three sentences While I do not like the lecture halls and the teacher/student ratio for some of my classes, I feel like may of the teachers knew what they were doing and tried to make the class entertaining even when they could not give us undivided attention. Almost all of the lab teachers are grad students, and while most still tried to make the class entertaining and to teach us, I felt like some of them would either get too nervous and thus confused, or they just really didn't fully understand what they were teaching and would often confuse us students. There are many things I feel the school could improve on, but I can honestly say I really enjoyed my first year here and am looking forward to going back in the fall!

Categories Comments Clubs and Activities There are many clubs and activities available for the campus students.
What to do for fun There are many college activities that are planned for new and current students. For instance, gym time, sports, and numerous activities that are planned by the students and staff of the university.
Food and Dining The food and dining services are great at New Mexico State University. They are available to those that apply for a meal plan and the food selection is great to build healthy diets for students.
Dorm Life Its an amazing and great experience for students to live in the dorms for it keeps them involved and helps them socialize with other students. Dorm life can be crazy sometimes but has great experiences for new students.
Academic Rigor The instructors push the students to achieve their full potential in their declared major.
Tips for prospective students An important tip for prospective students would be to keep focused in your school work and to also get involved with the college activities.
In three sentences This university has an amazing campus. The instructors associate with the students and are always available for help. The university is an all around great college that offers great learning experiences and opportunities for ambitious students.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Family housing is rather notorious for needing some security renovation, but relatively few major incidents are reported on the emergency alert system that calls, texts, and emails everybody in its database. Mostly property crimes on parked vehicles.
Greek Life We have Greek housing and several active Greek chapters, but other than that I cannot comment as I am not a Greek.
Clubs and Activities Clubs are pretty standard with religious organizations being very well represented. Campus activities seem almost more appropriate for high schoolers. Only the most basic activities on campus or even around campus, so plan on driving.
Great for these types of students Great for value oriented students and those who don't mind having to go off campus for any variety in activities.
Bang for the buck NMSU is one of the most expensive public institutions in the state, but if you are a NM resident it is practically free and compared to New Mexico Tech we have the benefits of a larger city. Academically it is definitely worth it, but they will get you on housing and meal plans.
What to do for fun Clubs are pretty standard with Greek, 40+ religious, and various professional clubs. Unless you just love pumping iron or swimming you should consider driving off campus or planning all outings during normal business hours on normal business days.
Food and Dining Taos cafeteria is AWFUL between running out of supplies, serving powdered eggs, tough breadsticks, and the list goes on. The cheapest meal plan is $350, which just covers the fast food restaurants on campus and those are primarily open only for lunch. Cook if possible.
Dorm Life I can't really rate this as I am a commuter student.
Academic Rigor This really depends on the professor as to the extremes. Some professors are tough, others are easy. However, those who utilize office hours should have no difficulty finding the appropriate level of difficulty no matter where they stand.
Tips for prospective students If possible avoid buying a meal plan and seek off-campus room mates. Take initiative in your education, advising is more or less to keep you focused on your major and utilize office hours along with the various free tutoring centers. Commuter students should plan to arrive early to find parking.
In three sentences New Mexico State is an excellent value for the money and the faculty I have encountered are more than willing to help both the advanced students who want further insight and those who are struggling with the subject. Dining is sub-par and I have heard so is housing. Most classes can easily be reached in the 10 minute passing period.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I have always felt safe living on campus. Very few things have happened on campus while I have lived there and I believe that if students just take simple precautions, such as not walking around alone at night, there is no reason to feel unsafe.
What to do for fun As it is at most universities, the football games are always fun to go to. Any of the games, whether it be football, basketball, or volleyball are very entertaining. New Mexico State also has a great gym on campus and there are many classes offered that students can go to in order to get in shape and have fun at the same time.
Food and Dining When I first started eating at the on-campus cafeteria, I really enjoyed it. However, after awhile, the food begins to get old. I still recommend getting a meal plan to any students who are planning on living on campus because it is a great thing to have when one cannot afford to buy groceries. However, a smaller meal plan, not a full time one, is the best option.
Dorm Life I have lived on campus for two years and I love it. For the most part, I enjoyed the dorms that I lived in. Sometimes the air conditioning wasn't the greatest, and that proved to be the biggest problem that I had while living there. However, after putting in a work order and getting the problem fixed, the dorms were much better.
Academic Rigor I feel that majority of the classes I have taken have had fair academic rigor. I don't feel that it is too hard or easy to make a good grade in many different classes. Many of the classes I have taken are both challenging and interesting.
Tips for prospective students For anyone considering attending New Mexico State University, I highly recommend living on campus. Living on campus helps students attend class more because they are so close to their classes and it also helps students save money on gas. I also recommend that students going to New Mexico State University take advantage of the many activities that are offered on campus. Activities such as free concerts, light shows, and raves are offered on campus and it is a great way to have a good time with friends.
In three sentences New Mexico State is a wonderful school that is full of very diverse people. Majority of the classes that are offered at New Mexico State are very fulfilling, especially the Theater classes. I highly recommend New Mexico State University for many reasons, especially for students living in New Mexico.

What to do for fun There is a gym with a rock climbing free for full time students, plus many social and academic clubs to join!
Food and Dining Great options for food and dining at nmsu1
Dorm Life May be rought staying away from home, but with the great views from the dorms and friendly people in the area there is no need to feel blue.
Academic Rigor The staff and the teachers are great and teaching and the information is never to easy!
Tips for prospective students Go check out the campus and where your classes will be before school starts that way on the first day, you'll feel more comfortable with the knowledge of where things are!

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is a very safe environment. There are campus police patrolling around always and there is a police department plus a fire department on campus. Everywhere there are buttons to make emergency calls in the case of one. The fire alarms and extinguishers are checked frequently.
Greek Life Greek life is always sociable and working hard to earn money to support their members. They make sure you are doing your school work and keeping your grades up. With a group of tutors to help out if need be.
Clubs and Activities There are many different clubs from art and music to math and science. I have yet to join a club but I have heard only good. The activities are always fun. Every semester for two weeks people can sign up to be a zombie or a human. Zombies catch humans and humans throw a small bean bag to stun zombies. It is always a hit with the students, plus you get a free bandana with human or zombie written on it.
Great for these types of students The library is great for those who need peace and quiet for those late nights. The dorm Garcia Hall for those who like to socialize a bit more. Chamisa Hall for those who have great grades. The gym for those who like to stay fit.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus North campus has a nice pond with fish and ducks swimming around. Along with tables if people wish to eat along side the serenity it brings. The week before class starts, it is tradition for a series of activities to be held for dorm life, as well as, those living off campus if they choose to join in on the fun.
Bang for the buck The campus is full of opportunity. NMSU is well worth the money with all of its resources. The writing center schedules appointments to review essays and work with you to improve them. The professors are always willing to help out as long as you seek it out. There is a gym open to full time students. The librarians are eager to assist in any questions about research or books of interest.
What to do for fun There are always games going on in the dorms, as well as, misc. food socials. The school screens scary movies during Halloween time, among other movies during different seasons. There is an indoor pool and outdoor pool for the warmer months. Finally, there are always events being held around the campus it is just a matter of looking for them.
Food and Dining The food is great. There is a nice variety to choose from with a wonderful and fresh salad bar. You get what you pay for and there is plenty of room/food for everyone. The staff running the kitchen are also very kind and warm.
Dorm Life Overall, dorm life is pretty fun. I have made many friends. The dorms are always creating fun activities to increase socialization. Everything is clean and perfectly adequate to live in.
Academic Rigor The professors are very intelligent and well prepared. They are exciting and full of life. I have yet to meet a professor who doesn't have the classes attention.
Tips for prospective students Take advantage of the Zuhl Library. There are a series of computers hooked up to a printer with $20 free credit to print. Always talk to the professors and administration. They are very understanding and helpful. In time of stress, the campus is very comforting to walk around.
In three sentences New Mexico State University has a very friendly and calm environment. Categories Comments What to do for fun There are multiple clubs, performances of plays and bands, and occasional film presentations for every student to attend and enjoy.
Food and Dining I usually bring my own lunch from home but will occasionally purchase food from vending machines or from the convenience store, both options are rather inexpensive.
Tips for prospective students Wake up early and take your time walking to class, look around you, hear the sounds of students conversing and birds chirping, smell the freshly cut grass, become enticed within the campus and become part of it. If you intend to park, find a parking space early, give yourself about 30-45 minutes prior to your class starting to find a good spot. If you're hungry, go to the Corbett Station, right outside Corbett Center. It's a simple convenience store where you could buy anything from Hot Pockets to Scantrons for your next test. You will find a microwave there as well as hot water for tea, coffee, or for your Cup-o-Soup.
In three sentences With trees and lush green grass as far as the eyes can see, buildings with such beautiful architecture that inspire every student to study within their walls, and countless other details make walking from class to class less of a rush and more of a stroll through nature, the main campus of NMSU is truly breathtaking. But the most important aspect of all is the people; the most caring, dignified professors and friendliest students make attending NMSU such a pleasant experience that it's easy to forget about the rigorous life of studying and test taking. Every lecture feels like a simple conversation with a very interesting and clever friend, a conversation you'd never want to end.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Very, very safe place to live! I haven't heard of any crimes happening on or off campus the whole year I have been here.
Greek Life Seems like a big deal but not very difficult to get into a fraternity or sorority.
Clubs and Activities Don't really have anything to compare it to but the clubs are more fun/ sport based rather than scholarly clubs. If you like that then there are a lot to choose from including rodeo club.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is a random duck pond on campus and also a separate turtle pond.
Bang for the buck If you get in-state tuition prices then it is well worth coming to school here. A decent undergraduate degree without the financial burden, plus the cost of living is significantly less (but so it the pay).
What to do for fun There is plenty of hiking and biking trails in Las Cruces. If you are not active and do not like being outside then it would be a pretty boring place for you to live. If you want a town that will allow you to focus on your studies this is it!
Food and Dining It is very difficult to find a restaurant that has really good, healthy, unique food- the spots in town, people mainly go to for the ambiance. The schools dining hall is okay but really expensive.
Academic Rigor If you want to learn something, you will but the general atmosphere of this college campus is pass to get by. Students constantly pass around old exams and lab reports/ papers to cheat off from because it is commonly understood that professors do not change the exam questions or the assignments ever. If you are a smart, overachiever (especially a women) this is something looked down upon in this academic culture for some reason.
Tips for prospective students Get involved in the undergraduate research opportunities. Be prepared for a small town, that shuts down by 8pm, and becomes deserted during breaks. Bring a car or some sort of transportation with you because you will need it in Las Cruces, NM.

The wide variety of different degrees, not only gives the chance for students to explore their career options but also go into their desired degree. Thankfully, NMSU gives you the opportunity to let you stay undecided for the first year in order to help you choose what you really want in your life

Categories Comments Campus Safety I believe it is fairly safe. There are lights pretty much everywhere so its not too bad at night.
Clubs and Activities There are a lot of clubs but I haven't gotten involved because I don't have time but they seem fun.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Be sure to never wear anything from Albuquerque because they hate the Lobos (UNM) who happen to be from there. Be sure to go to a football game against UNM to see the amazing competitiveness.
Bang for the buck I think it's pretty affordable compared to some real top notch universities. You get the same education as bigger schools with a great student to teacher ratio.
What to do for fun There isn't much to do around Las Cruces because it's such a small city but a lot of people go to El Paso, which is only about 50 miles away, for fun.
Food and Dining The food is not all that great but it works and keeps you going. Plus, they offer breakfast burritos and omelets every morning!
Dorm Life I think the dorms are great. They aren't all very affordable for some people but I live in the cheapest and they are nice.
Academic Rigor Depends on your major. I am an engineering major so the courses are fairly rigorous.
Tips for prospective students Be sure to fill out the FAFSA and the Scholar Dollar$ Application before March 1st of the Fall you are going to attend to get any aid you may need.
In three sentences It is a school geared towards agriculture and wildlife more than anything else. It is also the only school in New Mexico that has an aerospace engineering program so it has a wide range of majors to choose from. Most people consider it a party school but it isn't.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Our campus has emergency buttons all over campus. We also have service known as Pete's Pick-Up where you can call in the evening and night to have someone come and escort you to your dorm, car, across campus, etc.
Greek Life WONDERFUL! I am a recent alum of a sorority on campus and it really made my college experience. Those girls were my sisters, friends, and future bridesmaids. There was absolutely NO hazing, the competitions were fun, and the cost was manageable.
Clubs and Activities There is a club for everyone. We have lots of honor societies, a Greek system, academic clubs, ethnic clubs, clubs for your major, and clubs for those with similar interests.
Great for these types of students Any and All!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus We SUCK at football, but our spirit and tailgates make up for it! We have a bonfire every Fall, lots of musical guests, and a cow that you can see into its stomach!
Bang for the buck NMSU offers the Lottery Scholarship to those who qualify and the leftover amount is very reasonable and affordable. Books are steep, but you are able to find many of them online.
What to do for fun There are many clubs on campus you can join, bars and clubs if you are over 21, and El Paso offers lots of shopping as well. Another big attraction is the amount of gyms, as Las Cruces is a fitness focused city.
Food and Dining Taos is great! They have so many options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There is always a variety and most things are really good (especially the ice cream!).
Dorm Life I lived in the dorms my freshman year and loved it! I had so much fun, met my best friend, found tons of resources, and learned to love the school cafeteria! It was one of the best experiences ever.
Academic Rigor As an Education major, the classes are not only content based, but experience based as well. This is critical is preparing you for when you graduate and enter the workforce. They do an excellent job in making sure you have the best education possible.
Tips for prospective students Don't be shy! Join a club, go to the gym, use the computer labs, and say hello to your neighbor. Make your experience the best it can be.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I would say that the campus satefy would pretty good for the fact that the police is around campus at night which is good but cannot be to careful.
Greek Life I just applied to join a sorority, Kippa Delta Chi. This sorority is not like many other sororities, it's more of a community services type but they still have fun like go to the movies, bowling, going to the mall in the weekends. A very social, friendly, and welcoming sorority.
Clubs and Activities There are many student activities at NMSU, for example Freshmen Ambassadors, the climbing wall at the activity center, theres is many things that NMSU has to offer.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus My favorite location at NMSU would have to be the Chemical Engineer Department because they have many different things to look at and the environment is just simply great.
What to do for fun I would say for fun at NMSU is to get involve in as many clubs, sororities, fraternities, sports, etc. There is many opinions that NMSU offers students.
Food and Dining I think it's great to have different opinions of food in the university for the fact that many students have different opinions about the food they eat and NMSU gives a great variety of food opinions.
Dorm Life I have never lived in the dorms but I have heard it's a great experience because it's a new environment for students that had never experienced living alone.
Academic Rigor I would say that studying, doing homework an giving up time with friends and family would be the most difficult thing for students.
Tips for prospective students For the incoming freshmen, I would advise them to go to class everyday, do the assignments on time, and to have a little bit of fun once in awhile.
In three sentences New Mexico State University is one of the best universities for the fact that they do anything to help it's students to be successful. I, as a Chemical Engineer student, NMSU provided Chemical Engineers with a computer lab, that allows us to complete our homework. I have had great experiences with NMSU in the past semesters; one of my experiences was being a Freshmen Ambassador and another with Kippa Delta Chi Sorority.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus safety is amazing because we have our own police and fire department there can be on the scene in less than five minutes. There are also mini cabs that you can call on campus that can escort you back to your dorms late at night if you are afraid to walk back.
Greek Life Greek Life is well balanced, they are very smart, but still they don;t really accept you if your not in Greek.
Clubs and Activities There are many clubs to join on campus and everyone is always involved.
Great for these types of students where they like to party, stay out all night, and not to be involved in the city life.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I don't know of an unusual tradition on campus yet.
Bang for the buck The school helps you with as many scholarships, but the finacial aid is descent not to great, but it works out for everyone.
What to do for fun Some of the fun things to do here are to go to zumba classes, learn how to dance, or go to bible studies. Basically anything that you can imagine is here but it is a very small city.
Food and Dining The food is great sometimes, but other times it is not. The food is also very diverse where anyone can eat there from a vegetarian to a salad lover. The dining is great and awesome.
Dorm Life The dorm life is amazing because some dorms have like all students that just are engineering, but you get to meet everyone on your floor and in your dorm.
Academic Rigor The academics are alright i guess, but the professors understand that you do have a life and other classes so they give you time to do homework.
Tips for prospective students If you like the diversity of every culture this school is right for you. The other thing is if you like the hot weather this is a good place for you.
In three sentences There are many student activities to do here. There are a lot of resources for the student, such as tutoring, a writing center, and a mediation room.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There's always a service that can come and pick you up and take you to your dorm or car if you're staying late on campus that day.
Great for these types of students People who are not quite ready for a big school like UT Austin, but too urban for a tiny school.
Bang for the buck You really do get a good education. But the tuition goes up every year. That's the only downer.
What to do for fun Hang out with friends in their dorms. Ride my bike around campus.
Food and Dining It's a little bit too pricey for my taste. But the bad thing is that when you're an incoming freshman, you have to buy a meal plan.
Dorm Life It's not as bad everyone says it is. You have a sense of community with it. You'll always find someone who can help you with studying or homework.
Academic Rigor It's not too hard, but not too easy at the same time.
Tips for prospective students Don't get behind on homework. When you're done with your classes for the day, study for fifteen minutes what you went over in class. That way you won't have to cram the night before the test. You'll know most of everything already.
In three sentences It's small enough to not be too overwhelming. But it's big enough so you don't feel that you know everything about everyone. It's the perfect school.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I believe that the campus safety get an A-plus at NMSU. There are campus police constantly roaming the grounds; at night,Pete's Pick-up helps people get around campus safely. I feel safe walking around during both the day and night.
Greek Life There are sixteen Greek organizations that students have to choose from. Not only do they get to participate in school-related activities, but they also have a great opportunity to get out in the community and help many people in the local area.
Clubs and Activities I am part of the intramural sports program and I really enjoy it. Everyone plays a fair game, but it is also competitive enough to keep me on edge.
Great for these types of students I cannot say that NMSU is good for any particular student because NMSU is great for anyone. Whatever area of the country or world someone comes from they will find a place here. There is such a diversity of race and culture that anyone can find friends and find a group that fits them.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus In the Branson Library, there is a relaxation room with a massage chair and a stress relief room. There is also an underwear run where people do a run in their undies around campus.
Bang for the buck Coming from a smaller town, Las Cruces and NMSU was just what I need to start my own life away from home. I have had many job opportunities and the school has given me many opportunities that other universities could not offer me. I have not been here long, but NMSU is already my home away from home. I love the people, and I love the university. The climate is warm and the sun is nearly always burning bright. If anyone wants to have fun and get a great education, New Mexico State University is the place for them.
What to do for fun There are so many activities to be a part of at NMSU. Starting with intramural sports, there is basketball, football, volleyball, soccer, golf, and dodgeball to name a few. One could watch an Aggie football game, ride bikes, workout, fish, join a club, swim, and even go hiking in the nearby mountains.
Food and Dining I previously went to Western New Mexico before I transferred to NMSU, and NMSU's dining options were love at first sight. With a large cafeteria, on-campus restaurants, and snack bars all over campus, sometimes I cannot decide what to eat for lunch. There is a lot of variety and the food actually tastes really good.
Dorm Life To put it simply, the on-campus living here at NMSU is awesome. I am from the metro area and the University of New Mexico has expensive housing with no real dorm life. At New Mexico State, dorms are more affordable, relative to every school related activity, and have a lot of fun great students that care about others and the university.
Academic Rigor The work that is required is not the hardest work, but it is challenging. The work requires critical thinking, and it actually helps because it sparks productive learning. The academic requirements simply demand your time and effort.
Tips for prospective students Before one gets to college, they should do as much scholarship and grant searching as they can! NMSU is a very affordable institution, but the more help you can get the better the experience will be. The faculty and student body are amazing and are very supportive whenever anyone needs help.
In three sentences New Mexico State is a great institution with great educators. With an amazing campus and so many opportunities, it gives students a multitude of ways to live their blooming adulthood. The city is amazing and the university gives all students the opportunity to find an aspect to life that they can enjoy and be apart of for the rest of their lives.

Categories Comments Campus Safety NMSU offers a safe ride home from anywhere on campus back to your dorm, all you do is call and they'll be there! Best thing about it, is it's free! Late night studying, or paper writing, and don't wanna walk home alone, Pete's Pick-Up is perfect!
Clubs and Activities In our Student Union, there is a student activities room upstairs that will offer you tons of different clubs and organizations for you to join! It's so cool because there are many different categories: Cultural, Government, Social, Music/Sports, Honors, etc.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus A tradition here is we have a football game called Tough Enough to Wear Pink in support of breast cancer.
Bang for the buck At New Mexico State, which has been voted one of the top college buys for a while now, you are most definitely going to get top education for the money it's worth. The professors are great, and extremely helpful if you ask. Its tuition was one of my main pulls for applying, and it was so worth it!
What to do for fun What I like to do for fun, honestly, is just relax after classes, sit on my bed and watch a movie, or something; but! that doesn't mean at all that NMSU is boring. There are so many organizations, clubs, sports, fraternities and sororities that you can join! Don't be shy to ask what there is to do, because they will certainly try to recruit you to a new sport or club! Almost everytime I'm walking to class, there are people asking me to join something, or participate in something. So get out there!
Food and Dining The food here is so-so. It definitely does the job! The cafeteria isn't gourmet or anything, but let's face it, what colleges' food is? (Besides a culinary institute I'm assuming) If you're not feeling up to the cafeteria, there's always fast food places around campus that are quick to get to! And certainly some places off campus to sit-in, or just to grab a quick bite.
Dorm Life The dorms here are awesome. I love living with my roommate! It's exciting, there's fun people everywhere, easy access to kitchen, or laundry rooms, and it's just very relaxing around the dorms. Here in Pinon, there's a volleyball court and pool tables. Some dorms are rowdy, whereas others are quiet; it all depends on your personality! So pick the one that best suits your likes.
Academic Rigor NMSU, like other universities, has its hard and simpler classes. The courses here will definitely challenge you and give you work to do, and others will give you notes to write and tests to take, nothing more. If you're looking for a challenge, you can find it here. Push yourself to try new things and learn new things!
Tips for prospective students Tips? Be outgoing! Be spontaneous and don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and show people who you truly are. NMSU's students are a lot more accepting and friendly than I first expected, and they make me feel welcome and comfortable. Another piece of advice is to study study study. Be time managing and know when and where to be! College is fun when you're organized and know what's going on.
In three sentences NMSU is a great university to learn, meet a diverse group of people, experience dorm life with a roommate, eat cafeteria food, and just have some fun! I love it here, and am always having a great time. It's a great place that feels like home, and will certainly meet your wants!

Food and Dining Toas, the main eating area where most students eats. But there are other alternatives here, such as fast food that are provided here: subway, taco bell, and lota burger. here are multiple of meal plans to chose from and you'll be surprise how amazing the food is here.
Dorm Life the dorms are amazing, they are nice homey room and there are no curfew. The amazing CA's here are cool they make mentors and within the dorm you're more likely able to make more friends.
Academic Rigor the teacher are nice and really nice once you get to know them. there are a variety of teachers here, italian, chinese, and etc. there is good exposer to new culture and education. Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus is very safe, there is constant campus police. The one and only thing to worry about is making sure your car is locked. People sometimes walk around parking lots to see if they are unlocked.
Clubs and Activities There are a lot of Christian organizations that meet all the time. They are fun and great social activities. We also have Greek life that is suppose to be a lot of fun.
Great for these types of students It's great for students that like small towns.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The school has a lot of traditions that are unusual and cool. One of them is lighting the luminaries. Luminaries are paper bags with t-lights in them, they light them all at night and they make a beautiful pathway of lights. Another thing that is cool about this school is the Zombies Vs. Humans game that is essentially a giant game of tag. You start as a human and when the zombie tags you, you become a zombie and you start tagging humans. It's a lot of fun and hundreds of kids play every year.
Bang for the buck This school is very affordable for a four year university.
What to do for fun For fun, go to the school sporting events. We have tons of school spirit as Aggies! There are also lots of fun sporting teams you can join as well as fraternities, sororities and organizational groups on campus. If you are more into the arts go and watch the school plays and musicals, they're very entertaining. We also have a phenomenal dance group on campus.
Food and Dining The school has many different places to dine and they are all very good. The school cafeteria was just completely remodeled and is beautiful, however, the food is always the same. I don't suggest a meal plan, but flex points to eat at other dinning areas on campus I do suggest!
Dorm Life The dorms are old and dorm living is never the greatest. I lived in the dorms my freshman year and made tons of friends! It's not the best, but that's at any school. Even though they're old, living in the dorms is the best way to make friends when you're new to the school.
Academic Rigor Classes here at NMSU are very challenging depending on what school you enter. The nursing program is very difficult but nothing is impossible and everyone wants to see you succeed here.
Tips for prospective students I suggest coming to this school although I don't suggest a meal plan. The new cafeteria is beautiful but serves the same food all the time and a meal plan is too expensive to be eating the same food over and over again.
In three sentences New Mexico State University has a beautiful campus in a small town that focuses on the school. The people that attend this school are very nice and alway helpful. The classes are interesting and difficult, they always keep you on your feet with hard work but make it possible for you to get great grades!

Great for these types of students The campus is great for students of all kinds. You will always find your kind of crowd somewhere in the campus and you will have fun.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus One tradition that I noticed is that around Halloween there is a Humans vs. Zombies competition in which zombie players try to hunt human players throughout the course of a week.
Bang for the buck The school's not too expensive, especially for in-state tuition and the ones who qualify for the 135 mile discount. It's worth it and in the end you will see that it's a good investment.
What to do for fun There are often people who want to hang out around the campus, not only that the school sometimes does events that the students can participate in to have some fun, for example movies in the courtyards and some mini fairs.
Food and Dining The school's main dining area Taos is very nice and has a couple different kinds of foods, the only thing is that it does get boring eventually. Luckily the campus has different restaurants across the campus like Subway, Taco Bell, and Chick-fil-a.
Dorm Life Living in the dorms is great, it's very liberating. The CA's are cool, the living arrangements are suitable, and there are very little problems with the dorms at all, it's a very suitable living environment.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Overall pretty safe at night patrols wander the streets and ensure that no student is in harms way.
Clubs and Activities IEEE/HKN, engineers without borders, intramural sports, dorm room events, etc.
Great for these types of students If you are a determined individual for math, science or engineering. You have lots of doors open all over the US once you graduate. Many high paying employers come here to recruit students after they graduate.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The enchilada festival is one of the many festivals where students will go out to university and watch the parade towards downtown.
Bang for the buck The professors to my knowledge, in the department of engineering. Know their stuff they provide supplemental material to the students and enforce team based learning. Most of the books for the campus materials can be either bought or rented(tangible/ebook) which is very convienent
What to do for fun There are many groups to join on campus. Intramural(sports), college specific(IEEE/HKN, Engineers without borders, etc). Or you can go to the gym across Corbett Center to work out or swim. Visit the auditorium for anime night on wednesdays.
Food and Dining Although the variety of food served at NMSU has changed within the last 5 years I still say they lack in the quality of the food. Therefore, I chose the meal plan that allows me to select the most amount of points to consume food outside Taos.
Dorm Life Although some of the dorms on campus are a bit on the not so pleasant side and some are more lavish than others; it's a great way to create new friends and bonds between classmates as they encourage learning environments and tutoring for students free of charge. Open door policies with Campus Advisors, in short hassle free.
Academic Rigor Many professors on campus strive to ensure their students excel with the material available, however it does not imply that one will enjoy the learning process. One is there to learn not to be guided by hand so that when graduation comes about, you are in a way self sustainable.
Tips for prospective students Buy the material before hand and read it. Practice core class material on a weekly schedule as it will benefit in the long run. Join campus groups (IEEE/HKN, Student Support Groups, etc). As it can ease the stress that comes with immersing yourself in a collegiate environment
In three sentences New Mexico State University is a culturally diverse university; It is a lax environment that promotes learning and most of the student populace are accepting/tolerant of other's views (religion, sex, etc). Teamwork is encouraged dependent of what college you are in at NMSU.

Bang for the buck Filling out scholarships is something that we do to help pay for our education. Also fasfa helps pay for school.

Food and Dining At times students at NMSU don't get the chance to go grab some lunch therefore there are different restaurants on campus. Even better they usually give students some type of discount.
Dorm Life There are a lot of opportunities for NMSU students to live on campus and not drive back and forth to the campus.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck There is a book store across the street that has cheaper books than the school book store, which is recommended by anyone here on campus.
What to do for fun You kinda have to make your own fun. I normally do a lot of hiking in the mountains on my spare time from school work. Other than that they have art fairs and even food fairs , but finding out when they are is hard not in less you know people.
Food and Dining First off we have a lot of choices on and off campus. We have on campus a subway, lotaburger, TBCY, Tacobell, Chickfila and some other restaurants that sell Chinese, and Mexican food. The main food place is Taos which is like a buffet and has pizza, make it yourself stir fry/ and pasta, burgers, subs/wraps, and they serve a special meal of the day. The only negative is that its only open till 8, so for people like me who get out of class late in the evening and are starving and want a lot of food Taos is not an option.
Dorm Life Minus Garcia which is a dorm I would not suggest , fire alarms go off a lot, and just recently has become the most expensive dorm here at NMSU (due to remodeling). The other two dorms I have stayed at are Monagle and RGH. Monagle has court areas and it seems to be a lot more open. RGH may look a bit creepy, but the people seem to be really nice and they have an amazing kitchen and seating area with a TV, where people can just chat , watch movies, or even play games. Dorm life here on campus seems very nice.
Academic Rigor Here at NMSU, it seems to be a bit relaxed, which is a nice change of pace. As far as needing help such as tutoring, there are many options through out campus that can help with anything: Writing, Math, Language, and even Engineering just to name a few. The tutoring is not limited to just undergrad its for everyone. NMSU has a lot of helpful resources for its students.
Tips for prospective students Keeping up with 2 things 1. Attendance and 2. grades are very important here. Especially if you want teachers and staff to take you seriously.
In three sentences NMSU Is very open to all different types of students, especially for people who are doing study abroad either nationally or internationally. The atmosphere here is very friendly and the transition if you are doing a study abroad is very smooth.

Categories Comments Campus Safety With your nmsu email you'll get sent all sorts of safety tips and warnings. I got an email once about young kids claiming they were lost and wanted you to take them to an address they write down where the victims would be raped, robbed or worese. We are one of the top party schools but we are also one of the top for rape which is scary but I've never felt threatened or not safe there, and I have night classes.
Clubs and Activities If you have no idea where to start joining clubs, look down. People are always drawing their club meetings with chalk on the floors. Some of them seem really interesting like hiking clubs or religious groups even theatre groups but personally I need to focus on my studies so I can't give an accurate description for this one. But they are everywhere.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There's a duck pond where people go to walk around or chill out. The horseshoe is where the luckiest of us get to park because it's as close to campus you can get without being a servie vehicle. We bleed crimson (school colors) and on Fridays it's highly encouraged to show your school pride.
Bang for the buck The Lottery Scholarship that pays for 70-80% of your tuition, YEARLY, and all you have to do is maintain a 2.5 GPA. Taos is a buffet inside Corbett Student Center that feeds the students that live on campus but sometimes they've let me (a commuter student) eat for free. *Don't know if I should be sharing that.. but the food is nice, all you can eat for around 8 bucks.
What to do for fun Not a lot to do in this city itself but if you're doing it right learning should be it's own reward! No but you can also go 30 minutes out to El Paso, TX and go clubbing. But locally our dog parks and mountains are fun if you're into hiking and exercising.
Food and Dining Lots of options, from local favorites like Blake's Lottaburger to asian cusine like The Mix. The food on campus can be a bit overpriced but they pump it out really quick for when you have a 10 minute break between classes. Lunch time is always a favorite for all-aged students.
Dorm Life Saving money, living at home. Most people seem to like it but personally it's really expensive if you're paying out of pocket.
Academic Rigor Teachers are really helpful and only a handful won't answer THAT question most are really open to office hours and outside class help. The undergraduates that teach classes are usually my favorite because they seem fresher and more bright-eyed about learning. But generally most of them just want you to learn something while you're there.
Tips for prospective students Honestly, I don't know if this is most colleges or just here, but I rarely use the required books in class. So wait a week or so before dishing out 160 dollars on a book you probably won't use. Don't be late because good parking is hard to find. Lastly, the environment is really easy going in this city so most of the teachers are cool with you and seem less rushed than big city colleges. Also, do NOT mess up if you are eligable for the Lottery Scholarship because it pays for about 80% of your schooling.
In three sentences It is a really great school for engineering that won't put you into too much debt. The parking is a little ridiculous in that you pay $50 a year to spend 20-30 minutes trying to find a good spot. The location is really nice and the campus is always clean and no one seems to be rushing everywhere, it's very laid back here.

The Greek GPA average was higher than the undergradute GPA average for the 2012 Fall Semester.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Aggie sports are a huge part of our tradition.
What to do for fun The city of Las Cruces offers many fun activities such as concerts, fairs, and recreational sports. The university offers may activities specified for students. They offer intramural sports, charity events, movie screenings, and greek life.
Food and Dining Not only are many restaurants such as Chick-Fil-A, Taco Bell, Panda Express, and Subway on campus, they take flex points which are included in dining plans. A restaurant that serves as a buffet of many different choices of food is available to all students. The food is delicious and everybody can find something that they like.
Dorm Life While I do not personally live in the dorms, many of my friends do. Each dorm is unique. Some negative things about the dorms are noise levels and disruptions. some positive things about the dorm are that the furniture is good quality and each dorm offers a different experience.
Academic Rigor Depending on your major, the difficulty of classes will vary. The university has many wonderful professors who are willing to work with you if you are willing to try.
Tips for prospective students Get involved in all the different clubs and organizations. The more involved you are the more you will get out of your experience here. Also remember that your education here is what is preparing you for the future so cherish it and try your hardest.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I have never had any safety issues or concerns on campus. I have heard of a couple incidents but they do not occur frequently that I am aware of. I have always felt safe on campus, whether it be early in the morning or late at night.
Greek Life There are plenty of fraternities and sororities that hold many events for Greek and non-Greek students.
Clubs and Activities Plenty of organizations to join, honor societies, student government, intramural sports and many others.
Great for these types of students Great for students of small town, who look to live in a city, but can't expand their budget to live in a big city like Denver or Dallas. Las Cruces will offer them so much and they will truly enjoy the culture and their time here.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Students tend to tailgate before football games, then they decide to leave or stay out in the parking lot and not go watch the game.
Bang for the buck NMSU is relatively cheap to other institutions of higher learning and I think students who come here get more than what they pay for. Students get a great deal and make a great choice by becoming an Aggie.
What to do for fun Meet students, especially from other cultures as NMSU offers a great deal of diversity. Workout at the AC, go to athletic events and get involved with student organizations.
Food and Dining Food and Dining is pretty good on campus. They have a Blakes Lotaburger, Panda Express, Subway, Taco Bell and many other dining places that make it hard to decide what to eat.
Dorm Life There have been new dormitories added in recent years that have greatly improved the dorm life. There are plenty of friends in the making.
Academic Rigor NMSU can be challenging and the fact that it has plenty to offer academically makes it very compelling. Students will be challenged and will learn plenty because of the academic rigor.
Tips for prospective students Join organizations, meet people. Stay on top of your class work but take time to enjoy the college experience.
In three sentences Academically it has plenty to offer. This university has a great college atmosphere, especially when basketball season rolls around. Employment opportunities are available for all students.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There might not be much to do in Las Cruces so a lot of people make the commute to El Paso. I had never been there before and after my freshman year I began to learn the city.
Food and Dining Food was ok. It was good in the beginning but after two semesters of the same thing almost three times a day it gets old. But that is just the meal plan experience.
Dorm Life Dorm life is really fun and I think every college freshman should experience it. They always have activities planned at least once a month. I was able to become friends with my CA and she helped with any questions I had. I also made a ton of new friends.
Academic Rigor The only problem I had was with an Algebra 121 professor. The problem was addressed and should be dealt with accordingly. Other than that professor they all love the subject that they teach.
Tips for prospective students Make sure to speak with an advisor every time you register, it will make your life that much easier. Just go to class no matter how much you don't want to, in most cases attendance points will help in the end. Make a lot of new friends!
In three sentences This school is great and each college does everything it can to help its students. THe campus is beautiful and small enough to learn your way around, the professors love what they teach as well. The only problem I had was with the financial aid department.
