Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students who want to get a good degree in a short time for a low price. Students who won't get accepted directly into a University of Wisconsin. Students who are looking for a cheaper way to their major of choice.
Tips for prospective students There are no dorms on campus so you will have to arrange your own housing. Nicolet has a transfer program that is 2 years long letting you get most of your general education credits done towards your major. From Nicolet then you can transfer to any University of Wisconsin and others that they have listed to finish your major. This transfer program is also a good idea to go for if you don't think you will be accepted directly at a University of Wisconsin (and also cheaper on the long run).
Bang for the buck Depending on the major you are going for, it is practically half-price compared to other colleges. Nicolet does offer some scholarships but don't forget to apply for financial aid. Also, it is very easy to have a part-time or full time job either at the school or some where else to pay for your studies. Talking with one of the students, I found out that her parents did not have to pay a dime for her schooling but that she paid it all herself thanks to part-time and full time jobs.
Will enjoy being here The campus is in a mostly rural area and is not very big but it is a very pleasant area. I cannot say about student life since I have not attended the college yet.
Will learn a lot I cannot say for sure but having visited the campus and talked to students there Nicolet offers you a practical way of learning: from the classroom textbook to direct hands on application.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students New, and unsure of their future career.
Tips for prospective students Get everything in writing. If they guarantee you something, have them sign a document stating that.
Bang for the buck Yes the cost is low and the education level and experiance is high, but the administration is slowly changing that.
Did enjoy being here I loved most of my instructors and fellow peers. We would all help each other out to make sure all material was understood, couldn't ask for better than that.
Did learn a lot The school was great until Burmaster became president. Many programs were cut, and many instructors had to change their successfully teaching methods because she didn't approve. She is forcing the school down into a rut to the point students, like myself, are leaving and going else where. She wastes money on useless things, then claims the school needs to cut programs due to funding.

Great for these types of students if you live close enough to commute and plan on completing a 4 year degree, consider the uw transfer program.
Bang for the buck very affordable. it is over half the price of the college i will be attending next year.
What to do for fun there are a lot of student clubs and activities plus you are in a great area for those that love outdoor activities.
Food and Dining they have a great cafeteria that gives you a variety of options to pick from.
Dorm Life na - commuting from home
Academic Rigor the classes are small enough to give you great access to your professor, yet challenging enough to push you to the next academic level
Tips for prospective students it saves on dorm fees if you live close enough to commute and the cost for the classes makes it a great option before transferring to your college of choice
In three sentences nicolet technical college offers the uw transfer program which allows a student to complete the required freshman/sophomore classes at an affordable rate with easy transfer to a uw college later.

Categories Comments Clubs and Activities They have sports through the YMCA and two abroad studies to London and Guatamala.
Great for these types of students Great for students with little money or want to stay close to home.
Bang for the buck Nicolet is very cheap and a great choice for people who do not have much money but want an education.
What to do for fun Nicolet is located in Rhinelander Wisoconsin which is a very scenic town, lots of bike trails, walking trails, and areas to fish and swim.
Food and Dining They have a small cafeteria that I did not eat at. It was too expensive for me, but I hear the food is good.
Dorm Life There are no dorms at Nicolet but it is close to where I was living before.
Academic Rigor The classes were not very hard for me so it is easy for me to get all my general educations done with. I do not feel overwhelmed with my homework.
Tips for prospective students Going to a Technical College first then a 4 year college is a great idea and saves you tons of money.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are two campus safety vehicles that monitor the parking lots and circulate throughout all the buildings. Campus Safety officers are friendly and helpful for any student that is lost, (although a student can hardly get lost on the small campus). There is a tornado drill siren in the Tamarack Center parking lot that is in working condition and tests every Wednesday morning. There are fire safety equipment and smoke detectors in every room on campus.
Greek Life No Greek life on campus.
Clubs and Activities There are really not a lot of clubs or organizations on campus, but if a student is creative enough, he or she can find something to bide the rest of the time with.
Great for these types of students Students who like to stay at home, like small cities or towns, and are motivated to do their best will enjoy Nicolet.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The theater in the Learning Resource Center is small, but interesting and holds many plays and performances throughout the year.
Bang for the buck Students who have attended Nicolet Area Technical College and graduated, have told me that Nicolet was the best school to start out with because it was so inexpensive and they really got the education they paid for.
What to do for fun Check out the billboards around campus telling students and staff about new events, organizations, and things wanted or for sale. There is a Spring Formal dance, which I have heard of but never attended. I'd recommend studying hard, but enjoying the nature around campus including Lake Julia.
Food and Dining I do not recommend eating food at the Lakeside cafeteria in the Learning Resource Center as it is over-priced and not very appetizing. Also, try not to buy junk food from the vending machines as the packages contain more empty space than is worth your money.
Dorm Life There are no dorm rooms on campus.
Academic Rigor Classes can be difficult or easy depending on how interested a person is in the class, how the person participates, and the person's drive to learn and succeed.
Tips for prospective students Use those office hours- that's what they're for- if you have any questions or concerns. Try to smile and make a good impression on everyone you meet, because it's a small school, and that means a limited amount of people that you can be allies with. Buy your books online at Chegg.com, it's so much cheaper than the bookstore. Use Blackboard online as much as possible, every day!
In three sentences Nicolet Area Technical College is a great hometown college to start out with for new students in the area or outside of the area. The tuition is way less expensive than most colleges, and the teachers are all very professional, yet fun to work with. Nicolet may be a small school, but it takes small steps to make giant leap!
